- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio. Fresh off hosting Super Bowl fifty seven last month,
- 0:22Speaker 1: Arizona once again the place to be in the NFL universe,
- 0:26Speaker 1: hosting the annual lead Meeting Phoenix, Arizona there at the Biltmore,
- 0:31Speaker 1: one of the more beautiful venues in the NFL calendar.
- 0:34Speaker 1: A lot of business to get to with Woody Johnson
- 0:37Speaker 1: and Mark Murphy still in those Aaron Rodgers trade negotiations. Stanchronkie,
- 0:43Speaker 1: Kevin Demof and Robert Kraft had some strong comments about
- 0:46Speaker 1: the Patriots getting back to the playoffs, and of course
- 0:48Speaker 1: Roger Goodell will close the meeting a little later today
- 0:51Speaker 1: at press conference. You're gonna watch right here on NFL Network.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Welcome into NFL Now. I'm Amarice in the NFL Network newsroom.
- 0:58Speaker 1: A lot to get to today, much more discussion on
- 1:00Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers and Lamar Jackson. We're also going to be
- 1:04Speaker 1: visiting with jay Von Hargrave, the newest forty nine er
- 1:08Speaker 1: defensive lineman. Who's going to be as quarterback. We're still
- 1:11Speaker 1: not sure, but that is where we begin here on
- 1:13Speaker 1: NFL Now, New Right Now or Insider Report brock Purty
- 1:17Speaker 1: still recovering from that elbow surgery. They've added Sam Darnold.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Trey Lance still recovering from his injury. Kyle Shanahan asked
- 1:25Speaker 1: a little earlier today at the NFC Coach's Breakfast, what
- 1:29Speaker 1: about his quarterback situation. Jimmy got hurt and opened it
- 1:34Speaker 1: up for Brock, and Brock played eight games and won
- 1:37Speaker 1: all of them and played at extremely high level. And
- 1:41Speaker 1: we're very excited to have that level of a players
- 1:44Speaker 1: our quarterback. Now. We believe Trey can be that. I
- 1:46Speaker 1: think he would have done it last year if he
- 1:48Speaker 1: stayed healthy. The good thing for him is with Brock,
- 1:51Speaker 1: Bey and heard and stuff, he has an opportunity to
- 1:53Speaker 1: try to regain that in everything. And that's also we
- 1:55Speaker 1: brought in Sam because we can't be set for sure
- 1:57Speaker 1: on Brock because you never know how the injury will go.
- 2:00Speaker 1: We think it will go well and we're optimistic about it,
- 2:02Speaker 1: but right now that's on hold, and so it opens
- 2:04Speaker 1: up opens up an opportunity for Trey and for Sam
- 2:07Speaker 1: to come in and show us what they have. Are
- 2:10Speaker 1: much more on the forty nine ers quarterback situation. We
- 2:12Speaker 1: welcome in our NFL network insiders, Tom Pellicero, Ian Rappaport,
- 2:17Speaker 1: Mike Garifolo a k a. The Charcoal Soup Club, Tom,
- 2:21Speaker 1: take it away. Now, this has been controversial here, Omar.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Of course, we're gonna have votes on rules changes coming
- 2:29Speaker 1: up later today. Roger Goodell, as you mentioned, going to
- 2:31Speaker 1: speak on a variety of different subjects. But Mike Garifolo
- 2:34Speaker 1: claiming his suit is what color? Mike, it's a green
- 2:37Speaker 1: suits green sea. Internet. I don't know if we can
- 2:40Speaker 1: show my tweet, but the internet is strongly it's ninety
- 2:43Speaker 1: five percent responses are gray. It is literally green. Yeah,
- 2:48Speaker 1: but you're thank you. Ian. I don't care like I
- 2:51Speaker 1: don't care what color you think it is, just as
- 2:53Speaker 1: long as you go that looks nice whatever I mean.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I took a picture. I posted one of me in
- 2:58Speaker 1: the sun where you can clearly see. Some people are
- 3:00Speaker 1: saying it looks blue, which is fine because that's closer
- 3:03Speaker 1: to green than gray green. I could lie down in
- 3:05Speaker 1: the grass so you could see me against the grass
- 3:08Speaker 1: and maybe we'll do that shortly. Well, think about hey,
- 3:11Speaker 1: you go see certainly looks less gray. You could say
- 3:14Speaker 1: maybe blue instead of green, but you know I should
- 3:17Speaker 1: lie down. That's what I should do me in the
- 3:19Speaker 1: grass together, you won't know where I stop in the
- 3:21Speaker 1: grass begins fifty shades of gray on this set, one
- 3:24Speaker 1: shade of apparently green. All right, let's talk about Rock
- 3:26Speaker 1: Purty here. Ian We know that he had the surgery
- 3:28Speaker 1: on March tenth for the torn UCL It was not
- 3:31Speaker 1: the full Tommy John surgery. It's a repair. So the
- 3:33Speaker 1: expectation has been Purdy's gonna be thrown within three months.
- 3:36Speaker 1: There's been optimism that he's going to be ready for camp,
- 3:39Speaker 1: but Kyle Shanahan mentioned six to eight months in terms
- 3:42Speaker 1: of exactly when he's going to be game ready in
- 3:45Speaker 1: his mind. And the fact that he's even talking about
- 3:47Speaker 1: the possibility that the last pick in the draft last
- 3:50Speaker 1: year being hurt opens up an opportunity for the third
- 3:54Speaker 1: pick in the draft a couple of years ago to
- 3:55Speaker 1: get some reps and show what he can do. It's
- 3:57Speaker 1: a fascinating quarterback situation in San Francisco. It's a it's
- 4:00Speaker 1: all wild. But let's get to the Brock Purty part.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Because you're right, there had been a lot of discussions,
- 4:03Speaker 1: especially right after his surgery, the optimism that, oh, yeah,
- 4:06Speaker 1: he'll be ready for the season, be throwing after three months,
- 4:09Speaker 1: and then at that point he'll be ready for training camp.
