- 0:00Speaker 1: Thirteen ten wib A Madison in the morning and asked
- 0:04Speaker 1: the experts joined in studio this morning, Bye mister Andrew
- 0:08Speaker 1: Larson of Larsen Home Services and studio via microphone, bo wires,
- 0:12Speaker 1: via internet cables, all that stuff. Andrew, how you been man?
- 0:17Speaker 2: I think my answer is always fantastic.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Yeah, it's tough, not to be fair.
- 0:21Speaker 2: I'm fantastic. No, it's great. Are you doing It's still November?
- 0:26Speaker 2: It is. It's beautiful, sunny, it's getting colder, but it's still.
- 0:30Speaker 2: I mean, it's late, it could be nasty, and we've
- 0:34Speaker 2: had some great weather and we've been able to get
- 0:36Speaker 2: a lot of work done, help a lot of people out. Yes,
- 0:39Speaker 2: before winter hits. And no, it's it's it's been really good.
- 0:43Speaker 1: We're going to talk about the end of the season
- 0:45Speaker 1: maintenance and it's a as you mentioned, it's we've got
- 0:48Speaker 1: a little bit of a reprieve from bad weather, which
- 0:50Speaker 1: kind of gave us procrastinators a little bit. Next time,
- 0:52Speaker 1: are you gonna good chance to go anywhere fun this year?
- 0:54Speaker 1: It seems like this time of year, Andrew, you take
- 0:57Speaker 1: you and the you and the crew from Larstorm Services
- 0:59Speaker 1: take trips sometimes, you guys do anything like that this
- 1:02Speaker 1: year is this we're in.
- 1:03Speaker 2: The planning stage, planning stage, it is. It is tough
- 1:07Speaker 2: right now. Right now is tough because we've got a
- 1:11Speaker 2: lot of work to do, and you know, you just
- 1:13Speaker 2: never know, We never know when things are going to turn.
- 1:17Speaker 2: And that's kind of why I wanted to talk about,
- 1:19Speaker 2: you know, some exterior maintains. I think I talked about
- 1:21Speaker 2: this honestly probably six eight weeks ago, like once we
- 1:26Speaker 2: get close to October. But I mean since then, we've
- 1:29Speaker 2: had seventies and eighties and great weather and and there's
- 1:33Speaker 2: been no reason to do it. So talking about fall
- 1:35Speaker 2: maintenance on the stuff that that we do. And you know,
- 1:40Speaker 2: I'm actually going to be doing a piece early next
- 1:43Speaker 2: week with a TV station in Wasaw. You guys don't know,
- 1:46Speaker 2: we have an office up there. We got we got
- 1:49Speaker 2: it covered. If you're a cheesehead, got you covered. But
- 1:55Speaker 2: it's it's it's going to be based on exactly that,
- 1:58Speaker 2: mainly with roofing and gutters. What is the fall maintenance
- 2:01Speaker 2: stuff that we should be looking at. But I mean
- 2:03Speaker 2: the basic stuff is you know, air ate your grass
- 2:06Speaker 2: overset if you want it to come back better next year.
- 2:09Speaker 2: This is the time to do it. You can put
- 2:10Speaker 2: dormant grass seed in it pops up when it warms up.
