- 0:00Speaker 1: Scrubbing In with Becca Tilly and Tanya rad and iHeartRadio.
- 0:04Speaker 2: And two time People's Choice Award winning podcasts. Hello everybody,
- 0:13Speaker 2: we are scrubbing in.
- 0:16Speaker 3: Nah.
- 0:16Speaker 4: We have two very special guests.
- 0:20Speaker 1: No, like, I actually don't know what to say because
- 0:22Speaker 1: they're actual icons.
- 0:24Speaker 4: They're so.
- 0:27Speaker 2: They are perfect guests for our podcast and our listeners.
- 0:30Speaker 1: It doesn't get more millennial than these two men, in
- 0:34Speaker 1: my opinion, because Stephen COLLETTI we all grew up, we
- 0:37Speaker 1: knew him from Laguna Beach, fell back in love with
- 0:41Speaker 1: him on Traders this season, I.
- 0:44Speaker 4: Say there was a big stint of One Tree Hill.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Ye, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, that's how he met
- 0:49Speaker 1: our other guest, James Lafferty. They were on One Tree
- 0:52Speaker 1: Hill together and now they're doing a new show called
- 0:55Speaker 1: Everyone is Doing Great and it's gonna be on Netflix,
- 0:58Speaker 1: which is huge.
- 0:59Speaker 2: And Everyone is doing great because they're scrubbing in today.
- 1:03Speaker 4: Are you doing great?
- 1:04Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:04Speaker 1: Actually, it's really funny. So I got I was like,
- 1:06Speaker 1: I look like a little bit better than I usually do.
- 1:09Speaker 1: And Robbie goes, did you get dressed for your boyfriend today?
- 1:12Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:13Speaker 2: Yeah, because you had a big crush on Jave Leberty,
- 1:17Speaker 2: who played Nathan Scott.
- 1:19Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:19Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, but to you, they were the same person.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Yeah, And I kind of feel like in that era
- 1:24Speaker 1: of our lives, like everybody.
- 1:25Speaker 5: Was like, oh, Chad Michael Murray, Chad Michael Murray.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Girly.
- 1:28Speaker 4: I don't know. I think it was pretty even more.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I felt like I was an outlier that I
- 1:34Speaker 1: like Nathan Scott.
- 1:36Speaker 2: No, no, no, I think it's a pretty fifty Yeah.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Yeah, dang, okay, okay, well please do the honors.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Two of the millennial gals biggest crushes are scrubbing in today.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Everyone welcomed James Leaperty and Stephen Kaletti.
- 1:50Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:55Speaker 4: Wow, Yeah.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Tanya is just she can't even believe that y'all are here,
- 1:59Speaker 2: to the point where she thinks someone.
- 2:01Speaker 4: Set up a fan of our podcast at this up
- 2:04Speaker 4: because she just can't believe it. How else could it happen?
- 2:07Speaker 5: I mean truly, I was like, somebody in their lives
- 2:12Speaker 5: listens to this podcast, we heard about you.
- 2:15Speaker 6: We are currently shooting season three.
- 2:17Speaker 3: If everyone's doing great, and this is a bit and
- 2:20Speaker 3: maybe you guys are getting the wool pulled over your eyes.
- 2:25Speaker 7: Are you actually shooting?
- 2:26Speaker 1: Are you actually shooting season three right now, not yet,
- 2:29Speaker 1: we'll get there the can Yes, season two and coming
- 2:33Speaker 1: out on Male eleventh.
- 2:34Speaker 6: If this hasn't aired already, No, this will air.
- 2:36Speaker 5: This is going to air before.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Okay, yes, so momentarily, can we let's just jump right
- 2:41Speaker 2: into that because we will dive back into the past.
- 2:44Speaker 2: But since we're on the topic of current days and
- 2:47Speaker 2: what y'all are working on, can we jump into that?
- 2:49Speaker 2: Because first of all, y'all are best friends in real life?
- 2:52Speaker 4: Is that right?
- 2:53Speaker 7: We try to tell people that you know, you put
- 2:56Speaker 7: the best pressure. We like to keep it CASU one
- 3:02Speaker 7: years and for best and we know each other for
- 3:04Speaker 7: nineteen we get there. Yeah, true, true, Yeah.
- 3:07Speaker 4: Good friends.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Yeah, how did the concept for the show come about?
- 3:14Speaker 2: And then I want to talk about how y'all were
- 3:15Speaker 2: able to get it made and raise the money for
- 3:18Speaker 2: it because my fiance is and she just directed her
- 3:21Speaker 2: first feature film and watching her do the process of
- 3:25Speaker 2: getting it made and the money and all the things
- 3:27Speaker 2: that went along with it, it's a miracle that anything
- 3:30Speaker 2: gets made basically.
- 3:31Speaker 3: So, oh, I'm gonna let James take this, but I
- 3:34Speaker 3: will say that the very beginning he came over to
- 3:37Speaker 3: my house with a piece of paper that was folded
- 3:39Speaker 3: up in his pocket, and we had to catch up
- 3:41Speaker 3: chat because you know, we're best friends.
- 3:43Speaker 6: We need to make sure everyone's okay. And then he brought.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Out the piece of paper and said, Hey, this is
- 3:47Speaker 3: what I'm thinking for the show, and I love him
- 3:49Speaker 3: to take it from there.
- 3:51Speaker 7: Wow. Thanks man. So everybody's just relaxed for the next
- 3:55Speaker 7: forty minutes. No, I'm just kidding. Yeah, look, we yeah,
- 4:01Speaker 7: you know, like you just said, like, you know what
- 4:02Speaker 7: it's like. You've seen what it's like when somebody's trying
- 4:05Speaker 7: to pull their project together. I think equally as sort
- 4:08Speaker 7: of difficult and time consuming can be the process of
- 4:11Speaker 7: just like sort of writing a script or a pitch
- 4:13Speaker 7: and then taking it out to pitch it to people,
- 4:16Speaker 7: to ask for permission to make it, right, to ask
- 4:18Speaker 7: people for you know, studios or production companies to make it.
- 4:22Speaker 7: And we had an idea that was very very we
- 4:27Speaker 7: could shoot a pilot for it. We knew we could
- 4:28Speaker 7: shoot a pilot for it, a pilot episode for it
- 4:30Speaker 7: in like four days, right, and we only needed like
- 4:34Speaker 7: actors and our locations that we literally live in. And
- 4:38Speaker 7: we just kind of realized that we had the resources
- 4:41Speaker 7: to do this. We just needed to pull it together
- 4:43Speaker 7: as a production. We could shoot it for very very
- 4:46Speaker 7: cheap and we would have at least a pilot to
- 4:48Speaker 7: shop instead of a script, right, And so that's what
- 4:51Speaker 7: we did, and we ended up taking it out and
- 4:55Speaker 7: we weren't getting sort of the looks that we wanted.
