- 0:03Welcome to Rad Cast, the Random Ass Dudes podcast where
- 0:07absolutely nothing's off limits. Hosted by two guys with no
- 0:10script, no agenda and no clue what's coming.
- 0:13Next. If it's random, it's fair game.
- 0:17TuneIn. Laugh with us, argue with us, or
- 0:19just wonder what the hell did I just listen to?
- 0:22New episodes come out weekly and here Chaos is.
- 0:24Guaranteed. I had to hit record on that one
- 0:30because we made a mistake last time where I didn't hit record
- 0:33and then it's just it was a shit.
- 0:35Show, yeah. Well, here we are back at it
- 0:40man, where we take like a couple weeks off.
- 0:42Took two weeks off. Yeah, we needed it.
- 0:44Yeah, it was a lot, man. It was.
- 0:46It's like, you know, at the beginning of this it's like I
- 0:49was like, go, go, go, let's go, you know, balls to the wall.
- 0:52But dude, it's so much work that goes into it, you know, that I
- 0:56didn't even like realize. You know, I think it's big, you
- 1:00know, starting anything new to try to keep it fresh.
- 1:03Don't burn yourself out right away.
- 1:05Yeah. Well, we were on the verge, but
- 1:07we have so much going on. I mean, you know, you've got the
- 1:10kids getting ready to start sports.
- 1:11I mean, you see Sam back there saddling the horse, but she's
- 1:14getting ready to train with Trev.
- 1:16You know, we were at the rodeo last night.
- 1:18You were out bucking bulls. Yeah.
- 1:20How did that go? And you know, it's been a
- 1:23whirlwind with the bull riding and I'm just thankful I finally
- 1:25got one Rd. I was every other time I go been
- 1:30riding lately, at least I'm like, I'm ready to hang it up.
- 1:32And I'm like, dude, I'm not riding nothing.
- 1:34And it's just not clicking. Nothing feels right.
- 1:37And it just came around full circle for me.
- 1:41And in terms of being gritty and just, you know, staying in it
- 1:45even when it's real bad, you know, when you're not, when
- 1:47you're even when you're not winning, just still believing,
- 1:49keeping the mindset. And I was the biggest test for
- 1:53me, I'd say, because for the longest time, you know, it was
- 1:57a, a real battle in my mind. Well, I, I know.
- 2:01So the last time we were out and watched you, you had a great
- 2:03ride and then you were saying that you were struggling and you
- 2:05felt like you're off. Last night when we talked before
- 2:08you, you rode, there was a different Trevor there, right?
- 2:11Like you were checked in, you were locked in ready to roll
- 2:14even like you know, whether you know, people are paying
- 2:17attention to your warm ups and stuff like that and not just
- 2:20those of us watching the rodeo, but like other riders are
- 2:23watching you do that. It it was neat to see you check
- 2:27in last night and be like, no, I'm going to ride this some
- 2:29bitch like we're. We're and that's that's just,
- 2:32it's real simple. That's that's the only thing.
- 2:35First off a bull riding. You got to keep it simple.
- 2:38And that was my whole idea of going into it was you've been
- 2:41here before, you've done this before.
- 2:44Keep it simple. Don't come here and say all I
- 2:46need to do this, this and this. Get in there.
- 2:49Get your stuff set up. Yeah.
- 2:50Warm up, you know, be in the moment.
- 2:53So obviously, you know, talk, socialize, interact with the
- 2:56other people, you know, talk about bull riding.
- 2:58You're there to bull ride. And then just stay loose.
- 3:02And, you know, I thought about the bull riding instead of going
- 3:05in there like, like I'm playing football and I want to see all
- 3:08the videos of this bull and who rode them and what he did this
- 3:12trip and that trip. That's what I've been doing
- 3:15right the thus far. And I hadn't wrote anything.
- 3:19And so I was like, you know what, I'm going to go back to,
- 3:23you know, bare minimum before I even knew how serious this Boren
- 3:27was. You didn't know what you were
- 3:29getting on. You just got on them and hope
- 3:31for the best. And that's ultimately what I did
- 3:33was like, look, dude, you get in here, bear down and and that's
- 3:37it. Yeah, what was funny, though,
- 3:39and you weren't there last night, but when they pulled the
- 3:42chute, when they swam the door, he wasn't ready.
- 3:46You know Trev? No, Trev talks with his.
- 3:48He's very active when he talks. Very active, very loud, very
- 3:53much the boss when I step over in the chute respectfully, as
- 3:56you should be in I, I always go with the motto in the chute.
- 4:00Go as slow as you can in a hurry.
- 4:02Well, that the the guy I was at on the lives last night.
- 4:05He's, he's worked a lot of events with me riding and he
- 4:09knows my, my routine for the most part.
- 4:12I just wish you'd have been paying a little bit more
- 4:14attention. And I told him, you know, I
- 4:16might have been upset if I didn't ride that bull.
- 4:18So the fact that I rode them, I'm not going to really complain
- 4:20too much. But I was taking my rap and
- 4:24luckily I had the rope already real tight.
- 4:27And as soon as I got that come around my hand and finally had a
- 4:32full rap, the bull wanted to squat.
- 4:35And so all us guys are trying to get this bull to stand up, and
- 4:40I'm spurring them over his shoulder.
- 4:42This bull just doesn't want to move.
- 4:45And one of my buddies finally gets him to stand up a little
- 4:48bit. And as I'm getting set, I'm
- 4:49watching this gate just open up in my peripheral.
- 4:53And I'm like, you know what, It's time to ride.
- 4:55And it kind of made me just respond.
- 4:58That's it. Like all I could do was react
- 5:00and I wasn't. I'm just thankful I wrote them
- 5:04because I'm not sure how that would have played out if I
- 5:06didn't. It's like, it's like crazy
- 5:08hearing your side of your ride, right?
- 5:11Because I saw the video and you don't see that.
- 5:16You don't see that in the video because it looked like you
- 5:20obviously wrote it. So I was like it.
- 5:21Didn't look like that in person. When he told us he wasn't
- 5:24prepared, I was like, bro, you came out to shoot looking like
- 5:26you were on fire and he's like you just responded.
- 5:30Luckily, like I said, I was up on my rope and the way that bull
- 5:34left, I had enough time to kind of get back to my hand.
- 5:37But the way it all started out, I didn't, it didn't feel right,
- 5:42you know, he he kind of jerked on me.
- 5:44But nonetheless, it played out how I wanted to.
- 5:48I mean, yeah, you want. That place went ape shit.
- 5:51Yeah, you know my. Voice is struggling today over.
- 5:54It and I went ape shit too and I hit the ground and icing on the
- 5:59cake, I don't land on my feet very often.
- 6:01Whether you know, obviously if you're getting bucked off,
- 6:03you're probably you shouldn't be landing on your feet if you're
- 6:05getting bucked off. But I hit the ground and that or
- 6:10like you said, that place was electric.
- 6:12Yeah, it was awesome. Did they have a buzzer?
- 6:14I didn't. I didn't hear.
- 6:15A buzzer airline. Oh God, I felt like it was late.
- 6:19I thought there too. I felt like I rode that bull for
- 6:2110 seconds. That's.
- 6:22What I thought too. At one point we got near the out
- 6:25gate, I felt him kind of stacking up a little bit and
- 6:28bucking in the same spot and I'm just like, where is the horn?
- 6:31And I finally heard it. Is that, uh, is that like a like
- 6:35a thing that bull riders or bronc riders like you go past
- 6:38the past the horn? You better.
- 6:40Yeah. You know, you want to ride him
- 6:41for 10. You don't want to get off right
- 6:44at the horn and leave it up to the judges.
- 6:46Yeah. Yeah.
- 6:46Did he ride him for 8? Did he not?
- 6:48One guy has 7.9. The other guy on the other side
- 6:51of the arena has got 8.1. Yeah.
- 6:53And they're trying to figure out if they're going to give it to
- 6:55you or not. Here with the mic real quick.
- 6:59Appreciate it was it was. It was definitely a lot of fun
- 7:02to watch and to see again, 'cause there were other riders
- 7:05that that had that had rides that were qualified rides.
- 7:09So and what, how, how many events had it gone?
- 7:12No rides. Three, there's been three weeks.
- 7:15It's been 3 weeks now for the Open division.
- 7:17Same bulls, so different different livestock.
- 7:20Don't mix the pin up. It's the same stock contractor.
- 7:22OK, but as the weeks go on, like last week was completely what we
- 7:27call a campaigner pin, like everyone that drew a bull should
- 7:31have rubbed their bull. It was the exact opposite, polar
- 7:34opposite. We all bucked off and and then
- 7:37it's next week. She brought she brought a little
- 7:39bit more heat this week and luckily I, I held on to 1.
- 7:43But usually she'll mix the pin up and I think she goes based
- 7:48off of, you know, the flow of the bull riders, you know who's
- 7:51coming and who's winning. You know, if everybody's riding
- 7:54everything well, she's going to start bringing some Eliminator
- 7:56symbols that buck a little harder.
- 7:58And you know, when stuff starts to die out, you know, she'll
- 8:02bring something a little bit easier to ride.
- 8:04But you know, I can't control that part.
- 8:07Yeah, well, I think the second ride out went 68, right.
- 8:10I think it was the second dude out went 68.
- 8:12It was like 6864 and somebody later in the second round had a
- 8:1662 and then he posted a 76 on what was it, Warlord?
- 8:22Yes, Sir. Yeah, that was badass.
- 8:24And I definitely not my favorite draw.
- 8:26It's kind of funny how it played out because us guys were in the
- 8:29back talking about, you know what bulls that she brought for
- 8:32the day. And you know, this is before the
- 8:34draw come out. We're sitting there like, you
- 8:36know, what do you want to draw? And I'm like, dude, I want Kit
- 8:38Kat so bad. I get Kit Kat, I'm going to pay
- 8:40window. Like I'm telling everybody like
- 8:42I need Kit Kat, eat Kit Kat. And then they're like, yeah,
- 8:45man, honestly, all of them are cool.
- 8:46You just don't want that warlord bull, you know, he's all over
- 8:49the place and he's terrible in the shooting.
- 8:52I'm like, yeah, I never been on. I'm not, you know, I wasn't
- 8:55thinking nothing of it. Not even 5 minutes later, the
- 8:57draw comes out. Warlord Trevor Clark.
- 8:59And I'm like, lovely. And that's how it goes
- 9:03everywhere every like at least lately.
- 9:06And honestly, I just might as well be ready for it to happen
- 9:10here on I'm going to draw what I Don't want.
- 9:13And you just got to face your fear, in a sense.
