- 0:15from the track to the rodeo we talk that talk splits on the
- 0:18watch, but we still take the Mick Dean in Perth with the long
- 0:20run legs go and bring the fire when the session gets thick.
- 0:23Ryan in the mix with the numbers and plans from everything, the
- 0:25medals, Yeah, we break it all down hard graft Monday left
- 0:28about a Sunday still. Hello and welcome back to the
- 0:33Easy Double Podcast. Shit, what episode are we?
- 0:36Just a good start. Episode 56.
- 0:40I don't know. I'm joined on the eve.
- 0:45Of Saint Patrick's Day by. Our Irish man himself.
- 0:49How you doing, Owen Smith? Good.
- 0:52As far as like public holidays go, this is up there with my
- 0:55least favorites. Yeah, everywhere at the main
- 0:59cities are just full of like tourists dressing green.
- 1:04Yeah, that's why I'm working tomorrow.
- 1:07I'd rather like get the day in a bit am holiday from it.
- 1:12So I'm no, no, it's good. And we're on episode 56 as well.
- 1:16There we go. I'll also welcome Dean Menzies
- 1:19because I reckon he's got a question or two about Saint
- 1:21Patrick's Day in Ireland. How you doing, Dean?
- 1:24Good mate. Yeah I am surprised you didn't.
- 1:27You're not a big fan given you love to split the G of a
- 1:30Guinness. I thought so.
- 1:31It tastes like shit. Do it.
- 1:38Do Irish people get rattled by how attached and involved
- 1:42English people get with pad these day and just use it as an
- 1:44excuse to drink and stuff? It's massive in all the UNI's
- 1:48isn't it? Yeah, I don't think that.
- 1:51I don't think Irish people care, to be honest.
- 1:53Like, I wouldn't mind. I think Saint Patrick is Welsh.
- 1:55I don't even think he is Irish. So.
- 1:59Yeah, I. Don't know.
- 2:02So there'll be there'll be plenty else.
- 2:05Will people be going on tonight as well or just drinking
- 2:07tomorrow? I'm not really sure to be.
- 2:10I haven't been out drinking. I don't know how long.
- 2:13I'd say it would be tonight because then you've got the day
- 2:16off work tomorrow to recover. And what, what will you do with
- 2:21that double take? Yeah, exactly.
- 2:25No, I actually have to hold myself back this week.
- 2:28I don't want to increase the load too much.
- 2:30So I'll do some sort of session in the morning and then I might
- 2:34hop on the stationary bike in the evening.
- 2:36Get on the block, get on the locker.
- 2:37Like the like. Yeah.
- 2:39Cup. Yeah, I see.
- 2:40To see that copying used to. Maybe he's only human.
- 2:49We could take you nothing or two TTT within next.
- 2:54Week. What would the more mature Irish
- 2:57market? How would they celebrate Paddy's
- 2:59Day? Like middle-aged people, older
- 3:00people who aren't like, just going on the lash.
- 3:05I don't know, like people like if you have kids, you might
- 3:08bring them like a parade. Like I think you avoid Dublin at
- 3:11all costs because Dublin just comes to a standstill with that
- 3:14big parade. And be honest, praise are so
- 3:16shit, just like firemen and fucking police walking up and in
- 3:19the street. Then you've got the like a band
- 3:22playing shit music. Some shit floats.
- 3:26Yeah, it's it's very over it use.
- 3:31You do understand his main? Just scrubbing that off the
- 3:33bucket list. Dublin to Saint Patrick's Day.
- 3:39Yeah, give that one a wild best. I think you're better off going
- 3:41to like America where like they die some river green or
- 3:44something. I think that'll be killer.
- 3:46That's in Boston. I think isn't it they do that
- 3:48thing. Or Chicago, one of them.
- 3:52Yeah, Americans Lover. Anyway, we've got a big episode.
- 3:57It's the episode of the half marathons, by the looks of
- 4:00things. We had Bath half Marathon, New
- 4:02York City Half Marathon, Malaga half marathon and then Barcelona
- 4:07marathon to cover, as well as some results from Adelaide.
- 4:10Few news items including Kipchogi announcing a very
- 4:15special location for a marathon later this year.
- 4:18Bit of drama going on in the NCAA's this weekend and the
- 4:22World Indoors teams were announced which hasn't come
- 4:25without controversy. We'll have our training weeks,
- 4:29YouTube Diaries and Double Trouble as normal.
- 4:33So we released episode 2 of London Colon last week.
- 4:36I don't know, have you fellas got round to listen to it?
- 4:38How did you find it? I have, yeah, very easily.
- 4:43Easy Listening had me smiling or laughing quite a bit, which was
- 4:48good. Jake Smith was very transparent
- 4:53about his plans and stuff for the race this weekend.
- 4:56Was he like, it was cool and fair play to him to 1, come on
- 5:00the podcast and say what he's going to do And then two, with
- 5:03what he was saying in terms of like from running and taking it
- 5:06on, then going and doing that as well.
- 5:10Yeah, you could. I mean, was it?
- 5:12It's such a shame. Could you?
- 5:15I wouldn't listen to the live stream.
- 5:17Like I tried connecting to the audio stream and it was a pain
- 5:21in the ass. So did you get coverage of it?
- 5:23I think I was on some like local radio station because I
- 5:26commented on some post and then yeah, the Bath FM or whatever
- 5:32and replied. But I didn't even try like to
- 5:35honestly listen to it. I'd rather just watch it.
- 5:37So I tried to just get to the stream and then you have to do
- 5:40like this phrase. 7th day trial, put in all your details and you
- 5:43avoid. Yeah, it's for sure.
- 5:46But from the Instagram clips, I could say on Jack's story, it
- 5:49looked like he was put Yeah, putting it to him early.
- 5:53Wasn't he doing a lot of the lading?
- 5:56But like, if you were, if you were him, how else would you
- 5:59have tried to like, win that race?
- 6:01I feel like that's the only way he wins it, where he goes out
- 6:03hard and just trying to burn them because all them boys are
- 6:06so fast. I think I might have seen him
- 6:09years ago in a group and then at at about 40 minutes, just
- 6:13absolutely put the hammer down. You know, that part and a half
- 6:16where you sort of like as the first ten KS, you often might
- 6:21feel all right. And then at some point it just
- 6:23starts to get really hard. So I mean, I I think, yeah,
- 6:26exactly. Like fair play to him.
- 6:28Like it's the best strategy is to run hard.
- 6:31Maybe the only other thing is you wait until you know that
- 6:34point where you start, everyone starts to question themselves
- 6:36and you go fuck it and just go full sand and hope you hit him.
- 6:42I don't even think 10 boys, like would be questioning themselves.
- 6:45The boys can run like 61. No, no.
- 6:48And and the problem is the later you leave it and and therefore,
- 6:51if the pace is off, the more you, you, you likely play into
- 6:55their hands anyway. Like it's yeah, it's it's a
- 6:58pretty tough task. He don't know he could.
- 7:02Yeah, yeah, yeah, which was cool, right.
- 7:05Like what it how? How much better than just doing
- 7:07the easy thing of sitting in and losing in a Sprint.
- 7:12But yeah, anyway. It's it's class being able to
- 7:15speak to them all in the in the build up to London Marathon.
- 7:18But then the fact that they're all racing as part of this build
- 7:21as well makes it like even more exciting with Tim runners PB and
- 7:25then now Jake's going back to Berlin a couple of weeks to race
- 7:28another half marathon. So it's, yeah, value for money,
- 7:33even though there's no money involved.
- 7:35And as you sort of foreshadowing in the commentary of them and
- 7:39their predictions, like every, you know, they won't know
- 7:42necessarily exactly what they want to do until a bit closer to
- 7:45but this threshold shape that they're in this half marathon
- 7:49shape. They're pretty similar, right,
- 7:52like in terms of Tim and and Jake Smith's, which is which is
- 7:58exciting just as a head to head like for us to to follow and
- 8:02then Jack around to Japan is it was likely going to be
- 8:07aerobically that, you know, going to do more mileage than
- 8:10anyone. So can he's can he close the gap
- 8:13in in that regard? It's pretty cool.
- 8:16And as per his response to the question of how do you determine
- 8:19race pace, what he says, what's he say?
- 8:25Like you basically you forget about it and just get attached
- 8:29to whatever number you want. He's going to put himself in
- 8:31their conversation anyway. Is he?
- 8:34Yeah, exactly. So good.
- 8:35His race, his race pace is 2/09/30, whatever that is.
- 8:40Divide by 42.2. Yeah.
- 8:45So yeah, that's good. I'm sure you have been
- 8:49listening, but yeah, we'll that episode come in in the next week
- 8:54or so. And then Owen, I believe we have
- 8:57an interview lined up this week. No spoilers, but talk to us
- 9:01about that. Yeah, so we've got an interview
- 9:04with a really one of the biggest distance runners in the whole
- 9:10world. World medalist sees everyone
- 9:14knows them. We're world record holder.
- 9:17I think maybe not, but yeah, you, yeah, you won't want to
- 9:23miss this one. Yeah.
- 9:26And I don't. Ryan again, I don't know how you
- 9:28do this, how you get these lads on, but I'm fair play.
- 9:34Yeah, really looking forward to that one.
- 9:37Hopefully it'll be me and you and maybe Dean will join us as
- 9:42well. But we'll we'll have fun either
- 9:45way. Oh, did I say world record?
- 9:48I think I mean European at one stage.
- 9:52European record holder, anyway. All right, so let's go into some
- 9:58results then. So we'll start in the UK with
- 10:03the buff half. We've kind of just covered it
- 10:04off, but this was the we previewed that last week in
- 10:07terms of the. It was the.
- 10:09Qualifying race for the road running championships, which
- 10:12have been held in Copenhagen later this year.
- 10:16Qualifying for the British boys and girls that is and the fields
- 10:20were incredibly deep and Jake Smith spoke to his tactics and
- 10:25how he wanted to run the race on the London call an episode.
- 10:29So it went somewhat how Jake kind of predicted and that Joe
- 10:35Wigfield won the race from Phil Sussman, Alfie Manthorpe and
- 10:39Jake Smith was four times being 62 minutes, 7 for Joe's win.
- 10:44And then 6 seconds back was Phil Sessman and Alfie Mann Thorpe, 7
- 10:49seconds back. So 62136214 for them.
- 10:53Jake Smith a little bit further back in 6231 and then a
- 10:58considerable drop off to 5th place and still very fast 6356.
- 11:05But yeah, we were all desperate for a live stream of this
- 11:08weren't me because I think felt so involved, like kind of been
- 11:12following Joe's journey, Phil Sussman's journey through
- 11:15YouTube, Alfie's on YouTube and he's always all of these races
- 11:19And obviously Jake Smith so transparent whenever he speaks.
- 11:22So considering it was like bath half as in a bit of an
- 11:27understated race, really such a such a good field and would have
- 11:32been an amazing watch. But yeah, what have you seen of
- 11:35it and what do you think the results?
- 11:37Like, that's even at the top end.
- 11:39But like Ryan Thompson, he came 10th.
- 11:42He's another really good runner. And YouTube.
- 11:44Hugo Fry was 11th, another YouTube.
- 11:46And then Cole Gibbons was 17th. Like it was absolutely stacked.
- 11:54And yeah, I just can't believe the organizers.
- 11:56Like you see these lads on the start list and like that it's
- 11:59deep. Like top 20 broke like 67 around
- 12:04that M It's so, so deep. Like how they didn't put live
- 12:07stream on like, yeah, it's just shit.
- 12:11It's like like, and they even did a good job of sort of like
- 12:15they all all these guys were calling out.
- 12:16They were targeting this. They've obviously lined it up.
- 12:19Was it just the first person that got automatic selection for
- 12:25the world half marathon champs? I think the top two top 2.
- 12:30So like, doesn't that like in and of itself, like it, it
- 12:35becomes a draw card race, the excitement of running your way
- 12:38onto a team, like that's exciting, like, and and it's
- 12:44really well placed ahead of the London Marathon.
- 12:47Like and it is not that expensive to get a stream now,
- 12:53right? Like I wouldn't have thought all
- 12:55the equipment and stuff, like in terms of technology wouldn't you
- 12:58wouldn't think it would be that hard, but it's a shame.
- 13:02There was some good interviews that come out of it afterwards
- 13:04though I can't remember quite. I think Sunday podcasts were
- 13:08involved with it, but maybe there's an account called
- 13:10Activate the Banners and they've been posting interviews with
- 13:15Joe, with Phil and with Jake I've seen.
- 13:18I haven't seen one with Alfie but I'm sure there will be 1.
- 13:21So like the the narrative beforehand is good, then you get
- 13:25the race results, you get the reflections afterwards.
- 13:28All's you're missing is actually seeing what happened, which is
- 13:31quite ironic. Did you say though some of the
- 13:34clips of like 5 people on a bike in front of the lead bikes like
- 13:38a little group of them, I could just take someone just have a
- 13:42phone or you know, one of those handheld Gopros or something
- 13:46that's just streamed something like we've seen that.
- 13:49Remember when the Inside Running podcast Croaker did that for,
- 13:55well, Aussie cross country champs?
- 13:57Like it didn't have to be much more than that.
- 13:59You just, you get enough of an appreciation to follow the
- 14:03races. It's unfolding.
- 14:05Yeah, just get the Instagram Live going.
- 14:07Yeah. Which you know, Matt Sadden from
- 14:13Sunday podcast, you sent a video through to our Instagram chat
- 14:17earlier in the week, Dean of Race in Battersea Park.
- 14:21I think it was like a 5K1. And Matt said, and I don't know
- 14:25if you can, well, you could probably tell from that was him
- 14:27from his voice. But then in the background, he's
- 14:30on a bike, isn't he? I don't know if you've seen
- 14:32this. And how good was he's?
- 14:33My commentary so good. Like the insight he's giving as
- 14:38he's like who they are and like what they're shooting for and
- 14:42the like all on the fly. And it was.
- 14:45Great, he's peddling as they're like kicking the last couple 100
- 14:48meters of a 5K. Yeah.
