- 0:28Speaker 1: and the Banther just keep on roaring. Plus the USA
- 0:32Speaker 1: winning goal for the first time in ninety two years.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Props at TGE Thompson and Company. This is going to
- 0:37Speaker 1: be a strong episode of NHL Unscripted. We start JD.
- 0:40Speaker 1: I remember years ago I worked at ESPN. This guy
- 0:42Speaker 1: said to me, I know you're Canadian, may not know
- 0:43Speaker 1: these things. Like huh, he goes, just make sure you
- 0:45Speaker 1: don't say happy Memorial Day.
- 0:47Speaker 2: I'm like, why is that?
- 0:47Speaker 1: He goes, Well, and today when we memorialize the dead
- 0:50Speaker 1: here in America, I'm like, I understand.
- 0:51Speaker 2: He's like, go to Canadians, do I go?
- 0:53Speaker 1: We just say happy May two for I go to
- 0:54Speaker 1: Victoria Day weekend for us, so salute to the Queen.
- 0:57Speaker 2: And salute all those fallen soldiers out there. Happy Memorial
- 0:59Speaker 2: Day weekend.
- 1:00Speaker 3: I think is okay?
- 1:01Speaker 1: And I still to this day, I think it. John
- 1:03Speaker 1: al rectually did a bit people. How many broadcasters gold
- 1:05Speaker 1: and Grey? Happy Memorial Day?
- 1:08Speaker 2: Not the right thing to say.
- 1:09Speaker 4: Yeah, and and and that queen, that absolute troll's injecting
- 1:16Speaker 4: our people to years of that anyway, right, yeah, hey
- 1:19Speaker 4: for listen, for everyone that sacrificed himself in the United States,
- 1:24Speaker 4: this is what this day is for. And without them,
- 1:28Speaker 4: I don't know where the US would be here or
- 1:29Speaker 4: most of the countries so in North America.
- 1:31Speaker 1: So yeah, and it's the unofficial start of summer for
- 1:34Speaker 1: so many people. It's been a little bit chilly here
- 1:35Speaker 1: on the East Coast, but today so we had awful.
- 1:38Speaker 3: It's been bad.
- 1:39Speaker 1: I want to start the podcast showing just what influenced
- 1:41Speaker 1: h D has had to be.
- 1:42Speaker 2: So I'm going to use a sentence using all of
- 1:43Speaker 2: his expressions.
- 1:44Speaker 1: So so far this Star's oilers, I mean, the oilers
- 1:47Speaker 1: have been absolutely electric as they piss Pump six by
- 1:51Speaker 1: Dallas and the Stars are absolute dog water.
- 1:53Speaker 2: So Dallas better take us see Allison get hard? Am
- 1:56Speaker 2: I right?
- 1:57Speaker 3: That was wow?
- 1:59Speaker 4: Clip that Wow? Now I know of just how dumb
- 2:03Speaker 4: I sound all the time. I love to saying piss pumping.
- 2:07Speaker 4: That's a piss pump man. You know, I gotta ask
- 2:11Speaker 4: you guys too. If you know watching that game and
- 2:14Speaker 4: you know Dallas led play for a lot of that game,
- 2:18Speaker 4: and you know they number one, you have to go
- 2:21Speaker 4: to Stuart Skinner. Like, Stuart Skinner has been the best
- 2:24Speaker 4: goalie in this series, and he's the greatest goalie alive
- 2:26Speaker 4: right now. I mean, ever since he came back from
- 2:30Speaker 4: being polled, he's been I mean, he's been lights out.
- 2:34Speaker 4: He's been electric. He's been piss pumping teams and turning
- 2:38Speaker 4: them into dogwater. I just think he's been so common
- 2:42Speaker 4: the net, and they've played so well in front of him.
- 2:44Speaker 4: But there's just there's so many depth pieces on Edmonton
- 2:47Speaker 4: right now that are just stepping up and they're they're
- 2:49Speaker 4: elevating their game. You know, you look at Zach Hymans.
- 2:52Speaker 4: Zach Hyman's got over one hundred hits in the playoffs.
- 2:55Speaker 4: He's fifty nine in the regular season. He's got over
- 2:57Speaker 4: one hundred in the playoffs. He's an absolute beast. He's
- 3:00Speaker 4: killing guys at Nugent Hopkins is all this series against
- 3:04Speaker 4: all these multipoint games. Every game, I mean, Evan Bouchard
- 3:08Speaker 4: is is you know, rewriting history as a.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Defensive By the way, that was a great goal.
- 3:12Speaker 4: I mean, Evan Bouchard is behind one person points per game,
- 3:16Speaker 4: you know, with the minimum I think it's a twenty
- 3:18Speaker 4: games played in the playoffs, he's he's behind Bobby orr
- 3:22Speaker 4: in the most points per game on average, wow, at
- 3:25Speaker 4: like one point one five. So it's like all these
- 3:27Speaker 4: guys are doing these crazy things.
- 3:29Speaker 3: And you look at.
- 3:29Speaker 4: Dallas to the wyat Johnston's minus sixteen worse than the playoffs.
- 3:33Speaker 4: You look at Jason Robertson one goal in nine games.
- 3:35Speaker 4: I don't even know if you want to call that
- 3:37Speaker 4: a goal. That just he didn't even know he scored it.
- 3:39Speaker 4: You look at Mason Marchman. Mason Marchman has been trying,
- 3:42Speaker 4: he's been playing physical, but not enough. Matt Tewshane one
- 3:45Speaker 4: goal in sixty games, not enough. You know, Tyler Second
- 3:48Speaker 4: had that one game in game one. But it's just
- 3:51Speaker 4: the depth is just out playing Dallas. And you know,
- 3:55Speaker 4: then you look at the you look at the top guys,
- 3:58Speaker 4: Miko Randons went to sleep and they lose rupe hints,
- 4:01Speaker 4: which I think that slash is a turning point in
- 4:03Speaker 4: that series.
- 4:04Speaker 3: And you know, all these things all these things.
- 4:06Speaker 4: Kind of lead to you ask the question why, and
- 4:09Speaker 4: then you know, why, why are these guys playing with
- 4:12Speaker 4: so much confidence? And it just isn't doesn't seem like
- 4:15Speaker 4: it's falling the right way for Dallas, and they're getting
- 4:18Speaker 4: opportunities and they're out shooting. Skinner looks amazing, he looks
- 4:21Speaker 4: comfortable and net you know, and I look to like
- 4:24Speaker 4: Game one of Lean Bischel turtling at the end of
- 4:27Speaker 4: that game on Corey Perry and I say, there's moments
- 4:30Speaker 4: of intimidation in a playoff series. And as you're going
- 4:35Speaker 4: through the playoffs, and if you can intimidate a team,
- 4:38Speaker 4: you know, not every guy is going to be intimidated,
- 4:41Speaker 4: they're going to play, but there's some guys that'll wilt.
- 4:43Speaker 4: And you know, I was just texting with Brian Boyle
- 4:45Speaker 4: and I was like, you know, I look at like
- 4:47Speaker 4: the you know, we'll get to the Florida series, but
- 4:49Speaker 4: I look at the Florida series as well, like they're
- 4:51Speaker 4: just bullying Carolina. And now not to say that Carolina
- 4:54Speaker 4: is not getting opportunities and not playing. You know, they're pushing,
- 4:57Speaker 4: but there's just something missing. And it's the same thing
- 5:00Speaker 4: in this Dallas series right now. Now, I still think
- 5:02Speaker 4: it's going to be a long series, but they need
- 5:04Speaker 4: to get that respect back. And I think Edmonton is
- 5:07Speaker 4: zero respect for Dallas and they're not scared of him
- 5:10Speaker 4: at all. And it all starts in that game one.
- 5:12Speaker 4: When you win that game leem Bischell's turtling to Corey
- 5:14Speaker 4: parrots that are getting up. He's six seven, two hundred
- 5:17Speaker 4: and ninety pounds. However, he is big old Swiss boy.
- 5:21Speaker 4: He's just got a great at least fight if you lose.
- 5:23Speaker 4: You know, and I say this Thermo space of I
- 5:26Speaker 4: was in the toughest guy I fought. I got my
- 5:28Speaker 4: ass kicked a lot, but you know, every guy I
- 5:30Speaker 4: fought was like a borderline heavyweight. And I just said,
- 5:33Speaker 4: you know what, I'm gonna lose, but I'm not going
- 5:35Speaker 4: to back down, because that's the biggest thing. You back
- 5:37Speaker 4: down and then you give them the mental edge. And
- 5:39Speaker 4: that's what I think Edmonton has right now. They have
- 5:41Speaker 4: the mental edge, and they're just the last two games,
- 5:44Speaker 4: even though they get out played at times, they're just
- 5:46Speaker 4: in it more mentally, if that makes sense.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Well, you had this sweet the other day, which makes
- 5:51Speaker 2: a lot of sense.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Now why Johnson and Jason Robertson will decide the Dallas
- 5:54Speaker 1: Stars make the files of a chance in Stanley Cup.
- 5:56Speaker 2: It's in. There's somewhere. They just need to find it
- 5:58Speaker 2: and fast.
- 5:58Speaker 1: And to your point, they haven't, so I know people
- 6:00Speaker 1: don't want to single guys out. Jimmy Ben you could
- 6:02Speaker 1: throw in there as well. One goal in sixty games.
- 6:04Speaker 1: I mean it's it's been a deplorable effort all around,
- 6:07Speaker 1: and clearly they're not gonna win the series.
- 6:08Speaker 2: They will turn around.
- 6:09Speaker 4: Well, their fourth line has been was their best line
- 6:12Speaker 4: last game. Colin Blackwell and Sam Steele been been fantastic
- 6:17Speaker 4: and then it was owen Bach. But I mean, those
- 6:19Speaker 4: two guys have been their two best players. But if
- 6:21Speaker 4: you look at him, their dogs on a ball. They're
- 6:23Speaker 4: just hunted pucks. And and maybe it's just that Edmonton's
- 6:27Speaker 4: that much better, and it's we're gonna see an Edmonton
- 6:30Speaker 4: Florida rematch once again, and Edmonton's just deeper.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Ch your point with the Florida Panthers, they just keep
- 6:35Speaker 1: on roaring. Hurricanes head coach Rob Brindamore mixes things up.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Let's go with coach chet Cooff over Freddie Anderson, who
- 6:40Speaker 1: you had pointed out Frediy Anderson has been one of
- 6:41Speaker 1: the great stories of this playoffs so far.
- 6:43Speaker 2: But instead let's give him a hook, see what happens.
- 6:45Speaker 1: And instead it was close after forty and then the
- 6:47Speaker 1: Panthers explode five unanswered goals.
- 6:49Speaker 2: They're now three.
- 6:50Speaker 1: All the series is a wrap, Sam Ryder out of
- 6:52Speaker 1: the lineup didn't matter again, you just mentioned the depth
- 6:54Speaker 1: of the depth of Florida. Five goals or first nine
- 6:57Speaker 1: shots the third bark off the captain two goals and
- 7:00Speaker 1: assist plus four rating. Callen has now lost fifteen straight
- 7:03Speaker 1: conference final games. As you said on NHL Tonight, I'm
- 7:06Speaker 1: running out of answers because that's a rock Brindmore sad
- 7:08Speaker 1: as well.
- 7:08Speaker 2: They get no idea how to fix this for Carolina.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Just an absolute mess.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Bullied once again.
- 7:14Speaker 4: You know we turnovers won, but you know you look
- 7:18Speaker 4: at these moments in this series and they're bullied because
- 7:22Speaker 4: all these turnovers are because the d are number one.
