- 0:02[SPEAKER_00]: What's up guys, guys, here.
- 0:03[SPEAKER_00]: It is Sunday afternoon, Sunday evening, really.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm doing a YouTube video and a podcast kind of more podcast out here.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_00]: It has been, I've done a couple videos, short videos.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_00]: It has been a long time when it comes to the pod.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_00]: couple of weeks, very unusual, even when I go on vacation for two weeks, I do a podcast, so I have neglected you.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_00]: Some of you, most of you are aware of what's going on, so I want to talk about the game, not so much about me or whatever, but I guess it is my podcast.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: I've been told this over the years, like, tell people what you're up to.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: They're listening to you.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: They might care a little bit, so I will try and continue to do that.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, fill it in for Greg Papa.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: Again, those of you on YouTube know that.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, those of you listening to the podcast know that.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_00]: And there were somebody set me a message that are you not doing a podcast because you can't anymore.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: And that is not the case.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: I can and will continue to.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: And I've just been trying to figure out
- 1:09[SPEAKER_00]: For the future, like in the next few, what I say, future, I don't mean the future.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_00]: I mean for the next few weeks, how next month, once college football starts, how can I just keep everything moving and also make sure I, you know.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_00]: not wearing down from all this manual labor.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_00]: But we'll figure that out.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_00]: There's no issue.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_00]: No one said don't do it to be perfectly transparent.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: The thing, which I try to be, but the thing that happened, let's see, we called an honor game on Sunday or Saturday.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_00]: That was yesterday.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: If you listen this Monday, it was two days ago, but so like the previous week was when Greg Poppa, the voice of the nineners, a friend of all of our, but a friend, more than a friend, but he announced on that previous Friday that he had cancer.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: I was a practice.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: That day I was a practice that he for, you know, had some indication of what was going on.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: because I was going to need to fill in for him on, you know, short notice.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: And I just didn't feel like it.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't feel like, you know, like the Thursday or whatever day it was walking out of practice and doing a podcast or doing like a recap.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: And then Friday, I certainly didn't feel like
- 2:39[SPEAKER_00]: I wanted to do something, and so I didn't.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_00]: Sunday, I went down and talked to a bunch of the miners' coaches.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_00]: So I feel like I've got stuff for you, and I'll have stuff for you that hopefully is worth watching and listening to.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_00]: And I plan on not being the same stuff.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: A couple other ideas I got.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_00]: We're kicking some ideas around.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't feel like it.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_00]: Like I just, I some of you might have seen like Tuesday.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't do a podcast feed, but Tuesday on YouTube.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_00]: I did it and ended up being like a two minute video.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_00]: I started it just to talk about Greg briefly and what I was doing.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_00]: And I thought, okay, and then maybe I'll talk about the Niners, the NFL, that sort of thing.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_00]: And I just,
- 3:23[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't want to, so I didn't do it.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm back in the mode now, I think, and we got some stuff to talk about from the game.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_00]: But a lot of you, one thing I do want to say, a lot of, I mean, so many people, DMs, Instagram, tweets, sent me a lot of messages, and whether it was before the game or during the game or after the game, a ton before
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: which was, I'm sorry, I'm not getting back to it.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's not that I'm not getting back to everybody.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_00]: I'm hardly getting back to anybody.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_00]: And that was part of not doing a podcast less week.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: I just wanted to focus on, here's this game.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_00]: Let's just do this right.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: Let's do this right and then start to open the circle back up again.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, thank you.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_00]: I appreciate the support.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's really cool to, there's two really different worlds.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_00]: like the television radio play by play world, the YouTube world, are two very different things.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: And I like that I've got my foot in each of them and that they help each other, like the fact that I've been doing all the nighter stuff, YouTube helps me call a game.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the fact that I call a game, and that's a member of that, the traditional media, so to speak, and I came up in that world with a certain feeling of like how to balance both things, how to be around a team, and how I want to communicate when I'm in a casual setting like YouTube, or whatever.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_00]: All that stuff, I think contributes, they contribute to each other.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, a lot of you people said messages, and I really appreciate them.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think I saw a lot of them.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: I'm trying that to, as Lade Kiffin says, I think it's a saving thing like you can, you know, don't eat the rat, don't eat the rat poison, taste it, spit it out.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: I just was trying to stay focused on what I need to stay focused on, you know, get ready for the game, get ready to call it an infel game, which I had never done before, which I did for the first time on Saturday, and it was cool.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you guys got to see the forty-nineters television booth,
