- 1:35Speaker 1: for The Way Home Episode four, Sure, what's My Age again?
- 1:39Speaker 1: Also a song from nineteen ninety nine from Blink one
- 1:42Speaker 1: eighty two? Did you know that I did? Did you
- 1:46Speaker 1: start saying it? Really? The only thing canawine? Was What's
- 1:48Speaker 1: My Age? A game? No? No, you're friddy? Okay, So
- 1:54Speaker 1: Alice double dates with her parents as teens. Kat's first
- 1:58Speaker 1: trip to the past springs surprising discovery, and Dell swallows
- 2:02Speaker 1: her pride to ask for help. Awesome. This episode is
- 2:06Speaker 1: directed by Nimisha Mukerjie, who also directed last week's episode three. Yeah,
- 2:13Speaker 1: I'm excited to Is you hope we're gonna get her?
- 2:14Speaker 1: Episode five has not been put in IMDb as of today.
- 2:19Speaker 1: It's not revealed yet. No, no, no, okay, you're ready
- 2:24Speaker 1: to hop right in? Die right in? Sure? Yeah? Go ahead.
- 2:29Speaker 1: This episode opens with Cat underwater and screaming. We see
- 2:33Speaker 1: the ferns pull her under. I'm not really sure in
- 2:37Speaker 1: this woman who she thinks is going to hear her
- 2:38Speaker 1: if she's screaming for Alice underwater, but nevertheless the ferns
- 2:42Speaker 1: pull are under I have to tell you that anytime
- 2:44Speaker 1: there's an underwater scene where someone's like getting caught, I
- 2:47Speaker 1: get a little panicky, short of breath. Yeah, that's one
- 2:51Speaker 1: of my most terrifying ways to die. Oh okay, Cat surfaces,
- 2:58Speaker 1: We hear a dog in the distance, we hear ukulele playing,
- 3:02Speaker 1: and Cat walks wet out of the woods and sees Alice.
- 3:06Speaker 1: She's relieved, and then she sees herself that Alice is
- 3:10Speaker 1: playing guitar, and young Cat joins and singing. They're strumming
- 3:15Speaker 1: along to Lfo's nineteen ninety nine hits Summer Girls, which
- 3:21Speaker 1: is real cute, actually very cute. Adult Cat is watching
- 3:26Speaker 1: from afar, slightly freaking out, not really quite sure what
- 3:29Speaker 1: she's seen. She knows it's her, but like, do you
- 3:34Speaker 1: think at this moment, like she's really realized that she's
- 3:36Speaker 1: back in nineteen ninety nine. You know, Cat's kind of
- 3:39Speaker 1: freaking out about all of this. And while I know
- 3:41Speaker 1: this is a show about time travel and therefore I
- 3:43Speaker 1: have to suspend disbelief, I also really felt for the
- 3:47Speaker 1: feeling Cat must have been having in this moment, being
- 3:51Speaker 1: confronted with all of this, realizing what she's seeing. I'm
- 3:55Speaker 1: not sure if in this moment she's fully processed what's
- 3:59Speaker 1: going on right right. Also, I'm wondering she's standing there
- 4:04Speaker 1: in wet jeans and boots, and that has to be miserable,
- 4:07Speaker 1: don't you th inxeed the worst. I'd rather be standing
- 4:11Speaker 1: there in my underwear than in wet jeans and boots,
- 4:13Speaker 1: I agree. Alice and Kat are talking about Nick and Brady.
- 4:19Speaker 1: They're talking about the boys and young Cat mentions that
- 4:23Speaker 1: Brady's going to be coming to town to visit. This
- 4:27Speaker 1: is a really cute scene between Alice and Cat. They're
- 4:29Speaker 1: super playful. They're just having fun, jerking around, playing jokes
- 4:35Speaker 1: on each other. It was actually really nice, like it
- 4:40Speaker 1: took me back to a time where, well, we didn't
- 4:43Speaker 1: have cell phones in our hands and you're just hanging
- 4:45Speaker 1: out with your friends, talking and having fun. I just
- 4:49Speaker 1: thought it was a really sweet moment. Also, we learn
- 4:54Speaker 1: in this scene that kat Is really wants to introduce
- 4:58Speaker 1: Alice to Brady. Yes, and at this moment, Alice is
- 5:02Speaker 1: excited about that, Yes exactly. What's interesting to me about
- 5:05Speaker 1: the scene is that Kat clearly remembers a conversation that
- 5:07Speaker 1: she had with Dell because she holds the words along
- 5:11Speaker 1: with young Cat, and I wonder if that's the moment
- 5:15Speaker 1: where she's realizing what in the world is happening. Alice
- 5:19Speaker 1: says she needs to leave, but she'll try to be
- 5:21Speaker 1: here when Brady gets here. And yet again I ask myself,
- 5:24Speaker 1: does Kat know where Alice is going? Or does she
- 5:27Speaker 1: not wonder? And is it not weird to Kat that
- 5:30Speaker 1: she only has access to Alice when Alice appears in
- 5:33Speaker 1: her field? Yeah, Like there's no phone number, Like we
- 5:36Speaker 1: all we know that Kat talks on the phone, right,
- 5:40Speaker 1: she doesn't have Alice's phone number. She can't. Like she's
- 5:43Speaker 1: never been to her house. Alice clearly lives within walking distance,
- 5:48Speaker 1: and she's never wondered where it is. Mm hmm. Yeah,
- 5:51Speaker 1: this is again we have to suspend disbelief. Yes, so
- 5:57Speaker 1: Kat watches Alice dive back into the pond with e
- 6:00Speaker 1: This is the thing that Alice has done regularly now.
- 6:02Speaker 1: And one thing I notice is Kat appears to be
- 6:04Speaker 1: dry at this point. I'm sitting in that field for
- 6:06Speaker 1: a while. But before Kat follows Alice back to the
- 6:09Speaker 1: present day, we hear giggling, and Kat follows the sound.
