- 0:00Speaker 1: After a riveting two minutes in the World Cup. Honestly
- 0:02Speaker 1: the most riveting couple of minutes in year two fifty
- 0:06Speaker 1: TM USA Baseball knocked out England in the World Baseball Classic. England,
- 0:13Speaker 1: it all goes well in the next few seconds, here
- 0:15Speaker 1: will not be coming to Mett Life Stadium. I'm sorry
- 0:18Speaker 1: New York, New Jersey to drive the World Cup and
- 0:22Speaker 1: on American soil, they'll be sent home. Sound familiar. Two
- 0:27Speaker 1: hundred and fifty years later and boy o boy Louis Terminello,
- 0:30Speaker 1: I was pretty hyped up there with Argentina that furious
- 0:34Speaker 1: two minutes there when they came back.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Alex, how are you, my friend? Yes, a furious two minutes.
- 0:44Speaker 2: That's that's England and the head coach Thomas Toogle really
- 0:54Speaker 2: blew the game in my opinion, once they took the
- 0:58Speaker 2: lead at the fifty five minute mark, and the first
- 1:00Speaker 2: half was very physical, chippy physical. You couldn't get any
- 1:05Speaker 2: continuity during the first half. It wasn't really a great
- 1:09Speaker 2: first half. England scored fifty five minutes mark a beautiful
- 1:13Speaker 2: goal Anthony Gordon, who had a very good World Cup,
- 1:18Speaker 2: put them ahead, and then for the next thirty five minutes.
- 1:22Speaker 2: England tried to they played as they used to say,
- 1:26Speaker 2: Katie bought the door. They tried they went through a
- 1:29Speaker 2: defensive shell. They went with you three center backs and
- 1:34Speaker 2: two fullbacks, and it worked against them. You know, Alex.
- 1:38Speaker 2: The best defense when you're trying to kill the clock's
- 1:43Speaker 2: having possession, and they never had possession those the last
- 1:46Speaker 2: half hour against the team with the players that Argentina has.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Those two late goals to reach the World Cup Final
- 1:59Speaker 2: is going to stick in the crawl of every fan
- 2:02Speaker 2: who roots for England, every analyst on the BBC and
- 2:08Speaker 2: I t V and Sky News and Sky Sports. This
- 2:12Speaker 2: is England's had some bad losses throughout the international play.
- 2:18Speaker 2: This is right up there, This is right up there
- 2:20Speaker 2: with them. This is a bad loss and they made
- 2:24Speaker 2: it easy for Argentina to come back. You know, uh,
- 2:28Speaker 2: when Fernandez scored in eighty five minutes, a beautiful shot,
- 2:31Speaker 2: and then Bernanda scored two minutes ut into stoppage time,
- 2:37Speaker 2: both beautiful passes by Messi. Uh, one with the right foot,
- 2:41Speaker 2: one with the left foot. The guy's just amazing. He
- 2:43Speaker 2: used the field so brilliantly. But I think this one
- 2:49Speaker 2: lands at the feet of the coach. I really, I
- 2:52Speaker 2: really think so. I mean, obviously we have to hear
- 2:55Speaker 2: more what what he what he thinks? I just heard
- 2:59Speaker 2: one thing at the end of the game saying that
- 3:01Speaker 2: England played their best game. No, they did, and they
- 3:03Speaker 2: played their best game in Mexico City when they were
- 3:06Speaker 2: down a man and they were able to win. You know,
- 3:08Speaker 2: I asked Kaka, But this is a loss that's going
- 3:11Speaker 2: to sting for a long long time. In the Great
- 3:13Speaker 2: Messy sixty five assists, most ever in international competition, has
- 3:18Speaker 2: a chance to play for back Tobacco World Cup Championships
- 3:23Speaker 2: on Sunday in the Meadowlands against the Spain, who was
- 3:27Speaker 2: totally dominant yesterday and it was only two nothings score,
- 3:31Speaker 2: but they totally choked off anything that France was trying
- 3:36Speaker 2: to do offensively. And France tries to play at a
- 3:39Speaker 2: faster pace. If you want to compare Spain to a
- 3:42Speaker 2: basketball team, Spain walks the ball up the field, you know,
- 3:46Speaker 2: they's that's what they do. But they were brilliant yesterday.
- 3:50Speaker 2: I mean France did not have a shot on golf
- 3:53Speaker 2: for the first seventy two minutes, that's how good their
- 3:58Speaker 2: defense was. And once they scored that goal the gold
- 4:01Speaker 2: one nothing. It was like it was two nothing. So
- 4:06Speaker 2: we have Spain and Argentina on Sunday at three o'clock
- 4:09Speaker 2: and it's going to be a tremendous.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Game, literally in our backyard, Louis. So that'll be fun.
- 4:13Speaker 1: And we all know the Times Square Red Steps are
- 4:15Speaker 1: going to be crazy with both fans at least into
- 4:18Speaker 1: the game, and of course Rockefeller Center with the soccer village.
- 4:22Speaker 1: I mean, the city's really amped up for this.
- 4:23Speaker 2: World Cup, alex This has been a tremendous World Cup.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Now you can't control what's happening on the field. And
- 4:30Speaker 2: the World Cup organizers for the United States, Canada and
- 4:35Speaker 2: Mexico obviously most of the games are played in the United States,
- 4:38Speaker 2: they couldn't ask for anything better. I mean, the fan
- 4:40Speaker 2: fest have been tremendously successful. I know there was a
- 4:44Speaker 2: lot of trepidation about that before the World Cup began.
- 4:50Speaker 2: The fans that have come from all over the world,
- 4:54Speaker 2: it's been a great, great stage for America. Everybody who come,
- 5:00Speaker 2: whether it's from Norway or England or Spain or Portugal,
- 5:05Speaker 2: said America is fantastic. You know, this is not what
- 5:08Speaker 2: we hear back in our country and the people are welcoming,
- 5:13Speaker 2: they're helpful, the police are great, the stores are great.