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: Now, this is the national TV booth, but this is the booth that when you watch a Niners production of a preseason game, this is the one.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: And for those of you watching the YouTube, I'm putting a video up in it.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_00]: The rumor is, and I've sent some messages.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: The rumor is that they consulted Joe Buck on this thing.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's humongous.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_00]: It's got a bathroom in it.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's got a good depth on the desk and there's plenty of elbow room.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: That's all your end.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's got an incredible vantage point.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_00]: That's all you really need.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_00]: It's, but it's a lot to ask in most places.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, it's an incredible spot and I loved it.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_00]: And I can't go back to doing games any other place than in that booth because it was incredible.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_00]: The other thing I got a message on during the game was that we got our first Hawkeye virtual measurement.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: And I told Tim Ryan, because Tim likes to guess, you know, I hear him with Greg's like, oh, I think it's six inches.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's a seven inches till the line again.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_00]: And I said, well, the beauty of this Hawkeye is that it's going to tell us exactly.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_00]: And indeed, and we had it early in the game, they throw the measurements up.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_00]: It says one, and one, asterisk.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_00]: And I go, oh, it's one inch.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_00]: And I got a lot of messages for people.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_00]: So it said, you know that's one foot.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_00]: That's not one inch.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_00]: And the answer is, yes, I do know that.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe in that moment, I didn't, I don't know what I was thinking.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_00]: I was in the mode of thinking, like how many inches is it going to be until the line again?
- 7:04[SPEAKER_00]: And then I just screwed it up.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: So I am aware of that information.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think on the graphic, it looks so small.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I don't know if this has been clearly explained to everybody.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think a lot of you, if you've been watching a lot of preseason football, you know this.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_00]: The line to gain measurement, it's just based on where the official plants the ball down and then there's some, there's six eight K cameras in each stadium that then do the measurement once the official places the ball.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: So they don't actually, those cameras don't watch the play and then help them move the ball to the right spot.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: Now I've heard that some people talk about, there is a chip in the ball.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: There is a chip in the ball that tracks the movement of the ball, but that is not related to the first-down spot.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_00]: The chip in the ball and the players have these chips in their shoulder pads.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_00]: That's something different.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_00]: If you've seen any of the next gen stats, information, some of the advanced
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: kind of tracking information that they get.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_00]: That's what the chip in the ball does.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_00]: So there is a chip in the ball, but the chip in the ball has nothing to do with these first down measurements.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_00]: I liked it.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was cool.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_00]: And for everybody to see it together on a big screen and then either screens are huge.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_00]: They upgraded, you know, Super Bowl, sixties coming to Levi Stadium.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: They are the the largest
- 8:27[SPEAKER_00]: for K, they're not the largest screens in the league, but they're the largest for K screens in the league.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_00]: They're much bigger and I got to admit standing there in the booth.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'm looking around, but this is, this is Levi's Stadium.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: It was pretty good.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, there is that.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: I was thinking maybe this week, I'll do maybe Monday, maybe Tuesday.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going with the team on Wednesday to Las Vegas, so I'll be in Vegas.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_00]: Teamplane Wednesday.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: Business casual team playing Wednesday, joint practice with the Raiders Thursday, day off Friday, and then I'll be calling the game with Tim Ryan, feeling it for Greg again on Saturday, one o'clock.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: Niners Raiders, maybe I'll go, you know, edge pop as name somewhere in some far corner of a Legion stadium with a pocket knife or something, but
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, I feel like I'm kind of feeling why I may bad.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if it's going to be a full normal schedule, but I thought maybe I would do a live.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't done it well.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_00]: I'm maybe Monday or Tuesday morning.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure some of you have questions.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: I got my for those of you watching.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_00]: I got my full liners board here.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_00]: I thought give people a tour of that at some point.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_00]: But I just got my board in front of me and I'm going to go through it.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_00]: You know, give you some thoughts.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, Denver, I think is good.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: Denver was good last year.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_00]: Their divisions really tough.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: The AFC's tough.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think they're great.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_00]: I love what they've got on defense right with Nick Bonito and Patrick Sertan.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: I like all these guys.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_00]: And I think they've got some explosive offensive players, some speed, you know, bone next through twenty nine touchdowns last year, second most for a rookie in
