- 0:07The Los Angeles Dodgers face the Baltimore Orioles at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore for Game 4 of the 1966 World Series on October 9th.
- 0:16The Orioles lead the best of seven series, three games to none, and this is the NBC National Broadcast of Game 4 featuring announcers Bob Prince and Vince Scully.
- 0:26This is the NBC Radio Network.
- 0:32This is WGY, A-10 on your radio dial and WGF and Schenectady.
- 0:41Hi everybody and a very pleasant day to you wherever you may be.
- 0:44It's Cully along with Bob Prince welcoming you to Memorial Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland and the 1966 World Series.
- 0:52Brought by Chrysler Corporation, makers of Chrysler Plymouth.
- 0:59By the world's best seller Gillette, right guard.
- 1:03Camel filters, the filter cigarette that was born rich.
- 1:08And by cutting black label, why not enjoy one right now.
- 1:18Well it's like an echo of the first game, the starting pitchers Dave McNally and Don Drysdale.
- 1:23The six umpires meeting at home plate.
- 1:26Change of lineup cards between Captain Moriwills of the Dodgers and the manager Hank Bauer of the Baltimore Orioles.
- 1:34For the Dodgers, down and one to go, only the wrong way.
- 1:38And for Baltimore, the day they are hoping for is here.
- 1:42Dave loosening up to Charlie Lau off to the left, had a bad start you remember as he was very wild at Dodger Stadium.
- 1:49Worked only two and a third innings.
- 1:51Walked five men, gave up two and had to come out.
- 1:54However McNally's performance as it lacked luster was suddenly turned into a bright day.
- 2:00More with a tremendous performance by Mo Drabowski.
- 2:03Who although he was not ready for the last two games is now ready today if needed to pick up.
- 2:09For the Dodgers a do or die effort by Don Drysdale.
- 2:13Drysdale you remember in his first inning of World Series competition against Baltimore.
- 2:18Gave up a walk to Russ Snyder and back to back home runs by Frank Robinson and Brooks Robinson.
- 2:24Drysdale has had men spoiled this year because of home runs.
- 2:29And the home run, the World Series and the name Drysdale have gone together for this reason.
- 2:34Drysdale has allowed seven home runs in World Series competition.
- 2:39The record is eight.
- 2:41And the first man to win against Don Drysdale in the World Series, Hank Bauer the manager of the Baltimore Orioles.
- 2:47Drysdale of course well aware of the pressure that is on his shoulders.
- 2:51But he had to pick some very big games at the end of the 1966 season and won all of them.
- 2:58And for the first time in a year he lost and that was the game in the World Series.
- 3:02The weatherman has come up with a beautiful day.
- 3:05Another bright sunshine in Baltimore and another capacity crowd.
- 3:10The crowds for the series we had 55,941 for the first game, 55,947 for the second.
- 3:19Yesterday the largest crowd ever to see a baseball game or 54,445.
- 3:26And the crowd somewhere around that to see this one today.
- 3:30If the series is prolonged, if the Dodgers can win today, why they'll be after each other again tomorrow.
- 3:37If not, the 1966 season will be brought to a close.
- 3:42The Dodgers had to win some pretty big ball games and most of them were played at home.
- 3:47And Bob Prince, your Pittsburgh Pirates when they came to Dodger Stadium in a must series.
- 3:53And the Dodgers won the first three and I can imagine that the Pirates felt that it was a rather tough club on the field.
- 3:59It was a rather tough club under pressure.
- 4:01Yes and they have often remarked and manager Harry Walker who was in town covering the series Ben,
- 4:06I don't understand their play in the first three games against Baltimore and they never played that way against us.
- 4:12The Dodgers got more mileage out of blue pits, walks, infield singles, bunts, running bunts than anybody we ever saw.
- 4:18That is from the Pittsburgh Pirates side.
- 4:21So those of the National League who had it with the Dodgers know full well that while they are down they are far from out.
- 4:27And I would feel the thinking on the part of the Dodgers is now,
- 4:31Big D as he's known must come on to keep them in the series and then expect that tomorrow Mr. Kofax will hum up another great one,
- 4:38which has been the story of ball club.
- 4:40So a lot goes today on this one, no question about it.
- 4:43For Don Drysdale who would be in excellent shape despite the fact 500 during the regular season,
- 4:50Drysdale a fastball pitcher but not the fastball pitcher of yore.
- 4:55He does not intimidate hitters as he did 10 years ago, 8 years ago, even as late as 2 years ago.
- 5:02Don prior to this World Series, striked out an inning.
- 5:06That is not the Drysdale that we saw in the first game of the series and it does not figure to be the Drysdale that we will see today.
- 5:14In one of Don's more important starts against the St. Louis Cardinals in St. Louis,
- 5:19in fact it was his next to the last regular season,
- 5:22he went 9 strong innings and struck out but one and that more or less has been the difference in Drysdale this year than in years guy.
- 5:31He is not up there among the strikeout leaders.
- 5:34Oddly enough, the Baltimore Oriole pitching which if not underrated was certainly overshadowed by the Baltimore power has been piling up the strikeouts.
- 5:45If you care for any stats at all, the composites, 21 Dodgers have been left on base, the Orioles have left 16.
- 5:54The Orioles have been able to hit with men armed, the Dodgers have left them there.
- 5:59And of course there have been a couple of big plays in the series.
- 6:02Bob despite the fact it has been Baltimore, just going back to McNally's first game,
- 6:08remember the second inning with runners at first and second and the pitch that hit the Burrows back.
- 6:14That might very well have been one of the big plays of the series.
- 6:17No question about that and also in addition to that as I recall,
- 6:21look back at Homer and then Parker had doubled into the gap and Gilliam drew a base on balls.
- 6:27Then right after McNally hit Roseboro's back which had questioned a wild pitch on ball three,
- 6:32Parker would have scored, Gilliam would have gone conceivably to second, maybe to third.
- 6:37Roseboro then hit a giant drive in the right field in which young Snyder made a fantastic play.
- 6:44And right there perhaps was the very end of this World Series because there's no question
- 6:49that the Dodgers would have been back in the ball game and with a very big vengeance.
- 6:54And yesterday they have the misfortune to see the bat ball hit by Parker again,
- 6:59go over the right center fence and holding to a book rule double instead of the triple.
- 7:04Well, if Davis would have given him the run, so it looks as though the breaks that the Dodgers have been
- 7:10looking for and got sometimes throughout the season that took advantage of it have not come their way thus far in this series.
- 7:16We only bring up these so-called breaks and you can put quotes to illustrate the fact that despite it is an
- 7:22overwhelming Baltimore series, they have won all three games.
- 7:26Yet there have been a couple of plays whereby had it gone the other way,
- 7:30they might very well have won one or maybe even two of the three.
- 7:34So they go into the fourth game with Baltimore's Dave McNally loosening.
- 7:39Dave going two and a third innings in his first venture and Don Drysdale who went only two innings his first time out
- 7:45and was just with the back-to-back home runs and four runs.
- 7:49In the background, the Dodgers starting lineup being introduced to the crowd.
- 7:54Neither club has made any changes, that is to say Hank Bauer goes with the ball club that he has used all year against
- 8:01right-handers and in this that means Russ Schneider in center field.
- 8:05And for the Dodgers, they're going with the same lineup that they have used all year against left-handers
- 8:11with the help of John Kennedy at third base.
- 8:15The roar in the background for the Baltimore Orioles as they are being introduced,
- 8:21as the Dodgers have already lined up in their road gray from first base towards home plate.
- 8:27And the manager and one of the great fellows in the game, Hank Bauer,
- 8:31cutting out to third base and from there on the birds will line up towards home plate.
- 8:36The vice president of the United Hubert Humphreys here with us today
- 8:41and 54,000 rabid folks sitting in the sunshine and waiting the start of the fourth game of the World Series.
- 8:52The Dodgers go into this game with a slish streak.
- 8:55Remember they have not scored against Baltimore pitching in the last 24 innings.
- 9:00That would be the first game when Gilliam Walk with the bases loaded.
- 9:05Now the World Series record for consecutive scoreless innings is 28 by the New York Giants for Philadelphia A's.
- 9:13And you have to go back 60 years for that record, 1905.
- 9:17The Giants pitchers ended the series by taking three shutouts in a row.
- 9:22That was the series record and they won four out of five from the A's.
- 9:26The great pitchers of the Giants back in 05 were Christy Mathieson, Joe McGinnity, and Christy Mathieson again.
- 9:34Several of other notes as far as the Dodgers' inability to pile up any runs or any offenses against Baltimore pitching.
- 9:42The record for the fewest runs by one team in the World Series is three by the Athletics against the Giants in that 05 World Series.
- 9:52The record for the fewest runs by one club in a four game series, four, by the Yankees against the Dodgers in 1963,
- 10:00which brought to a point that the last time one club was able to sweep a World Series from another would be the Los Angeles Dodgers of 19,
- 10:09when they swept four straight from the New York Yankees.
- 10:13There have been nine sweeps in the series and two others which went five games and were decided by four and 0 plus a tie.
- 10:23The umpires, John Rice of the American plate umpire, we'll get to the other umpires in a moment, but right now the large crowd standing functional anthem.
- 10:37Reverent honors to the flag will be a special attachment of U.S. Marines from Fort Sweeney, Maryland. Ladies and gentlemen, our national anthem.
- 10:53Oh, what a wonderful feeling, what a wonderful feeling, what a wonderful feeling,
- 11:10what a wonderful feeling, what a wonderful feeling, what a wonderful feeling,
- 11:26what a wonderful feeling, what a wonderful feeling, what a wonderful feeling,
- 11:42what a wonderful feeling, what a wonderful feeling.
- 12:28World Series is seconds away and to bring you the play-by-play the voice of the
- 12:40Pittsburgh Pirates here's a friend. Thank you very much Vince Kelly and hello again
- 12:45everybody beautiful sunshiney day as you know by now and the Dodger lineup is at
- 12:49that short stop leading it off Morrie Wills batting in the number two position
- 12:54playing centerfield Willie Davis in a right field and third Lou Johnson the
- 13:00left fielder is Tommy Davis batting in the cleanup spot. Kim LeFevre will play
- 13:05at second base and back in the number six spot first baseman Wes Parker
- 13:11batting seven catching the net is Johnny Roseboro and batting eight John Kennedy
- 13:21playing at third with big Don Gries. The vice president of the United States
- 13:28Honorable Hubert Humphrey just tossed out the first and the Orioles take the
- 13:32field.
- 13:45We'll set them up for you defensively in a moment a batting show at short
- 13:49Schneider in centerfield Robinson Frank Robinson in right.
- 13:54Brooks Robinson at third Boog Powell at first base Kirk Boyle on left. Johnson
- 14:00Dave Johnson will be the second baseman and yet catching and on the mound
- 14:05Young McNally who as you know has been told you earlier appeared in game one
- 14:12pitch two and a third innings allowing two runs on hits struck out one and wonk
- 14:16five he's a left-hander.
- 14:21Radificently when McNally was pitching and walking all of the Dodger batters in
- 14:27The inning in which he was having all kinds of trouble the third on the Dodger
- 14:32message board they welcomed the visit to Dodger Stadium of the astronauts and
- 14:37made the remark that one of the astronauts was the first man to walk in
- 14:42outer space and the first box wag came up with a usual remark McNally must have
- 14:49been on. This is the 28th year Gillette has sponsored the World Series
- 14:55broadcasts and the 20th year Gillette has sponsored the World Series on
- 14:59television.
- 15:04There are homerous quotes and bits that attend the World Series and one of them
- 15:10of course occurred in Dodger Stadium again somebody asked Frank Robinson how
- 15:15he hit Sandy Kovacs and Frank very quickly replied right-handed. So those
- 15:21are the things that come about in ball classic and we're set to go now and
- 15:25McNally with Etchever in his battery mate Robinson is at third Aparicio at
- 15:30short Jim Powell at first Leffrey in left field Snyder in center Frank
- 15:35Robinson in right. Preston Gomez coaching for the Dodgers at third Danny
- 15:39Ozark at first. Played umpire is John Rice of the American League. McNally goes
- 15:45to switch batting wheels who's won for 10 years. Third baseman Brooks Robinson up
- 15:49tight the outfield is not deep first pitch is swung on and popped into
- 15:53shallow short Johnson and Aparicio giving a chase coming up for it also
- 15:57Snyder. Dave Johnson the second baseman and that time converging on the ball Aparicio Johnson Robinson and Snyder.
- 16:05That shows you how shallow the Oriole outfielders were playing to begin with
- 16:10when they could all get there and any one of them could have caught it.
- 16:16Center fielder Willie Davis in a left-hand batter one for 12 in the series.
- 16:20The outfielders swung around to the right on him. Field nine down both lines 4-10
- 16:25straight away. 380 to left center right center McNally's ball is Bennett Fowl
- 16:29behind the plate strike one. Rounding out this excellent crew of umpires with John
- 16:34Rice behind the plate is Mel Steiner of the National League at first.
- 16:37Carl Drummond of the American League at second. Husky of the National League at
- 16:41third. Nester Shalak down the left field line of the American League and Chris
- 16:45Felikoudis in right from the National League. Oh and one to Willie Davis.
- 16:49Fastball hit foul of left side out of play. Strike two.
