Latest / Out of Bounds with Bo Bounds / Tom Luginbill talks Alabama QBs & DeBoer taking risks.
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: How much risk is Kaitlin de Borr and Alabama taken
- 0:03Speaker 1: by kind of waiting on and rolling out Keelan Russell
- 0:07Speaker 1: and or Austin Mack, neither who had played. I know
- 0:11Speaker 1: Austin has weighted, has bided his time, but still Bama
- 0:15Speaker 1: wants to win now and getting punked by Indiana is
- 0:18Speaker 1: not what they want, even though they got into the
- 0:20Speaker 1: second round of the College football playoffs. How much risk
- 0:23Speaker 1: is that for Kaylin to Borr in Alabama?
- 0:25Speaker 2: Luke's I actually think it's minimal. And I say that
- 0:29Speaker 2: because I don't think it was a great transfer portal
- 0:32Speaker 2: quarterback class top to bottom. Okay, and you know when
- 0:37Speaker 2: you've got guys like Keilan Russell, who they've invested in
- 0:39Speaker 2: and developed and is really really talented, more talented than
- 0:44Speaker 2: Austin Mack and a little bit more dynamic, I think.
- 0:46Speaker 2: But Austin Mack too has been in that system, he's
- 0:48Speaker 2: been in that program. They know what they're going to
- 0:49Speaker 2: get out of him. I think you're weighing risk by saying, Okay,
- 0:53Speaker 2: do we go out and get an unknown who has
- 0:55Speaker 2: or has not played, especially if we're not in love
- 0:58Speaker 2: with anybody, But we got these two guys here that
- 1:00Speaker 2: we know an awful lot about that we think are
- 1:01Speaker 2: talented and can take the next step. I also think
- 1:06Speaker 2: that retooling the offensive line, getting new leadership from a
- 1:10Speaker 2: from a coaching perspective, that's going to play a big
- 1:12Speaker 2: role for Alabama too. They can't they can't do what
- 1:15Speaker 2: they did last year, where they go into every single
- 1:17Speaker 2: game and everybody in the stadium knows that they can't
- 1:19Speaker 2: run the football, right, that's just that. That's not now
- 1:22Speaker 2: when you have a guy like ty Simpson that could
- 1:24Speaker 2: that could compensate for that because he was really really good,
- 1:27Speaker 2: and I would argue really really good considering that he
- 1:32Speaker 2: kind of had to do it all on his own,
- 1:35Speaker 2: you know, that was kind of an eraser for them.
- 1:37Speaker 2: But with limited experience, you may not necessarily have that.
- 1:40Speaker 2: So the run game, I think is every bit as
- 1:44Speaker 2: pivotal to the development of those quarterbacks and how fast
- 1:47Speaker 2: they come along is anything else.