- 5:19Speaker 2: So this was definitely a good, you know, a good
- 5:23Speaker 2: display for America to put on, and they've done a
- 5:27Speaker 2: great job. We're going to have a great final on Sunday,
- 5:30Speaker 2: and you know we will. I don't know next time
- 5:36Speaker 2: we'll have one here in America. It can't be before
- 5:39Speaker 2: twenty thirty eight, of couse, four years from now, it's
- 5:42Speaker 2: going to be actually in six countries on multiple continents,
- 5:47Speaker 2: but mostly in Spain and Portugal and Morocco, and then
- 5:51Speaker 2: in twenty thirty four it's going to be in Saudi Arabia.
- 5:55Speaker 2: So enjoy enjoy it. Now, this has been great. I've
- 5:59Speaker 2: loved it. I have loved it. I really have thought
- 6:04Speaker 2: that these games were great. I know we wanted the
- 6:07Speaker 2: United States to to have gone a little farther, but
- 6:11Speaker 2: I think we I think they went where we thought
- 6:14Speaker 2: they were going to go. Alex, we had said that
- 6:16Speaker 2: they win the knockout game War two. We figured they'd
- 6:18Speaker 2: get through their group. Their group wasn't a killer group,
- 6:22Speaker 2: and they lost to a better Argentine I mean they
- 6:25Speaker 2: lost to a better Belgian team. You know, the United
- 6:29Speaker 2: States played terribly that first Belgium goal last week to
- 6:33Speaker 2: put them up on nothing. It looked like the US
- 6:35Speaker 2: back for looked like they were stuck in cement. They
- 6:38Speaker 2: couldn't complete the pass. I don't know if the moment
- 6:41Speaker 2: was too big for them. I would like to think not.
- 6:45Speaker 2: They never threatened Belgium during their run of play, you know,
- 6:48Speaker 2: and then they had the unfortunate Matt Frieze mistake, which
- 6:52Speaker 2: you know, clinched the game for Belgium. And you know,
- 6:55Speaker 2: everybody wants to know. Has us a soccer improved over
- 7:00Speaker 2: over the last twenty twenty five years. It has improved,
- 7:03Speaker 2: but not enough. There's no difference making stars. Yes, Polistic
- 7:10Speaker 2: is a very good player. He plays for one of
- 7:13Speaker 2: the most famous teams in the world. They see Milan
- 7:15Speaker 2: Valligans a very good player. You know, we have good
- 7:19Speaker 2: players playing on major international teams, but we don't have
- 7:24Speaker 2: we don't have the and I know he's arguably the
- 7:27Speaker 2: greatest player of all time. So it's a messy a
- 7:31Speaker 2: Ronaldo Mboppi people like that or anybody close to that.
- 7:38Speaker 2: And then until that happens, I think, you know, when
- 7:43Speaker 2: the see what we saw today and You got to remember, Alex,
- 7:47Speaker 2: the United State didn't have to qualify this year because
- 7:49Speaker 2: they were the home team. They got to qualify for
- 7:52Speaker 2: twenty thirty they got to qualify for twenty thirty four,
- 7:55Speaker 2: so they have some they have some work ahead of them.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Oh, they definitely do. I wouldn't look at that is disappointed.
- 8:04Speaker 1: I still think there was a good sign of them
- 8:06Speaker 1: winning for the first time since two in the knockout round.
- 8:09Speaker 1: But that game against Belgium felt win the ball didn't it.
- 8:15Speaker 2: I was self winnable because they had you know, they
- 8:17Speaker 2: had won against Bosnia Herzegovina. But I remember Belgium's number
- 8:22Speaker 2: one in FIFA rankings, Belgium's number nine in the world,
- 8:26Speaker 2: so it's not like we were playing a team that
- 8:29Speaker 2: we should have rolled over. But Alex, there's been twenty
- 8:33Speaker 2: two World Cups since nineteen thirty. There was none played
- 8:38Speaker 2: in in nineteen forty two or forty six because of
- 8:41Speaker 2: World War Two. So at the twenty two World Cups,
- 8:45Speaker 2: eight of them have been won. There's been only eight
- 8:49Speaker 2: winners eight teams. In Brazil, I think he's won five,
- 8:53Speaker 2: Italy's won four, West Germany's won three or four. Spain
- 8:59Speaker 2: if they went on, they'll they'll have one two and
- 9:03Speaker 2: England has won one. There they're the only If Spain wins,
- 9:08Speaker 2: they'll be the only team that's won one. So my
- 9:11Speaker 2: point being is not many teams has not been fifteen
- 9:15Speaker 2: winners in twenty two World Cups. The same powers win
- 9:19Speaker 2: all the time, and it shows you to get over
- 9:23Speaker 2: that hump. Even though even though being sixteens in the world,
- 9:26Speaker 2: everybody loved Norway, everybody loved Norway. Alex Noway was thirty
- 9:30Speaker 2: three in the FIFA rankings. That's seventeen ranking spots behind
- 9:36Speaker 2: the United States of America. So the United States has
- 9:40Speaker 2: made has made progress. But to get to that, to
- 9:44Speaker 2: get to where we want to be, they got they
- 9:50Speaker 2: got a waste to go. That's and it's you know,
- 9:54Speaker 2: see what happens ye years ago.
- 9:56Speaker 1: I mean, it looks like they have the talent to
- 9:58Speaker 1: go someplace just we we want to see that happen.
- 10:01Speaker 1: So we'll have to see. Now, obviously a team cannot qualify.