- 4:12Speaker 1: But I'll be throwing in training it. This is the
- 4:14Speaker 1: first time that remember, the forty nine Ers organization has
- 4:17Speaker 1: been out front and very honest and transparent and say
- 4:20Speaker 1: we do not know if he's going to be ready.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Kyle Shannon said, after three months, they're gonna know. Is
- 4:25Speaker 1: it a six month recovery or is it a four
- 4:27Speaker 1: month recovery. He opened up the door potentially for brock
- 4:30Speaker 1: Purty not even being ready by week four, like that
- 4:34Speaker 1: would be significant to me. That sort of explains why
- 4:37Speaker 1: the signing of Sam Donald was so important. We do
- 4:39Speaker 1: not know what Traylance is going to be if he
- 4:41Speaker 1: continues the trajectory that he's been on, and I think
- 4:44Speaker 1: certainly it seems Sam Donald will more likely than not
- 4:47Speaker 1: be the starter going into the season, but there is
- 4:50Speaker 1: an opportunity for someone to step in there and start
- 4:54Speaker 1: a first couple of games of the regular season for
- 4:56Speaker 1: the forty nine Ers. Mike keep tweeting if you want,
- 4:59Speaker 1: but I thought that was important. I'm texting very different.
- 5:02Speaker 1: It's all part of the production. We'll see by the
- 5:05Speaker 1: end of this segment, what I'm doing. Do you want
- 5:07Speaker 1: me to talk about this? No, let's just move on.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Going to another player who's coming off a significant Andrey
- 5:11Speaker 1: Odell Beckham Junior did not play last season following the
- 5:14Speaker 1: torn ACL the retaror of his a cl that he
- 5:16Speaker 1: suffered in the Super Bowl. Obviously, he took a bunch
- 5:18Speaker 1: of visits at the end of last season. Nothing worked out.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Notable today, not a surprise, but notable to hear Sean
- 5:24Speaker 1: McVay talking about the fact that they're open to it.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Even though the Rams are going through this phase and
- 5:29Speaker 1: they moved on from some higher price veterans and they're
- 5:31Speaker 1: valuing draft capital again and clearing up their salary cap.
- 5:34Speaker 1: They saw what Odell could do playing on not a
- 5:37Speaker 1: great ACL when he was making all those plays down
- 5:39Speaker 1: the stretch of the season. Mike, and it sounds like
- 5:41Speaker 1: a reunion, even though mcfah said the other teams involved
- 5:44Speaker 1: is certainly a possibility. There are other teams involved, and
- 5:46Speaker 1: two of them reside in the New York market, the
- 5:49Speaker 1: Jets making it clear yesterday that they be interested. Then
- 5:52Speaker 1: you've got the Giants as well, John Marraw, the owner,
- 5:55Speaker 1: saying that they would welcome Odell Beckham's return to the Giants.
- 5:58Speaker 1: I did ask Brian Dabo about it today. He kind
- 6:00Speaker 1: of punted and said it's more of an answer that
- 6:04Speaker 1: ownership and upper management has to provide. But he did
- 6:07Speaker 1: say they had a good visit with Odell Beckham last year,
- 6:10Speaker 1: good dinner. He called him a good young man. So
- 6:12Speaker 1: we'll see if the Giants and a return there is
- 6:15Speaker 1: in the cards for him. Meanwhile, sticking with the Rams,
- 6:18Speaker 1: McVay saying that Matthew Stafford will have no limitations as
- 6:21Speaker 1: they enter the offseason program. Remember he had a bunch
- 6:23Speaker 1: of he started with the elbow, then it was a
- 6:25Speaker 1: concussion and a neck, But McVay saying that he's got
- 6:28Speaker 1: a full go So they're hopeful. Very much like it's
- 6:31Speaker 1: going to be a reset for Sean McVeagh as the
- 6:33Speaker 1: head coach of this team, they're hopeful it's gonna be
- 6:35Speaker 1: a reset for Matthew Stafford as the quarterback and he
- 6:38Speaker 1: enters the season without any issues, whether it's the arm
- 6:41Speaker 1: or anything else. They feel fully confident in Stafford's ability
- 6:45Speaker 1: to be this team's quarterback. In twenty twenty three, speaking
- 6:47Speaker 1: of quarterbacks, Mike Howie Roseman the Eagles general manager, speaking
- 6:50Speaker 1: yesterday to reporters, said that in the relatively near future,
- 6:54Speaker 1: relatively soon, Yeah, he anticipates extending Jalen Hurts. I don't
- 6:58Speaker 1: know that that's a surprise in any regard, especially the
- 7:01Speaker 1: way that Howe thinks about this. You got Joe Burrow
- 7:03Speaker 1: coming up, you got Justin Herbert coming up. There could
- 7:05Speaker 1: be some big time contracts. Getting the first one done
- 7:08Speaker 1: is something the Eagles have done historically with some other
- 7:10Speaker 1: quarterbacks in the past. Yeah, soon could mean anything. Relatively
- 7:13Speaker 1: soon could really mean anything up until let's say the
- 7:16Speaker 1: start of Week one. But they've been trying to get
- 7:18Speaker 1: this thing done and look, it's affected their other business.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Howie Rosen has made it clear sometimes you run out
- 7:23Speaker 1: of resources. When it came to C. J. Gardner Johnson
- 7:26Speaker 1: unable to get that deal done because this is a
- 7:28Speaker 1: team that really went for it the last couple of years,
- 7:29Speaker 1: knowing that they had a quarterback on a rookie deal.
