- MARK HAYES (00:02.155) All right, ladies and gentlemen, welcome back. Another exciting edition of Two Minute Black and White Gunplay at the top of our news today. Eight children dead in Shreveport, Louisiana. I'm Mark Hayes, your host for Two Minute Black and White. and Ellis Joinsby now for the beautiful confines just outside New York City. All right, Brock, let's get right into it. We're just a couple of guys looking through today's political climate through our respective community lenses, black and white. eight Children killed in Massachusetts. Will anything be done? Doesn't matter what community it is. Black, white, brown doesn't matter. Well, Brock Ganeles (00:42.446) Absolutely not. It down in Louisiana that the kids got killed. But they all blend together, right? Tree fart, you had a shooting overnight in Iowa around the campus, five kids, no, not kids, maybe young adults injured. None have died yet there. MARK HAYES (00:46.377) Yeah, Shreveport. Brock Ganeles (01:00.718) Yeah, like you had said, yeah, that Virginia lieutenant governor the other day kills his wife and himself. But the Shreve Point one is like the worst, right? It's kids, you know, one year old up to 14 year old. We want anything to be done. We know the answer to that. The answer is no. When the the country ignored the shootings at Sandy Hook, we made a resounding statement that there is no bridge too far when it comes to guns. Gun rights are more important than human rights. MARK HAYES (01:09.791) It's awful. MARK HAYES (01:24.595) Right. To the gun lobby. Brock Ganeles (01:29.774) Parkland tried to stir up a counter movement. a lot. Those kids got a lot of following great protests and moderate if any change. MARK HAYES (01:39.307) Mm-hmm. MARK HAYES (01:45.835) All right, Brock, check this out. CBSnews.com. All right, not the most respected source lately, but you go, Shreveport shooting, Iowa shooting, one dead in Sandy Springs shooting, man wounded in shooting in Long Beach, woman killed, three injured after disturbance in North Dallas. Brown University deserved better. Nothing but shootings and nothing is being done. This is one day. This is one day. We are the wild, wild fucking West. No one cares that our future leaders are being gunned down on a regular basis. Our children. Brock Ganeles (02:32.107) No one cares. And I think even less will be done about it now than previously. Yeah. I mean, it probably won't even get talked about that there's the possibility of change on this topic. Won't even come into the discussion because everyone knows we're so far away from that. mean, Trump needs that MAGA base. He needs that hardcore second amendment. You know. MARK HAYES (02:38.153) Normally, right. Brock Ganeles (03:00.317) zealots on his side. He's not going to even whisper anything that could possibly get them out of his shrinking base. So it's going to get ignored left and right. There's no GOP controls everything right now. It won't even come to the floor. There'll be a couple of speeches, maybe somewhere. I haven't even seen many thoughts and prayers texts. I don't even think we do the thoughts and prayers anymore. MARK HAYES (03:01.291) Right. MARK HAYES (03:25.759) Why? Why? They're not being answered. I know I'm a God-fearing man. I believe in prayer. I believe prayer works. Well, wow. No one's God is answering this. And it keeps going on. The good guy with the gun mantra. Where is he? Where was he? When that one-year-old was being murdered, when that 14-year-old was being slaughtered. And this was all domestic, Brock. And you know what the domestic? begins with money issues, family issues, struggle, right? Joblessness, right? All the things that are happening, not enough money to go around. If those eight kids are siblings, can you imagine what it's like trying to feed them now with the cost of living and how it's gone up exponentially over the last 16 months when... Cheadle Mussolini said that he was gonna lower the cost of everything. They probably voted for him, hoping he would lower the cost of everything. But family issues at the root of this shooting. Brock Ganeles (04:35.981) There's no doubt as finances, people's quality of life goes down, their finances get more difficult, the national mood moves into decline, more people struggling that tempers anger. Dispond and starts to bubble over and you get more people who are you know less stable and could kind of go