- 1:23Speaker 2: have to figure that at least twelve a year, and

- 1:52Speaker 2: or a four three four five fifty eight fifty eight
- 1:53Speaker 2: three four five fifty eight fifty eight. If you have

- 1:57Speaker 2: problem you're looking to get through and or not and
- 1:59Speaker 2: you need a secon An opinion for it. You need
- 2:02Speaker 2: you need an mdplant, you need some new teeth, whatever
- 2:04Speaker 2: it might be. The doctors can help you with that
- 2:06Speaker 2: this morning and give us a call. Three zer a
- 2:07Speaker 2: four three four five fifteen fifty eight. Three zero four
- 2:09Speaker 2: three four five fifty fifty eight is our number that
- 2:12Speaker 2: you can give us a call this morning. Plenty of
- 2:14Speaker 2: things that we want to talk about today, but I
- 2:16Speaker 2: think the first thing, Doctor stephen that you mentioned to
- 2:18Speaker 2: me in information that you sent me overnight is we
- 2:21Speaker 2: wanted to talk a little bit about some new insurance
- 2:24Speaker 2: that you have on board.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Is it new insurance? Is that right?
- 2:27Speaker 4: It's new insurance and it's really for for many listeners.
- 2:33Speaker 4: That is not specific to our office, But doctor Henley
- 2:36Speaker 4: is more of the expert on that. So I'm going
- 2:38Speaker 4: to throw it to him on that because he's been
- 2:40Speaker 4: very involved in trying to help out our local citizens
- 2:45Speaker 4: with with the dental insurance.
- 2:47Speaker 5: Oh why thank you for that throw. So not all
- 2:52Speaker 5: insurance has created the same. There are some that are
- 2:56Speaker 5: I'll just say better and worse. That's all I'll say.
- 2:59Speaker 5: Gotcham sure, and I do believe the insurance that it
- 3:02Speaker 5: has now been picked up by our local Kannawk County
- 3:05Speaker 5: Schools for all employees is called Bento and it is
- 3:09Speaker 5: one that is very excellent in my humble opinion, it
- 3:13Speaker 5: is actually going to increase the ability for dentists to
- 3:18Speaker 5: provide better care. Also, a lot more dentists will take it.
- 3:21Speaker 5: It just seems like overall going to be a better situation. However,
- 3:24Speaker 5: the reason I wanted to bring it up is that
- 3:27Speaker 5: I've been informed by many in the Kannak County Schools
- 3:30Speaker 5: administration that you must go to their website the Bento
- 3:34Speaker 5: dot net, I believe is the website and sign up
- 3:37Speaker 5: as a Kannawk County school employee. If you do not
- 3:40Speaker 5: sign up, you will not have that insurance. It's literally
- 3:43Speaker 5: like you must use it or lose it type of
- 3:46Speaker 5: situation for a whole year. So not to be a
- 3:48Speaker 5: payer of bad news, but I want to get out
- 3:50Speaker 5: the word that you must go sign up on the
- 3:53Speaker 5: online portal and then in there you can actually find
- 3:55Speaker 5: out which dentists are in network, or which a dentist
- 3:59Speaker 5: will take it. My my office will take is will
- 4:04Speaker 5: take it. Doctor Steve's office will take it. We're not
- 4:06Speaker 5: in network, but we will take it. And the reversant
- 4:09Speaker 5: rates are very comparable to our full fees and that's
- 4:12Speaker 5: why we're so excited about this, because the the old
- 4:15Speaker 5: one was not as comparable, and so that's that's kind
- 4:18Speaker 5: of how I'll frame it.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm looking through some I was doing some uh
- 4:22Speaker 2: looking up on what Bento is, and it looks like
- 4:24Speaker 2: it's a very we might be seeing more of these.
- 4:27Speaker 2: It looks like it's the way that the funding takes
- 4:30Speaker 2: is a little bit different. And none of that matters
- 4:31Speaker 2: to you guys. You guys just take the insurance. This
- 4:32Speaker 2: is through the Cane school employees is where this benefits at.
- 4:36Speaker 2: But it looks like there's an app very easy to
- 4:38Speaker 2: use and they're supposed to be what they market as anyway,
- 4:42Speaker 2: is that it really demystifies your your bill. You can
- 4:44Speaker 2: if you if you go in your app, you can
- 4:46Speaker 2: see what you're going to pay and there's much less questions.
- 4:49Speaker 2: I mean, that's that's pretty nice.
- 4:51Speaker 4: I mean, honestly, trying to make it a lot more
- 4:54Speaker 4: user friendly, a lot more understandable, and change that I
- 4:59Speaker 4: think kind of the enigma that insurance can be with
- 5:02Speaker 4: with many people and be a bit of a sea
- 5:05Speaker 4: change with how insurance is provided to their customers really,
- 5:11Speaker 4: and that's again to review the insurance idea with everyone listening.
- 5:17Speaker 4: With dental insurance, it is a benefit of that employee
- 5:21Speaker 4: that they that they have through their employer typically and
- 5:24Speaker 4: that it's no there's no agreement, no negotiations on their
- 5:30Speaker 4: behalf from the dental office. Really, the dental office acts
- 5:34Speaker 4: a bit as the middleman to take from the insurance
- 5:37Speaker 4: that you have through your employer or that you have
- 5:39Speaker 4: purchased and submit to that insurance what has been done.