- 7:25Speaker 4: They're making soft plays in the middle, but everything seems rushed.
- 7:28Speaker 4: They're always like they're kind of wincing because you're getting
- 7:31Speaker 4: hit after the whistle. There's always a cross check, there's
- 7:34Speaker 4: always somebody in your face, and it wears on you
- 7:36Speaker 4: if you don't push back, and you just allow that
- 7:38Speaker 4: and you take that abuse, you take that abuse, You
- 7:41Speaker 4: take that abuse mentally. It's not only gonna mess with
- 7:44Speaker 4: you and your game, it's gonna mess with the fabric
- 7:47Speaker 4: of the team. And you look at these guys and
- 7:50Speaker 4: you know not to not to, you know, shit on anybody.
- 7:54Speaker 4: But it's like Sebastianajo hits Sam reinhard in that game,
- 7:58Speaker 4: knocks them out. Yes, it's a borderline dirty hit. I
- 8:02Speaker 4: don't love it. Florida is waiting for that, They're using
- 8:05Speaker 4: that as bolton board material. They're going in there, and
- 8:08Speaker 4: it's like Carolina is like waiting all game for the response.
- 8:11Speaker 4: They're like, they're probably gonna come and they're probably gonna
- 8:14Speaker 4: start hitting us because of this hit, and they're gonna
- 8:16Speaker 4: be mad. And of course, what do you think happens
- 8:18Speaker 4: as soon as Florida gets a lead. Matthew Chuck as
- 8:21Speaker 4: a captain, should goes after a hoo chase himround the ice.
- 8:25Speaker 4: And the biggest issue when I knew this series was
- 8:27Speaker 4: a rap is not one person winning defended Sebastianaho, not one,
- 8:32Speaker 4: not a one went in there. You're down four to
- 8:34Speaker 4: one in the series, going two hand him in the wrist,
- 8:37Speaker 4: break his wrists.
- 8:37Speaker 3: Not this.
- 8:38Speaker 4: I'm not advocating for injuries. Yep, do your thing, but like,
- 8:41Speaker 4: go protect your own. He's assaulting your teammate. Go back
- 8:46Speaker 4: and fight about.
- 8:47Speaker 1: By the way, Chuck and the penalty box be like, hey,
- 8:49Speaker 1: I remember, like exactly exactly.
- 8:51Speaker 4: And then and then Sam Bennett goes and krass check Spechnikov.
- 8:54Speaker 4: That's another one of your top players. You're not showing
- 8:56Speaker 4: any respect again. You're not getting any respect from Florida.
- 9:00Speaker 4: You gotta go get it. I don't care. You're down
- 9:02Speaker 4: three nothing, you're down whatever, whatever what five to one,
- 9:05Speaker 4: six one, and they're still trying to Carolina's trying to
- 9:08Speaker 4: score and Florida's trying to hit him. At six to one,
- 9:11Speaker 4: I'm like, you're down three nother You're not gonna come
- 9:12Speaker 4: back with two minutes left. You're not gonna score five goals.
- 9:14Speaker 3: I don't care.
- 9:15Speaker 4: You can't sell Bobrovsky. Go run Bobrovsky. Make it a Donnybrook,
- 9:19Speaker 4: make it make it a full on five on five
- 9:22Speaker 4: bench clearing brawl. Come on, have a little heart, like Jesus,
- 9:26Speaker 4: like get pissed off, Like it's the same thing I
- 9:29Speaker 4: have with with like and I love Austin Matthews, but
- 9:32Speaker 4: I'm like, where is your breaking point?
- 9:33Speaker 3: I just want to know a breaking point?
- 9:35Speaker 2: I love.
- 9:36Speaker 4: I don't love seeing you know, dirty, when somebody's like premeditated,
- 9:41Speaker 4: it's a dirty play. But if you have a little
- 9:43Speaker 4: bit of like frustration and it boils over and you snap,
- 9:46Speaker 4: like I like to see that from a player, show
- 9:48Speaker 4: me like that you can lose it like a little
- 9:50Speaker 4: bit that like you've had enough, Like I've had enough.
- 9:52Speaker 4: You guys have lost sixteen straight. Not to say that
- 9:55Speaker 4: the same team has been part of that, but somebody
- 9:58Speaker 4: has to get up in the room and say, like,
- 10:00Speaker 4: there's no puck on the ice anymore, there's no puck.
- 10:02Speaker 4: We're gonna get respect back if they beat us up
- 10:04Speaker 4: once again. If they beat us up, you're not tough. Hey,
- 10:06Speaker 4: it's fine, but at least you're going into the fight.
- 10:09Speaker 4: You're going into the fight, and I know that I
- 10:11Speaker 4: can trust you when I'm sitting next to you. If
- 10:12Speaker 4: I know you're gonna wilt under pressure, I mean, what's
- 10:15Speaker 4: what's the point?
- 10:15Speaker 3: Just let him win?
- 10:16Speaker 4: The four Game four, fit game four, and let's get
- 10:18Speaker 4: out of here because no one wants to see more
- 10:20Speaker 4: of this goddamn series. It's just Enough's enough. Go back
- 10:23Speaker 4: to the one eight please, yeah right, I'm sick of it.
- 10:25Speaker 4: This would have been a first round matchup. If this
- 10:28Speaker 4: went to one eight, this would have been a first
- 10:30Speaker 4: round matchup.
- 10:32Speaker 1: And your point about playing a little bully ball in
- 10:34Speaker 1: honor of Bob Bender, It's like, if you're gonna lose
- 10:36Speaker 1: the battlet least win the war, right. I know he
- 10:39Speaker 1: doesn't play bullyball. I'm just like, if they were to
- 10:41Speaker 1: all right, I want to get to the leafs.
- 10:43Speaker 3: This is great.
- 10:44Speaker 2: The Shannon play is finally done. Eleven years as the president.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Keith Pelly, who's now the MLSC president, Cool Boston TSM
- 10:51Speaker 1: back when I was a young pup said I'm not
- 10:53Speaker 1: looking to replace Brendan. I'm looking at we're closer with
- 10:55Speaker 1: Brad that Cmtree living, and we're close with Craig coach Barubi.
- 10:58Speaker 1: So it's it's Tree and Chief now running the show
- 11:02Speaker 1: and sh had ahnd Gun. And by the way, what
- 11:04Speaker 1: I wanted to really hit on with you specifically is
- 11:06Speaker 1: your tweet again when Pelly said that he really liked
- 11:09Speaker 1: the effort from the fans in the first round, and
- 11:12Speaker 1: your response was, you're welcome to the NHL and to
- 11:14Speaker 1: the Leaf specifically because they, as you pointed out, the
- 11:17Speaker 1: lower bowl is an absolute moratorium. And then now this
- 11:21Speaker 1: exact quote is the Leaf's upper manage will spend in
- 11:23Speaker 1: the off season studying and looking at ways to improve
- 11:26Speaker 1: their homeless advantage by getting fans more engaged.
- 11:29Speaker 4: We did it first, We did it. That's how you
- 11:32Speaker 4: enact change. You push, you push, and I'm gonna take
- 11:36Speaker 4: full credit, not to say that anybody else was saying,
- 11:39Speaker 4: I'm taking full credit for the Leafs. Finally, and I
- 11:42Speaker 4: listened to that press conference at the night, I think
- 11:44Speaker 4: I was on NHL now, and I'm just like, yes, yes,
- 11:48Speaker 4: the emphatic add nan, yes, yes, I did it, because
- 11:51Speaker 4: he's like he's like, yeah, there's been some complaints about
- 11:54Speaker 4: the lower ball. It's like, yeah, the sure has. Goddamn Church, it.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Would have been unbelievable, shouted you out, just so, like
- 12:01Speaker 1: I know that certain people in media made commence on
- 12:03Speaker 1: Jason to Mercer's critical you be come God, can you.
- 12:05Speaker 4: Imagine he's like Jason ms we really respect his opinion.
- 12:10Speaker 3: You know, speaking of the Leafs.
- 12:13Speaker 4: You know, when you look at the way this this
- 12:15Speaker 4: series is unfolded, are they that far from winning a cup?
- 12:19Speaker 4: When you look at Carolina? Is the Metropolitan Division the
- 12:22Speaker 4: worst division hockey?
- 12:23Speaker 3: Is my question?
- 12:24Speaker 2: This is where it's tricky because there was talent.
- 12:26Speaker 4: I'm gonna bring you into this one too. Is Metropolitan
- 12:29Speaker 4: the worst division hockey?
- 12:32Speaker 3: Well? I want your opinion.
- 12:34Speaker 2: My first it was gonna be in the leaguest how
- 12:36Speaker 2: far away there?
- 12:36Speaker 1: Because the one thought was, well, they took the Panthers
- 12:38Speaker 1: to seven of the defending cup champions. My thought was, no,
- 12:42Speaker 1: you got piss pumped in both games at home. You're
- 12:44Speaker 1: farther away from the Stanley Cup final than you realize.
- 12:46Speaker 2: So yeah, don't think they're close.
- 12:48Speaker 5: Go ahead, tell the Metro Sexual Division as I like
- 12:51Speaker 5: to call it, No, it's uh, it's I mean, it's
- 12:54Speaker 5: super weak. I think listen, you look at the division.
- 12:58Speaker 5: Who are the top three? Who are the top three
- 13:00Speaker 5: teams in the division? Rangers, Devils, Well that's yeah, the
- 13:04Speaker 5: bottom is brutal, and then even the top what Caps, Hurricanes,
- 13:08Speaker 5: Devils were the top three front and those are the
- 13:10Speaker 5: teams and now we look back on how the playoffs
- 13:13Speaker 5: have played out, and they kind of.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Have gone away with a whimper.
- 13:16Speaker 5: Really, So yeah, I think that at one point maybe
- 13:19Speaker 5: you could make the case that the Pacific was the weakest,
- 13:23Speaker 5: even though obviously the teams at the top of the
- 13:24Speaker 5: division were among the elites in the league. But yeah,
- 13:27Speaker 5: this this, you know, I think I wouldn't be surprised
- 13:29Speaker 5: like this, if the if the if it kind of
- 13:31Speaker 5: flipped a little bit next season and you saw, you know,
- 13:34Speaker 5: the Rangers and the Blue Jackets kind of well they
- 13:37Speaker 5: were technically in the middle of the division, but I
- 13:39Speaker 5: could see things kind of moving around next in the
- 13:41Speaker 5: standings in the Metro just because it's it's not very stable,
- 13:44Speaker 5: it's not very strong in that division.
- 13:47Speaker 4: Well, i mean you look at like, what do you
- 13:49Speaker 4: feel if you're Washington, you just got beaten five and
- 13:53Speaker 4: it's getting dog walked, so your way, you're you're really
- 13:57Speaker 4: far you know, And then you look like if I'm
- 13:59Speaker 4: the Montreal Canadians, I'm like, man, we're not that far off,
- 14:02Speaker 4: Like honestly, like we're you know, we could easily made
- 14:07Speaker 4: that a seven game series against Washington. So I'm just
- 14:09Speaker 4: like looking around and it's it's gonna be interesting what
- 14:12Speaker 4: certain teams like if I'm it's a copycat league. But
- 14:15Speaker 4: if you're looking around and you're watching out jams, watching
- 14:17Speaker 4: the playoffs, and they're like, eh, but I think the
- 14:19Speaker 4: biggest mistake Toronto could make to your point, is being like,
- 14:22Speaker 4: let's run it back one more time. I think we
- 14:24Speaker 4: could do it. I think we could do it this time. Well,
- 14:26Speaker 4: I think the Car four I could do it. Yeah,
- 14:28Speaker 4: Marner's gone, he's ninety nine Friedman just I think tweeted
- 14:32Speaker 4: he's ninety nine percent gone. Do you think Tavares is gone?
