- 0:08SPEAKER_02: There's a great big beautiful tomorrow.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Just a dream.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Of Mice and Main Street Men.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: I am Tristan.
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: And I am Sean.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: That was that had a lot of uh build-up for not too anything too exciting because it was just me.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: But uh, you know.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: But they're used, they're used to that.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: They are used to that.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: And uh, but how are you?
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: How are things?
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: What's going on in the world?
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: I'm good.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: I'm just you know having a lovely time here autumn in the Midwest.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's it's I mean we're not we don't we don't yeah, we don't quite have a nip in the air yet, as they say.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: No in in novels, I guess.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Where you actually say there's a nip in the air.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: Oh yes.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: I start every day with oh, there's a nip in the air this morning.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: As I get out on my steed and ride into town.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: Nice, yeah.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: But but you know, no, I'm just I'm just doing life.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: I'll be headed back to New Mexico pretty soon, yes, depending on when this airs.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: But yeah.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: I'm doing Jekyll and Hyde, is that correct?
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: That is correct, sir.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: And you're heading, uh you're heading to Disneyland while you're there too, aren't you?
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: Oogie Boogie's Bash.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's are you doing one of those you're driving 11 hours for one day and then driving 11 hours back?
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Why wouldn't you do that?
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: No, I'd Disneyland.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: If I live closer to either one of these parks, I'd do that all the time.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: Well, and I will say, I mean, I will leave at the absolute ass crack of dawn.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: And like, I I I don't mind driving like at 4 a.m.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: if I'm going to Disney.
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: I'll do it.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: We have a matinee on Sunday, but but I have already had uh our friends Matt and Sarah who went with us last summer, and we did uh we did an episode about that trip because Sarah had lived out there but hadn't been back since she was a cast member, or since there was, I think, California Adventure.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: And Matt had never been and is a huge Disney fan.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: So we talked about that, but they had already requested my patented welcome to Disneyland night before Disney experience without a park ticket.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: So oh, sure.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: So because I I I love getting to Disney the night before and going to downtown Disney, and now the broken spell is always on our list, and getting a dole whip over at the over at the pool at the Disneyland Hotel.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's great.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: And now there's so many great places to eat.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: I mean, I really want to try Gordon Ramsay's Carnaby.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that does look good.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so so anyway, I slightly digress.
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: Well, I guess I already started talking about some things that I love about Disneyland, but yeah, not necessarily.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: That's kind of what we're gonna chat about today because I um my wife and I have not stopped talking about how much we want to go back to Disneyland.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: We have been jailed back and because how when was your first trip?
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: So my first trip was October of 2023.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: We we were out in Hawaii, so on our way back, we stopped because we had a wedding in California anyway, so we did a day, and then we went back as a family that next March, and that was in 2024, and we have not been back.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: Um so it's your it's sort of your three-year anniversary.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: You've been going for three years, because for the first couple years of the podcast, we just talked about the fact that you needed to go.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and now we've transitioned through that trip to to your new love, your new love that you have found for Disneyland.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: And yeah, and it's I love Disney World, okay.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: Don't get me wrong, I really, really do.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: But there is something about Disneyland that if I sometimes I go to Florida because it's it's easier to get there, honestly.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: And uh this past summer we were thinking about possibly going, but then Harper really wanted to go to Disney World, so that was the trip we took because that was her request.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: And but I, you know, I've been blessed to go to Disney World a lot this year.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: I've been so lucky.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: And it helps that your wife is a cast member.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: It certainly helps.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: That's the only reason I've been as many times as I've been.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: Um, but there is something in my little heart that is like, man, I need to get back to Disneyland and I cannot stop thinking about it.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: And you know, the big thing is, you know, we're in the Midwest.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: It's easy to fly to Florida, it's only two hours, two and a half hours.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: And you know, it's just easier to get there.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: So sometimes it's like, well, if you need a Disney fix, well, that's where you're gonna go when you're on this side of the country.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: Oh, and then you know, you can't argue with the fact that there are four parks down there, and yeah, there's the risk the resorts are amazing and the resorts are incredible.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there is so much to love.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: Like there is a part of me that loves Disneyland so much, and I cannot wait to get back.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: But that's why we're revisiting uh an old topic because I'm I'm I'm always thinking about Disneyland.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: You were just at Disneyland, so why not talk about 10 things that we love about Disneyland?
