- 0:00SPEAKER_02: Welcome to Vegas Revealed episode 19.
- 0:02SPEAKER_02: Phase 2 started in Las Vegas.
- 0:04SPEAKER_02: A huge list of businesses are open, and our resort casinos can open on June 4th.
- 0:09SPEAKER_02: We have the rundown.
- 0:11SPEAKER_05: Plus, how have hospitality workers felt throughout this COVID-19 shutdown?
- 0:17SPEAKER_05: A new survey is just out, and we talk with the key players who have these new findings.
- 0:23SPEAKER_02: Plus, our secret tips, all coming up on Vegas Revealed.
- 0:27SPEAKER_05: Vegas Revealed is sponsored by the Blind Pig.
- 0:30SPEAKER_05: They're located just west of the Las Vegas Strip with some really great views from their patio.
- 0:36SPEAKER_02: Pizza, pasta, sandwiches, salad.
- 0:38SPEAKER_02: How about some cheesecake?
- 0:39SPEAKER_02: Order up because they are open for business.
- 0:42SPEAKER_02: You can pick up, get delivery, or stop by the restaurant and dine on the patio.
- 0:47SPEAKER_05: They even have some special pricing going on right now.
- 0:50SPEAKER_05: So call 725-214-4474 to make a reservation or to order from the blind pig.
- 1:13SPEAKER_05: Oh my gosh, finally, our theme song is something that people can actually do and get away to Vegas again.
- 1:20SPEAKER_05: A new phase of reopening is underway.
- 1:24SPEAKER_05: Thanks for being here on Vegas Revealed.
- 1:25SPEAKER_05: I'm Sean McAllister.
- 1:27SPEAKER_02: And I'm Dana Roselli.
- 1:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we are still apart, but excited that we here, Las Vegas Hotel and Casinos, will open on June 4th, including the Venetian, Sean, where we usually record before all of this happens.
- 1:39SPEAKER_02: So we aren't sure exactly when we'll get back in there, but we do know it's a good sign that we'll get back to our studio soon.
- 1:46SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and I mean just looking at the list of properties that are set to reopen on June 4th, were, as you mentioned, the Venetian, also the Sahara, Bellagio, MGM Grand, New York, New York, uh, Flamingo, Caesars Palace, Cosmopolitan, The Wynn.
- 2:06SPEAKER_05: Plus, there's uh some downtown properties.
- 2:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the D plans to open.
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: You know, Derek Stevens, the owner, we've interviewed him before, actually.
- 2:14SPEAKER_02: If you want to listen, episode eight, we talked to him about he's building circa, and apparently that's still on schedule for opening in December.
- 2:21SPEAKER_02: But he also owns the D and plans on opening.
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: And I saw him talking to some uh some notes that he was talking to the media saying, listen, when June 4th comes at 1201, which the governor said properties will be able to open, he plans to reopen right then, and that's so Derek style, isn't it?
- 2:38SPEAKER_05: Well, and he's like going out of his way, really, to bring people back to Las Vegas too.
- 2:44SPEAKER_05: Just uh within the past few days, uh, Derek Stevens announced that he was uh first he bought a round of 1,000 plane tickets to bring people here for free from cities around the country.
- 2:58SPEAKER_05: And then a couple hours later, he announced that he was doing another thousand.
- 3:02SPEAKER_05: So he's essentially flying 2,000 tourists in.
- 3:05SPEAKER_05: And he said, Listen, I would love for you to stay at one of my properties, but that's not a requirement.
- 3:12SPEAKER_05: I just want people back here and get Vegas back up and running again.
- 3:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's just been such a great Vegas cheerleader uh for downtown and really Vegas as a whole, as you mentioned.
- 3:22SPEAKER_02: So, I mean, really kind gesture there.
- 3:24SPEAKER_02: What a great idea, great promotion too for Las Vegas.
- 3:28SPEAKER_02: So we hope you fly in and stay a while and then, you know, get back to whatever you're doing.
- 3:34SPEAKER_02: But come here, enjoy, relax, spend some money, gamble.
- 3:37SPEAKER_05: And tell your friends when you get back home and have them come out here too.
- 3:41SPEAKER_02: Yes, exactly.
- 3:43SPEAKER_02: Um, we did mention uh downtown casinos opening.
- 3:45SPEAKER_02: Now, Boyd Gaming owns a lot of casinos resorts here in Las Vegas, and they're opening nine of their casinos, and that includes if you've ever been here, uh they have a bunch off the strip, the Orleans, the Gold Coast, Suncoast, Aleante, Cannery, Samstown, and then also downtown, Fremont, the California, Joker's Wild, I'll plan to reopen as well.
- 4:06SPEAKER_02: Uh, they have a couple other ones that they're gonna have closed, stay closed for a little while and kind of see how that goes at first.
- 4:13SPEAKER_05: And Station Casinos is another uh big uh casino operating group.
- 4:19SPEAKER_05: They have they also have uh properties that are mainly off the strip, but Palace Station is the closest one to the Las Vegas Strip.
- 4:28SPEAKER_05: That's set to reopen along with uh Red Rock Resort, Green Valley Ranch, Santa Fe Station, Boulder Station, and Sunset Station.
- 4:37SPEAKER_05: Um, then they have some other um smaller wildfire properties also.
- 4:44SPEAKER_05: And um, so it's exciting.
- 4:46SPEAKER_05: Things are are getting back to getting back to business.
- 4:50SPEAKER_05: I was just gonna say, I I stopped myself from saying getting back to normal because it's not normal, but it's back to business.
- 4:57SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 4:57SPEAKER_02: And I think now the part is we're all gonna be wondering is is okay, how's it gonna do?
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: Is it gonna fill up?
- 5:05SPEAKER_02: Is it gonna, you know, is it gonna be packed?
- 5:07SPEAKER_02: Are people gonna come here?
- 5:09SPEAKER_02: Are we gonna see lines?
- 5:10SPEAKER_02: We don't know.
- 5:11SPEAKER_02: We don't know what to expect.
- 5:12SPEAKER_02: And so I'm really curious to see how this goes.
- 5:14SPEAKER_02: Somebody asked me, how do you do you think you know which casino will have the longest line?
- 5:18SPEAKER_02: I'm like, I have no idea how this is gonna go.
- 5:20SPEAKER_02: I just feel like I can't really predict it.
- 5:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I don't know.
- 5:23SPEAKER_05: I have a strange feeling that there is going to be a lot of tourist traffic coming through town.