- 9:17Do you do you always have to wait for the draw draw or can
- 9:22you guys volunteer on what bulls to pick?
- 9:24No, you you. You always have to wait for the
- 9:26draw, at least when it's for the money.
- 9:28There is an event called CCT and the CCT bull ridings.
- 9:34It's set up to where you get to come in and pick your bull, and
- 9:37that's based off of a ranking system on who gets to pick first
- 9:41and whatnot. But there's different ways they
- 9:43go about it. But usually if you're riding for
- 9:45money, it's completely a draw. Yeah.
- 9:49How long, How long have you been?
- 9:50How long have you been a bull rider for?
- 9:52Bull riding, I say, taking it serious about four years.
- 9:56About four years, yeah. What is it?
- 9:58Like what? Why?
- 9:59What's your? Starting out just cowboying, I,
- 10:04I grew up on my uncle's ranch in California and I got, I only
- 10:08got, the only time I got around horses and cattle was in the
- 10:11summers. You know, it was three months
- 10:14every year. And I went one year when I was
- 10:17nine years old. It was Thanksgiving weekend and
- 10:20we go out there and I was at my uncle's ranch and I'm watching
- 10:23him feed and I'm watching just how, you know, I could see the
- 10:26energy and the aura coming off my uncle at such a young age.
- 10:29I'm like, dude, he's just, he's living the dream.
- 10:32And the day I got out of school that summer, I went out to his
- 10:36house and didn't come home till the day I have to be back in
- 10:39school. And I just kept doing it year
- 10:41after year after year. And then I got to high school
- 10:45and I kind of got, you know, lost and drifted off into the,
- 10:49you know, the typical high school lifestyle.
- 10:51And I was playing football, playing all types of sports.
- 10:55And, you know, I always loved I still had a passion for the
- 10:59lifestyle, but I didn't it wasn't right there in front of
- 11:02me. I had too too much stuff going
- 11:04on. And I went and played college
- 11:06football and that didn't end very well.
- 11:09You know, I kind of just died out and gave up on that dream.
- 11:12And for a while, I just wasn't happy at home.
- 11:15You know, I just felt like I was getting up, go to work, go home,
- 11:20do it again. And it was just getting old
- 11:22quick. And I was like, you know,
- 11:24there's there's got to be something bigger, more.
- 11:26And I need some fun in my life. And it just so happened that
- 11:32later on and as the timeline went by, Fast forward to 2020, I
- 11:37was hanging out one of my buddies the regular day and I
- 11:40ended up getting shot in the face.
- 11:43And this is one of my best friends at the time that tried
- 11:46to kill me. And at that moment, it really
- 11:50took me to a real dark place. Like I didn't want to leave the
- 11:54house. I just stayed in my room.
- 11:56And I'm, I'm the type of person to just go outside, just to be
- 11:59outside, just sit outside and just look at the sky.
- 12:01I got, I got a cold time out here.
- 12:03You got to go back to it. You have to, you have to go back
- 12:07to that story. OK.
- 12:09Let's go on. Let's go on.
- 12:10A little side you just kind of pass by.
- 12:12Yeah, shot in the face. It's been a little bit of time
- 12:14and a lot of people, you know, they hear me say that and I just
- 12:17kind of breeze passing. I'm not avoiding it.
- 12:19We can talk about it. We can go completely in depth,
- 12:22detail by detail. But at the time I, I was, I had
- 12:27a buddy that we were tight since freshman year high school.
- 12:31And when I started driving, it was like I picked him up from
- 12:34school every day, all that type of stuff.
- 12:36And we never really had any situations where it was like
- 12:41where we got beef or we're not, we're not cool right now.
- 12:44It was never nothing on that big of a scale.
- 12:48And one day just hit me up to hang out.
- 12:51It was later in the night and we went for a ride and it was kind
- 12:56of stale. You know, the energy is just
- 12:57wasn't right in the car. But this is, like I said, one of
- 13:01my bestest friends. So I'm putting it right past and
- 13:03I'm like maybe he's just having a bad day.
- 13:05And we decided we're going to go to one of my other buddies
- 13:09houses and we're pulling in and I'm telling this guy like where
- 13:13to park. He's never been in this buddies
- 13:15house, he's never been in. He's stalling, he's missing each
- 13:19parking spot. He's going like 5 miles an hour.
- 13:21And I'm like, you know, still like I'm like, dude, park here,
- 13:25park here. And he's like I And then we
- 13:28finally get about 40 yards pass where I'm telling him to park
- 13:32and he's like, I just want to talk to you before we go
- 13:34upstairs. And I'm like, everything all
- 13:36right, You know, I'm super high energy all the time.
- 13:39I'm like, everything all right, what's going on?
- 13:41Everything's good. No, everything's fine.
- 13:43And I'm like, OK, well, we can talk upstairs.
- 13:45He's like, all right. And I'm in the passenger seat.
- 13:48So I grabbed my, I think I got an Arizona tee or something like
- 13:50that. I grabbed it, closed the door
- 13:53and I'm walking in the front of the hood and if I'm in a
- 13:56driver's seat he just props the door and reaches through the
- 13:59driver's door jamb and just shoots me holy.
- 14:02And this bullet goes straight through my jaw, shatters it and
- 14:08I get up and I'm running down the street or not down the
- 14:12street, but down this apartment like parking lot.
- 14:15And I run. I probably, you know, I used to
- 14:17play football. I probably ran A4240 that day.
- 14:20And as I'm running, he's still shooting.
- 14:22There's flames coming out of this gun.
- 14:23And I'm, you know, literally running for my life at this
- 14:27point. And I turned the corner and my
- 14:30other buddies coming down the stairs and he's like, dude, do
- 14:32you hear any shots? And I got my hands on my face
- 14:35and I play around way too much. I learned after the fact that
- 14:39day because he's looking at me and he's like stop playing and
- 14:43I'm like dude, I moved my hands and the blood just was
- 14:48everywhere. Just just kept on coming out.
- 14:50And that's when I started freaking out a little bit.
- 14:53But I never passed out throughout the whole situation.
- 14:56Like I remember every bit of it and it felt like forever for the
- 15:02ambulance to get there and stuff like that.
- 15:04But they came and took care of me.
- 15:06I was home in 2 1/2 days. That's wild.
- 15:09Yeah, that surgeon I was, I got in the hospital that night and
- 15:13that morning at 4:00 AM, they come in and he woke me up and
- 15:16was like, hey, buddy, we're going to surgery.
- 15:17I'm going to fix you up. And I went into surgery for
- 15:21about 3 hours. And when I come out, I couldn't
- 15:24open my mouth. I was, I was wired shut.
- 15:26And this is how I was talking for six weeks.
- 15:29And. So after after he shot you and
- 15:32you ran, you got to your buddy's house?
- 15:37Did he just leave? He so as I was running, he was
- 15:40pulling out of the parking spot and like headed out, but he's
- 15:44still firing. And so to my knowledge, he
- 15:47exited because once the everyone knew what was going on, they
- 15:51couldn't find him. Police couldn't find him.
- 15:53And I heard a helicopter at one point.
- 15:55And I mean, what were they really going to look for?
- 15:59They hadn't talked to me. They didn't know what vehicle
- 16:01he's in or what direction he's going, None of that.
- 16:08I apologize. You said that over there.
- 16:11Oh, you're good. But you know, there was, there
- 16:15was in that moment from when I ran to turning in, in that
- 16:22ambulance, you know, there was. I'm telling you guys, it felt
- 16:25like an eternity, like there was so many thoughts going through
- 16:28my head. At one point it felt like my
- 16:30mouth was gone. And then I ended up running up
- 16:34the stairs. Once I turned the corner, I ran
- 16:35up the stairs past my buddy after the initial.
- 16:39Did you hear the gunshots? And I, you know, once he
- 16:43realized that I was shot, I'm telling him to call someone.
- 16:45He was in complete shock, like just frozen.
- 16:48And I ran up past him into his apartment and licked in the
- 16:52mirror. And to my understanding, I'm
- 16:54just shot through my cheeks. And I thought, you know, stitch
- 16:57here, stitch here and I'd be OK, but I still the, the pain was
- 17:01just insane. Like my tongue, the bullet went
- 17:04straight through my tongue. It was split in half like this.
- 17:07And I didn't know that. So I'm, I'm running around
- 17:09talking and it's getting harder and harder for me to be, you
- 17:13know, for you to understand what's coming out of my mouth.
- 17:16And, but that was a very humbling experience nonetheless.
- 17:20I wasn't, I feel like I wasn't doing anything wrong.
- 17:23You know, it wasn't like I, you know, deserved it or anything
- 17:26like that. To this day, I don't know why he
- 17:29did it and they did. But did he get caught?
- 17:33He got caught. Oh, yeah, they, they caught him
- 17:34about a week and a half later. The Sheriff's Department calls
- 17:39me at like 2:00 AM and it's right there on the caller ID
- 17:43sheriff's. And they let me know like they
- 17:48had had him in custody and whatnot.
- 17:50And, you know, asked me if I wanted to be present for any of
- 17:53these hearings and moving forward.
- 17:55And obviously I was pressing charges, but I didn't care to
- 17:58really be in person. There's nothing that I was going
- 18:00to change, but I was in attendance through all the Zoom
- 18:03calls and whatnot. And the process didn't go
- 18:08exactly how I wanted it to. And had I, I feel like if they
- 18:13would have listened to the victim much more, I feel like it
- 18:17could have been a better outcome.
- 18:19You know, that guy got 3 1/2 years.
- 18:21He does his time, which I thought was BS.
- 18:24It's a slap on the wrist and. It was like his intent was to
- 18:29kill you. I mean you shoot someone in the
- 18:31face and then shoot 6 more times.
- 18:33That's not an accidental fire or anything.
- 18:35Like and as they're running away.
- 18:36Point blank range. I mean, there's so many
- 18:38variables to it. And and then after the fact he
- 18:43did that time. And to my understanding, he's
- 18:46being tried for murder right now.
- 18:49He was, he wasn't even out, I want to say 30 days after, after
- 18:54serving the time for what he did to me.
- 18:56And like I said, to this day, I don't know why.
- 19:00And I have I had to accept that sometimes you won't ever get
- 19:06that closure for a lot of things.
- 19:08And that's OK. You know, the, you know,
- 19:11everyone's asked me do do you forgive him?
- 19:13And I'm like, sure. And and they think I'm crazy for
- 19:16saying that, but in reality, forgiveness isn't for me.
- 19:20Forget, I mean, forgiveness isn't for him.
- 19:22It's it's completely for me. It's so that I can get over it.
