- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous Podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Hey everyone, welcome to the Almost Famous Podcast. We are
- 0:08Speaker 2: so excited today we have Joey's third place finisher, Rachel
- 0:14Speaker 2: Nance on the show. Hey Rachel, Hi, guys.
- 0:20Speaker 3: You and I have something in common. We're both third place.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Third place? Okay, though third place is really good?
- 0:27Speaker 4: Great, this is great. It's yeah.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I feel like the emotions like that last week
- 0:33Speaker 3: when you're like, am I gonna be getting like do
- 0:35Speaker 3: I have to say yes or no to this? Like now,
- 0:38Speaker 3: like we never have to consider it when we kind
- 0:40Speaker 3: of think about it, but like we don't actually ever
- 0:42Speaker 3: have to consider it. Third place. You're just like I'm
- 0:45Speaker 3: along for the ride and then you're home and you
- 0:47Speaker 3: know you're good.
- 0:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it was, it was. I mean it's
- 0:51Speaker 4: still a tough place to me because like you're like
- 0:52Speaker 4: you make it to the end.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Like you know, final destination, so.
- 0:57Speaker 4: Literally you get there and then it's like either I'm
- 0:59Speaker 4: out or it's me.
- 1:00Speaker 3: So yeah, Rachel, we're really pumped to have you here.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Tell me if I'm wrong. I feel like you haven't
- 1:09Speaker 3: done many interviews since the show, right.
- 1:12Speaker 4: I've done like, yeah, not really. I think maybe like
- 1:14Speaker 4: a handful of some But.
- 1:16Speaker 3: That's why we love it.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Why are they hiding you.
- 1:19Speaker 4: Because they don't know where I'm from? Just hanging out?
- 1:24Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:25Speaker 2: All right, Well, we definitely got interest in having you
- 1:28Speaker 2: on because we saw that you were in Hawaii recently
- 1:31Speaker 2: and you're doing some gossip bait tiktoks with someone have
- 1:40Speaker 2: had on our show, John Henry, who's over in Hawaii working. Well,
- 1:45Speaker 2: it just cuts to the chase. Well, since I brought
- 1:47Speaker 2: it up, like, is there any real flirtation to those tiktoks?
- 1:52Speaker 4: No, No, we just we hung out. He's just a
- 1:55Speaker 4: great company, he's a super sweet guy, and we both
- 1:58Speaker 4: thought like, oh, we should just make a TikTok because
- 2:02Speaker 4: we're both not propably the best in social media. And
- 2:04Speaker 4: then we made it and I posted it and I
- 2:06Speaker 4: woke up. I said, oh, I might have this, might
- 2:09Speaker 4: have done something.
- 2:11Speaker 3: But it was a good move. What do you I
- 2:13Speaker 3: mean that was? That was a perfect move because he's handsome, right, Yeah, No.
- 2:19Speaker 4: He's handsome, he's sweet, he's a great person. But I
- 2:22Speaker 4: mean it was just I think from the both of us,
- 2:24Speaker 4: it was just dinner.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Oh, but it was a dinner, you know, like it
- 2:29Speaker 2: wasn't like a lunch, which can say so much, so
- 2:33Speaker 2: many different things.
- 2:34Speaker 4: It was like the timing of it. He had work
- 2:36Speaker 4: and like close to my house. I was like, oh yeah,
- 2:39Speaker 4: he's like, let's just get dinner. I was like, sure,
- 2:41Speaker 4: we ate and yeah, it was fun. And then I
- 2:44Speaker 4: posted it and I was like, oh, the world is talking.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely got the rumor mills started. I think, no
- 2:52Speaker 3: matter what, it was a great move, but it did
- 2:55Speaker 3: get us a little bit excited, Like we could see it,
- 2:58Speaker 3: but you're saying you can't see it.
- 3:01Speaker 4: No. I mean I'm not saying that. I just think
- 3:04Speaker 4: we didn't think much of it and we're just like, oh,
- 3:05Speaker 4: this is fun and we did it. And then it
- 3:08Speaker 4: was actually one of my cousins sent me an article.
- 3:10Speaker 4: She's like, what is this and it was like a
- 3:12Speaker 4: picture of he and I. I said rumors. I said, no,
- 3:15Speaker 4: just went to dinner. She said, cousin, I don't think
- 3:17Speaker 4: it's rumors.
- 3:18Speaker 2: And well, did you get a little taste of what
- 3:22Speaker 2: Bachelor in Paradise would have been?
- 3:23Speaker 4: Like? Yeah, and so because I wouldn't do Bachelor in Paradise.
- 3:27Speaker 2: You wouldn't have done it.
- 3:28Speaker 4: Come on, I wouldn't have done it. So I joked
- 3:31Speaker 4: with my mom. I's like, this is kind of my
- 3:33Speaker 4: little VIP moment. I guess they're matching us up. So no,
- 3:36Speaker 4: I wouldn't do Paradise. It's not that's not for me.
- 3:39Speaker 2: But are you sure you're saying not just saying that
- 3:41Speaker 2: because like it wasn't happening. So in your head, you're like,
- 3:44Speaker 2: I don't have to really make this decision, so I'm
- 3:46Speaker 2: just gonna go with whatever. My initial thought is.
- 3:50Speaker 4: I just don't know if I would thrive in VIP.
- 3:53Speaker 2: I feel like he would for some reason. I definitely
- 3:56Speaker 2: feel like you would have been very much a main character.
- 4:00Speaker 4: We think, thank you, but I told something.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Probably because you were a third place and you probably
- 4:04Speaker 2: would have been first Sand and all that.
- 4:07Speaker 4: See, I don't even know how it works.
- 4:08Speaker 3: These are these are words I don't even know. I mean,
- 4:10Speaker 3: I know what you're talking about, Ashley, but I like
- 4:12Speaker 3: how you have Like.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Maybe in the past two years, they've come up with
- 4:16Speaker 2: that lingo first Sand for the group that goes down first,
- 4:20Speaker 2: the coveted group.