- 16:57The on deck batter right fielder Lou Johnson. Whom has been as told you on
- 17:01occasion will swing right or left depending on the insertion of Tommy Davis
- 17:06lineup. Tommy always plays left field and Lou then moves from left to right.
- 17:10No balls two strikes. One out and one on the steps out. Time called immediately.
- 17:17The Dodgers approach this one knowing full well that like a dying man needs his
- 17:22breath there is nothing after tomorrow unless they win today. No balls two
- 17:27strikes. Loops back in the side of play. Etch a baron getting it a long hard
- 17:33check.
- 17:39Now that came to the seats about 40 rows. It's always been a source of amazement
- 17:43to many who observe the game of baseball how an outfielder can turn at the crack
- 17:47of a bat and run a ball and then fruitlessly chase it back on one that they
- 17:51know is never going to be catchable except by a fan. Good foul I'm a sucker put out.
- 17:57So
- 18:04has been told you now on the pregame get together 24 scoreless innings and should
- 18:13Baltimore put four more against the Dodgers here today they'll tie a record.
- 18:18Good way about that if and when it approaches here is the right fielder Lou
- 18:22Johnson three for eleven in the series. They play him as a full hitter McNally
- 18:26The left-hander come can ball to the belt for a call strike and Lou didn't like it.
- 18:31Tommy Davis the on deck batter. There is no winter here today. Two down in the top
- 18:38of the first no score. The pitch a let-up delivery hit foul over by the Oriole
- 18:42dugout along third. Oh and two so McNally's out in front. McNally in the
- 18:52first game walked Maury Wells and he promptly stole second base but then he
- 18:56got out of the inning but then Lefevre right-hand batting at that time
- 18:59Homer and McNally his worst troubles right there. Here's the 0-2 pitch.
- 19:06This one's off to the right maybe play it comes over near the base of the
- 19:10railing leans in and gets it.
- 19:15So it turns out three up and three down. Here we go now out of half of the first inning and it is
- 19:21Los Angeles nothing Baltimore nothing.
- 19:25Plymouth is out to win you over this year. Is out to win you over this year. Follow your Plymouth dealer today.
- 19:46This is Edie Gourmet for your Plymouth dealer. He's out to win you over the 67 with the most stories ever.
- 19:53A new supercar the Belvedere GPS. Beautiful all new Valium's. Your Plymouth dealer is all heart.
- 20:01Plymouth is out to win you over this year. Follow your Plymouth dealer today.
- 20:16The Elegant Furies all new Valium's and sports bread Belvedere's now at your Plymouth dealer's.
- 20:23He's got what it takes to win you over. Dodgers now go to the defense.
- 20:32John Kennedy at third. Morrie Wells at short. Jim Lefevre at second. Wes Parker at first.
- 20:39Tommy Davis, Willie Davis, Johnson in the outfield. Driesdale and Roseboro the battery. Billy Hunter coaching third and Gene Woodling at first.
- 20:47And the lead off batter Luis Aparicio. The shortstop Green in the series has two runs batted in in the series.
- 20:56Big Don comes in with a fastball picks up the outside corner strike call.
- 21:01They're straight away in the outfield to Aparicio. In fact Johnson and Davis pinch in a little bit on Willie Davis giving him some of.
- 21:10Most score as Baltimore now bats in the bottom of their first. Aparicio, Snatter and Robinson.
- 21:16The old one Don Driesdale's a little punch foul.
- 21:21And if you heard me stop the cars I can steal them better than I can stop them with my mouth. That one like to get the old gunner.
- 21:28Strike two foul came right back.
- 21:34Sir I wasn't going to try to catch it. No balls two strikes. That's the closest we've had one here in the series.
- 21:41So on to Aparicio. Found him straight back on a fastball.
- 21:51Don Driesdale. You will remember a pitch two innings for four runs and four hits in the first game October the fifth.
- 22:05Nothing into the count.
- 22:09Driesdale comes back with a fastball that's popped up and Johnny Roseboro flips off the mask in foul territory to the right of home plate accepts the charge.
- 22:18That'll bring up Russ Snyder the center fielder who plays there when a right hander is going.
- 22:25He's won for three in the series and has one run batted in.
- 22:32You recall now failure of Pittsburgh to defeat the Giants in the final game of nineteen sixty six necessitated then the pitching of Copacs in the second game.
- 22:44Which then brought about a man by the name of Driesdale in the first game who was not rest of the curve ball down one.
- 22:53But that's all in the realm of what might have been for Gnosticade as you will.
- 22:59Sam batting Snyder the outfield swings just a little right on him not too much a gap in left center field and Kennedy's up tight at the fastball and he bunches might have been hit by his own pitch.
- 23:10He batted the ball on a bunny play out in front of the plate and ran into it on a fair batted ball to catch your guy.
- 23:18So Roseboro gets the put out.
- 23:23Hit by his fair batted ball or running into it either way and the out is made and Roseboro gets to put out on the surface.
- 23:32Two that field of Frank Robinson one homer and two runs batted in and it was he who homered against Driesdale in the first inning.
- 23:46So it's two away and no score.
- 23:48We're in the bottom of the first here in bar.
- 23:51Driesdale's delivery hit high and the shallow left Tommy Davis drifting over coming over by the warning three hundred somewhat feet away to make the catch.
- 24:00It sounded as though Frank Robinson hit that ball out on the end of the bat.
- 24:03Three up and three down at the end of one while stepping ball to more nothing.
- 24:13A great new filter cigarette is born.
- 24:19Born with the name Camel.
- 24:25You Camel filters.
- 24:30Born rich.
- 24:34You Camel filters.
- 24:37This is the one born rich in taste with a big camel head start on flavor.
- 24:44Now that great camel heritage of real comes to you in a great new filter cigarette.
- 24:50No other can compare in flavor.
- 24:53No other can compare in quality to new camel filters is the one you want to try.
- 24:59Try Camel filters the one born rich.
- 25:11Then Scully along with Bob Prince from a medium in Baltimore no runs no hits and no errors at the end of one inning for each side.
- 25:18Both starting pitchers doing a lot better than last time out McNally quills and he stole second four games ago.
- 25:24And of course Driesdale gave up two home runs in the first inning the first shot against Baltimore.
- 25:29No score under the second inning and back to Bob.
- 25:33Tommy Davis will lead it off.
- 25:34He's a left fielder batting in the clean up position McNally the left ready to go.
- 25:39First pitch comes in fastball makes him button hooked to get out of the way as it was inside one ball to no strikes.
- 25:45Tommy Davis play like full hitter apparition back near the edge of the outfield grass Robinson wide a third is rather deep.
- 25:55Next pitch is line for right center field running for fast flank Robinson and he'll make the.
- 26:06And then at the risk of sounding as though it's strictly a partisan national league.
- 26:16Robinson got a fine jump on the ball.
- 26:18He was running full till just about as soon as it left the bat great outfielding play and he made it look easy.
- 26:24Kim LeFevre the second baseman these one for 10 in the series they switch off speed delivery down below the knees ball one beautiful sunshine day and historic.
- 26:41One ball no strike.
- 26:47Let up his profile and because of the lead up he got way around on it.
- 26:53One ball one strike they asked him to their book rules and ground rules here at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore and we shan't get into them and hope that we shan't have to explain any one of them.
- 27:03They have all sorts of things that could happen in this stadium.
- 27:07And of course they're well covered by rules one one point of the channel there are two balls in a strike.
- 27:18Little chin music two balls and.
- 27:25No score one out and then on here's the pitch but he's way outside with it ball three three on LeFevre now we'll look down to third.
- 27:33To.
- 27:35Coach Preston.
- 27:40The Dodgers without question will pull anything in the book and this one they have to three one delivery is up high welcome.
- 27:48That is the first walk given up by McNally his sixth in the series and brings West Parker switch batting first baseman batting in the number six spot has three for 10.
- 27:59It was his double yesterday on the book rule of bounced into the right center seats that denied him a triple and a Dodger run as it turns out for Willie Davis then the suing batter efficiently deep that Parker would have scored.
- 28:14So they're going to play a little bit around to the left on Parker McNally checks LeFevre the pitches in there for strike.
- 28:23Tommy Davis lined a rope into right field hauled in by Robinson the lead off this to that second and now LeFevre has walked there is no scores yet and West Parker no balls one strike the batter.
- 28:36Again McNally checks LeFevre and the pitch there's a high chopper hit slowly toward church top after he showed gets it on for one they'll not get Parker the high bouncing ball slowly hit denied the.
- 28:49Fine inner defenses of Baltimore the chance to make the double play so the out will go short to second ever.
- 28:56No play at all on Parker that'll bring up catcher John Roseboro who's one for 11 in the series.
- 29:04Now in the Dodger second inning no score.
- 29:09And the runner Parker.
- 29:15They play him a bat straight away long high fly ball in the right field appears to be getting under without any trouble gauging up against the sky makes the catch.
- 29:26So far the Dodgers in the second no runs no hits no Baltimore area and they stand one and we go to the bottom of the second Los Angeles nothing Baltimore nothing.
- 29:39You know the world series marks the end of baseball action for the year but football is shifting into high gear and if you'd like first great seats for the top games and for less than 50 cents a game I have a suggestion.
- 29:52Get motor angular color television you see Motorola color television costs as little as 15 cents a viewing hour now that's less than 50 cents a game based on the price of a table and three year contract.
- 30:05You get Motorola solid state reliability at 17 critical points numbered controls for easy color tuning and the big bright rectangular picture pioneered by Motorola this year see football in color and enjoy it more also get a bigger kick out of your favorite nighttime shows because they're in color too.
- 30:25Play your Motorola dealer and discover how you can have television for as little as 15 cents a viewing hour with Motorola now introducing the new flight of color TV.
- 30:49All right we go now to the bottom of the Baltimore second inning this game is scoreless neither side has had a hit.
- 30:57And standing in will be third baseman Brooks Robinson, who is two for 11 played umpire John Rice is asking that something be a chair be removed to the lower left side of the Dodger dugout because it would be actually in the field of play.
- 31:17Driesdale working out the right hand batting right wing in the messy started him off with a change up.
- 31:22Oh and one Robinson, you'll recall, backed up Frank Robinson's homer against Driesdale in one which tied a series record.
- 31:32Here's the on one. There's a ball hit up them.
- 31:42Brooks Robinson took a fastball knee high and went with it.
- 31:56Now book power stepping in these four for 11 in the series left him better and if you might sound as though he were being booed that is not true. They're just going boog and drawing it out, much as they used to do with Pazusky in Cincinnati or with Moose scowren.
- 32:13One of the Yankees ball tailed away that time outside ball on saw the first of game four goes to Baltimore's Brooks Robinson.
- 32:27Move power one ball no strikes the outfield even around to the right.
- 32:32Short lead at first by Brooks the pitch in there beautifully on the outside corners of ball moved away from the big fellow one on one.
- 32:42They used to put a lot in the outfield and first base but they settled him down to first base as it better suited their plans and he has been a very fine first baseman for Baltimore one ball one.
- 32:56Good fastball and boo just got a few and two.
- 33:12He's a good curve but laced a fastball up the middle for a single so he's the runner at fur down in the batter booed power ball and two strike count.
- 33:24Guys Dale checks at first base brings it in there and foul down the left field and deep into the lower deck one and two.
- 33:38I see a bird power up there I really have a vision of a former huge first baseman by the name of John Mize.
- 33:56One ball two strikes.
- 34:00Well comes in with a fastball it's up high to to Big Don of course would like to get how to hit the ball on the ground and preferably right near somebody so they can double play ball to strike to how is he going to set any world speed records and running.
- 34:19But an awful lot of times he just trots.
- 34:25He's got a lot of strikes.
- 34:29Dr. Dale checking for the sign from Roseboro characteristic pose the way he looks in.
- 34:39Don on the two to brings a curveball and he stuck him out swinging him a little bit off that breaking ball and Big Don picks up his first strike out.
- 34:49Left fielder Kirk Bluffery left hand better within there is no score one down in the Baltimore second inning the runner at first Brooks Robinson left hand better one for eleven in the series field over shifting on him to the right they gap in the left center and Tommy Davis gives him a battery left field line.
- 35:11He's signing you now real nine down both lines or 10 straight away with an inner wall involved.
- 35:20Dries Dale now to the set position. Check it first and goes over there and a quick tag by put damage as Brooks Robinson dies back in headline.
- 35:36He's going to be out for a moment. They'll always question whether he's out of the batter's box or not. He stands very deep in it.
- 35:43Here's the pitch and this one is a curveball inside low ball on many of the umpires will take and erase the chalk line out it's a lime and they don't want their throwing balls into the dirt kicking that lime up into their face.
- 35:58It doesn't take them long to eradicate the line one ball of no strikes.
- 36:07Brooks Robinson opening with a single remaining there on a strikeout to booed Powell.
- 36:13Again Dries Dale from the belt comes in with a fastball and it's pumped foul for deck off third.
- 36:27First inning went very quickly three up three down no score there. The Dodgers had just a mile foot going when Lefebvre when he was out on a force play.
- 36:36So actually nothing happened there in the Dodgers second and they're still looking for a hit and run.
- 36:47Robinson at first on the single one out no score in the one ball one strike and a throw to first and Brooks is back.
