- 0:48Speaker 4: Nope, not Friday, Friday.
- 0:50Speaker 3: And also like so but also for the listeners, now
- 0:55Speaker 3: you're hearing Sodier Moore tell them, like, you know, Chip
- 0:59Speaker 3: Howard is absolutely not here today.
- 1:03Speaker 4: He did a pretty good job yesterday about like letting
- 1:05Speaker 4: folks know he's on assignment for the next three days.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, but yeah.
- 1:11Speaker 4: But no, you know, he didn't hear that. You didn't
- 1:14Speaker 4: hear that and you're you just got the Zone on
- 1:16Speaker 4: and you're listening to Pall and you know whatever else,
- 1:20Speaker 4: and all of a sudden that hit. Yeah, your your
- 1:22Speaker 4: day has like been wrecked.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Chip Howard Sports Talk on a Tuesday, taken over by
- 1:27Speaker 3: Jason and Jared, Jason Cornelias, Jared Hicks Ear Sports Radio
- 1:30Speaker 3: eleven fifty AM, The Zone ninety three seven FM. A
- 1:34Speaker 3: whole lot of sports to talk about today. Obviously we're here,
- 1:40Speaker 3: so we're gonna get heavy into the NBA playoffs and
- 1:43Speaker 3: the ups and downs that have been going on kind
- 1:46Speaker 3: in some of the series.
- 1:49Speaker 4: Nothing like we kind of pontificated about the last time
- 1:52Speaker 4: we were here. I mean, like everything's just and we'll
- 1:55Speaker 4: get into that, but I mean it's been crazy.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Oh yeah, the playoffs is so I have been crazy.
- 2:02Speaker 3: I'm looking on the news right now. So much has
- 2:04Speaker 3: been going on, and you and I talk about it
- 2:06Speaker 3: so much while we're here on the business side of
- 2:10Speaker 3: sport and the ramifications that are going on to and
- 2:15Speaker 3: for me, it will go back when we talk about
- 2:17Speaker 3: it on the next block of when you and I
- 2:21Speaker 3: talked about and we joked about he who remains and
- 2:25Speaker 3: what the nc double a was and what it is
- 2:29Speaker 3: and what has happened now that the NC Double A
- 2:31Speaker 3: is even weaker than it used to be, but also
- 2:34Speaker 3: how that is also permeated throughout all of the leagues
- 2:37Speaker 3: now and what is going on well.
- 2:40Speaker 4: So obviously we're talking about gambling, yes, because the US,
- 2:46Speaker 4: the United States, has been very slow to catch up
- 2:49Speaker 4: to the rest of the world in regards to sports
- 2:51Speaker 4: betting because when you go especially when you go to
- 2:55Speaker 4: Europe and especially when you start talking about soccer, like
- 2:58Speaker 4: live betting has been a vibrant part of the sport
- 3:01Speaker 4: for decades now. In fact, it's it's really driven the
- 3:05Speaker 4: technology that has kind of migrated over to the US.
- 3:08Speaker 4: And you've seen I think what two thirds of states
- 3:11Speaker 4: across the country adopts sports betting of some sort, some
- 3:15Speaker 4: sort of Texas, you know, still for whatever reason things
- 3:18Speaker 4: it's better than everybody else. But we we touched on
- 3:24Speaker 4: the fact that, you know, the underside and one of
- 3:28Speaker 4: the reasons why you you really haven't seen sports or
- 3:30Speaker 4: gambling and sports is so taboo is because of like
- 3:33Speaker 4: the Black Sox scandal and and all the incidents where
- 3:37Speaker 4: you know, games can be affected because of gambling intrity
- 3:42Speaker 4: of the game. Yeah, and obviously Pete Rose and you know,
- 3:46Speaker 4: baseball has is where you've seen this most in our history.
- 3:49Speaker 4: But obviously in the world of prop bets, now you
- 3:53Speaker 4: can start getting into all these other sports and and
- 3:55Speaker 4: start doing that. And obviously there's been a lot of
- 3:59Speaker 4: news in just the last two to three days involving
- 4:05Speaker 4: specifically athletes and gambling yep. And obviously the NBA story
- 4:11Speaker 4: with Terry Rozier and Chauncey Billups and and the entire
- 4:15Speaker 4: DOJ investigation of that. That's that's the big story. The
- 4:20Speaker 4: one that kind of came out of left field, or
- 4:23Speaker 4: at least out from the Panhandle is Field. Yeah, absolute
- 4:28Speaker 4: field is the Brendan Sorosby story. Is the quarterback of
- 4:33Speaker 4: Texas Tech.
- 4:34Speaker 3: So yeah, we'll dive deep into that here coming up
- 4:38Speaker 3: in just a second, getting deep into all the sports.
- 4:40Speaker 3: I know everybody's excited about the bananas coming up here
- 4:43Speaker 3: this weekend. We have and I have been reminded seventy
- 4:46Speaker 3: two times, we've got some tickets to give away. The
- 4:49Speaker 3: CHIP is absolutely wanting to make sure that we do
- 4:51Speaker 3: for Rock the Country. I don't know how we're going
- 4:53Speaker 3: to give those away, if it'll just be a straight
- 4:55Speaker 3: phone call or if we'll do something exciting about that,
- 4:58Speaker 3: we'll think about that.
- 4:59Speaker 4: People think about that, but it will be incumbent on
- 5:02Speaker 4: you are eighty four listeners, Okay, Hi J. Miller to
- 5:09Speaker 4: be to stay tuned into the show, as we will
- 5:12Speaker 4: have something at least in the towards the five o'clock hour,
- 5:16Speaker 4: if not in the five o'clock hour, for you to
- 5:19Speaker 4: call in and win those tickets.
- 5:21Speaker 3: So two things I want to talk about here as
- 5:23Speaker 3: we get the show started that are kind of the
- 5:25Speaker 3: same but also not the same. Quickly, Jerome Tang that
- 5:29Speaker 3: was the head basketball coach at Kansas State is now
- 5:32Speaker 3: returning to Baylor after his unsacrimonious exit from Kansas State
- 5:38Speaker 3: when he, in my opinion, all he did was call
- 5:41Speaker 3: out his players and say, y'all, we need more from y'all.
- 5:44Speaker 3: And he said some of y'all aren't going to be
- 5:45Speaker 3: here next year, and in this level of nil and
- 5:49Speaker 3: and and how players are the money that players are making,
- 5:56Speaker 3: the players were chosen over coach Tang, and he was
- 5:59Speaker 3: at to leave and now he's going back to Baylor
- 6:01Speaker 3: right up the road.
- 6:05Speaker 4: I mean, can I mean Kansas State has just such
- 6:08Speaker 4: a a mired history and basketball that maybe maybe they're
- 6:17Speaker 4: kind of overshooting their shop or over out kicking their
- 6:20Speaker 4: coverage as far as what they expect. But I mean,
- 6:22Speaker 4: honestly speaking, coaches, I mean, coaches should be able to
- 6:27Speaker 4: call out players, especially. You would think if if you
- 6:30Speaker 4: can easily identify the fact you're not trying, you're not
- 6:33Speaker 4: they're not paying, what is what is coaching? Then that
- 6:38Speaker 4: that to me just kind of shows where I think
- 6:41Speaker 4: certain I hate to use the snowflake term, but I
- 6:46Speaker 4: mean there's there's ale of coddling where you know, I
- 6:52Speaker 4: hate to say it, this is a business. It is
- 6:55Speaker 4: and that's what and that'sess.
- 6:57Speaker 3: And that's where it stuck to me a little bit
- 6:59Speaker 3: because he he was called like, he's like, these are
- 7:01Speaker 3: kids that are now getting paid. Yeah, like these aren't young,
- 7:05Speaker 3: Like it's not the way it used to be. These
- 7:06Speaker 3: are kids that are getting paid, and he called them
- 7:08Speaker 3: out because they weren't doing what they were supposed to
- 7:10Speaker 3: be doing to earn those contracts that they now have.
- 7:13Speaker 3: And so, yeah, seeing him go seventy three and fifty
- 7:15Speaker 3: seven in his first three years and make it to
- 7:17Speaker 3: the Elite eight and so they fire him for and Okay,
- 7:21Speaker 3: he went on. He was one to eleven in conference
- 7:22Speaker 3: at the time, and they had some expectations, but again
- 7:25Speaker 3: all he did was say, hey, y'all aren't giving out
- 7:28Speaker 3: the amount of effort that you need to be giving out.