either way Will tip to the side of violence because of just the you know kind of the desperation And so I think more likely to see an uptick in not only this kind of domestic violence, I'm expecting to see an uptick in crime because as people get more desperate, they're going to take shit, right? You do things, you know, armed robbery. MARK HAYES (05:18.623) Yeah? Yes! Yeah. MARK HAYES (05:27.775) Yeah, yeah. As we know, I'm very familiar with the state prison system here in Georgia, having a son that's incarcerated. And one of the stories that he shared with me a couple of years ago was a gentleman who got 10 years for armed robbery because he said he had a gun and he stole formula and diapers. Formula and diapers 10 years. So this is the kind of these are the kind of desperate moves we're gonna see because People have no choice right when you have a child at home that needs diapers or formula and you've got nothing but lint in your pocket What are you gonna do? You're gonna go to the dollar general you know, you're go to the general store and figure out how to get it grab it and run out and You know what? I don't condone it, but I understand. Right? And then here you have, you know, Bill Cassidy, right? One of the biggest clowns on Capitol Hill, Senator from Louisiana says his heart is with the Bozier Shrevecork community as we mourn innocent lives lost this morning. not the typical thoughts and prayer. little more, a little more thought in this one. You know, he just, nice line from him. You know, and he's one of the chief MAGA goons out here cosigning on all the Trumpery. Brock Ganeles (07:01.933) I mean, this, along with income inequality, all these aspects of American society, these dynamics that are going on right now, to me, all make for a less safe environment. So like the law and order crew MAGA, which thinks they're all about the bullshit of their bullshit, know, mantra of law and order actually creates the conditions. MARK HAYES (07:04.887) yeah. MARK HAYES (07:16.543) Yep. Yep. Brock Ganeles (07:29.665) for more violence and more civil unrest. I kind of been surprised that we haven't seen more of it in year one of Trump 2.0 as he was taking things from people, right? Because so much has been taken from people, taking people's food stamps away. What do you expect them to fucking do? Starve on their front porch or MARK HAYES (07:53.898) Right. Brock Ganeles (07:55.842) Why would you be surprised if they go to the dollar general and steal some shit with a gun, with guns so easy to get? We would all do that if we got to that level of desperation, if we were staring at our kids. MARK HAYES (08:07.252) Yes! Brock Ganeles (08:10.445) crying because they had no food in their stomachs. We wouldn't care about the rules of society. We wouldn't care about the laws, right? We would go down to just survival instincts. What do I need to do to keep my loved ones alive? And we would commit crimes. We would. We're not better than that. We are. We are all that. Maybe that is, you know, what we all should be right. That should be our number one priority. MARK HAYES (08:18.463) No. MARK HAYES (08:31.293) Right. Right? MARK HAYES (08:36.746) Right? Brock Ganeles (08:39.851) I don't know what triggered the shootings in Louisiana. We don't know yet. It tends to be in a strange couple, you know, like you said, whether it's child care payments or everyone's losing their job and there's not enough money to go around. And then it just, you know. sets someone off. Usually the man, right? The men tend to be the more violent ones and they tend to be the perpetrators. It's probably what the story is going to be. We'll let it unfold, but that'll probably be the story. The Virginia story was a family being broken up and the man tipping off the deep end and getting violent, killing his ex-wife. Iowa, a bunch of young kids, who knows? MARK HAYES (09:05.898) Right? Brock Ganeles (09:27.019) just an argument popping off what maybe would have used to been a fist fight or some pushing and shoving, but now there's guns and probably someone had one and just made it really easy for that violence to escalate. MARK HAYES (09:35.263) everywhere. MARK HAYES (09:41.311) Yep. by the way, Brock, 10 people shot in Chicago this weekend. The victims range in age from 17 to 46. So it's everywhere. There are no boundaries, but there are no social programs either to address it. So, you you want