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: NFL history, Justin Herbert has the record of thirty one back in twenty twenty, you know, that list is all recent rookies.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_00]: So it's a little, it's, you know, it's a, it's awesome.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_00]: And if I drafted a, if I drafted Bones, and he threw twenty nine touchdown passes and was second on that list, I'd feel amazing about it.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, of the top thirteen guys on that list, only two of them are from before two thousand.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: One is Peyton Manning.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_00]: in ninety eight and one is Jim Kelly in in nineteen eighty six when he through twenty two touchdowns so um... you know it's a very that list has a lot of recency offensive explosion all that i still think in the grand grand scheme don't actually really good in the joint practice on Thursday still think in the grand scheme like the question is can they effectively and efficiently consistently throw the ball beyond around the line of scrimmage i know some people say no no that's that's that's a misnomer that's not really what they do but it's what they did in
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: That's what they did at Oregon.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_00]: And I do think it's a lot of what happened last year.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: So that's a big question for them and until they figure that out, can they do it, can they grow?
- 11:09[SPEAKER_00]: And it's early.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's young.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_00]: He's coming into a second year.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_00]: But that's what you're up against in the AFC.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_00]: And I know people are going to say, well, that's almost homes does.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: But I know Patrick can't push the ball down the field, put any way.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to get too much into the Denver Broncos here.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_00]: Let's run, let's run through a few things.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: Mac Jones looked really good, happy with Mac Jones.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: I was thinking about something Kyle Shanahan said, my, you know, one of my favorite Kyle Shanahan quotes from before the nighters drafted train lands.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_00]: They did that press conference.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_00]: He said there aren't thirty two people on the face of the earth.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: They can play quarterback in acceptable level.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_00]: I fully believe that.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think it really highlights when you have a quarterback
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: Mac Jones, who can play quarterback at an acceptable level, will he be a starter again in the NFL?
- 11:56[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he gave the nighter that second year of control and that and cheaply.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: So it seems like he's at least willing to settle in with San Francisco and spend some time with Shanahan.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_00]: But he can definitely play especially for QB two at an acceptable level.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you think about last year with the Niners needed, they needed QB two at a critical juncture of their season.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_00]: They were five and five when Brandon Allen had to go start in Green Bay and didn't go well.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: And you hope you don't need your backup quarterback to start.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't need Sam Donald to start the year before.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: He was good enough to go when you game or if you got to play three, maybe give you a chance to win two.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think Matt Jones is going to be good enough.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: After that, the quarterback play is not good.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: at all.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: It would now Carter Bradley's only been on the team ten days, but he and ten or more to guy had a night to forget no question about it.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_00]: Hard to know exactly on the offensive line from a starting standpoint because Ben Bartz was the only guy at left guard.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_00]: that's going to be a starter, but one thing, you know, the word is the offensive line coach for the forty-nineers Chris Forster said, we may not have a swing tackle, we may have a backup left tackle in a backup right tackle, Austin Pleasant's a right tackle and Spencer Burford at left tackle, and that I don't know, that's going to be good enough, especially at left tackle.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_00]: If it was tough, it was really tough yesterday.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: So it's hard to make big judgments on the offensive line because those weren't the starters, but understanding that you're going to need a third tackle at some point.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_00]: And the guys they got can't enter change on the other side of the formation.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_00]: And that's a concern and that's a fair concern Jake Moody.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think Thomas Moore still is going to be excellent.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_00]: You don't see him a ton in camp, but I think he's going to be excellent was nice to see the long snapper John Weeks.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_00]: Make a tackle John Weeks that is thirty nine years old.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_00]: He's got an incredible story.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_00]: John Weeks, played at Baylor, walked on at Baylor, played at Baylor, tried to make an NFL team didn't make it.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_00]: So he was a firefighter in training.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_00]: This is on my board from yesterday.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, what am I going to get this in?
