- 0:27Hey, everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So do you happen to have goals for your character?
- 0:33I know, weird question to start off the day.
- 0:35However, we don't have goals for everything else that we're
- 0:38working on. I know most of you, if you're
- 0:40listening to this, you probably have goals that you've set forth
- 0:43for the year. You know, if you want to make
- 0:44$100,000, buy a house, get a new car, you know, start a real
- 0:50estate team, go ahead and create a new business.
- 0:54You know, build out whatever your your current ideal world
- 0:58is. You want to grow it because
- 1:00that's what we're taught to do. We're taught to have goals so we
- 1:02can achieve them and that's an excellent foundation and and
- 1:07thing to work towards. In fact, a big chunk of my
- 1:10business is built around that for people, helping them figure
- 1:13all that stuff out and how to get there.
- 1:15But I'm talking about goals for your character.
- 1:19Things that you want to build into yourself as a as a person.
- 1:23Things that you want to cultivate as a as a better human
- 1:29being, as more of what you've always thought you wanted to be
- 1:33like. Do you want to be more generous?
- 1:35Do you want to be philanthropic? Do you want to be more creative?
- 1:39Do you want to write or paint? Do you want to have parts of
- 1:44yourself that you're just like, OK, I know that I'm not patient.
- 1:48I want to build patience into myself.
- 1:51Do I want to be more creative in the sense that, you know,
- 1:55there's a part of me that's always wanted to write a book,
- 1:57but I don't feel creative, so I'm going to work on being
- 2:00creative. I'm talking about those little
- 2:03pieces of just personality that have probably been
- 2:09underdeveloped. Because you're so busy working
- 2:11on the external world, you forget to work on the internal
- 2:14world. Now why is this so important?
- 2:17Well, it's very hard to create the external world if you are
- 2:21not working on the internal world.
- 2:23And the internal world is by far one of the most difficult places
- 2:27to work on. So we will sit there and say,
- 2:30OK, I'm going to work on the external world because that
- 2:32seems a little bit easier. Well, I have news for you.
- 2:35If you don't work on the internal world, you can't get
- 2:38what you want on the external world.
- 2:41It's like foundational pieces. It's like building a house on
- 2:45sand. You would never sit and build a
- 2:47house on sand, although hundreds of years ago they did because
- 2:49they didn't understand the foundation process and that sand
- 2:53shifts. So if you don't always work on
- 2:56your character, you will find that it shifts.
- 3:00You will find that you become cynical.
- 3:02You will find that you, the world will wear you down and
- 3:05that you have to really cultivate the identity and the
- 3:09personality that you desire. And that's what this is about,
- 3:13making that a purposeful point in your life instead of just
- 3:19saying, hey, you know what? I am who I am.
- 3:22Because that's not true. Sure, we have certain aspects of
- 3:26our personality that are there, but we don't have to keep any of
- 3:29those if we don't want them. We can change everything about
- 3:32ourselves if we choose to. That's the beautiful thing about
- 3:36being a human being and having the ability to choose.
- 3:40It's one of the greatest gifts that we have been given.
- 3:44Choice, we can figure it out. We can sit there and listen to
- 3:47ourselves. We can dig in and say, you know,
- 3:50I, I need to work on this now. I will tell you, when I first
- 3:53got introduced to this, I recognized that one of my
- 3:56biggest challenges was that I was very impatient.
- 4:00I did not have patience. I still, I won't say that I have
- 4:05zero patience now, but I will say that I am always challenged
- 4:08with being impatient and I have to pull myself back.
- 4:12And I think now it's the biggest gift that I've been given.
- 4:15Where I used to think it was the biggest pain in the ass, quite
- 4:18honestly that when I was presented to me that I'm not
- 4:21patient. I'm like, what do you mean I'm
- 4:22not patient? Well, now I realize I was
- 4:25totally not patient. And having to slow down and be
- 4:30patient has taught me more than anything that I ever learned in
- 4:34school. It it really truly has been one
- 4:37of the biggest gifts. Yeah, it was.
- 4:39It is the hardest thing that I deal with because I do have this
- 4:44desire to just boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
- 4:46It's like rapid fire making things happen and I have to slow
- 4:50down with those around me. I have to listen.
- 4:54I have to develop the skills of really listening, especially in
- 4:57my field of coaching. That one thing that seemed to be
- 5:02such a character flaw has brought me so many gifts.
- 5:06When I recognized it and I decided I wanted to change it
- 5:10Now, if I hadn't done that, it would have just continued to
- 5:13bring me pain. But instead I made the decision
- 5:16that I wanted to work on this. I wanted to be able to shift it,
- 5:20and once I did, I was able to really hone in and focus on it.
- 5:25So I'm going to ask you to look and see and really kind of make
- 5:31that list of things. What are your character goals?
- 5:34What are the things that you want to add into yourself?
- 5:36What are the things that you know, you want to cultivate, you
- 5:40want to work on, You want to bring to light and put them on a
- 5:44piece of paper, Make a plan for how you're going to do it as far
- 5:48as every day, every day saying, OK, you know, here's how I'm
- 5:52going to show up and be patient today.
- 5:54Here are the little things that I can do.
- 5:56You know, I have a little recipe for myself where I'm like, OK,
- 6:00the moment I feel myself becoming impatient, I say Nope,
- 6:03that's the moment I have to sit and pause.
- 6:05I have to go by myself. Even if I have to take myself
- 6:07out and just walk in the bathroom and shut the door, I'll
- 6:10say, got to take a deep breath, bring myself back to center.
- 6:14OK, now I can walk out and deal with it because I can feel the
- 6:17impatience. Steal the wheel of that bus and
- 6:20off we go. So figure out where you're going
- 6:23with it, start working on it. And remember, this is a
- 6:26practice. This is not a destination.
- 6:28You'll be doing it forever. So get good at that practice and
- 6:31I will see you soon. Have a great day my friends.
- 6:33Bye.
