Speaker 5: News meteorologist Brian Hughes has continued sunny and warm today.
• 1:27
Speaker 5: Highs are going to be below 90. Some late night
• 1:29
Speaker 5: rain around tonight. Lows are below 70. Showers and thunderstorms
• 1:33
Speaker 5: tomorrow off and on throughout the day with a high
• 1:34
Speaker 5: in the mid-80s. Some leftover rains on Friday morning, but
• 1:38
Speaker 5: should clear out. By the time high school football Friday
• 1:41
Speaker 5: night rolls around, it's in the mid-80s. Looking like some
• 1:43
Speaker 5: showers and storms around on Saturday with a high in
• 1:45
Speaker 5: the mid-80s and partly sunny, dry, and warm for Sunday
• 1:48
Speaker 5: with a high in the upper 80s. Download the Metro

• 1:53
Speaker 5: catch Brian and his team of meteorologists. Coming up, told
• 1:56
Speaker 5: you yesterday, so much going on in the area this
• 1:59
Speaker 5: weekend as we head toward the weekend. If you can't
• 2:02
Speaker 5: find anything to do, in the Kanawha Valley this weekend.
• 2:06
Speaker 5: That is your fault. We're going to tell you about
• 2:08
Speaker 5: a couple of the big events happening. One of those
• 2:09
Speaker 5: in Nitro with Boomtown Days. And another big happening is
• 2:13
Speaker 5: in Winfield, their annual Putnam County Homecoming. Patty Ashworth is
• 2:16
Speaker 5: with the Putnam County Homecoming Group. And she joins us
• 2:19
Speaker 5: this morning via the Guarantee Bank Hotline. Patty, good morning.
• 2:21
Speaker 5: Welcome to the show.
• 2:23
Speaker 6: Good morning. Thank you for having me.
• 2:25
Speaker 5: Thank you for being here. 97 years. This is how
• 2:28
Speaker 5: long this thing has been going on. Is that right?
• 2:31
Speaker 6: That is correct. It's quite a lengthy county tradition.
• 2:36
Speaker 5: It is indeed. So what is it that makes this
• 2:38
Speaker 5: event so special? Because, I mean, events come and go,
• 2:42
Speaker 5: and obviously you weren't there for all 97 years. That'd
• 2:44
Speaker 5: be more like Randy Barrett that may have been there,
• 2:46
Speaker 5: the mayor, for 97 years. But what is it, though,
• 2:50
Speaker 5: that makes this thing so lasting and it just keeps
• 2:53
Speaker 5: going on all these years and all these decades, nearly
• 2:55
  Speaker 5: 100 years later?
• 2:57
Speaker 6: I think it's because of the people in the county
• 3:00
Speaker 6: that appreciate tradition and are proud of our county. A
• 3:06
Speaker 6: lot of us grew up here, and, you know, we
• 3:10
Speaker 6: remember attending this as kids ourselves. We have a big
• 3:16
Speaker 6: parade on Sunday afternoon that starts at 1.30 that, you know,
• 3:21
Speaker 6: kids and adults really seem to enjoy and come out
• 3:26
Speaker 6: for to celebrate participate in. I think a big part
• 3:31
Speaker 6: of it is the fact that it's such a long-lasting tradition.
• 3:36
Speaker 5: You know, I moved to Putnam County myself, Patty, in 2014,
• 3:40
Speaker 5: early part of 2014, and I found myself there because
• 3:43
Speaker 5: everybody said this is the thing you got to go
• 3:45
Speaker 5: to in September, and within a couple of months of
• 3:47
Speaker 5: moving there, I found myself there at the Putnam County
• 3:50
Speaker 5: Homecoming because it's just that kind of a big deal.
• 3:53
Speaker 5: You mentioned the parade, but there's so much more going
• 3:55
Speaker 5: on Saturday and Sunday? Run down the entire schedule for us.
• 4:01
Speaker 6: On Saturday, we have craft vendors, food vendors that will
• 4:07
Speaker 6: be set up and ready to go around noon. And
• 4:11
Speaker 6: then at 3.30, the entertainment kind of end of things,
• 4:18
Speaker 6: We have this year something new that I'm kind of
• 4:22
Speaker 6: excited about. We have the Putnam County Library coming, and
• 4:28
Speaker 6: they are going to do a story time, which they
• 4:31
Speaker 6: do weekly at the library for kids. But this is
• 4:35
Speaker 6: the first time they've come, and so there will be
• 4:37
Speaker 6: little kids there, and they're going to sing and, you know,
• 4:41
Speaker 6: just do their thing that they do during story time.
• 4:46
Speaker 6: And so we hope that people will bring out their
• 4:49
Speaker 6: kids so their kids can participate with this, with the
• 4:53
Speaker 6: librarian on the stage. At 4 o'clock, by request, we
• 5:00
Speaker 6: have brought back the Putnam's Got Talent show this year.
• 5:04
Speaker 6: We've had several people say, oh, I wish we would
• 5:07
Speaker 6: do that again. So we have a young mom that
• 5:12
Speaker 6: has stepped up and said, hey, I'll help with that
• 5:16
Speaker 6: because we're like everybody else. We need all the help
• 5:21
Speaker 6: we can get. They're going to have several acts, some
• 5:29
Speaker 6: pretty good stuff too.
• 5:34
Speaker 5: What kind of talent are you looking for there? Are
• 5:36
Speaker 5: there any criteria? Are you looking for singers? Are you
• 5:38
Speaker 5: looking for joke tellers? What are you looking for as
• 5:40
Speaker 5: far as the talent goes?
• 5:42
Speaker 6: We are looking for anybody that does Anything that is acceptable.
• 5:49
Speaker 5: Anything that shows off their talent, right? In a family
• 5:52
  Speaker 5: kind of way.
• 5:54
  Speaker 7: Right.
• 5:55
Speaker 6: Remember, we're family friendly.
• 5:56
  Speaker 1: Exactly.
• 5:59
Speaker 6: So, yeah, we don't have any like, oh, we just
• 6:02
Speaker 6: want musical people or we just want joke tellers or
• 6:08
Speaker 6: that kind of thing. We want anyone that is willing
• 6:10
Speaker 6: to come and just have fun with us and share
• 6:14
Speaker 6: something else. I think one of the things that happened
• 6:16
Speaker 6: a couple of years ago, I remember this, and everybody
• 6:20
Speaker 6: still talks about this. We had a lady come, and
• 6:23
Speaker 6: she did a chicken dance. And she was dressed in
• 6:26
Speaker 6: a costume. It was hilarious. And everybody still talks about
• 6:32
Speaker 6: the lady that did the chicken dance. So, you know,
• 6:37
Speaker 6: like I said, no particular criteria except, remember, we're family-friendly
• 6:43
Speaker 6: and very geared to children. And so we just want
• 6:49
Speaker 6: you to come and share what you have and possibly
• 6:52
  Speaker 6: win $ 500.
• 6:53
  Speaker 4: All right.
• 6:53
  Speaker 5: Cool prize.
• 6:56
Speaker 6: Yeah, $ 500 prize for the one that wins. We have
• 7:00
Speaker 6: several different judges so that it's not just one person's opinion.