- 19:25If I can't just get past it, I'm it's going to eat me alive every
- 19:28day. And he still wins.
- 19:31And ultimately, you know, I got the fact that I'm still
- 19:35breathing is enough for me to know.
- 19:37Like you don't need to know why that you, you're, you're still
- 19:41here. You have a purpose.
- 19:42And dude, the Sky's the limit. And that right there is what
- 19:46sparked bull riding for me. Like I've been, I'm like, dude,
- 19:51you, you, you don't do anything that you love anymore anyway,
- 19:54You stop playing football. Why don't you go rodeo?
- 19:57What do you have to lose? You just got shot in the face
- 20:00and I got on one bull and that day I showed up those I had no
- 20:06bull riding gear. I I went around and borrowed a
- 20:08helmet from this guy, a glove from that guy, some spurs from
- 20:12the other guy in the corner and pretty soon I had all the gear
- 20:15to ride but. Everyone's calling me Mr. No
- 20:20Gear for forever in the in the, in that little bull riding
- 20:23community, but that's probably one of the best decisions I
- 20:27made, you know, but. You like fully invested in it,
- 20:32right? Because like you not, you don't
- 20:33just because I learned a lot from you just from talking about
- 20:36bull riding because of Drake and all that.
- 20:38Yes, Sir, You don't just bull ride like you go and help train
- 20:41bulls to bull ride, right? Oh, yeah.
- 20:43So let me go rewind to how I when I first got started bull
- 20:50riding, at least the same day I got on that bull, I, I end up
- 20:53meeting Charlie Sampson, one of the greatest bull riders to ever
- 20:56do it. And it's the equivalent of
- 20:59LeBron James walking up on you in that random gym and just
- 21:02saying, hey, buddy, are you are you good at this game or you
- 21:05just throwing the ball at the hoop?
- 21:07And that's what he basically said to me.
- 21:09He's like, are you getting on them or are you riding them?
- 21:12And I was like, I guess I'm just getting on them.
- 21:13He's like, well, you need to learn how to ride them.
- 21:15And he's like, why don't you come to Wyoming and work, work
- 21:19on my buddy's ranch. And when we're not working, I'll
- 21:21give you some lessons. That dude put me on Charlie, put
- 21:26me on probably 60 bulls in a 50 day span.
- 21:30I mean, just ran them straight under me in in Cody, WY and it
- 21:35jump started bull riding for me very fast.
- 21:38I was banged up, but it really taught me how to, you know,
- 21:42handle like the bullet from last night, that bull sitting in
- 21:44there squatting and, you know, playing mind games is what I
- 21:47call it. And he taught me how to handle
- 21:49that stuff. And that's the biggest thing is
- 21:52the mental side of it. You know, there's a lot of
- 21:54physical stuff going on, but I still feel like that whole time,
- 21:58it's still a mental game. Like you, it's all that bad
- 22:02bulls trying to trying to, you know, psych you out and you're
- 22:04trying to stay calm. But when I first had got
- 22:08started, I went and went to Wyoming with Charlie.
- 22:14And after that, it just so happened I got a job in
- 22:17California at the Flying U Rodeo Company and Charlie's rodeo
- 22:23buddy from back in the day and his was working at Flying U at
- 22:27the time. Rest in peace, Miko.
- 22:28We actually lost him this year. But one of the other great
- 22:33Cowboys that was a bull rider in the 80s and the 90s.
- 22:38And at Flying U they have 1500 bucking horses and 1500 bucking
- 22:43bulls. And they they breed everything
- 22:46from the ground up. You know, it's the board of the
- 22:48buck program and at that place, you know, you get, you have to
- 22:52work 15/20/25 bull calves. And it starts out with, you
- 22:57know, we bring them in off pasture and they have so much
- 23:00pasture. These bulls ain't seen daylight
- 23:03in, I mean, haven't seen humans six months a year.
- 23:08You know, they come in and they're snorting and they're
- 23:10mean and they're wild. And I'm sitting there like,
- 23:13dude, I, it's my third day at work.
- 23:15You want me to walk in this pen right now?
- 23:17Like, no, I'm cowboy, but I ain't that cowboy.
- 23:21But it really made me a better bull rider because I, I was
- 23:25doing everything that the stock contractors are doing when we're
- 23:28getting ready to ride. You know, I didn't see what it
- 23:31was like before that bull stood for you in the chute.
- 23:34You know, you go up to a stock contractor.
- 23:36Does that bull stand? And then you go and work behind
- 23:39the scenes and you're like, man, it takes a lot to get a bull to
- 23:42just stand for somebody. And so when I went to flying
- 23:46you, I would work, like I said, 1520 of them in a set we just
- 23:50wrote on. You might touch 80 bulls in a
- 23:53day and you're putting a dummy on them and you're getting them
- 23:56gentle the same way you start a horse.
- 23:58You know, you want to get them gentle and get them desensitized
- 24:01to a lot of stuff. Let them know you're not going
- 24:03to hurt them. And, and then we put a dummy on
- 24:06their back. It's like an 8 LB dummy and it
- 24:09has a little switch on it. And you let that bull go out
- 24:12there and buck and you know, they go out there 1-2 jumps and
- 24:16they, they might spin to the left.
- 24:17When they spin to the left, we'll pop the dummy and they
- 24:20start to get in their minds like, oh, I just when I, when I
- 24:24went out there and spun, I got that thing off my back.
- 24:27And now the next time we buck and we might let him spend 2
- 24:30times and then pop that dummy. Pretty soon the bull builds that
- 24:33confidence. You know, it's the same way you
- 24:36a horse learns from the release. So do the bulls, you know, they
- 24:40learn, OK, this is my job and they start to like it.
- 24:44You know, when you see a bull go up there and, and kick out, you
- 24:47know, they, they're loving their job.
- 24:49And, and so that definitely was a, a, a strong part of, you
- 24:54know, helping me develop in, in, in the bull riding for sure.
- 24:59Dude, that's awesome, man. Yeah, I like, I never even
- 25:01realized that. I just thought that you guys got
- 25:04bulls and you got on them and just started riding them.
- 25:07I didn't know you guys put those automatic dummies on there and
- 25:10we're actually training these bulls to buck and then to even
- 25:13go into the shoot, right? Oh yeah, and the American
- 25:17bucking bull is its own breed. Really, really.
- 25:20So you know, you got your, your Angus, your Herefords and your,
- 25:25your, your Brainis and whatever you want to call it.
- 25:28And the American buck and bowl is, is its own.
- 25:31You know, you can't make a bull buck.
- 25:34It's either in you or it's not sending with horses.
- 25:36There's horses that are bred to buck and there's saddle horses
- 25:40and a lot of them, like I said, they, they, they have to have it
- 25:45or they don't. It's just, that's just, that's
- 25:48all there is to it. It's all genetics when it comes
- 25:50down to it. We can help them a little bit,
- 25:52you know, we can teach them how to, how to buck and how to jump
- 25:55and how to turn left and right. But ultimately, it's all it's
- 25:59all up to them. Yeah, Dang, dude.
- 26:03Now we got him training horses out here.
- 26:05Yeah. We're putting Trev.
- 26:06To work. It's crazy because I really, I,
- 26:11I used to always tell my uncle I never wanted to be a horse
- 26:13trainer. I never wanted to like that to
- 26:15be my title, just because you have to be a different kind of
- 26:20person to really want to just train horses.
- 26:23Like you have to be obsessed. And I'm not going to say I'm not
- 26:26obsessed, but if I look at my Uncle Don and you say he's
- 26:31obsessed, then ask yourself, are you obsessed?
- 26:33I'm like, no, there's no way. You cannot, can't compare to
- 26:36that guy. He's getting up before the sun.
- 26:39You're that rooster over there. Now.
- 26:42He was getting up when that rooster was making that sound,
- 26:45but when the sun was just on the horizon and I mean, just didn't
- 26:50come in until 10:00 at night. And it was all horse, horse,
- 26:53horse, horse. And it was cool for me as a kid
- 26:56for the first week of the summers.
- 26:58And then I hated it. And it was like, do I want to go
- 27:00home during this day? Don't want to go home on this
- 27:02day. Then we go to a horse show in
- 27:04two weeks. And I'm like, yeah, I want to
- 27:06stay. Yeah.
- 27:07But, you know, as a kid, that's the hardest part is to figure
- 27:11out. Like, you know, you want to do
- 27:12the fun part. You want to show the horses, you
- 27:14want to go to the rodeos. But then there's all this other
- 27:17stuff that comes with it and, you know, being a horse trainer,
- 27:22you know, I don't even consider myself a horse trainer.
- 27:24You know, I definitely can train a horse.
- 27:26But my uncle was a horse trainer.
- 27:28Yeah. You know, I'm.
- 27:29I'm someone who trains horses, but I'm not a horse trainer.
- 27:32Yeah. And one day maybe I'll be a
- 27:36horse trainer. There's so much in this world
- 27:38that you got to learn. And every day when I think I
- 27:42haven't figured out, I don't. Yeah.
- 27:44And you know, it really is a love, hate and a give and take
- 27:48when it comes to. This well, you're training an
- 27:50animal that has like his brain is like the size of a walnut or
- 27:55something, right? Yeah, it's not very big.
- 27:57Yeah, and they're like freaking powerful, man.
- 27:59Yeah, so. That's awesome.
- 28:01And he was a handful when we brought him home.
- 28:03Oh man, he was about as feral as it gets.
- 28:05Feral, you know, and I was, and it's funny, Nate sends me this
- 28:09horse and he's like, what do you think of this?
- 28:11And I'm like, let's go get him. And I get there and I'm like,
- 28:14gosh, dude, you look, you look bad.
- 28:17Like he just looked way off. And this guy that's selling them
- 28:21is talking him up. And no offense to that guy, but
- 28:24he just didn't for me if I'm selling the horse on him to look
- 28:26a little better than what he given him to us for.
- 28:29But I definitely have my stipulations.
- 28:33And I was very skeptical with that horse.
- 28:35But you know, we get him, we get him home and he seemed like he
- 28:41was settling in pretty good. And I want to say like second or
- 28:43third day, he heads for that out gate.
- 28:46And I mean, just nails it, puts the puts a nice curve on it.
- 28:51We had ten of those panels, we'd have a round pen right now.
- 28:54And but after that, I mean, I think that was a great attitude
- 28:58check for him because after that it's been nothing but just, I
- 29:03mean, of course we have bad days, but it's been great.
- 29:06You know, every day, you know, we get better and better.