- 2:14Speaker 2: If you have sprinkler system, make sure you get it
- 2:16Speaker 2: blown out. That will freeze, that will expand and you
- 2:22Speaker 2: will have a problem next year. Every list that I
- 2:25Speaker 2: can look at, everything that I know of, one of
- 2:27Speaker 2: the main things it talks about is cleaning your gutters.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Yes, let's talk about that. I will one think too
- 2:35Speaker 1: about actually before we get to talking about that, because
- 2:37Speaker 1: this is something that I think is super vital. I
- 2:39Speaker 1: do want to mention you mentioned cheeseheads. You have offices Madison, obviously,
- 2:44Speaker 1: Milwaukee wasaw Fox Valley, Eagle River. And if you are
- 2:48Speaker 1: a Green and Gold packer fan in the great state
- 2:51Speaker 1: of Minnesota, and it is a great state, you guys
- 2:53Speaker 1: have a Rochester location as well. So anybody that can
- 2:56Speaker 1: hear our voice right now, our snome services is there
- 2:59Speaker 1: for you, or you can learn more online Larsenhomeservices dot com.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Let's talk gutters and the importance of Aside from the
- 3:07Speaker 1: fact that it's just something it's it's gross to think
- 3:09Speaker 1: about just leaving leaves and junk in those gutters, there's
- 3:12Speaker 1: some real benefits to taking care of those gutters, isn't
- 3:15Speaker 1: there absolutely?
- 3:16Speaker 2: I mean a lot of people get up and clean
- 3:19Speaker 2: their gutters out in the fall, but do they do
- 3:20Speaker 2: it enough, because there's times in the fall when you
- 3:23Speaker 2: could get up there every single week. And here's the
- 3:26Speaker 2: other big kicker. Although we have had a lot of
- 3:28Speaker 2: rain here of recent so if they're not working properly
- 3:31Speaker 2: right now, you're going to know it. But one of
- 3:33Speaker 2: the big problems is people clean out the gutters, but
- 3:35Speaker 2: do they clean out the down spouts, because if our
- 3:39Speaker 2: gutters are clawed, if our gutters aren't clogged, but our
- 3:44Speaker 2: down spouts are, none of it's going to work. So
- 3:48Speaker 2: we see it all the time, and things is in
- 3:50Speaker 2: the winter, get you get some leaves in there, so
- 3:53Speaker 2: say it just we just had what I don't even know.
- 3:55Speaker 2: I think I got like an inch and a half
- 3:56Speaker 2: the other night. Yeah right, I mean it's crazy. Right,
- 4:00Speaker 2: So we get an inch and a half of rain,
- 4:03Speaker 2: and your gutters might actually work right now because the
- 4:06Speaker 2: gutters are free flowing and there's not much stuff in
- 4:08Speaker 2: the downceball. But over the winter you get some freezing, thawing, freezing,
- 4:12Speaker 2: and then more freezing and then more freezing and thawing,
- 4:14Speaker 2: and now your gutters because they had a little bit
- 4:16Speaker 2: of junk in it, the downceballs are completely plugged. And
- 4:18Speaker 2: then we get that big rain in that early spring
- 4:22Speaker 2: weird rain time where it could be rain, could be snow.
- 4:25Speaker 2: We seem to get it every year. And now they're overflowing,
- 4:28Speaker 2: and they're overflowing next to frozen ground. And the problem
- 4:31Speaker 2: with that is if you don't have great drainage, meaning
- 4:35Speaker 2: great grade in your landscape and going away from your house,
- 4:39Speaker 2: now that water instead of just soaking into the ground
- 4:42Speaker 2: and running away, it's hitting the top of the ground,
- 4:45Speaker 2: maybe going down a couple inches, hitting the frost line,
- 4:47Speaker 2: coming back to the basement, and then we get water
- 4:51Speaker 2: in the basement and we see it all of the time.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Clean your gutters, or if you'd like to not have
- 5:00Speaker 2: to clean your gutters, please give us a call get
- 5:02Speaker 2: a free estimate. We can still put gutters on. The
- 5:05Speaker 2: great thing about gutter shutter is we don't disturb your shingles.
- 5:07Speaker 2: We don't need to put any flashing underneath your shingles.
- 5:10Speaker 2: We don't disturb your roof whatsoever. So there's no time
- 5:13Speaker 2: of the year really that we can't do it. We
- 5:17Speaker 2: install them all year long.