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: You know, let's do all right.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: I do have one runner up because as I said right before we started, I was like, I left something off my list, and I ended putting it at number two because I was like, I do, yeah, because I went, how did I forget this?
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: But so I had to bump my number 10 off the list, and so and and it is a it's it's Disneyland adjacent, so maybe I'll just mention my honorable mention.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: My honorable mention goes to the fact that so many hotels are walkable from Disneyland, and especially, you know, not that anything out there is a bargain bargain, but depending on the time of year you go, there are some very affordable hotels, several of them offer free breakfast, and I mean you can leave your hotel and be at the you know at security in five to ten minutes on some of them.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, that is one of the best things about that place.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: Like, I what was the place where we stayed?
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: The uh The Desert Palms.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: The Desert Palms.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: Love that place.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: Breakfast is great, by the way.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: But also it's right there.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: Like it is right there.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: And so the only thing that would be better is if you could go at the back of the hotel and go through Cars Land.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: I know, because you can see it, it's right there.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's right there.
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: You're just on the back side of Cars Land, but ah, that's but anyway.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: So that's that's my honorable mention that there are so many pla now.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: It also puts the world right there.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: It's it's you know, there's the McDonald's right across the street, which never, ever go to that McDonald's after the park closes.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: Never matter.
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: It was a horrible episode.
- 7:03SPEAKER_01: But uh, but but uh you know, and and just the size in general, how walkable it is to change parks, which I don't know if that was on your list, but oh yeah, I'm talking about that because it it yeah, it it's okay.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: So so did you have any honorable mentions, or shall we just kick off with a 10?
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: No, we can just kick off with the 10.
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: It's been so long since we've done a top 10.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: We usually combine our two fives to make a 10.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: So I'll try to try to be I'll try to be short and sweet.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: Well, we've got to give the people what they want.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: You gotta surprise them every now and then.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: Okay, well, so my number 10 is the blue bayou.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: Ah, yes.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: Yes, my number 10 too.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: It's we are we think already.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: Wow, look at that.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: Well, so yeah, I guess we can talk about it together then because I just is it is it an inexpensive dining option?
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: It is not.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: But but I will say when Jackie and I went uh with uh with Kimberly, we had the last lunch reservation that you could have.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: And we ended up that Jackie ordered the the like uh side salad, but it was a really nice, you know, and you know, it wasn't just lettuce and stuff.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: I mean, there was like crane, I don't know, there was stuff on it that made it nice.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: I got a cup of the gumbo.
- 8:31SPEAKER_01: Oh, the gumbo there is great, it was so good, and then we ordered one Monte Cristo sandwich because who doesn't need well, I think we said on the episode our ser our server somewhere called it a a protein beignet.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: I always I always just call it the meat jelly donut, but I like I never eat this anywhere else but the blue bayou, and so and it had been years since I had one, and and that was plenty Jackie and I had plenty, and I think did I order a cocktail?
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: Surely I ordered a cocktail, but our bill was like$73.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: Which for the it's not terrible, like here's the thing is it's no worse than like you know, any of the uh more upscale places.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: Like, that's how I always kind of looked at it.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: I'm like, okay.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: Right, and the ambiance, the ambiance is just it can't be beef.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: Just see the pirates' boats float by and see the fireflies and just feel like you're outside on a veranda, it's amazing.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: No, it's dining inside of pirates, and it's like one of those experiences that feels just kind of out of this world, and like it's something that like you dreamt up a little bit, and like because we we when we ate there, we were right on the water, you know, like it was like the perfect situation.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's the most magical.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: And we just had the most wonderful time because you you had suggested it along with the world, and like we were like, okay, this is this is the top priority for us, and the food was amazing, our server was incredible, but also just being there on the water with that I mean as your backdrop, my gosh, like it was perfection, and nowhere at Disney World do I get that particular experience, you know, right?
