- 0:00That intro, that new intro's got to go.
- 0:02Yeah, it does. Oh my God.
- 0:05Thank you. Thank you, Lord Anubis.
- 0:08Look, I I had I hadn't heard that intro before because
- 0:11usually I'm in here on the other end and I'm not watching Twitch,
- 0:13but I saw it the other day and I'm like, Oh my God, no, that
- 0:17that I don't know what. Thank you.
- 0:19Thank you. Does not fit the theme of
- 0:21anything. That's so good.
- 0:55Welcome back or welcome for the first time to open Comms radio,
- 1:01the number one call in show based around Star Citizen that
- 1:06airs on Wednesday nights at 9:00 PM Eastern Time.
- 1:09I'm your host this evening Duke Lato the second filling in for
- 1:14our usual host Jar Jar Jabroni and tonight I also have with me
- 1:19on my Co host cosmic hobo. How are?
- 1:23You folks, as you might hear a little under the weather.
- 1:28So my buddy Duke will be doing most of the talking this
- 1:32evening, but I'm I'm here all. Right.
- 1:36That's yeah, really, really inconsiderate of Hobo to choose
- 1:39tonight to start dying and to lose his voice after Jar Jar put
- 1:44all this trust in US, you know, to cover your show while he's
- 1:47away. Well, oops, you can't.
- 1:52Can't control random ass viruses that just decides to invade your
- 1:56body. That's true.
- 1:58You can't if I learned anything from World War Z.
- 2:02No, actually, no. I think you learned from that
- 2:04movie that you can, right? As long as you're sick enough
- 2:06with something else then the virus won't catch.
- 2:10You much preferred the book like I I know that's that is not a
- 2:15popular like that's not an unusual opinion and by any
- 2:21means, but the book was. The book was pretty cool.
- 2:26It was cool. Well, we're going to do our
- 2:29best. You know, Jar Jar's not here, so
- 2:31he left us in charge. And while Jar Jar is away, the
- 2:34children will play. So we're going to try to stay on
- 2:37track here tonight, try not to mess it up too bad, but no
- 2:42promises. Basically, we're going to be
- 2:45relying on our guests to kind of keep us on track probably more
- 2:48than than we will ourselves. Let's see.
- 2:51So tonight we have a question, and the question for tonight is
- 2:58what was our question tonight? Do you remember Hobo?
- 3:01Are you getting crafty in the verse?
- 3:04Are you getting crafty? Well, I would ask you hobo, but
- 3:10I don't I don't want to torture you.
- 3:11So I think we'll probably just start off we'll probably bring
- 3:14up our first guest here. If you've never heard the show
- 3:17before or this is your first time tuning in, feel free to
- 3:22join us, call in, share your thoughts, opinions.
- 3:27You know, we, we have a question of the day, which we try to keep
- 3:29on track with, but we will stray a little bit here and there too.
- 3:33And that's, that's OK. That's, that's how we roll.
- 3:36So we'll bring you up one at a time.
- 3:39We're going to start tonight. He's been on the show a couple
- 3:42times before now. I think we're going to bring up
- 3:47Pluto. Pluto, come on up here.
- 3:52Hello, Hello. Welcome.
- 3:55Pluto, how you doing tonight? I'm doing all right.
- 3:59Excellent. All right.
- 3:59Our question for this evening are you going to get crafty?
- 4:04I would like to get crafty. But specifically in Star
- 4:10Citizen, by the way, I'm not. Expand on that a little bit.
- 4:12Yeah, yes, yeah. What I what I'd like I I doubt
- 4:16the system is going to allow this, but I would love the
- 4:18ability to create like the most garbage weapons that you could
- 4:24conceive of out of the machine and then leave them for people
- 4:27to find or loot out of my backpack.
- 4:32I mean, positively diabolical. Yeah.
- 4:35I mean, I think that's possible, right?
- 4:37Because you could just craft it from very low quality materials
- 4:43and then leave like 200 of them in your backpack so that someone
- 4:47has to go through each one looking for that diamond in the
- 4:50rough. Well, no, that that'd.
- 4:53Be too obvious. The key is to to leave 1 weapon
- 4:56in your backpack that they're guaranteed to take, and then
- 4:59when they use it, it explodes in their hand.
- 5:03OK, wonderful. I imagine that.
- 5:07I like the idea. That might be possible with some
- 5:12of the wear and tear ones that's added as well, right?
- 5:15I mean if they depending on how universal the system is, you may
- 5:19we may very well be able to make a pistol out of pressurized ice.
- 5:27Yeah, that'll be interesting. OK, so as far as your day-to-day
- 5:31crafting in the verse, you picture yourself focusing your
- 5:35time on making others miserable. Indeed, yes.
- 5:41OK, OK. Respectable, I suppose.
- 5:44Yeah, you know, man's got to got to have a coat, so that's good.
- 5:49Got to do some things with all of the misfired products the
- 5:52machine's going to make. Is there any aspect to the
- 5:55crafting that you don't see yourself engaging in?
- 5:59We're all, we're on it, we're all apparently we're all going
- 6:01to have to engage it because the store weapons are just garbage
- 6:04for reasons unknown. It's a pretty typical balancing
- 6:08thing to do is to make the stuff you can buy at the store or loot
- 6:13off of NPCS. Like even even in the tech
- 6:17preview that I was in, because I'm Bucati, there were pistols
- 6:25that the NPCS dropped and they're already at 60% and
- 6:29durability, so they're going that route for that.
- 6:33That seems pretty reasonable for just like pirates and NPCS and
- 6:38stuff. Yeah, they were.
- 6:39Just random NPCS as well. Buying a brand new weapon from
- 6:42the store and it just outright is garbage.
- 6:47I can see, you know you craft one and it's better, but why
- 6:50does the one from the store have to be considered bad?
- 6:53Well, obviously I think the the out of law reason is so that
- 6:57people craft right. But what?
- 7:01What could be an in law reason? Gun control.
- 7:05Control. Well, we can't have that 'cause
- 7:07we have the militia mobilization initiative.
- 7:10Yeah, but we get the surplus. Like we don't, we don't get the
- 7:14good stuff, we get the surplus. I'll see.
- 7:17One thing I can think of, the war effort, they get all the
- 7:20good guns, we get all the stuff, the machine made by accident
- 7:25and. Then we get the leftovers.
- 7:29Oh, hey Duke, you were asking about the the footage that
- 7:34Broccoli made. It's up right now.
- 7:36Nice. See now this so this is footage
- 7:40from a an Idris battle that some of our organics were involved in
- 7:45and some boarding and fighting on the Idris and stuff.
- 7:49So this would be one of those times maybe where having crafted
- 7:53weapons would be pivotal, right? If you have something that fires
- 7:57more bullets per second than somebody else's, you're going to
- 8:00want to have that with you to go boarding I.
- 8:03Gotta use crafted tools in this case because we need to fix the
- 8:08the Idris and it was a mess and anything to.
- 8:14Make it go fast. Do you think we'll be able to
- 8:17craft bigger magazines? I'd love to throw a drum mag on
- 8:20AP8S. E Interesting we.
- 8:23We couldn't craft ammo in the tech preview like it.
- 8:27Was. Now that seems like something we
- 8:28should be able to craft. Yeah, that would be.
- 8:33Yeah, I was going to ask you, Pluto, like, what sort of things
- 8:35do you think that you would actually bother crafting in
- 8:40bulk? And then that question was just
- 8:42answered. I mean, the one thing that I
- 8:43think everyone would bother doing is ammo.
- 8:46Solid gold FS nuns. Wow.
- 8:51OK. It's a choice.
- 8:52I mean the the 9 tails would love them true.
- 8:57I think 3 would love 1. Do we think we'll see more
- 9:00people setting up impromptu shops of their own once we get
- 9:05crafting? Certainly could, but not not if
- 9:08everybody has their own crafter. And the ability to get material
- 9:13true the ability. Because they have the time or
- 9:16the desire. This is true you.
- 9:17Pay to skip, which is what the entire game is teetering on.
- 9:24The differentiating factors are really the blueprints, because
- 9:28everything else, yeah, you can make better weapons that you
- 9:32could sell, but still can the other guy.
- 9:35But if he doesn't have that blueprint of that specific
- 9:38weapon, that's that's something quote UN quote rare enough that
- 9:44might necessitate you to go out and buy it.
- 9:49From the pledge store. Did they talk at all about
- 9:54blueprints being something that we could trade?
- 10:01I'm sure you probably can't trade a pledge one, but ones you
- 10:04earn in game I think those are supposed to be tradable.
- 10:07Yeah, it's when you pick it up, it's tied to yourself, to your
- 10:12person. But I believe the way they said
- 10:16it, because they they love their physicalization, you could then
- 10:19physicalize the blueprint you want to trade, but then you lose
- 10:24access to it, I think is the route they're going with that.
- 10:27And that would be the thing you would trade away.
- 10:31Interesting, I will think. Speaking of people with lots of
- 10:35money, we got a blue blood who's listening in right now.
- 10:39Let's let's call them up. We got a this gentleman that's
- 10:42been on plenty of science before, Lord Anubis.