- 14:36Speaker 2: Because here's my thought, were goee, he loves playing it.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Sol'm like, no, I got that. But this whole hometown
- 14:39Speaker 1: discount thing. Then Stamcoast gets four years thirty two million,
- 14:42Speaker 1: Like okay, I'm gonna go to Nashville like I love
- 14:43Speaker 1: the lighting, but whatever. So I'm like, don't don't just
- 14:46Speaker 1: count on Johnny TV Like yeah, I'll take four for
- 14:48Speaker 1: five in a year. I'm like, no, I really want
- 14:49Speaker 1: good year. I'm gonna get my money and I'd like
- 14:51Speaker 1: to stay in Toronto.
- 14:52Speaker 4: Well here's the thing that I if I'm if I'm
- 14:55Speaker 4: tree living I sit down John Taveres, and I said,
- 14:57Speaker 4: and I show him the picture of him with his
- 14:59Speaker 4: Toronto Mayple leafs bet when he was ten years old
- 15:01Speaker 4: or whatever that he tweeted about, And I said.
- 15:03Speaker 3: This is your favorite team? Yeah, just your favorite team?
- 15:06Speaker 3: Did you they team? They just to run on me
- 15:09Speaker 3: his team.
- 15:09Speaker 4: Well, you're gonna take You're gonna take four million, and
- 15:12Speaker 4: you're gonna shut the hell up and show it saying
- 15:14Speaker 4: this is really six this is really your favorite team. No,
- 15:17Speaker 4: but this is the decision for John Taveries. You made
- 15:20Speaker 4: enough in your career. You made enough.
- 15:22Speaker 3: Now you go. We need to win.
- 15:25Speaker 4: So you either want to win and be a Toronto
- 15:27Speaker 4: Maple and that's just that's just moneyball. That's what you
- 15:30Speaker 4: gotta do. And if you don't, well you can go
- 15:33Speaker 4: your own way.
- 15:34Speaker 2: There you go. Tell.
- 15:36Speaker 1: My hunch is Marner's gone. T VARs has gone too.
- 15:38Speaker 1: I think only two of the four come back. I
- 15:39Speaker 1: don't like Johnny t takes that much of a cute.
- 15:42Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure Marner's gone.
- 15:43Speaker 5: He's gonna get monster offers from at least half a
- 15:46Speaker 5: dozen teams in the league.
- 15:47Speaker 2: He's gonna go and win seven years one hundred million dollars.
- 15:50Speaker 3: He's gonna go and win.
- 15:51Speaker 4: Yeah, he's he's going to La or Vegas, or he's
- 15:54Speaker 4: gonna go somewhere.
- 15:55Speaker 5: Yeah, hang out with Biber in La or Vegas. Sounds
- 15:58Speaker 5: like a good times.
- 16:00Speaker 3: She goes to Florida. Oh my god, that's not fair. Hey,
- 16:03Speaker 3: that's just not fair.
- 16:04Speaker 5: I mean as far as Tavares, you know, I just
- 16:07Speaker 5: first they take the sea away from him, and now
- 16:09Speaker 5: they're going to try and low ball them on At
- 16:11Speaker 5: one point, does this guy just say, you know what,
- 16:13Speaker 5: I love playing in Toronto.
- 16:14Speaker 2: This is very important to me. My family likes here.
- 16:17Speaker 2: But enough is enough and.
- 16:18Speaker 5: He could be good on He could be a really
- 16:21Speaker 5: good player on some really good teams.
- 16:23Speaker 2: He could go to the Panthers, wh I couldn't John Tomorrow.
- 16:25Speaker 4: Yeah, he's a good he's a good third line center.
- 16:27Speaker 4: I think now, like really solid. I just don't think
- 16:29Speaker 4: you're gonna bring him in to be a two C so,
- 16:32Speaker 4: you know, don't pay him two C money. I just
- 16:34Speaker 4: think on a really good team like yeah, on An,
- 16:37Speaker 4: I could see like a Utah. Maybe they're looking for
- 16:40Speaker 4: a centerman that I don't know where they're gonna have
- 16:42Speaker 4: to overpay somebody. And I know there's been links of
- 16:45Speaker 4: like Bennett and Marner going there as well. I heard
- 16:47Speaker 4: they're gonna offer They're going to offer a lot of
- 16:51Speaker 4: money to those two guys.
- 16:52Speaker 2: That'd be incredible.
- 16:53Speaker 1: He goes from the leaves to the mammoth like, wow, guy,
- 16:56Speaker 1: chase that money.
- 16:57Speaker 2: One more thought. We're here. The Islanders make a big
- 16:59Speaker 2: move at the top.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Pull NHL player McGill University grad Matthew darks my brother,
- 17:04Speaker 1: so kill McGill.
- 17:05Speaker 2: That's just for him.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Matthew darts with the team's GM and executive A vice
- 17:09Speaker 1: president Jarsh Most recently, Sure was director of Hockey Operation
- 17:12Speaker 1: of the Tampa Bay Lightning since twenty nineteen. While at McGill.
- 17:15Speaker 1: I love this nugget from tell he won the Doctor
- 17:17Speaker 1: Randy Greg Award, the top student athlete in the country.
- 17:20Speaker 1: I love that smart guy part of cup when the
- 17:22Speaker 1: organization played for the Habs against coach Patrick Waugh.
- 17:24Speaker 2: By the way, Tallas also McGill. Guy kill McGill times two.
- 17:27Speaker 3: Go to mcgil baby.
- 17:30Speaker 1: One thing of Americans they always know mcguil. They're like, oh,
- 17:32Speaker 1: where you go to school, Miguel, Like, how do you
- 17:33Speaker 1: know that? Yes, that's the one school Americans stomach.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Well.
- 17:36Speaker 1: McGill is an outstanding institution. No, I did not thoughts
- 17:39Speaker 1: on Matthew Darts and the isles.
- 17:42Speaker 4: Listen, I think it's time will tell you everything I've
- 17:45Speaker 4: heard and you know talking we talked to like we
- 17:47Speaker 4: broke the story with Pagnonta, and I think he's a
- 17:50Speaker 4: very intelligent guy and understands the game. And again, another
- 17:54Speaker 4: Tampa Bay Lightning product. These guys are just a feeder
- 17:57Speaker 4: system for for her gms and coaching roles. You look
- 18:01Speaker 4: at Jeff Blaschell going to Chicago, I mean another Tampa
- 18:04Speaker 4: Bay Lightning guys. You just need to go work under
- 18:06Speaker 4: John Cooper at Breezebaw and you you have an opportunity somewhere.
- 18:09Speaker 4: So I think it's I think it's good. I think listen,
- 18:13Speaker 4: you get the first pick, you have a lot of
- 18:16Speaker 4: you know, this is like you're not coming in. He
- 18:18Speaker 4: doesn't get to weigh himself into this, Like you're you
- 18:21Speaker 4: got to make a you know, franchise altering decision in
- 18:25Speaker 4: the next month, and then you have to decide which
- 18:28Speaker 4: direction you want to go. And I think they're going
- 18:30Speaker 4: to retool. I don't think it's going to be a
- 18:32Speaker 4: full rebuild. I think with this pick you can really
- 18:35Speaker 4: do some damage, whether you trade down and you can
- 18:38Speaker 4: maybe trade down a little bit and pick up Hagen's
- 18:41Speaker 4: or you can grab Schaeffer or Misa in the top position.
- 18:44Speaker 3: So but I think there's a lot to do.
- 18:46Speaker 4: There's a lot of word they have a lot of
- 18:47Speaker 4: shitty contracts, so we got to see what they can't
- 18:51Speaker 4: move around. But you know, my the most interesting I'm
- 18:53Speaker 4: gonna see is what he does with the Patrick Wahan
- 18:56Speaker 4: and and what he.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Make the GM.
- 18:59Speaker 4: That's whatever the thought was. But I feel like teams
- 19:02Speaker 4: are You're starting to see teams, you know, Pagnon was
- 19:05Speaker 4: talking about teams going away from the president role. You know,
- 19:07Speaker 4: like the GM can handle it all, and they're looking
- 19:10Speaker 4: for season guys. So I don't know if Patty Wows
- 19:13Speaker 4: really be the guy that would put up in that position.
- 19:15Speaker 4: I just want to see how he what he does
- 19:18Speaker 4: with the you know, bringing in any more assistance or
- 19:22Speaker 4: it's just going to be an interesting It's going to
- 19:24Speaker 4: be very interesting to see what he does. But it's
- 19:26Speaker 4: you know, nonetheless, it is a monumental month and a
- 19:30Speaker 4: half that he's gonna have to go through.
- 19:31Speaker 3: He's going to age.
- 19:32Speaker 4: He's going to age twenty years in the next month.
- 19:35Speaker 4: Because Islanders fans are they're sick and tired. Yeah, they
- 19:38Speaker 4: need something, and you get that first pick. You gotta
- 19:40Speaker 4: do something with it. You gotta do something big with it.
- 19:42Speaker 4: You can't, you can't fumble the bag. As the young
- 19:45Speaker 4: kids say.
- 19:45Speaker 1: You're right, optimism right now high what you could do
- 19:47Speaker 1: with a number one pick? We come back one guy
- 19:49Speaker 1: who's always raring to go. That's right, Christopher mad Doc
- 19:52Speaker 1: Russell the Holloway his thoughts not only on the Four
- 19:56Speaker 1: Nations months later, are still upset about the premeditated fight.
- 19:59Speaker 4: You can Yeah, it was a tough take, another tough take.
- 20:02Speaker 4: I had to leave after d left.
- 20:04Speaker 1: He was still offended by the take, but that means
- 20:06Speaker 1: bad Dog and I were still talking. Nick's talking Mets
- 20:09Speaker 1: and Juan Soto talking movies and how much he loves
- 20:11Speaker 1: a complete unknown and his obsession with timoth Tay Shallowy,
- 20:14Speaker 1: and Bob Dylan.
- 20:14Speaker 2: All that more coming up print for this on NHL
- 20:17Speaker 2: in the scripted.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Our Next Guest, the legendary broadcast from Sports Radio Personality,
- 20:32Speaker 1: going back to its historic run. His co host of
- 20:34Speaker 1: Mike and the Mad Dog on w f e N.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Of course his great work at MLB Network, high heat.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Friend and colleague with me for many years, and.
- 20:41Speaker 2: Of course now he's been resuscitant, never been more popular.
- 20:43Speaker 2: First take out at ESPN, eh.
- 20:47Speaker 1: That everybody, Christopher, mad Dog, Rusto Doggy.
- 20:52Speaker 2: It's great to see you again, my man.
- 20:54Speaker 6: How are there guys? Good to be on. Oh, it
- 20:56Speaker 6: is a pleasure. How are we doing? Okay?
- 20:57Speaker 4: Thanks good, We're doing great, Chris, thank you so much
- 21:01Speaker 4: for coming on. But before I go, I gotta ask
- 21:03Speaker 4: one question here. Yes, during the Four Nations you came
- 21:07Speaker 4: after US Canadians fighting, and the US Canada rivalry had
- 21:12Speaker 4: some poignant things to say, and I was just saying.
- 21:15Speaker 4: I just wanted to say, why are you coming for my.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Sport like that?