- 5:44Speaker 4: And then that insurance either pays the office back based
- 5:47Speaker 4: upon the policies that they have agreed to with the
- 5:50Speaker 4: employer or employee, or they send the patient the reimbursement
- 5:56Speaker 4: check for what has been done. So a lot of
- 6:00Speaker 4: patients come in thinking that we are the ones that
- 6:02Speaker 4: manage that.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Insurance and we do not.
- 6:05Speaker 4: We don't really, we don't have anything, we cannot have
- 6:07Speaker 4: anything to do with that. But to reiterate what doctor
- 6:11Speaker 4: Henley said, there is a deadline for this enrollment June
- 6:16Speaker 4: the thirtieth. So, as an employee of Conall County Schools,
- 6:21Speaker 4: if you do not select to enroll by June the thirtieth,
- 6:25Speaker 4: then for an entire year, you would not be able
- 6:28Speaker 4: to use any dental benefits at all, which is a
- 6:30Speaker 4: change from how it has been done before. So we
- 6:34Speaker 4: want to get the word out to let everyone know
- 6:36Speaker 4: so they don't come into the office saying, why is
- 6:38Speaker 4: my insurance not active? And again, we don't have anything
- 6:42Speaker 4: to do with that, but sometimes that's not the perception.
- 6:46Speaker 3: Consider this like a PSA.
- 6:48Speaker 2: The Green Dental Group doesn't doesn't administer your insurance for you. However,
- 6:52Speaker 2: they do want to take it and they do want
- 6:53Speaker 2: you to be able to use those funds for it.
- 6:56Speaker 2: And so June thirtieth is your sign up for that.
- 6:59Speaker 2: And I don't know. I don't work for CACS, so
- 7:02Speaker 2: I can't say this for sure. I'm pulling all this
- 7:04Speaker 2: from the Bento website. But according to them, sign up
- 7:06Speaker 2: could be done through the app. It's very easy to
- 7:09Speaker 2: go in there and register and to claim your funds.
- 7:12Speaker 2: And then it is kind of neat because all the
- 7:13Speaker 2: things that you were talking about, apparently they handle a
- 7:17Speaker 2: lot of those things for the dentist a lot, but
- 7:18Speaker 2: you get paid via an EFT. You don't have to
- 7:20Speaker 2: wait on reimbursements for checks. All that stuff is pre negotiated.
- 7:23Speaker 2: So hopefully that helps you guys out as well. That
- 7:25Speaker 2: is such a great point Dale. So typical for typical insurances,
- 7:30Speaker 2: whenever you make a claim, US dentists get paid thirty
- 7:33Speaker 2: to sixty days later usually, which is not terrible because
- 7:37Speaker 2: that's just kind of how things have been done. However,
- 7:40Speaker 2: when something new comes along where you get paid the
- 7:43Speaker 2: next day, such as a lot of times Bento claims
- 7:47Speaker 2: that they will pay you the next day, that is
- 7:49Speaker 2: like a revelation, and so it's a lot easier for
- 7:51Speaker 2: us to instantly tell the patient what they will be,
- 7:56Speaker 2: what they will owe us, and also the next day
- 7:58Speaker 2: if there's a difference, which they're shouldn't because Binto has
- 8:01Speaker 2: been very transparent with what they'll pay. I do believe
- 8:03Speaker 2: it'll be a lot easier for us to say, oh,
- 8:05Speaker 2: well here's what they paid and here here's what you owe,
- 8:07Speaker 2: and it's going to be so quicker, so easier. It
- 8:10Speaker 2: just takes the mystification out of it. Because if if
- 8:14Speaker 2: the insurance company pays two months later and you call
- 8:16Speaker 2: your your patient. Oh yeah, now you os money. They're like,
- 8:19Speaker 2: that was two months ago. I don't remember what I
- 8:21Speaker 2: had for breakfice this morning. Why would I even remember anyway,
- 8:24Speaker 2: So it's a little they demystified the operation. It's a
- 8:27Speaker 2: lot more simpler and easier.
- 8:29Speaker 3: So that's why I've.
- 8:29Speaker 5: Been to Bendo's just so cool.
- 8:31Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 8:31Speaker 5: I just keep saying like, it's just not like typical insurance.
- 8:35Speaker 5: It's like they looked at insurance and went, let's do
- 8:37Speaker 5: something differently. Let's actually make the make the employees happy,
- 8:41Speaker 5: Let's make the dentists happy, Let's just make everyone happy.
- 8:43Speaker 3: What an idea? All right? Who knew would be great?
- 8:46Speaker 3: What an idea?
- 8:47Speaker 2: What an idea that you could use like some of
- 8:48Speaker 2: the things that we've learned in the past and things
- 8:50Speaker 2: that don't work, and say, hey, how could we re
- 8:52Speaker 2: envision these things into maybe methods that do work and
- 8:55Speaker 2: not have to change rules, laws and guidelines to do it.
- 8:59Speaker 3: I mean, hi, that's right.