- 36:56Dries Dale has a very quick move over the face.
- 37:03One and one.
- 37:05Pitch to Bluffery a foul behind the plate one and two.
- 37:12Ben said earlier the weatherman has certainly was an ideal beautiful day here in the city of Baltimore where another jam packed audience on hand including the vice president states who threw out the first ball.
- 37:27One ball two strikes.
- 37:30Vice president Vietnam however basically Minnesota twin fans.
- 37:35One ball two strikes.
- 37:38The pitch to to.
- 37:43Johnny Roseboro is probably the most quiet of all the catchers but is one of the most durable of all the catchers and I have yet to talk to any baseball player that's ever slid into them who didn't say somebody always got hurt but it was never Roseboro.
- 37:59Two balls two strikes.
- 38:02Hi foul coming back out of play to to us at time when I thought Roseboro might tragically have been injured when one of his present teammates Dick Stewart was batting.
- 38:14And him out ball that came run off the bat and went right in between the face bars of Johnny's mask and struck him between the eyes Luckily he didn't injure him and he was able to remain in the game but it came awfully close to being very injurious.
- 38:28Two balls two strikes.
- 38:32Still checking.
- 38:34I'm just low ball three and I will watch brook Robinson for you.
- 38:38Three balls two strikes Robinson the runner at first one out no score in the Baltimore second inning.
- 38:49So Don Drysdale has his first three to count.
- 38:54In the game.
- 38:57Will's is hollering him behind his glove something to the fever setting themselves up for how they'll cover if they have to drysdale checks it first there and it's inside ball for.
- 39:09So Robinson goes to second on molested and Bluffery.
- 39:20And that is the first edition to Baltimore and the batter now is Davey Johnson the youngster who has been a surprising hitting sensation in the series thus far for for 11.
- 39:31All right and batter so Brooks Robinson at second and Kurt Bluffery at first.
- 39:43Bluffery doesn't carry the high season average but if you get him out you get when he's hitting your strike there's a chopper hit down toward the fever turns gets it on the wheels for one on the first base a double play.
- 39:55I'll bring in execution or a will as Bluffery really put a roll block on him to get him out of there but he got the throw away anyhow.
- 40:02Not yet nor is there one left at the end of two full in his apply while things are there's nothing and Baltimore nothing. So you know it's great to be in well which one by Baltimore or Los Angeles.
- 40:15Well right now I mean Gillette Foamy.
- 40:18Oh I might have known.
- 40:19Yeah well you should have the big winner in the shade cream league all these instant lather sets up your beard for your blood like no other shade cream you ever tried.
- 40:28Nobody makes a foamy.
- 40:30Oh you mean so moist so rich and so creamy.
- 40:33Right you are you get together with a winner every time you shave with Foamy.
- 40:37Well nobody makes other like Gillette.
- 40:39By George I think you've got it.
- 40:40I think I'll get it.
- 40:41Foamy by Gillette.
- 40:43And while you're at it bring home the right guard.
- 40:45Talk about popularity guard power spray deodorant is a six to one favorite with men.
- 40:50Six to one.
- 40:51Big favorite with families too.
- 40:53Right guard is always the personal deodorant for everybody because nothing touches you but the spray itself.
- 41:00Just two seconds gives you a 24 hour protection lasts far longer with regular use too.
- 41:05Yes Gillette right guard so effective it's the world's best selling deodorant.
- 41:10Don't be without it.
- 41:14Scoreless at the end of two with one base hit going for Brooks Robinson so as we go to the third for more play let's get right back to Bob.
- 41:22All right Ben and standing in now that was a sparkling double play because it was a chopper hit by young Johnson who can muck getting down the line.
- 41:31But he turned and made a nice throw to Maury Wills and then Mr. Bluffery came running right in and he wasn't going to do much in the way of a slide.
- 41:38Kennedy takes the low delivery from McNally.
- 41:42Many times you better if you don't want to be deep Wills throwing you had better be able to tunnel somewhere or burrow under a sack.
- 41:49He came across that bag and he let it go for that great double play.
- 41:54One ball to no strikes to third leading it off to the Dodgers long high fly to left and it's got plenty of distance but it's going to hook foul into the upper deck.
- 42:11Baltimore fans a little apprehensive but from our vantage point here there was no question but what it would be a foul ball.
- 42:25Bunted right through that one one ball and two strikes.
- 42:47McNally on the one two to Kennedy curve ball looped out off the right side and dropping back for a second base from Johnson getting that little looper.
- 42:58We will be back on side two to continue the game.
- 43:10Dodgers have now gone through 26 scoreless innings.
- 43:19And our fast approaching a record they would like to reverse and meet a runaway from.
- 43:25Have not scored in the last 26 innings since the third inning of the first game.
- 43:30The series of four consecutive scoreless innings is 28 by the New York Giants staff against the Philadelphia A's in 1905.
- 43:38Dresdale takes ball one.
- 43:40Darns a very fine hitting pitcher.
- 43:46Used many times by the world all-star as a pinch batter McNally works to him.
- 43:51It's a foul right up over our head one and one.
- 43:55They're quick in Dresdale. The word I don't believe was I don't think you'd understood it or understand it if you put it in front of it.
- 44:11One ball one. One out and none on in the third no score.
- 44:15McNally's curveball hit our left side. Aparicio waits for it. Digs it out of his tummy. Throws it in to us.
- 44:26Two down and now Morrie Wills who popped the second base and will stand in.
- 44:31Dodger third inning scoreless ball game.
- 44:35Dodgers looking for their first hitter to have one. Brooks Robinson a single up the middle.
- 44:40They come in very shallow in the outfield and pinch Robinson and Bleffrey in on Snyder and give him off-line.
- 44:55There was a strike. It was called.
- 44:59As an example if you're just tuning in in the first inning when he popped up into shallow center really just nine seconds
- 45:05Aparicio Johnson Snyder and Robinson all could have caught the ball showing you how shallow they play.
- 45:13No balls one strike and there's a copper down toward third. It's backhanded by Brooks Robinson going foul.
- 45:22Baltimore does not deploy at least in this park the shift in the outfield on Wills they did in games one and two
- 45:32which is referred to a lot as the Richie Ashburn shift where they move the left fielder right on the line.
- 45:37He's up there now right handed. If he gets a chance left handed he might swing all the way around.
- 45:42A ball outside one and two.
- 45:45So as a hand batter they figure him to go almost always to left and never to pull and as a right hand batter they defense him in such a way that they're straight away in all department.
- 45:56One ball two strikes.
- 45:59One two pitch up high there and looks like it has a play it's right in behind home plate spins around the mask is off.
- 46:06He's going.
- 46:10Twenty seven.
- 46:13We have been three down and we go out of the bottom of the third Los Angeles.
- 46:18Nothing Baltimore nothing.
- 46:19Joe Garry you know my work gets me around the country a lot wherever I travel someone always says to me.
- 46:26Now I hear you on the radio talking about customer care Chrysler Plymouth dealers.
- 46:30What does customer care really mean.
- 46:33Well I always tell them that customer care means just that Chrysler Plymouth dealers care about their customers as well as their car.
- 46:40There are a lot of dealers who know cars but very few of them know people and cars.
- 46:45And this is Chrysler Plymouth dealers are different.
- 46:48They know how important a friendly greeting can be.
- 46:51They know that people don't like to wait for service and that most people like to be treated like well like people.
- 46:57They treat you as a friend not as a stranger and they see to it that your car services cool with certified service no less.
- 47:04And when you walk out they don't forget important things like thank you.
- 47:08And that's what we mean by the repair.
- 47:10It's a philosophy of doing business that makes all the sense in the world and exclusive at your Chrysler Plymouth dealer.
- 47:17That's why everybody doesn't do business.
- 47:21The third no score in the ballgame Baltimore with one hit and the etch a bar and youth man in the lineup coming up so let's hop right back to Bob etch a bar and one for nine in the series.
- 47:47An average speed for a catcher normally because of the fact they always have to touch down strings before shortening and they're unable to run.
- 47:54Of course he's not very old.
- 47:56You'll get there if he stays long enough.
- 47:58A back down first base.
- 48:00Don Drysdale was over quickly to cover this Roseboro came out but the ball beginning to roll foul to let it go.
- 48:07Strike one.
- 48:08It's all out of time before a catcher will turn from a pacer to a J horse.
- 48:19That's only natural.
- 48:33Don Drysdale trying to come back.
- 48:36In the game the Dodgers must win.
- 48:40And they feel that it can get by Baltimore today that Mr. Kovacs will return the series to Los Angeles.
- 48:48Here's the etch a bar and check topic of all one and one.
- 49:01No score etch a bar leading it off in the Baltimore third swing and a miss on a breaking ball.
- 49:06He looked like he took a little off at one and two.
- 49:18One ball two strikes.
- 49:25Straight away in the outfield and he takes that curve ball he tried to save it but I think it was in the strike zone according to the play John Rice.
- 49:33So Don Drysdale has his second strike out.
- 49:37That'll bring up Dave McNally.
- 49:40Don strike out of course only worth two innings in the first game McNally gets a nice hand.
- 49:52Shallowing up in the outfield to him.
- 49:55He bats unlike he's up there right handed.
- 50:03Drysdale comes in and he's low and outside a ball.
- 50:09One ball and no strikes.
- 50:14Tommy Davis on left Willie Davis in center Lou Johnson in right.
- 50:18Here's the one oh pitch.
- 50:20Into the dirt low ball two.
- 50:27It's the bottom of the third there's one away.
- 50:30There is no score Orioles in with one hit Dodgers still looking for theirs.
- 50:40Two balls no strikes. Drysdale working out a young McNally sends it on the inside corner for a called strike and it's two and one.
- 50:52Should Drysdale and the Dodgers be victorious today.
- 50:56Two ball one hopper two hopper back to Don on the mound he throws on to Parker Tula.
- 51:05And Kofax on Monday able to do it that would of course be tomorrow.
- 51:11Tuesday would be the travel day and the sixth and seventh if necessary.
- 51:17Would be Dodger Stadium.
- 51:22As their time will be 1 p.m. Eastern Daylight Savings Time.
- 51:26Air time actually at 1245 the game itself at 1 p.m.
- 51:31Pitch is outside a ball one and all.
- 51:43The wind up fan the pitch right through the middle he took it for a strike one and one.
- 51:49California fans of course listening or viewing the games or naturally CDs in the morning.
- 51:55Then when the Eastern broadcasters come out one ball one strike there's a long five ball down the right field line.
- 52:02Lou Johnson hustling over on the warning track right corner and he makes a fair ball catch and then bounces into the protective padding and that retires the side.
- 52:11So it's three up and three down and at the end of free full earnings of play Los Angeles nothing ball the morning.
- 52:22A great new cigarette is born.
- 52:26A new filter cigarette whose very name stands for you.
- 52:31You Camel filters.
- 52:41You Camel filters.
- 52:44This is the one born rich rich in taste with that big camel head start on flavor.
- 52:51Now that great camel heritage of real taste in a great new filter cigarette.
- 52:58No other can compare in flavor and quality to new camel filters.
- 53:04This is the one you want to try.
- 53:08Camel filters the one born rich rich.
- 53:22Is WGY WGFM connected.
- 53:24If you've grown up around here chances are you take Saratoga Vichy for granted.
- 53:29Well don't.
- 53:31What you've been so blase about happens to be one of the most extraordinary natural products in all the world.
- 53:37People send for it from all over.
- 53:39Both rich curious taste and for that remarkably long lived carbonation the Vichy people are always talking.
- 53:47Saratoga Vichy the only mixer we know of that people built a city just to be near.
- 53:53Lee Davis leads off the Dodger fourth this ball game is scarless.
- 53:57McNally the left hander to the left hand Davis and he takes it low ball one.
- 54:05One ball and no strikes outfield around the right a little bit on Davis third baseman Brooks Robbins McNally's delivery slides in and over for a call strike and it's one of them.
- 54:23Lou Johnson the on deck batter one ball one strike to David.
- 54:32Now the one one delivery a swing and a miss one and two.
- 54:36Classified a little bit saying a little while ago about the Dodger fans and all listening to the ball games they'll hear them in the mornings when the Eastern casters come out and play the Dodgers at night.
- 54:49Then Eastern fans get a delightful treat.
- 54:51They hear their game starting at 11 a night and in the morning.
- 54:55Strikeouts when you're so McNally gets his first strikeout and that will be Lou Johnson who filed out to catch your Andy extra baron.
- 55:08Dodgers are one inning away.
- 55:10They don't score here.
- 55:13I'm tying a record of the most innings without scoring in the World Series.
- 55:22They do they love to forget all about McNally works.
- 55:28Thanks.
- 55:30He took a little off his breaking ball that time.
- 55:33Got Lou in front of it.
- 55:39No balls one strike one out none on in the fourth no score.
- 55:44Hard rap in the left.
- 55:47Coming up for this Kurt Bluffery Johnson rounds first in a sudden hurry shrammels to get back in your dad's in headlong adjust does make it.
- 55:54He must have gone up about 15 feet.
- 55:56If Bluffery had bubble that ball he did it on his way to second.
- 56:00But instead as he started to come back as though he lost his footing moment early had to dive back in and now is taking all the infield of Baltimore right off his clothing.