- 6:13Speaker 1: She sees a boy running through the woods, and Cat
- 6:16Speaker 1: comes upon her childhood home. She sees the boat and
- 6:20Speaker 1: the house and the gut punch of Jacob and Colton.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Right she's she's watching from afar and here a scene
- 6:30Speaker 1: that literally brought me to tears is she's watching Colton
- 6:35Speaker 1: and Jacob tossing the ball around in the front yard,
- 6:38Speaker 1: and once she realizes what she's seen, she drops to
- 6:41Speaker 1: her knees and is just so distraught. And I'm like,
- 6:46Speaker 1: this was such a good scene. Yes, Kyler, Lee strings
- 6:51Speaker 1: it in this moment totally, totally, it was so good.
- 6:56Speaker 1: You know. There's she's like clapped both hands over her mouth,
- 6:59Speaker 1: like she's just like trying to keep the emotion inside
- 7:02Speaker 1: her body, both because she doesn't want to be found out,
- 7:05Speaker 1: but also her brother and her father are gone and
- 7:08Speaker 1: now here they are in front of her, and really good.
- 7:11Speaker 1: We get our opening title card and we jump back
- 7:14Speaker 1: to present day. Dell's in a field with the cow,
- 7:16Speaker 1: and this is the sweetest we've ever seen del being
- 7:19Speaker 1: with this with this cow, ole miss and we find
- 7:23Speaker 1: out that she is due to be calving any day now.
- 7:26Speaker 1: And I feel like there's a lot of foreshadowing moments
- 7:29Speaker 1: in this episode, because look, you don't tell us that
- 7:32Speaker 1: a cow is about to have a calf if that's
- 7:33Speaker 1: not going to be a pivotal moment in this episode. Hmm. Interesting.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Right after that, Elliott and Alice are cleaning the boat
- 7:42Speaker 1: and they're talking, and Alice bags on Elliot quite a
- 7:46Speaker 1: bit if a weird definition of what school. Yeah, they
- 7:51Speaker 1: have a weird kind of friendship, don't you think so? Yes,
- 7:55Speaker 1: their dynamic is not student teacher, right, it's all m's
- 8:00Speaker 1: not even like a teenager adult, right, It's like they're
- 8:05Speaker 1: two teenagers talking to each other. Alice asks Elliott about
- 8:10Speaker 1: Brady as a teen and Elliott seems kind of reluctant
- 8:14Speaker 1: to tell Alice anything about Brady. He doesn't want to
- 8:17Speaker 1: like tell her what she's going to find in the past. Basically, yeah,
- 8:21Speaker 1: he doesn't want a frontloader with that information. And we'll
- 8:24Speaker 1: find out later why not. But really quickly, you said
- 8:27Speaker 1: that they have a relationship that's not like adult teenager,
- 8:31Speaker 1: and they know each other as much as peers as
- 8:36Speaker 1: they do as adult child. So that's a really interesting
- 8:39Speaker 1: dynamic that they have going m Hm. Right. Della rives
- 8:42Speaker 1: and she's surprised at they're cleaning, and we get the
- 8:45Speaker 1: first mention of clean up this mess. We find out
- 8:49Speaker 1: that the house is a mess. Everything's a mess, Alice
- 8:52Speaker 1: is a mess. This will carry through. She's frustrated with it. Yeah,
- 8:57Speaker 1: she's complaining to Elliot about the lack of help from
- 8:59Speaker 1: Cat and Alice around the house. Yeah. She to herself says,
- 9:03Speaker 1: you're happy they're here in spite of the mess they make.
- 9:06Speaker 1: And she says, you know, Elliet, you could come to dinner,
- 9:08Speaker 1: but the kitchen is a mess, and besides, Cat won't
- 9:10Speaker 1: be here. Dell knows what's up with Elliott's feelings about Cat,
- 9:14Speaker 1: and her advice to him is to play the long game,
- 9:17Speaker 1: which is really interesting line, isn't it. Hmm? What does
- 9:23Speaker 1: Dell know about the future. That's a good that's a
- 9:25Speaker 1: very good point that I did not consider. And also,
- 9:27Speaker 1: Elliott has been in love with Cat since he was
- 9:29Speaker 1: fifteen years old, so I would say he has played
- 9:32Speaker 1: a very long game at this point exactly. But it
- 9:35Speaker 1: just raised my piqued my interest here because I was
- 9:39Speaker 1: like that, what is she what does she mean by that?
- 9:43Speaker 1: Does she know something? He doesn't. We're back to nineteen
- 9:47Speaker 1: ninety nine adult Cat this year. Let me just stop
- 9:51Speaker 1: for a second. My notes are crazy, They're like ninety nine,
- 9:54Speaker 1: and I have to now write adult cat. This is
- 9:57Speaker 1: not just teenage cat in nineteen ninety nine. Anyway. She
- 10:01Speaker 1: is watching the Landry Farm from afar. She's she's seen
- 10:05Speaker 1: the family being happy and they're having dinner and you know,
- 10:10Speaker 1: kind of seeing all those things that Alice had experienced
- 10:14Speaker 1: in the last couple visits as well. It's like, what
- 10:16Speaker 1: happened to that family? Like that was a happy family. Yeah,
- 10:20Speaker 1: Jacob has his polaroid and family is as loving and
- 10:24Speaker 1: lovely as ever. And we cut back to present day.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Dell isn't it outrageously messy kitchen? And she's talking to
- 10:30Speaker 1: Alice and tells her, look, tomorrow's gonna be busy. That
- 10:33Speaker 1: we've got a cow. I'm not gonna be around because
- 10:36Speaker 1: there's a lobster social and Alice says, is that like
- 10:39Speaker 1: Coachella for crafts? Is that funny? Actually? I thought that
- 10:44Speaker 1: was a really funny line until I heard Dell come
- 10:47Speaker 1: back later on and says, we might just take you
- 10:50Speaker 1: to Burning Man later, and I might take you to
- 10:54Speaker 1: Burning Man and Rita at Burning Man would be a
- 10:56Speaker 1: sight to behold. It was just so funny close Allison
- 11:01Speaker 1: that her grandma is not an idiot, you know what
- 11:04Speaker 1: I mean? She is with it here. Yeah, yeah, that
- 11:08Speaker 1: was really funny. And side note, a lobster social sounds amazing.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Know you're in a heartbeat, right. You know how I
- 11:17Speaker 1: talk about when we review our Hallmark movies during Christmas tire,
- 11:20Speaker 1: how I want to go to a Christmas market, yes,
- 11:23Speaker 1: or some sort of fall festival. Well, a lobster social
- 11:27Speaker 1: sounds just as amazing. Give me all the lobster and lemonade.