- 29:08We're building on it and it's the same as when you guys do
- 29:12this podcast. I'm like, dude, I'm just getting
- 29:14started doing them on my own and my uncle ain't here standing
- 29:17over my shoulder to show me how to do this every day.
- 29:19It's been Trevor with that one. And I kind of like it that way
- 29:25because I can, I can kind of manage how much or how less I'm
- 29:30going to do without overdoing it.
- 29:32And we didn't jump in and say, let's get 5 of them and try to
- 29:35try to roll through them. Like let's get one and we'll see
- 29:39how how quick we can get him going and how how smooth this
- 29:42development is. And now I'm enjoying the
- 29:45process. And now I'm starting to realize
- 29:47everything I said I wouldn't do. I end up doing it, you know,
- 29:50and. You do it well.
- 29:51I, I, I appreciate it out there. I, I mean, where he's at today
- 29:55versus where he was at when we brought him home, Yeah.
- 29:58Well, I mean at the end of the day though is like you are 9 to
- 30:025, right? You have a day job, right.
- 30:06And then after that, I mean, in a sense you're kind of doing
- 30:09what your uncle's doing, right? Like you're up.
- 30:11Early in the morning and you're out there.
- 30:13Busting your ass and you crazy come over here and you fucking
- 30:16working on horses and it's like and.
- 30:18It's sometimes till 1010 thirty, yeah, sometimes 11:00 at night,
- 30:22right? Just depending on how your day.
- 30:23Goes and it's crazy you said that about my uncle because the
- 30:26same those all those long days I had as a kid where I just could
- 30:29not figure out I'm like, dude, what could we possibly be doing
- 30:33now? It is 930 everything's fed.
- 30:36Why are we working on this fence in the dark like it never it so
- 30:40much That didn't make sense to me.
- 30:42And I was riding that red horse down the road in the dark just a
- 30:47couple days ago and I was just smiling to myself and I was
- 30:50like, it makes sense. Now I see why my uncle, you
- 30:55know, was so big on taking pride in what he was doing.
- 30:58He didn't care about where the clock was at time was
- 31:00nonexistent in his brain for the most part.
- 31:03Like he just rolled with whatever was happening in the
- 31:07moment. He stayed in the moment and was
- 31:10passionate about it. And instead of worrying about
- 31:12all I, I spent this much time here and in this much time here,
- 31:16No, just focus here and, you know, be, be locked in with
- 31:20these horses because you, you'll get a different aspect and
- 31:23different connection with him. And some of those sessions where
- 31:27I really didn't want to come out here and it was late at night
- 31:29with the best sessions I had with that horse.
- 31:32And that's what I feel like the true grind is, is when you don't
- 31:38want to do it, when you're tired and when you've been at it 1416
- 31:42hours, that's when you start winning.
- 31:44Well, some of your best rides have been with nobody watching.
- 31:47Nobody. You know what I mean?
- 31:48Yeah, it's just me, him and the dark, and we'd be out here in
- 31:52the lights and I'm like. I mean, we're watching on the
- 31:55cameras inside while we're laying in bed and you're out
- 31:57here working. 11:00 But I hate doing that.
- 32:02Benefits of not being the horse trainer.
- 32:05Sam. Hey, Sam.
- 32:05He's just doing that wrong. I don't know what he's doing
- 32:07right now. We're we're in there watching,
- 32:09going. Like I remember there was one
- 32:11night that Red just, he was just on one.
- 32:15Yeah, we were watching and like, should we go out there?
- 32:18And I was like, if he comes off, we'll go out, I said.
- 32:21But let's see what. Let's see what happens from in
- 32:24here and. It's a better hand than you,
- 32:26right? My body don't recover the way
- 32:29his does. Yeah, I'm a little older.
- 32:31I'll tell you what though, after like starting to get on bulls,
- 32:34that's another thing. I wish I would have struck the
- 32:36iron earlier because I don't recover the same.
- 32:40Like how old are you? I'm 2525 and at 18 when I play
- 32:45football, I play running back and I've never been the bigger
- 32:48guy on the field. Yeah, I used to get, I mean dirt
- 32:51roll about £300 D lineman all day long and take a ice bath on
- 32:56on a Saturday and be good by Sunday.
- 32:59Now it's like I hope by Wednesday I can shake this
- 33:02soreness. Are you are you born and raised
- 33:04in Arizona? Born and raised in the concrete
- 33:07jungle of Phoenix. Yeah.
- 33:08Oh yeah. What high school did you go to?
- 33:10I end up going to Apollo. Apollo.
- 33:12Yes, Sir, I went to Apollo and graduated in 2018 and both my
- 33:17older brothers actually went to follow.
- 33:19I'm the youngest of three boys. Are you the only boy that's
- 33:23cowboy? I am the black sheep.
- 33:26I mean, they have no idea. I mean, they, they have no
- 33:31interest in this world at all. You know, they, they all of us
- 33:34got a chance to go to my Uncle Don's aunts and, you know, see
- 33:37it. And I mean, they'd enjoy the
- 33:39weekend, but they're all right. It stinks.
- 33:41I got poop on my boots or whatever.
- 33:44And they just, you know, whatever it was, they were over
- 33:46it. They didn't really take the
- 33:47interests like that. And you know, my dad grew up in
- 33:50Arkansas. My dad had 99 brothers and three
- 33:53sisters. And, you know, I always tell
- 33:56people I got old blood because my dad's parents were
- 34:00sharecroppers and my dad's grandmother was released out of
- 34:03slavery. Yeah.
- 34:04So I'm not very far out of very, very old school tradition.
- 34:07Yeah, from the South. Huh.
- 34:09Yes, Sir. The dirt.
- 34:09The Deep. South, Yeah, yeah.
- 34:11Deep South. And I think that's a big part of
- 34:16who I am. You know, in high school they
- 34:17called me Uncle Trav. They said like, dude, you're
- 34:20just like someone's uncle. You're always like trying to
- 34:22get. That old soul in you like?
- 34:24Grandpa Drake, but. Yeah.
- 34:26Oh, literally. Yeah, but I wouldn't change it
- 34:32for nothing, you know, I think I have a very unique upbringing
- 34:35and I wish every, every kid got an opportunity to see everything
- 34:41I got to see, you know? Is your is your dad and your
- 34:44uncle? What's his name?
- 34:45My Uncle Don. My Uncle Don is my dad's older
- 34:47brother, OK? Yes, Sir.
- 34:48All right. So did your dad ever have any
- 34:51interests in the Western? Lifestyle my dad said, you know,
- 34:53once my dad turned 18, I mean once my dad was grown, I should
- 34:57say his his little brother, my Uncle Jesse was in the NFL and
- 35:03my doubt they were buddies. They were tight.
- 35:05And so when he got Uncle Jesse got drafted, my dad was with him
- 35:08just about every team he went to that was just like his right
- 35:11hand man. And when the Saint Louis
- 35:14Cardinals moved to Arizona, my Uncle Jesse was on that team.
- 35:17And Uncle Jesse ended up retiring with the Arizona
- 35:21Cardinals once they had converted.
- 35:23And my dad said out at all the states, my uncle was was let me
- 35:30rewind. He was drafted by the Packers
- 35:33and went to the Vikings and then the Lions and then the
- 35:36Cardinals. And after nine seasons, he
- 35:40retired here in Arizona. And my dad was like, what all
- 35:43the places we've been, I think I like Arizona the best.
- 35:46And that's when he started his family here.
- 35:49And that's obviously how I got here.
- 35:52Yeah. All of my family's in the South
- 35:54and my mom's from Michigan. Yeah.
- 35:56And. And so I got family just about
- 35:59everywhere. When my grandfather on my dad's
- 36:02side passed away in the not even.
- 36:07I want to say, I want to say they told me the year 2000, he
- 36:11had 72 grandkids. Damn.
- 36:14Holy. So shoot, we.
- 36:15I got family. I probably will never.
- 36:18I never even know he had 13 kids.
- 36:22I mean I would hate to be your ancestry account man.
- 36:25Yeah, right. Yeah, right.
- 36:26They're going. To be cancelled work thing.
- 36:28Thing, thing, thing, thing. Yeah.
- 36:30And I mean, like, I was trying to do the math and I'm like,
- 36:33well, he had 13 of them. You know, if you average 3 to 4
- 36:36apiece and then they're kids. Yeah, I guess you're up there
- 36:40pretty quick. Oh, yeah.
- 36:41But I think it's really unique. You know, I run in a family all
- 36:45the time when I go down South and they're like, what's your
- 36:48last name on it? Just in town?
- 36:49And I'm like, Clark. Oh, yeah, you do look like
- 36:52Clark. You got those Clark eyebrows and
- 36:54you got the stature. And it just, you know, I know I
- 36:57knew this person and your grandfather.
- 36:59And it makes me, it always reminds you like somebody's
- 37:03always watching, you know, And and that's what, you know, true
- 37:08character is. And that's what I try to focus
- 37:10on is, you know, having, you know, doing the right thing when
- 37:14no ones watching. You know, for a while I didn't
- 37:16even know you guys had that camera over there, but I was
- 37:19like, you know what, like right on.
- 37:20Like it didn't bother me, but someones always watching.
- 37:24And I try to lead by example as much as I can because I, you
- 37:30know, there's even Drake, you know, there's so many people
- 37:33that you don't even realize you can have an influence on.
- 37:36Oh yeah, Oh yeah. Just by, you know, what you're
- 37:39saying, what you're doing. And so you always want to, you
- 37:42know, put your best foot forward on that note.
- 37:44I'll tell you what, man, after Drake met you, I'd be like, all
- 37:49right, who do you want in the shoot with you?
- 37:50Do you want Trevor or you want me?
- 37:51He goes. Trevor.
- 37:54I know I got I. Don't blame you.
- 37:55I don't blame you. I think I was in there the first
- 37:57couple and then I was like, well go sit in the Bleacher.
- 38:01Trev's got him. Yeah, yeah, I mean, he Drake
- 38:05gets in the chute like a season vet, you know, I and I'm excited
- 38:09to see him, you know, decide what he wants to do eventually,
- 38:14because at that age, I remember when I was his age.
- 38:18And it's hard to, you know, especially when you when you see
- 38:23a kid who woke up and sat on the bull come out of the womb just,
- 38:28you know, cowboy, cowboy, cowboy, cowboy.
- 38:30And then he's got all these different interests in this
- 38:33sparked, you know, the interest for him.
- 38:35You know, when he's old enough to feel pain and understand what
- 38:38you know, could go wrong, you know, it plays a part in his
- 38:42mind. So, you know, the fact he's
- 38:44going through that battle now, if he can just stay in it,
- 38:47Drake, then the Sky's the limit for him, you know?