- 4:58Speaker 7: We weren't getting the opportunities to make the show that
- 5:00Speaker 7: we wanted to make the entire season. So we decided
- 5:05Speaker 7: that we were going to crowdfund, and so we spent
- 5:07Speaker 7: a few months crowdfunding the thing, which was a whole
- 5:11Speaker 7: journey in its I mean, that was a whole production
- 5:13Speaker 7: in itself. And then it's thankfully, like the fans of
- 5:17Speaker 7: One Tree Hill, fans of Luna Beach, fans of like
- 5:19Speaker 7: Alex's show, the Royals and Caribas show H two O like,
- 5:23Speaker 7: they really showed up for us in a huge way
- 5:25Speaker 7: and got us that budget and we went straight into
- 5:28Speaker 7: shooting season one from there and from there it was,
- 5:33Speaker 7: you know, another year until we had i think licensed
- 5:37Speaker 7: the first season to Hulu. After that, it took us
- 5:40Speaker 7: about a year just to grow our souls and our
- 5:42Speaker 7: brain cells back. After that whole world journey we went on,
- 5:46Speaker 7: and then it was like, all right, let's do season two.
- 5:48Speaker 7: So we took it upon ourselves to make season two
- 5:51Speaker 7: because again, we wanted to make it how we wanted
- 5:54Speaker 7: to make it. We had a very specific vision for it,
- 5:56Speaker 7: and we felt like we had pulled that vision off
- 5:58Speaker 7: with season one. So we just didn't want any more
- 6:01Speaker 7: intervention from anyone, or any intervention from anyone. Yeah, so
- 6:05Speaker 7: we went ahead with season two, and then there was
- 6:10Speaker 7: this was like the whole the whole journey was like
- 6:13Speaker 7: sort of difficult, and there was hitches and bumps in
- 6:15Speaker 7: the road along the way. But I think the from
- 6:19Speaker 7: the from the time we finished season two editing it
- 6:22Speaker 7: and everything and locking the episodes to when we actually
- 6:26Speaker 7: we are now able to announce that it's coming out
- 6:28Speaker 7: on Netflix May eleventh, has been probably the most taxing
- 6:33Speaker 7: of it all, just because of the amount of time
- 6:35Speaker 7: it took and the industry contraction that was going on
- 6:37Speaker 7: right when we were going to market and all kinds
- 6:40Speaker 7: of stuff. But yeah, I mean this everything that I
- 6:43Speaker 7: just described to you, there has been seven year odyssey.
- 6:47Speaker 5: Yeah. The first one came out in twenty twenty one, yeah,
- 6:49Speaker 5: now twenty six.
- 6:50Speaker 7: Yeah, so well, basically basically pacing with euphoria.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Right, yeah, that's.
- 6:59Speaker 4: Time, you know.
- 7:00Speaker 7: Yeah, So so that's the journey. I mean, where was
- 7:05Speaker 7: that taking me, Sar, I got lost myself.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Yeah, it's there's a lot we go over here. It's
- 7:09Speaker 3: it's as you were saying earlier, like the chance of
- 7:11Speaker 3: anything getting made in this industry doesn't matter who you are.
- 7:14Speaker 3: I mean, you could be Brad Pitt, or you can
- 7:16Speaker 3: be somebody just starting out. Like anything getting made is
- 7:19Speaker 3: its own little miracle. And James like to say sometimes
- 7:21Speaker 3: it's almost like if you stare at the mountain, say
- 7:23Speaker 3: all right, this is what you need to do to
- 7:25Speaker 3: actually get your show on air. A lot of folks
- 7:27Speaker 3: might not do it because it can't there's just a
- 7:30Speaker 3: lot of unknowns and it's a long long time. But
- 7:33Speaker 3: when you've got a community of folks and good friends
- 7:35Speaker 3: to work with, like thankfully we all kind of push
- 7:37Speaker 3: each other through it so you get.
- 7:39Speaker 1: It's very beautifully shot. Like it looks expensive if we well, I.
- 7:45Speaker 6: Mean, premium content is what we're trying to create.
- 7:48Speaker 7: And I think that was like what we set out
- 7:50Speaker 7: to do. We realized that, like you can do this
- 7:52Speaker 7: now and in the same way that I think probably
- 7:54Speaker 7: in like the seventies and the eighties, people realized, hey,
- 7:56Speaker 7: you can make like a feature film without a studio
- 7:58Speaker 7: and it can still go to theaters. People will go
- 8:01Speaker 7: watch it like it's a feature film that you know,
- 8:03Speaker 7: MGM made or something I've Back in twenty seventeen, we
- 8:06Speaker 7: felt like TV was like the technology and the access
- 8:11Speaker 7: to resources had reached the point to where you could
- 8:13Speaker 7: do that with television, right, you could do that with
- 8:16Speaker 7: a long season, and you know, we thought that's what
- 8:20Speaker 7: we pulled off with with season one. It just turns
- 8:23Speaker 7: out that like the model of independent television is so
- 8:27Speaker 7: new that it doesn't really it's it's had a difficult
- 8:31Speaker 7: time finding its place, like in the marketplace of TV
- 8:35Speaker 7: shows that are produced for studios by studios. But I
- 8:39Speaker 7: think now it's sort of the concept of sort of
- 8:41Speaker 7: catching up to the times a little bit, and we
- 8:45Speaker 7: might see it happening more like you might see more
- 8:48Speaker 7: people coming together to create a TV show that way
- 8:51Speaker 7: that they would have an indie movie.
- 8:53Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Well, I also feel like there's this, I mean, especially
- 8:57Speaker 2: with AI and stuff, there's this thing where everything kind
- 8:59Speaker 2: of feel like you've lost the creativity. So I feel
- 9:02Speaker 2: like y'all even though it's probably just a nightmare trying
- 9:06Speaker 2: to get it done and like having to figure out
- 9:09Speaker 2: how are we going to get the funds, how are
- 9:10Speaker 2: we gonna distribute it? It essentially was your idea and
- 9:15Speaker 2: your vision, right that came to life because y'all were
- 9:18Speaker 2: in control of it.
- 9:19Speaker 4: Yeah, at the end of the day, I mean, yeah, how.
- 9:22Speaker 1: How I know it's loose it's loosely based on your lives,
- 9:25Speaker 1: which I understand now having seen it.
- 9:28Speaker 5: How like, how much of it is based on your lives?
- 9:32Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, it's we obviously are are in a
- 9:35Speaker 3: world where we know very well, and we wanted to
- 9:37Speaker 3: on purpose. It's it's you know, talk about being on
- 9:40Speaker 3: a teen drama or having a lot of success when
- 9:42Speaker 3: you're younger and finding these guys years later and see
- 9:45Speaker 3: what they're going through. You know, we really wanted to
- 9:49Speaker 3: be able to, you know, come from a place of all, right,
- 9:50Speaker 3: we know this world well, and we've had a unique perspective.