- 5:31SPEAKER_05: I don't know why.
- 5:32SPEAKER_05: I have absolutely zero um fact to back that up.
- 5:38SPEAKER_05: I'd just like to point that out, but I just have a feeling that people are going to want to come back to Las Vegas.
- 5:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and then you know, May 29th is when phase two started.
- 5:49SPEAKER_02: So we have, you know, uh places of worship open, gyms, fitness studios, bars, taverns, tattoo parlors, movie theaters, bowling alleys, indoor malls, water parks, public pools, museums, art galleries.
- 6:01SPEAKER_02: So really phase two is a big one for Las Vegas.
- 6:05SPEAKER_02: So this is a big deal.
- 6:06SPEAKER_02: And, you know, it's gonna be all eyes on us seeing how this goes.
- 6:10SPEAKER_02: Obviously, a lot of those have restrictions.
- 6:12SPEAKER_02: Like you, the bar thing is you can't go up to the bar and order a drink.
- 6:15SPEAKER_02: However, you can sit at the bar and be socially distanced and order a drink.
- 6:20SPEAKER_02: But I think they want, you know, you you to order and then someone brings it to you.
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: They don't want people standing up at the bar, then they get close and bunched up.
- 6:27SPEAKER_02: So there's things like that.
- 6:28SPEAKER_05: Yeah, not not like normal when you have to like wedge yourself in between people and like do a contortion act to get one arm to the bar to order and pay.
- 6:37SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 6:38SPEAKER_02: Or bet your eyes.
- 6:39SPEAKER_02: That's what I do.
- 6:42SPEAKER_02: But yeah, I'm I'm happy to not stand in the bar.
- 6:45SPEAKER_02: Sounds great to me.
- 6:46SPEAKER_02: Um, but people keep asking, well, then what's not opening?
- 6:49SPEAKER_02: And and something that's not opening, Sean, is brothels.
- 6:52SPEAKER_02: Uh, because we have brothels in Nevada, not in Las Vegas, but in certain parts of Nevada, we have brothels.
- 6:59SPEAKER_05: So and and adult entertainment is also not opening.
- 7:03SPEAKER_05: But are stripper, I don't know if you know this, because I don't.
- 7:07SPEAKER_05: Are strippers and brothel workers, are they considered gig employees?
- 7:11SPEAKER_02: I don't think.
- 7:12SPEAKER_02: Can you get unemployment?
- 7:14SPEAKER_02: The P UI or whatever that is.
- 7:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm not sure.
- 7:16SPEAKER_02: I mean, I assume so.
- 7:17SPEAKER_02: If it's their, yeah, I would assume so.
- 7:20SPEAKER_05: I mean, it's a legal profession.
- 7:23SPEAKER_05: Strippers are people too, yeah.
- 7:25SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 7:26SPEAKER_02: And then uh, you know, nightclubs and day clubs, they aren't gonna open.
- 7:30SPEAKER_02: Uh live sport vent sporting venues with an audience not allowed to open either, which all makes sense.
- 7:35SPEAKER_02: And so I guess that would be the next phase.
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: We did get a question on Twitter from at J No Life, love his Twitter name.
- 7:44SPEAKER_02: Oh, it says Justin's travel in his bio.
- 7:47SPEAKER_02: So Justin.
- 7:47SPEAKER_02: Okay, and he and he wanted to know uh we think you have a life.
- 7:51SPEAKER_02: We don't think you have no life.
- 7:52SPEAKER_02: Uh he wanted to know when our guesses that phase three might happen.
- 7:56SPEAKER_02: And he realizes that it's hard to tell, but maybe just possibilities.
- 7:59SPEAKER_02: And I don't know.
- 8:00SPEAKER_02: A quick thought on that is when I look at like, you know, sporting events with audiences and stuff like that, I think it's gonna be a while.
- 8:06SPEAKER_02: I think maybe even through the fall.
- 8:09SPEAKER_05: Yeah, uh I'm I was gonna my guess would be, you know, October at the earliest.
- 8:17SPEAKER_05: Because when you think about it, like really the beginning of fall would be like September-ish.
- 8:23SPEAKER_05: And we're not far off from August.
- 8:26SPEAKER_05: And you know, I think the fall months are gonna come pretty quick, and it really depends what what happens here in the next uh several weeks and how how you know cases go and if there is that that second peak that that health experts have have warned about if we aren't careful.
- 8:47SPEAKER_02: Right, and you know, we're I it feels like summer out there.
- 8:51SPEAKER_02: What's it gonna be today for for all the listeners around the world?
- 8:54SPEAKER_05: How would you like yeah, it's 109 today here in Las Vegas, so summer's here, and out in uh Death Valley, just down the road, 120 degrees today.
- 9:05SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh, it's insane, isn't it?
- 9:08SPEAKER_02: I mean, oh with that, you know what it is?
- 9:10SPEAKER_02: It's that sun blaring down on top of the temperature.
- 9:14SPEAKER_02: It's just it's crazy when you're campy, especially by the pool or in air conditioning.
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: So super excited about the pool's opening.
- 9:21SPEAKER_02: Got a note from my building that our pool's opening tomorrow.
- 9:24SPEAKER_02: So I'm super excited about that.
- 9:25SPEAKER_02: I know a lot of people that live in apartment buildings in Las Vegas um are excited about that too because it's it's hot out there.
- 9:32SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it is.
- 9:33SPEAKER_05: And um, you know, as we uh are so excited about the things that are opening up, we also have have gotten news about um really the the center of our um performing art scene here in Las Vegas, the Smith Center, and getting news that that they're remaining closed indefinitely.
- 9:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, really sad news to hear that.
- 9:57SPEAKER_02: Um the the CEO Myron Martin uh has done some interviews with with different media saying that, you know, he just can't really tell when um performing arts will work again at this point.
- 10:10SPEAKER_02: I mean, the with the restrictions and the social, you know, having to be socially distant and how do you fill a theater and it's just it's just not gonna work right now.
- 10:17SPEAKER_02: So they're basically just not giving a date for when they even think they could open.
- 10:22SPEAKER_02: But they have started this campaign on their website.
- 10:24SPEAKER_02: Um, and the thing is is, you know, when the Smith Center opened, Sean, you were here, I was here, and everyone thought, oh, it's never gonna work in Las Vegas, you know, they've got the strip and they got shows and they got downtown.
- 10:34SPEAKER_02: Nobody's gonna want to go to a performing arts center and watch a Broadway show or watch live music or watch a ballet or the philharmonic, and it's thrived.