- 14:01[SPEAKER_00]: Probably never.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe I'll get it in.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to try to get this in in a game.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_00]: So if you hear this in a game, you already heard it here.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_00]: But he was a firefighter in training.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_00]: He was working the graveyard shift as a hospital cat scan assistant.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_00]: And this is two thousand nine and he's on duty.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_00]: He's in Arizona.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: The Panthers are playing the cardinals.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_00]: Jake the loan gets hit and has like a, you know, they want to do a chess x-ray or whatever on him, chess contusion.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_00]: John Weeks is this CAT scan assistant on duty with Jake the Lome comes in.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: And two years later, he goes and works out for the Texans.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_00]: He makes the team and Jake the Lome's his teammate.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_00]: Pretty crazy.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, so that's not his long snap or that's not.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_00]: Now there's receivers.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_00]: Great catch.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_00]: Jordan Watkins has been great.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I thought it was interesting.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: That's just a fifty-yard catch, but they tried to get him a couple of those, you know, the kind of jet sweep and the quick bubble screen didn't work great.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_00]: Don't think the blocking was great, but it's nice to see that at least it feels like he belongs.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_00]: The Marcus Robinson, their first two drives, they threw the ball to him.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't need a game to tell me.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_00]: He belongs.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_00]: I saw it in practice.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen his numbers.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to get suspended for two games for three games.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's going to hurt because he's impactful.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_00]: Didn't get Ricky Pierce all.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody else really from a receiving standpoint didn't get to see much of Russell Gage.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_00]: You know, but Junior Bergen, as a receiver, I don't know.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it had a nice return, but it doesn't feel like there in terms of guys that played the first preseason game.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of answers there.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_00]: Ricky Pierce also looked really good in camp.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_00]: Had a great catch on Jaday Barron and some of you may have seen on Thursday night, but they were like, you know, they just wasn't much of this game.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_00]: A mirror of Dula, you know, they tried.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_00]: Corey Kiner, the rookie running back,
- 16:03[SPEAKER_00]: Like, if he just stays healthy, he breaks tackles.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_00]: He was fifth in forced mis tackles.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_00]: Last year, Ash and Jinti was one.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_00]: Camp Scataboo was two in that category.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's Cincinnati.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_00]: He's got a little something.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it feels like he's got a natural feel that, you know, you don't know if Garendo has, in terms of running.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_00]: He's smaller and he's compact, you know, Garendo's a little more upright.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_00]: I horrendous, you know, hurt and he's been hurt.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_00]: And so I like Corey Kiner.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's got a shot to actually, you know, make an impact.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: You know, last year, remember the night I said, so if we're running back, and you just, you know,
- 16:45[SPEAKER_00]: a Corey Schrader, they didn't keep him, they tried to get him through waivers, he didn't get through waivers, the Rams claimed him.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_00]: I hope that not in that position with Corey Kiner, because there's more I want to see there with him.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: I think defensively was really, you know, up to Stout was the guy everybody, myself included, we're all looking forward to seeing, didn't play.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: A little tweak, whatever you want to call it, from the joint practice Thursday, hopefully he's back soon.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we don't really get
- 17:12[SPEAKER_00]: to see the Rado Green, the Amador Lenore up in Stout Group.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_00]: We haven't seen them together in a while, but up to Stout's been awesome.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_00]: Awesome.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_00]: I talked to his college head coach, Tyson, helped me the other day in preparation for the, for the preseason game.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_00]: And this is something I'll use on TV.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: So you'll get access to it first here for, for, for free.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_00]: But Tyson helped and said the, one of the reasons he thinks stout is fitting in so well, in addition to all the stuff that the manager said, like he's tough, he's physical.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_00]: Tyxon Health and said he shows up mad all that.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_00]: He said that at what's your Kentucky a lot of their defensive staff has a lot of Saben, Nick Saben, tree influence and so that what that creates is a really complicated defensive requires a lot of study and work and preparation.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_00]: It requires you to process a lot of information quickly and he thought that because
- 18:04[SPEAKER_00]: Especially in the nine or second area, you have to do so much processing and it is complicated that Upton Stout was he's prepared for that in part because he's kind of, you know, he's been not directly under the Sabin tree in terms of coaching, but he's been under the Sabin tree in terms of coaching.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_00]: So I thought that was really interesting insight.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_00]: Marquis Siegel, you know, is Jair Brown gonna be healthiest?