- 9:54Speaker 3: We have a lot of stories that we've shared with
- 9:56Speaker 3: each other and had laughs up. You know, horror stories
- 9:58Speaker 3: of auditioning or being on set and just whatever. Being
- 10:00Speaker 3: in this crazy business, so we knew we wanted to
- 10:03Speaker 3: set there, but as far as like where our place
- 10:05Speaker 3: is in it, we like to say, if there was
- 10:09Speaker 3: a point where we just stopped maturing, you know, the
- 10:11Speaker 3: version of ourselves being being very young and they say,
- 10:14Speaker 3: you know, for folks that are very famous young, they
- 10:16Speaker 3: sometimes they stop maturing and you know they can struggle
- 10:20Speaker 3: a little bit as they get into their midlife. So
- 10:22Speaker 3: we were kind of playing with that a little bit. Thankfully,
- 10:25Speaker 3: you know, we're not these guys. You know, we would
- 10:27Speaker 3: they would not be able to make a TV show
- 10:29Speaker 3: and they have a lot that they need to figure
- 10:31Speaker 3: out and making a lot of poor decisions, and that's
- 10:33Speaker 3: what we wanted to do to it. I think Koree Behind,
- 10:36Speaker 3: one of our actresses, she put it best. She said,
- 10:38Speaker 3: it's almost like if you listen to the little devil
- 10:40Speaker 3: on your shoulder at all times, you know, and just
- 10:43Speaker 3: said yes to him, this is the result of your
- 10:46Speaker 3: life would be life.
- 10:48Speaker 6: Because this is the show.
- 10:49Speaker 3: It's got a lot of absurd comedy, but it's still
- 10:51Speaker 3: there's some heart in there. You know, Like these guys,
- 10:53Speaker 3: it goes they're trying to you know, do their best
- 10:56Speaker 3: and trying to make their way, but they're really struggling
- 10:58Speaker 3: along the way, and it's because they've just having a
- 11:00Speaker 3: very late coming of age.
- 11:01Speaker 7: So yeah, yeah, one hundred percent. I feel like, to
- 11:04Speaker 7: what Kariba was saying, it's that's how I've always thought
- 11:07Speaker 7: about these characters. They're like the versions of ourselves that
- 11:10Speaker 7: we are the most terrified of, that we might have
- 11:13Speaker 7: seen like glimpses of in the past. And uh and
- 11:16Speaker 7: had to take a moment and look in the mirror
- 11:18Speaker 7: and be like, you know, okay, it's time to put
- 11:21Speaker 7: some pants on and put Red Dead Redemption on pause
- 11:26Speaker 7: and go outside.
- 11:27Speaker 5: Yeah, and actually I can't even imagine.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Well, we can get into that later, but I feel
- 11:31Speaker 1: like coming off of what you you guys came off
- 11:34Speaker 1: of in your past is probably like I don't feel
- 11:37Speaker 1: like anybody can really relate to that, Like that's just like,
- 11:40Speaker 1: well so crazy.
- 11:42Speaker 7: I think in a way, that's what like kind of
- 11:46Speaker 7: drew us to the show was that we realized that.
- 11:49Speaker 7: And I think a lot of people on you know,
- 11:53Speaker 7: television shows that have been successful feel this way about
- 11:57Speaker 7: their experience. It's like an experience that like only you had,
- 12:01Speaker 7: And so even if you know you don't get along
- 12:05Speaker 7: now or you didn't get along in the past, there's
- 12:07Speaker 7: always like a familiarity there. You know each other on
- 12:11Speaker 7: a level that no one else will be able to understand.
- 12:14Speaker 7: So there is like this natural camaraderie that comes out
- 12:18Speaker 7: of that, and I feel like people recognize that, and
- 12:23Speaker 7: I feel like that's why the first question that people
- 12:27Speaker 7: ask us a lot of the times about our respective
- 12:30Speaker 7: shows or you know, One Tree Hill is is everybody
- 12:33Speaker 7: friends in real life? That's what everybody wants to know.
- 12:36Speaker 7: The first thing they want to know as everyone friends
- 12:38Speaker 7: in real life. And I think that's because they want
- 12:41Speaker 7: us to be friends in real life because the characters
- 12:44Speaker 7: were friends and they feel like, you know, they feel
- 12:48Speaker 7: like our friends as well, So it's like, you know,
- 12:51Speaker 7: I mean, that's That's one of the things that drew
- 12:53Speaker 7: us to this concept was was exploring that, Okay, what's
- 12:56Speaker 7: the actual answer to that question? Right? And for this
- 12:59Speaker 7: particular world, they absolutely are still friends, but they probably
- 13:06Speaker 7: have no business being friends, right, Like they probably shouldn't
- 13:08Speaker 7: be friends, they probably shouldn't be married to each other,
- 13:10Speaker 7: they probably shouldn't have relationships, but they are the only
- 13:14Speaker 7: ones that understand like where they're coming from, and how
- 13:18Speaker 7: confused they are about where they're going, and so they
- 13:21Speaker 7: lean on each other, you know, and it just creates
- 13:24Speaker 7: conflict and chaos, and that's where the humor comes from.
- 13:27Speaker 7: But I mean what you just said right there, really,
- 13:28Speaker 7: I think like speaks to the heart of the show,
- 13:30Speaker 7: and I think people can sort of they're interested in it,
- 13:32Speaker 7: but can also relate to it with other things they've
- 13:34Speaker 7: been through in their lives.
- 13:36Speaker 1: I was watching it with my husband and I've never
- 13:38Speaker 1: seen Entourage, so I couldn't I can't speak to this,
- 13:40Speaker 1: but he was like, the show gives me Entourage vibes,
- 13:43Speaker 1: and I was like, Oh, that's I'm gonna tell them that.
- 13:45Speaker 5: That's a really good compliment.
- 13:46Speaker 7: That's awesome. Yeah, that's perfect. I mean, yeah, we feel
- 13:48Speaker 7: like we feel like we kind of set out to
- 13:51Speaker 7: be like the anti Entourage and that we're Entourage is
- 13:54Speaker 7: like aspirational, you know, like it's about like them succeeding
- 13:57Speaker 7: ours is about like how many times can you up
- 14:00Speaker 7: and fall before you like don't get up again, or
- 14:03Speaker 7: thinking about not getting up, or for a friend has
- 14:05Speaker 7: to help you out, you know. But you know, the
- 14:08Speaker 7: the yeah, I mean, like the camaraderie aspect of that show.
- 14:11Speaker 7: We can all agree it was like what it's so
- 14:14Speaker 7: famous for, Like it just captured friendship, and so that's
- 14:17Speaker 7: a huge compliment.
