- 0:00Speaker 1: The Force will be with you always.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Hello and welcome back to another episode of Star Wars Alliance.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Of course, I'm your host, Clay and with me like
- 0:29Speaker 2: always is. Of course, Katie, Katie, how you doing.
- 0:35Speaker 1: I am doing decent. How are you, Clay? I know
- 0:39Speaker 1: we were off last week unexpectedly because I wasn't sick.
- 0:44Speaker 1: This time it was me.
- 0:47Speaker 2: It was my turn to be sick. I am well,
- 0:55Speaker 2: I am better. Well, I say, well, I am better
- 0:58Speaker 2: than what I was yesterday. I'll say that, and that
- 1:06Speaker 2: isn't saying much. I will I will attest to that.
- 1:12Speaker 2: But Katie, today is a very bittersweet day. But maybe
- 1:23Speaker 2: not really because I feel I feel like we could
- 1:27Speaker 2: wait until the very end to talk about the little
- 1:30Speaker 2: snippet that you shared or was it me that shared it?
- 1:34Speaker 2: I can't remember who it was. Uh, oh it was you,
- 1:40Speaker 2: it was you that shared it. Yeah, we will share
- 1:43Speaker 2: that at the very end of our review.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:47Speaker 2: But guys, this is as you, of course can see
- 1:51Speaker 2: by the title the Trials of the Jedi review the
- 1:58Speaker 2: High Republic. It's come to an end with kind of
- 2:04Speaker 2: sort of kind there's.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Yeah, three more High Republic Adventures trades that are.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Coming out is also true.
- 2:15Speaker 1: It is a Higher Republic Marvel trade that still has
- 2:18Speaker 1: to come out.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Yes, that is that is true as well. But this
- 2:24Speaker 2: is what was advertised as the end of this initiative.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Mm hmmm.
- 2:34Speaker 2: I am midway through my second read.
- 2:38Speaker 1: I read it thanks to the audiobook, at two point
- 2:44Speaker 1: five speed today, so I started and finished it today.
- 2:48Speaker 2: I I was going to but I I I really
- 2:56Speaker 2: enjoyed this, and there is some bombs. I will say,
- 2:59Speaker 2: there is some things that I probably will nitpick throughout
- 3:03Speaker 2: this review. I enjoyed this enough to listen at normal speed,
- 3:09Speaker 2: which is actually insane for me because normal speed is
- 3:15Speaker 2: like negative fifteen time speed, Like I feel like people
- 3:21Speaker 2: talk so slow when it's at normal speed. But yeah,
- 3:26Speaker 2: uh there was some twists, some turns, some unanswered questions,
- 3:34Speaker 2: some answered questions, and uh, yeah, there's a lot to
- 3:41Speaker 2: this book, guys. This is of course written by Charles soul.
- 3:46Speaker 2: He started and quote unquote ended The High Republic. This
- 3:56Speaker 2: book I felt like had a lot of weight to
- 4:01Speaker 2: it as far as expectations wise, and Katie, I have
- 4:07Speaker 2: to ask you, did this book meet expectations?
- 4:15Speaker 1: I would say in terms of finishing the grand story?
- 4:20Speaker 2: Yes, okay, there is.
- 4:24Speaker 1: A lot at play here, which I think is once
- 4:27Speaker 1: again and it's something that we have talked about for
- 4:30Speaker 1: every single Phase three book. It's playing with too many
- 4:34Speaker 1: characters in a sandbox because there's no reason that we
- 4:41Speaker 1: needed to go to the Battle of the Ariatu, and
- 4:45Speaker 1: really the interludes.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Kind of piss me off, I will tell you this,
- 4:55Speaker 2: and I think some people might actually be mad at
- 4:58Speaker 2: this equivalent, but it's something that I immediately thought of
- 5:03Speaker 2: and it kind of made me feel a little dirty.
- 5:08Speaker 2: The Battle of Iriatu and the interludes was basically the
- 5:19Speaker 2: Russian family from Justice League, from Jostice League.
- 5:28Speaker 1: And basically and it would be hit. I think it
- 5:30Speaker 1: would have been one thing if we were getting like
- 5:33Speaker 1: familiar character like we're getting familiar characters in the Battle
- 5:36Speaker 1: of Period, don't get wrong, But the interlude scenes, we
- 5:40Speaker 1: get this random family on a planet that I think
- 5:44Speaker 1: is brand new, like m h. There's not a whole
- 5:50Speaker 1: lot of point to it other than telling you, hey,
- 5:52Speaker 1: this is how the Blight's going on and the rest
- 5:54Speaker 1: of the galaxy and y'all, just as a quick we
- 5:56Speaker 1: didn't really say this. This is a the title says this,
- 6:00Speaker 1: but we didn't really say that this is full spoilers
- 6:03Speaker 1: because the embargo is up. We're going to save some moments,
- 6:07Speaker 1: but there are key moments that we're going to talk about,
- 6:09Speaker 1: like the interludes, basically giving us the transition of the
- 6:13Speaker 1: Blight throughout the book from a normal person's perspective. And
- 6:18Speaker 1: I think the High Republic has done well with introducing
- 6:23Speaker 1: regular people into the galaxy. Yes, but I think those
- 6:27Speaker 1: regular people are Josh, Joss and Pica in the Battle
- 6:32Speaker 1: of Ariado scenes.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Yes.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Yes, I don't think we needed a family.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Exactly because we, as in the readers, have gotten so
- 6:49Speaker 2: many pockets of the Blight.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Mhm.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Nothing has changed. The Blight does not evolve into something
- 7:01Speaker 2: even more catastrophic than what it initially is. Court So
- 7:06Speaker 2: in that aspect, the only thing that Charles Soul was
- 7:12Speaker 2: doing with this family was he was trying to pull
- 7:19Speaker 2: at the heartstrings. He was like, Oh, here's this family
- 7:24Speaker 2: of four and they're Droid and their pet pig, you know,
- 7:31Speaker 2: and you don't know if they're gonna survive, you know,
- 7:37Speaker 2: And I didn't. You're right, I didn't need that because
- 7:42Speaker 2: we had already again seen in almost every single book
- 7:48Speaker 2: since Phase three We've gotten in every single book some
- 7:53Speaker 2: sort of blight, catastrophe, blight evacuation like something or of there.
- 8:00Speaker 2: So I didn't need this.
- 8:02Speaker 1: The only thing that this gave us was, hey, the
- 8:05Speaker 1: blight is healed, like when the guy stops losing his foot.
- 8:10Speaker 1: That gives you their perspective of Okay, the way that
- 8:14Speaker 1: the nameless crisis is handled solves the issue. I'm saving that.
- 8:18Speaker 1: We are going to talk about how it solved, guys, Yes,
- 8:22Speaker 1: but we're gonna save that towards the end. So, and
- 8:27Speaker 1: I don't I think you could have easily done that
- 8:30Speaker 1: if like suddenly it had popped up on Eri Yadu.
- 8:36Speaker 1: And yeah, maybe because it's Cantum and Emeric who were
- 8:44Speaker 1: there with the Turken guy, and you could have easily
- 8:50Speaker 1: had it pop up on Eri Yadu. Yeah, in those
- 8:54Speaker 1: final moments when they're in the cave with Cantum and
- 8:57Speaker 1: all of a sudden one of them is infected and
- 8:59Speaker 1: then you see it words And honestly, because y'all, this
- 9:02Speaker 1: book is hefty. I'm showing the book to Clay, but
- 9:07Speaker 1: like the thing is hafty.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's like a good three or no, no, no,
- 9:14Speaker 2: less less than three hundred. Sorry, it's like, I think
- 9:18Speaker 2: it's less than two hundred.
- 9:21Speaker 1: No, it's four hundred and twenty seven pages.
- 9:24Speaker 2: It's four hundred yeah. Wow.
- 9:29Speaker 1: And so if you put this book up to my
- 9:32Speaker 1: longest book, which is I believe, Lesser Evil, I think
- 9:40Speaker 1: this book is about five hundred.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Pages Lesser Evil that is, uh, book.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Three of the Ascendency trilogy. Yeah yeah, yeah, so this
- 9:49Speaker 1: guy is five hundred and forty nine pages. Yeah yeah,
- 9:54Speaker 1: so for twenty seven so.
- 9:59Speaker 2: And so, so like I think you would actually, well,
- 10:03Speaker 2: I don't know. I feel like you could possibly still
- 10:07Speaker 2: fill in the gaps quote unquote if you take everything
- 10:12Speaker 2: that was with the interlude and place it within Eriadu,
- 10:17Speaker 2: I think you could still get that same reaction. You're
- 10:21Speaker 2: totally right with the same page cap. I feel like
- 10:24Speaker 2: you probably could. So for me, expectation wise, I think
- 10:34Speaker 2: that you were correct as far as the story ending,
- 10:40Speaker 2: it met expectation. Now, how we get there?
- 10:48Speaker 1: Mileage veries?
- 10:51Speaker 2: What'd you say?
- 10:53Speaker 1: Mileage varies?
- 10:54Speaker 2: Yes? Yes?
- 10:58Speaker 1: Can we talk about the nugget of things first, so
- 11:01Speaker 1: that way we end on a positive because I do
- 11:03Speaker 1: really like this book.
- 11:05Speaker 2: I really like this book overall so much so that
- 11:09Speaker 2: like one of the very last chapters, like rewrote my
- 11:14Speaker 2: brain chemistry and I was like, there's a quite there's
- 11:17Speaker 2: literally a possibility of like looking at Star Wars completely
- 11:23Speaker 2: different after this moment. But we will get there the negatives.
- 11:30Speaker 2: There are moments other than the battle of yes yes,
- 11:37Speaker 2: one thing that I I I'm gonna have to be
- 11:40Speaker 2: a little like elusive with this answer because it does
- 11:43Speaker 2: have to deal with like the ending, and we will
- 11:47Speaker 2: get to that, because I do think that is a
- 11:49Speaker 2: very important part. But there is an explanation of the
- 11:57Speaker 2: resolution where uh, some of our Jedi that we know
- 12:04Speaker 2: and love need to be involved in the regrowth of
- 12:15Speaker 2: the galaxy or stopping the blake. Let's just say stopping
- 12:18Speaker 2: the blake, right, And it just like the story, it
- 12:23Speaker 2: peaks and then it ends like it just like like
- 12:26Speaker 2: the the there's so much momentum for this story going
- 12:33Speaker 2: into everything, and it legitimately does feel like after that peak,
- 12:42Speaker 2: it's just a cliff. There is no ramp. It's just boom,
- 12:47Speaker 2: and you're like, oh, it's over, it's it's all, it's all,
- 12:50Speaker 2: It's okay.