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: Which, yeah, I mean, everybody sort of goes, well, a little bit at uh San Anhel Inn.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and we've eaten there too, and it's really great.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: But it's not, it's not pirates.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: No, no, it's not that at all.
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: All right, so my number nine is actually, I mean, and this is true of any Disney park, but I put I put fireworks because fireworks over the Disneyland castle are pretty magical.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's what the old TV show was, and um, you know, it just became iconic.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: And the fact that they can like fly characters that aren't just Tinkerbell at Disneyland, and that you have true options of where to watch and the projections happen because, you know, I don't know if people realize this, but if you watch the first Phantasmic, you can just stay there and see the fireworks.
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: So they do the project, they do a uh a whole set of projections on Tom Sawyer Island.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: And then what happened with us when we were over that we saw Paint the Night and watched from By Small World, and Small World has its own projections, and the Matterhorn has projections, and it's like it's just you have several options of cool places, they're not all iconic like the castle and main street, and if you're in those other locations, you can't if there's any like the house from up or Dumbo or any of those things, uh the Blue Ferry.
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: It's like you can't see those where you are, but but fireworks made my number made my number nine.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: That is a worthy number nine.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: So my number nine is I've kind of roped everything into this, but it's Toontown.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: Um, I didn't I didn't put Toontown, but I should have.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: I'm glad you did.
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: Because I love the revamped Mickey and Minis that's back there with that cue, it's incredible.
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I we kind of fell in love with that area just as a family with the Roger Rabbit and the uh what is it, the gadget coaster or whatever's over there, and especially that area at night.
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: Man, that takes on a whole different vibe.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: And you know, we met Mickey over there, and it's I've only been to Disneyland twice, right?
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: Twice, and it's a place that I just am always longing to go back to, especially Toontown.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: I just think that's such a cool little magical area.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: So that is my number nine, Toontown.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: Nice, all right.
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: So my number eight is Small World.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: Ah, yes, of course.
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: It's just I mean, it's the original, it's the one that went to the 64 World's Fair.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: I I'm they've they've done a lot of plussing, I know, over the years, but but that facade, that iconic facade, which I know, I don't know, what when was it?
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: Back in the was it when they did the new Fantasyland that they finally like kind of switched over the Florida facade so it at least it was at least mimicking and suggesting the original facade, but there's just nothing compared to that.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: And honestly, and I've said it before on the show, the attraction is better.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's denser, it's denser, it's you know, I just I feel like it's it's more showy.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, no, I agree.
- 13:45SPEAKER_01: And I love the inclusion of the characters in there.
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: Oh exactly.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: It's like why why has Florida resisted that for so long?
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: It and it just makes it, you know, it makes it more Disney and and ties in for like kids who know those characters and stuff, and uh then plus you have the added benefit of the holiday overlay in California too.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: So that's why that's why Small World has my number eight.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: That is a great number eight.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: So my number eight is the it I do think for the domestic Disney parks, it is the best one for park hopping.
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: You cannot argue that having Disneyland and California Adventure right directly across from each other, like park hopping so ridiculously easy.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: There's no buses, there are no boats, there's no monorails, and those things sky like the all the skyliner, they all have a place, and I do love them in their own way.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: And I love a skyliner moment, however, it takes time out of your day.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: I mean, it is a chunk so slick to go back and forth between those parks.
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, it's amazing! It's amazing.
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: So that that's why that's on my list because nothing can touch it, and no one can ever argue with me that it's not as easy, it's the easiest thing on the planet.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: So, yeah.