- 14:34Speaker 2: I want to throw it back to how both of
- 14:38Speaker 2: your lives in this world got started, because we know
- 14:43Speaker 2: y'all from a very a similar era and obviously y'all
- 14:46Speaker 2: were on the show together. But Steven, I want to
- 14:48Speaker 2: go back to Laguna Beach for you because I was
- 14:51Speaker 2: listening to your podcast with Tish Cyrus and I was
- 14:54Speaker 2: always wondering this reality. It was kind of in its
- 14:58Speaker 2: own world of reality TV. There wasn't the the casting
- 15:06Speaker 2: I guess, like you didn't go to a casting call,
- 15:07Speaker 2: is that right?
- 15:08Speaker 4: Like they just kind of just showed.
- 15:09Speaker 3: Up at our high school for breaking lunch with a
- 15:11Speaker 3: table and some packets to fill out. It was purely random.
- 15:14Speaker 3: We are victims of circumstances, like yeah.
- 15:18Speaker 4: So how how many people signed up?
- 15:21Speaker 3: There are a lot of people, and it was mostly
- 15:24Speaker 3: a lot of the girls did and a lot of
- 15:25Speaker 3: guys were like playing it cool and doing the whole like,
- 15:28Speaker 3: you know, screw MTV.
- 15:29Speaker 6: Whatever happened music television? That's so lame. And I was like, yeah,
- 15:32Speaker 6: that's so late.
- 15:32Speaker 3: When never and then sneaking in like I'm totally gonna
- 15:36Speaker 3: do this because I wanted to work in entertainment and
- 15:38Speaker 3: I wanted to host.
- 15:39Speaker 6: I had you know, that was middle school.
- 15:42Speaker 3: They had those superlatives where it's like most likely, and
- 15:44Speaker 3: one of them was most likely to be a VJ.
- 15:46Speaker 3: And I was like, even though there's no one was
- 15:48Speaker 3: going to vote for me, I just thought I was
- 15:49Speaker 3: sitting at home like that would be so cool if
- 15:51Speaker 3: they voted for me. And of course they did not,
- 15:53Speaker 3: but it's just where my mind was at. And so yeah,
- 15:56Speaker 3: that's why. And your senior year, so I happened to
- 15:58Speaker 3: And that's the other thing. If it was sophomore junior year,
- 16:01Speaker 3: I probably wouldn't have done it. I wouldn't have had
- 16:02Speaker 3: the balls to do it. But uh, second semester senior year,
- 16:05Speaker 3: you're you're ready to get out of there. Yeah, so
- 16:07Speaker 3: I was like, let's let's go for it, let's do it.
- 16:09Speaker 1: But nobody knew that it was going to be like
- 16:11Speaker 1: it was. It was like a phenomenon.
- 16:14Speaker 3: It was honestly, we just expected to be like a
- 16:16Speaker 3: little documentary one hour, you know. It was to me,
- 16:20Speaker 3: it was all about just you know, meeting it was
- 16:21Speaker 3: connecting and networking and and maybe MTV was going to
- 16:25Speaker 3: pay for a couple of events like a dinner or a.
- 16:27Speaker 6: Trip, and that was going to be it, you know.
- 16:30Speaker 6: So yeah, we really.
- 16:31Speaker 3: Had no idea about how far it was going to
- 16:33Speaker 3: actually go. And they do multiple seasons.
- 16:34Speaker 2: So you knew you wanted to be in the industry
- 16:36Speaker 2: in some capacity, and you were like, this could be
- 16:40Speaker 2: my way in at a dinner.
- 16:43Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:44Speaker 3: I remember when I was walking up to pick up
- 16:45Speaker 3: a packet from the producer. You know, I was like,
- 16:48Speaker 3: all right, let's find out if this guy works for
- 16:49Speaker 3: an MTV or if he just somebody's hired for the day.
- 16:52Speaker 3: You know, It's like do I need to know this
- 16:53Speaker 3: person or not. I was just kind of thinking that
- 16:55Speaker 3: way from the jump.
- 16:56Speaker 2: So when when it blew up, how did your friends
- 16:59Speaker 2: that thought it was the lame from the get go?
- 17:01Speaker 4: How did everyone respond?
- 17:02Speaker 2: Oh?
- 17:03Speaker 3: I mean I got a lot of grief because they
- 17:05Speaker 3: focused a lot which we also didn't necessarily know on.
- 17:09Speaker 3: You know, Yeah, this these like love traying love was
- 17:13Speaker 3: very much you know, played up for the show, and
- 17:15Speaker 3: so it was you know, it was a shock and
- 17:17Speaker 3: and yeah, it was definitely a lot of ribbing from
- 17:20Speaker 3: my friends, like rightfully, so I deserved it, but yeah,
- 17:24Speaker 3: I just took it all and stride and just was
- 17:26Speaker 3: in denial for a while.
- 17:27Speaker 7: I think was was anybody? Yeah?
- 17:29Speaker 6: I was like, no one's really watched this is James's chance?
- 17:33Speaker 7: Did anyone that was giving it grief to begin with
- 17:36Speaker 7: end up coming around and being like, hey, get me
- 17:38Speaker 7: on the show.
- 17:39Speaker 6: The amount of dudes who were like it's so lame.
- 17:41Speaker 3: And then we were shooting season two and it was like, hey,
- 17:43Speaker 3: the cameras are going to be there, and they're like,
- 17:45Speaker 3: I don't care, Yeah, I'll be The amount of people
- 17:48Speaker 3: we went back after that my first semester of college
- 17:51Speaker 3: and we were starting to shoot season two and there
- 17:53Speaker 3: was a little like coming home parties, and suddenly a
- 17:56Speaker 3: lot of friends were down yeah there, like I want
- 17:59Speaker 3: to go show up on camera and they're doing little
- 18:01Speaker 3: stunts trying to like get a moment.
- 18:03Speaker 6: It was funny to see that.
- 18:04Speaker 1: How much time between Laguna Beach and then when you
- 18:07Speaker 1: came on a one tree hill.
- 18:10Speaker 6: So let's see here.
- 18:11Speaker 3: I stopped shooting my part in Lagoon and probably the
- 18:15Speaker 3: end of two thousand and four.
- 18:17Speaker 5: Oh wow, I love I love timestamps like this.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Yeah, actually sorry ended two thousand and five because it
- 18:21Speaker 3: was after my first year of college.
- 18:23Speaker 6: I finished in the spring.
- 18:24Speaker 3: I was done shooting lagun and by the end of
- 18:26Speaker 3: two thousand and five, and then yeah, I just I
- 18:30Speaker 3: was hosting, of course for MTV, doing TRL, and I
- 18:34Speaker 3: kind of noticed then I was like, look, I've been
- 18:36Speaker 3: taking some acting classes. That was more interesting to me
- 18:39Speaker 3: and I wanted to pursue that. It was about a
- 18:42Speaker 3: year and a half later that about two thousand and
- 18:45Speaker 3: seven is when I got on one trail. Yeah, it took.