- 4:22Speaker 4: Oh, so they show they show certain people first.
- 4:24Speaker 2: The people that like are the original.
- 4:26Speaker 4: Cast, got it got it then you.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Yeah, the ones that are coming in the shake it up,
- 4:32Speaker 3: the ones that are coming in the causal of drama.
- 4:34Speaker 3: You're not a drama started starter.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Choose his first sand.
- 4:37Speaker 3: That's why I think Paradise could have used you, because
- 4:41Speaker 3: Paradise is like this, and I say use you, like
- 4:44Speaker 3: they could have benefited from you being there because Paradise
- 4:47Speaker 3: has like two elements to it. One is like a
- 4:49Speaker 3: really cool love story, and then you kind of a
- 4:52Speaker 3: side story that's like the drama, the people, like the
- 4:55Speaker 3: love triangles, the fighting. I feel like you would have
- 4:58Speaker 3: probably gone in and said, hey, I'll make the most
- 5:00Speaker 3: out of this weird experience, but I'm not going to
- 5:03Speaker 3: dive into the troubles, which is kind of a like
- 5:07Speaker 3: that's a good ying ying when we watch the show.
- 5:10Speaker 4: Yeah, that would be me. You're correct, You're correct. I
- 5:12Speaker 4: did tell I said, you know, if VIP were to happen,
- 5:16Speaker 4: I was like, can I go for just one day?
- 5:18Speaker 4: Like I just want to show up just for one
- 5:19Speaker 4: day and then just go home just second.
- 5:21Speaker 2: See, that wouldn't have been an option for you.
- 5:23Speaker 4: I know, I know that hard works. I was like,
- 5:26Speaker 4: I just want to hang out with the girl, you.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Would you have had a list of guys that you
- 5:30Speaker 2: would have been interested in other seasons?
- 5:33Speaker 4: Well, no, because I'm I'm finally starting to learn who
- 5:35Speaker 4: everyone is, slowly but surely, Like the girls are educating
- 5:39Speaker 4: me on the past cast because they'll talk about it
- 5:41Speaker 4: and I'll have no idea what they're talking about, So
- 5:44Speaker 4: I don't really know who's out there in ratchroination that's
- 5:46Speaker 4: even single Except you.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Never watched No, So how'd you get on?
- 5:52Speaker 4: My best friend would watch the show every Monday, and
- 5:55Speaker 4: I would dog on her and I was like, oh,
- 5:57Speaker 4: my goodness, you're watching that show again. She's like, is
- 5:59Speaker 4: she so good? And then they announced Joey and then
- 6:04Speaker 4: I think a week later, she's like, I'm just gonna
- 6:05Speaker 4: nominate you and they'll probably pick you. And I was like,
- 6:07Speaker 4: I don't think they will, and then they did.
- 6:10Speaker 2: And then your third place, I know, well.
- 6:13Speaker 4: I told her. I was like, I was like, if
- 6:14Speaker 4: they picked me, I think I would leave night one
- 6:16Speaker 4: because we didn't talk night one. So I went on
- 6:18Speaker 4: there and I gave him the lane and that was it.
- 6:20Speaker 4: I was like, Oh, I'm for sure going home. And
- 6:22Speaker 4: then every week I said, why am I I'm still
- 6:24Speaker 4: here fucking alone.
- 6:26Speaker 2: You probably didn't care so much on night one too,
- 6:28Speaker 2: because you're like, oh, I don't even watch the show.
- 6:30Speaker 2: I'm not really even a fan. I don't care if
- 6:31Speaker 2: I get a lot at night one.
- 6:32Speaker 4: Yeah, oh, kind of like, okay, this is wild. Like
- 6:34Speaker 4: there's cameras everywhere. I was like, where's the food. They're like,
- 6:36Speaker 4: all the food's in the back.
- 6:37Speaker 2: It's like, ok haha, my kind of girl.
- 6:39Speaker 4: All he had the drinks in the food.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Not to not to like fast forward to too much though,
- 6:46Speaker 3: but you kind of went into it with probably the
- 6:48Speaker 3: best attitude of anybody, like, hey, this is cool, let
- 6:51Speaker 3: me see it. When did it start becoming real to
- 6:54Speaker 3: you though? Like when did the feelings start to increase
- 6:56Speaker 3: where you're like, no, I actually I want to be here.
- 7:00Speaker 4: Yeah, I think I want to say the first couple
- 7:01Speaker 4: of weeks I was filling it out for sure, because
- 7:04Speaker 4: it's a whole new road. I went from nursing to
- 7:06Speaker 4: cameras in my face and like dulled up. So it
- 7:09Speaker 4: was really wild. And I think right before we started traveling,
- 7:13Speaker 4: he and I had a conversation. I think it was
- 7:18Speaker 4: maybe like the pool party or something like that, where
- 7:21Speaker 4: it kind of clicked with me that we did have
- 7:22Speaker 4: a lot in common, and I was like, oh, he's
- 7:24Speaker 4: you know, he is very genuine, he's very sweet, Like
- 7:26Speaker 4: he's not here just for like the glamor and the
- 7:28Speaker 4: glory of it, and neither am I. So from then on,
- 7:32Speaker 4: I think I started to open up a bit more
- 7:33Speaker 4: and then allow myself to see where it would go.
- 7:36Speaker 4: And that's how that feelings started developing, which in the
- 7:38Speaker 4: two of us.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Now, you guys had a moment at the wedding date.
- 7:42Speaker 4: Oh, yes, that was That was fun too. That was
- 7:44Speaker 4: fun too.
- 7:45Speaker 2: I was so memorable that I'm thinking about it four
- 7:47Speaker 2: months later. You guys had chemistry.
