- 0:05SPEAKER_00: What's up, everybody?
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: Welcome to another episode of the bottom line on sports.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: He's Jeremy Pink.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: I'm Jean-Jacques Taylor, and I'm live in a broom closet at the Star at the Cowboys facility.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: Because football season has arrived.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: But nothing we'll take away from the show.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: We want to make sure we get it to.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: And so here we are, me in the broom closet, pink in his lovely studios and uh somewhere just outside New York City.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: And the palatial studios of uh the Dallas Cowboys.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: Very good.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: And the you know how we get down, man.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: Before you subscribe, rate, and review.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Obviously, we need some help, so do that.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: Uh, we like to start every show with a number.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: This week's number is 40.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: What's that mean to you, bro?
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: Means that is the uh jersey number that Von Miller is gonna wear, which he got from a current player on your Dallas Cowboys.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: That's Von Miller's number 40, but there was a fullback on the team whose name I I don't even want to try to pronounce.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: Hunter Lemke.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: Hunter Lempke.
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: He's a star for uh North Dakota State when they were winning all those uh Division I double A championships.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it sounds like an Asian food dish.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: I had I just had some Hunter Lempke.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: Do you want to have some?
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: Uh the but von Miller is speaking of food, Von Miller oftentimes when when a player comes in and wants a jersey number, he's got to pay the other player to get his jersey number.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: That's often, I mean, you know better than anybody.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: That's often player to player.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: That's not it's a it's usually some for us, it would be big money for players.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: It's usually not big money.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: I mean, if you're a superstar and you come in, you might you might drop a hundred grand, because again, if you're making 27 trillion dollars, 100 grand is not that big.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: But and normally to the guy who gets the money, it's like, oh my god, yeah, I'll take 100 grand.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, of course.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: So this is probably this is this would be you know, 100 grand might be a lot of money to Hunter Lemke for all we know.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: But instead of getting, instead of giving the number 40 to Von Miller for money, he gave it to Von Von Miller in exchange for a equity in Von Miller's chicken company called Greener Pastures Chicken.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: That's the industry.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: No, no, hold on.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: And he got equity and he got unlimited chicken.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: Hunter Lemke gets unlimited chicken.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: But see, that was a great move by Hunter because they talked about this this thing went on for like two or three weeks.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: The negotiations.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: Because again, Von Miller wore 40 in college.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: It's in he hadn't worn it in the pros all the time, but it's an important number to him.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: And now that everybody can wear whatever number they want.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: Matter of fact, here's a quick side story.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: He wore 24 in Washington last year.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: Why he was honoring his high school teammate, Corey Borner, who's a good friend of mine, who uh was paralyzed from the chest down as a high school sophomore during a football practice at DeSoto High School.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: They were teammates.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: So Von Miller is from uh Dallas.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: He's from DeSoto.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: He's from he's from uh uh Taylor, Taylor, Taylor U.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's great.
- 3:02SPEAKER_03: I didn't I didn't know that.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: That's great.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: I like that.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh so these negotiations went on, and at first it was I'll get you some tattoos or uh I think I so I guess 100's big in the tattoos because they were talking about I'll put we'll put you under anesthesia so you get that full body tat.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: He said those run about 40 or 50,000.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: And then they were talking about Wait, hold on a second.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: A full body tattoo costs 40 or 50,000.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: I you know, oh yeah, I I've never priced them out.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: I didn't know.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: Well, you know, some of it is if you're doing that, you gotta you can't just go get some fly by night, you gotta do it.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you got you got to commission the artists.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: If you're getting the best yeah artists available, and normally you got three or four or five artists working on you one time, then don't forget, you if you're under anesthesia, you want a professional.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: That's true.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: Professional anesthesiologist, you don't want some fly-by-night guy or woman just say, Hey, I think it's this many milligrams to pull them out and bring them back.
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: That's crazy.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: That's crazy.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: I never even thought about it.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: Um, 40 to 50 grand anesthesia.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: This one only cost about six hundred.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you got you got screwed.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: Um, all right.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I can't even what is it?
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: I don't even know.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: Is that a it's a uh it's a Chinese symbol for love, which is my wife's last name.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: Oh I I verified it four times before I did it because people will lie to you.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: Uh but so I verified it once, even asked an Asian woman uh in a hotel, what's this mean?
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: She said, Oh, love, it's just so sweet.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so so uh so anyway, they were going back and forth on these negotiations, man.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: And then Hunter wanted a little more equity and one and uh Von was like, I mean, the company's doing pretty well.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: That's like several hundred thousand dollars.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: You can't get that.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's great, it's great.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: So they sell on whatever equity percentage it was, and the free chicken, and now Von Miller on Sunday night football against the Giants, DeSoto Zone, 15 minutes south of downtown Dallas, will be rocking number 40.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: Number 40.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: You know what?
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: I looked it up.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: Do you know who some of the other owners of the Greener Pastures Chicken Company are?
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: I didn't know this.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: That damn sure didn't look bad up.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: They're probably all former football aggies.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: Nick Foles.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: Nick Foles, the kicker?