- 18:49Speaker 6: It took a little while there.
- 18:50Speaker 3: There was an audition and went well, but then like
- 18:53Speaker 3: this isn't the role for you, but maybe maybe we'll
- 18:55Speaker 3: have you back. And I remember, you know, seeing James
- 18:57Speaker 3: and everyone else on the show and going like it's
- 18:59Speaker 3: actually somebody came on to TRL when I was hosting,
- 19:01Speaker 3: and I was like.
- 19:02Speaker 6: That would be a really cool show to work on.
- 19:04Speaker 6: I'd love to work on that show.
- 19:05Speaker 3: Actually, I did a movie with Hillary Burton too, and
- 19:08Speaker 3: she was talking about being in Wilmington where they shot
- 19:11Speaker 3: the show.
- 19:11Speaker 6: I was like, man, they got a good life down there.
- 19:13Speaker 6: That'd be cool.
- 19:14Speaker 7: Do you remember what the first role you auditioned for
- 19:17Speaker 7: was I don't think.
- 19:18Speaker 3: I don't and I don't know if it was dummy
- 19:20Speaker 3: sides like it was just something that they had, yeah,
- 19:23Speaker 3: just to see if I can actually act.
- 19:24Speaker 7: Or what that would be interesting to find that out on.
- 19:27Speaker 1: I feel like TV then is so different than TV
- 19:32Speaker 1: is now. Like I guess there are still some of
- 19:35Speaker 1: those shows and movies that have that like cult like following,
- 19:38Speaker 1: but I feel like not like they did back then.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Well, also without social media, Like I think that's the
- 19:44Speaker 2: testament of that time, was that it was just successful
- 19:48Speaker 2: because it was successful and people loved it. It didn't
- 19:50Speaker 2: really have the push of TikTok and Instagram. It was
- 19:53Speaker 2: just because people were fans of the show and they
- 19:56Speaker 2: got their weekly episode and went crazy trying to get more,
- 20:01Speaker 2: and so everything I'm sure felt even bigger for y'all
- 20:04Speaker 2: because I watched you know, you watch social media now
- 20:06Speaker 2: and there's not really that element of mystery around it
- 20:11Speaker 2: because we know everything. And then there's spoilers everywhere whereas
- 20:14Speaker 2: you used to go. I remember hunting for spoilers for
- 20:17Speaker 2: One Tree Hill, like what's gonna happen next?
- 20:19Speaker 6: Like the scenes from the net for the next episode that.
- 20:22Speaker 5: Was such all those you can't miss those.
- 20:25Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, that's true, that's wild. I mean I feel
- 20:29Speaker 7: like that's one thing that we were talking about when
- 20:32Speaker 7: we were formulating the idea for everyone who's doing great,
- 20:35Speaker 7: it was like what show were they going to be on?
- 20:37Speaker 7: Because when in twenty seventeen, when we first were thinking
- 20:42Speaker 7: this up, we were like, we need a show that's
- 20:44Speaker 7: like really big, like like we know, One Tree Hill
- 20:47Speaker 7: was like kind of you know, it is what it is,
- 20:49Speaker 7: but like it's got to be like Vampire Diaries or something.
- 20:51Speaker 7: It's got to be like huge.
- 20:53Speaker 5: I was getting like Twilight vibes, Yeah.
- 20:54Speaker 7: Something like that. There was also like the physical comedy
- 20:57Speaker 7: of like being able to do flashbacks of the I'm
- 21:00Speaker 7: like in their vampire makeup, like talking about what their
- 21:02Speaker 7: launch order is, you know. But also it was just like,
- 21:05Speaker 7: you know, it's got to be something that was like
- 21:06Speaker 7: this cultural sort of sensation that they really can't get
- 21:10Speaker 7: away from.
- 21:10Speaker 4: Right.
- 21:12Speaker 7: But something's happened in the last like between twenty seventeen
- 21:15Speaker 7: and even now where like the popularity of One Tree
- 21:18Speaker 7: Hill has I think grown probably exponentially, and it's been
- 21:23Speaker 7: doing this since we finished shooting the show. Like around
- 21:27Speaker 7: the time we finished shooting the show, I think Netflix
- 21:29Speaker 7: was just starting as like a streamer and One Tree
- 21:33Speaker 7: Hill was on it, and so we filmed One Tree
- 21:37Speaker 7: Hill and it was always like okay, yeah, it was
- 21:39Speaker 7: obviously enough people like it to keep us coming back, right,
- 21:43Speaker 7: But then we finished shooting, the show comes out on Netflix,
- 21:47Speaker 7: and we see each other again like a year later,
- 21:50Speaker 7: and it's like, are you getting recognized all the time everywhere?
- 21:54Speaker 7: It's like, yeah, what's going on? We just had no idea,
- 21:57Speaker 7: you know. Obviously it comes into focus over then few
- 22:00Speaker 7: years that it's because of streaming, and it's just I mean,
- 22:03Speaker 7: it is far more popular now than it was back then.
- 22:06Speaker 7: I mean, like I'm telling you, I mean I don't
- 22:09Speaker 7: know if you disagree, but like I there was not
- 22:13Speaker 7: any sort of i think broad recognition of it. I
- 22:16Speaker 7: think for like every one of our fans, there was
- 22:19Speaker 7: probably like five or six fans of you know, any
- 22:23Speaker 7: other show, any other team drama you can name that
- 22:26Speaker 7: was that was out there, that went for multiple seasons.
- 22:28Speaker 7: It was just a very very like passionate crowd. It
- 22:31Speaker 7: was a very passionate audience and and they like they
- 22:35Speaker 7: really showed up for us, So I think they had
- 22:37Speaker 7: like an outsized like impact in terms of like voice
- 22:40Speaker 7: on forums and things like that, and they showed up
- 22:43Speaker 7: to events that we went to. But in terms of
- 22:46Speaker 7: like its broad appeal, yeah, one hundred percent is IS
- 22:50Speaker 7: is far more successful than it was when we were
- 22:52Speaker 7: actually shooting the show.
- 22:53Speaker 4: That's amazing. Do y'all get residuals from that?
- 22:57Speaker 6: Uh supposed to? Well, we pay our sag dues for that.
- 23:02Speaker 7: Yeah, the streaming residuals look different than oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 23:07Speaker 7: but I mean the show. The show is definitely old
- 23:09Speaker 7: enough to where we had like a traditional syndication deal
- 23:12Speaker 7: on soap network after like we were in our fourth season,
- 23:16Speaker 7: so you know that was cool. But yeah, that that's
- 23:19Speaker 7: that doesn't happen really anymore.
- 23:20Speaker 2: So, Yeah, did you ever have moments because you your
- 23:24Speaker 2: Nathan and Haley had such a have such an extreme
- 23:27Speaker 2: fan base of people who shipped them, did you ever
- 23:32Speaker 2: have as an actor, did you ever wish there was
- 23:35Speaker 2: more conflict there and that you got to explore other
- 23:38Speaker 2: things or did you like the consistency of them always
- 23:41Speaker 2: being an ending up together?