- 10:41SPEAKER_02: People love it.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: So many people I know have season tickets, and it's been great for our community.
- 10:45SPEAKER_05: Well, and it's just such a classy place to go to, like all art deco style.
- 10:51SPEAKER_05: And every time I go there to see a show, you know, it's it's like a it feels like a special event, doesn't it?
- 10:58SPEAKER_02: It does.
- 10:58SPEAKER_02: Little glass of wine.
- 11:00SPEAKER_02: You walk slowly.
- 11:02SPEAKER_05: I have my reusable cups.
- 11:04SPEAKER_02: I do.
- 11:05SPEAKER_02: I have a lot of those as well.
- 11:06SPEAKER_02: It's a great place.
- 11:07SPEAKER_02: If you go to the SmithCenter.com, they do have a uh a page on their website, all these different kinds of ways people can can take part in donating.
- 11:17SPEAKER_02: Like, for example, if you had season tickets or you had tickets to a show, you can still donate that.
- 11:22SPEAKER_02: So instead of getting your money back, you can donate that.
- 11:24SPEAKER_02: There's membership opportunities, um, there's uh also ways that you can take part in some planned giving.
- 11:32SPEAKER_02: And I think they're doing some online stuff too in the cabaret jazz theater.
- 11:36SPEAKER_02: And so you can dedicate, uh, they have a dedication program that allows you to dedicate a performance in the Reynolds Hall or Myron's Cabaret Jazz and celebrate a special occasion in your life.
- 11:46SPEAKER_02: So all sorts of different ways.
- 11:47SPEAKER_02: So we hope that people will donate and we hope that the Smith Center will reopen sooner than later.
- 11:52SPEAKER_05: Yeah, because that is a nonprofit and it does uh rely on member support and sponsors and um, you know, grants uh for the arts as well.
- 12:03SPEAKER_05: Um but getting back to the whole topic of sports, um Las Vegas is in the running right now to kind of potentially be the hub for uh an HL play when the Stanley Cup playoffs resume.
- 12:23SPEAKER_05: I guess they'll begin.
- 12:24SPEAKER_05: They're they're not resuming.
- 12:25SPEAKER_05: Hockey's resuming, the playoffs will just start.
- 12:28SPEAKER_02: It's super exciting for the Vegas Golden Knights.
- 12:31SPEAKER_02: Uh, our whole town.
- 12:32SPEAKER_02: I saw on Twitter that everyone was like, it's so great to be talking about hockey again.
- 12:35SPEAKER_02: I haven't seen this in a while.
- 12:37SPEAKER_02: Um, but we're in we're in there and we're gonna be playing um we Pacific Division Champs is that Pacific Division Champs, yep.
- 12:45SPEAKER_02: Yes, Pacific Division Champs.
- 12:47SPEAKER_02: Um, we love it.
- 12:48SPEAKER_02: We plan on going all the way to the end.
- 12:50SPEAKER_02: Come on, let's get the Stanley Cup.
- 12:52SPEAKER_02: Uh, the only thing is they listed off a bunch of cities that they're considering for a hub city.
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: I think we would be great as well.
- 12:58SPEAKER_02: And then I saw some discussion after folks saying, well, they might not want any of the teams that are in there to have like home ice advantage.
- 13:09SPEAKER_02: So then that would be bad for us because then maybe they'd pick a city with a team that wasn't in it.
- 13:14SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but see, I don't know if I necessarily agree with that because home ice advantage, like when when you're playing in a game like that, or in a in you know, a series of games like that, part of the home ice advantage is having all of your fans there and feeding off the energy that the fans, your hometown fans, give you.
- 13:38SPEAKER_05: There's not going to be any fans allowed at these games.
- 13:41SPEAKER_05: So I mean, at this point, an ice rink is an ice rink, isn't it?
- 13:46SPEAKER_05: Does the actual arena make any difference at all?
- 13:49SPEAKER_02: I don't think so.
- 13:50SPEAKER_02: I guess the only difference would would be what they get to sleep in their own bed.
- 13:54SPEAKER_05: I guess.
- 13:54SPEAKER_05: Or if you want to even the playing field, you know, make sure that that all the teams have to stay in a hotel.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's true.
- 14:05SPEAKER_02: I mean, because you know, the ice is the same, right?
- 14:09SPEAKER_02: The measurements, the length, all that.
- 14:11SPEAKER_02: This is such a girly perspective.
- 14:14SPEAKER_02: I don't know if I'm saying it right.
- 14:17SPEAKER_05: No, but I mean, yeah, the the actual rink itself, the ice and the board, like all that's regulation.
- 14:24SPEAKER_05: So I mean, I don't see how uh uh, you know, technically having home ice advantage would give you any sort of advantage at this point.
- 14:36SPEAKER_02: But I mean, I mean, I'm excited that we're gonna be able to watch these probably on TV, right?
- 14:40SPEAKER_02: I assume and just be able to cheer for something and oh, it's just gonna, it just feels like life is coming back.
- 14:45SPEAKER_02: So it's exciting.
- 14:47SPEAKER_02: So I hope we are the hub city, you know.
- 14:49SPEAKER_02: If we aren't, we'll still be watching and go nights go and Vegas born and all that.
- 14:54SPEAKER_02: Have we I don't think how many years has it been?
- 14:56SPEAKER_02: Three seasons?
- 14:57SPEAKER_05: I don't think we've never not made the third consecutive year making the playoffs.
- 15:03SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 15:03SPEAKER_02: I love all of it.
- 15:04SPEAKER_02: It is so great.
- 15:06SPEAKER_02: Um, so yeah, we're we're excited about all these developments happening in Las Vegas.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: We're getting back to normal.
- 15:10SPEAKER_02: Obviously, we're gonna have to monitor the situation and and see how things go.
- 15:14SPEAKER_02: We're gonna keep you posted, of course, on all of that.
- 15:17SPEAKER_02: Um, but coming up next, we're gonna talk um workers in Las Vegas.
- 15:21SPEAKER_02: How do they feel about the way that they were treated during the shutdown?
- 15:25SPEAKER_02: We hear a lot about guests and visitors, but how about the workers here?
- 15:27SPEAKER_02: Well, there was an online hospitality survey done, hundreds of people answered, and we have the results coming up next.
- 15:38SPEAKER_05: Thanks so much for listening to Vegas Revealed.
- 15:40SPEAKER_05: And if you like us, go ahead and give us a review.
