- 0:14Speaker 2: Black I see it's good man, welcome. You know what,
- 0:16Speaker 2: I gotta admit something to you guys. I didn't realize
- 0:19Speaker 2: you guys were like a group. I just thought you
- 0:20Speaker 2: were Black Odyssey. It's kind of like an atmosphere type thing.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Get that.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Yeah, Like there's slug and ant and there's so Black
- 0:27Speaker 2: Odyssey is a.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a duo.
- 0:30Speaker 2: It's a Tucson Yeah. I heard they call you guys
- 0:33Speaker 2: the gruesome Toosome. Why I've never heard that.
- 0:35Speaker 3: In my life.
- 0:38Speaker 2: So how long has Black odyesstly been a thing?
- 0:40Speaker 3: Since twenty fifteen?
- 0:42Speaker 2: So twenty fifteen, you guys, did you guys meet in Austin?
- 0:44Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 0:44Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I started as a rock band together. I
- 0:47Speaker 1: was working in the village. He was working in the
- 0:49Speaker 1: pizza shop.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Nice and I was going in there getting which pizza
- 0:52Speaker 2: spot was. It was it like on sixth somewhere? Nah,
- 0:54Speaker 2: it was.
- 0:55Speaker 4: It's kind of out like in the bougie part of Austin.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Like, you guys, would you consider I know you guys
- 1:00Speaker 2: aren't from Austin, You're from Florida, You're from Jersey. Yeah,
- 1:03Speaker 2: you guys have been there for almost a decade, right,
- 1:05Speaker 2: you guys have probably seen the like crazy growth facts
- 1:09Speaker 2: twenty fifteen was like peak good south By years, well
- 1:12Speaker 2: towards the end of the great the Great south By years.
- 1:14Speaker 2: But is it kind of crazy to see the growth
- 1:18Speaker 2: of tech like Austin is wild? Like I just think
- 1:20Speaker 2: like we're fader for it is. There's like a whole
- 1:22Speaker 2: foods and a target now, It's like it's kind of wild.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Like what do you how do you guys feel about
- 1:27Speaker 2: like seeing that growth in the city that you know,
- 1:29Speaker 2: you guys call home because it is like, especially during
- 1:31Speaker 2: the pandemic, I feel like everybody moved there.
- 1:34Speaker 1: I mean shit to me, it's been interesting because we've
- 1:37Speaker 1: seen like the economic development in the city blow up crazy.
- 1:41Speaker 1: But as for musicians, the infrastructure for industry there has
- 1:46Speaker 1: been stagnant the whole time through So it's been interesting
- 1:50Speaker 1: to see a growth side by side and how much
- 1:52Speaker 1: like the music industry has got pushed out of Austin
- 1:56Speaker 1: since you know, the economic development went crazy, So that
- 2:00Speaker 1: has just been a super interesting perspective in general, because we.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Think like Austin's like a live city or a live
- 2:06Speaker 2: music city, right right, right right, But now it's like
- 2:08Speaker 2: comedy's there. There's all this text shit going on, like yeah, yeah,
- 2:12Speaker 2: Rent's probably going up, is it that?
- 2:17Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 2:18Speaker 2: How many times have you guys ate a barbecue and
- 2:21Speaker 2: an alley off of a trash pail?
- 2:25Speaker 3: I ho fuck with that?
- 2:26Speaker 2: Salty as shit, bro, Really you don't like barbecue.
- 2:30Speaker 3: I liked it the first year I moved there.
- 2:32Speaker 2: I feel like I've been in an alley eating off
- 2:34Speaker 2: of a trash candlid like seventeen times. And I don't
- 2:36Speaker 2: even live there.
- 2:37Speaker 1: It's a gain like thirty pounds when I moved to Texas.
- 2:41Speaker 3: I used to be fit.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Well, you're not like fat. Yeah, I'm getting there though,
- 2:45Speaker 2: me and you are both getting there. I like the
- 2:48Speaker 2: jacket it hides the getting there.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I wear xls now.
- 2:52Speaker 2: So break down your guys's roles when it comes to
- 2:54Speaker 2: Black Odyssey.
- 2:57Speaker 1: So I approached Alejandro, who's a guitar player. Like I mentioned,
- 3:02Speaker 1: we started as a.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Rock band and that was the name. Was the name
- 3:06Speaker 2: Black Oysty. When you guys were in the band or
- 3:07Speaker 2: you didn't.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Have a name.
- 3:08Speaker 1: I was going by Sam Houston at the time. Its
- 3:11Speaker 1: fucked up, but I was going by Sam.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Houston with the band behind you.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, So I had these tracks.
- 3:18Speaker 1: I'm a producer and a songwriter, but it lacked in
- 3:22Speaker 1: live instrumentation. So I was trying to tap in with
- 3:26Speaker 1: some people in town that that could bring that element.