- 10:04Speaker 1: I'm sorry to say, but Italy was sort of a
- 10:06Speaker 1: shocking to not qualify. These things do happen. You know,
- 10:10Speaker 1: us may not qualify the next time around.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Absolutely, that's absolutely true. The only thing is if they
- 10:17Speaker 2: expanded to sixty four teams, which I am against. I
- 10:23Speaker 2: didn't you know, I didn't like it when I expand
- 10:25Speaker 2: to forty eight. But at least for this tournament, it
- 10:28Speaker 2: looks like they got it right. But if they do
- 10:33Speaker 2: expand it to sixty four teams, and I really hope
- 10:35Speaker 2: they don't, well that's going to help the United States.
- 10:38Speaker 2: It's going to help a lot of teams. I mean again, look,
- 10:42Speaker 2: Italy didn't qualify at least is fifteenth to TIFA rankings,
- 10:49Speaker 2: so should they have been in. They were just in
- 10:52Speaker 2: a tougher group. New York's a tougher group in qualifying
- 10:55Speaker 2: than than here at KUNKCASF. So you know that that's
- 11:02Speaker 2: some things that they have to look at. But one
- 11:04Speaker 2: thing they really have to look at, Alex they got
- 11:08Speaker 2: to try to make the off side rule more liberal.
- 11:13Speaker 2: We saw a lot of great goals that were wiped
- 11:17Speaker 2: out called back because a player was a head off side,
- 11:24Speaker 2: literally just his head or an arm off side. They
- 11:28Speaker 2: have to they got to do something to change that.
- 11:32Speaker 2: In the Canadian Premier Soccer League, it's probably a third
- 11:38Speaker 2: division type.
- 11:40Speaker 1: The fandom of the sport like does that just kill
- 11:42Speaker 1: the sport in the way.
- 11:45Speaker 2: You mean, if we liberate, liberate, let's tinger on it.
- 11:50Speaker 1: I think that kills the sport a little. But you
- 11:52Speaker 1: want to see these guys score goals.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Well, I mean, look at yesterday's semifinal game. Yamel scored
- 11:58Speaker 2: the nineteen year old Sensation scores for Spain on an
- 12:01Speaker 2: absolutely gorgeous goal. He was half a body off side.
- 12:06Speaker 2: I mean, if he was, it's got to be a
- 12:09Speaker 2: full body off side, Like I was just starting to say,
- 12:13Speaker 2: In the Canadian Premier League, they had their experimenting with
- 12:18Speaker 2: Fief's approval on a little bit more liberal off side
- 12:26Speaker 2: and seventeen goals that this was going into last weekend's
- 12:30Speaker 2: World Cup, seventeen goals that were called back in this
- 12:34Speaker 2: year's World Cup through last Saturday, if they used this rule,
- 12:37Speaker 2: this experimental rule that they're using in the Canadian League
- 12:41Speaker 2: would have counted. So I really think they got to
- 12:45Speaker 2: take a look at it because we've seen all We
- 12:46Speaker 2: saw a lot of beautiful goals that were wiped out
- 12:51Speaker 2: because the player was barely off side by an ankle,
- 12:57Speaker 2: by a toe. I mean, I think that hurts the game.
- 13:03Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying I think that's calling hurts the game.
- 13:07Speaker 1: And I tell you what, I still love when all
- 13:09Speaker 1: the crowds, no matter where you're at, you just get
- 13:11Speaker 1: excited at that goal. And you know, I agree with you.
- 13:13Speaker 1: They need to be a little more liberal, all right.
- 13:16Speaker 1: So I wanted to say one thing about the real
- 13:18Speaker 1: app is telling me now that Messi has a career
- 13:22Speaker 1: most goals twenty one and then most assists. I mean,
- 13:26Speaker 1: you can't top that, can you? Maybe with two back
- 13:29Speaker 1: to back.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Yeah, he's amazing. He's arguably a goat. He has sixty
- 13:35Speaker 2: five assists now in international play, the most in history.
- 13:41Speaker 2: And you know, everybody thought that the last World Cup
- 13:45Speaker 2: when they won in twenty twenty two, that he was
- 13:48Speaker 2: going to retire, and he hasn't, and he's continued to
- 13:52Speaker 2: play internationally for Argentina at a high level. And I
- 13:55Speaker 2: think going into the final, he's the most valuable player
- 13:58Speaker 2: in the tournament, not only that you know, Golden Boot candidate,
- 14:03Speaker 2: but he's the most most valuable poll around player in
- 14:08Speaker 2: the tournament. We'll see what happened Sunday. That could change
- 14:11Speaker 2: with a performance by somebody on Spain, but Messi's been
- 14:16Speaker 2: Messi he's been incredible.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Well, it'll be certainly be fun. And then fanatics. That's
- 14:23Speaker 1: is gonna be all fanatics. Fs is gonna be all
- 14:26Speaker 1: about the World Cup as well. So it's gonna be
- 14:27Speaker 1: a busy weekend here in the city. All Right, I know, Louis,
- 14:33Speaker 1: you're not a major, big fan of the All Star Game,
- 14:35Speaker 1: but the tribute to the same round, I don't know
- 14:37Speaker 1: you got a chance to see. That was pretty special.
- 14:39Speaker 1: The kids were biking on the field like that reenact
- 14:41Speaker 1: the whole thing. I love that.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, all right, you you're talking to a guy
- 14:47Speaker 2: who watched the All Star Game when the intensity was great.