to get people off the streets. You want to get people, you know, to put down the weapons. Educate them. Get them some education. Brock? Remember when we were in high school and we had the, the BOCES program, you can go over there and learn a trade, right? Learn how to be a plumber, electrician, right? Go over there and get certified. What was it called? Board of Co-operational Educational Services. Those programs don't exist anymore, bro. They got rid of them. Too expensive. Right now. Where do those kids go? Not everybody goes to college. Not everybody wants to. And not everybody has a hookup at the electrician's union. Right? Like, not everybody has a hookup at the plumber's union. Those are good jobs. They pay very well. You are incredibly skilled when you wire homes. When you're plumbing new builds in new homes, when you're repairing plumbing in an existing home, you have to be incredibly skilled. That's why they charge what they charge. Why aren't we teaching people how to get those? Some of these shooters could be plumbers, barbers, electricians, lawn care specialists, horticulturists. Why don't we have these programs available? You know, why aren't these two year schools free? We're the only country where education becomes, we're the only industrialized country where education becomes unaffordable. Take a look at a school like Boston College. What is it, 95,000 for tuition? Right, on the regular. We got HBCUs that are 55, 60K. Brock Ganeles (11:44.365) They're increasingly unaffordable. Yeah. MARK HAYES (11:53.66) HBCUs, but they're trying to keep up with the cost of doing business in higher education. MARK HAYES (12:04.905) I think education is the answer, Brock Ganeles (12:07.981) all these through lines are connected, right? They're just all connected. It's just a better educated society tends to be a, you know, in essence, happier society, but also a wealthier society. Quality of life goes up. It tends to be a healthier society because there's better health care services that can be afforded. There's just more MARK HAYES (12:10.443) You're right. Right. MARK HAYES (12:28.585) Yep. Brock Ganeles (12:36.637) As it's a better economy, which generates more tax revenues, which provides more social services, and it all goes circular. Like why we're always arguing and fighting for tax cuts, tax cuts, tax cuts. That's the grand answer. No, that's not the grand answer. The grand answer is actually government that works better and provides more services. MARK HAYES (13:01.909) Right. Brock Ganeles (13:02.069) Not that we're always starving the government. That's been the MAGA bullshit Republican argument our entire lives. Small government with small government. Well, now we have the smallest government we've ever seen because Trump let Doge cut it to the bone and we have the worst government we've ever seen. It's not a surprise that People who think government sucks, suck at government. And it's just not the answer. You need good social services. You need smart planning around your entire society. And without that, we're falling behind on all fronts, right? From the top, we're our best scientists. MARK HAYES (13:27.722) Brock Ganeles (13:42.944) are leaving the country because we're cutting back, whether it be NIH or other government programs. So they're going to other countries. So other countries are going to have the most talented people. We're going to be left with the least talented people from that top all the way down to the bottom where there's, you know, we got no safety net anymore. We're letting people starve. We're letting people go homeless. We're doing nothing for people right now. We're not educating people like we're doing. Absolutely nothing on to the auspices of well, we need to cut taxes, of course For the wealthiest first and foremost those that are already doing the best I guess it's such a backward bullshit argument. It doesn't work. We're watching it not work. We're watching it fucking fail MARK HAYES (14:21.226) Right. Right. Right. MARK HAYES (14:31.422) Yep, in real time, in real time, and no one is up in arms about it. The cost of everything is up, And he doesn't care what he's doing to Americans. There are actually travel warnings to come to the United States. Other countries are posting travel warnings. Beware of the gunplay. They shoot like hell over there. mean, isn't that enough to make you stop and say, whoa, the rest