- 9:01Speaker 5: And I think the best point about this insurance is
- 9:04Speaker 5: that the Kannak County Schools, the employees do not pay
- 9:08Speaker 5: a dime towards it. This is all paid for through
- 9:11Speaker 5: the Kannawk County Levy and so that with levy is
- 9:15Speaker 5: only that specific levee was made to provide only benefits
- 9:20Speaker 5: for the Kannak County schools and so it cannot be
- 9:23Speaker 5: for raising their their their pay, which obviously we want
- 9:28Speaker 5: to increase their pay, everyone does, but it's only for benefits.
- 9:31Speaker 5: So they found the best way to maximize their benefits
- 9:34Speaker 5: and they don't have to pay a dime.
- 9:35Speaker 3: That's great information.
- 9:37Speaker 2: You are listening this morning, gree Dental Group is here,
- 9:39Speaker 2: and ask the expert on five E d W c HS,
- 9:41Speaker 2: the voice of Charlesy and give us a call through
- 9:43Speaker 2: or four three four five fifty fifty if you have
- 9:44Speaker 2: any questions limited answers about the Bento situation that the
- 9:48Speaker 2: doctors take the insurance and can maybe answer some questions
- 9:50Speaker 2: for you, but don't call us with like your policy
- 9:53Speaker 2: questions or anything like that. If you have questions, seek
- 9:56Speaker 2: out your your administrator at your work for that. If
- 9:59Speaker 2: if you have any questions as far as that goes.
- 10:01Speaker 2: But I just wanted to give employees there that reminder
- 10:04Speaker 2: sounds like something that by June thirtieth you should probably
- 10:07Speaker 2: do so you can be sure to have access to
- 10:09Speaker 2: those funds if you have any questions this morning about
- 10:11Speaker 2: your dental health, your dental hygiene of yourself, or maybe
- 10:14Speaker 2: a love wing and gives a call this morning. Three
- 10:16Speaker 2: zero four three four five fifty eight fifty eight. Three
- 10:18Speaker 2: zero four three four five fifty eight fifty eight. I
- 10:21Speaker 2: know the tope were going to talk about this morning,
- 10:22Speaker 2: and we've talked about this a few times before because
- 10:26Speaker 2: the doctors at Greeb Dental Group are such are into
- 10:30Speaker 2: continuing education and of course about bringing folks along you
- 10:33Speaker 2: know about in their industry and so forth. So we
- 10:34Speaker 2: can talk a little bit this morning about young people
- 10:37Speaker 2: getting into dental care, dental hygiene, being a dentist, and
- 10:39Speaker 2: things along those lines. And it seems like with a
- 10:42Speaker 2: lot of like with a lot of things in today's society,
- 10:46Speaker 2: we have a shortage of dentists now, which is really
- 10:49Speaker 2: something else. Let's talk about that a little bit well.
- 10:52Speaker 4: And at our offices, for instance, we are wrapping up
- 10:55Speaker 4: this week having two dental students from WVU School of
- 10:59Speaker 4: Dentistry rotating through our offices. We have many dental hygiene
- 11:05Speaker 4: students that come and rotate through to shadow and to
- 11:08Speaker 4: train as well that come that go to various programs.
- 11:12Speaker 4: We also have a lot of dental assistants that are
- 11:15Speaker 4: training to become assistants that come in shadow and rotate
- 11:19Speaker 4: through as well. So we're very committed to helping the
- 11:22Speaker 4: next generation become educated, get real world experience in the
- 11:27Speaker 4: field of dentistry. And it's uh, it's a dentistry is
- 11:31Speaker 4: interesting because if you've rewind a couple hundred years, uh,
- 11:37Speaker 4: it used to be more of an apprentice type of
- 11:39Speaker 4: a profession where you would learn from someone under there
- 11:44Speaker 4: under their care and they would they train you how
- 11:46Speaker 4: to do it. It obviously became much more medically based
- 11:51Speaker 4: and and train and needed required much more training, and
- 11:55Speaker 4: I believe it it actually is described as the first
- 11:58Speaker 4: medical specialty that was kind of an offshoot of medicine
- 12:02Speaker 4: in training after seeing how complex dental care can be,
- 12:07Speaker 4: finding that it needs to be housed within its own
- 12:11Speaker 4: kind of educational educational format, so to kind of give
- 12:17Speaker 4: a rundown of what options there are in dentistry and
- 12:21Speaker 4: then dental education the least amount from the least amount
- 12:26Speaker 4: of education required to the most. The first of all
- 12:31Speaker 4: I did and my father and others in our group
- 12:35Speaker 4: used to teach at Putnam County Career and Technical Center.
- 12:39Speaker 4: So that was an example of how a high school
- 12:43Speaker 4: student could graduate high school with their dental assistance certification.
- 12:49Speaker 4: Like many other trades, you can go to a two
- 12:52Speaker 4: year program while in high school, receive that training, and
- 12:55Speaker 4: once you graduate high school, you're ready to go and
- 12:58Speaker 4: work into the go into the work force as a
- 13:00Speaker 4: dental assistant. So that would be the least amount of
- 13:04Speaker 4: training as far as clinical dentistry goes the now. Truthfully,
- 13:11Speaker 4: to be employed in a dental office, you really do
- 13:14Speaker 4: not have to go to any training after high school
- 13:17Speaker 4: or within high school to work receptionist as well as
- 13:23Speaker 4: dental assisting. Technically, you don't have to have that training.