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: All right, so my number seven is Peter Pan's Flight.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: Is that on your list?
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: That didn't even make my list.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: See, there's so much great about Disneyland, you and I both forgot stuff, but and it's I love Peter Pan's flight in Florida, but but I have said for years, why can't you you know how much more magical it is in California?
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: Fix it exactly, like it's a hundred percent.
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: It's fiber optic stars, people, fiber optic stars, and they've been around for a good couple of decades now.
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: So so Peter Pan's flight.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: That's my number seven.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: Man, I'm so sad I didn't even put that on here.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: I knew I was gonna forget something.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: My number seven is Main Street USA.
- 15:44SPEAKER_00: Um it's the emotional entrance, you know, and it's the original it's it's the original, and there's something about that, even though the castle is, you know, it is what it is.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: They left it in the rain and it shrunk.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: They left it in the rain, and it's just, you know, it's a 50, what is it, six 60, 70?
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: When the hell how long old is that park?
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: 70 years?
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: It's 71 years now old now, yeah.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: 71.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: Like, I I just there's something about and you know, we took the the Main Street story tour, which is the right other version of what you took.
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: And like it I I mean it's so interesting.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: Well, and all of those, all of the windows well and Bob Iger, Bob Iger got his window the morning of the legends ceremony.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's so cool.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: Uh but just the history that's there and the love, and yeah, yeah.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: I and I didn't put I didn't put it on my list.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I there's just for me, there's something so special about that to the point where I'm at when I'm at there's still something amazing about Disney Worlds as well.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: But when I'm there, I'm like, no, this is not Disneyland though.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: And no, and it there's just there's just something special about it.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: And I mean, I was kind of forever changed by that tour that we took because it was just an incredibly inspiring, you know, just like it was just so amazing.
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: And the fact that like our particular tour had nobody else in it, it was just us, so like it was insane.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: And so yeah, so that's mine.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: Uh number seven is Main Street USA.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: Uh, my number six is Space Mountain.
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: Oh man.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: Is it on your list?
- 17:35SPEAKER_01: That did not make my list either.
- 17:37SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm just surprised how different these lists are.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: But I and I, you know, and I love my Space Mountain in Florida, but I've always said you put that soundtrack with it, and I just I it makes it better, and I just I love it.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: And plus, it's so cool to like, you know, in Disneyland where space is very precious, and like all the lines are like on the second floor.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's the line for the jungle cruise is nuts because you like literally go upstairs and downstairs, and it's like what I what and then yeah, but anyway, uh yeah, so Space Mountain is my number six.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: Oh, great.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: I cannot believe I left it off, especially since I just included this.
- 18:21SPEAKER_00: But number six, you're gonna be shocked by this.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: But this is like as long as I've gotten into the lore of this and just like had this deep appreciation, is Mr.
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: Toad's Wild Ride.
- 18:31SPEAKER_00: I wow, I know.
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: Uh the thing is, I the first time I did it, I was like, What is this?
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but then like I recall, but subsequent rides, I'm like, I get it.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: Like, this is such like a cool piece of history, and it's such a throwback to a different time.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: It's too bad you missed the busty barmaid, yeah.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: And it's you know what was a lot of fun.
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: That's why you're not the first person that said, It's too bad you missed the busty barmaid uh this week.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: Um, but um it's just it's one of the few remaining attractions, you know, from the old days, and it's so chaotic, it's so weird, and it's so Disneyland, and I just I could not not put it on my list, and I was even shocked where it went, as high as it did.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: But like, I don't know, there's something about it that I that has just really captured me.
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: So there you go.
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: Number six, Mr.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: Toad's Wild Ride.