- 11:30Speaker 1: I would be there. I would be running it. I
- 11:31Speaker 1: love it. Yes. We cut back to nineteen eighty nine
- 11:34Speaker 1: and dinner is still happening and Kat starts to back away,
- 11:38Speaker 1: but she knocks something over and Colton hears her. I
- 11:41Speaker 1: was wondering how Colton would react, but he reacts very kindly,
- 11:44Speaker 1: asks if she's okay? Does she need any help? And
- 11:47Speaker 1: Kat says she shouldn't be here, and she runs away
- 11:50Speaker 1: in tears. And I have to wonder, does this family
- 11:52Speaker 1: wonder about the people who keep appearing at their home? Right? Interesting?
- 11:58Speaker 1: I was gonna say he was so kind, ma'am. Do
- 12:00Speaker 1: you need anything, ma'am? Can I help you? I was like,
- 12:04Speaker 1: oh God, you're wonderful. Back in present day, Kat arrives home.
- 12:09Speaker 1: She's wet, she's crying, she's reminiscing about what she's she's
- 12:13Speaker 1: just witnessed and is that it is that all that happens? Yeah,
- 12:18Speaker 1: and then we cut to the next morning. Alice says
- 12:21Speaker 1: she's off to meet friends, and Alice asks Dell if
- 12:23Speaker 1: she's seen her mom, and Dell points to Cat in
- 12:26Speaker 1: a field, and this is the scene we saw in
- 12:28Speaker 1: the preview of this episode of Kat looking at the
- 12:31Speaker 1: polaroid in the field, trying to make sense of what
- 12:33Speaker 1: has happened to her in the past several hours. I
- 12:36Speaker 1: was really curious how Kat was going to play this
- 12:39Speaker 1: with Alice. And Alice approaches Kat, and Kat, I think,
- 12:42Speaker 1: is realizing what Alice has been going through for the
- 12:46Speaker 1: past couple of weeks, and she says, I love you
- 12:49Speaker 1: and let's spend the day together. May tell me. Dell
- 12:55Speaker 1: wants Kat get going. You gotta where, You've got a
- 12:57Speaker 1: job to do, You've got an interview to do, and
- 13:00Speaker 1: Kat kind of wants to blow that off and spend
- 13:02Speaker 1: the day with Alice. I think totally warranted. Right, you
- 13:07Speaker 1: find out that your daughter has been visiting you in
- 13:09Speaker 1: the past. I want to connect and see what's going on. Yeah, exactly,
- 13:15Speaker 1: I said. Next, we're at the Lobster Social, Monica and
- 13:18Speaker 1: Kat are talking. Kat puts off her interview that she
- 13:23Speaker 1: has to do with Monica, but she wants to spend
- 13:25Speaker 1: time with Alice, and it's just they're talking here a lot.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Alice alludes to having friends because their conversation is, like,
- 13:34Speaker 1: you know, is Alice doing well in Port Haven? Does
- 13:39Speaker 1: she have friends? And Alice is like, yeah, I have
- 13:42Speaker 1: a really good friend. And I'm gonna have to guess
- 13:44Speaker 1: that she's talking about young Cat, right, I assume so
- 13:47Speaker 1: also right, So Elliott approaches and Kat's just rambling on
- 13:52Speaker 1: about like the night that she has, and Alice goes
- 13:55Speaker 1: off to get lemonade, but she bounces, I'm like, the
- 13:59Speaker 1: kid just leaves. Yeah, I'm just gonna run back to
- 14:03Speaker 1: ninety nine. I'll be back in a soccer So your
- 14:05Speaker 1: question about is Alice talking about young Cat? Alice says
- 14:09Speaker 1: she doesn't know how much time she has with this friend,
- 14:11Speaker 1: which I think is a good clue. That's who she's
- 14:13Speaker 1: talking about. Yes, And this is the point at which
- 14:15Speaker 1: Elliott joins them at lobster Fest. I know it's the
- 14:19Speaker 1: lobster social and Kat kind of vague books about what's
- 14:22Speaker 1: happening to her has happened to her. She at this
- 14:24Speaker 1: point doesn't know that Elliott knows, and she's so excited
- 14:29Speaker 1: about her connection with Alice. And as you said, she
- 14:30Speaker 1: runs around and Alice has bounced a by best friend.
- 14:34Speaker 1: We see Alice running off, but she sees Spencer in
- 14:36Speaker 1: the park. They stop and talk and Alice apologizes for
- 14:40Speaker 1: flaking on his birthday, and they talk a little bit
- 14:43Speaker 1: about like where they come from or what they're into,
- 14:47Speaker 1: basically what Alice is into, like what kind of life
- 14:50Speaker 1: she had before she came to Port Haven. And again
- 14:54Speaker 1: I ask, where's Zoe? Good question, where's friend Zoe? This
- 15:00Speaker 1: is interesting because Spencer says port Haven must have seemed
- 15:02Speaker 1: lame compared to Minneapolis and the mall of America, which
- 15:05Speaker 1: I think is hilarious that that's their like, you know, ooh,
- 15:08Speaker 1: big city. That's gonna be a dig though, don't you
- 15:12Speaker 1: think so? I actually don't think so. But it's interesting
- 15:16Speaker 1: compared to what we find out later about other characters
- 15:21Speaker 1: that Spencer is worried about port Haven not seeming cool
- 15:24Speaker 1: in the eyes of like a big city girl, and
- 15:27Speaker 1: Alice is not bothered by that. She likes it in
- 15:30Speaker 1: port Haven. Right. Well, we see later about Brady mm hmm, okay,
- 15:38Speaker 1: dell is setting up her tables at the Lobster Social.
