- 0:00Hey, it's Sarah. I'm really glad you decided to
- 0:03come back tonight. And as always, think of my voice
- 0:06as a Lantern in the dark, lighting up just the next few
- 0:09steps so you're not quite so alone.
- 0:12And I'm not here to fix anything, I'm just here to sit
- 0:14with you for a few minutes in whatever it is that you're
- 0:17carrying. So it's Saturday night, and
- 0:20there's something about Saturday nights, isn't there?
- 0:24The week's over. The noise quiets down, and in
- 0:27that quiet, sometimes something surfaces that was really easy to
- 0:31outrun when you were busy all week.
- 0:34And maybe it's surfacing right now.
- 0:37Maybe it's been surfacing for a while now, and maybe you've been
- 0:41carrying it longer than you want to admit.
- 0:45And I'm wondering if you had a picture of your life, and you
- 0:48don't have to name it out loud. You know what?
- 0:50It was the relationship that was supposed to work, or the version
- 0:54of yourself you were supposed to have become by now.
- 0:58The feeling that solid, settled, finally feeling that was
- 1:02supposed to be here already. But it isn't.
- 1:07And maybe somewhere along the way, maybe slowly, maybe all at
- 1:10once, you realize the picture didn't match the window and the
- 1:15gap between what you imagined and what is.
- 1:19That's not failure. That's just the cost of being
- 1:21someone who felt things deeply enough to hope.
- 1:25And there's this grief that doesn't have a funeral.
- 1:29Nobody sends flowers for the life you thought you'd be
- 1:32living, and nobody sits with you in the loss of the version of
- 1:36yourself you were so certain you'd become, and the chapter
- 1:40that was supposed to look different and the relationship
- 1:44that was supposed to last. And the moment you realize the
- 1:48picture had been quietly revised without your permission or
- 1:52awareness. But it's real.
- 1:55And it lives in your body in these quiet moments, in the
- 1:59Saturday nights, in the spaces between what is and what you
- 2:02imagined. And you're allowed to grieve the
- 2:06life you thought you'd have by now.
- 2:08You're allowed to let that be real without it meaning that
- 2:12something is broken in you. And that picture you had, the
- 2:17one that didn't come true, was drawn by a version of you who
- 2:21was working with what they had at the time.
- 2:24They didn't have everything that you have now.
- 2:27The things that you've learned, the things that you've survived,
- 2:31the experiences you've gone through, and the parts of
- 2:34yourself you've had to look at in the dark and decide what to
- 2:38do with. That version of you drew the
- 2:41best picture that they could with the colors that they had,
- 2:45But you have different colors now.
- 2:48And the picture you're drawing today, even if you can't see it
- 2:51yet, is being drawn by someone who knows more about what's
- 2:55actually true. And you don't have to figure it
- 3:00out right now. You don't have to have it all
- 3:02figured out, period. And you don't have to know what
- 3:05the new picture looks like, or feel hopeful about it yet, or
- 3:08even be ready to start drawing it yet.
- 3:11You can just be here in the dark at the end of a week that
- 3:15happened, whatever it held for you, and you're still here and
- 3:21you're still feeling things and you're still honest enough with
- 3:24yourself to sit in the quiet instead of running from it.
- 3:28And that is so much. That is not a small thing.
- 3:33That is the whole work happening right now in you and that life
- 3:40that you thought you'd have by now.
- 3:42Maybe it was always just a placeholder, like a rough draft,
- 3:48something drawn before you knew what you actually needed and
- 3:51what you actually wanted. And even deeper than that, who
- 3:56you really wanted to be in the world.
- 4:00So what's coming is being written right now by you in the
- 4:03dark, one honest moment at a time.
- 4:08So I'm going to leave the Lantern right here next to you.
- 4:11And you don't have to go anywhere.
- 4:13You don't have to figure anything out tonight.
- 4:15You can just rest, Rest and allow your mind to wander into
- 4:21the realms of what do you want now?
- 4:26Just let yourself Daydream and have a little bit of that
- 4:29sunshine and in fact, keep that Lantern right next to you and
- 4:33use that light to be the sunshine for you until you are
- 4:37able to step into it on your own.
- 4:40Have a wonderful, wonderful evening.