- 10:47OK. First of all.
- 10:50I have no money. Sorry but you're but you're a
- 10:53blue blood. Yes, but that's due to a lack of
- 10:57oxygen and a leaky heart valve. Oh, all right, so.
- 11:05So how will you get crafty? How will I sorry one second
- 11:11come? To the club, no.
- 11:13Problem. No problem.
- 11:14Cough up a lung or we're all doing it nowadays, apparently.
- 11:19No, I literally had just taken a drink of some water and that
- 11:23fucked me up. Sorry about that.
- 11:25How will I get crafty? Well, I will reference the
- 11:30greatest MMO of all time. That is.
- 11:33Three CU Star Wars Galaxies, and from what I've seen of their
- 11:39previews, they want to go along those routes.
- 11:41So, you know, I will grind the shit out of making various
- 11:49things in order to build up my skills.
- 11:51So my results when I do craft things are higher than others.
- 11:56I will require higher quality materials and people will gather
- 12:02them for me and I will pay them for those higher quality
- 12:04materials. And then they will go, oh, but I
- 12:06want your really cool weapons that you make and you know,
- 12:09like, OK, well, you know, pay me this or bring me these materials
- 12:13I'm making that. It creates a real economy.
- 12:16So weapons crafting or, or, or components crafting, you're
- 12:21going to have to figure out what you're going to do ahead of time
- 12:24because you're probably going to have to specialize in in that in
- 12:27order to be able to get better results, to produce better
- 12:32equipment than other people. That's the driving force of the
- 12:35crafting. If they make it all equal that
- 12:38you can Max out everything so easy that anybody can do it,
- 12:41it's going to ruin crafting. But from what I understand
- 12:45that's that's not the case. We're going to have to level
- 12:47things up so. You're going to have crafting
- 12:50skills in different category. Yeah, yeah.
- 12:55You don't want a weapon Smith that can also do all the, you
- 12:59know, the vehicle shit or the vehicle weapons.
- 13:02Like you'd have to specialize. That's it's the only way to
- 13:07create a player economy that you can have people who stand out,
- 13:13you know, like, oh, go to this guy.
- 13:14He makes the best, the best ship weapons.
- 13:18You know, he's been just grinding away for years and now
- 13:21he has like, the greatest ones you could ever buy.
- 13:24He's expensive as hell, though, you know, if you want that.
- 13:28But you know, there is people who are cheaper who also make
- 13:30good stuff too. You have to have that kind of
- 13:34like gradient in quality and it has to matter.
- 13:38That's the other thing. They have to be relevant to your
- 13:41stats. So if you're running around and
- 13:43you're using Shields that are supposed to be the best and
- 13:49you're just getting, you know, stomped by, you know, Pve, then
- 13:53there really isn't any point to it.
- 13:55So hopefully sick and take care of that part and stop being so
- 13:59fair with everything because you really do have to have skills,
- 14:04you know, and it's not just twitch skills.
- 14:06It's also about, you know, the the components you choose and,
- 14:11and, and the time and effort you put into it.
- 14:12Because if it's just going to be what it is right now, it's not
- 14:16going to work. Well, I think I, I don't know, I
- 14:19think Chris might have something to say about that.
- 14:21I mean, he's showing that he, he definitely wants it to be a true
- 14:25skill based world, right? He doesn't want everything to be
- 14:30based on well, I'm a level 300, so I'm going to be a level 50.
- 14:34No, but if I put 10,000 hours into learning a craft, which,
- 14:38you know, in my real life, I, I do, you know, I'm starting to do
- 14:43more engineering projects for the company that I'm working
- 14:45with. But you know, my, my main job is
- 14:47to put things together and advise on how to, you know, work
- 14:52on scaling that up for full production, things like that.
- 14:57So if I put 5000 hours into that, then I would think that I
- 15:03would have learned how to make a better project than someone who
- 15:07just started and that carries over into the game.
- 15:11Well, you'd think as you say you'd, you'd think that would be
- 15:13the case. Sometimes it's not though,
- 15:16right? And some new guy can show up and
- 15:19he's just got the skills. Yeah, usually that comes from
- 15:23somewhere, though. They don't just have the skills,
- 15:24they learned it somehow. Myself, I learned everything at
- 15:27home, you know, spent five years, you know, just like
- 15:32honing all the little crafts that I have.
- 15:34So when I show up at the job, you know, I know a bunch of
- 15:37things already, but the, the new person who shows up and they're
- 15:41and they're amazing. They didn't just, they didn't
- 15:43just like show up and they're amazing.
- 15:45They spent years becoming amazing.
- 15:48But I think the issue with, you know, the, the skill based
- 15:51system that you talked about is it locks everyone into the same
- 15:55system for learning those skills, right?
- 15:57So it it deletes any chance of someone coming along who's just
- 16:02more capable. Well, I mean, we are talking
- 16:07about avatars in a game, so you know, that that that that that
- 16:11grinding would reflect stimulated real world experience
- 16:18in how to craft things. Because I could show anybody how
- 16:22to paint a panel, but they're not going to necessarily
- 16:25understand the fundamentals of how that paint gets applied.
- 16:28And, and you know, and, and temperature and, and, and, and
- 16:34moisture and things like that that come into, you know,
- 16:37applying the paint is the paint chemistry, correct?
- 16:40Things like that. So in, in the game, things like
- 16:43that would be translated as grinding, you know, because you
- 16:46do get a feel for it. It's not just do this and it
- 16:49does it. There's, there's a lot that goes
- 16:51into everything you do. And part of it becoming a part
- 16:56of your experience is getting that mind body connection in in
- 17:02your skills and that that's experience.
- 17:05So grinding would translate into that as far as better results
- 17:09and stats. Speaking of experience, we have
- 17:13another caller with loads and loads of of experience.
- 17:18Before you bring up our next caller, let me do one of our two
- 17:23ad reads. VIX when you're 6 top of VIX.
- 17:31Please don't rhyme our name with anything else.
- 17:34What? All right, robot.
- 17:37What? Ad was that.
- 17:39That was that was for VIX. Where is VIX?
- 17:42What is VIX? Where is it?
- 17:45I imagine it's sitting on Hobo's counter right now.
- 17:48Yeah, I've got, I've got a couple bags of them.
- 17:51I've got it in my hair. I've got another commercial that
- 17:54was sent over to us. Oh, all right, save it, save it.
- 18:00We still got a lot more. Show to go.
- 18:02We got time, We got time. We can do a 15 minute commercial
- 18:06break. Don't we have another caller?
- 18:09Lots of experience. You know them, you love them.
- 18:12Hopefully. Wicket.
- 18:15Come on up buddy. Citizens.
- 18:18Long time listener, forced occasional caller.
- 18:24Forced. No, I'm not forced.
- 18:28I jump in the clown car willingly.
- 18:30That intro, that new intro's got to go.
- 18:34Yeah, it does. Oh my God.
- 18:36Thank you. Thank you, Lord Anubis.
- 18:41Look, I I had I hadn't heard that intro before because
- 18:44usually I'm in here on the other end and I'm not watching Twitch,
- 18:46but I saw it the other day and I'm like, Oh my God, no, that
- 18:49that I don't know what. Thank you.
- 18:52Thank you. Does not fit the theme of
- 18:53anything. That's so good.
- 18:56So wicked. Are you getting crafty in the
- 18:59verse? Well, not yet.
- 19:00I'm not an EVO, but I've I've consumed a lot of content of
- 19:06folks that are in EVO and have tested the systems.
- 19:12Of course, I've listened to some of what you guys have said and
- 19:16overall I'd love to get crafty and long and short of it is I
- 19:27think it's a good first step from what I've heard so far.
- 19:31But along with the way they're going to do crafting in the
- 19:35future and how quality works, I think it's a misstep.
- 19:42And hear me out. So right now, you know, they're
- 19:46going to the, the, the like you're going to have to get
- 19:48certain components to craft like, you know, you need
- 19:52aluminum, you need, you might need iron, you might need
- 19:58plastic, what whatever the case may be, whatever the ingredients
- 20:01are, and depending on where you harvest those ingredients,
- 20:05there's going to be a quality attached with it.
- 20:08And it seems like the quality is tied to the perceived danger of
- 20:15the system. In other words, Stanton
- 20:17supposedly is the safest area. So anything you harvest there.
- 20:21The quality isn't going to be as high as, for example, if you go
- 20:25to Pyro, where Pyro's a unlawful system and the, the harvest,
- 20:31those harvestables there are going to have a higher quality.
- 20:35And if you use a higher quality component in a recipe, a
- 20:39schematic or blueprint, whatever they're calling it, then you're
- 20:42going to get a better result. So in other words, if you craft
- 20:46a, a, a weapon, if you use low quality components and you craft
- 20:50it and you get a good roll, or I don't know even know how that
- 20:52part of it works. Let's say, if you just use the
- 20:57lowest quality stuff, it's just going to make the same kind of
- 20:59weapon that maybe you get in the store.