- 7:33Speaker 4: And he was the one that was let go to
- 7:35Speaker 4: me and not to draw too much comparison. It reminds
- 7:39Speaker 4: me so much of where USA men's USA men's soccer
- 7:43Speaker 4: national team is right now, where you have expectations and
- 7:47Speaker 4: you expect a level of excellence and expertise and it's
- 7:52Speaker 4: just mismanaged. And I kind of get the feeling. Kansas
- 7:55Speaker 4: State kind of falls into that category as a school
- 7:58Speaker 4: that's just kind of listless at times, whether it's football,
- 8:03Speaker 4: whether it's basketball, and especially in a majority of the
- 8:05Speaker 4: other sports where they're not even competitive.
- 8:07Speaker 3: Speaking of having uh higher than probably necessary expectations, Diego
- 8:16Speaker 3: Pavia has has signed with the Ravens. He is the
- 8:21Speaker 3: very first but no way, no, just just just sudding
- 8:24Speaker 3: the the the first Heisman finalist to not to go
- 8:28Speaker 3: completely undrafted.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Correct, I mean short of I think you have to
- 8:33Speaker 4: go back to the sixties and a Heisman finalist who
- 8:37Speaker 4: was going to Vietnam. Yeah, so that's why he couldn't
- 8:39Speaker 4: be drafted. I mean, I will say this, the Ravens
- 8:41Speaker 4: did invite him to their mini camp with no word
- 8:44Speaker 4: if he's going to be invited to regular person camp
- 8:49Speaker 4: you were, I was, yes, I was waiting for that. Uh,
- 8:53Speaker 4: because he's a he's a he's five to ten. He's
- 8:56Speaker 4: twenty four years old, which, by the way, this is
- 9:00Speaker 4: when you're talking about coming to the NFL and trying
- 9:04Speaker 4: to become a serious quarterback. It's not necessarily to your
- 9:07Speaker 4: benefit to be older as you come into the league.
- 9:11Speaker 4: And the fact that he's five to ten, he's undersized.
- 9:15Speaker 4: Yes he plays with a tenacity, but will that tenacity
- 9:18Speaker 4: actually translate to the NFL. I don't think so. And
- 9:24Speaker 4: when you give own when you give owners and you
- 9:26Speaker 4: give general managers any reason not to draft you, and
- 9:30Speaker 4: he gave plenty and the fact for whatever reason, he
- 9:34Speaker 4: thought he didn't need an agent because he doesn't believe
- 9:37Speaker 4: at incorrectly that they should get five to ten percent.
- 9:40Speaker 4: You actually will get two to three. But you should
- 9:44Speaker 4: have had I mean, I don't know what advice he
- 9:46Speaker 4: was given, and I know Johnny was talking to him
- 9:48Speaker 4: during this period of ten You absolutely need an agent,
- 9:53Speaker 4: because that's person who's going to be calling these teams saying, hey,
- 9:56Speaker 4: look at my guy.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Oh yes, they're going to continue to call multiple times
- 10:00Speaker 3: and keep on that. But again, and I'm never one
- 10:04Speaker 3: I try to to to navigate this delicately because I'm
- 10:09Speaker 3: never wanted to be like, oh, you can't be yourself.
- 10:12Speaker 3: I am always for people being unapologetically themselves. I get that. However,
- 10:20Speaker 3: you have to be able to know either what that
- 10:23Speaker 3: is and how that's going to affect you, or how
- 10:26Speaker 3: to manage that in situations again like this, like the
- 10:31Speaker 3: way he handled himself after the Heisman situation and going
- 10:36Speaker 3: on social media and saying, f the all the voters
- 10:40Speaker 3: and all. You can't do that. No, I mean you
- 10:43Speaker 3: cannot do that.
- 10:44Speaker 4: You You literally went from what is arguably one of
- 10:50Speaker 4: the greatest underdog stories we've had in college football. And
- 10:53Speaker 4: I don't know how long I mean we're talking about
- 10:56Speaker 4: not non scholarship athlete goes to New Mexico, beats beats
- 11:04Speaker 4: Hugh Freeze multiple times, his coach, and he go to Vanderbilt,
- 11:10Speaker 4: the perpetual whipping boy of the SEC, and turn them
- 11:14Speaker 4: into a winning, competitive program you can play with you know,
- 11:19Speaker 4: pride and arrogance. But yeah, when you get to especially
- 11:23Speaker 4: the Heisman ceremony, show some humility.
- 11:28Speaker 3: It's not even showing humility. You can be upset, you.
- 11:31Speaker 4: Can be upset. But at the same time, humility wasn't
- 11:37Speaker 4: exactly the word I was or just I mean, I
- 11:41Speaker 4: hate to say play the game.
- 11:42Speaker 3: But no, And that's that's why I said I was
- 11:44Speaker 3: trying to navigate it delicately.
- 11:46Speaker 4: It's not these are all things you put on your
- 11:48Speaker 4: quote unquote CV because you're trying to get to the
- 11:51Speaker 4: next level.
- 11:52Speaker 3: And here's the other part about it. And I hear
- 11:54Speaker 3: people talk at the time like we have freedom of
- 11:56Speaker 3: speech in this country, but not freedom of consequences. And
- 11:59Speaker 3: I understand in necessarily because there are was it thirty
- 12:04Speaker 3: or thirty two NFL teams, thirty two thirty two NFL teams,
- 12:07Speaker 3: they and most of them either have an owner or
- 12:10Speaker 3: a governor that is the one like you were you
- 12:13Speaker 3: were trying. You're not trying. You're not talking to the
- 12:15Speaker 3: rest of the country in this situation. You were talking
- 12:18Speaker 3: to those thirty two owners, those thirty two head coaches.
- 12:23Speaker 3: So we're at sixty four people right now that you
- 12:25Speaker 3: have to impress. That's it.
- 12:27Speaker 4: General managers. Yeah, I mean, but that's the decision maker. Yeah,
- 12:31Speaker 4: those we're talking less than two hundred.
- 12:34Speaker 3: Yes, that you have to impress and you have to
- 12:38Speaker 3: understand what goes into that. And so that's where I'm
- 12:40Speaker 3: just like, and that's why I was just like, from
- 12:44Speaker 3: from the end of the season through the Heisman like
- 12:47Speaker 3: all of this, I'm just like, you could ride that wave.
- 12:51Speaker 3: And again, it is not necessarily not being yourself. It
- 12:54Speaker 3: is not saying that you cannot take pride in who
- 12:56Speaker 3: you are, where you come from, all of those things,
- 12:59Speaker 3: but you have to understand what you have to be
- 13:03Speaker 3: able to do when those wes well.
- 13:04Speaker 4: And more to the point, you also have to understand, Okay,
- 13:07Speaker 4: I am five ten. Maybe we sik about that and
- 13:10Speaker 4: say I'm five eleven or six foot, but I mean
- 13:12Speaker 4: when they go to do the measurements, they know for
- 13:14Speaker 4: sure I'm already kind of behind the eight ball in
- 13:18Speaker 4: regards to your prototypical NFL quarterbacks. So I know I'm
- 13:22Speaker 4: not round one, round two, probably not even round three.
- 13:25Speaker 4: But if I want to get four or five or six,
- 13:28Speaker 4: I need to do I need to do something to
- 13:30Speaker 4: help my stock and guess what this a that's not
- 13:32Speaker 4: And here's the.
- 13:33Speaker 3: Biggest example that you can have of of how your
- 13:38Speaker 3: attitude can make a difference.
- 13:40Speaker 5: But you're you're.
- 13:43Speaker 3: At the end of the day, your ability can make
- 13:44Speaker 3: a difference. Also is last year in should or sand
- 13:48Speaker 3: Sanders because at the end of the day it was
- 13:50Speaker 3: kind of the same thing. Chador was kind of rubbing
- 13:51Speaker 3: people the wrong way. But that he's not. Shud Sanders
- 13:54Speaker 3: doesn't five to ten. No, Sanders has a quarterback ability
- 13:58Speaker 3: and physical traits to people people can still see and
- 14:01Speaker 3: not turn away from. I'm sorry, Diego Pavia. When you're
- 14:04Speaker 3: five to ten, you've got to be able to navigate
- 14:06Speaker 3: that a whole lot better than you did to show that, hey,
- 14:10Speaker 3: I can still be an NFL quarterback.