- 3:30Speaker 1: And his his the way he plays guitar adds a
- 3:34Speaker 1: different live element to the records that goes further than
- 3:38Speaker 1: just guitar playing. So almost like using your instrument to create,
- 3:42Speaker 1: you know, achieve different production things that you can't really
- 3:45Speaker 1: do in the box.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:49Speaker 5: Yeah, you shred shred, but like soulful shred and just
- 3:54Speaker 5: like like you said, atmospheric and like kind of making
- 3:57Speaker 5: the guitar just like a production tool.
- 4:00Speaker 4: And that's definitely evolved as we've evolved.
- 4:02Speaker 3: You know.
- 4:03Speaker 2: You guys like had some big legends on records like
- 4:07Speaker 2: George Clinton, Booty Collins. Obviously that's pretty crazy. How do
- 4:13Speaker 2: you end up making something like that happen?
- 4:16Speaker 1: Man, The commonality between all the hearts because we came
- 4:19Speaker 1: from two totally different worlds. I'm from Plainfield, New Jersey, Right,
- 4:22Speaker 1: That's what Parliament Funkadelics started, and he came from like
- 4:27Speaker 1: a rock background, so I didn't know anything about Rage
- 4:32Speaker 1: against the Machine or I thought led Zeppelin was one
- 4:34Speaker 1: person type.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Shit shit shot the Black Odyssey.
- 4:39Speaker 1: So like, yeah, man, like I learned about that, you know,
- 4:43Speaker 1: world of music, and in turn, I was showing him
- 4:46Speaker 1: D'Angel and I was showing him all that kind of shit.
- 4:49Speaker 1: So we always had a common appreciation for like funk
- 4:54Speaker 1: and like psychedelic music, and that was George Clinton and
- 4:58Speaker 1: Booty College.
- 5:00Speaker 2: What do you guys like, no a cousin who knows him,
- 5:02Speaker 2: or like, how do you get that? I feel like
- 5:04Speaker 2: those are the easiest guys to get ahold.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Of yo that asked we were on We were here
- 5:08Speaker 1: on the trip. This is George Clinton, right, and I've
- 5:13Speaker 1: seen We had been like talking to our label on
- 5:15Speaker 1: our team for a while about trying to type in
- 5:17Speaker 1: with him, and everybody's like, bro's fucking George Clinton, Like
- 5:21Speaker 1: you can't just call him right and it works, right facts.
- 5:24Speaker 1: So I've seen a video of him here for uh yeah,
- 5:30Speaker 1: their star, their star, and I showed him and I
- 5:34Speaker 1: was like, Yo, let's go down there and just go
- 5:35Speaker 1: cold up it to him and talk and we laughed
- 5:38Speaker 1: at all because we wasn't serious. But we was shopping
- 5:40Speaker 1: on Melrose that same day and his nigga just walked
- 5:43Speaker 1: by us and it's fucking like silver trench, Like, yeah,
- 5:48Speaker 1: I didn't even notice who it was at first. I'm like,
- 5:50Speaker 1: that's a funky ass outfit. And I looked and he's
- 5:52Speaker 1: walked by me and I'm like, yo, that's that was
- 5:55Speaker 1: George Joran just walking down Melrose bro It was nuts,
- 5:58Speaker 1: like and that's what I'm saying that it has to
- 5:59Speaker 1: be got, you know what I'm saying. So he's walking
- 6:02Speaker 1: past and I look at all halls and I'm like,
- 6:04Speaker 1: I'm not really kind of nigga that that was like
- 6:07Speaker 1: wait for a celebrity to talk to him. But I'm like,
- 6:10Speaker 1: I have to do this, you feel me. So he
- 6:13Speaker 1: went into the store and was shopping, and I just
- 6:17Speaker 1: waited outside like I was on the phone calls capin.
- 6:19Speaker 3: I wasn't on the phone. I just wanted to see normal.
- 6:21Speaker 1: So I was waiting on the phone, and as soon
- 6:23Speaker 1: as he walked out, I acted like I saw him
- 6:26Speaker 1: by mistake, and then I went up to him and
- 6:28Speaker 1: I started, you know, talking, and he didn't. He wasn't
- 6:31Speaker 1: very responsive. Like I told him I was from Plainfield
- 6:34Speaker 1: and I told him like I knew some people in
- 6:37Speaker 1: his family and shit, and he just kind of was
- 6:39Speaker 1: like yeah, and he just he just I told him
- 6:44Speaker 1: I wanted to work on the record with him, and
- 6:48Speaker 1: I didn't like. I was like that, that's not how
- 6:50Speaker 1: I thought that was gonna turn out.