- 5:19SPEAKER_01: Nick Foles, the quarterback for the uh uh former Eagles quarterback.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: Nick Foles, uh, Drew Brees, Patrick Mahomes.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I didn't know it makes sense for me because he grew up in a country uh right outside of Tyler, which is about uh 60 miles uh east of Dallas.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but but but I but I'm telling you, I I I love this deal because this is players taking, first of all, Von Miller's got uh a chicken business, which is right, you know, and and also if you read about it, it's it's a kind of it's it's the regenerative chicken, you know, they're trying to give back so there's no net negative that's happening to the to the environment or the soil or anything.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: So I think that's good.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: You got players who are thinking strategically, not just oh my god, I can get a brand new Rolex.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: Um I love this story.
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: Plus, Von Miller gets to wear 40.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: And and Hunter Lemke is now talked about far more for this than he will be his entire NFL career.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: And now everybody knows he's a football player and not a nation food dish.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: That's true.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: That's true.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: That's bottom line for me, great move by both guys' part.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: One that Von Miller's got a chicken farm, and two, that Hunter Lempke went for the long play, not the short play.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: Bottom line for me, I'm very confident Hunter Lempke can now meet his protein goals.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: Bottom line.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: So let's move on to some very exciting news um this year, this week in the NFL, involving your favorite quarterback.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: Okay, not really.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: But Baker Mayfield.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: The bake show.
- 6:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: This is a very interesting deal to me for a couple reasons.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: Number one, Baker Mayfield gets about$55 million a year, um, which is elite quarterback money.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: Like, he's like the fourth highest paid quarterback in the league right now.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: I don't think he's an elite quarterback, I think he's above average for well, he'll be he'll be that for like another you know year when everybody else's contract comes in, right?
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: So this is this is an anticipatory contract as much as anything else.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: Um you're right, which is why he got a three-year deal, not a five-year extension.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: He got a three-year extension, not a five-year extension.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: Explain, explain.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: I didn't I didn't know that.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: It's it's a three-year extension, so he's tied to them for four more years, but you know, most of the times his quarterbacks get four or five years.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: Oh, I see what you're saying.
- 7:41SPEAKER_01: So he's got four more years left, right?
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: The last three years are are the new money.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Okay, and so that's important.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: But here's the deal, and a good friend of mine says this all the time.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: Um, and it relates back to something he heard back when Warren Moon or somebody was playing.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: So I say Baker Mayfield is an above-average quarterback, and you can make the argument that that's true.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: There's nothing you know wrong about that.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: And you could ask Tampa why would you pay an above-average quarterback like an elite quarterback?
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: And the answer is simply because we don't have a quarterback, right?
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: Like Dak Prescott is not the best quarterback in the league.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: Why has he been paid more than anybody else for the last three or four years?
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: Because Dallas had no replacement.
- 8:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: So or is or is it a very famous line in in military, which is you you go to you go to the war with the army you got, you don't go to the war with the army you want, you know?
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and so is that's happening.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: That's what that's what leverage and performance is all about.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: He performed at the right time, he had the leverage, and so he got the contract that he wanted.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: Uh, it doesn't matter what he deserves it or not, because as we know, you deserve whatever people will pay you.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: If whatever the market says that's what you're worth.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: Now, here's the here's the other interesting part of that.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: So it's interesting to me that he got paid like that when his talent to me is not commensurate with that kind of check.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: The other thing is, what does it do?
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: And and I believe, I believe somebody wrote this something very similar the other day, right after this deal came out.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: What does it do to the other middle class quarterbacks?
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: Because there had been a very clear delineation.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: The elite guys are like between 60 and 50.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: And then you got Geno Smith, you got Baker Mayfield, you got Sam Donald, they're like right around 30, 35.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: Now, of course, any of us would give almost anything to make 35 million dollars a year.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: But in the NFL scale, that means you're you're above average, but you're not great.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: Well, now they just paid the one of the above average guys great money.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: So Sam Donald just won the Super Bowl.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: What do you think Sam Donald's agent did this morning?
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: Soon he woke up.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: Now it doesn't matter whether he gets the deal done or not, right?
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: But you know, he picked up the phone and he told Seattle, hey fellas, do you really think Baker Mayfield's$20 million better than us a year?
- 10:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: What can we do about that?
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: As you know, we are the defending Super Bowl champions.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: Now, now, if you look at it the other way, if you're a team, do you now look around and you say, you know what?
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: I either want a quarterback on a rookie contract, or I want a quarterback who is middle of the pack and above, who I can surround with a lot of talent.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: Those are two of the three scenarios where I may reach a Super Bowl.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: The third one might be paying a quarterback a lot of money.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: Would you, if you're a team, would you want option A, a quarterback on a rookie contract, option B, a proven kind of slightly above average quarterback that you don't have to pay a lot, or C, you got to pay your quarterback lots of money.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: I think those are the three three buckets right now.
- 10:51SPEAKER_01: And the Seahawks, the Seahawks proved last year at least that bucket B works.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: Bucket B works, but it's got a bunch of it's got a bunch of uh what do you call those things?
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: I don't want to say contingencies, but bucket B only works under a certain set of situations.
- 11:09unknown: Right.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: Well Seattle won because it had an elite defense and a great running game, which meant you could have an average quarterback.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: Talented guy who you asked to make one or two plays a game.