- 21:17Speaker 6: Why are you coming for my sport like that? Now
- 21:20Speaker 6: that was in February, Maybe I would have changed my
- 21:22Speaker 6: approach if I knew about those tariffs at the time. Hey,
- 21:26Speaker 6: we needed February on February twentieth whenever that was. I didn't.
- 21:31Speaker 6: I thought that fight early was was was too much programmed.
- 21:35Speaker 6: It was not organic. So that's what bothered me about that.
- 21:38Speaker 6: It's almost like they decided after nine seconds have a
- 21:41Speaker 6: fight really Game one. But I did root for Canada,
- 21:45Speaker 6: so I was happy that McDavid scored in the in
- 21:48Speaker 6: the last game of that series. And everybody made such
- 21:50Speaker 6: a big deal about the US winning Game one, as
- 21:53Speaker 6: it turns out and meant nothing because in the game
- 21:55Speaker 6: that they had to win, they didn't in Boston on Thursday.
- 21:58Speaker 6: But that was a very very very successful tournament. We
- 22:01Speaker 6: all know how great that was. You know, you got
- 22:04Speaker 6: to have it in the non Olympic years, and good
- 22:07Speaker 6: for Canada. So from that standpoint, I'm okay with it.
- 22:10Speaker 7: But I I did think, to be fair, Jay, I
- 22:13Speaker 7: did think it was a little fake the fights before
- 22:17Speaker 7: the first game out in Montreal I work with.
- 22:20Speaker 4: I worked with Stu Grimson, one of the toughest guys
- 22:23Speaker 4: in HL history, and I once I once mentioned to
- 22:26Speaker 4: him the pre determined fights and he grabbed me almost
- 22:30Speaker 4: on air and threw me, threw me over the table.
- 22:33Speaker 4: But my follow up to that is, you got to
- 22:35Speaker 4: think that this Hockey Playoffs is a little bit better
- 22:39Speaker 4: than the NBA Playoffs, no little bit.
- 22:42Speaker 6: What you don't like about the Hockey Playoffs right now
- 22:44Speaker 6: is the Florida Carolina series is a rough series. Uh,
- 22:47Speaker 6: I know, that's a herd. It's it's a it's that's
- 22:50Speaker 6: that's a hard series. They played very much alike and
- 22:53Speaker 6: they're not renowned teams. I think he needed the Leafs
- 22:56Speaker 6: and the Leafs in there in the absolute worst way.
- 22:59Speaker 6: I've always said that the hockey playoffs, earl are so
- 23:02Speaker 6: good because anybody he could win. The hot goalies, like
- 23:06Speaker 6: the hot pitcher in baseball, always have some upsets. I mean,
- 23:10Speaker 6: it's very very good early and those opening rounds with
- 23:13Speaker 6: tremendous Winnipeg Saint Louis the seventh game on top of
- 23:16Speaker 6: what we saw with Dallas and Colorado win a seventh game.
- 23:19Speaker 6: Although the seating idea is stupid. Why Colorado when Dallas
- 23:23Speaker 6: playing the first round every year? Kings and Edmonton is
- 23:27Speaker 6: beyond dumb. One to eight both ways with the Seeds.
- 23:31Speaker 6: But regardless, the hockey usually is wonderful early and maybe
- 23:35Speaker 6: not quite as good as we go on go on,
- 23:39Speaker 6: because you might have a matchup or two that you
- 23:41Speaker 6: don't love. Appy post with this Florida Tampa thing, with
- 23:45Speaker 6: this Florida Carolina thing. While in the NBA, the four
- 23:47Speaker 6: best teams usually advance the NBA. You know, Oklahoma City
- 23:51Speaker 6: is the best team in the West, they advance. Obviously,
- 23:54Speaker 6: Minnesota has been very good. Last year conference final, they advance.
- 23:58Speaker 6: You know, the Knicks Corta Celtic team a little bit leaguered,
- 24:01Speaker 6: but we all knew the Knicks were good. We all
- 24:03Speaker 6: knew Indiana was good. You're gonna get always four good
- 24:06Speaker 6: teams at the end of the day in the NBA,
- 24:09Speaker 6: because the better team always wins in the NBA. In
- 24:11Speaker 6: the NHL, the better team doesn't always advance. Hot goalie,
- 24:15Speaker 6: bounce to the puck, whatever it might be. So you
- 24:18Speaker 6: might have a match up there at the end that's
- 24:20Speaker 6: not that attractive. Carolina Edmonton for a Stanley Cup final.
- 24:24Speaker 6: And in the NBA, you're gonna get Lakers, Celtics, you're
- 24:27Speaker 6: gonna get the Sixers, Celtics in a semi final, you're
- 24:30Speaker 6: gonna get Golden State, Cleveland, Lebron against the better players.
- 24:33Speaker 6: Use the advance not always the case in the NHL.
- 24:36Speaker 6: So I don't love the Florida Carolina series. The Edmonton
- 24:38Speaker 6: Dalla series should be very very good, one hundred percent.
- 24:42Speaker 2: All right, g D, He's gonna bounce we'll take over.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Since you mentioned the Knicks, I mean, this has been
- 24:45Speaker 1: an unbelievable story, Doggie right now, what the Knicks are
- 24:47Speaker 1: doing and Brunts is obviously carrying this team.
- 24:49Speaker 2: Hopefully they can get it done against the Pacers. We'll see.
- 24:51Speaker 1: And you really have captured the imagination of all these
- 24:53Speaker 1: New Yorkers right now because what the Knicks are doing.
- 24:55Speaker 2: But you were around in ninety four, of course you
- 24:57Speaker 2: might talk with the Rangers.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Can you draw any parallels with the Knicks now the
- 25:00Speaker 1: Rangers back then and tell me what that experience was
- 25:02Speaker 1: like when the Rangers finally won the Cup on broad Well.
- 25:05Speaker 6: I think the Knicks are a bigger story now than
- 25:07Speaker 6: they were then because the Knicks and ninety four were
- 25:09Speaker 6: overwhelmed by the Rangers. The Rangers hadn't won in fifty
- 25:13Speaker 6: four years, Messia the comeback against the Devils, they won
- 25:18Speaker 6: the President's Trophies, so they had a lot of pressure
- 25:21Speaker 6: on them and they were the NHL favorites when that
- 25:23Speaker 6: postseason began. You know, they beat Washington and the Islanders.
- 25:27Speaker 6: I think they beat the Islanders first. They beat the
- 25:29Speaker 6: Andanders and they beat Washington. They were eight and one
- 25:32Speaker 6: against those two teams. So the Rangers were the bigger
- 25:35Speaker 6: New York story at the time. I'm not trying to
- 25:38Speaker 6: downplay the Knicks, but it wasn't quite the same place
- 25:41Speaker 6: Jordan had quit, So it was a situation where you know,
- 25:44Speaker 6: you weren't going through Jordan to win a championship because
- 25:46Speaker 6: that was the ninety four was the year, that first
- 25:49Speaker 6: year he tried to baseball. So in ninety three ninety
- 25:52Speaker 6: four it was about the Rangers more than it was
- 25:54Speaker 6: about the Knicks. I'm not saying the Knicks did not
- 25:56Speaker 6: have their issues and it was not fun with the Knicks.
- 25:59Speaker 6: We covered both, but it was more Rangers. This year,
- 26:02Speaker 6: obviously it's all Nicks because it's a surprise. They haven't
- 26:06Speaker 6: been nobody foot. They beat the Celtics, they haven't been
- 26:09Speaker 6: in an NBA Conference final in twenty five years, and
- 26:13Speaker 6: it's a situation where you know people are really into it.
- 26:16Speaker 6: Bruntson's fun, big crowds at the garden. So and they
- 26:19Speaker 6: beat Boston, which is a big factor. So this year
- 26:23Speaker 6: it's much more about in New York. The Knicks. No
- 26:26Speaker 6: Rangers in the playoffs, which obviously plays into it, but
- 26:29Speaker 6: it's even if they were in it's about the Knicks.
- 26:32Speaker 6: Ninety three, ninety four, it was really much more about
- 26:36Speaker 6: the Rangers, and the Rangers paid it off by winning
- 26:38Speaker 6: the Stanley Cup. Knicks of course, News Game seven Houston.
- 26:41Speaker 6: So this is much more of a Knick situation Nick
- 26:44Speaker 6: story in New York right now than it is a
- 26:46Speaker 6: Rangers story. I think the Nick fans all out of
- 26:48Speaker 6: a little too carried away, you know, steat of Brenning here,
- 26:51Speaker 6: you know, after win eight games. I mean they're only
- 26:53Speaker 6: halfway through. You got eight more wins to get. So
- 26:56Speaker 6: I think the Knick fan is a little carried away
- 27:00Speaker 6: right now with their enthusiasm. I know they haven't been
- 27:04Speaker 6: in this step in a long time, but they still
- 27:06Speaker 6: got two steps to go. And I don't know why
- 27:08Speaker 6: you're doing handstands before they got to a even an
- 27:11Speaker 6: NBA final. But the Nixt are the bigger story, Adnan,
- 27:14Speaker 6: right now. The next are the much bigger story in
- 27:15Speaker 6: New York, no question about it.
- 27:17Speaker 1: All Right, Let's talk movies, my friend, you and I
- 27:19Speaker 1: both love movies, and I know you love to complete
- 27:20Speaker 1: unkown the Bob Dylan biopick. Timothy Shallowy did a phenomenal job.
- 27:23Speaker 1: I just watched the sixty minute story in him, he
- 27:25Speaker 1: seems like a great.
- 27:26Speaker 6: Can everyone's really very good.
- 27:27Speaker 2: He's at those Knicks games.
- 27:28Speaker 1: By the way, now, I'm not gonna quibble about the way,
- 27:30Speaker 1: which I know you were so passionate about.
- 27:31Speaker 2: I love to know where the brutalist of substance.
- 27:33Speaker 1: The better question is this, as my friend Dan LeBatard
- 27:36Speaker 1: said to you, when you used your fame and fortune
- 27:38Speaker 1: to go be at the premiere for a complete and numiverseas,
- 27:42Speaker 1: how much of it did you think in yourself? Bob Dylan,
- 27:44Speaker 1: famous recluse who despised ananimity and fame seeking, how displeased
- 27:48Speaker 1: would he be with Matt Dog Russo for you using
- 27:51Speaker 1: your fame to go beat Shaloman.
- 27:53Speaker 6: Yeah, it's a good question. I don't know how Dylan
- 27:55Speaker 6: would have handled that. You're right, how do think Bob
- 27:57Speaker 6: Dinnan's bouncing around and thinking of Chris Russo? Although Bob
- 28:00Speaker 6: Dylan used to go to Celtic Nick games at the Garden,
- 28:02Speaker 6: did you know that in the media and he quietly
- 28:06Speaker 6: in a front row, he'd scream about hibbing because him
- 28:09Speaker 6: and Michale from the same town. So from that perspective,
- 28:12Speaker 6: I thought that I mean that surprised me that he
- 28:14Speaker 6: would do that, but he went to go see I
- 28:16Speaker 6: don't know if it was every time the Celtics came in,
- 28:18Speaker 6: but there was a lot of Dylan sightings at the
- 28:20Speaker 6: garden because of Hbbing. You know, the Chala May thing.
- 28:24Speaker 6: That was really kind of very organic. That's why people
- 28:26Speaker 6: got into it because I'd been screaming about complete unknown
- 28:29Speaker 6: since essentially last summer when I knew the movie was
- 28:32Speaker 6: going to be released on Christmas Day, and then they
- 28:35Speaker 6: didn't have the decency to invite me to the premiere,
- 28:40Speaker 6: which annoyed me, and I used that as they mad about,
- 28:43Speaker 6: which was perfect. And then Charlamey got on top of it.