- 18:27[SPEAKER_00]: Jair Brown gonna play when the starters play presumably
- 18:30[SPEAKER_00]: You know, week three, it's when they did last year of the preseason against the chargers, it's Jair Brown going to be out there.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_00]: Can he stay healthy?
- 18:37[SPEAKER_00]: You know, safety is a huge question.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_00]: If the corner in the nickel or healthy, then they're in great shape.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't, if everybody's healthy at safety, I don't know.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's a good enough.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's Jair Brown better than Marquis Siegel.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_00]: You know, safety is so complicated that he's got a couple years of experience over Marquis Siegel, a rookie at a Kansas State.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_00]: But he looked good.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think I think back to the draft video I did with the Kansas State reporter after the night as took Siegel and he thought he was he was critical.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_00]: He felt like Siegel's
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: Like running speeds, his non-game speed didn't match his game speed.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_00]: But I thought yesterday his game speed was good.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_00]: He hit people.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's funny, Ethan Strauss sent me a text today.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_00]: He was like, can you, are you able to evaluate a game after you call it the same way?
- 19:22[SPEAKER_00]: Is he when you, you know, kind of podcasting it, sitting at home watching it, taking notes.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know, we're gonna find that out.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_00]: It's a good question.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think that you see different things.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, when I'm sitting at home, I get a live view and then a replay view and then I'm taking up, you know, so it's different.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_00]: But I did feel like I saw Marky Siegel well yesterday.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_00]: I felt like I saw Nick Martin well.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_00]: You know, any talk about him beating out Dean Winner's to start is, it's probably long gone.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, seen in the game.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_00]: And again, there's a lot going on.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_00]: It's complicated, especially at linebacker.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's really complicated.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_00]: If you take, if you are processing,
- 20:01[SPEAKER_00]: Then if you're, if you're processing and it slows you down, then your speed isn't going to catch you up.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_00]: And he was a step late to a few spots.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_00]: He was in the wrong spot a couple of times, was a little off balance.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, I'm still optimistic on Nick Martin, the rookie lineback from Oklahoma State, plays really hard.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_00]: But it clearly there was a major learning curve.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_00]: I think it affected kind of, it affected him.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's to be expected.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, that just that puts more emphasis on D winners being ready to roll.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_00]: Can he take the next step?
- 20:31[SPEAKER_00]: Because that was the book on D, right?
- 20:32[SPEAKER_00]: He runs around his fast, but he's overruns a hole or he's in the wrong spot or whatever.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_00]: And so, you know, hopefully another year at development.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_00]: is a good for him.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_00]: CJ West looked really good, disappointed at the C. Michael Williams, but I know Tim Rino's working with us.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's been really impressed with him.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_00]: His prediction for the defensive line would be Michael Williams, basically starting inside of Nick Bosa, which will be great.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he passed rush to a lot from the inside in his career in college.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that'll be, I think that's promising.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just going through my list here.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_00]: Who else?
- 21:08[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, Sebastian Valdez, you know, not long arms, fifty, number fifty five thirty one and a quarter in Sharms, but he's been really, he looked really good in camp.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think somebody asked me like, what are you looking for a week one of her preseason game?
- 21:21[SPEAKER_00]: I just want to see the stuff that happened in camp.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you know, if I look good in camp, does he look good in these games?
