- 0:00SPEAKER_01: Welcome back to Quick Wins for ADHD moms.
- 0:03SPEAKER_01: My name is Jessica Lynn Lewis, and I'm an ADHD mom with ADHD kids.
- 0:08SPEAKER_01: So chances are there's a lot of things in our lives that we kind of share this chaos, right?
- 0:16SPEAKER_01: And so the reason why I started this podcast is there's little, there's little wins that we can do every day that just might make your life a little bit easier.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: Well, today on the show, I'm very excited to have a special guest, Marnie Lee Wells.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: She's a multi-business founder, AI strategist, and mom who transforms chaos into clarity.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: Once a self-proclaimed tech avoider, she discovered AI in early 2023 and built custom systems to manage her businesses, team communications, meal planning, and family schedules.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: Marnie specializes in creating second brains that reduce mental load and support creative, scattered minds, proving that AI can be a game changer for overstimulated, under-supported entrepreneurs and us ADHD moms trying to juggle it all.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: So here is today's interview with Marnie.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: Well, Marnie, thank you so much for being on quick wins for ADHD moms.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: I'm so excited to have you.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: It's awesome to be here.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: Thank you, Jessica.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: Well, let's dive into your quick win, something an ADHD mom can just implement right away.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: So I would love to encourage everybody to stop using Google and start using Gemini instead.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: So you just download the app Gemini and have a conversation with Gemini every day.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Start to understand how artificial intelligence can help you in life by either brain dumping or asking random questions.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: An example was I was on the way to school drop-off the other day, and my daughters had questions about why the moon was still shining in the morning.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: And of course, my brain was already overloaded with trying to get out of the house and you know, so many things going on.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: And once I drop the kids off, I've got to be here and I've got to be there.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Then I was like, I don't know.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: And then I thought I should know.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: And then I thought, well, I can't, you know, just leave it at that.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: So I was like, well, let's ask Gemini.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: So jumped on and put on the voice mode for Google Gemini and just said, I have my two daughters here, and I gave them, gave Gemini the age, and uh they asked their question.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: And yeah, we we try to have a Gemini chat once or twice a week, and I try to chat to Gemini once a day.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: I know it might sound a bit weird for some people, but it is a great way for me to brain dump and learn actually, you know, how to use artificial intelligence, which is the new digital transformation that we're in.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: And I love how you are showing your daughters how that works too.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: You're bringing them into the process and you're doing this together.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: And and they're growing up in such a fascinating age where they're going to be implementing AI at all different parts of their lives, whereas we are like, how do we use this?
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: How can we use it?
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: And so um, you've been doing this for a few years now, and you actually help people one-on-one implement how to use AI with their ADHD brain and the chaos.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: I love that you said you help people go from chaos to calm.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: And that's absolutely what we need and what we want.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: And so, can you lean in on, you know, more of what it looks like to work with you and your process and maybe a story of how um someone just implemented that and how it's changed their life.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: So I think probably the first place I always start is we create your own personal assistant with an AI model of your choice.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: Lots of people use ChatGPT, obviously.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: Um, some people who, you know, have a Google workspace potentially.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: We often try and stay on Google.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: Um, some people have like a Microsoft.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: Um I don't always encourage on Copilot because they're mainly linked to business accounts.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: Um, but other people will use um another really amazing tool is called Perplexity AI.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: So that's my favorite go-to, yeah.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: Um, so I start with um let's create you a personal assistant.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: Let's create a brain.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: So I call it a second brain for the AI.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: If you had your best friend beside you, your, you know, um, your biggest cheerleader, your um personal assistant, slash executive assistant, slash virtual assistant, whatever you could get your hands on to help you, what knowledge do you need them to know?
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: What do you need to know about your schedules, your children's schedules, the, you know, um all the school emails that come in?
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: What about um any holidays you potentially have coming up or want to have coming up?