- 28:46Speaker 6: So from that standpoint, that is the that was the
- 28:49Speaker 6: organic aspect of it. Give Challa May ret it. He
- 28:52Speaker 6: did a great job. When we visited him in London,
- 28:54Speaker 6: we had about ten minutes with him, my daughter and I.
- 28:57Speaker 6: That was the fourth time I had seen the movie.
- 28:59Speaker 6: Crowd loved it at the National Theater there in London.
- 29:02Speaker 6: They gave me a choice to go on a three
- 29:03Speaker 6: spot Paris and Rome or London. I took the first
- 29:07Speaker 6: one London. They did a Q and a early on
- 29:11Speaker 6: the set of the before the movie was shown. I
- 29:14Speaker 6: thought Edmund Norton did a terrible job, by the way.
- 29:16Speaker 6: I mean, oh, I did a terrible jo I said
- 29:19Speaker 6: that on the air. I mean, he just was so disengaged, Eddie,
- 29:23Speaker 6: come on, give give the interviewer a little something for
- 29:27Speaker 6: Christ's sake. He was terrible, terrible on the stage. I
- 29:31Speaker 6: was really down on him for that, but I mean
- 29:33Speaker 6: about him on his I you know, fourth time, I
- 29:35Speaker 6: wish I was the first time I had seen it,
- 29:36Speaker 6: not the fourth time I had seen it. But I
- 29:38Speaker 6: didn't know. If I knew that that was going to
- 29:40Speaker 6: be theirs, I was going to be invited to that
- 29:42Speaker 6: back on Christmas, I wouldn't have even seen it until
- 29:45Speaker 6: Chris until January fourteenth. But you know, Dylan would have
- 29:49Speaker 6: been probably a little perplexed of why I was so
- 29:52Speaker 6: interested in nineteen But a lot of it just wasn't
- 29:55Speaker 6: I loved the music. I loved the I love the
- 29:57Speaker 6: way the music is presented. That's a good part of it.
- 29:59Speaker 6: But I also like nineteen sixty one. A lot of
- 30:02Speaker 6: a lot of it is the idea, like mad you know,
- 30:05Speaker 6: a lot of it is is the time period. I
- 30:08Speaker 6: like that time period a I was born. I can
- 30:11Speaker 6: imagine what it was like for my father because I
- 30:13Speaker 6: was two in nineteen sixty one. So a lot of
- 30:15Speaker 6: it has to do with that because of New York
- 30:18Speaker 6: City and that and that era. But a lot of
- 30:21Speaker 6: it has to do with the folk you know, the
- 30:23Speaker 6: folk genre. I know on Greenwich, you know, and I've
- 30:26Speaker 6: had Roger mcguinna on and everything else. A lot of
- 30:29Speaker 6: it has to do with something along those lines too.
- 30:31Speaker 6: So basically hit both chords. For me, had nine, which
- 30:33Speaker 6: is tremendous, and then I had to pay off there
- 30:36Speaker 6: in England, which is great.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Movie's always a passionate personal vocation, as you said, so
- 30:40Speaker 1: it's cool little the story behind it. Bad Lieutenant comes
- 30:42Speaker 1: out in nineteen ninety two Able Faras film Dark Cedy,
- 30:45Speaker 1: Underworld Harvey Kai Tel and one scene pulls over a
- 30:48Speaker 1: couple of teenage girls and it's I don't want to
- 30:50Speaker 1: get a detail what happens, but there's a lot of
- 30:52Speaker 1: X rated excreamist content. Martin Scor says he loves the film.
- 30:55Speaker 1: He called Bad Lieutenant, Well, the best film is the nineties, really,
- 30:58Speaker 1: but when I asked you about it, you were surprised
- 31:00Speaker 1: you did not know what the content was gonna be
- 31:02Speaker 1: in this movie. For those haven't seen it, the first
- 31:04Speaker 1: voice the movie is Christopher Matt doc Russo because I
- 31:06Speaker 1: tell it's such a depraved cop. He roots against the Mets,
- 31:09Speaker 1: he gambles against him, and it's your voice doing talk radio.
- 31:12Speaker 2: Tell me how you got the gig?
- 31:14Speaker 6: That was the eighty eight That was the He did
- 31:18Speaker 6: a spinoff on the eighty eight postseason with the Mens
- 31:20Speaker 6: and the Dodgers. Yeah, I did. They needed a host
- 31:25Speaker 6: to sort of, as you said, basically be the guy
- 31:27Speaker 6: who kind of does some things in the movie, to
- 31:29Speaker 6: be the soundtrack. Not that in the soundtrack, but I'm
- 31:32Speaker 6: on there two or three times. And we got Bruce
- 31:34Speaker 6: Murray in there too, because Bruce played the caller. I
- 31:38Speaker 6: was at fan I don't know where Bruce was. He
- 31:40Speaker 6: was in DC at the time. I went to a
- 31:42Speaker 6: New York studio, you know, in the morning, and I
- 31:46Speaker 6: may have gone there a couple of different times. And
- 31:49Speaker 6: I did this soundtrack and then I went to go
- 31:51Speaker 6: see the movie. And it is weird that I am
- 31:53Speaker 6: the first voice that you heard, you know, Kit tell
- 31:56Speaker 6: as you said, has got the radio on the dashboard
- 31:58Speaker 6: he's a huge driving around. He's a huge sports sports fan.
- 32:01Speaker 6: I did not know exactly what the movies was about
- 32:05Speaker 6: before I did it. It wasn't like I examined the
- 32:07Speaker 6: script or knew what the theme was going to be.
- 32:11Speaker 6: Would it have changed my involvement? It probably wouldn't have.
- 32:15Speaker 6: You know, I wasn't married then, no children then maybe
- 32:19Speaker 6: today it would not then, and I was. I was
- 32:23Speaker 6: floored when I went, when I went to go see
- 32:25Speaker 6: it to hear my first of I heard to hear
- 32:27Speaker 6: my voice the first up, So it did take me
- 32:30Speaker 6: it back. They did a big it was probably two
- 32:33Speaker 6: years ago. There was a story somewhere where they did
- 32:37Speaker 6: a big They did a big recapturing the film and
- 32:43Speaker 6: the author. I can find it. It was on internet somewhere.
- 32:46Speaker 6: The author did a very good job of talking about
- 32:49Speaker 6: the movie and me because it was the first take,
- 32:52Speaker 6: and they did a very good job about how weird
- 32:54Speaker 6: it is that the guy that is doing it is
- 32:56Speaker 6: the guy you've see now. So there was a lot
- 32:58Speaker 6: of things that were interesting, But I did not know
- 33:00Speaker 6: what the movie was about them and answer the question,
- 33:02Speaker 6: and I did not know what the movie was about
- 33:04Speaker 6: before they presented it to me. I was probably as
- 33:07Speaker 6: shocked as you were when I went there. And his
- 33:09Speaker 6: funny thing is, I did not find it. Like you
- 33:11Speaker 6: and I have different movie tastes. You know, I'm a
- 33:14Speaker 6: place in the sun guy, you are not. But I
- 33:17Speaker 6: did not. I did not find a movie very entertaining.
- 33:21Speaker 6: I'll tell you one thing that I did that you
- 33:22Speaker 6: get into, though, and I think you'd enjoy it. On
- 33:26Speaker 6: when I was in the Caribbean in March, I took
- 33:29Speaker 6: I read six books or five books. One of them
- 33:32Speaker 6: I read was the biography from twenty twenty one by
- 33:37Speaker 6: Mark Harris on Mike Nichols.
- 33:40Speaker 2: Incredible. I read it amazing.
- 33:42Speaker 6: And I put Harris on for an hour middle of March.
- 33:47Speaker 6: When I got back. He's been on before. He wrote
- 33:48Speaker 6: another movie about the part the big movies in the sixties,
- 33:51Speaker 6: you know, Bonnie and Clyde and Heat of the Night
- 33:53Speaker 6: and everything else, and so he had been on before
- 33:56Speaker 6: I put him on, and he was great. And that
- 33:58Speaker 6: book is a tremendous book. Tremendous book. Another great book
- 34:03Speaker 6: that you would like is the biography on Robert Mitcham.
- 34:08Speaker 2: I love that book. Are you kidding, Lee, Server, babe?
- 34:10Speaker 2: I don't care one of my favorite books.
- 34:12Speaker 6: Great book. And Lee Server also did a book on
- 34:15Speaker 6: Ava Gardner Gardner Baby, that's a great book.
- 34:21Speaker 2: That's a great read my life.
- 34:22Speaker 6: Yeah, he I had him on because he also wrote
- 34:26Speaker 6: the book about the mafia guy Johnny whatever his name is,
- 34:29Speaker 6: I forget his name, nineteen seventy six where they found
- 34:32Speaker 6: in an oil bind and the freaking keep as Caine
- 34:34Speaker 6: chopped up wearing a go Uh. But the the movie
- 34:38Speaker 6: with he did, the Mitchen book and the Gardener book
- 34:43Speaker 6: and the Aver Gardner book is good too. I don't
- 34:45Speaker 6: know if you've read.
- 34:45Speaker 2: That my last recommends, but I haven't read it.
- 34:47Speaker 6: But he said this was a very good book. I
- 34:51Speaker 6: had him on. He was great, Uh, Server, But Mitcham
- 34:54Speaker 6: is very interesting. So I love the old biographies of
- 34:57Speaker 6: all the great movie stars. And of course the great
- 34:59Speaker 6: movie that the great book did a Scott Berg diet
- 35:02Speaker 6: on Samuel Goldwyn. That's a good movie, a very good book.
- 35:06Speaker 6: Have you read that about the great director, a great
- 35:08Speaker 6: film producer. He's Scott Berg. You'd like that too.
- 35:11Speaker 1: I'm gonna write that one, Dougs. I've seen I've read
- 35:13Speaker 1: the other two books, but that's gonna be fantastic. The
- 35:16Speaker 1: Mike Nichols Book're Right because a fascinating career was a
- 35:18Speaker 1: great comedy criy right, Elena May and Nichols obviously for
- 35:21Speaker 1: years to graduate. The one thing I didn't like about
- 35:23Speaker 1: Mike Nichols because I love Gary Shandling at Larry Sanders
- 35:26Speaker 1: show of the book.
- 35:26Speaker 6: He didn't like Shandling was awful. Yeah, yeah, he was
- 35:31Speaker 6: down on Shandling and he loved Metow Streep and everything else.
- 35:34Speaker 6: That is a you know, that is an excellent book.
- 35:37Speaker 6: I did try to get Paccino on regarding his memoir,
- 35:41Speaker 6: which is a pretty good memoir. I wasn't able to
- 35:45Speaker 6: do that, and I did do Ben Mankowitz when Hackman died.
- 35:50Speaker 6: When Hackman died, I did that. And then I on
- 35:55Speaker 6: purpose I saw two movies that I wasn't familiar with
- 36:00Speaker 6: with Hackman that I did Narrow Margin.
- 36:04Speaker 2: Okay, I haven't seen it.
- 36:05Speaker 6: It's about a da in La in La who's got
- 36:08Speaker 6: to go up to Canada to get a star witness
- 36:12Speaker 6: for a crime that she saw. And then the other
- 36:15Speaker 6: movie that he did was very good with Night Moves,
- 36:18Speaker 6: Yes seven, where he's an ex football player and in
- 36:22Speaker 6: that movie is what's her name? Who played in Working Girl?