- 14:53But yeah, I think with this one, there's interestingly there's
- 14:56four spaces available on the team.
- 14:58Whether or not they choose to fill them is another matter.
- 15:02But yeah, top 2 are automatic. So I think that's why maybe
- 15:08Jake's still a little bit hopeful with his fourth place,
- 15:11but I think he was also alluding to on the episode last week,
- 15:15like Emil basically can call Trump's if he wants.
- 15:20It's weird. Alfie Maltorp, Totally.
- 15:23He's not hopeful. Well, from the interviews I
- 15:25seen, he just thinks he's not going anywhere.
- 15:27And he was third, so I think it's just two.
- 15:33Yeah, maybe British athletics have already suggested they
- 15:36won't be. Yeah, like really British
- 15:39athletics will just may bring to never mind for their tight as.
- 15:45A question for you though, put you on the spot a little bit.
- 15:48There's there is some some data if you want to look at it is Joe
- 15:53Wigfield based on this the current the best 10,000 meter to
- 16:00half marathon male in British running like taking down Phil
- 16:06Sussman. He's behind the male, the
- 16:09premier marathoner right now and the way.
- 16:13Like. Only the way Jake speaks about
- 16:17him in that you can hear how not scared, but he's almost like at
- 16:21that physically don't know how I'm going to beat him.
- 16:24How when I come up against him, it's I'm drawing comparison to
- 16:28like the Cole Hawker effect in the USA in that people are
- 16:34trying to get considerably fitter than him because they
- 16:38know that they can't beat him at the end of the race.
- 16:40And how much fitter than him do they have to be to be able to
- 16:43drop him? And it seems like that's a
- 16:45similar predicament here. They need to just be so much
- 16:49fitter than Joe to get rid of them.
- 16:50But he's clearly very bloody fit himself.
- 16:54It's a duty and Key beats the McHale boys of Scott B and Roy
- 16:59Leonard. Over 10,000.
- 17:03I don't think so what's hey, you know what this is those blokes
- 17:09didn't coach him before he's drunk.
- 17:13He's drunk the kool-aid, I think here.
- 17:17Yeah, the number 1 ticket holder and we appreciate that like you
- 17:21got to back your boy in, but Nah, surely not.
- 17:25You'll see now the 10, the 10 races on really soon over
- 17:29America and I think B yeah, sometimes I don't know what it
- 17:34is, but some of the American race, the only one where they
- 17:36run the auto standards to, you know, yeah, make a World Team.
- 17:45Yeah, Like, I don't know, maybe over 1/2, like, well, I mean,
- 17:51we'll talk about this later, but maybe I'm being unfair thinking
- 17:56these guys that have superior 5K times and pedigree are clearly
- 18:01better. Like we saw Grant Fisher debut
- 18:05at New York, which was very well streamed, which was it was it
- 18:09was running. It was pretty much running at
- 18:11the same time as the Bath half. And he looked incredible.
- 18:16Like a lot of those guys coming from the track to the road, they
- 18:19look so good, but it is different running on the road.
- 18:22And so maybe, maybe we're being disrespectful to Joe, maybe.
- 18:29Right now, I mean, it's by no means and a certainty I was
- 18:32going to offer one person who I did think was definitely in
- 18:38better form right now maybe. And he's perhaps forgotten about
- 18:41because of his American base. And we've seen him run in New
- 18:45York this weekend as well. Patrick Diva.
- 18:47So I was looking at the fastest times that the British lads have
- 18:53run since I used the start of 2020.
- 18:55Folks feel like since before that if you haven't run a time
- 19:00then maybe you're not in the conversation for now.
- 19:03And he's got the fastest 10,000 meters on the track of the
- 19:07British lads 27 O 8, which is like on par with the Aussie
- 19:11record of rain is considerably faster than a male, which that
- 19:17race I remember wasn't exactly a fast race of a male, but anyway.
- 19:21And then Divas just ran sub 60 in New York.
- 19:26But didn't wait. Wakefield bet the two boys in
- 19:30Valencia. Yeah, which?
- 19:342. The two have my Cowboys, yeah.
- 19:39Oh. Wait So what distance are we
- 19:42saying this? Over 10K. 10K to half marathon,
- 19:46Yeah. Off I think actually I want to
- 19:49take about, I think Joe, we could beat them both.
- 19:52Did Scott run the 10K in Valencia?
- 19:56He did, but he ran it. He was coming off illness.
- 19:58He didn't go with the right group.
- 19:59I think Scott could because Scott's got 13.
- 20:02Oh, something really low and 5K. So he could hurt Joe.
- 20:08But then it should be a matter of hanging on.
- 20:10I don't know. It'd be actually a really,
- 20:12really good race. It's cool though, there's a lot
- 20:16of people in the conversation now.
- 20:18It seems like kind of comes in waves, doesn't it?
- 20:23But then still unfortunately, when you compare to like the the
- 20:27global scale, there's still another step to be had.
- 20:32Like that team for like com games and the European is
- 20:35Europeans on this year, yeah. Yeah.
- 20:38Like that team is going to be so hard to make if you're fucking
- 20:41British unless the boys move up a distance like Joe would he go?
- 20:48Is there a half marathon in the Europeans?
- 20:51I don't know. I don't think so.
- 20:54So yeah, that 10K on the track surprised Joe's not running this
- 20:58race in America in a couple of weeks.
- 21:01True to get a time. But even though he positive Rd.
- 21:05time influencia so that might count towards something.
- 21:10There was also a women's race which we should remember and
- 21:13Alex Bell, the former track *800m runner she won in 6915
- 21:20beating Jess Warner Judd 2 minutes back in 7121 and Lauren
- 21:24McNeil 3rd 7150. Interesting one with Alex Bell
- 21:31because I know we have spoken about her before because she ran
- 21:35same race and ran Valencia 10K in January and incredibly fast
- 21:39there 3057. And I remember we kind of said
- 21:43like, but they are that's a standout performance and kind of
- 21:47keep an eye on her if she's going to continue with this road
- 21:51running journey. And then there she has taken out
- 21:54Jess Warner. Jordan's one of the best British
- 21:56distance runners herself right now and Alex Bell has just
- 21:59beaten her by two minutes. But like you look then across
- 22:04the pond, Megan Keith runs 67 and I like heavy, even though
- 22:10how heavy is it? And New York, like again,
- 22:13there's just another level above.
- 22:15Like that's a phenomenal run from Alex Bell, but they're
- 22:17still another level above that. How do you know?
- 22:22It's quite windy though as well, wasn't it?
- 22:25Oh yeah, Jake said it was windy. Maybe just.
- 22:29A female race run with the males.
- 22:32Yeah. Do we know that much?
- 22:38I assume they would have been. Their females would have went
- 22:41off with the males as well. Probably, yeah.
- 22:45So like, I'm just thinking she's one by two minutes.
- 22:48I assume she wasn't like completely by herself for the
- 22:51whole race. She would have been with a group
- 22:52of fellows, wouldn't she? You assume so, but again, hard
- 22:56to comment on when you don't. The next set of results take us
- 23:01over to New York. I think you guys can cover this
- 23:04one. She seems to be watching it
- 23:06whilst I was deep in mouth. Can we go back one?
- 23:09And so the women's is that I'm Alex Bell and just wonder George
- 23:12going to the world rotating champs or does Megan Keith get a
- 23:18shoe in there now? Like what do you do?
- 23:20Because that was the qualifier. Now see so them there must be
- 23:23more than two spaces the most before otherwise.
- 23:30So British athletics wouldn't release just the two spots on it
- 23:34in a race, would they? Doesn't.
- 23:38Say. British Athletics, Why?
- 23:40Like I'm all for everyone rocking up to a race and then if
- 23:44you run your way onto it and then building up the race and
- 23:49showing it to people would be good.
- 23:50But but that's normally how they do it.
- 23:54They normally leave room for discretion, right?
- 23:57Yeah, because you've got. The way together, yeah.
- 23:59You've got the two Scots, Eilish and Megan Keith, to like, come
- 24:02into that. Yeah.
- 24:05So they wouldn't be leaving them out.
- 24:07And normally like, you know, those world half marathon
- 24:11champs, like the the fields are normally bigger because, you
- 24:15know, in the past I've had teams medals, hard to have a teams
- 24:19medal. I think in more recent times it
- 24:21was like the average time if your first three or something to
- 24:25that effect chopped and changed, but you would think you would
- 24:29have at least four people being allowed to go.
- 24:33With it being only in Copenhagen as well and not somewhere like
- 24:36China or bloody India, I'm sure they can stump up the funds to
- 24:40put four people on a Ryanair flight.
- 24:42Boys, I could be there. I've got an entry to the half.
- 24:48Really. Yeah.
- 24:50So I entered it like I entered A ballot when I was in Australia
- 24:53and yeah, I got in. So I didn't think you would have
- 24:59planned that far ahead, spur the moment sort of thing.
- 25:03So I don't know if it's going to line up because I don't plan on
- 25:07running 1/2 this year, but yeah, it's a possibility.
- 25:13So will you get you'll get to they've released, like I said, a
- 25:15number of places to race in like the the pro field basically.
- 25:21So Dave, the pro field and then I'll be like people behind
- 25:24because I remember I think it was last time it was in
- 25:27somewhere in Belgium and Scott beat, he didn't get in the pro
- 25:30field. So we had to start with the the
- 25:33normal people and then he like raced and caught the pro field.
- 25:37So there's a little gap there and between the pro field and
- 25:42the just your average runners. So you're getting a you're
- 25:47getting quite the skill set for there's a lot of marigami.
- 25:51This is like Valencia exactly like I think this will be a
- 25:55higher standard. Well, they'll be faster boys in
- 25:59the half, but yeah, could be on the cards.
- 26:03Very cool. You have to make that work.
- 26:07Be good opportunity. If we could, I think with the
- 26:11way I've sort of planned my season, I'll finish up at the
- 26:14first week in August. So if I don't have a little bit
- 26:19of downtime, I'll have like a five to six week builds before
- 26:22Copenhagen and then you hit cross country.
- 26:25So it might work out that like it's sort of a base block, do
- 26:28the half and then sort of drop down the distance for cross.
- 26:31So it might work, but we'll see. Has he gone so professional
- 26:36since he's left us then? I mean he trained 3 times
- 26:42Christmas Day when he was with us so I mean already taking it
- 26:45pretty serious has been on. Ways levelled up from when I was
- 26:54dragging him out for a Curry on New Year's Eve.
- 26:58Wasn't prioritizing sleep or nutrition then.
- 27:02One of the rare occasions. Oh yeah, go and tell us about
- 27:07New York. Think you guys watched it?
- 27:11Yeah, I can kick things off. So they had a very good live
- 27:15stream going. And again, it was just easy,
- 27:19easy to find just on YouTube. Very stacked races both on the
- 27:25men's and women's side. Maybe I start with the women's
- 27:28and then we can move into the men's.
- 27:30I know we, we so often start with the men's, but yeah, the
- 27:34women's race, the women's race was a date field, but I think
- 27:40the the two main protagonists were Agnes and Gedditch.
- 27:47She I think is the current world record holder over 10K on the
- 27:51road. She's run like 2847 thereabouts.
- 27:55So something can sign me fast. And she is who I think we
- 28:00covered earlier in the year when she just absolutely ran over the
- 28:04top of everyone at World Cross was that I think.
- 28:09And so she I think she's in, she's incredibly decorated
- 28:15athlete in her own right. And Helen O'berry, I mean, has
- 28:18won pretty much everything from the track all the way through to
- 28:22major marathons. And but in more recent times,
- 28:28there's been a marathon a right has sort of had a stranglehold
- 28:32on the Boston and New York marathons with her training
- 28:37training. Oh, was she been a training
- 28:39partner or, or just fellow country woman?
- 28:42I think just from Kenya, who who spends time in the US that
- 28:45Sharon Lakati, I think they run together.
- 28:49They do run together a bit, right?
- 28:51And you remember they've had a few Sprint finishes in some of
- 28:54the major marathons in the past. I think Lakati beat her in Was
- 28:59it Boston one year normally and. They run together everybody year
- 29:04in New York. For 43.
- 29:06Days. So she's she's incredibly strong
- 29:09as well, but she didn't get so much.
- 29:11There was a point in the race where and get it made a made a
- 29:16move a little bit like what she did in world cross country and
- 29:18just didn't but never was no one really was able to hang with
- 29:22her. Oberi Oberi goes to the arms
- 29:26just by default, right, like have you that high arm carry?
- 29:29Like she's almost poking herself in the eye when she swings
- 29:32around a bit like the like our fly car man with a lot of lot of
- 29:37swing. But she I don't know if you saw
- 29:40this part of the stream on, but like she's basically swinging
- 29:44these arms, doing her best to just get back onto the back of
- 29:48and get itch was really interesting because it's quite
- 29:51early in the races around halfway.
- 29:54And she held on and credit to her, but it ended up being in
- 29:59get it that had spent all of her bikkies and she was just running
- 30:03on the spot come later in the race.
- 30:05So even with maybe a mile or two to go, I think she was sitting
- 30:08second or third and she faded to 13th.
- 30:11And O'berry just yeah, didn't, didn't look troubled from that
- 30:15time on. They sort of set up a big gap.
- 30:17O'berry managed to hold on. I think she faded a little bit
- 30:20because I'm pretty sure what they went through 10K in was not
- 30:23the same pace that they held to the finish.
- 30:25Like they must have been on around 65 minute K pace.
- 30:27And O'berry finished in 63 1/2. And there's a bit of elevation
- 30:32in that race. Not loads, but a bit.
- 30:36Yeah. OK, Elevation, Elevation wise,
- 30:42there's 66 meters of elevation in this race.
- 30:45Wow, Is that it in Valencia Marathon?
- 30:48They're 66. Like it's not fucking hilly.
- 30:51Like they were hyping it up that going through at the first like
- 30:555K, it was apparently it was super, super early.
- 30:57It's you guys, It's not that early.
- 31:00Like it's not pancake flat, but it's not hilly.