- 7:32Speaker 1: And now when you're doing a contract that's into the
- 7:34Speaker 1: forty million dollars plus per year range, that's going to
- 7:37Speaker 1: affect your ability to surround him with talent on offense
- 7:41Speaker 1: as well as a defensive side of the ball, so
- 7:43Speaker 1: they're continuing to effort this one. I really thought that
- 7:46Speaker 1: Daniel Jones deal coming in at forty and a base
- 7:49Speaker 1: value did help the Eagles on this one, because if
- 7:51Speaker 1: it was into the low to mid forties all of
- 7:53Speaker 1: a sudden, Jalen Hurts can make a case for while
- 7:55Speaker 1: I should be at fifty, I think it winds up
- 7:57Speaker 1: coming in south of fifty once the sides finally agreed
- 8:00Speaker 1: to a deal, but still gonna be a very nice
- 8:02Speaker 1: payday for Jalen Hurts. Oh. The case can also be
- 8:04Speaker 1: made here too that there's more urgency for the Eagles
- 8:06Speaker 1: because jan Hurts was the second round pick. There is
- 8:08Speaker 1: no fifth year option. He's in a contractor year now,
- 8:11Speaker 1: whereas the Bengals the Chargers still have another year on
- 8:15Speaker 1: top of this into twenty twenty four on that option year.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Ian tell me about what we heard from Jonathan Gannon
- 8:20Speaker 1: today about DeAndre Hopkins. He said it an interview on
- 8:22Speaker 1: Sunday on NFL Network. He reiterated today he said, I'm
- 8:25Speaker 1: operating like DeAndre Hopkins is our starting X. Do we
- 8:29Speaker 1: believe that? And how does DeAndre Hopkins feel about this?
- 8:31Speaker 1: I firmly believe that, Jonathan Gannon knows that there's a
- 8:34Speaker 1: possibility at least of DeAndre Hopkins being his starting X.
- 8:38Speaker 1: That certainly something that would be a little bit of
- 8:41Speaker 1: a surprise to me of that happened, but not impossible.
- 8:44Speaker 1: But it seems what is going on here DeAndre Hopkins
- 8:46Speaker 1: does have permission to speak with teams to seek a trade,
- 8:50Speaker 1: to facilitate a trade, because his contract would have to
- 8:52Speaker 1: be adjusted if a trade ended up happening. But yeah,
- 8:56Speaker 1: I think for planning purposes for the Cardinals, it doesn't
- 8:59Speaker 1: hurt to plan as if Hopkins will be around. I
- 9:01Speaker 1: just know there's interest. He is still a very very
- 9:04Speaker 1: good Seever, he is willing to redo his deal. Knowling
- 9:07Speaker 1: for top of the market money probably ends up to
- 9:10Speaker 1: me just based on the conversations that are ongoing as
- 9:13Speaker 1: a final piece of a really really good team. Um
- 9:17Speaker 1: and you know, for the ariz under the Cardinals, they
- 9:19Speaker 1: probably enter a little bit of a reset here with
- 9:21Speaker 1: a new coach and new general manager in a quarterback
- 9:23Speaker 1: who's probably not gonna be ready to start the season
- 9:25Speaker 1: just thirty days to the NFL Draft, O Marsh, a
- 9:28Speaker 1: lot of these trade conversations we've been talking about for months.
- 9:30Speaker 1: You would think going to be coming to a head soon.
- 9:33Speaker 1: I meanwhile, Mike, are we done with the news? Like
- 9:35Speaker 1: we're done with the part of this Brook control room.
- 9:37Speaker 1: I haven't heard from me. Are we ready? Do we
- 9:39Speaker 1: have that tweet ready to go that I was shipping?
- 9:42Speaker 1: We do? Am? I told that? What do you guys? Remember?
- 9:45Speaker 1: I said here it is right there. Oh my guy,
- 9:49Speaker 1: I didn't care what color you That is a plan
- 9:51Speaker 1: as long as you thought it was a good looking. Look.
- 9:54Speaker 1: My man's juice. Not sure you want to spell out
- 9:57Speaker 1: spell that out for us, smikey As, I believe that
- 10:00Speaker 1: he believe that's my guy. You text him before anything.
- 10:04Speaker 1: That's my guy, or Lando. You know what, he's got
- 10:07Speaker 1: his quarterbacks back, He's got my back as well, Joe
- 10:11Speaker 1: grow or Wow, that's quite the comparison, fellas, and not
- 10:15Speaker 1: just af It's MS going all the way. Mike ar Foo,
- 10:20Speaker 1: Tom Lasaro, thank you all very much. Aaron Rodgers, He's
- 10:24Speaker 1: still a Green Bay Packer. As the Packers and Jets continue,
- 10:28Speaker 1: negotiations don't seem to have much urgency at this point.
- 10:32Speaker 1: The deadline is not until September, but the draft is
- 10:35Speaker 1: a pressure point. Brian Gudencutz was asked about what sort
- 10:39Speaker 1: of compensation he's looking for from the New York Jets
- 10:41Speaker 1: a little earlier at the annual meeting. Brian, do you
- 10:45Speaker 1: have an offer on the table from the Jets? Is that? Yeah,
- 10:48Speaker 1: I'm I gonna get the details so that. We've had
- 10:49Speaker 1: a lot of discussions. You know, I've known Joe for
- 10:51Speaker 1: a long time, and they've been really good discussions and
- 10:53Speaker 1: really you know, cordial, and we'll continue to have those
- 10:55Speaker 1: conversations and hopefully we can come to a greend it
- 10:58Speaker 1: sooner or later. Well, you have talked to Joe here
- 10:59Speaker 1: at all about that specific I already talked to him,
- 11:02Speaker 1: you know, whether we have like you know, sit down
- 11:04Speaker 1: formal or and I thought all of them. But we've
- 11:05Speaker 1: been talking on the phone for a couple of weeks. Now.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Is there any scenario that you'd be comfortable making a
- 11:09Speaker 1: trade without getting a first round pick back? Yeah, I
- 11:12Speaker 1: mean I think you know, um that it's that's not
- 11:15Speaker 1: a necessity. But at the same time, um, you know
- 11:18Speaker 1: the value of the players. He's a premiere player, you know,
- 11:21Speaker 1: so they get their premiere picks back for that is
- 11:24Speaker 1: for players, since that is important, do you have to
- 11:26Speaker 1: have picks this year or would you be willing to
- 11:27Speaker 1: wait till you know future drafts. I think as soon
- 11:30Speaker 1: as the better, you're better. I think certainly, if we
- 11:32Speaker 1: get beyond the draft and everything changes, compensation changes, and
- 11:36Speaker 1: and you know, so that would be a whole different scenaria.
