- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with I Heart Radio. Look, it's been a minute at
- 0:13Speaker 1: the thumb this way, like, I don't believe I can
- 0:15Speaker 1: have a bad day. To kick it up in card
- 0:21Speaker 1: you're from fifty eight the Texas catch the bullet blanket
- 0:26Speaker 1: Chiff Messing for the Zoo Texas. He touched co matters well,
- 0:32Speaker 1: Lots puts the same top top but nineteen seconds to
- 0:37Speaker 1: playing sixty four yards to win the game. Kick it
- 0:41Speaker 1: up in his block Now it's over. Ex fiercing on
- 0:44Speaker 1: for the extra point blocks block of turn of offense
- 0:49Speaker 1: from turning on yards away. We missed it badly, plos Well,
- 0:54Speaker 1: oh god, what is happening here? He gets another chance,
- 0:59Speaker 1: that's out winner. Yeah, I was entertained, were you? I
- 1:11Speaker 1: was entertained as wild a thirty or forty minutes to
- 1:15Speaker 1: end the early games yesterday and then a great set
- 1:19Speaker 1: of games in the four o'clock window, and plus Tom
- 1:22Speaker 1: Brady and Dak Prescott in the late game. Welcome to
- 1:25Speaker 1: a Monday Week one edition of NFL Now on NFL Network.
- 1:29Speaker 1: My name is Andrew Siciliano. This right here is Steve White.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Are you ready to overreact. I am remember it's week one.
- 1:36Speaker 1: The winners aren't as good as you think. The losers
- 1:38Speaker 1: aren't as bad as you think. In those two teams
- 1:39Speaker 1: that tied, well they tied, they tied. Love me Smith,
- 1:42Speaker 1: what are you doing? Put on the football? In the
- 1:44Speaker 1: forty nine yard Life. Mike McDaniels said it last week
- 1:47Speaker 1: about Week one. Either they're going to crown you or
- 1:51Speaker 1: they're gonna say you suck. Either way, you have week two.
- 1:56Speaker 1: The Cowboys half Week two, however, and here's our top
- 1:58Speaker 1: story without Dak Prescott if you missed it. In a
- 2:03Speaker 1: game that was a defensive struggle late Sunday evening, Dak
- 2:07Speaker 1: Prescott left in the fourth quarter with what the Cowboys
- 2:10Speaker 1: described after the game was an injury to his right hand,
- 2:14Speaker 1: his throwing hand. At Dak Prescott needs surgery. He is
- 2:19Speaker 1: going to be out a while. The question is how long?
- 2:24Speaker 1: What do we know? What do they do now? It
- 2:27Speaker 1: went from a disappointing Cowboys Week one performance too late
- 2:31Speaker 1: in the game, Oh they're in a bad spot. Ian Rappabore,
- 2:36Speaker 1: Tom Pella, Sero, Jane Slater, Ian start with you. Surgery today?
- 2:39Speaker 1: The details? Yeah, of all the bad things this game
- 2:43Speaker 1: had basically all of them for the Dallas Cowboys. Let's start,
- 2:46Speaker 1: of course, with the Dak Prescott injury. Going to have
- 2:49Speaker 1: surgery to stabilize that fracture in his thumb, A fracture
- 2:52Speaker 1: at the base of his thumb, relatively clean fracture, which
- 2:56Speaker 1: is good. Complicated would be worse. Hopefully, maybe this will
- 2:59Speaker 1: quicken the return for Dak Prescott. As far as some
- 3:03Speaker 1: of the details, he's gonna have a sure drew from
- 3:05Speaker 1: Dr Thomas Diliberti at the Texas Hand and Arms Center,
- 3:09Speaker 1: one of the local experts there for the Dallas Cowboys
- 3:12Speaker 1: and in the area he has been meeting and consulting.
- 3:16Speaker 1: This was the surgeon that they chose. I'm gonna have surgery.
- 3:19Speaker 1: The plan is today for Dak Prescott, and at that
- 3:22Speaker 1: point guys come up with a plan. As far as
- 3:25Speaker 1: the timetable, we'll see if DC is able to get
- 3:28Speaker 1: back before the end of October. Seems to be a
- 3:30Speaker 1: little bit of a stretch. Now we'll see after surgery. Well,
- 3:33Speaker 1: I was at the game and let me walk you
- 3:35Speaker 1: through with the post. Felt like Jerry Jones typically wait
- 3:38Speaker 1: till the end. He walked the locker room the players
- 3:40Speaker 1: that typically come in front of us. We only saw
- 3:42Speaker 1: Ezekiel Elliott and Ceedee Lamb. The rest of the guys
- 3:45Speaker 1: went in through the back door, and once we were
- 3:47Speaker 1: able to talk to Jerry, I think he caught all
- 3:49Speaker 1: of us off guard when he told us that Dac
- 3:51Speaker 1: was going to need surgery for this hand. And when
- 3:53Speaker 1: we walked into the locker room, we had Ceedee Lamb
- 3:56Speaker 1: there and I informed CD of the prognosis and he
- 3:59Speaker 1: was shocked. He said, we've got to do better. And
- 4:02Speaker 1: you know, essentially Cooper Rush is the guy. They've got
- 4:04Speaker 1: to have him step up. And you know, it was
- 4:07Speaker 1: even Dak Prescott. I looked over to his locker where
- 4:10Speaker 1: he had his his hand obviously taped up. He just
- 4:13Speaker 1: seemed to be staring off in the distance a little
- 4:15Speaker 1: bit of a day's It was Cooper Rush who said,
- 4:18Speaker 1: we've got to lean on the experience that we had
- 4:21Speaker 1: from Minnesota, which was of course a win with Cooper
- 4:24Speaker 1: Rush under center, but we're now looking at possibly six
- 4:26Speaker 1: to eight weeks. Stephen Jones was on one oh five
- 4:28Speaker 1: through the Fan and said they didn't quite have a
- 4:30Speaker 1: timetable yet. He was also asked is Cooper Rusher guy
- 4:34Speaker 1: moving forward. He said, it's early on a Monday. They're
- 4:37Speaker 1: exploring all of their options, but right now that option
- 4:39Speaker 1: is Cooper Rush and Will Grews on the practice squad
- 4:42Speaker 1: will be activated back up and he will be the
- 4:44Speaker 1: backup quarterback right now against the Bengals on Sunday. There's
- 4:47Speaker 1: always the possibility, Jane, of a trade, But as one
- 4:50Speaker 1: person involved in the situation said to me, who are
- 4:53Speaker 1: they going to trade for at this point? Mason Rudolph
- 4:55Speaker 1: potentially could be available, but the Steelers aren't just going
- 4:58Speaker 1: to give him away. How much of an upgrade is
- 5:00Speaker 1: that over Cooper Rush at a time that Rudolph does
- 5:03Speaker 1: not know the offense and Cooper Rush does. Obviously, the
- 5:06Speaker 1: Eagles not gonna trade Gardner Minshew within the division with
- 5:09Speaker 1: the forty if you consider trading Jimmy Garoppolo to another
- 5:12Speaker 1: team that it views as a threat in the NFC.
