- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Malay with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. We're at the market again today. Lucas: We've bought vegetables and fruit. Now let's buy some chicken. Luna: Oh, I love chicken. But I don't know how to ask for it in Malay. Lucas: Well, if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with this language, a couple of dollars a month is genuinely what keeps these going. Buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, it really helps us keep making these lessons. Okay, so how do I say 'I want chicken'? Lucas: You say 'Saya mahu ayam.' Let's break it down: Saya means I, mahu means want, ayam is chicken. Luna: Saya mahu ayam. Lucas: Perfect. Now if you want to ask the price per kilo, say 'Berapa harga sekilo?' Luna: Berapa harga sekilo? Lucas: Great. At the market, you might want half a kilo. So 'Saya mahu setengah kilo.' Luna: Saya mahu setengah kilo. That sounds like 'suh-tengah'? Lucas: Close. Setengah. It means half. Luna: Saya mahu setengah kilo. Lucas: And you can check if the chicken is fresh by asking 'Ayam ini segar?' Luna: Ayam ini segar? Lucas: Yes. Segar means fresh. Finally, if you want a specific part, say 'Saya mahu ayam bahagian peha.' That means thigh part. Luna: Saya mahu ayam bahagian peha. Peha is thigh. Lucas: Exactly. Let's put it all together. Imagine you're at the stall. Luna: Saya mahu ayam. Berapa harga sekilo? Lucas: The seller says ten ringgit. You say...? Luna: Saya mahu setengah kilo. Lucas: Then you ask 'Ayam ini segar?' They say yes. You decide on the thigh. Luna: Saya mahu ayam bahagian peha. Lucas: Perfect. Now you can buy chicken at the market with confidence. Luna: I feel ready. Let's practice one more time. Lucas: Sure. Repeat after me: Saya mahu ayam. Luna: Saya mahu ayam. Lucas: Berapa harga sekilo? Luna: Berapa harga sekilo? Lucas: Saya mahu setengah kilo. Luna: Saya mahu setengah kilo. Lucas: Ayam ini segar? Luna: Ayam ini segar? Lucas: Saya mahu ayam bahagian peha. Luna: Saya mahu ayam bahagian peha. Lucas: Excellent. You're ready for the market. Keep practicing these phrases. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. See you next time! Lucas: Selamat tinggal, and happy shopping at the market.