• 7:04
Speaker 6: You know, it'll be a group thing. And we will
• 7:09
Speaker 6: take entries right up until... let's say three o'clock.
• 7:16
Speaker 5: Okay. So just show up, just show up. If you
• 7:18
Speaker 5: want to enter, just plan on showing up. And is
• 7:20
Speaker 5: there a like maximum number you can take? Because I've
• 7:23
Speaker 5: done events like this in the past, Patty, and you know, it's, uh, everybody,
• 7:27
Speaker 5: everybody wants to have a good time and get out there, participate,
• 7:29
Speaker 5: maybe pick up $ 500, but you can't have 35 or
• 7:32
Speaker 5: 40 entries either. You'll be there till Sunday.
• 7:35
Speaker 6: Uh, that is correct. And, uh, You know, I hadn't
• 7:39
Speaker 6: really thought about that, to be honest.
• 7:41
Speaker 5: We'll get an answer. We'll get an answer, and I'll
• 7:44
Speaker 5: have it for you a little bit later on in
• 7:45
Speaker 5: the week as we get closer. All right, take us
• 7:47
Speaker 5: through the rest of the schedule after Putnam's Got Talent.
• 7:50
Speaker 6: Then after that, we have John Byrd's band that's going
• 7:55
  Speaker 6: to perform at 5 o'clock and 5 to 7, and
• 7:59
Speaker 6: then at 7.30, we've had a young man that is
• 8:06
Speaker 6: originally from Kentucky, but he, I understand, may be living
• 8:10
Speaker 6: in Huntington now. He is going to be there to
• 8:14
  Speaker 6: perform from 7.30 until 8.30. He's a singer, and so
• 8:22
Speaker 6: we're hoping that Putnam County will come out and enjoy
• 8:26
Speaker 6: his music and welcome him to Putnam County.
• 8:30
Speaker 5: All right, let's fast forward now to Sunday because Sunday
• 8:33
Speaker 5: is always a big day for the homecoming.
• 8:35
Speaker 6: Yes. On Sunday, we start the day out at 10
• 8:41
Speaker 6: o'clock with a flag raising. Winfield High School's band always
• 8:46
Speaker 6: is kind enough. They come down and do a flag
• 8:50
Speaker 6: raising ceremony and a little concert usually afterwards. At 1045,
• 8:56
Speaker 6: a church service. We have a community church service. The
• 9:01
Speaker 6: churches in town kind of go together. They plan this.
• 9:05
Speaker 6: They take care of the whole Shamil. And I'm not
• 9:09
Speaker 6: sure if there's anything special they have. I've been told
• 9:13
Speaker 6: that Keith Tyler will be the one that will be
• 9:17
Speaker 6: speaking that day. But it's a non-denominational service, and we
• 9:26
Speaker 6: usually have a good turnout for that. And then after
• 9:31
  Speaker 6: the church service.
• 9:34
  Speaker 7: At....
• 9:36
Speaker 6: Noon, I know the candidates for Miss Putnam County will
• 9:43
Speaker 6: be introduced on the stage, and everybody will get an
• 9:46
Speaker 6: opportunity to see who is representing their community or their school.
• 9:52
Speaker 6: And after that, we have a group of Irish dancers here.
• 10:00
Speaker 6: young kids, teenagers and younger, that are with the dance
• 10:05
Speaker 6: school out on Red House Hill. Chantel McCormick has that group. And,
• 10:13
Speaker 6: you know, when I was a kid, I can remember
• 10:16
Speaker 6: the 4-H'ers. In this county, they had this little Irish dancers.
• 10:22
Speaker 6: And it's great to watch them because they're learning and
• 10:26
Speaker 6: being taught traditional dance that goes back a long, long way.
• 10:32
Speaker 6: And they just do a great little job. And so
• 10:36
Speaker 6: they're going to be doing that. And at 1.30, the
• 10:39
Speaker 6: parade starts. we have Joey's Step, and usually the parade
• 10:50
Speaker 6: lasts an hour to an hour and a half.
• 10:53
Speaker 5: It's a big parade. I've been in that parade before
• 10:55
Speaker 5: for various things. It's a pretty big parade, Patty.
• 10:59
Speaker 6: Well, at 3 o'clock, we have Joey's Step, and anybody
• 11:06
Speaker 6: that lives in this area is probably familiar with Joey.
• 11:11
Speaker 6: He is a magician. When he's not being... one of
• 11:15
Speaker 6: our kids' school counselors. He's a great entertainer. I think
• 11:21
Speaker 6: this summer he has entertained all over the country, literally.
• 11:26
  Speaker 8: He has.
• 11:27
Speaker 5: He's very good at what he does.
• 11:29
Speaker 6: Yeah, and he's such a nice man.
• 11:31
  Speaker 5: He is.
• 11:32
Speaker 6: And so he will be here. Now, before the parade,
• 11:37
Speaker 6: when the crowd is gathering for the parade and stuff,
• 11:40
Speaker 6: I think he's going to do some what I call
• 11:42
Speaker 6: street parades. street magic you know where he just kind
• 11:46
Speaker 6: of walks around and he'll talk to people and show
• 11:49
Speaker 6: them little magic tricks and stuff and people love it
• 11:53
Speaker 6: and then at uh three o'clock he will be on
• 11:56
Speaker 6: stage and we'll do a show um golly gee i'm
• 12:01
Speaker 6: trying to think what else we've got well.
• 12:03
Speaker 5: I mean it sounds like as you say you're you're
• 12:05
Speaker 5: pretty chock full of stuff there well we gotta we
• 12:07
Speaker 5: gotta bring it to a close but what else have
• 12:09
  Speaker 5: you got.
• 12:11
Speaker 6: We've got carnival games. We've got the wildlife discovery. Is
• 12:18
Speaker 6: that what it's called over in Taze Valley that is
• 12:22
Speaker 6: based at the Valley Park? They're coming and bringing their
• 12:28
Speaker 6: animals for the kids to be able to see. We've
• 12:31
Speaker 6: got just a lot of different things like that for kids.
• 12:36
Speaker 6: And the big thing is everything is free.
• 12:39
Speaker 5: Everything is free. Now, again, If I'm correct about this,
• 12:43
Speaker 5: isn't there a part of this that, because, you know,
• 12:45
Speaker 5: Winfield is the home to the West Virginia Drag Racing
• 12:47
Speaker 5: Hall of Fame. And is there a cruising associated with this,
• 12:50
Speaker 5: or is this at a different time?
• 12:51
  Speaker 1: Yes.
• 12:52
Speaker 6: Friday evening, before, you know, but Friday evening, there will
• 12:59
Speaker 6: be a car show. It'll be located down at City Hall,
• 13:04
Speaker 6: next to the thing. And anybody that knows anything about
• 13:07
Speaker 6: car shows, I'm sure, has met Jim Winter and you know,
• 13:11
Speaker 6: that they're having a car show down there Friday night.
• 13:15
Speaker 5: All right. Where's the best place for people to get
• 13:17
Speaker 5: a rundown of all the activities, Patty?
• 13:20
  Speaker 6: PutnamCountyHomecoming.com.
• 13:24
Speaker 5: It is a very good looking website. I was looking
• 13:26
Speaker 5: at it earlier. You've got everything all spelled out there.