- 14:11Speaker 4: I go back to something I mean, and this even
- 14:13Speaker 4: goes back to Lebron James when he was coming out
- 14:15Speaker 4: of high school, and it's about surrounding yourself with the
- 14:19Speaker 4: right people who are going to help you in your career,
- 14:22Speaker 4: not surrounding yourself with the yes men who are simply
- 14:26Speaker 4: just doing your bidding because you think you know everything.
- 14:30Speaker 4: I find that so true. I mean, you know, forty
- 14:33Speaker 4: five year old now I realize how important it is
- 14:36Speaker 4: to have those voices around you, even when you're younger,
- 14:39Speaker 4: to help you make the right decisions. And it just
- 14:42Speaker 4: blows my mind time and time again. How How and
- 14:45Speaker 4: I get it? You've been playing sports your whole life,
- 14:47Speaker 4: You've been told you're great your whole life. You've excelled
- 14:50Speaker 4: in something that ninety nine percent of every other young
- 14:53Speaker 4: boy cannot do. But the one thing you have to
- 14:57Speaker 4: have to acknowledge is the fact that you do not
- 14:59Speaker 4: know everything. Please listen to the experts.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Gonna take a break, coming back in just a second.
- 15:05Speaker 3: We are gonna talk about all of the things that
- 15:07Speaker 3: are going on in the negative side of sports. Here
- 15:10Speaker 3: in just a second, you're listening to the chip out
- 15:12Speaker 3: of Sports Talk taking over by Jason and Jared Sports
- 15:14Speaker 3: Ready eleven fifty AM, The Zone, ninety three seven FM.
- 15:17Speaker 6: I'm Chad Jones. We know sports injuries hurt, and so
- 15:20Speaker 6: do injuries from car res. But you didn't sign up
- 15:22Speaker 6: to be in a car wreck with someone who wasn't
- 15:24Speaker 6: paying attention. It was their fault and now you're left
- 15:27Speaker 6: to deal with the consequences. You need to see a doctor,
- 15:29Speaker 6: and you're missing work. Chad Jones Law can help. We've
- 15:32Speaker 6: been helping our neighbors for more than two decades. Stop

- 15:47Speaker 4: It's Tech SAgs Live, brought to you by David Garner's Jewelers,
- 15:50Speaker 4: joined by Scharene the Dream.
- 15:52Speaker 7: Williams think cash Is Hall probably feels like he has
- 15:55Speaker 7: a chip on his shoulder for what he did, so
- 15:57Speaker 7: I think he's got a chance to be way better
- 16:00Speaker 7: than where he was drawing.
- 16:01Speaker 1: It's not like he was draft too below, but you know,
- 16:04Speaker 1: I know he felt like he was a.
- 16:05Speaker 8: First round draft pick, and I feel like he was
- 16:07Speaker 8: a first round draft pick.
- 16:08Speaker 9: So I think he's.
- 16:09Speaker 2: Gonna come out show people that he should have been
- 16:11Speaker 2: a first round draft pick.
- 16:12Speaker 4: And I think he's gonna be very very good. Tech
- 16:14Speaker 4: Tags Live weekdays from eight to eleven on the Zone.
- 16:27Speaker 10: Are you going to see the movie?
- 16:43Speaker 4: No, because guess guess who doesn't. I mean, basically doesn't
- 16:49Speaker 4: even exist in it. Janet, Yeah, there's no supposedly there
- 16:55Speaker 4: is absolutely no mention of Janet.
- 16:57Speaker 3: Well, I saw that there's no mention also of Diana
- 16:59Speaker 3: Ross because she like legally said, yeah, you're not including me.
- 17:04Speaker 3: So did Janet do the same?
- 17:05Speaker 4: I'm assuming, So I'm basically what I understand is in
- 17:10Speaker 4: order for this movie to be produced, the estate had
- 17:12Speaker 4: to sign off of it. So there's going to be
- 17:14Speaker 4: a multitude of things they don't even talk about, like
- 17:17Speaker 4: the big thing, and but that's just to get the
- 17:21Speaker 4: rights to the music right, and so to me not
- 17:25Speaker 4: I mean if to me, the Jackson's The American Dream
- 17:29Speaker 4: is like the definitive Michael Jackson movie, so that I
- 17:33Speaker 4: kind of defaulted that.
- 17:35Speaker 3: Chip Howard Sports Talk on a Tuesday taken over by
- 17:37Speaker 3: Jason and Jarrett Sports Radio eleven fifty AM, The Zone
- 17:40Speaker 3: ninety three seven FM here today. This is something that
- 17:44Speaker 3: you and I have talked about a number of times
- 17:48Speaker 3: when it comes to now well obviously the NCAA and
- 17:52Speaker 3: the governing body of college athletics, but how it is
- 17:56Speaker 3: now spreading to the governing bodies of professional sports and
- 18:03Speaker 3: the either the partnerships that they have that are hard
- 18:08Speaker 3: to break, the just just how it is so difficult
- 18:13Speaker 3: to govern everything that's going on, and so I make
- 18:16Speaker 3: the joke when we when we were talking about Loki
- 18:18Speaker 3: and the NC double A being he who remains and
- 18:21Speaker 3: is it better to have the evil that we know
- 18:25Speaker 3: versus the evil that we don't And what happens when
- 18:30Speaker 3: we don't have any evil? Now we don't have anything,
- 18:34Speaker 3: so kind of pushing things back.
- 18:36Speaker 4: Well, so ever since the Supreme Court case that basically
- 18:38Speaker 4: showed that nil it should be allowed, like the NCUBA
- 18:43Speaker 4: had no case for doing what they have done, for decades,
- 18:45Speaker 4: the NC double A has basically been a hammer looking
- 18:48Speaker 4: for a nail, right because they can't police what they
- 18:51Speaker 4: used to police very heavily because nil is legal and
- 18:54Speaker 4: you have the collectives and you have all of this,
- 18:57Speaker 4: But this is an area that they may have doun
- 19:00Speaker 4: and nail that they could actually be of use of,
- 19:02Speaker 4: and it is policing the gambling that you see at
- 19:05Speaker 4: the NC double A level because one of the big
- 19:09Speaker 4: benefits to having these sports books in the United States
- 19:12Speaker 4: is you have all this gambling data. You have these
- 19:15Speaker 4: odd this odds data that as as bets are coming
- 19:18Speaker 4: in and you and you see things that are outside
- 19:22Speaker 4: the norm, they they're tripping the algorithms, and you know
- 19:25Speaker 4: their their their sigma esque delineations. The book, the odds
- 19:30Speaker 4: makers can can easily track those and and inform the
- 19:36Speaker 4: the governing bodies, whether it's the NBA, the NFL, or
- 19:39Speaker 4: the nc double A to look into them. You know,
- 19:42Speaker 4: it was just what three or four years ago that
- 19:44Speaker 4: you had the Alabama head coach who placed a bet
- 19:52Speaker 4: on his coach losing to l s U because he
- 19:57Speaker 4: had not released the information that's starting was not going
- 20:00Speaker 4: to play, and he had made the phone call for
- 20:02Speaker 4: the bet from the Cincinnati Reds facility on Pete Roads
- 20:06Speaker 4: Bullet Pete Rose volleyball, I mean, and that's what tripped
- 20:09Speaker 4: it off because it was an abnormally large bet prop
- 20:13Speaker 4: bet on a random game on a random night. So
- 20:17Speaker 4: if the NCAA has any use, this might be where
- 20:22Speaker 4: it is, because I don't think it's going to be
- 20:25Speaker 4: in trying to corral the nil situation.
- 20:31Speaker 3: And I agree with you on that one. One thing
- 20:34Speaker 3: that I'm very curious of because all of this, whether
- 20:38Speaker 3: it is NIL through players wanting to get paid, through
- 20:43Speaker 3: all of this has come because of television dollars and
- 20:48Speaker 3: the full on tsunami of TV dollars that has come
- 20:54Speaker 3: in in the last twenty to thirty years, whether again,
- 20:57Speaker 3: like you and I have talked about, whether that be
- 20:58Speaker 3: the NC DOUBLEA tournament and March Madness. Now with how
- 21:01Speaker 3: the each of the conferences have their their money coming in,
- 21:05Speaker 3: All of that comes from the TV dollars every ESPN
- 21:11Speaker 3: is is partnered with with DraftKings like well, I.