- 31:03So the Perth Marathon, which is like running along our freeway
- 31:08up and down, Yeah, up and down our freeway and footpaths, I
- 31:11think that's 180. So 90 meters per half, yeah.
- 31:15And like we would call that about as good as it gets, so but
- 31:19I feel. Does it mean though?
- 31:20You know because this one's point to point do that.
- 31:23Does it mean that you actually go up 66 meters from start to
- 31:27finish rather than total? Or no, because it's it's it's
- 31:32record ineligible because I think it's point to point and
- 31:34net downhill. So I think it's actually
- 31:37elevation loss. That's the elevation gain.
- 31:39I always measure the gain. Total elevation gain is 66
- 31:43meters. Yeah.
- 31:45Fuck all, really. And they're just little hills,
- 31:48like they're not hard. Well, by the looks things, it
- 31:50doesn't look like they're like really like sharp pinches.
- 31:53It's just freaking bridges. So they're talking about.
- 31:55It was in the women's first 5K, the women's race, wasn't it,
- 31:58that they were going on about the elevation?
- 32:02Yeah, yeah, because then the men's rolled through.
- 32:04The men's I remember went through in like 1357 and I
- 32:08remember thinking if it was a hilly star, like they're not
- 32:12rolling through, there wouldn't be 15 blokes rolling through in
- 32:15under 14 minutes. You.
- 32:18See Kelly gone. I was going to say you see Kelly
- 32:23Thackery in the results there. She's 17 weeks pregnant and if
- 32:28she and if she's pregnant and when I seen she ran there so I
- 32:30was like right straight to her Instagram.
- 32:33How bloody pregnant is she? 17 weeks I think running 73
- 32:38minutes. I think she played 17th as well.
- 32:43Oh yeah, I hope that's where I haven't got my 17 from, but
- 32:50yeah, impressive. You can, you can relate in that
- 32:56it would be easy. I mean, I don't know what it
- 32:58feels like to be pregnant, but it would be easy to step away
- 33:01completely from competitive racing in that you know you're
- 33:05going to be slower And like it's it'd be easier on the ego not to
- 33:09like just run slower times, wouldn't it?
- 33:11But to still, I guess have that fire and desire to race and
- 33:18accept the fact you're going to be slower in these.
- 33:20Fields now kind of how you say she was getting money for a fear
- 33:24and on that start line, let's be real.
- 33:28You reckon she's on the parents fee?
- 33:30Yeah, surely. But to be.
- 33:35The the girl who's finished fourth, I think she's like
- 33:39European record holder over the 5K as well.
- 33:41She's like Dutch, she's run 1430 odd and then there's a few big
- 33:46Americans in there as well. Wasn't the Emily?
- 33:49System she ran like 218 or something.
- 33:52Yeah, she she the marathon record holder, maybe.
- 33:55I think so. Apologies to the American
- 33:58listeners who are. Quite confident.
- 34:01I'm fairly confident. Susanna Sullivan and Emily
- 34:05Venters as well. So yeah, deep, deep woman's
- 34:09field and Megan Keith runs. Was it like the fourth fastest
- 34:15Brit ever on debut? Sixth fastest Brit ever on
- 34:18debut? Faster than Izzy's record is 67
- 34:24in the teens. I think it I think that's just
- 34:28faster than Izzy's Aussie record and she's done it on debut,
- 34:31which is remarkable IMO. Yeah, that's great.
- 34:36I mean, that's great running. It looks really good too.
- 34:39I mean, they're unfortunately the coverage spent so much time
- 34:42at the front too. But I was looking up there, so I
- 34:47found a website that says total elevation being 74 meters and
- 34:51total loss was 79 meters. So yeah, it's a net downhill,
- 34:56just to clear that up. So point to point.
- 34:58I probably had a tailwind as well.
- 35:00Yeah, Medio would be adding be taking time off, telling him
- 35:05it's too easy, boy, Because if you see her across and I don't
- 35:11know, just I don't know about you, but can't, don't you always
- 35:14just want to root for Helen O'berry?
- 35:15Like, did you? I don't know.
- 35:17Did you watch her finish on? She looked absolutely wrecked.
- 35:22Like, you know, when you talk about people crossing the finish
- 35:24line and, like, looking like they, you know, wouldn't blow
- 35:28out a candle and you start to raise.
- 35:30She looked cooked. She was running to find a towel
- 35:32to get all the spit off her face because she was bent.
- 35:36Surely, Like, if she, it's not to say, like, if you clean up
- 35:40your, like, sort of form, you go faster, but surely she's wasting
- 35:44so much energy swimming on those arms.
- 35:45Well, they just said the same about Paula Radcliffe.
- 35:49Yeah, head bouncing everywhere and she was the GOAT at that
- 35:55time. I just also checked, Megan
- 35:59Keith's time is faster than Izzy's national record which is
- 36:02insane and she ran the European 10K record only a few weeks back
- 36:07and didn't she Megan Keith So she's absolutely on fire.
- 36:12And then on to the men's race. So yeah, this is a really good
- 36:17race to watch as well that was splitting between both these
- 36:19races and the wheelies when they in the coverage, it was really
- 36:22good spread. But the men's race was in a, it
- 36:27was a group of I think 14 for most of it, perhaps thereabouts.
- 36:36And gosh, different guys were prominent at different times.
- 36:42Like you'd have. Yeah.
- 36:45Like Joe Klecker was prominent early.
- 36:47Grant Fisher spent a little bit of time with his face at the
- 36:50front. So Patrick Kiprock, you see,
- 36:55the, the taller, the taller athlete, he was fairly prominent
- 37:00pretty early. I think they went through 5K and
- 37:04I think the leader in 1357, and then they went through 10K
- 37:10pretty well. Smack on 28 minutes, which I
- 37:13think puts him in a time of what's that double that 56 + 3
- 37:18like 59 flat pace was sort of what they were rolling at.
- 37:25But yeah, who was, was he your countryman, Owen, Peter Lynch,
- 37:31that started he, I mean, he was maybe one of the first guys to
- 37:35sort of really try and break over the pack.
- 37:37Yeah. And like, as an Irishman, you're
- 37:40looking at him, you're like, what the hell are you doing?
- 37:43He's feeling good. Like he held his own.
- 37:45I think he's the first Irishman ever to run sub 60 now, even
- 37:49though it's not eligible for the record.
- 37:51But like that he trains in a group like a PM elite with that
- 37:55Patrick Deaver. So it's Peter Lynch, Patrick
- 37:58Deaver, that Alex Meyer. And there's a few of the men,
- 38:02and they're all coached by Alistair Craig, who, again, is
- 38:05Irish. And you don't hear much at all
- 38:07from that group. Jack Rowe, Yeah, you don't hear
- 38:10much at all from that group. But Jeannie Mac, they're able to
- 38:13run fast. And the fact that they're all so
- 38:16close to each other, imagine them as, imagine them rolling
- 38:19out workouts together, taking lumps out of each other.
- 38:23But even like, the women side of that team is unbelievable as
- 38:25well. Yeah.
- 38:28It's probably the best pro team in the world.
- 38:34It's Linklater, he's Puma as well, but he's in base with
- 38:37them. He's with this sort of guy
- 38:39called John Green and from like Verde Track Club, he coaches
- 38:43Philly Baden. But yeah, I'm like, yeah,
- 38:47they're all switching it. Your man's are Talby.
- 38:49He's going to be American, is he?
- 38:52Yeah. He he so he'll be able to run in
- 38:56the next Olympics for America. He put on AUS flag, didn't he?
- 39:00Post race? I, I didn't actually see that.
- 39:05All I seen was the third guy and then I turned it off.
- 39:10The Puma crew like in terms of the most dominant, because
- 39:15normally when you're watching these races, there'll be a main
- 39:18sponsor and you'll just see a smattering of whatever the main
- 39:21sponsor is. If it's ad athletes like Adidas,
- 39:24Essex, Nike, whereas this one is probably what the most prolific
- 39:29group was all kit was the Puma kit, huh?
- 39:33Yeah, it's not purpley. It's you can see it everywhere.
- 39:37Yeah, it's pretty cool. Like feel like they've come from
- 39:40the clouds a little bit. And Joe Clicker, don't you
- 39:43reckon it looks a little bit like a like a robot?
- 39:47Like that wide chest, robotic mechanics, buzz cut and MO.
- 39:52One all over. I.
- 39:55Think it's cool? Big run from him as well.
- 40:00Yeah, you'd be sick as well though, like that.
- 40:04Two seconds. Yeah.
- 40:07I see him and Patrick Kipper up. They trained together.
- 40:09They'd be training together and your man Ryan Ford, them three
- 40:12guys. Ryan Ford was 12.
- 40:14It's loads of team groups here. Yeah.
- 40:18So we should say we should mention.
- 40:19So Grant Fisher, who were probably very.
- 40:23So he was like the draw card and who got us probably most styled
- 40:26in to watch the stream to be honest.
- 40:28He was the he was last out of that group.
- 40:31I think I'm pretty sure it's a group of 14 and he finished 14th
- 40:36in 6053 and the results pretty much between there and the
- 40:40winner Adrian is it will shoot. Is he the South?
- 40:45African guy who's like outspoken on X is he always firing shots
- 40:50on Twitter? He.
- 40:52Could be. I mean, he's been around for a
- 40:54while. He's a good track runner.
- 40:55He was NCAA athlete, wasn't he? Remember, he runs.
- 40:59He runs with a Hawker group, Naz elite.
- 41:03But yeah, I mean, he looked great.
- 41:04He sort of waited until he fired.
- 41:06He fired a shot pretty late, didn't he?
- 41:07And when he went, he just blew them all apart.
- 41:13But yeah, I mean, he he was first and then, yeah.
- 41:15Toby second, Gulvia Singh, your man.
- 41:20Owen was third. Alex Mayer, fourth, Peter Lynch,
- 41:24the Irishman. And then, yeah, Paddy Diva, Rory
- 41:26Linklater. Roy.
- 41:29Did Rory Linkletter recently run a marathon?
- 41:31Is he? He's always bloody racing, isn't
- 41:36he? Yeah, I feel like he's brought
- 41:37something recently. He's obviously in very good
- 41:39shape to run 60 dead and literally he's one second ahead
- 41:42of keep Rob, 2 seconds ahead of Clecker.
- 41:43So and then Japanese, is it Kuwata, Jack Rowe, Ryan Ford and
- 41:52Ben Yo and then Fisher like a just a really stacked field,
- 41:55really good race to watch. I really enjoyed it.
- 41:59Got some some stats on some of them.
- 42:01So Diva with his 5956 was it has gone second fastest Brit ever,
- 42:08second Brit under 60 minutes behind only MO and Jack Rowe
- 42:14with his run goes in at #5 British all time as well.
- 42:18So huge moves the rankings for those two.
- 42:22Albeit they won't. They won't fall form part of it
- 42:24right? And there'll be other people
- 42:25that would have done record ineligible runs.
- 42:28But directionally you get the gist of it.
- 42:30Fast running. I hate doing this but your mana
- 42:36came third now. Like I think India are behind
- 42:39Kenya and the people have been popped.
- 42:40Isn't it in that list? And he ran A5 KA month ago.
- 42:46He ran 1315 on the 14th of February.
- 42:53Like with that I'm terrible. That conversion thing, would
- 42:56that equate to 5942 half? Gosh, probably be close.
- 43:06The problem is you're going to have to key the half off of
- 43:09Kipling most. I don't know if that's still in
- 43:12there. No, it's not ratified.
- 43:15I'll put it in the calculator. I know what.
- 43:17You mean I reckon, I reckon it's similar just on the basis that
- 43:21people run what, 1240s for 5K, so 1350 and it's not like right
- 43:27right up there and neither is 5942 like believe people running
- 43:3258. So aren't they?
- 43:33Breaking the hour is is massive, yeah well, yeah, two Aussies
- 43:39ever have yeah, was said. No, no Irishman on a legal
- 43:43course 1 Great Britain ever, so 3 whereas so that's three right
- 43:48across 3 Britains, Ireland and Australia 3 in history, whereas
- 43:54you probably got what, 50 people that have between the three
- 43:59countries that have gone under 1315?
- 44:03Yeah. Yeah.
- 44:04And so no one's gone as quick as 5942 out of any of them.
- 44:10I mean, maybe that's well under. Yeah.
- 44:13So you exactly so that performance by that reasoning
- 44:19could be closer to like a 12:45 which you think is.
- 44:23Yeah, A. Total different athlete, Yeah.
- 44:26I mean, Grand Fisher is, yeah, getting dusted by a minute.
- 44:32He has been around, he gets some good races, like you see his
- 44:36name, but like obviously it's not it's not all that common for
- 44:41you don't see like Indian athletes up the top of these
- 44:44results. That's why it's a bit of a stand
- 44:46out because he's probably like flying the flag for his nation
- 44:50and that being at the forefront of athletics.
- 44:52So I think he's on the straight and narrow, to be honest with
- 44:57you. His his agent is an American
- 45:02guy. He has Scott.
- 45:02Simmons should Americans are as bad as the canyons are just
- 45:06better doing it. I think it's everywhere.
- 45:09It is everywhere. It's just Kenya or just getting
- 45:11caught. Loads like so many American
- 45:13sprinters have got caught. I actually went on and put
- 45:18Icarus on on the weekend and I wish you never because it
- 45:22reminds you of how like prominent it is and how if you
- 45:26want to do it, it's basically easy to do it as long as if
- 45:29they're working with doctors and scientists and stuff.
- 45:32So it's a tie open. If you win bridges, Ron, we know
- 45:38why now. Yeah, we'll have to stop them
- 45:43bloody Nomio shipments. Stop.
- 45:46The fly cab. Oh yeah, Fisher as well.
- 45:50Did you? Was it just me or Z look like
- 45:52he's filled out a bit, perhaps deliberate in that he's running
- 45:56longer distance but. I thought it was because he's
- 46:00wearing all black, like black shorts, black socks, black
- 46:04runners, and I think he was wearing the what he'd been
- 46:06wearing the new fly fours, which is why they are black.