- 11:38Speaker 1: But hopefully we can get this done soon. You know,
- 11:40Speaker 1: it is what it is. And at the same time,
- 11:42Speaker 1: we're excited about Jordan and what he's been able to
- 11:46Speaker 1: how how he's been able to progress as as a quarterback, um,
- 11:51Speaker 1: how he's matured as a man um And you know,
- 11:55Speaker 1: it's going to be a different role for him certainly,
- 11:57Speaker 1: and I think we all have to kind of temper
- 12:00Speaker 1: our expectations with him, you know, for him, Um, it's
- 12:04Speaker 1: just it's different when you're going into a game versus
- 12:08Speaker 1: when you're starting a game, and it's going to be
- 12:11Speaker 1: a process that Matt laflora jacket that is green. Baldi.
- 12:15Speaker 1: I don't know if Mike Garrefolo is still watching, but
- 12:18Speaker 1: he expressed that optimism about Jordan's love as he continues
- 12:21Speaker 1: his development. What are you expecting to see from Jordan's
- 12:24Speaker 1: love in twenty twenty three? Baldi? Well, the facts are Omar.
- 12:28Speaker 1: In that three years, Jordan Love was attempted sixty two
- 12:31Speaker 1: passes and he started one game. It's not much to
- 12:33Speaker 1: go on, but I remember going back to the draft
- 12:37Speaker 1: process when he came out of Utah State, Matt Wells
- 12:39Speaker 1: was his college coach, and he said he needs to
- 12:42Speaker 1: go to a place where he can sit, watch and learn.
- 12:44Speaker 1: He wasn't ready, but he said when he gets that opportunity,
- 12:48Speaker 1: the town will be there. And so you know, if
- 12:50Speaker 1: Batt la Flora says, right now, Omar, we got to
- 12:53Speaker 1: temper our expectations that, I mean, it's only fair. However,
- 12:57Speaker 1: this was an eight nineteen last year that finished offensively
- 13:01Speaker 1: ranked number fourteen in the NFL. They austin Detroit lines,
- 13:05Speaker 1: including Week eighteen twice, and so the expectations are to
- 13:10Speaker 1: finish above five hundred, to have a winning record, no
- 13:13Speaker 1: matter if Jordan Love plays all seventeen games or he does.
- 13:16Speaker 1: I mean, I just believe that's how the Packers think.
- 13:20Speaker 1: That's how Briding Gouda Kinston, Matt Lafleur in that organization things.
- 13:23Speaker 1: I think the guys I have talked to in Green
- 13:26Speaker 1: Bay about Jordan Love say that his time, he's ready
- 13:30Speaker 1: he's ready to lead. Now what that means and how
- 13:34Speaker 1: he plays and how he takes care of the ball
- 13:36Speaker 1: and what he does in the fourth quarter you will
- 13:38Speaker 1: find out. But I think he's ready. I think he's ready.
- 13:42Speaker 1: I think he's done watching and playing back up. I
- 13:45Speaker 1: think he's ready to elevate his game and I'm excited
- 13:48Speaker 1: to watch. However, they got the fifteenth pick in the draft,
- 13:52Speaker 1: omar they get whatever they're gonna get from the New
- 13:54Speaker 1: York Jets, whatever that might be. I think they have
- 13:56Speaker 1: to address the offense, whether it's skilled players a tight
- 14:00Speaker 1: end or receiver, or whether it's offensive linement. I believe, regardless,
- 14:05Speaker 1: have to upgrade the offense around Jordan Love right now.
- 14:07Speaker 1: They literally did not partake in free agency. They sat
- 14:11Speaker 1: on the sidelines. It's kind of their style. But I
- 14:14Speaker 1: believe they need to add pieces around Jordan Love. Yeah,
- 14:17Speaker 1: there's no question. We saw Alan Lazard leave, Robert Tonyan
- 14:20Speaker 1: left the building. Jordan Love, no question. Last time we
- 14:23Speaker 1: saw him an extended period. Look great against the Philadelphia Eagles,
- 14:27Speaker 1: six of nine, one hundred ten yards, passing a touchdown,
- 14:31Speaker 1: no interceptions. Look like it'll be his turn in twenty
- 14:34Speaker 1: twenty three, Brian Buldinger, Thank you very much, stay right there.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Still more from you as we look at some of
- 14:40Speaker 1: the top positions in this year's draft, what are the
- 14:44Speaker 1: deepest ones? Corner, edge, quarterback, receiver, that's all still to
- 14:48Speaker 1: come with Brian Baldinger and our very own Lance Zerline.
- 14:51Speaker 1: That's next right here on NFL Now tie hey. On Thursday,
- 14:58Speaker 1: head over to NFL Plus for extended coverage of the
- 15:01Speaker 1: University of Florida Pro Day. Anthony Richardson takes the few
- 15:05Speaker 1: and aims to top his record setting combined performance before
- 15:09Speaker 1: the twenty twenty three NFL Draft. Thursday, eleven thirty Eastern
- 15:13Speaker 1: only on NFL Plus. Sign up today at plus dot
- 15:17Speaker 1: NFL dot com. Meanwhile, in College Station today Texas A
- 15:21Speaker 1: and N having its pro day. One of the top
- 15:24Speaker 1: running backs in the entire pre draft process has been
- 15:28Speaker 1: Divan A Chain who goes one on one with our
- 15:31Speaker 1: very own Patrick Clayburne. Alright, Devon, this this is it.