- 21:16Speaker 4: Mean every I mean, now every pregame show provides you
- 21:20Speaker 4: the odds, the odds.
- 21:21Speaker 3: And and here and that. But that's what I'm saying,
- 21:23Speaker 3: and so like how where and.
- 21:25Speaker 4: So to your point, not only has the TV money
- 21:28Speaker 4: come into it, the sports betting money. I mean honestly,
- 21:32Speaker 4: if you want to know probably what the next gold
- 21:35Speaker 4: or where the next uh deluge of money. And and
- 21:38Speaker 4: they and the leagues know this. They know that the
- 21:42Speaker 4: sports maker or the odds makers have mountains of money
- 21:45Speaker 4: that can be funneled into the leagues because of partnerships.
- 21:53Speaker 4: So they're trying to find every which way they can
- 21:55Speaker 4: to incorporate it. While at the same time, as you
- 21:57Speaker 4: pointed out earlier, you got to maintain the integrity of
- 21:59Speaker 4: the sport right as soon as that goes away, as
- 22:01Speaker 4: soon as there's any question to the legitimacy of what
- 22:04Speaker 4: we're watching on a nightly basis, which is also why
- 22:06Speaker 4: we've talked about these NBA games where teams are tanking
- 22:09Speaker 4: and they're just ungodly watchable, and how that can even
- 22:12Speaker 4: affect the odds makers. All of this kind of plays
- 22:15Speaker 4: a part in there is money to be made, but
- 22:18Speaker 4: we care about the integrity of the sport.
- 22:20Speaker 3: And and so where is again, whether you're the NC
- 22:23Speaker 3: DOUBLEA or we haven't even touch base on the professional
- 22:26Speaker 3: league yet, but like, where is the where is the
- 22:30Speaker 3: balance in that? And where do you end up finding
- 22:33Speaker 3: how how do you stop it versus how like.
- 22:37Speaker 4: Well, I mean, just so in the case in the
- 22:39Speaker 4: case of Brandon Soresby, Yes Techack in Texas Tech, he
- 22:43Speaker 4: is going he's taking an indefinite, indefinite leave of absence
- 22:47Speaker 4: from the team to go into gambling rehab because he
- 22:49Speaker 4: claims he's making thousands of wagers and has been and
- 22:54Speaker 4: has been for a while in fact, including while he
- 22:56Speaker 4: was a walk on, or while he was a red
- 22:58Speaker 4: shirt freshman at Indiana he actually placed a wager on
- 23:01Speaker 4: Indiana football, which you and I both know you kid, no, no,
- 23:08Speaker 4: But again, just like any other vice, gambling has this danger.
- 23:14Speaker 4: I mean, that's one of the reasons why if you
- 23:15Speaker 4: listen to I mean we both listen to sports podcasts,
- 23:19Speaker 4: and most of them spons have some kind of sponsorship
- 23:21Speaker 4: arrangement with a with a sports book, you have to
- 23:24Speaker 4: listen to this litany of disclosure at the end that
- 23:28Speaker 4: they raced through talking about gambling pom you know, call
- 23:30Speaker 4: blah blah blah, blah blah. This is why it is
- 23:33Speaker 4: an issue.
- 23:34Speaker 3: And I'm not saying and I'm I'm absolutely not trying
- 23:37Speaker 3: to say that it is not an issue, and I.
- 23:39Speaker 4: Don't know, I do feel sorry for that. I think
- 23:42Speaker 4: that as it becomes easier, the access becomes easier, you're
- 23:45Speaker 4: gonna gonna have more of these stories. Because again, what's
- 23:49Speaker 4: what stands out about this more than anything else is
- 23:51Speaker 4: this is a five million dollar nil quarterback. It'd be
- 23:55Speaker 4: different if we're talking about the second string uh strong
- 24:00Speaker 4: safety on Northwestern Oklahoma's I mean, you know, random directional
- 24:06Speaker 4: school D two football program, because they're not getting in
- 24:10Speaker 4: IO money, and it'd be really easy to get addicted
- 24:13Speaker 4: to gambling, especially if you start having some wins. But
- 24:16Speaker 4: this shows no one's immune from him. If you're getting
- 24:20Speaker 4: seven figures and.
- 24:21Speaker 3: I'm about to step into it, and I know I am.
- 24:23Speaker 3: But would this story have also come out if he
- 24:28Speaker 3: hadn't transferred from Cincinnati to Texas Tech Indiana. No, No,
- 24:32Speaker 3: he wouldn't.
- 24:33Speaker 4: Sorry.
- 24:33Speaker 3: No, he was in Indiana and then you went to Cincinnati. Sorry,
- 24:36Speaker 3: And now he is at Texas Tech, and Cincinnati says
- 24:38Speaker 3: they owe him money.
- 24:39Speaker 4: Ah, he owes them money.
- 24:42Speaker 3: And so that's why. Yeah, And so that's why that's
- 24:44Speaker 3: why I said I'm stepping into this. I know, because
- 24:46Speaker 3: like he was betting in Indiana. You don't think Indiana
- 24:50Speaker 3: knew somehow that he had a problem. And if he did,
- 24:53Speaker 3: if they did know, they let us because and that's
- 24:55Speaker 3: why he's no longer Indiana now just Cincinnati. And Cincinnati
- 24:58Speaker 3: gave him a huge and io dealing.
- 25:00Speaker 4: At the time he was at Indiana. Indians Indiana, they
- 25:02Speaker 4: weren't anything. They may not have cared. I don't, I don't.
- 25:05Speaker 4: I don't necessarily know if if it come if it's
- 25:08Speaker 4: only coming to light because of the Cincinnati. I think
- 25:10Speaker 4: it comes to light because of who he is, how
- 25:11Speaker 4: much he's getting paid where he's at. I mean, I
- 25:14Speaker 4: think if it was any power for school and it's
- 25:18Speaker 4: a quarterback that it makes news. But just to show
- 25:23Speaker 4: the links that some people will go to win their
- 25:28Speaker 4: their odds. There is a man in France who placed
- 25:32Speaker 4: a bet on a record height temperature in Paris. He
- 25:36Speaker 4: then walked up to her thermometer with a blow dryer
- 25:39Speaker 4: and won thirty seven thousand euro. That's the I mean,
- 25:47Speaker 4: that's what we're talking about here. Where the world of
- 25:51Speaker 4: the world of gambling and odds making, there's you're gonna
- 25:56Speaker 4: have these these these uh, these players. And when I
- 26:00Speaker 4: say players, I'm talking about in the context of of
- 26:04Speaker 4: of unscrupulous play who are going to try and manipulate
- 26:09Speaker 4: situations because they think they will not get caught because
- 26:12Speaker 4: the amounts are not consequential. It's different if you're talking
- 26:16Speaker 4: about six to seven figure bets bets when you're talking
- 26:19Speaker 4: about you know, four or five figures, you don't think
- 26:22Speaker 4: you're gonna get caught. But again, these odds makers are
- 26:26Speaker 4: not stupid. They've been tracking this data for decades and
- 26:30Speaker 4: they can see the irregularities when they happen.
- 26:34Speaker 3: Is it a point that that's the information that needs
- 26:38Speaker 3: to get out to not and again not someone that
- 26:42Speaker 3: has a true legitimate issue, which it seems to do.
- 26:47Speaker 3: They said, thousands of bets to have not someone that
- 26:50Speaker 3: has a true legitimate issue, but to some of and
- 26:54Speaker 3: I don't want to say casual, like it's it's like
- 26:59Speaker 3: it's a real thing. And I get that, but like
- 27:01Speaker 3: making sure that especially down at the college, like the
- 27:05Speaker 3: college level, but even approached like you're gonna get caught
- 27:09Speaker 3: because like I mean, as you're saying, like some of
- 27:12Speaker 3: these these aren't large, you were going to get caught
- 27:16Speaker 3: because I thought, for the longest why why betting was
- 27:19Speaker 3: such an issue is because the players weren't. I mean,
- 27:23Speaker 3: you gotta think back in the seventies, like sixties and seventies,
- 27:25Speaker 3: depending on most of the sports, the guys had to
- 27:27Speaker 3: have second jobs. Yeah, and in the offseason that doesn't
- 27:31Speaker 3: happen anymore. So the money got so big, and I
- 27:33Speaker 3: think that's why all of the leagues are like they
- 27:35Speaker 3: make so much now they're not gonna bet anymore. But
- 27:38Speaker 3: I think it's also like, well, I.