- 46:12But I think that's why he looked a bit like Stout.
- 46:16Maybe he just went too hard on the car blood.
- 46:19Because there was a video, there was a video, I think some
- 46:22YouTube channel done a video on a workout on him and he was
- 46:25looking lean as one of them track all access ones.
- 46:29I like the black on black there. That was cool.
- 46:35Big colors splice things up. Bit disappointing from him
- 46:39though isn't it really? I mean finishing 14th on the
- 46:42time I was maybe thinking he would break 60 minutes.
- 46:45Perhaps too optimistic I. Think he said he was a little
- 46:47bit disappointed as well. He tried not.
- 46:49He tried to be diplomatic, but. He is very level headed when he
- 46:54speaks, like his knee would be hard to rattle him, but he.
- 46:59If you think back, he compromised well, he sacrificed
- 47:02rather well cross country and then also obviously well
- 47:05indoors. He's not doing that either
- 47:07because he was kind of making this bid to try out the roads
- 47:13and obviously that would make it all the more shit that it didn't
- 47:17go so well for him. Your man who came 13 to Daniel
- 47:21Abeno, he put up like an Instagram post, like apologizing
- 47:25for his performance and all. No way.
- 47:28Yeah, but if you're Grand Fisher, do you stick to the
- 47:33roads or do you go back to the track?
- 47:36I think he's going back, yeah. Because like as like a 6053 that
- 47:41is still like a so such a fuzz debut.
- 47:45But what he's he's run, it's like 26 there.
- 47:48Yeah, there's 10K, isn't it? Yeah, yeah.
- 47:52So he is. Yeah, he's different league
- 47:55there. Just a year point earlier, so
- 48:00about is Joe Weakfield the best? Shit.
- 48:04He's coming back. No, I'd like, you know, I think
- 48:10it's a it's a interesting thing to to mention like the Sunday
- 48:16podcast, you know how they put out their lights like results
- 48:19around the the globe for the weekend.
- 48:22And it's when, when you put them alongside, like when you put
- 48:24Paddy Diva 5956, Jack Rowe 6017 and then the guys from the the
- 48:32half, you know, in the low 62 minutes, right, the two minutes.
- 48:37I know it's a different course on a different day, but.
- 48:42Yeah, Even so in Barcelona with Joe run 61 low, so that's on on
- 48:49the fast course as well, so. Like you met, Yeah, each, each
- 48:53minutes, a little bit of a, you know, 3 seconds, OK, It's a bit
- 48:57of a jump, isn't? It next set of results goes to
- 49:04Barcelona Marathon. This is confusing as well
- 49:07because the main sponsors is Urich, so it reads the Zurich
- 49:11Barcelona Marathon. For those who don't know, Jorah
- 49:14is also a city in Switzerland. Anyway, it was in Barcelona and
- 49:21it was born by an Ethiopian woman, Fatian Safai Halo in
- 49:27absolutely mind boggling come from the clouds.
- 49:32But she hasn't. In fairness, she she does have
- 49:34the results to back it. But this results and this
- 49:37performance in that, don't think anyone in the running world was
- 49:40expecting it. There's no kind of preview,
- 49:42there's no hype, there's no expectation.
- 49:45And two hours 1053, which goes in at the second fastest ever
- 49:52behind, obviously Riff Chapman. Guess which everyone who isn't
- 49:57World Athletics has deleted that result from their mind.
- 50:00So I mean, let's consider it the fastest ever.
- 50:05Yeah. Any thoughts?
- 50:09I don't know who this girl is but like 210 is very so she won
- 50:12up by 8 minutes which is pretty good.
- 50:17The lads races one and two 0457 so like it is a fast course but
- 50:24yeah, 21053 is it's up there isn't it?
- 50:30Yeah, so I wasn't so familiar with her, but to be fair to her,
- 50:35when you look at her career today, right, she's run 1441 for
- 50:405K. Now, Dean, you need to switch on
- 50:42because you're good at these conversions.
- 50:44And what means what, 1441 for five K, 2942 for 10K in Valencia
- 50:52last year and a half marathon PB is 6321.
- 50:56So that's the main conversion that we're working with, the 63
- 51:00half. She finished 7th in the Paris
- 51:0410,000 meters in 2024 and 8th in the Tokyo 10,000 meters more
- 51:09recently. So and all she also has a fifth
- 51:13and 11th at the World Cross Country Championships to her
- 51:16name. So 1/2 PB that's 63, although
- 51:22IMO it doesn't convert to a 210 or it's an extremely good
- 51:26conversion for a 210. It is the third fastest half
- 51:30marathon ever run by a female. This is not like she's a no
- 51:34mark, but her results at the major championships as in
- 51:41finishing 7th, 8th, 5th and 11th.
- 51:44She's not right up there amongst the best of the best on the
- 51:48global scale, yet she's able to debut as well.
- 51:51To be fair, we didn't say this is her marathon debut.
- 51:56What do you think on these numbers?
- 52:01Yeah. So I'd say like, well, just in
- 52:05terms of the talk on reflections on the time.
- 52:07So I would say 1440 and 2940, but 1440 is not that
- 52:16particularly quick, I wouldn't say.
- 52:19And then 2940 probably equates pretty close to like 63 1/2.
- 52:26No, it doesn't. Like she she ran 1432 in a
- 52:30London Diamond League last July, but that helps.
- 52:39But like 5, Yeah. So 5 or 6 seconds to go from
- 52:445:00 to 8K to 10K makes about sense because like a double plus
- 52:52a minute. So 1430 * 2 is 29 + a minute is
- 52:5730 minutes. You're a little bit under that
- 53:01so that you know, you can understand that.
- 53:04But then to get your 10K time of 2940, which is 258 per K, and
- 53:10then run three O 1 per K for your half marathon, which is
- 53:146320. I mean, it's no, it's 3 minutes
- 53:16flat. It's 6326 is 3 minutes flat,
- 53:19right? So she's running pretty much a
- 53:2210K pace for 1/2 marathon. And then you know, we often talk
- 53:27about double +7. That's just a bit of a guide.
- 53:30And it's not like, and it's just Stinson mentioned, it's a bit
- 53:33more of a men's equation because they tend to have a bit of a
- 53:35higher ceiling like Jess's. Jess's equation is like double
- 53:39plus three. She's been an outlier, but she's
- 53:41like an aerobic machine. But we can understand that
- 53:46narrative, this one where you're doing double plus 4, but even
- 53:49what you're doubling seems hard to make sense of.
- 53:55Whereas you look at Jess and she's openly saying she needs to
- 53:58like go and work on 1/2 marathon PB.
- 54:01Yeah, probably hasn't gone to somewhere like Marigami or
- 54:04somewhere where you can, you know, you go to Valencia for the
- 54:07marathon, but you haven't gone to the equivalent of that for
- 54:09the Hut, for the roads for the half and paid for a lucky in a
- 54:12marathon block. So it is probably more pushing
- 54:15towards a bit more of a gap. But this one's already got the
- 54:19third fastest half ever. Yeah, yeah.
- 54:24But I don't know. So anyway, that's the comments
- 54:27on the times. So this is the world record
- 54:30time. No, Chapman gets it.
- 54:33She still stands. Yeah, but yeah, but this apart
- 54:36from her, this is the fastest ever.
- 54:38Yeah. I did the same country.
- 54:41She's Ethiopian, this one. OK.
- 54:44So they haven't started testing Ethiopia?
- 54:47I thought, I thought I just had this.
- 54:50If you're in 210 marathon shape as a female in March, how do you
- 54:56only finish 8th at the World Champs in September last year?
- 55:01Like to run 210 now is so much better than what anyone else is
- 55:06doing. How is the seven people better
- 55:08than you over 10,000 meters in Tokyo?
- 55:13It's a bit mad, like I'm looking at her 2025.
- 55:15So she opened up with that 2942 in Valencia.
- 55:19Then she went to Berlin Half and ran that 6335.
- 55:23Then she ran a road 5K in Germany 1450.
- 55:27Then she ran that Prefontaine Classic.
- 55:30She ran a 5K15 O 4. Then that's July, started July,
- 55:3619th of July, she runs the London Diamond League in 1432.
- 55:41Then in September she's the World Championships 3121.
- 55:45So like fair enough, it's a long year.
- 55:48And then September and then October she runs the Valencia
- 55:52half and she runs a 6510. So then between that Valencia?
- 55:5765 in Valencia in October. But that's a long year, to be
- 56:00fair. Like that's hard on anyone.
- 56:02She's going from January to October and then from October
- 56:09there's no results until like there yesterday.
- 56:14I mean, the first thing I've done was look at her agent and I
- 56:16was hoping don't, don't be Rosa. Just don't be Rosa.
- 56:21And it's not. It's a Spanish woman called
- 56:23Monica Ponce Schaeffer and it looks like she was she was a
- 56:27marathoner back in the day herself.
- 56:30But then shit, when you look at her directory, she's she
- 56:33represents 70 athletes and as a Spanish woman, 39 of them are
- 56:39Ethiopian and 18 of them are Kenyan.
- 56:42So she's got a big African representations and some big
- 56:46names in there as well. To be fair, none the well none
- 56:49to my knowledge that make you like concerned Nelly chapter
- 56:55chair Mukhtar address Yarmouth Kajalcha Thierry Indica more new
- 57:01and Emmanuel 1 yoni so some of the best athletes in the world
- 57:07to be fair to her. But yeah, hey Lou, this Fort yen
- 57:12safai. Hey Lou may well have just gone
- 57:15pound for pound the best of the bunch.
- 57:19We put a real house that's free last week.
- 57:21We put a real house on the Kip limo talk and I don't know if
- 57:25we're missing something because in the stuff that I kind of
- 57:30consumed since when we recorded to now, obviously everyone's
- 57:33spoken about Kipling most time and stuff, but no one's really
- 57:37seems to be too concerned over the fact that his agent is Rosa.
- 57:41I don't know why everyone else is like glossing over it or not
- 57:45really considering it as a contentious subject.
- 57:52I mean, the time is the time for now but.
- 57:56Like the boys on the lesser on podcasts were like loving it.
- 58:01They like they don't. I don't think they've heard of
- 58:04Doctor Rosa. But yeah, it's just what so many
- 58:09are athletes have been popped. There's only you have to take
- 58:11these things with a pinch of salt as well.
- 58:13Like, again, he's been living an altitude for years.
- 58:17Phenomenal runner. He's been so good on the track.
- 58:19But that does not say he has avoided the AIU whatever the
- 58:24freak you called him for years or he's master that you'd like
- 58:27to think he's clean. And I really hope he's clean
- 58:30because he keep regardless, I think he'll go down as one of
- 58:33the best distance runners ever. But yeah, I don't know I.
- 58:41Mean let's leave it there. Fantastic debut from Halo.
- 58:45Yeah. Are we going over to Adelaide
- 58:48next or He's done a team? Vincent.
- 58:53Yeah, he's gone. He's just left the chat.
- 58:56Was this Adelaide Invitational big?
- 59:00It's just the next one in the in the series.
- 59:03So we have like a domestic season of races.
- 59:09So Perth, Hobart, then over to Adelaide.
- 59:12So all right, I'll just fly. Do you want to fly?
- 59:17Yeah, if you've got to, if you've, if you've got them to
- 59:19hand, yeah. Let's still start with the
- 59:21women's 1500. It was won by Miller Roberts.
- 59:25Jim actually 2000, born in 2007. She's from Queensland.
- 59:32She ran a 14/12/82 for APB. Second was Clara Des from
- 59:37Victoria, she ran 4/13/23 and then third was Zoe Melhush from
- 59:47the capital Canberra and she ran 14/14/87.
- 59:53The next one on the list was the men's 800 meters.
- 59:58This is 1 by Daniel Williams again 2007, he ran 14437, that
- 1:00:05is fast. And second was Luke Boyce from
- 1:00:09NSW. He ran 14438.
- 1:00:11That was close. And then Terry was James
- 1:00:14Preston. James Preston here on 145 O 7,
- 1:00:19that's from Malta in this race. Jared Maccailiffe around 147 the
- 1:00:27Yeah, I think, yeah, that Dan Williams just close over the top
- 1:00:30of boys just towards the end was a good dip.
- 1:00:34Is he the lad who wore the long shorts in one of them big races
- 1:00:40in Melbourne? A Christmas there are you
- 1:00:44thinking of? No, the long short cross in
- 1:00:48there? Oh, yeah, I've seen that as
- 1:00:50well. There was a male steeplechase
- 1:00:56with some big names. It was the winner, Buzz Yetaro
- 1:00:59Nene from Japan. He ran 833.
- 1:01:02Second was Ben Buckingham from Victoria.
- 1:01:05He ran 837. I was just.
- 1:01:11Thinking I don't know if we've ever covered the steeplechase
- 1:01:14result and then you said there's some big names and then read the
- 1:01:17fellow off of never and. Then third was Liam Cashin here
- 1:01:25on 843 as well. And yeah, that was your
- 1:01:32steeplechase we've got off the pace.
- 1:01:35You left Tim Men's 1500 winner, It was Tamonori Yamaguchi.
- 1:01:43These, these must be the boys from MTC, is it?
- 1:01:47They must be. Has Yeah, he ran 340.13.
- 1:01:52Jack and Sharp was second in 340.22 and then third was
- 1:01:57Alexander Stitch from Queensland.
- 1:01:59He ran 340.74. Shout out to Max Shervington he
- 1:02:04came sixth in 34215. Any other big one?
- 1:02:13Others Women's 5K Very last event that was won by Ruby
- 1:02:17Schmee from Tasmania she ran 1552.
- 1:02:23Second was Izzy Thornton boss when I seen this I thought that
- 1:02:26was easy about oil. I don't know why Izzy Thornton
- 1:02:29bought she ran 16 O 6 and then third was Libby Montay from
- 1:02:33Queensland to run 1627. 2009, by the way.
- 1:02:40Beth yeah, there was a Sinead, Sinead Noonan was and DNS in
- 1:02:45this one. Yeah, I think she was on the
- 1:02:49start list. Was it for Hobart or Perth as
- 1:02:52well? But she's had a bit of an
- 1:02:54injury. She's coming back.
