- 0:03Speaker 1: This is a Bramble Jam podcast.
- 0:12Speaker 2: This week on your Gabble Gabo. If your boyfriend borrows
- 0:15Speaker 2: your car then crashes your car, is he responsible if
- 0:18Speaker 2: he doesn't think he's at fault, Judge matthis is here
- 0:21Speaker 2: to tell you the obvious answer.
- 0:22Speaker 1: And if you buy a boat and the boat doesn't boats,
- 0:27Speaker 1: can you get your money back? Boat doesn't? The tribunal
- 0:30Speaker 1: court rules, real people, real cases. Thank justice. Hello everybody,

- 0:46Speaker 1: you stop? Do that dance? Don't you stop? The to thel?
- 0:50Speaker 1: That was it? It's a little of this what makes it? Gavel?
- 0:52Speaker 1: I don't know, Okay, I don't know.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Not I I will say this brain where you're doing
- 0:59Speaker 2: a new the tribunal justice whatever it is, tribe, trimmunal justice.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Of course, I'm gonna let you go last this time.
- 1:06Speaker 1: We welcome to your gabble Gabble.
- 1:08Speaker 2: If you're listening on bramblegen plus, if you're listening without
- 1:10Speaker 2: commercials bramagen plus dot com. If you're listening in the
- 1:13Speaker 2: regular way, this is years in the future and you
- 1:16Speaker 2: congratulations and enjoyed it?
- 1:17Speaker 1: Crazy crazy what just happened? Did you see it? I?
- 1:20Speaker 1: Think everyone will be fine, though, yeah, I think it
- 1:22Speaker 1: will too. You thought it was a rapture.
- 1:26Speaker 2: So my case is ridiculous, and it's Judge Mathis, and
- 1:30Speaker 2: so am I not ridiculous in a fun way, ridiculous
- 1:33Speaker 2: that it even got to court.
- 1:34Speaker 1: So I'm gonna go first. Uh.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Latrina Stewart is suing her ex boyfriend for five thousand
- 1:41Speaker 2: dollars for a crashed car car repair pace.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Five grand, five great, five large.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Andre Illage is countersuing Latrina one thousand dollars for harassment.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Uh, Latrina says I dated Andre for two years. Everything
- 1:57Speaker 2: was good at first, but then he started just like
- 1:59Speaker 2: going out all night, going late, out late with friends.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Females are calling his phone at all hours of the night.
- 2:05Speaker 1: It was too much.
- 2:05Speaker 2: So we broke up and we decided try to work
- 2:08Speaker 2: things out. And then we tried, Like, I gave it
- 2:11Speaker 2: one more shot. He went to a stripper party with
- 2:13Speaker 2: one of his friends. He came home at four thirty
- 2:15Speaker 2: in the morning, phones ring and women asking for him,
- 2:17Speaker 2: and I was like, we're just not doing this. Andrea
- 2:20Speaker 2: is like, when was this? I don't when went this
- 2:22Speaker 2: four thirty thing? I don't when was it? I don't
- 2:24Speaker 2: know what you're talking about. When was it? So she
- 2:26Speaker 2: gives him some more details and he's like, you're on her.
- 2:28Speaker 2: I don't even like strippers. Uh, so you know you
- 2:31Speaker 2: can tell she she's lying. I don't even like strippers.
- 2:33Speaker 2: That's how you know he's under oath.
- 2:36Speaker 1: So there you go.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Uh, Latrina says, once a dog, always a dog.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Okay.
- 2:41Speaker 2: And Andre was always doing things like this. Andrea's ex
- 2:44Speaker 2: girlfriend would call and say that they're still having sex.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Blah blah blah.
- 2:47Speaker 2: He's a leader, a leader. He's a liar and cheater
- 2:50Speaker 2: and a dog. But he's a leader, and he's a lead,
- 2:52Speaker 2: a lieder, and a cheet chier.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Yes.
- 2:55Speaker 2: So Andre's like, Judge, you're on this. Lady's a liar.
- 2:58Speaker 2: She's an habitual liar. I let her finish entirely. Everything
- 3:01Speaker 2: she said is false.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Wow of it. She's obsessed with me.
- 3:05Speaker 2: If there was not a door here, she'd probably jump
- 3:08Speaker 2: across this table on me, is what he said. And
- 3:12Speaker 2: if we were together right now, we wouldn't be in court,
- 3:15Speaker 2: which is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard
- 3:17Speaker 2: said on one of these shows. We would he that
- 3:19Speaker 2: is true for ninety percent of these cases if you
- 3:22Speaker 2: were not, if you were still in a relationship with
- 3:24Speaker 2: this person, yeah, you wouldn't be suing them. Duh, duh.
