- 0:00Welcome back to Fruit of Love Island.
- 0:03AI fruit Love Island has now blocked me and I wonder why.
- 0:07AI fruit Love Island has changed the influencer world more than I
- 0:09think people understand. The last time I saw growth like
- 0:12that page, like 2 million followers in a week was Charlie
- 0:16d'emilio. Y'all clearly don't hate AI as
- 0:18much as y'all say you do because what is AI fruit Love island Hey
- 0:22guys, what's up? It's emergency and welcome
- 0:23welcome back to my channel. And today we are talking about a
- 0:26recent phenomena that has been taking over pretty much
- 0:29everyone's for you page and that has been the AI slop sensation
- 0:33of AI fruit Love Island. And if for some reason your free
- 0:37page has been spared from actually seeing these AI Fruit
- 0:40Love Island videos and or people talking about or reacting to it,
- 0:43then congratulations, you officially made it out of AI
- 0:46slop jail. However, I do got to say like
- 0:48you laying on this video of me reacting and talking about it
- 0:51means that you may just be entering the pipeline.
- 0:53I'm sorry but AI fruit Love Island is just that, an AI
- 0:57generated version of Love Island and accepts everyone is a fruit.
- 1:02And no, I'm sorry to disappoint but this is not AI breaking
- 1:05boundaries and making the first gay Love island.
- 1:06I mean literal fruit. Like there's literally a
- 1:10character in this called Strawberryna.
- 1:12Yeah right. And like I said, this is
- 1:14essentially just regular Love Island but completely AI
- 1:17generated and in the worst way possible because it's just
- 1:21actual AI slop. Like this isn't me saying that
- 1:24to batch AI, it is actually an intentionally AI slop.
- 1:27Like it's not super convincing or hyper realistic.
- 1:30In fact a lot of the two to three minute videos consist of
- 1:32those eight to 10 second snippets that is typical for
- 1:35video generated AI. And it just looks bad.
- 1:37Characters look different from scene to scene, their
- 1:39expressions are very different, the voices don't match.
- 1:42It is genuinely AI slop and it genuinely looks bad.
- 1:45And it's kind of crazy to say but that's why people love it.
- 1:48And we're going to get more into that because like I said, I feel
- 1:50like y'all really don't hate AI content as much as y'all say you
- 1:54do. And the real issue here is that
- 1:56y'all hate being tricked by AI. Like it's only stop using AI, we
- 2:00hate AI when it comes to generative AI that's too hyper
- 2:04realistic that is convincing enough to trick you and deceive
- 2:06you. But the second that it's some
- 2:08kind of AI slop where it's just kind of funny in camp or
- 2:11whatever you want to call it, y'all are just fine watching it.
- 2:14And I know y'all are fine watching and supporting it
- 2:16because the numbers don't lie. The AI fruit love island series
- 2:20was stacking up 10s of millions of views per video and they were
- 2:24posting everyday. Like when do we really become so
- 2:26OK with loving AI slop? Because again, this is just the
- 2:29AI slop classification of like the TikTok soap operas.
- 2:32Like we know everyone loves Love Island and Love Island was huge
- 2:34on social media on TikTok last summer.
- 2:36And we're a couple months out from getting season 8 of US Love
- 2:39Island. So I get the hype is there and
- 2:41people are itching for Love Island content.
- 2:42But the fact that we're running to the first forms of AI slop to
- 2:45get like our Love Island fix is kind of crazy.
- 2:48And it's the fact that it's being so heavily promoted and so
- 2:50heavily publicized that it's being consumed.
- 2:52Like you have people like Kayla and Janae Craig from season 6 of
- 2:54Love Island coming forward and saying like, Oh yeah, I'm
- 2:56watching it. Like we're so entertained, which
- 2:58to me is a little crazy. Then, you know, people like Zara
- 3:00Larsson coming forward being like, Oh my God, yes, who else
- 3:02is watching the AI Love Island stuff?
- 3:04And because she has the audience that she does, her audience
- 3:06essentially ate her up for me. Like, girl, what are you doing?
- 3:08And she deleted that post and has since apologized.
- 3:11But that's kind of not the point.
- 3:12The point here is that we have now reached that next stage of
- 3:15public adoption of AI and specifically generative AI.
- 3:18And I think that this is all coming at an interesting time
- 3:20where open AI is publicly shutting down Sora, which was
- 3:23their generative AI video, all while we're seeing AI generated
- 3:26videos spike in surge on social media.
