Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Today, We're gonna tell you the one thing that'll put
- 0:02Speaker 1: it into the stupid NBA MVP debate. Yeah, rule the intro.
- 0:10Speaker 1: All right, all right, yo yo yoo, Your life from Phillis.
- 0:15Speaker 1: It's the number one rated poly and Tony Foolsco Shaw
- 0:18Speaker 1: Yo Yo Yo always Polly Foolsco here with Tony Fosco
- 0:24Speaker 1: and Tony Yo huge show today. You know, yeah, yeah,
- 0:28Speaker 1: a lot of controversies surrounding the sport of basketball, and
- 0:32Speaker 1: we're gonna clear it all up for you. Are with Tony. Absolutely,
- 0:36Speaker 1: we're gonna help you see the forest in the trees. Yeah,
- 0:39Speaker 1: we're gonna do that. Well. Second, you know, before we
- 0:42Speaker 1: get to adop story. You know, being the most respected
- 0:45Speaker 1: people in all of sports talk, you know a lot
- 0:47Speaker 1: of people that are always coming up to us asking us, Hey, Polly, Tony,
- 0:51Speaker 1: will you let me come on the show. Oh yea god,
- 0:53Speaker 1: will you give me that exposure? Help me boost my
- 0:56Speaker 1: struggling career? Every Yo. We've done that, Tony. You know,
- 0:59Speaker 1: we've helped a lot of rust their career giving them
- 1:02Speaker 1: that exposure. You know, names like Chris Brussad, Dick Wright.
- 1:06Speaker 1: You know, we're unfortunately responsible for some of them. Get well.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Now today, there's this young buck out there. He's hosting
- 1:14Speaker 1: this podcast where he apparently talks basketball. I've never heard it,
- 1:18Speaker 1: you know, but he's asking us. He's been writing us,
- 1:21Speaker 1: you know, hey, can I come on get exposure? You know? Okay,
- 1:24Speaker 1: we thought, hey, we'll give this shortened buck a shot
- 1:28Speaker 1: him out. Ye, he hosts a podcast. As you know,
- 1:31Speaker 1: most people have never heard of it, but it's called
- 1:33Speaker 1: nerd Sesh. What a name like that. I can see
- 1:36Speaker 1: why nobody wants to listen. Never heard of it. With
- 1:38Speaker 1: a name like that, I mean, I forget about it.
- 1:41Speaker 1: No wonder he's begging us for exactly Well, maybe we'll
- 1:44Speaker 1: have to give him some advice, Tonty, But we're gonna
- 1:47Speaker 1: bring this kid on here. He's got some takes on
- 1:50Speaker 1: the NBA MVP race, you know, very cutey. His name
- 1:54Speaker 1: is Carson Breber. And some people have told us this
- 1:59Speaker 1: kid really knows stuff. So hey, we'll give him a
- 2:01Speaker 1: shot here, don't. Okay, Look, we do community service on
- 2:04Speaker 1: this show. That's what we do. Yep, we do. And
- 2:08Speaker 1: just one note before we move on a brief note
- 2:10Speaker 1: of business here. On our last show, we made what
- 2:14Speaker 1: some have deemed negative comments about the restaurant known as Chippotle.
- 2:20Speaker 1: So after receiving a strongly worded letter from the company,
- 2:24Speaker 1: we've decided to do what they call in the business.
- 2:26Speaker 1: It's called a make good. Okay, and you see what
- 2:29Speaker 1: a make good is is you do something for free
- 2:32Speaker 1: to make up for what some people says was wrong,
- 2:34Speaker 1: even though it wasn't. But we're not going to get
- 2:36Speaker 1: into yea anyway. Anyway, here's what we're gonna do. We're
- 2:39Speaker 1: gonna give a free ad right now for Chippotle. Do
- 2:43Speaker 1: you like lots of meat in your tacos? I certainly don't. Yeah,
- 2:49Speaker 1: all that meat is just terrible. You see, what you
- 2:52Speaker 1: want is the minimal amount of meat a human being
- 2:55Speaker 1: can fit into a taco. That's why you want Chipotle.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Order online now and into the promo code too much
- 3:03Speaker 1: meat to get twenty percent more meat removed from your
- 3:05Speaker 1: oil Chippote money. Okay, Well that fixed, We got right done?