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: You're not asking him to be Josh Allen and make every play.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: You know, but if you don't have the defense or the other things that match up with that, which are hard to acquire, yeah, then you just again look at Tampa Bay.
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: They don't have all the other stuff, and so they got they may not have a choice, yeah.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: And so that's always the question.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: I would rather if I had a what I what I thought was a superstar, I'd pay the superstar.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: Uh, because you're asking your quarterback to make plays at winning time in the playoffs to win games.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: Um because I because in in in a game it's essentially boils down to who can make three to five plays in any given game because the the teams are set up.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: Every game's attack.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: Every game.
- 12:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: It doesn't matter what when we're talking about teams that are it doesn't really even matter the teams.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: In every game, there are four or five plays.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: If you make them, you win.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: If you don't, you lose.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: And sometimes the plays you don't remember, they're not always the big touchdowns.
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: It could be a fumble that you it could be we had the ball at the 10-yard line, we fumbled, and you recovered it.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: So we got it, we lost two yards, we continued to drive instead of a turnover.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: Well, that was a huge play.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: A lot of people didn't notice it, but that was a big play, right?
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: You know, it's converting a third and six in the second quarter on the scoring drive.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: By the way, which is why you pay a player like Von Miller, because he makes he makes one or two of those plays a game and it changes the outcome.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: Well, I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna push back just a tad, just a tad.
- 12:55SPEAKER_00: He no longer does that one or two times a game.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: You're hoping Von Miller makes four or five plays this entire season.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: Okay, fair.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: I'm serious, like four or five times.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: But but five, six years ago, you would say he's gonna make a couple plays, one or two plays a game that could change the outcome.
- 13:13SPEAKER_00: You're paying George Dickens and CeeDee Lamb to make one or two plays a game.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: But Von Miller, they I'm gonna I'm gonna go even deeper.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: They didn't even ask him to do, they're asking him to help us.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: We think we're good enough to get to the playoffs.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: When we get to the playoffs, can you make one or two plays in our run to help us get where we're trying to go?
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: And if he makes those, then he was worth whatever they paid him, which is five or six million.
- 13:39SPEAKER_01: As an aside, what's the mood in the building?
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: What's what are people talking about?
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: Cowboys feeling optimistic there.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: Um I mean, cowboys are always optimistic, but this is uh they're more optimistic than usual this year.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: Uh the hike train is off and running, it's uh moving at a pretty rapid clip.
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: And that's because uh for them they had a very active offseason.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: Normally they haven't been very active in free agency is that because they they signed Joe Milton back on the practice squad?
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: Is that why?
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: Nah, it's uh it's uh you know, they've got a new defense.
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: Here's the most interesting stat by the Cowboys.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: I can't remember if I told you.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: Of their top 26 defensive players from the 2025 season, as of last week, 17 of them were no longer on NFL teams.
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: No longer on NFL teams.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 14:31SPEAKER_00: That is why they finished last in league of defense.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: They were literally playing bums on as players on defense.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so this year that's that's a remarkable stat.
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, they swapped a lot of guys out, they got a lot of uh guys with high potential, which is my friend says a French word for you haven't done a damn thing yet.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: Um so uh um so there's a lot of that.
- 14:56SPEAKER_00: You know, the offense is uh returns all the starters, and so there's a lot of optimism in the building.
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: Uh there's always a lot of optimism, usually regarding the Cowboys, but they haven't been to the playoffs in two years.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: Uh they have the longest drop without getting to the NFC Championship game.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: Uh they haven't been since 1995.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: You know, it's so they have a lot of history to overcome if you're a person who believes in all that.
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: I don't really get down with that.
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: I think every time you change coaches and regimes, it's like a new history.
- 15:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: Because you know, Brian Schottnheimer ain't got anything to do with 28 years of not getting there.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: He's only responsible for the last two.
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: Well, what what if you go if you go to tie this back to Baker and Dak Prescott?
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: When Dak Prescott was signed to his deal, I thought the universe was going to collapse because oh my gosh, he's overpaid, and what are they doing?
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: What are they doing?
- 15:47SPEAKER_01: Fast forward to today, Dak Prescott is a top 10 quarterback for sure, if not even higher.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: And he's getting paid a fair salary, and nobody's questioning that.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: So if you look at Baker Mayfield two, three, four years from now, maybe you'll say the same thing about him and what he's getting paid.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: Well, the third, and that's a great segue to the third interesting thing about Baker Mayfield to me, which is he's reinvented his career.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: Like he was the number one pick, so there was all this hoopla.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: Maybe he can bring the Browns a championship.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: Then he he literally became a journeyman.
- 16:22SPEAKER_00: I'm cut, I'm done with the Browns, I'm in Carolina, I'm in the Rams, I'm backing up, I'm just a guy.
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: And then he goes to Tampa Bay, has some success there, and all of a sudden now he's being paid like one of the best quarterbacks in the league.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: Reminds me of Kurt Warner.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: You start with the Rams, you become a backup with the Giants, they almost run you out of town.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: You end up with the Cardinals, you find yourself, you take the Cardinals to the Super Bowl, now you're in the Hall of Fame.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: And so uh Baker Mayfield is been the rare football player who's been able to go from being a star, so to speak, to being a bum, so to speak, to back to having a star.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: He's paid like a star.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: Now they expect him to play like one.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: And uh it'll be interesting to see if he can do that.