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: What about um any of your regular recipes or shopping lists or you know, give your, I just call it a PA, give your AI PA a second brain about anything and everything, and then give it some context and say, and the and this context is in custom instructions, and you say you're an expert, a personal assistant for me and my family, you help me stay ahead of everything that I've got coming up, but you also allow me to brain dump and get my thoughts out.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: Often, I I always put often random but very linked.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: And it's your job to work it out.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: Um, and of course, I use AI to help me with those instructions.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: Um, but every day I'm checking in with my PA two, three times a week.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: Sometimes I won't even read emails because I don't know about you, but I have no eye for details, so I'll get an email come through.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: It will be like quite long, maybe from the school, and I'm like, I can't, I can't, like, I can't read that.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: It's normally on a Friday afternoon I get school emails on a Friday afternoon, I think my brain stopped working.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: I have to wait until I've had my morning coffee on a Saturday and my brain has stopped that I go, okay, let's catch up.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: It's so random how they come at random times.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: Anyway, I don't even read the emails now.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: I just copy and paste, put them straight into um my PA.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: I've got it on perplexity, um, but I also have an automation set up from my email to perplexy.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: So um, I don't always have to copy and paste.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: So that's what you help people to is save time so it just automates the process.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: That's huge.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: And yeah, I'll just check in three times a day with my PA about what's come in, what's going on, what I need to action.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: And I'll often have a brain dump as well.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: Um, because yeah, if you look at my notepad, as there's no structure to it.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: It's one to-do list here, one to-do list there.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: They all link somehow.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: And uh my brain is just can't it feels like it's a constant chaos.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: Until honestly, I leveraged artificial intelligence to help me with that.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: It became a collaborative partner, it became a strategic thinking partner.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: And um, since then I've gone on and helped others do that in life and business.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: And uh yeah.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: Because you've walked that path, you know what it's like, and you have figured out what works for you and what doesn't in the different platforms.
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of different AI platforms.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: You say you use perplexity.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: Um have you tried the different ones?
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: And why is it that you landed on perplexity?
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: Uh I think like everybody, I started with ChatGPT.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: Um, I actually use ChatGPT to this is a bit of a my story.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: Um, I used Chat GPT to um change my business model.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: So I have a franchise model.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: Um, I was a franchise or and I was looking for franchisees, and it was tough.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: It was a tough market.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: And uh I just didn't love the way the model was, and I just thought there's got to be a better way to do this.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: So worked with ChatGPT over a couple of weeks um and then come up with a new business model.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: So now I sell business partnerships.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: People co-found a region with me.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: So instead of selling the whole part of the business and trying to find somebody that's you know as motivated and dedicated for me as me, so that you know there's enough royalties in there.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: I'm like, all right, let's co-found it together.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: That accountability's there.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I use ChatGPT to do that, which is amazing.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: I use Claude um a lot.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: I do love Claude, um, absolutely brilliant at writing, so good at strategic thinking.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: Um, and and you can really go back and forth, I think, with Claude to even if you think that you know it's just a little bit of an idea, but I don't really know what that's gonna equate to.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: So um, an example of that was um I do quite a lot of networking, and I was like, oh, there's gotta be a way to it to enrich the connection you have with someone, right?
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, instead of like, how's the weather or you know, how many children do you have?
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: I don't know, just get past that surface level stuff.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's like there's gotta be a way, there's gotta be like some set of questions that dig deep.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: And you know, it was just a bit of an idea with Claude, and then you know, quite a few conversations later, you know, Claude and I collaborated, and I have a now I have a strategic, it's called in um uh an insight, strategic insight networking tool that I, you know, upsell to networking things.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: So, you know, it's just it's such a good tool to take just a thought or an idea, or you you know, when you you've got those little ideas, but you can't see the end.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: You don't know what it's gonna look like at the end, but you know it's such a good idea.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: So Claude's amazing at that.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, and then Gemini, as I've already mentioned, we use Gemini a lot.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: My eight-year-old loves Gemini.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: We build little apps on Gemini.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: Um, we have fun with the image tool, Nano Banana.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: We put ourselves on a beach.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: We're going to Dubai at Christmas, so we took a photo, selfie in the bedroom, and then put ourselves on the beach and it was really fun.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: Um, and then my other go-to is perplexity, like I said.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so they all have just a little bit of a different would personality.