• 13:27
Speaker 5: Plus you do a great job on social media as well.
• 13:30
Speaker 5: So again, the things will get started really tomorrow night
• 13:32
Speaker 5: with the car show full of activities on Saturday and
• 13:35
Speaker 5: Sunday as well. Lots of music. Putnam's got talent. You
• 13:38
Speaker 5: got the The beauty pageant, you know, the Queen of
• 13:41
Speaker 5: Putnam County will be announced. It's just a great, great
• 13:43
Speaker 5: activity that's going on there. 97 years this thing has
• 13:46
Speaker 5: been going on, the Putnam County Homecoming. Patty Ashworth, always
• 13:49
Speaker 5: a pleasure to talk to you. Good luck, and I'll
• 13:51
Speaker 5: see you this weekend.
• 13:53
Speaker 6: All right. Thank you so much.

• 14:06
Speaker 5: if you can't find something to do in the Kanawha Valley,
• 14:08
Speaker 5: somebody said to me earlier, they said, why are all
• 14:10
Speaker 5: these things going on on one weekend? I said, well,
• 14:11
Speaker 5: I don't know. I'm not in the planning aspect of it.
• 14:14
Speaker 5: But many of these things go on this particular weekend
• 14:16
Speaker 5: every year. We got so many things going on. One
• 14:18
Speaker 5: of those is Boomtown Days in Nitro. We'll talk to
• 14:21
Speaker 5: Joe when we come back on The Voice of Charleston, WCHS.

• 16:28
Speaker 5: in Nitro. Joe Stevenson of Nitro joins us now on
• 16:30

• 16:32
  Speaker 1: Good morning, sir.
• 16:32
Speaker 5: Welcome to the show.
• 16:34
  Speaker 11: Thank you, David.
• 16:35
Speaker 8: How are you today?
• 16:36
Speaker 5: I'm doing fine. What's the whole idea behind Boomtown Days, sir?
• 16:39
Speaker 12: Well, in 1917, the.
• 16:43
  Speaker 6: U.S.
• 16:44
Speaker 12: Federal government knew that they were going to be needing
• 16:47
Speaker 12: more gunpowder for the World War I efforts overseas and everything.
• 16:54
Speaker 12: And Nitro, this area, was chosen for a munitions plant
• 16:59
Speaker 12: to provide gunpowder for the ammunition that will be used. And, well,
• 17:04
Speaker 12: you know, with gunpowder, you get a big boom. And
• 17:07
Speaker 12: so now we're going to have a Boomtown Day celebration.
• 17:11
Speaker 12: This is an annual event. You know, you were talking
• 17:14
Speaker 12: about all the events happening this weekend, and that's great.
• 17:17
Speaker 12: Like you said, if you can't find something in Kanawha
• 17:19
Speaker 12: Valley to do this Saturday, Friday, Sunday, what have you,
• 17:23
Speaker 12: you're not trying. And with the way the calendar fell
• 17:26
Speaker 12: this year, we always have it on the first Saturday,
• 17:30
Speaker 12: and of September, but the first Saturday this year fell
• 17:36
Speaker 12: right on Labor Day weekend, and we always have our
• 17:38
Speaker 12: fireworks like we talked about last week, and so just
• 17:41
Speaker 12: everybody's had to work around the calendar, and you got
• 17:43
Speaker 12: something to do, and you don't have far to drive.
• 17:46
Speaker 12: I mean, come on. Let's go. Let's have fun. And
• 17:49
Speaker 12: it all gets underway here in Nitro about 10 o'clock
• 17:52
Speaker 12: or so with the annual Boomtown Parade. It'll be going
• 17:55
Speaker 12: from Pickens Road down to 19th Street along Route 25
• 18:00
Speaker 12: just to kind of kick things off. And if anybody
• 18:03
Speaker 12: wants to be in the parade, you just come see
• 18:05
Speaker 12: me because I'll be lining everybody up and we'll get
• 18:08
Speaker 12: you down the road. The Nitro Antique Car Club, the
• 18:11
Speaker 12: annual show, registration will be getting underway on 2nd Avenue
• 18:16
Speaker 12: right next to City Hall about 9 o'clock or so.
• 18:19
Speaker 12: And some of the neatest, finest cars. Dave, I know
• 18:23
Speaker 12: both of us are antiques, but we don't have four wheels,
• 18:27
Speaker 12: so we can't be in it. But nonetheless, there'll be about,
• 18:30
  Speaker 12: I don't know, anywhere from 100 to 150 cars there.
• 18:33
Speaker 12: out here for the show. That'll go on until about
• 18:36
  Speaker 12: 3 o'clock, 3.30, where they'll have the awards and everything.
• 18:39
Speaker 12: But during the day, we will have food vendors out
• 18:43
Speaker 12: here on 2nd Avenue. We will have Joey Step. You
• 18:46
Speaker 12: can get to Joey a couple times on Saturday, first
• 18:50
Speaker 12: at Boomtown Days, then at the Winfield Homecoming. Joey will
• 18:54
Speaker 12: be here. And the big thing that we do with
• 18:56
Speaker 12: Joey is he does balloons. Boy, can he ever do balloons. Oh,
• 19:00
Speaker 12: he does. And he'll be walking the crowd. And, in fact,
• 19:04
Speaker 12: he'll be in the parade making balloons along on the
• 19:07
Speaker 12: parade and everything. So we've got Joey. We've got free
• 19:10
Speaker 12: face painting. Some young ladies from Daniel Hunt's art class
• 19:15
Speaker 12: over at Nitro High School will be on scene doing
• 19:18
Speaker 12: free face painting for everybody. We've got the bubble machine
• 19:22
Speaker 12: where the kids just love and the bouncy there. Something
• 19:25
Speaker 12: new this year, we will have professional wrestling on 21st Street.
• 19:30
Speaker 12: That'll be happening around 11 o'clock or so. Maximum Velocity
• 19:35
Speaker 12: Wrestling will be having about five or six bouts right
• 19:39
Speaker 12: there on 21st Street next to the Nitro Antique Mall.
• 19:43
Speaker 12: Speaking of antiques, we will be having the first annual
• 19:48
Speaker 12: Boomtown Vintage Market. right on 21st Street. We will have
• 19:53
Speaker 12: things out there for people to come and enjoy and
• 19:56
Speaker 12: try to buy some old stuff, some new stuff, some
• 19:59
Speaker 12: collectible stuff. Tim Arnott with the Antique Mall has set
• 20:04
Speaker 12: that up. We'll have live music throughout the day. The
• 20:06
Speaker 12: Barnholler Band will be kicking it off. There's some local
• 20:10
Speaker 12: guys and gals that always kick our Boomtown Day off.
• 20:14
Speaker 12: They will start at 11. Then around 1.15 or so,
• 20:18
Speaker 12: we will have the Velvet Brothers. People might remember the
• 20:21
Speaker 12: Velvet Brothers or have seen the Velvet Brothers on Fridays
• 20:26
Speaker 12: on the live on the levee. They also opened up
• 20:30
Speaker 12: for Casey and the Sunshine Band. Yes, he's a professional pronunciator.