- 7:50Speaker 4: Yeah, that was a good date. But I'm also like,
- 7:52Speaker 4: in my head, I didn't think we did. Then I
- 7:54Speaker 4: watched it back and I was like, oh, shoot, yeah
- 7:58Speaker 4: we did.
- 7:59Speaker 3: We did it good. The actually I'm thinking about this.
- 8:04Speaker 3: We get a lot of some people that we talked
- 8:06Speaker 3: to who has not have not watched a show previously.
- 8:11Speaker 3: A lot of those end up watching, you know, past
- 8:13Speaker 3: seasons kind of leading up to their time on the show,
- 8:16Speaker 3: so they get educated and then I do think they
- 8:18Speaker 3: become kind of not fans, but they do add in
- 8:20Speaker 3: this nerve these nerves, and there the stress, and then
- 8:24Speaker 3: it becomes this competition almost like I don't want to
- 8:26Speaker 3: go home when I want. I don't want to home
- 8:27Speaker 3: one week two Like I'm kind of you know, it's
- 8:29Speaker 3: trying to stick around. I feel like talking to you,
- 8:32Speaker 3: your feelings might be not that anybody was not genuine
- 8:35Speaker 3: this last season, but your feelings were very genuine because
- 8:40Speaker 3: you didn't really care if you were there or not.
- 8:43Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, And I think one thing is so I
- 8:45Speaker 4: told my parents I got on the show the day
- 8:47Speaker 4: before I left. Bobershul have told them earlier, but.
- 8:50Speaker 3: I don't wild move.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Hey, mom and Dad, I'm not gonna have my phone
- 8:57Speaker 2: for the next whoever knows how long because I'm going
- 9:00Speaker 2: on the best.
- 9:01Speaker 4: Yeah. I called him. I said, hey, so you know,
- 9:04Speaker 4: I may not have my phone for a couple of months.
- 9:05Speaker 4: And they're like, what's going on? And I said, I
- 9:08Speaker 4: think I'm gonna go on this show, and my dad
- 9:09Speaker 4: goes which one? So when I told them which show
- 9:12Speaker 4: was going on, they were kind of the ones that
- 9:14Speaker 4: my dad specifically, he said, I'm obviously going to support
- 9:18Speaker 4: you if you go on the show. But he's like
- 9:19Speaker 4: if it's not you, You're going to be totally fine. So
- 9:22Speaker 4: he's like, just go in there and just you know,
- 9:24Speaker 4: be yourself and have a good time. So I think
- 9:26Speaker 4: having that mindset and not expecting anything is it helped
- 9:30Speaker 4: me keep calm And to me, like, if there's multiple women,
- 9:33Speaker 4: I don't think it's a competition because at the end
- 9:35Speaker 4: of the day, he's going to pick who he wants
- 9:36Speaker 4: and you're supposed to pick him as well. So to me,
- 9:39Speaker 4: I feel like I was hanging out with my friends
- 9:40Speaker 4: who kind of kissed him after me. But you know,
- 9:42Speaker 4: it's totally fine. You know, that was a part of
- 9:44Speaker 4: the whole thing. But yeah, I agree with you. I
- 9:46Speaker 4: think I was very genuine and it worked out the
- 9:49Speaker 4: best way possible I think for a final three in
- 9:52Speaker 4: my opinion, So I was happy.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Right after the finale or your departure. You were really
- 10:09Speaker 2: honest about the fact that, like when you were in
- 10:12Speaker 2: the top three and at that Rose ceremony, you were like,
- 10:17Speaker 2: I don't think it's I don't fit here anymore. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 10:21Speaker 2: can you explain a little bit more.
- 10:22Speaker 4: Yeah, I think go after hometowns. I think it's very
- 10:27Speaker 4: emotionally right, Like you don't see your family for so
- 10:29Speaker 4: long and you finally see them, I think it clicks
- 10:32Speaker 4: for you, and I think a lot of I felt
- 10:35Speaker 4: guilt for some reason when I saw my family. I
- 10:37Speaker 4: was like, you know, I haven't seen them, the notes
- 10:38Speaker 4: going on with my life, And even though Joey was
- 10:41Speaker 4: very supportive and we meshed and we met my family,
- 10:44Speaker 4: I could just feel that I don't think it was
- 10:46Speaker 4: going to continue. After fantasy suites. I think we both
- 10:50Speaker 4: knew that the connection between the other two were stronger
- 10:53Speaker 4: than he and I, and I think I became more
- 10:55Speaker 4: of the platonic type of love than a romantic type
- 10:58Speaker 4: of love and nothing. I think us both understanding that
- 11:02Speaker 4: was the end of our relationship. It was so hard
- 11:05Speaker 4: to not hear my name being called, but at the
- 11:07Speaker 4: same time, I knew it wasn't going to meet me,
- 11:10Speaker 4: so I had some peace going to the ceremony, but
- 11:12Speaker 4: I still cried. So you can't even it's so sad
- 11:16Speaker 4: regardless of yeah, even if you know it's the end,
- 11:19Speaker 4: it's like all of the time you spent together and
- 11:21Speaker 4: everything leading up to it, that it's finally done.
- 11:24Speaker 3: Yeah, it's and it's such an incredible experience. Especially when
- 11:29Speaker 3: you do it like you did it that you look
- 11:31Speaker 3: back on you This was wild, emotional. I have a
- 11:34Speaker 3: lot of memories. These are things that people want to
- 11:36Speaker 3: talk to me about for the next you know, twenty
- 11:38Speaker 3: years of my life. And it's sad to then say
- 11:41Speaker 3: this is done. Something interesting about your seat about your
- 11:45Speaker 3: season of The Bachelor, because it did feel like a
- 11:48Speaker 3: lot of the women got along a lot better than
- 11:51Speaker 3: previous seasons, especially when it came down, you know, to
- 11:54Speaker 3: the final three. Are you still close with Kelsey and Daisy?