- 1:02:57I actually missed the Whims 800 which was probably the biggest
- 1:03:00race of the night. I'd be Caldwell, she won it in
- 1:03:04A2 flat .04, second was Jayla Hancock, Cameron, she ran two O
- 1:03:09174 and third was Emma Friga from Queensland, she ran two O
- 1:03:15323 and that is Adelaide. Have you ever been to Adelaide
- 1:03:20boys? Did my first marathon in
- 1:03:24Adelaide. Nice What you're on 2/26?
- 1:03:31They mis sold them on prize money.
- 1:03:35Let's start in super shoes. I got a bone to pick with them.
- 1:03:39Yeah, I think I was in the every like the four percents, you know
- 1:03:42the. Yeah, this is 2019.
- 1:03:46Yeah, I actually was at the Adelaide Invitational 2024.
- 1:03:52I want to say you get to the Barossa, you go try a glass of
- 1:03:58wine or anything while you were there.
- 1:04:00No strict business trip just to see that running.
- 1:04:04It worked out well because I was working install.
- 1:04:06So me and Aden, we got the bikes on the back of the car and drove
- 1:04:11to Adelaide. 5 hours there and we cycled around Adelaide.
- 1:04:15It was actually really good and it just happened that the
- 1:04:17running mate was on at the same time.
- 1:04:21City of Churches Adelaide. But it's got a lot of parks,
- 1:04:25quite a very pleasant place to run.
- 1:04:27I ran along the there was a like a river.
- 1:04:31It's actually really, really nice.
- 1:04:33It's probably underrated like Perth, even though they've no
- 1:04:36actually it's not right like Perth, there's so many.
- 1:04:38There's a pro team there. I've been once for about 3
- 1:04:43hours. We flew when I was living in
- 1:04:45Melbourne. We flew there and picked up a
- 1:04:48campervan and then drove it back along Great Ocean Road.
- 1:04:51But yeah, literally just drove out of Adelaide pretty much.
- 1:04:55Although I will have to go back from a great white shark cage
- 1:04:58diving. Apparently that when you're
- 1:05:03driving into Adelaide, they sometimes they like check your
- 1:05:06car and if you've like fruit in your car, like they find you or
- 1:05:09something like that. I didn't get stopped now, but
- 1:05:12I've heard stories of people getting like fined for trying to
- 1:05:14bring bananas into like Adelaide.
- 1:05:16It is. Yeah.
- 1:05:19Weird. Speaking of driving things
- 1:05:21around the around the traps, the Harry.
- 1:05:24You remember Harry? Yeah, he drove his girlfriend's
- 1:05:29car from Brisbane to the Brisbane and Perth and we went
- 1:05:35for a run with him on Sunday. How long did it take him?
- 1:05:39Fair while enough for him to title it, unfortunately.
- 1:05:44He biked the Yeah. Yeah, Ouch.
- 1:05:50What's that? The Nullarbar?
- 1:05:51Is it the big long Rd. Nullarbor?
- 1:05:53Yeah, the Nullarbor. Yeah, Fucking hell.
- 1:05:57Malabar. How long travelling in style
- 1:06:01though? I think he said it took him like
- 1:06:033 weeks. He was.
- 1:06:04He's been down aspirants and everything on on his way.
- 1:06:08He took his golf clubs, so he played around at golf.
- 1:06:13He's pretty good at golf. He plays off scratch, does he?
- 1:06:15Usually yes. Went around scratch out the day
- 1:06:19of sandwich is not bad, is it? What's like the scratch
- 1:06:22equivalent to like a marathon time?
- 1:06:26Tricky 215 you'd. Have to apply death to it 215 by
- 1:06:30maths to it. Yeah, probably 218.
- 1:06:34Two eighteen. Yeah.
- 1:06:36Come on. 21740 So that's the results.
- 1:06:42Wrap training weeks powered by Gnomeo.
- 1:06:45Who wants to go first? Owen as Owen drinks a bottle of
- 1:06:49Gnomeo. Well, time.
- 1:06:52Not an actual shop but just a water bottle right?
- 1:06:57Sure. Will I go first?
- 1:06:58Come back from the down week. Wow, this was still.
- 1:07:03How was your body feeling as as bad as Jake's feels after a down
- 1:07:06week? No, I don't know.
- 1:07:09Yeah, I don't know how that chap.
- 1:07:11I thought you should feel better.
- 1:07:15And so again, all this week up until Saturday was just off my
- 1:07:21own doing. It was just easy jogging.
- 1:07:24So start. I think I did do something most
- 1:07:27days though, trying to get it up on Monday.
- 1:07:34I start off with Ohio yeah 40 minute run and I felt so shit.
- 1:07:40I've like yeah had right through the roof like the you know where
- 1:07:47the like 4 foot of my foot was sore.
- 1:07:49Now I think my Romeros are done as well, so that probably didn't
- 1:07:53help. But yeah, I just felt very like
- 1:07:57deconditioned. So that was 9 K at 420 fives.
- 1:08:01How many KS you reckon is under the marrows for them to be done?
- 1:08:05Ah, I think 680I track it on M Strava.
- 1:08:10So I think around 680 to 700. I don't know.
- 1:08:16That's good innings. Yeah.
- 1:08:19So, yeah. And then on the Tuesday, just
- 1:08:22got out for 30 minutes. Easy.
- 1:08:23Shake out the legs. Do you know, I wasn't meant to
- 1:08:26run. I was meant to take a break.
- 1:08:27But like, you have that itch to get out and run.
- 1:08:30I am. It's like you're like an addict,
- 1:08:32Like, you just need that. You need to do it.
- 1:08:35So yeah, we just got out for 30 minutes. 6K at 4:30.
- 1:08:39Fives Wednesday went back to circus class Thursday woke up
- 1:08:46very sore. I hadn't used my core and I
- 1:08:48don't know how long. So yeah that the next morning
- 1:08:51and on the Thursday I had a fallout with my heart rate
- 1:08:54monitor. So yeah, I changed this the
- 1:08:59battery. I think I was complaining about
- 1:09:01this a while ago when I changed the battery at my Garmin heart
- 1:09:03rate monitor. And guys, they just become a
- 1:09:06piece of shit. Like they just do not read your
- 1:09:08heart rate anymore. So yeah.
- 1:09:12And this was my fourth Garmin Harry monitor since 2021.
- 1:09:16So like when I was complaining to Garmin about this, I like
- 1:09:19brought up my like account history and you could see I had
- 1:09:22two returned one got another two.
- 1:09:24And I was like, this is not, this is not right.
- 1:09:28Like you shouldn't be going through a Harry monitor a year.
- 1:09:31And they're like, oh, they made me really work for a refund.
- 1:09:36They, they wanted me to send them every single bit of
- 1:09:40information, but so on how I wash it, loads of history of the
- 1:09:45high rate when it's not working and all this sort of shit.
- 1:09:47So yeah, Garmin lost a customer and I went to the local running
- 1:09:53shop in Navan and I got a course on and so far so good.
- 1:10:00It just feels weird, like having it on your arm.
- 1:10:03I don't know Ryan. Like we've sort of big biceps
- 1:10:05so. But not it's good so far.
- 1:10:12It's still hanging on. It's hanging on there for now,
- 1:10:15yeah. Then Friday just got a 30 minute
- 1:10:21easy again. And then Saturday the caption
- 1:10:24was let Fat Cam command side 45 minutes done with my brother,
- 1:10:2810.8 K at four 10s Yeah, feeling good.
- 1:10:33And then so Sunday I had like 50 minutes actually, I made a
- 1:10:37mistake here. It was 15 minutes with the last
- 1:10:3930 at like LT1. It was meant to be the last
- 1:10:4220LT1. And so, yeah, pillion, I think
- 1:10:47it's around 330 per kilometer at the moment and which, yeah, it's
- 1:10:52not too bad starting back up, but yeah, that was 13.5 K.
- 1:10:56What a heart rate is LT1 you know.
- 1:10:59And well, it was just between like 160 and 174, just in
- 1:11:04between that zone. So yeah, that was 54 K for the
- 1:11:13week. And hopefully we'll start
- 1:11:16building back up again, just slowly.
- 1:11:18I don't want to overload the legs too much because, you know,
- 1:11:22last time when I had a break, I went back in, I probably jumped
- 1:11:24in too quick and just you pick up these little niggles.
- 1:11:27So I'll slowly increase and yeah, hopefully have a big nice
- 1:11:32block up until May and then I'll start racing.
- 1:11:35Nice spring block. That'd be nice, wouldn't it?
- 1:11:38Yeah, and like the mornings, like I don't wear that big ugly
- 1:11:41headlight on my head anymore in the mornings because they're all
- 1:11:45bright now, so, well, getting bright.
- 1:11:47So yeah, no, the weather is still pissing rain constantly,
- 1:11:51but at least it's not dark and pissing rain.
- 1:11:56Good stuff. How about you, Ron?
- 1:12:02Now you go, Dean, you go. No, no you can't, mate.
- 1:12:05OK, my week was another 60K run week, I think 5 days of running.
- 1:12:13Again, a little bit less cycling.
- 1:12:15But the main thing about this week was that I'd done my first
- 1:12:19session with Dean on Tuesday and we had RAF on the bike so the
- 1:12:26instruction was 2 by 12 minutes. I was hoping for a heart rate
- 1:12:32instruction and clearly wasn't going to be bothered about what
- 1:12:36the pace was, just wanted to make sure that the effort was
- 1:12:38right. So if it was like bear in mind
- 1:12:41I'd just been doing a couple of steady runs.
- 1:12:43So I was thinking maybe like LT1 slash tempo.
- 1:12:49Couple of steady runs off the back.
- 1:12:53Steady park run. Steady park run and then Lt. to
- 1:13:00the back end of your study on Thursday so you're primed for
- 1:13:03Tuesday. Yeah, so I've been peeking for
- 1:13:06this workout. No, but yeah.
- 1:13:08Then after the we've done a lap of Lake Mungo warm up, which
- 1:13:13felt like a blast from the past. Is this on a Tuesday?
- 1:13:20Tuesday. So you don't go track on a
- 1:13:23Tuesday anymore? Scarred for life?
- 1:13:27Just not yet. That'll be the I will go back to
- 1:13:30the track, just I'm not, I'm just doing 2 threshold workouts
- 1:13:33until I'm comfortable that it like the track just introduces
- 1:13:38more risk I think. Yeah, true.
- 1:13:43Yeah, I was thinking about going back and like running whichever
- 1:13:47group it may be like a group down or two groups down, but you
- 1:13:50just know that won't happen. You'll see the people you
- 1:13:53usually run with and then just try and run with them and it'll
- 1:13:56save you no good. But yeah, this was the actually
- 1:14:01first time put in a pair of carbon plated shoes on since
- 1:14:04last May as well. So very exciting feelings all
- 1:14:08around. I did have my flames.
- 1:14:11No where the flames. It was the the old vapor fly
- 1:14:14fours, you know, like the pink and white ones saving the flames
- 1:14:18bridges. The flame socks as well.
- 1:14:23Yeah, no, I can't wear them anymore.
- 1:14:24They give me. A terrible blisters after
- 1:14:27Ballarat because they're quite thick.
- 1:14:29Really. Beauty hurts, right?
- 1:14:33I've never had issue with the socks.
- 1:14:35I think it's because I'm I'm stupid with my shoes and I buy
- 1:14:39them like not really with much room in the end of them because
- 1:14:44I'm used to where I wear those. What's the Nike socks?
- 1:14:47The like the race socks that Nike do the dead dead thin.
- 1:14:52So then when you yeah, when you put the shoe ones on, they're a
- 1:14:56little bit thicker and I don't leave room for the thickness
- 1:15:01anyway. Yeah.
- 1:15:01So then straightaway rafts like 320 fives, yeah.
- 1:15:06And kind of scared me to be honest because besides the
- 1:15:12stupid last K of the 5K race and touched a 325 almost 12 months
- 1:15:19and then this was 2 by 12 minutes and I was hoping it
- 1:15:21would be a comfortable effort, but off we went anyway.
- 1:15:26And I think it was 336 for the 1st 1335 at like 160 beats per
- 1:15:34minute, which is like tempo comfortable, comfortably hard.
- 1:15:40And then? That's good, hey.
- 1:15:41Yeah, that's nice reintroduction.
- 1:15:44Because like, yeah, you have a really low heart rate.
- 1:15:48Do you or is it just he has been cycling a lot?
- 1:15:52Yeah, but I feel like it's just different.
- 1:15:55Totally. Like you're not running fit.
- 1:15:57That's still like, really, really good.
- 1:16:01It's good enough for Dean to sit on the back of me and not take
- 1:16:04some of the lead despite being six weeks ahead.
- 1:16:10I took it. I would just once we got out of
- 1:16:13that headwind, I went to the front.
- 1:16:19When he, when he went past, I said that was a horrible
- 1:16:21headwind. That wasn't it, Dean.
- 1:16:25Wait so they commented on my back as well for the 1st 12
- 1:16:29minutes you average 160? Yeah.
- 1:16:33Fuck forever and. Then two-minute jog and then 12
- 1:16:36minutes again at 165. This average was because I
- 1:16:41started getting excited towards the end of it.
- 1:16:44Once I knew that I was through like the scary part and pushing
- 1:16:47the pace a little. That was three 30s.
- 1:16:50So it was good fun and it was fine.
- 1:16:53The next day I was itching to run again but took sensible
- 1:16:58option and did not. And that seems to be how it's
- 1:17:02progressing. Get some sort of intensity and
- 1:17:06then take a day off and then easy run intensity day off.
- 1:17:11But now Steve said let's try and get three in a row one day off,
- 1:17:15three in a row, one day off. So that's where we're heading.
- 1:17:20And you did some writing on top of that.
- 1:17:22Done this ride session Thursday morning and alarm went off in
- 1:17:28time on Saturday to make the group ride Saturday morning and
- 1:17:32then done 85 minutes on Sunday morning.