• 20:36
Speaker 12: They will be playing. And then from your... neck of
• 20:40
Speaker 12: the woods and Logan hair supply.
• 20:42
  Speaker 8: Oh yeah.
• 20:43
Speaker 12: We'll be, uh, ending it up for us about four
• 20:45
Speaker 12: o'clock or so, man. I tell you what, we've got
• 20:48
Speaker 12: a lot of things going on and we will have
• 20:50
Speaker 12: the discovery zone zone here. Uh, they, uh, they, they
• 20:55
Speaker 12: bring my running partner every year, the big tortoise. And, um,
• 20:59
Speaker 12: that's the, that's the annual, see, um, the, the 50
• 21:03
Speaker 12: meter race be between he and I and, uh, He
• 21:06
Speaker 12: usually wins, but that'll be happening. A lot of things happening,
• 21:10
  Speaker 12: you know?
• 21:11
Speaker 5: Well, you know, let me put a little plug in
• 21:14
Speaker 5: for hair supply for people that haven't seen or heard
• 21:16
Speaker 5: about hair supply there. We call them the official party
• 21:19
Speaker 5: band of our sister station, 98, seven, the mouth of
• 21:21
Speaker 5: wild and wonderful classic rock. These are guys, as you said,
• 21:24
Speaker 5: they got Logan County, Boone County, a little bit of
• 21:27
  Speaker 5: a kind of, I think there's a canal County in
• 21:28
Speaker 5: there as well, but the leader of the group founder
• 21:30
Speaker 5: of the group, I think it was from Logan County.
• 21:33
Speaker 5: And these guys, when I say they do eighties party music,
• 21:38
Speaker 5: I mean, they, they become the characters and they all
• 21:41
Speaker 5: have very much like a spinal tap type thing where
• 21:44
Speaker 5: they have different names and so on and so forth,
• 21:47
Speaker 5: the full costume. So if you like that 80 stuff
• 21:49
Speaker 5: and that's the, that's my high school stuff, man. If
• 21:51
Speaker 5: you like that and the hairband stuff, we're talking about
• 21:53
Speaker 5: groups like Poison and Rat and Loverboy and Bon Jovi
• 21:57
Speaker 5: and all those. This is the group you need to
• 21:59
Speaker 5: come out and see. These guys are fantastic. They're regulars
• 22:02
Speaker 5: out at Mardi Gras Casino and Resort. They play it
• 22:04
Speaker 5: all over. They literally play all over the country. And
• 22:07
Speaker 5: you will not. It is impossible to be in a
• 22:09
Speaker 5: bad mood when hair supply is playing. I'll say that, Joe.
• 22:13
Speaker 12: And they will be hitting the stage at 415, the
• 22:16
Speaker 12: Living Memorial Stage, right here at Living Memorial Park, like
• 22:20
Speaker 12: I said. And also the Nitro Museum will be open
• 22:24
Speaker 12: all day. We'll have a lot of information booths, too, Dave.
• 22:27
Speaker 12: Just people getting information of different activities throughout the valley
• 22:32
Speaker 12: and that sort of thing. But it's just going to
• 22:35
Speaker 12: be a fun day here in our little part of
• 22:38
  Speaker 12: Kanawha Valley.
• 22:39
Speaker 5: Talking to Joe Stevens again from the city of Nitro.
• 22:41
Speaker 5: The Dave Allen Show on 580 Live brought to you
• 22:43
Speaker 5: in part by Buy Huston's Pizza. This month at Huston's,
• 22:45
Speaker 5: get a large 18-inch pepperoni pizza and an order of meatballs,
• 22:48
  Speaker 5: only $ 24.
• 22:49
  Speaker 6: 99.
• 22:49
Speaker 5: Find your nearest Huston's for delivery, dine-in, or pickup at HustonsPizza.com.
• 22:54
Speaker 5: For those, and Joe, you're on the show with me
• 22:56
Speaker 5: a couple times a month, usually playing up the big
• 22:57
Speaker 5: events going on in Nitro, but for those who may
• 22:59
Speaker 5: not know, what is it about the history? Explain a
• 23:02
Speaker 5: little bit of the history of the whole Boomtown thing,
• 23:04
Speaker 5: and you did a little bit at the beginning there,
• 23:06
Speaker 5: but this is a city, Nitro, that was actually born
• 23:09
Speaker 5: out of the war movement. Tell us that story briefly.
• 23:12
Speaker 12: And can you imagine when the federal government decided Nitro
• 23:16
Speaker 12: was going to be a site for the making and
• 23:21
Speaker 12: the producing of gunpowder for the World War I efforts
• 23:25
Speaker 12: and that sort of thing? But within months, there was
• 23:30
Speaker 12: a city here. There were 100,000 people here. making a city.
• 23:36
Speaker 12: I mean, they were pounding nails like you would not imagine.
• 23:40
Speaker 12: It just, we had a hospital here. We had three
• 23:44
Speaker 12: fire stations here. We had numerous schools here. And it just,
• 23:50
Speaker 12: and with that, we have always been a city that
• 23:54
Speaker 12: recognizes the veterans and what the veterans have meant to
• 23:58
Speaker 12: this country and to this area.
• 24:00
Speaker 5: I've said before, I don't know And West Virginia is
• 24:03
Speaker 5: a very patriotic state, Joe. You know that as well
• 24:05
Speaker 5: as I do. I don't know that there is a city, though,
• 24:07
Speaker 5: in the entire state of West Virginia. I would hazard
• 24:10
Speaker 5: in the country that goes out and does more for
• 24:13
Speaker 5: what its veterans, to honor veterans, than what Nitro does.
• 24:19
Speaker 12: We respect them, honor them, and we'll always be glad
• 24:24
Speaker 12: to be able to provide something for them that they
• 24:26
Speaker 12: can understand and be respectful for. Hey, I got an
• 24:30
Speaker 12: inside tip for you.
• 24:31
Speaker 5: Okay, all right, all right.
• 24:33
Speaker 12: You live out, I know you live out the area
• 24:35
Speaker 12: that I do, and it's Sleepy Hollow Golf Course, right?
• 24:39
  Speaker 13: Yep, yep.
• 24:39
Speaker 12: Out there, the beautiful 18-hole golf course. The original Sleepy
• 24:43
Speaker 12: Hollow Golf Course, is where Ridenour Lake is.
• 24:47
Speaker 5: I was going to say it was in Nitro. I
• 24:49
Speaker 5: did not know that, but I was going to guess
• 24:50
Speaker 5: by the tone of your voice.
• 24:52
Speaker 12: Yes. Where Ridenour Lake is, and I tell you what,
• 24:57
Speaker 12: that's one water hazard that I would not want to
• 25:00
Speaker 12: have to hit a golf club.
• 25:01
  Speaker 6: All right.
• 25:01
Speaker 5: Somebody's going to have to tell me the story, though.
• 25:03
Speaker 5: I mean, Joe, do you know it or does somebody
• 25:05
Speaker 5: else know it? One of our listeners does. What is
• 25:08
Speaker 5: now Ridenour Lake was originally Sleepy Hollow Golf Club, and
• 25:11
Speaker 5: now it's moved over to Taze Valley over where I live.
• 25:13
Speaker 5: I mean, how does that happen? Do you have any idea?
