- 1:30Speaker 1: I am Chad Mellman, Chief Content Officer of the Action Network.
- 1:34Speaker 1: I am joined as I am every episode by my bff,
- 1:38Speaker 1: my companion, my compadre professional better Simon Hunter. Dude, we
- 1:47Speaker 1: are digging in on your favorite topic today. And I
- 1:52Speaker 1: don't just mean betting on the NFL. Yeah, we're a
- 1:56Speaker 1: bother to talk about my favorite team chat. What a
- 1:58Speaker 1: magical weekend for not just me, also for Chicago. Chad's
- 2:02Speaker 1: bears want to know at the top of the NFC North, Wow,
- 2:06Speaker 1: how's the field? Chad want to know in the division
- 2:09Speaker 1: that many said you guys had no chance in, but
- 2:12Speaker 1: here you sit after week one, only only team undefeated.
- 2:16Speaker 1: And listen, we beat the Kansas City Chiefs unbelieva. It's uh,
- 2:22Speaker 1: it's a huge, huge weekend for us. We're gonna savor it.
- 2:26Speaker 1: We've got some highlights we're gonna own. It could be
- 2:30Speaker 1: the best thing that happens to us all season could
- 2:33Speaker 1: only go down from here. You're right, We're gonna talk
- 2:36Speaker 1: about your favorite team with with a guy who he
- 2:42Speaker 1: symbolizes the NFC East. We have been going through division
- 2:46Speaker 1: by division, the betting odds to win each division, our
- 2:50Speaker 1: favorite bets for each division. Today's guest was an All
- 2:56Speaker 1: Conference offensive lineman at Princeton, but for enjoying a seven
- 3:01Speaker 1: year career in the NFL. Today's radio host. He's a
- 3:04Speaker 1: podcast mobil. He's a game analyst for your Philadelphia Eagles. Simon,
- 3:10Speaker 1: He's become, according to Matt Mitchell, one of the most
- 3:13Speaker 1: refreshing voices and most popular ex athletes in sports media.
- 3:18Speaker 1: You can hear him every week. I'm one of his
- 3:19Speaker 1: several podcasts, including the sports betting show Even Money with Physick,
- 3:25Speaker 1: the World Famix Famous Physik, two time veteran of the
- 3:29Speaker 1: NFC East, Mr Ross Tucker, what's going on, brother? Good
- 3:34Speaker 1: to have you. What's up, dudes? Yeah, you guys have
- 3:36Speaker 1: both been on Even Money. I think Simon's on a
- 3:39Speaker 1: couple of times. Chat. I know you've been on at
- 3:41Speaker 1: least once, so good to return the favor be on
- 3:45Speaker 1: your show. And yes, So my first two teams were
- 3:49Speaker 1: two NFC East teams that were not the team I
- 3:53Speaker 1: grew up adoring, which is the Philadelphia Eagles. I mean literally, chat,
- 3:58Speaker 1: I grew up huge Eagles fan in reading Pennsylvania outside
- 4:02Speaker 1: of Philly. Like, I would go to training camp and
- 4:05Speaker 1: I probably got random Cunningham's autograph at least fifteen times.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Reggie White would get annoyed by me, Keith Jackson, Keith
- 4:14Speaker 1: Fires like those are my guys. So I would go
- 4:16Speaker 1: to west Chester for training camp a couple of times
- 4:19Speaker 1: a year at least, just trying to get as many
- 4:21Speaker 1: autographs I could. You know what's funny, By the way,
- 4:24Speaker 1: I promised myself when I was a little kid at
- 4:26Speaker 1: those training camps that if I ever made the NFL
- 4:30Speaker 1: that I would sign autograph for every kid there, because
- 4:33Speaker 1: I was like, why don't they all just signed for
- 4:35Speaker 1: all of us? Guess what? You know what the reality is,
- 4:38Speaker 1: in all seven of my years I was either competing
- 4:44Speaker 1: to start, which is three of the year, two or
- 4:47Speaker 1: three of the years or four the years I was
- 4:50Speaker 1: battling to make sure I had a roster spot. I
- 4:53Speaker 1: didn't sign any autographs like in my head, okay, in
- 4:57Speaker 1: my head. As soon as practice was over, I needed
- 5:01Speaker 1: to go in shower, cold tub, get back to the
- 5:06Speaker 1: dorm or get back to my bed, get off my feet,
- 5:09Speaker 1: lay down, sleep, get as much rest as I possibly
- 5:13Speaker 1: could before that next practice. To me, signing autographs was
- 5:18Speaker 1: getting in the way of me earning my money and
- 5:22Speaker 1: it was a competitive disadvantage if I signed autographs. So
- 5:26Speaker 1: if anybody sees me now, like anywhere, I'll sign anything
- 5:29Speaker 1: for anybody now. But if you came to training camp,
- 5:33Speaker 1: I'm sorry. I broke my promise, but like I had
- 5:36Speaker 1: a job to do so. And the funny thing is
- 5:38Speaker 1: to Chad that year, the team I wanted to play
- 5:41Speaker 1: for the most when I was in the NFL the Giants,
- 5:46Speaker 1: because my wife, who we were dating, was living in
- 5:51Speaker 1: New York City. I literally called Jim McNally after somebody
- 5:55Speaker 1: cut me maybe the Cowboys. I called Jim mcnalley, the
- 5:58Speaker 1: Giants O line coach, was like, coach, I really, can
- 6:01Speaker 1: you guys pick me up on what I really want
- 6:02Speaker 1: to come to the Giants? Like I don't know, I'm
- 6:04Speaker 1: not understand. I got like my girlfriend lives there. I
- 6:06Speaker 1: really want to come to the Giants and uh so
- 6:09Speaker 1: I got claimed by the Chargers. San Diego Chargers and
- 6:11Speaker 1: the Bills, and literally didn't know where I was going.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Because you guys are gonna love this. They base it
- 6:18Speaker 1: on one loss record from the season before. So my
- 6:22Speaker 1: agent told me that the San Diego Chargers and the
- 6:25Speaker 1: Buffalo Bills had both put in waiver claims for me.
- 6:28Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, so where am I going? He says,
- 6:31Speaker 1: all right, hold on, let me check. I don't know.