- 23:43Speaker 7: Oh yeah, no, that's actually a really good question and
- 23:46Speaker 7: I don't think anybody's ever asked me that question, but
- 23:49Speaker 7: one hundred percent I would read the scripts, and I'm
- 23:51Speaker 7: sure Joy feels the same way we probably talked about it.
- 23:54Speaker 7: Like I remember reading the scripts and being like, oh, man,
- 23:58Speaker 7: really like disagree about anything anymore? You know, like after
- 24:02Speaker 7: a while it really became and look, it's great, Like
- 24:06Speaker 7: I love that they were like rock solid.
- 24:08Speaker 5: Yeah, you were steady Eddie for all of us watching.
- 24:11Speaker 7: I think that's really really cool. I but yeah, I
- 24:15Speaker 7: think that there was a bit of like fatigue in
- 24:18Speaker 7: terms of like seeing sort of the same scene play
- 24:20Speaker 7: out over and over again, because there's only so many
- 24:23Speaker 7: different versions of like that I think you can do.
- 24:26Speaker 7: But obviously, storytelling television it's all about conflict, right, It's
- 24:30Speaker 7: like the most interesting when there's some friction y and uh.
- 24:33Speaker 7: And it just felt extremely like friction lists for a
- 24:38Speaker 7: while towards the end. But you know, obviously that was
- 24:43Speaker 7: not like a huge issue or anything like that. I
- 24:45Speaker 7: just I remember the feeling of reading the script and
- 24:47Speaker 7: being like.
- 24:48Speaker 4: Oh, here we go again.
- 24:49Speaker 7: We could have disagreed.
- 24:50Speaker 1: That's so funny that it's so funny that you say that, though,
- 24:52Speaker 1: because so I like you when I was watching, like
- 24:55Speaker 1: you were like my boyfriend.
- 24:57Speaker 5: Like I was, like, I always thought it was controversial.
- 24:59Speaker 4: But it is a big deal for her, a big deal.
- 25:01Speaker 5: I got ready. My husband's like, are you ready for
- 25:03Speaker 5: your boyfriend?
- 25:06Speaker 1: But but because I think, like maybe subconsciously, I didn't
- 25:09Speaker 1: like Lucas. I was like a Nathan Scott person. And
- 25:12Speaker 1: I feel like I married a steady Eddie. I feel
- 25:15Speaker 1: like you subconsciously, like I wanted that from like seeing that,
- 25:20Speaker 1: I mean you shap.
- 25:25Speaker 4: No, yeah, shifting in his seat.
- 25:30Speaker 7: I'm wearing so much makeup. No, you can't see. No,
- 25:34Speaker 7: I get it though, you know, like I watched The Office,
- 25:37Speaker 7: like I love the Office, and and you know, Jim
- 25:40Speaker 7: and Pam. You know, I think it's it's it's it's
- 25:43Speaker 7: an amazing I know that feeling and and and I
- 25:47Speaker 7: know that that's why we love TV and we love
- 25:49Speaker 7: these characters. And so yeah, I mean, obviously I'm I
- 25:54Speaker 7: wasn't the writer on the show. I had no say
- 25:56Speaker 7: in any of that, and I didn't want any say
- 25:58Speaker 7: in any of that. They obviously knew what they were
- 26:00Speaker 7: doing because look what it did, you know. So it's
- 26:04Speaker 7: like my preference there as like an actor. There's a
- 26:08Speaker 7: reason they don't let actors write scripts most of the time.
- 26:10Speaker 5: I think, now you're doing both.
- 26:14Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, yeah, honestly, you know, that's like a line
- 26:17Speaker 7: that we have to walk, you know, and we want
- 26:20Speaker 7: to go for multiple seasons. We want to be doing
- 26:22Speaker 7: this for a while. Like we want the show to
- 26:23Speaker 7: evolve with like life and the things that we learn
- 26:27Speaker 7: personally in life, and it's designed to do that. And
- 26:31Speaker 7: so I think that like a question like that is
- 26:33Speaker 7: something that we are going to have to and we are,
- 26:36Speaker 7: we are already facing. It's like, all right, how much
- 26:39Speaker 7: getting along is too much getting along? Right? And like
- 26:41Speaker 7: and also how much disagreeting is too much disagreeing?
- 26:44Speaker 5: So yeah, how much chaos is too much chaos?
- 26:46Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 26:46Speaker 1: I can ask you a silly like in the Weeds
- 26:49Speaker 1: thing about so you guys, you direct, you act, you're
- 26:53Speaker 1: like kind of everything for this show. Since you're not
- 26:56Speaker 1: on Netflix, does that change anything? Do they have a
- 26:59Speaker 1: say or is it still you guys?
- 27:01Speaker 6: It's still it's still us.
- 27:02Speaker 3: So we're still an independent show because we licensed the
- 27:04Speaker 3: show to them, so they are not taking ownership. We're
- 27:06Speaker 3: not like a Netflix original.
- 27:08Speaker 5: Got It? Got It? So you still get to have
- 27:11Speaker 5: your voice, your vision.
- 27:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, we'd love to partner with Netflix and
- 27:14Speaker 3: Sony who actually is the one that got us into
- 27:17Speaker 3: Netflix there, they've been a great partner for us. We
- 27:21Speaker 3: want to have a partner where we can get a
- 27:22Speaker 3: little bit of a stronger budget so we could have
- 27:25Speaker 3: a little less stress and and and take off some
- 27:28Speaker 3: of the hats and spread the love around. But that's why,
- 27:31Speaker 3: and we're happy to do it, like we we enjoy
- 27:33Speaker 3: doing this because we get to make the show we want.
- 27:34Speaker 3: But a part of doing a lot of these roles
- 27:38Speaker 3: is so that we can keep our budget down and
- 27:41Speaker 3: spend more money on what's going on screen. So yeah,
- 27:45Speaker 3: but we're hoping, you know, season two goes well and
- 27:48Speaker 3: and and more people can talk about the show and
- 27:51Speaker 3: say that they enjoy it and tag those those big
- 27:53Speaker 3: partners like Netflix gives us a good chance to do that.
- 27:56Speaker 5: I could do that, appreciate it.
- 28:00Speaker 2: When you started Wontree Hill, were you one of the
- 28:03Speaker 2: I don't have memories of people someone going from reality
- 28:06Speaker 2: TV to a networks like one of the first.
- 28:10Speaker 6: I think there's there's been some folks that have done it.
- 28:13Speaker 3: I think maybe because Laguna was kind of a first
- 28:16Speaker 3: of its kind type reality show, the fact that we
- 28:19Speaker 3: were complete randoms and and.
