- 0:15episode of the Christian re podcast.
- 0:17Today's guest is a singer-songwriter Tick-Tock star
- 0:21and vintage enthusiasts hailing all the way from Hampshire in
- 0:24the United Kingdom. Her name is Isabel Alan.
- 0:26Welcome to the show. How you doing?
- 0:28Oh I'm good. Thank you I'm doing good.
- 0:31Now for those listings podcast they won't actually get to see
- 0:34this. So I recommend all of the
- 0:36listeners of the podcast. Go check out the video version
- 0:38on YouTube. We can see in the backdrop of
- 0:42Izzie's room there. There is about I don't know.
- 0:44Probably hundreds of posters in the background.
- 0:47Everything from David Bowie, Hendrix, the doors, Kiss, Pink,
- 0:51Floyd everything. It's very, very cool room.
- 0:53How long did it actually take to just kind of like, assemble all
- 0:57of that together? Well, that's a question.
- 0:59I get asked a lot because, I mean, it doesn't look like it
- 1:02took a while, but I started playing like small posters in my
- 1:06room when I was like, 14, 15, like, so about three years ago,
- 1:11but I didn't if you were literally to have All of these
- 1:14with the blank wall. I think it'd probably take like
- 1:18a day and like I wouldn't just because the ceiling was so hard
- 1:23to do. Like I almost like fell off my
- 1:25bed so many times but it I really like it.
- 1:29And since it's a sight to behold, I mean because I'll just
- 1:32say for our listeners I discovered Isabel or is he on
- 1:36Tick-Tock? And I think the first thing I
- 1:38was drawn by was wow, that's a cool room.
- 1:40And then obviously, I saw the things you're interested in and
- 1:43your Slightly bit younger than me and I was like, oh, that's
- 1:46cool. It's cooler.
- 1:48The next generation is into this stuff because you are Mom close
- 1:52to 30. Now, I'm getting, I'm ancient.
- 1:56But the interesting thing about my generation your generation is
- 1:58that like, there's always this kind of appreciation for decades
- 2:02prior. So like right now, you know,
- 2:04there's a lot of people that are really big on like 80 staff and
- 2:07whatnot, that happened when I was growing up.
- 2:10When I was when I was young, there was this kind of 80s
- 2:13Revival thing and that happens quite often, you know, I mean
- 2:15you have like a bit of a like right now they're trying to
- 2:18bring back 2000s fashion. It's not going to happen.
- 2:20It was bad, then it's bad. Now the second-hand clothes from
- 2:26our young girls, like, That's the thing.
- 2:30Like those those errors that I get, I get why you're into these
- 2:32things and I get why these things become are perpetually
- 2:35cool because like, I don't know, it's kind of Timeless fashion,
- 2:40do you know? I mean there's some fashions
- 2:42that when you look at them, you like that.
- 2:43So that's never gonna come back but then you never, no, you
- 2:47never do know. I mean some of the fashions that
- 2:49I was dressing in back in the 2000s and some of the music.
- 2:52I was listening to, I hear people trying to bring that back
- 2:55now. And I find it interesting
- 2:56because it's like Some of it was was okay some of it was good but
- 3:00a lot of it was very of the time and a bit kind of over-the-top
- 3:04as far as I experimentation is concerned.
- 3:07So it's like but no to get to the more important thing that I
- 3:11wanted to ask you is where did this kind of interest and
- 3:14appreciation of retro things kind of begin because it's one
- 3:18thing to be interested in these things you know for me I've
- 3:21gotten like into all of these different bands through my mom
- 3:24and her record collection. You know it was like I'm a
- 3:26coming home Listing to think it was Lincoln Park Hybrid Theory.
- 3:31And I was like, where can I get more like music like this?
- 3:34And she said, here's all my records and there was everything
- 3:37from Hendricks Metallica and Ivana, I think was Motorhead a
- 3:42lot of cool things and it was all very varied.
- 3:44But through that obviously later on I discovered bands, like the
- 3:46doors and Bowie and all that stuff.
- 3:48But for me it was always kind of like okay cool.
- 3:51I like this music and I like new music but there's a lot of
- 3:54people like yourself that are kind of embracing these bygone
- 3:58eras and like fully immersing themselves in almost like living
- 4:01in that time in a kind of like time bubble with in our modern
- 4:04times. So like talk to me about how
- 4:06this kind of started for you and how its evolved to the point
- 4:09that it's at. Now I think my dad, when he was
- 4:14younger, he used to be a big fan of like 80's glam, rock kind of
- 4:18stuff and when I was younger he would always playing the car and
- 4:22I think the two bands that I like Most was Whitesnake and
- 4:30queen. When I was younger, I used to be
- 4:31absolutely obsessed with green, but only the latest stuff which
- 4:35I find through horrible. Now, like, I don't know why, but
- 4:40I remember my dad took me to see.
- 4:42We will rock you when I was younger and Brian may actually
- 4:45like appeared at the end and play Bohemian Rhapsody, which is
- 4:48absolutely sick. That's so cool.
- 4:51And I think I really like to learn stuff when I was younger
- 4:56and then probably when I was about ten to twelve eight, I
- 5:02went through this weird phase of liking bands like Fall Out Boy,
- 5:05which I don't want to ever mention.
- 5:07We're too late. Yeah.
- 5:10And then I start like Kiss, I found the Beatles when I was
- 5:17about twelve miles like Dan these.
- 5:19These guys are so cool. Like and so yeah, that's kind of
- 5:25where it all came from. And then I was like, I stole my
- 5:28dad CDs, my dad had a bunch of really sick records.
- 5:32He told me and he left them in the garage and they all walked,
- 5:35which is no. My so sad.
- 5:39Yeah, like probably most of us from stealing my dad CDs.
- 5:44And yes. So where do you kind of sit
- 5:47with, with modern music? I obviously, we know we all know
- 5:50that you're really into your old music and your classic and music
- 5:53and whatnot. But like, do you have like zero
- 5:56interest In modern music, or is it just kind of like you feel
- 6:00kind of like older music is just generally better because, you
- 6:03know, I've met a lot of people, I've always been a musician,
- 6:05always been involved in music in some shape or form.
- 6:07And I've met people, all sorts of types are some people are
- 6:10like, no, the best music was made before this error.
- 6:13And there's other people that like because like for me,
- 6:16personally, I sit on the fence of like most of the music.
- 6:19I listen to is from a bygone era, but there's a lot of modern
- 6:22stuff that I listen to as well, that I think is worthy of this.
- 6:27See every now and again something comes through and I'm
- 6:29like, oh that's pretty good. You can normally here influences
- 6:32that so to give you an example, Mac, DeMarco as an example in
- 6:37him, I can hear like beetles. I can hear old stuff in that,
- 6:42but then there's also kind of a new flavor as well of the times.
- 6:45So like yeah, where do you sort of new music?
- 6:49I I mean I'm not completely I think saying that all modern
- 6:54music is bad is silly because that's just not how it is.
- 6:57Yeah, there is some good morning bands.
- 7:01I don't listen to it too much. Like I said, this band called
- 7:04Temple, which are pretty sick, and Arctic Monkeys sometimes
- 7:12like mainly just when other people put it on.
- 7:14I think it's quite nice but and the other one is Jack
- 7:17store-bought. I really like drugstore but he's
- 7:20really cool. I like his use of this and I
- 7:23bought a mini synth because of jokes or, but I thought I could
- 7:27Do this, I can't do that. I cannot do what Jack said.