- 9:53SPEAKER_01: I don't know if you can see a personality with an AI, kind of.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: Flavor to each, you know, like Claude is a is a better writer, maybe.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: Um Yeah, but I think the great thing about generative AI is you can customize.
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: So again, the more information you give it, the more instructions you give and context, you know, the better it's gonna perform.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: And they're getting better, like even three months ago to what they can do now is amazing.
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: And just earlier last week, you know, ChatGPT 5.1 was released, and it's already, you know, hands over five, which was only released like three months ago or something.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: So so they're forever improving.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: And I said this in a talk I did earlier on today that I think we're honestly at the stage, AI is at the stage of what when we had the first iPhone, so like iPhone 3, roughly, right?
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: And iPhone 18 is about to be released.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: So that's how far the iPhone technology's come.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: But because AI is like quadrupling every three months, roughly, you know, the timeline that goes from you know, the three point to the 18 is going to be so much shorter.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: So um yeah, I think the capabilities are just are just exploding constantly.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: And um the ability for us, I don't know, as humans, to to just I often feel superhuman when I'm using any any AI tool, it doesn't matter which one it is, ChatGBT.
- 11:18SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, I feel superhum sometimes.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: I I really honestly feel like it amplifies my intelligence.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: And I think going through school, having an undiagnosed ADHD, I definitely felt different and I definitely felt dumb.
- 11:32SPEAKER_00: I just didn't learn the way other people learn, and I honestly thought I was dumb.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: And then, you know, fast forward, became quite good at sport, became P teacher, kind of even didn't feel super academic, you know, being a teacher either, and then start your own business, and then all of a sudden, you've got to do everything.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: And then, gosh, and yet thrive, yeah, and then having children, and then you know, now juggling it all.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: And there's definitely times where I be like, I can't do it all, I can't do it all.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: And then now I feel like, you know, I don't want to overwhelm anyone, but I have 28 AI assistants that help me, and I have quite a few agents, automation set up, and you know, but I am further on my journey than many people, so I understand that.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: But I honestly, uh yeah, using AI has changed my life in so many ways.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: I that's beautiful.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: Um and I think, you know, looking back at school, when everything is it's this and then this builds on this, and then this builds on this, and this builds, or you know, maybe it builds this way.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: But with our brains, we see things over here and we see this over here, and we make all of these real world connections.
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: And with AI, you know, it's still kind of learning things, but we're able to say, what about this and this and this?
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: And like smash it all together.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: And AI is like, oh yeah, I can see how that's all related, and here's how.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: And you're like, I knew it.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: I knew that was Yeah.
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: And so I just think it's a fascinating time really for those of us with ADHD brains because we're already understanding how AI is working.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: And um, I know that a lot of people are ready to implement that into their life.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: Question though, I know a lot of people are still like, AI, I don't know.
- 13:21SPEAKER_01: I'm kind of nervous about using it.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: So, what would you say to someone who is just not quite sure if they should be using it or not?
- 13:33SPEAKER_00: Um I'm probably gonna sound a bit brutal.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: So I'm gonna say with love, um, AI is not going anywhere.
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: Um the children my children are four and eight, and they are gonna get through secondary uh education, uh, university, and life, and they won't know a life without AI.
- 13:52SPEAKER_00: Um, just like the generation before didn't know a life without social media.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: And, you know, the generation of the 2000s, they didn't know a life without the internet.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, uh my generation, I didn't know a life without, you know, I don't know, 20, 20th century cars, you know, with you know, like that it is.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: We're in a digital transformation, you know, everybody, everybody, all generations have been through it, from horses to cars, you know, from hand picking labor to using manufacturing, from white pages and yellow pages to the internet, you know, from the dial-up phone to the smartphone.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: Like the the reality is that we are in a world where we now all have access to generative AI.
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: It is changing the world in many, many, many ways, not just in business, but in life.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: We will all have robots within five years' time.
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: We'll have robots within the house.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: Within five years' time, we'll have driverless cars.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: Um, within five years' time, we'll have AI agents that are able to do our shopping online.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: They'll be able to make appointments for us, they'll, you know, you know, I don't know, maybe even uh ring your mom, mother-in-law and say happy birthday, right?