- 3:09Speaker 1: Yeah anyway, Yeah, so that that that that's out of
- 3:11Speaker 1: the way. There, it's time for one of our most
- 3:14Speaker 1: popular segments, you know, where we go over everything. We
- 3:17Speaker 1: predicted that we got Bango on the money, as we
- 3:20Speaker 1: always do. So it's time right now for where Polly
- 3:23Speaker 1: and Tony were right, Where Paully and Tony were right,
- 3:29Speaker 1: all right, first out of the game. You know, we
- 3:32Speaker 1: told you before the season even started that Joe Lmbid
- 3:35Speaker 1: would win NBA MVP. H while the vote hasn't taken
- 3:39Speaker 1: place yet, you know we can go ahead and just count.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Doesn't even need Yeah, not only because Mbid dropped fifty
- 3:46Speaker 1: two points on the Celtics Tuesday night. But after the game,
- 3:50Speaker 1: Sixers coach Doc Rivers said this here roll that sound.
- 3:55Speaker 1: The man just scored half our points in the NBA game. Um,
- 4:01Speaker 1: and I'm biased, but the MVP race is over. You
- 4:04Speaker 1: see that there, It's over, straight from the mouth of
- 4:07Speaker 1: a dart. Does as good as over. Yeah, but we
- 4:10Speaker 1: still got some fools in the media out there who
- 4:12Speaker 1: are still claiming that the Denver Nuggets star whatever it is,
- 4:18Speaker 1: that he should be MVP. Yeah. You know why, Yeah,
- 4:21Speaker 1: because we know the media has a pro Serbian bias.
- 4:26Speaker 1: We exposed it already exactly, ye go back and listen,
- 4:29Speaker 1: get educated. Exactly. But you know this is why we've
- 4:33Speaker 1: been saying Nicola Yokiic he shouldn't even be eligible to
- 4:37Speaker 1: win Italy. You know, he's already won the past two.
- 4:40Speaker 1: It's it's boring and terrible for the sport if he
- 4:43Speaker 1: wins again. Why we have a simple solution to all
- 4:47Speaker 1: this message terms term limits. You go, yeah, if presidents
- 4:52Speaker 1: can only serve you know, two terms, Well, why can
- 4:56Speaker 1: a guy win more than two MVPs. There's no makes sense, right, Tony. Absolutely,
- 5:01Speaker 1: And if you want an example, look no further than
- 5:04Speaker 1: Michael Jordan. People don't know this, but the real reason
- 5:08Speaker 1: he retired twice was to let someone else win MVP.
- 5:13Speaker 1: He felt so bad for keeping his friend Charles Barkley
- 5:16Speaker 1: from winning that he went to David Stern and demanded
- 5:20Speaker 1: the rule changes. And when David Stern said no, Michael
- 5:24Speaker 1: Jordan had no choice but to retire and play baseball
- 5:28Speaker 1: just now. Absolutely, if Nicola Yokik had any decency, he
- 5:34Speaker 1: would retire today just to avoid any unfast scenario like that. Again,
- 5:40Speaker 1: tremendous points and historical insight, Tony. When Paul and Don
- 5:45Speaker 1: were right. We told you these stupid new MLB rules
- 5:49Speaker 1: would ruin the game of baseball. And sure, run off.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Look at what's going on right here in Philly. The
- 5:55Speaker 1: Phillies off to a one in four start there were
- 5:58Speaker 1: start ever, and it's clear why the game is just
- 6:02Speaker 1: moving too fast. Now it's not fair, It's not fair
- 6:05Speaker 1: at all. You know, I turned out a game the
- 6:07Speaker 1: other day. You got balls flying all over the place
- 6:10Speaker 1: all the time. Now, you know, this is supposed to
- 6:12Speaker 1: be baseball, not high al. You know, Baseball is supposed
- 6:15Speaker 1: to be a game of strategy. You know, it's like chess,
- 6:18Speaker 1: a thinking man's game strategy. You gotta give people time
- 6:22Speaker 1: to think. And you know this is clearly throwing off
- 6:26Speaker 1: the true baseball. Vet's like the Phillies. It's just terrible,
- 6:29Speaker 1: isn't it don't It's terrible, and it's terrible for fans
- 6:32Speaker 1: watching the game. You know, what I used to love
- 6:35Speaker 1: about baseball is that after a pitch was thrown I
- 6:38Speaker 1: could go make myself a sandwich and then go to
- 6:42Speaker 1: the bathroom and then call my mother, all before the
- 6:45Speaker 1: next pitch was thrown. And now I can't do that anymore.