- 14:53Speaker 2: I didn't watch the game. I mean, I had no
- 14:58Speaker 2: interest in it. Uh. And then I saw this morning
- 15:02Speaker 2: that eleven pitchers pitch the American League in the nine
- 15:05Speaker 2: inning game fifteen strikeouts. The game the game, okay, the
- 15:15Speaker 2: game is what it is. It's not the game that
- 15:18Speaker 2: I knew. Yes, I'm sure the entertainment was good, you know,
- 15:23Speaker 2: with the pregame introductions and you were saying that that
- 15:29Speaker 2: Sandlot skit, you know sometime during the game. I'm sure
- 15:32Speaker 2: they did other things during the game. And that's all
- 15:34Speaker 2: well and good and I'm not against that, but I
- 15:40Speaker 2: could tell you one thing when I was watching the
- 15:43Speaker 2: All Star Game, when both leagues wanted to cut their
- 15:47Speaker 2: heart out. If you gave Frank Robinson or Roberto Clemeni
- 15:51Speaker 2: or call you Shrimsky a mic and they're talking to
- 15:55Speaker 2: him during the game, he would rip that mic right
- 15:58Speaker 2: off and he would thrown into the stands. I'm telling
- 16:02Speaker 2: you that you did that on the malley.
- 16:06Speaker 1: I mean these Friday Apple games where they give up
- 16:08Speaker 1: a guy on microphone and the guy makes errors. By
- 16:10Speaker 1: the way, I don't be noticed that, but some of
- 16:11Speaker 1: these guys make errors on the field.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Yeah. Well again, it's not been a good five first
- 16:17Speaker 2: five months for Major League Baseball. It really hasn't. The
- 16:21Speaker 2: American League is horrendous. They only have five teams five
- 16:25Speaker 2: hundred and they had to rally that in the last
- 16:27Speaker 2: week to get there. The National League has ten. The
- 16:30Speaker 2: National League is better. I don't care what the All
- 16:32Speaker 2: Star gang says. The American League is down, like by
- 16:36Speaker 2: thirty five games in an interleague series. We know the team.
- 16:44Speaker 2: We know. Let's look at a team like the Yankees.
- 16:46Speaker 2: They're going to make the playoffs. We know that is
- 16:49Speaker 2: any Yankee fan really glue to the sets because we
- 16:56Speaker 2: even went out judge being there. They know that they're
- 16:59Speaker 2: going to make the playoff. I mean, they're not going
- 17:01Speaker 2: to finish under five hundred, and there's going to be
- 17:04Speaker 2: an emerging league team, maybe somebody who wins the division
- 17:07Speaker 2: in the Central or West that might win the division
- 17:11Speaker 2: under five hundred. I mean, I think that hurts. The
- 17:15Speaker 2: fact that the Mets stink, I think hurts major League Baseball.
- 17:18Speaker 2: The fact that the Red Sox aren't. I know they're
- 17:20Speaker 2: on nine game winning streak now, but the Red Sox
- 17:23Speaker 2: could not take last year's a good season and continue it. Alex,
- 17:34Speaker 2: the dopey World Baseball Classic might have been the highlight
- 17:37Speaker 2: for baseball in the first five months of the season,
- 17:40Speaker 2: and you know, I think it's the Baseball Classic is worthless.
- 17:43Speaker 1: I know now we have still changed and really got
- 17:47Speaker 1: people's eyes to pay attention, as in Swarber's World Baseball
- 17:51Speaker 1: Classic as well.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I mean that might be the highlight which
- 17:56Speaker 2: shows you how bad this baseball season's been.
- 17:58Speaker 1: However, however, I want to turn the page on that
- 18:01Speaker 1: and say, but also look at these unexpected stories, the
- 18:05Speaker 1: rise of the White Sox, this Japanese ACTA from Mirakami's
- 18:08Speaker 1: changed the whole thing. This Uh, this Christian, the rookie
- 18:13Speaker 1: that hitded walk off is first at bat, first game.
- 18:15Speaker 1: I mean, some of these things with the White Sox
- 18:17Speaker 1: look very promising. And then the A's look good as well.
- 18:19Speaker 1: I know they're dipping a bit, but you want those
- 18:22Speaker 1: kind of teams to make a rally here.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Well again, uh, the White Sox have done a great job.
- 18:29Speaker 2: And it's a shame that Murakhani got hurt because he
- 18:31Speaker 2: might have been pushing thirty five homes home runs and yes,
- 18:35Speaker 2: that would bring bring interest to the game. So that
- 18:37Speaker 2: was a bad break. The White Sox has done a
- 18:40Speaker 2: great job and they had a great draft. And but
- 18:46Speaker 2: again they're in the right division. If they were in
- 18:49Speaker 2: the National Geese, they'd be fifteen games at the first place.
- 18:55Speaker 2: But yes, but when you lose over one hundred games
- 18:59Speaker 2: three years in a row two years ago, set the
- 19:01Speaker 2: record all time for losses, and you are where the
- 19:04Speaker 2: White Sox are now, and they're drawing great crowds and
- 19:07Speaker 2: the fans, the White Sox fans can take the bags
- 19:11Speaker 2: off their head. It's a fantastic, fantastic plus for Major
- 19:15Speaker 2: League Baseball that the White Sox are back, there's no
- 19:19Speaker 2: doubt about it.
- 19:20Speaker 1: I agree, and I would say the.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Dodgers know they're going to win. The Dodgers are.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Maybe see their resurgence Connor Griffin, who did not make
- 19:27Speaker 1: the All Star Game, but I love what seeing that
- 19:30Speaker 1: kid play.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Yeah. No, I mean again, the Pirates have some nice
- 19:36Speaker 2: young players. Again, they're in the right division. You remember,
- 19:39Speaker 2: the American League Central and Nationally Central don't have any
- 19:42Speaker 2: big money teams in them, so you can compete in
- 19:46Speaker 2: both central divisions of the American and National League. But
- 19:52Speaker 2: there's been big disappointments Toronto coming off that they came
- 19:56Speaker 2: within an eyelash of winning a World Series they probably
- 19:59Speaker 2: should have won, and they were under five hundred in
- 20:02Speaker 2: the crappy American League, you know. So we'll see how
- 20:08Speaker 2: these last sixty.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Five get fired here.
