- 0:00Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Here, I'm the one that got Alex Sports Network. I
- 0:10Speaker 2: am a little discouraged today because I read the Washington
- 0:15Speaker 2: Post seven games, seven games that they evaluated when taking
- 0:22Speaker 2: down this organized crime gambling ring. But before we get
- 0:26Speaker 2: to our guest, lou Terminello, I have to run through
- 0:28Speaker 2: this with you because this Johonte Porter of the Raptors.
- 0:34Speaker 2: In a couple of instances like January twenty six, twenty
- 0:36Speaker 2: twenty four, Porter Talid zero points, three rebounds and one
- 0:42Speaker 2: assist in four minutes off the bench before exiting with
- 0:46Speaker 2: an eye injury. He informed an associated before the game
- 0:49Speaker 2: he planned to exit early. I have a big problem
- 0:53Speaker 2: with this instance alone, because where is the coach at
- 0:57Speaker 2: four minutes in to a game except this issue? And
- 1:03Speaker 2: then it throws off fantasy basketball teams, It throws off
- 1:06Speaker 2: the integrity of sports. And yesterday I know, I said
- 1:09Speaker 2: the league should just let the players deal with it,
- 1:12Speaker 2: but this crosses a line when they don't even play
- 1:16Speaker 2: more than a quarter, even half a quarter, four minutes
- 1:20Speaker 2: off the bench, and then you set yourself down and
- 1:25Speaker 2: then you tell people, by the way, you know how much
- 1:27Speaker 2: amazing about this about one hundred thousand dollars to sit
- 1:30Speaker 2: their ass out of the game. Lou Terminello, if I
- 1:34Speaker 2: called in sick for one hundred thousand dollars, I'd take that.
- 1:37Speaker 2: This is ridiculous and it hurts the sport, and it
- 1:41Speaker 2: makes me question everything we see about the game that
- 1:43Speaker 2: instance alone in any sport. Now, Louis and.
- 1:47Speaker 3: Alex, good to be back with you as somebody who
- 1:51Speaker 3: was in the NBA for twenty eight years, Yesterday was
- 1:54Speaker 3: not a good day. I know, I know some pundits
- 1:58Speaker 3: are trying to downplay it, but yes, there was not
- 2:03Speaker 3: a good day for the NBA and it was not
- 2:05Speaker 3: a good day for sports in general.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Because you got to remember this is this is nothing new.
- 2:10Speaker 3: I mean, we can go back to nineteen nineteen when
- 2:12Speaker 3: the Chicago Black Black in the Chicago Black Sox, you know,
- 2:18Speaker 3: fixed the nineteen nineteen World Series. In the nineteen fifties,
- 2:22Speaker 3: the college basketball scandal basically which closed down a lot
- 2:28Speaker 3: of college basketball in New York after CCNY won both
- 2:32Speaker 3: the NCAA Tournament and the n I in the same year.
- 2:36Speaker 3: The Boston College point shaving scandal of about thirty years
- 2:40Speaker 3: ago was I'll never forget the night of that Sonny
- 2:46Speaker 3: Liston took a dive in Lewiston, Maine. So and Muhammad
- 2:52Speaker 3: Ali had no idea that Sonny Listening was going to
- 2:55Speaker 3: take take the dive allegedly. So, I mean, it's been
- 2:58Speaker 3: going on for a long time, but you think with
- 3:04Speaker 3: everything being more sophisticated now, it wouldn't have gotten to
- 3:10Speaker 3: this point. I mean, you have a Hall of Fame
- 3:13Speaker 3: head coach, well, he was a Hall of Fame play
- 3:15Speaker 3: he certainly wasn't a Hall of Fame head coach, but.
- 3:17Speaker 1: A Hall of Fame player.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Who's an NBA head coach, one of thirty, uh job
- 3:22Speaker 3: only thirty jobs in the league, rigging up bringing poker
- 3:27Speaker 3: poker games. It's just mind boggling. And he'll he'll never
- 3:33Speaker 3: he's done. I don't think you'll ever see uh Chauncey
- 3:37Speaker 3: Billups again coaching, broadcasting, doing anything that's connected.
- 3:42Speaker 1: With the with the NBA Alex. But this is serious.
- 3:48Speaker 3: I mean, let's face these bank scandals have been going on,
- 3:51Speaker 3: as we said, for a long time, but you know,
- 3:54Speaker 3: in the last couple of years, it's exasperated because we
- 3:58Speaker 3: knew when state started legalizing sports vetting and a sports
- 4:02Speaker 3: league started taking in millions of dollars of sports gambling
- 4:07Speaker 3: sponsorships that contribute contributes to the situation that brings attentions
- 4:13Speaker 3: to gambling. When I was working in the NBA, we
- 4:16Speaker 3: were prohibited from any type of gambling type sponsorships, even
- 4:24Speaker 3: with casinos down in Atlantic City. You know, we had
- 4:27Speaker 3: to get permission from the NBA, and you know there
- 4:32Speaker 3: was always that fine.
- 4:34Speaker 1: That that fine line. But again, Alex, just because.
- 4:39Speaker 2: So you weren't reallying information to an informant that a
- 4:42Speaker 2: Jason kidds sitting out for today, I'm glad you did
- 4:44Speaker 2: not do any of that. Okay, Lily, because this is ridiculous,
- 4:47Speaker 2: and the fact that these coaches didn't even know what
- 4:50Speaker 2: was happening, or dare I say, let it happen? I
- 4:52Speaker 2: mean your you're coach, right, and by the way, your
- 4:55Speaker 2: coaches back in that era were fantastic. So let's go
- 4:59Speaker 2: to Laurence Frank Right. If someone get up the door
- 5:01Speaker 2: to say, I gotta sip before you know, for the
- 5:03Speaker 2: rest of the game, wouldn't you look at your player guy, like,
- 5:06Speaker 2: what do you mean you said the rest of the game.
- 5:07Speaker 2: It's only the first quarter. It doesn't make sense to
- 5:10Speaker 2: me that they allow these guys to do it. But
- 5:12Speaker 2: you've said this before. Players are getting more control in
- 5:15Speaker 2: general of their team more than the coach, it seems.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Like it is.
- 5:20Speaker 3: And that's that's an NBA issue more than probably probably
- 5:23Speaker 3: the other leagues.
- 5:26Speaker 1: But this opens up a whole can of worms.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Look, the Washington Wizards, the Utah Jads are tanking, and
- 5:34Speaker 3: the Brooklyn Nets are tanking for the second straight year.
- 5:38Speaker 3: The Brooklyn Nets only wanted to tank one year, but
- 5:41Speaker 3: they had They had still had some decent players on
- 5:44Speaker 3: the team. They got loaf to that that non intense start,
- 5:47Speaker 3: and then they started trading the few NBA level players
- 5:50Speaker 3: that could win a couple of games, and they won
- 5:52Speaker 3: too many games up on twenty six this year, Alex,
- 5:55Speaker 3: they're making sure that they can't win more than twelve
- 5:57Speaker 3: or thirteen games. So other Washing and Wizards and h
- 6:03Speaker 3: that's a problem also on the other end.
- 6:05Speaker 2: But are you are are you wondering? Okay, is the
- 6:07Speaker 2: coach telling someone that they're tanking the team on purple?
- 6:10Speaker 3: I mean this would judge well again in the case
- 6:12Speaker 3: of Utah and even worse, Washington and and the Nets.
- 6:18Speaker 3: Their talents is so bad that the only tanking that
- 6:22Speaker 3: can happen is hey, are you gonna be over and under?
- 6:25Speaker 3: Are they gonna win more than fifteen games? I mean,
- 6:28Speaker 3: none of these none of these nineteen year olds. I mean,
- 6:31Speaker 3: yes they could, they could get caught up in it,
- 6:35Speaker 3: but they're just bad teams. And but again, even when
- 6:39Speaker 3: I was in the NBA, the Houston Rockets tanked to
- 6:43Speaker 3: get Ralph Sampson and then in those days there was
- 6:47Speaker 3: only a coin flip, so that tanking led to the draft,
- 6:52Speaker 3: the lot to draft lottery, excuse me, and the Knicks
- 6:57Speaker 3: run the first draft lottery. They were supposed to pick
- 6:59Speaker 3: like seven eighth and they or something whatever that was
- 7:02Speaker 3: also to pick.
- 7:02Speaker 1: The Knicks won the draft lottery.