- 6:33Speaker 1: They were both eight and eight last year. So I
- 6:36Speaker 1: literally had my bags packed. I was gonna drive to
- 6:39Speaker 1: Buffalo from from Pennsylvania or drive to the airport and
- 6:43Speaker 1: fly to San Diego. And evidently before the draft they
- 6:47Speaker 1: do a coin flip to see who drafts first, and
- 6:51Speaker 1: whoever drafts first also gets first waiver claim. So I
- 6:55Speaker 1: found out at four PM that I was going to Buffalo,
- 6:58Speaker 1: and I got in my car into golf. I drove
- 7:01Speaker 1: six hours of Buffalo right away instead of flying to
- 7:04Speaker 1: San Diego. Like, my whole life could have been different.
- 7:07Speaker 1: I could be in California right now, Like who knows,
- 7:10Speaker 1: it's crazy. You could be loving life, living by the beach,
- 7:14Speaker 1: enjoying a mansion in Lahoya instead, like you get to
- 7:17Speaker 1: brag about having a place on the Jersey Shore. It's
- 7:20Speaker 1: so different. Uh, there's there is a story. There is
- 7:25Speaker 1: a question I do want to ask you before we
- 7:27Speaker 1: get into because I do think it will lead nicely
- 7:30Speaker 1: into the conversation about the NFC East. And since you
- 7:33Speaker 1: are both a former NFL player and someone who hosts
- 7:37Speaker 1: a betting podcast, tell everybody about the time you earned
- 7:42Speaker 1: your one game ball as a member of the Dallas
- 7:46Speaker 1: Cowboys and what happened at your high school reunion. I
- 7:50Speaker 1: got a bunch of game balls, but Chad's right, I
- 7:53Speaker 1: did only get one from my for the Cowboys, which,
- 7:56Speaker 1: by the way, so I started the last seven games
- 7:58Speaker 1: for the Cowboys at Left Garden to thousand and two,
- 8:01Speaker 1: which is amazing because any time I meet like a
- 8:04Speaker 1: Cowboys fan and they say I'm the biggest Cowboys fan
- 8:08Speaker 1: ever ever. Chad Simon I always asked him the same question.
- 8:12Speaker 1: I'm like, Okay, that's cool because they found out, like
- 8:14Speaker 1: I'm a broadcast. I'm like, just out of curiosity, do
- 8:17Speaker 1: you know who who started the last seven games at
- 8:19Speaker 1: Left Garden two thousand two? And they're always Chad. They're
- 8:22Speaker 1: always like, oh, oh I know this. Oh I'm like, dude,
- 8:27Speaker 1: it's me. It's really like, who else would you even
- 8:30Speaker 1: ask you that question? Dude, nobody, It's me just say
- 8:33Speaker 1: you like so Anyway, I started for the Cowboys a
- 8:37Speaker 1: month after Washington and Steve Spurrier cut me in two
- 8:40Speaker 1: thousand two on Thanksgiving, which is probably the biggest football
- 8:45Speaker 1: game I've ever started, right the Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Somebody told me once second highest ratings of any football
- 8:52Speaker 1: game after the Super Bowl. Evidently every television in the
- 8:55Speaker 1: country has the Cowboys Thanksgiving game on. Whether they're watching
- 8:58Speaker 1: it or not, I don't know, but for ratings. So
- 9:01Speaker 1: I'm twenty three years old, I'm starting for the Cowboys.
- 9:04Speaker 1: We win Emmett rush is for over a hundred yards.
- 9:08Speaker 1: He gives me a shout out after the game when
- 9:10Speaker 1: he gets his turkey leg or whatever, which was cool.
- 9:13Speaker 1: But here's the thing. You get the whole weekend off
- 9:16Speaker 1: on a Thursday game, so I get a game ball whatever.
- 9:19Speaker 1: The next morning, I fly back to Philly. My cousin
- 9:23Speaker 1: picks me up. I come back to reading. It's like
- 9:26Speaker 1: an hour. That night is my fifth year high school
- 9:30Speaker 1: class reunion. I'm twenty three years old and I started
- 9:34Speaker 1: for the Dallas Cowboys the day before. You know, the
- 9:37Speaker 1: teachers and the teacher senior year, they're like, all right
- 9:40Speaker 1: down where you want to be for your tenth reunion
- 9:42Speaker 1: or your fifty Like I wouldn't even have I wouldn't
- 9:44Speaker 1: even made that up. Like I started for the Cowboys
- 9:47Speaker 1: the day before, and everybody watched me. It was at
- 9:51Speaker 1: like a Canal Street brew pub in downtown Reading. I
- 9:55Speaker 1: walked in and any girl that wouldn't date me in
- 9:59Speaker 1: high school, and there wasn't that many of them, but
- 10:01Speaker 1: there was a couple. I would just look at them like, Hi, Barbara,
- 10:04Speaker 1: Oh hey Melissa, how are you? How was your Thanksgiving?
- 10:07Speaker 1: What did you do yesterday? Anyway, it was amazing there
- 10:10Speaker 1: any teenagers watching. First of all, you're not supposed to
- 10:12Speaker 1: bet yet, And secondly, I highly recommend starting for the
- 10:16Speaker 1: Cowboys day before your reunion, So try to try to
- 10:19Speaker 1: do that. How tall were you then and what did
- 10:21Speaker 1: you weigh? Six four and a half? Probably like three twelve.
- 10:25Speaker 1: But I know where you're getting at, Chad, And this
- 10:27Speaker 1: is a good point. No, there's a good point. The
- 10:29Speaker 1: reality is what are we looking for all the time
- 10:32Speaker 1: in betting? We're looking for edges? Right? The reality is
- 10:36Speaker 1: there are not a lot of girls looking for three
- 10:39Speaker 1: plus pound guys. Like when they're all getting ready to
- 10:42Speaker 1: go out that night and they're like blow drying their hair.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Never once does one of them say, I just hope
- 10:48Speaker 1: the right three or twenty pound guy come up to
- 10:50Speaker 1: me tonight. Nobody says that that's not how it works.
- 10:54Speaker 1: So it's but you know what, I will say this,
- 10:56Speaker 1: It was very helpful because they're either into it or
- 11:01Speaker 1: not and only about ten or even gonna consider it.