- 11:59Speaker 3: I mean, obviously, you know they have moved on. They're
- 12:02Speaker 3: both doing their thing. But have you guys stayed in contact?
- 12:04Speaker 4: Oh? Yeah, I think everyone that I was friends with
- 12:07Speaker 4: while filming, I'm still friends with now. So you know,
- 12:11Speaker 4: Leiah has always been my girl since day one, the
- 12:13Speaker 4: whole way connection. Daisy and I have been close since
- 12:16Speaker 4: day one. I was her first hug in the mansion,
- 12:19Speaker 4: and actually we have the Can I tell the story
- 12:21Speaker 4: how days and I met?
- 12:22Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 12:22Speaker 2: Yes, please.
- 12:24Speaker 4: She loved telling the story if you ask her this.
- 12:26Speaker 4: So I didn't know that she had her cochlear I
- 12:29Speaker 4: didn't know that she had issues. So we're sitting in
- 12:31Speaker 4: the kitchen. It's super loud, and like I was over
- 12:33Speaker 4: stimulated and she was over stimulated, and we had no idea.
- 12:35Speaker 4: So she was stating next to me and I was like,
- 12:37Speaker 4: I was like, hey, I'm Rachel. She's like, I'm Daisy
- 12:40Speaker 4: and I was like cool, and that was it. We
- 12:41Speaker 4: were just sitting and I said and then I guess
- 12:44Speaker 4: she couldn't hear me, so she has got up and
- 12:46Speaker 4: like walked to mid conversation and I was like this,
- 12:49Speaker 4: she's kind of rude. I was like, I really like
- 12:51Speaker 4: her and came back and where'd you go? And she
- 12:54Speaker 4: was like huh. I said, I like you, you're kind
- 12:56Speaker 4: of just in your own world. And I didn't know
- 12:57Speaker 4: it's because she couldn't. Yeah, the next day she told
- 13:00Speaker 4: me and we're laughing. We were just dying laughing about it.
- 13:03Speaker 4: So we just always joked about how we didn't hear
- 13:05Speaker 4: each other.
- 13:05Speaker 2: The first night, but we just I love that.
- 13:08Speaker 4: But yeah, so I'm close with them. Kelsey and I talk,
- 13:11Speaker 4: you know when we can. They're so busy, like all
- 13:13Speaker 4: of us are doing our own thing, but we still
- 13:15Speaker 4: have time to kind of reconnect and touch base. So
- 13:17Speaker 4: I love them.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Yeah, and I know that you are really a support
- 13:21Speaker 2: system for my friend Sydney. So thank you for that. Sydney.
- 13:27Speaker 4: She was going through it, Yes, she was going for it,
- 13:30Speaker 4: but she handled it. She handled it so well. She's
- 13:33Speaker 4: looking at her, she's doing great, she's thriving, so.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Okay, I don't know how many people could get through it.
- 13:38Speaker 2: She is definitely, she definitely proved that she's very strong.
- 13:42Speaker 4: Really resilient. Yeah. She she's such a sweet person. I
- 13:45Speaker 4: think we're like when I go on in public and
- 13:47Speaker 4: some people have still come up to me and they're like,
- 13:49Speaker 4: are your friends with that one girl like Sydney she
- 13:51Speaker 4: has a name, and they're like, yeah, she's so mean.
- 13:54Speaker 4: I'm like, no, dude, she's she's so nice. Like I
- 13:58Speaker 4: don't know, people forget that. It's you're not there for
- 14:00Speaker 4: everything that's going on in the show.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:03Speaker 2: But also Maria, where is she? Like I haven't seen
- 14:06Speaker 2: her anywhere on social media or anything like that. I mean,
- 14:10Speaker 2: I don't follow her, but like I feel like she's
- 14:11Speaker 2: been quiet.
- 14:13Speaker 4: I think she's just I think she's enjoying the piece
- 14:15Speaker 4: and then she's making a lot of connections with other
- 14:17Speaker 4: people from other seasons. I think from last time I've
- 14:20Speaker 4: seen what she's doing, just traveling the world. We're all
- 14:22Speaker 4: kind of just in our own world right now, just
- 14:24Speaker 4: doing her own thing, which I love. But yeah, I
- 14:26Speaker 4: haven't talked to her in a minute either.
- 14:28Speaker 3: There's always this like element and you'd know more than
- 14:31Speaker 3: we do right now of people you know, meeting up
- 14:34Speaker 3: from past seasons, and the singles especially kind of find
- 14:38Speaker 3: their ways to the same events, the same parties, the
- 14:41Speaker 3: same things. And then you see all these you know,
- 14:43Speaker 3: all this stuff come out on social media where they're
- 14:45Speaker 3: they're together. Have you won for you? Have you you know,
- 14:49Speaker 3: kind of connected with anybody from past seasons? And then
- 14:52Speaker 3: two you mentioned earlier in the show that you're getting
- 14:57Speaker 3: educated on some of the past contestants. What names get
- 15:00Speaker 3: hopped up in that conversation?
- 15:02Speaker 4: Okay, so I was like the basic ones, like I
- 15:05Speaker 4: know who I know who you guys are because I
- 15:08Speaker 4: have to educate myself, but.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Nobody's telling you about us. You're googling us, right, I
- 15:13Speaker 3: had no id?
- 15:14Speaker 4: Okay, I had to. And then there was one time
- 15:16Speaker 4: I was I was at a party and someone came
- 15:19Speaker 4: up to me, Oh.
- 15:21Speaker 2: I think it, I think it's she's like it was
- 15:23Speaker 2: Tyler Cameron, Oh Tyler.
- 15:26Speaker 4: Oh okay, so Toddle Cameron. That's a good one. You know.
- 15:30Speaker 4: I got the invite to go.
- 15:31Speaker 2: To his Oh that's right, yeah.