- 27:40Speaker 4: Mean, I mean, and you play, I mean you played
- 27:42Speaker 4: college ball for A and M. When you're on the
- 27:44Speaker 4: when you're on the plane, when you're on the road trips,
- 27:46Speaker 4: and we you know, we saw because we saw that
- 27:48Speaker 4: we heard about these stories with the bulls and last Dance.
- 27:52Speaker 4: You're on the plane, what are you doing with the guys?
- 27:55Speaker 4: You're playing?
- 27:56Speaker 3: Are you playing? Cart you're doing?
- 27:58Speaker 4: And what and what are you doing? You're and it
- 28:00Speaker 4: I mean again, it all just kind of permeates into
- 28:03Speaker 4: your system that this does.
- 28:05Speaker 3: It absolutely does.
- 28:06Speaker 4: The natural part of being in this realm is every
- 28:10Speaker 4: you know, there's there's stakes to everything I do, and
- 28:13Speaker 4: if I can make money off of it, I'm going
- 28:15Speaker 4: to do it.
- 28:16Speaker 3: High school report is coming up next, and then Jared
- 28:19Speaker 3: and I are diving right back into this because I
- 28:21Speaker 3: want to keep this going before we start talking about
- 28:23Speaker 3: actual on the court stuff at the five o'clock hour.
- 28:26Speaker 3: But we'll be back in just a second. You're listening
- 28:28Speaker 3: to Chip HOURT Sports Talk taking over by Jason and

- 29:04Speaker 1: new tires or your tires rotated, or whatever it is.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Maybe you have something a little bit more complicated. They
- 29:11Speaker 1: do it every day, foreign domestic gasoline, diesel engine. Their
- 29:14Speaker 1: staff is second to none in the service. That's how

- 29:37Speaker 11: family recipe. Slovachic is the official sausage of Texas a
- 29:41Speaker 11: and m athletics. Whether it's from the grill to the
- 29:43Speaker 11: family gathering or from the pit to the neighborhood party,

- 30:04Speaker 5: Okay, So for the ad, I'm thinking fog machines, laser lines.
- 30:08Speaker 4: Maybe see free yes, like actually free? Yes, every Wednesday
- 30:13Speaker 4: night so I can get free barbecue. That's how kids
- 30:16Speaker 4: eat free works, Buddy, Wednesday is my favorite, Dan.
- 30:19Speaker 5: Now see no fog machine needed, oh man.
- 30:23Speaker 4: Kids eat free every Wednesday night.
- 30:24Speaker 12: It's seeing J Barbecue.
- 30:26Speaker 13: Great food, happy kids seeing J Barbecue because dinners shouldn't
- 30:30Speaker 13: be another battle.
- 30:32Speaker 4: Marty and McGee.
- 30:34Speaker 11: All right, So Marty got a Master's nome and we
- 30:37Speaker 11: want y'all to tell us what do you think we
- 30:40Speaker 11: should name it?
- 30:41Speaker 6: I think my I think my favorite one so far
- 30:45Speaker 6: is Greg Noman.
- 30:47Speaker 11: Okay, wait a bit the water that's free.
- 30:54Speaker 3: No man, no, that's really good.
- 30:57Speaker 14: Marty and McGee, Saturday morning sixty nine on the.
- 31:01Speaker 3: Three point seven FM.
- 31:18Speaker 12: Welcome into the High School Report.
- 31:20Speaker 15: I'm Kayler Brapley, and today we are jumping out to
- 31:22Speaker 15: the Polaris Fun Center phone line to visit with the
- 31:25Speaker 15: head coach of the Lake Creek Lady Lions softball team,
- 31:29Speaker 15: Miss Candice Carter coach, thanks for joining me once again.
- 31:32Speaker 7: Thank you, happy to be here, happy to have you.
- 31:35Speaker 15: So it was a great regular season for Lake Creek
- 31:38Speaker 15: twenty nine and one, going twelve to zero in district play.
- 31:42Speaker 15: That's the fifth time in the last six years that
- 31:45Speaker 15: Lake Creek has gone undefeated in district play.
- 31:48Speaker 12: What were some of the keys to success for your
- 31:50Speaker 12: squad this year?
- 31:52Speaker 7: Uh, you know, we do have a lot of returners
- 31:54Speaker 7: coming back from the previous year, so I think experience
- 31:57Speaker 7: definitely has a lot to do with it. We just
- 32:00Speaker 7: try to keep things really simple, not look too far ahead,
- 32:02Speaker 7: not live in the past, and just be present with
- 32:05Speaker 7: what we need to do.
- 32:05Speaker 10: It's the task at.
- 32:06Speaker 7: Hand that's upon us. With whatever the next step is,
- 32:09Speaker 7: we try to keep it pretty simple.
- 32:12Speaker 15: So, District seventeen was once again one of the toughest
- 32:15Speaker 15: districts to play in, and your squad, you know, managed
- 32:19Speaker 15: to come through it unscathed. How helpful was that to
- 32:23Speaker 15: have that level of competition and district play and how
- 32:26Speaker 15: much did that help get you ready for playoffs?
- 32:29Speaker 7: Yeah, our district is really competitive. We got a lot
- 32:31Speaker 7: of good athletes in our district's great coaching going on,
- 32:35Speaker 7: and so It definitely helps for repair us to be
- 32:37Speaker 7: ready for the postseason, just getting to see different matchups
- 32:40Speaker 7: and getting to see different arms, and so we definitely
- 32:43Speaker 7: credit our district a lot to preparing everyone and getting
- 32:46Speaker 7: ready for the postseason for sure.
- 32:49Speaker 15: So last weekend in the by district round in five
- 32:52Speaker 15: A Division two, your Lady Lions swept West Fork in
- 32:57Speaker 15: two games, ten to zero and fifteen to two.
- 33:00Speaker 12: What were some of your takeaways from that series?
- 33:03Speaker 7: You know, I really liked how we showed up for
- 33:04Speaker 7: Round one playoffs. We did a great job situationally hitting.
- 33:07Speaker 7: I felt like our hitters were really disciplined. All three
- 33:10Speaker 7: pitchers through and through exceptionally well. And so I liked
- 33:14Speaker 7: seeing all different facets of the game working and we
- 33:17Speaker 7: just hope to see that going into round two as well.
- 33:19Speaker 7: So looking forward to the matchup against Santa Fe.
- 33:22Speaker 15: You mentioned all three pitchers throwing well. How big of
- 33:25Speaker 15: an impact does that make having, you know, three pitchers
- 33:28Speaker 15: that you can rely on, because a lot of teams,
- 33:30Speaker 15: especially at the high school level, only have one or
- 33:32Speaker 15: two pitchers that they really feel comfortable throwing out there.
- 33:36Speaker 15: And you only gave up three hits across the two
- 33:38Speaker 15: games against West Fork. So how much of an impact
- 33:41Speaker 15: did that strong pitching staff make this season and in
- 33:44Speaker 15: that playoff game?
- 33:45Speaker 7: It makes a huge difference and definitely making sure that
- 33:48Speaker 7: we're able to get those pitchers playoff time as well,
- 33:52Speaker 7: because you know, that's where the nerves settle in and
- 33:55Speaker 7: things like that. And so we were happy that we
- 33:57Speaker 7: got to see all three of them in the series
- 34:00Speaker 7: against West Fork, and we were really happy with the
- 34:01Speaker 7: outcome with what they produced. And you know, I think
- 34:05Speaker 7: each part of our game trust one another. So I
- 34:08Speaker 7: think our pitching trust our offense. Our offense trust our defense,
- 34:11Speaker 7: and if we continue to work that way, then we
- 34:15Speaker 7: have a lot of confidence in what we can do,
- 34:16Speaker 7: not only at the plate, but defensively and on the mound.
- 34:19Speaker 15: You're getting ready take on Santa Fe in the area
- 34:22Speaker 15: around and that series got moved up to start tomorrow.
- 34:27Speaker 15: So how how different is the mindset? You know, last
- 34:30Speaker 15: week you played a double header in the playoff series.