- 11:05Speaker 1: So I go up to it's his numbers game. I
- 11:07Speaker 1: could know right away. I'm like, oh, she's she's she's
- 11:09Speaker 1: not into it at all. Like, forget it, see you later.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Have a good life. Your skinny loser is not gonna
- 11:14Speaker 1: be as cool as me. But have fun with him.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Oh yeah, six pack, that's great. That's great. That will
- 11:19Speaker 1: last real long in life. So anyway, um, what were
- 11:22Speaker 1: there any jerks who like dudes who came up to
- 11:28Speaker 1: you or like, I don't care you're six four three,
- 11:31Speaker 1: I'll still beat the funk out of you. No two things, though.
- 11:35Speaker 1: One is one guy who I won't mention brought up
- 11:39Speaker 1: the fact that I gave up a sack to Bruce Smith.
- 11:42Speaker 1: The day before on Thanksgiving, which by the way, is
- 11:45Speaker 1: now one of my claims to fame. Bruce Smith had
- 11:47Speaker 1: two career sacks NFL record. It's only one without me, Bro,
- 11:52Speaker 1: he doesn't get to two hundred unless I wish think
- 11:55Speaker 1: about that. Okay, so it's only one night nine without me.
- 12:00Speaker 1: So anyway, So he brought up that I tried to
- 12:02Speaker 1: cut Bruce and missed. I'm just like, what do you
- 12:05Speaker 1: even talk You didn't even make the high school basketball team.
- 12:07Speaker 1: What are you even talking about right now? But no,
- 12:11Speaker 1: nobody ever like to only two stories ever, Chad that
- 12:16Speaker 1: that are that are like that one time I'm at
- 12:18Speaker 1: a bar and reading and a guy because that to
- 12:20Speaker 1: me goes, uh hey, I went back and watched my
- 12:24Speaker 1: high school video against you, and I did pretty good
- 12:28Speaker 1: against you actually, and I was like, man, that is awesome.
- 12:31Speaker 1: That is really cool. Do you want me to like
- 12:33Speaker 1: sign something that says that for you? Like, like, like
- 12:36Speaker 1: whatever you want me to do, buddy, Like you want
- 12:37Speaker 1: you write down I did pretty good against Ross Tucker
- 12:40Speaker 1: in a high school game. I will sign that for
- 12:42Speaker 1: whatever you want. And then one time some guy wanted
- 12:44Speaker 1: to arm wrestle me real bad when I was in
- 12:47Speaker 1: the NFL, and this guy was like yoked for arms
- 12:51Speaker 1: and he kept like like trying to goad me into it,
- 12:54Speaker 1: like come on, I'm like, dude, there's no there's no
- 12:56Speaker 1: value in that for me. No, Like, first of all,
- 12:58Speaker 1: you look like you can beat me in arm wrestling
- 13:00Speaker 1: tech only. I don't want to like Caro ligament in
- 13:02Speaker 1: my elbow, Like no, if you want me to SIGNCE,
- 13:04Speaker 1: I mean it says you're a better arm wrestler than me,
- 13:06Speaker 1: Like I'll do that. So he kept trying to be
- 13:08Speaker 1: nice about it, and then finally he was like yeah,
- 13:12Speaker 1: because you know I beat the I kicked the you
- 13:15Speaker 1: know what out of you or something like that. Like
- 13:16Speaker 1: he really got testy then, because this is probably his gag, right,
- 13:20Speaker 1: Like that was how he got girls. Is like he
- 13:23Speaker 1: go up to the biggest guy beat him in arm
- 13:26Speaker 1: wrestling and like that was like I wasn't gonna get
- 13:29Speaker 1: give him his his satisfaction. Listen, there's an important question
- 13:33Speaker 1: which I think Simon I both want to know. How
- 13:36Speaker 1: can any of your NFL experiences help us figure out
- 13:42Speaker 1: whether or not the Cowboys are a good bet to
- 13:45Speaker 1: win the division? Right now, their odds to win the
- 13:48Speaker 1: division Cording to FanDuel plus onety five, those are the
- 13:52Speaker 1: shortest odds to win the division win total ten and
- 13:56Speaker 1: a half. Give us your take. Yeah, I don't think
- 14:02Speaker 1: they're a good bet to win the division at all.
- 14:06Speaker 1: I like the under actually for the Cowboys. So let
- 14:10Speaker 1: me take Let me say one thing. Okay, because I
- 14:13Speaker 1: work for the Eagles now and do their preseason games,
- 14:17Speaker 1: people think I'm biased or I'm a homer or whatever
- 14:23Speaker 1: not when it comes to betting, like, I will tell
- 14:26Speaker 1: you exactly what I think. Okay, the Cowboys are not
- 14:32Speaker 1: as good as a team as they were last year.
- 14:35Speaker 1: It would be impossible to make the argument that they are.
- 14:39Speaker 1: First of all, they lose a Marie Cooper, Seene Lamb's
- 14:43Speaker 1: great A. Mark Cooper is still probably their best receiver
- 14:45Speaker 1: last year. Gallop. We'll come back at some point off
- 14:51Speaker 1: of pup, but we don't know when that is. That's
- 14:55Speaker 1: not good that they're not as good at receiver. We'll
- 14:58Speaker 1: see if there are any better on the old line.
- 15:00Speaker 1: But they're replacing Connor Williams, who's decent with a rookie
- 15:04Speaker 1: and Tyler Smith or maybe Connor McGovern. They also lost
- 15:07Speaker 1: their right tackle, Lyle Collins, and then so they're not.
- 15:10Speaker 1: They don't any depth of tackle now, So Terrence Steele,
- 15:13Speaker 1: who was the swing guy, is now the starter. He's
- 15:16Speaker 1: not as good as Lyle Collins. So we can definitively
- 15:19Speaker 1: say at at least two positions, they're worse wide receiver
- 15:25Speaker 1: that Amari Cooper. Right tackle. They might be worse at
- 15:28Speaker 1: left guard. They might be worse at number three receiver
- 15:32Speaker 1: with Gallops injury. The early returns on Jalen Tilbert where good.