- 12:53Speaker 1: And I think that's where the final interlude kind of
- 12:55Speaker 1: serves as a as a stopping point on the drop
- 13:00Speaker 1: to go. That's like probably the only good thing about
- 13:03Speaker 1: the interludes is this goes well, Okay, hey, it really
- 13:07Speaker 1: did stop everything. Yeah, like we're good, we're golden. But
- 13:12Speaker 1: then you get literally, like Charles said, everybody's fate is
- 13:19Speaker 1: after that interlude, basically like that's it.
- 13:24Speaker 2: And can you confirm since you have the book in
- 13:27Speaker 2: front of you, Yeah, it's like a good like is
- 13:33Speaker 2: it less than ten chapters?
- 13:36Speaker 1: Okay, so we're going we're talking part four. So the interlude,
- 13:49Speaker 1: so we have kind of everything kind of resolves, so
- 13:52Speaker 1: it's chapter thirty three, chapter thirty four. Okay, so it's
- 14:03Speaker 1: like thirty six.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Oh no, I'm sorry, it's part five a part five interlude. Okay,
- 14:11Speaker 2: So it is one, two, three, four, five, and then
- 14:17Speaker 2: six is the epilogue. So it is and if you
- 14:22Speaker 2: want to technically count the interlude, that's like seven chapters.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Seven chapters of just like coasting. You are literally coasting
- 14:33Speaker 2: to the end of the book. Yeah, at that point.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Because realistically the last chapter you're looking for for like
- 14:41Speaker 1: the epilogue is like it's chapter forty and then forty one,
- 14:53Speaker 1: so that that's what you're looking at basically for how
- 14:58Speaker 1: things line up, and I think they change the chapters assignments.
- 15:03Speaker 1: No they didn't. I'm sorry. I was thinking it was
- 15:06Speaker 1: like twenty seven chapters long, and I was like, wait
- 15:08Speaker 1: a second, No it is, so it's forty one ish chapters,
- 15:16Speaker 1: not counting interludes, guys. But yeah, the last two chapters
- 15:21Speaker 1: are basically, hey, here's how all our characters end up.
- 15:25Speaker 1: But one of the characters that has been a main
- 15:28Speaker 1: focus in this initiative is vernetro Row. All right, y'all,
- 15:33Speaker 1: we're gonna hit our first ad break and we will
- 15:35Speaker 1: be right back in three two one, And she basically
- 15:42Speaker 1: doesn't exist in this book. She has problems with being
- 15:49Speaker 1: allocated to the second team. So we know that there's
- 15:53Speaker 1: nine Jedi that end up on the Quest because that's
- 15:58Speaker 1: how many suits of arms that they had enough to
- 16:02Speaker 1: make enough material to make for. And then there's a
- 16:07Speaker 1: second team that's supposed to take over if somebody ends
- 16:11Speaker 1: up getting taken out, and we do actually see that happen.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Vernessha's allocated to the second team. And this is a
- 16:22Speaker 1: thing where I think they bid off too many pieces
- 16:25Speaker 1: in the grand scheme of things, and maybe it's good
- 16:28Speaker 1: that way Seeker came out first, because that is I
- 16:31Speaker 1: guess her resolution.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Her ending, and that's that's okay. So this is the
- 16:38Speaker 2: problem that I have way Seeker for all tens and purposes.
- 16:45Speaker 2: And and I know this is gonna sound very hypocritical
- 16:50Speaker 2: for somebody who does legitimately look at books are cannon,
- 16:56Speaker 2: shows are canning, movies are cannon everything else. Way Seeker
- 17:01Speaker 2: felt like more of, Hey, this is connected to the show,
- 17:09Speaker 2: not connected to the High Republic initiative that we are reading.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Yeah, because they specifically left out anything related to trials
- 17:19Speaker 1: other than ty yorick.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Yeah. And so because of that we saw starting with
- 17:30Speaker 2: phase three, well not even starting with phase three. From
- 17:34Speaker 2: Phase one to the beginning of phase three, Ernestra was
- 17:41Speaker 2: everywhere everywhere. After Temptation of the Force Boom Gone, she
- 17:52Speaker 2: has not been anywhere. And we had said, oh, Lucasfilm
- 18:00Speaker 2: del I was about to say, del ray freaking.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Random House World, Random.
- 18:07Speaker 2: House worlds Star Wars, whoever made this decision, said oh,
- 18:12Speaker 2: Vernestra is going to graduate from the middle grade book
- 18:17Speaker 2: to the the story group. Yeah, to the story group,
- 18:23Speaker 2: And you would think, oh, that means we're going to
- 18:27Speaker 2: get more of her to end the story, especially when
- 18:32Speaker 2: given that she has the Path and like all of
- 18:36Speaker 2: these different things right and they give us nothing.
- 18:42Speaker 1: And I feel like the Path itself was kind of
- 18:46Speaker 1: resolved in defy the storm and potentially even the dispatches
- 18:53Speaker 1: from the occlusion Zone, which is a trade that we're
- 18:55Speaker 1: going to be discussing at the beginning of next month. Guys, Yes,
- 19:00Speaker 1: because there are some things like barnabas Vim, like figuring
- 19:04Speaker 1: out like who barnabas Vim was in this era for
- 19:09Speaker 1: these eras. Jedis like that's all in not trade. Yes,
- 19:14Speaker 1: so it's kind of glossed over, but if you want
- 19:16Speaker 1: those details, you have to go find that comic. So
- 19:19Speaker 1: I feel like a lot of stuff potentially ended up there,
- 19:23Speaker 1: which I'm not a fan of, because again, you introduced
- 19:26Speaker 1: all this stuff and tying up, and I get you
- 19:30Speaker 1: want the characters to cross over, and it's just the
- 19:31Speaker 1: thing that we've had with Phase three in general. So
- 19:33Speaker 1: I don't want to hurt on it too much because
- 19:35Speaker 1: it's yes, but it sucks because you look at Vernastra
- 19:45Speaker 1: and she is such a prominent character and then gets
- 19:48Speaker 1: sidelined and it kind of feels the same we talked
- 19:51Speaker 1: about it with the Edge Balance books. It's like Edge Balance,
- 19:55Speaker 1: Lily's on her planet, which I can't ever remember the
- 20:00Speaker 1: a name of, but then all of a sudden she
- 20:03Speaker 1: ends up in Trials and in her Edge of Balance,
- 20:05Speaker 1: she's like, I'm going to rebuild the Jedi Temple. We're
- 20:08Speaker 1: gonna have an outpost, and then damn, we have left
- 20:12Speaker 1: the planet. And she does say like, oh, I wish
- 20:14Speaker 1: I was on my planet right now, But like, why
- 20:17Speaker 1: would you pull her away from that when she really
- 20:19Speaker 1: hasn't been a prominent character anywhere else. This is her
- 20:22Speaker 1: first appearance outside of those manga at this point. Yeah.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Yeah, So it's.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Chaotic in a sense because we're left with, oh, the
- 20:35Speaker 1: Path didn't get finished up. We still have a spy
- 20:38Speaker 1: in the Jedi Temple from Defy the Storm or no
- 20:42Speaker 1: it was it was Tears of the Nameless. We have
- 20:46Speaker 1: a spy somewhere that never got resolved.
- 20:51Speaker 2: It's even mentioned here in this book.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Did I miss that? Where was it?
- 20:58Speaker 2: So? Uh? Oh? Shoot? What's her name? Uh? Starros?
- 21:05Speaker 1: Yeah, her mother? Okay.
- 21:09Speaker 2: She even says to Mark like, oh, like the you know,
- 21:15Speaker 2: our people on the ground at Coorscan haven't said anything
- 21:18Speaker 2: about this, like like she mentions it.
- 21:24Speaker 1: I'm to go back and bread in the third time.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Now, yeah, she mentions it, and so like you know
- 21:31Speaker 2: that there is like there's so many things, and like
- 21:35Speaker 2: I will say, this another thing that is found out.
- 21:41Speaker 2: And this is again more of a resolution for the ending,
- 21:45Speaker 2: which we will get to because that is the more
- 21:47Speaker 2: positive side of things. We legitimately thought because it was
- 21:53Speaker 2: explained in this way that the blight was something that
- 21:59Speaker 2: was placed upon the planets, and come to find out
- 22:05Speaker 2: it is literally just random, random and I do.
- 22:13Speaker 1: Think that potentially it picked random planets, but it went
- 22:19Speaker 1: towards forced nexus plants, so like popping up in the
- 22:24Speaker 1: depths of the Jedi Temple with the Sith area that
- 22:29Speaker 1: we know is down there. I think that makes sense.
- 22:32Speaker 1: On Kashik, the blight is very close to the white
- 22:35Speaker 1: grocure trees, which are for sensitive, so it's a force
- 22:40Speaker 1: nexus sort of situation on the planet. Those are really
- 22:44Speaker 1: my only two weeks examples at this point, but I
- 22:49Speaker 1: think that would make sense because it's eating the balance,
- 22:54Speaker 1: and so that blight is looking to solve the balance
- 22:59Speaker 1: by taking on some of the force, which is why
- 23:03Speaker 1: it goes for the Jedi because they're forced nextus points
- 23:07Speaker 1: with the nameless. But in this book we see that
- 23:11Speaker 1: the Nameless have moved on, which I think is the
- 23:14Speaker 1: sign that okay, things are heightening up. So now it's
- 23:18Speaker 1: just pure randomness again.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Yeah, and speaking of the Blight and especially the Sith
- 23:25Speaker 2: Temple underneath the Jedi Temple again, Charles Soul shows us
- 23:31Speaker 2: again that Yoda is just like they're fine, We're okay.
- 23:38Speaker 2: They have a youngling go all the way down to
- 23:41Speaker 2: the depths of the temple and she's like, I need
- 23:46Speaker 2: Master Yoda, and all the other Jedi are like, little girl,
- 23:50Speaker 2: what are you doing here? And she's like, hey, they
- 23:52Speaker 2: sent me, and I like, okay, I didn't. I didn't
- 23:57Speaker 2: like this this little this little young Wing is explaining
- 24:03Speaker 2: herself like as she is walking down to this you know,
- 24:07Speaker 2: depths of this Sith Temple, basically, oh, everybody is so important,
- 24:14Speaker 2: they can't waste their time to go get Master Yoda,
- 24:18Speaker 2: so they will choose me because I have nothing better
- 24:22Speaker 2: to do. Like that is such a horrible way of
- 24:27Speaker 2: thinking for a young wing.
- 24:29Speaker 1: Like, but let's be real, Like I feel like kids
- 24:33Speaker 1: definitely do that, Like, oh, like everybody else has so
- 24:37Speaker 1: much better things to zoo.
- 24:39Speaker 2: Okay, like that if you think of it like that, Okay,
- 24:43Speaker 2: in the mindset of that young wing, I can understand
- 24:46Speaker 2: it that way. It almost gave me like a like
- 24:50Speaker 2: the Jedi counsel said, Hey, we're way too important, you
- 24:54Speaker 2: go down and do this. But yeah, like she she
- 24:58Speaker 2: goes and she gets Yoda. Yoda gets up from meditating,
- 25:03Speaker 2: and like four other Jedi just like nearly collapse again.