- 15:43SPEAKER_05: We'd really appreciate that.
- 15:45SPEAKER_05: Since we are somewhat new, it always helps to keep our visibility up.
- 15:49SPEAKER_05: And we also love hearing from all of our listeners from across the U.S.
- 15:54SPEAKER_05: and around the world.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you can always find video interviews, content at vegasrevealed.com.
- 16:01SPEAKER_02: We also have a YouTube page, an Instagram, a Twitter, a Facebook.
- 16:05SPEAKER_02: Follow us on all of it.
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: We try and post different things on all of them.
- 16:08SPEAKER_02: It's really everything Las Vegas.
- 16:10SPEAKER_05: And if you have an idea or a question for us, you can email us at ideas at vegas-revealed.com.
- 16:20SPEAKER_02: Welcome back.
- 16:21SPEAKER_02: You know, we as we anticipate the opening of our resorts and casinos, uh, one thing that we often talk about are the visitors, the guests.
- 16:29SPEAKER_02: But recently an online survey was done and it reveals Las Vegas' hospitality in gaming employee sediments when it comes to this entire shutdown and how they were treated.
- 16:40SPEAKER_02: Really interesting results came out of this, Sean.
- 16:42SPEAKER_05: Yeah, there were uh hundreds of people who work on the Las Vegas strip who responded in this survey.
- 16:50SPEAKER_05: The numbers really are uh breathtaking and not necessarily in a positive way.
- 16:56SPEAKER_05: Our two guests today coordinated this survey.
- 17:00SPEAKER_05: Uh, Greg Chase is founder and CEO of Experienced Strategy Associates, and Lillian Tomovich is former Chief Experience and Marketing Officer with MGM Resorts International.
- 17:11SPEAKER_05: Great to have you both.
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: Great to be here.
- 17:14SPEAKER_05: Thanks for having us.
- 17:15SPEAKER_05: So you both have have uh kind of you put out a survey where you you reached out directly to uh employees to feel um well you explain it.
- 17:28SPEAKER_05: What what is the crux of of the survey that you've just put out?
- 17:33SPEAKER_04: You know, I think there's been a lot of discussion around what reopening looks like from the customer viewpoint, what social distancing standards look like, what you know, health and safety standards look like, and the challenges, you know, that's all important, that's all critical to reopening, but the one conversation, you know, as Lily and I were talking through, you know, making observations, you know, we read every brand and company's reopening strategy.
- 17:57SPEAKER_04: You know, there's a lot of similarities in those, but the one thing that continued to be missing from the conversation was an employee and how they're feeling and how they're doing, because we know there's such a strong correlation to the customer experience.
- 18:09SPEAKER_04: And Lily, I don't know if you want to opine on that.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: No, absolutely.
- 18:13SPEAKER_00: I mean, I think you know, Vegas is, you know, we're the experience, you know, capital of the world, if you will.
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: And so we know that the experiences are really delivered through the employees.
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: And so making sure that they feel engaged and valued and are excited and ready to deliver that wow experience is critical to the success and reopening of Las Vegas.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: And so Greg and I just wanted to sort of put a fine point and really understand how they are feeling and what can we do to sort of close that gap if there is a gap in terms of the sentiment and excitement that they currently have, or some of them are fearful to even come back.
- 18:47SPEAKER_00: And so really trying to unravel that and unpack that a bit to understand um how they're feeling about all of this moving back into uh opening stage.
- 18:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, let's talk about that.
- 18:57SPEAKER_02: Let's talk about first of all the response that you did get and also some of the numbers.
- 19:02SPEAKER_02: I I know for me, uh exactly what you're saying.
- 19:05SPEAKER_02: I have some friends that work for um casino companies and resorts that have felt a little bit like, gosh, I don't really like the way I've been treated.
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: I might even look outside and look for a new job myself.
- 19:15SPEAKER_02: Others have been like, I feel so blessed because the company that I work for has treated me so well.
- 19:21SPEAKER_02: So, what is the overall sentiment that you guys got from the survey?
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: Greg, do you want to dig into something?
- 19:28SPEAKER_04: Sure.
- 19:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, I think the the high-level story here is there's there's opportunity.
- 19:33SPEAKER_04: Um, there's a lot of opportunity.
- 19:34SPEAKER_04: And when you think about the hospitality and gaming industry being a very people-focused experience, right?
- 19:40SPEAKER_04: Where the employees are out there creating personal experiences for people.
- 19:44SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, it we need to treat our team members, our employees, the exact same way.
- 19:50SPEAKER_04: When they're out there providing a you know, personal touch for people.
- 19:53SPEAKER_04: If we're not doing that as an employer or as in an organization, frankly, you know, we're missing the ball and actually, you know preaching what we uh we provide to our customers.
- 20:02SPEAKER_04: So uh I think you know, high level, there is a lot of opportunity, no matter what organization, because we did get a good spread of uh responses across all gaming and hospitality companies here in Las Vegas.
- 20:13SPEAKER_04: Um and I think the one very consistent theme was uh, you know, if an employer or an employee didn't feel as if they're community or were communicated to um, you know, effectively, consistently, you know, even if there wasn't an update, frankly, you know, they felt a level of disconnect with their employer.
- 20:29SPEAKER_04: And that was pretty consistent across the board.
- 20:31SPEAKER_04: Um, what was it, Lily?
- 20:33SPEAKER_04: Like 32% of employees actually felt that they uh their employer cared about them through COVID.
- 20:39SPEAKER_04: And frankly, when you look at that number, that's scary and it's heartbreaking, frankly.
- 20:44SPEAKER_04: You know, these are our neighbors, these are our family members, these are our friends, and they don't feel that the one sense of security that they have cares about them through a really tough time.
- 20:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean that's hard.
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: The flip side of that stat is, you know, about 70% of the hospitality employees in Las Vegas, you know, basically disagreed with the statement, my employer cares about me, or they had a neutral feeling.
- 21:07SPEAKER_00: So 70% of the people aren't feeling great towards uh their employer today.
- 21:13SPEAKER_00: 70%.
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: So that is a huge number, and as Greg said, just a phenomenal opportunity.
- 21:18SPEAKER_00: Um, I guess what I would say to the hospitality industry is we put so much focus on making sure that that guest experience is going to be phenomenal.
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: Now is the time that we need to put just as much focus and energy behind the employees and how they re-engage back into the workforce.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: So, you know, you know, the rallying cry would be spend as much time as you can with your employee base as you are and will be with your with your guests.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: I think it's critically important, as Greg and I always say, you know, happy employees, happy guests.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: And, you know, it sounds trite, but it is so absolutely, absolutely true.