- 15:43Speaker 1: What is she setting these tables up for anyway, that's
- 15:45Speaker 1: a great question. There's a lot of talk about the
- 15:47Speaker 1: tables and set up. I never see her actually doing
- 15:49Speaker 1: anything there, I know exactly. And then so Elliott comes
- 15:52Speaker 1: up and he asks the help and Dale snaps at him.
- 15:56Speaker 1: I'm like, look, lady, he is like the only one
- 15:59Speaker 1: helping you out, Like stop trying to do everything on
- 16:03Speaker 1: your own. And then we have the return of Rita,
- 16:06Speaker 1: who is I guess she's like collecting lobster shells from
- 16:11Speaker 1: the people who are eating them. But I don't think
- 16:15Speaker 1: they're finished lobster shells because one of the lobster she
- 16:19Speaker 1: takes from a woman who's like walking to a table,
- 16:21Speaker 1: She's like, they're not going to eat it? What? I Yeah,
- 16:25Speaker 1: this was weird to me. But at the end there
- 16:27Speaker 1: she says she's gonna eat her bists, which I don't
- 16:31Speaker 1: I've never made lobster biss before. But I assuming you
- 16:34Speaker 1: use like the carcass to but I don't know. I
- 16:38Speaker 1: have no lover carcass carky, do you need to make
- 16:42Speaker 1: lobster back? I don't know. This scene was totally lost
- 16:46Speaker 1: on me. Yes, but we do find out that Dell
- 16:49Speaker 1: and rita kind of make up. They make nice and
- 16:52Speaker 1: Dell tails her to knock it off. But we do
- 16:54Speaker 1: find out that Dell decided that she is not going
- 16:56Speaker 1: to sell the boat so and gives her it. Gives
- 16:59Speaker 1: her a nice dig about like, oh, I guess you
- 17:01Speaker 1: can't take your cut from it? Yeah, no commission from
- 17:04Speaker 1: that one. So I'm wondering if these two have been
- 17:06Speaker 1: friends for a long time, and you know, when you
- 17:08Speaker 1: have a long time friendship and you like ebbs and flows,
- 17:12Speaker 1: you know what I mean? They blow to make it? Yeah, yep, exactly.
- 17:16Speaker 1: We cut to Cat interviewing Monica about the reason behind
- 17:19Speaker 1: the season. She talks about why they have the Lobster
- 17:22Speaker 1: Social to showcase the local cuisine outside of the tourist season.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Monica gets a text from Spencer. He wants to get
- 17:29Speaker 1: out of his Lobster social shift to hang out with
- 17:32Speaker 1: his friends, and turns out that friend group includes Alice,
- 17:36Speaker 1: and Monica asks if Kat knows where Alice went, and
- 17:39Speaker 1: Cat sure does know where Alice went the other night,
- 17:41Speaker 1: but Monica says, Spencer and his friends will be will
- 17:44Speaker 1: be a good influence on her. Right. Next time we
- 17:47Speaker 1: see Kat thrown back drinks. She runs into doctor Andy
- 17:52Speaker 1: and they flirt and they talk and she ribs him
- 17:54Speaker 1: for not calling her, but he explains, you know that
- 17:58Speaker 1: it's a busy season for him, and she like rambles on.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Like in this episode, Kat rambles on quite a bit
- 18:10Speaker 1: this with everybody, and then all of a sudden they kiss. Yes,
- 18:13Speaker 1: now I wanted to say about this. He says it's
- 18:16Speaker 1: birthing season, and she goes, that's a funny thing to
- 18:18Speaker 1: call it. You don't follow up on that, you don't, Well,
- 18:21Speaker 1: this again is another foreshatting woman. I knew in that
- 18:23Speaker 1: moment that he was a veterinarian was going to be
- 18:25Speaker 1: helping with this cow. I knew exactly what was happening.
- 18:28Speaker 1: But you know, he says birthing season, and you don't.
- 18:31Speaker 1: There's not a follow up question. Well, homegirl grew up
- 18:34Speaker 1: on a farm. She wouldn't know what that meant. Yeah, right,
- 18:38Speaker 1: they had cows. We find out later exactly. I mean,
- 18:42Speaker 1: that's just really for the audience, I think at this point. Yes, yes,
- 18:47Speaker 1: and prior to the kiss, I mean, oh, never mind,
- 18:50Speaker 1: they kiss, Kat freaks out full word vomit from her,
- 18:53Speaker 1: you know what I mean, And she's like, all right, now,
- 18:55Speaker 1: I'm good, and then they make out again, make out,
- 18:58Speaker 1: they kiss again, They have an eye waterfront moment. We
- 19:02Speaker 1: cut to the next day. Dell is on the porch
- 19:05Speaker 1: the next morning and she calls Kat the makeout Queen
- 19:07Speaker 1: of the Lobster social and Cat hope she doesn't run
- 19:10Speaker 1: into doctor Andy again, which what why, You're done? You're good,
- 19:15Speaker 1: that's all you needed. No, no, No, She's embarrassed because
- 19:17Speaker 1: she had lots to drink and then she like made
- 19:19Speaker 1: out with this dude before they even actually went on
- 19:22Speaker 1: a proper date. You know what I mean. I mean,
- 19:24Speaker 1: you're an adult woman. Un let's just yes, live your life, right,
- 19:28Speaker 1: But there's still some sort of like embarrassment about it,
- 19:31Speaker 1: I guess, right. Well, and not technically divorced yet either. Yes,
- 19:35Speaker 1: but her ex husband has woman, you know. Delle says
- 19:40Speaker 1: it's going to be hard to avoid him in a
- 19:42Speaker 1: small town. But Dell does not tell Kat what she
- 19:44Speaker 1: knows about doctor Andy at this moment, and she just
- 19:47Speaker 1: asked Kat to go pick up those tables that we
- 19:48Speaker 1: have no idea what they were used for from the points. Next,
- 19:52Speaker 1: we see Brady and Alice are on the phone together
- 19:55Speaker 1: and Brady's still in his office in Minneapolis. That's right,
- 19:59Speaker 1: I have Brady in his office where he apparently lives.