- 5:19Speaker 1: It is a great day as we talk about, you know,
- 5:21Speaker 1: not having to clean your gutters and the consequences of
- 5:24Speaker 1: clogged gutters, and especially as Andrew is pointing out, as
- 5:28Speaker 1: we work our way through the season, it can cause
- 5:29Speaker 1: some significant damage. And it's a great time right now.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Pick up phone, gimme a call Urse Home Services six
- 5:34Speaker 1: oh eight five three five forty three forty three. That's
- 5:36Speaker 1: five three five four three four three for Larsen Home
- 5:39Speaker 1: Services and Andrew. Unfortunately, and I know we've we've brought
- 5:43Speaker 1: this up before. The unfortunate thing is oftentimes people call
- 5:46Speaker 1: after they've had this issue, after they've had their basement flooded,
- 5:49Speaker 1: and maybe sometimes their basement flooded and they've tried other
- 5:52Speaker 1: things like trying to change the grating, or maybe they
- 5:55Speaker 1: tried to oh well, we'll just put different down spouts,
- 5:57Speaker 1: and they spend all this time and money and never
- 5:59Speaker 1: getting a real resolution or real problem solved, Whereas simply
- 6:03Speaker 1: calling before it becomes an issue, or if you've had
- 6:05Speaker 1: the issue, simply calling now and talking about it can
- 6:09Speaker 1: really save headache, can really save your basement, can save
- 6:12Speaker 1: yourself a lot of money as well by having it
- 6:14Speaker 1: done right the first time.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Yes, yes, that's exactly it. So do it right the
- 6:22Speaker 2: first time. Don't wait till your basement floods. Like I
- 6:27Speaker 2: can't stress it enough. And you know, here's what happens too,
- 6:31Speaker 2: is we go out, we give people estimates and I'll
- 6:33Speaker 2: be the first to admit, like, gutter shutter, it is
- 6:35Speaker 2: not cheap. It can't be. There's a lot of material,
- 6:40Speaker 2: expensive brackets, expensive end caps. And also our people are
- 6:44Speaker 2: paid very well. And that's one of the reasons why
- 6:47Speaker 2: we stand behind our work so much is because, I mean,
- 6:49Speaker 2: the experience that we have on our team. I've got
- 6:52Speaker 2: an installer that has roughly like one and a half
- 6:55Speaker 2: million feet of experience. So I mean you're talking like
- 7:00Speaker 2: this guy's seen everything, been there, done that. So and
- 7:05Speaker 2: if anybody's ever had Jordan who's listening work on their home,
- 7:07Speaker 2: they know he's the best of the best. He's probably
- 7:10Speaker 2: the best gutter installer in the country. And I'm not
- 7:12Speaker 2: just throwing that out there. So our people are paid
- 7:15Speaker 2: very well, they stick around for a long time. That's
- 7:17Speaker 2: why we have a lifetime no claw guarantee, a lifetime
- 7:19Speaker 2: workmanship guarantee, anything's wrong with it, you call us. We're
- 7:22Speaker 2: going to fix it. We're going to replace it, we're
- 7:23Speaker 2: going to clean it. The other big thing I want
- 7:25Speaker 2: to talk about real quick is with the rain that
- 7:27Speaker 2: we had this weekend and the rain we had the
- 7:29Speaker 2: other night, we've set thirteen appointments this week just for
- 7:32Speaker 2: people calling because their roof is leaking. Oh the average
- 7:36Speaker 2: age of those leaking roofs was eight years. Oh wow,
- 7:41Speaker 2: So what does that tell me? That tells me the
- 7:43Speaker 2: reason we started our roof restore program was a good one. Yeah,
- 7:48Speaker 2: And that's exactly why we started doing it, because I
- 7:51Speaker 2: just got sick and tired of my guys going out
- 7:54Speaker 2: to a leaky roof and us tearing off shingles that
- 7:57Speaker 2: were less than ten years old. It's just it's silly.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Now it's better for us to tear it off and
- 8:03Speaker 2: put a new roof on. We make more money doing it,
- 8:06Speaker 2: But that's not really what it's about. We're trying to
- 8:09Speaker 2: help the customer, and helping the customer isn't always just
- 8:12Speaker 2: you know what, someone did it wrong. We're going to
- 8:14Speaker 2: tear it off and we're going to give you a
- 8:15Speaker 2: new one. Some people want that, actually, some people are upset.