- 6:48Speaker 1: It's ruining what the game used to be all about.
- 6:52Speaker 1: So well said and just so tragic, Tony were right,
- 6:57Speaker 1: all right? Finally some blowback to our last episode we
- 7:01Speaker 1: have to address. You know, people are coming up to
- 7:03Speaker 1: us and saying Donty made some sort of misstep or
- 7:06Speaker 1: whatever when he presented a top five all time movies
- 7:10Speaker 1: list last week and didn't have Rocky or any of
- 7:13Speaker 1: the Rocky movies on the list. People always say the
- 7:16Speaker 1: first Rocky, Oh, it's one of the best movies of
- 7:18Speaker 1: all time. And I never understood why Rocky loses in
- 7:23Speaker 1: that movie. I left the theater disappointed, and frankly I
- 7:27Speaker 1: wanted my money back. And Rocky two, three, and four, well,
- 7:31Speaker 1: they don't stand alone. You need to watch the first
- 7:34Speaker 1: Rocky to understand them. So if Sylvester Stallone had made
- 7:38Speaker 1: Rocky one through four all as one long movie, of
- 7:42Speaker 1: course that would have been number one, easy. But he didn't.
- 7:46Speaker 1: So that's why the list stands as is. And also
- 7:50Speaker 1: because he made Rocky five, which is literally the most
- 7:53Speaker 1: terrible movie ever made. You certainly won't get any blowback
- 7:56Speaker 1: on that Dike that Donty anyway. Yeah, we'd love to
- 7:59Speaker 1: discuss this more, but I see our guest he's coming
- 8:02Speaker 1: on the line. Yeah, let's go ahead and get him
- 8:04Speaker 1: on the Fusco Satellite Network. Satellite Okay, our guest today,
- 8:12Speaker 1: you know he's an up and come trying to make
- 8:14Speaker 1: it in this business, you know, like so many people
- 8:17Speaker 1: who are hoping to reach the statue you know that
- 8:20Speaker 1: we have you know, you know, you know there was
- 8:22Speaker 1: a time Tony when we were like him, you know,
- 8:24Speaker 1: just stopped out. Of course, that time didn't last long
- 8:27Speaker 1: before our meteoric rise. Yeah, you know that maybe lasted
- 8:31Speaker 1: a day at two before we totally explode. Anyway, it's
- 8:34Speaker 1: probably taking this young kid, you know, much longer anyway,
- 8:36Speaker 1: So we're gonna help him out today. He hosts a podcast,
- 8:39Speaker 1: as you can see, is trying to promote it behind him.
- 8:41Speaker 1: It's called nerd Sesh, which is just a terrible title
- 8:45Speaker 1: for learn to Fix that. Okay. You know he's been
- 8:50Speaker 1: begging us to come on the show and get exposure.
- 8:52Speaker 1: So yeah, we're gonna help this young buck out. Carson Breber,
- 8:56Speaker 1: Welcome to the show. Easily the biggest audience you've ever
- 9:00Speaker 1: You're going with an alternate pronunciation. It's the Philly accent.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Maybe I would say it forever. That's well, I'm not,
- 9:08Speaker 1: That's just that's how it would be pronounced correctly. Rule
- 9:12Speaker 1: of radio and television. You're young, you may not know this.