- 17:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's always been the issue, which is he plays well, it appears, and again, I don't have the stats on this.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: He plays well when he appear when he when he appears as if he's being slighted.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: He doesn't play as well when when he's not.
- 17:19SPEAKER_01: So we'll say so.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: Paying him might actually uh make his performance worse.
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: You don't know.
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: No, it's uh no, that's a good point.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: I think the only difference is he's played so much football now, the game should slow down for him.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: Like if you can get in 10 leagues, 10 years as a starter or close to it, the game should slow down for you enough where you've seen everything, not just can you perform and execute it?
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: And he should be able to do that.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: Uh, bottom line for me, the Bucs take a chance signing him to big money like this, but I think there's a chance Baker might just make it worth their while.
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: Uh, bottom line for me, I still think Sam Darnold's underpaid.
- 17:58SPEAKER_01: And this just proves that Sam Darnold's underpaid.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: He's uh uh, you know, I still think the Seahawks are gonna have a tremendous year this year.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: Uh and Baker, look, good.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: I'm as as we always say, happy for any player to ultimately get paid.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: I think that's great.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: So happy for Baker.
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: I think he's in such a weak division.
- 18:13SPEAKER_01: Maybe they make the playoffs, but that may be a function of the division, not Baker.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: Uh moving on to another aspect of the NFL, your boy, Roger Goodell, just signed a four-year deal.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: Probably be his last.
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: I think he was making more than 30 million, which sounds like a lot of money, except there's 32 teams.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: No, no, his there's no the last estimate that I saw was he was making, and this was a number of years ago, making in the$60 million range.
- 18:39SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: Well, that's even that's still to me is a whole bunch of money, but it's still like there's 32 teams, so each team kicks in two million dollars for their commission.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: It's loose change for the NFL.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's and but I think he's um whether you are you a Goodell guy?
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: You like Goodell or you don't like Goodell?
- 18:58SPEAKER_01: I I'm actually completely and utterly indifferent toward him, you know.
- 19:01SPEAKER_01: Damn, I am too.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh, but I think in general, he's done a good job because of this.
- 19:09SPEAKER_00: The NFL owners only want to make as much money as humanly possible.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: And boy, he got to give Goodell credit.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: He is he has figured out a way for them to monetize, systematic everything.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: He has, and in the majority, I mean, the the vast trove of cash that's coming in are television rights.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: And so it's no coincidence, I think, that his contract was extended through essentially the beginning of the 2031 season, if I if I recall, yeah, through the 2031 season.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: And the TV deals can be renegotiated at the end of 29 and at the end of 2030.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: So I think this is why he was renewed for that period of time, precisely to your point, because he's had so much success making money and because he's had so much success negotiating TV deals, which is creating all the filling the coffers of all the all the teams.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: You've done this a bit in a lot in your career.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: How hard is it to negotiate a deal for the NFL when you're the golden goose?
- 20:13SPEAKER_01: Well, it's called I've been on the other side of those contracts as well.
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: It's you're it's it's essentially what's what is effectively an asymmetric negotiation because if you have if the NFL goes away, you can't replace the NFL with something else.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: It's either either got the NFL or you don't.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: And the NFL knows that.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: So it just becomes a question of what who's willing to pay what.
- 20:39SPEAKER_01: And it's it's a very hard negotiation.
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: The NFL has NFL holds, you know, most of the NFL holds most of the cards in those in those negotiations.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: Um now I think now here this is interesting to me, which is he's going to make the NFL owners a zillion gabillion dollars.
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: Okay, we know that.
- 20:58SPEAKER_00: That's not going to be his legacy, though.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: His legacy to me, uh, and I'm not sure it's a positive, will ultimately be did he get the NFL to start playing in Europe in these next four years, or did he create that pathway for whatever they're gonna call NFL Europe, where there's a four or sixteen division over there and they figure it all out later?
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: Because I think that's ultimately a disaster.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: I I I think his legacy that's I think his legacy will be threefold.
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: I think it'll be that, I think it'll be the money, and I think it's ultimately gonna be how he handled CTE and the NFL's reaction to it.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: You know, and that part.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and he did, and especially when he's gonna leave in 2030, 2031, and there's gonna be an 18 game schedule by then.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: And that's I think you're right.
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: That might actually, if I think about it, if you say it like that, his legacy might end up being you were you were you were the guy in charge when we heard about all the bad things.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: About CTE, and you didn't know you covered, you didn't do enough to to tell everybody that, oh, there's a real problem that we need to handle.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: You were, you just, you just didn't care enough to make it a true priority.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: It was kind of like a faux priority.
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: Threw some money at it and some other things.
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: But all you have to do is talk to aging veteran players now in their 50s, 60s, 70s, and talk about how hard it is for them to.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: There are some positives, but they talk about how hard it is for them to get anything going.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: Or, you know, a few people have gotten the benefits, but you know, if a if it hasn't been a big enough percentage, there's still a lot of players out there hurting.