- 56:10Relay for all was bang bang. He got back in safely so the Dodgers get their first hit in game for.
- 56:19Now I started him off with a change curveball got him to swing came back with his hammer and little change speeds on it and sending him to left field like a rocket.
- 56:28Here's Tommy Davis who lined in the right field in the second inning for an hour.
- 56:34Yeah, I feel it away.
- 56:37McNally checks on Lou Johnson the pitch swing and a foul coming straight back.
- 56:42Strike one a bit of a gap between Schneider the center fielder playing straight out and Bluffery who is shading over toward the left field line.
- 56:58No balls one strike.
- 57:04Davey Johnson well over toward second with Boog Powell holding on the runner Lou Johnson.
- 57:09There's a ball down slower third and then going foul.
- 57:13Johnson's all the way around the third practically.
- 57:20Said it took him long enough to get here.
- 57:22He can't see any reason why he shouldn't keep moving them out.
- 57:25No balls and two strikes now as he cuts the diamond.
- 57:28There is no score.
- 57:29We're in the top half of the fourth inning Willie Davis opened the frame with a strikeout and then Lou Johnson goes sharply to the left for the Dodgers first hit.
- 57:42Might have heard a round of applause or the young National League back boys a youngster who earlier in his life was very severely burned his hands were burned off even he has hooks.
- 57:52He is wonderful he had his picture taken with the vice president and he can do all sorts of things play golf or he has not allowed the handicap of losing his hands to determine anyway and of course he's a great favorite with Baltimore fans.
- 58:06No balls two strikes here to Tommy Davis Lou Johnson are just by about two strides chopper hip toward short up a ratio gets a bad hop that gets it on to Johnson for one the first race.
- 58:23The short Johnson the power and Tommy Davis is arguing to no avail. No runs a hit no errors and nobody left at the end of three and one half innings Los Angeles nothing Baltimore nothing.
- 58:36We asked the nastiest man in the world to ask some nasty questions about our beer.
- 58:43Go ahead nasty.
- 58:45What is all this eight brewery jazz.
- 58:47We're trying to get calling black label beer into people's hands while it's still fresh and light.
- 58:52How don't con me beer supposed to be all that depends on where it gets old in the aging tanks good but in the can or in the not good there.
- 59:01Well beer slowly surely acquires and an unbear like taste brew masters call this taste ready people call it flat.
- 59:10So what do you do drink all your beer before it leaves the brewery.
- 59:13We brought our breweries closer to the people this way black will spend less time in warehouses and trucks.
- 59:20Hey my brother drives a truck.
- 59:22You've got something against truck. We love trucks.
- 59:24We love trains.
- 59:25We love planes.
- 59:26We just want our beer to spend less time in them.
- 59:29It'll taste better.
- 59:31So when you guys stop beating your wives.
- 59:37The Baltimore pitching staff has tied a World Series pitching record of 28 scoreless innings in World Series play and we'll fill you in more later on.
- 59:58Right now there's a high pop hit up by Russ Snyder. The fever on the second base side shakes his eyes and it's one or two working here.
- 1:00:10Russ Snyder now is open to it.
- 1:00:12Here is Frank Robinson who hit what appeared to be a slider off the end of his back.
- 1:00:16Ripped it out into left field didn't get all of it he wanted and Tommy Davis hauled it in on the warning track.
- 1:00:31The outfield around to the left to Robinson the right hand better.
- 1:00:47Right.
- 1:01:14Robinson and he's single takes it high ball.
- 1:01:19Now Don Drysdale has just tied a record that he didn't want to tie or the most haunted in series competition eight.
- 1:01:27And that was the eight that he's given up her ball hit down toward third bad hop.
- 1:01:32He comes out of his stomach goes across and he's got him in there too. So Frank Robinson is Baltimore a leader.
- 1:01:44On his second series home which is the eight by Don Drysdale.
- 1:01:53Five other pitchers have done that Burley Grimes Charlie Root Allie Reynolds Don Newcomb and now Don Drysdale.
- 1:02:02Here's Boog Powell who is stuck out and moved it inside the ball.
- 1:02:09The ball that Frank Robinson hit appeared to be a waist high fastball right out over the heart of the plate.
- 1:02:15He got all of the wood he wanted on that one and then some.
- 1:02:19He really tore it apart way down the left field.
- 1:02:24Ball to it and had a tendency to go foul and never had a chance.
- 1:02:33Two balls and no strikes two down one to nothing Baltimore in the bottom of the fourth.
- 1:03:03Oh, what a catch by Willie Davis.
- 1:03:11He took a home run away. Well, the inning's one run on a home run by Robinson.
- 1:03:16One hit a spectacular catch and nobody left.
- 1:03:19And at the end of four Baltimore won Los Angeles nothing.
- 1:03:24Here he is again with another story our favorite umpire Nick Frog.
- 1:03:29One night in Pittsburgh, a student known as the eight man on a kind of is not a very dainty performer with the glove.
- 1:03:35That's a ground ball bounce off his chin.
- 1:03:38It raises such a lump that the next day he cannot shave.
- 1:03:42I hear of this and often in my new gelatotic matter razor, which he graciously declines.
- 1:03:47Beaters go feed your guide dog.
- 1:03:51And I reply, the gelatotic matter razor just out has the lightest touch and shaving super stainless steel edges are coiled and sealed inside a cartridge like film in a camera.
- 1:04:03Each edge last week, then flip a lever on a new edge locks in place.
- 1:04:08The gelatotic matter ends blade handling forever.
- 1:04:13Well, the eight man, he gets a perfect shave from the gelatotic matter and does not even cut his bump.
- 1:04:20He says to me, you are a humanitarian eight man.
- 1:04:24I reply, say that on the field and you're out of the game.
- 1:04:31The fever stands in and McNally's in with a strike.
- 1:04:34The fever walked in the second inning and was forced one to nothing.
- 1:04:38Now into the Baltimore leading.
- 1:04:41There's a drive out into centerfield for a solid base hit off a hanging curve ball.
- 1:04:46So the Dodgers have their second hit.
- 1:04:49Ben Scully, they're still buzzing about that sensational catch by Willie Davis.
- 1:04:54I think one nice thing about it is it's the same.
- 1:04:57It's the same man who was called a little league outfielder by some folks for dropping two fly balls and from one to another, I'm sure he got off the hook.
- 1:05:07I am too.
- 1:05:08As we said before, nobody likes to wear horns except four footed animals.
- 1:05:13Here now is Wes Parker, ball outside one and all.
- 1:05:19Not as familiar with the Dodger ball club as Ben would be, closing into a part of their lineup where they might not be able to run and hit or hit and run quite as much.
- 1:05:27But we'll watch the fever nonetheless because you have to pull all stops to get back into this world series.
- 1:05:33Trailing nothing to run here in the top of the fifth.
- 1:05:36McNally, one ball and a strike sends his curve ball to it.
- 1:05:40It appeared he hung his curve balls on the fever and he really ripped it up the middle.
- 1:05:45And he's now up so that this proves that Walter Alston is ready to do anything at this point or any point.
- 1:05:54Two balls and no strikes.
- 1:05:55They'll have to get down to the lineup a little bit before they would bat for Drysdale.
- 1:05:59Two balls and no strikes.
- 1:06:00The look at first to the fever by McNally and this one slides in there at the knees for a call strike one and one.
- 1:06:07Of course, manager Alston is saying and he wants to be ready in the event he has to hit for Don.
- 1:06:12But by the time you get to Don, it's conceivable the Dodgers could be tighter ahead.
- 1:06:17And that again would change the thinking of manager.
- 1:06:21But the big thing in this game is be ready.
- 1:06:23Two balls, a strike.
- 1:06:25Bounce toward third, Bush Robinson off to the left, a fine play.
- 1:06:28On to Johnson double play.
- 1:06:31What a double play.
- 1:06:45Well, we see now why they say that.
- 1:06:48Brooks Robinson is one of the greatest third baseman in baseball.
- 1:06:51He just went out to the left like a cat.
- 1:06:53Stumbled as he came up with the ball, made a perfect throw to Johnson chest high so they could hit that bag dance away and come over to first for the double play.
- 1:07:00And he got it.
- 1:07:01Roseboro takes a call.
- 1:07:02That is the second double play now for Baltimore, whose team led in defense statistics this year.
- 1:07:09And they want to nothing Baltimore two down in the south half of the fifth.
- 1:07:14Strike two is called to Roseboro, a soft curve ball in and over.
- 1:07:18On to.
- 1:07:22If McNally gets out of this inning, the Baltimore pitching staff will a new record of scoreless innings in World Series play twenty nine.
- 1:07:30He is one out away from that.
- 1:07:31Here's the or two pitch breaking ball outside of all of them to start.
- 1:07:39A tremendous homerun by Frank Robinson, his second in the series.
- 1:07:44Deep down the left field.
- 1:07:48And then a great catch.
- 1:07:55Nobody.
- 1:07:57At the end of four and one half innings, Baltimore one.
- 1:08:00That got you.
- 1:08:06And then it got to win you over.
- 1:08:20Follow your heart.

- 1:09:22Baltimore leading here.
- 1:09:23One run, two hits, no errors.
- 1:09:25The Dodgers no runs, two hits, no errors.
- 1:09:27As we now move halfway part of this very thrilling World Series game, game four, the game the Dodgers must win.
- 1:09:34No one knows it better than the man of the building action, the veteran voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Vince Kelly.
- 1:09:40Thank you, Bob.
- 1:09:41And hi, everybody.
- 1:09:42Kurt Bleffery lead it off as Drysdale goes to work in the bottom of the fifth inning and the breaking ball in on the hands ball one.
- 1:09:49Bleffery walked in the second inning, the Orioles a run on the homerun by Frank Robinson, the Dodgers no runs, two hits.
- 1:09:58Bleffery left hand hitting left fielder waiting, Drysdale back with a change over for a strike.
- 1:10:03Kurt likes the fastball and the Dodgers throughout the series have thrown in breaking stuff and changes.
- 1:10:09Drysdale has done both in the count one and one.
- 1:10:12Don comes back to the plate, fastball, swung out and missed strike two.
- 1:10:17The infield swung around towards first and the outfielder right.
- 1:10:21And for Drysdale, this could be his last inning of work.
- 1:10:25He is due to bat second when the Dodgers in the sixth inning.
- 1:10:28One nothing Baltimore in the bottom of the fifth.
- 1:10:33Drysdale reading, setting a target.
- 1:10:36Drysdale has walked one through four innings.
- 1:10:38Fastball is down and away.
- 1:10:40Ball two, two and two.
- 1:10:43Drysdale has struck out two.
- 1:10:46Dave McNally has struck out two.
- 1:10:49Walk one allowed two singles.
- 1:10:51And of course the defensive play by Willie Davis, goal tending to take a home run away from Johnny Powell.
- 1:10:57Two, two pitch on the way.
- 1:10:58Curve ball and a high fly ball to right field.
- 1:11:01It's down the line.
- 1:11:02LaFever out and Johnson in.
- 1:11:03And Lew on the line makes the catch and fair ground.
- 1:11:07So curve fly ball to Lew Johnson in the right field corner.
- 1:11:10One away.
- 1:11:11And the batter will be Dave Johnson.
- 1:11:16Dave Johnson fourth series.
- 1:11:18Hit into a double play in the second inning.
- 1:11:21Right hand hitting second baseman who has been involved in double plays for the Bergs.
- 1:11:27Baltimore with two double plays today, three in the last two days.
- 1:11:31Johnson takes his strike.
- 1:11:33And Baltimore has turned in four in the series.
- 1:11:360-1 account to Dave Johnson.
- 1:11:38One out on the fifth, one to nothing Baltimore.
- 1:11:41Drives back to the plate.
- 1:11:43Fast ball, full foul outside of third to Billy Hunter.
- 1:11:460-2.
- 1:11:47Billy who was once sold to the St. Louis Browns by the Dodgers, reported $75,000.
- 1:11:53He still has pretty good hands.
- 1:11:550-2.
- 1:11:57Andy Barron on deck.
- 1:12:03At no time in the series have the Dodgers been out in front.
- 1:12:06They have been behind National Anthem almost of the first game.
- 1:12:11The strike shoot pitch, the curve ball hit in the air to left center.
- 1:12:14Tommy Davis coming.
- 1:12:15He's there to make the catch.
- 1:12:19Well, maybe not quite.
- 1:12:21And the batter will be Andy Etchibarron.
- 1:12:32Andy Etchibarron, right hand hitting catcher, struck out in the third inning.
- 1:12:35He's 0-1.
- 1:12:37If you are interested in ballistics on Frank Robinson's home run,
- 1:12:41a fan 10 rows from the top caught it.
- 1:12:45The pitch to Etchibarron, breaking ball down and away, one and 0.
- 1:12:49When the Dodgers hit in the sixth, they are due to send up John Kennedy, Don Drysdale, and Maury Will.
- 1:12:57Drysdale back to work.
- 1:12:59In the right hand is one 0 pitch, fast ball on the outside corner for a strike.
- 1:13:03He is a much better pitcher than he was in the first game of the series,
- 1:13:07but he has still been bitten by the home run ball,
- 1:13:09and McNally has been superb through five innings.
- 1:13:131-1 pitch, fast ball fouled away.
- 1:13:15He didn't get around on it.