- 3:27Speaker 2: And Matth's like, well, how'd y'all break up? And then
- 3:32Speaker 2: Andre says something else that doubles down on stupid. He says, well,
- 3:36Speaker 2: it was almost mutual. You're honored, almost mutual. Didn't even
- 3:41Speaker 2: lie and just say mutual. And he goes, Okay, so
- 3:44Speaker 2: she quit you and he's like, well, you're on her.
- 3:46Speaker 2: He goes, it sounds like she quit you. And the
- 3:49Speaker 2: thing about women that are obsessed with you is is
- 3:51Speaker 2: they don't quit you or sue you. Women who are
- 3:55Speaker 2: obsessed with you don't quit you and don't sue you.
- 3:58Speaker 2: And he's like, all right, whatever, after she quit me
- 4:01Speaker 2: or whatever, she was calling my job excessively, coming to
- 4:04Speaker 2: my place of work, excessively asking me to come back,
- 4:07Speaker 2: trying to get me back.
- 4:08Speaker 1: She's so obsessive.
- 4:09Speaker 2: When we were together, I was accused constantly for looking
- 4:12Speaker 2: at other females, even though I didn't do anything wrong.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Latrina Matthis is like, all right, I've heard enough, tell
- 4:17Speaker 2: me what happened. Latrina's like, we still remain friends and
- 4:20Speaker 2: occasionally I'd let him borrow my car, and one morning
- 4:24Speaker 2: he took me to work and I let him borrow
- 4:25Speaker 2: my car. He calls me twenty minutes after he dropped
- 4:30Speaker 2: me off and said, I don't know what happened, but
- 4:31Speaker 2: I slid into a school bus. Slid into a school bus.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Andre's like, you're on her. There was a car in
- 4:38Speaker 2: front of the school bus that stopped abruptly. The school
- 4:42Speaker 2: bus hit the brakes and then I had to hit
- 4:44Speaker 2: the brakes and my car went under the bottom of
- 4:49Speaker 2: the school bus. I slid under a school bus. That's
- 4:52Speaker 2: what happened. And he's like, you have evidence that other
- 4:55Speaker 2: cars stopped ahead of the school bus. I don't, but
- 4:58Speaker 2: if you could, if you were out there, you'd see
- 5:00Speaker 2: the tire treads. And I just left the car wash,
- 5:04Speaker 2: so the wheels were kind of uh, they were a
- 5:06Speaker 2: little squeaky and slippery. So just for Andre's timeline, he
- 5:12Speaker 2: drops Latrina off and in twenty minutes he goes to
- 5:15Speaker 2: the car wash immediately, And then you know how water
- 5:18Speaker 2: notoriously makes the ridges in rubber tires slips slippery, and
- 5:24Speaker 2: that made you that you know us and finish is
- 5:29Speaker 2: like your honor I have the report saying it was
- 5:30Speaker 2: his fault. Wow, Andre's like, I wasn't even going twenty
- 5:33Speaker 2: miles an hour, your honor, This wasn't my fault. And
- 5:35Speaker 2: he goes, well, if you weren't going twenty miles an hour,
- 5:37Speaker 2: Mathis says, then you certainly shouldn't have hit the bus.
- 5:41Speaker 2: And Andrea's like, exactly, you're honored. That's what I'm saying.
- 5:45Speaker 2: I'm telling you didn't go down like that. We see
- 5:47Speaker 2: pictures of the car cars ft up hood looks like
- 5:51Speaker 2: it's folded like a sheet.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Of paper, and but that wouldn't happen if you're going
- 5:55Speaker 1: twenty miles per hour.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, exactly says that. And he goes, Okay, you're
- 6:00Speaker 2: on her. Let's say it was my fault. That doesn't
- 6:03Speaker 2: give a person a right to harass you. And mathters like,
- 6:06Speaker 2: how many times she come to your job? He goes
- 6:08Speaker 2: over three times? He goes, okay, how many times she called?
- 6:11Speaker 2: Latrina's like, I've only ever called his cell phone and
- 6:14Speaker 2: I never did went to his job to ask about money.
- 6:17Speaker 2: He's a cashier, I went to shop.
- 6:19Speaker 1: But why is why is she, according to him, harassing
- 6:23Speaker 1: him after this crash? I guess for money for the car.
- 6:27Speaker 1: It's her car. Yes.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Mathis then gets to read some texts that she brought
- 6:32Speaker 2: in cart which were great to heart. Mathis say things like,
- 6:36Speaker 2: you bogus as hell for that, and you'll be punished
- 6:39Speaker 2: for that. It's it's cool, God knows what you did.