• 25:17
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 25:18
Speaker 12: And I, I have been told the story. It did
• 25:20
Speaker 12: escape me at this time, but Rich Hively, who is
• 25:23
Speaker 12: our city recorder and our city historian, he knows the
• 25:27
Speaker 12: full A to Z kind of composition of the situation.
• 25:31
Speaker 12: And I will, uh, I will find out from him
• 25:34
  Speaker 12: and get back.
• 25:34
Speaker 5: And report back on that.
• 25:36
  Speaker 11: All right.
• 25:36
  Speaker 12: All right.
• 25:37
Speaker 5: So, uh, I gotta ask you before I let you
• 25:39
Speaker 5: go the last week for Labor Day weekend, you guys
• 25:41
Speaker 5: had the collaborative effort between, uh, Nitro and the city
• 25:45
Speaker 5: of St. Albans. It was on Sunday night. You set
• 25:47
Speaker 5: off the fireworks there from the Dick Henderson Bridge. How
• 25:50
  Speaker 5: did everything go?
• 25:52
Speaker 12: It went fine, and the weather really, really cooperated. Sometimes
• 25:57
Speaker 12: when you do aerial fireworks like that, it creates a
• 26:01
Speaker 12: cloud of smoke while the wind was going from the
• 26:05
Speaker 12: Nitro side over to the St. Albans side, so it
• 26:08
Speaker 12: was pushing it away, and all the fireworks were just
• 26:11
Speaker 12: clear in the sky. We had probably 25 to 30
• 26:15
Speaker 12: boats or so down in the water watching it from there.
• 26:18
Speaker 12: People up on the... up on the bridge and everything,
• 26:23
Speaker 12: on both sides of the banks. It went well, and
• 26:26
Speaker 12: I think a lot of people had a great time.
• 26:28
Speaker 12: It was a 25-minute show that everybody enjoyed.
• 26:31
Speaker 5: All right, give us the rundown again for Boomtown Days
• 26:33
  Speaker 5: this Saturday.
• 26:34
Speaker 12: Parade starts at 10 o'clock at Pickens Road, and we'll
• 26:38
Speaker 12: come down First Avenue to kick things off. We've got
• 26:42
Speaker 12: the Nitro Antique Car Club. That show will get underway
• 26:46
Speaker 12: on Second Avenue with registration around 9 o'clock, and then
• 26:49
Speaker 12: we'll have all the vendors set up and ready to
• 26:51
Speaker 12: go and everything on Second Avenue, on 20th Street, on
• 26:56
Speaker 12: 21st Street, getting underway pretty much at 10 o'clock or so.
• 26:59
Speaker 5: And I have been, as I mentioned to you last week, Joe,
• 27:01
Speaker 5: I have been voluntold that I'm going to be there
• 27:04
Speaker 5: representing 98.7 Amount, the Wild and Wonderful Classic Rock. It
• 27:07
Speaker 5: is quite a weekend for us here at the Radio Ranch.
• 27:10
Speaker 5: All of our stations from the Beat to V100 to
• 27:12
Speaker 5: KWS to the Mountain CHS. We're all out at different events.
• 27:15
Speaker 5: Some of us are going to be doubling up at events,
• 27:17
Speaker 5: but I will be there. You've got me. And I
• 27:20
Speaker 5: think at least one other station is going to be
• 27:22
Speaker 5: there in Nitro. I'll be in the big ugly truck
• 27:26
Speaker 5: that we call Mountain Mama. So looking forward to seeing
• 27:28
Speaker 5: you there. By the way, I don't know if you
• 27:30
Speaker 5: happen to see this or not, Joe. Did you see
• 27:31
Speaker 5: the video that Steve Animal did where they let him
• 27:37
Speaker 5: put up the new mountain billboard there in the St.
• 27:41
Speaker 5: Albans area and he put it up upside down? Have
• 27:43
  Speaker 5: you seen that?
• 27:44
Speaker 12: I have seen pictures of it, yes, and only Steve
• 27:48
Speaker 12: Z could really do something of that nature. By the way,
• 27:52
Speaker 12: a good friend of yours, Steve Bishop, is our emcee
• 27:56
  Speaker 12: all day.
• 27:56
Speaker 5: Okay, there you go. I told you, man, we're everywhere.
• 28:00
Speaker 5: We are at every one of these events. But yeah,
• 28:03
Speaker 5: for those that haven't seen the video of Steve Animal,
• 28:05
Speaker 5: Go over to 98.7 The Mountain, Wild and Wonderful Classic
• 28:08
Speaker 5: Rock on our Facebook page or on Dave Allen Radio.
• 28:10
Speaker 5: And just note the expression on Steve Animal's face when
• 28:13
Speaker 5: he realized that he put up the billboard upside down.
• 28:15
Speaker 5: It's still hanging there, I think, just outside St.
• 28:18
  Speaker 10: Albans.
• 28:18
Speaker 5: Hey, Joe, I'll see you Saturday morning, Boomtown Days at Nitro,
• 28:21
Speaker 5: my friend. Thanks a lot.
• 28:23
Speaker 12: Be safe, my friend.
• 28:24
Speaker 5: 24 minutes away from 10 o'clock. Yeah, that is one
• 28:27
Speaker 5: of those. And look, there may have been a little
• 28:31
Speaker 5: dramatization of it, I'm just saying. But the video is
• 28:35
Speaker 5: posted 98.7 The Mountain, Wild and Wonderful Classic Rock. Also,
• 28:37
Speaker 5: I've got it on Dave Allen Radio as well. But
• 28:40
Speaker 5: you need to go check it out. And it's caused
• 28:43
Speaker 5: a lot of stir, a lot of talk, if you will,
• 28:46
Speaker 5: in the community on why there is a 98.7 The Mountain,
• 28:50
Speaker 5: Wild and Wonderful Classic Rock billboard hanging upside down. You
• 28:52
Speaker 5: don't have to talk to Steve Hannibal about that. He's
• 28:54
Speaker 5: in the video. Go Check out the video, the 98.7,
• 28:57
Speaker 5: the Mountain Mama, wonderful classic rock. And as I said,
• 29:00
Speaker 5: Boomtown Days is going on. I am looking forward to
• 29:02
Speaker 5: seeing you there. On Saturday morning, I'll be driving the 98.7,
• 29:05
Speaker 5: the Mountain Mama, wonderful classic rock, Mountain Mama truck. 23
• 29:10
Speaker 5: minutes away from 10. Hey, I invite you to join
• 29:12
Speaker 5: me every Friday morning, 906 for the Adopt Me, Please

Speaker 13: A distracted driver is one of the leading causes of

• 32:41
Speaker 5: Let's talk to Chris. You're on the show. Good morning, sir.
• 32:43
Speaker 5: Welcome to the show.
• 32:45
Speaker 8: How are you doing, Dave?
• 32:46
  Speaker 1: I'm doing fine.
• 32:47
Speaker 8: How are you? Long time, no talk, man. I've had
• 32:51
Speaker 8: some difficulties in my life. A lot of it doing
• 32:55
Speaker 8: to why I'm calling you today.
• 32:57
  Speaker 5: Okay, go ahead.