- 9:15Speaker 1: You never correct the host never, never, you know, so
- 9:19Speaker 1: maybe on your show, I tell everyone what to do,
- 9:21Speaker 1: but he and the host repect it's okay, It's okay, bibo,
- 9:28Speaker 1: whatever the hell your name? Yeah, we'll bring it back.
- 9:31Speaker 1: That's you're not taking any notes. I noticed you're not
- 9:33Speaker 1: taking You should be taking notes, right, Well, what I
- 9:37Speaker 1: take them on my computer is what I do, so
- 9:38Speaker 1: you guys wouldn't notice. But yes, I am trust me
- 9:41Speaker 1: everything can guys say, I'm taking it all in. Okay, Okay,
- 9:44Speaker 1: let's get to talk to about that title of a
- 9:46Speaker 1: show you got there, Nerds. Sessh, what were you thinking
- 9:50Speaker 1: when you came up with that title? Do you think
- 9:52Speaker 1: anyone would want to be caught dead listening to a
- 9:55Speaker 1: show with such a terrible title? It's hard. It's supposed
- 9:58Speaker 1: to be sports talk. Yeah, right, Well, I think when
- 10:01Speaker 1: you guys were probably in your early twenties, right, maybe
- 10:04Speaker 1: around the eighty three six ers, title nerd had a
- 10:06Speaker 1: certain connotation that was very negative, right, you had whatever,
- 10:11Speaker 1: who stop, let's stop down, let's get this side. I
- 10:15Speaker 1: think he just threw an old joke at us. That
- 10:18Speaker 1: was not a joke. That was a guess. I thought
- 10:21Speaker 1: Nerds was supposed to be good at math. Yeah, I
- 10:24Speaker 1: apologize if I've offended you. We're not that well. How
- 10:27Speaker 1: old are you? Yeah? What are you? Twelve? I'm closer
- 10:32Speaker 1: to twelve than uh than you guys are to me,
- 10:34Speaker 1: that's for sure. You know, we give you this, We
- 10:37Speaker 1: give you this opportunity. I'm getting out. You're right. I
- 10:41Speaker 1: I don't know where I where I got off the thought. Yeah,
- 10:44Speaker 1: there you go, walk it back there you go anyway,
- 10:47Speaker 1: all right, cousin, We're gonna lead you through this. Heah
- 10:49Speaker 1: help you, you know. Yeah, We're gonna do now is
- 10:51Speaker 1: We're gonna ask you for your take. Okay, Yeah, So
- 10:54Speaker 1: we're gonna set you up. That's what they do on
- 10:56Speaker 1: these shows. All right, We're gonna give you what they
- 10:57Speaker 1: call a softball question. Yeah, make it easy. You know,
- 11:02Speaker 1: base hit right, Okay. So Joel Embiid, you know he
- 11:05Speaker 1: plays for the sixes CENTA. Okay, he's eating the NBA
- 11:10Speaker 1: in every important statistical categoria way and the other night,
- 11:15Speaker 1: his coach Doc Rivers said the MVP race is over
- 11:19Speaker 1: and that Embiid is the winners. So don't you agree
- 11:21Speaker 1: that Embiid is the slam dunk pick for MVP. I
- 11:26Speaker 1: would have to disagree. I would have embiad as an
- 11:28Speaker 1: honorable Bronze medalist for all this. I actually think that
- 11:32Speaker 1: the MVP right now would be honest, which is not
- 11:35Speaker 1: going to happen because the narrative has totally shifted towards
- 11:38Speaker 1: its EMI. And also, nobody's that dumb, but okay, keeping
- 11:41Speaker 1: also people watch basketball, No it's MBID but yeah, keep going. Well, yeah,
- 11:46Speaker 1: let me compel you guys here. So if you're looking
- 11:49Speaker 1: at the mbiad case, it's right, great score, good defender
- 11:52Speaker 1: on a very good team. But I think that if
- 11:54Speaker 1: you're looking at Jannis right he they're forty seven and
- 11:57Speaker 1: sixteen significantly better. Well I am because I'm I'm watching
- 12:02Speaker 1: the entire NBA, not just the Sixers. Uh, they're twenty