- 21:54SPEAKER_00: We've seen that time and time again.
- 21:57SPEAKER_05: And you know, as Dana and I have have had conversations.
- 22:00SPEAKER_05: Conversations throughout this COVID-19 crisis.
- 22:04SPEAKER_05: And as we slowly emerge from it, one of the areas that we focused on was the restaurant industry and how up until this point, the innovation has been on the food side, the culinary side of the industry.
- 22:21SPEAKER_05: But now, as these establishments are opening back up, the innovation is having to shift to the operational side of things.
- 22:29SPEAKER_05: Do you think that that same principle, Lily, applies to casino operators too, that they just take need to take a new approach to operating and to employ relations?
- 22:42SPEAKER_00: I think absolutely.
- 22:44SPEAKER_00: I think there's no question.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: You know, this kind of situation that we're in, I won't say unprecedented because I think it's overused, but I think out of these situations, a lot of innovation does come.
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: It comes a lot more quickly than it traditionally would.
- 23:00SPEAKER_00: I know in speaking to my friends and colleagues in the business and outside of the hospitality business.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: And one thing that they've all said is the sense of community camaraderie and agility of the organization to quickly pivot and to your point, really think operationally how we should be doing things better to serve our guests, make it easier for them to place an order or what have you, has really it's really unleashed the power of that sort of idea of innovation and how can we do things better and easier for our guests and really help drive sustainability of the business for the future.
- 23:33SPEAKER_00: So I think that's been an unintended consequence of this situation is businesses are really realizing, wow, we can do things different and we can do them better and faster.
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: So something that may have taken six months to figure out, people are taking just a few weeks.
- 23:47SPEAKER_00: Greg, you've spent quite a bit of time in the restaurant uh food and beverage part of the business.
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: Would you have any thoughts to add to that?
- 23:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, I just say I think you're right that you know the restaurant industry has not really evolved or innovated or done anything differently over, you know, several decades.
- 24:04SPEAKER_04: And frankly, one could say that the gaming industry is very similar as well.
- 24:07SPEAKER_04: I mean, the business model and frankly the experience has not changed in several years.
- 24:13SPEAKER_04: Uh, so now is the time that, you know, whether you're ready for it or not, I think every organization is having to go through a bit of a digital transformation, and there's no more waiting five years to map out a digital transformation strategy.
- 24:25SPEAKER_04: You're in it and you've got to figure it out now.
- 24:27SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, looking at the contactless experiences, uh, you know, the social distancing guidelines have certainly threw some curveballs into what it looks like on the gaming floors and restaurants.
- 24:38SPEAKER_04: Um but I think what's what's happening now is forced disruption of legacy industries.
- 24:44SPEAKER_04: Um, Lily and I were actually talking about retail being uh an industry that frankly is going to get disrupted through all this as well.
- 24:51SPEAKER_04: Um what that looks like eventually, you know, we'll we'll only see.
- 24:54SPEAKER_04: But you know, everyone's forced to uh to think outside the box right now.
- 24:58SPEAKER_02: When I think about opening, I think about you know, it's a look for a lot of these uh properties, it's almost like a grand reopening.
- 25:05SPEAKER_02: And the first impression is gonna be everything.
- 25:06SPEAKER_02: And like Lily mentioned, you know, um, you know, happy employee, happy guest.
- 25:11SPEAKER_02: And and if the employees don't return happy, this is gonna be the impression that those guests are gonna get.
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: And will they return or not?
- 25:18SPEAKER_02: And I think a lot about how we're really gonna suffer with the lack of conventions that are gonna come here for a while.
- 25:24SPEAKER_02: It's going to be a while.
- 25:25SPEAKER_02: And a lot of times those folks that come in, I don't want to say they're on a free paid trip, but a lot of times they're companies paying for it and things like that.
- 25:32SPEAKER_02: But the people and the visitors that we're gonna have now are paying customers and they're using their hard-earned money.
- 25:37SPEAKER_02: So I feel like um in you doing this survey is interesting because this first impression from all the employees that work in these resorts is gonna be everything.
- 25:47SPEAKER_04: Completely.
- 25:47SPEAKER_04: You know, the the one the one parallel that uh Lily and I have talked about a little bit is, you know, when you think about crises and, you know, big disruption moments like this, you know, the last big crisis or, you know, disruption that we had, frankly, in Las Vegas was October 1st.
- 26:05SPEAKER_04: What's really interesting about this whole COVID-19 experience, there's a lot of correlations or similarities into how we had to handle October 1st and how this is playing out, you know.
- 26:16SPEAKER_04: Uh, and I think we're gonna see a lot of similarity in, you know, when it does time come time to reopen.
- 26:21SPEAKER_04: Yes, first impression is critical.
- 26:22SPEAKER_04: Um, but I think we're gonna see a lot of the same themes that we did with uh guests caring about how the employees were treated.
- 26:28SPEAKER_04: Um, they're gonna ask them how they were treated through this when they see their favorite bartender back at the bar, they see their favorite crap stealer at the table.
- 26:36SPEAKER_04: They're gonna say, you know, how how did you manage through COVID?
- 26:38SPEAKER_04: And I think employees will be brutally honest with their customer base if they weren't treated well.
- 26:45SPEAKER_05: A couple more of the surprising findings that um you have in the survey 68% of employees do not feel that their employer had transparently communicated with them through this crisis, and only 43% of employees feel that their employer is ready to welcome guests back into their property.
- 27:07SPEAKER_05: Do when we're going off of so many uh guidelines that are government mandated from the CDC and we look at those kind of as the gold standard of what to operate from.
- 27:20SPEAKER_05: Do you think that somewhere in this process the employee buy-in was lost and employee input is lost?
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:32SPEAKER_00: It's it's a great, great question, Sean.
- 27:35SPEAKER_00: Um, one of the things we do know, you know, across the board here is that communication is critical to the entire employee experience.
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: And so one of the things that we haven't talked about is we have a lot of verbatims and a lot of detail that people provided in the survey and the open-ended questions.
- 27:52SPEAKER_00: And one common theme that kept popping up was this notion of they're finding out more about their particular business or situation through social media as opposed directly from their company.
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: And so there was a lot of people saying, I don't want to read about this on Twitter, I don't want to read about it on Facebook, I really wish I could hear it directly.