- 15:35Speaker 1: He's a rookie from South Alabama. I'm not putting a
- 15:38Speaker 1: lot of stock in him this year. So offensively they're
- 15:41Speaker 1: clearly worse. Defensively, they lose Randy Gregory, who had a
- 15:47Speaker 1: good year for them. Maybe you call that, like ah,
- 15:52Speaker 1: a fair trade. Even Stephen with Sam Williams, the rookie
- 15:56Speaker 1: from All miss We'll see they had seventeen allies in
- 16:00Speaker 1: their first preseason game I played for them. You talk
- 16:04Speaker 1: about insight, Chad, there's a lack of accountability within the organization. Okay,
- 16:11Speaker 1: how about after the playoff loss to the Niners, McCarthy
- 16:16Speaker 1: comes in. All he does is complaining about the refs.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Dak Prescott finds out that they were throwing stuff at
- 16:23Speaker 1: the refs, not the Marcus Lawrence and says, well, then
- 16:26Speaker 1: good for them. Like the total lack of accountability in
- 16:31Speaker 1: the organization has been there since I was there. It
- 16:34Speaker 1: was when I was there, like they would feed you
- 16:37Speaker 1: like fried chicken and mashed potatoes for lunch, and they
- 16:40Speaker 1: would pay roll deducted from your check. Played for five
- 16:43Speaker 1: NFL teams. The Dallas Cowboys, worth the zillion billion dollars,
- 16:48Speaker 1: charged a hundred for the dollars a week for lunch.
- 16:52Speaker 1: I was like, well, what if I just bring like
- 16:54Speaker 1: a turkey sandwich on wheat bread something like. I'm like,
- 16:57Speaker 1: this is garbage and I'm paying for it. This is terrible.
- 17:01Speaker 1: So that's why the Cowboys are not a good bet
- 17:04Speaker 1: to win the division. That's why I like the under
- 17:08Speaker 1: for the Dallas Cowboys at ten and a half. So, Simon,
- 17:13Speaker 1: that is really good. By the way, the lack of accountability,
- 17:16Speaker 1: we all see it all the time. Uh, none of
- 17:20Speaker 1: us are fans of Mike McCarthy. Simon, I got a
- 17:23Speaker 1: pretty good idea of how you feel about the Cowboys
- 17:25Speaker 1: right now. But but light us up a little bit. Yeah,
- 17:28Speaker 1: I agree with so much. For a raw sentence, it's
- 17:31Speaker 1: really about what are you talking about? The old line.
- 17:33Speaker 1: That's my biggest glaring issue I've seen with this team.
- 17:35Speaker 1: It's that's a big deal, right loon, Losing Collins is
- 17:38Speaker 1: a big deal the right tackle position. So you know, Dak,
- 17:43Speaker 1: I can't really knock him right. He's done well during
- 17:45Speaker 1: the regular season. We've just seen him not performing the playoffs.
- 17:48Speaker 1: They have what three playoff wins since the two thousands,
- 17:51Speaker 1: So it's it's just tough to really have faith in
- 17:54Speaker 1: the Dallas team that we've seen time and time again.
- 17:56Speaker 1: They have talent, but there's always something missing. Either you
- 17:58Speaker 1: can blame on the head coach, you can blame on
- 18:00Speaker 1: the quarterback. There's just always something missing with this Dallas team.
- 18:03Speaker 1: And we know the history of the NFC East, there
- 18:05Speaker 1: has been a repeat divisional winner over twenty years. So
- 18:09Speaker 1: just going basic math, you're you're taking a bad number
- 18:13Speaker 1: on this Dallas team, right, like this should be closer
- 18:15Speaker 1: to the Eagles than it is. Just a simple fact
- 18:17Speaker 1: that Dallas one last year. It's the Cowboys. They've just
- 18:19Speaker 1: been bet up to this point where they plus one
- 18:22Speaker 1: thirty five plus one thirty So yeah, yeah, I just
- 18:25Speaker 1: I just don't think it's a smart bet to take Dallas.
- 18:27Speaker 1: I do like they're under. They feel like a tenant seven,
- 18:30Speaker 1: nine and eight kind of team this year, where we
- 18:32Speaker 1: just expect them to take a step back last year.
- 18:35Speaker 1: If people don't remember, go back and watch Dak through
- 18:38Speaker 1: their first eight games. Out of this world talent wise,
- 18:41Speaker 1: Like this kid could not miss simple fact you just
- 18:43Speaker 1: talked about. You have gallop, it's ceedee lamb. You had
- 18:45Speaker 1: a Mark Cooper as his three receivers. It's just gonna
- 18:48Speaker 1: be different this year. So I do like the Cowboys.
- 18:51Speaker 1: I just don't like him at this price. I would
- 18:53Speaker 1: not bet any of their over bets. So for me
- 18:56Speaker 1: time and a half, that's a good bet. Bet they're under.
- 18:59Speaker 1: You know what's interesting, We spent five minutes talking about
- 19:02Speaker 1: the Dallas Cowboys. Not one person here has mentioned the
- 19:08Speaker 1: highest paid running back in the NFL, Ezekie Elliott. Yeah,
- 19:12Speaker 1: he's I have the best running back on his own team.
- 19:14Speaker 1: So not much to say about the guy right now. Well,
- 19:17Speaker 1: that's that's a whole other thing, Chad, which is that's
- 19:20Speaker 1: a great example of the lack of accountability, Like they're
- 19:23Speaker 1: gonna keep giving him the ball just because they gave
- 19:25Speaker 1: that contract everybody. My mom could tell you that Tony
- 19:29Speaker 1: Pollard has more juice than Zeke Elliott. Okay, my mom
- 19:33Speaker 1: only watches the start of the game. If I'm on
- 19:35Speaker 1: to see me on TV for twenty seconds, that's it.
- 19:37Speaker 1: And she could tell you that who I thought you
- 19:40Speaker 1: were gonna mention? Who we should who grew up like
- 19:44Speaker 1: a mile from where I am right now. Mica Parson's
- 19:47Speaker 1: Mica Parsons is the best thing the Cowboys have going
- 19:50Speaker 1: right now. I love Mike McCarthy, Like we think he's
- 19:54Speaker 1: poised for a for a huge jump here in year two. Hey, Mike,
- 19:59Speaker 1: he got second in the Defensive Player of the Year
- 20:02Speaker 1: voting in the entire league? How high you think he's jumping? Bro?