- 22:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: It's not, it's not the it's not the the same thing as what companies did about smoking, because that was a much more obvious and direct cover to what they did as you know, smoking and impacting the health.
- 22:53SPEAKER_01: But I think that's what I think when we look back 20, 30 years and we start to learn more about the you just get more information on CTE, more information on the impact.
- 23:03SPEAKER_01: I think the game is going to change a lot over the next 10 to 15 years as we learn more information.
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: And I think it's going to go back to that's right in the middle of Goodell, uh, Goodell's uh uh oversight.
- 23:14SPEAKER_01: And I think that's what his ultimately his legacy.
- 23:18SPEAKER_01: I think the NFL Europe stuff is kind of a a little bit of a sideshow.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: I think the his legacy is gonna be, oh my God, he turned the NFL into a cash juggernaut.
- 23:29SPEAKER_01: At the same time, he didn't do he did not do nearly enough to mitigate the damages of CTE.
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: I think it's gonna be uh bifurcated uh legend.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah the frustrating thing for me as a as a fan of football is that now uh and I obviously I don't have all the paperwork and all the details, but it just seems like the NFL makes so much money that it's not hard to take care of your former players and give them a real package, the real benefits, the real whatever they need, and everybody can still be filthy rich.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: You know, I mean, there's nothing that's going to change any anybody's lifestyle, whether it's an owner or whatever, if you threw 300 million or whatever it is at at you know a group of people to make their lives better.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, or or or you said X percentage of any new TV deal that we that the NFL negotiates, x percentage is going to go to either you know CTE research or player benefits or or something like that.
- 24:30SPEAKER_01: It wouldn't surprise me if there was something like I again I don't have I'm not privy to the the details of a negotiation, but that would be a smart move.
- 24:38SPEAKER_01: A it would be a smart move just in general, and B, it would be a very smart public relations move for uh for the commissioner and for the for the owners.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: No, I think so.
- 24:48SPEAKER_00: Uh I don't think it'll happen, but I I'd love to see it happen.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: Neither do I.
- 24:53SPEAKER_00: Um now we've often talked about this.
- 24:55SPEAKER_00: Um, and now that the NFL, and this is a good time to break it up.
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: NFL starts its season Wednesday.
- 25:00SPEAKER_00: Uh who's it?
- 25:01SPEAKER_00: Seattle, New England.
- 25:03SPEAKER_01: It's we are actually taping it tonight.
- 25:05SPEAKER_01: Jacques, today is Wednesday.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: We're taping before the season opens.
- 25:09SPEAKER_00: I've been working so hard, I forgot today was Wednesday.
- 25:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: Uh so I'm that's what happened.
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: That's what happens when you're in a closet in the Cowboys facility.
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: All time melting.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: But the season's starting on Wednesday, they're playing some on Thursday, they're playing some Friday, playing some Saturday, playing some Sunday.
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: That whole overexposure thing, and you know, some people wax poetic.
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: Like I used to love when the NFL was on Sunday, and I could just kick back from noon or one o'clock, wherever you live.
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: I guess 10 o'clock if you're on the West Coast.
- 25:39SPEAKER_00: Watch all my games straight through, and I'm good.
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: Now it's every day, man.
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm uh how are you feeling about this season?
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: Are you you ex as excited as you normally are for a beginning of a football season?
- 25:52SPEAKER_01: Are you average, below average?
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: How you feeling?
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: I'd say I'm uh below average.
- 25:58SPEAKER_00: Uh just because I have a lot of moving parts.
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: I've seen a lot of football.
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: I think I'll be fine once it starts.
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: I personally, like it probably about 20 years ago now, I stopped watching pregame shows, whether it's high school, whether it's college, I mean whether it's college, whether it's pro.
- 26:15SPEAKER_00: I I don't want to hear about the hype.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: I just want to watch a game.
- 26:17SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm the same.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: I like post-game shows.
- 26:19SPEAKER_00: I don't like pregame shows.
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: And so, what is training camp and all the build-up leading to the season?
- 26:25SPEAKER_00: It's all one big pregame show.
- 26:27SPEAKER_00: You know, my dad's asking me, hey, what do you think about this?
- 26:30SPEAKER_03: And I was like, Right, right, right.
- 26:32SPEAKER_00: Man, I love you, so I'm gonna tell you the truth.
- 26:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:35SPEAKER_00: I don't care.
- 26:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because they don't play anybody in the preseason, they don't show I said, so man, you can't really tell anything from the pre-season.
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: So I'm looking forward to the season.
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: The season will probably get me juiced.
- 26:46SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm not gonna lie.
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: I've got three TVs and almost 200 inches worth of screen in my in my media room.
- 26:55SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 26:55SPEAKER_01: Uh sounds like sounds like some sort of overcompensation, but we won't go there.
- 26:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: So and I do have a Sunday ticket.
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: So I'm going to be up there Sunday.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: I have my iPads next to me.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: I got Twos.
- 27:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:06SPEAKER_00: So I have plenty of screens to really soak up the ambiance of Sunday football, and I'm going to enjoy it.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:14SPEAKER_01: I I'm I'm kind of I'm much more ambivalent this year than I have been in the past.