- 38:50If you ask him, he's already got brain damage from it.
- 38:53Yeah, yeah. He doesn't remember to flush the
- 38:55toilet because he rides bulls. He literally said.
- 38:58That yeah, man, CT man, it's just real, you know?
- 39:01Bullshit. Literally.
- 39:04Yeah, right. No, I think that's cool like
- 39:07that you like brought that up because I, I think that, you
- 39:10know, no knock on people that grew up in that lifestyle.
- 39:13But for somebody like you, it's like, I'm sure that you like, I
- 39:20appreciate it probably a little bit more because you know what
- 39:23it's like to not have that. Yeah.
- 39:26And you know what it's like to have that right.
- 39:27You know what I'm? Saying I got a glimpse in both
- 39:29of it, and I haven't had it full-fledged where I'm like, all
- 39:32right, I'll walk outside. This is my house.
- 39:34And I got horses and bulls. Yeah.
- 39:36But at the same time, I still am blessed.
- 39:40I'm still, you know, an anomaly. You know a lot of guys, even
- 39:45though I got a a brief, you know, three months at a time.
- 39:49Like I said, there's a lot of people who never get to
- 39:51experience. With exactly.
- 39:52And even my my dad was a big part of that because my dad
- 39:56worked for American Airlines my whole life.
- 39:58I got to go everywhere I wanted. If I want to go to Alabama and
- 40:01see my uncle for a weekend, Friday when I got out of school.
- 40:05One of the airport, yeah, yeah, just fly out and and be back by
- 40:08Sunday and go to school on Monday and I'd be like, Oh yeah,
- 40:11I was in Arkansas yesterday. The kids look at me like, yeah,
- 40:14bullshit, yeah, showing them videos and pictures and like how
- 40:18I'm like, dude, these these airplanes, yeah, it only takes 3
- 40:22hours dude. Like they're like, dude, how
- 40:24much does that cost? I'm like, I fly for free there.
- 40:27That was my biggest flex. Yeah, you know who I am?
- 40:29I'm Trevor, Motherfucker. Let's take a quick break.
- 40:34We'll go to do commercial and then we'll come right back, OK.

- 42:31That's CALLF cs.com and don't forget to mention Rad Cast for a
- 42:36special offer. So you got him over there
- 42:38spinning in circles now? Yeah, I like that sometimes.
- 42:42You know, I depending on how soft, how softer, you know,
- 42:49stiff there, you know, do something like tie their head to
- 42:52one side and just make them loosen up, you know, soften to
- 42:57that side. And I kind of let them figure it
- 43:00out on their own. You know, I feel like balance is
- 43:04huge, especially with those Colts.
- 43:05You know, you're, you're really teaching them how to run, you
- 43:09know, correctly, especially if you're going to be, you're going
- 43:11to be on their back, you're going to put, you know, if
- 43:13you're going to be dragging cows or something with them, you want
- 43:16the orders to be balanced and travel, you know, symmetrically.
- 43:21And part of that is, you know this, this helps its coordinates
- 43:25in a sense. So like, you know, your big
- 43:30influence is your uncle getting you into this whole cowboy
- 43:34stuff, right? I'm sure you saw a bunch of
- 43:39black Cowboys coming out here. You know, there's not a whole
- 43:43lot of black bull riders or black Cowboys.
- 43:45It was 2 weeks ago. Yeah.
- 43:47So yeah. Oh yeah.
- 43:49Yeah. The black rodeo.
- 43:50Yeah, yeah, Actually, when even even when I got started, my
- 43:54uncle, he was the only black cowboy I really knew.
- 43:57I mean him and his son and my my cousins that were that are
- 44:00Cowboys. But, you know, especially in the
- 44:03realm that he was in, there isn't much of us really, you
- 44:07know, training horses in the cow horse deal.
- 44:10It's it's just not a lot of us. And I don't ever try to say, oh,
- 44:16that they didn't they, they, they didn't pick me because I
- 44:18was black. You know, that's it's never been
- 44:20a variable for Trevor at least. But it's all about, you know,
- 44:27how you carry yourself in. You know, my uncle was very much
- 44:31respected in this world and I, he really lit that for me to,
- 44:35you know, don't ever try to, you know, play the poor me card
- 44:39because ultimately you, you, you carry yourself correctly.
- 44:44If it's, if it's supposed to happen, it's going to happen.
- 44:46Yeah. And and they'll know.
- 44:48So do you feel like, you know, being in this culture, being in
- 44:50this lifestyle, like you have been embraced and like, you know
- 44:54every like you, you don't even bat an eye on it. 1000%, you
- 44:58know, and you know, I, I haven't talked about it yet since we've
- 45:03been talking today, but out of nowhere, dude, I got a random DM
- 45:09on Instagram one day and it was, it was about, hey, you want to
- 45:14be on TV? I was just going to ask about
- 45:16that. Yeah.
- 45:18And I thought it was a scam. And I'm like, then why do they
- 45:21want me to be on TV? Yeah.
- 45:23And they're like, we're we're going to, we got this first.
- 45:26They, they sold it to me as a, a Western.
- 45:30A western. Sorry, no, you're good.
- 45:35A Western docu series, man, I'm like, heck yeah, let's do it.
- 45:39And they seen this application and I'm like, all right, I'm not
- 45:42filling this out. Just didn't feel right at that
- 45:44point. They wanted too much
- 45:46information. And yeah, they gave me a call
- 45:48and they're like, dude, we're shooting a show and we.
- 45:53We'd love to have you on it. You know, we worked with Sony
- 45:56Entertainment and we want to film this for CW Network and had
- 46:02the opportunity to go to Montana for six weeks and film this
- 46:06show. And basically you're on a dude
- 46:08ranch and you're the workers. The storyline was, you know,
- 46:12we're we're the guys that come in and, and they, they had lost
- 46:16a lot of workers and they were trying to fill some gaps.
- 46:18And so they brought us on as four of us, and we joined the
- 46:22existing crew and helped them finish the season out on that
- 46:27ranch. And so they already had the
- 46:30season going. As far as the dude ranching
- 46:33season, yeah, yes, Sir. And yeah, that was that was some
- 46:38of the most fun I had in my life.
- 46:39You know, I literally we had three meals a day.
- 46:44I was cooked by a five star chef.
- 46:46And I mean, just some of the most fun ever.
- 46:49You know, TV is, is, is hard. It really is like the stuff that
- 46:54they have you do and the way they do the interviews, you
- 46:56know, it's hard and you got to have a lot of patience and it
- 47:01it's exhausting. It really was we.
- 47:03So that show is called Wranglers, The Wranglers.
- 47:05The Wranglers, right? Yeah.
- 47:07And yeah, that's so like, I mean, how do they even find you?
- 47:13It was I so I'm I'm telling this lady it was the account that DM
- 47:18me. It says Kara under score casting
- 47:22no profile picture like 900 followers.
- 47:24I'm like, this has to be a spam account like it does not make
- 47:27sense. And it was very vanilla on the
- 47:31message. It wasn't nothing crazy and
- 47:33there was no real credentials that made me say oh man, this is
- 47:38it. And but they were.
- 47:43She was so prompt about everything that when I sent my
- 47:47phone number, she called me and and gave me the breakdown so
- 47:50fast. I'm literally in the airport in
- 47:52Dallas, Fort Worth, headed to Flint, MI for a rodeo.
- 47:55And this lady's DM me and I'm like kind of not taking it
- 48:00serious until my phone ring 10 minutes before I'm out to board
- 48:04this plane. And she like gives me this
- 48:05spill. But she was very like, straight
- 48:08to the point. Like, look, do you want to do
- 48:09this or not? This is what we got going.
- 48:11I think it's a great opportunity for you.
- 48:13I saw your profile. She's like, is this like a
- 48:15facade or like you a real cowboy?
- 48:17And I'm like, no, it's legit. Like this is not just like for
- 48:22fun. I'll come.
- 48:22Ride a bull if. You want?
- 48:24Yeah, like, and I think, I think between the the, you know,
- 48:32taking a picture here and taking a picture there, I never was
- 48:34really big on that. And I never thought it could
- 48:36even turn into something, right. You know, I just was doing it,
- 48:40you know, just being social on social media and responding to
- 48:46that message instead of just deleting it, thinking that it
- 48:49was spam was the best thing I ever did.
- 48:52I made I made a few real good buddies.
- 48:55I think that'll be lifers. And I got to network with people
- 49:00even in the production team and it was just a great experience
- 49:04overall. You know, I spent a lot of time
- 49:06in the Big Sky area, but to be in Montana every day, like right
- 49:10now, I guarantee in Hopson it is sub 50° and in the middle of the
- 49:15day and it was just great. It was like a vacation.
- 49:20I'm getting paid to talk about what I love.
- 49:25And they're going to film you doing what you love and you're
- 49:27going to do it. They're going to do it for free.
- 49:29They're going to house you for free.
- 49:30They're going to feed you good for free.
- 49:32And we're going to give you something on top of it.
- 49:34I didn't care what the show did. I was just, I was just having
- 49:37fun. Yeah.
- 49:38Like, dude, I just life once in a lifetime experience.
- 49:41If I don't ever get another TV deal, I don't care if I get
- 49:45another TV, that'd be great. But at the same time, it was
- 49:49really fun. You know, there's some that were
- 49:51on the show that might say that, might say something different,
- 49:54but I had a ball, yeah. Yeah, you could tell you had fun
- 49:57in. It yeah, that's it, you know,
- 49:59like, obviously, you know, they were, you know, just being
- 50:02themselves as well. But I feel like some, at some
- 50:06point it was just too serious. Like, yeah, there's no way you
- 50:09were this upset right now. Look where we're at.
- 50:12So like watching because you know, my daughter Hayden, she
- 50:17was all obsessed about it, right?
- 50:19So like we would like watch it, but how much from the episodes
- 50:25to reality was there? Because I mean, it's Hollywood,
- 50:28right? They they have to entertain us
- 50:31somehow, you know? There was a lot of stuff that
- 50:34was cut out or. I would say, I was going to say
- 50:36everything that was there was real.
- 50:38There was a lot of cutouts. You know, there's a lot of stuff
- 50:41that I thought was going to be there.
- 50:42And I was like, oh wow, they didn't have that part.
- 50:44They didn't have that part, but there was nothing in there that
- 50:47was fake either. They didn't miss your burp.
- 50:49No, Yeah, yeah, they, they caught me slipping and that was
- 50:53that was the real estate part of it.