- 20:06Speaker 1: Big jump? Like? What do you? What are you talking about?
- 20:10Speaker 1: Mike McCarthy is not long for that job? How and
- 20:13Speaker 1: where can I bet Sean Payton to be the Cowboys
- 20:16Speaker 1: head coach? That's what I would want to do. NFL

- 22:09Speaker 1: you love the Eagles. You are a broadcaster for the Eagles.
- 22:13Speaker 1: I am actually shocked that the Eagles are plus one seventy.
- 22:19Speaker 1: The total is nine and a half. I can't find anybody,
- 22:22Speaker 1: Simon you start who looks at this division and says, oh, yeah,
- 22:27Speaker 1: I wouldn't bet the Eagles, or I wouldn't bet there
- 22:29Speaker 1: over nine and a half, especially in comparison to the Cowboys. Yeah,
- 22:33Speaker 1: A little scary because it's not only pros that loved
- 22:35Speaker 1: them this year. That's the fantasy guys, right. We had
- 22:37Speaker 1: chriss On couldn't stop talking about how much he liked
- 22:39Speaker 1: Hurts and what he was talking about on their show,
- 22:42Speaker 1: so I know him and Shaun are on the whole
- 22:44Speaker 1: Eagles trained too. But you know, it's funny looking back
- 22:47Speaker 1: about a month ago and I went on Ross's show,
- 22:49Speaker 1: I just talked about this Eagles D line is arguably
- 22:52Speaker 1: one of the top two, top three d lines in
- 22:54Speaker 1: all of football. I took a lot of heat from
- 22:56Speaker 1: it because I don't think enough people are really looking
- 22:58Speaker 1: into this team and that you know, they're like a
- 23:00Speaker 1: last year's statue, like, oh, they're thirty one and sack
- 23:02Speaker 1: rate this year. This Eagles team, the starters from last year.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Brandon Graham, he's our He's the second guy in right,
- 23:09Speaker 1: they have a guy sweat. They have Reddeck ahead of
- 23:11Speaker 1: him on the D line. I don't know if you've
- 23:13Speaker 1: seen this kid, Chad Jered Davis from Georgia, the first
- 23:17Speaker 1: round thick the Eagles took. I mean, the kid is
- 23:20Speaker 1: I don't know, three thirty three forty six six and
- 23:24Speaker 1: ran a four seven forty. So it's just like watching
- 23:27Speaker 1: this kid in the field, seeing him take up the
- 23:29Speaker 1: doubles and letting Fletcher Cock gets single, Fletcher Cox be
- 23:32Speaker 1: single blocked. That's what I'm looking for, right, I'm looking
- 23:35Speaker 1: for an Eagles team that how he builds it, right,
- 23:38Speaker 1: he builds it on the d line, he builds on
- 23:39Speaker 1: the offensive line. So looking at this division at every
- 23:43Speaker 1: position I look at, the Eagles is the best in
- 23:45Speaker 1: this division every position except quarterback. Right. I still give
- 23:48Speaker 1: that the deck because Doc has a proven track record.
- 23:50Speaker 1: But we just saw Hurts and every one preseason game
- 23:52Speaker 1: he went six or six driving down the field and
- 23:54Speaker 1: never threw the ball to a J. Brown on the
- 23:56Speaker 1: sport and they scored a touchdown. That's what I wanted
- 23:58Speaker 1: to see from Hurt. So to me, I was already
- 24:00Speaker 1: hyped about the Eagles. I took them up plus two hundred.
- 24:03Speaker 1: That s a reason I'll tell people not to bet
- 24:05Speaker 1: them divisionally. Right now they're at plus one seventy. Me
- 24:08Speaker 1: and chat, we're gonna talk about Week one. We we
- 24:09Speaker 1: like the lines. That's what you're looking for right at
- 24:12Speaker 1: this point. You're looking for. If the Eagles could drop
- 24:14Speaker 1: Week one to the lines, bam, you get huge value
- 24:18Speaker 1: on betting them divisionally. You bet get huge value on
- 24:20Speaker 1: Hurts m v P. That's when you want to take
- 24:22Speaker 1: the Eagles. You don't want to bet them now the
- 24:24Speaker 1: middle of the summer, just because the fans have betted
- 24:27Speaker 1: up right, it's it's always down to plus one seventy.
- 24:29Speaker 1: Now you've already missed the value. I'd hold off on that.
- 24:32Speaker 1: If you still like the over, I'd take it. It's
- 24:34Speaker 1: a nine and a half. It's still a good number.
- 24:36Speaker 1: But again you missed the value. It was that nine
- 24:37Speaker 1: at one point. So to me, I liked you over.
- 24:39Speaker 1: I like them divisionally. I just don't hate on waiting
- 24:42Speaker 1: down if you want better odds. I love Hey. You
- 24:45Speaker 1: were talking about Howie Roseman, the Eagles GM, who's been
- 24:50Speaker 1: there forever. Uh, and since he's come back, has started
- 24:52Speaker 1: to rebuild this roster and this is the make or
- 24:55Speaker 1: break for Jalen Hurts. Uh. You mentioned Davis that obviously
- 25:00Speaker 1: everyone has seen that clip of him just bull rushing
- 25:04Speaker 1: the guy on the other side of the line. What
- 25:05Speaker 1: I loved about that, though, was in the press conference
- 25:09Speaker 1: aster after he was asked about it, and he didn't
- 25:12Speaker 1: play it up at all. He was like, look, it's
- 25:14Speaker 1: not that big of a deal. There are plays where
- 25:16Speaker 1: I get bull rushed. There are places where other people
- 25:18Speaker 1: get bull rushed. People happen to see that one thing
- 25:20Speaker 1: they're making a big deal about it. Everybody. It happens
- 25:23Speaker 1: to everybody on this team. He was actually so humble
- 25:26Speaker 1: about it. Obviously he's going to be the kind of
- 25:28Speaker 1: guy who people will rally around as a teammate. You know, Ross,
- 25:34Speaker 1: you're inside the organization, Well, can you tell us, Well,
- 25:39Speaker 1: I'm a little surprised by the number uh in terms
- 25:42Speaker 1: of the wind total when you just consider it. Last year,
- 25:46Speaker 1: the owner came out and said it was a transition year.