- 27:17SPEAKER_01: And I'm not I and I'm not quite certain why that is.
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: And I'm even a little bit more ambivalent about the college football season this year than I have been.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: Uh but but who but but just out of curiosity, do you have I'm not asking you Super Bowl pick, do you have like a sleeper team?
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: Is there a team that you think is under the radar that's going to do really well this year?
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: Uh not really.
- 27:38SPEAKER_00: I think for me it's more interesting to see.
- 27:41SPEAKER_00: I don't care about the sleepers.
- 27:43SPEAKER_00: I want to say the Rams can live up to the hype.
- 27:46SPEAKER_00: You know, um, if I did have a sleeper, I'd probably say the Cowboys of Detroit.
- 27:53SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, Detroit seems to it feels like time is past them, which is bad because they were so bad for so long, they deserve more than like a four-year window.
- 28:03SPEAKER_00: Uh right, I agree.
- 28:05SPEAKER_03: I agree.
- 28:05SPEAKER_00: Um, and so uh and I like Dan Campbell.
- 28:08SPEAKER_00: I think he's a quality human being, yeah, and uh I love his personality as a coach, even though it can drive you crazy if you're a fan.
- 28:15SPEAKER_00: And so I wish him success, and so I hope the Lions can figure it out and uh and and win some games and continue to be relevant.
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: I think it's fun when the Lions are relevant because they were so bad for so long.
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: Agreed, agreed.
- 28:29SPEAKER_01: No, it's a great, it's a it's a great story.
- 28:31SPEAKER_01: Uh bottom line for you on Roger Goodell.
- 28:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, man, I think he's uh uh I think he's been a fantastic moneymaker, but he's going to leave quite a complicated legacy when it's all said and done.
- 28:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I feel the same.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: Bottom line for me is amazing businessman.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: He's really put the NFL far and away above any other sports league, uh, certainly in the United States.
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: Um, but CTE will be the thing that really forms his legacy at the end.
- 29:04SPEAKER_00: Now it's time for our favorite topic.
- 29:06SPEAKER_00: It's the Buckeyes, baby.
- 29:07SPEAKER_00: They went up with a big win over somebody.
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: Anonymous view, ball state.
- 29:13SPEAKER_00: What is it?
- 29:14SPEAKER_00: 56 to 3.
- 29:15SPEAKER_01: 56 to 3 over the juggernaut that is ball state.
- 29:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:18SPEAKER_00: But you know, it's all about Texas week this week.
- 29:20SPEAKER_00: So I mean, they won that game, they did what they're supposed to.
- 29:23SPEAKER_00: They uh they had some things.
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: Uh running game was a little shady.
- 29:27SPEAKER_00: Uh, they picked it up in the second half, and so we'll learn a lot more about them this week when they play Texas.
- 29:31SPEAKER_00: Uh, for me, it's all about uh, you know, Julian Sane um and whether he can uh he can meet the moment.
- 29:41SPEAKER_00: And then you got Smith, Mr.
- 29:42SPEAKER_00: Smith, and see it's not whether to me, it's not whether Jeremiah Smith can meet the moment, it's whether he gets an opportunity to do what he does best.
- 29:51SPEAKER_00: Can they protect, scheme it up, get him the ball, even though he's going to have significant attention from uh Texas?
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I think uh I I agree.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: I think there's a couple things.
- 30:01SPEAKER_01: One is that it looks like they have a number two receiver uh in McEwen.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: He looked like he was he was pretty good.
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: Um and that's and that's good.
- 30:09SPEAKER_01: Chris Henry looked a little bit shakier than I expected, which surprised me a little bit.
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: Um, so if they're gonna, if if any team is gonna try to choke off, you know, do the Bill Bella check of trying to, we're just gonna our goal is to stop your your best weapon, right?
- 30:25SPEAKER_01: Um, does Ohio State have enough to to respond to that?
- 30:29SPEAKER_01: And I think they may have a second receiver that looks pretty strong.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: Uh and I also think the running game, which I'm calling, you know, they have the two Jacksons back there, I'm calling the the Jackson two, which you didn't even respond to me when I texted you that earlier, but I thought that was pretty funny.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: Um but I think you know they don't they don't strike, you know, you have said that you said this last year and you said it this year.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: They they don't particularly they're not A backs, they are you know B plus A minus backs.
- 30:56SPEAKER_01: Amen.
- 30:58SPEAKER_00: Legend B.
- 30:59SPEAKER_00: He's got a chance.
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: Maybe, maybe.
- 31:03SPEAKER_00: I am uh he maybe he's not a Jackson, but he's a legend.
- 31:08SPEAKER_00: So but so he's got you know what happens is, and I saw this, I said somebody uh somebody put a cut up of his plays.
- 31:18SPEAKER_00: And everybody saw a touchdown run with a really nice cutback, but he had a run in there, where I was like, oh, okay.
- 31:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's he's he's a he is, he's a talent.
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: That's a fair, that's a fair point.
- 31:29SPEAKER_00: And so what I mean is in a game like this, he'll probably touch the ball six or seven times, unless he does something spectacular early.