- 6:51Speaker 2: It didn't go well in your opinion at the time, No,
- 6:54Speaker 2: not at all.
- 6:54Speaker 3: It didn't.
- 6:54Speaker 1: It didn't seem to do anything. Two weeks later, I
- 6:57Speaker 1: told him who we were. I told him the name,
- 7:01Speaker 1: and his daughter was with him too, so I said,
- 7:04Speaker 1: you know the name to his daughter. Two weeks later,
- 7:07Speaker 1: she dms me on Instagram out of nowhere. She's like, yo, George,
- 7:12Speaker 1: George is down to do a record, which played with Ship.
- 7:14Speaker 1: He hears the similarities, like that's what you're doing. George
- 7:18Speaker 1: is down and do a record. So we sent him
- 7:20Speaker 1: the record that day, hopped on FaceTime and.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Pretty much cooler on FaceTime. Yeah, it was.
- 7:26Speaker 1: My dad used to follow him back in the seventies.
- 7:28Speaker 1: So I told him all that and.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Yeah, it was nuts, bro, your dad would go to
- 7:34Speaker 2: like shows and Ship.
- 7:35Speaker 3: He was just follow them. On the road with my mom.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Really, your parents must have been raging high as fuck,
- 7:42Speaker 2: doing all the good drugs.
- 7:44Speaker 3: All of them, bro, all of them. It was nuts.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Paoti shrooms Payot Paoti is like a you know, it's
- 7:52Speaker 2: like a I think it's a cactus, right, Yeah, it's
- 7:56Speaker 2: crazy you eat it and your trip balls. That's what
- 7:59Speaker 2: they like. That's what they used to do, yot. The
- 8:02Speaker 2: mothership connection, the mothership connection? What about Booty Collins?
- 8:07Speaker 3: We just we DM George and we were like, Yo.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Do you know Booty? I mean, do you do you
- 8:12Speaker 2: know his number? Or can you connect me?
- 8:15Speaker 3: Connect you for sure?
- 8:16Speaker 2: No, I'm saying like, hey, thanks for doing the song.
- 8:19Speaker 2: By the way, can you connect it with Booty?
- 8:20Speaker 3: Literally?
- 8:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I was like, yo, can you connect me with Boosy?
- 8:24Speaker 1: He was like yeah, got you just give me a
- 8:27Speaker 1: few days. He did a DM connection and shout, George,
- 8:34Speaker 1: bro huge, I'm telling you, like, this is so much love.
- 8:38Speaker 1: So he connected us and he hit us right. He
- 8:41Speaker 1: hit his back right away, relatively, and he was like, yeah,
- 8:45Speaker 1: I'm down. I think six months went by between responses
- 8:50Speaker 1: and we pretty much figured like that he wasn't going
- 8:52Speaker 1: to do it right, do it? Meaning narrate the whole
- 8:56Speaker 1: record and ship like that. And I as we were
- 9:00Speaker 1: wrapping up the record, we had already tapped him with
- 9:02Speaker 1: Keisha Pump from Grizelda to to to be the narrator
- 9:06Speaker 1: of our of our concept album, and we have figured
- 9:10Speaker 1: that that Bouchi wasn't gonna do it because they had
- 9:13Speaker 1: they hadn't responded in six months. But as we're getting
- 9:15Speaker 1: ready to go into mixing for the record, he hits
- 9:18Speaker 1: us and he's like, Yo, y'all still want me to
- 9:19Speaker 1: do this? Can I can do it like tonight? So yeah,
- 9:25Speaker 1: that she just fell in our laps. He just sent
- 9:28Speaker 1: it right back.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Uh are you are you, buddy? Are you like pretty
- 9:32Speaker 2: hip to all the rap ship because you guys getting
- 9:34Speaker 2: Benny the Butcher on records and like you know that.
- 9:38Speaker 4: Man. I mean obviously I just evolved as a person,
- 9:41Speaker 4: especially since moving to Austin, right, you know, because Panama City,
- 9:45Speaker 4: as you know, Southern Alabama just uh, you know, not
- 9:49Speaker 4: as exposed over there.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Fucking get her duns out there. Absolutely, there's some getter
- 9:56Speaker 2: dons in Austin, though I think people forget Austin's to Texas.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Sometimes you're in Austin you're like, oh, this is this
- 10:01Speaker 2: is a vibe and then you're like eve and you're like, oh,
- 10:05Speaker 2: there's some other ship going here.
- 10:07Speaker 1: That's why I think it's cool about him though he
- 10:09Speaker 1: doesn't give a fuck. We could be in a room
- 10:10Speaker 1: with Freddy. He was in a room with Freddy. I
- 10:12Speaker 1: didn't even think he really knew who he was. It's
- 10:14Speaker 1: just like, what's up exactly what do you do? Yeah?