- 34:34Speaker 15: This week, if you do go to a game three,
- 34:36Speaker 15: it'll be three games and three days. So how much
- 34:38Speaker 15: does that change the mindset for your girls?
- 34:41Speaker 7: You know, I don't know that the mindset necessarily changes,
- 34:44Speaker 7: but a doubleheader is always tough. You know, it's it's
- 34:49Speaker 7: a very long day. It's trying to keep everyone extremely
- 34:53Speaker 7: focused for a long period of time. So it's never
- 34:56Speaker 7: ideal to do the doubleheader, but it was well worked
- 34:58Speaker 7: out because of test sing and proms and things like that.
- 35:02Speaker 7: But this week we were able to spread it out
- 35:04Speaker 7: a little bit more and I think it's good for
- 35:06Speaker 7: both teams. I mean, everybody is able to get some rest,
- 35:09Speaker 7: everybody is able to get home in a decent hour
- 35:11Speaker 7: and wake up the next day because we still have
- 35:13Speaker 7: school and things like that. So if you can split
- 35:15Speaker 7: it up, I mean I'd always like to do that
- 35:17Speaker 7: for sure.
- 35:18Speaker 15: So the matchup is Santa Fe who is twenty six
- 35:22Speaker 15: and seven overall this year went eight and four in
- 35:25Speaker 15: District twenty play.
- 35:28Speaker 12: What do you expect to see from them?
- 35:30Speaker 7: You know, they're a highly competitive team, they're well coached.
- 35:33Speaker 7: We expect to see them, you know, bring their best game.
- 35:38Speaker 7: We know that they have some good arms, they have
- 35:40Speaker 7: a solid lineup. We have a lot of respect for
- 35:43Speaker 7: what they're going to do and we're excited to see
- 35:45Speaker 7: what they bring to the plate.
- 35:47Speaker 15: So this year's Lady Lions team pretty senior heavy. How
- 35:50Speaker 15: much does this playoff run mean to those seniors to
- 35:53Speaker 15: be able to continue repping that name on the front
- 35:55Speaker 15: of their jersey as long as they keep winning games.
- 35:58Speaker 7: You know, I think every playoff has its own different
- 36:02Speaker 7: emotions and different feelings with it. We do have nine seniors.
- 36:05Speaker 7: You are correct about that. I don't know if necessarily
- 36:09Speaker 7: the feeling changes year to year, but I think knowing
- 36:11Speaker 7: that it could, you know, every chance they get to
- 36:14Speaker 7: put that uniform on is one step closer to it
- 36:17Speaker 7: being the last time they put it on. I definitely
- 36:19Speaker 7: think there's some I think there's a little bit of
- 36:21Speaker 7: a sacred moment when that happens, and I think they're
- 36:24Speaker 7: really happy to get to continue to put it on
- 36:26Speaker 7: every single day. And you know, the thing about this
- 36:28Speaker 7: team is they've played together for so long, they truly
- 36:30Speaker 7: love each other. The chemistry is extremely special amongst this group,
- 36:33Speaker 7: especially amongst the senior class. And I think, you know,
- 36:37Speaker 7: we're just taking it one day at a time, trying
- 36:39Speaker 7: to keep it simple, not trying to look at the
- 36:43Speaker 7: the present or the future too much, trying to stay
- 36:45Speaker 7: present with what we need to do. But I do think,
- 36:49Speaker 7: you know, it is a heavy senior group, and I
- 36:52Speaker 7: think they're excited every time they get to lace up
- 36:53Speaker 7: those cleets and put the uniform on. Every single time,
- 36:56Speaker 7: it just gets a little bit more special and gets
- 36:58Speaker 7: us one step closer to this incredible legacy that they've
- 37:02Speaker 7: written and that they're getting to leave for the ones
- 37:04Speaker 7: to come.
- 37:05Speaker 15: All right, coach, well, thanks for your time today. Good
- 37:07Speaker 15: luck on this playoff run.
- 37:10Speaker 4: I appreciate it.
- 37:11Speaker 7: Caleb, thank you so much.

- 38:35Speaker 3: Chipbox Sports Talk on a Tuesday afternoon Sports Radio eleven
- 38:40Speaker 3: fifty AM, The Zone ninety through seven FM. That is
- 38:43Speaker 3: not Chip's voice, Jason Cornelie's here, Jared Hicks here. We
- 38:46Speaker 3: have been talking because it is such a huge thing
- 38:50Speaker 3: that I do not think, well, it's never gone away,
- 38:52Speaker 3: because you even mentioned going all the way back to
- 38:54Speaker 3: was it nineteen nineteen Black Sox scandal?
- 38:57Speaker 4: Or nineteen thirteen, Team nineteen.
- 39:01Speaker 3: Ninety eight, going all the way back to that of
- 39:04Speaker 3: how pervasive gambling is, and I really do think over
- 39:09Speaker 3: arching for a while it went away. But again, in
- 39:12Speaker 3: my opinion, as I thought players content, especially on the
- 39:16Speaker 3: professional levels, players contracts started going up, and they're they're
- 39:20Speaker 3: making all of this money, especially in the NBA, because
- 39:24Speaker 3: that was typically the easiest way to do the true
- 39:28Speaker 3: like the points shame, you have to lose a game,
- 39:30Speaker 3: you just manipulate the spread. And so when players started
- 39:34Speaker 3: making so much money, you didn't see that as much,
- 39:37Speaker 3: except now you do, and it's coming back, and and
- 39:40Speaker 3: I don't I don't know what or if there is
- 39:44Speaker 3: anything that can be done to fix it.
- 39:50Speaker 4: I mean, when again, when you get an actor, and
- 39:55Speaker 4: when I'm using the term actor as description of any
- 39:59Speaker 4: athlete who has a financial situation that requires quick, easy money,
- 40:06Speaker 4: and a lot of times it's rack its debt. They've
- 40:09Speaker 4: they've just racked up a massive amount of debt based
- 40:12Speaker 4: on any number of factors. They're the ones that are
- 40:17Speaker 4: easily going to be susceptible to what we've seen, especially
- 40:21Speaker 4: when you start looking at the NBA case of Terry
- 40:25Speaker 4: Rozier and and everything that associates it with that. The
- 40:28Speaker 4: Chauncey Billups side of it was something totally separate, although
- 40:33Speaker 4: there is apparently some crossover in the character the background.
- 40:38Speaker 4: But I mean that to me speaks more about, just
- 40:44Speaker 4: like I said, like we were talking about before the
- 40:46Speaker 4: high School report, the pervasive nature of when you are
- 40:49Speaker 4: when you are an athlete, and especially one that gets
- 40:54Speaker 4: to the collegiate. But I mean you you sometimes see
- 40:58Speaker 4: it a high school, but you see it in the collegiate,
- 41:00Speaker 4: especially in the professional levels, being on the road and
- 41:05Speaker 4: playing those card games and you know, you're you're betting
- 41:10Speaker 4: next next month's paycheck and and things like that. Or
- 41:13Speaker 4: you know, if if you're Michael Jordan, you're betting six
- 41:16Speaker 4: figures on.
- 41:16Speaker 3: A what well we're And that's what made me start
- 41:20Speaker 3: to chuckle a little bit, like when you noticed Michael.
- 41:23Speaker 3: We saw in the last dance Michael Jordan was taught
- 41:25Speaker 3: was gambling over like flipping quarters up against the wall.
- 41:29Speaker 3: I see if we get closer to the wall, you know,
- 41:30Speaker 3: we played that game and like, yeah.
- 41:33Speaker 4: I mean, honestly speaking, we may never know. Was the
- 41:37Speaker 4: retirement actually David Stern saying we need you to leave
- 41:42Speaker 4: for two years because we know what's going on. I mean, again,
- 41:45Speaker 4: this is reckless speculation, but I mean it's been out there.
- 41:48Speaker 3: That all of this is yeah, and and people go
- 41:51Speaker 3: up and down with that, I will say, speaking and
- 41:53Speaker 3: just completely off tangent. I saw that Charles Barkley and
- 41:58Speaker 3: Michael Jordan are finally talking again, which is just that
- 42:03Speaker 3: is the world is better when those two are actually friends.
- 42:06Speaker 3: And I guess now that Michael is no longer the
- 42:09Speaker 3: owner of the Charlotte Hornets, he recognizes that maybe Charles
- 42:13Speaker 3: was right.