- 1:13:16One and 2.
- 1:13:17The height of the fire fence is 7 feet.
- 1:13:22One and 2, the count to Andy Etchibarron from nearby Los Angeles in La Fuente.
- 1:13:30Right hand hit.
- 1:13:34Drysdale reading Roseboro.
- 1:13:35Now Don's one-two pitch on the way.
- 1:13:37Fast ball, a half swing, strike three call.
- 1:13:40So Baltimore out in order in the fifth.
- 1:13:42And the score at the end of five innings of play.
- 1:13:45Baltimore 1 and the Dodgers nothing.
- 1:13:50A great new filter cigarette is born.
- 1:13:56Born camel.
- 1:14:01New camel filters.
- 1:14:12New counters.
- 1:14:14This is the one born rich, rich in taste, with that big camel head start on flavor.
- 1:14:22Now that great camel head of real taste comes to you in a great new filter cigarette.
- 1:14:28No other can compare in flavor.
- 1:14:30No other can compare in quality to new camel filters.
- 1:14:35This is the one you'll want to try.
- 1:14:38Try camel filters, the one born rich.
- 1:14:48We pause 30 seconds for station identification.
- 1:14:52This is WGY, WGFM, Schenectady.
- 1:14:57Your radio has not gone cuckoo.
- 1:14:59That's merely the sound of Saratoga Vichy and its long lasting fizz.
- 1:15:04The story behind fizz is even stranger than the sound.
- 1:15:07You see, nature carbonates Saratoga Vichy, giving it a perky little to incredible staying power.
- 1:15:15It keeps drinks fresh far longer than club soda or any of the imitation vichys.
- 1:15:21Saratoga, the authentic vichy in the yellow label.
- 1:15:28On Drysdale in the on deck circle and the 12s, McNally's first pitch is punched down the right field line,
- 1:15:33but slicing as she goes in the corner foul and back into the lower deck.
- 1:15:370 and 1.
- 1:15:38Bill Rigan loosening up in the Dodger bullpen and since he and everybody else in the ballpark can see Drysdale in the on deck circle,
- 1:15:47you wonder whether Phil is just throwing on his own.
- 1:15:50We'll see.
- 1:15:51Kennedy had a towering foul in the upper left field in the third inning, but then popped out.
- 1:15:570 and 1 to John.
- 1:16:00He's 0 for 4 in the series.
- 1:16:02Dave McNally, let her into his windup and the strike one pitch.
- 1:16:06Breaking ball, swung on and missed 0 and 2.
- 1:16:09I think that was his slip pitch.
- 1:16:11McNally with a three quarter move, fast ball, curve ball, and a good slip pitch.
- 1:16:19He has walked one man for five innings.
- 1:16:22In direct contrast to the five he walked in two and a third at Dodger Stadium.
- 1:16:27In the strike two pitch, fast ball outside just to show it to Kennedy, 1 and 2.
- 1:16:36McNally, a thirder in the regular season, he lost 6.
- 1:16:42One, two pitch on the way.
- 1:16:44Breaking ball, lined to left for a base hit.
- 1:16:46McNally making a bad pitch and he knew it.
- 1:16:48He kicked it to dirt.
- 1:16:49He got the ball up on Kennedy and John hung it into that field.
- 1:16:54So the Dodgers get the leadoff man on for the second time in a row as LaFever opened in the fifth inning with a single.
- 1:17:03It's trailing 1 to nothing.
- 1:17:04That is a favorite weapon of theirs.
- 1:17:07Now the Drysdale comes up to the plate.
- 1:17:09Phil Regan stops throwing in the bullpen.
- 1:17:11John is a good hitter.
- 1:17:13However, the birds expect him to bunt.
- 1:17:16Brooks Robinson up inside the bag at third.
- 1:17:18Powell ready to push off the bag at first.
- 1:17:20The curve is a strike.
- 1:17:21Go and 1.
- 1:17:25With both Brooks Robinson and Johnny pudging the plate.
- 1:17:30Drysdale will not have much room to drop the bunt and he backs out and has another look at Preston Gomez.
- 1:17:36Elmore a run on two hits.
- 1:17:37The Dodgers no runs on three hits.
- 1:17:40We're in the sixth inning, nobody out.
- 1:17:42The pitch to Drysdale, he flicks at it and misses for a strike.
- 1:17:46Now to hole Owen Tis.
- 1:17:50The Don leaning on his bat hand on his left hip staring down at Preston Gomez.
- 1:17:55And we'll see whether Walter Austin wants him to try and bunt 0 and 2.
- 1:18:02If you make a mistake on Drysdale, particularly if you get the pitch up on him above the belt, he is liable to long ball you.
- 1:18:08And of course, McNally, Schaft looks over at first.
- 1:18:11Back he comes high and away.
- 1:18:13Ball 1, 1 and 2.
- 1:18:15Baltimore figuring that with two strikes Drysdale will not bunt.
- 1:18:18So Brooks Robin will depth.
- 1:18:20Powell continues to hole Kennedy.
- 1:18:22John is not a particular base dealing threat.
- 1:18:28McNally left foot on the rubber has a look at you Baron.
- 1:18:31He outfields straight away on Drysdale.
- 1:18:35McNally's one hits outside and he took a little off at that time and almost aimed it.
- 1:18:40McCount 2 and 2.
- 1:18:41Pound OO's and R's.
- 1:18:43John Rice of the Indian League calling balls and strikes.
- 1:18:50We're in the sixth inning.
- 1:18:52Baltimore 1 on the Frank Robinson's home run.
- 1:18:54His second of the series and his 51st of the year.
- 1:18:57If you want to count the 49 he hit during the regular season.
- 1:19:012-2 pitch on the way.
- 1:19:03Fast ball just low and that's the one he wanted.
- 1:19:05McNally angry.
- 1:19:07He thought he had it at the knees with it and it's 3 and 2.
- 1:19:11Now we'll see if the Dodgers play run and hit.
- 1:19:14Kennedy the runner and Drysdale both checking with goal.
- 1:19:18McNally visibly upset.
- 1:19:21On that 2-2 pitch he tried to sneak the fast ball over at the knees and miss.
- 1:19:27Here's a very big pitch now.
- 1:19:29We'll see what develops.
- 1:19:33Kennedy at first.
- 1:19:34How McNally said.
- 1:19:36Checking.
- 1:19:37Kennedy goes.
- 1:19:38The pitch is swung on and missed.
- 1:19:39Etchibar juggles.
- 1:19:41Throw as they get it.
- 1:19:53And the Etchibar on the strike three juggles the ball momentarily.
- 1:19:58Was still able to throw a strike to nab the sliding Kennedy.
- 1:20:03A big play.
- 1:20:05K-2-4 if you're keeping score.
- 1:20:07And just like that two out on the sixth.
- 1:20:12The Dodgers now have been unable to get a man to second base.
- 1:20:18And here is Maury Wills who popped up and fouled out 0 for 2.
- 1:20:25McNally fast ball is hit to Brooks Robinson on one hop and Brooks throws him out.
- 1:20:30For the Dodgers in the sixth inning no runs one hit.
- 1:20:33Nobody left.
- 1:20:34And at the end of five and a half innings Baltimore won and the Dodgers nothing.
- 1:20:39Insurance.
- 1:20:40Tax statement.
- 1:20:41Employee tag.
- 1:20:42I think that does it.
- 1:20:44Now if you raise your right hand and repeat after me.
- 1:20:47Repeat after you what?
- 1:20:49The Carling Philosopher.
- 1:20:50Carling what?
- 1:20:51Philosopher.
- 1:20:52Time the maker of beer.
- 1:20:54Time the maker of beer.

- 1:21:10Even a great beer like yours.

- 1:21:14Would slowly, surely lose the taste that made it great.
- 1:21:17Would slowly, surely lose the taste that made it great.
- 1:21:20Good.
- 1:21:21This is why we brew Black Label.
- 1:21:24Good.
- 1:21:25This is why you brew Black Label.
- 1:21:27In eight breweries around the country.
- 1:21:30In eight breweries around the country.
- 1:21:32Hired, congratulations.
- 1:21:33You're hired, congratulations.
- 1:21:36With Ben Scully by Prince Figgins here from Memorial Stadium in Baltimore.
- 1:21:41Where the Orioles have whips no errors, the Dodgers no runs, three hits and no errors.
- 1:21:46They have now gone through 30 consecutive innings without a score.
- 1:21:50And the Baltimore defense have pulled off three straight double plays.
- 1:21:54And they have Sparkle behind McNally who leads it off and here's Ben.
- 1:21:59Don Drysdale working on his opposing pitcher Dave McNally.
- 1:22:02Right hand batter, fouls a fastball off to the right 0-1.
- 1:22:05McCloud giving McNally a well-dragged round of applause.
- 1:22:08Dave has been right on the plate all day.
- 1:22:11Walked just one man and what balls the Dodgers have hit with men on base of...
- 1:22:160-1 to count to Dave.
- 1:22:18Hit back to Drysdale in the third inning.
- 1:22:22Outfield shades him a little bit right field.
- 1:22:25The strike one to John Noy overhand curve for a strike in the count 0-1-2.
- 1:22:33One run, two hits for Baltimore.
- 1:22:35No runs, three hits for the Dodgers.
- 1:22:38Sparkling play on both sides.
- 1:22:40Here's John Noy, curve ball over, strike three called.
- 1:22:43So McNally goes down on three for Don Drysdale's fourth strikeout.
- 1:22:49And the leadoff man, Luis Aparicio.
- 1:22:55Aparicio, right hand hitting shortstop, fouled out to Johnsboro in the first inning.
- 1:23:00Hit a high twisting fly ball down the right field line in the third.
- 1:23:03And Lou Johnson went right against the boards to make the catch.
- 1:23:08So Aparicio is 0-2. He is 3-4-15 in the series.
- 1:23:13Drysdale ready, starts him off with a fastball.
- 1:23:15It's lined to center for a pitch.
- 1:23:17Willie Davis plays it on a hop and gets it back in.
- 1:23:26That is hippie for Baltimore.
- 1:23:28It is interesting to know the Orioles have gotten six hits in two.
- 1:23:35They won one, one to nothing. They're leading the other one to nothing.
- 1:23:40Russ Snyder tried and actually hit the ball twice with his bat in the first inning.
- 1:23:46That end popped up in the fourth.
- 1:23:48So the center fielder is open one for five.
- 1:23:53Drysdale set at the bell, turns and throws to first, driving Aparicio back.
- 1:23:59There has been a goal invasion in the series at Maury Wills.
- 1:24:02We'll see now whether Aparicio might be at the front end of a play as Drysdale is up on top and set.
- 1:24:09The pitch to Snyder, a strike.
- 1:24:12All in one to count.
- 1:24:14In the Dodger both Ben Rynoski and Phil Regan begin to loosen up.
- 1:24:21Rynoski to left-handed.
- 1:24:24On deck, Frank Robinson.
- 1:24:27One out, six in, one nothing Baltimore.
- 1:24:30Drysdale set at the belt, delivers and it's away, one and one.
- 1:24:34Light breeze blowing from the right field corner, slamming over to left.
- 1:24:38Not really hard enough to affect a fly ball.
- 1:24:42Kennedy is up a couple of steps, about even with the baguette third.
- 1:24:46The outfield bounce straight away.
- 1:24:48Although, Lou Johnson gives the left-handed Snyder most of the right field corners.
- 1:24:54Drysdale's one-one pitch.
- 1:24:55Aparicio goes a pitcher down to Wills.
- 1:24:57They've got him hung up.
- 1:24:58Wills to Parker, he's tagged out.
- 1:25:02So Aparicio going on a pitch out and it went two-six-three from Roseboro to Wills.
- 1:25:07Parker.
- 1:25:12So we still have only one stolen base in the series.
- 1:25:18To tie and upset, Roseboro, Snyder waved at the ball and he's charged with as many as one and two.
- 1:25:29Two out, six in, one nothing Baltimore.
- 1:25:33When the Dodgers hit in the seventh, if you are not keeping score, Willie Davis, Lou Johnson and Tommy Davis.
- 1:25:40Drysdale ended up one-two pitch, fastball hit back to the box.
- 1:25:43Don Hazard just lobs to Parker and that'll do it.
- 1:25:46In the sixth inning for Baltimore, no runs are hit, no play left.
- 1:25:49And at the end of sixth, Baltimore one, the Dodgers nothing.
- 1:25:56Two for bottle, what it's got to make two heads up handsome.
- 1:26:11Two for bottle, to let heads up grooms like water only better.
- 1:26:15Won't dry, won't splash you down.
- 1:26:17So men, take the pledge, use heads up.
- 1:26:24We will continue this game on the next cassette.
- 1:26:54Seventh inning, one to nothing in favor of Baltimore.
- 1:27:15The Bears with a run on three hits, no errors.
- 1:27:17The Dodgers no runs, three hits and no errors.
- 1:27:20For the Dodgers, Willie Davis, Lou Johnson and Tommy Davis.
- 1:27:25Dave McNally comes to the play to drag bunt attempt dismissed by Willie in the count of one.
- 1:27:30This rounded to Johnny Powell and struck out and made the defensive play on Powell's bid for a home run in the fourth inning.
- 1:27:38Willie is one in the series, fouls it away, oh and two.