- 28:11SPEAKER_00: And for some of them, it was embarrassing because they're saying, Look, I work for this company and I'm hearing about this information, or friends are calling me saying, Is this true?
- 28:19SPEAKER_00: And all I can say is, I don't know, I haven't heard, but I do see it on Twitter, for example.
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: So this notion of letting your employees in first before the press picks up on maybe yourself and health and safety standards is important.
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: So the employees uh a sense of frustration for sure.
- 28:38SPEAKER_00: And I think what's challenging here is I do think the operators up and down the strip have done a phenomenal job of putting together standards around health and safety, but I just don't think that it was communicated thoroughly enough to the employee base for them to then be able to be great brand ambassadors and saying it's gonna be a great experience.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be safe for me to go to work and it's gonna be safe for our guests to go to work.
- 29:02SPEAKER_00: And so that's where I think really, as I said, I think all the operators have done a great job.
- 29:07SPEAKER_00: Greg and I have combed through all of the standards, very thorough, fantastic.
- 29:12SPEAKER_00: But I don't think that I think there was a communication gap.
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: And that of course leads to um some of the things that we're seeing in the survey results, feeling like, you know, they're not cared for, they're not communicated to, there's a lack of sort of appreciation and loyalty.
- 29:27SPEAKER_02: Well, when you do hear, it's true.
- 29:28SPEAKER_02: When you look around on things like Twitter, you hear people um talking about um properties that, you know, uh handful or actually hundreds uh were told by voicemail that they were laid off.
- 29:39SPEAKER_02: And it there's that, you know, the lack of personal contact.
- 29:43SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's it's really important in a situation to be more personal when it's such a sensitive subject, don't you think?
- 29:51SPEAKER_00: Oh, I agree a hundred percent.
- 29:53SPEAKER_00: And of course, I don't want to put myself in the shoes of that operator because I'm sure there were circumstances why that had to be the case.
- 29:59SPEAKER_00: Maybe they didn't have any other means of contacting those individuals.
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: But of course, you know the more personal touch is definitely uh warranted uh in this type of situation when possible.
- 30:11SPEAKER_00: Everybody wants to have an opportunity to have either a face-to-face or at least a live conversation.
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: And so um as much as that can be done, that is of course um the number one choice and approach.
- 30:23SPEAKER_05: And and Greg, looking at the survey results, where do we go from here?
- 30:28SPEAKER_05: I mean, have casino operators cooked their cooked their own gooses, or is there a chance for these companies to redeem themselves and and gain back the the trust and loyalty of the of their employees?
- 30:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think that's a great point.
- 30:44SPEAKER_04: You know, I I think the one of the takeaways that we wanted to share, and I think the timing of the release of this information is is frankly perfect.
- 30:52SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, as we're almost what a week away now from reopening a lot of our hospitality and and gaming organizations and and buildings and experiences.
- 31:03SPEAKER_04: Um there's plenty of time now to make sure that if you may or you feel like you may have had a gap in communication experience, you know, make sure now that the welcome back for the employee is a moment, right?
- 31:18SPEAKER_04: It is an experience.
- 31:20SPEAKER_04: Um it's memorable, right?
- 31:23SPEAKER_04: We we've all been, you know, listening to the headlines, the news stories.
- 31:26SPEAKER_04: A lot of us have been impacted personally by what's been going on.
- 31:29SPEAKER_04: Uh, I think now's just the right time as we're a week away from you know bringing everyone back into or slowly starting to ramp up, you know, make it an experience now.
- 31:38SPEAKER_04: I think that's the the great takeaway here is yeah, these numbers are not the best, but there's still time to be able to do something well and to really make sure we do this right.
- 31:49SPEAKER_02: Well, and you think about situation like unemployment where people were, you know, the governor's even saying we just weren't ready to handle, we didn't uh expect this.
- 31:58SPEAKER_02: I mean, do you feel like now maybe um corporations will sit down and go, okay, if this were to ever happen again, how are we going to handle this differently?
- 32:06SPEAKER_02: And maybe that's the the point of this survey.
- 32:08SPEAKER_02: So they they learn from it.
- 32:11SPEAKER_00: I think that's a great point.
- 32:12SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 32:13SPEAKER_00: I mean, every time you sort of go through one of these major, in this case, significant events in industry, it certainly is a learning experience.
- 32:22SPEAKER_00: And without question, people will kind of rewrite history and say, what could we have done better?
- 32:27SPEAKER_00: And um, in reality, I think, as I said, I think all of the operators up and down the strip um are doing the best that they can given the circumstances.
- 32:38SPEAKER_00: But there is just there's gaps and opportunities that you know they'll be able to kind of lean into now, hopefully, with some of this data and awareness and kind of close that gap and so that we can really deliver against uh the employee experience.
- 32:51SPEAKER_00: But for sure, there'll be, as I said, the history books will be written and there'll be some uh some good learning there.
- 32:57SPEAKER_05: And outside of um the the survey results, I'm I'm interested in uh hearing from both of you on this.
- 33:06SPEAKER_05: Do you think that that Vegas bounces back from this?
- 33:11SPEAKER_05: Do you think that Vegas remains um the destination that it's it's become known to be?
- 33:19SPEAKER_05: Greg, I'll start with you.
- 33:22SPEAKER_04: Uh yeah, I I actually my my prediction is I think once all this settles down, uh, I think Vegas is the opportunity to come back stronger than it's ever been.
- 33:31SPEAKER_04: Uh and my my rationale behind that is, you know, you see the images of people not, they can't wait to get back onto the beach.
- 33:39SPEAKER_04: They can't wait to go surf, they can't wait to get back into their life.
- 33:43SPEAKER_04: Uh in Vegas, you know, I've always compared Vegas to Disney.
- 33:46SPEAKER_04: I spent, you know, five years at Disney World in Orlando.
- 33:48SPEAKER_04: I spent almost 10 years now in Vegas.
- 33:50SPEAKER_04: And I'll tell you, these two places are where people go to leave their reality and be somebody else and feel special for a period of time.
- 33:58SPEAKER_04: Uh, and I don't think anyone will ever be able to take away, you know, if Vegas was their magical place, their happy place, they're going to go back, just as the family is going to go back to Disney, because that's where they they can just clear their heads and get out of their current reality.
- 34:13SPEAKER_04: Uh, so I think we have the opportunity to come back stronger than we've ever been.
- 34:16SPEAKER_04: Uh people need it.
- 34:17SPEAKER_04: They need the escape.
- 34:18SPEAKER_05: Lily.