- 20:02Speaker 1: He encourages Alice to go easy on Cat because you know,
- 20:06Speaker 1: Alice doesn't understand why adult Cat is so different from
- 20:10Speaker 1: Young Cat basically right, and she starts asking a bunch
- 20:14Speaker 1: of questions about Brady, like what were you like as
- 20:16Speaker 1: a teenager? What was it like here when you visited?
- 20:19Speaker 1: And we hear Brady say, you know, I am What
- 20:23Speaker 1: did he say, like, I'm I'm a lot like I
- 20:25Speaker 1: am now? Yeah, he says I was the same, and
- 20:27Speaker 1: Alice says, well, mom has totally changed, right exactly, And
- 20:31Speaker 1: we cut to Dell and Cat talking about Young Cat's
- 20:36Speaker 1: friend Alice from nineteen ninety nine and adult Cat asking
- 20:39Speaker 1: if Della remembers her, and Dell does not have a
- 20:41Speaker 1: memory of her. She says she had more going on
- 20:43Speaker 1: in that time period that's taken up her brain space,
- 20:46Speaker 1: and she does not remember this daughter. This was a
- 20:50Speaker 1: weird scene to me because it kind of comes out
- 20:53Speaker 1: of nowhere, right, there's no like lead up to it
- 20:57Speaker 1: or anything like that. It's just like they're walking and
- 21:00Speaker 1: they're talking about this Alice from nineteen ninety nine is
- 21:04Speaker 1: I just thought it was an odd scene here. I
- 21:08Speaker 1: also think, given how significant Alice is in Cat's life
- 21:12Speaker 1: at this time, it's surprising to me that Dell has
- 21:15Speaker 1: no memory of her. Yeah, but you know, like Dell
- 21:20Speaker 1: also goes through like and she mentioned she goes through
- 21:22Speaker 1: a lot of trauma during that time, and you need to
- 21:24Speaker 1: just like blackout, like, you know, block out all these
- 21:28Speaker 1: significant pieces of time and your memory for survival, you know.
- 21:33Speaker 1: And we do have earlier conversations in this show about memories,
- 21:37Speaker 1: you know, not being exact snapshots of the way life
- 21:40Speaker 1: was at the time. So, yeah, Adele and Kat walk
- 21:43Speaker 1: into the barn with the cow and shocker. Doctor Andy
- 21:46Speaker 1: is there and Kat says, you're a bed. I thought
- 21:48Speaker 1: you were a real doctor, And that's a super awkward moment.
- 21:51Speaker 1: But one thing I noticed in the summit is Andy's
- 21:53Speaker 1: cell phone ring is a cow bell. Oh I didn't
- 21:56Speaker 1: notice that. And Dell clearly enjoys this interaction, and she
- 22:00Speaker 1: enjoys Kat running into doctor Andy the morning after their
- 22:03Speaker 1: waterfront drunken makeout. She enjoys the fact that Kat kind
- 22:06Speaker 1: of made a fool of herself not realizing that Andy
- 22:09Speaker 1: was a veterinarian. She just enjoys all of it, and
- 22:11Speaker 1: Kat abeils it's so funny, because Kat says to her, like,
- 22:16Speaker 1: you enjoyed that, and Andy mcdala, it made me laugh
- 22:20Speaker 1: out last She was like, I didn't hate it, and
- 22:23Speaker 1: it just it was so funny. It was so funny.
- 22:27Speaker 1: We cut back to nineteen eighty nine and Kat runs
- 22:29Speaker 1: into Elliott in the barn and asks if Brady's here yet,
- 22:33Speaker 1: and she drops the bomb on the poor Elliott that
- 22:36Speaker 1: Brady's her dad. And you just watch Elliott processing this
- 22:39Speaker 1: information in real time that his chances with Kat have
- 22:43Speaker 1: basically been blown out of the water. Mm hm. He says, yeah,
- 22:47Speaker 1: I have met Brady and he's back at the hotel
- 22:49Speaker 1: getting ready for his date, and Alice wants to spile
- 22:52Speaker 1: their date and Elliott does not want to do that. Duh.
- 22:55Speaker 1: The fact that Alice has not picked up on Elliott's
- 22:57Speaker 1: feelings for Kat. She's just so in her own head.
- 22:59Speaker 1: She's so like a self absorbed fifteen year old in
- 23:02Speaker 1: this moment, she cannot think beyond her own experience here.
- 23:07Speaker 1: And then on our way out the door, she throws
- 23:08Speaker 1: a bag and clothes Adelia and Yell's laundry day. Yeah,
- 23:11Speaker 1: her clothes did look better in this episode. I really
- 23:15Speaker 1: Elliot's picking better stuff up. Yeah, we're still getting these
- 23:17Speaker 1: clothes for us for her, you know. So we cut
- 23:22Speaker 1: to Kat and Alice in Kat's bedroom and they're talking
- 23:27Speaker 1: about Brady and Kat wants them to double day and
- 23:31Speaker 1: Alice is freaking out because she does not want Kat
- 23:34Speaker 1: to call Nick and you know, typical fifteen year old
- 23:37Speaker 1: teenage girls stuff. I think. And in the background playing
- 23:42Speaker 1: is a song by David Gray called This Year's Love,
- 23:46Speaker 1: which came out in nineteen ninety nine. I love this song,
- 23:49Speaker 1: we do love. It evokes weird feelings for me. I
- 23:53Speaker 1: don't know what it is, but it's a great song.
- 23:57Speaker 1: I'm like, whoever is doing this on track composing the
- 24:01Speaker 1: music for the not composing the music, selecting the music
- 24:04Speaker 1: for this show, curating so good I agree, so good.