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: Like we'll get to a point where in your voice.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, in my voice, yeah, yeah.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: So we'll get to a point where, you know, we artificial intelligence will be the way of life.
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: Now that I'm not saying I'm not sitting here and saying it's all going to be amazing, because the reality is with any technology, there are pros and cons.
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: I mean, it took, I can't remember the exact years, but it was 20 something years before the cars had seat belts and people stopped dying from car accidents.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: You know, that is just an example.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: You know, there's if we look at social media, there are so many pros, but there are so many cons related to social media.
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: And, you know, so pros and cons of everything.
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: Uh, my opinion is it's not going anywhere.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: Um, learn how to use it, enjoy using it, become an ethical user of AI.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: And for me, that is uh a few things.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: Number one is know the security risks related to AI.
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: Uh, the second thing is uh remember that we are part of human history in which we're training AI.
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: So generative AI developed through the knowledge that humans had initially.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: And at the moment, unfortunately, um, there are not enough people adding in what I call their domain expertise, their knowledge, their experience, and their perspective on something because a human.
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: And because we're not adding that in when using an AI, the AI is writing AI content and training on that AI content.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: So we're starting to dilute our human um implementation and you know, adding in again our domain expertise.
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: And and I don't know about you, but I really don't want my four-year-old getting to university and learning off an AI without any human element in it.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: So I do think that we should use it ethically as parents, as leaders in businesses, you know, in anyone in the workforce, learn to use AI by adding in your human expertise.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: And that often just comes with having a conversation with, you know, like I said, Gemini or ChatGPT.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: Have a conversation, have the AI try and work out how you talk, how you respond, what you like, what you don't like.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: Let's keep training the AI models so that it it can keep developing with us.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: And then my third thing is, you know, unfortunately, I don't think I don't think it matters where you are in the world, but the education system is behind in many ways, especially when it comes to learning styles, um, especially with um ADHD or um learning difficulties or SEN.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: You know, the education system can't catch up, catch up.
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: It's very old, out outdated, industrialized.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: You know, that's what it built people for.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: So for the nine to five, yeah, the industrial workers.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: And there's no gonna be no nine to five in, you know, give it five, ten years.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: You don't need a nine to five when you've got agents working for you 24-7.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: So, you know, we're gonna have to change.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: I think the education system's gonna be slow to catch up.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: So, therefore, you know, as leaders of your family, you know, why not take your children along your journey?
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: How are you using AI, why are you using it the way you do it, and have your children think differently?
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: Like my eight-year-old again, she's very inquisitive, but she's built a learning language app, she's bought built herself a maths app.
- 18:13SPEAKER_00: I mean, and when I say app, all it is is she's gone into, I think we use Claude for one, we use Claude for the maths one, and she creates something called an artifact, and she just goes in and she just says, I want to do a rhythmic maths.
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: Um, I need 60 seconds worth of questions, I want it to be gamified and it needs to be this level.
- 18:31SPEAKER_00: You know, Claude goes and creates it, and she just played with it.
- 18:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so you just say what you want.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: All right, so I'm gonna pause the episode right here because we ended up talking for 40 minutes.
- 18:42SPEAKER_01: Marnie is such a wealth of information, and I hope you've enjoyed this conversation we've had this far, and we're gonna release the rest of that next week.
- 18:51SPEAKER_01: Well, I know sometimes um life can be kind of chaotic, right?
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: And so that's why I created this is so we have some kind of simple resets to reduce all of the overwhelm that we experience every day.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: It's already hard being a mom, but a mom with ADHD brain just takes it to the next 10 levels, right?
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: So if you go to the adhdmom.com, I've created something for you.
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: It's just called the four-minute reset.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: It's a free four-minute audio file that just helps you breathe, clear the mental noise, and find your next small step.
- 19:27SPEAKER_01: So if you feel like you're just caught, you're stuck.
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: It's a really great way to just take that four minutes to reset your brain.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: And hopefully by the end of that four minutes, you've got a little motivation.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: Well, maybe not motivation, but an idea of where you need to go next just to keep yourself moving forward.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: Again, you can find that at theadhdmom.com and download that four minute reset.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: Well, I hope you have a wonderful week and uh we'll see you next time.