of the world thinks we are violent AF? Isn't that enough to make you want to do something? But no, what do we do? We go out and start a bullshit war to protect a bunch of pedophiles. Speaking of which, are the talks continuing? Have we ended the war yet? Are there negotiations going on? What's the latest on the strategy? Brock Ganeles (15:33.07) We're lost, right? We're sending somebody that I guess JD Vance got pulled off of the pulled out of the starting lineup of negotiations, but who's left? Jared's still running around. Jared, who's literally on the payroll of Saudi Arabia, is still running around, unelected, not confirmed by Senator Congress, just president's son-in-law running around the Middle East, still like the lead pony in our talks. and we're just getting played, right? We're getting laughed at with these Lego, with these Lego videos, which are funny. They're doing a good job. We're being mocked. Mix tapes. MARK HAYES (16:08.814) Hey, those are mixed tapes. Brock Ganeles (16:13.261) We're being we're being mocked by Iran. We bombed the shit out of them. But now we're being mocked by them. And they now have come to realize that they actually control the Strait of Hormuz and can control it. And by controlling it, they can manipulate the entire global economy. So they've kind of come to realize they had more power than they even thought thought about. Like they don't way ahead of getting a nuclear weapon. They now wield all the MARK HAYES (16:41.737) Right. Brock Ganeles (16:43.215) this economic power and they're just going to bleed us. They're just sitting there watching our population get more and more pissed off that their gas prices are through the roof. they're, they, they're winning now the longer term strategy because we're feeling the pain and they know eventually we're going to get more and more angry and stop shooting each other and start looking at Trump as the idiot in charge. MARK HAYES (16:49.481) laughing. MARK HAYES (17:12.466) Right. But you know... Brock, if pedophilia doesn't do it, what, mean, where's the tipping point for this guy? You know, I'm really starting to believe it is a cult because you can't do all the things he's done and you can't justify any of the shit he's done. The sexual assault, the emoluments. Brock, how much money has he made in 16 months as president? So for a billion, isn't he? I mean, geez. Brock Ganeles (17:45.32) way over with the crypto with the crypto games he's made. MARK HAYES (17:47.07) With the crypto? Yes! I mean I'm still pissed off about the plane from the Qataris. What was that 400 million? Brock Ganeles (17:55.725) 400 million. MARK HAYES (17:57.471) You know, he had a piece of shit playing before he became president. Now he's got that thing. Right. Plus we don't know how many payouts he's getting now or after his term is done. What kind of deals he's negotiated for 2029. I mean, it's broad daylight. Brock Ganeles (18:18.881) Which gets me back to the other question is like, why is it difficult for the Democrats to craft the message? It seems to like write itself, right? How is it not an easy message to say the country has become, the country is corrupt? The country is absolutely lost and backward in the international forum where we've lost all our allies and now are fighting really expensive, stupid wars that are hurting the American consumer. MARK HAYES (18:57.352) right. Brock Ganeles (18:59.081) And along the way, our economy is also in decline as you, American public, are feeling every single day. You feel it at the gas pump. You feel it at the grocery store. You feel it anytime you touch anything in the healthcare system. Your lives are getting worse. I just don't... How is... MARK HAYES (19:17.566) Yep. Yep. Brock Ganeles (19:24.779) You know, and then the last part of the message is you can't vote for these MAGA Republicans anymore and you need to get your first you need to give us the Congress and then you got to get Trump out of there. But it seems like a really easy message that just about every American can digest and understand pretty easily. MARK HAYES (19:41.265) Right. You would think so. You would think. But it's not getting done. And in the meantime, there's no plan, no strategy, no exit strategy. And our soldiers are hungry. Right? Because logistics don't matter. Right? You don't get those MREs over there just in a blink of an eye. This is not I dream of