- 3:28Like when I say this stuff, it's everywhere.
- 3:30It's really everywhere. Like we are beyond people just
- 3:32using ChatGPT and other forms of AI and LLMS to answer your
- 3:36branding questions, to be your makeshift therapist and to do
- 3:39your work for you. It's now taking on another
- 3:41aspect of our lives and being our source of entertainment.
- 3:44Like, I know it's a spooky place, but if you've been on
- 3:46Twitter anytime recently, I'm sure you have seen many and many
- 3:50different AI generated videos of either those AI generated like
- 3:53humanoid animal videos with like the cat version of like Billy
- 3:56Eilish is what was I made for going through and running
- 3:59through a myriad of random different confusing App Store ad
- 4:04ish, TikTok, soap opera ish video content, if you can call
- 4:08it that. And if you check the plays on
- 4:09those videos, there's a lot of them.
- 4:11Like we're talking millions. And this isn't just for Twitter.
- 4:14It's on reels, it's on Schwartz, it's on TikTok, It's everywhere
- 4:16that people are consuming this AI slot content.
- 4:18And the thing about it is like it's not intended to be good.
- 4:21Like it's meant to be slop. And I don't mean a yuck anyone's
- 4:24Yum. But when it comes to generated
- 4:26AI content, I am going to yuck your Yum.
- 4:27Like, come on, let's aspire for hire, you know?
- 4:29And I think when asked aspect of this when it comes to things
- 4:31like fruit, lob island is the cuteness factor of it all.
- 4:33Like I said, these sorts of videos generally have either a
- 4:36humanoid animal or a humanoid fruit where the videos look
- 4:39really engaging and cutesy and almost like cocoa melonish, like
- 4:42adult cocoa melon. Like I think back to those
- 4:43videos from a couple months ago where they'd have different food
- 4:46ingredients screaming at you about how you should store and
- 4:48prepare them and like the health benefits of these different
- 4:50items. But now it's just evolved to the
- 4:52form of brain rot that we're seeing now.
- 4:53And the brain rot aspect of it isn't really that bad because I
- 4:56think brain rot is fine. I think where this becomes
- 4:59especially predatory or at least problematic is the fact that a
- 5:02lot of these AI generated videos where it is all cutesy,
- 5:05seemingly family friendly, seemingly really PG, often times
- 5:09carry very suggestive undertones or just outwardly suggestive
- 5:12storylines where the content is either graphic or just outwardly
- 5:15sexualized. And I think that's so, so weird
- 5:18considering how much mass appeal these videos have and the fact
- 5:21that they do look so family friendly and bubbly and just
- 5:24generally attractive to children for being so colorful, being so
- 5:27bright, being so animated. And, you know, child Internet
- 5:29supervision is in the gutter because it's always been like, I
- 5:32was 1011 years old getting groomed on Kik cause ain't
- 5:34nobody was watching what I was doing.
- 5:35And the excuse back then was that the Internet was new.
- 5:38And like, parents didn't really know what was going on.
- 5:39The internet's been around for a while now.
- 5:41And I know AI and this whole generative AI thing is
- 5:43relatively new, but like, we know what is appropriate and
- 5:45what should be online and what shouldn't be.
- 5:47And the fact that the people making these videos are using
- 5:49what I like to call these fruit Sonas, like these fruit personas
- 5:52to act out these very suggestive, very problematic
- 5:56things is just sick to me. Because again, it gets worse.
- 5:58It's not just sexualized, It's not just graphic.
- 6:00Oftentimes a lot of these sorts of generative AI videos are just
- 6:04blatantly often echo racist, homophobic, misogynistic content
- 6:08and rhetoric. But because the characters
- 6:10saying it are all cutesified is not seen as threatening and
- 6:13sinister as it really is. Which again, brings us back to
- 6:16AI fruit Love Island. And more specifically to do with
- 6:18why I feel like we're just so OK with this whole AI fruit Love
- 6:22Island thing of it all because this is the first time that
- 6:25there has been this much of A mainstream push towards people
- 6:28being so interested in this. Like you have this one guy that
- 6:31created this account like 2 weeks ago as of filming this
- 6:33video. And the account has millions and
- 6:34millions of followers getting 10's and millions of views each
- 6:37video that have daily fan voting so people can choose what
- 6:41happens in the next episode. Like it's sick.