- 36:26Speaker 6: I forget Melanie Griffith. She plays a sixteen year old
- 36:31Speaker 6: and he's got Hackman. He's got to go to Florida
- 36:35Speaker 6: to track her down because he's hired by her movie
- 36:39Speaker 6: star mother to find her. She disappears on some boat.
- 36:43Speaker 6: That's a good movie. So I saw those two Hackman
- 36:45Speaker 6: movies on purpose after he died, So I find my
- 36:47Speaker 6: way to get into the movie realm. I really do well.
- 36:51Speaker 1: And Ben Meg which is an all time great guy,
- 36:52Speaker 1: mean Hollywood loyalty. Obviously, here's a you know, grandfather co
- 36:55Speaker 1: wrote Citizens.
- 36:56Speaker 6: Yeah. If he's a good guy, and he came on
- 36:58Speaker 6: the day after he died for about a half hour,
- 37:02Speaker 6: let the show.
- 37:03Speaker 1: Yeah, that's all to make a huge obviously with Turner
- 37:06Speaker 1: classic movies, movies is great. I don't want to keep
- 37:08Speaker 1: you too long, Dog, you gotta go to your show.
- 37:09Speaker 1: I want to say a couple of baseball's and wan't
- 37:11Speaker 1: let you out of here. You're giants right now, second,
- 37:13Speaker 1: right now in the National League West has been a
- 37:15Speaker 1: great story. I worked to John Stash every years ago
- 37:18Speaker 1: to ESPN. I say, I'm a huge fan of Dog.
- 37:19Speaker 1: What he got from me he goes, Matt dog Russo,
- 37:21Speaker 1: he goes, you only all talk with our fandom.
- 37:23Speaker 2: He goes, he changed once they won, and once they get.
- 37:26Speaker 6: I did I got bored, corrector, he said.
- 37:28Speaker 1: But prior to that, I was at a bar with that.
- 37:31Speaker 1: He goes, he'd be fucking on the table, yelling screen.
- 37:33Speaker 1: He goes, you will not top his passion and his
- 37:36Speaker 1: fandom at its apex for the Giants. I'm just curious
- 37:39Speaker 1: your thoughts on the Giants now having a great season.
- 37:40Speaker 1: I know it's changed over time, but at a time
- 37:42Speaker 1: it was the most important in your life.
- 37:43Speaker 2: Was the San Francisco Giants, right? Yeah?
- 37:44Speaker 6: It sure was really through twenty twelve, that second championship,
- 37:49Speaker 6: and then I kind of lost it. I've seen a
- 37:52Speaker 6: Giants little bit, you know. They remind me a little
- 37:54Speaker 6: bit of the team a few years ago that one
- 37:56Speaker 6: one hundred and seven games and then lost to LA.
- 38:00Speaker 6: They're very resourceful, you know. They went a lot of
- 38:03Speaker 6: crazy games, and it began Opening Day when Flores hit
- 38:07Speaker 6: the game winning home run against Cincinnati when they were
- 38:10Speaker 6: losing with Treilli in the ninth They kind of began
- 38:12Speaker 6: Opening Day. They've won a lot of improbable games, They've
- 38:15Speaker 6: had a lot of incredible comebacks, they got a lot
- 38:19Speaker 6: of you know, they can pitch. You know, Robbie Ray's
- 38:22Speaker 6: had a great year. Obviously, web is a good pitcher.
- 38:25Speaker 6: They have better pitching than you think. They got pretty
- 38:27Speaker 6: good starting pitching. Melvin's a good manager if you give
- 38:30Speaker 6: them something to work with. And the Giants right now
- 38:33Speaker 6: have a little karmer. They got a little cachet and
- 38:35Speaker 6: they have a little they got a little overachieving element
- 38:39Speaker 6: to them right now, and that makes them a little
- 38:41Speaker 6: better than some of the parts. I mean, you know,
- 38:44Speaker 6: each individual guy, you know, Damis and everything else not great.
- 38:47Speaker 6: But when you put them all together, the way they
- 38:50Speaker 6: mix and match, they've done an excellent job. So from
- 38:53Speaker 6: that standpoint, the Giants got a chance, you know, to
- 38:55Speaker 6: be a They beat the Yankees two out of three.
- 38:58Speaker 6: They had a good series in Philadelphia. They haven't played
- 39:00Speaker 6: the Dodgers yet, and they're not and they're one and
- 39:03Speaker 6: four against the Diamond Max and Padres. They've only played
- 39:06Speaker 6: the but you know, I think they have a very
- 39:09Speaker 6: good chance to be in the mix all year long
- 39:11Speaker 6: in the Nationalge. The Braves are down, you know, So
- 39:14Speaker 6: from that standpoint, or the Mets in the Phillies. The
- 39:17Speaker 6: nl Central will probably produce only one team, which then
- 39:21Speaker 6: leaves you a couple of teams there in the NLL.
- 39:23Speaker 6: So that would be three. I leave you maybe three
- 39:26Speaker 6: teams in that NLS. So keep an eye on that.
- 39:29Speaker 6: With San Francisco, they could be in the mix all
- 39:31Speaker 6: year alone. They really could.
- 39:33Speaker 1: And I'm sure on the radio can be talking about one.
- 39:34Speaker 1: Sodo has been facing it right now. He's gone from
- 39:36Speaker 1: one Soto to Soso to one no show because he's
- 39:39Speaker 1: not busting into the box. Meantime, Aaron Judge is a
- 39:41Speaker 1: modern day Berry Bonds be closing a personal note, you know.
- 39:43Speaker 6: And I did I did this, so I did Soto.
- 39:45Speaker 6: I'm mad about today, okay, because I did the statistics.
- 39:48Speaker 6: The fact that didn't run twice, the fact that k
- 39:52Speaker 6: and Clappish got all over them this weekend doesn't seem
- 39:56Speaker 6: to be happy. He Wan, you get paid seven hundred
- 39:58Speaker 6: and sixty five million dollars. You know what You're gonna
- 40:00Speaker 6: be watched carefully. You know, last year Yankees overshadowed the
- 40:04Speaker 6: way attention to Judge too, not as much pressure and
- 40:07Speaker 6: a Yankee fan feeling like they were you know, scorned
- 40:11Speaker 6: what we all knew it was a one year thing
- 40:14Speaker 6: that there is no guarantee you're gonna keep them. I mean,
- 40:17Speaker 6: my god, it was like he was there for ten
- 40:18Speaker 6: years and he left. He's ah goo playing a moon
- 40:21Speaker 6: if the money was right. We all know that. Jeez.
- 40:25Speaker 1: At a last thought, you know how much I admire
- 40:26Speaker 1: and respect you, and I oftentimes think about my own
- 40:29Speaker 1: career of forty six now four kids, and I go, jeez.
- 40:31Speaker 1: You know, normally in these careers, once you get into
- 40:33Speaker 1: your fifties, they shot the phase you out and they
- 40:35Speaker 1: look up at you.
- 40:35Speaker 2: I watch it.
- 40:36Speaker 3: Go.
- 40:36Speaker 1: Man, this guy's still throwing ninety seven. You're still as
- 40:39Speaker 1: popular as ever. Do you ever reflect on your own longevity.
- 40:42Speaker 1: You're a Hall of Famer and still going strong.
- 40:45Speaker 6: You know, I try not to get too wrapped up
- 40:47Speaker 6: in that. I mean, you know, the obviously there's little renaissance.
- 40:50Speaker 6: You gotta give Stephen Ayo the credit for that, because
- 40:53Speaker 6: you know, he brought me in there the day that
- 40:55Speaker 6: Bonds and Clemens were veto for the last time with
- 40:58Speaker 6: the Hall of Fame. He needed the baseball guy. He
- 40:59Speaker 6: did two segments, so you have to give him the
- 41:02Speaker 6: credit because that's face that a lot of this Renaissan
- 41:04Speaker 6: just because of First Take. I've signed a contract since
- 41:08Speaker 6: I started here with the with Serious because of I
- 41:12Speaker 6: think the fact that they love stephen A and I
- 41:15Speaker 6: see his power, and the fact that if stephen A
- 41:18Speaker 6: likes me had a serious not I think that contributed
- 41:21Speaker 6: to me being able to resign a Serious when I
- 41:23Speaker 6: did a year or so ago. Because of the success
- 41:26Speaker 6: I had on First Take, I've done a couple of
- 41:28Speaker 6: other things sort of outside of the realm Vice Network.
- 41:31Speaker 6: I did that verdict thing on Belichick and Brady or
- 41:34Speaker 6: because of I think of ESPN. So I think ESPN's
- 41:38Speaker 6: got to get a lot of credit for this growth
- 41:42Speaker 6: and this. You know, the fact that I haven't seeped
- 41:44Speaker 6: into the woodwork, you know, at the age of sixty
- 41:47Speaker 6: five years of age. So let's give them the credit
- 41:49Speaker 6: for that. And you know the fact is that I've
- 41:51Speaker 6: been able to for whatever the reason. You know, I'm
- 41:54Speaker 6: a radio person, but I can play the TV angle
- 41:58Speaker 6: at least once a week and be effective with it,
- 42:00Speaker 6: hand motion, the way I talk the knowledge of history,
- 42:04Speaker 6: so I can do that, so I can blend into
- 42:07Speaker 6: the history from the radio. I can make that transition.
- 42:10Speaker 6: Not a lot of guys can do that, you know.
- 42:13Speaker 6: I actually think the radio to TV journey is easier
- 42:19Speaker 6: content wise, harder talking to a camera and being quick
- 42:23Speaker 6: with your responses. I think the TV radio thing no
- 42:28Speaker 6: issues with you know, how you look, how you present it.
- 42:32Speaker 6: The issue there becomes content because radio is longer with content.
- 42:37Speaker 6: TV is shorter with content. It's all about presentation. Radio
- 42:41Speaker 6: it's all about making sure you know you can fill
- 42:44Speaker 6: up a three hour show. So you've got to be
- 42:46Speaker 6: able to do both. I've always been able to do
- 42:48Speaker 6: the radio and the fact that I can do this
- 42:50Speaker 6: at least a day a week, it's not every day.
- 42:52Speaker 6: At least a day a week. I've shown that I
- 42:54Speaker 6: can make a contribution on the TV and fit in
- 42:58Speaker 6: with the modern age, which is important.
- 43:02Speaker 1: You mentioned the VERDICTO was just in your interviewed me
- 43:04Speaker 1: because they wanted to ask me about some of the
- 43:06Speaker 1: de basic.
- 43:06Speaker 2: Of season two, which you'll be a part of.
- 43:08Speaker 1: It's Otani versus Bonds, Ruth versus Dion, and as I'm
- 43:13Speaker 1: getting up to leave, I said, sorry, I don't know
- 43:14Speaker 1: anything about golf. It's Nicholas versus Tiger, and I don't
- 43:17Speaker 1: know anything about soccer, Messy versus Ronald the guy actually were
- 43:19Speaker 1: doing tennis Tiger.
- 43:20Speaker 2: Excuse me to go.
- 43:21Speaker 1: I want to give you my thoughts on Federer, so
- 43:22Speaker 1: I give him ten minutes of gold on Federer.
- 43:24Speaker 2: You're gonna love it, I said, Doggie, I love it very.
- 43:26Speaker 6: Good, because we're gonna do that. We're gonna do five
- 43:28Speaker 6: topics and Federer and Nadal and Djokovic is going to
- 43:31Speaker 6: be one of the topics, and Ruth o'tani is going
- 43:34Speaker 6: to be one of the topics. And you mentioned you know,
- 43:37Speaker 6: Dion and Bo Jackson. That's where it came in.