Jeannie. Right? Like, can't just blink them over. I mean, how do we put our people in harm's way like this, expect them to fight a battle like this, you know, a religious war, right, against religious zealots on an empty stomach. Somebody help me understand. You Jesus, take the wheel. Like, what are we doing? Brock Ganeles (20:35.945) It just shows the incompetence, right? Our troops are in the theater of war and our Department of Defense slash war didn't have the planning and the logistics in place literally to feed the soldiers that they put into the theater of war. So to me, it's just one of those other like glaring examples of incompetence because not only we're putting, you know, zealots in these seats and Trump acolytes, but for the most part we're putting MARK HAYES (21:03.956) Right. Brock Ganeles (21:05.929) in incompetence. You got Jared and Witkoff as our diplomats incompetent. You have Hegseth running the war incompetent. You have Tulsi Galbert in charge of our intelligence incompetent. Right? asset. So MARK HAYES (21:12.937) Right. MARK HAYES (21:23.919) Russian asset and Russian asset. Brock Ganeles (21:30.379) We won't, maybe we'll leave Cash Patel for another time, but like he's apparently another alcoholic who doesn't show up to meetings. So. MARK HAYES (21:38.903) Hehehehehe Brock Ganeles (21:41.418) It's just laying out the flat out incompetence, which on the domestic side, we're okay with it. Sometimes it's good. Like Kristi Noem's incompetent. Good. Well, maybe ICE can't be as detrimental because she sucks so much, but we're out fighting foreign wars. You need competence. You need someone who knows logistics to get the meals to the soldiers who are sitting there in the theater of war. What's more distracting than being hungry? MARK HAYES (21:46.09) Right. MARK HAYES (22:09.156) Nothing, absolutely nothing. And it's a shame that the world's most prestigious military force can't eat while they're in the theater of battle. That is a, it should be criminal. That should be criminal. The fact that you're not feeding our soldiers because you didn't plan properly should be a criminal act. Because now you're putting them in harm's way. Right? And you're making their job even more difficult. There it's already enough that they got to fight an enemy. That's that's out of its mind crazy Right and now you're talking about You know putting troops on the ground hungry troops on the ground You know against 90 million people that hate you Shouting death to the infidel Come on, bro. Now the Iranian Navy has reimposed Right the restrictions on transit through the street I mean it's a mess. It's a mess. Those ships are turning around again and heading back. So that means goods and goods are going to go up right. It's not just gas. It's fertilizer. It's all the stuff that's coming through there. Brock Ganeles (23:34.009) You are a wrench figured out this is a game they can play open it, close it, you know, just, yeah, insert fuckery into the whole thing. Don't let anyone plan. So therefore, I mean, they've, we've given them a power. They didn't even know they had before this war started. And now they're like kind of realizing that they have this element of control. MARK HAYES (23:38.398) Yep. Mixtape. MARK HAYES (23:55.647) Right. MARK HAYES (24:00.97) Right. Brock Ganeles (24:01.942) And we've literally made them a more powerful country in this war. And we don't have a way out of it, an elegant way out of it, a way out of it where Trump doesn't look like the worst leader in world history. So somebody crafty is going to have to come up with a way where Trump can pretend like he won and get us out of there. And it's really tricky because it's hard to spin any kind of victory. Regass it like $4.30. MARK HAYES (24:32.232) when you leave. Right and you're tucking tail and you're pulling your troops out and iran is dropping mixtapes laughing at you for leaving Because that's what they're going to do as soon as we pull the troops out. They're going to make another one of those lego mixtapes and murder us And we're going to be looking stupid and you know, it's it's It's just so ridiculous and and again the epstein files have gone away Nobody's talking about it. Blanche is happy as a hippo in muddy water and they're still getting away with it. They're still getting away with Brock Ganeles (25:17.942) Mark, you think Mag is seeing those mixtapes or they're just not on