- 21:01I don't know the exact particulars, but let's say for
- 21:04say, but then if you go to Pyro and harvest there and you get a
- 21:07higher quality component resources to craft with, then
- 21:12like let's say instead of your rounds per minute out of your
- 21:15gun being 10, now there may be 20 double just hypothetical.
- 21:20We don't really care about the numbers the the the whole idea
- 21:23of it, which that's fine in and of itself.
- 21:27But for example, aluminum, let's say one of the recipe resources
- 21:34that you have to harvest is aluminum.
- 21:36The thing that I find kind of dumb is aluminum.
- 21:39Is aluminum all right? Whether you harvested on Earth
- 21:44or in Stanton or in Pyro or Nyx, why you?
- 21:48Harvested in Great Britain though, because then it's
- 21:50aluminium. Right.
- 21:53That's right. Yeah, you're wrong.
- 21:56Boom. But.
- 21:59The the the atomic nature of the component doesn't change.
- 22:05There's no such thing as high quality aluminum.
- 22:09You know, that's what refining is for.
- 22:10You know, if you harvest something, if you harvest raw
- 22:14ore, right when you go to harvest that raw ore, there may
- 22:18be more impurities in it. So when that you when you go to
- 22:23refine it, you should get less raw ore out of it because it's
- 22:27not as pure. But if you find a higher quality
- 22:30ore, then it should refine to more aluminum.
- 22:35In other words, if you have low. Quality.
- 22:36Aluminum Ore, you harvest it, you you refine it and then you
- 22:41know, you may get like 1 scooey of, of aluminum out of it.
- 22:45But let's say you go to pyro and you find a more pure form of
- 22:49that ore and you refine it. Then you should maybe get A2
- 22:53scooey result or whatever. I'm just using rough rough.
- 22:56Numbers they. Don't have to be exact, but you
- 22:58get the point. Yeah.
- 23:00And then the refining should be what gives you the quality.
- 23:04Yes. Well, where it's refined like,
- 23:06you know, right now, certain certain refineries have bonuses.
- 23:10They've had that forever. You might have a better result,
- 23:14but that also that had to do it at the time when you harvested a
- 23:20mineral. And I know we're talking about
- 23:22harvesting now, but this hall has a point when it comes to
- 23:25crafting. When you harvested the materials
- 23:29and you refined them, you know, every ore that you were, every
- 23:32asteroid or every Rock You mind, whether it's planetary or out in
- 23:36space, had a mixture of elements.
- 23:38And when you refined it, you would get a, you know, depending
- 23:41on where you refined, you get a higher or lower amount out.
- 23:46So that's fine. But now that we're going to go
- 23:48to a single, single, single ore like you, if you go to mine
- 23:54something, it only has aluminum and the inert.
- 23:58So that's fine. But then the refining process,
- 24:02she would dictate what, how good or how much of it you get
- 24:06because aluminum is aluminum or gold is gold.
- 24:10I think where the quality come should come in is the recipe
- 24:14itself, the blueprint. You know, in other games, you
- 24:19get it. You start off with a basic, a
- 24:21basic blueprint and then you research that blueprint.
- 24:24And by researching the blueprint, you know, and it's
- 24:29research is just a process that takes time, for instance, in
- 24:33some other games. And but as you do more research
- 24:37on the, on the blueprint, it becomes better, better.
- 24:41And so how do you make money off that?
- 24:44Well, let's say you could copy the blueprint and like let's say
- 24:49Duke has a has a blueprint for a pistol and I have the same
- 24:52blueprint for the pistol, but mine has three levels of
- 24:54research in it. So the quality of it is going to
- 24:57be two or three 100% better than his just for instance, rough
- 25:02numbers. So I could make a cot.
- 25:04Let's say there's a way to make a copy of that.
- 25:06Now my copy would sell for more than his plain Jane copy.
- 25:10And that's how you can then make money when the crafting game
- 25:14without even making the item. And now let's say if that's a
- 25:18rare resource or it's a limited use blueprint or recipe, you can
- 25:24only make it so many times. And then the the the the rather
- 25:28the schematic degrades to where you can't use it anymore.
- 25:32It's trash. You have to get a new a new
- 25:33copy. That's the other question I had
- 25:36in the in the whole blueprint thing.
- 25:38Or is do they call them blueprints or recipes?
- 25:41What do they call them in in store citizen?
- 25:44They've been calling them blueprints.
- 25:46OK, so the, the blueprints, I know, I think an evil coddy,
- 25:51they gave you some blueprints to to play around with and test,
- 25:54right? And then there was another one
- 25:55that you could don't like you could get from doing a a like a
- 25:59like a evil coddy mission. And then that the reward was a
- 26:02blueprint. They tied it to one of the
- 26:05Ghillie missions. Right.
- 26:07So you did the mission and then you got that, you got that
- 26:10blueprint. Now, I don't know right now and
- 26:13Eva caught it is that you can just reuse that same blueprint
- 26:16over and over and over and over again, right?
- 26:19Correct. And how does it work?
- 26:22Do you just get it in your inventory and you have to have
- 26:24it in your inventory to use it at that, at that, at that
- 26:28crafting station? Or do you have to plug it into
- 26:30the crafting station? It's tied to you, the character.
- 26:34So once you get it in your inventory, it's just part of
- 26:37you. It's like knowledge per SE.
- 26:41Not even really in your inventory it's.
- 26:47It's not a physical thing. So do you consume it?
- 26:50Basically you learned I never did the.
- 26:53Missions to get the to get the ones.
- 26:57I only had the starting ones and Rob and I started in Checkmate
- 27:03SO and the Gilly missions were over in Hurston and I believe
- 27:08ship weapons were broken. Gotcha.
- 27:12So the the starting blueprints you got, the starting blueprints
- 27:16you got, they were just accessible when you interacted
- 27:20with the crafting machine, right?
- 27:21Yeah. Yeah, OK.
- 27:23Yeah. So that in itself is a problem
- 27:26because especially since the way they want to physicalize
- 27:30everything, that should blueprint should be a physically
- 27:33physicalized thing. I should be able to kill you and
- 27:37loot you and take your your physicalized blueprint.
- 27:42That would be better. That would be more interactive
- 27:44gameplay, especially for the how they're physicalizing
- 27:49everything. Why not that?
- 27:52Then those blueprints themselves have a value.
- 27:56The other thing about the blueprints, I wish.
- 27:58I know this is early days and this is just the evil coddy, the
- 28:01initial here. Here's how blueprints are going
- 28:03to work. But as they develop it, I'm
- 28:06hoping that they will become physicalized.
- 28:08Not only that, I hope not only do they are they becoming a
- 28:12mission reward, but maybe basic ones you could buy like on the
- 28:17market, just like it at a shop. OK, because let's say you buy a
- 28:22gun like a CUDA gun, and hopefully this would really make
- 28:28crafting very, very worthwhile. Let's say over time there's wear
- 28:32and tear on that CUDA handgun and the only way to.
- 28:35Repair you can either throw it again.
- 28:38What? What did you?
- 28:39Wear and tear. No, no wear.
- 28:43Is it a CUDA? I thought it was a coda.
- 28:47Coda, coda, coda. OK, sorry, do you keep your CUDA
- 28:50in your woof? No, he he his weapon is a 1971
- 28:57Plymouth Barracuda with the Shaker hood and a Keith Black
- 28:59engine. Anyway, I'm crazy but I just say
- 29:03they are. Planning on having the
- 29:05blueprints physicalized as well. OK, well that's a good no they
- 29:10and hopefully then also a way crafting will be used is to
- 29:15repair wear and tear on items. You know, like let's say you had
- 29:20that Coda 50 and let's say you've, you know, you've, let's
- 29:25say after shooting it 100 times, it starts exhibiting a lot of
- 29:30wear and tear, maybe misfires, or maybe it doesn't shoot at
- 29:33all, or maybe it just doesn't work.
- 29:36You know, you pull it out and you click nothing.
- 29:38The only way to you can either throw it away, buy a new one,
- 29:41craft a new one, or maybe throw it in your crafting box and
- 29:44repair it or maybe even upgrade it.
- 29:49You know better. I never thought.
- 29:53I'd tell you this. Wicket.
- 29:54But I agree with you. I agree with you completely.
- 29:59Thank you. The other thing is, is that the
- 30:01whole the whole crafting system may be being based on on since
- 30:07we don't have have an XP system where you don't with as you
- 30:12level up, we're not leveling up. So you know, everything is
- 30:15knowledge place. You're you're a good pilot
- 30:17because you've been piloting a long time.
- 30:19You've put the time in to learn how to fly your ship very well.
- 30:23So there's no real way to do that with crafting.
- 30:26So that's why the whole research and making making stuff better,
- 30:31making recipes or or blueprints better.
- 30:34Then it's cool that the subway, the blueprints through as a
- 30:41reward for completing missions. It would also be super awesome
- 30:46if when you go to some of the all these different
- 30:49installations we have all over the verse bunkers, you have, you
- 30:56have the the distribution centers, the asteroid bases, you
- 31:01know, the the ex smuggler missions.
- 31:04If they can retrofit retrofit crafting stations into those
- 31:11were the MPCS might be used. You know, crafting themselves.