- 6:42Speaker 1: It was fun. Yeah, And she's saying that to him. Yes.
- 6:45Speaker 2: But then the defendant, the defendant Andre who Latrina has
- 6:49Speaker 2: been harassing me then texts Latrina call me called on
- 6:58Speaker 2: and now Judge Maths is ready to rule. I think
- 7:00Speaker 2: she's gonna get all the money, gonna get all the money.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Doesn't have a leg to stand on at all. She's
- 7:07Speaker 2: gonna get all the money.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Man, it's fun. You gotta love one that happens fun.
- 7:12Speaker 1: So you know, Judge Judy, I'm aware. So Judge Judy
- 7:15Speaker 1: went to Free if you remember. Now apparently and apparently
- 7:19Speaker 1: now she has a an empire there because she has
- 7:22Speaker 1: brought over a new show that says creating her casket
- 7:26Speaker 1: with money that says created by the show is called
- 7:29Speaker 1: Tribune Tribunal Justice, and it is hot bench. It's just
- 7:35Speaker 1: three judges, three judges, and they are three of the
- 7:39Speaker 1: same judges that I've seen on hot bench before. Oh,
- 7:42Speaker 1: so it is hot. It's hot bench.
- 7:44Speaker 2: I thought you said, like before we started, you were like,
- 7:46Speaker 2: I just showed it's kind of like hot bench hot.
- 7:49Speaker 1: It's hot. I wasn't quite sure how hot.
- 7:52Speaker 2: So the older New York lady and older New York.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Dude, okay, yeah, cool, and then the African American woman
- 8:00Speaker 1: it was yes, but I think they have a rotation.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Sometimes it's always those three, but I think these are
- 8:06Speaker 2: the three for the three yes.
- 8:08Speaker 1: But this show says it's created by Judy, so that's fun. Okay.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Douglas Freeman is suing U William didn't get his last name.
- 8:17Speaker 1: I guess for twenty one hundred dollars for the cost
- 8:20Speaker 1: of a boat. Great. Now, I want to let you
- 8:22Speaker 1: know here, this case in any other courtroom would not
- 8:26Speaker 1: take long.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Take to this eight minute. This is an eight nine
- 8:29Speaker 2: minute boy. But now we have three judges, three times
- 8:32Speaker 2: eight twenty four.
- 8:33Speaker 1: It's a thirty minute case. Okay, Well, hit the highlights
- 8:36Speaker 1: for me. Then let me tell you what happens. Its
- 8:37Speaker 1: bare details. We'll see how I do. Douglas Freeman wanted
- 8:42Speaker 1: to buy a boat. He saw an ad for a
- 8:44Speaker 1: boat and wanted to go see the boat. It was
- 8:46Speaker 1: getting a little bit late, but he decided that he
- 8:47Speaker 1: would go anyway.
- 8:49Speaker 2: This is very similar to my first ever yo gabble
- 8:51Speaker 2: gay really first one ever out.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Yes, this is a thirty four year old pontoon boat.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Pontoon boat, thirty four year old ponto. He goes down
- 9:02Speaker 1: to check out the boat. He's seen a few boats
- 9:06Speaker 1: in his in his life, so he, you know, was
- 9:09Speaker 1: he knew what he was going to be looking for.
- 9:10Speaker 1: He sees a few boats in the yards, but Matthew says,
- 9:15Speaker 1: I don't want to sell those ones. This is the
- 9:16Speaker 1: one that I want to sell you, and brings him
- 9:20Speaker 1: to that boat. Douglas was in the navy, so he
- 9:23Speaker 1: knows boats. He inspects it, looks at and around the boat,
- 9:29Speaker 1: mainly looking at the motor. Inspects the motor, turns and on,
- 9:33Speaker 1: make sure everything is operating correctly. The boat's not perfect.
- 9:36Speaker 1: It started four years Douglas knows this, but it looked
- 9:41Speaker 1: okay to him, so he buys it. He takes it
- 9:44Speaker 1: out on the water for the first time and it
- 9:46Speaker 1: begins to take on water a little bit. He says,
- 9:49Speaker 1: it begins to tilt to one side, which tells him
- 9:52Speaker 1: that one of the pontoons has a hole in it
- 9:55Speaker 1: that is letting some water in. He's able to stay
- 9:58Speaker 1: out on the water for six hours, so it's very slowly.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Obviously he should not.