- 7:32Okay, well that's cool that you experiment in there and you
- 7:34know, like because I know you play guitar and you do singing
- 7:36and stuff. But biggest as a musician It's
- 7:38always important to try and Branch out and try different
- 7:41things because more often than not we do tend to be
- 7:44multi-instrument instrument assists.
- 7:47I know that I can play the drums a little bit.
- 7:48I've never owned a physical drum kit.
- 7:50I had an electric current that doesn't really count but you
- 7:53know, I can't, I can play. I think like you once you kind
- 7:57of Stan, the basics of music you can kind of do not know mean
- 8:00that there's that joke. If you can play guitar can play
- 8:02bass or hook as a controversial statement.
- 8:06It's true, it's true. Yeah, what's that?
- 8:10We put this one when my, when my first band did our first record,
- 8:14our basis didn't come prepared and we were all kind of annoyed
- 8:18at him and I remember sorry Ryan.
- 8:21Okay. But this is true and, you know,
- 8:22it happened, we basically, he kept messing up the bass parts.
- 8:27And the producer was there with and I was there for like,
- 8:30everything. I was obsessed with, you know,
- 8:33everything. I was always.
- 8:34There had been first in last out during recording sessions and
- 8:37that, and I remember this time, you turned the producer turned
- 8:40to me, and just said, listen, Christian.
- 8:42Can you just do the baseball? And I felt bad because, like the
- 8:46base is sitting right there, and it's his part, but it's like
- 8:50we'd been there. At least a couple of hours
- 8:54trying to do pretty straightforward part.
- 8:57And in this particular section, we did a think.
- 9:00It took me like two takes and then that was a is a bit
- 9:03embarrassing but no. But like I thought.
- 9:07Yeah. But base is a, you know, sir
- 9:12instrument in of itself and it takes a lot of skill to do and I
- 9:16think it depends how you play if you're just playing.
- 9:19You know basic notes and stuff then.
- 9:21Yeah it's pretty easy to transition from guitar to Bass.
- 9:23If you actually want to play the bass guitar properly and really
- 9:26contribute something to a record, then you do have to go
- 9:30away, learn how to play. And what I mean by that is
- 9:33things like you know slap bass and things like you know even
- 9:37just the difference between, how things sound playing fingerless
- 9:41versus playing with a with a pick and stuff like that.
- 9:43There's so many other factors but yeah, one of my pet peeves
- 9:47with people. I'm base is when, when like a
- 9:52basis, like learned how to play bass without a pick and then
- 9:55they completely, I like, oh, imagine playing bass for the
- 9:59pig. It's like in certain situations.
- 10:01It's better like completely degrading it because now you've
- 10:05learned more skillful ways plays so dumb.
- 10:09And I act like, I like the college I go to.
- 10:12When people say that, I just heard so much.
- 10:14My, oh my gosh, as a basis, you should know.
- 10:16That's not true, you know. But the bassist mm in my band
- 10:20was like that. And it was like, dude, let wee
- 10:24wee, there were so many times. We said to him, like listen,
- 10:27it's okay to use a pick sometimes like it's, we were
- 10:32metal band as well. So using a pick in a metal band
- 10:35is, it's kind of like it's pretty important, especially if
- 10:37you're paying like, the faster licks.
- 10:39It's like, just just use the pick.
- 10:41It's fine, like, doing a mean we're not, we're not, I don't
- 10:44know, we're not Slayer. We just some band in London.
- 10:48That's trying to It so that no one's going to be paying
- 10:50attention to if you're playing, but you know we were young, you
- 10:53know, whatever. Yeah.
- 10:55There is that sort of elitism in music and that silly cut.
- 10:59I think it's a musician's quarrel.
- 11:01I think that anyone who's not a musician, probably won't get it.
- 11:04But like it's this whole thing of trying to like almost one up
- 11:08other musicians and that his assets something.
- 11:10I bet you can relate to. Do you ever do like sound
- 11:13checks? Or yeah.
- 11:15Oh, not even necessarily a Sanyo.
- 11:16Do you do something to you or do you do?
- 11:19Like you'd be playing shows particular when you're when
- 11:22you're starting out and you don't really have many people
- 11:24there and normally the people in the audience are the other
- 11:26bands, right? And you get every now and again
- 11:29I got this quite a lot where people will be standing in the
- 11:32audience like this, just kind of like looking annoyed the whole
- 11:37time and you can tell they're just judging you that every 5
- 11:39Seconds, they'll be like, oh my gosh.
- 11:47I mean, I could like the only gigs I've really done is with
- 11:51Pereira and begins. We have done, which is like two
- 11:54of them have been like online gigs where we go to a place and
- 11:57they feel most and we do it live.
- 11:58What have you the other one? Oh my gosh mikorskis.
- 12:01Wait I have a sore throat. I'm sorry.
- 12:03The other one we did was I sat down gig and the other band was
- 12:09like sat on the sofa over there. But they all seen I think I
- 12:14think we all had like Mutual. Respect one another because for
- 12:18some reason, I mean like I guess I understand because of Corona,
- 12:22but the person who was like, organizing the gig we had like
- 12:27us who was like more Rocky then like 1975 kind of Indie band.
- 12:32Then a completely pop person. But like, come, I mean, Indian
- 12:37are that like, completely different and we're kind of,
- 12:40it's like, we wouldn't really have a place to judge each
- 12:44other, because we don't understand it.
- 12:45Well, Well, I used to dress that's plane in London, that
- 12:50promote promote is when they don't put the right sort of
- 12:53bands to go over that. I could, I think so many times
- 12:56when I turned up to a place and the band but there was those one
- 12:59gig I played where because I was like against playing Pub gigs.
- 13:04I was like, no we never play pubs.
- 13:06We're not Pub and we're metal band, we play venues but there
- 13:11was one thing, it was in our local area and it was like an
- 13:14all-day they called it a festival.
- 13:16It wasn't like, you know what I mean?
- 13:18Like when there's like I don't know 15 bands throughout the day
- 13:20and you come and do your slot. We had like a 7 p.m. slot and as
- 13:24I like as a one-off will do this because it's local fine, the
- 13:30band before us. It's not a band.
- 13:32It was a guy with a guitar doing, a jazz fusion
- 13:38experimental Jazz for like half an hour and it wasn't like fun.
- 13:44Like like, you know, maybe got some Pink Floyd Vibes.
- 13:46No, it was just straight-up boring as hell.
- 13:51Only a minor amount of the population would appreciate it.
- 13:56And then we come on, scary, hardcore, post-hardcore, kind of
- 14:00metal band, / thrash metal and suffice it to say the mood was
- 14:06not there. We horrified everyone in the
- 14:08building, everyone looks shocked.
- 14:10It look like Slayer had just come through and just killed
- 14:12everyone or something. It was quite terrifying.
- 14:15And then we We came off got a light kind of golf clap and then
- 14:20the next band comes on and they're like a pop band like,
- 14:25you know, like sort of Pop almost pop punk like you Mommy
- 14:29didn't love me. Everything's unfair, like just,
- 14:31I don't know. Whatever is it was such so weird
- 14:34and I found that all the time with so many promoters in London
- 14:37where they just don't care, they just put any old crap on
- 14:40together and be like, yeah, that works wherever is why you got
- 14:43guitar. They got guitars that works.
- 14:45Is that know, it doesn't. You need to think about setting
- 14:47the mood and that building build it up.
- 14:49So, if you did have a pop band on a metal band show, put them
- 14:52at the beginning and work your way up.