- 13:25Speaker 4: There are many of the best assistants out there that
- 13:28Speaker 4: have just done on the job training, which is a
- 13:30Speaker 4: great way to do that as well. So as we
- 13:33Speaker 4: found in dentistry, it's all about your attitude that that
- 13:36Speaker 4: really determines your altitude.
- 13:37Speaker 3: To use that.
- 13:39Speaker 2: So that sounds like something is said at conferences a lot.
- 13:43Speaker 4: I think that's the same egerivism though nice drilled into
- 13:47Speaker 4: my into my head.
- 13:48Speaker 3: I'm gonna have to put that in my pocket, that's right.
- 13:50Speaker 4: So the so after dental assisting, then some choose to
- 13:55Speaker 4: go to dental hygiene and that's near and near to
- 13:57Speaker 4: my heart. My wife is a dental hygienist one of
- 13:59Speaker 4: my as well. But we have a lot of great
- 14:03Speaker 4: programs around the state. Bridge Valley is one here that's
- 14:07Speaker 4: near to us that we see a lot of their graduates.
- 14:10Speaker 4: That is an associate's degree program that is two years.
- 14:15Speaker 4: Typically Now you do have to have prerequisite so many
- 14:18Speaker 4: times to enter into that program, so sometimes it takes
- 14:21Speaker 4: a bit of getting some undergraduate courses under your belt
- 14:27Speaker 4: before you can be accepted into that program. Then there
- 14:31Speaker 4: are four year dental hygiene degrees that WVU provides that
- 14:36Speaker 4: and that is a true bachelor's degree that you finish
- 14:41Speaker 4: after four years in undergrad There. Then after dental hygiene
- 14:45Speaker 4: you can go on to dental school. Now you do
- 14:48Speaker 4: not have to do dental hygiene before dental school. For instance,
- 14:51Speaker 4: I did undergraduate and then went to dental school for
- 14:55Speaker 4: four years. And some aren't sure how long dental school asked,
- 14:59Speaker 4: that's one of most common questions people are thinking about it.
- 15:01Speaker 4: How long does it take? And you typically get an
- 15:04Speaker 4: undergraduate degree and then your doctorate degree in dentistry after
- 15:08Speaker 4: four years of dental school. Then there are dental specialties
- 15:12Speaker 4: after that that you can do fellowships and specialization and
- 15:18Speaker 4: residencies in and those can be anywhere from one to
- 15:21Speaker 4: six years, depending on which specialty you go into. But
- 15:24Speaker 4: that's kind of the rundown of what it takes to
- 15:28Speaker 4: get into dentistry. But we at Garib Dental Group always
- 15:32Speaker 4: want to encourage students furthering their education within dentistry itself.
- 15:38Speaker 2: That's that's a lot of information and there's a lot
- 15:40Speaker 2: of different pathways you can go there. I'm assuming I
- 15:43Speaker 2: shouldn't assume, I'll ask the question, are there It sounds
- 15:46Speaker 2: like that there would be a path there for maybe
- 15:49Speaker 2: somebody that started in a program for being in a
- 15:54Speaker 2: hygiene hygienis program that if you decided to take it
- 15:58Speaker 2: the next step further, that you could then.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Go to to become a dentist as well.
- 16:02Speaker 2: So you can kind of take a path where you
- 16:05Speaker 2: could be either and then if you decided to go further,
- 16:06Speaker 2: you could be a dentist. If not, you could stop
- 16:08Speaker 2: it being a hygienist. That is it that path work
- 16:10Speaker 2: or well not really, but yes.
- 16:14Speaker 5: Yeah, the reason I asked questions, So, if you're in
- 16:18Speaker 5: hygiene school, you can't just say, all right, now I'm
- 16:20Speaker 5: gonna switch over to the dental side. There's there's no
- 16:22Speaker 5: real like flip on that, however, because being a hygienist,
- 16:26Speaker 5: or at least the four year program is a bachelor's program.
- 16:30Speaker 5: If you complete that four years of being a bachelor's
- 16:33Speaker 5: in science in a dental hygiene I don't know if
- 16:35Speaker 5: it's science or or whatever, then you can say, oh, well,
- 16:40Speaker 5: I don't I don't want to stop. I'm gonna keep going.
- 16:42Speaker 5: Then you can then enter apply and enter into dental school.
- 16:46Speaker 5: And so dental school is its own thing beyond having
- 16:49Speaker 5: an undergraduate bachelor's degree. And so the answer is yes,
- 16:53Speaker 5: but there's no like switch if that makes sense.
- 16:55Speaker 3: Yeah, no, that makes that makes complete sense.
- 16:57Speaker 2: And and much like just just just dentists, hygienis are
- 17:01Speaker 2: also in demand now, the defined quality hygienis is also
- 17:04Speaker 2: in demand, very.
- 17:05Speaker 3: High demand at the moment. That's true.
- 17:08Speaker 4: Everything kind of waxes and wanes a bit, but ebbs
- 17:11Speaker 4: and flows. But nonetheless.
- 17:14Speaker 3: The whichever.