• 33:00
Speaker 8: You know, this Lindsey Clancy trial, has shown America that
• 33:06
Speaker 8: we don't protect our children. And I'm not talking about abortion.
• 33:11
Speaker 8: Abortion's a separate issue. I know conservatives like to conflate
• 33:16
Speaker 8: abortion with the Lindsay Clancy trial. The clear designated line
• 33:22
Speaker 8: is when children are born. You know, the same defense
• 33:29
Speaker 8: attorney that's represented Lindsay Clancy's is also representing a young
• 33:37
Speaker 8: woman that has allegedly, apparently, stabbed her own mother to
• 33:43
Speaker 8: death in her elderly years. Our society's not protecting the
• 33:48
Speaker 8: weakest amongst us these days. And I find that personally frightening.
• 33:58
Speaker 8: You know, it's said that the children are future victims.
• 34:02
Speaker 8: And our elders are our wisdom. And if the rest
• 34:06
Speaker 8: of us aren't going to rise up to demand protection
• 34:10
Speaker 8: of that, we don't even have a society anymore. Wouldn't
• 34:14
  Speaker 8: you agree?
• 34:15
Speaker 5: I cannot disagree with anything that you just said there.
• 34:17
Speaker 5: I have not followed that trial very much other than
• 34:19
Speaker 5: just what I see, you know, occasional headlines or whatever.
• 34:22
Speaker 5: And I was not aware— And I was not aware
• 34:24
Speaker 5: of what you said about the defense attorney there. But no,
• 34:28
  Speaker 5: I agree.
• 34:29
  Speaker 4: I agree.
• 34:29
Speaker 5: If you cannot protect, as you said, the most vulnerable,
• 34:33
  Speaker 5: go ahead.
• 34:34
Speaker 8: I know time's valuable when we're talking on the phone
• 34:37
Speaker 8: like this. I would like to make one additional point.
• 34:40
  Speaker 4: Yes, sir.
• 34:43
Speaker 8: You know, I know a lot of people are out
• 34:46
Speaker 8: here talking these days, especially on apps like TikTok. I
• 34:51
Speaker 8: really think that TikTok is, is getting into the point
• 34:56
Speaker 8: of danger, uh, in the way it interacts with American society. Uh,
• 35:05
Speaker 8: you know, our women, especially our younger women are going
• 35:09
Speaker 8: to this as a news source. None of this stuff
• 35:12
  Speaker 8: is verified.
• 35:13
  Speaker 6: Yes.
• 35:14
Speaker 8: Um, it's leading to a lot of, uh, opinions that
• 35:18
Speaker 8: are based upon false evidence. Uh, You know, we're doing
• 35:27
Speaker 8: a lot of talk these days about an insanity defense.
• 35:32
Speaker 8: You know, if a fella's got a mental problem and
• 35:36
Speaker 8: he steals a car, I think we as a society
• 35:40
Speaker 8: can say, you know, this guy's got issues and we're
• 35:43
Speaker 8: really sorry about the stolen car, but why don't we
• 35:46
Speaker 8: get him in a mental facility and help get him
• 35:49
Speaker 8: turned around and maybe turn him into a taxpayer again?
• 35:52
Speaker 8: But when people start losing their lives, I don't care
• 35:55
Speaker 8: if you're crazy. You know, if you're killing people, your
• 36:05
Speaker 8: insanity is kind of your own problem. And you need
• 36:09
Speaker 8: to face criminal penalties because people are dead. You know,
• 36:15
Speaker 8: it's disrespectful to the victims of these crimes.
• 36:20
  Speaker 12: If we don't.
• 36:21
Speaker 8: As a society, level of punishment. I get that people
• 36:28
Speaker 8: have mental health issues, but by the same token, when
• 36:34
Speaker 8: your mental health issues lead to other people losing their
• 36:38
Speaker 8: pulse and their heartbeat and their breath, I think we
• 36:43
Speaker 8: as a society can draw a clear line and say,
• 36:47
Speaker 8: those actions are unacceptable and you need to be imprisoned.
• 36:52
Speaker 5: I cannot disagree with one thing that you said. Hey, Chris,
• 36:55
Speaker 5: I am going to move on. I appreciate you calling, man.
• 36:57
  Speaker 5: Thanks a lot.
• 36:58
Speaker 8: Thank you for your time.
• 36:59
Speaker 5: Absolutely. 945, The Dave Allen Show on 580 Live brought

Speaker 5: All right, so quickly, and I got a lot of
• 37:21
Speaker 5: text to get to. I've been telling you about all
• 37:22
Speaker 5: the events coming up this weekend. The Chillin' on the
• 37:25
Speaker 5: Elk Chili Cook-Off Craft Beer and Wine Festival coming up
• 37:28
Speaker 5: on Saturday. Our stations will be live from there. The
• 37:31
Speaker 5: organizers are actually going to join me on the show
• 37:32
Speaker 5: on Friday. Rib Fest happening tomorrow through Sunday at Shawnee Park.
• 37:37
Speaker 5: More on that on tomorrow's show. On Sunday, the annual
• 37:40
Speaker 5: Leah's Legacy event is happening at Slack Plaza. 5K run,
• 37:45
Speaker 5: two-mile walk, plus music with Josh Pantry. Our own Woody
• 37:48
Speaker 5: Woods from The Beat will be there. Food trucks, you
• 37:50
Speaker 5: name it, happening Sunday evening, Slack Plaza. Also at Slack Plaza,
• 37:54
Speaker 5: this one on Saturday, 1-5, the second annual Picklepalooza Pickle Festival.
• 38:02
Speaker 5: So I'm going to get into that on the show tomorrow.
• 38:06
Speaker 5: So the next time someone whines about there's nothing to
• 38:08
Speaker 5: do around here, in the words of my esteemed buddy,
• 38:13
Speaker 5: Pastor Marlon Collins, miss me with that. Miss me with
• 38:17
Speaker 5: that because there's so much going on here in the
• 38:19
Speaker 5: Kanawha Valley. Wake up, Liam, and go out there and
• 38:23
Speaker 5: check it out. 14 minutes away from 10. Let's knock
• 38:26
Speaker 5: out some text. Text says, so glad to see Morrissey.
• 38:28
Speaker 5: welcoming clean energy, nuclear wind, and solar. Text, Chris, a
• 38:35
Speaker 5: child is still a child. Before they're born, just the
• 38:38
Speaker 5: same as the moment after they're born. The only thing
• 38:40
Speaker 5: that changes is the location.
• 38:42
  Speaker 6: Of the baby.
• 38:43
Speaker 5: If you care about children, show care for all of them,
• 38:45
Speaker 5: not just the ones based on their location. Text, tariffs
• 38:52
Speaker 5: on Canada really going to hurt West Virginia's economy. They
• 38:56
Speaker 5: are West Virginia's number one trading partner. So sad to
• 38:59
Speaker 5: see this. Tech's caller really focused on women. I'm sure
• 39:04
Speaker 5: younger men are also pleading insanity defense and looking at
• 39:08
Speaker 5: the same feeds. And there has been insanity defense. Defense
• 39:12
Speaker 5: for centuries. This is not new. Text, Ben Salango has
• 39:17
Speaker 5: to run for governor. We need new leadership to move forward.