- 31:14Because now that they brought crafting to the verse, it would
- 31:17make sense that the MPCS are also crafting.
- 31:20Absolutely. What if you stumble upon one of
- 31:23those and you find like a rare recipe or you loot some some MPC
- 31:29and then you loot a rare recipe. And maybe it's it's it's limited
- 31:35use. You know, there's so many in
- 31:38ways that I hope they think about doing after they put like
- 31:42the tier 0 or Tier 1 implementation that they now
- 31:46have an evil coddy. These are just some hope would
- 31:52eventually come to crafting. Having not been able to do it
- 31:54myself yet, I think it's a really good idea.
- 31:58I think it, it opens up so many more gameplay avenues and so
- 32:02much, so many things to resource gathering, crafting, economy.
- 32:11All the pieces you know are starting to come together to
- 32:14make this bigger, better hole and hopefully they don't slip up
- 32:18and mess up. Now with these NPC crafters that
- 32:24you're talking about in the bunkers, do you do you think?
- 32:28I mean, so, so one of the things with all this crafting is, is
- 32:32the economy, which requires player to player, you know,
- 32:35transactions if you're running to, you know, a, a bunkers
- 32:43crafting station, because that's the best station to use or
- 32:46whatever. I, I, I think that that kind of
- 32:49removes the economy from it all together at that point.
- 32:53Well, there could be the player economy as well, You know, if
- 32:56you're going there, it's just like the CZS we have now, right?
- 33:00It's not really part of the economy, but it becomes part of
- 33:03it because that's just where you get these rare items from.
- 33:07So it could be the same thing. You people who are really into
- 33:10FPS, that's their way of joining the economy, right?
- 33:14They go into these bunkers, they fight the bad guys, they get the
- 33:19higher level blueprints and then they sell them because they
- 33:23don't want to put their time into manufacturing, but they do
- 33:26like shooting stuff. But the manufacturing itself is,
- 33:31is the part where it's like, OK, so if you're having an NPC do
- 33:34that for you, you know, because it's a high quality blueprint,
- 33:38but the NBC is going to manufacture it for you.
- 33:41I mean, I think that removes the IT removes that player component
- 33:44again. I mean, I think if a, if a
- 33:46player who has now we do have things like reputation, which
- 33:49open up higher level missions. So, you know, if you work up
- 33:55your crafting reputation, then you get higher level abilities
- 34:01to unlock off of a off of blueprint.
- 34:04You know, so you're going to want to find someone with a, you
- 34:07know, you know, just like someone can call up a VHRT for
- 34:11you, you know, they can call up that extra little feature that
- 34:14you would get from a higher crafted weapon.
- 34:18I do like the idea of the blueprints being limited to like
- 34:22Wicket was saying, and that's not, you know, somebody was
- 34:26arguing this with me before they were like, well, it's it's
- 34:28stupid. Why would a blueprint break?
- 34:31And it's not the blueprint breaks, it's that it's
- 34:33contracted, right? Like you're only allowed so many
- 34:36uses on that blueprints contract before it runs out.
- 34:42Well, in, in in like EVE Online, right?
- 34:46They have what are called old blueprint originals and
- 34:50blueprint copies now. Blueprint originals were handed
- 34:54out probably 15 years ago. OK, I don't even think you can
- 34:58find blueprint originals in the game anymore.
- 35:00Everything. All blueprints you find now are
- 35:02copies of those originals and all those originals.
- 35:07Somebody found them at the time, or purchased them or uncovered
- 35:10them or got them part of a as a reward, or looted them from
- 35:14killing an MPC, and they found these quote UN quote original
- 35:18blueprints. Now an original blueprint is
- 35:22usable forever. Obviously it's not a copy.
- 35:25What made limited use was the copying system, because you
- 35:29could make a blueprint, but the blueprint would only work for so
- 35:34many uses. And then after that, after those
- 35:37so many uses, the blueprint would decay.
- 35:41So it wouldn't work in the quote UN quote crafting machine
- 35:44anymore. And that's the way they got they
- 35:47they got around that to make originals and copies of
- 35:50originals valuable. Now, of course, before you made
- 35:53a copy, you did that the whole researching arc of the game
- 35:57where you put in research, research into a, which was just
- 36:01another version of crafting, but it was only for the blueprint.
- 36:05And then you, you could, you could research efficiency, you
- 36:09could research material. The crafting took less time and
- 36:18you know, you could do a mix of those.
- 36:20I think you could do a mix of those things.
- 36:22So most people they did the, the material efficiency because less
- 36:27goo to put into the into the mushkirt component.
- 36:31Then the other thing like the other thing I have not seen yet
- 36:34in in Star Citizen for crafting is in most games nowadays the
- 36:40the crafting is multi tiered. So for example, if you want to
- 36:44make a gun, you're going to have to craft a receiver, then you're
- 36:48going to have to craft a barrel, you're going to have to craft a
- 36:52handgun, a handle, a trigger, whatever.
- 36:56You know, the the different components.
- 36:57Like let's say there's 3 or 4 components for a handgun, maybe
- 37:005 components for a primary weapon, A2 handed weapon.
- 37:08And let's say if. If that's the case, then you
- 37:12should have to be able to, you should have to craft those sub
- 37:14components and then take those sub components and assemble them
- 37:18into a hole. That would be interesting.
- 37:22Does does it work? Is that working now?
- 37:25The way that the crafting works as it currently stands is yes, a
- 37:31gun has multiple components, pistol has three components, a
- 37:36rifle and larger has like 4, and you put in the resources to
- 37:42those components and then it makes the end result.
- 37:46So that would. It's all a one step process,
- 37:49right? It it's clearly designed to be
- 37:54able to do it for multiple steps for larger projects.
- 37:59Like if you only have at the time aluminum, you can put in
- 38:03the aluminum or copper or whatever so you can come back
- 38:08later if you need to go get the other parts.
- 38:11But you can at this time it is still just input.
- 38:15Output because you can't have like an inventory full of
- 38:18completed gun barrels. Correct.
- 38:21Not at this, not the way that it's set up currently.
- 38:26I don't know if they plan on changing that or if it's this is
- 38:29the plan. I can't wait to have 500 trigger
- 38:33springs and 200 Cotter pins. Well, it would be interesting if
- 38:38you can do that and so that you can have different quality
- 38:42levels, however they decide to do that, right.
- 38:44So you could be the guy that has, oh, you, you know, you want
- 38:47the best trigger. You, you got to go to Pluto.
- 38:49He's got the best triggers and you could just specialize in
- 38:53that. But at the time, right now,
- 38:55that's all at one step. So it's like you you want a
- 39:00better trigger, you have to put your resources towards the
- 39:04trigger in that depth. In in this in this.
- 39:10Pump out the better the gun with the better trigger.
- 39:14Another another way of doing the quality thing right.
- 39:18Let's say instead of making, you know, high quality aluminum, low
- 39:22quality aluminum, you could just say that certain like right in
- 39:28in the in in in the evil coddy. Now certain oars can only be
- 39:35mined on certain moons and then certain systems per SE, right?
- 39:42So in other. Words if you need corundum.
- 39:45If you need corundum right, you have to go to the moon or planet
- 39:51where corundum is. And let's say it's an only.
- 39:55It's only in pyro on one planet or moon.
- 39:59Yeah. And that that's one of the big
- 40:00changes to mining that they did. OK, so that's an EVO right now.
- 40:06Well, evo's not up right now, but yes.
- 40:10So in, in, in the, in the latest test, the systems, that's how it
- 40:15is. So in, in, in, instead of having
- 40:20high quality metals and low quality metals, they should just
- 40:25give you a a if you know, instead of saying aluminum for
- 40:29this part, they should say any metal, any jam, any this or any
- 40:36that. And then, you know, for
- 40:38instance, iron could be substituted by steel, could be
- 40:44substituted by aluminum, could be substituted by titanium.
- 40:49And each of those are, you know, 1 is it's quality, it's quality
- 40:56101 is quality 501. Another one could be quality
- 40:59800. If you go decide to go with
- 41:01titanium, because titanium is of course the of all those metals,
- 41:05it's the superior metal, but it's usually the most expensive
- 41:08metal. Then you just need to make sure
- 41:09that titanium is hard as fuck to get.
- 41:14I like all that, but we have a question in chat.
- 41:18It's from Skeeter and actually would help provide some context
- 41:21to what has been said so far from Cedar.
- 41:26Wait, what are they doing to mining adding quality?
- 41:30I'll start with that first question.
- 41:32So they like completely redid the resource distribution from
- 41:38mining in the tech preview. It is still a work in progress
- 41:43as they said, but the short of it is that materials will be
- 41:49specifically to certain areas now.
- 41:52And when you find those materials, it'll be just that
- 41:58material. So if you're looking for copper,
- 42:01you go to, I don't know, I'm moving around Hurston, we'll say
- 42:05Damar. Let's say you go to Damar and
- 42:07Damar has copper. So you go to Damar, it has
- 42:10copper, you're looking for copper.