- 28:22Speaker 6: Yeah, it's and so we kind of got to start there.
- 28:24Speaker 3: But there are people that have you know, the lines
- 28:26Speaker 3: have been blurred from from hosting into acting of course,
- 28:29Speaker 3: and that's similar.
- 28:31Speaker 6: So yeah, I don't think I was the first.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Can we shift a gear really fast? Just because I'm
- 28:37Speaker 1: also a huge Traders fan? Yeah, and you were on
- 28:40Speaker 1: this last season. I need to know how did you
- 28:45Speaker 1: not know Rob was a trader? Like I need to
- 28:49Speaker 1: know from somebody on the inside, how did you not
- 28:52Speaker 1: see it?
- 28:53Speaker 7: You know?
- 28:53Speaker 3: Well, I didn't know Rob going into it, so I
- 28:55Speaker 3: knew nothing about him. And from the jump he played
- 28:58Speaker 3: very quiet, and it was almost like he was like
- 29:01Speaker 3: somebody signed this, signed me up to be here, and
- 29:03Speaker 3: I was just like, I'm down.
- 29:04Speaker 6: I just didn't know anything.
- 29:05Speaker 3: So we kind of all came to our own conclusions
- 29:07Speaker 3: about you know, Rob was He's like, I'm a little
- 29:10Speaker 3: socially awkward to get, yeah, you know, quiet in groups,
- 29:13Speaker 3: and so from there it was like, all right, it
- 29:17Speaker 3: would be tough to see this guy wanting to be
- 29:18Speaker 3: a trader if he was already stepping outside of his
- 29:21Speaker 3: comfort zone to be on the show, because I could
- 29:22Speaker 3: relate to that coming into the show, I was stepping
- 29:24Speaker 3: outside my comfort zone. I wanted to play it safe
- 29:27Speaker 3: and be a faithful I pushed, I put that forward
- 29:29Speaker 3: from the jump.
- 29:30Speaker 6: So yeah, and he was.
- 29:32Speaker 5: We're an excellent faithful.
- 29:33Speaker 3: I feel Rob was also a really good faith He
- 29:37Speaker 3: was Yeah, and he had a lot of folks wrapped
- 29:40Speaker 3: around his finger and no one was looking. And it
- 29:42Speaker 3: wasn't until tera Actually Lipinski was telling me that. She
- 29:45Speaker 3: was like, it wasn't until we got you out and
- 29:47Speaker 3: we messed that up that Johnny and I really put
- 29:49Speaker 3: our heads together and said, oh wait a minute, it's
- 29:52Speaker 3: been right under our.
- 29:52Speaker 6: Nose this whole time.
- 29:53Speaker 3: Because also the way that Candice sold her throwaway vote
- 29:57Speaker 3: to Rob, it was she really It just looked like
- 30:01Speaker 3: she was trying to save Lisa and protect her traders,
- 30:03Speaker 3: so it's not like she was deflecting to another trader.
- 30:06Speaker 5: That that was when I lost it. I was like,
- 30:08Speaker 5: how is no?
- 30:09Speaker 3: We didn't know the behind the scenes fighting that was
- 30:11Speaker 3: going on there, and so it's it was, Yeah, nobody
- 30:14Speaker 3: was was onto him at at all. And you know
- 30:17Speaker 3: what I will say, because he put forth, it's like
- 30:20Speaker 3: very you know, socially awkward, kind of casual front. When
- 30:24Speaker 3: he was getting on the show and I got off it,
- 30:26Speaker 3: and I took like one look at his Instagram and
- 30:28Speaker 3: there's a lot of like the snakes, there's a lot
- 30:30Speaker 3: more personality. He's shirtless, he's very comfortable, and I'm like,
- 30:33Speaker 3: wait a minute, that's a different dude. Yeah, So give
- 30:37Speaker 3: him a lot of credit. He played that character very
- 30:39Speaker 3: well and he absolutely crushed it. So and as a viewer,
- 30:44Speaker 3: I mean the end, the ending moment between him and
- 30:47Speaker 3: Maura is devastating. That is, and that's the thing where
- 30:50Speaker 3: you know everyone has feelings for that very specific moment,
- 30:53Speaker 3: and and you know what you feel for Maura and
- 30:56Speaker 3: you feel for Rob. It's yeah, they do an incredible
- 30:58Speaker 3: job on that show and those two killed it. So
- 31:00Speaker 3: credit to them.
- 31:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:01Speaker 6: One, she got a burken back. I know she.
- 31:06Speaker 3: Was a victor and all of it. I told her
- 31:08Speaker 3: right away. She was so embarrassed. After we were doing
- 31:09Speaker 3: the reunion, we just watched the episode. She's like, oh
- 31:12Speaker 3: my god, I'm an idiot. I was like, we are
- 31:14Speaker 3: all idiots. Yeah, and you're not. You've You've come out
- 31:18Speaker 3: just fine.
- 31:18Speaker 1: That was a saving grace. Is I feel like everyone
- 31:21Speaker 1: that this season like we're idiots. So like I'm like,
- 31:23Speaker 1: I can't blame her.
- 31:25Speaker 3: I mean, I think I said it was like we
- 31:27Speaker 3: I said on the way out, as I said, you
- 31:29Speaker 3: blew it, I should have said, I blew it, you're
- 31:31Speaker 3: blowing it. But we deserved nothing as faithfuls.
- 31:35Speaker 2: How long because obviously I'm so competitive, so I when
- 31:38Speaker 2: you were like so upset and angry like you blew it.
- 31:42Speaker 4: I've related so much that because even though I know
- 31:45Speaker 4: it's a game and a.
- 31:46Speaker 2: TV show, I feel so betrayed in that moment. It
- 31:50Speaker 2: would take me a second to face those people again.
- 31:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, because you're so in the game when
- 31:55Speaker 3: you're there and the phones are taken away from you,
- 31:57Speaker 3: so that's your life while you're there, Right, You're really
- 31:59Speaker 3: locked into this game, and even though it is a game,
- 32:01Speaker 3: you know, you you don't have to take it too seriously.
- 32:03Speaker 6: At the end of the day, we're all here just
- 32:04Speaker 6: to have some fun.
- 32:05Speaker 3: But I'm a competitive person, so you know, in that moment,
- 32:08Speaker 3: you're you're you know, that competitive spirit's coming out, and
- 32:11Speaker 3: I'm I'm taking the l on the forehead and I'm like,
- 32:14Speaker 3: you know what, I can I honestly have myself to
- 32:16Speaker 3: blame through it as well. I I made some decisions
- 32:19Speaker 3: that ultimately cost me. So yeah, and I never knew
- 32:22Speaker 3: it was Rob.
- 32:23Speaker 4: Wow.