- 10:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that's school as fun.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Who's in charge of the artwork, Because your guys' artwork
- 10:23Speaker 2: is super dope. It's very consistent in terms of like
- 10:26Speaker 2: colors and I feel like vibe, Like I think that's
- 10:29Speaker 2: like what caught me initially was just like, oh ship
- 10:31Speaker 2: like because I feel like that's kind of like your
- 10:34Speaker 2: first impression for anybody you know, is that? Is that?
- 10:37Speaker 2: Do you handle that? Do you guys handle that together?
- 10:39Speaker 1: It's collectively my manager over there, Like it's something that
- 10:42Speaker 1: we all sit down as a team and look at,
- 10:45Speaker 1: like we we discussed what we want to capture in
- 10:49Speaker 1: a still, and like we brained him different ways to
- 10:53Speaker 1: do it.
- 10:53Speaker 2: You guys said up photo shoots for that and then
- 10:55Speaker 2: just go through a bunch of options.
- 10:56Speaker 3: And yeah, for sure. This particul the album cover.
- 11:01Speaker 1: It's like an erotic novel, so we wanted to like
- 11:04Speaker 1: capture the the the picture of like lusting and like
- 11:09Speaker 1: not being able to escape your addictions and it's still so.
- 11:13Speaker 2: So that's the theme of this new album. Yeah, erotic.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Have you guys ever read any erotic novels as a
- 11:18Speaker 2: point of reference?
- 11:19Speaker 3: Never?
- 11:19Speaker 1: Never, I've seen Fifty Shades Are Great? Now, Yeah, that's
- 11:22Speaker 1: all I need. Terrible movie, really bad, like all time bad.
- 11:26Speaker 3: So many bitsches in there though, so I was like, I'm.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Gone, Yeah, definitely for the theater. The theater is definitely.
- 11:33Speaker 2: I just I can't speak to the movie it was.
- 11:34Speaker 2: I was expecting a lot because the book was so popping.
- 11:38Speaker 2: Now that ship was cheeks bro.
- 11:39Speaker 3: It was weird.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Weird. What's worse, Fifty Shades Are Great? Or The Weekend's
- 11:43Speaker 2: new show?
- 11:44Speaker 3: I didn't see that. I saw this clip of him
- 11:46Speaker 3: being tough earlier.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I just watched the first episode a couple days ago,
- 11:51Speaker 2: and I loved the Weekend and I hope it gets better.
- 11:53Speaker 2: But the first episode was crazy. What is it called
- 11:56Speaker 2: thee Yeah, I'm gonna watch it.
- 11:58Speaker 3: I've been I've been a fit.
- 12:00Speaker 2: I'm gonna stick with it. I'm in.
- 12:02Speaker 4: But early episode was fifty shades and great, right, wow,
- 12:08Speaker 4: that's right, Yeah, that's that's what. It really got me
- 12:11Speaker 4: into the weekend for sure. Really, but then Chos just yeah,

- 15:48Speaker 2: That motherfucker looks like he's related to Nicole Jokic. Bro,

- 16:41Speaker 2: I'm in Jersey.
- 16:42Speaker 3: Is he is he from Jersey too?
- 16:45Speaker 2: Drew Sky? Yeah? Which Drew Sky we talking about?
- 16:48Speaker 3: There's some the funny one.
- 16:50Speaker 2: No no, no, no, no, I was in Jersey Jersey City.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Is that where we were?
- 16:58Speaker 3: Yeah, Jersey City out there.

- 17:03Speaker 2: We're in there. Oh yeah, he took, He took well,
- 17:07Speaker 2: and he took He bought a honey pack. Right, Did

- 17:37Speaker 3: That's amazing. That was crazy. That was like the Truman Show.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Yeah, well, you know, if you go to the gas station,
- 17:44Speaker 2: they have like the magic packs of honey and then
- 17:47Speaker 2: they also have like the Rhino pills, the Blue Rhino.
- 17:51Speaker 3: I don't be in that section.
- 17:53Speaker 2: It's it's it's where you check.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Out, Yeah, like the Horny Goat we and all that
- 17:56Speaker 3: all that shit.

- 18:11Speaker 2: on deck and use the promo goo blutleg and get
- 18:13Speaker 2: a month supply for free.
- 18:15Speaker 3: Is that yo? That is crazy.
- 18:20Speaker 2: I was gonna say for you, like, uh, you know,
- 18:22Speaker 2: because because the Benny record came out last year, right
- 18:24Speaker 2: the last hour, what's it like getting on you know,
- 18:28Speaker 2: kind of getting one of the elite mcs and this
- 18:30Speaker 2: ship too to bless because that's the record George was
- 18:33Speaker 2: on too, right m M yeah, what was that process?