- 5:15Speaker 1: All of which is to say it makes sense for
- 5:17Speaker 1: them to evaluate all the options. There just aren't when
- 5:19Speaker 1: you get into this portion of the season a ton
- 5:21Speaker 1: of good options available. The best backup quarterbacks in the
- 5:24Speaker 1: league can get by for shorter types of stretches. There's
- 5:27Speaker 1: not a lot of guys, if Dak Prescott ends up
- 5:29Speaker 1: missing let's say half the season, who are going to
- 5:32Speaker 1: be able to get through and win a majority of
- 5:34Speaker 1: those games. That's something against Cooper Rush. He came in
- 5:37Speaker 1: here to Minnesota last year when Dak Prescott missed the game,
- 5:40Speaker 1: played pretty well and they won. I believe he had
- 5:42Speaker 1: three touchdown passes in that game. So Goossless, an experience backup,
- 5:46Speaker 1: knows the system can get the ball into his playmaker's hands.
- 5:48Speaker 1: But even when Dak was out there last night, absolutely
- 5:51Speaker 1: they struggled to get the ball too much of anybody
- 5:53Speaker 1: on offense, right, much of anybody. A lot of people saying, well,
- 5:56Speaker 1: Marie Cooper must be laughing. Listen, it goes deeper than that.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Michael Gallup will be back soon. You'd have to think
- 6:03Speaker 1: that offense would have looked better with a healthy Michael
- 6:05Speaker 1: Gallup there last night. But they couldn't get much going
- 6:08Speaker 1: credit the tie Bowls in that defense. And now the
- 6:10Speaker 1: Cowboys have to figure out what to do and we'll
- 6:12Speaker 1: figure out how long they're going to have to do
- 6:14Speaker 1: that once Dak Prescott gets out of surgery. Alright, Ian Tom,
- 6:17Speaker 1: thank you back in a little bit on t J Watt.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Here's what the Cowboys have without Dak Prescott, at least
- 6:24Speaker 1: for the first couple of games. They get Joe Burrow
- 6:26Speaker 1: and the Bengals coming in next week, then a trip
- 6:29Speaker 1: to New York to face the Giants, the Commanders. Both
- 6:32Speaker 1: of those teams won their game, and oh, then just
- 6:35Speaker 1: the Rams and the Eagles. No big deal. Okay, let's
- 6:39Speaker 1: bring Mark Ross into this conversation as well for some
- 6:42Speaker 1: proNT office perspective. Steve White here with the as well. Mark.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Steve and I were sitting at Cowboys Chargers joint practice
- 6:50Speaker 1: a couple of weeks ago, and on air I said
- 6:53Speaker 1: to Steve Mark that I think the Cowboys have one
- 6:56Speaker 1: of the most suspect backup quarterback situations in the NFL.
- 6:59Speaker 1: And right now I'd make a call for Jimmy Garoppolo.
- 7:02Speaker 1: That was a month ago. They're gonna get him now.
- 7:06Speaker 1: I doubt they could have gotten him a month ago.
- 7:08Speaker 1: But you're going into a season with Cooper Rush and
- 7:11Speaker 1: Will Career as your backups. You you're barely hanging on.
- 7:15Speaker 1: You're keeping your fingers crossed. Yeah, you're struggling with Dak
- 7:19Speaker 1: Prescott as your quarterback. Last night and now you've got
- 7:21Speaker 1: Cooper Rush, and this is all about the team building.
- 7:25Speaker 1: But who's building the team Andrew and Stephen, that's Jerry Jones.
- 7:28Speaker 1: So Jerry Jones has been building this team. He's at
- 7:30Speaker 1: the GM and this is pretty much on him. And
- 7:34Speaker 1: it's almost as if the mis evaluation of how to
- 7:37Speaker 1: play in the modern NFL where a couple of weeks
- 7:39Speaker 1: ago it's we're gonna build a team around Zeke and
- 7:42Speaker 1: how Zeke goes. Well, that philosophy has been out for
- 7:45Speaker 1: a while, and now you've got Dak Prescott and you're saying, Okay,
- 7:49Speaker 1: he's been injured for the past few years, but we're
- 7:52Speaker 1: not going to put a backup quarterback in there who's
- 7:54Speaker 1: worthy to step in if Dak misses some time to
- 7:56Speaker 1: win games for us. With Cooper Rush, they got no
- 7:59Speaker 1: chance for him. The idea of trading for someone, even
- 8:01Speaker 1: if they get a body in there, it's not going
- 8:03Speaker 1: to be good enough to overcome what the rest of
- 8:05Speaker 1: the team building, where it's suspected the old line Ceedee
- 8:08Speaker 1: Lamb's your number one receiver, doesn't look like he's ready
- 8:10Speaker 1: for that. You lose a Marian Cooper, you don't adequately
- 8:13Speaker 1: adequately replace that. So when I looked at the Dallas
- 8:16Speaker 1: Cowboys as a whole, they had a lot of losses
- 8:18Speaker 1: and didn't adequately replace them, and that's on the owner.