- 15:35Speaker 1: This this was the last performance is an Aggie? How
- 15:37Speaker 1: do you feel about? Um? I felt great, man. No,
- 15:40Speaker 1: I'm just thanking for the opportunities. Good to be able
- 15:41Speaker 1: to come out here in showcase my skill in front
- 15:44Speaker 1: of you know, my my coaches from AIM and also
- 15:48Speaker 1: you know some hopefully my future coaches. So it was
- 15:50Speaker 1: just good to be out here, you know, um like
- 15:52Speaker 1: saying last work out AIM, and I just want to
- 15:54Speaker 1: be you know, cherished every moment of being here. I say,
- 15:57Speaker 1: I'd be here three years and were by incredibly fast,
- 16:00Speaker 1: So I'm just thankful and Blason man, speaking of incredibly
- 16:03Speaker 1: fast you have that time in Indy, was getting ready
- 16:06Speaker 1: for the day a little bit easier as you would
- 16:08Speaker 1: already posted that incredible time. Um yeah, I feel like,
- 16:11Speaker 1: um no, the come I ain't. I'll probably a little
- 16:13Speaker 1: nervous at the going into my first run, but once
- 16:16Speaker 1: I know do some one time, I feel like pretty
- 16:19Speaker 1: get pretty easy for me. So you know, I'm gonna
- 16:21Speaker 1: heard this something. You know, you're just working out man,
- 16:22Speaker 1: Like you said, we're gonna practice every day. It just
- 16:24Speaker 1: it was just normal. It just you know a lot
- 16:26Speaker 1: of coaches out here. So it was just like a
- 16:28Speaker 1: normal day for me and just regular practice day, a
- 16:30Speaker 1: normal day, regular practice day. Looking ahead to uh what
- 16:34Speaker 1: happens when you start your career, because obviously you have
- 16:36Speaker 1: the incredible time there, then people start the nitpick. There's
- 16:41Speaker 1: the size concerns, the way can he can he be
- 16:43Speaker 1: three down, four down? How do you approach going into
- 16:46Speaker 1: that next time? To answer those questions? UM No, I
- 16:49Speaker 1: feel like, um, you know, I have never I never
- 16:51Speaker 1: had a problem problem with my songs. You know, everybody
- 16:53Speaker 1: got there, um own opinion. I just feel like, no,
- 16:56Speaker 1: as long as I you know, stay come fan, don't
- 16:58Speaker 1: get relaxed. I feel like I can play every down
- 16:59Speaker 1: and I can play the best. So I don't really
- 17:01Speaker 1: feed into if he was on pis so everybody gonna
- 17:03Speaker 1: have one. So I just come out here. Hey man,
- 17:05Speaker 1: just keep showing the world. You know what I can
- 17:07Speaker 1: do and what's what's the next step for you? You You
- 17:09Speaker 1: got business plan anything like that? You ain't know. A
- 17:12Speaker 1: couple of visits, m fortunately, you know, this was my
- 17:14Speaker 1: last workout, so you know, got six visits, and you know,
- 17:17Speaker 1: I just want to, you know, go there, you know,
- 17:19Speaker 1: look at each team. You know, hopefully you know, I
- 17:21Speaker 1: guess picked up by somebody and looking at the landscape
- 17:24Speaker 1: of running backs. We just saw squar and get franchise tag.
- 17:27Speaker 1: We Tony Pollard getting franchise tag? Are you thinking about that?
- 17:31Speaker 1: That next thing is that does that enter your mind
- 17:33Speaker 1: at all in terms of making the decision on how
- 17:37Speaker 1: to approach positioning and going into the draft or anything
- 17:39Speaker 1: like that. Um, I would say that, you know, it
- 17:42Speaker 1: worries me, but you know, I feel like, you know,
- 17:43Speaker 1: that's the lead. It's a business, so you never know
- 17:45Speaker 1: what can happen. So I just want to go into
- 17:47Speaker 1: the lead, you know, just you know, be there to
- 17:49Speaker 1: be straightforward, you know, just be prepared for anything because
- 17:51Speaker 1: you never know what happened. So I just want to
- 17:52Speaker 1: make sure that you know, I'm very well prepared. All right,
- 17:56Speaker 1: Thank you both very much. Here's Bucky Brooks mock Draft
- 17:59Speaker 1: three point zero. He has quarterbacks going one, two, and
- 18:02Speaker 1: then seven of the rest of the top ten defensive players,
- 18:07Speaker 1: Peter Scronsky at a Northwestern the lone remaining offensive player there.
- 18:11Speaker 1: In Bucky Brooks Mock Draft three point zero. For much
- 18:14Speaker 1: more on how deep this draft is at certain positions
- 18:17Speaker 1: that's welcome in the Land zero line and Brian Baldinger
- 18:20Speaker 1: Lance's nfl dot Com Slash zero line, you can find
- 18:23Speaker 1: the article on these positions and last week, gentlemen, I
- 18:27Speaker 1: was out at the University of Utah Pro Day and
- 18:29Speaker 1: had a chance to meet Clark Phillips, who was one
- 18:31Speaker 1: of the top prospect I have ever met in terms
- 18:34Speaker 1: of his production, how confident he was, and he's not
- 18:37Speaker 1: on most of the top cornerback list that I've seen.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Lance speaks to the depth of the cornerback position in
- 18:43Speaker 1: this year's draft. Well, it's a really deep class. You know,
- 18:46Speaker 1: when you look at the cornerback class, You've got a
- 18:49Speaker 1: couple of guys to me who are going to be
- 18:50Speaker 1: inside the top ten picks, and that's Christian Gonzalez from Oregon,
- 18:54Speaker 1: who has incredible traits. He's a big guy, he's very fast,
- 18:58Speaker 1: he's very explosive, but he's unbelievably fluid for his size.