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: All right, uh, my number five is the Matterhorn.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: So is mine.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: Oh, look at that.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: We was we synced up again.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: 10 and wow, okay.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: Um, yay, all right, yeah.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: So of course the Matterhorn.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: I mean, it was one of Walt's pet projects where you know he went to Switzerland and was like, hey, I'm gonna build a Matterhorn in my park.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: And and now I will say they've smoothed out the ride a little.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it does seem like I heard Jackie say, and I was kind of surprised in the last because it was closed for refurbishment when we were there last summer with Matt and Sarah.
- 20:03SPEAKER_01: They were doing a big overhaul, and I think part of that was like laying in some new track because it was a little less chiropractor adjustment.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's good than it used to be.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: But yeah, it's just so fun and the yodeling and the static.
- 20:19SPEAKER_01: I mean, they're they're their Yeti doesn't do a whole lot more than the current version that Expedition Everest, but it's still it's still cool.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: The story's cool, they've done some plussing of you know, effects that over the years, and it's just it's quintessential Disneyland.
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: So the Matterhorn is my number five.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and it's mine as well.
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: I just think there's something so uniquely cool about riding on a mountain in the middle of Disneyland that's cool in itself, but like I I kind of dig what it does, like, and if it's smoother now, that's even better.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, Matterhorn Bob Slends.
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: I absolutely love it.
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: So that's my number five.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: Plus, it's right there by that garlic cheese bread.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: Which man, we were we were a little sad we didn't have time to do that hack that we did that last trip before that that our friend Jacob had told us about.
- 21:11SPEAKER_01: That's like to buy that garlic cheesebread and then take it over and put one of the skewers from uh is it the Tahitian Terrace or the Bank of the Breakers?
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, I remember he talked about that.
- 21:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, that was amazing.
- 21:22SPEAKER_01: That garlic cheese bread though.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's that's like Chef's Kiss.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: It's some good stuff.
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: Uh, but I digress.
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: Were you done with the Matterhorn?
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: My number four is Indiana Jones.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: Oh, yes, that's my number four as well, actually.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: So that's really wild.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: Wow, okay.
- 21:43SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, I mean, uh it it's such a cool attract.
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, now it's 30 31 years old.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: I think I have because I think it debuted during the 40th celebration, and the reason I know that is because I have.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Sweatshirt that says Disneyland 40 and it's got Mickey in his Indiana Jones hat because it was it was the year that that opened.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: So, you know, yes, it needs a little love, uh, but it's just it's such a cool attraction and something you can only do in Disneyland, and we'll still only be able to do in Disneyland because the Florida version has a whole different story.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I my mind was really blown on that attraction.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: Um that was one experience where I was like, oh, I cannot believe a uh we're doing this particular like what it does, and like with the boulder and just like the mechanics of that, and when you're going over that bridge and like all of that stuff, I don't care what they say.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: I dinosaur track is not the same.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: I mean, I know it is, but like I know, I don't know.
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: Anyway, I know I there was just something so magical about what you experience in that.
- 22:59SPEAKER_00: I'm excited to see something like that at Disney World, but yeah, it's gonna be a different thing.
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: But what they what they accomplish at Disneyland is insane.
- 23:08SPEAKER_00: So, yes, Indiana Jones, that is my number four as well.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: Woo, woo.
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: All right, well, my number three is Haunted Mansion Holiday.
- 23:16SPEAKER_00: That's not my number three, but it's coming up.
- 23:19SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 23:20SPEAKER_01: All right, uh well, then I'll I'll I'll briefly talk about it, I guess, and you can add on.
- 23:25SPEAKER_01: Oh, no, no, and get what we're gonna do.
- 23:26SPEAKER_01: But huge, I mean, huge Haunted Mansion fans that we are, and I'm not even that big a nightmare fan, but it's just such a perfect marriage.
- 23:37SPEAKER_01: It it makes it, you know, fun and kooky in a way that I love my classic mansion, but I'm more than happy to do the holiday version with Nightmare, and honestly, I'm still waiting to hear because when we go in October, of course, everybody's got a party ticket.