- 15:32Speaker 4: Show right, yeah, And I had to educate myself and
- 15:36Speaker 4: I went up to him. I said, I'm so sorry,
- 15:38Speaker 4: are you Why are you important? Again? Like I just
- 15:40Speaker 4: know your name, I just need to know what it is.
- 15:43Speaker 4: And he's like, oh, it's okay. I was just talking
- 15:45Speaker 4: on Hannah Brown season. I said, oh, I know who
- 15:47Speaker 4: she is. I know who she is. I did you
- 15:48Speaker 4: make it far? And he was like yeah. I said, okay,
- 15:56Speaker 4: I'm so Leah always tells me Leah from the show.
- 15:59Speaker 4: She's like Tita, I mean sisters like Tita. You're gonna
- 16:02Speaker 4: start embarrassing yourself. You just start knowing whose people are
- 16:04Speaker 4: because you go to the events and you have no
- 16:05Speaker 4: id to whose people are, and then you might humble
- 16:07Speaker 4: them too much. I said, sorry, they could use it.
- 16:11Speaker 1: I know.
- 16:11Speaker 4: I have to bring like a folder with me to
- 16:13Speaker 4: have like pictures like.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Yeah, product like oppressed, like a press.
- 16:17Speaker 4: Like this is yeah. I think I'm starting to learn,
- 16:21Speaker 4: Like I learned who John Henry rudzs who my best
- 16:23Speaker 4: friend I learned who Tanner was from Leah. I learned
- 16:27Speaker 4: other people through charity. She's kind of told me who
- 16:28Speaker 4: people are. I'm just I'm a slotle learner.
- 16:33Speaker 2: No, you're fine, You're good. You don't even have to learn.
- 16:35Speaker 2: You're good. Just need people. Yeah, let's talk about like
- 16:38Speaker 2: your life. You are still nursing, yes, And the show
- 16:43Speaker 2: complicated your whereabouts a little bit. They said that you
- 16:47Speaker 2: were based in Maine, but you're based in California. And
- 16:50Speaker 2: if you're not in California, you're with your family in Hawaii.
- 16:54Speaker 4: Yes. So born and raised in Hawaii, left, came to
- 16:58Speaker 4: California for some years of school, moved to Maine for
- 17:01Speaker 4: nursing school, became a nurse in Washington State, Okay, now
- 17:05Speaker 4: working as a nurse in California. And then when I'm
- 17:08Speaker 4: not working, because I'm a travel nurse, I go home
- 17:11Speaker 4: and then I come back and forth. Just the best
- 17:13Speaker 4: of both worlds.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Honestly, why be a travel nurse if you could just
- 17:16Speaker 2: live in Hawaii?
- 17:18Speaker 4: I like, I love home. I just like to have
- 17:22Speaker 4: my own space and do my own thing and then
- 17:26Speaker 4: go home into my family, you know, like get Island Fever.
- 17:28Speaker 4: I lived in my whole life I like to Yeah,
- 17:31Speaker 4: the bigger mainland. I guess.
- 17:34Speaker 3: It's a it's an interesting world where Hawaii is a
- 17:39Speaker 3: place you're choosing not to live full time. Nobody, it
- 17:43Speaker 3: doesn't make sense to many.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Yeah, here in California. California can have a lot of
- 17:48Speaker 2: elements of Hawaii with its like perma summer and all that.
- 17:52Speaker 4: I think a lot of my coworkers they always ask me,
- 17:54Speaker 4: They're like, why don't you live in Hawaii? And I
- 17:57Speaker 4: mean home will always be there, Like it's it's also
- 17:59Speaker 4: just so expected to live in Hawaii on your own
- 18:02Speaker 4: and here I live with my best friend and we travel,
- 18:05Speaker 4: we can like drive to different states. You can do
- 18:07Speaker 4: all those things here. You can't do it in Hawaii.
- 18:09Speaker 4: Like if you're in Hawaii, you're on that rock.
- 18:12Speaker 3: So but Maine is so like Maine is not a
- 18:15Speaker 3: home for you, Like even though that's like a like
- 18:18Speaker 3: a place that people continue to speak of, Maine is
- 18:21Speaker 3: Maine is a stop on the way to in your life.
- 18:24Speaker 4: Yeah, Maine was just two years of my life and
- 18:27Speaker 4: I had I had a really like I think Maine
- 18:29Speaker 4: was my two of my hardest years. So I don't
- 18:32Speaker 4: ever plan it going back there, to be honest, But yeah,
- 18:35Speaker 4: I have like really bad memories in Maine.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Well was that a relationship memory?
- 18:41Speaker 4: It was? Yeah, it was one of my worst relationships
- 18:45Speaker 4: was in Maine, and where I lived was not the
- 18:50Speaker 4: most progressive place to live safe, right, just weird experiences
- 18:55Speaker 4: with people.
- 18:56Speaker 3: But but what people don't know you were in Maine
- 18:59Speaker 3: and you were an athlete. I mean you got a
- 19:01Speaker 3: volleyball scholarship.
- 19:02Speaker 4: Yeah, I've played volleyball while doing nursery school, which was
- 19:06Speaker 4: a wild time. I think when I tell people that,
- 19:07Speaker 4: they always they're like surprised. I'm like, why is that surprising?
- 19:11Speaker 4: Like my bilt weird just told me that they would
- 19:13Speaker 4: I just say that, But yeah, people get surprised. And
- 19:17Speaker 4: I did nursing school and volleyball, so it was a
- 19:19Speaker 4: good experience. But I just definitely would not go back
- 19:22Speaker 4: to me.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Okay, okay, Well you say that in your bachelor bio
- 19:26Speaker 2: that there's nothing better than a Hawaiian Christmas, to which
- 19:31Speaker 2: we're like, really, that's to me personally, as somebody who
- 19:36Speaker 2: could go summer all year long. I think the month
- 19:40Speaker 2: of December is the only time that I do want
- 19:43Speaker 2: that christmasy winter feel, so why is a Hawaiian summer great?