- 1:17:36So good week. Yeah, good running, good week
- 1:17:40All in all. Feel like starting to like just
- 1:17:45starting to work again. Like I was never really too
- 1:17:49worried about fitness because that just comes back.
- 1:17:51But it's more so, you know, when you if you try and run for like
- 1:17:54an hour and you can feel your muscles or your legs breaking
- 1:17:57down, it's like, oh shit, I'm miles off it.
- 1:17:59But they come back quick, don't they?
- 1:18:03Do we know anyone else in this Bridges race coming up?
- 1:18:08Is that kid so common? Will he show up?
- 1:18:11I think he might be good head out.
- 1:18:12I think he might be Andrew Hellbush.
- 1:18:15I think he's doing it as well because stand no chance against
- 1:18:18him at the minute. Is he what use it?
- 1:18:20Is he with front runner now? He started working in the shop,
- 1:18:23but he's not. He's trained by Zander, which is
- 1:18:26Raff's new protege from Runner. But he was like private with him
- 1:18:32beforehand, so he's not joined like the group as such.
- 1:18:38He's good. He's good though.
- 1:18:39He what they run the other week 353 or 355-1500.
- 1:18:45I think he's run for five Ki think you're at like 1440, maybe
- 1:18:5030, maybe 30 something. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:18:55He was actually, he was a victim at Fremantle 10K the other year.
- 1:18:59So I would like, I would like to just I'd like to keep the one in
- 1:19:04our head to head. There we go.
- 1:19:07That was after my J up. You helped me get past them,
- 1:19:10yeah. Sorry, when is bridges OK from
- 1:19:15this down? I can't wait for this mid-april,
- 1:19:18so another right? You've loads of time.
- 1:19:20Yeah, let's go. Wonder if they'll let you live
- 1:19:28stream with Dean. I'll like get on the bike like
- 1:19:31please. I'll.
- 1:19:37Just I'm sure I had something else to mention as well, but oh.
- 1:19:40This isn't really part of my training week, but whilst it's
- 1:19:43in my mind there was the Liverpool Half marathon, my
- 1:19:47local half marathon on the weekend.
- 1:19:49I'm not going to go through the results but my like group chat
- 1:19:52of friends from back home, which would only ever have been spoken
- 1:19:56about like fussy ale like ripping each other.
- 1:20:00They've now created a spin off of the group chat and anyone
- 1:20:04who's. Half interested in running is in
- 1:20:07the stride group chat. They've given it a knit title
- 1:20:11and everything so like 5 of them don't trained up and done this
- 1:20:15half marathon on the weekend and it's so funny because that
- 1:20:19attacks one of them. Has been like asking me to help
- 1:20:21him with this training so rung him the day before to give him
- 1:20:25like a pre race motivational speech.
- 1:20:28Do's and don'ts. I've got.
- 1:20:32Until because there's a bit of a hill in there until you get to
- 1:20:35the bottom of the hill which is about 4K and it has to be very
- 1:20:40easy. No faster than 4:30 because he
- 1:20:43was going for soap 135 which is like 430 per K average said no
- 1:20:49faster than 430. There'll be loads of idiots that
- 1:20:52get too excited and go out too fast.
- 1:20:55Don't be one of them and. That is first 4 splits. 4:12
- 1:21:004/24/11 4:12 But to be fair, he, he hung on and got his 134.
- 1:21:09So I think it was a bit ugly towards the end, but he, he got
- 1:21:12it done. I'm just, it's so funny, the
- 1:21:14fact that our friendship group has turned from the way it was
- 1:21:19to now, it just kind of magnifies the running boom.
- 1:21:24It's everywhere now. Runnings borderline mainstream.
- 1:21:28It's popular, it's not popular. It's it's fashionable and it's
- 1:21:31cool. Hey, do you know what's not
- 1:21:35popular in in the Tottenham Hotspur area?
- 1:21:39Football. We don't know.
- 1:21:44We've spoken about this for anyone does know Dean.
- 1:21:46So follows Tottenham Hotspurs and they are shit soccer you've
- 1:21:56even though a good draw against Liverpool.
- 1:21:59Yeah, yeah, it's another team of shit.
- 1:22:00But Dean, come on. No, that's good, right?
- 1:22:05They play the. The.
- 1:22:08Look, I've what you did mention in your running week as well.
- 1:22:12Ryan was your your great live in person get to meet Ryan and get
- 1:22:18a hat from the double crew and you giveaways.
- 1:22:21You didn't talk about that signing autographs.
- 1:22:24He was kissing babies, taking numbers.
- 1:22:28Just giving all of our stock away.
- 1:22:32No, we it was good for not to be first.
- 1:22:33We had shop run with TRC, the run center and Puma came down on
- 1:22:38Wednesday. We got to try on the well, I
- 1:22:40tried to deviate Nitro Elite Fours, which I mean we only
- 1:22:45jogged in them, but they felt pretty good.
- 1:22:47I thought Dean did you? You just took straight off in
- 1:22:50them. Did they ever?
- 1:22:52Do they ever plate? Yeah, yeah, they're like in a
- 1:22:57slightly water doesn't say watered down because it's
- 1:23:00negative, but the fast R3 is obviously like right up here
- 1:23:04like premium aggression on the edge like every oz where's the
- 1:23:11DV8 Nitro Elite 4 is still a racer with the carbon plate, but
- 1:23:15just not as aggressive. So it's like a vapour flight.
- 1:23:20That's exactly how I'd put it in my shoe rotation.
- 1:23:24Like light, responsive, but not as much stack and meaty as some
- 1:23:33of those other super shoes, which if it was for me, I still
- 1:23:36biased towards a meaty, a slightly heavier shoe that is
- 1:23:38more responsive. But if you're looking at like a
- 1:23:41regular workout shoe, like when I'm regularly training, like,
- 1:23:44you know, the Vaporfly Threes would be my go to workout shoe,
- 1:23:48that's what that's this feels much like that reasonably
- 1:23:51stable. Yeah.
- 1:23:54Not like nice shoe like really comfortable to run in.
- 1:23:59And yeah, we've done some giveaways hour in which I was
- 1:24:02like, how are we going to determine who to give them to?
- 1:24:06And it wasn't like we were just taking one thing for a giveaway.
- 1:24:09So we had two entries for a race and five.
- 1:24:12Caps. So I was thinking, oh, we'll do
- 1:24:15some trivia. So there's.
- 1:24:17Race. HBF.
- 1:24:20OK, not bridges. You don't want anyone anyone
- 1:24:22else on that. One no no entries are closed.
- 1:24:25He would have rigged it if that was the case.
- 1:24:27We tried to keep it impartial. There was a few trivia
- 1:24:32questions. One of them was like who's the
- 1:24:35first person we ever interviewed?
- 1:24:37And someone remembered it was RAF, which was quite funny
- 1:24:40because he was stood right next to us.
- 1:24:44And then there's a couple of us who's come from the farthest
- 1:24:46away and who ran the most case last week.
- 1:24:48So that was fine. And then I stupidly decided to
- 1:24:51do this game, which was kind of hard to organize, especially
- 1:24:58with like a helmet. However many people were there
- 1:25:01felt like 100. There's probably about 25 sets
- 1:25:04of eyes on you. And it was like, I don't know if
- 1:25:08you've ever like played something like it, but it's
- 1:25:11basically 5050. So it was like if you think the
- 1:25:14Australian half marathon record holder is Izzy back Doyle, put
- 1:25:18your hands up and if you think it's Jeff Stinson, keep your
- 1:25:22hands down. And then like it's a elimination
- 1:25:25round like that. So we're going through them and
- 1:25:28then I'd only prepared like 5 questions and there's by the
- 1:25:33time I got to the end of my questions, there's still like 4
- 1:25:36people left on it. I think there's two.
- 1:25:39So then Raff just grabbed them was like, right, OK, rock,
- 1:25:41paper, scissors. So.
- 1:25:43So after all my preparation, rock paper scissors determined
- 1:25:47the winner. Ah, fair.
- 1:25:51It was good fun. Now and I.
- 1:25:53Tried to dog. Dean in when RAF free tourism
- 1:25:56was like on the Easy Double boys are here.
- 1:25:59I said, oh, I speak so much on the mic.
- 1:26:02So I was going to see if Dean had anything to say tonight, and
- 1:26:04he was just like, no, you're all right.
- 1:26:08I was waiting for the FaceTime call never came.
- 1:26:10My Internet just wouldn't work that nice.
- 1:26:14And I was, to be honest with you, I was he.
- 1:26:17Turned it off. It doesn't work on a good day.
- 1:26:20Yeah, he's always dropping in and out.
- 1:26:23I was I was flying around the place full of anxiety, couldn't
- 1:26:28keep still. You're doing well.
- 1:26:32That was good. Good way.
- 1:26:34Good. Week.
- 1:26:34Yeah, yeah. And a gym session.
- 1:26:38Were you at the gym last week as well?
- 1:26:40At the gym last week as well. Yeah.
- 1:26:42And actually when I seen Steve, he was Steve was getting on my
- 1:26:45back about not being in the gym the week before.
- 1:26:48Because you've been telling them they didn't go, but you didn't
- 1:26:51tell them it was closed on public holiday.
- 1:26:52Did you I? Didn't need to, that's all I
- 1:26:55needed to do. It sounds like it worked
- 1:27:01perfectly. But yeah, well, besides that
- 1:27:06Tuesday session and then finishing a little bit faster
- 1:27:09than I on the last Rep, what have you been up to?
- 1:27:15Yeah, I mean, pretty similar really like, So yeah.
- 1:27:19So Tuesday, Monday, easy, an easy double day including the
- 1:27:24gym. Tuesday, yeah, Tuesday morning.
- 1:27:27Did that work out with you? And then it was just six.
- 1:27:31So the first 24 minutes, no, it would have been 28 minutes
- 1:27:35including the floats. And then it was 6 minutes at the
- 1:27:37end, a bit like a bit of a pickup, I suppose, a bit.
- 1:27:45So it's still pretty media. It's like 34 minutes of workout
- 1:27:49and. I mean you think you think I'm
- 1:27:52like in a decent position to be coming back from being done the
- 1:27:58212 minutes with me like taking the piss, having a laugh with
- 1:28:02Ralph and then when and done sick was 6 minutes on the end.
- 1:28:07Yeah, 6 minutes. 308. Yep.
- 1:28:11Dean, you never really stopped though, did you?
- 1:28:13You sort of trained the whole way through this.
- 1:28:16I had three, I had three months where I didn't or 12 weeks where
- 1:28:20I had to completely deload. So only cross trained.
- 1:28:23But then for the last, then I did basically a 12 week build up
- 1:28:28to 130 KA week. And then I took like a week off.
- 1:28:31And then it's been about four weeks of 100 KS of running, 200
- 1:28:36KS of riding. OK, so I think I'll get started
- 1:28:39to turn a corner. Like I can feel myself getting
- 1:28:42fitter, which probably segues well.
- 1:28:44So Thursday, Thursday morning, we did the bike intervals in the
- 1:28:47morning and then Thursday afternoon I was, it was the
- 1:28:50first time that Ralph said I can just do the workout.
- 1:28:54Yeah, he sort of gave me some pace judge pace guidance.
- 1:28:59So it's 321321, you know, 3 minutes, 2 minutes, one minute
- 1:29:03times 2. All off one minute float.
- 1:29:06No, all off whatever the same same float.
- 1:29:09So 3 minutes on three minute float and he said like 3/23/15,
- 1:29:163:10 and but Luke was there and then Andrew was there doing 1500
- 1:29:21meter reps and it was a headwind.
- 1:29:23So I tucked in behind Andrew because I knew Luke wanted to
- 1:29:25tuck in behind me. And then Luke wasn't there and
- 1:29:29then I realized I was running with Andrew.
- 1:29:30So then after 2 minutes I looked at my pace and I was like 307
- 1:29:33and I was like, well I've started.
- 1:29:36And so yeah, anyway, averaged I think what was it 306 for the
- 1:29:44ONS and three 324 for the floats.
- 1:29:51When you say one of your floats, was it 2250 pace?
- 1:29:55It was one of the odds. Oh yeah, that was the one we
- 1:29:58Luke. Luke laid that one shock.
- 1:30:04That's the one thing I don't miss, him pushing from the.
- 1:30:06Front. Yeah, so he's the same.
- 1:30:09The good part is though, so he normally does that on the bike
- 1:30:12and I'm completely gassed and my workouts ruined.
- 1:30:14At least with this I can keep running so.
- 1:30:16Yeah, you should. You should see the power
- 1:30:18struggle, Owen, from a Thursday morning where we're a little bit
- 1:30:23out of our comfort zone, hanging on to the cyclists to then
- 1:30:27Thursday evening round Lake Munga and trying to bury all the
- 1:30:31cyclists who've held us in the morning.
- 1:30:34That's it. That's pretty much how it goes.
- 1:30:38So no, it was good. And then, yeah, 90 minutes, 100
- 1:30:41minutes thereabouts. So yeah, 100 KS are running 140
- 1:30:44KS on the bike, training loads, training in a good direction.
- 1:30:49Think I'm getting fitter. But yeah, he's just going to
- 1:30:52turn off on bridges, isn't he? He's not going to say anything.
- 1:30:54And he'll just. Be there 100% no chance.
- 1:31:01Just stop. You're just sitting down there.
- 1:31:03That's support. Supporter.
- 1:31:05Yeah, he can be drafted as a. Headwind.
- 1:31:07He won't see me. Good week.
- 1:31:12Yeah, Good come. Here we forgot 1 result.
- 1:31:16Yeah, that. Bluff.
- 1:31:18To boat ramp happened over the weekend.
- 1:31:21Former champ of that right saying that was a bad day.
- 1:31:27That race to cook to me, it was won by James Hansen here on
- 1:31:342844. Second was half two strengths
- 1:31:36off in 2848 and third was Toby Galter from New Zealand in 2855
- 1:31:42and apparently like James Hansen, entered this race like
- 1:31:46the night before. Did you say he's finished
- 1:31:50Celebration? No, by Sir.