- 17:19Speaker 4: I think you know what I mean, though, So and
- 17:22Speaker 4: to further answer your question about dental hygiene, dental school
- 17:26Speaker 4: is very competitive. For instance, WVU receives I believe around
- 17:34Speaker 4: two thousand, close to two thousand applicants per year, and
- 17:37Speaker 4: our class every year is about forty to forty five.
- 17:40Speaker 4: I forget the exact number right now, but so it's
- 17:43Speaker 4: a very low percentage of the applicants that are accepted. Now,
- 17:47Speaker 4: if an applicant has very good grades and they are
- 17:51Speaker 4: also a dental hygienist and have all their prerequisites, that
- 17:54Speaker 4: would give them definitely a leg up, I would say
- 17:57Speaker 4: on in getting accepted. So again to address your question,
- 18:02Speaker 4: it's not an automatic now I'm just going to decide
- 18:04Speaker 4: to roll into dentistry. But you do have a good
- 18:06Speaker 4: benefit an advantage applying to dental school at that point,
- 18:10Speaker 4: and some people choose that path and right after dental
- 18:13Speaker 4: hygiene they'll go right into applying for dental school. Yes,
- 18:17Speaker 4: and again, dental hygiene you said is in demand, and
- 18:21Speaker 4: it truly is. We have quite a shortage of dental
- 18:24Speaker 4: hygienis in West Virginia in general, and a lot of
- 18:29Speaker 4: that has to do with outside forces pulling people away
- 18:32Speaker 4: from the state. But we're we try to keep them
- 18:36Speaker 4: here and keep them happy. So that is true.
- 18:39Speaker 3: That's great information.
- 18:40Speaker 2: I was wondering, like, if you're in high school and
- 18:42Speaker 2: you're a sophomore or junior right now, and maybe you're
- 18:45Speaker 2: interested in getting to this field one way or the other,
- 18:47Speaker 2: is certain thing you could do to sort of prep
- 18:48Speaker 2: yourself for emissions to get ready to go to higher education.
- 18:52Speaker 2: If you're really interested in getting into dental school one
- 18:55Speaker 2: way or the.
- 18:55Speaker 4: Other, for sure, and if it's something that you are
- 18:58Speaker 4: really set on as a high school student or even
- 19:01Speaker 4: a middle school student. I remember applying to dental school
- 19:05Speaker 4: eons ago. That's now it's been as different, I'm sure now,
- 19:09Speaker 4: and it's more competitive. As as I've said before, they
- 19:13Speaker 4: probably went let me in at this point. But when
- 19:17Speaker 4: I was interviewing, they were going back and looking at
- 19:20Speaker 4: my high school transcripts. It's like, guys, that's a long
- 19:23Speaker 4: time ago. You know, what's the deal. I thought I
- 19:25Speaker 4: thought that was behind me, you know, But no, it's
- 19:28Speaker 4: the bottom line is get good grades. You get your
- 19:31Speaker 4: grades up as competitively as possible, and a lot of
- 19:36Speaker 4: a lot of dentistry is about time investment. Shadowing at
- 19:42Speaker 4: dental offices is a really important thing, and it truly is.
- 19:46Speaker 4: I don't know if it's a written down requirement, but
- 19:48Speaker 4: at least it's unspoken now, if not written down, that
- 19:51Speaker 4: you need to have about one hundred and fifty shadowing
- 19:54Speaker 4: hours prior to applying to dental school. So it's yeah,
- 19:58Speaker 4: it can be demanding, but you have to be motivated
- 20:02Speaker 4: to do it, and it's it's not unattainable by any means.
- 20:06Speaker 4: And there are certain prerequisites even if you if you
- 20:09Speaker 4: are if you do have that bachelor's of Science and
- 20:11Speaker 4: dental hygiene, for instance, there are still some prerequisite courses
- 20:16Speaker 4: that need to be taken. And for someone wanting to
- 20:19Speaker 4: go as quickly as they came into dental school, really
- 20:23Speaker 4: it probably is a little quicker to do. A bachelor's
- 20:27Speaker 4: of science focused on biology or chemistry is traditionally the
- 20:30Speaker 4: way it's done. However, people do it many different ways.
- 20:34Speaker 4: Now you don't have to specially to select those as
- 20:37Speaker 4: your majors in undergraduate, but those get you all the
- 20:41Speaker 4: required courses to then apply to dental school.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.
- 20:47Speaker 5: And so the reason we're bringing this up is we
- 20:50Speaker 5: want West Virginians to stay in West Virginia and we
- 20:53Speaker 5: want the West Virginia kids, the West Virginia young adults,
- 20:56Speaker 5: the young future leaders of our state in our name,
- 21:00Speaker 5: to stay here. And so we want to encourage them
- 21:02Speaker 5: to reach for their dreams and reach their goals and
- 21:07Speaker 5: go into these dental careers and then go, Wow, I
- 21:11Speaker 5: just love the state so much. I want to come
- 21:12Speaker 5: back and invest my time here as well. For example,
- 21:16Speaker 5: I actually had a meeting this past week in Morgantown
- 21:18Speaker 5: where it's these the admission numbers are actually discussed, which
- 21:23Speaker 5: is really neat, and it is forty eight per year
- 21:27Speaker 5: are accepted into dental school.