- 7:04Speaker 3: Everybody thinks that Patrick Ewing draft was rigged because the
- 7:09Speaker 3: Knicks had been bad for so long.
- 7:11Speaker 1: And it's not like now. In the mid eighties, UH
- 7:15Speaker 1: the NBA, which was involved with all those drug situations,
- 7:19Speaker 1: including the lifelong suspension of of UH one of our players.
- 7:24Speaker 3: Michael Ray Richardson, the NBA was not the behemoth that
- 7:28Speaker 3: it became in the nineties, and people thought that that
- 7:31Speaker 3: draft was fixed because they needed New York to become
- 7:35Speaker 3: to become a good team, which they eventually did.
- 7:39Speaker 1: I don't know for sure. I heard, you know, you
- 7:42Speaker 1: heard all kinds of all kinds of crap. But it's
- 7:48Speaker 1: not good.
- 7:49Speaker 2: I'm nervous to say. I have to look at every
- 7:52Speaker 2: foul call made now, I have to look at every
- 7:55Speaker 2: time of present time on the court, like it all
- 7:59Speaker 2: gets scrutin Guys, now moving forward with this big bombshell, Well,
- 8:03Speaker 2: how do we not stay skeptical and optimistic about the
- 8:06Speaker 2: sport when this happened. It's very tough to have that
- 8:09Speaker 2: optimism right now.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Well becoming skeptical and when the paying customer, and you know,
- 8:17Speaker 3: not only in the NBA, these these tickets to go
- 8:21Speaker 3: to a live sporting event, they're astronomical, and once the
- 8:27Speaker 3: consumer starts having doubts about what they're watching, they're not
- 8:35Speaker 3: going to pay five hundred dollars, seven hundred and fifty
- 8:38Speaker 3: dollars for not even the best seat in the house,
- 8:41Speaker 3: you know, to see the Charlotte Hornets play the Atlanta
- 8:46Speaker 3: Hawks on a Wednesday night in the middle of January.
- 8:50Speaker 3: I mean, you could full of people summer time, but
- 8:53Speaker 3: eventually that's going to catch up with them.
- 8:57Speaker 2: And it's now really and I know the Donnahy thing
- 9:01Speaker 2: was was sort of a blipped on everybody's another blip,
- 9:04Speaker 2: but we.
- 9:05Speaker 1: All was was kind of a blip. You're right.
- 9:08Speaker 2: We always thought that was the extent of it. But
- 9:10Speaker 2: let me ask you this league, when these leagues partnered
- 9:13Speaker 2: with the sports books of our time right now, did
- 9:18Speaker 2: they really honestly think it was only going to be
- 9:20Speaker 2: emboldening the average fan? Did they not even think the players,
- 9:24Speaker 2: I mean, Calvin Ridley in twenty twenty two didn't bet
- 9:26Speaker 2: on his team, but he got suspended for betty.
- 9:29Speaker 1: A year he might not spend for a year.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Did these leagues think the players are going to be
- 9:34Speaker 2: that innocent? They wouldn't even you know, being boldened to
- 9:37Speaker 2: do something on their own.
- 9:39Speaker 1: No, the leagues didn't believe that that players were that innocent.
- 9:41Speaker 3: But you know what they you know what they only
- 9:43Speaker 3: care about, Alex, the millions of dollars that these sports
- 9:48Speaker 3: sponsorships brought into the team. I was talking to somebody
- 9:53Speaker 3: w works for an NFL team, and this was going
- 9:55Speaker 3: back three or four years when the sports sponsorship the
- 9:58Speaker 3: gambling sponsorship were just starting, and he told me that
- 10:03Speaker 3: they split the category up like five or six different
- 10:07Speaker 3: ways so they can get five or six different sponsors
- 10:12Speaker 3: because you know it's all about the Greenbacks, and at
- 10:16Speaker 3: that time, you take the green Backs and you'll roll
- 10:19Speaker 3: the dice. Well, these and isn't not just the NBA,
- 10:23Speaker 3: the sportss were all the dies. And now they've opened
- 10:28Speaker 3: up a Pandora's box, as they say, you know, and I.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Don't know where this is going to end up.
- 10:35Speaker 2: I was saying about a couple of instances where I wonder,
- 10:38Speaker 2: now if there was a money. First of all, the
- 10:41Speaker 2: ninety four offside that call that might have changed the postseason,
- 10:46Speaker 2: you know, or that that Stanley Cup final, I know
- 10:48Speaker 2: you remember that. And then of course I think of
- 10:51Speaker 2: the guy that took a dive at the one so
- 10:53Speaker 2: he didn't score.
- 10:54Speaker 3: He was he was tackled Alex at the one. Yeah,
- 10:58Speaker 3: he was tackled at the one in that Super Bowl.
- 11:01Speaker 3: I wouldn't be going back that far. I mean, I
- 11:05Speaker 3: think all that stuff just happened.
- 11:08Speaker 2: But about this, this is a joke, but you don't
- 11:11Speaker 2: think the Atlanta defense was paid to not tackle any
- 11:14Speaker 2: Patriot to blow at twenty eight to three league. I mean,
- 11:17Speaker 2: that's when the script theory started to really circulate.
- 11:20Speaker 1: I think it happened.
- 11:21Speaker 3: I think the Atlanta I think the Atlanta Falcons classically choked.
- 11:25Speaker 2: That's why they got tired. Man, they were gassed by the.
- 11:29Speaker 1: But but this is they think the tip of the iceberg.
- 11:38Speaker 3: I certainly hope not and I hope they get a
- 11:41Speaker 3: you know, they strain this thing out because once you
- 11:44Speaker 3: lose confidence with the fans, they're not gonna follow you.
- 11:47Speaker 3: And it's a shame because on Tuesday night, the NBA
- 11:51Speaker 3: UH an NBA regular season as we know is meaningless
- 11:55Speaker 3: and the NBA has to change that.
- 11:58Speaker 1: And part of the reason is tanking. Part of the reason is.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Load management, and uh that leads to a speculation. But
- 12:11Speaker 3: on Tuesday night, nb NBC had its first televised game
- 12:15Speaker 3: since Game four of the first year the Nets went
- 12:18Speaker 3: to the playoffs and got swept by the Lakers. Game
- 12:20Speaker 3: four against the Nets Lakers. The game was great. It
- 12:24Speaker 3: was an old style NBA game. If every game, every
- 12:28Speaker 3: every night could be like that. I know every night
- 12:30Speaker 3: can't be like that, but if that could be consistent
- 12:32Speaker 3: during the season, that's people will love that. Between uh,
- 12:38Speaker 3: you know, Oklahoma City and Houston. It was a fantastic game,
- 12:42Speaker 3: but it's not gonna happen.
- 12:44Speaker 1: We know that. Uh, but it's a shame that on
- 12:48Speaker 1: touch a high and they and the presentation was great.
- 12:51Speaker 3: And then you know, the next night, uh, ESPN started
- 12:55Speaker 3: And now the game on ESPN wasn't the big obviously
- 13:01Speaker 3: it was inside the NBA moving in. They were did
- 13:04Speaker 3: the our pregame show. They did a half hour postgame show.
- 13:07Speaker 3: I didn't see the postgame show was you know, it
- 13:09Speaker 3: was late, like one o'clock. But I watched the pregame show.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Those guys who saw at the top of their game, Alex,
- 13:15Speaker 1: all these good things.
- 13:16Speaker 3: Are not are now going to be overlooked because nobody
- 13:20Speaker 3: wants a sport that's rigged.
- 13:23Speaker 2: They don't how about this? And you know, and you
- 13:26Speaker 2: think about the fact that this arrest of Phillips comes
- 13:30Speaker 2: as they lost what by forty points on oh prey day.
- 13:33Speaker 2: It's just very odd to me that that was so coincidental.
- 13:35Speaker 2: But I tell you, I look at Major League Baseball
- 13:39Speaker 2: and we might be on the pressiposin of something there.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Answer me this. How two Cleveland pitchers get suspended, especially
- 13:45Speaker 2: Manuel Classe, and they get to the postseason. That's unbelievable
- 13:49Speaker 2: in itself, but now class can't even pitch in the
- 13:53Speaker 2: in his Venezuela league. I mean, this could be a
- 13:56Speaker 2: disaster on that. And when when you got pitchers intentionally
- 13:59Speaker 2: throwing a ball, what year you know what that is?
- 14:02Speaker 2: Nineteen nineteen. Almost. Well.