• 39:20
Speaker 5: We're begging you to run. All right, Salango, I don't
• 39:23
Speaker 5: know whether you're listening or not, but I'm letting you
• 39:25
Speaker 5: know somebody here thinks it is time for you to
• 39:28
Speaker 5: run for governor. Text us, so POTA was rejected in
• 39:32
Speaker 5: Point Pleasant. What does that mean for Point Pleasant residents'
• 39:34
Speaker 5: abilities for responsible drinking and appreciated American values? I don't know.
• 39:39
Speaker 5: But what I do know is the forces of change
• 39:41
Speaker 5: and preservation will eventually collide in Point Pleasant. If all
• 39:44
Speaker 5: goes as planned, Point Pleasant may no longer be a sleepy,
• 39:47
Speaker 5: two-thirds empty, not in the small town type of city.
• 39:52
Speaker 5: Oddly enough, I was in Point Pleasant last night. A
• 39:56
Speaker 5: friend of mine, an old radio guy I had worked
• 39:58
Speaker 5: with years and years ago, passed away. I went up
• 40:00
Speaker 5: there to pay my respects yesterday. And Point Pleasant was
• 40:03
Speaker 5: the first town that my wife and I lived in
• 40:05
Speaker 5: when we were married. And I drove by our first
• 40:08
Speaker 5: apartment and took in the town. I was I'm always
• 40:11
Speaker 5: early anywhere I go. It starts at five. I'm there
• 40:13
Speaker 5: at four 15 wondering where everybody is. But so I
• 40:15
Speaker 5: had time to drive around town. We plus it's bustling
• 40:17
Speaker 5: right now. I mean, I'll tell you it is, uh,
• 40:20
Speaker 5: and I know we got a lot of listeners up there.
• 40:22
Speaker 5: Our signal comes in great up there. I was listening
• 40:24
Speaker 5: to weekly yesterday when I was up there. Um, but
• 40:28
Speaker 5: the whole POTA thing and to kind of catch people up,
• 40:31
Speaker 5: you know, it's the, uh, it's the public, it does
• 40:33
Speaker 5: not stand for public outdoor drinking areas. Most people think
• 40:36
Speaker 5: it's a designated area where if a city opts to
• 40:39
Speaker 5: do this, you can purchase it. Usually the way it's
• 40:41
Speaker 5: done when it's in Charleston and other cities is you
• 40:44
Speaker 5: can purchase a cup and participating businesses, you can go
• 40:47
Speaker 5: in and you can pay for a drink in that cup.
• 40:49
Speaker 5: And you can be, you can drink if you wish
• 40:51
Speaker 5: to on the street, but you can't have an open
• 40:53
Speaker 5: container of, you know, Bud Light or whatever. It's got
• 40:55
Speaker 5: to be, you know, in, in the cup. And it's
• 40:58
Speaker 5: been done in Charleston in certain areas, but done in
• 41:00
Speaker 5: other areas. I can tell you, I mean, in the
• 41:04
Speaker 5: cities I've talked to on this show, there's been zero issues,
• 41:08
Speaker 5: none whatsoever, zero zilch. Now, it was discussed, as I understand,
• 41:12
Speaker 5: at Point Pleasant City Council last night. I just heard
• 41:15
Speaker 5: about it on the news. I wasn't there. The Point
• 41:17
Speaker 5: Pleasant City Council voted against it, not to allow it.
• 41:20
  Speaker 5: And that's their right. I mean, that's their right. That's
• 41:22
Speaker 5: why they're elected. And obviously, they heard from their consensual
• 41:24
Speaker 5: and didn't want it. So, So be it. But as
• 41:26
Speaker 5: far as I will take issue with it being a
• 41:28
Speaker 5: two-thirds empty town, it is not. I mean, I drove by.
• 41:32
Speaker 5: I did not drive by the Mothman statue. I drove
• 41:34
Speaker 5: down the main drag there and just kind of glanced.
• 41:37
  Speaker 5: And 5, 36 o'clock after 8, there were about 30
• 41:40
Speaker 5: people standing around a Mothman statue. And there's numerous restaurants
• 41:44
Speaker 5: and so on and so forth. But I do appreciate it.
• 41:46
Speaker 5: I always love Point Pleasant. Text the booing to the governor.
• 41:49
Speaker 5: It may have been loud boos or it may have
• 41:51
Speaker 5: been quiet boos. Regardless, it was boos. If Steve Williams
• 41:54
Speaker 5: were governor, he wouldn't have been booed. He would have
• 41:56
Speaker 5: been in touch enough to wear white on a special occasion. Text,
• 42:01
Speaker 5: I saw that upside down billboard in Jefferson on a
• 42:03
Speaker 5: social media picture of a huge plume of black smoke.
• 42:06
Speaker 5: The upside down billboard was in the background. My wife said,
• 42:08
Speaker 5: I hope that wasn't intentional. No, that's one of those
• 42:11
Speaker 5: kind of things. I saw the picture you're referring to
• 42:13
Speaker 5: as well. Someone sent it to me. There was, I'm told,
• 42:18
Speaker 5: some sort of a controlled fire going on. It was
• 42:20
Speaker 5: nowhere near the The picture made it look like it
• 42:23
Speaker 5: was a little closer than it was to the upside-down 98.7
• 42:26
Speaker 5: amount in Wild and Wonderful Classic Rock Billboard. Appreciate the text.
• 42:31
Speaker 5: Let me see. Great to hear the jackal on the radio. Yeah,
• 42:34
Speaker 5: that's kind of the alter ego of Chris, our previous caller.
• 42:38
Speaker 5: Text Florida guy Dave, the social media comment is dead on.
• 42:42
Speaker 5: It's the ruin of mankind. I call it an electronic pacifier,
• 42:46
Speaker 5: and boy, is this true. The Dave Allen Show on

Speaker 5: Guarantee Bank Hotline 304-345-5858. Tony Vitale, text 304-935-500. Text says,
• 45:28
Speaker 5: one thing about the Clancy trial that I want to
• 45:30
Speaker 5: know why weren't two of those female jurors not dismissed
• 45:33
Speaker 5: and replaced by alternates because they walked into court wearing
• 45:36
Speaker 5: pink shirts, which is what the evil Code Pink Clancy
• 45:39
Speaker 5: supporters were wearing in the trial. outside the courthouse. How
• 45:42
Speaker 5: did they know to wear those on the same day
• 45:44
Speaker 5: that they were wearing them outside? They weren't supposed to
• 45:47
Speaker 5: be following any part of the trial, including the supporters
• 45:49
Speaker 5: and protesters outside. Honestly, I cannot speak to anything regarding
• 45:57
Speaker 5: the Clancy trial, other than what just the headlines that
• 46:00
Speaker 5: I read, and that's in reputable news sources, whatever, television, whatever,
• 46:06
Speaker 5: because I do not follow one bit of it. And
• 46:08
Speaker 5: I'm not trying to dismiss it. I'm just saying it
• 46:10
Speaker 5: just It just didn't interest me. I've never been one
• 46:14
Speaker 5: that got into celebrity trials, even the O.J. trial.
• 46:18
  Speaker 2: I mean, it.