- 1:27:49Standing back of the rubber now looks into Etchibar and the outfield fanned out on Willie.
- 1:28:04The strike two pitch on the way, hit over the head of Aparicio into left center, but right there is Bleffery to make the catch for the hour.
- 1:28:11Little fly ball, one out. He was jammed.
- 1:28:14Lou Johnson, Lou Johnson fouled out and singled.
- 1:28:20He's one for two, but was cut down as Tommy Davis hit into the double play in the fourth.
- 1:28:26The Birds have come up with three double plays today, four double play teams played here and five double plays in the series.
- 1:28:36And they lead one nothing on three hits here in the.
- 1:28:39Johnson a bunt in the air foul, Etchibar and Glovesill.
- 1:28:52So quickly two out in the seventh inning, Bowen the Dodgers nothing and Tommy Davis coming up.
- 1:28:58And for the Dodgers, they have now set a record and it is just getting longer and longer.
- 1:29:05They held the score in their last 30 and two thirds innings.
- 1:29:12Tommy Davis lined out to right grounded into a double play, 0 for 2.
- 1:29:19McNally into his wind up and delivers and the pitch of Tommy's right foot ball one.
- 1:29:31Tom right hand hitting left fielder.
- 1:29:34He's one 0 pitch on the way, swung on and missed one and one.
- 1:29:38Tom National League's batting champion in 1962 and in 1963.
- 1:29:43And of course suffered their broken leg that kept him out of last festivities.
- 1:29:51One and one to Tommy Davis as McNally in with Etchibar.
- 1:29:57Dave comes back one one fastball and he jammed him and he popped it up.
- 1:30:01Johnny Powell looks over at Dave Johnson. It's the second baseman for the cat.
- 1:30:06And the Dodgers roll over quietly in the seventh inning.
- 1:30:09And at the end of six and a half innings of play, it's Baltimore one, the Dodgers nothing.
- 1:30:15This is Joe Garagio. Rules, rules. Sometimes you form and sometimes you end them.
- 1:30:21But the world of sport would not exist without them.
- 1:30:24The rule book of a sport isn't just a set of laws made to be broken.
- 1:30:28It's common courtesy. And if they aren't observed, the game would be chaos.
- 1:30:32And it's true in most everything we do, like driving, traffic based on common courtesy.
- 1:30:38And it's even true in business.
- 1:30:40The best businesses are run by the rules of courtesy, like your Chrysler Plymouth dealer.
- 1:30:45He calls his rule book customer care. What's that mean?
- 1:30:49Well, it means when you bring your car in for service, he's nice to you.
- 1:30:53And courtesy is observed. Why? Well, because he wants you to come back.
- 1:30:58But he doesn't base his business on bedside manner alone.
- 1:31:01He's got certified service, factory trained mechanics using genuine Mopar Chrysler parts.
- 1:31:07And fix only what needs to be fixed.
- 1:31:09So if you're best service in the book, see the guys who play by the rules with customer care.
- 1:31:14You're Chrysler Plymouth dealer.
- 1:31:17The last president of the United States as the guest to the Baltimore management and himself a Nevada American League fan
- 1:31:24and basically a Minnesota twin fan is standing up to stretch as they're ready to move it out.
- 1:31:29It's the Orioles. One run, three hits, no errors.
- 1:31:32The Dodgers 0-3 and 0 into the bottom of the seventh and tenth.
- 1:31:35All right, Bob. It'll be Frank Robinson who put the birds on the boards with his home run in the fourth inning.
- 1:31:41And that's the story. One to nothing, Baltimore.
- 1:31:43Great pitching duel between Don Drysdale and Dave McNally.
- 1:31:47The fastball outside ball one, one and oh.
- 1:31:50Frank Robinson left and then hit one out.
- 1:31:54It'll be followed by Brooks Robinson and then Johnny Powell.
- 1:31:58Roseboro wigwagging sign to the mound and Drysdale comes back with a breaking ball at his low.
- 1:32:05As Robinson started his swing, he held up.
- 1:32:08And John Rice did not commit himself in the count two and oh.
- 1:32:11The Dodgers are suddenly running out of time.
- 1:32:17Pouch left to them.
- 1:32:19Drysdale is due to bat fifth when the Dodgers hit in the eighth inning.
- 1:32:26Don into his windup and the two pitch on the way.
- 1:32:28Soft curve fouled away. Robinson way out in front of it.
- 1:32:32Hitted off the end of the stick upstairs to the right.
- 1:32:38If you are throwing Frank Robinson a fastball, you throw it one of two places, either way inside the knuckles or so far outside that he can't get it.
- 1:32:47But Drysdale got a fastball over the heart of the plate and he hit it out in the inning.
- 1:32:51Two one pitch, breaking ball, swung on and missed and the bat goes to the bat rack.
- 1:32:56Two and two. So Drysdale has given Frank Robinson nothing but break here in the seventh inning.
- 1:33:06Now played umpire John Rice saying something to Frank Robinson.
- 1:33:14Robbie does not use any tape on the handle of the bat to get it.
- 1:33:18So he just picks up some dirt.
- 1:33:20A run on three hits for Baltimore, no runs three hits for the Dodgers in the bottom of the seventh inning.
- 1:33:26It has been quite a game.
- 1:33:28The Orioles have left one man on base and so have the Dodgers.
- 1:33:32Curved ball got him swinging so all breaking stuff is a Frank Robinson one away.
- 1:33:41Five strikeouts for Don Drysdale.
- 1:33:44And here is Brooks Robinson getting a well deserved round of applause for the great play he made on West Parker's ground ball in the fifth inning.
- 1:33:54Loosening up just in case in the Baltimore bullpen right hander Stu Miller.
- 1:34:00Drysdale's fastball four one.
- 1:34:04Brooks Robinson single to center in the second inning. Ground to the third and the fourth. One for two.
- 1:34:11Drysdale comes back to him one oh. Fastball hit to the left of Wills.
- 1:34:15Morrie over grabs it at the belt and flips to Parker for the out.
- 1:34:22Here is Johnny Powell.
- 1:34:28Struck out in the second inning and hit the towering smash to dead center.
- 1:34:33It is four ten here at.
- 1:34:35Willie Davis went to the fence was all set to coil and leap and the breeze blew it a good five or six feet to his life.
- 1:34:43So then Willie had to go over to and leap and was able to spear it.
- 1:34:50Drysdale ready in the pitch to Powell. Change up hit off the fist the middle.
- 1:34:55So Powell singles to center.
- 1:34:58Willie Davis gets it back in an hour.
- 1:35:04So with two out a single by Johnny Powell and the batter the left hand hitting left fielder Carpere.
- 1:35:14For Drysdale he's allowed four hits.
- 1:35:19Bluffery has walked and fly to right. Quite a game. Each side with one man left on base.
- 1:35:27Drysdale turns on the rubber up on top now and set at the belt. They're not going to hold Powell.
- 1:35:32The fastball is low ball one.
- 1:35:35The understatement of the year would be to say the Dodgers do not expect Powell to try to steal.
- 1:35:44Want to know the count?
- 1:35:48Drysdale again set and the one old pitch to Bluffery fastball again ball two.
- 1:36:02On deck the right hand hitting second baseman Dave Johnson.
- 1:36:09Run four hits no errors for Baltimore. One left. No runs three hits no errors for the Dodgers. One left.
- 1:36:17Drysdale took off his cap gazed out towards Santa Fe for a moment. Now back to the wars.
- 1:36:25Two and all. Bluffery.
- 1:36:27Infield swung way around to first with LaFever playing a deep second base.
- 1:36:32Drysdale's two old pitch fastball over for a strike. Two and one.
- 1:36:36So in the inning all breaking stuff to Frank Robinson all fastballs to Kurt Bluffery.
- 1:36:45Parker going steady with the foul line about three feet back of the bag at first.
- 1:36:50Drysdale to Bluffery and it's swung on and missed strike two.
- 1:36:55Two and two.
- 1:36:57In the eighth inning the Dodgers will have more fever. West Parker and Johnny Roseborough.
- 1:37:10Drysdale peers into Roseborough Bluffery waiting. Now Don is up on top of backward glance at Powell and two pitch fastball fouled away.
- 1:37:26The only run of the ball game in the fourth inning is Frank Robinson hit a Don Drysdale fastball way back into the left field seat.
- 1:37:33His second home series both against Drysdale.
- 1:37:37And for Frank Robinson he's hit 51.
- 1:37:43Two two pitch to Bluffery. Curveball hit in the air to right field. It's playable.
- 1:37:48Lou Johnson is there waiting and waiting and makes the catch.
- 1:37:52So in the seventh of Baltimore no runs one hit a man left.
- 1:37:56And the score at the end Baltimore one the Dodgers nothing.
- 1:38:00Wow wow wow wow.
- 1:38:08Winston tastes good.
- 1:38:16Luck your cigarette should.
- 1:38:34I would.
- 1:38:53Winston tastes good like your cigarette should make your cigarette Winston.
- 1:39:05You know priority yesterday there had been three hundred and sixty eight World Series games and only two decided one nothing by home runs.
- 1:39:13Now there might be two more back to back yesterday and the fewest hits is twenty two in a series of the Dodgers right now only have fifteen.
- 1:39:22So there are three personal records going on here.
- 1:39:25All right Bob it'll be Jimmy LeFevre to lead it off followed by West Parker and then Johnny Roseboro.
- 1:39:31Eighth inning one nothing Baltimore change up swung on and miss LeFevre out in front of it.
- 1:39:36Switch hitting second baseman batting right hand. He has walked and single.
- 1:39:46McNally comes back to the playdough one and mid as he appeared to turn that over a little bit.
- 1:39:51Almost like a screwball one and one Dave McNally has limited the Dodgers to three hits all singles and has not allowed a man to get the second base through seven innings.
- 1:40:03The one one pitch whack foul third one hop at kangaroos up into the lower deck one and two.
- 1:40:13The Fever series has two hits in eleven at bats for the Dodgers. Lou Johnson has the most hits and has four.
- 1:40:26Here's the one two pitch taken low and inside ball to two and two Baltimore a defensive measure here in the eighth inning.
- 1:40:34Paul Blair now in Sutterfield.
- 1:40:36Kurt Bluffery comes out and Russ Snyder moves over to left. Rekeeping score football Blair and Kurt Bluffery's fun.
- 1:40:46Two two pitch to Jim LeFevre fastball high started to go after it and held out three and two.
- 1:40:55The Dodgers trail since the fourth have gotten the leadoff man on base in the fifth inning and again in the sixth.
- 1:41:04However each time the following man hit into or missed into a double play as it turned out with Drysdale.
- 1:41:12Three two pitch fastball hit in the air to Sutterfield back goes Blair away back to the track to the fence leaps up and hits.
- 1:41:35Paul Blair who was just put into the game by Hank Bauer Sutterfield made the perfect play as he went straight to the fence turn timed his leap and hauled it in.
- 1:41:46Not quite as spectacular as Willie Davis catch but now in the waning moments of the ballgame it appears even bigger.
- 1:41:55Still one nothing Baltimore and Parker fouls it away.
- 1:42:00A fine play by Paul Blair and Sutterfield where Powell's ball was really kissed that was not of LeFevre's better bolts even though he hit it that far.
- 1:42:16The strike one pitch on the way to Parker swung and that was the slip pitch and West was way out in front of it oh and two.
- 1:42:24And West like many of the Dodgers now appearing to be pressing and high and away.
- 1:42:31Parker robbed of a hit by Brooks Robinson.
- 1:42:34Next one is low ball one.
- 1:42:38The Dodgers of course now have only five outs left to them with one out.
- 1:42:50McNally stands back of the rubber looks in to get his sign.
- 1:42:55Left hand to Ruddy and the one two pitch on the way.
- 1:42:58High chopper down to third baseman Robinson Brooks gloves it out.
- 1:43:09The two out in the eighth inning.
- 1:43:11Baltimore is nothing and the left hand hitting catcher Johnny Roseborough coming up to the plate.
- 1:43:16Roseborough fly to right and struck out it's been a long series for Johnny's one for thirteen.
- 1:43:25Willie Davis has had the longest seer for fifteen.
- 1:43:29Pitch hit foul down the right field line oh and one.
- 1:43:37One run four hits and no errors for Baltimore the run a homerun by Frank Robinson in the fourth inning.
- 1:43:43No runs three hits and no the Dodgers.
- 1:43:47We're in the eighth two out.
- 1:44:02McNally checking with that you baron now Dave delivers fastball away one and one.
- 1:44:08Roseborough basically low ball hitter but John with bad hands ever since the last two months of the season and painfully sore right.
- 1:44:21Blair shades him slightly towards right center one one pitch on the way a little high up around two and one.
- 1:44:30Paid attendance today fifty four thousand four hundred and fifty eight so we have more here actually thirteen more than we had yesterday.
- 1:44:43Doing one account to Johnny Roseborough McNally comes back to the plate fastball grounded down to Dave Johnson the second baseman up with a cleanly and throws him out.
- 1:44:56The Dodgers are out in order again eight in a row retired by McNally and the end of seven and a half innings of play.
- 1:45:02Baltimore one and the Dodgers nothing.
- 1:45:06You never know how huge this country is.
- 1:45:09You try to ship beer across it.