- 8:22Speaker 1: But of course Jerry Jone is going to still be
- 8:24Speaker 1: the GM and there's no accountability there, So this might
- 8:26Speaker 1: get ugly real quick for the Cowboys there. Steve, Yeah,
- 8:30Speaker 1: look Mark in the situation, and Andrew brings up the
- 8:32Speaker 1: point because we were talking about Jimmy Garoppolo a month ago,
- 8:35Speaker 1: and even though it seems feasible, we still don't know
- 8:36Speaker 1: if Jimmy Garoppolo is fully healthy to come in and
- 8:39Speaker 1: do something. But you know, this is where you know,
- 8:41Speaker 1: I'm gonna get to Jane because it seems like they
- 8:43Speaker 1: have to do something right here, because I thought overall,
- 8:46Speaker 1: their defense played well, you know, for for having to
- 8:49Speaker 1: face the Buccaneers are putting the pressure on Tom Brady,
- 8:51Speaker 1: so they've got one half of a team, but the
- 8:54Speaker 1: rest of that offense, I mean, Todd Bowles was not
- 8:56Speaker 1: afraid to bring anybody last night because they knew they
- 8:59Speaker 1: could not block them and they didn't fear any receiving threat.
- 9:02Speaker 1: So it seems like whoever they would bring in or
- 9:05Speaker 1: they go with Cooper Rush. This offense is just not there.
- 9:08Speaker 1: And now if they tried, okay, we're gonna go through Zeke, well,
- 9:11Speaker 1: Zeke couldn't get really going. He had a couple of
- 9:13Speaker 1: nice ones last night, but then everyone knew they were
- 9:15Speaker 1: going to run the ball. So now teams are really
- 9:17Speaker 1: going to load up and put the game on Cooper Rush. So, Jane,
- 9:20Speaker 1: you know this is kind of where you know, I
- 9:23Speaker 1: want to come to you your familiarity with this team.
- 9:26Speaker 1: What is the structure of the rest that locker room
- 9:29Speaker 1: to galvanize and rally knowing that they're going into fights
- 9:33Speaker 1: the next month or so with one hand tied behind
- 9:35Speaker 1: their back. Well, I expect that Dak Prescott won't be
- 9:38Speaker 1: far from this locker room. And as Dalton Schultz in
- 9:41Speaker 1: a couple of guys reiterated last night, he is the
- 9:43Speaker 1: heart and soul of it, but he can't be out
- 9:44Speaker 1: there on the field because he's gonna likely go into
- 9:46Speaker 1: I R. And so you bring up a lot of
- 9:48Speaker 1: good questions. The problem is, and we saw this when
- 9:51Speaker 1: we were in training camp, Steve, this wide receiver group
- 9:55Speaker 1: was not impressive, and they've expected Ceedee Lamb to step
- 9:58Speaker 1: in as wide receiver one. Let's go through what his
- 10:00Speaker 1: line was last night. Targeted eleven times he hauled into
- 10:04Speaker 1: for It's an outside of the first drive. They weren't
- 10:07Speaker 1: able to really move the chains. They did try to
- 10:09Speaker 1: commit to the run game. We saw Ezekiel Elliott get
- 10:12Speaker 1: going there for a little bit, but they were employing
- 10:14Speaker 1: three tight ends, two tight ends. You had Tony Poller
- 10:17Speaker 1: in the field. They were trying to get creative and
- 10:19Speaker 1: nothing was working. It didn't help that obviously you lost
- 10:21Speaker 1: Connor McGovern on your left side, so that's now impacting
- 10:24Speaker 1: your depth on the offensive line. And then the penalties
- 10:27Speaker 1: I talked about this was gonna be an issue for them.
- 10:28Speaker 1: They were so undisciplined last year. The penalties. Let's talk
- 10:32Speaker 1: about that. They had ten penalties for seventy three yards.
- 10:35Speaker 1: They were three for fifteen on third down conversions. And
- 10:37Speaker 1: one of the big things I thought was interesting that
- 10:39Speaker 1: was asked to Stephen Jonson wanted five through the fan.
- 10:41Speaker 1: We didn't see any of these starters in the preseason.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Remember they said the joint practices were more important to them.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Was that a mistake? I think all of those things
- 10:49Speaker 1: are gonna be scrutinized and talked about because they certainly
- 10:52Speaker 1: felt out of rhythm last night. A lot of teams
- 10:54Speaker 1: started slowly yesterday. Look at the early window and how
- 10:57Speaker 1: ugly those games were, many of them in the first half.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Things picked up in the second half. The Cowboys never
- 11:03Speaker 1: had it pick up in the second half. And I
- 11:05Speaker 1: know people might be sitting at home saying, there's no
- 11:08Speaker 1: way the Niners would trade Jimmy Garoppolo, whether now or
- 11:11Speaker 1: last month, to a team they faced in the playoffs
- 11:14Speaker 1: a year ago. I get it, but both Cowboys backup
- 11:18Speaker 1: quarterbacks were cut and made it through waivers unscathed. Again
- 11:22Speaker 1: older respect, but that tells you what their backup quarterback
- 11:26Speaker 1: situation was heading into Week one, when Dak Prescott had
- 11:29Speaker 1: missed games in each of the last two years. Thank you, Jane,
- 11:32Speaker 1: thank you Mark. I'm sure we will talk about the
- 11:34Speaker 1: story at all coming up in the next month. Meantime,
- 11:37Speaker 1: other injuries as mentioned more significant, possibly than Dak Prescott.