- 14:55Have the pop band, then have a sort of light rock outfit, then
- 14:58go metal, and then, you know what I mean?
- 15:00It's, yeah. Like, rockets know, especially
- 15:05like, with people, you have just come to see anyone, really.
- 15:10It's like Could have some kind of organization with things like
- 15:14that and I wouldn't really take much.
- 15:16It's just like actually doing some research into the band.
- 15:20Nursing would go best whatever. I just laid out there that takes
- 15:27five minutes. Yeah, you got a couple of bands
- 15:30and, you know, okay, well logically, how does this work?
- 15:32And you put them in order like, you know, me, because it's about
- 15:35Vibes, isn't it? It's like if you put on but I'll
- 15:38give you, I'll give you really good.
- 15:39Famous example. So I'm She probably heard about
- 15:42this, I think it was in 2007, maybe 2006.
- 15:46It was even monsters of rock or download Festival is very
- 15:49famously. My Chemical Romance played after
- 15:55Slayer. So you can imagine whole
- 15:58audience is full of very serious melt heads.
- 16:02Yeah. And, you know, very violent
- 16:04people ready for fights and then comes on this emo rock outfit.
- 16:09Now, Amazon has a Band. Yeah.
- 16:13But putting them on after Slayer, not a good move and
- 16:19inevitably, they got bottled so brutally.
- 16:23And it's not fair, it's not cool.
- 16:25But what did that, man? Is expect really in that
- 16:28situation. Yeah, I know.
- 16:31That's a bit. I mean, I'm not like, yeah, that
- 16:35I can imagine that being a also, being quite funny though.
- 16:38Like, I mean, it, It kind of isn't it isn't?
- 16:42I don't know. I've seen it with other bands.
- 16:44I remember seeing there was this, I don't know what they're
- 16:47called. Black Veil Brides.
- 16:48Is it some sort of? Yeah, it's some sort of light.
- 16:54They look like a glam metal band but they're kind of I don't know
- 16:58how to describe it. Really.
- 17:01I remember I had to take someone's son to go see them.
- 17:04It was like his first gig. So I'm here, I'm like, 21:22.
- 17:08I'm there with my then girlfriend and he's like, 14,
- 17:1115. We're taking him to his first
- 17:12show. It was weird, it was a wit but
- 17:14you know what they were. Okay, the the bomb was they put
- 17:17on a decent performance but I remember just thinking like this
- 17:21is very it's for a very small specific but there's a lot of
- 17:26music that comes through specially in the UK where its
- 17:28intended for very specific age demographic and it has its kind
- 17:31of couple of years and then you move on.
- 17:34So when I saw this band again years later at a festival,
- 17:38Again, same thing, you know, they were still doing the same
- 17:40music. They've done sort of 34 years
- 17:43before and again, had been booked after some heavy band of
- 17:47the might been Lamb of God or something, they come on, get
- 17:52bottled mercilessly, and they didn't take it.
- 17:55Well, the the singer just he could have been a professional
- 17:59about it, but I think he started like this in the audience and
- 18:01stuff, and it's like, listen, best thing you can do in that
- 18:05situation. It's not your fault that that's
- 18:06happening. It's not your fault just finish
- 18:10and get off the stage as quickly as possible damage control.
- 18:13Don't don't open it up and make it worse for yourself by then
- 18:18attacking your audience. That's that's gonna ignite it
- 18:21even further. And the chances of you getting
- 18:23at that, I mean luckily at festivals we don't have glass
- 18:26bottles anymore. Like, it's Plastics and stuff,
- 18:28that's one Saving Grace, but, you know, people find a way.
- 18:33Yeah. Anyway, moving it on.
- 18:35And I just want to focus a little bit more on the right.
- 18:37Retro stuff before we move on to your band and your music and
- 18:40everything. Cuz you did mention that This is
- 18:44kind of an obvious question, but I kind of want to just explore a
- 18:47bit more about your personality, you as a person, you're
- 18:50interested in stuff. So I kind of know the answer but
- 18:52I think it'd be interesting for our audience to hear.
- 18:55Why do you kind of tend to prefer the Aesthetics of music
- 18:59of that bygone eras in comparison to today?
- 19:02Like, what about it? Is more preferable in your
- 19:05opinion? I mean, I obviously I kind of
- 19:10think things sound better. I just like the organic nurse
- 19:14of, you know, you have nowadays, you have all this electronic
- 19:20things. Like, I don't know how to
- 19:23describe it, but like, if you look at things like early
- 19:26Fleetwood Mac, you lose a job just like guitar bass drums and
- 19:30nowadays like things like Coldplay and cooperating like
- 19:34Tag. But I kind of like the orphan
- 19:37like me. I don't know.
- 19:38I, I'm not dissing it at all. It's just like a preference.
- 19:41I like the authenticity of those instruments instruments and I
- 19:46think the electronic can be using really cool ways, like
- 19:49with scents and like the who were very experimental with
- 19:53things like that or like one of the first bands to be and I just
- 19:57think the bands like that, just did it all in a way that people
- 20:02can't really today, just Because of how things will record it.
- 20:06You can't get like guitar tones from like back then, unless you
- 20:10like spent a lot of money just because like how things were
- 20:14recorded, just what how things were played and just the
- 20:19atmosphere of everything was just a lot cooler than another
- 20:22question. I get a lot is do, what do I do?
- 20:25I think I was born in the wrong generation and the I don't think
- 20:28I was born in the wrong generation, because despite me
- 20:33loving that area there, There was still like problems.
- 20:36Yeah, but like kind of phobia and things like that.
- 20:38And I'm straight, but like still, I just wouldn't want to
- 20:41be the ground that, you know, I think this is the problem,
- 20:43people forget as well. I'd like here's a, here's a
- 20:45really good example. So the fact that we can easily
- 20:49consume the music in any way we want.
- 20:52I think about, if you were in the 60s, 70s, you can't.
- 20:56I don't think the portable Headset stuff was invented to
- 21:00even lower late, 70s, or early 80s, I think so.
- 21:06Yeah, it's record player or nothing, you know, I was like
- 21:10yesterday, like how I'm not, like imagine having to buy,
- 21:13like, spend a lot of money back then to have like a discography
- 21:16of a band. You like we count a tenner for
- 21:20everything a month. Think about this as well, right?
- 21:22Because I had a little bit of an experience with this in the
- 21:25early 2000s when I was discovering various, Hands
- 21:28right? Where you'd go into like a HMV
- 21:30and you'd buy albums based on the cover art, but back then you
- 21:34could still find that music online.
- 21:35So you could check it on my own before.
- 21:37You actually bought it back in obviously 76.
- 21:40These whenever all you had to go on was one or two things, either
- 21:45one a recommendation from a friend.
- 21:48You might, you might have heard something on the radio, but for
- 21:50stuff that was considered, back then, very experimental.
- 21:52Something like I said, Jimi Hendrix, right in the 60s.
- 21:56That would have been considered almost Underground until he
- 21:59really got mainstream. It was you know what I mean?
- 22:01Experiment or steps. You wouldn't have heard it on
- 22:02the radio. So the only way you would have
- 22:05been able to find out about Hendricks would have been
- 22:07through recommendation from a friend or by going into a record
- 22:10store and hopefully you've just got someone there who's clued up
- 22:14and knows about this stuff and recommend.
- 22:17Other than that you're just looking at records and and and
- 22:21seeing like oh that looks cool. Oh that doesn't look cool.