- 21:28Speaker 3: Wow. Wow, that's it just competitive. Wow yeah yeah.
- 21:32Speaker 5: And I think there were like fifteen hundred or something
- 21:34Speaker 5: two thousand, let's just say two thousand, because it doesn't matter,
- 21:38Speaker 5: like I don't know now, when you're that high, it's
- 21:40Speaker 5: like who gets in, you know, right? And then of
- 21:42Speaker 5: those like fifteen hundred to two thousand, I think sixty
- 21:47Speaker 5: were applying from in state. For the for the year
- 21:50Speaker 5: twenty twenty nine, sixty people applied from the state of
- 21:53Speaker 5: West Virginia. And of those sixty, I believe it was
- 21:56Speaker 5: about thirty that got in from West Virginia. So there's
- 21:59Speaker 5: a very big chance that if you were from West
- 22:01Speaker 5: Virginia and you have the grades, and you have the
- 22:04Speaker 5: community service hours in the commitment to shadow a dentists,
- 22:08Speaker 5: et cetera, et cetera, that the chance of you getting
- 22:11Speaker 5: in is a lot higher than if you're out of state.
- 22:14Speaker 5: Being in state, it was about fifty percent chance of
- 22:17Speaker 5: getting in as long as you have those grades because
- 22:19Speaker 5: the average grade point average, I think was a three
- 22:21Speaker 5: point seventy three, which again, looking back, I'm like, I
- 22:25Speaker 5: couldn't have gotten it, which is hilarious because not Steve
- 22:34Speaker 5: and I are very smart people, but we're looking at
- 22:36Speaker 5: these grade point averages for like how do they have
- 22:38Speaker 5: time to do that and have the community service hours
- 22:41Speaker 5: and the shadowing, and like they're all in all these
- 22:44Speaker 5: leadership things are like presidents of the universities, Like.
- 22:46Speaker 1: What what do they do?
- 22:48Speaker 5: Do they sleep?
- 22:48Speaker 3: Are these humans? I don't know?
- 22:51Speaker 5: And so it is really neat to see our future
- 22:54Speaker 5: West Virginians hopefully see that there is potential here because
- 22:58Speaker 5: as we advance in life, the baby boomers are starting
- 23:02Speaker 5: to retire more and more and more, and so we're
- 23:04Speaker 5: finding that we need these yarned nests to step up
- 23:06Speaker 5: and start kind of investing their time and growing and
- 23:10Speaker 5: maybe buying a practice or becoming an associate with us,
- 23:14Speaker 5: you know, So we've we're trying to grow our practices
- 23:16Speaker 5: so that we can have those opportunities for them. So
- 23:18Speaker 5: it's it's not just us, but it's the young people
- 23:20Speaker 5: that need to come back as well.
- 23:21Speaker 3: We'll follow up on that a little bit when we
- 23:22Speaker 3: come back.
- 23:23Speaker 2: We want to talk it a little bit about the
- 23:24Speaker 2: personality types maybe that would marry themselves well to be
- 23:28Speaker 2: in in dentistry and things along those lines. With you,
- 23:31Speaker 2: doctor Stephen, it was literally a family thing since what
- 23:34Speaker 2: nineteen seventy five, right with your dad. So we want
- 23:37Speaker 2: to talk a little bit about if maybe you weren't
- 23:39Speaker 2: born into it, what how you know, maybe you're inspired
- 23:42Speaker 2: to get into the field. So we're going to talk
- 23:44Speaker 2: about that a little bit when we come back. We'll
- 23:45Speaker 2: take a break and be back right after this. You're
- 23:47Speaker 2: listening to ask the expert that the doctors are here
- 23:49Speaker 2: from Greed Denial Group. Doctor Carson is here as well
- 23:51Speaker 2: as doctor Steven give us call this morning. Threes are

- 24:04Speaker 6: They're lying about Tom Tacubo. Out of state special interest
- 24:07Speaker 6: groups are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on attack
- 24:11Speaker 6: ads because they want their hand picked candidate in office,
- 24:14Speaker 6: one who answers to them instead of you. Here's the
- 24:18Speaker 6: truth about State Senator Tom Toacubo's actual record. He voted
- 24:22Speaker 6: to keep boys out of girls' sports, he voted to
- 24:25Speaker 6: ban transgender surgeries on miners, he voted to keep boys
- 24:29Speaker 6: out of girls' bathrooms, and he voted for every bill
- 24:32Speaker 6: to ban puberty blockers, not once, every single time. As
- 24:38Speaker 6: the father of two daughters and a son, doctor Tom
- 24:40Speaker 6: Tacubo has never wavered on protecting West Virginia children, and
- 24:44Speaker 6: his voting record proves it. These outside groups don't live here,
- 24:48Speaker 6: they don't pay taxes here, and they don't care about
- 24:51Speaker 6: your family. Don't let their money rewrite the truth. Vote
- 24:56Speaker 6: Tom to Cubo, a proven conservative fighting for West Virginia families.
- 25:01Speaker 6: Paid for by Tom Takubo for Senate.
- 25:03Speaker 7: I'm Michael Jeruje and I'm running for State Senate because
- 25:06Speaker 7: I believe our kids deserve real opportunities right here at home.