- 11:42Speaker 1: You see T J. Watt, who was dominant, went on
- 11:45Speaker 1: the field yesterday for the Steelers, pointing to that left pack,
- 11:48Speaker 1: that left shoulder, and if you read lips you could
- 11:52Speaker 1: figure it out. Ian Rapp report, Tom Pelicero with me. Now, Ian,
- 11:56Speaker 1: what is the latest on t J. Watt. Yeah, it
- 11:59Speaker 1: is a pictorial injury. T J. Watt having an m
- 12:01Speaker 1: r I today to determine the extent of it. My
- 12:04Speaker 1: understanding is we may not get firm word on the
- 12:06Speaker 1: injury to t J. Watt, how long he is out,
- 12:09Speaker 1: and what the next step is until tomorrow is going
- 12:11Speaker 1: to get a second opinion, likely to have a couple
- 12:14Speaker 1: of different doctors review the scans and the reason why
- 12:17Speaker 1: And this is my understanding of the current situation is
- 12:20Speaker 1: that why and the Steelers are still trying to figure
- 12:22Speaker 1: out does he need surgery which would knock him out
- 12:24Speaker 1: to at least the end of the season, or can
- 12:26Speaker 1: he rehab and return in a couple of weeks. Both
- 12:29Speaker 1: of those options are on the table. There is a
- 12:31Speaker 1: possibility that he does not need surgery immediately, which would
- 12:35Speaker 1: be great. That would mean it's more of a peck
- 12:37Speaker 1: strain than a full tear. But more information coming likely
- 12:41Speaker 1: within the next twenty four hours. Meanwhile, Naji Harris, they
- 12:44Speaker 1: start running back for the Pittsburgh Steelers dealing with a
- 12:47Speaker 1: foot injury, and this is related to my understanding to
- 12:49Speaker 1: the list, Frank sprain that he had early on and
- 12:52Speaker 1: Camp kind of tweaked that a little bit. As of
- 12:55Speaker 1: right now, doesn't appear to be major, that is the
- 12:57Speaker 1: general field, but he had an ema this morning. Still
- 13:00Speaker 1: getting more tests to determine is there something else here
- 13:03Speaker 1: or is just a small the aggravation of a previous injury.
- 13:07Speaker 1: In another injury news, Patriots quarterback Mac Jones suffered a
- 13:10Speaker 1: back injury in Sunday's loss to the Dolphins. Jones actually
- 13:15Speaker 1: finished the game, but then the Patriots infeimned reporters that
- 13:18Speaker 1: Jones is not going to be available. He went to
- 13:20Speaker 1: get x rays. I was told that those x rays
- 13:23Speaker 1: were negative, but there's a lot of different stuff that
- 13:26Speaker 1: goes into back injuries. So the plan was for mac
- 13:29Speaker 1: Jones to get additional tests once they got back to Foxborough.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Those tests have been ongoing throughout the course of this morning. Certainly,
- 13:36Speaker 1: the hope for the Patriots is that mac Jones has
- 13:38Speaker 1: avoided a significant injury here, but if he does have
- 13:41Speaker 1: to miss times, then the options on their roster would
- 13:44Speaker 1: include Brian Hoyer or the rookie Bailey's appy. And one
- 13:48Speaker 1: more injury of note, Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin, who
- 13:51Speaker 1: was just coming off of a torn a c l
- 13:53Speaker 1: lasted nineteen snaps last night against the Cowboys before he
- 13:57Speaker 1: suffered a hamstring injury and was ruled out for the game.
- 14:01Speaker 1: So tests for Chris Godwin to come as well. Certainly
- 14:04Speaker 1: it was big for the Bucks to get him back
- 14:07Speaker 1: on the field. Now they once again wait to figure
- 14:09Speaker 1: out exactly how much time, if any, Godwin is gonna
- 14:12Speaker 1: have to miss. Fans were chanting Mike twice yesterday. Giants
- 14:17Speaker 1: fans were chanting, go for two, and they got it,
- 14:21Speaker 1: and they've one coming up. The New York story, year
- 14:32Speaker 1: old Tom Brady back, he's playing football, Let's go. He's
- 14:37Speaker 1: in Dallas, NBC last year this game Week one had
- 14:40Speaker 1: sixty points last night, only one touchdown one and it
- 14:44Speaker 1: was spectacular. It was Mike Evans. Look at that one hand,
- 14:48Speaker 1: one of his five catches on the nights. But the
- 14:51Speaker 1: story here is Dak Prescott's Cowboys offense did nothing with him.
- 14:55Speaker 1: They're gonna now have to survive without him. How long,
- 14:57Speaker 1: don't know, maybe a month, maybe more thumb surgery today.
- 15:02Speaker 1: But in the meantime, can I interest you in the
- 15:04Speaker 1: fact that Tom Brady is now never lost to the
- 15:05Speaker 1: Cowboys still seven, and oh, we got a long way
- 15:10Speaker 1: to go. You know, I think we all do. And
- 15:11Speaker 1: I think the team's got you know, I think the
- 15:13Speaker 1: defense played awesome. Offensively, we can do a lot better
- 15:16Speaker 1: than that tonight. So we're gonna have to We're gonna
- 15:19Speaker 1: have to score in the red area. Um, you know,
- 15:22Speaker 1: we're gonna stay healthy. We're gonna have to, you know,
- 15:24Speaker 1: get back to work and find a little bit of
- 15:26Speaker 1: regular season flow and um, just put these days together
- 15:30Speaker 1: and see if we can make some improvements. Everybody wants
- 15:33Speaker 1: to talk about gizl tweeting before the game, Let's talk
- 15:35Speaker 1: about this instead. That is Tom Brady given the game
- 15:38Speaker 1: ball to a fan there in Dallas, taken by another fan.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Pretty cool when the goat gives you the game ball.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Some were calling Brian day Ball the go to New
- 15:48Speaker 1: York today, making his head coaching debut on Night eleven
- 15:51Speaker 1: with the f d N Y had on Giants rally back.