- 43:40Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 43:41Speaker 1: Listen, the most important thing is not the way a
- 43:43Speaker 1: man is on the air, the way he treats people,
- 43:45Speaker 1: whether it's Bruce, whether it's Rich Savino, whether it's guys
- 43:47Speaker 1: like me. Admire, you've always given us the time. You've
- 43:49Speaker 1: always been respectful. You're an all time great guy. And
- 43:52Speaker 1: again you're making time for us. Doggie, you're the best.
- 43:53Speaker 6: We miss it about the man. You're my fan club,
- 43:55Speaker 6: but I gotta remember that you're part of my fan club.
- 43:57Speaker 2: He and Jimmy trained.
- 43:58Speaker 1: Thank you, buddy, Yes, you and Jimmy good job.
- 44:01Speaker 6: Appreciate it. Thanks guys, Thanks Jimmy.
- 44:13Speaker 2: Thank you so much for mad Dog again.
- 44:15Speaker 1: You can always catch his show on Serious of course
- 44:17Speaker 1: from three until seven Eastern and on First Take every week.
- 44:20Speaker 1: Hopefully more hockey talk. Maybe he'll be locked into the
- 44:22Speaker 1: cup file next time we speak to him. Cine found
- 44:24Speaker 1: sixty Quick and Dirty here and Lelo and Stitch in theaters.
- 44:26Speaker 2: They continue, yes, continue, JD.
- 44:28Speaker 1: The trend here which I'm quite annoyed by, which is
- 44:30Speaker 1: taking the animated movies that making it a live action film.
- 44:33Speaker 3: So oh, the awful.
- 44:34Speaker 1: It's just a complete lack of inspiration here.
- 44:37Speaker 2: Just recycling the same crap.
- 44:38Speaker 1: So oh, we saw The Lion King, the animated film,
- 44:41Speaker 1: which is absolute classic, and I have to go watch
- 44:43Speaker 1: the live action nonsense.
- 44:44Speaker 2: So unfortunately the trend continues to Lelo and Stitch.
- 44:46Speaker 1: My first thought to is this, I took three of
- 44:48Speaker 1: my boys who went the Dolby Theater, which is the
- 44:50Speaker 1: better theater here in local premuse, New Jersey.
- 44:53Speaker 2: The big thing here.
- 44:54Speaker 1: The reason I took it is I want the reclining seats.
- 44:55Speaker 1: Quite honestly, so the reclining seats.
- 44:57Speaker 2: Gotta pay ale extra four prices, four tickets. What do
- 45:00Speaker 2: you think I'm gonna tell me to the ticket prices.
- 45:02Speaker 4: Four tickets, four tickets reclining. See, it's probably thirty one
- 45:06Speaker 4: dollars a ticket.
- 45:07Speaker 2: It just gets a total price.
- 45:08Speaker 3: You was at thirty one and twenty, okay, tal, you
- 45:11Speaker 3: don't know how to do math.
- 45:14Speaker 2: Thirty Well, you guys.
- 45:15Speaker 1: You guys are clearly not going the theater as much.
- 45:17Speaker 1: You're going to hire them theaters than I am. Eighty
- 45:20Speaker 1: seven dollars for four tickets, so I thought was outrageous.
- 45:22Speaker 1: You guys thought I got to steal. Apparently, Yeah, twenty.
- 45:24Speaker 4: Why do I go to ipick, which like the food
- 45:26Speaker 4: and the I would go to IPA that might me
- 45:29Speaker 4: serve like a king?
- 45:30Speaker 2: All right?
- 45:30Speaker 1: How about large popcorn and three slushes? You want to
- 45:32Speaker 1: take a guests of that price for you?
- 45:34Speaker 3: Six thousand dollars?
- 45:35Speaker 2: Thirty seven dollars god.
- 45:37Speaker 4: Burn popcorn for burnt popcorn with greasy butter and salt.
- 45:41Speaker 1: But I take full advantage of that free refill for
- 45:43Speaker 1: a large So I'm like, I wait hour too.
- 45:44Speaker 2: The movie kids a little restless, don't worry, let's get
- 45:46Speaker 2: a little large.
- 45:47Speaker 1: I can't say much, but the film, I meanlest it's
- 45:49Speaker 1: a nice movie for kids. My kids certainly enjoyed it.
- 45:51Speaker 1: I will say I'm always amused by the veteran character
- 45:54Speaker 1: actors suposed to be to go why is in this movie?
- 45:56Speaker 1: And in this case, that guy would be Zach Alfanakus,
- 45:58Speaker 1: everyone's favorite from The Hangover. One of the funniest movie
- 46:01Speaker 1: is The Century. I'm like, just clearly cashing a paycheck. Hey,
- 46:03Speaker 1: we want to put you in Lelo and Stitch is
- 46:05Speaker 1: the bad guy can be a little bit of bugging.
- 46:06Speaker 2: We'll give you an X amount of points on the
- 46:08Speaker 2: I'll take it. Zach Galvina, this is where his career is.
- 46:11Speaker 1: Now when you see that, did you see to yourself, Hey,
- 46:13Speaker 1: that's just an actor taking a taking a little job,
- 46:16Speaker 1: or do you get a little sad and go?
- 46:17Speaker 6: Man?
- 46:17Speaker 2: This guy was really making people laugh.
- 46:18Speaker 1: And now he's in Lelo and Stitch the lower story
- 46:21Speaker 1: of an alien coming and befriending a little Hawaiian girl.
- 46:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I listen. I don't know.
- 46:29Speaker 4: I mean it's like, if you're you're providing for your family,
- 46:32Speaker 4: and I mean, if that's what you want to do,
- 46:35Speaker 4: you know, I'm always like, I always laugh when you
- 46:37Speaker 4: know some actors are like, oh, like, why would you
- 46:39Speaker 4: get typecast and I'm like, shit, they're gonna keep paying
- 46:41Speaker 4: you to play the same person over and over again.
- 46:44Speaker 3: Don't interrupt him.
- 46:45Speaker 4: Just cash it and go make enough money so you
- 46:48Speaker 4: can create your own movies. I mean, and then you
- 46:50Speaker 4: can you can make your own shit. You know, one
- 46:52Speaker 4: for you, one for you, two for them, or whatever
- 46:55Speaker 4: it is. It's always a one for you, one for them.
- 46:56Speaker 4: She makes some crappy commercial way, then you make one
- 46:58Speaker 4: independent art.
- 46:59Speaker 3: Yeah, but I mean I haven't.
- 47:00Speaker 4: I haven't seen much of Zach And I mean you
- 47:03Speaker 4: it's tough because you look at those comedians that had
- 47:06Speaker 4: those kind of like raunchy comedies. Do you see many
- 47:08Speaker 4: of those anymore? Like it's the comedy world and movies
- 47:11Speaker 4: is taking touch. A has taken such a kick in
- 47:15Speaker 4: the d.
- 47:16Speaker 2: It's a great point. You say, Oh, this is the
- 47:18Speaker 2: summer of the hangover, this is the summer. There's something
- 47:20Speaker 2: about it.
- 47:20Speaker 3: Yeah, there's nothing to that. Yeah, you don't have that anymore.
- 47:23Speaker 4: So these guys are just ship out of luck and
- 47:25Speaker 4: they got to go take you know, you gotta be
- 47:27Speaker 4: Jim Carrey's got to be doctor Robotaneck, another son taking
- 47:32Speaker 4: some crappy roll in.
- 47:32Speaker 3: A yeah, I think it, Brad.
- 47:34Speaker 4: It's pretty good movie though, so that definitely. Actually, yeah,
- 47:37Speaker 4: he puts a little puts a little flair to it.
- 47:40Speaker 1: Tell once your son gets a little older, maybe go
- 47:41Speaker 1: take him see Lelo and Stitch unless he's clamoring to
- 47:43Speaker 1: go see it right now, unless he likes aliens who
- 47:45Speaker 1: love Elvis.
- 47:46Speaker 2: I mean that was the other upside too. We did
- 47:47Speaker 2: get a good Elvis soundtrack, Devil.
- 47:49Speaker 3: In discussion you did. Oh yeah, beautiful.
- 47:51Speaker 1: All right, let's get by the way, coming up next,
- 47:53Speaker 1: I want to tease this now centopon sixty, I will
- 47:55Speaker 1: be checking out Gillian Muller's Porno.
- 47:58Speaker 2: Which are you? Yeah?
- 47:59Speaker 1: I made sure I checked on Amazon because Jadi didn't
- 48:01Speaker 1: mention Amazon. And nothing worse, by the way, looking up
- 48:04Speaker 1: your buddy and writing porno like my buddy's wife.
- 48:06Speaker 2: I got at Gillian Miller Porno.
- 48:07Speaker 4: That's what's funny is everybody goes, oh, it's a porno,
- 48:09Speaker 4: and I'm like, no, it's a horror movie about a
- 48:13Speaker 4: possessed porn film that it hits again. It one's it
- 48:17Speaker 4: won at south By Southwest. It's actually like, it's actually
- 48:20Speaker 4: an interesting the way they shot it and filled it
- 48:22Speaker 4: and it has some acclaim to it. So yeah, and
- 48:25Speaker 4: there was talk initially of them like finding distribution.
- 48:27Speaker 3: But yeah, it is.
- 48:28Speaker 4: When you look up, I feel like, was you way
- 48:32Speaker 4: from the movie. I'm like, yeah, a movie on Amazon?
- 48:34Speaker 4: What's it called Porno. They're like, oh, oh, so you're
- 48:38Speaker 4: a So you're a cock and I'm like, now, it's
- 48:43Speaker 4: actually a horror movie, but a bunch of kids in
- 48:45Speaker 4: an abandoned movie theater.
- 48:47Speaker 1: You mentioned h Blaschell earlier again another retread here, like
- 48:51Speaker 1: I'm all for it. I mean, whatever, but the main
- 48:53Speaker 1: man behind the bench of the black Hawks three seasons
- 48:56Speaker 1: on John Cooper's staff.
- 48:57Speaker 2: He was the head coach of Detroit Red Wicks for
- 48:59Speaker 2: seven seasons. I'm shocked he was.
- 49:00Speaker 1: There's seven seasons. I thought it was three or four.
- 49:01Speaker 1: So he knows what it's like to do a rebuild.
- 49:03Speaker 1: He won the call Detroit's h all team, the Grand Rapids.
- 49:06Speaker 1: Griffins later became the guy in Dallas. You made the
- 49:09Speaker 1: playoffs in his first season behind the bench, but then
- 49:11Speaker 1: they missed the playoffs the next six seasons. I mean,
- 49:13Speaker 1: you're trying to rebuild a team in Chicago, which is
- 49:15Speaker 1: pretty bad. Patience is required as all I would say
- 49:17Speaker 1: to Jeff Blaschell.
- 49:19Speaker 4: I yeah, I think they're a long ways away, and
- 49:22Speaker 4: I think this is probably they need another in between coach.