- 8:19Speaker 2: They're like, no, get it off, I want your roof. Okay, fine,
- 8:22Speaker 2: we can do that. But most of the time, if
- 8:24Speaker 2: your roof is eight years old, your shingles not. Most
- 8:28Speaker 2: of the time, if your roof is eight years old,
- 8:29Speaker 2: your shingles are fine. I don't care who put the
- 8:31Speaker 2: roof on, and I don't care what kind of shingles
- 8:33Speaker 2: they are. They're fine. It's a critical detail that was missed,
- 8:38Speaker 2: some sort of flashing ice and water, improper installation of
- 8:44Speaker 2: your underlayment, improper ventilation. We actually have people who think
- 8:48Speaker 2: their roof is leaking because they have blocked ventilation. And
- 8:52Speaker 2: what happens is and then we don't have proper air
- 8:55Speaker 2: ceiling and we don't have proper insulation. So if you
- 8:58Speaker 2: take something like non working ventilation and you team that
- 9:02Speaker 2: up with a non air sealed attic in an under
- 9:05Speaker 2: insulated attic, boy, now all that warm moist air from
- 9:08Speaker 2: the inside of your house is going straight up into
- 9:10Speaker 2: the attic. And since there's no ventilation, what's gonna happens
- 9:15Speaker 2: on the exact SI you got? You've learned so much. Yeah,
- 9:19Speaker 2: I'm so proud of you.
- 9:21Speaker 1: I learned it all from you. I've learned it from
- 9:23Speaker 1: the best. And that's and that as we as we
- 9:26Speaker 1: talk about these things, and you mentioned, you know, some
- 9:28Speaker 1: of the roofs that you've recently been working on as well,
- 9:31Speaker 1: all of this stuff comes down to doing it right
- 9:33Speaker 1: the first time. And for people with newer roofs that
- 9:35Speaker 1: are that are calling you saying we've got this issue,
- 9:37Speaker 1: I guarantee you when they had that roof put on,
- 9:40Speaker 1: they called somebody else. I guarantee you that maybe they
- 9:42Speaker 1: bought their house new when it was whoever built their
- 9:44Speaker 1: house put that roof on, and now they're experiencing those issues,
- 9:47Speaker 1: and it's it's something that hadn't been done right the
- 9:50Speaker 1: first time. It could have saved them time, money, frustration, damage.
- 9:53Speaker 1: All those things, whether it's the gutters, whether it's the
- 9:56Speaker 1: roof or both, those are those are important things. And
- 9:59Speaker 1: I know as somebody who's had you guys, your guys
- 10:02Speaker 1: do work.
- 10:02Speaker 2: On our house.
- 10:02Speaker 1: A matter of fact, the only people that do work
- 10:04Speaker 1: on the outside of our house are your guys. For
- 10:06Speaker 1: these very reasons. Is you mentioned it is, it's it's
- 10:09Speaker 1: we're not talking cheap product, but again, prime case, get
- 10:12Speaker 1: what you pay for, you get that warranty. You get
- 10:14Speaker 1: that assurance that you want to have to deal with
- 10:16Speaker 1: cleaning gutters, you won't have to deal with issues with
- 10:18Speaker 1: your roof.
- 10:18Speaker 2: If you do.
- 10:19Speaker 1: You have issues with your roof, Larsen the team, Andrew
- 10:21Speaker 1: and the team will come on out and take care
- 10:22Speaker 1: of you. I'll got to pick a phone, gam a
- 10:24Speaker 1: call this morning. Six so eight five three five forty