- 31:38SPEAKER_00: But he's the kind of guy who can make a play, and when we talk about him, Ohio State is always at its best.
- 31:45SPEAKER_00: Like Bo Jackson is fine, he's really good.
- 31:51SPEAKER_00: But he's only he's only so good, you know what I mean?
- 31:54SPEAKER_01: Well, but the other thing about Legend Bay is that Ohio State, when Ohio State plays Texas, it's one of the few times this year where the opposing team is going to have comparable athletic talent.
- 32:05SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 32:06SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 32:06SPEAKER_01: When you're playing teams that have comparable athletic talent, your best athletes and your best players are the ones who can break through in those kinds of games.
- 32:14SPEAKER_01: And Legend Bay has the talent that, you know, is as good as anybody on the field, whether he has the, you know, he's it'll be his second game as a college player, you know.
- 32:24SPEAKER_01: So he could be phenomenal.
- 32:25SPEAKER_01: He could also make some mistakes.
- 32:27SPEAKER_01: But I think he's that's a very interesting point.
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: I hadn't really thought about it.
- 32:30SPEAKER_01: He could be a he could be a real factor in this game, positively or negatively for Ohio State.
- 32:34SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: Uh if you hear any noise in the background, it's because the beat writers have returned from the locker room and they are having their afternoon party now.
- 32:42SPEAKER_01: Oh boy.
- 32:43SPEAKER_01: Oh boy, that must be uh that must be uh uh quite a quite a number of good-looking people in one spot.
- 32:52SPEAKER_01: But you you know what else I did?
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: I looked up on PFF Pro Football Focus because I I think that you're gonna have Julian Saiyan and Jeremiah Smith are gonna be compared to Darien Mensa and Malachi Tony at uh U Miami because they're very similar.
- 33:09SPEAKER_01: You know, they're you know, the quarterbacks are similar and the the receivers are similar.
- 33:13SPEAKER_01: And I think they're gonna be measured against one another.
- 33:15SPEAKER_01: So pro football focus, I just looked it up.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: They give an overall offensive grade at the end, end of every week.
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: Uh Julian Sain's offensive grade was 93.1, Darien Mentz's overall offensive grade was 92.6, so they were pretty close.
- 33:29SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 33:30SPEAKER_01: Jeremiah Smith's offensive grade was 89.5.
- 33:33SPEAKER_01: Malachi Toney.
- 33:35SPEAKER_00: Oh 98.
- 33:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was like 90, 92.2.
- 33:39SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
- 33:40SPEAKER_01: So, but what you've got is, and and by the way, I'm not, I was not as saying looked a lot better to me in the first game than I'd anticipated that he was going to look this year.
- 33:50SPEAKER_01: Um, so that's a that's a good sign.
- 33:52SPEAKER_01: But again, it's against Ball State, it's one game.
- 33:54SPEAKER_01: What you know, how meaningful is that?
- 33:56SPEAKER_01: Um But uh I I just it just struck me this week watching all the teams play and looking at them.
- 34:04SPEAKER_01: I I think uh at least after the week one, I think Miami looks Miami looks tough.
- 34:11SPEAKER_01: Miami looks like they're a final four team.
- 34:15SPEAKER_00: I would agree with that.
- 34:17SPEAKER_00: You know, for me in college football, and Miami's already figured it out.
- 34:21SPEAKER_00: We like to say they understand how to video game a guy, they know how to get Malachi Tony the ball.
- 34:26SPEAKER_00: Whatever you do, he's getting his touches, and there's nothing you can do about it.
- 34:30SPEAKER_00: That's what we would like to see the Buckeyes do from time to time with their best players.
- 34:35SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 34:36SPEAKER_00: I say it all the time in the NFL, which is you know, so many coaches are like, oh, we we take what the defense gives us, and that's cool.
- 34:44SPEAKER_00: Sometimes you need to take what you want because they're giving you what they want you to have.
- 34:50SPEAKER_00: And so um, you'd like to see them like there's no way you can stop Jeremiah Smith from getting the ball, either because he's outside, he's in the slot, he's coming out in reverses, he's getting the ball in bubbles.
- 35:02SPEAKER_00: He's you I don't care what you do, he's touching the ball 10 to 12 times a game.
- 35:08SPEAKER_00: And you know, we'll take a couple deep shots, but you're not taking him out.
- 35:12SPEAKER_00: And that's what you know, too many times to me, Ryan Day.
- 35:15SPEAKER_00: Uh, even though I think he's terrific, he allows people to take out his weapons.
- 35:21SPEAKER_01: Fair.
- 35:21SPEAKER_01: That's a that's a fair point.
- 35:22SPEAKER_01: Question for you you're you're in Dallas, Cowboy season starting, Texas is playing Ohio State this weekend.
- 35:31SPEAKER_01: What's everybody talking about?
- 35:32SPEAKER_01: Which which one's bigger?
- 35:33SPEAKER_01: Is it just the cowboys just dwarf the Texas Ohio State, or is is it kind of approaching the same stratosphere?
- 35:39SPEAKER_00: No, Cowboys dwarf everything.
- 35:40SPEAKER_01: Cowboys dwarf everything.
