Transcript
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: As a writer, you know that creativity is an essential part of what you do.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Without new input and new ideas, you'll resort to the same way of doing things and the same old ideas.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: But the question is, how do we make creativity a part of our everyday life?
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Well, the author Edward Dabano once wrote, Creativity involves breaking out of expected patterns in order to look at things in a different way.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: And one simple way to put this principle into practice is to take a different route to a familiar place.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: It could be your work, your church, the store, or a friend's house.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Whenever you take a different route, you break out of the routine of the familiar.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: And we've all been there.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: We tend to zone out whenever we're driving someplace that's familiar.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: We get in the car and we go and sometimes we pull into the driveway or the parking lot and we wonder, how the heck did I get here?
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: I don't even remember driving here.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: But when you take a different route, you can't just get in the car and zone out.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: You'll pass by different neighborhoods and different stores, and you'll see things that you don't normally see.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: And who knows, you might come across a secondhand store, pop in for a few minutes, and find a book that you read as a kid.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: And that book can help you open up a whole new treasure chest of memories and creative direction.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: And that all can come from simply taking a new way to someplace familiar.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Creativity doesn't have to be complicated, but it does have to be intentional.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: So the next time you hop in your car, take a different route and watch the creative sparks fly.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Hey, thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: As always, I sincerely appreciate it.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: You know, one way to spark your creativity and to be more intentional is to use writing prompts.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Writing prompts are a shortened sentence or two that help you break through creative blocks, brainstorm new ideas, and get back into a state of flow.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: And they're also a fantastic creative tool for journaling, storytelling, stress relief, and so much more.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: But it's not just for your own private writing, you can also use writing prompts as a tool for speaking, teaching, masterminds, social media posts, podcasting, coaching, and so much more.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Every day for the whole next entire year, you can get an email from me with a writing prompt that's original.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: You can check it out at dailywriterlife.comslash writing prompts.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much, and I'll see you tomorrow.