- 25:07Speaker 2: And I'm just like, okay, like, are we not the
- 25:11Speaker 2: elephant in the room here, Guys like Yoda is a
- 25:14Speaker 2: little bit of a jerk, and nobody is saying anything
- 25:17Speaker 2: about it, like it's wrong.
- 25:19Speaker 1: He's just that powerful. It's not that he's a jerk.
- 25:22Speaker 1: He's just literally holding that much of the blight back
- 25:27Speaker 1: that four people have to take on his pursuits of destroyer,
- 25:32Speaker 1: of keeping the blight back.
- 25:35Speaker 2: So, speaking of Gira Starrows, that's the name, is what
- 25:41Speaker 2: I couldn't remember. How did you feel about Gira? She
- 25:53Speaker 2: like she has like really just two moments in this book,
- 26:00Speaker 2: right before we have the quote unquote nine start their
- 26:06Speaker 2: journey to fix this giant problem with the blight in
- 26:08Speaker 2: the Nameless. Yeah, she has she has a moment there,
- 26:12Speaker 2: and then she has a moment at the very end
- 26:14Speaker 2: when things are starting to resolve and everything else. One
- 26:20Speaker 2: I will say she is a horrible person till the
- 26:27Speaker 2: very end. Sorry, that's just how I feel about it.
- 26:31Speaker 1: I kind of felt like she was going to get
- 26:33Speaker 1: a redeeming moment just because of what we have read
- 26:36Speaker 1: with Sauna, Starros and everything. And I feel like, especially
- 26:40Speaker 1: way Seeker, it kind of shows like even though Avon
- 26:45Speaker 1: is still kind of going by Sunvale, there's people who
- 26:47Speaker 1: know like she originally went by Starros to start, and
- 26:52Speaker 1: that name is picked back up. So I really felt
- 26:56Speaker 1: like that was coming for Gheara, Like Gara wasn't gonna
- 26:59Speaker 1: end up bomb trial ah And at the end of
- 27:03Speaker 1: the day, I was fine with her resolution.
- 27:07Speaker 2: So I I just it left a little bit of
- 27:11Speaker 2: a bad taste in my mouth. Not so much so
- 27:13Speaker 2: for like, oh, Charles did a really bad job at this,
- 27:16Speaker 2: more so Charles did too good of a job and
- 27:20Speaker 2: making her a really dirty politician. Yeah, which is it's
- 27:26Speaker 2: like just with today's climate, it just made my skin
- 27:28Speaker 2: crawl and I'm just.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Like, yeah, no, I totally get that factor because it
- 27:35Speaker 1: definitely does lean that way, so as definitely dirty politician
- 27:42Speaker 1: as much as you can. So yeah, all right, because
- 27:51Speaker 1: my biggest points was my biggest issues was Vernestra, Battle
- 27:58Speaker 1: of the Ariatu and then the interludes. But I mean realistically,
- 28:04Speaker 1: just as like a heads up for people. This initiative
- 28:08Speaker 1: has twenty five novels, one hundred and thirty nine comic
- 28:13Speaker 1: book issues, twenty two short stories, six original manga graphic novels,
- 28:20Speaker 1: and five audio originals.
- 28:24Speaker 2: Damn for what we've.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Said for the last book in this series, I feel
- 28:29Speaker 1: like that's the what we've said or nitpicks in the
- 28:34Speaker 1: koreand scheme of things for how ten authors were able
- 28:37Speaker 1: to connect everything together. Yeah, which is where we lead
- 28:42Speaker 1: into the major story discussion and our positives about the
- 28:48Speaker 1: way the book flows. Yes, first, can I be real
- 28:54Speaker 1: with something really fast because this is like totally unrelated
- 28:58Speaker 1: and everything. So when Arkoff was announced as one of
- 29:04Speaker 1: the nine originally in I think it was the Star
- 29:08Speaker 1: Wars celebration thing. I totally thought that ar Coff for
- 29:14Speaker 1: some reason was Kal Knaka, and I was really confused
- 29:20Speaker 1: because I didn't have the hair pees.
- 29:23Speaker 2: I think I think that probably played into the fact
- 29:28Speaker 2: that we also got kalm Knaka in uh.
- 29:34Speaker 1: The Fear of the Dead I comic.
- 29:37Speaker 2: No no, no, uh, in the book with Wreath and Aslan, Uh,
- 29:43Speaker 2: the the last book. Yes, Tears of the Names.
- 29:46Speaker 1: Yes, you're right, yeah, yeah, into the Light, Into the Light. Sorry, No,
- 29:54Speaker 1: you're gonna get him confused too. We're gonna go into
- 29:57Speaker 1: our second ad break and we'll right back. I really
- 30:02Speaker 1: thought arkof was kel Knaka for the longest time, and
- 30:05Speaker 1: so when he gets his leg bit off or cut
- 30:08Speaker 1: off because of the nameless attack right before they're about
- 30:12Speaker 1: to take off, I was really confused because I was like,
- 30:15Speaker 1: kel Naka, does it have a prosthetic in the ally?
- 30:20Speaker 1: So yeah, that took me a hot minute to figure
- 30:25Speaker 1: out properly.
- 30:27Speaker 2: So speaking of that, so it's really funny. I am
- 30:34Speaker 2: now looking at the photo on my other screen of
- 30:38Speaker 2: what we currently have as the background, which is the
- 30:41Speaker 2: dust jacket of the hardcover of this book. It will
- 30:46Speaker 2: most likely be the actual cover on the trade paperback
- 30:50Speaker 2: of this book. We talked about this. You're like, oh,
- 30:55Speaker 2: here is the nine and we were like, okay, yeah.
- 31:06Speaker 2: When we saw the first glimpse, we're like, oh, okay, Well,
- 31:13Speaker 2: because I think at the time, they only showed like
- 31:16Speaker 2: the bottom half of the front cover, which we're like, oh,
- 31:20Speaker 2: that that must be Buriaga because that's clearly a Wookie.
- 31:27Speaker 2: And we're like, oh, we're gonna assume that Belle is there.
- 31:32Speaker 2: And we saw the purple lightsaber, like, oh, there's Vernestra.
- 31:35Speaker 2: Well then there was a big reveal. Right, you're like, Okay,
- 31:38Speaker 2: that's not Vernestra, that's actually Tie. Why is Buckets of
- 31:42Speaker 2: Blood here? He's usually in the Republic Adventures comic. This
- 31:50Speaker 2: is odd. And then I don't know if we made
- 31:53Speaker 2: this actual like mistake or not. At first glance, Terrek
- 32:03Speaker 2: could easily be mistaken for Vernestra because of the way
- 32:08Speaker 2: they colored this book.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Yeah, like I'm showing the dust jacket like in my
- 32:15Speaker 1: hand because uh, Terrek is kind of blocked with our
- 32:20Speaker 1: images and stuff. But yeah, especially after getting her in
- 32:24Speaker 1: the Acolyte, she could have easily shaved her head and
- 32:28Speaker 1: not have been Vernestra. Yeah, Like it took Star Wars
- 32:32Speaker 1: celebration to go, oh, that's Terrek. Why is that? Derek
- 32:36Speaker 1: Like yeah, so, and it makes sense because Terrek is
- 32:39Speaker 1: communicating to Sarah Sarah, which which I think.
- 32:43Speaker 2: Is very clever, which I think is actually very clever.
- 32:46Speaker 2: It's like, oh, how do we know that it's going
- 32:48Speaker 2: to be a mission success and all of these other things?
- 32:50Speaker 2: How do we know when things start to hit the fan?
- 32:53Speaker 2: The fan? Oh? Like, it's literally internal communication. Like I
- 33:00Speaker 2: immediately thought of Young Justice, how mcghan connects everybody with
- 33:04Speaker 2: telepathy and stuff like that. Like I was like, Oh,
- 33:07Speaker 2: that's very clever. I like this, So I dig that.
- 33:13Speaker 2: The way Buckets is involved though made me really sad
- 33:20Speaker 2: because and even Wreath brings this up later on, but
- 33:26Speaker 2: because of what we had read in the mangas, knowing
- 33:30Speaker 2: that Arkov was also going to be there to support
- 33:33Speaker 2: Wreath in kind of wrangling Haslin, I was like, Oh,
- 33:38Speaker 2: this is how we're going to get our redemption story
- 33:40Speaker 2: for Aslan because he is a completely different person in
- 33:45Speaker 2: front of our cop. He really seen this before. And
- 33:51Speaker 2: then that's taken away because a new development occur in
- 34:00Speaker 2: this book where no longer is it just force sensitive
- 34:06Speaker 2: individuals that are being affected by nameless. It is literally
- 34:11Speaker 2: everyone that is being affected by the nameless because we
- 34:16Speaker 2: have like temple guards or or like no, no, it wasn't
- 34:20Speaker 2: even guards, they were.
- 34:22Speaker 1: It's republic volunteers.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it's RDC.
- 34:27Speaker 1: Make sure they're not for sensitive.
- 34:29Speaker 2: Yeah, they weren't tested beforehand.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Yeah, And the nine are in their armor as the
- 34:35Speaker 1: Nameless are being loaded into the Ataraxia, which has been
- 34:39Speaker 1: outfitted with special cages so the nameless can't affect them
- 34:43Speaker 1: and everything. But they're wearing their armor to kind of
- 34:45Speaker 1: practice and stuff, and so I have to wonder. So
- 34:50Speaker 1: one of the name like the nameless effects starts to
- 34:53Speaker 1: affect the RDC guys, and so a blaster goes off,
- 34:57Speaker 1: a nameless gets free, and Arkoff has to jump in
- 35:00Speaker 1: front of the nameless. It's like a hey, I'm over
- 35:03Speaker 1: here distraction to prevent the nameless from getting into the
- 35:07Speaker 1: temple and going after younglings and all the other unprotected
- 35:11Speaker 1: Jedi that are around. And Buckets gets involved because he's
- 35:17Speaker 1: a medic and he wants to take care of people
- 35:20Speaker 1: by slicing Arkov's layoff, which in the circuit.
- 35:24Speaker 2: But that was the thing, like Buckets almost like instinctively
- 35:29Speaker 2: like immediately cut open the glass of the viewing port
- 35:33Speaker 2: that they were in, jumped down and immediately started helping.
- 35:39Speaker 2: And when they finally wrangled the nameless, uh one had
- 35:47Speaker 2: like you had said bit ar CoV, and Buckets like
- 35:52Speaker 2: immediately severed the leg and then like looked at it
- 35:56Speaker 2: and was like, Okay, if if there's anything else, I'm
- 36:00Speaker 2: ready to cut again. And I'm like, dude, cutting again,
- 36:03Speaker 2: like you just gotta kill him, Like, well, what's going
- 36:07Speaker 2: on here?