their feed and no one on Fox is mentioning or anyone on the right link? You think they're totally insulated from it so they haven't seen any of it? They don't see basically the world laughing at us. MARK HAYES (25:26.546) No, they're not yet. It's not in their ecosystem. MARK HAYES (25:34.771) Right, right. But again, they don't have a worldview. See, that's the problem here is MAGA is so zip code oriented, right? They never leave those areas except to go to a rally if there's one, you know, within a couple of hours and they can get their pickup to it, get the dually down the street to it, right? Those are the, that's when they leave the zip code. They're not traveling so they don't care. about things that affect travelers. They don't travel for business. So they don't care about the TSA workers, right? They're not reading or watching anything except, you know, the Trumpkins on these crazy OAN, Newsmax, Fox broadcasts. So they're getting nothing but crazy. Brock Ganeles (26:27.822) Do you think they're getting the story on the eight kids shot in Louisiana though, right? They're getting that story. But are they reacting to that with, those kids should be armed? Like what's their, who's the good guy, who's supposed to be the good guy with the gun there? Like the five year old, seven year old, the neighbor. MARK HAYES (26:32.584) Yeah, yeah, they got that, but. MARK HAYES (26:44.862) Yeah, the neighbor, it's the neighbor's fault. Yeah, why didn't the neighbor come over and save those kids? Right, if the neighbor had had a gun, know, four of those kids be alive. Brock Ganeles (26:58.946) Got to be pretty quick. MARK HAYES (27:00.586) Come on Brock, I mean it's just, it's like everything else. We saw good guys with guns at Uvalde. Right, what'd do? Right? We saw I mean look, you know people don't want to confront People crazy people with ar-15s If you've ever heard an ar-15 go off, it's like it's like a cannon at one of those football games If you ever you know how they blow the cannon at the football games. That's what an ar-15 sounds like Brock Ganeles (27:36.14) Yeah. I've never heard an AR-15. I've never been in the vicinity. MARK HAYES (27:42.609) It will scare the living lights out of you. I heard it on a gun range and I had to go over to the guy and say, what is that? Because I had no idea. And my son was shooting a Desert Eagle. And I'm like, what is that thing making that noise? He said, that's an AR-15. Why in God's name do you need that on the streets? I can't imagine. Can't imagine. So. Brock Ganeles (28:15.118) I'm also gonna kill eight kids in 30 seconds. Now you need it for hunting, to hunt squirrels. MARK HAYES (28:17.618) Right. Right. Right. Or Bambi. Jeez. All right, bro. Quick hit me. What do you got? Brock Ganeles (28:29.791) Watch your documentary on the jailblazers on Netflix MARK HAYES (28:33.598) Thoughts? Thoughts? Brock Ganeles (28:36.674) thoughts where you watch a show like that, first of all, I mean the racism is so like blatant, that you also you watch it, from the 1990s, it's like 30 plus years ago, and you're like, wait a second, like. these quote huge indiscretions that they're pointing out. Certainly most of them were fucking nothing. Guys got pulled over for going fast. One was smoking a little bit of weed. mean, shit now that's probably illegal in Oregon, right? Yeah, wouldn't even, you know. MARK HAYES (29:10.312) Right, right, all places. Brock Ganeles (29:13.23) Yeah, it wouldn't even be crimes. Domestic violence was a problem. But yeah, the whole thing was racial. You had a white community with a bunch of black players coming into town and they absolutely over... I mean, just overhyped like the lawlessness. Like I said, no one went to jail. Almost every almost all the charges got dropped. It was kind of it was kind of bullshit. You know, so part of it is like part of it like gets away from race, which is like, yeah, 20 to 24 year old men who have money are going to do some fuckery, right? They're going to fuck around. They're going to cause some mayhem. They're not going to. Yeah, they're not going to be a part of like the exact culture they're going to. MARK HAYES (29:30.388) Hey! MARK HAYES (29:40.873) Bye! MARK HAYES (29:51.848) Right. We got money. Brock Ganeles (29:57.921) dress different, they're going to like whatever, they're going to create some mayhem. But if it's someone of a different color doing that, it