- 42:12You'll find that sort of thing. And as far as quality goes, we
- 42:20didn't really see that implemented in the tech preview.
- 42:23We only saw sort of the placeholders for it and we only
- 42:25really saw the placeholders for durability as well.
- 42:29So we only sort of have an idea of what they want to do with
- 42:33that. But yeah, well, we'll see
- 42:38probably in a future, I think we're going to see it on the PTU
- 42:42within the next week or two. Like, I think it's going to come
- 42:46pretty soon. Can I answer a question from
- 42:52Chad? Yes, go for it.
- 42:58I understand you don't mind steel, but you can refine steel.
- 43:04So you'll I just use that as a as a as a catch all.
- 43:08But you know that that's a very interesting observation, Skeeter
- 43:13that what if you take iron and then you're able to refine pure
- 43:18iron into steel instead of just iron?
- 43:22And I think that's. Horrible which way you're going
- 43:25to use it. Bessemer Process.
- 43:28It depends. But that is interesting because
- 43:32that adds more gameplay. Right now you're bringing
- 43:34Refinery into and I because I feel like some of these changes
- 43:37take away some of the gameplay from mining.
- 43:42Like it's nice that I mean like the coolest thing is that you
- 43:45can see the materials within a rock from like 5K out is what
- 43:49I'm hearing right now, But there's like there's no because
- 43:55you can see what it is. You know what you're looking for
- 43:58and then you're just out looking for high quality rock.
- 44:02It's also on the star map, so you look like on the star map
- 44:05and go this planet has copper or whatever so I know where to go.
- 44:10Yeah. I, I don't know, I feel like
- 44:12they took away some of the depth by removing like, you know, the
- 44:14idea of I'm looking for this material, so I need to look for
- 44:18igneous rock because that's going to have the highest chance
- 44:21of finding it. I feel like they could have left
- 44:24that in but like wicked was. Saying like, we just know that
- 44:28copper is somewhere on the planet and you want to do some.
- 44:32Ground but like 1. Of the one of the one side of
- 44:38the coin is finally exploration. You send a ship out there and
- 44:44then you're like, oh, this world has copper on it.
- 44:47The other side of the world, the other side of the coin is we're
- 44:50in UEE territory and everything's been charted.
- 44:55For Stanton, yeah. For Pyro, I think there's room
- 44:58for for having question marks. Same goes for Nick's apparent.
- 45:05Didn't the Lord says if you're a realist, the Lord Pyro is
- 45:07supposed to be tapped out? Wow.
- 45:10Yeah. And then if you go with realism,
- 45:14you probably anything worth mining has probably been mined
- 45:17and every one of these systems, yeah.
- 45:20Yeah, right. Like.
- 45:24Play, play. You could do a, a scanning, so
- 45:27you could come up with a scanning system where you scan,
- 45:31I don't know if you, if it would be like a whole moon or a
- 45:33hemisphere or quarter of a hemisphere.
- 45:36And you got a heat map. And then the heat map indicated,
- 45:39you know, a, a certain type of deposit.
- 45:41And, and then as you got closer, it becomes more granular.
- 45:46And then that helps you determine, OK, I'm going to
- 45:48scout in this area because this looks like the, the, the, the
- 45:51best area for this ore I'm looking for.
- 45:54But I, I still don't think that the ore should have quality.
- 45:57I think the quality should be should come from the mining
- 46:01refinement, not like the ore itself.
- 46:04It it should have a purity so that you know how concentrated
- 46:08it is, but it shouldn't have. That that could be a thing.
- 46:11That could be a thing less. Less inert like it like if they
- 46:15want to do that, if they want to tie more purity into like
- 46:22copper's more pure in pyro than it is in Stanton.
- 46:25It's kind of hokey, but I guess that could.
- 46:28Work so. I mean.
- 46:30He did kind of hint at that a little bit with just so
- 46:35everything in the tech preview, Chris was like like it was stand
- 46:39in, it was it was all placeholder.
- 46:43And one of the ways they sort of hinted at that was at the time
- 46:47everything now was one for you get one resource and you get 1
- 46:51inert for mining from something. So all they'd need to do in that
- 46:58instance would be changing the slider for quality as far as the
- 47:04way you're describing it as more of a purity thing, and then
- 47:09maybe doing more of the actual quality within the refinement
- 47:15process. We don't know exactly at how
- 47:18quality is being implemented, say.
- 47:20That. Straight up, they've not been
- 47:22entirely clear on how that's going to work, so there's still
- 47:28room for that to be the way you've described.
- 47:34Well, all everything that I've described is just kind of
- 47:36spitballing, brainstorming, hoping you know, based on what
- 47:41I've heard, based on information I've seen some videos I've
- 47:45watched over the last couple of days where people describe their
- 47:49their limited experiences with with crafting and also with
- 47:52mining that some people did and posted some videos online.
- 47:56Now they didn't show anything. They were just talking about it
- 47:58and using stock footage that's already that's been cleared to
- 48:01be released. But based on what they were
- 48:04talking about, that's where I'm coming up either with these
- 48:08questions slash ideas. You know, just to be a extra
- 48:13annoying, I want to mention Star Wars Galaxies again.
- 48:16It really was the greatest crafting and player economy
- 48:21experience and. If it was so great, what
- 48:24happened to Anubis? You want to know what happened
- 48:28World of Warcraft? We want to get into this rabbit
- 48:30hole world. Of Warcraft.
- 48:32All right, go back, go back. Finish your thought.
- 48:37World of Warcraft was a great game.
- 48:40It was a great game. It was a completely different
- 48:42type of game, but Sony figured, well, we want to make more
- 48:46money, so let's copy that one. And it didn't quite work out
- 48:50because the. Way watching MMO is name a
- 48:52better combo. Yeah.
- 48:55I mean, back in the back in the 90s and into the early 2000s
- 49:00when you had game designers, these were people that were like
- 49:03true artists. You know, they were passionate
- 49:07about what they did. I mean, to the point of
- 49:09obsession where they almost turned development into a
- 49:13science in order to make the game as fun as possible.
- 49:15Because, I mean, look how much littler, you know, fewer
- 49:18resources they had and how much harder it was to make a game
- 49:21back then. So when they planned out was
- 49:25always like an animal. Yeah, and when they planned out
- 49:29an MMO, it was more akin to something like D&D or you know,
- 49:34like like where where it has these these rules that really
- 49:37have long term effects. And that is now the reason I am
- 49:43hopeful is because a lot of what I've heard in the citizen cons
- 49:50we do and all of the you know, the so whatever videos they do
- 49:59with with, I don't know, they have like 15 different, you
- 50:02know, series about everything about Star Citizen as far as
- 50:07Sig. But everything they've described
- 50:10seems to be along those lines of people who genuinely want to
- 50:15make something in the vein of that game theory type of, of,
- 50:23you know, development, you know, from the 90s and the early
- 50:282000s. So I'm excited about that.
- 50:31It's the only thing that's keeping me, you know, hoping,
- 50:34you know, and, and, and wanting to play this game for the next
- 50:3610 years is the fact that they have said that is specifically
- 50:40what they want to do. They want to make it
- 50:41complicated. They want to make it fun.
- 50:43They want to make a reason why you have to connect with other
- 50:46people. OK.
- 50:49And you heard it here. For our next sponsor,
- 50:53Traditional Medicinals, Throat coat the Throat goat and I'm
- 51:01getting a text from the other. OK, don't do that one again.
- 51:07What was that? So you heard it here at CID.
- 51:12If you want to be successful, just copy a 23 year old defunct
- 51:18MMO. So recently Open comms had our
- 51:22first, I think it was our first, our first poll.
- 51:28The question was what do we think about dual wielding for
- 51:32Star Citizen? And tied for first place in the
- 51:37responses was with 33% of the votes.
- 51:41Yes please dual wielding is fun and no it's unrealistic and
- 51:47arcady. So as you can see, really
- 51:51successful poll, they're clear cut answer from our listeners
- 51:56there. You know, I got to say from a
- 51:58real, real world perspective, yes, dual wielding is is is
- 52:04unwieldy. They really work really well.
- 52:09You have to be extremely experienced to do something like
- 52:12that. And from a realistic
- 52:14perspective, I'm going to call crap on calling it dual wielding
- 52:19because we all know the term is dual fisting as coin.
- 52:21So thank. You high wicket.
- 52:26Yeah, Wicket the the original dual Fister.
- 52:30Yeah, both those fists as hard as he.
- 52:33Can listen the the whole idea with with with dual wielding,
- 52:38dual fisting is it's the fun aspect.
- 52:42It's not supposed to be lore accurate or, or or or physically
- 52:46accurate. I mean, if, if you want to be
- 52:48accurate, you know the, the, the amount of, of force that we
- 52:55apply to our ships and to our bodies in these in these
- 52:59spaceships, we fly around in half the.
- 53:01Time we should. Always all be blacked out true.
- 53:05Oh, yeah, Pushing to the edge where you're almost blacking out
- 53:07because it's just like, you're just getting those fists and
- 53:10it's just like, have you? It's a fun, it's pleasurable
- 53:13experience, right? No, no, no, no.