- 19:02Speaker 1: And then you've got Devin Witherspoon, who is, you know,
- 19:04Speaker 1: the best playmaker in the draft, the best ballhawk in
- 19:07Speaker 1: the draft. So those two cornerbacks in and of themselves
- 19:11Speaker 1: have star potential inside the first ten picks. But once
- 19:14Speaker 1: you get past there, you still have guys like Joey
- 19:17Speaker 1: Porter Junior from Penn State, who I think is very
- 19:20Speaker 1: capable as a press man corner. You've got Deontay Banks,
- 19:23Speaker 1: who had a phenomenal combine and has a great upside,
- 19:28Speaker 1: high upside You've got DJ Turner from my from Michigan,
- 19:32Speaker 1: who really had we had the fastest combine out there,
- 19:35Speaker 1: but I think his tape is some of the smoothest
- 19:37Speaker 1: hit you'll find. This is a good year if you
- 19:40Speaker 1: need cornerbacks stopping all these high impact receivers, You've got
- 19:44Speaker 1: some guys this year you can target, you know, Lance,
- 19:49Speaker 1: I'm just looking at Bucky Brooks's latest month draft. He's
- 19:51Speaker 1: got four edge rushers in the top ten, starting with
- 19:55Speaker 1: Will Anderson, Tyree Smith right there, Lucas van Nest going
- 19:59Speaker 1: number eight, and then he's got an old Smith number
- 20:01Speaker 1: ten to the Philadelphia Whether that may or may not happen, No,
- 20:05Speaker 1: but you just keep going down the list of edge rushers,
- 20:09Speaker 1: you know, whether it's Voles Murphy or Keyon White or
- 20:12Speaker 1: Isaiah Fosky, like you just keep Will McDonald before out
- 20:16Speaker 1: of Iowa state. It is a deep draft for edge rushers.
- 20:20Speaker 1: I know you're looking at all that and you go, Okay,
- 20:22Speaker 1: how are you slotting all these guys and where does
- 20:24Speaker 1: the rugs start? Right, Lance? And then the position the
- 20:29Speaker 1: other position to me group to me is just the
- 20:31Speaker 1: interior offensive lineman, which we always kind of ignore. But
- 20:35Speaker 1: I just feel like there's gonna be a real run
- 20:38Speaker 1: at centers and guards in this draft because I think
- 20:42Speaker 1: there's just a number of guys that have position flexibility
- 20:46Speaker 1: and they're really worth the value as well. Hey, Lance,
- 20:49Speaker 1: when you talk about tight end, it's a position that
- 20:51Speaker 1: a lot of people say, Ah, maybe we don't spend
- 20:53Speaker 1: a first round pick there, but this unit is particularly deep.
- 20:56Speaker 1: What are your thoughts on the tight ends in this
- 20:58Speaker 1: year's Well, it's it's the deepest unit that I've seen
- 21:01Speaker 1: in a long long time. I mean at the top end,
- 21:04Speaker 1: I think that you start, you know you're gonna be
- 21:06Speaker 1: looking at a player and there's big Darnell Washington. I mean,
- 21:09Speaker 1: that guy's a monster down in the red zone. But
- 21:12Speaker 1: Dalton Kinkaid gives you the best pure hands catching, pass
- 21:16Speaker 1: catching slot tight end. You've got Michael Mayer there, who's
- 21:19Speaker 1: the best why tight end of the entire group. And
- 21:22Speaker 1: then Luke Musgrave from Oregon State, who I think has
- 21:24Speaker 1: a great combination of all of the traits that you're
- 21:27Speaker 1: looking for. So it really matters. It really depends on
- 21:30Speaker 1: what you're looking for. Do you want a Why, then
- 21:32Speaker 1: you've got one guy. If you want a pass catching
- 21:34Speaker 1: guy in a slot, you've got another one. Musgrave has
- 21:36Speaker 1: a lot of the combination of things you want. Just
- 21:38Speaker 1: a big bully, and that's gonna be Darnell Washington. And
- 21:41Speaker 1: we haven't even gotten a Luke Schoonmaker from Michigan, who
- 21:44Speaker 1: I think is also going to be taken inside the
- 21:46Speaker 1: top fifty. I think five tight ends go inside the
- 21:49Speaker 1: top fifty, and I think three tight ends going to
- 21:51Speaker 1: first round this year. That is something we have not
- 21:54Speaker 1: seen in a long time. Hey, that's the kind of
- 21:56Speaker 1: bold take we like here on NFL lands. Three tight
- 21:59Speaker 1: ends in the first round this year. Well, I mean, listen,
- 22:04Speaker 1: wide receives get all the love right. Pass catchers are
- 22:07Speaker 1: catching passes two their touchdown makers too. Ask Travis Kelsey
- 22:11Speaker 1: if it's an important position, as Gronk, if it's asked
- 22:14Speaker 1: Tom Brady if it's an important position once he lost Gronk.