- 50:56There's a lot of moments where they're filming and they are
- 50:58literally just filming. They, they didn't tell us we're
- 51:01going to go do this, we're going to do that.
- 51:02No, it was just the cameras are up and they're going and.
- 51:05Early on. Literally, yeah, they have
- 51:09definitely got a raw reaction out of me when I was watching in
- 51:11the beginning. I want to say it's the first or
- 51:13second episode. I'm like getting on the track
- 51:16there. I sit down right after lunch and
- 51:18I cracked this Coca-Cola and I'm slamming it, and I take this
- 51:22big, the biggest belts. I was like, oh man, I don't
- 51:25remember doing that. I was dying.
- 51:27That's funny, because that's just you being you.
- 51:29Yeah, and but. And that's not the only dude
- 51:34ranch that you've worked. You worked at the one in Tucson,
- 51:36right? Yeah, so.
- 51:37Cool experience there. So when I the same owners of a
- 51:41Circle Bar ranch where we filmed the TV show, they own, I want to
- 51:45say 6 dude ranches in America and they're top of the line.
- 51:50You know, I when I first started dude ranching, when I went with
- 51:53Charlie bull riding, his buddy owns Rimrock Ranch in Wyoming.
- 51:58And that's the job that I worked when Charlie was giving me bull
- 52:01riding lessons. But true ranch collection is
- 52:07what these six ranches are all named under.
- 52:12And they own White Stallion in Tucson.
- 52:15And if I'm not mistaken, it's the biggest, biggest dude ranch
- 52:19in the nation. And.
- 52:21Is White Stallion. Yes, Sir.
- 52:23And when I got there, they're truly the biggest and probably
- 52:27the best, the most efficient. And I mean it's it's the full
- 52:30package. You can go shooting, no rock
- 52:32climbing, obviously horseback riding.
- 52:35They got the massage. It's like a resort and you get a
- 52:38little bit of everything. And that place runs like a well
- 52:42oiled machine. And the way I got got that gig
- 52:45was our last couple days of filming in Montana.
- 52:49The owner, Russell True, he had asked me to drive a vehicle back
- 52:55down from that ranch to Arizona. And once I got back, I was just
- 53:01talking to him and kind of just, you know, saying our goodbyes.
- 53:04And I said, you know, if you ever need any help down there,
- 53:07I'd love to come to the ranch. Like a week later, they reached
- 53:10out and they're like, hey, you know, we do have a spot if you
- 53:13want to come work the ranch. And I wasn't doing anything.
- 53:15I was like, yeah, I might as well come.
- 53:17And then I get in a car accident like a day later in a car
- 53:21accident. And I had to have knee surgery
- 53:24on my patellar tendon. And that set me back about a
- 53:27month. But once I got down the white
- 53:31stallion, it was same deal, you know, but the difference was the
- 53:36volume. I've never, ever took out four
- 53:40or five rides in a day. And these rides are no, no,
- 53:44nothing less than an hour saddle time.
- 53:48Oh, yeah, 8 hours. You get 8 hours saddle time
- 53:51every day. But I feel like White Stallion
- 53:55provides a lot of opportunities for people.
- 53:58White Stallion has a volunteer program where they got 6.
- 54:01It can house 66 volunteers at a time.
- 54:04You could call them today and say, I want to volunteer in two
- 54:07weeks, for two weeks. And if they accept it, you come
- 54:10down there, they feed you 3 meals a day, you get to go on
- 54:12all the rides and it's all for free.
- 54:15You're volunteering. And a lot of these volunteers
- 54:17end up transitioning into temporaries, into full time
- 54:21employees. And they got on their first
- 54:25horse, that white stallion, and now they're right in the mix,
- 54:28you know, working the deal, making money doing it.
- 54:30And I think it's a great, it's great.
- 54:32You know, my story, his story, however you got into it, do it.
- 54:36And I think it's, I think it's unique regardless, take whatever
- 54:40opportunity you're presented 1000%.
- 54:42You never know where it's going to go.
- 54:44So a dude ranch? Right.
- 54:47Yeah. What is a dude ranch?
- 54:49So a dude ranch? Is if you're talking to a
- 54:54cowboy. Dude ranch is bullshit.
- 54:58It really is. You are playing.
- 54:59Cowboy all day long, but it's dude ranch is a western guest
- 55:05experience. You know you were you were so
- 55:07people are coming from all over the world Germany England.
- 55:10I mean, I met people from all over and they want to see
- 55:15Cowboys. They want to see the Wild West.
- 55:18You know, there's not dude ranch, there's no dude ranch on
- 55:20the East Coast. It's, I mean, sure there are,
- 55:22but Wild West and, and dude ranching is when you, when you
- 55:29think of Cowboys, it's you think of the West and, and that's
- 55:32where some of the most beautiful dude ranches are.
- 55:35You got to have the views. But it's, it's a, it's, it's a
- 55:39vacation and, and a resort where people get to experience the day
- 55:45in the life of a cowboy. Yeah, yeah.
- 55:47And I think it's, I think it's awesome.
- 55:49You know, I, I, I, I do too, man.
- 55:51I think like. To try it 'cause I mean, what if
- 55:56they could inspire a young kid to want to be in this lifestyle,
- 56:01right? I mean, at the end of the day,
- 56:03at the end of the day, dude, there's.
- 56:04Way less. Cowboys now then there was
- 56:08right. Cowboys are dying.
- 56:10Breed. Yeah, we are real.
- 56:11Cowboys are dying breed. Yeah, real Cowboys are dying
- 56:14breed right now in today's world, there is this.
- 56:19It's crazy. It honestly took off and I I
- 56:22never saw the Western life being this big and mainstream ever.
- 56:27And you know, with that Cowboy Carter.
- 56:33Album and and Morgan. Wallins always doing his things.
- 56:36You got Zach Top, you got Colt Mcmurdy and it's just taken it's
- 56:40taken the world and it's got it got it in the chokehold right
- 56:43now. And and so it it really is hard
- 56:47to, you know, honestly, it shouldn't be hard to decipher
- 56:50the two, you know, real cowboy and and the guys that are just
- 56:54playing cowboy and I don't have no any, any, any, any real
- 56:58cowboy that's offended by it. Yeah, You know, you maybe check
- 57:02on yourself and what you got going because I think if if I
- 57:06made that guy go buy a pair of boots.
- 57:08I inspired him. Yeah.
- 57:09He thinks it's cool. Why wouldn't you don't hate on
- 57:12the guy be like heck yeah, man, right on.
- 57:15You got a pair of boots. It's almost like NBA players.
- 57:18Dogging on people at the park just playing basketball, right?
- 57:22Like, yeah, they're not, they're not professionals.
- 57:24But. Dude, they love the sport.
- 57:26They that's, that's what they love to do.
- 57:28And like, that's what we should do is, you know, embrace the
- 57:31people that are interested in this, like lifestyle and, you
- 57:35know, wanting to learn or, you know, wanting to be involved in
- 57:38it. Whether they do volunteer or
- 57:40even they just go to like, rodeos, you know, like support,
- 57:43support the. Yeah, yeah, just like.
- 57:45When when like Drake. Started his little calf riding
- 57:49right like over at Dillon's. There wasn't a whole lot of
- 57:51people, right. Right.
- 57:53But then like it, it started to more and more and more.
- 57:57And then like, and then there's like the whole stands is filled
- 58:00with people, you know, standing room only.
- 58:02Yeah. And like it makes me proud.
- 58:04To see my son out there. Riding, you know, throwing his
- 58:06hands up and everybody's like, yeah, you know, it's like,
- 58:09that's awesome, man. It it it lights, it lights a
- 58:12different. Fighting.
- 58:13I was telling Nate last night and I was like, this is a drug,
- 58:17Bull ride is a drug. Forget the bull.
- 58:20Imagine, OK, you rode the bull and then you hear all that.
- 58:23You see all these people, they don't even know you, but they
- 58:26are electric. And to them it is the craziest
- 58:28thing in the world that you just rode this bull.
- 58:30These are people coming out of their offices, Scottsdale,
- 58:33somewhere. They don't, they have no idea
- 58:35what's going on and they just know that you just rode that
- 58:37bull and they're just as excited as you are.
- 58:40And I love it, you know, even when it comes to dude ranching,
- 58:45all of it. Any anytime someone's interested
- 58:47and is genuinely asking about it, I don't if I have the time
- 58:50to talk about it, I'll talk about it because you don't know
- 58:53who you can inspire. You don't know what interaction
- 58:55or where it's going to go. But if you're passionate about
- 58:58it, it shouldn't bother you to talk about it.
- 59:00Plant those seeds. That's it.
- 59:02Plant the seed and I'm not planting a seed expecting
- 59:04something big tree to grow out of it.
- 59:06I'm just planting seeds because I'm Johnny Appleseed, you know,
- 59:09like I'm just doing what I do and that's just interacting.
- 59:13And I don't know. I feel like leaving your mark is
- 59:15ultimately what it what, what it's about, you know?
- 59:19And you can use that with anything.
- 59:21You know, I train a horse, if I'm selling a horse, I want that
- 59:24horse to, if I put my name on it, you better that horse better
- 59:27be ready to leave because I'm not putting my name on something
- 59:30that's going to be bad. And and so when I leave my mark
- 59:33on that horse, I want it to be a good one.
- 59:36You know, when I leave my mark on people, I want it to be a
- 59:38good one. And yeah, man.
- 59:42But ultimately this whole cowboy and thing it, it's went a lot
- 59:47farther than I thought I'd ever go into it.
- 59:49And I'm just thankful for it every other day, you know, going
- 59:53through the motions with it, you also, you also help people.
- 59:56Train, yes, like doing barrel racing and riding more so I'm I
- 1:00:02feel like I just try to help people develop.
- 1:00:04Their riding, Yeah. And, and, you know, being in
- 1:00:08control and being In Sync with their horse, you know, and it
- 1:00:12doesn't matter what it is. It could be barrel racing, pole
- 1:00:15bending, you know, calf roping, breakaway team roping, or just
- 1:00:20regular pleasure riding. You know, I just try to teach
- 1:00:23people how to be, you know, a horseman on the basic.
- 1:00:28Level if you can. Understand how to communicate
- 1:00:31with these guys and respect these guys and get along with
- 1:00:34them. The rest you can develop.
- 1:00:37But if you try to jump past that part, if you don't even
- 1:00:39understand the communication aspect, we're we're never going
- 1:00:42to win. Yeah, yeah, that's awesome, man.
- 1:00:45I've definitely. Learned a ton since you started
- 1:00:47coming out here. You.