- 22:24You know me it's very tough to know and that's why Back then, I
- 22:29think, yeah, record. Our artwork was so important but
- 22:33these days it doesn't really matter but like that then kind
- 22:36of probably the most important thing really because that's the
- 22:39first thing you see in the record store, you know,
- 22:43interesting stuff. Be I agree.
- 22:46I agree with your sentiment on that.
- 22:47I think it's a lot easier to consume music and gain access to
- 22:51all the different things that we, that we like these days.
- 22:54And as you said, social issues a different, I mean, Back then
- 22:58there was a lot of misogyny as well.
- 23:00Yeah, music. And and there's some of that
- 23:03still exists today but not like anywhere near the same.
- 23:06Exact like I mean, another thing that I was like looking into,
- 23:10which was like quite shocked. I, I looked into this, like,
- 23:12ages ago, because my boyfriend's, father border up to
- 23:16me, I thought I was like, shocked.
- 23:17Like how rock stars would like sleep with underage girls and,
- 23:22like, call them? Yeah, I was like, oh my fucking
- 23:25like, So our school, I don't know if I'm not stealing a
- 23:29strap. That's fine.
- 23:30We against classes, Jimmy Page and like David Bowie like, had
- 23:36some like, do on them. I was kind of just shocking to
- 23:40like here, but like it was not, I don't think obviously it
- 23:46wasn't like a but it was more normalize them, which is just
- 23:48weird. Hmm, But yeah, like still then I
- 23:52don't think I excuses it at all because I don't I don't know how
- 23:55like look at someone so young thing.
- 23:58Yeah, you know, I'm not trying to defend them, but I do think
- 24:03particularly with someone like Bowie, if that would have
- 24:05happened, I think those girls wouldn't have looked as young as
- 24:10they as they actually were, but at the same time, I think you do
- 24:13have to have more sex. If you're in a position of
- 24:16authority, like a musician, I think a, you just, as a rule
- 24:21shouldn't have kind of contact with fans in Yahweh.
- 24:24Just just, just to be sensible. Yeah.
- 24:26And be Kind of do your research a bit.
- 24:30I'm not saying you have to go out and find someone's passport
- 24:32or whatever but like come on you like you can kind of put two and
- 24:36two together, you know like if you got someone rocking up at
- 24:40your show there with a couple of friends and they look kind of
- 24:42young to answers are there probably are under age, you know
- 24:45what I mean? Yeah, and I don't know.
- 24:46I think my eye for these things is pretty good.
- 24:48Like if I go to a show like that Black Veil Brides show that I
- 24:52mentioned earlier, right, you could tell the general age was
- 24:55all T, smaller young teenager. Well but I don't know maybe it
- 24:59maybe it was different then and some way.
- 25:02But yeah, bring it back to what we were talking about with the
- 25:04stress that lyrics is concerned. I've discovered that a lot and
- 25:07it's like I love me. Some Led Zeppelin but it's
- 25:10difficult sometimes to listen to some of it.
- 25:12Damn. I was even listening to an
- 25:13abbess on the other night. I think it was songs.
- 25:17Does your mother know and I was listening to the lyrics of that
- 25:19and I was like, This this is this is kind of questionable.
- 25:29Yeah. Yeah and like I don't think
- 25:33anything bad happen there but still it is kind of Testament to
- 25:38they were different times. Yeah and I'm glad we've kind of
- 25:42moved on from those times and we're getting we're getting my
- 25:46bit in a more positive direction.
- 25:48At least your people are more protected now.
- 25:50And you know, There's less of that fingers crossed.
- 25:55Yeah, this move it on. So what's the kind of community
- 26:00like for retro vintage stuff online?
- 26:02Obviously? Cuz I've seen a lot of people
- 26:03and Tick-Tock like yourself, we were into this stuff.
- 26:06But what's your experience of it?
- 26:07Are you active part of? It is a big Community.
- 26:10Tell us about that. I mean, I honestly I know that
- 26:12like some of my neutrals I don't ever I don't really talk to any
- 26:16of them like outside, ticked off at all, like I like we comment
- 26:21on Each other's post. What have you?
- 26:22But like it's it's kind of like just acknowledging each other
- 26:26exist. I think there is a community but
- 26:29I'm just kind of not quite around it too much.
- 26:33I'm sure there are like groups of people that are like friends
- 26:35online Etc but yeah I'm not really a part.
- 26:39I'm kind of just vibing I guess I do.
- 26:44I have some really cool mutual's on take dog but yeah, I don't
- 26:48really speak to any of them outside kick.
- 26:51I probably do like a couple but like not not like notably like
- 26:58every day, like solid friendship kind of thing is just I kind of
- 27:01like to be quite preserved, things like that.
- 27:05And that's I was like gonna collaborate with someone what,
- 27:08which I'd be completely open to what have I kind of don't really
- 27:12speak to that many people from take up in terms of like how you
- 27:18acquire a lot of the old vintage stuff that you get.
- 27:20Like, I Kind of sort of figure out where you would go.
- 27:23But that tell us about the sort of places that you tend to go to
- 27:25pick up your, your vintage bits and Bobs.
- 27:28There's this was, I found in like the Vintage side of a
- 27:31charity shop. There's like only seven critical
- 27:34but this one D for as the two, three places my leather jackets
- 27:37like that, on eBay. I love collecting leather
- 27:40jacket. My records I get from my local
- 27:44record shop because the person in there is so cool, it's so
- 27:47nice. Like I have vintage furniture,
- 27:56which I've got from Facebook Marketplace.
- 27:59Oh, anchor is from a child shop. Pretty much all of it is just
- 28:03want like your standard secondhand shop.
- 28:07Be just have to keep an eye out. Like I didn't just accumulate
- 28:11all this overnight. Like, right years.
- 28:14Yeah, looking around. Yeah, awesome, awesome.
- 28:19What kind of comments? Do you tend to hear quite
- 28:22regularly from people regarding your style and like, you know,
- 28:26just your interests and stuff. All the common things you tend
- 28:29to hear probably old you think a lot to you think you were born
- 28:33in the wrong generation, like one of the ones I get a lot is,
- 28:36oh, you're so quirky. It's like, okay, so, it's just
- 28:42how to reply to that because like, if you look into the word,
- 28:45quirky quirky, you're technically correct.
- 28:47But I hate how modern it's been used to be like No, you listen
- 28:52to the 97 file so I quite like that kind of thing.
- 28:55Just like I'm not trying to be anything other than just show.
- 28:58My interest is so annoying. Well I do obviously get loads of
- 29:03really wonderful. Oh I know what you mean.
- 29:06You mean like when people are like oh you like a poser?
- 29:10You trying to be like deliberately like yeah kind of
- 29:13like that kind of thing. This is all for sure.
- 29:19Like I have seven Has their entire single one.
- 29:22That's another one people ask if I play my guitar.
- 29:25There's like, no, I don't play my guitars.
- 29:28Like what? I don't understand that question
- 29:30at all. So it sounds like jealousy to me
- 29:31that I do understand to some extent.
- 29:34You know, when I was growing up, I was always in the alternative
- 29:36crowd, everything from emo seeing kids Metalhead, scale,
- 29:41like, all of that stuff. I was always part of that crowd
- 29:43and there I remember there was a lot of gatekeeping older people
- 29:46would be like, oh well, you can't be, you know, you're just
- 29:49doing this to you. It's I don't know.
- 29:52Get cloud or something. And it's like, no, I like this
- 29:55stuff. It took me ages to become part
- 29:57of that crowd. And then when I did become part
- 29:59of that crowd and get accepted, I realized that the rule
- 30:02douchebags and it was all just poser and stuff.