- 25:09Speaker 7: I'm focused on what matters most to us, creating good
- 25:11Speaker 7: paying jobs, strengthening our schools, investing in roads, bridges and infrastructure.
- 25:16Speaker 7: As a small business owner, I know what it means
- 25:18Speaker 7: to work hard, meet a payroll, and fight for growth,
- 25:20Speaker 7: and I'll bring that same work ethic to the state Senate.
- 25:23Speaker 8: Kennell County needs a proven job creator. Michael Jeruge employs
- 25:26Speaker 8: forty people at his local business and understands how to
- 25:29Speaker 8: grow our economy from the ground up. Paid for by
- 25:32Speaker 8: Michael Jerusee for Senate.
- 25:33Speaker 9: Do you want to see your doctor when you make
- 25:35Speaker 9: an appointment, then you should see doctor William Harris, an
- 25:38Speaker 9: old fashioned doctor who has the latest medical knowledge and
- 25:42Speaker 9: expertise in diagnosis and treatment. Doctor Harris is boarded in
- 25:45Speaker 9: family medicine and has added certification in geriatrics, a rarity
- 25:49Speaker 9: these days. Doctor Harris is located at the CAMC Medical

- 26:29Speaker 2: the end of the month of April. May is right
- 26:30Speaker 2: around the corner. If you can believe that, I'm having
- 26:32Speaker 2: a hard time believing that we're that far along in
- 26:36Speaker 2: the year. In studio with me this morning, GARB Dental
- 26:38Speaker 2: Group is here, Doctor Carson, doctor Steven or in studio

- 27:09Speaker 2: to hear the shows well once they're over, Yes, there's
- 27:11Speaker 2: podcast so WCSS network dot com slash podcast you can

- 27:19Speaker 2: Live are both on there every day about an hour
- 27:21Speaker 2: or so after they're over, so you can check those
- 27:23Speaker 2: out over there at a pretty much anytime after the
- 27:26Speaker 2: shows are over. We're talking to greed Dental Group this morning.
- 27:29Speaker 2: We've been talking. We opened up the show talking a
- 27:31Speaker 2: little bit about the new Bento insurance with Connel School employees,
- 27:35Speaker 2: so you might want to check that out. That's something
- 27:38Speaker 2: we opened up talking about talking about career paths now
- 27:41Speaker 2: in the various career paths and dentistry. And one of
- 27:43Speaker 2: the things I wanted to ask you about is famously
- 27:46Speaker 2: doctor Stephen Year from the Greeb family and so I
- 27:50Speaker 2: think since nineteen seventy five and Poka that.
- 27:53Speaker 4: The pocus started, Yeah, where dad started it all.
- 27:55Speaker 2: So you've been the Greeb Dental Group or Greeb's as
- 28:00Speaker 2: family of dentists have been in the in the Canall
- 28:02Speaker 2: Valley forever. I mean as far as uh, I mean
- 28:05Speaker 2: we're talking generations now, as far as that goes. So
- 28:07Speaker 2: you were literally born into it, and I mean I'm
- 28:09Speaker 2: I'm assuming maybe not everybody and your family gets into
- 28:12Speaker 2: dentistry one way or the other, but it's one step away.
- 28:14Speaker 3: It's very it's very close.
- 28:16Speaker 4: It's funny because I always tell the story. I'm I
- 28:18Speaker 4: was the only one. We have five children in my family.
- 28:20Speaker 4: I was the only one from kindergarten all the way through.
- 28:23Speaker 4: It's I was going to be a dentist and step
- 28:25Speaker 4: kept with it all the way, and then others took
- 28:28Speaker 4: other paths, but then they all came back. It's the
- 28:33Speaker 4: black hole.
- 28:34Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 28:35Speaker 4: It sucks, sucks everybody in what this worked out quite well.
- 28:39Speaker 2: You've seen all kinds and of course uh uh doctor Carson, Uh,
- 28:43Speaker 2: I guess famously as is like an adopted greed but
- 28:46Speaker 2: right and brought.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Him in infamously but or infamously. Yeah, that's right.
- 28:51Speaker 2: But what do you see obviously, Singer family, you've seen
- 28:54Speaker 2: a lot of people, that's that's uh, that's been through
- 28:56Speaker 2: this industry. You've met a lot of folks. What what
- 28:57Speaker 2: do you think is the calling that you find common
- 29:00Speaker 2: and folks that that that enjoy this, this is their passion.
- 29:04Speaker 2: What is it that you find common in those?
- 29:06Speaker 4: So what's really a common thread amongst all dentists that
- 29:09Speaker 4: I know is that we want to help people. We
- 29:11Speaker 4: got into this profession to use our skills and develop
- 29:15Speaker 4: skills that can help our fellow man. So that's that's
- 29:18Speaker 4: really I think the bottom line with that. But what's
- 29:21Speaker 4: very interesting in dentistry is you kind of ask about
- 29:24Speaker 4: personality types and that's what I also love about our
- 29:27Speaker 4: industry is that any personality can find a place in dentistry.