- 18:36Speaker 2: Like you guys are both obviously, I guess well he's
- 18:39Speaker 2: on deaf Jam now, but you know, label made issues shit.
- 18:43Speaker 1: I mean, the common thread is definitely NeiMa, Like he's
- 18:45Speaker 1: he's fucking damn there, Steve Nash at this point.
- 18:49Speaker 2: Bro, Like, definitely a Steve Nash type of guy.
- 18:51Speaker 3: Yeah, he's crazy.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Like I linked up with Benny and we had just
- 18:56Speaker 1: followed each other on Instagram and we spoke both East
- 19:01Speaker 1: Coast niggas saw. I feel like the synergy was already there,
- 19:05Speaker 1: but once Nima got involved in and just made it happen,
- 19:08Speaker 1: it was pretty easy.
- 19:09Speaker 3: He did it real quick. He killed it.
- 19:11Speaker 2: You're pretty big on a lot of the Griselda shit,
- 19:13Speaker 2: all of it.
- 19:13Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, Conway is probably my favorite there. Benny.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Conway's my face everybody. I mean, I love all those guys,
- 19:19Speaker 2: but Conway's.
- 19:20Speaker 3: Nigga wrap his ass off, bro, and.
- 19:22Speaker 2: He like makes you feel like you're like, damn, I.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Want to produce for him. That's that's probably the main person.
- 19:28Speaker 1: I want to What do you produce on logic? Prox logic?
- 19:31Speaker 2: Yeah, so you've been doing that for a minute, because
- 19:34Speaker 2: I feel like anybody who does sh it on logic,
- 19:36Speaker 2: like that's what they learned on and that's just what they're.
- 19:38Speaker 3: On, Like I can't move.
- 19:39Speaker 1: I started in twenty fifteen and I looked at Ableton
- 19:42Speaker 1: and that shit looked like fucking airplane.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Yeah, able to able To, Like I feel like when
- 19:48Speaker 2: you look at Ableton, it looks very intimidating.
- 19:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:51Speaker 1: It just doesn't make sense the interface to me, like
- 19:54Speaker 1: you know, yeah, exactly, it doesn't make sense to me
- 19:58Speaker 1: at all.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Yeah, Like logic makes sense. Facts, yeah, pro tools make sense.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Even even fruit loops. You'll look at it and you'll
- 20:05Speaker 2: be like, oh, I see what they did there.
- 20:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:09Speaker 2: No, in facts, she'll see pro tools or you'll see
- 20:12Speaker 2: fruit loops and you'll be like, I see it. I
- 20:15Speaker 2: get it. No, but Ableton is the one where.
- 20:17Speaker 3: You're just like, this ship looks like, yeah, it doesn't
- 20:20Speaker 3: make sense.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Trigonometry, bro, Yeah you know what I mean.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Like physics, you do so much on it, Like I
- 20:27Speaker 1: feel like if I learned how to use it, I
- 20:28Speaker 1: would be such And.
- 20:30Speaker 2: Then I don't understand the touch thing, Like there's like
- 20:32Speaker 2: the big thing they sell and it's just got eight
- 20:34Speaker 2: hundred buttons. What do I do with this? Yeah, it's
- 20:37Speaker 2: not practical, and I'll be seeing like shots of the
- 20:40Speaker 2: people on TikTok shooting fake producer videos. You're fucking NPC
- 20:45Speaker 2: ain't hooked up full of shit, You're just pressing buttons.
- 20:48Speaker 2: The beats already been made, you know what I'm talking about.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Oh yeah, And then there's the DJs who like there's
- 20:54Speaker 2: nothing plugged in, like what are we doing here?
- 20:56Speaker 3: Like, bro, I ain't gonna lie. I've done that a
- 20:57Speaker 3: couple of times with the beats.
- 20:59Speaker 1: I did a J set where the whole ship was
- 21:01Speaker 1: done in logic already. You just press play, just press play,
- 21:04Speaker 1: And I was up there on.
- 21:06Speaker 2: But you know what, that's at least I respect that
- 21:08Speaker 2: because you at least put the set together.
- 21:10Speaker 3: Yeah. Oh, this transition was crazy.
- 21:12Speaker 2: And a lot of a lot of the bigger EDM
- 21:15Speaker 2: DJs that's what they do, but they do it.
- 21:17Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Yeah.
- 21:18Speaker 2: I've watched like I won't say their names, but like
- 21:20Speaker 2: in Vegas, I've watched like some of the biggest DJs
- 21:23Speaker 2: in the world just their computer is an Ableton session yep,
- 21:27Speaker 2: and they just press play. Yeah. Hey look, yeah, uh,
- 21:34Speaker 2: you guys got any tour stuff on the way?
- 21:36Speaker 3: Yep? We start in September during US and Europe Canada, Are.
