Scientists modeled human aging and found that if we could eliminate all aging factors except somatic mutations—DNA changes that occur after birth—humans could theoretically live over 1,700 years. But certain organs like the brain and heart are highly sensitive to these mutations, limiting lifespan to around 156 years. Meanwhile, organs like the liver can regenerate and ignore mutations.