- 49:25Speaker 4: I think they just needed a coach to get their
- 49:27Speaker 4: identity and then they'll go get the big coach. But
- 49:30Speaker 4: there's a lot of options out there. I just don't
- 49:32Speaker 4: know how sexy of a position this was, you know,
- 49:38Speaker 4: I don't know if this was something that the highly
- 49:40Speaker 4: touted guys were looking at, being like yeah, like a
- 49:42Speaker 4: Joe quinnvill was like I want this. You know, he's
- 49:45Speaker 4: much better suited to going Anaheim. So I just think
- 49:47Speaker 4: people interviewed for but I don't know, if you know,
- 49:50Speaker 4: the juice is worth the squeeze for a lot of these,
- 49:53Speaker 4: you know, more these bigger time coaches. So nothing against
- 49:56Speaker 4: Jeff Blashell. I think Jeff Blashell will use this as
- 49:58Speaker 4: a as probably a springboard to you know, if he
- 50:01Speaker 4: could really turn this around in Chicago. This is going
- 50:04Speaker 4: to only improve his stock. And if he doesn't, well,
- 50:06Speaker 4: you know you could just blame it on blame it
- 50:08Speaker 4: on the rain, blame it on Connor Bdard and you know,
- 50:11Speaker 4: just say I'm out. But yeah, it's I'm more interested
- 50:15Speaker 4: to see the assistant coaching staff what they bring and
- 50:18Speaker 4: I think Andre Sorenson is staying on and as an assistant,
- 50:22Speaker 4: which I heard he's very liked as an assistant around
- 50:27Speaker 4: that team. But I'm just interested to see who else
- 50:29Speaker 4: they bring in and how they round out that staff. Yeah,
- 50:32Speaker 4: see what happens.
- 50:33Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, I don't want to call it uninspired
- 50:35Speaker 1: higher but it's an uninspired team roll.
- 50:37Speaker 4: So yeah, I mean they got to be happy about
- 50:39Speaker 4: Frank Naser as I segue for you, Yeah, beautiful segue.
- 50:43Speaker 2: Well this is great.
- 50:44Speaker 1: I mean you were all over this tage tops Is
- 50:46Speaker 1: scoring the golden goal two minutes and two seconds in overtime.
- 50:48Speaker 1: Jeremy swimming twenty five saves US beats Switzerland won nothing
- 50:52Speaker 1: in Stockholm the DOUAAHF World Championship, first time since nineteen
- 50:55Speaker 1: thirty three.
- 50:56Speaker 2: They technically were crowned world champions in.
- 50:58Speaker 1: Nineteen sixty when they won Olympic gold, but there's no
- 51:00Speaker 1: actual world championship tournament that year, so a historic win
- 51:03Speaker 1: for the America is heading into the Olympics, we got
- 51:05Speaker 1: eight months until we get to Milan again.
- 51:07Speaker 2: Gendi.
- 51:07Speaker 1: For those who want to aware you play the World Championships.
- 51:09Speaker 1: You know what this tournament is like, awful result for Canada.
- 51:12Speaker 1: It's just brutal because not to get to the Semis, which.
- 51:15Speaker 3: Is where we won four nations.
- 51:16Speaker 1: So with Sidney Crossey coming back, you're right, we did
- 51:18Speaker 1: win four nations. But props the American's nice win for them.
- 51:21Speaker 4: I mean, you look back, you know nineteen thirty three
- 51:24Speaker 4: when gas was like twenty cents, it's cost you fifty cents. Yeah,
- 51:30Speaker 4: and now it's their win. That's how long ago it was.
- 51:32Speaker 4: I mean, congratulations this. You know, we're two Canadians and
- 51:36Speaker 4: you know I had lost in a shootout in World
- 51:38Speaker 4: Championships to Sweden and had such a great opportunity to win.
- 51:43Speaker 4: And you know, I still love that tournament. I think
- 51:46Speaker 4: it's a great tournam. It's a tournament where guys have
- 51:47Speaker 4: to volunteer. You know, they call a lot of guys
- 51:50Speaker 4: and a lot of guys will turn it down, but
- 51:51Speaker 4: you have to agree to go there. It's not like this,
- 51:54Speaker 4: not necessarily it's a highly touted It wasn't a highly
- 51:57Speaker 4: touted tournament. But you see guys having more pride, wanting
- 52:00Speaker 4: to go. Better players there, and I mean, this young,
- 52:03Speaker 4: kind of up start American team, you're starting.
- 52:07Speaker 3: You know.
- 52:07Speaker 4: I was talking to John Torcetti on NHL tonight and
- 52:10Speaker 4: I am, yeah, I asked him. I asked him about
- 52:13Speaker 4: I asked him about it, and he was like, it's
- 52:15Speaker 4: a lot of the US Development Program kids that are
- 52:19Speaker 4: now you know, they've won at that stage, they've won
- 52:21Speaker 4: in the World Juniors, and now they're like taking this
- 52:24Speaker 4: and they love playing for Team USA. So they're starting
- 52:26Speaker 4: to build a culture around these guys. And and you
- 52:29Speaker 4: see it. And I mean, listen, Frank Naser had an
- 52:31Speaker 4: unbelievable tournament, Connor Garland unbelievable tournament, Logan Cooley, The list
- 52:35Speaker 4: goes on and on. Obviously, Tage Thompson, it's nice to
- 52:38Speaker 4: see him get a win after being a Buffalo for
- 52:40Speaker 4: so long and seeing what that tastes like. So I
- 52:43Speaker 4: think he's going to pull that into next season. And
- 52:46Speaker 4: you know, they had such a great team. And then
- 52:47Speaker 4: obviously just the the sentiment of bringing out the Johnny
- 52:51Speaker 4: Goodau jersey.
- 52:52Speaker 3: Uh, you know, what a what a great you.
- 52:55Speaker 4: Know, amount of you know, I don't even just great
- 52:58Speaker 4: closure for that situation and that family and to win
- 53:02Speaker 4: that World Championships. I think just amazing and you know,
- 53:06Speaker 4: you know, gone but never forgotten. But again, this this
- 53:09Speaker 4: Team USA team, you know, and and this Team USA
- 53:12Speaker 4: organization is really pushing hard, and I think this is
- 53:16Speaker 4: a good start for them going into the Olympics. And
- 53:19Speaker 4: I'm sure there's a lot of young guys there that
- 53:21Speaker 4: made a case. They're like, hey, like, we don't want
- 53:23Speaker 4: to be left off this team again because this means
- 53:26Speaker 4: a lot to us. And you saw it just by
- 53:28Speaker 4: their celebration. And I was texting with a bunch of
- 53:30Speaker 4: the guys, Clayton Keller, guys, I played with, Michael kessel Ring,
- 53:34Speaker 4: you know, very happy for them and and I know
- 53:36Speaker 4: this is something that was really high in their list
- 53:38Speaker 4: to win. So it's a great tournament to win. And
- 53:40Speaker 4: I'm sure they're going to be uh hung titties this morning.
- 53:44Speaker 1: Anytime you're repping your repping your country and you went,
- 53:47Speaker 1: I'm what the tournament is.
- 53:48Speaker 2: It's great to say we got those guys three stars.
- 53:51Speaker 2: I'll kick it off.
- 53:51Speaker 1: You don't goal with this Brad Marsham and gettingdairy Queen
- 53:54Speaker 1: on his off day he scored.
- 53:56Speaker 4: Fourth and then trying and then trying to get a
- 53:59Speaker 4: then trying to get a sponsorship.
- 54:01Speaker 2: That was the best part. Live by Bukowskas a sport.
- 54:04Speaker 2: He's like, we just have this picture of you here
- 54:06Speaker 2: at eating dairy Queen.
- 54:07Speaker 1: He's like, yeah, day off chalship Cookie Dell had to
- 54:10Speaker 1: get it in.
- 54:10Speaker 2: Nothing better than a Sunday Dairy Queen. Balls in your court.
- 54:14Speaker 1: If d Q doesn't sponsor Brad Marsian, that is a
- 54:16Speaker 1: giant loss for all of us. Love d Q, Love Marsian.
- 54:19Speaker 1: He's been a hell of a player for long. Domatic
- 54:21Speaker 1: great series of the Panthers.
- 54:22Speaker 3: I loved it. Go ahead, Tal, Yeah for.
- 54:26Speaker 2: Me, I'm going with Ryan, Ryan, NuGen Hopkins. The guys
- 54:29Speaker 2: pass stud.
- 54:30Speaker 5: I mean, has been an absolute stud for Edmonton. We've
- 54:33Speaker 5: been talking about how important their depth scoring has been
- 54:35Speaker 5: these playoffs. He's been leading the charge there. Three assists
- 54:39Speaker 5: in Game three. He has seven points in the series
- 54:41Speaker 5: with Dallas. That's more than Leon, that's more than Connor McDavid.
- 54:45Speaker 5: That's more than any player in the series. And he's
- 54:49Speaker 5: actually in the last four years when Edmonton has been
- 54:51Speaker 5: a steady playoff performer, making deep runs every year. He's
- 54:55Speaker 5: at about a point per game through those four playoff runs.
- 54:58Speaker 5: So let's give this guy a little more, you know,
- 55:01Speaker 5: a little more credit.
- 55:02Speaker 4: He's been great a STUDI observation Talvivinchevsky astute. I actually
- 55:08Speaker 4: saw on your notes he put NuGen Hopkins and I
- 55:10Speaker 4: was like, damn, that was my pick.
- 55:11Speaker 3: H No, I have to go.
- 55:13Speaker 4: I mentioned him earlier, Evan Bouchard. Evan Bouchard is gonna
- 55:17Speaker 4: get fucking paid this year, as he should. I, you know,
- 55:23Speaker 4: I quantify excellences as guys that can perform in the playoffs,
- 55:28Speaker 4: and he elevates his game to another level. I mean
- 55:31Speaker 4: the stat of him being just behind Bobby Horror, Bobby
- 55:35Speaker 4: not Bobby Horror, Bobby Orr.
- 55:37Speaker 2: And that's actually Miller's pornal.
- 55:39Speaker 3: There's Jason clean it.
- 55:42Speaker 1: Up four points per game of the playoffs, Buschyard one
- 55:45Speaker 1: point one two go ahead.
- 55:47Speaker 4: That and and that is just insane numbers. And what
- 55:51Speaker 4: he's doing in the Bousche Bomb. But the way he's
- 55:54Speaker 4: playing defensively as well with Brett coole Af they're playing
- 55:56Speaker 4: without Mantia Sekkolm, and he's playing bigger defensive minutes hasn't
- 56:00Speaker 4: been a liability. He just moves the pucks so well.
- 56:03Speaker 4: Shoots the puck so well, and you know, I just
- 56:06Speaker 4: think he's on another level right now. And credit to
- 56:09Speaker 4: him who takes He takes a lot of guff and
- 56:12Speaker 4: bally who from a lot of people in the media
- 56:15Speaker 4: and fans, you know, just because at times he looks lasadaisical.
- 56:20Speaker 4: But I just think it's him what makes him so
- 56:23Speaker 4: frustrating at times when he's just like kind of nonchalant,
- 56:26Speaker 4: is what makes him so good, because he's just so
- 56:28Speaker 4: calm under pressure and calm in the pocket when the
- 56:31Speaker 4: bullets are flying and whizzing by, he is calm, cool, collected.
- 56:37Speaker 2: We're gonna props to those stars.
- 56:38Speaker 1: Show up the stars who are not shine. We'll bury
- 56:40Speaker 1: these guys in the way out. Jamie Benn won goal
- 56:42Speaker 1: in sixteen games of the playoffs. Jason Robinson one and nine,
- 56:44Speaker 1: Mason marsh With one in sixteen, Why Johnson one and nine,
- 56:48Speaker 1: down and Off one in sixteen, Sagan two in his
- 56:50Speaker 1: last thirteen do Shane one in sixteen.
- 56:53Speaker 2: We'll see if the stars can pick it up. Will
- 56:54Speaker 2: be back fourche scripted later the week.
- 56:56Speaker 4: Go ahead, you know why before we leave, Because Stewart
- 56:59Speaker 4: Skinner is the greatest goalie ever created Yeah yeah Ah.
- 57:05Speaker 2: The skin Man.