- 19:47Speaker 2: I mean Christmas, y'all.
- 19:49Speaker 4: Get me wrong. I've experienced my first white Christmas and
- 19:51Speaker 4: it was beautiful. But I think it's just the whole
- 19:55Speaker 4: idea of how my family goes about Christmas back home,
- 19:58Speaker 4: and we just have like really fun tray dish, Like
- 20:00Speaker 4: you can go to the beach on a Christmas morning
- 20:02Speaker 4: if you wanted to, you go for a morning swim.
- 20:06Speaker 4: It just I think the energy in Hawaii is just
- 20:08Speaker 4: always Christmas is such a loving day. So when it's
- 20:11Speaker 4: nice and sunny and you're with your family, it just
- 20:13Speaker 4: feels very warm and loving altogether. And with like my
- 20:17Speaker 4: Filipino culture and how we do things, I always just
- 20:19Speaker 4: think Christmas in Hawaii tops a white Christmas. That's just
- 20:22Speaker 4: my opinion. Come come find out and come to my
- 20:25Speaker 4: family if you want, you can experience a Christmas in Hawaiian.
- 20:38Speaker 3: Speaking of your family, I do want to dig in
- 20:42Speaker 3: a little bit because you were very brave during the
- 20:45Speaker 3: woman tell a hall speaking about some of the hateful
- 20:47Speaker 3: comments that you received following kind of the airing. I
- 20:54Speaker 3: believe it was during hometowns, Like following hometowns was when
- 20:56Speaker 3: you felt like the hateful comments started coming in. I
- 21:01Speaker 3: guess my question for you is, uh, what, like where
- 21:06Speaker 3: did you feel like that was coming from? I mean,
- 21:07Speaker 3: I guess if you could try to speak into the
- 21:10Speaker 3: the criticism, like where was that coming from? And then
- 21:13Speaker 3: like how have you tried to respond? Yeah to those?
- 21:17Speaker 4: And I think I mean I again, because I don't
- 21:20Speaker 4: really know how the other seasons were. Maybe my family's
- 21:24Speaker 4: hometown was very different than other hometowns, so I think
- 21:27Speaker 4: to many viewers it was just a whole new world
- 21:29Speaker 4: they were kind of forced to watch, I guess, but
- 21:34Speaker 4: I think it's there's just a lot of people who
- 21:38Speaker 4: just maybe just judged my family based of how we look,
- 21:41Speaker 4: and I think that's kind of where it stemmed from.
- 21:44Speaker 4: And obviously I didn't expect any of the hate to
- 21:46Speaker 4: come or I come after hometowns. I thought it was
- 21:49Speaker 4: such a great day. But you know, when I asked
- 21:52Speaker 4: my dad and they saw some of the comments, They're like,
- 21:54Speaker 4: you know, it's just people are just going to have
- 21:56Speaker 4: an opinion about literally anything. If it's not their norm,
- 21:58Speaker 4: they're going to probably be against it. And that's kind
- 22:00Speaker 4: of what happened. And as a result, like I got
- 22:03Speaker 4: the heat for my family got the heat for it,
- 22:06Speaker 4: so it was hard at first. I definitely had to
- 22:10Speaker 4: like delete some of the messages and kind of forget
- 22:12Speaker 4: some of it. But to be honest, I think many
- 22:16Speaker 4: viewers of the show are like Midwest type of I
- 22:20Speaker 4: think the popula should watch the show's like Midwest or
- 22:23Speaker 4: like East Coast, so they don't see a lot of
- 22:25Speaker 4: Filipino stuff, like cultural things at hometowns maybe, which is
- 22:29Speaker 4: very different for them. But yeah, it's still hurt because
- 22:32Speaker 4: why you don't come in my family like that, like
- 22:35Speaker 4: just let us have a gun.
- 22:37Speaker 2: You wrote an essay for the Today Show about it?
- 22:41Speaker 2: Did that feel cathartic?
- 22:44Speaker 4: I guess I had a hard one. I guess when
- 22:46Speaker 4: I wrote that it was actually hard because I don't
- 22:48Speaker 4: mind speaking up about it, But then it still takes
- 22:51Speaker 4: me back to things that happened to me in Maine
- 22:54Speaker 4: and then things that happened to me on the show.
- 22:55Speaker 4: Being so public and national, it kind of always had
- 22:59Speaker 4: me choked up when I was writing it, and I
- 23:01Speaker 4: was getting angry anxious when they were going to publish
- 23:03Speaker 4: because I was like, oh, this ether is going to
- 23:04Speaker 4: give me more hate because I'm talking about it again.
- 23:08Speaker 4: But it was also very empowering because then I could
- 23:10Speaker 4: just speak about it and whether people want to hear
- 23:13Speaker 4: it or not, it's out there for them to read
- 23:14Speaker 4: it or to hear. And it's still I still get
- 23:17Speaker 4: comments here and there, like you know, the TikTok with
- 23:19Speaker 4: John Henry. I deleted some comments because some people would
- 23:22Speaker 4: make would say stuff like she doesn't like brown people,
- 23:24Speaker 4: he doesn't like brown women, like take this down, and
- 23:26Speaker 4: I'm like, dude, let the man lived, let him come
- 23:30Speaker 4: at dinner. It's it's wild. And so I still get
- 23:35Speaker 4: some things here and owt. But the end of the day,
- 23:36Speaker 4: it's just people who are miserable and they wouldn't say
- 23:38Speaker 4: to my life.
- 23:39Speaker 3: So well, yeah, those you know, the like the trolls
- 23:44Speaker 3: or whatever you call them, you know, don't interest me
- 23:48Speaker 3: as much as the general like, hey, you felt like
- 23:52Speaker 3: your hometown was not appreciated respected that there wasn't this
- 23:58Speaker 3: level of curiosity too, Hey what's happening here? But I
- 24:02Speaker 3: want to ask a question because I think it happens
- 24:06Speaker 3: so often on the show, or people assume it happens.