- 23:57SPEAKER_01: But the party starts at three in terms of when you can get in, and so and because money is a is a factor for a lot of people, I don't know that a whole bunch of people are gonna go into Disneyland like from 8 a.m.
- 24:10SPEAKER_01: to 3 p.m.
- 24:11SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 24:12SPEAKER_01: Especially if you want to get a costume on for the party, but because I do get one travel agent Disneyland ticket per year, if uh usually as a as a travel agent perk, I've got my request in.
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: It hasn't been accepted yet.
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: I mean, I haven't gotten my confirmation yet, but I was like, even if I do nothing but go in and ride Haunted Mansion holiday a couple of times, I'm like, that will make me happy.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: And well, and I'll probably do a little shopping and probably have a yummy snack or something.
- 24:46SPEAKER_01: But well, yeah, we got to.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: It's just it's such a you know, it it takes everything about the mansion and and embraces it and and adds to it.
- 24:57SPEAKER_01: The score is the score is so fun, you know, the fact that the graveyard dog becomes zero, and and it's stuff like that.
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's just I I love it.
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think it's yeah, and yeah, I'll talk about it here in a minute.
- 25:13SPEAKER_00: Um, all right, what's your number three?
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: So my number three is actually, and we monjelloed it a little bit, but there's a reason I did it.
- 25:19SPEAKER_00: So it's Pirates and Small World.
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: I think these two in particular are the best versions of these attractions in the United States.
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: They beat out both of them beat out Florida by a mile.
- 25:33SPEAKER_00: And I just think they're such classic Disney imagineering and the scale and the atmosphere and the music and the storytelling are so phenomenal in both of these that you look at those in California and then you're like, What'd you do in Florida?
- 25:52SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: And why have you not, you know, maybe tried to do a little more over the years to get it closer to that?
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: Right, yeah.
- 26:04SPEAKER_01: I mean, I guess they go, This is our version, and it's like, well, it's not as good.
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: But I realized we did not address the audio animatronic elephant in the room in our Disneyland episode of the controversial pirate.
- 26:20SPEAKER_01: I have to say I thought it was great, honestly.
- 26:26SPEAKER_01: And I'm a piratey, I mean, uh I just I I d I guess I wasn't uh expecting it to be placed where it was, and it was much further away from me.
- 26:39SPEAKER_01: But the face it looked like the face of like one of the animatronics, right?
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: And then, you know, picking up the coin and turning into the skeleton, I thought it was really cool.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: So so go home, haters.
- 26:55SPEAKER_01: What what did I say in that episode?
- 26:57SPEAKER_01: It was like close your eyes and float on by.
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: Well, and I just think we also talked about that it was supposed to be viewed in that way from remote, not within two inches of it.
- 27:08SPEAKER_01: Like, so of course, you know, not with your zoom lens, and I j I thought it was a really cool thing.
- 27:14SPEAKER_01: I after all of the hoopla on the internet, when I saw it for myself, I went, stop being a hater for pity's sake.
- 27:23SPEAKER_01: This is kind of cool.
- 27:25unknown: Wow.
- 27:25SPEAKER_01: You know, was the technology any more jarring than, you know, the well, because the Davy Jones on the mist is gone now, which I was sort of sad for.
- 27:35SPEAKER_01: And I don't think the mermaids like swim around under under the water.
- 27:39SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 27:40SPEAKER_01: I don't know if that maybe maybe they got fired.
- 27:43SPEAKER_01: Maybe it was downsizing.
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: They had to let Davy Jones and the mermaids go because they had to increase profit margins.
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: But but I digress.
- 27:54SPEAKER_01: I I hijacked your I hijacked your lovely explanation of the Lou Mangello uh Small World and Pirates.
- 28:02SPEAKER_00: No, I knew and that and that's uh I just think they're both those were two of my favorite things to experience, and so that's why they're at number three, because I couldn't separate them because they kind of fall in the same pattern.