- 34:19SPEAKER_00: I totally agree.
- 34:20SPEAKER_00: I mean, I listen, I think, um, and I'm relatively new to Las Vegas.
- 34:24SPEAKER_00: I've only been here about six years, but Vegas has always been the entertainment capital of the world, and I think it will continue to be.
- 34:30SPEAKER_00: I mean, what's transpired even in the five, six years that I have been here from a sports perspective, live entertainment perspective, is just phenomenal.
- 34:38SPEAKER_00: So, no question it's gonna come back.
- 34:40SPEAKER_00: Is it gonna take some time?
- 34:41SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 34:42SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, I think I think the opening will be very successful.
- 34:46SPEAKER_00: I think to get to where we were in 2019 is gonna take a little bit of time.
- 34:50SPEAKER_00: And um I think the convention sector uh will be a little bit slower to bounce back for obvious reasons.
- 34:57SPEAKER_00: Um, but you know, the the the power of you know engagement face to face for most big corporations will never go away.
- 35:05SPEAKER_00: And so I know convention will come back.
- 35:07SPEAKER_00: It'll be just I think a little bit slower.
- 35:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 35:11SPEAKER_02: And listen, we appreciate both of you talking to us today.
- 35:14SPEAKER_02: Where can people go?
- 35:15SPEAKER_02: Because we have a lot of listeners really from all over the world that have interest in this.
- 35:18SPEAKER_02: Where can they go to read, you know, the ins and outs and see the numbers of this survey?
- 35:23SPEAKER_04: So we've got the um we've got our infographic and we've got our data points on our Experience Strategy Associates website, uh, experienced strategyassociates.com.
- 35:31SPEAKER_04: Uh there's an employee survey tab.
- 35:33SPEAKER_04: That's where we've put uh the data that we're we're able to share with everyone through this.
- 35:37SPEAKER_04: Uh, but it is Lily and I, I think you know, either of us are more than willing to chat with anybody uh regarding some of the takeaways and some of the learnings.
- 35:45SPEAKER_04: And if there's organizations that are looking for just a little bit of a, you know, what else can we be doing, you know, we would love to help uh give back to our colleagues and our industry and help bring it back as best as we can.
- 35:56SPEAKER_05: Lily, Greg, thank you both so much for your for your uh expertise and your your insights as uh Las Vegas navigates uh these uncharted territories.
- 36:07SPEAKER_02: Stay with us on Vegas Revealed coming up.
- 36:10SPEAKER_02: It's Dana and Sean's Secret Tips.
- 36:15SPEAKER_02: It's time for Dana and John's secret tips.
- 36:18SPEAKER_02: And we are really excited that Vegas is open partially because now we can kind of resume to our normal tips.
- 36:27SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I know.
- 36:28SPEAKER_05: I I kind of missed it, didn't you?
- 36:30SPEAKER_05: I mean, quarantine tips are great, but getting back to like the Vegas stuff, that's fun.
- 36:37SPEAKER_02: I know it is fun.
- 36:38SPEAKER_02: And you know, it's gonna be some things we're gonna have to relearn because there's a lot of changes to the Las Vegas strip, but but something we wanted to basically let people know if you're gonna visit, if you're gonna drive in from LA or Arizona, don't forget free parking is back.
- 36:52SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 36:53SPEAKER_02: Now we don't know for how long, but yeah, free parking is back.
- 36:56SPEAKER_02: So real reminder there, a good tip to keep in mind that, you know, maybe instead of taking a flight, um, you know, not wanting to get on a plane with a bunch of people, maybe you just want to take a nice drive from LA, Utah, wherever, Southern California, Arizona, and drive in.
- 37:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Arizona.
- 37:12SPEAKER_02: Drive in, park for free.
- 37:14SPEAKER_02: Also, something we're noticing is, and I think everyone's kind of used to this at this point, but it can be a little bit of an adjustment.
- 37:20SPEAKER_02: You know, walk-ins aren't really uh as popular as they used to be.
- 37:23SPEAKER_02: Reservations are really everything, so that they can plan the 50% occupancy and the social distancing.
- 37:30SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's really gonna be those reservations are really gonna be key now because um, like you said, uh restaurants can't pack people.
- 37:40SPEAKER_05: Not that they were like super packing people in like sardines, but they can't have the occupancy rates that that they had before.
- 37:48SPEAKER_05: And so uh snagging yourself a reservation is definitely um something to keep in mind.
- 37:55SPEAKER_02: We don't want to see you get all dialed up after a day at the pool, walk down to to eat at a restaurant and you're not allowed in.
- 38:02SPEAKER_05: Then it's in-room dining for you.
- 38:04SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 38:05SPEAKER_02: Um, and a quick reminder, we already touched on this.
- 38:08SPEAKER_02: Hey, today it's 109 and we're in May.
- 38:10SPEAKER_02: So just a reminder for visitors, it is hot.
- 38:13SPEAKER_02: So even though it's a dry heat, as everyone says, you gotta drink plenty of water if you're gonna walk the strip.
- 38:20SPEAKER_02: I know a lot of you are, and we have a lot of people that love to look around, mingle, all that kind of thing.
- 38:24SPEAKER_02: You gotta bring water, you gotta drink a lot of water.
- 38:27SPEAKER_02: I don't care if you're not thirsty, you are, because I have seen people faint in front of me that have moved to Las Vegas and aren't used to it.
- 38:35SPEAKER_02: They just think, oh, it's no big deal.
- 38:36SPEAKER_02: I'm not that thirsty.
- 38:37SPEAKER_02: No, you gotta drink water.
- 38:38SPEAKER_05: You you really do.
- 38:40SPEAKER_05: And yeah, once it gets above a hundred, I that's usually my threshold.
- 38:45SPEAKER_05: When it gets above a hundred, that's when it starts to feel really hot.
- 38:50SPEAKER_05: Like up until then it's warm, but it gets hot when it gets up to 105, 109, 110.
- 38:58SPEAKER_05: That's just that's scorching.
- 39:00SPEAKER_05: So yeah.
- 39:01SPEAKER_02: It gets hot at the pool, even like when you're at the pool and you get out of the pool, you're hot in like three minutes.
- 39:06SPEAKER_05: It does.
- 39:07SPEAKER_05: It's a weird sensation though, because as soon as you get out, like all the evaporation of the water, you get super cold, but then like within a 90 seconds, you're hot again.
- 39:18SPEAKER_02: I know it's so weird.
- 39:19SPEAKER_02: It is it is different.