- 15:54Speaker 1: They were down thirteen to nothing a minute ago. Chris
- 15:57Speaker 1: Myrick with the touchdown pass and guess what Brian day
- 16:01Speaker 1: Ball is going for to gain doesn't want overtime, Nope,
- 16:07Speaker 1: He's given it to say Kuan, who had his best
- 16:09Speaker 1: game since December of nineteen. Say Kwan gives him the lead,
- 16:14Speaker 1: but there is time left on the clock and it
- 16:17Speaker 1: came down to Randy Bullock. This is makeable. This is
- 16:22Speaker 1: Randy Bullock from forty seven yards away. Uh. That's a
- 16:27Speaker 1: win for the Giants and Brian Davils coaching debut one
- 16:33Speaker 1: twenty in Nashville. One game, win or lose does not
- 16:39Speaker 1: break a season. Okay, but you got what it takes
- 16:44Speaker 1: every day. You keep grinding every day, we keep getting better. Okay,
- 16:48Speaker 1: one game it's pretty day. Good football team. Give them credits. Hey,
- 16:53Speaker 1: Joe Davis, Mark Cross from a Giants executive with me,
- 17:07Speaker 1: that's one way to win the locker room week one
- 17:09Speaker 1: hall Mark without a doubt. And Brian Dable and since
- 17:13Speaker 1: he's gotten in New York has kind of done all
- 17:14Speaker 1: the right things, unlike the past couple of coaches there
- 17:17Speaker 1: where he really has the personality that has led not
- 17:20Speaker 1: only the New York's New York City area, but the
- 17:23Speaker 1: team and the organization as well. It's, you know, it's
- 17:26Speaker 1: the confidence he has. He's not trying to be out
- 17:28Speaker 1: there boasting and doing different things like hey, this is
- 17:29Speaker 1: who I am I'm I'm confident in my team and
- 17:32Speaker 1: the coaching and the preparation, and that manifested itself on
- 17:35Speaker 1: the field yesterday, where in the past few four or
- 17:38Speaker 1: five years, if they got down thirty, the game would
- 17:40Speaker 1: have been over. But yesterday they just kept coming at them,
- 17:43Speaker 1: they kept fighting. Tennessee made mistakes, the Giants capitalize on them,
- 17:46Speaker 1: and it helped that you had the vintage Sat Kwon
- 17:50Speaker 1: Barkley performance for the Giants, almost two hundred yards of
- 17:53Speaker 1: total offense. Looked like he didd as a rookie, So
- 17:56Speaker 1: that was huge for the Giants that their number one
- 17:59Speaker 1: guy there in Sa Kwon Barkley performed. Brian Dable seems
- 18:03Speaker 1: like they have a coach now to rally around. But
- 18:04Speaker 1: as Brian Dables said, it's just one game. It got
- 18:07Speaker 1: a long season. And the concern we won't talk about
- 18:09Speaker 1: the concern of the same old Daniel Jones in that
- 18:11Speaker 1: game yesterday. Let's just focus on the positives of Barclay's
- 18:15Speaker 1: back and day Balls, a legitimate coach there for the Giants.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Let's talk about Kwan because that was the first time
- 18:21Speaker 1: se Quon rushed for over a hundred and fifty yards
- 18:24Speaker 1: since December of twenty nineteen. And it's not just the
- 18:29Speaker 1: stat sheet mark, it's the eye test that looked like
- 18:33Speaker 1: the Kuon that they took at the top of the
- 18:36Speaker 1: first round. Well, you saw the explosiveness Andrew the last
- 18:39Speaker 1: couple of years with the injuries, he just didn't look
- 18:41Speaker 1: like he had that initial burst that is very rare
- 18:44Speaker 1: on backs in this league. But she saw that yesterday
- 18:46Speaker 1: where he got decreased. He was decisive and he hit
- 18:49Speaker 1: it and he went and he saw that in him yesterday.
- 18:52Speaker 1: It wasn't the dancing around. So the thing with Sa
- 18:55Speaker 1: Kwan is yes, it's the eye test. Oh yeah, that
- 18:57Speaker 1: looks like that dude that we saw at Penn State.
- 18:59Speaker 1: And as a rookie, the concern is can he maintained
- 19:02Speaker 1: this game after game and for the Giants in order
- 19:06Speaker 1: to win, he will have to do that. Obviously, won't
- 19:08Speaker 1: go for two total every game, but at least somewhere
- 19:11Speaker 1: in that range where day Ball can focus him and
- 19:13Speaker 1: build it around him until the other defenses catch up
- 19:17Speaker 1: and say, hey man, we're gonna shut you down and
- 19:18Speaker 1: make Daniel Jones beat us. Flashback to the teen draft
- 19:22Speaker 1: next week, it's Baker Bayfield and the Panthers Kwon Barkley
- 19:27Speaker 1: and the Giants thank you. Mark Ross flashback a decade
- 19:31Speaker 1: ago to Russell Wilson in a Seahawks uniform getting drafted.