- 25:50Speaker 1: They had a first year head coach in Nick Sirian.
- 25:53Speaker 1: They had a first year starting quarterback and Jalen Hurts.
- 25:56Speaker 1: They went nine and seven in the sixteen games they
- 26:00Speaker 1: tried to win, including seven and two down the stretch.
- 26:04Speaker 1: They didn't play any of their starters in the Week
- 26:06Speaker 1: eight teen contest against the Cowboys. So now you have
- 26:12Speaker 1: a second year head coach and a second year quarterback
- 26:15Speaker 1: in Jalen Hurts. He's never had the same offensive coach
- 26:19Speaker 1: two years in a row. You go back to Alabama, Oklahoma, NFL,
- 26:23Speaker 1: new coordinator, new play caller every year, so he finally
- 26:26Speaker 1: can take a higher level. Of course, he finally isn't
- 26:29Speaker 1: learning a new offense right now. Then they had a j.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Brown who's the top five wide receiver in the NFL
- 26:36Speaker 1: and a perfect fit for what they do on the
- 26:40Speaker 1: offensive side of the ball. Get Isaac say, I'm all
- 26:42Speaker 1: back at right guard, who's a very solid player. And
- 26:45Speaker 1: then defensively they added a lot of Hassan Reddick has
- 26:48Speaker 1: twenty three and a half sacks the last two years.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Jordan Davis, who Simon mentioned, looked real good in the
- 26:55Speaker 1: preseason game the other night. So did both their new linebackers,
- 26:58Speaker 1: Kaisier White and the Kobe Them both made play. Look,
- 27:01Speaker 1: don't ask me, just go watch the tape forget. Just
- 27:04Speaker 1: go watch the game Friday night. Is it a huge
- 27:07Speaker 1: sample size? No, but I'd rather them look good than
- 27:10Speaker 1: bad in that sample size. And then they added, uh, Bradberry.
- 27:15Speaker 1: Think at James Bradberry. This is the best cornerback trio
- 27:19Speaker 1: the Eagles have had since like early to talent like
- 27:23Speaker 1: Bobby Taylor, Troy Vincent. Maybe it's hard to imagine them
- 27:29Speaker 1: not winning at least ten or eleven games. It really is,
- 27:32Speaker 1: like ten or eleven is so much more likely then
- 27:38Speaker 1: eight or nine. I just I don't And the schedule
- 27:41Speaker 1: is still not that hard. I don't see how you
- 27:43Speaker 1: don't take the over. I've been saying it for a while.
- 27:46Speaker 1: With the Eagles, I think they are pretty much on
- 27:49Speaker 1: par with the Cowboys in terms of who wins this division.
- 27:53Speaker 1: They should have the same division winning odds. They should
- 27:56Speaker 1: have that same season win total number. In my mind,
- 28:00Speaker 1: you mentioned to Kobe Dean that guy was just blowing
- 28:04Speaker 1: shipped up in that first game against the Jets. He's
- 28:08Speaker 1: going to be one of those guys where a year
- 28:10Speaker 1: from now people are like, how did we let him slip?
- 28:13Speaker 1: Last question about the Eagles because you mentioned Sirianni. Nick Sirianni,
- 28:17Speaker 1: I think when the year began last year, we all
- 28:19Speaker 1: had a lot of questions about him, and this was
- 28:21Speaker 1: a team that consistently got better and better, especially like
- 28:25Speaker 1: you could count on them in the first half. They
- 28:28Speaker 1: were a team that was going to perform in the
- 28:30Speaker 1: first half, and you're gonna want to bet on them
- 28:32Speaker 1: in the first half. Ross, what have you seen of Sirianni?
- 28:36Speaker 1: How did he get better over the year. I think
- 28:40Speaker 1: they just realized it took him a while to figure
- 28:42Speaker 1: out who they were and what they are, and what
- 28:45Speaker 1: they are is the best old line in the NFL,
- 28:47Speaker 1: and they're a running team. What's interesting is they came
- 28:50Speaker 1: out in the preseason and through the ball every play
- 28:53Speaker 1: because I think they kind of look at it like, well,
- 28:56Speaker 1: we know we can run the ball. Where we want
- 28:58Speaker 1: to get better is throwing the ball. So that's what
- 29:01Speaker 1: they worked on on their first drive, and Hurts was
- 29:03Speaker 1: six for six eight yard. They overcame two penalties to
- 29:06Speaker 1: score a touchdown against the Jet starters. But I do
- 29:11Speaker 1: think that it was just a matter of them figuring
- 29:14Speaker 1: out what the strength and weaknesses of this team were really,
- 29:17Speaker 1: both sides of all, because the defense is better down
- 29:19Speaker 1: the stretch, the office better on the stretch. Also, their
- 29:22Speaker 1: schedule got easier, Like their schedule is definitely easier down
- 29:24Speaker 1: the stretch than it was earlier in the season playing
- 29:26Speaker 1: the Chiefs and all these other teams, Niners, whatever. But
- 29:30Speaker 1: they figured out who they were. I am so curious
- 29:34Speaker 1: see how they come out of the gates this year
- 29:36Speaker 1: and to see if they pick up where they left
- 29:38Speaker 1: off or if they try to do new things and
- 29:40Speaker 1: maybe they try to throw the ball more, maybe it
- 29:41Speaker 1: doesn't work. We'll find out pretty early because at the
- 29:44Speaker 1: Troit game, Simon mentioned that's a scary game that the
- 29:48Speaker 1: Lions have a lot of momentum, Like Lions are feel
- 29:51Speaker 1: good story. The Lions don't feel like a three win team,
- 29:54Speaker 1: you know, easy win for the Eagles at all in
- 29:57Speaker 1: that game. Gimme Lions plus four give lines on the
- 30:00Speaker 1: money line. Washington what is their nickname now? Washington Commanders
- 30:07Speaker 1: so lame plus five hundred to win the division win
- 30:12Speaker 1: total eight and a half. I don't know. Like they're
- 30:16Speaker 1: getting healthier on the defense, which I think is why
- 30:18Speaker 1: people were so excited about him last year. I'm so
- 30:22Speaker 1: out on Carson Wentz. I love Ron Rivera. They've already
- 30:26Speaker 1: fired their defensive their linebacker cut was, their defensive coordinators,
- 30:30Speaker 1: their defensive line coach, Sam Mills. Coach Sam Mills the third,
- 30:34Speaker 1: which is weird because I saw him two days earlier
- 30:37Speaker 1: at his dad's Hall of Fame thing, and Canda curious
- 30:41Speaker 1: what happened there. And so I don't know, Simon, there's
- 30:46Speaker 1: no way we look at the Commanders as a long
- 30:48Speaker 1: shot to win the division. What do you think? They're
- 30:50Speaker 1: total no. And even all the other pros I've talked to,
- 30:53Speaker 1: like met up with a bunch of guys this past weekend,
- 30:56Speaker 1: and they see they're making all their beds. We're talking
- 30:58Speaker 1: about futures single. I mean, a bunch of assholes out there,
- 31:01Speaker 1: bet the Giants. No one's been Washington, right. It's just
- 31:04Speaker 1: funny where every year guys will talk up Washington usually
- 31:08Speaker 1: like I was one of those guys last year. It's
- 31:09Speaker 1: like a great defense made a playoffs without a quarterback
- 31:12Speaker 1: last year, Like they should be better with Fitzpatrick. He
- 31:14Speaker 1: went down Week one and we saw it played out.