- 30:04And I was like, screw that. I'm not gonna be part of that
- 30:06crowd like I just like this stuff because I like it.
- 30:09Yeah, that's pretty much. And that's the thing is the
- 30:11funny thing like I never stopped liking these things, whereas
- 30:14those people sort of grew out of it, mostly at the pose of people
- 30:19actual poses like they grew out of it and You know, now they
- 30:21work in a bank or whatever, and it's like, oh, I guess that was
- 30:26just a phase, huh? It's not a favor.
- 30:30That's like that's also another thing.
- 30:34I mean, yeah, I think I'll always be listening to music.
- 30:52Your grandfather. Did you say my dad, you got a
- 30:56bunch of stuff. He never stopped listening to it
- 30:59and now he like listens to them still like fashion dolls, entity
- 31:04them, quite a lot. I honestly don't like them that
- 31:06much, but I went to see them with him down load testing
- 31:11which, which download Two years ago, it was like not much at
- 31:18all. My gosh, with Def, Leppard's
- 31:23marshmallows, Kennedy and Whitesnake and I love the White
- 31:25Snake so much. Can't know what his name is, the
- 31:29lead singer for my state. He was also in Deep Purple
- 31:31because me and my dad were wearing like matching t-shirts
- 31:34nose like and there weren't many people, my age.
- 31:38I remember like like jumping up and like waving at him.
- 31:40Anyway, back and it's like, One moment I'm waxing. / with Myles.
- 31:46Kennedy is this is very good stuff.
- 31:49I think it's entertaining. I really like seeing them.
- 31:52I just want to listen to them. Yeah, fair enough.
- 31:55Fair enough. Okay, let's talk about your band
- 31:59so you are the lead singer and Rhythm guitarist for a band
- 32:01called Barrera. It's described as an alternative
- 32:04rock band that takes inspiration from 60s and 70s bands.
- 32:08How did this band start come about and what are your main
- 32:12goal? You hope to achieve with this
- 32:13burned. So it started off me and Tom
- 32:19well, we we had like a similar friendship group and we get set
- 32:23assignments from college to do projects together.
- 32:26That's all the other people in the group and already paired up
- 32:29with someone and Thomas like, Joanna work together and I was
- 32:32like, all right, then I honestly was hoping I'd work with James
- 32:36for it. Who isn't another member from
- 32:38where? Ironically, because James is my
- 32:40best friends and And he picked Ross, one of the other boroughs
- 32:45Maze and so I was like, okay, I'll work with you whatever.
- 32:49And I'm not going to life and Tom really annoying because he
- 32:52was like he did like some good music, but he also really like
- 32:55Coldplay. And I despise Coldplay with all
- 32:57my being. I don't look back up a second.
- 33:00What, why do you hate Coldplay? So much?
- 33:02I find them cringey. And I swear, for one of my quads
- 33:08project, I have to sing the song yellow.
- 33:09And I sang it so many times and every time, it's like, A piece
- 33:13of my dignity gets ripped away that I can punishment for your
- 33:18college. They're just didn't know that.
- 33:19Like, we had this project over lockdown, which was like we had
- 33:24to write and produce a song and we completely redid Coldplay.
- 33:28Like every not every sort of the song Yellow, we completely
- 33:32redid. It made a recording of like us
- 33:34playing it and it sounds pretty big.
- 33:36But um, I was going to do a song called the foxes Sick by Bandai,
- 33:40like, all the Savage Resurrection, And I kind of
- 33:44couldn't be bothered. So I was like just do yellows,
- 33:47whatever. Then they said, oh yeah, you
- 33:48have to play them down. That's like, I'm so bummed out
- 33:50because I've got absolutely love to play the song part of the
- 33:53Sig. But yeah, I'm stuck doing that
- 33:57but it's okay. I also had to perform it in
- 33:59front of people at the end of the year or something, which is
- 34:01worse. So it's always tricky to do in
- 34:03front of your peers. I used to hate that school and
- 34:06college just It was the worst and I've performed in front of
- 34:10hundreds of people plenty of times and not felt a thing very
- 34:13normal easy. But in front of people, I know
- 34:15that's the worst. Yeah.
- 34:19But yeah, so me and Tom work together to write two songs are
- 34:23basically, the plan was. I wrote Because I was on the
- 34:27songwriting course of this time. I do vocals.
- 34:28Now, I'm just doing prove vocal, but at the time we were like,
- 34:34write, I write the Tucson sent Tom, like, pretty much helps
- 34:37could You sound like a battle the elements to it, and the
- 34:40first song we wrote was our first ever somewhere released.
- 34:44Like we actually the first song I ever wrote with Tom, we
- 34:47released us around because then James and platforms are German
- 34:51basis. They came along and added their
- 34:53elements to it and that was can't help, which is are still
- 34:58almost still our most played song on Spotify.
- 35:04And then the other song was this really disgusting.
- 35:07Sticks on. And I remember Tom boarded up a
- 35:09couple months ago saying I want you back on that.
- 35:11Remember that is really cool as like, Thomas Riley, chronic
- 35:14absolutely not. I hated it so much and I
- 35:18remember like kid it was like this Coldplay really don't
- 35:20remember trying to make it more psychedelic you because I was
- 35:24like a massive psycho. The time I love all that stuff I
- 35:28still do but not as much now but so I try to make these loads for
- 35:33really cool and they just ended up sounding cringy like I tried.
- 35:37Way too high. And I was just like, no,
- 35:39whiskey, absolutely forgetting that song.
- 35:41Never so, yeah. And then, I think the goals for
- 35:47the band is basically just make a living from it.
- 35:50Be able to like spread the music.
- 35:51I think that's any and scholarly yeah, your first album is
- 35:57actually out right now, it's called abnormal Beginnings.
- 36:00It was released in December 2020.
- 36:01Told us about the sounds of that particular album.
- 36:04Any particular lyrical themes that you explore Lord now's your
- 36:08time to talk about the album album.
- 36:12I mean on I think because I'm going back but like I think
- 36:19since we're working on new stuff now I think we all kind of
- 36:24agreed that we could have kind of now we could do a lot better.
- 36:29Like we're working on music now and there's like I don't know if
- 36:32I'm a stylist but there's like a couple things to come.
- 36:34Well I mean actually we're about there is going to be stuff to
- 36:36come. And like that.
- 36:41I think maybe like five songs out of the nine.
- 36:44I'm really like the rest of them.
- 36:46I'm just like. Yeah, but yeah, the sounds
- 36:51basically. We were since we're it was over
- 36:54lockdown. We all like wrote stuff and then
- 36:56over the zoom we tried to add and layer things together and it
- 37:01was all a bit confusing and sliding all over the place.
- 37:03That's why it's so like mix yonward because like, you know,
- 37:07this Is the first time that we're kind of working on such a
- 37:11big project here that, I mean, it's changed now because we
- 37:14encourage we work together, things like that, like, every
- 37:16sounded really cool. Like, I'm a lot, like not saying
- 37:20the grading them after school, but I'm like a lot happier with
- 37:22this stuff we're working on. So, would it, would it be fair
- 37:25to say? It's urgent, integer, but
- 37:27obviously you mentioned there that you were having to do a lot
- 37:30of writing via zoom and stuff. It sounds like obviously that's
- 37:33quite tricky to do and now you're physically together.
- 37:35So it's would you say it's just Made it a lot easier to be
- 37:39physically together versus like doing online and stuff to go.