- 12:05Speaker 1: seven and nine with him, even without Chris Middleton, who
- 12:07Speaker 1: I don't know if you guys are familiar, it's a
- 12:08Speaker 1: star level player. And we can call these guys equal
- 12:12Speaker 1: on offense, right Yannis is the playmaking edge and beats
- 12:14Speaker 1: the scoring edge. Jannie is clearly the better defender on
- 12:17Speaker 1: the team that has been significantly better when he plays
- 12:19Speaker 1: hold on, hold on way too fast. Yeah. Yeah, First
- 12:25Speaker 1: of all, you're talking way too fast, you know it
- 12:27Speaker 1: just it sounds like someone sped up the tape. You're
- 12:30Speaker 1: just going on. Yeah, you gotta slowest sound. Number two,
- 12:34Speaker 1: the audience concerned. Number two. We're gonna give you an
- 12:36Speaker 1: education at Tony, and Tony knows this. When you're evaluating
- 12:40Speaker 1: an NBA player, Tony, what is the most important metric
- 12:44Speaker 1: for an NBA player by far? Free throw percentage? There
- 12:48Speaker 1: you go. If you can't hit an open shot nine,
- 12:52Speaker 1: then you shouldn't even be called good at basketball. So yeah,
- 12:55Speaker 1: so I'm do you guys have JJ reddick all time? Well,
- 12:58Speaker 1: hold on, we're steering the I'm just saying, yeah, yeah,
- 13:02Speaker 1: I'm just trying to learn. You're trying to interrupt, is
- 13:06Speaker 1: what you're trying to do't and you gotta wait for us. Yeah,
- 13:08Speaker 1: get to your JJ reddick. Hold on, tell us, tell
- 13:13Speaker 1: us if you do your research, young man, what is
- 13:16Speaker 1: yan This is a free free throw percentage place? Yeah,
- 13:19Speaker 1: it's somewhere in the mid sixties this year, I think.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Not good? Yeah, not right, yeah, mid sixties. Like the
- 13:29Speaker 1: amount of sperm you have in your body right now? Yeah? Okay,
- 13:32Speaker 1: Well I don't know. My father is a famously high
- 13:34Speaker 1: sperm count so I think maybe I've had that passed
- 13:36Speaker 1: down to me. Very strange that you know that but
- 13:38Speaker 1: don't he brags about it. He's an odd guy. But
- 13:40Speaker 1: I was like, if he had you then you know.
- 13:43Speaker 1: But you know, he's just on that note. You know
- 13:45Speaker 1: a doctor and Doc Rivers said that then beads the
- 13:48Speaker 1: the MVP. Why is this with you? What do you
- 13:51Speaker 1: know more than Doc Rivers? Well, I think almost everybody
- 13:55Speaker 1: knows more than Doc Rivers. I'm not sure what he's
- 13:58Speaker 1: done to suggest that he's any good at his job.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Just a moment, Tony. This is the rudeness that comes
- 14:03Speaker 1: from this young generation. Don't even know who Doc Rivers is? Yeah,
- 14:08Speaker 1: you were negative forty four at that point. What, yeah,
- 14:10Speaker 1: do you not tell us? Doc Rivers was a solid
- 14:13Speaker 1: NBA point guard, mostly for the Hawks in the eighties
- 14:16Speaker 1: and since then he coached the Celtics to the O
- 14:18Speaker 1: eight title, and now he coaches the consistently underachieving Sixers.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Coach the Magic before then Temac in his early years.
- 14:25Speaker 1: I know who Doc Rivers is, very raspy voice. You know,
- 14:28Speaker 1: you consistently bad. So there's a hole or some great
- 14:35Speaker 1: years for the Knicks. Yeah, you don't know. I think
- 14:39Speaker 1: you're thinking of Mark Jackson. No, so where's the Nicola
- 14:43Speaker 1: Jokic or whatever? And you're so called analysis here? Yeah,
- 14:47Speaker 1: I would have Nikola Yoki at number two, barely above MBID.