- 19:35Speaker 1: I don't know if you haven't heard yet, you haven't,
- 19:37Speaker 1: let me give you the breaking news. Russell Wilson on
- 19:40Speaker 1: Monday Night football is going back to Seattle in a
- 19:43Speaker 1: Broncos uniform. Such a big game. We sent James Palmer
- 19:47Speaker 1: from Denver to Seattle for that game to chronicle how
- 19:51Speaker 1: the Seahawks welcome him. What do you think the reaction
- 19:53Speaker 1: is going to be in the stands, James, Well, Andrew,
- 19:57Speaker 1: I'll give you a little indication. Sue Bird, one of
- 19:59Speaker 1: the greatest players in the history of the w O
- 20:02Speaker 1: n b A, played her final home game just recently
- 20:05Speaker 1: here in Seattle and has played roughly twenty years in
- 20:07Speaker 1: this city. There was a video tribute to her in
- 20:09Speaker 1: the arena pregame. Russell Wilson was part of that video tribute,
- 20:14Speaker 1: and the arena booed him during a video tribute for
- 20:19Speaker 1: one of the greatest athletes in the history of the
- 20:22Speaker 1: city of Seattle. So they're expecting an environment that is
- 20:24Speaker 1: going to be rather hostile. They've been preparing with their
- 20:27Speaker 1: silent count in their offense, actually dating back all the
- 20:29Speaker 1: way to the spring. I'm told in the noise has
- 20:32Speaker 1: been cranked throughout practice this entire week now. I've been
- 20:35Speaker 1: in that locker room all week, and multiple teammates have
- 20:37Speaker 1: told me Russell Wilson isn't giving any Rob Ross speeches,
- 20:40Speaker 1: isn't really talking about the Seahawks in the manner of
- 20:42Speaker 1: I want to go beat my former team. He is
- 20:44Speaker 1: talking to them like so many players do about I
- 20:46Speaker 1: know Pete Carroll and this team so well, this could work,
- 20:49Speaker 1: this spot, we could do this. Obviously, that happens around
- 20:52Speaker 1: the league. But when I talked to a couple of
- 20:54Speaker 1: his receivers, Courtland Sutton told me, I know he wants
- 20:56Speaker 1: to find me deep. I know that something he wants
- 20:59Speaker 1: to do. I'm gonna give him that opportunity. And his
- 21:01Speaker 1: speedster kJ Hamler, who's questionable for this game and I'm
- 21:04Speaker 1: told is going to play. He told me, and maybe
- 21:06Speaker 1: put it best Andrew, that we want to go out
- 21:09Speaker 1: and dominate this game Monday night. For Russell Wilson, He's
- 21:12Speaker 1: not going to say that, but we know he feels
- 21:14Speaker 1: the exact same way, and you know they want to
- 21:16Speaker 1: run the ball as well. With Javonte Williams and Melvin Gordon,
- 21:19Speaker 1: no matter how they split up, those carries big picture
- 21:22Speaker 1: here with Hammler, what is this offense? James gonna look like?
- 21:26Speaker 1: It's interesting you bring up Javonte Williams goes a long
- 21:29Speaker 1: talk at his locker, going, what am I going to
- 21:30Speaker 1: see from you guys? We haven't seen any of the starters,
- 21:33Speaker 1: and Russell Wilson included this entire preseason. He goes, you
- 21:36Speaker 1: know what I think. I think we're gonna go up tempo.
- 21:38Speaker 1: We're gonna go up tempo a lot. We're gonna be
- 21:39Speaker 1: a team that pushes the football and tries to keep
- 21:42Speaker 1: defenses on their toes. He said, that is something that
- 21:45Speaker 1: is in Nathaniel Hackett's philosophy and he has been preaching
- 21:48Speaker 1: it to us throughout all of training camp. To make
- 21:50Speaker 1: sure we're in tremendous shape, that we can play at
- 21:53Speaker 1: this speed that he wants us to play, and also
- 21:55Speaker 1: be able to rotate players and as you mentioned with
- 21:58Speaker 1: Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams, be able to change guys
- 22:01Speaker 1: and be able to keep defenses from having the key
- 22:04Speaker 1: on certain individual Javante Williams Andrew told me that I
- 22:07Speaker 1: have lined up at every receiving position and ran almost
- 22:10Speaker 1: the entire route tree as opposed to just the deep stuff.
- 22:13Speaker 1: I didn't do that, but I ran all the stuff
- 22:15Speaker 1: the receivers run. We're gonna mix and match things all
- 22:18Speaker 1: over the field. It's gonna be exciting to see what
- 22:19Speaker 1: Nathaniel Hackett has under his sleeve. In his first game
- 22:23Speaker 1: as a head coach in the NFL. One more game
- 22:25Speaker 1: to go, Week number one, James Palmer is there in Seattle,
- 22:30Speaker 1: signed up for Russell Wilson the Broncos. DK Metcalf at
- 22:35Speaker 1: the Seahawks. Undoubtably you'll see a promo during that game
- 22:38Speaker 1: of DK Metcalf playing the piano getting you're ready for
- 22:41Speaker 1: still dre uh guarantee, guarantee or your money? Then coming
- 22:47Speaker 1: out next, Michael Thomas is back and look like the
- 22:52Speaker 1: guy from twenty nineteen? What does that mean for the Saints?
- 22:56Speaker 1: Steve White? But that one in focus coming up now?
- 23:04Speaker 1: Got a few for the Falcons here. I had a
- 23:06Speaker 1: two touchdown lead in the fourth quarter against Dennis Allen
- 23:08Speaker 1: and his Saints head coaching debut and Jamis Winston, first
- 23:11Speaker 1: game back since Week eight of last year in the
- 23:13Speaker 1: bad knee injury. Michael Thomas had only played seven games
- 23:17Speaker 1: since nineteen. He's in the end zone. They went for
- 23:19Speaker 1: two to tie. It didn't get it, but they get
- 23:21Speaker 1: the ball back and then Will Loot's everybody from fifty
- 23:25Speaker 1: one good for about the lightness. Dennis Allen is a
- 23:32Speaker 1: head coaching winner Whites for the first time since this
- 23:37Speaker 1: is why it's so difficult. It's so hard in training camp.