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: So is there uh and does that is that good for for Texas and Arch?
- 35:47SPEAKER_01: Because this is opening weekend for the Cowboys and there's less spotlight on this?
- 35:51SPEAKER_00: That's just in Dallas.
- 35:53SPEAKER_00: They're going crazy in Austin.
- 35:55SPEAKER_00: So yeah, and this is the net this is a huge national game.
- 35:59SPEAKER_00: Every throw is going to be a reference.
- 36:01SPEAKER_00: You know, Arch Arch in Texas, Arch has all the pressure.
- 36:05SPEAKER_00: You know, they're at home.
- 36:06SPEAKER_00: I think we've beaten them twice in a row.
- 36:08SPEAKER_00: Uh, they've been gearing up for this one, they're supposed to win this one.
- 36:12SPEAKER_00: I think.
- 36:12SPEAKER_00: Are they favored by like a point or a point?
- 36:14SPEAKER_01: I think they're pointing their point at favorite, which basically means they're an underdog on a neutral field.
- 36:19SPEAKER_00: You know, yeah, so I I expect a great game.
- 36:22SPEAKER_00: Uh I'm not sure, you know.
- 36:25SPEAKER_00: It'll be interesting.
- 36:26SPEAKER_00: Here's what here's what I'll say.
- 36:28SPEAKER_00: It'll be interesting to see who we're talking about after the game in a positive manner.
- 36:34SPEAKER_00: Are we talking about Arch?
- 36:35SPEAKER_00: Are we talking to, I mean, they got they got Texas got I was saying all I've seen is like, I don't know why Texas is not ranked number one.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Texas has got Texas is Texas's got some dudes.
- 36:46SPEAKER_00: Texas are stacked and they are loaded.
- 36:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but who are we gonna talk about?
- 36:50SPEAKER_00: We're gonna be talking about uh some of their defensive ends.
- 36:53SPEAKER_00: Uh I forget his name, but he played, he played in played like five minutes for me in Dallas.
- 36:58SPEAKER_00: You know, we're gonna be talking about Legend Bay, we're gonna be talking about uh some of the defensive players on Ohio State.
- 37:03SPEAKER_00: You know, who's going to leave this having made a name for themselves?
- 37:07SPEAKER_00: Uh so it should be fun, man.
- 37:08SPEAKER_00: It should be a great game, be highly entertaining.
- 37:10SPEAKER_00: Uh, you know, it's gonna be a lot of tenuous moments and a lot of oh, but I think the pressure is on is on Sark because they they oh and five, baby.
- 37:25SPEAKER_01: They seem to have the he seems to have hit sort of a James Franklin plateau or ceiling.
- 37:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and he's kind of got to bust through that now.
- 37:32SPEAKER_01: And beating Ohio State will bust through that for Sark.
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: If he doesn't, I think that's gonna put a lot of pressure on Texas for the rest of the year.
- 37:40SPEAKER_00: That's why it says a lot more on Texas thanks.
- 37:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and if Ohio State loses, Ohio State loses.
- 37:46SPEAKER_01: I don't think that's gonna put that much pressure on Ohio State.
- 37:49SPEAKER_01: You know, they're at they're at Texas, it's the second game of the year.
- 37:52SPEAKER_01: I think they just yeah.
- 37:54SPEAKER_00: It's like when we lost to uh Oregon a couple years ago.
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: Right, very similar.
- 38:00SPEAKER_00: I mean, it started off bad, then we can't.
- 38:02SPEAKER_00: I think we came back, and at the end of the day, it was a one possession game, you lost.
- 38:05SPEAKER_00: And so you can't.
- 38:06SPEAKER_01: Well Will Howard had a you know, it was kind of a brain fart at the end of the game, but that's you go, well, that sucks, but okay.
- 38:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and you keep it moving.
- 38:14SPEAKER_00: I don't Texas won't do it because it'll be one more time where they haven't, you know.
- 38:19SPEAKER_00: Again, at home, it's you know, you've been gearing up for this game all off season.
- 38:24SPEAKER_00: Uh you gotta win it if you're Texas.
- 38:27SPEAKER_01: So, prediction, or you don't want to give a prediction?
- 38:29SPEAKER_00: Uh, bottom line for me, I think Texas wins.
- 38:33SPEAKER_00: Uh I'm gonna say uh 27-23.
- 38:38SPEAKER_01: Uh bottom bottom line for me, and I hate to do this, I I agree with you.
- 38:42SPEAKER_01: Uh, I think I think Texas wins, and I think Ohio State's defense gets exposed.
- 38:49SPEAKER_01: That's what I think happens here.
- 38:50SPEAKER_01: I do.
- 38:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:53SPEAKER_01: So that and so whatever I've just said, just bet the opposite.
- 38:56SPEAKER_01: That would be my my advice to anybody.
- 38:59SPEAKER_00: All right, he's Jeremy Kate.
- 39:00SPEAKER_00: I'm John Jack Taylor.
- 39:02SPEAKER_00: This has been the bottom line on sports.
- 39:04SPEAKER_00: Thanks for listening to everybody.
- 39:05SPEAKER_00: We'll see you next week.