- 29:32Speaker 4: And that's where it's it's quite interesting to watch dental
- 29:37Speaker 4: students as they mature and as they approach graduation. What
- 29:40Speaker 4: their choices are after graduation has many times a lot
- 29:43Speaker 4: to do with their personality. If they like interacting with people,
- 29:47Speaker 4: If they like talking with people, they may lean more
- 29:50Speaker 4: toward a general dentistry slant where you have a traditional
- 29:55Speaker 4: practice where you interact with a lot of patients and
- 29:57Speaker 4: then you can build that practice around your personality as well.
- 30:01Speaker 4: Or maybe they like kids, so they're going to lean
- 30:04Speaker 4: toward pedodontic pediatric dentistry that where you're dealing with children,
- 30:10Speaker 4: maybe you don't like talking to people at all, so
- 30:12Speaker 4: you'll become an indodnist surgeon where your patients asleep, you know,
- 30:17Speaker 4: you don't have to talk to them. So I mean,
- 30:18Speaker 4: that's that's also a little bit into the personality. Of course,
- 30:21Speaker 4: it's not a carte blanche with the it's it's not
- 30:23Speaker 4: a blanket statement for everything. But but that is that
- 30:27Speaker 4: is interesting to see how within dentistry, I believe any
- 30:30Speaker 4: personality can really can really thrive.
- 30:33Speaker 2: And and if you are if it is a career
- 30:36Speaker 2: path that you're that you're into and you are I
- 30:38Speaker 2: mentioned a moment ago somebody maybe that's rising in high
- 30:41Speaker 2: school and coming out through those that area, what is
- 30:45Speaker 2: there any should you reach out to grieve dental group
- 30:48Speaker 2: or just your career counselor I mean, what's the like
- 30:50Speaker 2: what steps should you take? Is like, okay, well let
- 30:51Speaker 2: me at least get the information and let me start
- 30:53Speaker 2: looking at what I need to do to get to
- 30:55Speaker 2: that level when I start getting to college.
- 30:57Speaker 5: So number one, first ask your dentist you have a
- 31:00Speaker 5: dental home, and so if not, get a dnists, if
- 31:03Speaker 5: you don't have a getting a dentist is very important
- 31:08Speaker 5: and just experience it, see how they do things. Try
- 31:11Speaker 5: to spend a little extra time noticing how the how
- 31:15Speaker 5: the hygienis interacts with the front desk and the front
- 31:17Speaker 5: us interacts with the dentists, and see, like, could I
- 31:20Speaker 5: find myself working in an environment like this? Not everyone can.
- 31:25Speaker 5: It is very close quarters. I hear everything that happens
- 31:29Speaker 5: in my office, which is great. I love doing it. Also,
- 31:32Speaker 5: it gets loud sometimes and it's just kind of a
- 31:35Speaker 5: fun environment.
- 31:36Speaker 3: Right now.
- 31:36Speaker 5: Everyone likes that if you want to be in a
- 31:39Speaker 5: in a closet with the door shut, become a radiologist,
- 31:41Speaker 5: right And so there are different pathways to where you
- 31:45Speaker 5: can kind of use your personality to shine or shine
- 31:49Speaker 5: in different ways. Because there's not one modality to become
- 31:52Speaker 5: a dentist. There's not one modality become a specialist. You
- 31:56Speaker 5: can kind of make it your own. And so one
- 31:58Speaker 5: one of my favorite qutes that Doutters even told me
- 32:00Speaker 5: was how patients or dentists attract like patients. And so
- 32:05Speaker 5: if you're kind of a fun guy and you're kind
- 32:08Speaker 5: of happy and happy, go lucky, then you're going to
- 32:10Speaker 5: attract patients that are kind of happy, go lucky. If
- 32:12Speaker 5: if you're a curmudgeon, you might attract curmudge and patients
- 32:14Speaker 5: right anyway. And so I kind of took that with
- 32:17Speaker 5: me and said, I'm gonna no matter what, when I'm
- 32:19Speaker 5: walking into a room, I'm going to say, hey, how
- 32:21Speaker 5: are we doing today? I'm going to build kind of
- 32:23Speaker 5: create that energy to where I kind of want to
- 32:26Speaker 5: have the patient reflect that back to me and go, oh,
- 32:28Speaker 5: this is a place where not only we're going to
- 32:31Speaker 5: be treated well and be treated right, but we're going
- 32:33Speaker 5: to have a good time while we do it, at
- 32:35Speaker 5: least as best a good time as we can. As
- 32:37Speaker 5: you know, our mouth is open with you know, high
- 32:39Speaker 5: speed instruments flying around, but we do our best to
- 32:42Speaker 5: make it comfortable and fun. And so that's kind of
- 32:44Speaker 5: what my goal is as a dentist a.
- 32:48Speaker 2: Grieve Dental Group. That was doctor Carson Henley from GREEV
- 32:50Speaker 2: Dental Group. More information online Grievedentalgroup dot com, g H
- 32:53Speaker 2: A R E B. Grieve Dentalgroup dot com.
- 32:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:55Speaker 4: So, to further answer the question about what can a
- 32:58Speaker 4: student do now, as dot org Henley was alluding to,
- 33:01Speaker 4: is to get into an office and shadow do we
- 33:04Speaker 4: talked about shadowing earlier.
- 33:06Speaker 3: We accept.
- 33:08Speaker 4: Potential dentights all the time. People interested in various aspects
- 33:14Speaker 4: of dentistry. They call us and say, hey, can we