- 36:09Speaker 1: But it's also like where oh gosh, what's her name?
- 36:14Speaker 1: Oh gosh, it's the one who was the Santeca cousin. Yeah,
- 36:19Speaker 1: had like the laser gun and it was the same
- 36:22Speaker 1: thing with what's his name? Mm hm, oh my gosh,
- 36:28Speaker 1: it's right over there in the back corner of my brain.
- 36:31Speaker 1: But with his arm. She was like, okay, I'm cutting
- 36:34Speaker 1: the hand. We're gonna put it in the Stasi's field.
- 36:37Speaker 1: If anything happens, I'm cutting more.
- 36:40Speaker 2: Yeah, like yeah, And so.
- 36:44Speaker 1: It like.
- 36:46Speaker 2: When because he even like gives Arkov medicine to like
- 36:50Speaker 2: basically put him to sleep, uh, to get past the pain.
- 36:54Speaker 2: And then he's like, well, there's only one person who's
- 36:58Speaker 2: big enough to feel in the armor that Arkoff has,
- 37:03Speaker 2: and he just starts taking off the armor on Arkov
- 37:06Speaker 2: and puts it on himself.
- 37:07Speaker 1: I love Buckets so much, Like I was so happy
- 37:13Speaker 1: because he goes off naked in the in the comic
- 37:17Speaker 1: book to like go kill nameless and like save people,
- 37:21Speaker 1: and then he disappears and he's rescued in the High
- 37:24Speaker 1: Republican Adventures like Phase three comic. So I was happy
- 37:28Speaker 1: to see him come back. It's very sad that he's
- 37:31Speaker 1: the first one to die of the die first day last.
- 37:35Speaker 2: I was gonna say first and only death of the
- 37:41Speaker 2: entire book. Now technically shocks me to my core. There
- 37:47Speaker 2: there is an ending that like says like, oh, you know,
- 37:51Speaker 2: as time passed, this person eventually dies. That's that doesn't count,
- 37:56Speaker 2: doesn't the murder of an individual. Buckets is the only
- 38:04Speaker 2: Jedi that dies, and he dies.
- 38:08Speaker 1: To show you the purpose of the Jedi, like he
- 38:11Speaker 1: knew what his job was. And it sucks because I.
- 38:15Speaker 2: Like I like, I had to stop. I legitimately stopped
- 38:21Speaker 2: reading for a bit because the overall consistence consist of
- 38:30Speaker 2: I can't even say that word. The whole point, the
- 38:37Speaker 2: whole point that the Jedi come to is, Hey, we've
- 38:44Speaker 2: wrangled up these twelve nameless. We need to take them
- 38:51Speaker 2: back to their home world alive. They cannot die. We
- 38:56Speaker 2: need to take care of them. We need to send
- 38:58Speaker 2: them home. We think this is one of the only
- 39:01Speaker 2: ways to stop the blight.
- 39:04Speaker 1: And this is the consensus, guys, just to kind of.
- 39:06Speaker 3: That's the word the connections, like to the rest of
- 39:14Speaker 3: what the Higher Republic is, this is from its High
- 39:18Speaker 3: Republic Edge of.
- 39:20Speaker 1: Balance, the one we just reviewed, that's the name, not
- 39:23Speaker 1: the number yuh Edge of Balance, Premonition and Tiers of
- 39:34Speaker 1: the Nameless. So Yoda's vision with the Leveler say, like
- 39:41Speaker 1: the Leveler, he basically gets an insistence from the Leveler
- 39:44Speaker 1: that's like, hey, I want to go home, and Tiers
- 39:48Speaker 1: of the Nameless reath has those visions in the Kiber
- 39:52Speaker 1: mirror that shows the top the people of that planet
- 39:59Speaker 1: returning the ass home and the blight stop it. Yes,
- 40:03Speaker 1: so that's kind of where the Jedi made the connections. Yes,
- 40:08Speaker 1: because I struggled with that on my first read. I
- 40:11Speaker 1: was like, wait a second, where does this come from.
- 40:15Speaker 2: So when they finally get to the planet, the main
- 40:22Speaker 2: focus is to keep them alive and to figure out
- 40:25Speaker 2: how to stop the blight. So when things start to
- 40:28Speaker 2: hit the fan, it is I believe Buryaga's blade he
- 40:37Speaker 2: throws it two buckets on the intention on killing the
- 40:45Speaker 2: Nameless because the Nameless has Buckets literally into his shoulder
- 40:53Speaker 2: literally like in like basically in all of this meat
- 40:58Speaker 2: that is between your shoulder and neck area is where
- 41:02Speaker 2: a nameless has him, and Buckets literally lifts up his
- 41:06Speaker 2: hand stops at midway, and Bucket's final thoughts is I've
- 41:14Speaker 2: come here to save lives, not in them. And then
- 41:18Speaker 2: the nameless drags him into the uh uh destroyed ship
- 41:25Speaker 2: and you just assume that he is just eaten. Yeah,
- 41:30Speaker 2: that was so heartbreaking.
- 41:33Speaker 1: One of like three times I cried in this book.
- 41:39Speaker 2: It was so I was so mad that don't know,
- 41:46Speaker 2: I I like, I get and and this is why
- 41:48Speaker 2: I love Buckets because even through all of that, you know,
- 41:54Speaker 2: the the the conversation he was kind of having to
- 41:58Speaker 2: himself when he was helping Arkov, when he was sitting
- 42:02Speaker 2: in the ship on the way to Planet X, like,
- 42:06Speaker 2: his only thoughts were, I'm going to help people. I'm
- 42:10Speaker 2: going to help people. I'm going to help people. Yeah,
- 42:14Speaker 2: it's he is a beautiful soul, truly a beautiful soul.
- 42:22Speaker 2: I want to talk about the one.
- 42:27Speaker 1: Chapter that we both were like, dude.
- 42:34Speaker 2: Chapter twenty two. People Chapter twenty.
- 42:36Speaker 1: Two, y'all, And like, I know, We're like, okay, we
- 42:42Speaker 1: should have been focused on the Nameless story the entire time.
- 42:48Speaker 1: It is probably like the one Battle of Iriatu scene where.
- 42:51Speaker 2: I'm like, fuck, yes, dude, fuck this and here's and
- 42:55Speaker 2: here's the thing. This uh, this book reintroduces the Blade,
- 43:01Speaker 2: of course, because he has been a pretty big staple
- 43:07Speaker 2: in Phase three, with him and General Wess going back
- 43:12Speaker 2: and forth ever since the Eye of Darkness. It has
- 43:19Speaker 2: been since the beginning of Phase.
- 43:21Speaker 1: Three Phase two the Blade.
- 43:24Speaker 2: Yes, yes, Phase two the Blade comic was where he
- 43:28Speaker 2: was introduced, but in Phase three he has actually been
- 43:32Speaker 2: a pretty big staple. Yes, And I told you and
- 43:38Speaker 2: and I can finally say it out loud now that
- 43:41Speaker 2: you know, embargo is up, the book is out, and
- 43:43Speaker 2: everything else. I do not believe we are getting that
- 43:50Speaker 2: final comic from.
- 43:51Speaker 1: Charles Saul, the Broken Blade.
- 43:54Speaker 2: I don't believe we're getting the Broken Blade because of
- 43:59Speaker 2: how definite Chapter twenty two felt with how this is
- 44:07Speaker 2: like the end of his story, you know.
- 44:13Speaker 1: But I also feel like the Broken Blade could end
- 44:16Speaker 1: up like between because Siglayne, the leader of this initiative,
- 44:22Speaker 1: has already said like, oh, there's phase more coming in
- 44:27Speaker 1: the Roundtable discussion on Star Wars dot Com. So I
- 44:30Speaker 1: really feel like the Broken Blade could int up where
- 44:33Speaker 1: we have porter between Temptation of the Force and Trials
- 44:41Speaker 1: of the Jedi, because he feels like he's come to
- 44:44Speaker 1: a decision because these has been kind of taunting him
- 44:49Speaker 1: with Barosche's location basically the entirety of their connections in
- 44:55Speaker 1: Phase three. So he could have probably had a come
- 44:59Speaker 1: to Jesus moment in the Broken Blade between the two books. Potentially. Yeah,
- 45:05Speaker 1: this is like my theory where he comes to the
- 45:08Speaker 1: decision and is like, Okay, I'm done. If Barash wants
- 45:11Speaker 1: to find me, Barosh will find me. Yeah, and that's
- 45:14Speaker 1: why he kills Vace in chapter twenty two. But I
- 45:17Speaker 1: tell you, I was in a coffee shop reading this
- 45:21Speaker 1: chapter and I was like, oh my gosh, he's gonna
- 45:24Speaker 1: do it. He's going to do it. And I had
- 45:26Speaker 1: to say from like like.
- 45:28Speaker 2: Yes, I was in my car and I had already
- 45:31Speaker 2: gotten home, and I was like, I'm not turning off
- 45:35Speaker 2: the car, I'm not getting out. I'm listening to the
- 45:39Speaker 2: rest of this chapter. And it's so good the way
- 45:45Speaker 2: that he does it, And like, I think the really
- 45:50Speaker 2: cool thing is like the fact that like Charles sole
- 45:56Speaker 2: knew how to make him badass in a comic book yep, visually,
- 46:02Speaker 2: the idea of the blade literally floating in the air,
- 46:06Speaker 2: all of these other things. But like, my favorite movie
- 46:11Speaker 2: of all time, okay, guys, of all time is A
- 46:17Speaker 2: Princess Bride. That is my favorite movie of all time.
- 46:21Speaker 2: And people don't understand why. There is one reason why
- 46:28Speaker 2: that movie is my favorite of all time. It has
- 46:32Speaker 2: one of the coldest line deliveries in all of cinematic history.
- 46:40Speaker 2: And Nigo Montoya is fighting the six Fingered Man and
- 46:45Speaker 2: he stabs him, he cuts him in the face, he
- 46:46Speaker 2: does all this other stuff. Is like give me everything
- 46:52Speaker 2: I ask for. He's like, yes, anything, anything in all
- 46:55Speaker 2: and he stabs him. He says, I want my father back,
- 46:58Speaker 2: you son of a bitch. Coldest line in all of
- 47:01Speaker 2: cinematic history. And it's amazing. But one of the very
- 47:07Speaker 2: fun parts of The Princess Bride is when a Nigo
- 47:12Speaker 2: Montoya and the Pirate Roberts are sword fighting and he's like, oh,
- 47:21Speaker 2: I know something you don't know, and what is that?
- 47:24Speaker 2: I am not left handed and he switches like this.