- 21:26[SPEAKER_00]: That's the first step.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't mean he's going to go out and make a bunch of tackles or even be active on the forty six man route, but that's the first step.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_00]: It's like this is looking like he can play.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_00]: in these games.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, Sebastian Valdez looks like he can just play.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_00]: He's just a player.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, I'm still, I'm optimistic about him, optimistic about Seagull, CJ West.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: I thought showed up.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_00]: Alfred Collins, I would say, did not.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, Mr. O'Tee, you've given him a chance.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_00]: There's clearly player development there.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's six, five, three, thirty.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_00]: Big gets up.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and so there's going to be a big learning curve for him, but uh, the good news is they drafted, you know, this is why you draft three defensive linemen, I guess instead of one, and I've said this from the beginning, not knowing who, like if of those three West, Michael Williams and Alfred Con, if two of them can be impactful right away, and it feels like that's what's going to happen.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be West and Michael Williams, and that's a win.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_00]: Like that's a win.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_00]: So, um,
- 22:26[SPEAKER_00]: That's the situation they're in right now.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we want to see Michael play though.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_00]: What else?
- 22:31[SPEAKER_00]: I do think one challenge, you know, just being around him is how much youth do you need?
- 22:35[SPEAKER_00]: Is it Seagull and Williams and CJ West and Stout?
- 22:47[SPEAKER_00]: how much is, you know, do you need one at Nick, is Nick Martin going to pull, you're on the road so much to start the season.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_00]: And the record in the NFC was not good, you know, the Niners lost so many close games in the division last year, never got this dead in, let's see, most division here to go.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_00]: Most divisional losses is the forty Niners.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_00]: With a fourth quarter lead, since the two thousand eight lions, who went on sixteenth.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_00]: Niners last year went one and five in the division of those five divisional losses, four of them were by one score.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_00]: And those four losses were a total combined thirteen point differential.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_00]: So, better in the division is the name of the game.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_00]: And they're on the road, they're on the road in the division early.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_00]: I remember when I said, oh, I like the schedule, Josh, do bow of the AP came on.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_00]: I say, do you love with a young team playing at Seattle at the Rams the first two weeks of the season?
- 23:48[SPEAKER_00]: You know, or not the first two weeks, but early in the season, they go to New Orleans.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_00]: You get Arizona week two, obviously that's at home, or week three, that's at home.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_00]: But fair, that's fair.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_00]: I saw somebody said to me, somebody said, maybe somebody said me, somebody else's tweet, I don't remember.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not a great game for Clay Kubieck.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_00]: I got a shrug and toss it up.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Clay called the plays.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_00]: I thought with that first drive look great, and that's the opening script, but they had real, they had trouble protecting on that second drive.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: Nick Bonito was just on a different snap count than everybody else coming off the edge.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't think I have any grand judgment on that, on ClayCubex ability to play coal.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_00]: The other thing I would say is just, I was in Kyle's press conference the other day when somebody asked him about John Jennings.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_00]: And the question was, I don't remember who asked it, but the question was, is it more the calf or the contract, but he's not out?
- 24:44[SPEAKER_00]: Or something like that?
- 24:45[SPEAKER_00]: Like, how's the calf?
- 24:46[SPEAKER_00]: And his answer was, what you'd have to ask him?
- 24:49[SPEAKER_00]: which always feels like it's a little bit of a hint that it's that is complicated.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_00]: It sort of feels like so just based on that answer.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_00]: But but okay, I think that's it for this board.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm easing back into it trying to give you guys the stuff you're used to and hopefully some more stuff.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_00]: That's interesting and good.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, look, you got questions.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure there's stuff I didn't answer here for the people who don't care.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to bog them down with stuff you don't care about.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_00]: I can just care about football.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think to that end, I think maybe I'll do some live early in the week or at some point this week and tell me if you, or maybe James, not an ask me anything, but kind of like, you know, answer questions about whatever you may have, because I'm sure there's stuff that you can answer interested in about, you know, calling a game that, or whatever on maybe you're not interested.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, to the podcast people, thanks for not, thanks for waiting.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_00]: And to the YouTube people,
- 26:11[SPEAKER_00]: Same.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_00]: I'll talk to you all soon.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_00]: Later.