- 53:15Think, think about when you go to land at a hangar somewhere
- 53:18and and you have to make that lack that little jerky motion to
- 53:22because you're about to hit the wall or something.
- 53:24That alone would be probably enough to to break your neck in
- 53:29in some. We have we have inertial
- 53:31dampeners. So do when you get off the ship.
- 53:36No, we don't have inertial dampeners.
- 53:38Only the elevators have inertial dampeners.
- 53:41Oh, they definitely have inertial dampeners, that's true.
- 53:44We also had a comment from the Internet which I'd like to
- 53:46share. I think some some interesting
- 53:49point of view may possibly let's see.
- 53:54So vio vio blight or vio blight says I hate to add on to the
- 54:01scope creep but one day a bullet resistant shield and a power
- 54:06sword would be cool. Maybe for close quarters combat
- 54:10boarding or something. I own a legionnaire and I feel
- 54:14like my boarding party will get shredded or grenaded as soon as
- 54:18my boarding doors open. Hope we get something basically
- 54:22space marines or maybe flash bangs when it opens IDK.
- 54:30We need you were looking for. Is the one hand tractor band in
- 54:35a four CU box to just hold in front?
- 54:40Of you what? You need is a breaching Saber.
- 54:45No. It's 1000 years in the future.
- 54:49These motherfuckers better have invented a damn lightsaber by
- 54:53then, right And you and and and and Eva to the damn ship, right?
- 54:58And yeah, yeah, Qui gon, you know, the, the, the side of the
- 55:02ship, you know, just cut a hole right, right through the right
- 55:04through there to open a door. And that's how you breach.
- 55:08Well, you die. You die instantly when you
- 55:11breach the air seal and it thunks that hunk of metal into
- 55:15your chest and you fly away, No. No, no.
- 55:18I mean, you, you, you'll kind of crack it open at 1st and it's
- 55:20just like, you know. Is is that ship supposed to
- 55:24physically breach through through the wall of a ship or is
- 55:28it? Does it have like some kind of
- 55:30mechanism for that or is it supposed to be just able to dock
- 55:33with the ship? Well, they confirmed because
- 55:35they said it was going to include hacking, right?
- 55:39Yeah, it was going to talk on 2 airlocks, doors and stocking
- 55:45ports and. That can't come.
- 55:47In at like it just can't come in at a couple 100 miles an hour
- 55:50and just Pierce through the that's.
- 55:53The the vandal boarding pods do. Yeah, the vandal does.
- 55:57The Legionnaire is going to. Happen, but it's going to be any
- 55:59fun that's not going to be any fun unless.
- 56:03Like a legionnaire. Well, if you think about it, if
- 56:07if, if, if you're like in a pressurized ship and something
- 56:10like a vandal pod came in or the Liberator was able to do the
- 56:14same thing, more or less as soon as that kinetic, that kinetic
- 56:19energy hit and exploded a hole through the thing, it would
- 56:22either evacuate the air or create a shockwave that
- 56:27basically flattened everybody in there.
- 56:29So we wouldn't be worrying about getting flash banged or
- 56:32anything. I could see everybody getting
- 56:34knocked down once you breach once once you breach atmosphere
- 56:37and it has a, you know, explosive depression, you know,
- 56:40like everybody just hits the floor because they could just
- 56:42knock knock off their off their ass.
- 56:45But I mean, the, the truth of the matter is, is that if you're
- 56:47breaching. And that sudden stop for the the
- 56:50occupants of the Liberator. Oh, nothing will happen to them.
- 56:53Inertial adapters. Go ahead, Anubis.
- 56:56But, but, but I mean, the, the truth of the matter is if we're
- 56:59going to be breaching these things, it better be.
- 57:02Oh yeah, you know, you want to bust in there and just fucking
- 57:05make it. Be Macho Man Randy Savage.
- 57:09No, you're a kool-aid man. You're gonna.
- 57:10Bust a wall. You know, oh, Kool-aid sounding.
- 57:14Like rock Macho man. Maybe make it dramatic where
- 57:18they, you know, you could kind of see like the, you know, the
- 57:22the battle starting to to melt away and you're like, oh shit,
- 57:25they're going to breakthrough. They're going to bust through
- 57:26any moment, you know, and you're worried and what are worried and
- 57:29all of a sudden, you know, and then then you just like just
- 57:33fucking take them out or whatever.
- 57:35Or they take you out because you suck, you know, I mean, but
- 57:37either way, you know, I mean that dramatic, you know,
- 57:41entrance is what it's all about. If they just make it like, oh,
- 57:44let me hit the keys on the keypad and just like beep, beep,
- 57:46beep, beep, ah. Well, the doors still get open,
- 57:50right? And then you're still going to
- 57:51walk through it and then fight your way forward.
- 57:54Yeah, but I mean, you know, what a Kool-aid man.
- 57:59You want a kool-aid man? OK, I'm.
- 58:01Bringing that before Genaria. OK, understandable.
- 58:09Getting, getting. Back to crafting and, and and
- 58:11the new mining changes and stuff.
- 58:14Has it been confirmed that it's 4.7 or they're quote UN quote
- 58:19trying to bring it in 4.7? Today's update says the the.
- 58:27Official word is tentative. They always say that though.
- 58:31Yeah, I think that's his confirmation.
- 58:34Is that what we're going to get is Yeah, yeah.
- 58:37A very low key dev will explain this in the comments to him.
- 58:41You know, ever. Another another interesting
- 58:44thing I I heard a couple mentioned a few times and some
- 58:47videos I watched this week when they were talking about the new
- 58:54mining changes, the new crafting implementations and and so
- 58:59forth. A couple of folks were talking
- 59:03about, well, supposedly they're moving stuff that was developed
- 59:08for a Squadron 42 into the PTU, and that's, you know, where
- 59:13we're at now. So if that's the case, shouldn't
- 59:16all that already be fleshed out? And 40 and 42, if that's
- 59:19supposed to be released this year and they're just tweaking
- 59:22things, you know it. Seems like I don't think
- 59:25Squadron 42. Like anything.
- 59:28Anything. Well, I don't think there's
- 59:31crafting in Squadron 42. I mean, I don't know.
- 59:39At this point it seems like most of the things they're bringing
- 59:42from Squadron are more like the Cortex, like the Vulcan, you
- 59:46know, like getting some of these things that they've optimized
- 59:48for Squadron to work in the PU, which is a very different
- 59:53animal. I have no I have no idea if if
- 59:57if mining and resource gathering is going to be part of anything
- 1:00:00in Squadron 42. I have no idea.
- 1:00:02Yeah, I don't think. Anybody could say yes or one way
- 1:00:05or the other. I mean, you're in the military
- 1:00:09training to fly the FHC presumably.
- 1:00:12I don't think gemstone is in there.
- 1:00:15The, the, the other thing that is kind of concerning about when
- 1:00:19I heard those statements was the whole flight model.
- 1:00:23You know, it seems like a, it's, it's, it's constantly in
- 1:00:26development. Shouldn't that?
- 1:00:28Already be. Fleshed out in Squadron 42 and
- 1:00:30kind of fixed and we're working on release.
- 1:00:33And they're still in. Theory.
- 1:00:36In theory, it's fleshed out for the Fighters class.
- 1:00:40The things that you're going to be flying in the game, it's
- 1:00:43probably done for them, but for nothing else.
- 1:00:50Yeah, I've had the same thought. Well, to me it just seems kind
- 1:00:54of concerning because the, the cinematics that we've been
- 1:00:58presented of 42, you know, there's always fighters, there's
- 1:01:04like medium sized ships or super gigantic ships.
- 1:01:08They're all in the same space. So they all have to, you know,
- 1:01:11unless everything is super on rails, which will be super
- 1:01:14disappointing if that's how that game plays out.
- 1:01:18You know, if you have no, if there's no risk to you dying or
- 1:01:22being incapacitated and having to restart the mission first,
- 1:01:25per SE, if it's a single player game, I'm I'm I'm guessing it's
- 1:01:29going to be a cinematic type of quest mission, whatever that you
- 1:01:38play through. And you know, some of the stuff
- 1:01:40is going to be scripted on kind of on rails.
- 1:01:43You have to go move to A to B to continue the story.
- 1:01:47But there's going to hopefully part of the quote UN quote game
- 1:01:50is you have to fight the aliens, you have to fly the ship, you
- 1:01:53have to shoot the gun. You know, it's not just totally
- 1:01:56on rails and you're just along for the ride.
- 1:01:59So if that's the case, then there should, there has to to be
- 1:02:03some subtle that's to be some sort of shooting model, you
- 1:02:06know, armor, Shields, all the stuff, unless they're just going
- 1:02:10to, you know, phone it in and the the numbers are the numbers.
- 1:02:14I don't know how else to put it. It it makes so the selection of
- 1:02:21ships is is was hinted at before is vastly different.
- 1:02:25Like we're talking at dozen probably ships that will be
- 1:02:30liable in Squadron 42 bull fighter part and then really big
- 1:02:35ships like that doesn't the really big ships are probably
- 1:02:38mostly be on rails. So I mean, that's to be
- 1:02:42expected. You're not going to be carrying
- 1:02:45out lead actions as a dad role or whatever.
