- 0:00Speaker 1: I am Sherry Mackie, and it is a Martin Luther
- 0:04Speaker 1: King Junior holiday, and it's time for us to go
- 0:07Speaker 1: to God in prayer. And as always I invite you
- 0:11Speaker 1: to join along with me in prayer. I believe that
- 0:17Speaker 1: I look at the state of our nation and I say,
- 0:19Speaker 1: we're still dreaming, and we should still be praying, Heavenly Father,
- 0:24Speaker 1: on this day we pause to remember, to reflect, to pray.
- 0:29Speaker 1: We thank you for the life, for the legacy of
- 0:32Speaker 1: doctor Martin Luther King Junior, and for the courage of
- 0:35Speaker 1: our forefathers and four mothers who stood for justice, who
- 0:40Speaker 1: stood for dignity, and who stood for equality in the
- 0:44Speaker 1: face of hatred and oppression. They marched God, they prayed,
- 0:48Speaker 1: they endured, and they believed that love could overcome hate. Lord.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Today our hearts are heavy as we look at the
- 0:57Speaker 1: current state of this nation. See division where there should
- 1:01Speaker 1: be unity. We see anger where there should be understanding.
- 1:07Speaker 1: We see pain repeating itself in new forms, and it
- 1:11Speaker 1: grieves us deeply. Father, We are heartbroken as we witness
- 1:16Speaker 1: so many of our youth lost to violence and crime
- 1:19Speaker 1: and hopelessness. We see disrespect replacing honor, difair replacing dreams
- 1:26Speaker 1: and survival replacing purpose. Lord, you know the root of
- 1:30Speaker 1: this pain, the lack of love, the absence of guidance,
- 1:33Speaker 1: the wounds left untreated for generations. God, have mercy on us.
- 1:40Speaker 1: We confess, God, we need you. We confess that racism
- 1:48Speaker 1: has not yet been eradicated. Though laws have changed, heart
- 1:52Speaker 1: still struggles, though progress has been made, and justice still
- 1:57Speaker 1: shows his ugly face. We are still waiting. Lord, We
- 2:00Speaker 1: are still hoping. Lord, we are still dreaming. Father, heal
- 2:05Speaker 1: this land, heal broken systems, heal wounded communities, heal hearts
- 2:09Speaker 1: heartened by fear and ignorance. Teach us how to see
- 2:13Speaker 1: one another, not as enemies, but as neighbors, made in
- 2:17Speaker 1: your image and worthy of dignity. Lord, Raise up leaders
- 2:21Speaker 1: with integrity, with compassion, and with courage. Raise up mentors
- 2:26Speaker 1: for our youth. Restore purpose to those who feel forgotten.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Replace violence with peace, hate with love, and silence with
- 2:35Speaker 1: righteous action. Help us not to grow weary or numb.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Help us not to lose hope. Remind us that justice
- 2:43Speaker 1: still matters, that love still works in that faith still
- 2:47Speaker 1: moves mountains. As doctor King dreamed, we dream, as he prayed,
- 2:53Speaker 1: We pray as he believed. We believe. We believe that
- 2:57Speaker 1: Your kingdom is greater than hatred, believe that light is
- 3:01Speaker 1: stronger than darkness. We believe that love will still have
- 3:04Speaker 1: the final words. So today Lord, we recommit ourselves to
- 3:08Speaker 1: walking in love, to speaking truth and standing for justice
- 3:12Speaker 1: until the dream is fully realize. God, we will keep praying,
- 3:16Speaker 1: we will keep working, and we will keep believing in
- 3:20Speaker 1: the powerful and just name of Jesus. We pray, Amen, Amen,
- 3:25Speaker 1: and Amen.
