- 0:12Hello, friends. It's Sean.
- 0:14Here it is. Thursday.
- 0:16It is that magical day, the 29th of February.
- 0:19This doesn't happen very often. Once every four years on a leap
- 0:23year. And on this day we celebrate the
- 0:26Conroe Olympics, which is basically just an excuse for all
- 0:29of us to excuse ourselves from the outside world.
- 0:33You know, if you're really sick, you just can't go out and do
- 0:36whatever it is that you've got to do.
- 0:37So we figured one day every four years, we get to say no to the
- 0:41outside world. Each choose something really fun
- 0:43to do and then we do those things for the whole day.
- 0:47So this is our conry Olympic day.
- 0:49So sorry friends, you are not going to see us doing what we
- 0:52normally do. It's going to be a good day.
- 0:55And what better way to start today than to read another
- 0:59chapter of this wonderful book of Ephesians where Paul, just
- 1:04with every verse, every sentence is just chock full to the
- 1:08rafters with goodness. So we will turn on our
- 1:12concentration and see how much of this we can absorb as we read
- 1:16through this chapter together. How cool.
- 1:19You ready? Yeah.
- 1:21Lord, whatever lies before us today, let us put that down to
- 1:24come before you to hear your truth, your good news for us.
- 1:31Let's do it. Let's read together.
- 1:33Ephesians Chapter 4. Therefore I, a prisoner for
- 1:48serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your
- 1:52calling if you have been called by God.
- 1:55Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other,
- 1:59making allowances for each other's faults because of your
- 2:02love. Make every effort to keep
- 2:05yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with
- 2:09peace. For there is one body and one
- 2:13spirit, just as you have been called to 1 glorious hope for
- 2:17the future. There is one Lord, one faith,
- 2:22one Baptism, one God and Father of all who is over All in all
- 2:28and living through all. However, He has given each one
- 2:34of us a special gift through the generosity of Christ.
- 2:38That is why the Scriptures say when he ascended to the heights
- 2:42he led a crowd of captives and gave gifts to his people.
- 2:47Notice that it says he ascended. There's clearly means that
- 2:51Christ also descended to our lowly world, and the same one
- 2:56who descended is the one who ascended higher than all the
- 3:00heavens so that He might fill the entire universe with
- 3:04himself. Now these are the gifts Christ
- 3:07gave to the Church, the apostles, the prophets, the
- 3:11evangelists, and the pastors and teachers.
- 3:15Their responsibility is to equip guides, people to do His work
- 3:19and build up the Church, the body of Christ.
- 3:23This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith
- 3:28and knowledge of God's Son that we will be mature in the Lord,
- 3:32measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.
- 3:37Then we will no longer be immature like children.
- 3:40We won't be tossed and blown about by every wind of new
- 3:43teaching. We will not be influenced when
- 3:46people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the
- 3:50truth. Instead, we will speak the truth
- 3:54in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who
- 3:59is the head of His body, the Church.
- 4:01He makes the whole body fit together perfectly.
- 4:05As each part does its own special work.
- 4:08It helps the other parts grow so that the whole body is healthy
- 4:13and growing and full of love with the Lord's authority.
- 4:18I say this live no longer as the Gentiles do, but they are
- 4:23hopelessly confused. Their minds are full of
- 4:26darkness. They wander far from the life
- 4:28God gives because they have closed their minds and hardened
- 4:32their hearts against him. They have no sense of shame.
- 4:36They live for lustful pleasure and eagerly practise every kind
- 4:40of impurity. But that isn't what you learned
- 4:44about Christ. Since you have heard about Jesus
- 4:47and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your
- 4:51old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is
- 4:55corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew
- 5:01your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created
- 5:06to be like God, truly righteous and holy.
- 5:10So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbours the
- 5:13truth, for we are all part of the same body and don't sin by
- 5:18letting anger control you. Don't let the sun go down while
- 5:22you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil.
- 5:27If you are a thief, quit stealing.
- 5:30Instead, use your hands for good hard work and then give
- 5:34generously to others in need. Don't use foul or abusive
- 5:38language. Let everything you say be good
- 5:41and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to
- 5:44those who hear them. And do not bring sorrow to God's
- 5:48Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, He has identified you
- 5:53as His own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of
- 5:57redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage,
- 6:01anger, harsh words and slander, as well as all types of evil
- 6:06behaviour. Instead, be kind to each other's
- 6:10tenderhearted, forgiving one another just as God through
- 6:15Christ has forgiven you, Jesus you call us to a different
- 6:30way of being, a better way of being.
- 6:33You call us to live as children of light and we can only do
- 6:40these things that you ask of us because you did them first.
- 6:45All your words were uplifting and life giving your actions
- 6:51full of love, justice and forgiveness, not afraid of hard
- 6:56work. You came down to earth.
- 7:00You sacrificed everything that you had in the heavenly realms
- 7:04to come here so that we might know you.
- 7:08That really is the most incredible thing.
- 7:12So we praise you, and we pray and ask that you enliven and
- 7:19increase your Holy Spirit in us so that transformed we can truly
- 7:26live as children of Light. That we can share your light in
- 7:31our interactions with the people around us.
- 7:36Thank you for your light that you pour into us, filling us
- 7:41with all these good things so that we can overflow that light
- 7:45into the world around us. We love you and we thank you
- 7:51when we praise you and it's in your name that we pray.
- 7:54Jesus. Ah man.