- 20:12Speaker 2: He could. I mean, it's easy to fire the coach.
- 20:15Speaker 2: That's always the easy the easy out.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Now, let me ask you this. I don't think the
- 20:21Speaker 1: All Star Game starting lineup was not picked by the fans,
- 20:23Speaker 1: but by a manager. Would you be interested in that?
- 20:28Speaker 2: No, this is what this is what I want. I
- 20:30Speaker 2: want to be looked to like it was in nineteen
- 20:32Speaker 2: seventy when Jim Palmer and Tom Seaver, the two best
- 20:35Speaker 2: pitchers in baseball, starred the All Star Game at Riverfront
- 20:38Speaker 2: Stadium in Cincinnati, and they both pitched three innings. I
- 20:44Speaker 2: don't want I don't want to see eleven pitchers in
- 20:47Speaker 2: the nine inning game. I mean, first of all, you
- 20:52Speaker 2: can't get any continuity offensively when you're bringing up, especially
- 20:57Speaker 2: nowadays with these guys throwing ninety each of these guys
- 20:59Speaker 2: throwing ninety six ninety eight miles an hour and again
- 21:07Speaker 2: the American League, Hada, Nation League, and vice versa. In
- 21:09Speaker 2: the old days, the American League could, you could not.
- 21:12Speaker 2: It was ordered by the league presidence. Now there's no
- 21:15Speaker 2: longer league presidents. The league president of the American League
- 21:19Speaker 2: Lee McPhail. If you made the All Star Game, you
- 21:22Speaker 2: could not pitch on that Sunday. You couldn't before the
- 21:26Speaker 2: All Star Game because they might have needed you to
- 21:29Speaker 2: win on Tuesday. That's how important the freaking game was. Now.
- 21:35Speaker 2: You know, now it hasn't happened in the last four
- 21:37Speaker 2: or five years, but you know, you had Sammy Sosik
- 21:40Speaker 2: get his at bat, you had Jeter getting his at
- 21:42Speaker 2: bat and then leave, you know, leave the stadium and
- 21:45Speaker 2: go home or wherever they were going. William May's, Frank Robinson,
- 21:51Speaker 2: Carl Strimsky, Harmon, Killerbrew, Tom seaver. That's not happening, not happening,
- 21:58Speaker 2: just not happening. That's why I want to see, not
- 22:01Speaker 2: that I want to see Ray Fosse have his career
- 22:05Speaker 2: changed forever when he got knocked over by Pete Rose.
- 22:08Speaker 2: But they did not want to lose that game. When
- 22:12Speaker 2: Pete Rose went flying into him and broke his shoulder.
- 22:16Speaker 2: You'll never see that, all.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Right, Well, let me try and get Mike Trout and
- 22:24Speaker 1: it was going to see him back for the first time.
- 22:26Speaker 1: This is nineteen. That's the guy I'm happy for when
- 22:28Speaker 1: I see him leading off the All Star team, because
- 22:30Speaker 1: you know, he deserves better than he's got the last
- 22:32Speaker 1: ten to fifteen years.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Louis, Yes, Yes, he does. Yeah, mister Trout deserves better, and.
- 22:41Speaker 1: So I was happy to see him lead off. And
- 22:42Speaker 1: then of course the Yanks belly gets MVP. But we'll
- 22:46Speaker 1: see now the second part, not second half, second part
- 22:49Speaker 1: of the year is going to be interesting because he's
- 22:51Speaker 1: kicking off with the Yanks and Dodgers and we got
- 22:54Speaker 1: to talk about Otani because you think he might just
- 22:57Speaker 1: take out the pitching from his repertory. You think that's
- 22:59Speaker 1: gonna happen.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Well, I mean it's up to It's up to Dodger management. Uh,
- 23:05Speaker 2: I mean that's I think they're gonna come to a
- 23:08Speaker 2: point where it might be one or the other. I
- 23:12Speaker 2: mean two years ago, you know, he had fifty homers
- 23:15Speaker 2: and sixty stolen bases, but when he pitched it and
- 23:17Speaker 2: he didn't pitch two years ago because he was still
- 23:19Speaker 2: recovering from from Tommy John. And he hasn't run the
- 23:24Speaker 2: last two years like he did two years ago. So uh,
- 23:28Speaker 2: that's something that they're gonna have to look at. I
- 23:30Speaker 2: don't think he's gonna stop now. He's too good a pitcher.
- 23:35Speaker 2: I mean, he's done the tremendous job pitching. And you
- 23:39Speaker 2: know Dodgers are going through the motion. They're not gonna
- 23:41Speaker 2: pick play an important game until October and uh you
- 23:47Speaker 2: maybe see because they were in New York playing the Yankees,
- 23:51Speaker 2: and uh, I assume I know that that Friday night
- 23:55Speaker 2: is I mean Saturday nights on a Fox game, and
- 23:58Speaker 2: I assume.
- 23:59Speaker 1: That with your favorite high.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Even look, I would assume that the Sunday night game
- 24:04Speaker 2: is an NBC game, Uh, that that might incentivize them
- 24:10Speaker 2: a little bit this weekend, the Dodgers, but you know
- 24:14Speaker 2: they're not gonna play I mean that twenty fifteen games
- 24:17Speaker 2: in front of the Division fourteen wherever the heck is,
- 24:20Speaker 2: They're not going to be incentivized to play hard and
- 24:24Speaker 2: until October. And they're doing the same thing with de
- 24:26Speaker 2: pitching staff as they did last year. They're gonna baby
- 24:29Speaker 2: dead pitching staff. So when it comes to playoff time,
- 24:32Speaker 2: dead pitching staff is is the rotation is stacked and
- 24:36Speaker 2: ready to roll.