- 14:51Speaker 1: The Nuggets are significantly better with Yokis than the Sixers
- 14:54Speaker 1: are with MBIAD. Are you insane? Well? Are you familiar
- 14:57Speaker 1: with the metric winds Tony where the Nuggets are forty
- 15:01Speaker 1: eight and twenty with Yokich, the Sixers are forty three
- 15:04Speaker 1: and twenty two with MBIAD despite having all MBA guard
- 15:07Speaker 1: James Harden, great third and fourth options, Tyrese Maxi, Dubias
- 15:10Speaker 1: Harris better depth than the Nuggets. Again, just talking too
- 15:14Speaker 1: fast again? You know you gotta all right, I didn't
- 15:16Speaker 1: hear anything. It's like Charlie Brown's teacher. Yeah, I couldn't.
- 15:22Speaker 1: I couldn't. I don't think anyone in our audience, they're
- 15:24Speaker 1: probably all tune it out right now, which isn't to
- 15:27Speaker 1: strike it all right, But look here we're gonna get
- 15:30Speaker 1: We're gonna throw something at you here. You know you
- 15:32Speaker 1: don't want to give mvpay to someone who's already won.
- 15:35Speaker 1: It's just not interesting. Yoki Jannie, they've already won. Yeah,
- 15:38Speaker 1: don't you think we should have time limits for m
- 15:40Speaker 1: v pays? You know, you can only win though, that's
- 15:43Speaker 1: mats and then you're out. Yeah, that's a really interesting thought,
- 15:47Speaker 1: and we sort of historically have without making it official.
- 15:51Speaker 1: I mean, we haven't had a three peat for MVP
- 15:52Speaker 1: since Bird eighty four to eighty six. So that, honestly,
- 15:56Speaker 1: I think is the only reason that embiad is now
- 15:57Speaker 1: the front runner is because people have started to hold on.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Is Yokis deserve three straight even though I think within
- 16:03Speaker 1: the scope of this season, like the last two seasons,
- 16:06Speaker 1: he has a stronger case than MBID. Are you saying
- 16:09Speaker 1: it's a charity vote? Is that what he's saying? I
- 16:12Speaker 1: do actually feel that, Yeah, it is. On this day.
- 16:16Speaker 1: We're doing charity right now. But PAULI, didn't you just
- 16:19Speaker 1: propose this new legislation, this term limit idea. How is
- 16:22Speaker 1: that anything but charity? That's democracy. It's the opposite that
- 16:26Speaker 1: people aren't deciding anymore. Oh, you don't know how your
- 16:28Speaker 1: country works, son, term limits? You only have presidents twice
- 16:32Speaker 1: in this country. Yeah, yeah, I know you haven't graduated
- 16:35Speaker 1: middle school yet, but that's how this works. Yeah, Well,
- 16:38Speaker 1: I think that Yokis is the best offensive player in basketball.
- 16:41Speaker 1: He doesn't have another All Star on his team, and
- 16:43Speaker 1: yet there's still consistently the best team out West this
- 16:46Speaker 1: entire year because of how great they are offensively, and
- 16:49Speaker 1: he's producing at a level we've never seen. I'm gonna
- 16:51Speaker 1: throw a number out there, you guys, I probably have
- 16:53Speaker 1: no idea what it means, but trueting percentage, what he's
- 16:56Speaker 1: up at, seventy true shooting percentage, it's really the best
- 16:59Speaker 1: measure of players scoring efficiency. Explain what true shooting percentage
- 17:03Speaker 1: is for our audience who doesn't really, But shooting percentage
- 17:06Speaker 1: is basically your points per per shot, and then free
- 17:11Speaker 1: throw attempts, so it's weighted so that it's it's your
- 17:14Speaker 1: points per attempt basically, So if you make forty percent
- 17:18Speaker 1: of your threes, that's worth sixty percent of your twos, right,
- 17:21Speaker 1: because three's are worth one and a half. So it