- 24:10Speaker 1: We jump back to present day. Dell is unloading the
- 24:12Speaker 1: tables from the back of the truck and we hear
- 24:16Speaker 1: well miss mooing, and Dell finds her I have written
- 24:20Speaker 1: in distress question mark. I don't know what cow labor
- 24:23Speaker 1: looks like. But she calls doctor Stafford and she gets
- 24:26Speaker 1: his voicemail and Dell's freaked out, and we cut back
- 24:30Speaker 1: to nineteen eighty nine. Yeah, they're at the point, which
- 24:33Speaker 1: is really kind of funny. This is the first time
- 24:35Speaker 1: I've ever seen the point back in nineteen ninety nine,
- 24:37Speaker 1: where's the interior is different. They're there, they meet Nick
- 24:41Speaker 1: and they make an Aerosmith reference, which is really funny
- 24:46Speaker 1: because last episode we hadn't the name of the episode
- 24:50Speaker 1: was after an Aerosmith song. Yeah, and the references as
- 24:56Speaker 1: in last episode are not lining up with the title
- 24:59Speaker 1: of the episode. There in right Good. Brady walks in
- 25:03Speaker 1: and Cat introduces Nick and Alice, and Alice's first impression
- 25:08Speaker 1: of Brady is that he kind of sucks. Yeah, Young
- 25:12Speaker 1: Brady's kind of a jerk. Yeah, totally, and Alice is
- 25:15Speaker 1: real disappointed, and we see adult Cat watching through the windows.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Great at it to me, I was like, honestly, I
- 25:23Speaker 1: should have expected it, but I was caught by surprise
- 25:25Speaker 1: in that moment when they pull back and you see
- 25:27Speaker 1: her standing there. Oh really, I mean I like that
- 25:32Speaker 1: she's seen it unfold because you know, Alice is not
- 25:36Speaker 1: gonna return and can't I mean, they're not going to
- 25:39Speaker 1: talk about it when Alice returns from ninety nine, So like,
- 25:43Speaker 1: Cat's got to see it for ourselves, right. We cut
- 25:45Speaker 1: back to present day. Adella is continuing to freak out
- 25:47Speaker 1: in the bar and she's calling Cat and Elliott comes
- 25:50Speaker 1: rushing into the barn, and of course, adding to the drama,
- 25:53Speaker 1: it is a thunderstorm outside. Yeah, we're back in nineteen
- 25:57Speaker 1: ninety nine at the point and the server there is
- 26:00Speaker 1: ordering drinks. They order two diet cokes, one Virgin cola
- 26:05Speaker 1: and a house white. Now, okay, I have so much
- 26:08Speaker 1: commentary here. First of all, it's two diet cokes, fine
- 26:11Speaker 1: virgin cola. Was I was like, was there actually a
- 26:15Speaker 1: virgin brand cola at the time? That's what I was
- 26:18Speaker 1: looking at. Yesh, It had launched in nineteen ninety four,
- 26:21Speaker 1: Virgin Cola by Richard Branson. Yes, I don't really remember
- 26:26Speaker 1: this drink being on the market. Was it in Canada?
- 26:31Speaker 1: Maybe you know the drinks market is so oversaturated. I
- 26:35Speaker 1: think it would be easy to miss a drink launch
- 26:38Speaker 1: pre social media. Right. Yeah, it was in the market
- 26:42Speaker 1: for fourteen years. It was discontinued in two thousand and nine.
- 26:47Speaker 1: That's brand new information. I don't think I ever had
- 26:50Speaker 1: a Virgin Cola ever. I wonder if to serve that
- 26:53Speaker 1: on his branded flights to Virgin Those were nice airplanes.
- 26:58Speaker 1: They were nice airplanes. And then what teenager orders a
- 27:03Speaker 1: white wine? I wonder, dude, you are fifteen years old.
- 27:08Speaker 1: You think you're gonna get away with this a house white?
- 27:11Speaker 1: What a jackass? Oh? So I order wine beer? This
- 27:15Speaker 1: is there's so much happening here. So yes, the waiter
- 27:18Speaker 1: shoots him down, recommends a Shirley Temple, which I just love,
- 27:22Speaker 1: like put him in his place, right, Brady orders a
- 27:25Speaker 1: coke and he goes I always get away with this,
- 27:27Speaker 1: but I should have known better than to expect the
- 27:28Speaker 1: same in the sticks. And I hate Young Brady so
- 27:31Speaker 1: much right now, me too, totally. And Alice Rappid fires
- 27:34Speaker 1: questions at Young Brady and this man this scene, solidifying
- 27:38Speaker 1: him as the like he's gonna have to work hard
- 27:41Speaker 1: to get out of this place in my brain. Oh,
- 27:43Speaker 1: my parents didn't want me to go to Main Prep.
- 27:45Speaker 1: They wanted me to go to Harvard Westlake. But Callie.
- 27:49Speaker 1: Nobody said Cali, Nobody except people who didn't live here. Yeah,
- 27:54Speaker 1: is so pretentious, so fake, and he wants to stay grounded,
- 27:57Speaker 1: clearly ordering a house white in a diner as a
- 28:00Speaker 1: fifteen year old. But here he is. He's got a
- 28:04Speaker 1: bulletproof five year plan. And what's Brady's plan? It's nepotism, Yeah, nepo, baby,
- 28:11Speaker 1: and Nicko's neb a five year plan. And let me
- 28:14Speaker 1: just tell you right now, I love Nick so much.
- 28:18Speaker 1: There's so many great moments coming. Where's future Nick at bratty?
- 28:23Speaker 1: So do shee? I just cannot stand him at all?