- 1:45:13It is so huge.
- 1:45:16Your beer is in a huge warehouse.
- 1:45:19You load these huge trucks right away.
- 1:45:24Huge traffic jams and then the roads.
- 1:45:28You should see the roads.
- 1:45:31They are so long.
- 1:45:35Sooner or later your beer starts to lose the taste that made it great.
- 1:45:40The Carling Black label people couldn't stand still for that.
- 1:45:44Came down by a brewery here.
- 1:45:46Build a brewery there.
- 1:45:48Rebuild a brewery somewhere else.
- 1:45:50Think of it. Eight great breweries brewing one great beer.
- 1:45:55Carling Black label.
- 1:45:59It sort of takes your breath away.
- 1:46:10Well Big D has only one thing you can look forward to and that's to stop Baltimore here in the ninth inning.
- 1:46:18And then go right on and hope that somehow or other his team can scramble to get him back in the game with a tie.
- 1:46:24Or it's one to nothing in a fantastic pitching performance.
- 1:46:28Bottom of the eighth inning one to nothing Baltimore.
- 1:46:32Dave Johnson and the Etchibar and Pitchave McNally.
- 1:46:36Drysdale ready starts him with a fastball away ball one.
- 1:46:40Dave Johnson grounded into a double eye to left.
- 1:46:43Right hand hitting second baseman over two.
- 1:46:45A run on four hits for Baltimore. No runs three hits for the Dodgers.
- 1:46:49Drysdale's fastball out and low ball two.
- 1:46:53The Dodgers today cannot be accused of leaving men on base.
- 1:46:59They have left one man on base in eight innings.
- 1:47:03Baltimore leaving two.
- 1:47:08Ball pitch on the way. Fastball over for a strike in the count two and one.
- 1:47:19Two and one. The count to Dave Johnson.
- 1:47:27Drysdale into his windup and the two one pitch on the way. Fastball is low. Ball three. Three and one.
- 1:47:41Johnson is four for thirteen.
- 1:47:46Dave waiting. Drysdale ready in the three one pitch.
- 1:47:49Fast for the bat. A fly ball to shallow right. Lou Johnson coming in a hurry and makes the catch.
- 1:47:55So Dave Johnson a fly ball to shallow right. One away.
- 1:48:02Drysdale has made one bad pitch. One pitch he'd like to get back. Second chance.
- 1:48:08That was the fastball to Frank Robinson out over the plate.
- 1:48:11And Robbie hit it deep into the left field seats.
- 1:48:14And that's the story that along with the tremendous pitch performance of left-hander Dave McNally.
- 1:48:20Here's Andy Etchibar and he struck out twice today.
- 1:48:24The ball comes to him with a curve, bonnet in the air.
- 1:48:27Parker gloves it for the out. In fair ground says first baseman Paramil Steiner.
- 1:48:34And now an ovation building for Baltimore left-hander Dave McNally.
- 1:48:55McNally right hand batter. Drysdale fastball is swung on and missed on one.
- 1:49:00Davis hit back to the box and struck out.
- 1:49:06Two out. Bottom of the eighth. Baltimore won the Dodgers nothing.
- 1:49:10In the ninth the Dodgers are due to send up Kennedy Drysdale.
- 1:49:14Fastball is low. Ball one. One and one.
- 1:49:19With McNally going you think of possible right-handed pinch hitters.
- 1:49:23You have Dick Stewart, Al Ferrara, Jeff Torborg, Nate Oliver and switch hitter Jim Gilliam.
- 1:49:29Slow curve is popped up. Wills goes out, turns now and makes the catch.
- 1:49:35The Baltimore out in order in the eighth inning and the score at the end of eighth.
- 1:49:40Ball one and the Dodgers nothing.
- 1:49:44And now here's our favorite umpire Nick Crone. Another anecdote.
- 1:49:49A particular baseman in our league has what we call an early foot.
- 1:49:53He is also open and friendly.
- 1:49:55One day he greets me with say how may I ask is your dear mother.
- 1:50:00My mother was fine I answer and she told me to tell you to keep your flag.
- 1:50:05He does not phase. He tries again with.
- 1:50:08They say you discovered a terrific new razor. They say write thy reply.
- 1:50:13It's down the market. The Gillette Tic-Matic. It ends blade handling forever.
- 1:50:18Since super stainless steel is unquilled and sealed inside a cartridge like film and a camera.
- 1:50:24Each edge lasts about a week.
- 1:50:27Flip a lever and a wedge locks in place.
- 1:50:30The Gillette Tic-Matic ends the beard but very, very light against the skin.
- 1:50:35Try it. Well next road trip we will.
- 1:50:39Hey ump, the Gillette Tic-Matic is the lightest touch and shaving. You were right.
- 1:50:45Early foot I rejoin. I am never wrong.
- 1:50:49Well as it goes now the Dodgers are down to their last inhalation.
- 1:50:55They are going to have to do it as they send Dick Stewart up there.
- 1:50:58And they will come on with Ferrer in behind him.
- 1:51:01It's into the top half of the Dodgers. No runs, three hits, no errors.
- 1:51:06The Orioles 1, 4 and 0.
- 1:51:09And a fellow who has hit a lot of home runs against Baltimore and then has played in the American League.
- 1:51:14Dick Stewart is going to come up and bat in place of Kennedy and then with Al Ferrer on deck.
- 1:51:20It's do or die but the news there is no question about it.
- 1:51:23Into the top half of the ninth and here is Ben Scully.
- 1:51:26Alright Bob, Dick Stewart, quite a few home runs here at Memorial Stadium in his American League days with the Boston Red Sox.
- 1:51:34Is now asked to go up there and try and rip one for the National League.
- 1:51:38The Stewart right hand hitter, McNally's pitch high and inside, ball one, 1 and 0.
- 1:51:44So the Dodgers come up with Dick Stewart followed by Al Ferraro and then Maury Wells.
- 1:51:49Strange that Dick Stewart who has cut a drift by the New York Mets is now up here trying to hide the future of the Dodgers in the ninth inning of the World Series.
- 1:51:58Passball is swung on and missed, one and one.
- 1:52:01Of course here in Baltimore for every strike and for every out the cheers will get louder and louder.
- 1:52:08And for the Dodgers, time grows shorter.
- 1:52:12One nothing Baltimore in the ninth.
- 1:52:15One one pitch, fastball foul back in on the hands, one and two.
- 1:52:23For the Dodgers this is their 13th World Series and there are people who will remember when this story is completed.
- 1:52:30The Dodger record in their previous 12 World Series they won four and lost eight.
- 1:52:36All four championships under the reigns of manager Walter Alston.
- 1:52:45One and two, the count to Dick Stewart.
- 1:52:47Of course here in Baltimore on this Sunday afternoon they can't wait to holler, the King is dead, long live the King.
- 1:52:53Because the Dodgers champions of last year have three outs left to them.
- 1:52:59Here's the one two pitch in their strike three call.
- 1:53:04Four strikeouts for Dave McNally, one away in thinning.
- 1:53:21Here is Al Ferrara, right hand hitting outfielder.
- 1:53:34Finch hitting for Don Drysler. McNally's curve is lined to center basehead.
- 1:53:39So Ferrara keeps the Dodgers afloat with a single and Nevada will be Maury Wells.
- 1:53:45Four hits for the Dodgers, Nate Oliver will now roll Ferrara.
- 1:53:54Nate Oliver running for Ferrara.
- 1:54:04One run, four hits, no errors for Baltimore.
- 1:54:07No runs, four hits, no errors for the Dodgers.
- 1:54:10And Maury Wells at the plate, he is 0 for 3 today.
- 1:54:15He has one hit in 13 at bats in the series.
- 1:54:19Johnny Powell holding the bag on Nate Oliver.
- 1:54:24And Dave McNally looks in to get his sign.
- 1:54:27The left hand to Ruddy and the pitch to Wells.
- 1:54:30Fast ball, swung on and missed, dropped by Etchibar and Oliver holding it first, 0-1.
- 1:54:35The only run, the home run by Frank Robinson in the fourth inning.
- 1:54:40And now it looms as the tallest mountain in the baseball world as McNally tries to make it stand up.
- 1:54:50McNally belt, looks at Oliver, checks again.
- 1:54:53And the strike one pitch, fast ball low, 1-1.
- 1:54:57Dave of course, trying to make Wills, keep the ball on the ground.
- 1:55:04Brooks Robinson doing a little house keening down there at third base.
- 1:55:09Powell holding the bag on Oliver.
- 1:55:11The outfield relatively shallow, with Paul Blair particularly so in center.
- 1:55:19Blair of course is up a couple of steps to handle the base hit and try and prevent Oliver to third.
- 1:55:26The 1-1 pitch to Wills, outside and again dropped by Etchibar and Boyle too.
- 1:55:31So Andy's dropped two in a row for a catcher, two and one to count.
- 1:55:43Stuart Miller, Moe Drabowski in the Baltimore bullpen, Phil Regan in the Dodger bullpen,
- 1:55:49and McNally and Wills head to head.
- 1:55:532-1 pitch to Morrie, fast ball high, ball three.
- 1:55:57And now Luis Aparicio going around to Council McNally.
- 1:56:08So Aparicio talking to Dave, McNally worked two and a third innings in the first game.
- 1:56:16And it's a tremendous eight innings today.
- 1:56:20No Dodger through eight innings has been able to get to see this.
- 1:56:283-1 to count to Wills who backs out and picks up a handful of dirt.
- 1:56:33Ninth inning, one out, and Wills also had a peek at Preston Gomez.
- 1:56:38So did base runner Oliver.
- 1:56:40And McNally said, checking.
- 1:56:44Checks, Oliver does not go and the pitch is ball four.
- 1:56:47And so for the first time today, who's have a runner at second,
- 1:56:52it is Nate Oliver and the runner at first, Morrie Wills.
- 1:56:56We will be back on side two to continue the game.
- 1:57:02For Dave McNally, his second walk.
- 1:57:04The other one came to Jimmy LaFever back in the second inning.
- 1:57:13Willie Davis, who is the hungriest of all Dodger hitters, is the batter.
- 1:57:18Willie today, grounded out, struck out, fly to left.
- 1:57:23He has one hit in 15 at bat.
- 1:57:32Willie's base hit left field in the first game against Mo Drabowski.
- 1:57:38Left hand hitting Salofielder.
- 1:57:40McNally in some trouble with one out.
- 1:57:43And a set and delivers, and it's very high.
- 1:57:45A nice save by Etcher Barron, ball one.
- 1:57:49The birds begin to stir.
- 1:57:50Nest Hank Bauer and his pitching coach, Harry Brekeen, have a little chat.
- 1:57:55While Drabowski and Miller heat up back of the left field fence.
- 1:58:03Nate Oliver at second, Morrie Wills at first.
- 1:58:06And nothing Baltimore in the ninth.
- 1:58:11McNally looks into Etcher Barron, who wigwags a sign out to him.
- 1:58:16Left hand is one hole pitch.
- 1:58:17Willie takes a strike, breaking ball.
- 1:58:21One thing in McNally's favor, hard pressed inning.
- 1:58:24He was still behind on the batter.
- 1:58:26He came in with a breaking ball.
- 1:58:30One and one to count.
- 1:58:38The out and the inning, Dick Stewart struck out as a pen for Kennedy.
- 1:58:42Ferrara hitting for Drysdale Singled, and Wills has won.
- 1:58:47One and one to Willie Davis.
- 1:58:50McNally is set, checking, checks again, now works the plate.
- 1:58:54Slow curve, hit in the air to Frank Robinson in right field.
- 1:58:57He goes back and make that in the run as whole.
- 1:59:05And the Dodgers have one out.
- 1:59:17Lou Johnson has four hits in the series.
- 1:59:23McNally is set, he's in the fourth inning.
- 1:59:28And as Johnson comes up to the plate, Harry McKean goes walking out to the
- 1:59:32to make sure number one, McNally remembers how to pitch to him,
- 1:59:36and also to make sure he has enough left.
- 1:59:40Whatever McKean has, McNally, he nods yes.
- 1:59:44Johnson today fouled out in the first inning, single the left field,
- 1:59:48and fouled out trying to bunt in the seventh.
- 1:59:53All right, McKean goes prodding back to the Baltimore dugout.
- 1:59:58One-nothing Baltimore in the ninth inning.
- 2:00:00The Dodgers have not scored a run in 32 and two-thirds consecutive innings.
- 2:00:07Though you talk about a hungry ball club, they are down to the last bite.
- 2:00:14McNally's rattling the rubber, Etchie Barron settles low in the crouch.
- 2:00:19Nate Oliver away from second, Maury Wills for first, and the sun comes out.
- 2:00:24McNally is ready and delivers, and it's swung on and missed.
- 2:00:30Breaking down and away, 0-1.
- 2:00:35Johnny Rice, the American League umpire, cleans off home plate.
- 2:00:40On deck, Tom Davis.
- 2:00:45McNally again looks in to get his son, the Etchie Barron, 0-1 to count to Lou Johnson.
- 2:00:50The left-hander Ruddy checks the runners to strike one pitch.
- 2:00:54Breaking ball from a non-miss, strike two.
- 2:01:10The Lou Johnson with the goals and two strikes is standing in the way of the Baltimore Orioles being champions of the world.