- 14:04Speaker 1: The good thing though, and I got to give the
- 14:06Speaker 1: sports betting sites credit the good thing about that. The
- 14:10Speaker 1: sports betting sites said, hey, we see some irregularities.
- 14:14Speaker 3: And I think it was a cluster in New Jersey
- 14:17Speaker 3: and a cluster in Ohio, all these people winning a
- 14:19Speaker 3: bets in the small a small area, these prop bets
- 14:23Speaker 3: which which are freaking ridiculous.
- 14:28Speaker 1: And they did report it to the league. They did
- 14:30Speaker 1: report to Major League Baseball.
- 14:32Speaker 3: They have they had when they see some some kind
- 14:34Speaker 3: of irregularities that when something doesn't jive and they see shenanigans.
- 14:38Speaker 1: They do report it to the respective leagues.
- 14:42Speaker 3: But again, Alex, just because uh, you know, there's sports
- 14:49Speaker 3: betting sponsors, which I'm against and I was the guy
- 14:52Speaker 3: who sold sponsorships. Again, Alex Scatt's not going to become
- 14:59Speaker 3: a uh a degenerate gambler. If if Alex scaartt if
- 15:04Speaker 3: they brought back smoking advertising, if you start smoking, that's
- 15:09Speaker 3: on you.
- 15:10Speaker 1: If you become a degenerate gambler, that's on you or me.
- 15:16Speaker 1: But it does lead.
- 15:18Speaker 3: It does lead to issues and puts ideas, and people said,
- 15:22Speaker 3: just like uh, and I'm not gonna get political, but
- 15:25Speaker 3: just like these uh now with uh with with Potts,
- 15:31Speaker 3: you know, I mean, look what's happening in Colorado. I mean,
- 15:35Speaker 3: there's so many DUIs and it's not from uh.
- 15:38Speaker 2: From little I've got a bigger question though, because as
- 15:42Speaker 2: you might have heard on my show yesterday, I said
- 15:43Speaker 2: that maybe the leagues don't punish these guys if they're
- 15:49Speaker 2: going to just enable it by all these sponsorships. Maybe
- 15:52Speaker 2: I'm wrong on that, but I just feel like the
- 15:55Speaker 2: leagues should have expected this. Let me put it that way.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Well, Alex, we talked about the last two years.
- 16:02Speaker 3: We expected something to happen like like this, and so
- 16:08Speaker 3: I'm not surprised.
- 16:09Speaker 1: I mean, I got a ton. Yes, that was a
- 16:11Speaker 1: very busy day for me.
- 16:12Speaker 3: So I really don't have a chance to talk voice
- 16:13Speaker 3: or voice to a lot of people have the family
- 16:16Speaker 3: thing going on. But I got so many emails from
- 16:20Speaker 3: even some former clients when I was when I was
- 16:24Speaker 3: working for the NETS, who said, whoa this is you know,
- 16:28Speaker 3: this is big, and.
- 16:33Speaker 2: How do we keep sports spiritual? So I have a term.
- 16:35Speaker 2: I don't have heard me say this before, but I
- 16:37Speaker 2: believe in the term sportsuality because it is sort of
- 16:40Speaker 2: a spiritual thing for me, the love of sports.
- 16:42Speaker 1: I agree.
- 16:43Speaker 2: And this has been as I think about it, hour
- 16:47Speaker 2: after hour, as the stories keep coming out, Louis, it
- 16:51Speaker 2: is sort of taken the wind out of those sales
- 16:53Speaker 2: for a moment. Because I love sports. I never want
- 16:56Speaker 2: to see tainted. And I'm trying again to just not
- 17:00Speaker 2: think of every call and double think the second guess
- 17:04Speaker 2: to the triple guess. You know what I mean, It's like,
- 17:06Speaker 2: it's very odd. Well, how about this, if you're right
- 17:09Speaker 2: if a guy missed a free throw, was he paid
- 17:11Speaker 2: to mister free throw? I mean, you know, it's just
- 17:15Speaker 2: it's what we're gonna start thinking as a society. I think, and.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Basketball as a sport, just because as a sport.
- 17:22Speaker 1: I'm not saying these these players are crooked.
- 17:24Speaker 3: But the nature of the sport there are more, uh
- 17:29Speaker 3: opportunities to be skeptical about if this is legit, Like
- 17:35Speaker 3: you just said, a miss free throw a referees call. Look,
- 17:41Speaker 3: I mean, we can go back to last year's playoffs. Well,
- 17:44Speaker 3: at the end of well, I guess it would have
- 17:47Speaker 3: tied up this yerares because it was Game four.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Oh yeah, your favorite call that was not.
- 17:51Speaker 3: Called the guy, right, I mean, so of course you
- 17:56Speaker 3: from now on, Alex, Yeah, it'll be in the back
- 17:59Speaker 3: of our mind.
- 17:59Speaker 1: It'scuse me, it'll be in the front of online only
- 18:02Speaker 1: see that.
- 18:03Speaker 3: And that sucks because like you, it's I love the sport.
- 18:10Speaker 1: That's why I love the sport. That's why I've been uh.
- 18:12Speaker 2: And I mean I love sports in general. This is
- 18:15Speaker 2: an effect. I mean, I'm just making a joke here, folks.
- 18:17Speaker 2: But let's say Ovi's at eight ninety nine. What is
- 18:21Speaker 2: someone to pay them to be under nine hundred? He's
- 18:23Speaker 2: going to like take them up out. I mean, you
- 18:25Speaker 2: know it makes me my my wander now a little
- 18:27Speaker 2: bit lou the whether the possibilities end or if they're
- 18:30Speaker 2: endless right now.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Yeah, well maybe they are endless right now, and so
- 18:34Speaker 3: they get a hold of it. But when you look
- 18:35Speaker 3: at a guy like Terry Rozier, who's who made like
- 18:37Speaker 3: one hundred and twenty six or one hundred and thirty
- 18:39Speaker 3: six million dollars in his career.
- 18:41Speaker 1: What what the hell are you doing?
- 18:43Speaker 2: Well, that's lord. They're throwing their stats away. They're throwing
- 18:46Speaker 2: their stats away. And I just said before I started
- 18:49Speaker 2: with you, I feel like they're throwing away even fantasy
- 18:52Speaker 2: basketball stats too, if you want to go there. But
- 18:55Speaker 2: they're throwing their own careers away for one hundred thousand
- 18:58Speaker 2: dollars or more, and they're already getting paid millions. It's like,
- 19:01Speaker 2: how much greed do you have to have in your
- 19:04Speaker 2: heart in your mind to literally throw away stats? I
- 19:08Speaker 2: you know, and I think of when and I know
- 19:11Speaker 2: you're gonna say the Giants were nowhere in your playoffs,
- 19:14Speaker 2: but I still think of it. It's almost like Peterson
- 19:17Speaker 2: not putting in hurts when they had a chance to
- 19:19Speaker 2: beat the Redskins. It just is not sports as ethics
- 19:24Speaker 2: to throw away games.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Well, that's different.
- 19:26Speaker 3: That's like what we we said at the beginning of
- 19:29Speaker 3: this podcast of this broadcast.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Uh, that's sports ethics.
- 19:34Speaker 3: Like I think the Brooklyn Nets tanking, and maybe because
- 19:37Speaker 3: I was with the with the Nets all those years,
- 19:40Speaker 3: I think the Brooklyn Nets being totally irrelevant this year,
- 19:43Speaker 3: totally irrelevant and tanking for a second straight year. Washington
- 19:49Speaker 3: Wizards two when Utah also, I guess I think is unethical.
- 19:54Speaker 3: I agree with you, And the NBA has to has
- 19:57Speaker 3: to find a way to to figure this.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Out, okay. So and then also they've been trying to
- 20:03Speaker 2: crack down on know how all these big names are
- 20:05Speaker 2: being sat at different venues and they're trying to find
- 20:08Speaker 2: teams or they have fine teams for sitting stars. I
- 20:11Speaker 2: bet you they did that just on the front of it,
- 20:13Speaker 2: but they probably didn't realize there could be real meaning
- 20:15Speaker 2: to why these guys sit. Now it brings a different
- 20:17Speaker 2: meaning to it.
- 20:18Speaker 1: You know, you're right. So we're gonna we'll see what happens.
- 20:23Speaker 3: I'm sure we're gonna have more names are gonna come
- 20:25Speaker 3: out in the next couple of days.