- 37:42For sure. It was absolutely horrified.
- 37:44There's this laughter can't help you.
- 37:46Tried writing this song called War song.
- 37:49It's just a nickname and there's little sneak peek of it on on
- 37:56our Instagram. If you saw it online but like it
- 37:58was so overworked. There was like I think on the
- 38:02Google drivers it's like version 28 or something.
- 38:07It was like the first First time, we're like probably
- 38:09probably working over there and completely scrapped it, I mean,
- 38:13it's completed song. It just is not good, it's
- 38:17overworked, it's just too much going on.
- 38:19And the second son we did was all behind.
- 38:23That was a song. I wrote in like, 10 minutes
- 38:25because I forgot, Tom asked me to write a song and I was like,
- 38:28and I was like, shit. I need to write a song, so it's
- 38:30wrote that and then that's one of my favorites that we've done,
- 38:35and yeah. Yeah, that one was a little
- 38:40better. How would you describe Barrera
- 38:42sound 21? I think now, because, I mean, I
- 38:49feel bad because a lot of people haven't heard like what we're
- 38:51hearing now. It's kind of, I would say it's
- 38:53kind of like an improved version of the songs, like, all
- 38:57sincerity or behind are more like, I can't remember, like,
- 39:01all the limbs, but something happened.
- 39:02Sorry, like are more rough surface, like a more defined and
- 39:07I guess develop. I should've died.
- 39:08Sounds a lot cleaner and more professional.
- 39:12I mean, I don't think that I'm sounded too bad, but Tom's
- 39:17improved his production a lot in it.
- 39:19He said that it sounds really cool but I would probably
- 39:23describe us as like just because it's such a broad thing to call
- 39:28us old rock. Like it can mean so many things.
- 39:31So I like to say, oh look, just because it gives us room to move
- 39:35around like we have some fast songs and likes.
- 39:38Slower like acoustic piano, very kind of stereo Tevin, kind of
- 39:41vibe something that we're working on.
- 39:43I mean I don't think the rest of the band would describe like
- 39:46that but I would yeah. Like I just like being able to
- 39:51have that kind of space to play around not just being like Oh
- 39:54yeah where this Indie band that does sound like music like this
- 39:59body but it's just so restricting.
- 40:00Old lockers broaden perfect ideas.
- 40:05Yeah, don't undersell yourself for sure.
- 40:09Is there any particular artists that you'd say, you kind of
- 40:11sound similar to like, I know that can be annoying.
- 40:13Sometimes as a question Mosel, I probably I think, I don't know,
- 40:21similar to, I know we take a people know that we take
- 40:23inspiration from Pink, Floyd answers, all of our like part
- 40:26for my drama, he loves total dominance, Toto, which is good.
- 40:30They have an amazing summer but we all like, Pink, Floyd and you
- 40:35can hear that in like little things like me, Maybe some of
- 40:38the chords I use like certain bits and solos like base and
- 40:43maybe not base. James's strange about base.
- 40:47It's like just yeah Pink Floyd kind of not really.
- 40:52I don't really know what we sound like.
- 40:54Honestly still figuring it out. I got it.
- 40:56Yeah yes still figuring out. We kind of just want to sound
- 41:00unique I guess because there's so many bands, you don't want
- 41:03to, we don't want to. You can never have like another
- 41:07Pink Floyd as well. Obviously.
- 41:08So, you know, it's just trying to work around that, I'll be a
- 41:14moment when it clicks. Like, I remember when my first
- 41:16band we were to give a about three years and even when we
- 41:22recorded our only EP, it was like a six-song EP.
- 41:26After that, that kind of in our third year of being together, a
- 41:30third and final year, that was the year.
- 41:32We actually started writing music that.
- 41:34Yeah, I would say would like if we continued, that would have
- 41:37been the Section. So we started as kind of a
- 41:40contemporary thrash metal band and then it became
- 41:44post-hardcore. I know, none of us planned for
- 41:46that. It just kind of made sense.
- 41:47That was so that was a lot of what our lead guitarist
- 41:49resisting to. I had some interest in it it
- 41:53worked with what we were trying to achieve.
- 41:55It just kind of naturally went that way.
- 41:57So my point to you is I think that they'll be a moment.
- 42:00It'll be maybe a particular song maybe a particular record you
- 42:03right and you'll be like this is it this is our sound like every
- 42:06record is obviously going to sound different.
- 42:08Friend. But there will always be that
- 42:10kind of light unique thread that kind of Link's it all.
- 42:13And that's the brera sound kind of thing.
- 42:17You know, I see what you mean. It'll happen.
- 42:20It'll be a fun moment of epiphany is wake up, on mine, in
- 42:24your life, sit, he's waiting. For, is there any story behind
- 42:32the band name? Oh yeah.
- 42:34It's really lame. Okay, it's okay, if we get one,
- 42:38Like naturally, we get also quite.
- 42:39So, I'm going to move my mic, this.
- 42:41Have it balanced on my glass because my microfiber and yeah,
- 42:45basically. So after me and Tom worked on,
- 42:48can't help her. Like, oh, we should release this
- 42:51and it was, it was like, not, we hadn't worked, so probably
- 42:55because it was like, a really shitty version of can't help but
- 42:58hadn't had plans drums, and Hannah James is, because they
- 43:01weren't really a part of the band.
- 43:05And we're all working station. And we said to James because
- 43:09James was in another band of the time and he was like, we're
- 43:12like, oh, you wanna play some bass for us?
- 43:14He was like, yeah, go on, you know, might as well.
- 43:16And now he's probably one of the most involved people in the band
- 43:19has some writing. I think we all are now.
- 43:22I think it was mainly me at the start, but I think the boys have
- 43:26a bit more confident. With showing things will have,
- 43:28you know? But yeah.
- 43:31So we asked James and we asked plan.
- 43:32We're like, right, if we are And we need to make an Instagram
- 43:36account. We, we we feel.
- 43:38This is such a great idea until we realize we don't even have a
- 43:41band name. So, real, like the god, that we
- 43:47need to, we need to make this. So I made a, I was like, I came
- 43:53up with like, five random words, literally just random words,
- 43:58like thought sounded cool. Yeah, I'm not like surprisingly.
- 44:03Four out of those five were already bands.
- 44:06Like what about big bands? Like tool is a perfect example
- 44:12but how did they distinct? Let's cool our band Tool.
- 44:16Yeah I like that. Yeah that's hilarious.
- 44:19Base is a cool name but he's literally just like I've had so
- 44:23many stupid names like that before over the years like where
- 44:26it says you just one word. Ya know what this is like Yeah,
- 44:35yes, ever, like forever is I guess, and then I made, I made a
- 44:40tick, tock me, and I'll go follow us.
- 44:42And I remember like, in like a month, we got 1,000 followers
- 44:48and we were like, oh, this is so cool.
- 44:49We should use take up more. That's kind of where the tick
- 44:52tock thinking from us, like, I made a tick tock on my personal
- 44:54promoting and I was like this actually works.
- 44:57So yeah, we continue to do. So I need to be posting more
- 45:00about it than I haven't since we've Been busy writing.
- 45:04I haven't been promoting legislation and it kind of
- 45:07shows. So, but just just ask again like
- 45:10so that the name actually came as a kind of result of just mix
- 45:14in a bunch of different words and it was like, right.
- 45:15Like literally just came out with a random word.
- 45:18I thought was gibberish but apparently means barrier in
- 45:21Spanish. I don't know barrier.