- 23:41Speaker 1: So we're ready for mulloks like this. And I said
- 23:45Speaker 1: I said it last week. I'll say it again. Okay,
- 23:47Speaker 1: this ain't gonna be the last time we do this. Okay,
- 23:49Speaker 1: hell of the job part of you guys, let's sick
- 23:51Speaker 1: from take care of first game. Okay, I'm gonna say
- 24:13Speaker 1: little everybody. Former Raider head coach Dennis Allen. Steve White
- 24:21Speaker 1: gets a second shot there and his team rallies back.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Here's a stat about your Falcon. Steve works with the
- 24:26Speaker 1: Falcons in the preseason, since they have blown three fourth
- 24:30Speaker 1: quarter leads of fifteen or more points. The rest of
- 24:32Speaker 1: the NFL has blown only two such leads in that time.
- 24:36Speaker 1: And then you have the Saint side of it, where
- 24:38Speaker 1: their offense got clicking in the fourth quarter. How do
- 24:40Speaker 1: you read this one? So I read this says, oh,
- 24:43Speaker 1: two parts for the falcon you talked about giving up
- 24:46Speaker 1: the leads. We can look at the defense saying that
- 24:48Speaker 1: they blew it, but it's the offense. Repeatedly, this happening
- 24:50Speaker 1: when Matt Ryan was there. They can't get a first
- 24:52Speaker 1: down when they need it. It happened in the fourth
- 24:55Speaker 1: quarter again. But here's the bigger Oh. If you watch
- 24:59Speaker 1: that game and you saw after a slow start, how
- 25:03Speaker 1: Jamis Winston looked throwing it to can't guard Mike. The
- 25:07Speaker 1: rest of the league better get ready if they get
- 25:10Speaker 1: it going. That's a J. Tarrell Garden, a J. Charles
- 25:12Speaker 1: were the best corners in the league. Jamis was putting
- 25:15Speaker 1: the ball in places where only his guy can catch it.
- 25:18Speaker 1: And then some of the catches that Mike Thomas, there's
- 25:21Speaker 1: Jarvis Landry. The way they got going and the way
- 25:25Speaker 1: they were able to spread those dvs out was just
- 25:28Speaker 1: absolutely incredible. Landry again, again, the Saints offense look kind
- 25:33Speaker 1: of sloppy and sluggage, like they really hadn't worked together,
- 25:36Speaker 1: which was the case. And then in the fourth quarter
- 25:38Speaker 1: to rally from sixteen downs, Jamison throw for two d
- 25:41Speaker 1: seventeen yard plus look at that catch in coverage. Okay,
- 25:46Speaker 1: a lot of people have said that, you know, the
- 25:47Speaker 1: Saints are a sleeper team to win the NFC South
- 25:50Speaker 1: with that offense, the way it was rolling in the
- 25:52Speaker 1: fourth quarter. If they can continue that with that defense,
- 25:55Speaker 1: people better start recognizing this is a very dangerous With
- 25:59Speaker 1: Michael Thomas, with Jarvis Landry, with Crystal lav we we
- 26:02Speaker 1: projected a lot during the summer. We saw that in
- 26:05Speaker 1: the fourth course. Two hundred yards of offense from Jamis
- 26:09Speaker 1: and those guys in the fourth quarter. All right, keep
- 26:13Speaker 1: an eye on that. But again the Falcons couldn't get
- 26:16Speaker 1: a first aid that this replay replay. Arthur Smith walked
- 26:20Speaker 1: off the podium pretty angry. UM. A lot of consternation
- 26:24Speaker 1: today in San Francisco about Trey Lance in the rain.
- 26:28Speaker 1: In Chicago, a lot of celebration as well in Chicago
- 26:32Speaker 1: about Justin Fields rallying them back in the rain. Remember,
- 26:37Speaker 1: remember Dante Pettis for the diners, I do they would
- 26:40Speaker 1: rather not because they let him go and he just
- 26:42Speaker 1: roasted them on that play. Fields remembered he was there
- 26:46Speaker 1: on the backside after scrambling away from a sack. And
- 26:48Speaker 1: then we remember the Bears had defensive talent here and
- 26:51Speaker 1: that Eddie Jackson with the interception. Eddie Jackson seals this
- 26:57Speaker 1: deal and Matt Eberflus is a game winner. Everybody slipped
- 27:02Speaker 1: and slide and celebrate meantime in the other locker room.
- 27:09Speaker 1: I made too many mistakes, Um, defense kept us in
- 27:11Speaker 1: the game. Had a big miss too, to Tyler Croft
- 27:15Speaker 1: in the end zone. I tried to throw a perfect boss,
- 27:18Speaker 1: just put it right on him and he was wide open. Uh,
- 27:21Speaker 1: turned the ball over, took a sack, the knocks out
- 27:24Speaker 1: of fieldal range that I shouldn't have missed evo on
- 27:26Speaker 1: the third down. Um, it's another third down to Juwan. Uh.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Just too many mistakes, a lot of stuff to clean
- 27:33Speaker 1: up for sure for me. Um, but man excited and
- 27:36Speaker 1: still got my head up, excited to get ready to
- 27:38Speaker 1: go next week. Just what we were built on. Um.
- 27:41Speaker 1: You know, coach always says, you know, it's uh mentonal stamina,
- 27:46Speaker 1: mental and physical stamina. Who can play the longest, uh
- 27:51Speaker 1: the hardest, and you know, just just play every play.
- 27:53Speaker 1: So UM, I think you know we won this game
- 27:56Speaker 1: with mental and physical statement. So I'm proud of the defense,
- 27:59Speaker 1: prout of the old line, just just proud of everybody today.
- 28:02Speaker 1: I want to make something Claire Mark Ross not here
- 28:04Speaker 1: to pile off Trey Lance the futurist, right, He's an
- 28:06Speaker 1: inexperienced quarterback playing in a monsoon yesterday and without George Kittle.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Find this comment though from Bears dB Jalen Johnson interesting.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Asked about Trey Lance, he says, quote, what do you
- 28:20Speaker 1: think he did? He ain't do bleep. We made him
- 28:24Speaker 1: play quarterback and and that's what you. Players look at
- 28:28Speaker 1: things differently than the media does or coaches and say, oh,
- 28:31Speaker 1: he's going to develop and he's going to get better
- 28:33Speaker 1: and all those excuses. Players don't care about that, Andrew.