- 2:01:20McNally is set and ready, and the strike two pitch swung on a fly ball to right center.
- 2:01:26It's playable, ball bearing, and waiting. He's got it.
- 2:01:47They are going wild in Baltimore, understandably so, as the birds of mob Dave McNally and Hank Bauer and thousands of fans pour out onto the field,
- 2:01:59and hail to the champs as the Baltimore Orioles knock the ground off the Dodgers' head and become the champions of the world for 1966.
- 2:02:08The final score, Baltimore the Dodgers, nothing.
- 2:02:12We'll be back with the highlights of the fourth game of the World Series right after this message.

- 2:03:16The totals on the ball game, Baltimore, one run, four hits, and no errors.
- 2:03:20They left two men on base. For the Dodgers, no runs, four hits, and no error. Left three men on base.
- 2:03:27The Dodgers shut out again, wind up the series going 33 consecutive scoreless innings.
- 2:03:34The winning pitch, Abe McNally, who could go only two and a third in the first game, and McNally comes back to go all the way.
- 2:03:41Right now, Pandemonium and Joy in the Baltimore dressing room.
- 2:03:45And let's go down there and go with Chuck Thompson.
- 2:03:50Something like this ain't a beer cold.
- 2:03:54The Orioles are the world's champions, and they have come into their clubhouse and now having a meeting from the corner with their manager, Hank Bauer.
- 2:04:00And let's get the first man we can get up here right now.
- 2:04:03Oriole third baseman, Brooks Robinson. There cannot possibly be a happier moment.
- 2:04:07You're a long time for this. It's 1965 when I signed, and it's just great knowing you're the number one team in the world in 1966.
- 2:04:15And I'm real happy to be on this club. And we thought we were going to win when we started this thing.
- 2:04:19And we just got pretty good pitching, and these kids, they pitch like hell, and I'm just happy about it.
- 2:04:24Brooks and you fellas played perfect defensive baseball. You took advantage of every opportunity given to you.
- 2:04:29It was a great win for the Orioles in the American League.
- 2:04:31Thank you very much.
- 2:04:32Congratulations, Brooks Robinson.
- 2:04:34We'll try to pick off a few more of them as they get up here, and we'd also like to get the commissioner of baseball, Commissioner Eckert, if he can come up here.
- 2:04:41Paulie, come on up here if you can for a second, please.
- 2:04:46Here's the young man who had the distinction of making the final out of the game, Paul Blair.
- 2:04:49He won yesterday's ball game with a home run. And Paul, they have kidded you all year long and called you motored mouth.
- 2:04:55They won't let it down. I'm not going to feel the thrill. I can't talk too good right now.
- 2:05:00When the ball was in the air coming down to you, was it bouncing a little bit, Paul?
- 2:05:03No, it wasn't bouncing. I thought all over. We'll hurry up and get here.
- 2:05:06And this is a prize trophy that nobody will take from Paul.
- 2:05:09You never get this ball. Paul from mine.
- 2:05:11Congratulations. A great win for you and the Orioles.
- 2:05:14Thank you.
- 2:05:15Beautiful job. A job well done. Here's the young man who did it, Dave McNally, who pitched the shutout. Dave, in the ninth inning.
- 2:05:21First of all, let me get your breath a little bit. In the ninth inning, I was a little worried as I watched. I thought maybe Hank Bauer was on his way out.
- 2:05:29Any thoughts like that cross your mind?
- 2:05:30No. When two men got out, I thought there might be a chance. I knew Lufthander was coming up and Willie Davis was coming up, and I thought he'd leave me in it for him.
- 2:05:37I knew if I got him out, I would get to Lou Johnson.
- 2:05:40Beautiful defense, wasn't it?
- 2:05:41What pitch was the best one for you today, Dave?
- 2:05:43I think I both pretty good pitchers, and that's what it takes for me to win. I have to have two good pitchers, one to help the other one.
- 2:05:48Another ball?
- 2:05:49A curveball fastball. When I had to get somebody out, I went mostly to my curveball.
- 2:05:51Dave, the Oriole infield played brilliantly behind you today.
- 2:05:54Everybody played brilliantly. Bob Lurge jumped on the fence, caught that ball, and every time somebody got under, they made a good play and got a double play.
- 2:06:00Thank you very much, Dave McAuley. Again, congratulations.
- 2:06:03Thank you, Chuck.
- 2:06:04Let's get the other end right up here. Come on over here.
- 2:06:05Here's the man who's done it, Frank. I don't know whether you've had a chance to collect your thoughts enough to express yourself, but just how does it feel?
- 2:06:13There's no words to express it, Chuck. You're just floating around here now, and you say, great, that really doesn't tell you.
- 2:06:20It tells you true feelings. You know, things just never happens. It only happens once in a lifetime, and I'm glad I was in the right place at the right time.
- 2:06:27Well, Frank, you've come on to great as have you ever had a greater year?
- 2:06:31No, no.
- 2:06:32Well, here's your home run coming up right now on the screen. We're taking a look at it. And there wasn't any doubt in your mind about it being out?
- 2:06:38No, sir.
- 2:06:39Well, Frank Robinson, you've won a triple crown, and I think the baseball will agree with me that you'll become the first player in the history of this valuable player in both the American and the National League.
- 2:06:49Keep my fingers crossed, yes.
- 2:06:50Tell me, Frank, how do you feel about Baltimore?
- 2:06:52Great, great. We went out to win it for the CBA Chuck, and this is a great team. Let me say this is a great pleasure playing with these guys.
- 2:07:00They believe in themselves, and they went out and proved this really proves it. And I'd just like to say it was a great bunch of guys, and it was a real pleasure playing this year with these fellows.
- 2:07:08Frank Robinson, congratulations again, and good luck.
- 2:07:12Thank you.
- 2:07:13Have a nice, easy, cool sort of a winter.
- 2:07:15Thank you.
- 2:07:16We'll be here at the Oriole Clubhouse in just a moment.
- 2:07:24I've just run out.
- 2:07:26You've just run out?
- 2:07:27I'm out of cigarettes.
- 2:07:29Well, try one of mine.
- 2:07:31Try one of yours?
- 2:07:33Sure. Try one of mine.
- 2:07:36Say love. Say love is the best of cigarettes. How refreshing's your taste for you. Say love is the best of cigarettes. All of America's turning to you. When you buy a mess of cigarettes, don't take anything up the best.
- 2:07:58Say love is the best of cigarettes. Open that up, smells all the rest. Try one of mine. Turn to go love. Turn to say love. All it takes is that springtime fresh.
- 2:08:19Well, the happy fellow right up here with me is the manager of the Orioles, Hank Bauer. I don't know whether he's the happiest or whether American League president Joe Cronin is, but first of all, Hank, you've been in this, you've had this experience as a player, now as a manager. I don't know whether you're aware of the two or not, but I think people would like to hear what you have to say.
- 2:08:38I think this is the greatest thing that ever happened to me in baseball. I did play on seven, but never as a manager like I was this year. We got good young kids, and let me say this, everybody says we didn't have pitching. We had a better pitching than they did.
- 2:08:55Yeah, I think the record books will show that for many years to come.
- 2:08:58And we had a bunch of kids too, Chuck, through 100 percent.
- 2:09:01Hank, and you did a 100 percent job yourself. Everybody in baseball recognizes that fact. You deserve a great deal of credit, and I think it's a wonderful day. And, Jonah, how does the American League feel about a four-game streak?
- 2:09:12The American League congratulates Hank Bauer. He's done a wonderful job. They stepped out in League and they knocked all the clubs off. We thought we were going to have a real good race this year, but old Hank stepped out, and he really showed the rest of the League, and I think he's proven it to the whole world and sweeping the World Series. We're proud of you, Hank.
- 2:09:28Thank you very much, Joe.
- 2:09:29Hank, I don't want to dwell on a negative subject at all, but did you at any time think about going to Mcdally and Menaithening?
- 2:09:35Yes, I did. I was a little afraid of Johnson, and Cat went out and asked him how he felt, and said he was on. We went to breaking balls with Johnson. I think if he would have got on base, I would have brought in Stu Miller to pitch to Tommy Davis.
- 2:09:49Hank Bauer, manager of the World Champion Baltimore Orioles, congratulations, Hank. It's been a great privilege being with you. And right now, that's about to end here in the Winners Clubhouse, the World Champion Russ Snyder. Congratulations. Over here is Boo Powell. Come on in here, Boo. We've got to leave right now. We've got to turn things back to Kurt Gump in the announced booth.
- 2:10:11Now, we'll continue with more World Series highlights in just a moment.
- 2:10:16We're in the home of a man with a most unusual hobby. Mr. Wilvers, you collect beer cans. Tell us about them.
- 2:10:25Here's what we call a first-day can. Pick it up in Atlanta the first day, the Carling Black Label Brewery opened up there. And there's another Black Label can from their Phoenix Brewery. The ring tab is on the bottom instead of the top.
- 2:10:37I see. That's sort of a pop bar.
- 2:10:41Here, Black Label can from their Baltimore Brewery. Look, brood and filled in Baltimore. Baltimore. Well, instead of R, you see, mistake, very rare.
- 2:10:49Oh, yes.
- 2:10:50Here's a match block of six from Carling's Tacoma Brewery. Beautiful, isn't it?
- 2:10:54It looks like a six-pack.
- 2:10:56Match block of Tacoma. The shoreman offered me $90 for these.
- 2:11:01I noticed, Mr. Wilvers, your whole collection seems to be Carling Black Label cans.
- 2:11:06Well, because they're only human. After all, I do drink all this beer.
- 2:11:09And what does Mrs. Wilbers think about your collection?
- 2:11:12She won't dash them.
- 2:11:22Well, ladies and gentlemen, very quickly, this was a very abbreviated series and a lot of surprises took place. And there isn't any question about that.
- 2:11:30First game, some two-thirds shutout pitching, a motorbasket struck out 11, the Orals winning 5-2.
- 2:11:35In the second ballgame, a 20-year-old shot him out 6-0. The youngest pitcher shot out in the World Series.
- 2:11:41Willie Davis committed three errors in one inning. That's a record. The Dodgers had six in one game. That tied a record.
- 2:11:47In the third game, a 21-year-old by the name of Bunker went out and won a ballgame. And Paul Blair homered.
- 2:11:52That became then the third game in the history of the World Series ever to be won by a home winger.
- 2:11:57Wingo did it in 23, Heinrich in 49, now Blair in yesterday's game.
- 2:12:01And they came right back today on back-to-back. Frank Robinson hit a home run.
- 2:12:06And thus, four games, two back-to-back, have been won by a score of 1-0 in all of the World Series games by virtue of a home run.
- 2:12:16Another record established, the Dodgers, the fewest hits by a club in the series. The record was 22.
- 2:12:21The Dodgers have your books now as they had 10-13 a total all day of 17 others of the series.
- 2:12:28So they eclipsed the old mark at 22 being the fewest hits.
- 2:12:32Lots of tremendous thrills and great plays. And certainly they'll be talking a long, long time about this World Series.
- 2:12:38Whereabouts, they only used one relief pitcher, the Orioles did, and never at one time called on a pinch hitter.
- 2:12:4528 Dodgers going down on strikeouts, a team that was supposed to have inferior pitching, but did not.
- 2:12:52So this World Series is all wrapped up and it was tremendous.
- 2:12:56Our broadcast was authorized under broadcast rights granted by the Commissioner of Baseball, solely for the entertainment of our listening audience.
- 2:13:03Any publication, rebroadcast, or other actions and accounts of this game without the express consent of the Commissioner of Baseball is prohibited.
- 2:13:11Certainly has too, if I may tell you, to been a great joy to work alongside our producer Len Dunn of NBC and our WBL engineer, Burt Bader,
- 2:13:20to Jimmy Simpson, who was invaluable on all of the stats and the records and everything set along with Alan Roth and Kirk Gowdy, Chuck Thompson,
- 2:13:27and of course my running mate here, Ben Sley, the veteran voice of the Los Angeles Statues.
- 2:13:32I gave it a score this one, the Baltimore Birds made sure they weren't going back to Los Angeles.
- 2:13:37And they won it, nothing. So they then extended the Dodgers score to a streak to 33, and that is another record.
- 2:13:44Baltimore wins this one, one more hits, no errors, the Dodgers 0-4-0. Two sensational catches, one by Willie Davis and a ball hit by Boog Powell in the fourth.
- 2:13:55Talk about a long time, otherwise they would have had a two-nothing lead.
- 2:13:59Then they came right back and repaid the compliment and Blair, who's homer, won it yesterday, down and saved a homerun off the Battle of Fever as he leaped a good two to three feet higher than the fence,
- 2:14:09seven feet tall at the 4'10 mark and hauled in what would have been the tying blast of Battle of Fever.
- 2:14:14So three double plays in a row, marvelous pitching by McNally, a whale of a World Series even though you are a Dodger fan.
- 2:14:22So that will wrap up the fourth and final game of the 1966 World Series.
- 2:14:30The final score once again in the fourth and final game of the World Series here in Memorial Stadium, Baltimore, was one to nothing in Baltimore.
- 2:14:38And now for Vince Gulley. This is Bob Prince saying thanks very much for being with us.
- 2:14:43This has been a sports presentation of NBC News.