- 22:17Speaker 1: It's a big deal these days, and that's why I
- 22:19Speaker 1: think teams are prioritizing that position. Yeah, especially when you
- 22:22Speaker 1: have some of that Kyle Shanahan offense all over the
- 22:24Speaker 1: NFL trying to mask the tight end in the block
- 22:28Speaker 1: game and the pass game certainly as important as ever.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Brian Baldinger zero line as important as ever for us well.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Speaking of the draft, we are now thirty days away
- 22:39Speaker 1: as a countdown continues to Round one in Kansas City,
- 22:43Speaker 1: April twenty seventh, right here on NFL Network begins at
- 22:46Speaker 1: eight o'clock Eastern, of course, kicking off three days of
- 22:50Speaker 1: the twenty twenty three NFL Draft. We cannot wait for that. Meanwhile,
- 22:55Speaker 1: we're expecting to hear Peter Scronski's name called early in
- 23:00Speaker 1: this draft. Here is his first draft Terronski of the
- 23:06Speaker 1: tough rated offensive tackle. A style of play is technically
- 23:10Speaker 1: domine guy, not too about to play every single down
- 23:15Speaker 1: to fourth quarters. Speed up on him and make him quit.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Peter Skronsky, offensive leman, Northwestern University. I'm from park Ridge, Illinois.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Group of Packers fan in Chicago, which is kind of
- 23:29Speaker 1: fun living and diving with the Packers. My grandfather's name
- 23:34Speaker 1: is Bob Scarnsky. He played for the Packers in the
- 23:37Speaker 1: nineteen sixties under a Vince Lombardi, starting left tackle offensive captain,
- 23:44Speaker 1: won five NFL championships, including two Super Bowls. I think
- 23:50Speaker 1: the left tackle position has changed a lot since, you know,
- 23:53Speaker 1: the nineteen sixties, but I think just his mentality of
- 23:56Speaker 1: being consistent and being someone that can be relied on
- 23:59Speaker 1: by his Team's inspiring to me and something I strive
- 24:02Speaker 1: for it. I didn't play tackle football until sixth grade,
- 24:09Speaker 1: which is a little bit later than most people. My
- 24:13Speaker 1: dad was one of my first coaches. He's a very
- 24:15Speaker 1: stern coach and kind of a disciplinarian. It's always funny
- 24:20Speaker 1: seeing other kids react to, like just how like discipline
- 24:23Speaker 1: my dad is as a coach, ten push ups when
- 24:26Speaker 1: they weren't listening or talking while he was talking. He's
- 24:29Speaker 1: strictly like that. At times with this process, I've kind
- 24:33Speaker 1: of stopped and been like, oh, wow, this is really happening.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Draft night will be my biggest sort of a wild
- 24:39Speaker 1: moment that this is really happening. It's just for the
- 24:41Speaker 1: culmination of what I've dreamed about since I was a kid.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Found my dream, but found my grandfather's footsteps. Carrying nuts
- 24:47Speaker 1: Crossky name's Kronski getting ready to go up against guys
- 24:53Speaker 1: like Jay Vaughan hard Grade, the former Eagle now current
- 24:57Speaker 1: forty nine ers set to join us next right here
- 25:00Speaker 1: on NFL. Now that goes down the hill, he steps
- 25:09Speaker 1: up the years he got him sec number one, hard Grave.
- 25:14Speaker 1: Fantastic job, Becos Bill. He's hitting Hey Sacks, I'm Canna's
- 25:18Speaker 1: hard Grave humps and they hit him again up the tay,
- 25:24Speaker 1: Javon Hardgrave. They are killing the walking's gone off by
- 25:28Speaker 1: the line. One of the top defensive linemen in all
- 25:32Speaker 1: of football, and he got paid like it during free agency.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Former Philadelphia Eagle and former Pittsburgh Steeler and now current
- 25:41Speaker 1: San Francisco forty nine or Javon Hardgrave Javon. I think
- 25:44Speaker 1: there's been a lot of years have gone by mispronouncing
- 25:48Speaker 1: your name. We've all been saying Javon for years. What
- 25:51Speaker 1: finally took it for you to say, Hey, my name
- 25:53Speaker 1: is Javon Javon Hargrave. Nah. I always correct people, but
- 25:58Speaker 1: once you once, you mess it up about once as
- 26:01Speaker 1: far as I don't even say anymore. So this has
- 26:04Speaker 1: been my h It's just it's just been going on
- 26:07Speaker 1: my whole life. So I just kind of let it be. Well,
- 26:10Speaker 1: I'm glad you said something. We're happy to say. Jay
- 26:12Speaker 1: Von Hardgrave, welcome to NFL now here. Jay Von. You're
- 26:15Speaker 1: going from one of the top defensive pass rushing units
- 26:18Speaker 1: in all football last year. Really you guys put up
- 26:21Speaker 1: historical numbers with the Eagles, and now you're joining forces
- 26:24Speaker 1: with the number one ranked defense last year in the
- 26:27Speaker 1: San Francisco forty nine Ers. How might your role differ
- 26:30Speaker 1: here between the two teams. I don't know. I haven't
- 26:34Speaker 1: really thought about it. I just know I'm going into
- 26:36Speaker 1: a great situation. So I just I'm gonna just come
- 26:41Speaker 1: bring what I bring and try to play some of
- 26:44Speaker 1: my best football for the forty nine ers and see
- 26:47Speaker 1: where they Taitan, Well, what do you bring, jay Von
- 26:50Speaker 1: in terms of adding to the mix with Nick Bosa,
- 26:52Speaker 1: Eric Armstead and some of those other great players with
- 26:54Speaker 1: the forty nine ers. I think I just bring. I'm
- 26:58Speaker 1: just a professional. I think I just come in and
- 27:02Speaker 1: put my head down and get the word. Really talk
- 27:06Speaker 1: too much? I man, I do talk. I talk a lot,
- 27:08Speaker 1: but I don't really be a distraction or anything. But
- 27:13Speaker 1: I just go to working trying to Like I said,
- 27:15Speaker 1: I'm just trying to play some of my best football
- 27:17Speaker 1: for these years to come. Well, we heard one of
- 27:20Speaker 1: your current teammates, now, George Kittle, talk a lot before
- 27:23Speaker 1: that NFC Championship game. You mentioned that Nick Sirianni used
- 27:26Speaker 1: some of those comments as motivation before that game. Now
- 27:29Speaker 1: that he's your teammate, do you discourage him from saying
- 27:32Speaker 1: some of those comments going forward. I mean, I'm not
- 27:35Speaker 1: gonna change nobody from being now. Uh, but might I
- 27:41Speaker 1: might say a little bit. I might tell him what
- 27:43Speaker 1: kind of what we did when he said some of
- 27:45Speaker 1: the things that he said, they kind of motivated us.