- 6:43People are truly engaged with this stuff.
- 6:45And that's what makes me believe that we are only OK with non
- 6:48deceptive forms of AI. AI that's not trying to trick
- 6:51you into thinking it's not AI, if that makes sense.
- 6:53And I think that this one TikTok creator puts it so, so well.
- 6:56We've had two years of AI slob already.
- 6:58This stuff again in 2023. So we've all gotten pretty used
- 7:01to it. And some of the earliest big AI
- 7:03memes that I covered when I was at Know You're Me.
- 7:04More stuff like Pope Francis in the puffer jacket.
- 7:07The crazy thing was that the technology could produce an
- 7:09image that looked so real that it might fool you.
- 7:11Now, we've already been fooled so many times by it, and we are
- 7:13kind of sick of it. And it feels deceptive.
- 7:15And there's a lot of negative press about like the data
- 7:18centers and what AI can do. And so we can only accept it if
- 7:21it kind of knowingly signals to us that we're in on the joke,
- 7:25rather than being fooled by companies or scammers.
- 7:28But I think the initial push of visual AI over the past few
- 7:31years has put a very sour taste in a lot of people's mouths and
- 7:34is now having the opposite effect of how people interact
- 7:37with AI. Like instead of having to
- 7:39question whether or not something is actually AI or not,
- 7:41and whether or not you're being deceived by some sort of deep
- 7:43fake, by some sort of video manipulation, you can kind of
- 7:46just turn your brain off and enjoy the content because you
- 7:49don't have to think whether or not you're being tricked because
- 7:51it's clear that you're not. Like I fear that the brides and
- 7:53AI skepticism across all forms of media has really caused us to
- 7:57sort of look towards these more unserious forms of
- 8:01entertainment. Essentially the brain rot or the
- 8:03reality TV baddies ification of AI, if that makes sense.
- 8:06Like it's coming about for very similar reasons that reality TV
- 8:09in and of itself came out being something that was so different
- 8:11from traditional TV of being super serious, scripted,
- 8:13dramaticized to the point where you're like, I don't know if
- 8:15this is real or fake. And launching something that was
- 8:17super crass and off the wall. And that you didn't have to
- 8:20really think about too hard or question whether or not this is
- 8:22really being scripted or not because you can't script the
- 8:24stuff that happens on reality TVI mean, you can manipulate and
- 8:28draw narrative, but people themselves are just being
- 8:30themselves. And I think it's kind of similar
- 8:32here, like a lot of the public sentiment and a lot of the
- 8:33comments on these AI TikTok fruit lob island, that's a long
- 8:37sharing of words. I'm sorry.
- 8:38Talk about how it's crazy that they're actually enjoying AI
- 8:40content and that they enjoy it for the sake of the memes
- 8:42because it's so camp. And that's sort of the important
- 8:44part here. Like the whole reason why people
- 8:46are really jumping on this AI fruit lob island bandwagon is
- 8:50because it makes people feel like they're being a part of the
- 8:52joke. They're a part of the in crowd,
- 8:54they're a part of the meme. And they get the campness of it
- 8:56all, like both of them as the viewer and the content that they
- 8:58are watching are both and on the joke that this is unserious.
- 9:01This is meant to be slopped. This is meant to not be all of
- 9:03that polished, deceptive AI stuff that otherwise floods our
- 9:07daily lives on screen and off screen.
- 9:09And this is something that everyone can laugh at and for
- 9:12the creator of these videos profit from.
- 9:14And that's sort of another one that we got to draw because the
- 9:16person who's making this generative AI Love Island series
- 9:19is probably making bank because these videos are going over the
- 9:22one minute mark on TikTok and are getting 10s of millions of
- 9:25views. Like it is printing money for
- 9:27them off of arguably not even arguably just stolen IP.
- 9:30Like they directly use the love Island sound effects, the love
- 9:32Island plot narratives and just IP and concept.
- 9:35And I think that's why, spoiler alert, a lot of the AI fruit
- 9:38Love Island videos got taken down by TikTok because people
- 9:41were reporting them. And I think that makes sense
- 9:43because you're making a lot of money off of someone's IP and
- 9:45you're making a lot of money off of entirely AI generated
- 9:48content, which I don't know how I feel about, but getting back
- 9:50to the whole concept being a part of the joke and the
- 9:51campness of it. All right, this all kind of
- 9:53reminds me of this stage of the Internet's version of like
- 9:57YouTube poops, because that's a essentially what it is.