- 20:27Speaker 2: I see a Nick's favorite ref Scott Foster was arrested
- 20:31Speaker 2: as well, So there's some deal with that. I mean,
- 20:34Speaker 2: everything is gonna come out and we'll see what happens here, Louis.
- 20:39Speaker 2: But I just at the same time, this happens when
- 20:43Speaker 2: the World Series starts, right, and you want to be
- 20:44Speaker 2: excited for that. You want to think every call, every
- 20:47Speaker 2: pitch is gonna be uh kosher if you will right.
- 20:52Speaker 2: You want to think all of it. But then even there,
- 20:55Speaker 2: and I love baseball, you're gonna think to some things.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Well, let's.
- 21:01Speaker 3: Put outside that we think. Let's just we know the
- 21:04Speaker 3: game is gonna be. It's gonna be on the up and.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Up, and I want Manningly to get his ring. I
- 21:08Speaker 2: know Yankee fans are hating me for going for the
- 21:10Speaker 2: Blue Jays for that reason alone, but you know what,
- 21:13Speaker 2: guys been in the league. I didn't realize forty seven
- 21:15Speaker 2: years of baseball, Louis for Don Manningly seven that would.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Be great if he gets it, because there's there's some
- 21:25Speaker 1: talk that this is going to be his last year.
- 21:27Speaker 1: He's gonna retire from baseball. So if he gets that
- 21:28Speaker 1: this year, that would be great.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Alex, It's gonna be hard for the Jays to beat the.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Dodgers for out of seven to make his theories.
- 21:39Speaker 3: To my estimation, I think they got to catch the
- 21:42Speaker 3: Dodgers a little off guard.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Dodgers haven't played in a week.
- 21:45Speaker 3: The Dodgers have obviously, they've turned it on as we
- 21:49Speaker 3: thought that they might. We thought that they were just
- 21:52Speaker 3: goofing off most of the year, which they were, but
- 21:56Speaker 3: they gotta win tonight. They gotta win tonight, Alex. I
- 22:01Speaker 3: think then they have a chance maybe be up to
- 22:03Speaker 3: to one in the series and make it a series.
- 22:06Speaker 2: I mean, it's crazy. I think the Jays offense could
- 22:09Speaker 2: top the Dodger offense. I don't know why I'm saying that,
- 22:12Speaker 2: but they just have this grit, this this timing that
- 22:15Speaker 2: they have had all year long, and the Dodgers haven't
- 22:19Speaker 2: had all year long, you know what I mean? Like,
- 22:21Speaker 2: I don't know, I just feel like the Jay's offense
- 22:24Speaker 2: is in line and in sync right now and they
- 22:27Speaker 2: could do some damage if they get the bat on
- 22:29Speaker 2: the ball.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Now, I agree with you.
- 22:31Speaker 3: I would say offensively, it's a pretty good match. But
- 22:35Speaker 3: when you go to the pitching, both starring and in
- 22:38Speaker 3: the bullpen, uh, the Dodgers have a huge advantage.
- 22:43Speaker 2: So you kid, Sasaki's gonna get his first World Series experience?
- 22:51Speaker 2: How cool? How cool is that gonna be?
- 22:53Speaker 1: Again?
- 22:54Speaker 3: Again that you met you? Another good point? Yeah, it's cool.
- 22:58Speaker 3: But will will he got to the task?
- 23:00Speaker 1: Will he be nervous? You know, these guys are human beings.
- 23:04Speaker 2: You mentioned Blake trying you were kas present, They went
- 23:07Speaker 2: to him, but he's been solid to this postseason, so.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I would be.
- 23:11Speaker 3: I mean when you see Triden come in, if I
- 23:13Speaker 3: was the Blue Jays, I would say, Okay, we got
- 23:15Speaker 3: this is a guy we got to hit.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Well. Yeah, Alex. Before we get off the World Series here, we'll.
- 23:25Speaker 3: Go back to the Game seven on Monday night, the
- 23:29Speaker 3: most excruciating loss probably in the forty nine year history
- 23:35Speaker 3: of the Seattle Mariners. I mean, they were up to nothing,
- 23:38Speaker 3: they were up three games to two, they were up
- 23:40Speaker 3: three to one in the seventh inning, and Dan Wilson
- 23:45Speaker 3: started overmanaging. He took Kirby out there at the four innings,
- 23:49Speaker 3: and then he got to go through a litany of
- 23:51Speaker 3: bullpen relievers. And we talk about all the time, all
- 23:54Speaker 3: these guys aren't gonna be on the top of their
- 23:56Speaker 3: game when you got it, when you're trying to win
- 23:59Speaker 3: a game, trying to get twenty four or five pittures.
- 24:02Speaker 3: Not all of them are going to be on their
- 24:03Speaker 3: game that night. So h that was a terrible loss
- 24:07Speaker 3: for Seattle. That's a game seven loss. Seatle win the
- 24:10Speaker 3: next five World Series. They'll never forget losing Game seven
- 24:13Speaker 3: the other night.
- 24:14Speaker 2: And that guy who was in their division for many years,
- 24:20Speaker 2: George Springer and that guy has had such a resurgence
- 24:23Speaker 2: with the Blue Jays, I thought he was kind of
- 24:25Speaker 2: done after all, while I thought.
- 24:27Speaker 1: I thought he was done, Alex twenty three postseason home runs.
- 24:32Speaker 2: And for that, you know, everybody says the Bati also
- 24:36Speaker 2: Joe Davis comparing that to the uh, the the Carter homer.
- 24:40Speaker 2: I mean, okay, but I always thought Carter's homer came
- 24:43Speaker 2: in such a grand fashion, more more so than this one.
- 24:47Speaker 3: But anyway, you're right, there's there's really the Carter home
- 24:52Speaker 3: run won the World Series for the Toronto Blue Jays.
- 24:56Speaker 1: So the you walk correct, this was this was a
- 24:58Speaker 1: memorable one won't be for gone.
- 25:01Speaker 2: But I think it's even more memorable than the bat
- 25:04Speaker 2: flip and the bat flip at the time.
- 25:06Speaker 3: Yeah, the bat flip, in my opinion, and bat flip
- 25:09Speaker 3: is totally overrated.
- 25:10Speaker 1: I don't give a I really don't care about the
- 25:11Speaker 1: bat flip.
- 25:12Speaker 2: This home run came when they were down by just
- 25:14Speaker 2: two and you know, really a chance to get in
- 25:18Speaker 2: there for the first time since ninety three. Now, I
- 25:21Speaker 2: don't know. I'm going to share the story with you, Lily.
- 25:24Speaker 2: My parents in ninety two took me across the border
- 25:27Speaker 2: to be at the skydomee for the first ever World
- 25:30Speaker 2: Series game outside of the outside of America. So I
- 25:34Speaker 2: do have a bit of history with all that. They
- 25:36Speaker 2: took me to Toronto to see that game against the believe
- 25:39Speaker 2: it was the Braves in nineteen what it.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Was the Brave in ninety two. In ninety three, I
- 25:43Speaker 1: was actually at the.
- 25:44Speaker 3: Old Vet the famous Toronto fifteen Philadelphia fourteen game, which
- 25:51Speaker 3: was just nuts, the highest scoring game in World Series
- 25:57Speaker 3: history to that point, and that was a crazy game.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Dykester hit a couple of home runs and uh uh.
- 26:05Speaker 3: The Jays were down by five going into the eighth
- 26:07Speaker 3: inning and they rallied for six.
- 26:09Speaker 2: That was the cruck Era, I believe right. I think
- 26:11Speaker 2: that was the joke.
- 26:13Speaker 1: The Phils had an excellent team. The Jays, of course
- 26:16Speaker 1: had an excellent team.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Then, speaking of excellent teams, this Jay's team, I think
- 26:22Speaker 2: has been expected to do something big over the last
- 26:24Speaker 2: couple of years because they have this lineup every year
- 26:27Speaker 2: that just seems to dominate in the regular season. They
- 26:29Speaker 2: just have never been able to put it together.
- 26:31Speaker 1: They finished last, so they're they're trying to go from
- 26:34Speaker 1: worse to where they did go. The first, and they're
- 26:37Speaker 1: trying to finish it off by winning this World Series.
- 26:39Speaker 3: But these first couple of games, Alex, they got they
- 26:42Speaker 3: gotta be, they gotta they gotta win the.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Actually, it's good for them that they're home. I mean,
- 26:47Speaker 2: to be at home to start the series.
- 26:49Speaker 3: It takes a big difference. Dante bochett is on the
- 26:52Speaker 3: World Series roster. He hasn't played in almost two months.