- 31:16Speaker 1: They just weren't that good of a team. Again. I
- 31:19Speaker 1: I want to believe in Carson, but it's all mental
- 31:22Speaker 1: at at this point with him. Like I watched that
- 31:24Speaker 1: preseason game. He just had a couple of passes where
- 31:26Speaker 1: it's like the kid doesn't get his feet set. It's
- 31:29Speaker 1: just he does all these he does all these things
- 31:31Speaker 1: that he regressed and all these different aspects of being
- 31:34Speaker 1: a quarterback position. So I'm down on them. I bet
- 31:37Speaker 1: they're under. I didn't bet big on it, right, it's
- 31:39Speaker 1: not one of my bigger bets I had. Bet they're under.
- 31:41Speaker 1: I haven't touched anything for them divisionally, Um kind of
- 31:44Speaker 1: Benna waiting see approach to Washington, but just just don't
- 31:47Speaker 1: have the confidence and a lot of bad JUGI with
- 31:49Speaker 1: this team right now, um, from top to bottom, from
- 31:51Speaker 1: ownership to the players on the field, I just don't
- 31:54Speaker 1: don't like the vibe of this Washington team. It's yeah
- 31:58Speaker 1: to me, like you mentioned to the Giants, and I
- 32:00Speaker 1: do want to get to them because I think they're
- 32:02Speaker 1: the more interesting team of the remaining two. Uh. When
- 32:06Speaker 1: you see a situation like Carson wentz Ross who got
- 32:10Speaker 1: drumbeat out of Philly, Uh, was run out of Indie
- 32:14Speaker 1: with the owner basically saying this was a bad experiment.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Now he goes to Washington, a reclamation project all the
- 32:20Speaker 1: way around. Do players rally around something like that? How
- 32:25Speaker 1: can he get that team to get behind him. Get
- 32:30Speaker 1: off to a good start. Really important he gets off
- 32:33Speaker 1: to a good start, because I'm sure they want him
- 32:36Speaker 1: to be the guy, but they know what happened the
- 32:38Speaker 1: last two stops. If he gets off to a good
- 32:40Speaker 1: starts like, Okay, here's the guy that could have an
- 32:42Speaker 1: m VP in he's good. Don't know what happened before,
- 32:45Speaker 1: but he's good. Gets off to a bad start, it
- 32:49Speaker 1: could get real ugly, like really like Sam Howe ugly.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Maybe try Sam Howe for the Rookie of the Year.
- 32:58Speaker 1: If he if if Wentz things up the joint, Sam
- 33:00Speaker 1: Howell comes in. I will say this, John dots in
- 33:05Speaker 1: their first round pick. I watched a lot of penalte football.
- 33:08Speaker 1: He's good. I mean there, you know, Curtis, Samuel, Terry McLaurin,
- 33:12Speaker 1: John Dotson. Wentz can't say he doesn't have weapons. That
- 33:15Speaker 1: was one of the arguments they said about last year
- 33:17Speaker 1: in Indie. He can't say that he has He has
- 33:20Speaker 1: some legit receivers there. I would take the under Simon
- 33:25Speaker 1: the Giants. This is an interesting team. I mean, Daniel
- 33:30Speaker 1: Jones has been terrible in the preseason, truly awful. Um,
- 33:34Speaker 1: but it's an interesting team. Nonethe last a lot of
- 33:36Speaker 1: conversations around Sequon Barkley and his comeback from the a
- 33:41Speaker 1: c L in year two looking relatively good. You just
- 33:44Speaker 1: said wise guys are starting to hit the Giants. What
- 33:47Speaker 1: is the logic there? The fools they just get sucked
- 33:50Speaker 1: in every year. They just every year. They're just like
- 33:52Speaker 1: Daniel Jones will improve. The kids. Got the body type,
- 33:55Speaker 1: he's got the brains. We've seen him have these moments
- 33:57Speaker 1: of greatness and I just always say him, this kid.
- 34:00Speaker 1: As soon as the lights get turned on again, he
- 34:02Speaker 1: could have an amazing first or second quarter. You know
- 34:05Speaker 1: that strip sack, fumble has come, you know that interceptions coming.
- 34:08Speaker 1: It's just this kid is what he is, right Like
- 34:10Speaker 1: in the NFL, they kind of just throw you in
- 34:12Speaker 1: the deep end and see if you can swim, and
- 34:14Speaker 1: if you can't swim, that's it. Like they just it's
- 34:17Speaker 1: very rare that these these guys eventually figure it out,
- 34:20Speaker 1: because no one really has the leash to figure it out.