- 1:00:48Know I we've got Sedona and Sedona's definitely a
- 1:00:52performance horse. Like she's she's full of piss
- 1:00:54and vinegar all the time. Well, when I bought her they
- 1:00:57told us, oh, she's she's retired right?
- 1:00:59Like she's ready to just be a trail horse.
- 1:01:01And then I get on her and I was like, man, this is too much.
- 1:01:04And then, you know, Trevor starts to teach me.
- 1:01:06He's like, she feels you. She she knows how you're feeling
- 1:01:09about this. She feels your anxiety, like you
- 1:01:12got to fix you before you can fix this.
- 1:01:14And when I give lessons that when I stand, I tell.
- 1:01:16People horse can feel your heartbeat 4 feet away.
- 1:01:20You know they, they know what you're thinking or what you're
- 1:01:22what you're feeling before you even touch.
- 1:01:24Yeah, yeah. But it's it's wild just to see
- 1:01:28like. What you've done with Sam and
- 1:01:29with Julia, you know what I mean?
- 1:01:31The funny thing is, is he says he's not a trainer, right?
- 1:01:34And he'll, he'll, he'll, he'll try to play koi and all that.
- 1:01:37Here's the reality. Sam's never ridden.
- 1:01:41Competitively. She's been riding horses for all
- 1:01:44of two years, and you worked with her for two months?
- 1:01:48Yeah, and then his two proteges. Go out.
- 1:01:52In place in every event that they wrote in their first
- 1:01:55gymkhana out Julia placed and Sam placed in every single
- 1:01:59event. Yeah, and I mean, you know, like
- 1:02:02I say. I'm, I'm I still stand by that
- 1:02:04statement. I know you will and that's OK,
- 1:02:07but. That just means you're.
- 1:02:10Like willing to grow right? Like you're.
- 1:02:11Just leaving room all the way. To grow, you have to you know I
- 1:02:15am nowhere. Look, the minute you think
- 1:02:17you've got it figured out in this, in this world, horse
- 1:02:19world, you're going to lose. Yeah, that's my uncle was 65 and
- 1:02:2460s in his 60s and sitting there telling me like, dude, like I
- 1:02:29learned something new every day. So you see all those tapes he
- 1:02:32had VCHVCR tapes like like in in this.
- 1:02:39Is past 20. 15/20/16 And I mean loaded like in his, in this, in
- 1:02:44this, what do you call those old school deals in the in the
- 1:02:47living rooms, VCRS, No, no entertainment centers.
- 1:02:51Yeah, yeah. It's entertainment.
- 1:02:53Centers full of them and. They're all training videos.
- 1:02:55Oh, VHS. Handwritten on the label.
- 1:02:57Handwritten. And he's like, go, go in there
- 1:02:59and pull out that. Out Dunning tape and put it in
- 1:03:02there for me and sit here. I want to show you something.
- 1:03:04You gotta rewind it first right? Ran it all the way back.
- 1:03:07And then get it. Going.
- 1:03:08And I I'm still just scratching my head like man in the sky is
- 1:03:12is full of it. But no, hey uncle, we can watch
- 1:03:15this shit on YouTube now when you.
- 1:03:17Know pull it up on YouTube? When was the last time?
- 1:03:20You've been out there so. Unfortunately, I lost my uncle.
- 1:03:23A couple years ago he was battling cancer and it hit us
- 1:03:28out of nowhere. He had he had got got diagnosed
- 1:03:31with cancer and he ended up living for three years after
- 1:03:34that and then he passed away. So rest in peace, Don Clark.
- 1:03:39But that ranch is it's it's done.
- 1:03:44It's done now. You know, they they shut it
- 1:03:46down. And I mean, I'm sure there's one
- 1:03:47or two horses up there now, but it's nowhere near the the
- 1:03:51monster that it was when when he was there.
- 1:03:53Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:03:54But did he have kids that were? Working there.
- 1:03:56Oh yeah. So my my my cousin Danielle.
- 1:03:59His older daughter she lives in Texas now and she started there
- 1:04:06and then his his son Tyler Tyler he's that's it.
- 1:04:10That's it horse training SOB like I showed, I've shown native
- 1:04:14few videos of him, but yeah, his those are his two olders and and
- 1:04:20they're still involved in every single.
- 1:04:22Day they yeah, they eat, sleep and.
- 1:04:24Breathe it just like he did. Yeah.
- 1:04:26And Danielle actually has a son. We call him June Bug, but his
- 1:04:30name is Harold Williams. That kid can rope like a grown
- 1:04:33man. He's 12.
- 1:04:35I think he just turned 13, actually.
- 1:04:37But remember that name in the next 5-6 years, I guarantee.
- 1:04:42What is it? Harold Williams?
- 1:04:44Harold Williams. And I guarantee.
- 1:04:46He'll be on his way in Fri. Mean kid can rope.
- 1:04:50He's had a rope in his hand since he could say rope.
- 1:04:53And I mean, he's a bad dude. Yeah.
- 1:04:56And you know, as far as you know, you're asking me about,
- 1:05:00you know, his kids and whatnot. I, I'd love to one day get, get
- 1:05:04something going with his son Tyler.
- 1:05:06Even, you know, we're in two different states, but if we can
- 1:05:09have an Arizona, Texas connection, what we're doing
- 1:05:11something with horses, you know, that would be phenomenal because
- 1:05:15I mean, this is the capital we're going to bring.
- 1:05:17The capital of a of a roping home.
- 1:05:19Yes Sir. Oh yeah, 1000% here in about.
- 1:05:22A month, it's going to be loaded.
- 1:05:24Yeah, the population goes up 3040%.
- 1:05:27Well, and that's The funny thing is everybody thinks that
- 1:05:29Whitman's just. This little podunk town, right?
- 1:05:31Oh yeah, yeah. During the roping season,
- 1:05:33there's probably more millionaires here than
- 1:05:35Scottsdale. More money, right?
- 1:05:36Right. No, no, seriously.
- 1:05:38There's. There's $1,000,000 rolling down
- 1:05:40the road. Yeah, You know, that's what
- 1:05:41they're driving out of there with when you add it all up,
- 1:05:44right? Big old living quarters, these
- 1:05:464050 thousand dollar horses, this $80,000 truck, people don't
- 1:05:50realize how much goes into it and that's why I had to figure
- 1:05:54out how I can be a part of it without going broke.
- 1:05:57I mean, you know, in today's world, everyone's, you know,
- 1:06:01trying to figure it out, but when I when I doping the bull
- 1:06:08right and I was like, man, I eliminate all that.
- 1:06:10I don't have to worry about oil change or lame horse scrap that
- 1:06:13gear bag and as long as my legs work will be all right.
- 1:06:16Is this is a red your first horse that you've trained?
- 1:06:19From start from by myself not having anyones help.
- 1:06:23Yes, I've, I've started a lot of horses, but it was always, you
- 1:06:27know, I'm going to start them, hand them over to this guy.
- 1:06:30He's going to finish them. You know, I'm, I'm helping this
- 1:06:33guy out for the day. But this horse is green.
- 1:06:35But this is the first one that I picked out.
- 1:06:38You know, I said he's got a good mind on them and we can develop
- 1:06:42that horse. He's got good potential.
- 1:06:44Yeah, definitely. And, you know, I kind of
- 1:06:46surprised myself in this timeline too.
- 1:06:49You know, I know I had a good, you know, I had a trainer's
- 1:06:52touch, but to see it completely, like solely on me is definitely,
- 1:07:01definitely confirming. To me, you know it.
- 1:07:06Helps me understand that I build your confidence right?
- 1:07:081000% man, you know I'm. Skeptical about a lot of things.
- 1:07:11I'm like, man, I'm finally, heck yeah, I do know what I'm doing a
- 1:07:14little bit. Yeah, I can get, I can, I can
- 1:07:16make something happen and and like all you needed, all you
- 1:07:21needed was just an. Opportunity, that's it.
- 1:07:24And they gave me that opportunity.
- 1:07:26I mean, and honestly, Nate is the reason why I'm doing it.
- 1:07:30I wasn't even thinking about training horses.
- 1:07:32And Nate was like, dude, why don't we get one going?
- 1:07:35What are you? What are you doing?
- 1:07:36You're good at it. We can make money off of this.
- 1:07:38What are you doing? Yeah.
- 1:07:39I was like, girl, I guess I'm just not doing it.
- 1:07:42And he's like, well, let's get it going.
- 1:07:44Yeah. You know, 3-4 months later, here
- 1:07:47we are. You know, getting.
- 1:07:49Real close to listing this one and seeing what kind of profit
- 1:07:54we can make off this investment. And it's going to be rough to
- 1:07:57see him go, you know. But like I always say, if you
- 1:08:01didn't, if you got a horse that you wanted sold, he must not
- 1:08:05have been a good one. You know, if you wanted a lot of
- 1:08:08tears shed when he goes. Yeah, for sure.
- 1:08:10I think from all of us. Yeah, I definitely said a couple
- 1:08:13like he's a. Little buddy and when we Yeah,
- 1:08:15and he. Really is the little buddy
- 1:08:16around here. I mean it to the point where
- 1:08:18Nini are like my 10 year old niece literally hand leads him
- 1:08:23all the way to his. Yeah, yeah, my little to you
- 1:08:26right, Yeah. She'll come over to him and I
- 1:08:28mean, instantly beelines to. We almost have to guide her away
- 1:08:33from him and try to do it without her throwing a fit.
- 1:08:36That's good. But he completely flips the
- 1:08:38switch when she's around the moment she drags his feet.
- 1:08:41Yeah, I mean. What was?
- 1:08:43It what was it about Trevor where you're like?
- 1:08:46All right, we got to do this, dude.
- 1:08:48We just got to talking one day. And you?
- 1:08:50Know Trev's been through a lot. Yeah.
- 1:08:54And he and I got to talking and it was just one of the you and I
- 1:08:57have talked about it a lot too. Is it I just I like to do
- 1:09:01whatever I can to help people. And when you and I got to
- 1:09:04talking about like where you come from and what you've done.
- 1:09:07And you know, I asked you why you don't train your own horses
- 1:09:10and you kept saying he's like, you're like, every time I get
- 1:09:12something going, I get screwed. And I'm like, here's a safe
- 1:09:17space for you to if, if you want to do this, Sam and I have the
- 1:09:22ability to help you. Get something.
- 1:09:23Started. We want to do this right, but I
- 1:09:27don't. Dude, I'm 46.
- 1:09:29I'm not breaking horses anything.
- 1:09:30Yeah, my days are getting bucked.
- 1:09:33Off, you know. Or done.