- 24:37Speaker 1: All right? I want to. I want to. And I
- 24:39Speaker 1: love Michael Kay. I think he's a decent guy. He's
- 24:42Speaker 1: he's you know, I'm mem around all the time. But
- 24:44Speaker 1: he asked a question to Joe Gurridy the other day saying,
- 24:47Speaker 1: should Cam Schlittler be moved to Monday against the Pirates
- 24:50Speaker 1: to not give the Dodgers any tips away in case
- 24:53Speaker 1: they can't get the World Series? No, have Schlittler pitch
- 24:56Speaker 1: on the over the weekend and he should have pitched
- 24:59Speaker 1: last night.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, no, Alex, on both I agree with you
- 25:04Speaker 2: on both on both of those points.
- 25:09Speaker 1: I agree with Nationals, and that's another team that's a
- 25:11Speaker 1: bit surprising, aren't they.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Yeah. No, they have a good offense, and obviously you know,
- 25:19Speaker 2: they don't have a good bullpen, and that's keeping them
- 25:23Speaker 2: there are. They're about three or four games out of
- 25:25Speaker 2: the last wild card and if they could make a
- 25:28Speaker 2: trade for a capable relief pitcher, they probably could. Think.
- 25:34Speaker 2: I think that's still the leading scoring team in the
- 25:36Speaker 2: National League, and they've been that way basically since day one.
- 25:42Speaker 2: They gotta get They just gotta get a better back
- 25:45Speaker 2: end of the bullpen, as you saw this weekend. If
- 25:47Speaker 2: they did, they probably they would have won at least
- 25:50Speaker 2: two out of three of those games against the Yankees.
- 25:54Speaker 2: And but I disagree with Michael Kay Schlitzler should pitch
- 25:59Speaker 2: against the Dogs, all right.
- 26:02Speaker 1: I want to get to the derby because everybody was
- 26:05Speaker 1: kind of ragging on uh Ben Rice for hitting only
- 26:08Speaker 1: seven homers. I don't care, Louis. I want to see
- 26:10Speaker 1: him thrive a Yankee stadium. That's where he's meant to thrive,
- 26:13Speaker 1: not lifting up a home run Derby trophy. I want
- 26:16Speaker 1: to see him lift up the Commissioner's trophy.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Well, I don't care about the Home Run Derby at all.
- 26:22Speaker 2: I didn't turn it on one second I heard it
- 26:25Speaker 2: was a very shaky production by Netflix. I don't want
- 26:28Speaker 2: to comment on it. I just heard it because I
- 26:30Speaker 2: didn't see it. Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it. I
- 26:34Speaker 2: wouldn't worry about it. Ben Y shouldn't be worrying about
- 26:37Speaker 2: hitting only seven home runs in a doopey U.
- 26:43Speaker 1: And obviously Philly gave it to everybody that wasn't in
- 26:45Speaker 1: the Philly Jersey last night, which was fun.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Well, I'm not against the Home Run Derby as All
- 26:52Speaker 2: Star Game entertainment, but it is what it is, you know.
- 26:57Speaker 2: I mean, it's basically it's a it's a glorified go
- 27:00Speaker 2: hitting contest.
- 27:02Speaker 1: True, that's one last thing on the derby though Jordan
- 27:05Speaker 1: Walker wins and silence is filly or whatever. But people
- 27:08Speaker 1: don't don't really realize the Cardinals are another team on
- 27:12Speaker 1: the come up here and they have a great talent
- 27:16Speaker 1: coming in twenty twenty six.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Yeah, the Cardinals have done a terrific job. Remember they
- 27:22Speaker 2: were supposed to be a ninety ninety five lost team
- 27:26Speaker 2: this year and they have They've done they have done
- 27:28Speaker 2: a tremendous job. And it's going to be interesting to
- 27:30Speaker 2: see how many teams at the trade deadline. There's so
- 27:34Speaker 2: many teams. I think in the American legue, there's nine
- 27:36Speaker 2: teams within three and a half games of the three
- 27:39Speaker 2: wild card spots top to bottom. How many of those
- 27:45Speaker 2: teams are going to try to improve How many of
- 27:48Speaker 2: those teams are just going to wave the white flag
- 27:51Speaker 2: even though they're close to a wild card, to dump
- 27:54Speaker 2: salary or to try to improve their team more for
- 27:58Speaker 2: the future than now. The trade deadline is going to
- 28:02Speaker 2: be very interesting, Alex, I really believe it is.
- 28:08Speaker 1: It's gonna be and we'll see what the medic I
- 28:10Speaker 1: think the yanksty to bolster multiple positions. But you know
- 28:14Speaker 1: what I'm gonna say here, and I said it on
- 28:15Speaker 1: my blog, that you're gonna notice enough tick of performances
- 28:18Speaker 1: from a guy like Austin Wells, from a Volpie, from
- 28:21Speaker 1: these guys whose positions or maybe or whose time with
- 28:24Speaker 1: the Yankees could be in jeopardy if they find that
- 28:27Speaker 1: they can get gash yoga and the Corey Sieger. Can
- 28:30Speaker 1: you imagine that?
- 28:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know how much Corey Seeger has left.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Maybe if he came to the Yankees. That might uh
- 28:41Speaker 2: give him a little bit of juice, but uh uh,
- 28:45Speaker 2: it's gonna be trades. We're gonna see trades, and we
- 28:48Speaker 2: might see some unusual trades at at the at at
- 28:51Speaker 2: the All Star Game. Is Struwball going to get traded?
- 28:54Speaker 2: What's he gonna get traded for? The Tigers obviously are
- 28:57Speaker 2: not gonna sign them. Uh so we'll see. You know
- 29:02Speaker 2: what everybody says to Metro, dump this guy and that guy.