- 47:28Speaker 2: There was a moment in chapter twenty two. That was
- 47:33Speaker 2: exactly that the blade. He tells General Vis, Oh, hey,
- 47:40Speaker 2: by the way, you're a bitch, and she's like, what
- 47:46Speaker 2: are you talking about. He's like, I've been holding back.
- 47:49Speaker 2: I have been holding back my entire life. I have
- 47:53Speaker 2: been playing with my food. You are my food, and
- 47:55Speaker 2: I've just been playing with you. And she basically calls
- 47:59Speaker 2: his bluff and he pulls out the second blade that
- 48:02Speaker 2: he has yet to use the entire time in all
- 48:06Speaker 2: of Phase three. He brings out the second blade that
- 48:09Speaker 2: he did use in the comic. You only see it
- 48:13Speaker 2: once in the comic.
- 48:15Speaker 1: Oh, I forgot about that.
- 48:18Speaker 2: He pulls it out, and he doesn't even use it.
- 48:23Speaker 2: He pulls it out. That's the best part. Like it
- 48:27Speaker 2: didn't dawn on me until like three days after I
- 48:31Speaker 2: had finished that chapter. He he's like, I've never used
- 48:38Speaker 2: my second blade, and like she starts to like look
- 48:42Speaker 2: all like fearful and like, holy crap, like maybe this
- 48:46Speaker 2: is true. He puts it away. The entire fight read
- 48:50Speaker 2: it again, he does not use the second blade.
- 48:52Speaker 1: I'm to go back again.
- 48:54Speaker 2: I am pretty sure he does not use the second blade,
- 48:58Speaker 2: which is absolutely amazing.
- 49:01Speaker 1: And we're about to jump into our third ad, y'all.
- 49:05Speaker 1: We promise we'll be right back. We promise.
- 49:10Speaker 2: I love it. He is such a badass.
- 49:15Speaker 1: And again, oh, totally unrelated, by the way, but we
- 49:18Speaker 1: said Sarah was with them. It's Terrek who's in there?
- 49:22Speaker 2: Terrek? Yeah, yeah, sorry.
- 49:24Speaker 1: I had to make sure we were crediting the right twin.
- 49:27Speaker 2: But the coldest line delivery on this chapter was at
- 49:32Speaker 2: the very literally the very last word spoken of this
- 49:35Speaker 2: chapter is uh, general Vice sells the blade because of
- 49:44Speaker 2: course she's trying to just survive this entire fight, like, oh,
- 49:48Speaker 2: like I know where Barash is. I know where bar is,
- 49:52Speaker 2: and like she knows she's gonna lose. She knows she's
- 49:55Speaker 2: gonna lose. He literally has his life saber turned off,
- 50:02Speaker 2: floating in the air, literally right in front of her eye,
- 50:06Speaker 2: and so she's just getting so pissed off. And she
- 50:09Speaker 2: finally says, Barash is dead, that's where she is. And
- 50:14Speaker 2: he's like, he's in the dirt. Yeah, she's in the dirt.
- 50:17Speaker 2: And he says, well, then tell her hello, and then
- 50:20Speaker 2: he turns on the lightsaber.
- 50:26Speaker 1: He does not use it. He does not use it.
- 50:30Speaker 2: It's insane.
- 50:34Speaker 1: It's so good. Probably my favorite chapter.
- 50:40Speaker 2: Oh no, it is. As of right now, it is
- 50:47Speaker 2: the best written chapter in all of Star Wars. I
- 50:52Speaker 2: have I have not read the Revenge of the Sith
- 50:58Speaker 2: that everybody says is literally the best Star Wars book
- 51:02Speaker 2: ever written. I like, guys, you have to remember, out
- 51:08Speaker 2: of the two of us, I am the newbie. Every
- 51:12Speaker 2: new book is like my favorite book, right Like every
- 51:16Speaker 2: like it is like it's it's just something that is
- 51:19Speaker 2: always consuming, and there's some things that I'm like, ah,
- 51:22Speaker 2: you know, maybe this one didn't really hit as hard
- 51:24Speaker 2: as the other one did, or like, oh you know,
- 51:26Speaker 2: there are some things here and something's there. This one
- 51:30Speaker 2: chapter it is so good. It's so good like it
- 51:39Speaker 2: it is like for for for people who are fans
- 51:46Speaker 2: of other things outside of just Star Wars.
- 51:49Speaker 1: This is.
- 51:52Speaker 2: Captain America using mule Nir. This is uh Goku going
- 51:59Speaker 2: Super Saiyan for the first time. This is like, there
- 52:01Speaker 2: is just so much in this, not just for like
- 52:07Speaker 2: the choreography, which Charles Soul does wonderfully through just words,
- 52:14Speaker 2: but like also the actual dialogue back and forth between
- 52:20Speaker 2: two people that so like hate each other so much.
- 52:25Speaker 2: I love because again, guys, like we are in a
- 52:30Speaker 2: time in the Star Wars galaxy where to be a
- 52:36Speaker 2: Jedi is like you're starting to see this is where
- 52:46Speaker 2: the puddles are starting to get a little murky for
- 52:49Speaker 2: what what it is to be a Jedi, And so
- 52:55Speaker 2: like the Blade in his like internal dialogue, it's it's like, well,
- 53:01Speaker 2: if I have to kill her, then I have to
- 53:03Speaker 2: kill her, and it's not about revenge and it's not
- 53:06Speaker 2: about this. Katie's house is haunted or something.
- 53:11Speaker 1: I just heard, thought her, So we may if I
- 53:14Speaker 1: go away, guys.
- 53:16Speaker 2: Oh yeah, well we'll wrap up in the next like
- 53:19Speaker 2: twenty minutes or so. Well hopefully that'll be quick enough.
- 53:23Speaker 2: But like, like just the dialogue along with the choreography,
- 53:28Speaker 2: like Charles Soul did an amazing job with chapter twenty two, guys,
- 53:32Speaker 2: like again, quite possibly the best chapter written in all
- 53:38Speaker 2: of Star Wars. Katie, can you kind of lead us
- 53:46Speaker 2: in with your thoughts on Marcion rope, how we get
- 53:55Speaker 2: to Planet X, and how we are kind of getting
- 53:58Speaker 2: towards the end of this story.
- 54:01Speaker 1: Okay, I'm gonna call it audible because Matt is like
- 54:08Speaker 1: certain we're gonna lose power. I need to talk about
- 54:12Speaker 1: Avar and Elsar. I think that their arc is that. Okay, sorry,
- 54:20Speaker 1: because this is more important to me than Marcian at
- 54:22Speaker 1: this point. Sorry spoiler alert.
- 54:25Speaker 2: It's all good, it's all good. It's all good.
- 54:28Speaker 1: So I think Avar in Elsar's arc over phase three
- 54:33Speaker 1: has been so good and it hits all those tropes
- 54:39Speaker 1: as April meant lover that I want And I know
- 54:45Speaker 1: you say that, but like Katie, they end up apart
- 54:50Speaker 1: on Planet X for the rest of their lives. But
- 54:54Speaker 1: like that's like the third and fourth time I cried
- 54:57Speaker 1: in this book.
- 54:58Speaker 2: Okay, here's here's the wild questions that I have. No, no, no, no, no.
- 55:02Speaker 2: This is something that I've literally been thinking of. Okay,
- 55:07Speaker 2: what if they're not dead?
- 55:10Speaker 1: Like time doesn't pass.
- 55:14Speaker 2: With it being on the planet, with it being such
- 55:17Speaker 2: a like force nexus.
- 55:23Speaker 1: Clay, Oh, I didn't even think about.
- 55:26Speaker 2: That, because like we also have a moment. We also
- 55:30Speaker 2: have a moment where like there's like a force echo
- 55:35Speaker 2: that Looton talks to like and stuff, like.
- 55:42Speaker 1: I thought about that with the Elser vision he had
- 55:48Speaker 1: talked to Oh my gosh, what if they are still alive?
- 55:54Speaker 2: If they are and the and the thing that got
- 55:59Speaker 2: me thinking that was there is a moment guys in
- 56:08Speaker 2: this book where Avar and Lsar basically do the same
- 56:17Speaker 2: thing that uh Ray does on Uh your power is
- 56:25Speaker 2: gonna go out and we're gonna have to record the
- 56:27Speaker 2: back half of this later.
- 56:32Speaker 1: But like, uh, this is this is my grade right now.
- 56:37Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, that's all red.
- 56:39Speaker 1: Okay, let's try and finish this topic.
- 56:41Speaker 2: Okay, okay, okay, okay. So uh they go into like
- 56:45Speaker 2: this like nothingness. This is literally the dark side of
- 56:48Speaker 2: the planet. Literally not just like it being dark, but
- 56:52Speaker 2: literally the dark side of the force. And this is
- 56:56Speaker 2: where we meet the like actual aimless which surprise, surprise,
- 57:03Speaker 2: their name is really shri Kharai.
- 57:06Speaker 1: Like, which I was like, dude, really, I I.
- 57:10Speaker 2: Was like, eh, whatever, Like it's it's I feel like
- 57:14Speaker 2: it makes the most sense with like the little nursery
- 57:17Speaker 2: rhyme that everybody like talks about and everything else. So
- 57:22Speaker 2: but they're sentient. They talk like this, this is like
- 57:29Speaker 2: one step closer to like the Bindu, Like this is it.
- 57:36Speaker 2: Like I was so excited for this moment. I was like, oh,
- 57:41Speaker 2: like this is legit. But there is a conclusion of
- 57:48Speaker 2: or a realization between both Lzar and a bar Hey
- 57:54Speaker 2: You're the light side of the force and I'm the
- 57:55Speaker 2: dark side of the force. You have to be here
- 57:59Speaker 2: and be the light the dark, and I have to
- 58:01Speaker 2: see the dark and light.
- 58:03Speaker 1: Basically, the nameless eat like external force. So if the
- 58:09Speaker 1: light side starts to get too strong, the Shrieker Ride
- 58:13Speaker 1: eat it, and the if it's the same thing on
- 58:17Speaker 1: the dark side. So because there's all the nameless, the
- 58:21Speaker 1: Shrieker Eye have been taken off the planet. The balance
- 58:24Speaker 1: has been overwhelmed, and so that's why the blight is happening.
- 58:28Speaker 1: That's why the nameless need to be returned to the planet,
- 58:31Speaker 1: and so somebody has to stick with that balance. The
- 58:34Speaker 1: thing is, guys, every time a Shrieker Ride dies, a
- 58:39Speaker 1: new egg is hatched, a new egg appears in the
- 58:42Speaker 1: home of the Shrieker Ride. The thing is, they don't always.
- 58:47Speaker 2: Hatch, and the eggs do not like come about for
- 58:55Speaker 2: like generations. So like that's why they're having to stay
- 58:59Speaker 2: there for so long.
- 59:02Speaker 1: And literally, Avar is stuck on the dark side, and
- 59:05Speaker 1: Elsar is the one who has to tell the group bye,
- 59:09Speaker 1: like we will never see you again, Like you.