- 10:03Speaker 2: I know that we got twenty four minutes of tribunal justice,
- 10:05Speaker 2: but it's a private party sale.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Well, just do you wait? Okay, he thought maybe it
- 10:10Speaker 1: would be okay. He goes out there on a second time,
- 10:14Speaker 1: all right, this time with his family, and now it's
- 10:19Speaker 1: it's getting worse. Obviously. He decides last times to charm
- 10:24Speaker 1: maybe you know, maybe you've done things wrong. He decides
- 10:27Speaker 1: to take some buddies out there, and that's when it
- 10:30Speaker 1: gets really bad. His buddy like stands on the pontoon
- 10:34Speaker 1: or something and he falls, like goes nose nose deep,
- 10:37Speaker 1: nose nose first, deep nose deep. And so he decides
- 10:41Speaker 1: now is the time to take this to a mechanic.
- 10:43Speaker 1: After taking it out three times, he takes it to
- 10:46Speaker 1: a mechanic. The mechanic says that the boat is unrepaarable, irrepaarable,
- 10:51Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, irreparable, irreparable. The mechanic provides a statement
- 10:56Speaker 1: saying just this that you cannot fix this. But but
- 11:01Speaker 1: while the mechanics isn't inspecting the boat, he notices some
- 11:04Speaker 1: pretty big welding jobs have taken place in and around
- 11:10Speaker 1: the engineers itself. Yes, especially on the side of which
- 11:14Speaker 1: it was taking on water. So it's most likely that
- 11:18Speaker 1: the welding job was shody shot ai and was causing
- 11:22Speaker 1: water to get him. The judge asked William if he
- 11:25Speaker 1: ever told Douglas about the welding. He says no, because
- 11:29Speaker 1: I didn't think it was a problem. He took the
- 11:31Speaker 1: boat out. I took the boat out, William says, and
- 11:33Speaker 1: it was fine, but obviously it took a little while
- 11:36Speaker 1: for water to begin coming in for Douglas six hours.
- 11:38Speaker 1: He was out there for six hours, and it was
- 11:39Speaker 1: doing a little tilt job. I probably shouldn't say it
- 11:42Speaker 1: like that, but uh it started to tilt and uh
- 11:45Speaker 1: so obviously when William takes it out, he doesn't take
- 11:47Speaker 1: it out for six hours, so he doesn't notice that
- 11:49Speaker 1: it's taking on any water. He explains that he actually
- 11:54Speaker 1: bought the boat a few months prior. He's only owned
- 11:56Speaker 1: the boat for three months before he sells it. He
- 11:58Speaker 1: works at a Foster group home and wanted to take
- 12:00Speaker 1: kids out of the water, and so he buys the boat.
- 12:04Speaker 1: He makes him, repairs himself, including the motor, gets a
- 12:08Speaker 1: new motor on this sucker, but then finds out he
- 12:10Speaker 1: can't take kids out on boats. It's frowned upon by
- 12:14Speaker 1: the state and everybody involved. His heart was there, though,
- 12:18Speaker 1: heart was the right one. Wanted to teach kids out
- 12:19Speaker 1: of fish. Teacher kid of fish. It's that old saying,
- 12:22Speaker 1: you know. Uh. They ask him if the reason why
- 12:25Speaker 1: he sold it has anything to do with experiencing the
- 12:29Speaker 1: same sinking that Douglas experience. He says no. No. Judge
- 12:33Speaker 1: says you sure about that doesn't matter, It doesn't matter.
- 12:36Speaker 1: He says, yes, I'm sure. I can't believe we're doing
- 12:38Speaker 1: this right now. Another judge jumps in and says, Douglas
- 12:44Speaker 1: if it did you see the welding job, and he says,
- 12:47Speaker 1: I saw some welding, but it was significantly more welding
- 12:50Speaker 1: than I initially thought. It was getting dark outside, so
- 12:54Speaker 1: didn't didn't see it. She explains, in order for us
- 12:57Speaker 1: to give you your money back, you're gonna have to
- 12:58Speaker 1: prove that he was at I think in a fraudulent manner,
- 13:02Speaker 1: not letting you inspect the boat, holding back something that
- 13:06Speaker 1: proves that he's actually responsible for covering this up. Now, Douglas,
- 13:13Speaker 1: here we Go is a black man. William is a
- 13:16Speaker 1: white man. Douglas says, I'll put at point blank. I
- 13:20Speaker 1: don't believe he would have sold this boat to a
- 13:21Speaker 1: white man. I called him up, I told him what
- 13:25Speaker 1: happened to the boat. He hung up on me. He
- 13:27Speaker 1: ain't give me the time of day, Douglas. William says,
- 13:32Speaker 1: I hung up because he calls me months after buying
- 13:36Speaker 1: the boat and was cussing me out and was being
- 13:38Speaker 1: really unkind. And I didn't want to deal with that.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Douglas says, he didn't do anything of a sort. I
- 13:44Speaker 1: didn't get to be seventy three years old by being
- 13:46Speaker 1: a dang fool. I wouldn't just call somebody else and
- 13:48Speaker 1: cuss him out. I wouldn't do it like that. William
- 13:51Speaker 1: provides a receipt of the work that was done before
- 13:54Speaker 1: selling the boat, which includes a quote unquote test. Douglas says,
- 13:58Speaker 1: the test is making sure the boat work, not motorworks,
- 14:02Speaker 1: not that the boat actually floats. We think that we're
- 14:06Speaker 1: ready to rule, but we're not. But then we see
- 14:10Speaker 1: some photos provided by William to Douglas before the boat
- 14:17Speaker 1: was sold, before it actually goes to see it, like hey,
- 14:19Speaker 1: here's my boat, And conveniently, none of the pictures include
- 14:24Speaker 1: images of any welding. Okay, The judge asks if it's
- 14:27Speaker 1: fair to say that you didn't include the pictures of
- 14:30Speaker 1: the welding because it would make it harder to sell.