- 28:13SPEAKER_00: But there you go.
- 28:13SPEAKER_00: Their number three is pirates and small world.
- 28:17SPEAKER_01: All right, my number two, which is the one I forgot and couldn't believe it, but you said something about like nighttime or something, and I was like, oh my god, I left off Phantasmic.
- 28:28SPEAKER_00: Oh, I did too.
- 28:32SPEAKER_01: Well, then I'm glad I threw it back in here because I'm sorry, Phantasmic is exponentially better at Disneyland.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: I mean, there's something to be said for the scale of Mickey being up on that giant mountain in Florida, but there's also something to really be said for the scale of Mickey to be up on top of the Harper's Ferry building across the river from you that's not as It's just more intimate there.
- 28:58SPEAKER_01: Right, exactly.
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: And the pirate ship and that pirate fight, the Peter Pan, you know, thank God it's back to Peter Pan now.
- 29:06SPEAKER_01: I didn't well, I guess I did sort of hate the Captain Jack version, but only because I had really loved the Peter Pan version, so I was really glad when it returned.
- 29:16SPEAKER_01: But just and the finale, that boat.
- 29:21SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, phantasmic.
- 29:24SPEAKER_01: That's my number two.
- 29:26SPEAKER_00: So my number two is Haunted Mansion Holiday, which we just chatted about, but we've talked about this before.
- 29:31SPEAKER_00: I do think that's the most perfect overlay Disney could have ever done because the Tim Burton music, the style of you know, The Nightmare Before Christmas, which is just a great movie in general, like it all fits so seamlessly onto that ride that and I've only experienced it that way.
- 29:52SPEAKER_00: Both times I've been there.
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: Uh once you you had said you have never done the original.
- 29:57SPEAKER_00: No, I've it's always been the holiday one, which is fine.
- 30:01SPEAKER_00: Um, well, once it was closed, I should say.
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: In the spring it was closed, but in the fall it was when we went, it was holiday.
- 30:11SPEAKER_00: But I really enjoyed it.
- 30:12SPEAKER_00: Like I really dug it.
- 30:13SPEAKER_00: And me and Harper are big nightmares for Christmas fans.
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: So like for us, that was so cool to see.
- 30:19SPEAKER_00: And I do think it's brilliant.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: So that's my number two haunted mansion, holiday.
- 30:24SPEAKER_01: All right, so my number one really, I guess it sort of goes back to your original uh Main Street USA place on your list.
- 30:33SPEAKER_01: Because my number one, and this is something that I've had to learn as an adult, and why I care so much, but that it would, I mean, when people talk about the fact that this was Walt's park, this was the park that Walt built, this was the park he walked, this is the park where he had his his apartment, and and getting to see the apartment, this trip was just, you know, something that meant so much to me to finally, you know, see this place with my own eyes and step into it and know that he was there.
- 31:07SPEAKER_01: And it just as a true Disney fan, once you really get older and it's not just about the rides, yeah, and you you think about what it meant and how you know him being so dedicated to creating this place has changed the lives of millions and millions of people to varying degrees, but I s I have certainly been affected by it more than most, as have you.
- 31:38SPEAKER_01: I mean, any true Disney fan, you know, we owe it all to Walt, and we owe so much of our theme park love to Disneyland that I just it's a special place in my heart.
- 31:52SPEAKER_01: And that's why my number one is that it it's Walt's park.
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: Well, and my number one is also that it Walt was there, and I think that's the biggest um you know differentiator between the two is Disneyland is the park Walt Disney personally walked in and changed and obsessed over, and there's nothing quite being in a place where you know that dude was, you know what I mean?
- 32:18SPEAKER_00: Like, yes, he dreamt of what Disney World is, but like to know, and you know, you can even look at pictures of like him in various places, and you're like, wow, the was a place where he was, and to take that tour and to go into the apartment, and like those are not experiences you can get at Disney World, you just can't, and so you know, uh, yeah, I'm with you 100%.