- 59:12Speaker 2: The last time you saw Avar was literally the last time,
- 59:15Speaker 2: because she's already gone. Like yeah, it's it's so intense
- 59:20Speaker 2: and so insane, and there is quite possibly, like an
- 59:26Speaker 2: inkling of a chance that they are still alive, Like
- 59:31Speaker 2: it's just a theory, but I think it's a possibility,
- 59:35Speaker 2: like if if Charles Soul or whoever's in charge to
- 59:39Speaker 2: make it happen, Like I feel like you could literally
- 59:41Speaker 2: write that and it would make a lot of sense.
- 59:46Speaker 2: But our group is actually.
- 59:48Speaker 1: Because the epilogue makes me sad too, Like that was
- 59:52Speaker 1: another time I cried.
- 59:54Speaker 2: The uh, the group is actually split up. Avar and
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: Alzar go to this whole dark side of the planet Wreath,
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: Tie and Aslin go, you know, chasing nameless and then.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: Breathe and Tie go chasing nameless or.
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: Yeah, and then Belle and Bury go to find Mark
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: on which there is a stowaway on the ship being Charles. Okay,
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: Charles Soul. He almost he almost killed her, he.
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: Did, but he didn't because you can't kill the dog.
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: Everybody knows you can't kill the dog.
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: You can't kill the dog. But there is legitimately like
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: a moment where I'm like, you're literally gonna roast this
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: dog from the inside out and I'm gonna throw this
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: book in the track.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: That hurts so much. I couldn't Yes.
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: I couldn't breathe. It was so intense and terrifying. But
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: like I felt like that fight was really fun and
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: really good, but like it's kind of where I had
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: this moment of like, oh, Okay, this is where the
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: cliff is. This is where like everything just ends, like
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: the fight between Bell and Marcy on like it's powerful
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: and like there's even a moment where like time feels
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: like it's slowing down and he sees loadin.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: Which I loved getting loaded back.
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: I think it was actually his force ghost. I don't
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: think it was Yeah, I don't think it was just
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: him like seeing things. I think it was loaded I
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: I could you know. At first, I was like, oh,
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: this is kind of bullshit with like Mark being as
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: fast as Bell, but like he's not like for sensitive,
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: like I like, I kind.
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: Of I think that's in the every species though.
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, that's why I chalked it up to the
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: second time. I was I was really like thinking about it.
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, because and I think Marcian Mark is just
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: kind of losing his brain a little bit like mad Creaker.
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: Because he chooses to take down the storm wall himself, like.
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: Not only yeah, well, like the the only way to
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: break the storm wall is to destroy the gaze Electric
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: And he literally is on Planet X the gaze Electric
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: is right above him, and he's like, hey, guys, what's up.
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: And then he like presses a button and it explodes,
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: and it's just like oh uh okay, yeah he is creak.
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: Sorry, go ahead.
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: Well, like just the idea, like it goes from oh,
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: I want to be king of the galaxy to I
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: literally want everything in existence to literally die in an instant,
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: like he he like, we literally see that transition in
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: one chapter.
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: It's kind of scary, yeah, because he goes from the
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: conversation with Leno where he's like, I will save the galaxy.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: I will fight the blight. I will turn it back around.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: And Lena is like, Nabra, we got this, Like Elzar
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: has come to her and just told her, hey, we
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: have a mission, and so Lena is like, okay, I
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: will have faith. And so at that point with his
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: conversation with Gira, he goes, Okay, you know what, We're
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: just gonna destroy everything, like and that's what he does
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: because he literally that's where the echostone that Wreath and
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: Comac find comes into play, is because Marcia Marcion goes,
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: hey die and he holds his staff up and says
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: to die, and all of the nameless start attacking each other.
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: And Asln goes off with the Stone and has to
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: be the dark side of the force combined with Wreath
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: and Tie to get everybody to live, to create that balance,
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: because that's what it needed to overcome. Marcion is, hey,
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: we need balance, we need light, Like, yeah, bring it back.
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: And so those three are like live, live, and the
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: Nameless stop killing each other, but the damage is done,
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: which is where we end up with a bar and
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: els Are. Yeah, And even if that hadn't up happened,
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: guys Avar and els Are still would have been so
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: stuck there, like because the damage was done because the
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: Nihil and even going back to phase two, the path
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: of the open hands, closed fist, whatever you want to
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: call him, took dozens of eggs off at that point,
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: and the Nihil came back into the exact same thing,
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: except they took way more because they had way more people.
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: Yeah, because it was it was even discussed that like,
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: oh we've we've secured a dozen nameless and then mark
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: Ian was like, if they have a dozen, then I
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: have a dozen dozen. So it's like, holy crap, Like yep,
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: he took a lot. Speaking of Asla, this is where
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: we're really getting to the the end of the story.
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: Aslin has a little voice of his own, and he
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: even he even like he legitimately talks to this voice.
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: He's like, oh, you're just the fear like Golm. It
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: basically is like this, like but like in a weird way,
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: Charles Soul gave like a voice to the actual dark
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: side of the Force, and I love it because Aslyn
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: basically says, guys, I'm not strong enough. I'm sorry, and dips.
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: He runs away. He does not stick with wreath. He's like,
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: you know, there there's still so much more that is
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: like that needs to be taken care of. You know,
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: it doesn't matter what we do on this planet. There's
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: still so much more horrific stuff out there. And he
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: leaps and we don't see him again because like every
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: buddy is there with Elsar man telling him, like Elsar
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: is telling them, oh, hey, we have to stay here,
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: blah blah blah. You guys go and then all of
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: a sudden, they look up because they hear a ship,
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: and Aslin just freaking flies off.
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: Aslan found barnap is Bim's shit.
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: Yeah, which I think is awesome.
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: Yes, and he found the lightsaber too.
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: Yes, And that's what I want to talk about. Okay,
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: this is what literally rewrote my brain chemistry on how
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: I think about Star Wars because in the epilogue, or
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: I don't know if it's in the epilogue, but in
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: the last chapter, chapter forty, in chapter forty, we get
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: this explanation of him looking at the lightsaber, dismantling the lightsaber,
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: grasping the kyber crystal and bleed.
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: He hurt my soul.
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: He turns the lightsaber red and like the very last
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: words of the chapter is although he couldn't see it,
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: he knew that the lightsaber was read Katie, I have
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: two points that I want to talk about, two questions
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: because if it's not one, it's the other, and if
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: it's not either, it could still lead up to a
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: lot of fun stuff. Do you think Aslam trains plagis
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: at this point?
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: Yes, because I feel like and I could not find
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: the interview on this, but I feel like when we
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: first started the Higher Public, probably like right around the
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: end of phase one, they talked about how the Sith
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: would be reborn and like we would tie in eventually
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: into the greater universe of the Skywalker Shado.
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: I feel like that was a thing. I feel like
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: they've made a point to say, like, oh, we will
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: see like and of course, like the Acolyte was also
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: like advertised of like, oh, this is like the rebirth
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: of the Sith and everything else. So like I get
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: where that connection is going because either I was gonna say,
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: does Aslin train Plaguist? Or is Aslin the like conduit
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: to all of what eventually happens in Shadow of the Sith.
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: That's what I'm wondering. I texted you today and was like,
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: what if Aslan is mentioned in Master of Evil? Because
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: Aslin has found the secret to extending his life, which
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: is what Anakin was after, which is what we know
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: the summary for Master of Evil is after m hm, it's.
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: Gotta be a thing I and I said, it would
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: be a dream come true, like to to legitimate, legitimate life,
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: legitimize I can't speak tonight, guys, to legitimize the High
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: Republic in such a way to either mention Aslan or
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: to have a moment with Aslin a Llah that of
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: the same kind of thing that happened in the Jedi
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: Academy books where uh, that Sith Lord was stuck in
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: like the temple, like his essence was stuck in the temple.
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: What if there there came a point where Aslen's body
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: literally became so old that he couldn't live in his body,
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: so he like just living in like some other capacity,
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: and Darth Vader talks to him that way.
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I totally see it. I'm so excited for
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: Master b now exactly like I didn't really think I
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: was going to be because we've talked about this Vader
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: too much, Vader, But now I'm like, dude, give me.
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: Now with with the with the possibility of like Aslan
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: being the legitimate, legitimate rebirth of the Sith because remember, guys,
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: the Sith were mentioned in the High Republic two to
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: three times actually yep. But for Aslin to bleed his lightsaber,
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: to willingly do this, this is his overall immediate fall
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: to the dark side. Because even in the book itself,
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: we have moments whereasm is like because because re Theven
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: asks him, like, Oh, is there any way that you'll,
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: you know, come back to the Light Side after all
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: of this is done. He's like, oh, you know, maybe,
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: but you know, you know, after we get done here,
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: there's so many more nameless that that Markon has out
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: in the galaxy. You know, I don't think our work
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: will ever be done. And so there's like there he's
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: kind of playing this little teeter totter thing, but by
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: the end that is a stamp of approval Dark Side,
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: like there is no going back.
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: What do you think of Wreath taking off to go
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: find Aslin.
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: I?
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: He does not become the great archivist of the Jedi Order.
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: He goes and searches for for as I.
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: So legitimately I could see there being a story of Wreath,
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: like it's his last obsession. Like he's gone through so
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: much of this science and like being bookish and all
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: of this other stuff, and he's like, okay, like there's
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: nothing else for me to do with the temple. Maybe
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: Aslin is still out there. Maybe I've reached I've I've
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: you know, we came close once to getting him back.
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: Maybe I can do one last.
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: Thing, and this should be our final ad break, So y'all,
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: thanks for bearing with us. We appreciate y'all. We'll be
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: right back. So in Legends, there was a Jedi who
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: was like, oh, the Siths are around, the Sith still exist.
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: And I can't remember if this came into canon or not.
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: What if that ends up being wreathed. What if he
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: doesn't just disappear off into the ether as a way
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: seeker to go find Aslan. What if he continues to
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: return and like you said, this is his obsession and
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: he's like, the Sith are here, as Lin restarted the
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: Syth and they're like, nah, there's no way, like and
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: that just CHERI.
- 1:14:44Speaker 4: I think it could work, especially it's especially when you
- 1:14:51Speaker 4: think of Count Dooku's friend Psychodeas.
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: Yeah, and Siphodius was the apprentice to somebody who with
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: big into history and like salvaging it and finding all
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: those things. So if it led all the way down.
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: The only thing that gets a little muddled is of course,
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: like the things that happened in the Acolyte and and
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: things like that. But like also I think unfortunately Star
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: Wars has kind of teetered away from like the Bane trilogy,
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: like they like that is still technically not canon, like correct, yes,
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: Bane to this point, correct me if I'm wrong. Bane
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: to this point is not Cannon. There is, there was, exists.