- 21:40Speaker 2: You guys excited to go out. Yeah. Sure, that's where
- 21:44Speaker 2: we thrive for sure. So is it just YouTube? Do
- 21:46Speaker 2: you guys bring a full, full, full band?
- 21:49Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 21:49Speaker 2: I feel like the full band is definitely like especially
- 21:52Speaker 2: it's got to be the key man because I feel
- 21:53Speaker 2: like when I first saw the Roots, I was twelve, wow,
- 21:56Speaker 2: and I was like, this is the crazy shit I've
- 21:58Speaker 2: ever seen like hip hop band, Like you know. I mean,
- 22:02Speaker 2: obviously there's been more incarnations of that since I was twelve,
- 22:05Speaker 2: but at the time when I was twelve, it was
- 22:07Speaker 2: kind of crazy to see, right.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I love to see the younger like kids feel
- 22:12Speaker 1: that for the first time. When we dropped Black Vinces,
- 22:14Speaker 1: a lot of those kids fucked with it a lot.
- 22:16Speaker 1: It's reminiscent of Outcasts and Kendrick. So they came to
- 22:19Speaker 1: the show, but they hadn't they had been going to
- 22:21Speaker 1: other shows, so they hadn't seen like off of ups
- 22:24Speaker 1: come out and they're doing full orchestrated you know, run
- 22:28Speaker 1: through the whole show.
- 22:29Speaker 2: So I was gonna say, for the type of music
- 22:30Speaker 2: you guys are making, I feel like there's definitely like
- 22:32Speaker 2: a huge lane now as to where maybe when you
- 22:35Speaker 2: first started or even like three or four or five
- 22:37Speaker 2: years ago, it was kind of like an underground niche
- 22:40Speaker 2: lane as to where now like guys like the sole
- 22:44Speaker 2: election radio guys and kind of there's like this lane
- 22:47Speaker 2: of just like great soulful music that is finally kind
- 22:52Speaker 2: of coming to the forefront, you know what I mean.
- 22:54Speaker 1: We're still trying to find our tribe too, bro Like,
- 22:56Speaker 1: it's difficult with this kind of music because it's not
- 22:59Speaker 1: applicable to like the quick shit like TikTok is. It's
- 23:02Speaker 1: not gonna work there, man Like, it's not necessarily like
- 23:06Speaker 1: prone to go viral. It's definitely something that people have
- 23:09Speaker 1: to you know ingest that's why the live show is important,
- 23:11Speaker 1: right exactly. But the the question is like how do
- 23:14Speaker 1: you get more people to get to the live show.
- 23:16Speaker 3: So we're still trying to find our tribe.
- 23:18Speaker 1: I mean, our fan base has grown tremendously, you know,
- 23:21Speaker 1: on a global level in the last two years at
- 23:25Speaker 1: Blackoutis has existed to the world, but we're still trying
- 23:30Speaker 1: to like crack that code.
- 23:31Speaker 3: You feel me?
- 23:32Speaker 2: All right, Listen, I'm on vacation. We're cutting commercials live
- 23:36Speaker 2: from Mexico. We're on the beach, dammit to check this out, man,
- 23:40Speaker 2: don't forget it's summertime. You gotta go to blue Choo
- 23:44Speaker 2: bluetoo dot com from a code bootleg. All right, that's
- 23:48Speaker 2: gonna get you a free month supply, same active ingredient
- 23:52Speaker 2: as Biagrant and Cialis. Of course, the best part about
- 23:56Speaker 2: Bluetoo is it gets you jack super hard. What are
- 23:58Speaker 2: we talking about?
- 23:59Speaker 3: All right?
- 24:00Speaker 2: If you're dealing with the rectile dysfunction, do the stress
- 24:02Speaker 2: to do to I don't know whatever is going on mentally,
- 24:05Speaker 2: it happens too. You can get that eed fixed blue
- 24:08Speaker 2: cheo promo code bootleg three months supplied blue Choo dot Com.
- 24:15Speaker 2: Also want to shout out to the family at odd Socks, Baby,
- 24:19Speaker 2: that's right, shout out to odd Socks. They got all
- 24:21Speaker 2: kind of crazy new licenses. They just dropped Man Transformers,
- 24:25Speaker 2: they got the Hasbro licenses, now power Ranger socks. Of course,
- 24:29Speaker 2: they just did the Coca Cola earlier this year. Of course,
- 24:32Speaker 2: the most comfortable socks in the world. Go to odd
- 24:35Speaker 2: Socks Official dot com, use that promo code bootleg and
- 24:37Speaker 2: save twenty percent off odd Socksofficial dot com. What has
- 24:41Speaker 2: been the biggest like uphill battle? You think that you've
- 24:44Speaker 2: had to deal with in terms of that because the
- 24:45Speaker 2: music is so.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Great, Bro's it's like we spend you know, an insane
- 24:51Speaker 1: amount of time on the music and the details in
- 24:54Speaker 1: it storytelling, and I guess the biggest uphill battle has
- 24:59Speaker 1: been like the people that it does come across the
- 25:04Speaker 1: language is pretty consistently saying this is the best shit
- 25:06Speaker 1: I've heard in decades. This is like this, this reminds
- 25:09Speaker 1: me it's the best album. But it's it's trying to
- 25:13Speaker 1: get it in front of more people and trying to
- 25:15Speaker 1: figure out the ways because I'm so appreciative of you
- 25:18Speaker 1: like tapping in with us, because it's tough to get
- 25:20Speaker 1: people to like.