- 26:58Speaker 3: I don't know how much he can contribute, so we
- 27:00Speaker 3: have to see what happens there.
- 27:02Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not going to go against the Dodgers.
- 27:04Speaker 1: I have no love for the Dodgers, or I only
- 27:06Speaker 1: really have no love for the Blue Jays either, But
- 27:11Speaker 1: it's gonna be hard to beat the Dodgers four out
- 27:13Speaker 1: of seven.
- 27:14Speaker 2: So uh, maybe people who just want to blackout to
- 27:16Speaker 2: happen and then the game gets called, don't I'm just kidding.
- 27:20Speaker 2: I think it's funny. So thirty years ago we had
- 27:22Speaker 2: to hang on to the roof moment with Don Mattingly,
- 27:25Speaker 2: and I keep going back to this because I just
- 27:27Speaker 2: think it's so poetic. They're under a roof tonight, and
- 27:31Speaker 2: by the way, you had to hang on to the
- 27:33Speaker 2: roof on Monday with that homer. It was loud.
- 27:36Speaker 1: It was loud.
- 27:37Speaker 3: It was loud when he when he hit that, when
- 27:39Speaker 3: he hit that pitch in to the left field stands.
- 27:43Speaker 3: That especially with the roof closed. You know, in the
- 27:49Speaker 3: series against the Yankees, the roof was open and the
- 27:54Speaker 3: sound just stays in the in the dome and it
- 27:58Speaker 3: was deafening.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Well, and I tell you one guy I am excited
- 28:01Speaker 2: that continues to go on because I believe he's gonna
- 28:04Speaker 2: broadcast him from TSN is Dan Shulman. And let me
- 28:08Speaker 2: tell you, I have always loved Dan Shulman in October.
- 28:11Speaker 2: He's always been the voice of October to me. Unfortunately,
- 28:14Speaker 2: you can only do it for one team now, but man,
- 28:16Speaker 2: oh man, hearing him call that homer, it just felt
- 28:19Speaker 2: vintage because I remember him ten years ago when we
- 28:22Speaker 2: even aired them. On nineteen seventy he was doing games
- 28:24Speaker 2: on ESPN Radio.
- 28:26Speaker 3: And he still does your college basketball on ESPN. He's
- 28:29Speaker 3: their number one college basketball guy with Billis. So he's
- 28:32Speaker 3: an excellent announcer. His son is the play by play
- 28:35Speaker 3: voice for the Jays Radio. So you got the father,
- 28:40Speaker 3: the father doing the play by play with sports net
- 28:45Speaker 3: Buck Martinez. He's a color commentator and his son is
- 28:49Speaker 3: the play by play going on radio and Alex if
- 28:52Speaker 3: you listen to his son on radio, he sounds just
- 28:55Speaker 3: like his dad. And he's a good announcer. He's a
- 28:59Speaker 3: good play by play announce it. So it will be
- 29:01Speaker 3: an exciting World Series. And I hoped that Jay's won
- 29:04Speaker 3: a couple of games who make it an exciting World Series.
- 29:07Speaker 3: If the Dodgers go home to two games, they're gonna
- 29:09Speaker 3: sweep or win in five.
- 29:12Speaker 2: And you know what, And people may not understand this
- 29:14Speaker 2: logic to me, but look twenty five Yankees. It was
- 29:20Speaker 2: rough regular season and they should have been in the
- 29:24Speaker 2: top seed, but they weren't because they made some dumb decisions.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Oh no, I had a feeling Toronto was going to
- 29:28Speaker 2: beat the Yanks this world this Alds. I just had
- 29:31Speaker 2: that feeling. You just you just felt it.
- 29:33Speaker 1: Yeah, last year I did too.
- 29:35Speaker 2: But last year the Dodgers embarrassed the Yankees. Why would
- 29:38Speaker 2: you root for a team that embarrassed you on your
- 29:42Speaker 2: home field? They gave five I know they made the errors,
- 29:45Speaker 2: but it was an embarrassment. And and I can't root
- 29:48Speaker 2: for the Dodgers to repeat.
- 29:50Speaker 4: I just cannot, well, Alex, What's what it is is,
- 29:58Speaker 4: YE know, the Yankees and Bluejay you're in the same division.
- 30:00Speaker 3: So I understand that, but I don't think I don't
- 30:03Speaker 3: have to worry about it because I was thinking about
- 30:05Speaker 3: about a week they'll get they'll be getting ready for
- 30:08Speaker 3: a World Series parade. Uh.
- 30:09Speaker 2: And also, I mean the Jays were arrogant, but the
- 30:12Speaker 2: Dodgers really, uh chirped at the Yanks in the off season,
- 30:15Speaker 2: and they did the stupid stuff at the parade and
- 30:17Speaker 2: all that, and they said some things. Uh, it was.
- 30:21Speaker 2: It was a mess last year. And I just and
- 30:24Speaker 2: of course I'm a little better because you say the
- 30:27Speaker 2: Yankees spent the winning championships. But I always say this,
- 30:30Speaker 2: the Yanks never had to do a payment plan to
- 30:32Speaker 2: win a championship.
- 30:34Speaker 3: Again, Alex, I agree with you. This deferred money they
- 30:40Speaker 3: got to take care of that. Bags League Baseball has
- 30:42Speaker 3: to stop that. The Dodgers taking took advantage of a loophole,
- 30:45Speaker 3: which which annoys the heck out of me. But the
- 30:48Speaker 3: team that has that has signed more free agents and
- 30:53Speaker 3: has spent more money and has upset the balance of
- 30:56Speaker 3: competitive baseball since they signed tap this hunder in nineteen
- 31:00Speaker 3: seventy five is your beloved New York Yankees.
- 31:04Speaker 1: And that's case closed. But again, it's until Major League
- 31:09Speaker 1: Baseball somehow has a salary cap and they never will.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Well, so I guess this the Yankee spending led to this,
- 31:16Speaker 2: the luxury tax, that was the first thing. Yeah, but
- 31:20Speaker 2: what will the Dodger spending lead to? It could actually
- 31:22Speaker 2: lead to a lockout, I'm hearing.
- 31:24Speaker 1: So I think I think it's a pretty good chance
- 31:27Speaker 1: of a lockout Alex at the end of next year,
- 31:29Speaker 1: which would suck.
- 31:31Speaker 2: I mean, if you follow the trajectory of that. We
- 31:34Speaker 2: know that the back and forth about the twenty twenty season,
- 31:38Speaker 2: I knew was gonna have ramifications down the road as well,
- 31:41Speaker 2: including the spending by the Dodgers. But they were forcing
- 31:44Speaker 2: these guys to play earlier than they wanted to. It
- 31:47Speaker 2: was a if you followed in hardcore, it was a
- 31:49Speaker 2: messy situation with the pandemic and they haven't recovered since.
- 31:54Speaker 3: Well Manford couldn't work out a deal with with Tony Clark,
- 31:59Speaker 3: the head to play association. Let's face it, Alex, they
- 32:02Speaker 3: should be at least a one hundred twenty game season
- 32:04Speaker 3: that you.
- 32:05Speaker 2: Know, but uh, of course, we saw wins of it
- 32:09Speaker 2: in twenty two when they locked out for the first week.
- 32:11Speaker 2: I mean it was just they delayed a week.
- 32:13Speaker 3: I mean, so well, we'll see, We'll see what happens
- 32:17Speaker 3: in this World Series, and I hope Baseball strains out
- 32:21Speaker 3: this situation. But let's face it right now, the Pittsburgh
- 32:26Speaker 3: Pirates know even before next year begins that they're going nowhere.
- 32:31Speaker 2: So and that's you know, them and the Rockies.
- 32:35Speaker 1: You know, I just I just picked the Pirates the Rockies.
- 32:39Speaker 1: You know, we can go down a little.
- 32:41Speaker 2: We always thought I always thought they included that what
- 32:43Speaker 2: sixth team to make it more competitive? I mean, yes,
- 32:47Speaker 2: I think it's inspired markets like Toronto, who almost landed
- 32:50Speaker 2: Shoho Tani by the way, I heard that this week
- 32:53Speaker 2: but did but uh but you know, markets like Toronto,
- 32:58Speaker 2: markets like and they didn't do as well, but Temp
- 33:02Speaker 2: all these other markets should benefit from a sixth seed.