- 45:23Yeah, looking at like, you know, like, you know, like how in
- 45:26school English teachers are like our own this part of show
- 45:29experiments by the planet reflects?
- 45:31Yeah, people are gonna like when I Vote Sun's Rays.
- 45:34Think people are going to do that in the future or something
- 45:37so when our it means it means barrier, that's deep.
- 45:39That's like represents that the barriers that they're facing and
- 45:43societies that know. We just we were just randomly
- 45:47like for long. Yeah.
- 45:52Cool. Okay.
- 45:54Yeah. You touched on it a little bit
- 45:56in that speech there but I want to just explore.
- 45:58It's a bit more. What is the actual band Dynamic?
- 46:00Like as far as like, is there like a particularly Leader.
- 46:04Or how does it? How does that kind of work with
- 46:07you guys? And I mean, I do not know.
- 46:11I think people kind of assume that I am like, in control of
- 46:14certain things. No, I do social media.
- 46:18I think guitarist Tom, he kind of like managers Us in the sense
- 46:25of like, making sure we're all doing, what we need to be doing
- 46:27because you kind of need someone to do that.
- 46:30And yeah, that's how I describe it.
- 46:32It's not really. Is not really someone in control
- 46:35but like Tom is always just making sure that we're doing
- 46:39what we need to be doing. Okay.
- 46:41And the songwriting process took us through like how you tend to
- 46:45write a song? Like it is it is it yourself or
- 46:48do you sort of come together as a band and jam it out just a
- 46:50little bit about that. So we all start off with writing
- 46:54songs individually and then we go and generally are jamming out
- 46:58for the like I start. I start off with cool chords.
- 47:02I think it's Uncle. And then like try layering some
- 47:06stuff up and then hand it over the band to add the spice to it
- 47:13just indeed. Okay, good stuff, good stuff.
- 47:18Let's, let's move it on to tick tock so you have a fuge
- 47:23following on Tick. Tock last count.
- 47:26It was 100 over, 100 1000. I'm sure it's actually grown
- 47:30since then but ya know. How many how many you one now?
- 47:39You got two accounts as well or three posted.
- 47:43Like it works for a little bit then I just I've been focusing
- 47:46on music more than promoting. I need to snap out of that bit
- 47:50but yeah, I'm on 175,000 blimey. So I did my initial research on
- 47:56you. Let me see a month or so ago and
- 48:00that's that's gone up like for you. 5,000.
- 48:04In that time, I did not really. Yeah, right battling.
- 48:08I didn't know. I'm not really do aware of that.
- 48:11There you go. There you go.
- 48:13I mean, it makes sense, you know, we discussed earlier with
- 48:16your unique interests and personal style and all that.
- 48:20So it makes sense in that it with regards to that.
- 48:25But at what moment did it kind of like start skyrocketing like
- 48:30when did it kind of just go? Whoop.
- 48:33Um, probably over lockdown. I like I have been doing take to
- 48:38perform like three years now. Just making some confused.
- 48:42And then like over the lock down the first lap down, I like start
- 48:44making like retro Style videos and everyone was like that's
- 48:47pretty snazzy. That's when it kind of did what
- 48:51and then like I don't think many people know this like probably
- 48:55During about like the second look down I took a bit of a
- 48:57break because I kind of I kind of wasn't into it as much and I
- 49:03was also living with my boyfriend over that so I
- 49:06couldn't really make any cool whatever.
- 49:09I mean because I mean the main attraction is my most of the
- 49:13time. But yeah.
- 49:16So I and then I like got back into it and I remember like I
- 49:20like spent a lot of time like trying to like bring it back
- 49:24because like normally would Tick Tock you gonna break, and that's
- 49:27it. No one cares anymore.
- 49:29But at that point I had 97,000 and then I started making videos
- 49:34again. One of them blew up which took
- 49:36me over to 100K and then then I just kept going.
- 49:41Now, it's back. I've something like, I know
- 49:44everyone always likes the term Shadow band.
- 49:48I've never experienced anything like that, really?
- 49:51I think, and I Everyone likes to Shadow Bible.
- 49:56Honestly, what I think it is is just interaction drops.
- 50:00Yeah, naturally like, you know, I don't think Tick-Tock I'm
- 50:04going to individually go out and Shadow Badness.
- 50:06Funny people, I think, what happens, more likely, this is
- 50:10what I've experienced as well. Your videos get randomly pushed
- 50:14like, what I've noticed with mine is that when I first posted
- 50:17videos, they get nothing for like 7 hours and then right in
- 50:23the evening time, boom. Randomly start getting views and
- 50:27sometimes that will happen like two weeks later after they've
- 50:29been pushed as well, initially. Yeah, I think the prime time for
- 50:34web, people are active in the US for us.
- 50:37In the UK is 10:00 is 10, 11 ish, when people who have start
- 50:43looking to, like I'll post a video and it'll get like, I
- 50:45don't know, seven thousand years from like my UK audience.
- 50:49And then, I wake up and it has like, 14k.
- 50:52Yeah, yes. Just one like people.
- 50:55U.s. looking and that's the thing that happens on every
- 50:57platform. I've been doing this with
- 50:58YouTube shorts and it's the exact same thing.
- 51:01Always happens. Even in time just randomly and
- 51:06it's gonna, it's really cool but it's like very telling.
- 51:09I think it's it's very split like most of the people that
- 51:12dropped by my lives and stuff our UK audience, you do get a
- 51:16lot of an international audience but typically that's most where
- 51:19most people are from. But as you said I don't those
- 51:21views that I think the majority of them are coming unless it's
- 51:24something. Very specific to the UK in some
- 51:27shape or form, then it's, yeah, yeah, I agree with you.
- 51:32I don't think that shadow band thing is legit, then there's so
- 51:35many people have experienced it. Like, I just, and the same.
- 51:39Remember, I know I remember when people like saying, oh, I know
- 51:46that you've used to drop when you do the Creative fun because
- 51:49it's like written in there, but I remember it was like,
- 51:51happening to like everyone was saying, oh my Use a completely
- 51:56gone down and the pump. The reason for that was because
- 51:59when they opened the Creator fund, encouraged people to
- 52:03create content so much more. Those overfunded like you,
- 52:06there's too much content compared to like my videos when
- 52:09I wasn't in the created one, like, for a, maybe a month, they
- 52:13weren't getting is bigger reach as they would normally, it's
- 52:16literally just because there wasn't like enough content, go
- 52:20to them to post that everyone, it's just like that's and it's
- 52:24such a logical. Cool answers.
- 52:25Well, but that makes so much sense.
- 52:27But people are all jumping to these conspiracies.
- 52:30Like it's just how social like especially technologists, how it
- 52:34works? Yes.
- 52:35How it's going to work. Yeah.
- 52:37And people need to see the bigger picture as well right
- 52:39now. For instance, you're trying to
- 52:41leverage it to create a following for your band.
- 52:44You know, that you got plans outside of it, you're not just
- 52:46like focused on this one thing. Same for me, I've got a YouTube
- 52:49channel. I've got music acting all these
- 52:52different exploits outside of what I do.
- 52:55Don't always know that. They just think our, he's just
- 52:57messing around on Tick-Tock or whatever, but no, I have a plan.
- 53:00And I'm building a brand, have a website, blah, blah, blah, blah,
- 53:02blah, right? And that's the way you got to
- 53:04look at these things long-term to really use it in an effective
- 53:07manner. A lot of the time when people
- 53:09get big on one of these platforms, they don't know what
- 53:11to do with it afterwards, you know.