- 9:59If you were there for that era of the Internet.
- 10:00Like the YouTube Poop was essentially just taking IP,
- 10:03taking an already existing character or franchise and
- 10:06editing it to customize the experience to make the
- 10:08characters do things that they may not already do that
- 10:11generally are more crass, raunchy, meme worthy, and often
- 10:14times problematic. Like I remember growing up as a
- 10:15kid going on YouTube back in like 2000, 9/10/11 when I was a
- 10:21child and seeing these SpongeBob in China YouTube hoops, which
- 10:24were incredibly problematic, but we're highly viewed for very
- 10:26similar reason. It's like the essence of a
- 10:28problematic parody. With all that said, though, it
- 10:30really drives the question of like, what's next now, because
- 10:33we're already here. The damage has metaphorically
- 10:36already been done. We've seen that this has been a
- 10:38success and this is a success. And I think the fear here, at
- 10:41least for me actually, before I get into the fear, I do want to
- 10:44give out lashings really quick. I do think it's really funny
- 10:46that the owner of the AI Fruitlove Island series, after
- 10:49his account got banned or the videos got taken down, they're
- 10:52crashing out on their TikTok stories, which I've actually
- 10:54never seen happen before. Concerning.
- 10:56But my general fear for all this is that this is going to be a
- 10:59case study and this is going to be a point in time where people
- 11:02see the success of this and learn from this and add to it.
- 11:06Because if you want to think industry wide and large scale,
- 11:08this gives studios a very convincing case study and
- 11:12reference point as to what consumers are willing to
- 11:14consume. And if you've been keeping up
- 11:16with any of this stuff that's been going on with like the
- 11:17actors and writers strikes that happen a few years back where
- 11:20one of the things that they were fighting for were AI
- 11:21protections, the actual impact of the resolutions of that TBD.
- 11:25But this is showing to those same executives that the masses
- 11:27are willing to consume slop, which means that they could be
- 11:30more likely to fund AI slop in mainstream media.
- 11:34And since executives like money and cost cutting, that would
- 11:38then mean that they could start defunding actual human creation
- 11:42in favor of cheaper and faster AI slop content.
- 11:44They could just create in one night in one sitting as opposed
- 11:47to instead of paying for an investigation, seeing in the
- 11:49whole pre production, production and promotion process that is
- 11:53typical with current forms of entertainment.
- 11:55And that should alarm you because that may seem like it's
- 11:57coming out of left field and that may seem like a stretch.
- 11:59But nothing exists in a vacuum. And I honestly think it's
- 12:02crazier to think that this story is getting all the mainstream
- 12:05news coverage and all of the press that it has been.
- 12:08And no one is going to learn or glean anything from this to line
- 12:11their own pockets. Because right now it's just that
- 12:13one AI creator making a bag and a very cute 1.
- 12:16So just think of how the execs are thinking about scaling.
- 12:17I don't know, at this point I'm just gapping and I think we've
- 12:20gotten to the point where I don't need to tell you to not
- 12:23support this stuff because I don't know how much now they're
- 12:26going to listen. I think generative AI content in
- 12:28general is bad, especially in the visual forms.
- 12:31However, I am also aware of how hard it is and how intentionally
- 12:35difficult it has been made to avoid using any forms of AII.
- 12:38Know now thanks to y'all that if you want to avoid using like the
- 12:41AI overview thing on Google, you can type in negative AI on the
- 12:45search bar after you put in your search query and it won't show
- 12:47that. But in pretty much everything
- 12:49else now the AI is baked in and this isn't meant to be defeatist
- 12:52and saying like oh throwing our hands up there's nothing we can
- 12:54do but what I will say is to try and limit your AI usage and try
- 12:57and use this little noggin a little bit more because as we've
- 13:00talked about in previous videos before, I'd hate for you to lose
- 13:02the critical thinking skills that I know you have because
- 13:04you're watching videos like this.
- 13:06And please do remain vocal in keeping your foot on the necks
- 13:09of those in power and those policymakers to make sure that
- 13:12we get at least this one thing right.
- 13:14Because whether it's the environmental impacts, the legal
- 13:16intellectual property impacts, the learned helplessness of, or
- 13:19whatever other reason there is to not love AI, let's make sure
- 13:23to not stop talking about it. And please, for the love of God,
- 13:25just wait till June for the real Love Island.