- 42:14Speaker 4: I mean, when when you watch that interview with Gail
- 42:16Speaker 4: King and he's talking about being a NASCAR honestly, this
- 42:20Speaker 4: is the first time I've seen him with joy Oh
- 42:23Speaker 4: he's I mean because the interview with Mike Erico that
- 42:27Speaker 4: they keep running on and you put it the almost
- 42:30Speaker 4: unwatchable NBA on NBC, Well that's interesting. Yeah, it's just
- 42:35Speaker 4: him talking about the sport that he's he is most
- 42:40Speaker 4: he will always be known for. But when you watch
- 42:42Speaker 4: that interview with Gail King, you see that he feels
- 42:45Speaker 4: a relief in the fact he can be himself at
- 42:50Speaker 4: at NASCAR events when you're walking through when he's walking
- 42:53Speaker 4: through the garage and he's walking down Pitt Lane, and
- 42:56Speaker 4: fans have even said this that he's nice, very approachable,
- 43:00Speaker 4: you take pictures. It's not like when he goes to
- 43:02Speaker 4: the NBA and he is seen as you know, this
- 43:05Speaker 4: thing higher than the than your typical man. Right, And
- 43:11Speaker 4: so yeah, there's a lot to be said about just
- 43:14Speaker 4: the freedom that comes from doing something that he's he's
- 43:16Speaker 4: always had a love for because he's a he's a
- 43:18Speaker 4: North Carolina boy.
- 43:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 43:19Speaker 4: Well, because I know a lot of way I'm saying
- 43:21Speaker 4: North Carolina boy in the propper term. I don't want
- 43:25Speaker 4: to get any phone calls. He was a young man
- 43:29Speaker 4: who grew up in North Carolina.
- 43:30Speaker 3: Well, we gotta think about it. And I know we're
- 43:32Speaker 3: ill talking about it, but like whether it's him, whether
- 43:34Speaker 3: it's Brad Dougherty who was also in the NBA and
- 43:37Speaker 3: was huge into NASCAR. Brad Dougherty had it, was a
- 43:40Speaker 3: co owner of of of an NASCAR team even before
- 43:43Speaker 3: Jordan was like all of those North Carolina boys, I'll
- 43:47Speaker 3: say it to their Nascar was there.
- 43:50Speaker 4: That's I mean, that is their first love. That's their
- 43:52Speaker 4: first love. It's a religion in that part of the country,
- 43:55Speaker 4: believe it or not, absolutely, it's hard. I guess in
- 43:58Speaker 4: Texas high school before is the equivalent to what NASCAR
- 44:01Speaker 4: is over there because the way we talk about, uh,
- 44:06Speaker 4: you know the famous high school athletes that came up
- 44:10Speaker 4: through Texas.
- 44:11Speaker 3: That they can they know the drivers and the like,
- 44:15Speaker 3: all of that stuff, all.
- 44:16Speaker 4: The connections, all the times they gotten in fist fights
- 44:19Speaker 4: and fights with wrenches. Anyway, I know we're kind of
- 44:21Speaker 4: getting off topic here, but again, you know, it just
- 44:25Speaker 4: shows you that even at even at the height of popularity,
- 44:28Speaker 4: at the height of earning capability, with what he was
- 44:32Speaker 4: doing with Nike, because we know from his NBA contract,
- 44:35Speaker 4: yes he was probably one of the higher paid NBA stars,
- 44:38Speaker 4: but the money he made from Nike dwarfs that. Even then.
- 44:43Speaker 4: The competitiveness and the compulsion to to gamble and wager
- 44:49Speaker 4: is there for these guys who are just so used
- 44:51Speaker 4: to competing in every.
- 44:53Speaker 3: And every single thing. I'm gonna get his back on
- 44:55Speaker 3: topic here in just a second, but real quick, we're
- 44:58Speaker 3: gonna do the Astros report and then back and I
- 45:00Speaker 3: really want to kind of hone back into the hammer
- 45:02Speaker 3: and the nail that Jared was talking about when it
- 45:04Speaker 3: comes to college sports. We'll be back in just a second.
- 45:07Speaker 3: You're listening to chip Our Sports Talk taking over by

- 46:23Speaker 8: The Houston Astros are back in action tonight after an
- 46:26Speaker 8: off day yesterday, as the team begins a six game
- 46:28Speaker 8: road trip with a three game series in Baltimore against
- 46:30Speaker 8: the Orioles. It's no secret the Astros have struggled in
- 46:33Speaker 8: the early going of the twenty twenty sixth season. The
- 46:35Speaker 8: Astros are just eleven and eighteen and in the basement
- 46:38Speaker 8: of the American League West, but general manager Dana Brown
- 46:41Speaker 8: offered a public backing of manager Joe A Spot on Sunday.
- 46:45Speaker 8: Brown told The Athletic that the team is not considering
- 46:47Speaker 8: a managerial change. Despite the team's slow start to the season,
- 46:51Speaker 8: the Astros pitching staff has been decimated by injuries. Ace Hunter,
- 46:55Speaker 8: Brown and Christian Javier have totaled only five starts because
- 46:58Speaker 8: of shoulder strains, and both.
- 47:00Speaker 12: Remain on the injured list. Among other notable injuries.
- 47:03Speaker 8: Houston's team Era is an al worse six point oh four.
- 47:07Speaker 8: Houston will look to turn it around in Baltimore tonight.
- 47:09Speaker 8: First pitch is at five point thirty five with your
- 47:12Speaker 8: Houston Astros report.
- 47:13Speaker 12: I'm Jake Reip.
- 47:15Speaker 14: This summer Rock to Country bestival for the people.
- 47:18Speaker 12: It is hitting seven.
- 47:19Speaker 14: Markets across the US and don't think a stop in Belleville, Texas,
- 47:22Speaker 14: May first through the second. Yeah, it's over fifty years
- 47:28Speaker 14: of freedom with Jason Aldean, Kid Rock Hello.
- 47:30Speaker 3: Legley is many four.

- 47:51Speaker 19: Weekend's a litmit to two on the Zone.
- 48:03Speaker 4: I Love My ser I Watch you.
- 48:09Speaker 3: Down, I watch you the Love how such my set?
- 48:14Speaker 19: I Watch you.
- 48:17Speaker 4: Is there?
- 48:20Speaker 13: Hold on?
- 48:21Speaker 3: Okay years?
- 48:29Speaker 4: Okay, so that song came on today. Now we've talked
- 48:34Speaker 4: about I mean in the entire history of our hosting
- 48:39Speaker 4: nineties considered the best decade music. That song came out
- 48:43Speaker 4: in nineteen ninety. That song played on terrestrial radio. It
- 48:47Speaker 4: played on terrestrial radio. No. Now, granted, there have been
- 48:54Speaker 4: other songs prior to this that talked about self satisfaction,
- 49:00Speaker 4: but most of the time the language was coded, so
- 49:03Speaker 4: for instance, Relaxed by Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Turning Japanese
- 49:07Speaker 4: by the Vapors, things like that. But that song, again,
- 49:12Speaker 4: there's there's no hiding what it is. So obviously when
- 49:16Speaker 4: we're in the truck and we're listening to the ninety
- 49:19Speaker 4: station and I see that song coming on, it is
- 49:21Speaker 4: flip as as possible, which is crazy to think about.
- 49:27Speaker 3: You know.
- 49:27Speaker 4: However, many years in nineteen ninety, the fact that we'd
- 49:31Speaker 4: be in the car and you just gotta let it
- 49:33Speaker 4: play because what else we gonna do. You got to
- 49:35Speaker 4: turn the dial and hope you you find the current.
- 49:38Speaker 3: The other day, just like, there is zero way that
- 49:43Speaker 3: I should have been both listening to the Purple Rain
- 49:48Speaker 3: album but also going to I would like I was
- 49:51Speaker 3: with my parents and saw Purple and looking it it
- 49:54Speaker 3: was that, but like, there's no way that I should
- 49:55Speaker 3: have been watching Purple Rain, and I still like my
- 49:58Speaker 3: parents wanted to see it. Baby, We're gonna go watch
- 50:01Speaker 3: Purple right.
- 50:01Speaker 4: Yeah, it's with age and obviously with the internet, we
- 50:08Speaker 4: are learning the background to so many songs. All right,
- 50:11Speaker 4: I'm gonna say yes, thank you. I want I want
- 50:13Speaker 4: to do this real quick.