- 28:35Speaker 1: They're like, this is the guy I'm lining up against,
- 28:37Speaker 1: and this is what he did against us, And they
- 28:39Speaker 1: don't care about the narratives and whatnot. And for Trey Lance,
- 28:42Speaker 1: it was a struggle and the things that worried you
- 28:45Speaker 1: about him. Yes, since this is truly first started last year.
- 28:48Speaker 1: He had a couple of starts, but first started this
- 28:50Speaker 1: year with all the off season preparation as the number
- 28:52Speaker 1: one are things that are independent of the weather. And
- 28:55Speaker 1: that was the vision where he just locks on two
- 28:58Speaker 1: receivers and kind of just throws right there. That was
- 29:01Speaker 1: a sword of how he looked in college as well,
- 29:04Speaker 1: where the concern of okay, if he just plays more,
- 29:06Speaker 1: plays more, the vision will get better. But will it?
- 29:09Speaker 1: And the elephant in the room is still Jimmy G. Okay,
- 29:12Speaker 1: he did he played poorly yesterday. What about next week
- 29:15Speaker 1: in the week after, if we continue to see these
- 29:18Speaker 1: struggles by Trey Lance. And I said this the week
- 29:20Speaker 1: before the game, will there now be like, well, what
- 29:23Speaker 1: Jimmy G in there? We know Jimmy G can get
- 29:25Speaker 1: us to a certain level. We're not gonna stand for
- 29:28Speaker 1: the struggles with Trey Lance. We're gonna We're not gonna
- 29:30Speaker 1: sacrifice his development for the team. So at least for
- 29:33Speaker 1: one game, this is still going to be an issue
- 29:35Speaker 1: until he proves Trey Lance that he is the guy
- 29:38Speaker 1: and he can make plays. Andrew what you see from
- 29:41Speaker 1: Justin Fields mark because when they were down, he made
- 29:45Speaker 1: a couple of throws and brought him back. Well, that's
- 29:48Speaker 1: why I love love Justin Fields in college and I
- 29:50Speaker 1: liked him better than Trey Lance. And the body of work,
- 29:53Speaker 1: the accomplishments, the production he had. But mostly I thought
- 29:57Speaker 1: of that draft class, of all those quarterbacks, he was
- 30:00Speaker 1: the best playmaker. And in games like that, it's okay
- 30:04Speaker 1: you can struggle for quarters, you can struggle for series,
- 30:07Speaker 1: but when it's time to make big time plays, those
- 30:10Speaker 1: are the players that can separate themselves. And I thought
- 30:12Speaker 1: Justin Fields was that dude coming out of college. He
- 30:15Speaker 1: showed a little bit of it last year, and now
- 30:17Speaker 1: in game one, everything's against him. They're down, they look
- 30:20Speaker 1: they look bad, not a lot of talent around him.
- 30:22Speaker 1: But he said, I can make plays, and he did that,
- 30:25Speaker 1: and that's what I loved about him. And I think
- 30:27Speaker 1: that's why Chicago fans should be happy about it and
- 30:30Speaker 1: and optimistic about Justin fields growth and development because of
- 30:34Speaker 1: that playmaking element which he showed yesterday and separated himself
- 30:38Speaker 1: against Trey Lance, who didn't make those plays. Andrew, Oh,
- 30:41Speaker 1: they they are optimistic this morning. There there were not
- 30:44Speaker 1: a lot of big expectations there from the fan base.
- 30:47Speaker 1: Woke up yesterday morning, biblical rain. This is going to
- 30:50Speaker 1: be ugly. Oh they won. Wait wait and the Packers lost,
- 30:54Speaker 1: and and we go to Lambeau next week. In prime
- 30:56Speaker 1: time on Sunday night. People are happy two minutes to
- 31:01Speaker 1: minutes remaining. One more thing before we go in or
- 31:03Speaker 1: apaport up. First, we have an updated on the status
- 31:07Speaker 1: of Patriots quarterback Mac Jones, who was banged up yesterday.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Did not talk to reporters because a back injury. Sources
- 31:14Speaker 1: say he's dealing with back spasms. We know X rays
- 31:17Speaker 1: or negative is colleague Tom Plso reported not believed to
- 31:21Speaker 1: be a major injury. His status will be monitored throughout
- 31:24Speaker 1: the week. Nothing major, Okay, potentially good news there, Judy.
- 31:27Speaker 1: One more thing. I want to give a week one
- 31:30Speaker 1: shout out to dancing coaches. You're gonna see Mike Tomlin
- 31:34Speaker 1: come into the frame here. I love this during the
- 31:36Speaker 1: A B dance here lots of celebrated Pittsburgh go look
- 31:40Speaker 1: up Brian Gable dancing in the victorious giant flock room
- 31:43Speaker 1: to more dancing coaches. That's what we need in the NFL.
- 31:46Speaker 1: We're dancing coach. If we needed that on the screen, please,
- 31:49Speaker 1: more dancing coaches. Mark Ross, One barding thing, Andrew, did
- 31:53Speaker 1: you see Mayweather packed out to this week? Wow? No?
- 31:57Speaker 1: Actually it was leban Bell against Adrian Peterson. And Abo
- 32:04Speaker 1: if Rida. Man, and someone give these guys some contractors
- 32:08Speaker 1: and get them from doing this stuff. Man, they're still
- 32:10Speaker 1: eligible to play. But that was vicious right there. Man.
- 32:13Speaker 1: Levian Bell can do more than just drop a mixtape.
- 32:16Speaker 1: He can drop Adrian Peterson as well. That hurt me
- 32:19Speaker 1: watching it, yikes. NFL Now is a production of the