- 33:05Speaker 2: That's kind of what I'm trying to say here. And
- 33:07Speaker 2: they don't, none of not all these teams due so,
- 33:10Speaker 2: but I want to go back to this Guardian situation
- 33:13Speaker 2: because isn't it crazy? Class A and this other picture
- 33:16Speaker 2: gets suspended and they make the postseason what does that
- 33:20Speaker 2: tell you? Like, Well, it.
- 33:22Speaker 1: Tells you that the Detroit Tigers were incredibly overrated, and
- 33:28Speaker 1: it also tells you that the American Central stinks. But
- 33:32Speaker 1: also tells you that the Cleveland the Cleveland Guardians have
- 33:35Speaker 1: a good organization and they took advantage of the Detroit collapse.
- 33:42Speaker 2: And it reflects on Class A. I think because the
- 33:45Speaker 2: guy could not get the Yankees out in the ALCS
- 33:48Speaker 2: in twenty twenty four.
- 33:49Speaker 1: Well again class. I mean, if if the Indians had
- 33:52Speaker 1: a excuse me, if the Guardians had a choice, they
- 33:55Speaker 1: wouldn't wind up seeing class. They suspended that.
- 33:57Speaker 3: I could tell you so again. But we'll see what
- 34:02Speaker 3: happens if you'll have a pitch again, if you're just
- 34:04Speaker 3: gonna be suspended for a year or a half a year,
- 34:06Speaker 3: we'll see what judgment is passed down from Major League
- 34:08Speaker 3: Baseball on that.
- 34:10Speaker 1: But you know, that's that's that's life.
- 34:16Speaker 2: All right. Speaking of life, the other night, I was
- 34:19Speaker 2: outside the garden after the Nicks win their home opener,
- 34:22Speaker 2: and Cam Scataboo just walks on right by me. That
- 34:25Speaker 2: was pretty cool. I think he's got a very big
- 34:29Speaker 2: weekend coming. You have to beat the Eagles and I'm
- 34:33Speaker 2: gonna say it again, three and five still sounds competitive
- 34:36Speaker 2: to me. Over two and six. They should have beaten Denver,
- 34:40Speaker 2: though this should be a three and fourteen, no doubt
- 34:44Speaker 2: about it.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Louis Alex, I mean I watched the entire game on
- 34:50Speaker 1: on on Sunday afternoon.
- 34:52Speaker 3: That I that was a historic defeat, the worst NFL
- 34:57Speaker 3: defeat of the year. The Giants were again dominant for
- 35:01Speaker 3: three quarters. Bo Nicks was playing his third straight bad gang,
- 35:06Speaker 3: even though Denver had won the previous two against Philly
- 35:12Speaker 3: and against the Jets. But he was doing nothing. And
- 35:17Speaker 3: then you give up thirty three points in the fourth quarter,
- 35:20Speaker 3: and the Giants helped them. I mean, there was three
- 35:23Speaker 3: delayed game penalties on Dart and again, I don't know
- 35:29Speaker 3: what happened here, Alex. They're up twenty six to sixteen,
- 35:32Speaker 3: four point fifty three to go in a game.
- 35:35Speaker 1: It's third and five. Denver had used their two timeouts
- 35:38Speaker 1: on the previous.
- 35:39Speaker 3: Two plays, and I don't know if Dark checked off,
- 35:44Speaker 3: if the play came from Mike Kafka, the offensive coordinator.
- 35:48Speaker 1: I have no idea what happened on that play. And
- 35:50Speaker 1: Dark threw an interception which set up the the Broncos
- 35:54Speaker 1: at the nineteen.
- 35:55Speaker 3: If you run the ball, the Broncos pulled their time out,
- 35:58Speaker 3: you punt the ball and Denver has to go seventy
- 36:01Speaker 3: five eighty eighty two.
- 36:03Speaker 1: Yards to score with no timeouts.
- 36:05Speaker 3: But the h that interception by Justin Strenad, who's an
- 36:11Speaker 3: excellent player by the way, back to the nineteen, and
- 36:15Speaker 3: the Denver scores right away. That that's that's money boggling.
- 36:23Speaker 3: You're up ten and you take a chance like that,
- 36:31Speaker 3: and then you know, the Giants got breaks after they
- 36:33Speaker 3: got a break, and they got a break on that
- 36:35Speaker 3: roughing the patcher call. I mean giants, Franklin Mars just
- 36:39Speaker 3: basically bumped into Dart and they threw roughing the passer
- 36:44Speaker 3: and then that passing that that passing.
- 36:45Speaker 1: Interference down the right sideline heights. I wouldn't want to
- 36:48Speaker 1: be a cornerback. You can't even touch the guy with
- 36:52Speaker 1: a pinky without getting the call. So the Giants take
- 36:54Speaker 1: the lead and even though Dart was ericth oh Dart
- 36:58Speaker 1: left the downfield, No he didn't.
- 37:00Speaker 3: He was one for five fifty four yards came on penalties,
- 37:04Speaker 3: but what e But then the Giant defense, it's almost
- 37:09Speaker 3: like the Dallas game worse because they allowed.
- 37:11Speaker 2: Denver to get And by the way, this is like
- 37:13Speaker 2: three or four games and we're already we're only into
- 37:16Speaker 2: what are they to in So we're only in the
- 37:20Speaker 2: week seven and I'm already saying three or four games
- 37:22Speaker 2: should have gone the Giant's way. That's pretty bad because
- 37:25Speaker 2: I remember last year I said about a total of
- 37:27Speaker 2: four games should have gone their way. Now I'm saying
- 37:29Speaker 2: in the first half of the season, that's that's not good.
- 37:33Speaker 1: No, it isn't.
- 37:35Speaker 2: And by the way, there was no change made. There
- 37:37Speaker 2: was no firing, not a dable of the defensive guy.
- 37:40Speaker 2: I don't know, you'd think they'd have urgency here because, uh,
- 37:46Speaker 2: this is the year you want to see how Dart does.
- 37:48Speaker 2: And I just feel like, again, there's no supporting cast
- 37:51Speaker 2: on the defensive side. It's very odd because they came
- 37:54Speaker 2: into the year one of the best defenses. I thought
- 37:58Speaker 2: coming into the whole season, I mean, come on.
- 38:01Speaker 1: Well, Uh, Thibodeau is in and out. He's inconsistent.
- 38:06Speaker 3: I wouldn't be surprised if the Giants dangle him at
- 38:09Speaker 3: the trade deadline if they lose this week.
- 38:11Speaker 2: He's also been he's recovering from injury. I know that too.
- 38:14Speaker 1: I mean, I thought we'd see more from Abdul.
- 38:17Speaker 2: Carter breaking news. By the way, there is massive fines
- 38:26Speaker 2: for Jackson Dart medical tent issue one hundred thousand dollars,
- 38:31Speaker 2: Dable Giants find two hundred thousand dollars, and scatter Boat
- 38:35Speaker 2: was also fined fifteen thousand dollars for their roles in
- 38:38Speaker 2: violating the protocol with Dark God. Yeah, gets some breaking news.
- 38:46Speaker 3: So they're trying to that're trying to keep these guys
- 38:48Speaker 3: safe and healthy, and I'm gonna I'll dovetail that with
- 38:53Speaker 3: something else before we wrap up here in the next
- 38:55Speaker 3: couple of minutes. But you know, that was that was
- 39:02Speaker 3: a terrible I mean, there's no way to sugarcoat what
- 39:05Speaker 3: happened late Sunday afternoon in Denver because Denver was doing nothing,
- 39:11Speaker 3: doing nothing, and then they scored thirty three points in
- 39:13Speaker 3: the fourth quarter. Alex I actually thought, mathematically as he
- 39:18Speaker 3: got eight or nine minutes to go when the Giants
- 39:20Speaker 3: were twenty six to eight, mathematically it was impossible with
- 39:24Speaker 3: the time remaining for the Giants to lose that game.
- 39:27Speaker 2: It feels like they're finding away every even against the Cowboys.
- 39:32Speaker 2: That's the other heartbreak of this year. You go up
- 39:35Speaker 2: toward the end of the game and then that defense
- 39:37Speaker 2: did not stop him one lick. And I know Jackson
- 39:40Speaker 2: took responsibility for the interception, rightfully so, but.
- 39:45Speaker 1: He's a stand up kid.
- 39:47Speaker 2: But that defense and then you know, the guy gets
- 39:50Speaker 2: cut the kicker. And I always thought they're gonna bring
- 39:54Speaker 2: Coop on, who was actually okay with Atlanta. Why not
- 39:56Speaker 2: just have him kick? Was he on the practice squad
- 39:58Speaker 2: going into that game?