- 29:04Speaker 2: But you all know something, with the exception of Luke Weaver,
- 29:07Speaker 2: who I would not trade, who has been spectacular and
- 29:10Speaker 2: who should have been on the All Star team. I
- 29:14Speaker 2: don't know how you go twenty four twenty five, a
- 29:18Speaker 2: straight games out, giving up an earned run and dot naked.
- 29:22Speaker 2: But you know, unless the Mets can get a significant
- 29:27Speaker 2: return for him, I would not trade Luke Weaver. He's
- 29:29Speaker 2: under contract. Again. I know these relief pitchers go up
- 29:32Speaker 2: and down, but you know, Freddy Parolta, he's been and
- 29:39Speaker 2: I thought it was a good acquisition. I was never
- 29:42Speaker 2: a huge Freddy Parolta fan, but other teams are desperate
- 29:47Speaker 2: for pitching. It's going to be interesting to see what
- 29:51Speaker 2: the Mets get from because he has been. He's been.
- 29:54Speaker 2: He's been he gets an f he's been a disaster,
- 29:58Speaker 2: and he's not been hurt. He's not been hurt like Polanco.
- 30:01Speaker 2: I like the Polanco pickup. I thought he was going
- 30:04Speaker 2: to be the DH but he's only played about sixteen games.
- 30:09Speaker 2: You know. That's so you can't you can't, you can't
- 30:12Speaker 2: judge him. We know, Robert h they're not going to
- 30:17Speaker 2: trade in because he's not playing. He might be back
- 30:19Speaker 2: in the next week. But again, I've never been a
- 30:22Speaker 2: Robert Finn. Yes, I know, his contracts up at the
- 30:24Speaker 2: end of the year, so the Mets aren't going to
- 30:25Speaker 2: resign them. And aj Ewing is better than him. Even
- 30:31Speaker 2: in his rookie year, we could see, we could see
- 30:34Speaker 2: his potential. But the worst free agents signed the Mets
- 30:37Speaker 2: ever made Alex David Stearns. Do you know that the
- 30:43Speaker 2: New York Mets have more people in their analytic department
- 30:47Speaker 2: than conventional scouts? That's no, that yeah, so you know,
- 30:57Speaker 2: again they tried to outsmart themselves and they you know,
- 31:02Speaker 2: that's why, you know, first basemen aren't important, and we
- 31:04Speaker 2: didn't need Alonzo. You know, Alonzo's fourteen the American League
- 31:08Speaker 2: in h in RBIs he's only five behind first. You know,
- 31:14Speaker 2: he's right up there too with you know, in home runs,
- 31:17Speaker 2: and I's fifth or sixth. You don't replace those guys,
- 31:21Speaker 2: Alex and I. You know, as one scout, excuse me,
- 31:26Speaker 2: one scout. I don't know if it was an American league,
- 31:27Speaker 2: but nasaling scout said, it's the worst organizational move in
- 31:32Speaker 2: twenty years now. I'm sure we can find other organizations
- 31:36Speaker 2: that have made similar terrible moves like that, But this
- 31:40Speaker 2: one was right in front of our face, and everybody
- 31:43Speaker 2: knew what was going to happen. But Sterns did it anyway.
- 31:46Speaker 2: He didn't even make him an offer. To me, that's
- 31:49Speaker 2: a fireable.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Offense, fireble and a slap in the face to Peter
- 31:53Speaker 1: Alonso and the met fan base, to be honest.
- 31:55Speaker 2: With you, absolutely.
- 31:59Speaker 1: All right, Well, I want to go into something because
- 32:02Speaker 1: I know we have some hockey fans. The schedule are
- 32:04Speaker 1: out now, and apparently they're gonna have an eighty four
- 32:08Speaker 1: game regular season, and the Rangers. Maybe you can tell
- 32:12Speaker 1: about the Devils, but the Rangers are and the Islanders,
- 32:16Speaker 1: by the way, but the Rangers are gonna open up.
- 32:18Speaker 1: If I read this correctly, on September twenty ninth in
- 32:22Speaker 1: Boston and then they're home opener except against the Lightning
- 32:25Speaker 1: October first. But they're moving it because there's an eighty
- 32:28Speaker 1: four game season. That's gonna be something new.
- 32:32Speaker 2: Yeah I am not. I'm not for an eighty four
- 32:34Speaker 2: game season, but this will give two more interdivisional games,
- 32:43Speaker 2: so you know, everybody will play to the four times
- 32:45Speaker 2: and says sometimes you only playing three, which makes no sense.
- 32:49Speaker 2: That's why they're doing it. I mean, I admit I
- 32:53Speaker 2: don't like it, but that's minor. It's a minor don't
- 32:58Speaker 2: like you know, I forgot who the Alums are opening
- 33:02Speaker 2: up against. They haven't announced the whole schedule. It was
- 33:04Speaker 2: just like the home openers or something. And the Devil's
- 33:09Speaker 2: made a good signing today. They signed Anthony Manta, who
- 33:13Speaker 2: scored thirty three goals for the Paying Wines of this year,
- 33:16Speaker 2: to a two year deal. And he should. He can
- 33:20Speaker 2: be on it anywhere on that top nine, whether it's
- 33:25Speaker 2: the maybeat up put them next to us, I don't know. Uh,
- 33:29Speaker 2: maybe he'll he'll be on the third line, May'll be
- 33:31Speaker 2: on the second line. I have no idea. But it
- 33:33Speaker 2: was a good It was a good. It was a
- 33:36Speaker 2: good signing for them, two years, nine point five million dollars.
- 33:42Speaker 2: I think that that's a good move for the Devil.