- 14:32Speaker 1: William says, no, it just didn't include. I just walked
- 14:34Speaker 1: around took pictures. Then the judge asked William if the
- 14:38Speaker 1: welding takes place on the whole of the boat. Okay,
- 14:43Speaker 1: He says, I don't know where the whole of the
- 14:45Speaker 1: boat is. Judge says, well, isn't it typically the pontoons?
- 14:48Speaker 1: He says, I'm not positive, but I would think so. Finally,
- 14:53Speaker 1: just as the judge asked both of them to confirm
- 14:56Speaker 1: that the bill of sale from the State of Georgia
- 15:02Speaker 1: that they have in front of them is the accurate
- 15:04Speaker 1: bill of sale that they that they signed, they both
- 15:07Speaker 1: say yes. And now the judges go back to their
- 15:11Speaker 1: convene and they're going to come in there.
- 15:14Speaker 2: So I guess there could be something in this bill
- 15:17Speaker 2: of sale that is like, well, in Georgia would to
- 15:19Speaker 2: sell the thing. Blah blah blah that I'm not getting
- 15:23Speaker 2: and I'm willing to admit that I of everything I heard,
- 15:27Speaker 2: this is one hundred percent a legal transaction, and the
- 15:32Speaker 2: law can do nothing for Douglas. That they just can't.
- 15:36Speaker 2: There's no proof of anything. There's a boat that was used,
- 15:40Speaker 2: it's thirty five years old, it was sold under the
- 15:43Speaker 2: pretense you would sell anything, and there's no proof of
- 15:46Speaker 2: foul play. He shouldn't get it done.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Your rights about all of it, about everything you said? Okay,
- 15:54Speaker 1: So we find out that in the state of Georgia,
- 15:57Speaker 1: when you sell a boat, the seller needs to check
- 16:00Speaker 1: yes or no to if the hole has never been
- 16:04Speaker 1: if the hole has ever been damaged and or repaired.
- 16:08Speaker 1: William checked no. Okay, Yeah, all of the judges agree.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Didn't see any like avert racism in this case, so
- 16:17Speaker 1: I can't really use that. But he did. And listen,
- 16:22Speaker 1: Douglas should have taken should have brought a mechanic. But
- 16:26Speaker 1: this is now technically a fraudulent document. So he's gonna
- 16:30Speaker 1: get his twenty one hundred dollars. But William gets his
- 16:32Speaker 1: boat back and he can try to repair that boat
- 16:35Speaker 1: again and try to sell it if he wants to,
- 16:37Speaker 1: and do the documents correctly, but he gets his boat back. Now,
- 16:41Speaker 1: I will just say two out of the three judges
- 16:44Speaker 1: agreed with this ruling, which is enough to actually do
- 16:46Speaker 1: the ruling. One of them said this to me, this this,
- 16:51Speaker 1: this was three months, three months. This is a buyer
- 16:53Speaker 1: beware situation. He took it, he took it out three
- 16:56Speaker 1: The dude, the old woman, young woman, which one the
- 16:59Speaker 1: old New York woman said said no, okay, she said, yes,
- 17:04Speaker 1: obviously this is what it is. But I do think
- 17:06Speaker 1: that at a certain point you took it out three times.
- 17:10Speaker 1: You're noticing in the like you like, yes, it's not
- 17:13Speaker 1: evidence that it was fraugile on purpose.
- 17:15Speaker 2: It just happens like it's a it's a it's kind