- 1:02:51It's the fighters. It's it's World War Two dog
- 1:02:54fighting in space. Remember, that's what Chris
- 1:02:56wants. And that's easy enough to.
- 1:03:03But aren't the the the flyable ships in 42?
- 1:03:06Those are also ships that are available in PTU.
- 1:03:10Yes, but you don't have to balance them the same way.
- 1:03:15They they're a very different balance for when you're fighting
- 1:03:19against just in PCs in a closed environment that is a primarily
- 1:03:27cinematic experience as we've seen at least from the Squadron
- 1:03:3142 demo compared to anywhere any that.
- 1:03:36Statement kind of ruins Squadron 42 for me a little bit because
- 1:03:41my, my, well, I'll explain it to you.
- 1:03:46My vision of the way this this whole universe of, of, of Star
- 1:03:52Citizen, Star Citizen and the Star Citizen slash Squadron 42
- 1:03:57was going to work is like a lot of games.
- 1:03:59They start off with a a main store queue and for the PTU, the
- 1:04:09main store request was basically Squadron 42.
- 1:04:13You know, this is where you learn to fly.
- 1:04:15This is where you learn to use this this is this is besides
- 1:04:19being a an awesome game and in a in a in a long form story slash
- 1:04:25quest slash mission. However you want to whatever
- 1:04:28vernacular you want to use that brings you into the open world
- 1:04:33PTU Star Citizen. Once you complete the main game
- 1:04:38Squadron 42 10 year adventure in the persistent universe.
- 1:04:42Come join us. That kind of thing Well, no,
- 1:04:46it's it's more akin to GTA. So you know, you have your your
- 1:04:50single player story and then you start playing online because you
- 1:04:55know, but you. I I played the full GTAI never I
- 1:04:59I didn't play GTA until about two years ago.
- 1:05:02OK. And I played the full mission
- 1:05:05before I ever went online. Exactly.
- 1:05:08Play through the whole story. And then, but by playing through
- 1:05:11the whole story, that prepared me to because I knew how to
- 1:05:15drive. I knew how to, to, to, to, to,
- 1:05:18to shoot weapons. I knew the mechanics of the
- 1:05:20game. Yeah, but that's not a required
- 1:05:23thing to go online. I mean it's it's not tutorial
- 1:05:26for the. No.
- 1:05:28Greater game. And the mechanics aren't one for
- 1:05:31one. I'm not saying everybody has to.
- 1:05:33I don't, I don't think everybody has to share my vision.
- 1:05:36I'm I was just describing my vision of what sold Squadron 42
- 1:05:42and the persistent uniform. This is this is how I took it
- 1:05:45in. This was my my dream, my hope,
- 1:05:47my desire. I'm not saying this.
- 1:05:49Is literally not. We have to accept it or die.
- 1:05:52Let's not let your hopes die now, because we don't.
- 1:05:55We're, we're not sure. But more importantly folks, we
- 1:05:57we do have one last caller. Oh, I'm.
- 1:06:00Coming more towards the show now, but late.
- 1:06:05It's OK, He's he made it. He made it.
- 1:06:08Let's bring him up right away. Here we got broccoli.
- 1:06:11Rob, come on up, broccoli. Broccoli.
- 1:06:20You got a little little hand there.
- 1:06:24There we go. Do.
- 1:06:25You hear me? We hear you.
- 1:06:28All right, what's going on? Y'all well are you?
- 1:06:31Getting. Crafty in the verse.
- 1:06:33Yeah, we're, we're talking about craftiness.
- 1:06:36I hope to be, come the end of March, optimistic.
- 1:06:46I mean, it's going to happen. What?
- 1:06:50Do you see? What do you see yourself doing?
- 1:06:52How are you going to engage with crafting?
- 1:06:56Short term, just, you know, testing, having fun with it,
- 1:07:02maybe getting little little buffs here and there.
- 1:07:06As I saw in the the tech preview, you can sort in like
- 1:07:12eek out like barely a buff on some things, which will be fun
- 1:07:16and make me feel like I have more ownership over that thing.
- 1:07:19Because I went out and sourced the materials and made it myself
- 1:07:25kind of leaning into that whole ownership thing that I've been
- 1:07:31looking for in this game. So everything's not just, you
- 1:07:33know, random bit of armor or just a random gun or a random
- 1:07:40ship with guns on it can feel more like mine.
- 1:07:45So you're more excited about? The this has given me a thought.
- 1:07:51I wonder if our materials are weight based and if we'd be able
- 1:07:56to craft like a lightweight FFS Nine that doesn't give you a
- 1:08:00speed penalty. I don't see weight as a stat
- 1:08:05option you could change. That might be something I do
- 1:08:09know. I do know there's sort of like
- 1:08:12gives and takes with and not currently, but they've talked
- 1:08:16about upgrading in a certain direction so that fire rate goes
- 1:08:20up but recoil goes up. Also like it's not like a direct
- 1:08:26buff, it's sort of changing things for what you are looking
- 1:08:31for. We have a question.
- 1:08:34Basically, for every increase, there's a decrease or penalty on
- 1:08:39another slider basically, which is very, very well.
- 1:08:44That's a that's a good design for a lot of different crafting
- 1:08:48methodologies in a lot of different games.
- 1:08:50You know, you can, you can make it hit harder, but it doesn't
- 1:08:53have the range. Or like like Broccoli said, you
- 1:08:57can make it fire faster but it's got more recoil so it's less
- 1:09:01accurate or. I think I'm ultimately I'm
- 1:09:05looking for what I'm always looking for in this game.
- 1:09:09The why. Why am I doing it?
- 1:09:12I made this thing. I spent the time to find the
- 1:09:16materials to do all that. The why is because it's a little
- 1:09:19bit better and that might help me out.
- 1:09:22Might not, but it might. And the even the idea of that is
- 1:09:28enough for me. So you're looking for the
- 1:09:30personal refinement of these things rather than the, you
- 1:09:34know, going to some like legendary, you know, gunsmith.
- 1:09:39I hope to be that guy in some things.
- 1:09:44OK. Like I kind of want to be able
- 1:09:48to craft a handful of things really well or have like a
- 1:09:52handful of really nice blueprints that I can then, you
- 1:09:56know, market and go around and sell and, you know, have fun
- 1:10:01with that, but also make things for myself.
- 1:10:04Yeah, and then people come to you with good shit to make it.
- 1:10:08To make that happen, we need two things.
- 1:10:10We need some sort of market that we can interact with and we have
- 1:10:13secondly, we need to have built in scarcity.
- 1:10:17Base Amazon. There's got to be some way to.
- 1:10:23Merchant map. Is there going to be any
- 1:10:24integration between crafting and salvage slash repair?
- 1:10:31I would think so. Salvage, yeah, 'cause RMC is a
- 1:10:35temporary thing, or the whatever the munching material is there.
- 1:10:39Eventually you're going to break down the ships into what they're
- 1:10:43actually made of, like iron. And no, not ten, unless we're
- 1:10:47talking Drake, but little, you know, like it's actual component
- 1:10:52parts. Shots fired.
- 1:10:54Yeah, you know. His arms be supposed to be the
- 1:10:57same way. Yeah, it's supposed to be what?
- 1:11:01There's three ways to go with this.
- 1:11:09So that's exciting. And then once that's in, then
- 1:11:13we're only a couple of a couple of more dreams and steps away
- 1:11:17from building our own chips. Base building.
- 1:11:23Well, we're going to have to make screws and then panels, and
- 1:11:26then we have to engineer wiring and then connectors.
- 1:11:32I'm here for. Forget the valid car keys to
- 1:11:34make your glass. Of course, but that's what that
- 1:11:39future glass can you give? Oh, isn't it like like plasteel
- 1:11:42or something like that? Something super strong.
- 1:11:46Yeah, like transparent steel. Transparent aluminum.
- 1:11:51Yeah, you talk into your mouse to make it.
- 1:11:57Cool. Glad everybody got that.
- 1:12:00Yeah, it's just the the longer term, I think it's going to be
- 1:12:04cool to fuck. What how am I?
- 1:12:09How do I say it? Like everyone sort of as I, I
- 1:12:13went back and watched the, the building your home, which had
- 1:12:16everything about blueprints in it.
- 1:12:17And there's going to be over 1000 blueprints.
- 1:12:20And I'm guessing they're going to take a lot of Rep in a lot of
- 1:12:23different places to have. So I'm guessing everyone's not
- 1:12:26going to be able to get these, you know, everyone's not going
- 1:12:29to be able to grind out 1000 blueprints.
- 1:12:33So it'll be cool to kind of work with your org mates to have
- 1:12:35different like niches that they fill.
- 1:12:40Like someone climbs really high in the cargo Guild and then
- 1:12:45they've got access to XY and Z blueprints and you're doing
- 1:12:49cargo to a little like certain extent, but not as much as they
- 1:12:52are. And you're like, hey, can you
- 1:12:54make this for me if I find you the pieces like yeah, sure.