- 25:21Speaker 2: I thought I was just tapping in with you. I
- 25:22Speaker 2: didn't know there wasn't US, So I'm glad that there's
- 25:25Speaker 2: an US.
- 25:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Yeah, do you guys get that a lot? By the way, yeah,
- 25:31Speaker 2: every day. I was like, we try to keep the
- 25:33Speaker 2: project serious though, that's what I say, you guys like,
- 25:36Speaker 2: it's definitely like you guys have a very mysterious brand.
- 25:40Speaker 2: So I guess you can't be surprised if people don't
- 25:43Speaker 2: understand kind of the full dynamics, because if they're just
- 25:45Speaker 2: passive fans and they're like, yo, I came up because
- 25:47Speaker 2: I mean, you guys have some records that have done
- 25:50Speaker 2: well on the streaming side. You know, for sure, who
- 25:53Speaker 2: would for you, like, would there be any sort of
- 25:56Speaker 2: like dream collaboration that you are working on or want
- 26:01Speaker 2: to see happen soon within within reason? You know, everybody
- 26:04Speaker 2: wants to work with Andre three thousands and you know
- 26:06Speaker 2: I knew, by the way, he's got a new album
- 26:11Speaker 2: on the way, Killer Mike said that.
- 26:12Speaker 3: I was just saying that on the way here.
- 26:14Speaker 2: Yeah, Killer Mike's new albums fired too, by the way, Crazy, Yeah, incredible.
- 26:18Speaker 3: I got to listen to the whole thing, but yeah,
- 26:20Speaker 3: he's incredible.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Dream collaboration, Andre, Yeah, I mean I see it happening
- 26:26Speaker 1: for sure, and Kendrick as well. I see that for
- 26:28Speaker 1: sure coming through. Uh. As far as like production though,
- 26:32Speaker 1: because we're a production dude. We just finished executive producing
- 26:36Speaker 1: Rahap City's new album.
- 26:37Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and she's on she on this album for
- 26:40Speaker 2: the last album. She's on this album.
- 26:42Speaker 3: Two features to.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Rhaps she's one of them. Once Crazy and you guys
- 26:47Speaker 2: work with the Alchemist. Yeah, so what was that? Did
- 26:50Speaker 2: he handled the full production on that one, and you
- 26:52Speaker 2: just kind of did your thing out.
- 26:53Speaker 3: He sent he sent the record.
- 26:55Speaker 1: I had sent him a joint and I was like, yo,
- 26:59Speaker 1: like I want to do a switch up right here,
- 27:01Speaker 1: and I want you to beat to come in. And
- 27:03Speaker 1: I sent to him and he was like, Yo, the
- 27:04Speaker 1: ship that you have there is crazy? Are you sure
- 27:06Speaker 1: you want to? I was like, bro, to work with
- 27:08Speaker 1: you would be what we need, right. So he sent
- 27:12Speaker 1: a bunch of stuff back, and he's very hard to
- 27:15Speaker 1: get in touch with it, so I know then I
- 27:18Speaker 1: didn't hear.
- 27:19Speaker 3: From him for a while.
- 27:19Speaker 1: So we just threw some stuff over it and sent
- 27:23Speaker 1: it back to him and he was working with it.
- 27:24Speaker 1: He threw a couple more things.
- 27:25Speaker 2: In it, and did you shred over? It's some Alchemists?
- 27:29Speaker 3: That was actually the song that I got to shred
- 27:30Speaker 3: over crazy. Yeah it's him.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Yeah, it's them talking like having this like psychedelic sexual conversation.
- 27:38Speaker 2: And you're shredding in the background.
- 27:39Speaker 3: Yeah, it's discussing.
- 27:41Speaker 2: Would you consider it? I feel like your music is
- 27:43Speaker 2: very solid music to shroom too.
- 27:47Speaker 3: For sure?
- 27:47Speaker 2: Is that fair?
- 27:48Speaker 3: Absolutely? Or fun?
- 27:51Speaker 4: Like?