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: The trilogy is not Cannon.
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: So he has been mentioned before, Yes, in.
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: Clone Wars in season six of Clone Wars. Okay, that
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: was the trilogy I was thinking of, because there's a
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: Jedi there who's like, you're right, that's what I was
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: thinking of.
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: Yeah, and so and and that's the thing, right, Like
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: we know that because of the Baine trilogy, the Sith
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: were eight people. It was not the rule of two.
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: Bain created the rule of two mm hm. So like
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: there can still be And that's why, Like I always
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: think it's funny that like Travis is like, oh, you know,
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: f this, there's actually like there's not just two Sith
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: blah blah blah. And that's totally true. There's an entire
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: galaxy out there. There could be plenty of Dark Side
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: users that could all be having the same thought of like,
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: oh I'm gonna be the Sith lord. Oh I'm gonna
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: be you know, the beginning in the end of the Sith,
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: you know whatever. So like I I would like for uh,
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: the Masters of Evil, right, is that what it's called. Yeah,
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: I would like the Masters of Evil two somehow be
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: our starting point to really have the building blocks for
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: the Sith in the Star Wars timeline, Yeah, because there
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: there has like there is a history, but there is
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: not a history, like yeah, like I want something more solid.
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: They talk about the Sith War, but nothing is like there.
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: It's like, hey, this is his tree point, but there's
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: no date on it. There's nothing. So you could realistically
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: start it up right here. You go, Okay, yes, we're good.
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: I totally think that's reasonable. Totally think it's.
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: Now the ending, the ending of this book, everybody goes
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: back to Coruscant. The book literally goes from everybody's on
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: planet X to the next to literally the next chapter
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: saying a couple of weeks later, and you're like, you're like,
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: what the fuck? Like are you kidding me? Like I
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: was so like I was so mad because it was
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: it was like six point thirty in the morning, I
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: was driving to work, and all of a sudden, I
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: hear freaking Mark Thompson's voice. A couple of weeks later,
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: I'm like, what what do you mean? A couple of
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: weeks later, you can't just like leave a gap, like
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: what are you talking about? So it immediately goes from
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: there to oh yeah, so mark On is on trial.
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: Yeah okay. Then it goes to Giristarus and her icky.
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: Oh this is how I survive.
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I hated it. Oh like I's like, it's like, oh,
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: I just I want you to just like you deserve
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: as much as markyng got because you were literally right
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: there by his side and you Oh it was so gross.
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: But what I love about this moment is she he
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: is so freaking self centered. She is like, oh, like me,
- 1:20:04Speaker 2: me me, me, me me me. Oh no, Marcian's gonna
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: see He's gonna see me at this trial. Oh my gosh,
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: Marcion's looking right at me, and then he looks at
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: everywhere else. He didn't even acknowledge her, which I love
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: because throughout this entire book, throughout this entire phase of
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: the High Republic, he's always just used her. He doesn't care.
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: And I'm sorry if this is a little graphic, but
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: he just wanted some poutang every once in a while,
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: like like like he he was just like when he
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: needed a sweet talker, He's sweet talker. Oh, when he
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: needed to insult her. He insulted her like it was
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: just like he was playing a fiddle and that's all
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: he was doing. And like, I'm really curious, and I
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: don't need a comic and I don't need like a
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: like maybe a novella like I have. I don't as
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: far as I know, I don't think Star Wars does novellas,
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: but I would kind of like a novella of just
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: the market on trial, like kind of extended a little bit,
- 1:21:25Speaker 2: because like the people of course on even like we're like, oh, well,
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: the Jedi tell us that you were going to literally
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: destroy everything in existence. We need known planet on an
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: unknown planet. We don't know how legitimate that accusation is,
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: but we're going to punish you to the full extent.
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: Like it's very like it's like huh, like like you
- 1:21:58Speaker 2: don't know if it's true, but just in case it
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: is kind of true, you're gonna okay whatever. Like it
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: was just very weird, and so I feel like I
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: think I would be okay with a novella to kind
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: of extend that conversation a little bit.
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: More so, to answer your question, Star Wars has done
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: novellas before, especially in legends.
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: Uh, Okay, there is one.
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: It's basically a short story compilation and it was related
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: to the last Jedi of publication. So it was four
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: stories on cantoon.
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: Okay, okay, So that was.
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: The last time I think that a novella kind of
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: has been done.
- 1:22:46Speaker 2: Okay. But Marcon, you know, he he he does have
- 1:22:52Speaker 2: like one last moment of just like you all are
- 1:22:55Speaker 2: nothing right.
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: And that's his punishment. He gets to be with nobody.
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: Which is so I I told this to a friend
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: of mine. A friend of mine is just finishing up
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: uh Path of Vengeance. He's about to interphase three, and
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: he's like, hey, without spoiling anything, like can you can
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: you tell me more? And I was like, Okay, I'm
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: just gonna tell you this Marcion's ending. I kind of
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: felt like, wow, you're kind of pathetic Marcion, like like
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: there's like this like this this big man, because he
- 1:23:39Speaker 2: even says in this book he tells his like his
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: like guard that he ended up he ends up like
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: killing mm hmmm. He says, there is nowhere I can
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: go without somebody knowing my name.
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: I am the most important person in this galaxy because
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: I have all the cards, right, so he is this
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: big thing, he's this big scary thing in this galaxy,
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: and then he dies all alone, well not really alone,
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: not really alone, right, because there's like and I love
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: this too, because again, like in his last moments, there's
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: like a drop of humanity and then he dies because
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: he tries to escape. He there's been actual times where
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: he tries to escape and like they're like, nah, you're
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: staying here. You're staying here. They catch him every single time.
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: One time that he tried to escape, he actually malfunctioned
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: the droids and then he was truly all alone, and
- 1:24:52Speaker 2: he actually felt bad, Like he tried to fix all
- 1:24:56Speaker 2: the droids and he fixed all of them except for one.
- 1:25:00Speaker 2: It hurt him that he couldn't get that one.
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: But he felt so bad for himself because that like
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: these are the only people he could talk to.
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: They don't talk back. And that was the thing that
- 1:25:11Speaker 2: was like I love the literal ounce of humanity and
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: like maybe the last year of his life, like you know,
- 1:25:23Speaker 2: and it's like, wow, you're dead, okay, Like that's the end.
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: That's Felicia.
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: And that's how it ends. Guys, Like again, makes me
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: want to punch the little Green dude so freaking hard.
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: But there's even a moment here where Yoda's like, hey,
- 1:25:48Speaker 2: so uh, maybe we need to keep this on the
- 1:25:52Speaker 2: down low.
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: Which the Shrieker I told him to keep it on
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: the down low.
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: Yes, yes, but like not even in like the forbidden
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: section of the library, you know, like one of those
- 1:26:05Speaker 2: moments type of things.
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: Right, Like, and I do like how Charles articulated, hey,
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: even the most powerful of us make mistakes kind of
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: thing like, if we hadn't have kept the secrets from
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: the Phase two era, maybe we wouldn't have ended up
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: as big a mess as we are kind of thing
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: like he does reflect on not to an extent, and
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: it just goes to show like everybody's not every not
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: even the most powerful Jedi is not infallible. Like people
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: are going to make mistakes and the important part is
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: that you can recognize and recover. At this point, Yoda's
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: making the decision to continue to keep this a secret
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: because he's been asked to by somebody else. Yeah yeah,
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: like so this isn't like a oh yeah, like I'm
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: just gonna keep this secret now.
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: Yeah. So so they they did. They did not write
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: themselves into a corner. I will say that they wrote
- 1:27:14Speaker 2: it in a fashion where it's like, oh, you want
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: to know why no other Jedi has ever heard of this?
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: Because of this, I think like some people may call
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: that lazy writing, to be like, oh, you know you
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: you write this all encompassing thing and it's just like
- 1:27:29Speaker 2: a get out of jail free card. No, like the
- 1:27:33Speaker 2: the implications of everything that happened to get this result
- 1:27:41Speaker 2: in Like, hey, like if we want to say galaxy,
- 1:27:44Speaker 2: we have to do this. I feel like that's legitimate enough,
- 1:27:48Speaker 2: you know, so I am not upset at that whatsoever.
- 1:27:57Speaker 2: Out of all of this, I will say, uh, and
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: and I guess this is this is where I can
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: bring up the quote that Katie shared with us at
- 1:28:12Speaker 2: the end of last week or even like the end
- 1:28:16Speaker 2: of or the beginning of last week. Somebody, uh oh, no,
- 1:28:23Speaker 2: not just anybody. This was Michael Siglaine himself said this.
- 1:28:30Speaker 2: He said, no, it is absolutely not the last time
- 1:28:35Speaker 2: you'll see the High Republic era. It's the end of
- 1:28:38Speaker 2: this particular story, but it's definitely not the end of
- 1:28:42Speaker 2: the era, and we absolutely have plans for other stories.
- 1:28:46Speaker 2: I wouldn't say it's phase four, but you could say
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: it's sort of phase more than it's I can't say
- 1:28:57Speaker 2: much more than that at the moment, but it's definitely
- 1:29:00Speaker 2: not the end. It's the end of the beginning and this.
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: Should be our final ad break. So y'all, thanks for
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: bearing with us. We appreciate y'all. We'll be right back.
- 1:29:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: See, for me, I feel like it's kind of like
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: what we talked about, this was the Skywalker saga of
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: the Higher Republic era. Yes, now other authors, like they'll
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: probably take a little bit of a break from this
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: era just to kind of let it breathe, let this
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: saga stand on its own for a little bit. But
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: now after a little bit, they'll have other authors come
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: in and go, Okay, we're gonna fill in this. We're
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: gonna fill in that. Like I want to expand out
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: and go into the one hundred and fifty year gap
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: era kind of thing. Like I think that's totally reasonable,
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: but I would like to see this era breathe, kind
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: of like what they're doing with the sequel trilogy. We're
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: gonna talk about this tomorrow, but like we've got a
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: comic announcement for like hun wanting to find the Falcon
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: right before the Force awakens. So like they've let that
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: era breathe and they're like, Okay, now we can start
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: filling it in now that we kind of have a
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: grasp on how people understand things, and go, okay, what
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: do you want to tackle? I think that's a perfectly
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: reasonable thing to do in storytelling.
- 1:30:24Speaker 2: Yeah, you know it was. I want to say. One
- 1:30:30Speaker 2: of our heaviest book review years was three, I want
- 1:30:41Speaker 2: to say, and we had things like Brotherhood. We had
- 1:30:53Speaker 2: the Red Blade, we had Shadow of Sith, Shadows of
- 1:30:59Speaker 2: the Sith.
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: We had.