- 28:27Speaker 1: And we see adult cat watching through the window smile memory,
- 28:31Speaker 1: like how great this date was. That's what's so interesting
- 28:36Speaker 1: in these moments is that she doesn't see what Alice
- 28:39Speaker 1: is seeing. She just sees the young love she was
- 28:42Speaker 1: experiencing right exactly. But you know, obviously she can't hear
- 28:46Speaker 1: what's being said from outside. Yes, so maybe as an
- 28:50Speaker 1: adult she would hear that, be like what, But you know,
- 28:54Speaker 1: it's all good memories for her. We cut back to
- 28:56Speaker 1: present day and Elliott is attempting to birth a cast
- 29:00Speaker 1: who is breach and it is not going well. Yeah,
- 29:04Speaker 1: I wrote cowbirthing problems. The scene is too too graphic
- 29:09Speaker 1: for me. I just can't can't with this scene. This
- 29:13Speaker 1: is a girl who grew up in the southern California
- 29:15Speaker 1: suburbs has no idea about birthing cows. Yeah, we're back
- 29:19Speaker 1: in nineteen ninety nine and they're headed to the movie
- 29:22Speaker 1: theater and you see on the marque it's the blair
- 29:25Speaker 1: Witch Project. You know what's funny is I did not
- 29:28Speaker 1: see the marquee because I was rapid firing taking notes
- 29:31Speaker 1: and there's a couple hints at what movie it's gonna be,
- 29:35Speaker 1: and I wrote down, like, are they suggesting it's gonna
- 29:38Speaker 1: be the blair Witch Project, which apparently was. It was.
- 29:41Speaker 1: It's not the reach that I thought it was. Okay,
- 29:44Speaker 1: I grow to myself when Elliott says like, oh, it's
- 29:46Speaker 1: hand held, I'm like, oh, it must be the blair
- 29:48Speaker 1: Witch Project. Anyway, side note, we did see that movie
- 29:51Speaker 1: in the movie theater and I did get sick, So
- 29:54Speaker 1: I get very nauseous by like watching stuff like that.
- 29:57Speaker 1: I've never seen that movie. No, it's terrible. It's a
- 30:00Speaker 1: terrible movie. So we meet Nick's moms, which I wrote
- 30:05Speaker 1: down is pretty progressive for nineteen ninety nine. No, well, okay,
- 30:10Speaker 1: the question is is it progressive for Nick to have
- 30:12Speaker 1: two moms in nineteen ninety nine, because this is not
- 30:14Speaker 1: a show being created at nineteen ninety nine, right, So
- 30:17Speaker 1: I think if this the question is is it progressive
- 30:21Speaker 1: for him to have had two moms in nineteen ninety nine. No,
- 30:24Speaker 1: the answer is no, And this show is being created
- 30:26Speaker 1: in twenty twenty three, So I just think it's a
- 30:28Speaker 1: nice little bit of representation. Yes, And Alice is clearly
- 30:35Speaker 1: not in the Cat and Brady, she's so over them.
- 30:37Speaker 1: And Nick's just the coolest dude. He's like, do you
- 30:39Speaker 1: want to bail? I'll go with you or you can
- 30:41Speaker 1: go alone, But more fun to run away to catherm hm.
- 30:45Speaker 1: And what's funny in this scene is they all head
- 30:47Speaker 1: into the movie theater. We see Catch just like merge
- 30:49Speaker 1: right into the crowd. Yet Alice is not going to
- 30:53Speaker 1: see her. She doesn't have a ticket, right, I don't know.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Sneak on in right. So they are purchasing snacks at
- 31:02Speaker 1: the counter and Elliott's you know, selling popcorn or whatever,
- 31:06Speaker 1: and Brady tries to use his mom's credit card and
- 31:08Speaker 1: Elliott denies him. Nick comes in and saves the day
- 31:12Speaker 1: and says, you know, my mom's owned the theater, so
- 31:15Speaker 1: you know, just it's on the house, which is all good.
- 31:18Speaker 1: But then like Brady turns around and bags on Elliott.
- 31:22Speaker 1: I'm like this guy, Ugh, what a piece? The worst?
- 31:27Speaker 1: And you see Nick the worst and Nick consoles Elliott,
- 31:30Speaker 1: and I was like, what nice. Okay, that's a good friendship.
- 31:33Speaker 1: So where is Nick? That's a great question. And I'm
- 31:36Speaker 1: so spun out about this Nick situation because obviously Alice
- 31:40Speaker 1: and Nick cannot be together in present day, so this
- 31:44Speaker 1: is a real kind of like high low moment for me.
- 31:47Speaker 1: But when he checks in, you cool dude with Elliott
- 31:50Speaker 1: and thanks him for covering his ship. I also, I
- 31:53Speaker 1: just want to say that if one of my kids
- 31:55Speaker 1: wanted to date a dude like Nick, I'm all for it.
- 31:57Speaker 1: So far, right, so far, so far. We're back to
- 32:01Speaker 1: scary caff birthing scene. Del needs help, Elliott has to
- 32:05Speaker 1: region and grab a hoof and once again things are
- 32:08Speaker 1: still not going well. Yeah, I wrote this scene is
- 32:12Speaker 1: too long and too graphic, Like I just I'm like,
- 32:15Speaker 1: what is the point here? What is I mean? We
- 32:18Speaker 1: get to it eventually, but maybe too too much, too
- 32:23Speaker 1: much for me, too much for me? Okay say that.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Back to nineteen ninety nine, Kat is watching Young Cat
- 32:28Speaker 1: and Brady kiss at the movie theater and Alice goes
- 32:33Speaker 1: and talks to Elliott out in the lobby and she
- 32:36Speaker 1: tells Elliott that, you know, Brady is a jerk, and
- 32:38Speaker 1: now we have like adult cat sneaking behind and she
- 32:42Speaker 1: can hear their conversation, and this is where kat learns
- 32:45Speaker 1: that Elliott knows about the time travel. Yes, and to
- 32:49Speaker 1: Elliott's credit, he does talk Alice through this moment. He
- 32:54Speaker 1: kind of takes a good neutral position and even though
- 32:57Speaker 1: he does not like Brady either, Kat overhears all of this.