- 32:43SPEAKER_00: Also, I should note we lined up on one, four, five, and ten.
- 32:47SPEAKER_01: That wow, maybe the first time I was gonna say, and yeah, for them to be identical, basically.
- 32:55SPEAKER_01: And then there were a couple that were on lists but in different places, but interesting.
- 33:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:01SPEAKER_01: Well, and I I will also say this is because I I think I'm sure I've mentioned this before.
- 33:06SPEAKER_01: This is my this is my insane year of Disney.
- 33:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and and it continues like in well, probably by the time this airs, I'll be anyway.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: I'm going to Marceline on the D23 uh yes, you are.
- 33:21SPEAKER_00: That's so exciting.
- 33:22SPEAKER_00: Marceline trip.
- 33:23SPEAKER_01: This weekend, technically.
- 33:24SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes, technically, yes.
- 33:28SPEAKER_01: This will yes, I'm probably I will head there tomorrow when this airs.
- 33:31SPEAKER_01: Um, and I'm really looking forward to it.
- 33:33SPEAKER_01: And again, you know, to be in those places that he was, we're having dinner at the farm, and they're at and they're doing a kiss good night firework show at the farm.
- 33:44SPEAKER_01: And I so I will be anxious to talk about that.
- 33:48SPEAKER_00: And but yeah, this is this is my major Disney year, so I have that early this year, and then next year I will have a I'm it's not Disney World centric, but I'm hitting a few Disney locations in the next year, so that's exactly.
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: You do a lot of Disney World, you need to get out there and experience the Disney of the world.
- 34:10SPEAKER_01: Oh, and I am, I promise you.
- 34:12SPEAKER_01: So man after world builders, the whole Arendelle thing in Paris just looks stunning.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: And man, then I watched, you know, then I watched that we call it Imagineering and their drone show, and uh I know why don't we get a drone show?
- 34:32SPEAKER_01: Apparently the French comments the French don't care if they lop people's heads off, I guess.
- 34:37SPEAKER_01: But they haven't.
- 34:38SPEAKER_01: Have you heard of any drones hitting people?
- 34:41SPEAKER_01: It's like they've proven that they are.
- 34:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:45SPEAKER_01: So that must be I guess so.
- 34:49SPEAKER_00: Well, anyway, the French just don't care.
- 34:52SPEAKER_00: Um, to anybody that's listening out there, uh, you know, I I've had like a a guest or listener or two be like, hey, how can we get on the show?
- 35:00SPEAKER_00: And I was like, just ask.
- 35:02SPEAKER_00: You just did it.
- 35:03SPEAKER_00: Like, and if anybody out there wants to join us ever, just shoot us a message.
- 35:07SPEAKER_00: Literally, that's how this has happened.
- 35:09SPEAKER_00: With anybody that's been on the show, they've been like, hey, I want to go do an episode.
- 35:12SPEAKER_00: And they're like, Great, let's do it.
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: Come on.
- 35:15SPEAKER_00: So you know, the more the merry, we love talking with people.
- 35:18SPEAKER_01: So we we love talking about Disney and we love talking to people who love talking about Disney.
- 35:23SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, please come join us.
- 35:25SPEAKER_01: But uh leave your fields to flower and leave your cheese to sour, to quote Stephen Schwartz.
- 35:32SPEAKER_01: Stephen Schwartz, did he write that?
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: That's Steven.
- 35:35SPEAKER_01: That's it's peeping.
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: It's it's peeping.
- 35:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's peeping.
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:40SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 35:40SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 35:41SPEAKER_00: Well, Mr.
- 35:41SPEAKER_00: McCall, it is always a pleasure.
- 35:43SPEAKER_00: It is always a pleasure.
- 35:45SPEAKER_00: And uh as we say each and every week, every little thing.