changes the entire narrative of the entire community. that's really what that story comes down to. And it's really separate Damon Stoddermeyer more than anyone because he was from there coming back home. So they loved him in high school. then like, I mean, he's MARK HAYES (30:10.938) Yep. MARK HAYES (30:20.255) Right. Brock Ganeles (30:25.934) Smoking weed or driving too fast and all of a sudden like he's a bad guy. It's just It's just who controls the narrative you know controls the story and MARK HAYES (30:31.082) Isn't that? MARK HAYES (30:38.442) But what is, Brock, my question is the bigger issue to me is what is the purpose? Like is it to drive the player's value down? Is it to, you know, reinforce negative stereotypes? Like what's the purpose of something like this? I don't, yeah. Brock Ganeles (30:58.19) I'll call them the jailblazers. What's the purpose? It's definitely to denigrate them. mean, that was just to put a racist moniker on top of the team. MARK HAYES (31:10.504) I wonder if Rashid, Damon and Bonzi knew that that was going to be the title of the project when they sat down for those interviews. I sure would like to know that. Cause I know I would not have participated in anything that that refers to me as a jail blaze, especially when I never went to jail. You know, I mean, and you're writing about shit that really, you know, doesn't really scratch the surface. know, that's one thing if they're talking about felonies, right? It's a guy who's driving too fucking fast. How many times did that happen that year? You know? I just was really bothered by the title and the way they tried to, you know, denigrate these guys, especially after Rashid has been an NBA champ. Brock Ganeles (31:54.242) You know what? Brock Ganeles (32:05.986) Yeah, yeah, we went somewhere else and won a championship. I mean... You know, look, you can't defend everything that went on, right? Like certainly they brought in with that guy, Ruben Parrison, he had domestic violence, you know, like that was like next level shit. I don't know why they brought, you know, that, that player in, but it's height. It kind of reminded me of the Allen Iverson documentary and just because he wouldn't dress the way everyone wanted him to dress. You know, the funny thing is like you think back to the, even the Blazers history. Yeah, they won a championship with Bill Walton. MARK HAYES (32:16.797) Right. MARK HAYES (32:27.4) Yep. MARK HAYES (32:31.336) Yep. Brock Ganeles (32:37.782) and Walton's a great player, but Walton also smoke weed. But you know what? He was a free spirit, right? Bill Walton was a free spirit. Bill Walton got like tied up with some guys that were like the FBI was going after that he was living in that he was friends with like counterculture guys, which also tended to be, it was like a trumped up thing. But like that was like serious shit if you watched the Bill Walton documentary, but he was a big white guy and look, I love Bill Walton, so I'm not going to knock him, but like just MARK HAYES (32:42.622) Wasn't a problem. Right. MARK HAYES (32:51.39) Right? MARK HAYES (33:02.729) Right? Brock Ganeles (33:07.756) Of course the team was going to embrace that and they use, there's a lot of euphemisms in there, like the culture and the society and like they're just code words for white America versus black versus black America. And it was just a whole hour and 20 minutes. The documentary was just like, you know what? We just have a siloed society that doesn't welcome differences and MARK HAYES (33:13.354) Aye. Right. Yep. Yep. MARK HAYES (33:35.026) Right. Brock Ganeles (33:37.099) and the white America controls narratives. And of course, young black men are going to push against that. MARK HAYES (33:44.201) Right. Brock Ganeles (33:45.527) It's natural. Young people are always pushing against status quo just in general. And if it's coming from someone from another race or culture, it's going to be that much more. And then of course the establishment looks to squash it. And in the end, that's really, you know, what it kind of ended up being right as a squashing of it. But the people involved become, you know, the victims, right? Like Bonzi Wells, like feel bad from 30 years later, he's still feeling the scars, right? And he never even MARK HAYES (34:05.291) Right. MARK HAYES (34:14.579) Right. Right. Right. Brock Ganeles (34:15.49) got into trouble. He was just roped in