- 39:59Speaker 1: Yes, he will, and they haven't.
- 40:01Speaker 3: I guess Canoe is coming back from injury, but they
- 40:04Speaker 3: I don't think they've made it official yet as far
- 40:07Speaker 3: as putting on the roster.
- 40:08Speaker 2: So so the kicking game was also an issue again,
- 40:11Speaker 2: I mean, it's just this city. This city used to
- 40:17Speaker 2: be one of the most feared places to play. I mean,
- 40:22Speaker 2: any stadium you didn't want to come in and face
- 40:24Speaker 2: the inks in the Mets runs, you didn't want to
- 40:26Speaker 2: come in and face them because they were going to
- 40:28Speaker 2: find a way. I mean, Mojo rising was like an
- 40:31Speaker 2: anthem in the eighth inning. Okay, Giant Stadium, all these
- 40:36Speaker 2: other things. Now it's sort of like when we yokre
- 40:39Speaker 2: and I hate to admit that, but I just well, yeah, no, you.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Bring up a very good point and very good situation.
- 40:48Speaker 3: There was a survey of two hundred and fifty or
- 40:54Speaker 3: something about two hundred and fifty two hundred and seventy
- 40:56Speaker 3: five NHL players. I was spine wanted to survey toughest
- 41:01Speaker 3: place in the NHL to play, Alex, my dear buddy,
- 41:06Speaker 3: And you know, I'm a hockey guy, and I would
- 41:09Speaker 3: have never guessed this one.
- 41:11Speaker 1: All these players said they don't like to play there.
- 41:14Speaker 3: The fans are on top of you, they're into the game,
- 41:17Speaker 3: and it's not a traditional hockey market.
- 41:20Speaker 1: And I was really surprised.
- 41:23Speaker 3: The second place that they don't like to play, that's
- 41:26Speaker 3: tough to play, a challenge to play, is one of
- 41:29Speaker 3: the most traditional hockey markets. But the first one is
- 41:34Speaker 3: the playing the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh. A bunch of
- 41:39Speaker 3: players that they do not like to play there. The
- 41:41Speaker 3: fans are are loud, it gives them an advantage. I
- 41:45Speaker 3: would have never guessed that. The second one was.
- 41:48Speaker 1: In Montreal, where you know they say the fans are
- 41:51Speaker 1: involved in every play, so.
- 41:54Speaker 2: Well, look Cala teams Carolina. I'm not surprised that they
- 41:59Speaker 2: do the whole world of the thing to begin the game.
- 42:02Speaker 2: And I've had some trauma with Carolina, as we all know.
- 42:05Speaker 2: I mean, they've run through almost every New York team here,
- 42:09Speaker 2: so it's it is a very tough environment to play,
- 42:12Speaker 2: I will say that.
- 42:14Speaker 5: And I but I was surprised by I was surprised
- 42:16Speaker 5: by that, uh that they won the survey quote unquote
- 42:20Speaker 5: won the survey, and uh, you know, just real quickly.
- 42:28Speaker 1: Talking about you.
- 42:30Speaker 3: Know, and everybody says nobody gets hurt in a hockey five.
- 42:34Speaker 3: Nobody gets hurt in a hockey five. So you got
- 42:37Speaker 3: the National Hockey League who's always worried about concussions and everything,
- 42:42Speaker 3: and you know, all these especially the old time guys,
- 42:45Speaker 3: say nobody gets hurt in during a hockey fight, which
- 42:47Speaker 3: we know is non since we've seen over the years.
- 42:50Speaker 3: Last night watching a Ranger game, watching I was watching
- 42:54Speaker 3: the Rangers and the Devil, or the Rangers and.
- 42:56Speaker 1: The Islanders Devil's play.
- 42:57Speaker 3: Tonight, Ryan Heave's former Ranger and Rempy get into a
- 43:03Speaker 3: heavyweight fight.
- 43:05Speaker 1: I mean, you talk about a heavyweight fight, a monster fight.
- 43:09Speaker 2: That was it.
- 43:11Speaker 3: And Ryan Reeves gave Rempy four solid rights. I mean,
- 43:17Speaker 3: these were sharp, effective rights and now is injured with
- 43:23Speaker 3: an upper body injury.
- 43:24Speaker 1: There was a rumor going round that he broke his draw.
- 43:26Speaker 1: I don't know if that's true or not because it
- 43:28Speaker 1: has not been confirmed.
- 43:30Speaker 3: Nothing's been confirmed if he has a separated shoulder, whatever,
- 43:33Speaker 3: it is.
- 43:34Speaker 1: The point being people get hurt in hockey fights. And
- 43:38Speaker 1: if the NHL wants to.
- 43:43Speaker 3: Keep these guys from getting these concussions, and again, I
- 43:46Speaker 3: grew up watching hockey and I've been watching hockey sixty
- 43:49Speaker 3: plus years, they might have to finally say, hey, no
- 43:53Speaker 3: more fighting in hockey.
- 43:57Speaker 1: But the Rangers have gone off to a bad start
- 44:01Speaker 1: at first.
- 44:01Speaker 3: You know, first week, I wasn't worried, and I'm not
- 44:03Speaker 3: a Ranger fan by it being worried.
- 44:07Speaker 2: But they don't they really, Oh my god, they look
- 44:09Speaker 2: like they're just they sold out the whole team. And
- 44:12Speaker 2: now it's it's not good. I know they signed this
- 44:16Speaker 2: other guy for eight years or something like that, but
- 44:19Speaker 2: and and you don't have a crier there. You don't
- 44:21Speaker 2: have It just makes you wonder what.
- 44:27Speaker 1: The guys aren't hiring their way to Alex Yeah, but.
- 44:30Speaker 2: The rebuilding process sucks. This is terrible watch of course
- 44:34Speaker 2: it does. It started with Goodrow, then Cocko, then this
- 44:38Speaker 2: guy and that guy, and then Crider to top it
- 44:41Speaker 2: all off.
- 44:41Speaker 3: I am just I wonder if they regret signing to
- 44:47Speaker 3: the you know, to the long term contract.
- 44:49Speaker 2: I meant, and I'd say, it's almost like you put
- 44:52Speaker 2: money in Daniel Jones and let say quad walk. You know,
- 44:55Speaker 2: it's sort of that.
- 44:56Speaker 1: Kind of yeah, well again, we don't want to even And.
- 45:00Speaker 2: I love Adam Fox and and I even he's been
- 45:03Speaker 2: struggling a little bit, but he's still He's someone's got
- 45:06Speaker 2: to be the leader. And I know J. T. Miller
- 45:08Speaker 2: is captain, but something.
- 45:10Speaker 1: Project should have been captain. In my opinion.
- 45:13Speaker 2: The goalless streak was enough. But now they have mean
- 45:15Speaker 2: haven't won at home. I don't even gotten to win
- 45:17Speaker 2: at home? Actually right, no, they have not.
- 45:21Speaker 1: And so yeah, I'm a little I'm surprised at that
- 45:24Speaker 1: playing so so inconsistently. I'll give him a break.
- 45:28Speaker 2: It's poor yact. Oh No, I'm too old, as I
- 45:34Speaker 2: said on my podcast, I'm too old for this ship.
- 45:36Speaker 1: Louis.
- 45:36Speaker 2: I'm just gonna I'm twenty four now. I want to
- 45:40Speaker 2: see another all my all the Glory Days was when
- 45:43Speaker 2: I was a little kid. I want to see it
- 45:44Speaker 2: in adulthood too. It's getting tired.
- 45:47Speaker 1: Hey, hey, I know what you're saying.
- 45:49Speaker 3: Uh.
- 45:49Speaker 1: Meanwhile, the Devils are playing great that six and one.
- 45:54Speaker 1: Jack Hughes has been remarkable.
- 45:57Speaker 3: He's scoring, he he's got as saying, hockey the hot stick.
- 46:01Speaker 3: The other night against Minnesota, who's creating so many chances,
- 46:04Speaker 3: but he didn't score.
- 46:07Speaker 1: The Devil.
- 46:07Speaker 2: By the way, the Islanders had one leg up over
- 46:09Speaker 2: the Rangers because they beat the Oilers, which I found
- 46:11Speaker 2: kind of interesting.
- 46:12Speaker 1: They did both. The Devils also beat the Oilers on
- 46:16Speaker 1: that trip.