- 34:23Speaker 1: Daniel Jones, I mean he's had the leash here, Like
- 34:25Speaker 1: this is crazy. I really can't believe that this kids
- 34:27Speaker 1: had all these opportunities and I just don't see it,
- 34:30Speaker 1: like I get it. They brought in the new O C.
- 34:33Speaker 1: I mean, I just it doesn't matter if you bring
- 34:35Speaker 1: a new head coach, if the if the player doesn't
- 34:37Speaker 1: have the mental makeup, it doesn't matter. So to me
- 34:41Speaker 1: looking at this Giants team, I literally I had guys
- 34:43Speaker 1: all weekend talking to me about the Giants team. I
- 34:45Speaker 1: can't stand him, even when I look on paper, like yeah,
- 34:47Speaker 1: it's fun. They have like some talent. They haven't drafted
- 34:50Speaker 1: that great, Like sure they've signed players and try to
- 34:53Speaker 1: make moves and see Kwon Barkley might look amazing, but
- 34:56Speaker 1: to me, I just can't do it. I'm on their
- 34:58Speaker 1: under seven a half wins. I'll take it all the
- 35:00Speaker 1: way down to minus one five, minus one forty. I
- 35:03Speaker 1: just it's a great number. As long as he's above seven,
- 35:05Speaker 1: you're getting a really good value on a team that
- 35:07Speaker 1: it's gonna be fighting for the fourth third spot in
- 35:09Speaker 1: this division. So yeah, Like if you watch the other night,
- 35:15Speaker 1: Daniel Jones are getting smashed. The old line is still
- 35:17Speaker 1: an issue. Shane Lemu got hurt. I don't know how
- 35:21Speaker 1: bad it is. But the one thing I always say
- 35:24Speaker 1: about Daniel Jones two things. One is the old line
- 35:27Speaker 1: has been terrible the whole time he's been there. Terrible,
- 35:31Speaker 1: which is not good. And then number two, you know
- 35:33Speaker 1: what's crazy about him, Chad. He's athletic, he has a
- 35:39Speaker 1: good arm, he's smart, he's accurate. He's a great kid.
- 35:45Speaker 1: He's not a great quarterback, Like like he checks every
- 35:48Speaker 1: box except for making the plays in the games when
- 35:54Speaker 1: they need to be made. Um, Look, he's gonna get
- 35:58Speaker 1: a great opportunity this year or with Brian Dable and
- 36:01Speaker 1: Mike Kafka. He seems like such a nice kid. I
- 36:05Speaker 1: kind of hope it works out for him. The only
- 36:07Speaker 1: saving grace I have for the Giants, and I think
- 36:09Speaker 1: that this is the right number. I'm I I think
- 36:13Speaker 1: I have some faith in Dable that I feel like
- 36:16Speaker 1: they are a seven or eight win team. Kind of
- 36:19Speaker 1: almost feel better about them than I do about Washington.
- 36:23Speaker 1: They're both those teams are seven or eight win teams
- 36:25Speaker 1: for me, which is why I like the under for
- 36:27Speaker 1: Washington and why the Giants. I think the number is
- 36:30Speaker 1: about right. If I had to, I probably take the under,
- 36:33Speaker 1: but it's the it's the number I feel the I
- 36:37Speaker 1: have the least amount of conviction for in the NFC
- 36:39Speaker 1: East is the Giants seven and a half. Well, it
- 36:42Speaker 1: is interesting, like if you're going to compare those two teams. Obviously,
- 36:46Speaker 1: Simon just said a lot of betters are looking at
- 36:48Speaker 1: the Giants over seven and a half as a smarter
- 36:52Speaker 1: play or a trendier play than the Commanders. Uh, and
- 36:56Speaker 1: they're total over eight and a half. Uh, thinking that
- 37:01Speaker 1: the Giants have a better shot if there were two
- 37:03Speaker 1: headhead matchups between these two teams, which there would be
- 37:06Speaker 1: Giants likely to win both of those games. Uh. The
- 37:11Speaker 1: last question I have for your Roscoe. I know you
- 37:12Speaker 1: gotta get going. Uh. You get a quarterback like Daniel
- 37:17Speaker 1: Jones has got everything, but he can't be a great
- 37:20Speaker 1: quarterback as an offensive lineman. What does that do to
- 37:24Speaker 1: your mindset every time you're dropping into past protection. I
- 37:29Speaker 1: had a lot of different quarterbacks. Here's how I would
- 37:31Speaker 1: describe it. When I played in New England. We knew
- 37:34Speaker 1: we were gonna win because we had Tom Brady. So
- 37:37Speaker 1: it's fourth quarter of a game, too close game. We
- 37:40Speaker 1: knew we were gonna win. Now, a couple of times
- 37:42Speaker 1: we didn't. But in the minds it was we knew
- 37:45Speaker 1: we were gonna win when I had a good quarterback
- 37:49Speaker 1: like Bled, so we thought we were gonna win, like
- 37:52Speaker 1: we were like, we got led so too minute drill,
- 37:55Speaker 1: he's got this, We're gonna win. When you have a
- 37:57Speaker 1: guy like Daniel Jones, those guys are all still just
- 38:01Speaker 1: kind of hoping, you know, they're hoping this guy can
- 38:05Speaker 1: pull it off. They don't know he's gonna pull it off.
- 38:09Speaker 1: They're not even necessarily confident he's gonna get it done.
- 38:13Speaker 1: They're hoping. It's a big difference that that mindset. I
- 38:17Speaker 1: don't know how much of that's conscious how much of
- 38:19Speaker 1: that subconscious debate. It's one reason why I thought Bucks
- 38:23Speaker 1: would be so good when Brady went down there, I
- 38:24Speaker 1: thought the Patriots take a step back because all the
- 38:27Speaker 1: guys know in New England we don't have Brady anymore,
- 38:30Speaker 1: and all the guys in Tampa, no matter what the
- 38:32Speaker 1: score is, no matter what the situation is, when we
- 38:34Speaker 1: got Brady, we're gonna win. That. There's a lot of
- 38:37Speaker 1: value in that knowing, thinking, hoping. That is a great
- 38:42Speaker 1: way to describe the descending ladder when you are playing
- 38:46Speaker 1: in the NFL and when you are betting in the NFL.