- 27:51Speaker 2: I feel like I'm like a like I do enjoy
- 27:54Speaker 2: mushrooms heavily, and I feel like when I hear your
- 27:56Speaker 2: guys are ship, I'm like, man, there's some shit I
- 27:58Speaker 2: can listen to. Like looking at the Star, it's just
- 28:00Speaker 2: fucking yeah, tripping.
- 28:01Speaker 3: Ball to make it take you out there.
- 28:03Speaker 4: It's like cinematic as possible.
- 28:05Speaker 2: So it's like, you guys are like the fucking soulful
- 28:08Speaker 2: tam and Paula. Because I didn't know Tame and Paula
- 28:10Speaker 2: was one dude, So it's kind of the opposite, right,
- 28:11Speaker 2: It's kind of like I always thought Taming Pola was
- 28:14Speaker 2: like thirty motherfuckers, So when I found out it was
- 28:16Speaker 2: one guy, my whole world melted.
- 28:19Speaker 3: Yeah, that was nuts. When I found out.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Too, I was like, this guy's a maniac.
- 28:23Speaker 3: It's crazy to him.
- 28:24Speaker 2: Man. So you said, Andre, well, you know what's crazy
- 28:28Speaker 2: is like, has anybody from Dreamville reached out to you guys,
- 28:30Speaker 2: because I feel like you guys are definitely like, yeah,
- 28:32Speaker 2: you guys should do dream Bill fast or something.
- 28:35Speaker 1: I think we yeah, yeah, I don't know what happened.
- 28:37Speaker 1: I wanted to do that. They hit us up for
- 28:39Speaker 1: some shit. I don't think I went through. Somebody from
- 28:41Speaker 1: Dreamville did reach out. I got this weird superstition about
- 28:45Speaker 1: signing to artists.
- 28:47Speaker 2: I'm not even talking about that. I just mean like
- 28:48Speaker 2: to work or to collaborate.
- 28:50Speaker 1: I would love to and those are That's what I'm saying, Like,
- 28:52Speaker 1: those are the kind of top ends like that we
- 28:54Speaker 1: would fucking like we would love to have.
- 28:56Speaker 3: We just I don't know. It just feels like at
- 29:00Speaker 3: this point, I mean Earthkake.
- 29:01Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, they talked in with us, but I've been
- 29:05Speaker 1: wanting Cold to see us for a minute.
- 29:07Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 29:08Speaker 2: Jid is incredible. You guys work with Mariva, right, Yeah,
- 29:11Speaker 2: Mariva is a part of a spillage village with Jid
- 29:13Speaker 2: and Black and everybody. So yeah, Mariva's incredible.
- 29:17Speaker 3: Fu bro, She's such a good writer.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Yeah she's crazy.
- 29:21Speaker 3: Yeahs On that.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Shout out to Mariva, I was gonna say, uh, there
- 29:27Speaker 2: is I agree with you on your point about not
- 29:30Speaker 2: signing to an artist, but if there was an artist
- 29:32Speaker 2: assigned too, I feel like it it would be Cold. Yeah,
- 29:34Speaker 2: because I feel like Cole has done such a good
- 29:36Speaker 2: job of like high art integrity artists, and like he's
- 29:41Speaker 2: so out the way that like when you think of Dreamville,
- 29:44Speaker 2: like you think of Cold, but like now I mean, dude,
- 29:47Speaker 2: Jid is fucking massive. Ari Lennox is fucking massive, like
- 29:52Speaker 2: you know, like, and I just feel like he's done
- 29:53Speaker 2: such a good job of like him and Eve over there,
- 29:56Speaker 2: I've done such a good job of building like just
- 29:58Speaker 2: a high high have a roster of talent that isn't
- 30:01Speaker 2: necessarily I'm signing you because you got a fucking hot record.
- 30:05Speaker 2: You know, I'm signing you because I think I believe
- 30:06Speaker 2: in you.
- 30:07Speaker 1: He's so different though, j Cole, like I, he's a
- 30:11Speaker 1: he's an anomaly.
- 30:12Speaker 2: Like for sure. I mean he's part owner of the
- 30:15Speaker 2: sharl Hornets. Now, yeah, Jordan's sold the Hornets to a
- 30:21Speaker 2: group that includes j Cole.
- 30:22Speaker 3: That's fucking incredible.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Three billion or something crazy that cru coreat upward mobility.
- 30:29Speaker 3: Man, that's a generational that he's building.
- 30:32Speaker 2: When you guys are recording with all the attention to detail,
- 30:36Speaker 2: you take, what is the turnaround process? Like, like you guys,
- 30:42Speaker 2: does it take a week to finish the song? Does
- 30:44Speaker 2: it take two weeks to finish it on take a night?
- 30:46Speaker 3: Like?