- 39:21SPEAKER_02: Um, just wanted to uh talk a little bit about um some tips from just kind of eating out.
- 39:25SPEAKER_02: Um, we've had a lot of restaurants that have been open off the strip for a couple weeks now.
- 39:30SPEAKER_02: Um, I have ventured out three or four times for patio dining.
- 39:34SPEAKER_02: And then Sean, I know you ate out at a local casino that had a restaurant open just this week.
- 39:41SPEAKER_02: How was your experience?
- 39:42SPEAKER_02: Any tips?
- 39:44SPEAKER_05: Um, so I went on, so this was out at Green Valley Ranch, which is over in uh Henderson, so it's off the strip, but it's still a casino property.
- 39:55SPEAKER_05: And we did have to go into the casino in order to get to the entrance of the restaurant.
- 40:01SPEAKER_05: We ate out on the patio, but um, we did have to go through the casino.
- 40:06SPEAKER_05: And I I have to say, um kudos to station casinos for uh having such a welcoming environment to bring people back because as soon as we uh got up to the sidewalk outside of the casino, there were security guards there who were directing us.
- 40:25SPEAKER_05: Um, everybody said welcome back, first of all.
- 40:28SPEAKER_05: And uh they were directing us to which door um was being used as an entrance.
- 40:34SPEAKER_05: There were then uh staff members who had uh sanitizing rags and spray bottles to wipe down door handles.
- 40:44SPEAKER_05: All the doors were opened for you so you didn't touch anything.
- 40:48SPEAKER_05: Once you got inside, um this is this is where my tip comes in, and it's going to be to add extra time whenever you're going anywhere that involves a casino and probably even travel too.
- 41:02SPEAKER_05: Because once you get inside, they are taking people's temperatures.
- 41:06SPEAKER_05: Um and it's not they're not using like a thermometer that goes under your tongue or they're not touching you or anything.
- 41:12SPEAKER_05: You stand on this dot and um there's like this, I don't know, this box that sits across from you and like takes your temperature from a distance.
- 41:23SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 41:24SPEAKER_02: And then they So tell us what was your temperature?
- 41:27SPEAKER_05: He didn't tell me what he didn't tell me what my temperature was, and I I was actually kind of curious, but I was just so excited to be there and get in that I didn't ask.
- 41:36SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 41:36SPEAKER_05: I passed the test.
- 41:38SPEAKER_05: All right, so finish.
- 41:39SPEAKER_01: So you stood on a you stood on a dot, there was a box, and then what it like beamed you?
- 41:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I guess it it beamed that it wasn't a beam that I could see, but I guess it like shot a beam at me and took my temperature, and the guy said, All right, you're good.
- 41:52SPEAKER_05: Enjoy your enjoy your meal.
- 41:54SPEAKER_05: Oh my gosh.
- 41:56SPEAKER_05: But yeah, and then once inside the casino, um, it was or inside the the restaurant, you know, all the workers were wearing gloves and masks and everything was was good there.
- 42:08SPEAKER_05: And what I really liked is that they put this plastic um plastic almost a little puck on your table that had a QR code on it.
- 42:18SPEAKER_05: You just open up the camera on your phone and scan that QR code and it brings up the menu right on your phone.
- 42:25SPEAKER_05: So there's no touching menus.
- 42:27SPEAKER_05: I thought that was I thought that was a cool innovation that um can probably actually save money on printing costs.
- 42:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, I think it's a great idea because I went to a restaurant in the same thing, it was off the strip, but I thought, oh, I'm gonna have to have this QR code app or something.
- 42:44SPEAKER_02: But no, you just take it literally, put your phone over it in the picture mode, and it opens up Safari and the menu comes up.
- 42:49SPEAKER_02: So you don't need to be prepared with anything special.
- 42:52SPEAKER_02: So great, great idea.
- 42:54SPEAKER_02: Um, and then when you were mentioning the temperature thing, you know, wanted to mention to folks that are gonna be visiting hotel casinos, like you said, you know, that's gonna be the way it is.
- 43:03SPEAKER_02: And I know that they had they um they had a meeting where so everyone's like, well, what if you fly here and then all of a sudden you have a temperature?
- 43:11SPEAKER_02: Like, what do you do?
- 43:12SPEAKER_02: But I guess we planned uh we I think UMC's one of our main hospitals uh has been working with uh you know the the board of people that is planning that are planning this, and um they have I guess hotels that are non-gaming.
- 43:28SPEAKER_02: We have a couple hotels that have committed to being kind of the place that they'll send those people.
- 43:32SPEAKER_05: Like the quarantine.
- 43:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the quarantine resort, right.
- 43:36SPEAKER_05: The quarantine resort.
- 43:38SPEAKER_05: They should just put up a new neon sign.
- 43:40SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 43:41SPEAKER_02: So they're gonna do something like that.
- 43:43SPEAKER_02: But anyway, be prepared for that procedure and don't come if you're feeling flushed.
- 43:47SPEAKER_05: Well, and part of the um part of the new safety and health procedures at I think just about every casino is that uh your temperature will be taken upon entry, and that's for everybody.
- 44:01SPEAKER_05: So um, yeah, just be prepared for that.
- 44:04SPEAKER_05: And and really, you're not gonna be able to hop around as quickly to different resorts on the strip as you used to be able to.
- 44:12SPEAKER_05: So just keep that in mind.
- 44:14SPEAKER_05: We are opening back up, but it's not gonna be the same.
- 44:18SPEAKER_05: Um hop a little here.
- 44:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 44:20SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 44:22SPEAKER_02: Less hopping.
- 44:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 44:24SPEAKER_02: Take it slow.
- 44:26SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 44:26SPEAKER_02: Well, listen, today's been a great discussion.
- 44:28SPEAKER_02: We uh I mean, there's been so much to talk about, and and like I know you you and I have said, like we're really excited to see how this goes because I'm hoping that it's super positive and that we have to open more and more resorts.
- 44:40SPEAKER_02: Obviously, I want everyone to be safe and healthy and and all that.
- 44:43SPEAKER_02: But if if things go in a in a positive direction, uh it's the first sign of maybe a little bit of a comeback and a little bit of a turnaround.
- 44:50SPEAKER_05: Yeah, fingers crossed, I hope so.
- 44:52SPEAKER_05: And uh if you are listening from out of town, we can't wait to have you back here in Las Vegas and let us know about your plans if you're uh headed this way and uh what you plan on doing while you're here, and then we'd love to hear some follow-up from you too.