- 24:09Speaker 3: When we saw your hometown, which was really entertaining and
- 24:13Speaker 3: really fun and really like there's a lot of like
- 24:16Speaker 3: good things happening there. How much of a say did
- 24:21Speaker 3: your family get? I guess maybe the question trying to
- 24:23Speaker 3: ask is how accurate of a portrayal of what your
- 24:26Speaker 3: family would do at a gathering? Was existing at that
- 24:29Speaker 3: hometown date or was it requested and kind of forced
- 24:33Speaker 3: upon everybody?
- 24:34Speaker 4: Yeah? So, I because I think it was hometown. You
- 24:37Speaker 4: can't talk to your families, you don't really know what's
- 24:39Speaker 4: actually going on. But all I did tell you know,
- 24:43Speaker 4: the show was my hometown's. I would like it to
- 24:46Speaker 4: be as authentic to my Filipino culture as close as possible,
- 24:51Speaker 4: and it did portray I'm not saying I could go
- 24:55Speaker 4: to my Auntie's house and we do Tinni kling every time,
- 24:58Speaker 4: but Tinni kling is something that we have done as
- 25:00Speaker 4: a family. We had like family footage of us doing that,
- 25:04Speaker 4: the pig, the lech on, we do that special occasion.
- 25:08Speaker 4: So that's very true and authentic to who we are.
- 25:11Speaker 4: And the lay, the leo that I wore and the
- 25:13Speaker 4: lay that they gave Joey. I get that when I
- 25:15Speaker 4: come home. So it's pretty accurate of how my family is.
- 25:18Speaker 4: And I think some people thought maybe we were overdoing it.
- 25:21Speaker 4: But I loved it and the food was great, so
- 25:25Speaker 4: and the show loved the food.
- 25:26Speaker 2: The producers they're eating they did.
- 25:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I was like, eat it up.
- 25:29Speaker 2: It's did they tell your family, like you guys can
- 25:33Speaker 2: come up with the ideas the traditions, So I did ask.
- 25:37Speaker 4: My mom did tell me. They did ask for their suggestions,
- 25:39Speaker 4: and my mom's so sweet. It's like whatever Rachel wants.
- 25:41Speaker 4: While I was saying whatever my mom wants. So they
- 25:45Speaker 4: did ask me, like, are you okay with dancing te
- 25:46Speaker 4: Ni Klan? I was like, oh, I would love to.
- 25:48Speaker 4: I that's something I did when I was younger, and
- 25:50Speaker 4: I said I would love to have like Filipino foods.
- 25:52Speaker 4: My auntie cooks and Filipino foods. So we all worked
- 25:55Speaker 4: together to make it as best as possible. And since
- 25:58Speaker 4: it wasn't in my actual hometown hometown, them doing that
- 26:02Speaker 4: made me feel more at home like I was in Hawaii.
- 26:04Speaker 4: They added that aspect to it, so I thought it
- 26:06Speaker 4: was perfect. I wanted it to be.
- 26:09Speaker 3: I think it's great, and I think the comments are
- 26:12Speaker 3: maybe just I mean, I don't want to but they're
- 26:14Speaker 3: coming from a place of just like discomfort. Unfamiliarness, which
- 26:18Speaker 3: is like the one of the like if you switch
- 26:20Speaker 3: down and be like, hey, when I don't understand something,
- 26:23Speaker 3: that's one of the fun parts of life because when
- 26:25Speaker 3: I get older, there's less and less that's new to me.
- 26:28Speaker 3: And you brought that and so I'm just I'm saying, like,
- 26:30Speaker 3: to your family and to yourself, like you're helping people
- 26:33Speaker 3: see that there's a world outside of our little you know,
- 26:37Speaker 3: spots in our little neighborhoods, and I think that's awesome.
- 26:39Speaker 4: Yeah, And it's funny because I'm like all of you
- 26:41Speaker 4: guys making these comments when to come to Hawaii so
- 26:44Speaker 4: not like.
- 26:48Speaker 2: And I'm sure that it made Joey feel like even
- 26:51Speaker 2: more comfortable to be like discovering and exploring something new
- 26:56Speaker 2: then just like, oh, we're just gonna sit around a couch.
- 26:59Speaker 4: Yeah. And it was great too because he lived in
- 27:01Speaker 4: Hawaii for oh duh. Yeah it was I don't know
- 27:04Speaker 4: what it was like a year or two, I think,
- 27:06Speaker 4: so thankfully for him it was. It wasn't like a
- 27:08Speaker 4: wild idea. Maybe the tinnikling was a little bit.
- 27:13Speaker 2: No, he was fine, but it was all good. We're
- 27:16Speaker 2: all good.
- 27:17Speaker 4: He's fine.
- 27:18Speaker 3: I do have one kind of like final question here
- 27:21Speaker 3: for you at least, and thanks for giving us your
- 27:24Speaker 3: time today. Are you dating?
- 27:29Speaker 4: I am.
- 27:31Speaker 3: To be honest, I think that was just a yes.
- 27:36Speaker 4: No, I'm not dating this guy, but we're just getting
- 27:40Speaker 4: to know each other.
- 27:41Speaker 2: Yeah, so you're dating.
- 27:43Speaker 4: We've gone in a couple of dates.
- 27:45Speaker 3: Does he have two first names?
- 27:47Speaker 4: Does he have with you? No? I actually posted on
- 27:52Speaker 4: my Instagram and people are trying to figure out who
- 27:53Speaker 4: the person is in my Instagram because it's his arm,
- 27:56Speaker 4: his hand.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Does he lived you in California?
- 28:01Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 28:04Speaker 2: Is he from Betslar Nation in any way? No, there
- 28:07Speaker 2: we go. It's not the two names.