- 46:18Speaker 3: Now now San Jose comes in to do the three
- 46:21Speaker 3: team Metropolitan area trip, well, the Devil's the excuse me.
- 46:27Speaker 3: The Islanders beat the Sharks. The Rangers lost to the
- 46:31Speaker 3: Sharks just like they lost to the Oilers, and now
- 46:35Speaker 3: the Sharks are going to be playing the Devil's next.
- 46:38Speaker 3: That a crudential. The Islanders played at the best game
- 46:41Speaker 3: of the year last night. They bounced back from the
- 46:45Speaker 3: only three start. They're now four and three. Matthew Schaefer
- 46:49Speaker 3: is a remarkable young man. I had a tremendous hockey player.
- 46:53Speaker 3: Now I don't know if he can keep playing twenty
- 46:55Speaker 3: five minutes a night like they're doing it.
- 46:57Speaker 1: I don't think so.
- 46:58Speaker 3: They're gonna have probably have to come back cut back
- 47:00Speaker 3: on his time on ice. But in the last two games,
- 47:04Speaker 3: a couple of Dice tried to rough him. Appleton last
- 47:07Speaker 3: night on Detroit tried to rough him up in the
- 47:12Speaker 3: last five seconds.
- 47:14Speaker 1: The entire remaining guys on the ice just terrassed after Appleton,
- 47:21Speaker 1: and they did what they had to do. I mean,
- 47:23Speaker 1: it wasn't no big fight or anything, but they got
- 47:26Speaker 1: in there and they got to protect this kid. I mean,
- 47:29Speaker 1: because he's the real He's the real deal.
- 47:32Speaker 3: He really is, and I could tell after seven games,
- 47:36Speaker 3: but he's playing too many minutes in my opinion, because he.
- 47:40Speaker 1: Doesn't have a lot of meat on his bones. Alex.
- 47:43Speaker 3: He's only he's only eighteen and six weeks old. He's
- 47:46Speaker 3: a kid, but he's got instincts.
- 47:49Speaker 1: For the game. That's all I got for you, my son.
- 47:54Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I know. He that was a big moment
- 47:57Speaker 2: when he scored on the island first. First, it was
- 48:00Speaker 2: cool that they got it at home. It's just I'm
- 48:04Speaker 2: just double checking here to see where we got I mean,
- 48:09Speaker 2: who's their hottest hockey team right now. And I know
- 48:13Speaker 2: it's early to ask you.
- 48:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it's it's early. I mean Florida is
- 48:17Speaker 1: struggling now.
- 48:19Speaker 3: They're playing with out two of their top guys, obviously
- 48:23Speaker 3: not having the heart and soul of their team.
- 48:26Speaker 1: Matthew could chuck there. He won't be there I think
- 48:30Speaker 1: until around Christmas time, you know.
- 48:32Speaker 2: So the team that I like, and.
- 48:35Speaker 3: They lost an overtime last night at Edmonton, But the
- 48:38Speaker 3: team I think is going to get better during the
- 48:40Speaker 3: course of the year, and they did a nice job
- 48:42Speaker 3: towards the end of last year. They're incredibly skilled, and
- 48:46Speaker 3: they're incredibly fast, and they could go from defense to
- 48:50Speaker 3: offense so quickly. So could the Devils. But Montreal, I
- 48:54Speaker 3: believe it is even faster. And I really think you
- 48:57Speaker 3: gotta really look at Montreal as the season progresses. I
- 49:01Speaker 3: think that I think they have a chance to go
- 49:04Speaker 3: deep and you know, we'll see if they can if
- 49:08Speaker 3: they continue that.
- 49:10Speaker 2: And again up in Maye, Toronto World, Austin Matthews his
- 49:14Speaker 2: prime jounning. It's like I get frustrated when I see
- 49:19Speaker 2: all these guys primes being not wasted, but just it's
- 49:23Speaker 2: not going well.
- 49:25Speaker 3: Well yeah, your career is so short, you know from
- 49:29Speaker 3: for most of the players, and the prime of your
- 49:31Speaker 3: career is short.
- 49:35Speaker 1: You don't want to see. Uh these players.
- 49:38Speaker 2: I knew my black Hawks, my my dad's Blackhawks were
- 49:41Speaker 2: in the running year. But Duard's having a better year.
- 49:43Speaker 1: Well again, yeah, they're not going to make the playoffs,
- 49:45Speaker 1: but Alex, they're they're they're on the come.
- 49:49Speaker 2: Mhm, well it's gonna be there four two and two
- 49:55Speaker 2: I think so far.
- 49:56Speaker 1: The Blackhawks, you.
- 49:58Speaker 2: Know, I see that, and Washington still being although they're
- 50:00Speaker 2: in the wild card right right now, I mean it's
- 50:02Speaker 2: too early. That's why hockey talking, basketball talk for me
- 50:06Speaker 2: matter more in in uh, you know, I guess the
- 50:11Speaker 2: Christmas Christmas January. Although with the NBA Cup that adds
- 50:16Speaker 2: a little intrigue. I know you don't really die young, but.
- 50:20Speaker 1: Since you, since you, since you are intrigued by it, Alex,
- 50:23Speaker 1: and I'm intrigued by.
- 50:24Speaker 2: It, well because I always say now people have to
- 50:26Speaker 2: look out for the three runs, the two cup runs
- 50:29Speaker 2: and a Larry O'Brien trophy. Okay, so I always, I
- 50:33Speaker 2: always am optimist. I want to end with some optimism
- 50:35Speaker 2: that maybe something will turn the corner. Maybe Bryce Harper
- 50:39Speaker 2: will become a Yankee in the off season. I don't know. Well,
- 50:42Speaker 2: something's got to give here, Louis, it's been too long,
- 50:45Speaker 2: in fact, five thousand days plus.
- 50:48Speaker 1: Hey, we'll see what happens. I think it's gonna as
- 50:51Speaker 1: I said before, I think it's gonna be very active based.
- 50:53Speaker 2: And that included that includes two World Series appearances. You know,
- 50:58Speaker 2: the Mets in fifteen, Yanks and twenty four and that's
- 51:01Speaker 2: really and I guess the Rangers Stanley Cup final as well.
- 51:05Speaker 2: That's really all three. That's really the three finals that
- 51:08Speaker 2: we've seen in those five thousand days since well, if you.
- 51:12Speaker 1: Want to, the Devil's got there in twenty twelve, the
- 51:17Speaker 1: Rangers of fourteen, the Mets made the World Service in fifteen,
- 51:21Speaker 1: the Yankees last year got to the World Series, and
- 51:25Speaker 1: the Giants.
- 51:26Speaker 2: Since that happened, I think there's only been one appearance
- 51:32Speaker 2: in the playoffs under a table. It hasn't been good,
- 51:35Speaker 2: since you are correct, So I owe my one day, Louis.
- 51:41Speaker 2: Just hope no one gets involved and arrested in a
- 51:43Speaker 2: gambling scandal anymore.
- 51:45Speaker 1: We all not, that's for sure.
- 51:47Speaker 2: And I tell you if speaker keeps putting these drafts
- 51:50Speaker 2: of these sportsbook ads. I might have to ask them
- 51:53Speaker 2: about that. Let's like, come on that we're trying to
- 51:56Speaker 2: navigate against it.
- 51:57Speaker 1: You know, yeah, well again I would, I would be
- 52:01Speaker 1: careful with that.
- 52:03Speaker 2: Louis love you, man, And this is a great episode
- 52:06Speaker 2: of Terminello's take, and we'll do it again soon.
- 52:11Speaker 1: Always my pleasure. I love it, Thank you, Alex, appreciate.
- 52:13Speaker 2: It all right. Well, as I was on with lou Terminella,
- 52:16Speaker 2: a little more research here. Another reason why I would
- 52:18Speaker 2: choose the Jays is because do we really want the
- 52:21Speaker 2: Dodgers to be the team that takes that back to
- 52:24Speaker 2: back title drought in the last twenty five years? Don't
- 52:29Speaker 2: we want the Yanks to still be the only team
- 52:31Speaker 2: in twenty five years to go.
- 52:33Speaker 1: Back to back belly to belly.
- 52:35Speaker 2: As John Sterling would say, I sure as help thinks.
- 52:37Speaker 2: So I'm Alex Garrett. Enjoy the World Series tonight, and
- 52:40Speaker 2: we'll talk to you soon. On one look up Ballet