- 53:13And it's like you got to start thinking about building that
- 53:16brand that's the most important thing I think, you know, I
- 53:19agree. So moving it forward, this is
- 53:24interesting. Question.
- 53:26I was off my guests. This What's the biggest life
- 53:30lesson that you've learned so far?
- 53:35I don't know, this is going to sound like really emo Neji, but
- 53:39I remember saying my boyfriend told me his have zero standards
- 53:43for everyone. So then you'll never disappoint
- 53:45never disappointed and it makes sense.
- 53:49It really makes sense. Yeah, I think that's a good one
- 53:55to have. Despite like I don't have like
- 53:57people are people and take took assume.
- 54:00I have lots of friends. I really don't.
- 54:02Like I don't have like I don't know.
- 54:05This, this may be like, surprising.
- 54:06I don't have like a female, like, best friend kind of thing.
- 54:10I have friends, who are female, but I don't hang out with them.
- 54:13The only people I really hang out with the band and I'd
- 54:18actually no, I do have like, I have a friend that is catching
- 54:22up with the way to go to school with recently, but yeah, no, I'm
- 54:26mainly just hang out with band. I don't really talk to many
- 54:29people just also because I'm quite socially awkward.
- 54:32Yeah, honestly. That's People people.
- 54:35So message me being like, how do I be confident?
- 54:37I'm like, I don't know. Yeah asking me this a move many
- 54:41people assume that I'm really extroverted no on the contrary,
- 54:45I never start conversations. You never see me.
- 54:47Starting the conversation and less.
- 54:48I'm very comfortable with the person.
- 54:51I'm very comfortable being alone.
- 54:53I'm very I like that very quiet, but I think it's different,
- 54:57isn't it? When you're talking to a camera
- 54:59when you're doing stuff online and I can be confident in what
- 55:03they call, Like an Omniverse on both?
- 55:06Yeah, I I steer more towards introvert and I think that
- 55:11confidence is relative. I think it depends on the
- 55:13company or with, you know, really, but you know that
- 55:18there's nothing wrong with being quiet and being more
- 55:20introverted. I think that's that's always
- 55:22been Implied as being like, a sort of a weakness and I think
- 55:26that's, that's wrong. That's not true.
- 55:28I think it's just different taste.
- 55:29Some people are more, you know, they prefer being loud and
- 55:32talking to lots of people other people enjoy being quiet and
- 55:35alone and I think that you just have to embrace both sides and
- 55:39you know try and understand people have a better.
- 55:43Yeah, I see. All right.
- 55:46Well listen it's been a fantastic interview.
- 55:49So thank you very much for the great idea.
- 55:53Got one final question. Do you have any upcoming
- 55:57projects or final thoughts that you'd like to share with us?
- 56:02I VI. I mean I'd like and I really
- 56:04have many upcoming projects other than working on music with
- 56:07bad but I think the one thing I know, it's really cheesy but
- 56:12like the one thing I would say to people is, even though it,
- 56:15like doesn't quite look into each other's eyes.
- 56:16And like, I always say to people, to just be themselves,
- 56:19even if you get called, also, again, like a poser of sad
- 56:26people. I agree.
- 56:28Yeah, you, you know who you are. I miss the most Important thing
- 56:32and like, you know, the right people work knowledge that you
- 56:35know I'm sure I'm sure you get a lot of this as well.
- 56:38I got a lot of hate online. Yeah, yeah.
- 56:42I get mainly from like when I like made a video, I make videos
- 56:48of me like playing guitar and there's always these really
- 56:50annoying ND, boys. I like you should use this tone
- 56:54on Bali but I'm like, I just plugged it into my guitar.
- 56:56I, if I wanted to, I could spend like 15 minutes making my guitar
- 57:01time, really. Good and I'm not incompetent.
- 57:03I know that one of my like when if I go Soviet start like a
- 57:08video and they're like, oh, you need to get new strings, I know
- 57:11I'm just broke. Okay, I know I need to get new
- 57:15strings it's like yeah I think it's just music can be really
- 57:20challenging pulled. It filled with Georgie it's just
- 57:22how that's just life. There's always going to be
- 57:24someone being pants as I like to say.
- 57:30It's just like I even like I'm in by made this, I think you
- 57:34might've seen. I made a video a couple days ago
- 57:37which was like responding to this woman.
- 57:38That was like, oh, I'll bet he'll women is disgusting and
- 57:41like by blah and like when I made that video I only cared
- 57:45about it for a solid, ten minutes.
- 57:46And I was like a I made a funny. I thought the video was quite
- 57:50funny. People were taking it way too
- 57:51seriously. Like I don't actually care about
- 57:54her opinion that much at all. Like I just don't like it when
- 57:57people like like body saying other people.
- 58:01Essays mad. It's not like I did a video the
- 58:04other day where basically, I didn't receive this Burger, King
- 58:08I ordered on my birthday, right? And yeah, I was a bit pissed at
- 58:12the time, but then I was just like whatever.
- 58:14But, like, literally people went crazy and my comments and then
- 58:19that they're like, you know, there was like full-on argument.
- 58:22So at the, some I'm above some girl, said, old first world
- 58:25problems or something. And she's trying to be like
- 58:26edgy, and then she just got tapped mercilessly by people.
- 58:30It is like, it's like that's just like Just taking the piss
- 58:32better than as in like. Yeah, it kind of is but it's
- 58:36like, you know, you still allowed to like, show you.
- 58:39You can complain. Yeah.
- 58:40Like it sucked for me because you know, I didn't have dinner
- 58:42that night. I just had to have some snack or
- 58:45something but it wasn't the end of the world.
- 58:46Yeah. No.
- 58:48But yeah, it's funny how people think that like your you really
- 58:51care? Like you said like your movies
- 58:53since that night. I don't care.
- 58:54I don't think about this after I posted it on just like, move on
- 58:57to the next thing. Yeah, it's like like with the
- 58:59video when I was like calling that girl.
- 59:01A pygmy. The only reason I called her
- 59:02pick me is because she also made loads of videos.
- 59:04I stalked her on a page. She also made loads of videos
- 59:07about liking political boys. That's why I said their mail,
- 59:10validation thing and because I know also because it's funny, I
- 59:14wasn't being that seriously. I remember people automatically
- 59:18assumed that because I made that video, I don't shave my armpit,
- 59:22which I do. Like the whole point of it was,
- 59:25I don't like people judging like, you know, body shaming.
- 59:29Like I'd never even said that I did anything.
- 59:31I was just the whole video is like just let people live like,
- 59:35who care is honestly, who cares? You know, it's just what it's a
- 59:40weird world that people people having full on debates about
- 59:43armpit her. And I'm like, people are dying.
- 59:46But, you know, this is this is the one I just which I mean it's
- 59:50that is completely hypocritical of me because I did make the
- 59:52video in the air at the end of the day.
- 59:54But like, I me being the massive hypocrite.
- 59:57I am. I just decided I don't care
- 59:58about it after two days. And I also I was like, Saying
- 1:00:02else. Like, I was actually getting a
- 1:00:04lot of hate because it's Apple. It's technically a political
- 1:00:06view even though I don't really have many political viewed, and
- 1:00:10I would turn the comments of but I completely agree with like
- 1:00:12freedom of speech. Yeah.
- 1:00:14So people are allowed to have those debates.
- 1:00:16I don't care, you know. But yeah, my little standpoint.
- 1:00:22I agree with you. Yeah, just want to say again a
- 1:00:26massive, thank you very much on the show.