- 1:31:53He's got good. He's a pretty solid unit.
- 1:31:56Yeah, solid is the word. Like Jake looks great, like
- 1:32:01Smith, you know, in terms of like how, you know, he talks
- 1:32:03about how he's he's he's, you know, balls up to a degree and
- 1:32:07he looks like he looks so strong.
- 1:32:10But this guy's the big unit. Yeah.
- 1:32:14What up to me? Yeah, 28 minutes.
- 1:32:17That's fine because it's not the best course, is it?
- 1:32:20It's a bit of, like you say, it's not the best course.
- 1:32:24But then he runs freaking 2844. Like I run shit.
- 1:32:27And there is a few hills when you don't want hills, boss, like
- 1:32:30hills if they're not really hills either.
- 1:32:34But yeah, there's just two pin turns.
- 1:32:37And look, when you're on 2844, like it's not a full course.
- 1:32:42You. You've run lawn system, right?
- 1:32:44I prefer lawn system. Yeah.
- 1:32:46Like, if you had a choice, Right.
- 1:32:48Yeah. I'm like, I'll talk here now
- 1:32:49with the women's result. Jane Gregson, who ran a marathon
- 1:32:53a couple weeks ago. She won it in 3316.
- 1:32:56Second was Millie Clark, she ran 34 O3.
- 1:33:00Third was Karen Blaney, she's from Ireland, she ran 3427 and
- 1:33:03I'll just go to 4th here on this one.
- 1:33:05Nicholas Sheridan, she's from like the village close to me
- 1:33:10here. She ran 3441, but she was asking
- 1:33:13me about the race previous and I was like, look, just use it as
- 1:33:17sort of like a gauge, like whatever you run here.
- 1:33:22She's I think she's gonna do a race.
- 1:33:24In Ballarat or something, then she's gonna do Launceston.
- 1:33:26Like whatever you're in here, yours, because it's gonna run
- 1:33:28way faster in Launceston. I don't know what it is about
- 1:33:30Launceston. It's just a faster race.
- 1:33:34And yeah, there's a good few nice Rd. races coming up in
- 1:33:38Australia. It's that time of year again.
- 1:33:40You've got Launceston, you've got Ballarat, then you've got
- 1:33:43Goldie and they're all coming around that Grand Prix that run
- 1:33:48Pray Melbourne. It's not sure isn't.
- 1:33:53I don't know if it's. Certified.
- 1:33:54Actually it's. Fair out.
- 1:33:56But I don't know but it's. It's around Albert Park, so
- 1:33:59you'd think it'd be fast. Yeah, well, thanks for pulling
- 1:34:02us up on that one. Yeah.
- 1:34:06Running news Couple of items to fire.
- 1:34:08Through Kip Chogi going to Melbourne Marathon.
- 1:34:11Genuinely I thought it was like a joke when I first seen it.
- 1:34:15I was like surely not how? How is it possible?
- 1:34:20He texts me and saying we need to book our flight.
- 1:34:22Someone is. Pretty excited.
- 1:34:26I'll do it. Yeah, it's good.
- 1:34:31That would be good. Actually, three of us.
- 1:34:35Oh, I'm. Not fit her on a man Tokyo next
- 1:34:38year. Oh.
- 1:34:43And but here. How much she getting for this?
- 1:34:46He's going to get a nice. Yeah, who?
- 1:34:49Who's paying it though? Like Melbourne couldn't afford
- 1:34:52them Nike stuff to do. Yeah, but some random government
- 1:34:57bigger. Bigger.
- 1:35:00Yeah. Tourism games Kitty?
- 1:35:03Yeah. It's all that.
- 1:35:04Leftover comms games, money that they.
- 1:35:06Can roll into a big. Surplus in the budget Dean Elise
- 1:35:11athletes sub two hours 23. There you go.
- 1:35:15You'll be you'll be having a shit next to Kip Chogi.
- 1:35:18Get in there. Have you looked into it?
- 1:35:22Have you? I sent them an e-mail.
- 1:35:30Not for the elite. There's one down.
- 1:35:32I don't know what it's called. Preferred or something?
- 1:35:36Yeah. Is this the one where you can?
- 1:35:38Pay. Money to.
- 1:35:40Be in with the elites. Yeah, they've got some bizarre
- 1:35:43thing going on. It's called Ryan was talking
- 1:35:45about this on the. Long run and we said at least
- 1:35:48he's got his accommodation. Already sorted whoever they've
- 1:35:54got on like doing their. Marketing and stuff, they've
- 1:35:56obviously thought. This through because they've
- 1:35:59like sold out all the general entries fixed all the website or
- 1:36:05so that like a direction towards all these expensive entries
- 1:36:09announced Kip Chogi and then just like probably just sat
- 1:36:13there watching the cash pile in because yeah they've got this
- 1:36:15club 42 thing yeah that's the thing it's supposedly only
- 1:36:20available for 42 people. So, you know, creating.
- 1:36:24Scarcity and fear mongering amongst people like oh it's
- 1:36:27going to sell out. It costs like where's it gone?
- 1:36:31It's about 1400. Dollars or two grand?
- 1:36:34Can't remember which one. You got like a couple of nights
- 1:36:37accommodation and you get a guaranteed start in a sold out
- 1:36:41race. So I am, I reckon they've sold a
- 1:36:44few since announcing Kipchogi. Well, they certainly sold one to
- 1:36:48me anyway. But yeah, that's that's a
- 1:36:52madness to be fair. Shall I cover the NCAA news or?
- 1:37:02So yeah, it's. At the NCAA Indoor Champs.
- 1:37:05Run over the weekend. And had.
- 1:37:07Tom Samuel, who for a long while we've we've spoken about and he
- 1:37:12had a bit of a drought around NCAA titles and he but has
- 1:37:17recently won one and very, very, very nearly had two over the
- 1:37:22weekend. He was the 5000 meter champ, but
- 1:37:24he also was nearly the 3000 meter champ but was disqualified
- 1:37:29because in the last coming around the last bend he was
- 1:37:35sitting in 2nd and someone was making a move on.
- 1:37:38He's outside. And he made my mind fairly
- 1:37:42aggressively moved out of the way to ensure that his run was
- 1:37:47not impacted, and then did what he needed to do to run over the
- 1:37:50top of the guy in front and get the dub.
- 1:37:53But in my opinion, I wasn't surprised with the decision.
- 1:37:58I felt like. He really impacted.
- 1:38:00The run of the third person, I don't think you can just step
- 1:38:02out of your way and push a person that's coming around you.
- 1:38:05But that's what he did. And so yeah, he got dequeued.
- 1:38:09I think he posted on his social some saying is didn't think he
- 1:38:13deserved to lose but it is what it is and well done to the
- 1:38:16winners so. But yeah, decent decent attitude
- 1:38:21and part of his post was something.
- 1:38:23Like you can DQ the results, but you can't DQ the hard work that
- 1:38:27went into it or something like that in it.
- 1:38:29Like, yeah, all the training and everything still exists.
- 1:38:32The shape is still there. And he did that, kicked those
- 1:38:37guys. I mean, albeit he.
- 1:38:38Just made a tactical misstep. I think like it's so hard.
- 1:38:42We talk about that, that small bank, and you don't want to run
- 1:38:46wide and he's trying to just protect his position, but some
- 1:38:50guy was coming up on the outside of him and he basically wanted
- 1:38:53none of it. That's the Marco.
- 1:38:55That was that Marco Langan guy. So hey, guys, is is not the
- 1:39:00Villanova, is he the. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:39:03Which he's wild. Hey.
- 1:39:04Yeah. Apparently he was given Jonathan
- 1:39:07Gould some shit in an interview. I haven't.
- 1:39:10Clicked play on it yet everyone like is not a fan and then I
- 1:39:14think off the back of that into you.
- 1:39:15See the. Interview and now everyone's oh
- 1:39:18not a huge fan but now I kind of love him because you know really
- 1:39:22respects his comments and all that and blah blah blah it was
- 1:39:27just about like should have been a DQ and.
- 1:39:30Did he appeal it? And your man Lang was like, I
- 1:39:33don't care. I lost the race.
- 1:39:35And then he posted on Instagram June.
- 1:39:37Full stop. Because that's what an outdoors
- 1:39:39is. And it was good, right?
- 1:39:42Because yeah, he's like, stop asking me questions about the
- 1:39:44protest. Like he's like I lost.
- 1:39:46And the guy's like, yes, but if you got reinstated, how would
- 1:39:49you feel? And he's like, I lost.
- 1:39:52And everyone was just like, fuck yeah.
- 1:39:54Like, what a good attitude. He's like, basically, I tried to
- 1:39:56win. I didn't win.
- 1:39:57And so everyone respected that. Does he end up saying something
- 1:40:00like if anyone's got a problem then they can?
- 1:40:04We can source it outside something some points I mean he
- 1:40:08seems. Like the Tyler would say.
- 1:40:09That he's pretty, yes. Got a fair bit of going in as he
- 1:40:13was saying, like if you keep on asking me, I'm just going to
- 1:40:15never. Answer questions.
- 1:40:16Anymore, he's like, give me some, give me another question.
- 1:40:19He just had to move into the next interview.
- 1:40:22Interview. It was good.
- 1:40:23I don't know if you've seen this, like the second part of
- 1:40:26the NCAA is about the division. Three guy, so I can't remember
- 1:40:32the details. I won't try and cover it
- 1:40:33properly, but there's a guy who is.
- 1:40:37You got it. Yeah, I know.
- 1:40:39I I listened to the podcast about it.
- 1:40:42So he. Was with.
- 1:40:45He was with Iona and then it came out that a lot of Iona team
- 1:40:50members were getting, what's the word?
- 1:40:56Their college wasn't letting them run basically.
- 1:40:58But they wouldn't say the. Reason.
- 1:41:00Then one kid moves to a different College in Division
- 1:41:05Three and then starts winning all these races and beating
- 1:41:08records. And then it's come out that a
- 1:41:12lad on his old team in Iona took a picture of like his e-mail and
- 1:41:17there's like a purchase receipt of like EPO basically bought.
- 1:41:25And now there's basically uproar.
- 1:41:26Like, did Iona know this before he transferred to a different
- 1:41:30college? Like who's at fault?
- 1:41:32Like the chap is still running, but the NCAA, like it's such a
- 1:41:36high level of running, but they don't get tested.
- 1:41:38It's or they have to be on some list to get tested.
- 1:41:41It's so stupid. But yeah, so there's a load of
- 1:41:45stuff about that. And like, because they're all
- 1:41:47underage or I don't know, you can't say much.
- 1:41:50You have to hide their identities and this sort of
- 1:41:51shit. But yeah, apparently he's, umm,
- 1:41:55juiced up but getting a lot of records.
- 1:41:58Did you see the podium or the because he's he stood on the top
- 1:42:02podium and for some. Reason because he won the race
- 1:42:05this weekend. Some reason.
- 1:42:06They have like 7 people there so they've got like second and
- 1:42:09third as they do and then for 5th, 6th, 7th and as soon as
- 1:42:14they like make them all stand there, the other six just turn
- 1:42:19around and walk off and then he's just stood.
- 1:42:21There on the podium by. Himself.
- 1:42:24So it's like a proper protest walk off.
- 1:42:29Like it's so easily done. To get this shit like it's.
- 1:42:34So easily accessible these days, but yeah, there's if there, I
- 1:42:39think what was the I think the let's.
- 1:42:41Run guys done a really big. And there's probably a forum on
- 1:42:45it. And invest more.
- 1:42:47Yeah, across the pond, Duplantis was doing what Duplantis does.
- 1:42:53Bests. What does best and moves that
- 1:42:57pole vault up a little centimeter and gets another
- 1:42:59world record while his. Song is playing in the.
- 1:43:02Background, which it's actually pretty catchy and you didn't
- 1:43:07have the theme he yeah, he. Jumped 631 and I think it's
- 1:43:14just. Crazy like.
- 1:43:15Jumping 6 meters is such a big thing.
- 1:43:17And he's just so far over it, like he's.
- 1:43:20Yeah. I mean, you saw the response
- 1:43:22Curtis Marshall had when he cleared it, right?
- 1:43:24Yeah. And then this guy's putting a
- 1:43:26foot on top. Yeah.
- 1:43:29Really cool. Yeah.
- 1:43:30And got some track in the news again.
- 1:43:33Apparently, Michael Johnson paid himself half a mil when he knew
- 1:43:39that it was in the shitter. Basically, Yeah.
- 1:43:45It's just this league is I don't think it's ever going to
- 1:43:48reappear. And if it does, no one's going
- 1:43:50to do it. And I feel bad for Michael
- 1:43:52Johnson because he's just ruined his whole, like, legacy.
- 1:43:56Does he get to keep the five half a mil?
- 1:43:58If so, I feel definitely feel less bad for him.
- 1:44:02Yeah. I don't know.
- 1:44:03It is. It is half a season's work.
- 1:44:05Half the season got cancelled and he's managed to pocket half
- 1:44:08a mil. It's like Ange, when he got
- 1:44:11reappointed, what was he? Was it Nottingham Forest for two
- 1:44:15weeks? Yeah.
- 1:44:17I think got his contract paid out.
- 1:44:18This is the dream. Yeah, over.
- 1:44:23Here. Umm, I don't know is little.
- 1:44:26In Australia or is it? ALDI, ALDI, ALDI.
- 1:44:30So basically in Ireland, the UK, there's little and.
- 1:44:32ALDI and I don't know, I think. They're two brothers, or.
- 1:44:35Something like that but they basically sell the same stuff
- 1:44:38and little and started selling cabin plated shoes for £50 and I
- 1:44:43actually went in. That's where I do my shopping
- 1:44:45get him. I, I feel I felt them and I'll.
- 1:44:48Did you put them on? Yeah.
- 1:44:49And I, I wouldn't, I wouldn't be buying them.
- 1:44:52I wouldn't waste the £50 now. And I think Hugo Frye came up,
- 1:44:58flew over to Ireland and bought them and he'd done a session in
- 1:45:02them. And.