everything, right? Because he played hard. Yeah, it's sad. I hate to see that. mean, any, any documentary, anything having to do with the NBA is about race. And you know, that's why I have no tolerance for people who say, keep politics out of sports. It is there. You know, keep racism out of sports. You can't. Society, it's there. That's my, what do got for me? MARK HAYES (34:26.67) Yes. MARK HAYES (34:34.761) Right. Right. You can't. Yep. Right. Good stuff. Well, Eddie Murphy, honored by the AFI last night, lifetime achievement award, American Film Institute, giving him his flowers. And I don't know if you saw the Eddie Murphy documentary, but it was really good. Yeah. And I really enjoyed. Brock Ganeles (34:58.606) Yeah, it was really good. MARK HAYES (35:04.551) listening to Eddie open up, you know, and talk. Man, Brock, we're getting old. Eddie's 65. Brock Ganeles (35:12.664) Ooh, okay. MARK HAYES (35:14.591) Looks great, but geez, you know, I mean, this guy went from what teenage standup, right? To, you know, global superstar, you know, little dude from, you know, whatever part, what was he from Brooklyn? Was he from Brooklyn? What part of New York? Long Island? I think he was, he was from either one of the five boroughs or Long Island, but you know, Beverly Hills Cop II. Brock Ganeles (35:31.0) I don't know where he's from. MARK HAYES (35:41.396) One of my favorite movies. liked one, but two was one of my favorites. The Nutty Professor franchise. love, you know, Saturday Night Live. Some of those skits, Hot Tub, make me wet. I love that one. And the sketch where he's on the bus and he's dressed as a white guy and everybody's giving him free stuff. And then soon as the black guy gets off the bus, the waitress. comes out and starts passing out drinks. Brock Ganeles (36:12.078) But but but Raw was like the to me, I think it was like the first time really big where a comedy show was like a movie. MARK HAYES (36:24.069) yeah. Brock Ganeles (36:24.746) And now, that's like Netflix is littered with it. now this is the comedians are making huge money with those kind of specials that are kind of like, you know, theatrical releases. And that's kind of like, you know, the big money of comedy now, right? Because when we were younger, they put out records. MARK HAYES (36:27.549) Live it up, folks. MARK HAYES (36:32.576) Yeah. MARK HAYES (36:36.362) Yep. MARK HAYES (36:40.661) Yeah. Right. Brock Ganeles (36:45.078) And Eddie Murphy, like, I mean, Carlin had started, you know, had done it a little bit, but then Eddie Murphy exploded it. And then that became the blueprint was you did a comedy special on cable. And then, you know, in movie theaters for some, and now it's streaming. mean, it's everywhere. Some guys are putting one out a month, right? Chappelle, like there's other, there's, there's hundreds of them now putting out. MARK HAYES (36:52.821) Right. MARK HAYES (37:01.865) You saw Bill Cosby doing it? MARK HAYES (37:08.075) It's everywhere. MARK HAYES (37:13.567) Yeah, yeah. But nothing really garnered the success of Raw. Raw was, I mean, untouchable. Like everybody loved Raw. It appealed to everybody. And he touched on all kinds of subjects that just, I mean, had us dying. So, you Brock Ganeles (37:21.964) No, it was so big. Brock Ganeles (37:38.094) So what was it? It was an award show or was it specifically just an award given to him that they turned into a show? MARK HAYES (37:45.855) Yeah, it sounds like it was an award show. They had a ceremony, his family, friends, they shared his journey, kind of like a roast. You know, they gave him the Lifetime Achievement Award. was at the Dolby Theater in LA. Brock Ganeles (38:04.278) Okay, I'm gonna segue a little bit. I'm gonna ask you a question. When is the White House Correspondents' It's coming up. Not canceled, I don't believe. This will be a topic for tomorrow because I think it's still scheduled and I have no respect for a single journalist that attends. MARK HAYES (38:11.741) Isn't it cancelled? Is it? MARK HAYES (38:24.021) thought it was canceled. MARK HAYES (38:30.283) Right, and who could possibly perform? Because Trump's off limits. Brock Ganeles (38:36.108) Yeah, I don't think it's been canceled. All right, I'll do my homework on that. MARK HAYES (38:39.433) Alright, I'll check too. Alright buddy, see you tomorrow. Brock Ganeles (38:41.998) Alright Mark, was a pleasure. Talk to you tomorrow.