- 33:02Speaker 1: Right back to present day, Ole miss is struggling, but
- 33:06Speaker 1: Elliott births a calf and I cried a little bit
- 33:09Speaker 1: in this moment. No, you did not look did you
- 33:13Speaker 1: birth of anything? On TV? It was an emotional moment
- 33:16Speaker 1: and Dell has clearly put more than her hopes for
- 33:20Speaker 1: just this cow Missy into this moment. This means more
- 33:24Speaker 1: to her than just a calf. Of course, we have
- 33:27Speaker 1: an adult cat back in present day, and she comes
- 33:31Speaker 1: running to the bar to confront Elliott about keeping this
- 33:34Speaker 1: big time travel secret. And Elliott's surprised that Kat can
- 33:38Speaker 1: travel through the pond because this is the first time
- 33:41Speaker 1: that he realizes that somebody other than Alice can move
- 33:46Speaker 1: through time through the pond. Mm hmmm, and so Elliott,
- 33:51Speaker 1: you know. They squabble a little bit here, and Elliott
- 33:53Speaker 1: calls out Kat for not taking care of her family,
- 33:55Speaker 1: especially Dell, because she's making Delle's life harder. Yeah, this
- 34:00Speaker 1: place is falling apart and you're not helping. Elliott's been
- 34:04Speaker 1: stuck in the middle in two timelines here and he
- 34:06Speaker 1: is being a good friend to Alice, and what spitball
- 34:11Speaker 1: here for me? He's gonna go and tell Kat, by
- 34:14Speaker 1: the way, your daughter's traveling through time by way of
- 34:17Speaker 1: a pond, and that was going to go, well, there
- 34:20Speaker 1: was no other way to do this, exactly like what
- 34:24Speaker 1: what is he supposed to be? She would think he's crazy. Yes, no,
- 34:29Speaker 1: not gonna happen, and Kat quickly comes to that realization herself.
- 34:32Speaker 1: Delle calls them into the bar and we have a
- 34:34Speaker 1: cute newborn calf, and we find out what many of
- 34:37Speaker 1: us suspected all along is that Colton gave Grandma cout
- 34:41Speaker 1: A dell as a gift and a dele had sold
- 34:43Speaker 1: off most of the herd, but she kept her descendant, Missy,
- 34:47Speaker 1: and this calf is the last descendant in this line,
- 34:51Speaker 1: and so this was her last, one of her last
- 34:55Speaker 1: connections to her late husband. Oh. Okay, but this is
- 35:00Speaker 1: what's weird to me, Hare, is that now we have
- 35:03Speaker 1: the cow, we had the boat. She's holding onto that stuff,
- 35:07Speaker 1: but everything prior to that, according to Kat Dale, got
- 35:11Speaker 1: rid of Did she get rid of it or is
- 35:14Speaker 1: it packed away too painful to look? Okay, fair Yeah,
- 35:17Speaker 1: but okay Fair fair Dale thanks Elliott for his help,
- 35:21Speaker 1: not just in this moment, but just for the presence
- 35:23Speaker 1: he's been in their family, and Kat realizes that she's
- 35:26Speaker 1: being a jerk too, and she thinks him and they
- 35:29Speaker 1: have a sweet moment. She squeezes his hand, which is
- 35:31Speaker 1: cut short by the arrival of a fancy car outside
- 35:35Speaker 1: the barn, and boom is Brady in the background. We
- 35:39Speaker 1: hear that song again by David Gray. Brady shows up
- 35:43Speaker 1: and he says that he wants to cut You know,
- 35:45Speaker 1: he's there because he missed Alice, and he says happy
- 35:49Speaker 1: to see me, which just takes me back to like
- 35:53Speaker 1: teenage Brady, like I'm like, I don't like you at all.
- 35:56Speaker 1: Now like this tracks adult Brady tracks now, oh right, well,
- 36:01Speaker 1: and it's kind of manipulative. Dude, you have another woman
- 36:05Speaker 1: living in your home, so don't expect your ex wife
- 36:08Speaker 1: to be sponding all over you. That's kind of gross.
- 36:11Speaker 1: But Kat has flashbacks to these early love moments with Brady,
- 36:16Speaker 1: so oh, poor Elliot whoa whoa? And poor doctor Andy too,
- 36:22Speaker 1: poor doctor Andy. I mean, if anything was to come
- 36:25Speaker 1: of that. But now we're in a real triangle here,
- 36:29Speaker 1: we really are. And that's the end of the episode.
- 36:33Speaker 1: That's a wrap. And in the previews we see that
- 36:36Speaker 1: Alice is not interested in talking to Daddy O because
- 36:41Speaker 1: she knows who he used to be and no thanks exactly,
- 36:45Speaker 1: and no new episode next week because of Super Bowl,
- 36:49Speaker 1: so we have to wait two weeks for the return
- 36:51Speaker 1: of The Way Home. Boo. I know, I know, this
- 36:55Speaker 1: is really becoming one of my favorite shows to watch,
- 36:58Speaker 1: and I haven't for a long time had a show
- 37:00Speaker 1: where I have to wait week to week to watch.
- 37:04Speaker 1: All right, So should we talk about Notice in the
- 37:06Speaker 1: Nineties and Homie of the Week? Yeah? For me, the
- 37:11Speaker 1: Notice in the nineties womens are all music related. Mm hmmm.
- 37:16Speaker 1: You know you've got the David Gray song, You've got
- 37:19Speaker 1: LFO Girls of the Summer, You've got the Aerosmith reference. Yeah,
- 37:23Speaker 1: everything else. I will say, Alice's outfit when she comes
- 37:27Speaker 1: into the barn, it's like a very like grunge adjacent
- 37:31Speaker 1: with like the oversized flannel, which is a look that's
- 37:33Speaker 1: popular now but was also popular I think at that
- 37:36Speaker 1: point in the nineties. Yeah, of course. What else your
- 37:40Speaker 1: course for Notice in the nineties, Yeah, the Virgin Cola reference,
- 37:46Speaker 1: Blair Witch Project, you know. Yeah, it's good nice sprinkle throughout. Agree.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Do you have a suggestion for Homie of the Week?
- 37:56Speaker 1: For me, it would be Kyler Lee, not her care character,
- 38:01Speaker 1: but her fantastic acting. She really made me feel things
- 38:06Speaker 1: when she was reacting to seeing Jacob and her dad
- 38:09Speaker 1: in the past. Yes, it has stuck with me, actually,
- 38:13Speaker 1: I agree. All right, homies, thank you for listening to