- 27:49Speaker 1: But like I mean, some people just talk junk and
- 27:52Speaker 1: some people, you know, that's that's how they performed. That's
- 27:55Speaker 1: that's the thing. But uh, yeah, I wouldn't and I
- 27:58Speaker 1: wouldn't discourage him from being him. Yeah, George Kettle one
- 28:01Speaker 1: of our favorite players and all of the NFL. We
- 28:03Speaker 1: love his personality, one of the many great personalities in
- 28:07Speaker 1: that locker room. You're coming from a locker room in
- 28:09Speaker 1: Philadelphia that was full of great personalities. How do you
- 28:11Speaker 1: think you fit into the locker room culture there? Oh,
- 28:14Speaker 1: I think I'm fitting great. Uh. Like I said, I
- 28:17Speaker 1: don't really do too much. I just cracked jokes and
- 28:21Speaker 1: really get the work. I ain't a jump person, so
- 28:25Speaker 1: I don't sit there and talk about nobody. I think
- 28:28Speaker 1: I fit in pretty pretty good. Like I said, I
- 28:30Speaker 1: just really want to come in and just get the
- 28:32Speaker 1: working you know, bring with our bringing to the table. Well,
- 28:35Speaker 1: you're one of the new faces there with the forty
- 28:37Speaker 1: nine ers defense. They have a new defensive coordinator in
- 28:40Speaker 1: Steve Wilkes, taking over for Damiko Ryans. What do you
- 28:43Speaker 1: know about Steve Wilkes and his defensive philosophy. One, I
- 28:47Speaker 1: know he big on a four three and that's as
- 28:51Speaker 1: one of the things that really caught my interest when
- 28:53Speaker 1: I was trying to pick some of the teams that
- 28:55Speaker 1: I wanted to go to. And he a Carolina boy,
- 28:59Speaker 1: So we were sitting there chopping it up and talking
- 29:00Speaker 1: about some of the food spies now here in Charlotte
- 29:04Speaker 1: and North Carolina back home, so we got a lot
- 29:07Speaker 1: in common. Yeah, Max Barbecue one of my favorite spots
- 29:10Speaker 1: there in Charlotte. In the Carolina's yesterday, you're general manager
- 29:14Speaker 1: John Lynch made some headlines saying that Brock Purty earned
- 29:16Speaker 1: the right to be QB one. They're in San Francisco
- 29:19Speaker 1: when he's healthy. Obviously you prepared for Brock Purtty in
- 29:22Speaker 1: that NFC Championship game. What did you see from the
- 29:25Speaker 1: young forty nine er player? Man, we just know he
- 29:28Speaker 1: could really escape the pocket and make plays with his feet.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Like before that game, I didn't really know much about him,
- 29:35Speaker 1: but when we were sitting there watching film, we just
- 29:38Speaker 1: seen how hard it was for people to try to
- 29:39Speaker 1: come bring him down, how he kept a standing plays
- 29:42Speaker 1: with his feeding, getting out the pocket and throwing the
- 29:45Speaker 1: ball downfield. So, like I said, we we just know
- 29:48Speaker 1: he's a pretty good football player. And I guess I
- 29:51Speaker 1: just can't wait to see him get him back and
- 29:53Speaker 1: see see how you do for us. Yeah, of course,
- 29:55Speaker 1: Trey Land Sam Darnold also in the forty nine quarterback room,
- 29:59Speaker 1: You're not the only new member to the NFC West.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Your former defensive coordinator there with the Philadelphia Eagles now
- 30:05Speaker 1: head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. What kind of head
- 30:08Speaker 1: coach are the Cardinals getting there? With Jonathan gannon Man,
- 30:11Speaker 1: He's a players coach. I think every every every week
- 30:16Speaker 1: he come up to the players and ask them, you know,
- 30:18Speaker 1: just ask them some of some personal things about their
- 30:20Speaker 1: life or even for football purpose. He just he come
- 30:24Speaker 1: talk to us and ask us what we like and
- 30:26Speaker 1: what we want for this week. So he just somebody
- 30:28Speaker 1: you can really talk to as a coach. And I
- 30:31Speaker 1: think I got I got some players and I played
- 30:33Speaker 1: with over there and tell them they're getting a real
- 30:35Speaker 1: good dude and a good coach, and he just, uh,
- 30:38Speaker 1: he gonna be a great fit for a Z Harry Carson,
- 30:43Speaker 1: Donnie Shell, Pro Football Hall of famers from South Carolina State,
- 30:48Speaker 1: Shack Leonard of course of the Indianapolis Colts, yourself carrying
- 30:52Speaker 1: on that tradition of those proud South Carolina State alum.
- 30:56Speaker 1: How much probably do you take in that and representing
- 30:58Speaker 1: the HBCUs out there in the NFL. I mean, that's
- 31:02Speaker 1: a bit that was a big thing when I was
- 31:03Speaker 1: coming out. You know, some of some of the greats
- 31:06Speaker 1: like Harry and Robert Borchets, they kind of told me
- 31:11Speaker 1: I had I like, basically it was on me if
- 31:14Speaker 1: if I did bad, it was gonna make a bad
- 31:16Speaker 1: look for South Carolina State. So I kind of carried
- 31:19Speaker 1: that with me when I got into the league, and
- 31:22Speaker 1: like I said, I just they just kind of helped
- 31:24Speaker 1: me become who I was and just made that work
- 31:27Speaker 1: that it's so much harder for me, and I'm just
- 31:30Speaker 1: blessed to be able to represent them, and you know,
- 31:33Speaker 1: just put on from my HBCU. That's a lot of
- 31:35Speaker 1: pressure there, Jay von No, there ain't no pressure. It's
- 31:39Speaker 1: something I love. You know, when you were doing something,
- 31:41Speaker 1: it ain't really too much pressure for you. Just uh,
- 31:44Speaker 1: when you really putting in the work, and you putting
- 31:47Speaker 1: in the work, it's really no pressure. It's kind of
- 31:48Speaker 1: easy for you. It's just like I said, you just
- 31:50Speaker 1: put your head down and get the work. Or you've
- 31:53Speaker 1: responded in every way. We can't wait to see what
- 31:55Speaker 1: you do with the twenty twenty three forty nine ers.
- 31:58Speaker 1: Javon Hargrave, thank you so much for joining us. Thank you,
- 32:02Speaker 1: thank y'all for having NFL Now is a production of