- 28:10Speaker 4: I don't think anyone's going to find out who he is.
- 28:12Speaker 4: I called him yesterday and I said, they're going to
- 28:14Speaker 4: eat you live if they find out who you are.
- 28:15Speaker 4: He's like, yeah, I saw that.
- 28:17Speaker 3: Do you do I would I know him?
- 28:19Speaker 4: No? Oh, okay, he's a little humble person. No one,
- 28:24Speaker 4: no one, no one knows he is.
- 28:25Speaker 2: That's good. How'd you meet at uh at a baseball game? Cute?
- 28:33Speaker 2: Is he a baseball player? No, it's the humble man.
- 28:36Speaker 4: No he's not. No, he's not, but he does play sports.
- 28:39Speaker 4: So yeah, he's nice, he's but we're just feeling it out.
- 28:42Speaker 4: It's like new, you know.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's definitely new because I don't think
- 28:46Speaker 2: you would have posted the John Henry thing if you
- 28:47Speaker 2: were actually in a relationship, right right.
- 28:50Speaker 4: So I also told him, I was like, you know,
- 28:52Speaker 4: if we were to do this, I don't want to
- 28:53Speaker 4: bring you into my world. And it's like a lot
- 28:56Speaker 4: are you.
- 28:57Speaker 3: Yeah, have fun with it, just enjoy it for his
- 29:00Speaker 3: long as you want to enjoy it.
- 29:01Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm just hanging out, keeping it quiet. There you go.
- 29:05Speaker 2: Before we leave, we have to ask about Jen. Have
- 29:08Speaker 2: you spoken to her since I have not?
- 29:11Speaker 4: We follow each other now on Instagram because I think
- 29:12Speaker 4: when she was gone, you don't have your phone, so
- 29:14Speaker 4: we didn't together, but we messaged before. I wish her luck.
- 29:20Speaker 4: I also, you know, hugged and I said, like, good
- 29:22Speaker 4: luck on your show. I think before she started filming
- 29:24Speaker 4: at the after final rose. So I'm very excited to
- 29:29Speaker 4: see what happens for her. It's just wild, wild that
- 29:33Speaker 4: she's batched for it.
- 29:34Speaker 3: It will you be watching?
- 29:37Speaker 4: Will I be watching? I will be informed?
- 29:40Speaker 2: Huh, Look at her, she's really not into the show.
- 29:45Speaker 4: I think I will love for the season because her
- 29:48Speaker 4: being also the first Asian batcherette. I am very excited
- 29:51Speaker 4: about that. I am very proud of that. But I
- 29:55Speaker 4: don't know, like some of the girls, like they're so
- 29:57Speaker 4: into it. I'm trying to get there.
- 29:58Speaker 2: Is it safe to say you guys weren't really that
- 30:00Speaker 2: close in the house.
- 30:01Speaker 4: We weren't super close, but we did talk. I mean,
- 30:03Speaker 4: I think for me, I was like Switzerland in the house.
- 30:05Speaker 4: I could kind of talk to everybody. I was pretty neutral. Yeah,
- 30:09Speaker 4: and you know, we had a little discussion stuff. But
- 30:11Speaker 4: we never argued or bickered or anything. Yeah. Yeah.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Did you at all look at her cast and think,
- 30:17Speaker 2: oh man, I wish I were the bachelorette or are
- 30:19Speaker 2: you like, uh, I'm glad I wasn't the bachelorrette. I
- 30:21Speaker 2: wasn't going to find anyone in this bunch.
- 30:23Speaker 4: There's a couple. I said, that's a good one. Well
- 30:26Speaker 4: i'll say the name, but I was like, that's a
- 30:27Speaker 4: good one.
- 30:28Speaker 3: I guess that. I do have one more question than
- 30:30Speaker 3: if they would have asked you to be the bachelorette,
- 30:31Speaker 3: would you have said yes? Be honest?
- 30:36Speaker 4: You know, I went back and forth. So when I
- 30:39Speaker 4: was leaving when I was in the like when I
- 30:42Speaker 4: was being when tak me back to the hotel after
- 30:45Speaker 4: I didn't get my name was called. I was so
- 30:48Speaker 4: upset and I told the therapist and I said, don't
- 30:50Speaker 4: ask me to do anything for this show ever again.
- 30:52Speaker 4: I don't want to be involved in it. And she's like,
- 30:54Speaker 4: are you Are you sticking to that? And I was like,
- 30:56Speaker 4: I'm sticking to that. She's like, are you sure, because
- 30:58Speaker 4: I'm going to tell them and I was like, yeah,
- 30:59Speaker 4: I don't want be about to. I don't want to
- 31:00Speaker 4: be I p I don't do anything. And then two
- 31:02Speaker 4: weeks later I said, maybe overreacted. Maybe maybe maybe I
- 31:07Speaker 4: was just really sad. So I was iffy about it.
- 31:10Speaker 4: And I think they knew that. I think they knew
- 31:11Speaker 4: I didn't want to. I just I don't know. I
- 31:13Speaker 4: don't think I would have thrived. Also as a bachelor,
- 31:15Speaker 4: I would have been like, you're out, You're out. I
- 31:16Speaker 4: don't like you half have you gone? And you can't
- 31:19Speaker 4: do that. You have to keep like an amount of people.
- 31:22Speaker 4: And I think I would know if I didn't like
- 31:24Speaker 4: somebody to make it to the end.
- 31:26Speaker 2: N one, I think you would have been really good
- 31:29Speaker 2: but I definitely see what you're saying because I have
- 31:32Speaker 2: a personality like that too. I couldn't fake it.
- 31:35Speaker 4: Yeah, no, I can't figive I don't like you, You'll know,
- 31:37Speaker 4: You'll just know you. I won't kiss you.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Ben's like, I'm a good faker.
- 31:43Speaker 4: I'm a pro.