- 33:46Speaker 2: He's big, he's six', five like two twenty five and The.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Devil The devil's needs a little. Size it looks like
- 33:56Speaker 2: that they're out of The Connor hellibuk race because it
- 33:59Speaker 2: looks Like Connor hellibuck is going to be traded And
- 34:04Speaker 2: buffalo And carolina And florida seemed to be the three
- 34:08Speaker 2: destinations that pop up the. Most it looked like On
- 34:11Speaker 2: Draft night That buffalo was very close to Getting hellibuck
- 34:17Speaker 2: in the trade With. Winnipeg hellibuck has five years left
- 34:20Speaker 2: on his, deal so you're going to have to give.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Up you're gonna have to give up something of significance
- 34:27Speaker 2: to get. Him it's not like he's going to be
- 34:29Speaker 2: a free agent next year and the team acquiring him
- 34:35Speaker 2: has a team trading him over a. Barrel so it's
- 34:37Speaker 2: going to be. Interesting BUT i would say it's going
- 34:40Speaker 2: to be surprising If Connor hellbuck is with The Winnipeg
- 34:44Speaker 2: jets On Opening. Night and the other big thing news
- 34:47Speaker 2: today Was Steve eiserman surprisingly resigns as general manager of
- 34:54Speaker 2: The Red wings obviously is a Red wing, icon you,
- 34:58Speaker 2: know one of the greats of all, time not only
- 35:00Speaker 2: for The Red wings but in The League hall of,
- 35:03Speaker 2: fameer three Times Stanley cup, winner gold medalist For Team,
- 35:07Speaker 2: canada so that was. Surprising and Again Dylan larkin has
- 35:15Speaker 2: asked to be traded AND i don't know if that
- 35:17Speaker 2: had something to do with him, resigning but we'll see
- 35:21Speaker 2: where he ends.
- 35:22Speaker 1: UP i, mean And Maclin salabrini is now on the
- 35:25Speaker 1: cover of twenty seven but pointing because he is a
- 35:31Speaker 1: Red wing legend and whenever something like this, happens it's
- 35:35Speaker 1: a lott sad because he was a hero over.
- 35:37Speaker 2: There, absolutely but, Well Stevie, eiserman that's the business of sport, man.
- 35:46Speaker 1: It's being a business at least THIS. Gm Chris drury
- 35:50Speaker 1: has now. Resigned Branden schneider a rare not let. Go
- 35:53Speaker 1: obviously keeping him is a big deal to me because
- 35:56Speaker 1: he's one of the core of the team they. Have
- 35:58Speaker 1: and then they did, lockin so a little more action
- 36:01Speaker 1: on The rangers.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Front, yes they locked. In smith's The island is locked
- 36:07Speaker 2: in There number, One gustafan he won't play with them
- 36:11Speaker 2: next year maybe towards the, end and, uh you, know,
- 36:18Speaker 2: we'll you, know, we'll we'll see what. Happens But september twenty,
- 36:22Speaker 2: Ninth Opening knight's going to be, here earliest opening night,
- 36:25Speaker 2: ever triple header ON, espn AND i think the next,
- 36:29Speaker 2: NIGHT i think it might be a triple header ON.
- 36:32Speaker 2: Tnt so a lot of hockey coming fast and. Furious
- 36:36Speaker 2: so and that's a good.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Thing we like, that we absolutely. Do and of course
- 36:40Speaker 1: our Guy Kenny albert will be covering a lot of
- 36:42Speaker 1: that and calling a lot of the. Action But, louis
- 36:45Speaker 1: before you know, it we will be AT nfl training
- 36:48Speaker 1: camp and THEN nfl as. Well how do we get
- 36:51Speaker 1: to the middle Of july and and and The Midsummer
- 36:54Speaker 1: classic's done, now so time is going to go, faster.
- 36:58Speaker 2: It, Is AND i know that that's start in nine,
- 37:01Speaker 2: days it's hard to. Believe i'm sure The giants will
- 37:04Speaker 2: also start either day, before day. After it's. Crazy and
- 37:11Speaker 2: then you, know once we get To Labor, day it's
- 37:14Speaker 2: six months of six months of just everybody colliding, baseball, basketball, football,
- 37:22Speaker 2: hockey college, basketball college FULL.
- 37:25Speaker 1: Chrisp, BEAR i love, it and at For.
- 37:29Speaker 2: Chris baar, Yep and maybe you're not gonna have to
- 37:32Speaker 2: change our clocks.
- 37:33Speaker 1: ANYMORE i Know i'm hearing about that. Too we'll have
- 37:36Speaker 1: to see how that. Goes BUT i hear they've reached both,
- 37:39Speaker 1: houses Right house And.
- 37:40Speaker 2: Senate, yeah it looks it looks like it it has
- 37:45Speaker 2: the BEST i guess it has the best chance of.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Passing then it's, uh it's ever. Had so we'll see
- 37:51Speaker 2: where that. Goes, well it.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Will be interesting if that, happens and it'll be different
- 37:56Speaker 1: because normally we're used to like five o'clock being.
- 37:59Speaker 2: Dark, yes, yeah, NO i could gone either way with
- 38:04Speaker 2: the uh uh with the time. Change you, know you
- 38:07Speaker 2: get used to. It but IF i had to choose,
- 38:10Speaker 2: ONE i like it being a little lighter, Later so.
- 38:15Speaker 1: So DO i absolutely correct on, that and even in the,
- 38:18Speaker 1: cold it would be kind of interesting with a little
- 38:19Speaker 1: more like, yes all, Right, louis we'll see what happens.
- 38:22Speaker 1: There but as, always thanks for joining me and giving
- 38:25Speaker 1: your take on everything going. On and you know, WHAT
- 38:27Speaker 1: i know we'll have a show before the trade, deadline
- 38:29Speaker 1: but we got to keep our eyes peeled the next
- 38:31Speaker 1: couple of. Weeks he who's, performing who's not, performing and
- 38:34Speaker 1: who's on the.
- 38:34Speaker 2: Block, yes, ABSOLUTELY i think there's going to be one
- 38:38Speaker 2: or two eye. Openers i'm gonna say we didn't think