- 1:31:03Speaker 2: What was the other one, the Clone Wars Stories or
- 1:31:08Speaker 2: another Clone War stories? It was the stories of the
- 1:31:15Speaker 2: stories of Jedi and Sith. Yeah, like we had that,
- 1:31:19Speaker 2: we had what else did we have that year? That
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: might have been it? But like even you look at
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: those books, just those within itself. You have one that
- 1:31:34Speaker 2: is right after Order sixty six, you have one that's
- 1:31:38Speaker 2: in the Clone Wars era. You have another one that
- 1:31:44Speaker 2: was an anthology of all the eras, right, and.
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: You had Queen's Queen's Hope as well.
- 1:31:53Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, ms well as Princess and the Scoundrel Yeah right, yeah,
- 1:32:01Speaker 2: we believe that. Yeah, So like you.
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: Got spoiled in twenty three.
- 1:32:06Speaker 2: We we got so spoiled. But even when you look
- 1:32:09Speaker 2: at that that is in the span of the Skywalker saga,
- 1:32:14Speaker 2: it's kind of placed everywhere.
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: Yep.
- 1:32:17Speaker 2: You can have that kind of year with the High
- 1:32:21Speaker 2: Republic now, Yeah, And I think that's gonna be really
- 1:32:24Speaker 2: really fun because like we could and we could realistically
- 1:32:34Speaker 2: have a Kevmo story before Path of Deceit right, Yep.
- 1:32:39Speaker 2: We could have another story with Aslin. We could have
- 1:32:45Speaker 2: a story with freaking lsar Avar and uh In Stellin
- 1:32:54Speaker 2: when they were younger. Like, there's so many possibilities. I
- 1:33:01Speaker 2: really dig this again. I do personally hope that there
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: will be a year where they just say, hey, we're
- 1:33:13Speaker 2: just gonna focus on the dark side. I think people
- 1:33:19Speaker 2: might think that's a little too doom and gloom and
- 1:33:21Speaker 2: too dark, but like, at the same time, there's just
- 1:33:25Speaker 2: so much that we do not know that I feel
- 1:33:29Speaker 2: like it would be a really fun initiative to be like, hey,
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: this is the dark side initiative. We're just going to
- 1:33:35Speaker 2: talk about the dark side for a little bit. I
- 1:33:38Speaker 2: think I truly think that would be fun, and I
- 1:33:41Speaker 2: think you could still do it in like, if they
- 1:33:46Speaker 2: had the Dark Side initiative, you could do a High
- 1:33:49Speaker 2: Republic story, and you can do a clone to a story,
- 1:33:52Speaker 2: and then you can do the you know, original trilogy
- 1:33:56Speaker 2: stuff like you can expand it in such a broader way. Now. Yeah, yeah, well, Katie,
- 1:34:06Speaker 2: this is honestly, I'll be completely honest with you. This
- 1:34:09Speaker 2: is a lot longer than I thought we were going
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: to talk about.
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: This book, especially with the power outage.
- 1:34:15Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, but I will say this, guys, as the
- 1:34:24Speaker 2: end of the beginning, As Michael said, the High Republic
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: is literally what got me onto this show. I love this.
- 1:34:35Speaker 2: This has been such an amazing ride. It's really fun.
- 1:34:41Speaker 2: Katie has ruined my life with books from for the
- 1:34:45Speaker 2: rest of my life now. But The High Republic has
- 1:34:52Speaker 2: honestly made me even more of a Star Wars fan,
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: and I am glad that it's not over. This twenty
- 1:35:07Speaker 2: five story initiative five books, guys, I never thought in
- 1:35:17Speaker 2: if you were to go back into twenty twenty and say, hey, Clay,
- 1:35:22Speaker 2: you're gonna spend the next five years reading twenty five books,
- 1:35:29Speaker 2: I would several comics, several comics, the whole works. I
- 1:35:34Speaker 2: would have said, shut the fuck up. There's no way
- 1:35:40Speaker 2: in the year twenty twenty I am going to sit
- 1:35:44Speaker 2: down and read twenty five books in the next five years.
- 1:35:50Speaker 2: That's absolutely insane. Guys. This has been the most amazing ride.
- 1:35:58Speaker 2: It genuinely has. It's been so much fun. I like,
- 1:36:07Speaker 2: I don't know, I'm gushing over this just because again,
- 1:36:10Speaker 2: like I I know that even if I were to
- 1:36:15Speaker 2: read Light of the Jedi today, which now that this
- 1:36:18Speaker 2: initiative is over, I am going to be sprinkling in
- 1:36:22Speaker 2: the entire series once again, probably in the next like
- 1:36:28Speaker 2: year and a half, to like read everything again. But
- 1:36:33Speaker 2: from what I can remember, Katie wasn't like too hot
- 1:36:37Speaker 2: on it, like it wasn't like the best books she
- 1:36:39Speaker 2: had ever read. But for me, it was like, holy crap,
- 1:36:42Speaker 2: this is like a new taste of Star Wars, Like
- 1:36:44Speaker 2: I dig this. Now that I've read every Star Wars
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: book that I have read, I'm probably gonna go back
- 1:36:50Speaker 2: to the Light of the Jedi and be like Charles, like,
- 1:36:53Speaker 2: this is no Trials of the Jedi. This, this is
- 1:36:57Speaker 2: no Trials. This this is mediocre stuff, dude, Like I
- 1:37:02Speaker 2: but I'm glad that I've been into it. You know,
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: it's been really really fun.
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: It's been so much fun having you on the grid.
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: I'm so glad you were like, oh, you know what,
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: I'll read it? Like what the heck? Like, I don't
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: know why I would have done if you hadn't said that.
- 1:37:17Speaker 2: It's it's a hard pitch, like especially like for one
- 1:37:22Speaker 2: thing I've I've always been into podcasting. That's that wasn't
- 1:37:26Speaker 2: the hard part. I think the harder sell genuinely was, Hey, Clay,
- 1:37:31Speaker 2: are you willing to buy a book and read a
- 1:37:34Speaker 2: book every three months or so so we could review it?
- 1:37:40Speaker 2: Like I genuinely thought that it was gonna be a
- 1:37:42Speaker 2: little bit harder than it was. I do want to say,
- 1:37:45Speaker 2: even though I think they are the devil now, Audible
- 1:37:50Speaker 2: saved my life with money and everything else. I am
- 1:37:54Speaker 2: in a much better place financially with my job to
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: be able to purchase these books. But yeah, it's it's
- 1:38:04Speaker 2: I will say that if I've learned anything over the
- 1:38:07Speaker 2: last five years, which is absolutely insane to say. By
- 1:38:11Speaker 2: the way, Katie, we've been doing this for so long.
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: I know.
- 1:38:17Speaker 2: If if you guys like secondhand books, half price Libby
- 1:38:25Speaker 2: Library like this, these are the lessons that I have
- 1:38:28Speaker 2: learned over the course of of podcasting with Katie, like,
- 1:38:34Speaker 2: you don't have to go over all those you know,
- 1:38:37Speaker 2: sprayed edges and everything. You don't have to go over
- 1:38:40Speaker 2: the fancy stuff.
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: Dead gorgeous, but you don't need them to reaxactly. I
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: still remind Play sometimes he's like, man, like I need
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: to go donate plasma. Have you looked on Libby?
- 1:38:55Speaker 2: Yeah? So so the audiobook And even if you have
- 1:39:01Speaker 2: to go digital, if you have to go digital for
- 1:39:04Speaker 2: one or two books, like do it. It'll save you
- 1:39:08Speaker 2: some money.
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: I do want to say, while we're talking about where
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: to go find books, I just want to shout out
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: Random House Worlds for sending us every single wok out
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: of this collection once we got started. We really appreciate
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: you guys. It makes our life a heck of a
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: lot easier. Yes, and we've loved working with you guys.
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: Thank you so much. And even Disney Disney did send
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: us a couple of books at the series, So thank
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: you Disney for sending us what did send us. It's
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: always great working with publishers and we look forward to
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: doing this for many years to come.
- 1:39:45Speaker 2: I like, you guys need to understand that one of
- 1:39:48Speaker 2: my core memories from now on is going to be
- 1:39:53Speaker 2: the fact that I read the first five chapters of
- 1:39:57Speaker 2: Path of Deceit the night that my daughter was born, like,
- 1:40:02Speaker 2: like it's and that's because of Disney, Like Disney gave
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: us those books, so like it was just amazing. So
- 1:40:09Speaker 2: we greatly appreciate it. It's gonna be you know, We're
- 1:40:14Speaker 2: not we're not saying this like grand finale, like goodbye,
- 1:40:17Speaker 2: because like, oh yeah, that was the end core memory.
- 1:40:22Speaker 2: We're not We're not saying goodbye to the show or anything.
- 1:40:24Speaker 2: We're just you know, saying, like, this has been really
- 1:40:27Speaker 2: really fun. Uh we you know, after this, we are
- 1:40:30Speaker 2: going to be reviewing the trades of stuff that is
- 1:40:33Speaker 2: still releasing. There's still a schedule to go by, so
- 1:40:37Speaker 2: this is not the end of the High Republic on
- 1:40:40Speaker 2: the show for sure.
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: And we still got our Minock Manner showdown for our
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: Higher Republic bracket now that everything is out.
- 1:40:50Speaker 5: Yeah, we have yet to get that scheduled because we
- 1:40:54Speaker 5: wanted to kind of get past this book, but that
- 1:40:57Speaker 5: will be coming, guys, So I'm very excited for that,
- 1:41:01Speaker 5: especially after this book.
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: So oh yeah, tell us where they can find you.
- 1:41:08Speaker 2: Of course, You can always find me at Fanboy clay
- 1:41:11Speaker 2: on Blue Sky, on Instagram, on TikTok. This month has
- 1:41:18Speaker 2: been kind of hectic, and I haven't been doing a
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: whole lot of reading. I'm actually gonna have to find
- 1:41:27Speaker 2: either I'm hoping Libby lets me borrow Bloodline for a
- 1:41:32Speaker 2: little bit longer because I am not done with that
- 1:41:34Speaker 2: book and it's about to like end on its borrow
- 1:41:38Speaker 2: or whatever, so I need to do that. But yeah,
- 1:41:42Speaker 2: I went from planning like seven books to read this
- 1:41:46Speaker 2: month to like, oh, I think I'm only going to
- 1:41:48Speaker 2: get three, so it's been pretty insane. But yeah, follow
- 1:41:52Speaker 2: me on all of those. I still have Ranger Alliance.
- 1:41:57Speaker 2: Of course, last week was pretty hectic, so we actually
- 1:42:00Speaker 2: had to drop two episodes this week. Next week, we're
- 1:42:05Speaker 2: actually not gonna have any episodes, uh, because Jake is
- 1:42:09Speaker 2: going on to a tournament, uh for the card game
- 1:42:12Speaker 2: that he plays, so he will be out of town
- 1:42:15Speaker 2: and there will be another two episode drop the following
- 1:42:19Speaker 2: week after that. But Katie, what about you, y'all?