• 46:21
Speaker 5: It was impossible to escape because it was in a
• 46:24
Speaker 5: time the O.J. trial was in a time when there
• 46:26
Speaker 5: wasn't social media and everyone was watching cable and television,
• 46:31
  Speaker 5: you know, back.
• 46:31
Speaker 2: In the mid 1990s.
• 46:33
Speaker 5: There weren't streaming and so on and so forth, at
• 46:35
Speaker 5: least not the way we know it now. So I
• 46:38
Speaker 5: didn't even follow that. It just never– I mean, these
• 46:41
Speaker 5: celebrity trials or these well-known trials, normally I see people
• 46:45
Speaker 5: talking about them, and everybody likes what they like. It
• 46:48
Speaker 5: just never interested me in the least. I'm sure people
• 46:51
Speaker 5: don't understand my obsession with sports either. But when I
• 46:55
Speaker 5: get texts or I see comments, I was like, I
• 46:57
Speaker 5: don't know because I've not followed one. One iota of
• 47:01

Speaker 5: But it's going to go to further illustrate how out
• 48:12
Speaker 5: of whack social media has made our lives on a
• 48:16
Speaker 5: regular basis. It is a bizarre story. I'm just getting
• 48:19
Speaker 5: into it now. And I'm going to discuss it a
• 48:22
Speaker 5: little bit on the show today. Plus, we'll get to

Speaker 5: DeBaron and me coming up at noon today, brought to
• 48:30
Speaker 5: you by Selangor Law. On this show tomorrow, continue to

Speaker 5: happening down on Slack Plaza in Charleston. I'm tired already,
• 48:49
Speaker 5: and plus, I'm going to be on the air 98.7
• 48:52
Speaker 5: Mountain Sunday between noon and 7. Really quick here, Jack
• 48:56
Speaker 5: Carlson has a story posted, wvmetronews.com. Ja'Kai Harrison was sentenced
• 49:01
Speaker 5: yesterday by Judge Tara Salango. He's the guy who was
• 49:03
Speaker 5: firing shots outside Lately Field back in May during a
• 49:07
Speaker 5: track meet. He got five years in prison. Now, he
• 49:10
Speaker 5: says he was being followed along Piedmont Road and opened fire.
• 49:13
Speaker 5: He did apologize for his actions. Very remorseful, as Jack
• 49:16
Speaker 5: points out in his story. You can read the story, wvmetronews.com.
• 49:20
Speaker 5: This was a story, tragic as it was, but was
• 49:24
Speaker 5: made much, much worse by social media because by the
• 49:28
Speaker 5: time it was all said and done, there were mass
• 49:30
Speaker 5: casualties and so on and so forth. I'm not trying
• 49:32
Speaker 5: to make light of it at all, but as usual,
• 49:36
Speaker 5: You had some people on social media making the reports
• 49:39
Speaker 5: and made the event 10 times worse than what they were.
• 49:43
Speaker 5: Reject story, WVMetroNews.com. Text, TikTok is the scourge of society,
• 49:49
Speaker 5: but not as bad as those radio, TV, and newspaper
• 49:51
Speaker 5: social medias. All those brainiacs doing all that writing and
• 49:54
Speaker 5: talking about government and stuff. Radical liberal elites, a lot
• 49:57
Speaker 5: of them. Y'all need church and to lock up the crazies,
• 50:01
Speaker 5: says a texter. Text, my bad, Dave. Point Pleasant is
• 50:05
Speaker 5: two-thirds empty. It's one-third empty. Their largest population is over 6,000 people.
• 50:10
  Speaker 5: Now they're a little over 4,000 people.
• 50:11
  Speaker 8: Apologies.
• 50:12
Speaker 5: Well, they're still doing a heck of a lot better
• 50:13
Speaker 5: than a lot of cities are right now, I can
• 50:15
Speaker 5: tell you. They're doing a whole lot better. Text, Dave,
• 50:18
Speaker 5: the reason the trial was so important to follow is
• 50:20
Speaker 5: the fact that it was not just about her mental state.
• 50:23
Speaker 5: She knew what she was doing. The psychiatrist that was
• 50:25
Speaker 5: on the stand said that if you do not hear
• 50:28
Speaker 5: a voice, I'm telling you to do something, then you
• 50:31
Speaker 5: do it, then it stops. How do you suffer postpartum
• 50:34
Speaker 5: psychosis for a total of maybe four to five years
• 50:37
Speaker 5: for children range from eight months to five years of age?
• 50:40
  Speaker 1: T.J.
• 50:40
Speaker 5: Meadows, back from his mini vacation, joins us this morning.
• 50:43
Speaker 5: How you doing, my friend? All rested, tan, ready to go?
• 50:46
  Speaker 5: I don't know about that.
• 50:47
Speaker 18: You know, one thing I did think was interesting about Clancy,
• 50:49
Speaker 18: I haven't followed it much either, but in the state
• 50:50
Speaker 18: of Massachusetts, it's my understanding that if you declare yourself
• 50:54
Speaker 18: mentally ill, the burden is on the state to prove
• 50:56
Speaker 18: that you are not, rather than the burden on you
• 50:58
Speaker 18: to prove that you are.
• 50:59
Speaker 5: I thought that was interesting.
• 51:00
  Speaker 8: Okay.
• 51:01
Speaker 1: Now, you are one of the people.
• 51:03
Speaker 5: That saw the famed 98.7 The Mountain billboard yesterday. Tell
• 51:07
  Speaker 5: me about that.
• 51:08
Speaker 18: So I had business in South Charleston. I thought, you know,
• 51:10
Speaker 18: it's been a while since I took the old way.
• 51:12
Speaker 18: McCorkle Avenue. I'll just go to the valley that way.
• 51:15
  Speaker 1: I go by. I see a billboard.
• 51:17
Speaker 18: Animals upside down. I'm like, what is going on with that?
• 51:21
Speaker 18: I'm like, man, somebody really screwed up.
• 51:22
  Speaker 2: No.
• 51:23
  Speaker 6: No.
• 51:24
Speaker 1: No, not so much.
• 51:25
Speaker 5: No, okay. Go watch the video, 98.7 The Mountain, Wild
• 51:29
Speaker 5: and Wonderful Classic, right?
• 51:30
Speaker 18: 98.7 The Mountain on Facebook. What you got on the
• 51:32
Speaker 18: show today? So coming up on the show today, Wilson
• 51:34
Speaker 18: and I get in. We're going to continue to talk
• 51:36
  Speaker 18: Justice vs.
• 51:36
  Speaker 7: Morrissey.
• 51:37
  Speaker 5: I can't go anywhere.
• 51:38
Speaker 18: I can't go anywhere without someone bringing it up, wanting
• 51:42
Speaker 18: to talk about it. So like it or not, the
• 51:43
Speaker 18: whole state's talking about it. We'll get into that. We'll
• 51:45
Speaker 18: talk about this nuclear deal from yesterday, that, and a
• 51:47
  Speaker 18: whole much more.
• 51:48
  Speaker 1: All right.
• 51:48
Speaker 5: I'll see you later today on Metro News Midday. Until then,
• 51:51
Speaker 5: have fun and love somebody.
• 51:56
Speaker 16: We're proud to live here, too.