- 1:45:04Yeah. What do you think?
- 1:45:05It's a review. It's the opera is shit, like
- 1:45:08doesn't really lock down. It's really roomy or something
- 1:45:11like that. But you can live with the bad
- 1:45:13upper if you got a responsive. I'm not if your foot's moving
- 1:45:18around, I don't think. No.
- 1:45:19You're just tired. Strap some tape around it.
- 1:45:23Bit of duct tape. There's the little sponsorship
- 1:45:26out the window. Dean just ruined it.
- 1:45:30That's. Another one terrace with
- 1:45:32Terence. Room I might just want them.
- 1:45:34Up but their daily trainers, their daily trainers are so.
- 1:45:43No, don't get your running gear from little.
- 1:45:45Use code little that. And then, yeah, the world.
- 1:45:51World. Indoor championships are coming
- 1:45:53up this weekend and Jack. Can't see someone sent through.
- 1:45:57A couple of times he done a post because he's been left out of
- 1:45:59the team and he wasn't too happy.
- 1:46:01A little bit disappointed to be honest.
- 1:46:04I haven't, I don't know, kind of like his reasoning.
- 1:46:07You're across a Dean or no? I just read his post and I just
- 1:46:11thought it was a really like. Interesting reflection and
- 1:46:15pretty fair minded, but also, and yeah, I mean I can read read
- 1:46:22it. Or read parts of it.
- 1:46:24But he he basically. Is just commenting.
- 1:46:26That yeah, he was left off the team and might hit the standards
- 1:46:33was in the quarter. He'd done everything, yeah.
- 1:46:36And that yet was left out, you know?
- 1:46:40So yeah, his first couple of paragraphs talk about that, and
- 1:46:42then he's gone. It's frustrating to.
- 1:46:44Sacrifice quality, weeks of training and spent thousands of
- 1:46:47dollars travelling around the world to meet arbitrary
- 1:46:49requirements for the chance to represent my country on the
- 1:46:51world stage. Something I'd be incredibly
- 1:46:54proud to do, only for the spot to ultimately go unfilled.
- 1:46:57I don't usually speak up about these about things like this.
- 1:47:01At the end of the day, I know I'm fortunate to make a living
- 1:47:03of doing what I from doing what I love and there are far more
- 1:47:06important things happening in the world.
- 1:47:08But this isn't the first time that I or other hard working
- 1:47:11Australian athletes have been left have been on the wrong end
- 1:47:15of selection policies that that do the athletes no favors and
- 1:47:19make little sense is speaking up help creates A fairer process
- 1:47:23and gives future athletes a better opportunity to gain
- 1:47:26championship experience than it's worth it in my eyes.
- 1:47:30And there was a lot of like support from various other
- 1:47:34Aussies, you know, commenting in response, either liking it or
- 1:47:40commenting it. And I don't know.
- 1:47:42I like, I think my first reflection is I always thought
- 1:47:46I, I know Australian selection policy isn't perfect, but for
- 1:47:50the most part they look to try and select bigger teams,
- 1:47:53particularly if juxtapose against like UK, like British
- 1:47:57athletics and New Zealand, New Zealand athletics.
- 1:48:01So I was a little bit surprised. Like I remember some years ago
- 1:48:04they used to have spots not filled.
- 1:48:08But a lot of the controversy for Australian athletics in more
- 1:48:10recent times centres around who that pick, not that they don't
- 1:48:14fill spots. So yeah, I don't know.
- 1:48:17Very disappointing. And he's put it so sensibly and
- 1:48:21sensitively. Well, especially.
- 1:48:25I mean we. Yeah, sorry.
- 1:48:26You look at the at the team. So.
- 1:48:29He would have been in for the 15. 100 meter spot, wouldn't he?
- 1:48:32That was, that's his, his dance. And they're only sending one
- 1:48:37person, Adam Spencer. So it's not even as if they've
- 1:48:40chosen someone else over him. It's just a vacant spot.
- 1:48:43That's what yeah, that's what he says on field, that that's what
- 1:48:46pisses me off. They're actually just not
- 1:48:47sending. The full team, even though he's
- 1:48:49hit the standard he's run for like, yeah, it's bullshit.
- 1:48:53Yeah, I I don't understand how organisations.
- 1:48:58Like they're large enough and. Big enough and ultimately aren't
- 1:49:01they government funded? So like they they need to set up
- 1:49:05their funding such that people that particularly like the World
- 1:49:08Athletics has had such a good revamp with the point system and
- 1:49:12incentivizing athlete to race their national championships and
- 1:49:15doing all these things to set the sport up for success.
- 1:49:18And yet people can't. Then when they meet, like you
- 1:49:21said, I've met, he's like, I've invested a big chunk of my life
- 1:49:24financial commitment and the opportunity cost, I'm sure a
- 1:49:28financial return in order to make these arbitrary
- 1:49:30requirements laid down by Athletics Australia.
- 1:49:33So he's done everything he can do, yet someone's decided he's
- 1:49:37not worthy of representing the country yet.
- 1:49:39These qualifying standards are the hardest standards to have
- 1:49:42ever been set really. Like we all know they've gotten
- 1:49:46quicker and quicker. They're super fast and he's met
- 1:49:48them and he's not allowed to participate.
- 1:49:51And it's a quota system governed by the world body and
- 1:49:56Australia's not short of a dollar.
- 1:49:59Like, how do you how do you not have the funding, the capacity
- 1:50:02to fund athletes to participate? It just doesn't make much sense.
- 1:50:08So and just. Turns you away from.
- 1:50:11It would turn people aspiring to do what he's.
- 1:50:14Doing. Away from athletics because it's
- 1:50:18because there's stuff like this, yeah, pretty shit.
- 1:50:25And then the most. Annoying part is on the back of
- 1:50:27it. Like Australian?
- 1:50:29Athletics don't even have to answer or don't even have to be
- 1:50:33seen. Like they can just say nothing
- 1:50:35and do nothing and in a couple of weeks this will be a non
- 1:50:38story and it'll be on to the next thing.
- 1:50:40Yet no change will be implemented and the athlete
- 1:50:45won't have any answer. Or won't.
- 1:50:46Be compensated. It's some sort of athlete union,
- 1:50:51yeah. But like it.
- 1:50:54It just hits him so much harder because.
- 1:50:56Like, surely he's like making. National teams in his.
- 1:50:58Contract like getting. Bonuses and all that sort of
- 1:51:01stuff, yeah. And he's done everything to make
- 1:51:05it. Yeah.
- 1:51:06It's so not fair. Yeah.
- 1:51:08YouTube Diaries is next. Yeah.
- 1:51:12So I. Thought I'd throw this one.
- 1:51:13Out. Out there so a little bit.
- 1:51:16Leftist centre, but have you heard of Alice Bakwi?
- 1:51:23Yes, so she's so she has a an. App called.
- 1:51:28Forerunners and it's like Pilates and mobility work out.
- 1:51:34I was chatting to Susie on yesterday's long run.
- 1:51:37I know she subscribes and I know the likes of like Izzy and Jen
- 1:51:41tag Alice level forerunners in sometimes, you know, sometimes
- 1:51:45they talk about it in terms of their mobility and Pilates
- 1:51:51workouts. So they do.
- 1:51:51Anyway, gave it a try yesterday during the New York City half
- 1:51:56stream. So I was copying a bit of stick
- 1:51:59because we're trying to listen to Ellis guide us through our
- 1:52:02mobility class house and I and I've got the New York City
- 1:52:06Coventry running in the background.
- 1:52:07But anyway, I ran much better on my way into work this morning
- 1:52:11off the back of it, I think so they're like 10 to there's.
- 1:52:15So there's a paid app, paid platform that you can subscribe
- 1:52:19to and get much more customized training.
- 1:52:21But there's a whole suite of videos on YouTube that are 10 to
- 1:52:2515 minutes long. And it's targeted Pilates, like
- 1:52:29floor Pilates and like, mobility exercises for different parts of
- 1:52:33you. Is this one Izzy puts up on her
- 1:52:36story over like a time lapse? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:52:39I think we should comment on this like episode if you want
- 1:52:42Dean to do like this is you wonder why I've been busted for
- 1:52:50six months? Watch this.
- 1:52:52Watch that time. Lapse and you'll understand why.
- 1:52:55Like I'm a disgrace. Genuine.
- 1:52:58So Hal's is laughing because there's one way you you know,
- 1:53:00when you sit down on your knees and then your knees, you want to
- 1:53:04rest back onto your feet. That's sore.
- 1:53:07Honestly, my felt like my ankles are about to like pop out lucky.
- 1:53:10Like it like an if there's a kneecap in your ankles, it would
- 1:53:13have shot out like a hockey puck going to hockey golf, like I was
- 1:53:16in so much distress and like opening your hips up.
- 1:53:18We just did one that was around some hip mobility and by the end
- 1:53:23of it much improved. But yeah, in dire need of doing
- 1:53:29something like this. So hopefully it's a regular.
- 1:53:32In my life because I. Think I need it.
- 1:53:34That's it. This is a great show, Owen.
- 1:53:36There's the the paid content we've been searching for.
- 1:53:42It's incredibly how like not mobile you need to be.
- 1:53:46To run in a. Straight line for a long period
- 1:53:49of time, but I think there's a tipping point, which is I'll
- 1:53:54tell you what. Oh, and I'll do the time lapse
- 1:53:55of the. Pilates and you can.
- 1:53:57Give us an insight into your the circuit class, the circuit class
- 1:54:03of the ladies, you guys. When you come to Ireland, you
- 1:54:07are more than welcome to join us.
- 1:54:10Got good music? Go in really good vibe.
- 1:54:13What's the group called? It's called Kill tail ladies on
- 1:54:18the run, kill tail the area and ladies, even though there's a
- 1:54:25lot of lads. Doing it now as well.
- 1:54:28Yeah, no, it's good. It's good stuff.
- 1:54:30I think the Kenyans are mad into them sort of classes, step box
- 1:54:35and you 1K dumbbells everything. Is that prescribed by by coach
- 1:54:43for you, Owen or self to yourself?
- 1:54:46No. I coach runs the classes so I
- 1:54:49just tagged along. Is that his wife does it?
- 1:54:52Fiona. Yeah, Nice.
- 1:54:53There you go. But yeah, Forerunners.
- 1:54:59On. YouTube check it out.
- 1:55:01Or maybe I'll commit to try and one between.
- 1:55:04Now and next record it's 10 minutes like they're 10 to 15.
- 1:55:07Minutes. So how about both years do time?
- 1:55:10Lapses. And we can, we can vote on which
- 1:55:12one is more flexible or at least flexible.
- 1:55:17It's not pretty. No.
- 1:55:20Thanks for that double. Trouble.
- 1:55:24Any takers? I want Lassie, get to your
- 1:55:29turning. Line.
- 1:55:35I'm. Feel I'm feeling very positive
- 1:55:37now that I'm back. Running.
- 1:55:38I don't want to. We've we've been going long
- 1:55:41enough here. Double.
- 1:55:45Double. Trouble next week?
- 1:55:47Yeah, I don't want. To force it, they have to be
- 1:55:49authentic. I think we had a few.
- 1:55:52We had a few things that were, you know.
- 1:55:55Selection policy where you can't select.
- 1:55:57Table. There you go.
- 1:55:58Yeah, Jack Antsy had the. Double trouble himself.
- 1:56:02Yeah, fucking Americans. Call in a pretty flat course.
- 1:56:05Silly as well. That sort of wind me up.
- 1:56:07That got. You going in at 34 meters over 5
- 1:56:09KS, 210 debut marathons. Look, yeah, I mean.
- 1:56:18We've we've run over that a few times, but yeah.
- 1:56:21Winning a winning it by like a major fairly significant
- 1:56:25marathon by 8 minutes as well. Yeah, but I hate doing this
- 1:56:28because every good result I think they're dirty, but like
- 1:56:33certain like surely they're not all dirty.
- 1:56:35Like you have to sort of look at it like she might be a
- 1:56:38phenomenal runner. Yeah.
- 1:56:44Last. Points I wanted to mention this
- 1:56:46before Wells is this weekend I mentioned.
- 1:56:49It briefly to Dean yesterday, but Cam Myers is not doing Weld
- 1:56:55indoors, right? He's chosen to do Murray plant
- 1:56:57instead. And then you look at what
- 1:57:00happened with Team USA's qualifying for the 1500 meters
- 1:57:04Hawker and the goose never made it.
- 1:57:06Was is it Nathan Martin or green?
- 1:57:11Yeah, green, Green. And then Luke Couser.
- 1:57:14Or. Yeah, so 2 Obviously they're
- 1:57:18good enough because they beat Hawker and the Goose, but I
- 1:57:21mean, Myers had fanciest chance against those two, more so than
- 1:57:24bloody the other two. And yeah, he's I mean, obviously
- 1:57:30he's made this decision months ago is it's not like he knew
- 1:57:33this was going to happen. But the Team GB as well, I think
- 1:57:36Josh Kerr is doing the three K. So the 1500 meters isn't as
- 1:57:41strong as what it could the weather should have been, would
- 1:57:43have been a great chance. So we're saying Andre Costco is
- 1:57:48going to win. Oh wow.
- 1:57:50It's open though. It's one of those.
- 1:57:51It's right wide open. I wonder if Beamish is going to
- 1:57:55do it again. Oh yeah, we set up for someone
- 1:57:59with wheels. Is Ruth doing it?
- 1:58:01Clashes with school I. Think was the narrative.
- 1:58:05He's got a math assignment. G same day whereas how funny
- 1:58:10apparently for that Cooper. Look, announced the American.
- 1:58:12It's spring break, so he can go. Kiss.
- 1:58:17But yeah, maybe we'll we'll put a post.
- 1:58:20Out later in the week with our metal.
- 1:58:21Predictions and we'd. Love to hear yours too.
- 1:58:24All right boys, that's us done. Another long episode.
- 1:58:28Thanks for your time again. Next week follow like subscribe
- 1:58:34all that shit. Go on lads chat show.