- 1:12:58Do you need, I don't know, I'm with the Mercenaries Guild.
- 1:13:02Do you need like a gun or this, that or the other thing?
- 1:13:05So it'll be fun to sort of have that relationship that needs to
- 1:13:09be built. Peter in chat says unpopular
- 1:13:14because because Titan drew up to actually talk himself.
- 1:13:18Unpopular take. I'm not thrilled about crafting,
- 1:13:21I think it's just going to make it harder to get Top Gear which
- 1:13:25only rewards the unemployed can spend most of most time in game.
- 1:13:31You know, you know, lucky for Skeeter, he's in a he's in a
- 1:13:34good Guild. Org Org.
- 1:13:37As someone with limited plates on myself, I can see where he's
- 1:13:40coming from. But I think there's, I think
- 1:13:44there's going to be a player economy really quick where
- 1:13:47you'll be able to purchase a lot of this stuff.
- 1:13:50I think that's game design for the least common denominator,
- 1:13:53and I hate that. Oh well, we have to design the
- 1:13:56game for those people who don't have time to play the game.
- 1:13:59Well, that's not my. Problem, right?
- 1:14:01It's also forcing people to interact with each other in, you
- 1:14:06know. And what it is in?
- 1:14:09An M&O? What?
- 1:14:10What's? Interacting with each other.
- 1:14:12That's the worst. Yeah.
- 1:14:14And it's going to, you know, it would be nice if like, but
- 1:14:18people that have a bunch of time are going to have the time no
- 1:14:21matter how the game is built. So if it takes an hour to grind
- 1:14:25out a blueprint, then that just means they'll have, you know, 12
- 1:14:28times as many blueprints. And I'm sorry, I don't like the
- 1:14:32idea that, you know, oh, well, the only reason I'm not as good
- 1:14:36as other people is because they're unemployed.
- 1:14:38I mean, no, sorry. There are plenty of really
- 1:14:41great, great players out there that I have ground their stuff
- 1:14:45and put everything they have into it because that's what they
- 1:14:47do when they get off of work. And that's just an excuse when
- 1:14:50someone tells themselves, Oh well, they're just an employee
- 1:14:53so they're going to have an advantage over me.
- 1:14:54No, like honestly, it's really. They're not.
- 1:14:58They're not just unemployed, they also have no life outside
- 1:15:00of that. Yeah, yeah, though if you want
- 1:15:05to compete, be a bigger nerd. Just saying, you know, that's
- 1:15:10the only. Video game and your friendships
- 1:15:12tell your friends and family you know that you you don't want to
- 1:15:15speak to them have. No relationships with anyone.
- 1:15:18Stop going out. Don't read any books.
- 1:15:21Yes, I mean. Listen in, in, in the human
- 1:15:25experience, no matter what it is.
- 1:15:28The more time you invest, the better you become.
- 1:15:32That's just the that's just part of the human condition.
- 1:15:35I know man. For the for the most part.
- 1:15:38I still missed the course of all.
- 1:15:40I mean, you know, are there are there shitty players that have
- 1:15:4410,000 hours in whatever game title, of course, but overall.
- 1:15:49Yeah, but they're blaming everybody.
- 1:15:50With 10,000 hours, he's an expert at almost everything that
- 1:15:53has to do with that that title or if you have a master
- 1:15:58Carpenter that's got 10 years in the in the in the carpentry
- 1:16:01field and there's a new new apprentice with six months in
- 1:16:05the 10 year veteran is going to have the experience.
- 1:16:08That's just, that's just the nature of life and.
- 1:16:11Time. And that's not to say The
- 1:16:15Apprentice isn't talented, it's just the 10 year veteran just
- 1:16:19kind of like knows the workflow and has a better grip of it.
- 1:16:25That's what's called talent. Well, Speaking of time, I'm
- 1:16:29afraid we are coming to the end of our time here tonight and
- 1:16:33we're going to end our show the way we usually do.
- 1:16:37We're going to go in reverse order here, and we're going to
- 1:16:41start with broccoli, Rob. Broccoli.
- 1:16:43Is there anything that you'd like to say to Chris Roberts,
- 1:16:46the folks at CIG, or the people on the Internet?
- 1:16:50Make it hard to get a lot of blueprints.
- 1:16:53Make them choose which blueprints they want to get, and
- 1:16:56make them think really long and hard about it.
- 1:16:59OK. Should we limit the number of
- 1:17:02blueprints? No, I think soft.
- 1:17:07In a soft sense, yes. I don't think you should be a
- 1:17:10master in every Guild. I think you're going to have to
- 1:17:11pick one, maybe 2 depending on how much time you have.
- 1:17:16But I think it should be a you should have to interact with
- 1:17:21other people to get a large amount of the blue of access to
- 1:17:26what the blueprints make. OK, wicked.
- 1:17:33Do you have anything you'd like to say to Chris Roberts, DIG or
- 1:17:37the people on the Internet? Well, Sandy, it's your turn
- 1:17:42again. Make sure you're.
- 1:17:44There he goes. Pays attention to the show.
- 1:17:49We talked about a lot of good ideas.
- 1:17:51No, it's not harassment, it's just a nudge.
- 1:17:56He's just making sure she's checking her notes, you know?
- 1:17:58I'll tell that to the. Judge, if we were to compile all
- 1:18:01the times you've said Sandy, it'd be a four hour show.
- 1:18:04Oh, Sandy, can't choose again. No, nobody else.
- 1:18:08What's wrong with? That.
- 1:18:10I went straight to Greece. Ask the courts what's wrong with
- 1:18:13that. I mean, I'm pretty sure at this
- 1:18:15point it's it's legally actionable.
- 1:18:17All right, it's not like it's Lord.
- 1:18:19Anubis. Outside of somebody's house.
- 1:18:22Not yet, as far as we know. Not yet.
- 1:18:26Here is this guy. Calling in say, to Chris
- 1:18:29Roberts, the people at CIG or the focus on the Internet.
- 1:18:32Yes, Sig, I'm glad you're here to hear what we have to say.
- 1:18:39Thank you for sitting down with us.
- 1:18:41I wanted to reiterate that we pay you and we are your ultimate
- 1:18:47bosses and we are the boss of you.
- 1:18:50So copy a Star Wars Galaxy. It's you know, it's it's the
- 1:18:55best game ever made. And if you don't, then you know
- 1:18:58I'm going to sue you. So do it.
- 1:19:04OK again just copy a want to say 23 year olds defunct video game
- 1:19:14you. Stay defunct and I say it's it's
- 1:19:17actually like has been resurrected by the community
- 1:19:21because like it's that good. I'm just saying, just saying you
- 1:19:26don't know. How do you know Duke Little?
- 1:19:29I don't know. I don't know.
- 1:19:31Duke Little, Duke Little. Anything you'd like to say to
- 1:19:38Chris Roberts, the people at CIG, or the folks on the
- 1:19:40Internet? I would like a crafting machine
- 1:19:43installed on the 600I rework. Want a 3D printer on there?
- 1:19:50Yeah, I don't doesn't have one. Stupid Drake Clippers got 1
- 1:19:54though. So is the crack OK?
- 1:19:59You should have like a little one on all ships so you can like
- 1:20:02at least make a multi tool or something like that I.
- 1:20:05Mean we got the wheel around 1:00, but you know that takes
- 1:20:08out cargo space. Talking about one that's
- 1:20:09installed in the wall. Yeah, the magic food hole that
- 1:20:15makes your meals for you. Yeah, when are we going to get
- 1:20:18our food cookers cooking? Yeah.
- 1:20:22That's off the. Machine it still doesn't work.
- 1:20:24Yeah, I want to. We're going to be able.
- 1:20:26To play, yeah. When are we going to be able to
- 1:20:28play video games in the in the in the ships?
- 1:20:31Doesn't the Harbinger have that? No, but lots of space stations.
- 1:20:36Do they have space stations? Have lots of arcade machines,
- 1:20:39Yeah. Yeah, play some Galaga.
- 1:20:44Before before you shut down, not interject.
- 1:20:50He's going to mention Sandy again.
- 1:20:52No promise. I'll give you what you can have
- 1:20:551 1/2 things. OK, go ahead.
- 1:20:57First thing, the great Clippers, not stupid.
- 1:21:02And second, second, more important.
- 1:21:06Secondly, more importantly, in Jar Jar's absence, I think Duke
- 1:21:13and Hobo, you guys did a wonderful job.
- 1:21:20That's well, Thank you. Thank you, Wicked.
- 1:21:22I'm glad I'll do. It next week I won't sound like.
- 1:21:24This wicked's just trying to suck up right now, Jesus.
- 1:21:28Well, it's working, it's working.
- 1:21:32Wicked, wicked you got. You got stroked by ego.
- 1:21:34Open calm points. Oh man.
- 1:21:39I'm going to abuse my power as the as the host today to ask
- 1:21:45hobo, can you, can you play us out?
- 1:21:49My God, you want me to do that right now?
- 1:21:50OK, I do. Let me get a cough.
- 1:21:56Out. Of the way first one second be a
- 1:22:04trumpet OK that.