- 50:15Speaker 3: We're gonna see how many of our eighty four listeners
- 50:17Speaker 3: are paying attention right now.
- 50:18Speaker 4: If you would like to win two tickets to the
- 50:21Speaker 4: Rock the Country Festival Friday May first, be caller number
- 50:26Speaker 4: three to nine seven nine six nine three one one
- 50:29Speaker 4: five zero. Again, that is caller number three nine seven
- 50:33Speaker 4: nine six nine three one one five zero to win
- 50:35Speaker 4: two tickets to the Rock the Country Music Festival in
- 50:39Speaker 4: Belleville on Friday, May first.
- 50:43Speaker 3: Sorry, I just heard the commercial right before that that
- 50:45Speaker 3: that that got me.
- 50:46Speaker 4: At the end, Yeah, redneck little John Okay, Now they.
- 50:56Speaker 3: Didn't say okay, Yeah, who.
- 51:02Speaker 4: Did you see?
- 51:02Speaker 3: Chappelle said he might be coming back.
- 51:07Speaker 4: That's it's just not rest in power to Charlie Murphy.
- 51:11Speaker 4: I just don't know if it can be the same
- 51:12Speaker 4: without it can't.
- 51:13Speaker 3: But he said that he'd be. One of the reasons
- 51:15Speaker 3: why he's even considering is because Eddie said that he
- 51:18Speaker 3: would do Charlie Murphy's parts.
- 51:19Speaker 4: Okay, i'm m that was.
- 51:22Speaker 3: The oh he said that was what he was able
- 51:25Speaker 3: to talk to Eddie Murphy and they were going over it,
- 51:29Speaker 3: and Eddie said that he would consider doing his brother's parts.
- 51:33Speaker 3: I got it to do some of those skits.
- 51:35Speaker 4: The my my I G algorithm. It cycles. But once
- 51:39Speaker 4: I start liking one of those Chappelle's show clips from
- 51:43Speaker 4: from the from the mid two thousands, all of a sudden,
- 51:45Speaker 4: I start getting more and it just what, just what
- 51:50Speaker 4: there might not There may not be a funnier two
- 51:54Speaker 4: years oh no comedy than those two seasons.
- 51:59Speaker 3: Rick James, like you, what did the five fingers say
- 52:03Speaker 3: to the face?
- 52:05Speaker 4: Slap? Oh blooded my five favorite rappers.
- 52:12Speaker 3: Die Lion, Dialon, Dialon, dialon and Die Lion.
- 52:16Speaker 4: But you brought up purple Rain. I still believe that
- 52:20Speaker 4: the USA Charlie Murphy playing basketball against Prince is funnier
- 52:24Speaker 4: than the Rick James. Uh oh true, Charlie Murphy.
- 52:28Speaker 19: Yeah.
- 52:29Speaker 3: And and here's the thing, Prince confirmed that. Yeah, absolutely
- 52:33Speaker 3: confirmed the story.
- 52:34Speaker 4: Because it's it's only and it's only like ten minutes,
- 52:36Speaker 4: whereas as the Rick James I believe stretches over two episodes,
- 52:39Speaker 4: but that ten minutes to me is just packed with
- 52:43Speaker 4: so much funny game. Yeah, anyway, glouses like it is,
- 52:47Speaker 4: and Prince confirmed it is, like oh, and I mean
- 52:51Speaker 4: I've heard from other celebrities over time, like uh, ping pong,
- 52:56Speaker 4: I mean any number of sports. Prince was, Prince was, well,
- 53:00Speaker 4: we were talking about Michael Jordan. He was a competitive Yeah,
- 53:02Speaker 4: absolutely was.
- 53:05Speaker 3: What Yeah, so yeah that was And when when he
- 53:08Speaker 3: said and I saw that, like the the he because
- 53:12Speaker 3: Davis talked about he's like, he's not doing anymore, like
- 53:14Speaker 3: that is past. But he said the main reason why
- 53:17Speaker 3: he is even fully considering it now one because he
- 53:20Speaker 3: owns the show again. And then two he said he
- 53:22Speaker 3: spoke to Eddie Murphy and Eddie said that he would
- 53:24Speaker 3: do Charlie Murphy's parts and to to make that happen.
- 53:29Speaker 3: And so if that, even if it's just like an
- 53:33Speaker 3: eight episode mini like a mini season, like it would
- 53:38Speaker 3: be the most streamed.
- 53:41Speaker 4: Oh, I'm certain Netflix, because I'm assuming his his deal
- 53:46Speaker 4: with Netflix is where that will He'll be shocked. Oh man,
- 53:52Speaker 4: that might be eight figure.
- 53:53Speaker 3: The Mike Tyson fight and I think they've they've broken
- 53:57Speaker 3: a couple of times, but the Mike Tyson. I know,
- 53:59Speaker 3: like streaming mess up because of how many people were
- 54:02Speaker 3: like I if yeah, the the opening day, like the
- 54:06Speaker 3: moment that is released, Netflix will probably break yeah because
- 54:10Speaker 3: that many people will will want to to dive into
- 54:13Speaker 3: and watch it, and I will be one of them
- 54:15Speaker 3: quickly before we go to the top of the hour.
- 54:18Speaker 3: I just I did not and I do not understand
- 54:23Speaker 3: I know the n C. This may be the one
- 54:25Speaker 3: thing that the n C double A can can really
- 54:30Speaker 3: sink their gums into, because that's like we've talked about
- 54:33Speaker 3: how youruthless they are.
- 54:34Speaker 4: I mean, I you know, I had a I had
- 54:36Speaker 4: a friend who worked for A and M Athletics in
- 54:38Speaker 4: the graphic design department, and even he could not do
- 54:43Speaker 4: fantasy football.
- 54:44Speaker 3: If you have there is no any tie to the athletic.
- 54:47Speaker 4: Any tie to athletics means zero on gambling. And that's
- 54:51Speaker 4: like the one of the few rules that comes down
- 54:55Speaker 4: from the Almighty or he who should not be named,
- 54:59Speaker 4: that goes to every employee. And that's just I mean,
- 55:02Speaker 4: there's no question to it. But like I said, when
- 55:06Speaker 4: you start talking about and and again, I'm all up
- 55:11Speaker 4: for the discussion on player equality, paying, the paying these
- 55:17Speaker 4: athletes for what they're doing. And honestly, a scholarship is
- 55:21Speaker 4: not enough because when you when you tie on all
- 55:23Speaker 4: the restrictions that again said n C double A has
- 55:25Speaker 4: placed on these athletes that they cannot earn money or
- 55:28Speaker 4: they can only get so many meals per day. There
- 55:32Speaker 4: there is justification for you've got to make You've got
- 55:34Speaker 4: to find a way to make it. And again this
- 55:39Speaker 4: is this is a it's an easy route. It's easily exploited,
- 55:43Speaker 4: and that to me is where the inherent danger is
- 55:46Speaker 4: is because as more and more, as as again as
- 55:50Speaker 4: the access becomes easier and easier, and that's the problem
- 55:53Speaker 4: you're going to.
- 55:54Speaker 3: Like me, that's what I have have failed to understand
- 55:57Speaker 3: in this is how accessible now sports betting is, especially
- 56:02Speaker 3: like the prop bets and all of those things, like
- 56:04Speaker 3: it is so the accessible.
- 56:07Speaker 4: The prediction markets because those those are not bound by
- 56:12Speaker 4: state gambling lots. Those are completely different. But that it's
- 56:15Speaker 4: just as dangerous it is, if.
- 56:16Speaker 3: Not more so, Like all of that comes in. And
- 56:18Speaker 3: that's where if there's been something that I have myself
- 56:21Speaker 3: have drastically underestimated just how easily it is, like because
- 56:25Speaker 3: before you had to find the kid at you in
- 56:27Speaker 3: your dorm. That was gonna be the bookie for everybody,
- 56:30Speaker 3: and now it's just yeah, just grab your phone and
- 56:32Speaker 3: it's right there.
- 56:33Speaker 4: Yep.
- 56:34Speaker 3: Coming up after the top of the hour, we are
- 56:35Speaker 3: gonna dive onto some actual on the court stuff and
- 56:38Speaker 3: talk NBA playoffs will be back in just a second.
