- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 77 — can you believe it? Lucas: I know. And today we're tackling something super practical — checking into a hotel. Luna: Oh that's perfect. I've got a trip coming up and I'd love to try this in Swahili. Lucas: Then let's start with the most important phrase: 'Nina nafasi.' Say that after me: Nina nafasi. Luna: Nina nafasi. That means... 'I have a reservation'? Or 'I have space'? Lucas: Exactly. 'Nina' means I have, and 'nafasi' is reservation or space. So 'Nina nafasi' — I have a reservation. Let's hear you say it again. Luna: Nina nafasi. Lucas: Perfect. Now, when you arrive at the hotel, you might ask: 'Saa ngapi tunaweza kuingia?' That means 'What time can we check in?' Let's break it down: 'Saa ngapi' — what time, 'tunaweza' — we can, 'kuingia' — to enter. Together: Saa ngapi tunaweza kuingia? Luna: Saa ngapi tunaweza kuingia? That's a mouthful but I love the rhythm. Lucas: You got it. Try it once more. Luna: Saa ngapi tunaweza kuingia? Lucas: Beautiful. Now, once you're checked in, you'll need a key. Say 'Nahitaji ufunguo.' — I need a key. Luna: Nahitaji ufunguo. 'Nahitaji' is I need, right? Lucas: Right. And 'ufunguo' is key. So 'Nahitaji ufunguo.' Let's practice that together. Luna: Nahitaji ufunguo. Lucas: Great. Now you might also ask: 'Chumba changu kiko wapi?' — Where is my room? 'Chumba' is room, 'changu' means my, 'kiko wapi' is where is. Luna: Chumba changu kiko wapi? That's so useful. I can imagine saying that after a long flight. Lucas: Exactly. And a polite thing to say to the hotel staff: 'Asante kwa msaada wako.' — Thank you for your help. Luna: Asante kwa msaada wako. That's lovely. 'Msaada' is help, and 'wako' is your. Lucas: You're a natural. Let's put all five together in a mini scene. Imagine you walk into a hotel lobby. You say to the receptionist: 'Nina nafasi.' Luna: Nina nafasi. Lucas: Then you ask: 'Saa ngapi tunaweza kuingia?' Luna: Saa ngapi tunaweza kuingia? Lucas: They tell you 3pm. You say: 'Nahitaji ufunguo.' Luna: Nahitaji ufunguo. Lucas: They hand you a key and point — you ask: 'Chumba changu kiko wapi?' Luna: Chumba changu kiko wapi? Lucas: They show you. You smile: 'Asante kwa msaada wako.' Luna: Asante kwa msaada wako. Lucas: You just checked into a hotel in Swahili. That felt good, right? Luna: It really did. I'm actually excited to try this for real. Luna: Chumba changu kiko wapi? Lucas: Asante kwa msaada wako. Luna: Asante kwa msaada wako. Lucas: Excellent. Practice these before your next trip, and you'll be ready. That's it for Episode 77 of Learn Swahili with Fexingo. Luna: Tutaonana baadaye — see you later! Lucas: Kwaheri — goodbye.