- 1:09:36But it was something that you like, you could see your eyes
- 1:09:39light up when we talked about it, you got excited and I was
- 1:09:41like, all right, cool, let's start looking for horses.
- 1:09:43Like let's do this. And I just saw, I, I saw the
- 1:09:48opportunity, you know, to, to work together.
- 1:09:52Yeah. To do something and, and have
- 1:09:53some fun with it. I mean, it's been a lot of fun.
- 1:09:55It's been fun. You know I that's.
- 1:09:57That's the part that I'm as long as it I, my Uncle Don told me
- 1:10:04if. You're not having fun with it.
- 1:10:05Lose it, Yeah. And the minute I'm done having
- 1:10:09fun with it, I'll be done with it.
- 1:10:10Yeah, he said. All the time.
- 1:10:13And I was like, that's what it's about.
- 1:10:15And that's where I was at with the bull riding.
- 1:10:17It's like, dude, you need to go back to having fun with it.
- 1:10:19And if you're not going to have fun with it, you need to be done
- 1:10:21with it. And that's what I did last
- 1:10:23night. You walked up to me like, dude,
- 1:10:26simplify it. Go back to when you were a kid.
- 1:10:28And I'm like, man, I was a kid. I wasn't thinking about, oh, I
- 1:10:30got to do this. I got to do that.
- 1:10:32I was just doing it for fun. And that's what it's about.
- 1:10:35When I come out here and ride him, you know, I, I might work a
- 1:10:3812 hour shit and I'm tired, but if I come out here and ride him
- 1:10:43for two hours, it almost gives you a second wind.
- 1:10:46And it's like, you know, the responsibility that we have,
- 1:10:50right? Like we've gone.
- 1:10:51Down a path now, like we're responsible for him now.
- 1:10:55It's not just, yeah, the horse sits in the stall and whatever.
- 1:10:59Like, you know, we make sure that he's fed, right?
- 1:11:01We make sure that he's vetted, We make sure that his meds are
- 1:11:04all taken care of. Like when I say meds, I mean
- 1:11:06supplements because my wife is all about the supplements
- 1:11:09anyway. But there's, you know, there's a
- 1:11:11lot that goes. I was into it.
- 1:11:12It's not just you ride him, you know, once or twice a week for
- 1:11:1645 minutes. It's, you know, he's in the
- 1:11:18round pen right now, you know, flexing.
- 1:11:20So it's, it's there's a lot of build up that goes into this.
- 1:11:24And people tell us all the time. I mean, Shane and I laugh, you
- 1:11:27know, you live my dream life and I'm always like, do I?
- 1:11:31Do I really like? I was out here at 5:00. 15 this
- 1:11:34morning, you know, with a light. On so that I could feed and get
- 1:11:37this all ready because I knew that we were going to record and
- 1:11:41come rain snow I mean not that we get snow but whether you're
- 1:11:45sicker than a dog right if it's raining outside these horses got
- 1:11:49to get fed they got to get watered they didn't have to be
- 1:11:52pinned up Nope and so. Yeah, it's and, and it does so
- 1:11:56much that goes into it. Like you just said, 515,
- 1:11:59Christmas Day, New Year's Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day,
- 1:12:02you got to be here. Somebody's got to feed.
- 1:12:05Or if you go on vacation, you got to find somebody to come.
- 1:12:08Yeah. It's not like watching the dogs,
- 1:12:09No, not at all. Yes.
- 1:12:12I would change, I mean like, you know, Jess bringing.
- 1:12:16Us together has been one of the best things that I could ever
- 1:12:18have asked for. It's really, you know, it's
- 1:12:21brought Jess and IA lot closer, you know, beautiful thing.
- 1:12:25Yeah. It's been it's been great.
- 1:12:26Not just. From the horse perspective.
- 1:12:28But I mean, we kind of have our own little community out here.
- 1:12:31It's a community within a community.
- 1:12:33And it's been a lot of fun to build.
- 1:12:35But I mean, that's what that's what life is, man, you know you.
- 1:12:38Got to surround yourself around people that build you up.
- 1:12:41Build you up, That's it. That's it.
- 1:12:43And that's. Been my.
- 1:12:45My biggest thing, and especially after, after the fact of
- 1:12:49everything that's I've been through, you know, you, you
- 1:12:53surround yourself with what you want to be like, you know, be
- 1:12:56get around the people that that are a step ahead of you.
- 1:12:58You know, if you're the smartest one at the table, you're at the
- 1:13:02wrong table, you know, And that's actually really well
- 1:13:05said. Yeah.
- 1:13:06Oh, really? Though that's that's when you
- 1:13:08think about that. It's it's that's.
- 1:13:09It's just simple. And I need to stop eating.
- 1:13:11Dinner with my kids. He didn't mean that.
- 1:13:17Gosh, he didn't mean that. If they ever hear that, he did
- 1:13:21not mean that, no. So I had no idea that there's a
- 1:13:28black rodeo, OK, like that was. I think it was last.
- 1:13:33Year Sam and a like Oh yeah, we're going to rodeo I'm like
- 1:13:36where like we'll traps and then go ride a bull where the black
- 1:13:41rodeo I'm like what's the black rodeo?
- 1:13:43Yeah, it was awesome by the way. It was fun, yeah.
- 1:13:46So. When I was a kid, I.
- 1:13:50To this rodeo that. Was just here recently.
- 1:13:52Actually is produced by Black Rodeo USA.
- 1:13:57That's the rodeo company name and radio production company, I
- 1:14:02should say. But the the predecessors where
- 1:14:08the Bill Pickett Rodeo company, Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo
- 1:14:11Company started. I want to say it's been over 30
- 1:14:15years since they've been going and they've been going all over
- 1:14:17the nation in the tour and it's a heritage rodeo and they're
- 1:14:21trying to showcase the forgotten black cowboy.
- 1:14:24And you know, there's some of the, you know, Bill Pickett, he
- 1:14:27invented steer wrestling. No one really knows that this
- 1:14:30guy's was famous for jumping off his horse, grabbing horse by the
- 1:14:34grabbing a steer by the horns and then he'd bite the lip.
- 1:14:38He bit the steers bottom lip and that's how he'd get him to roll
- 1:14:42over. And that's how steer wrestling
- 1:14:44was invented. And there's Deadwood Dick that
- 1:14:48they talk about, and it was just some of the older Cowboys,
- 1:14:52Buffalo, the Buffalo Soldiers, and they just try to showcase
- 1:14:58that. That there is.
- 1:15:00Black Cowboys and you know, people forget about us all the
- 1:15:03time, but it's just like an, an, an Indian rodeo.
- 1:15:07You know, they're showcasing their history and their heritage
- 1:15:10of their lineage and what it was like back then when they got
- 1:15:13into it. My my favorite videos.
- 1:15:16I what? I follow the, I think the
- 1:15:19Oklahoma Cowboys. Oh yeah dude, like when they
- 1:15:22have their. Videos on.
- 1:15:24That the one event where they're just hauling Party Express.
- 1:15:28Oh, OK dude. Well, it's in a.
- 1:15:29Little Yeah, it's. Like so there's 4 barrels in
- 1:15:31that arena, two teams. At a time and they're running a
- 1:15:35relay and it's a six man relay and it is You think Bull Ryan's
- 1:15:40intense. I think that's intense.
- 1:15:41It is this year at it. Yeah.
- 1:15:43There was a guy. From Love Island, I forget his
- 1:15:45name. Taylor.
- 1:15:46You wanna say that horse? So he's coming and the way it's
- 1:15:51lined up, I mean, you're coming from the corner of this arena
- 1:15:54and as this guy comes around that third barrel for set up in
- 1:15:57A-44 barrel pattern, you're coming in like this.
- 1:16:02And so it's almost blind for the guy that's already in the arena
- 1:16:05coming around those barrels. Yeah.
- 1:16:07And that guy didn't kick his horse up.
- 1:16:09And it's prime example what I'm saying.
- 1:16:11It's just as crazy as bull riding.
- 1:16:13Dude, that was a collision. You said he didn't kick his
- 1:16:16horse up. Yeah, he he.
- 1:16:18Didn't run fast enough in front of the guy.
- 1:16:20That had the baton coming towards him, which caused that
- 1:16:23guy to run straight into him and I mean, knocked him clean off
- 1:16:27his source. The horse rolled over the top of
- 1:16:29him. Definitely wasn't pretty, No,
- 1:16:31but yeah, man, that's that's their event down there.
- 1:16:34I got cousins that when they hear this, they're going to be
- 1:16:38like, oh heck yeah, man. You talked about our podcast.
- 1:16:40Yeah, they they, their team name is YFC.
- 1:16:43And they're always at those Oklahoma Cowboys deals in
- 1:16:47Oklahoma and Old Muggy and all those other different places
- 1:16:50down there. Do they ever come out here to do
- 1:16:53that stuff? Not.
- 1:16:55Really. Cam was just here.
- 1:16:56Yeah, my, my. Cousin Cameron, but he's from.
- 1:16:58California, yeah. But the guys that really relay
- 1:17:02out there, dude, you go to rodeo and usually the, the, the people
- 1:17:07are there to watch the bull riding in Oklahoma.
- 1:17:09They're there to watch the relays.
- 1:17:10Yeah. And it's like 30 teams.
- 1:17:13Is it, is it like the same as you know, ropers?
- 1:17:15Have their roping horses do do those guys have their relay
- 1:17:19horses? All they do is run relay.
- 1:17:21That's all they do. They just pony.
- 1:17:22Express. You might have a few of.
- 1:17:24Them that that actually do some other events, but they literally
- 1:17:28eat sleep and breathe pony express and it's crazy man.
- 1:17:33It is like I've seen these guys make some makes I mean you're
- 1:17:37literally like fighting they're bumping shoulders elbow and
- 1:17:39whatever it takes to get that baton around, they will do it
- 1:17:43and it is gritty. It is they're hauling and
- 1:17:46there's so much that can go wrong.
- 1:17:48You've seen that arena ain't ain't the best.
- 1:17:50You know, you're making some crazy turns and yeah, you know,
- 1:17:54I tip my hat to them guys cause there's a lot of things I can
- 1:17:57grit through and I'm not sure if that's one that I want to figure
- 1:17:59out if I can do it or not right and go wrong quick.
- 1:18:03Well, we'll get you out there next year, Shane, OK.
- 1:18:05Yeah, yeah, man. Well, yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 1:18:09You know, I'll do a blindfolded. Fucking there you go.
- 1:18:12Well, awesome guys. Listen, man, this has been a
- 1:18:14blast. I know that you got to work,
- 1:18:16Red. Still.