- 32:24Speaker 1: I know, like you said, everybody asked if one tree,
- 32:26Speaker 1: he'll people are friends, But I feel like you probably
- 32:28Speaker 1: made some actual friends on Traders, right, because that's like
- 32:31Speaker 1: you're you're like living life with them.
- 32:33Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I mean it's just this like very short
- 32:35Speaker 3: amount of time. It's like three weeks.
- 32:37Speaker 6: But yeah, I.
- 32:38Speaker 1: Would you ever ask any of them to be on
- 32:39Speaker 1: Everyone is doing great, like as like I do like
- 32:41Speaker 1: a little cameo.
- 32:42Speaker 3: Of course, I'd love to one hundred percent. You know,
- 32:46Speaker 3: seeing Michael Rappaport, he's an actor. It's in in a
- 32:49Speaker 3: couple of movies I've seen growing up that big fans
- 32:52Speaker 3: of so him as an actor of Ron Functious. I
- 32:55Speaker 3: think Ron is absolutely hilarious and he's done some great
- 32:58Speaker 3: acting as well. But there's there's such good personalities and
- 33:01Speaker 3: in that show that really you could pull a lot
- 33:03Speaker 3: of folks I think, and play a part version of themselves.
- 33:06Speaker 3: I mean, think about what you could do with Rob
- 33:08Speaker 3: and with Maura. Yeah, I mean Eric, now he's great. Yeah,
- 33:12Speaker 3: so uh, of course there'd be a lot of potential
- 33:15Speaker 3: there with all the personalities.
- 33:17Speaker 2: James, are you trying to dabble in reality?
- 33:24Speaker 7: I honestly like, I will watch the show. Of course,
- 33:27Speaker 7: I didn't watch. After you got voted off. I was like,
- 33:29Speaker 7: I'm not watching.
- 33:31Speaker 2: A loyal friend but not best friend.
- 33:33Speaker 7: I was angry.
- 33:34Speaker 6: A lot of people have told me that.
- 33:35Speaker 3: I was like, thank you, you didn't have to do that.
- 33:37Speaker 3: But it's funny that it shows the effect of the show.
- 33:40Speaker 7: Just what happened. It was the way it happened.
- 33:42Speaker 5: I understand go into.
- 33:44Speaker 7: It, but but I found myself like, like, you know,
- 33:49Speaker 7: walking around the house, like doing dishes or like in
- 33:51Speaker 7: the shower, just like thinking about how I would play
- 33:53Speaker 7: the game, you know, Like that's that's the effect that
- 33:56Speaker 7: it has on you, like you know, and and every
- 33:59Speaker 7: single time I caught myself doing it, I came to
- 34:01Speaker 7: the conclusion that I would be terrible at that game
- 34:05Speaker 7: and I should never go anywhere near it.
- 34:07Speaker 2: I think you could be a good Actually you're unassuming,
- 34:10Speaker 2: yeah you.
- 34:11Speaker 3: Might, and you're super smart, so you'd be able to
- 34:14Speaker 3: play a couple of steps.
- 34:15Speaker 7: Ahead incredibly off putting group social situations like and no
- 34:20Speaker 7: one would trust me from again?
- 34:21Speaker 6: You got you got the playbook from Rob?
- 34:23Speaker 3: You know, you're just like I'm sorry, guys, I'm just butting.
- 34:27Speaker 7: Like I'm like southern good boy, you know, like kicking
- 34:30Speaker 7: back like I don't. I don't have that charm.
- 34:32Speaker 1: I do feel like you guys are like you said,
- 34:34Speaker 1: good boy but like your men.
- 34:36Speaker 5: But like I feel like I was gonna say, you
- 34:38Speaker 5: guys are good boys.
- 34:40Speaker 1: You guys are good boys, but I feel like you
- 34:42Speaker 1: both are like really quality, solid men and like this
- 34:46Speaker 1: is gonna sound so like bad to say, but I
- 34:49Speaker 1: feel like coming from where you came from, and like
- 34:51Speaker 1: I imagine just having being on shows like that, like
- 34:55Speaker 1: your ego was probably like so big, but you don't,
- 34:59Speaker 1: you don't. You guys are so not like that in
- 35:01Speaker 1: real life. And I feel like you just seem like
- 35:04Speaker 1: good men that are married, like family men like you
- 35:08Speaker 1: No seriously and I saw.
- 35:11Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean yeah, look, I thank you, thank you
- 35:14Speaker 7: for saying that. And I think, you know, we definitely
- 35:19Speaker 7: like I had to learn a lot growing up, you know,
- 35:21Speaker 7: and I think we definitely tested defenses in different ways
- 35:25Speaker 7: as like as as like basically adolescents like growing up
- 35:31Speaker 7: on TV shows. It's just a weird place to grow up.
- 35:35Speaker 7: And like Steven said earlier, you know, there is this
- 35:37Speaker 7: saying that it's like the moment that you become famous
- 35:39Speaker 7: is the moment that you stop maturing. And so that's
- 35:42Speaker 7: not a good situation for people that are sixteen eighteen, right,
- 35:48Speaker 7: And so yeah, I think we had to learn some lessons,
- 35:51Speaker 7: and we had to learn some hard lessons and and
- 35:54Speaker 7: you know, ultimately like yeah, I mean we just we've
- 35:59Speaker 7: we've I think we've really tried to tell that story
- 36:02Speaker 7: as well through like everyone is doing greatness of like
- 36:04Speaker 7: you know, how to how to sort of graduate, like
- 36:09Speaker 7: how to graduate from a version of yourself that you're
- 36:11Speaker 7: not that you you understand is not the version that
- 36:15Speaker 7: you want to be.
- 36:15Speaker 6: Boy or real life.
- 36:17Speaker 3: I mean working on a show, having the privilege to
- 36:19Speaker 3: work on Wantree Hill for years and be out there
- 36:21Speaker 3: in Wilmington, great community took good care of us. It's
- 36:25Speaker 3: not real life ultimately for us, where you know, we are.
- 36:29Speaker 3: The way that things were on such a while taken
- 36:32Speaker 3: care of and it was only show shooting out there
- 36:35Speaker 3: at the time, so you know, folks around town really
- 36:38Speaker 3: looked after us and and you felt like you, you know,
- 36:42Speaker 3: had everything figured out at the day, like this could
- 36:44Speaker 3: go on forever, right, Like we're good.
- 36:46Speaker 6: This is a good life, but we got the job.
- 36:48Speaker 3: We're in a beautiful community, we're outside of LA we're
- 36:50Speaker 3: kind of living our own life. Then the show ends
- 36:52Speaker 3: and you go back to LA and you're getting back
- 36:55Speaker 3: into those auditions and your show up in rooms feeling
- 36:57Speaker 3: a little bit of a pressure of the expectation, and yeah,
- 37:00Speaker 3: those rooms can humble you pretty quickly. And that's that
- 37:03Speaker 3: little moment. We talked about this early on we were writing
- 37:06Speaker 3: the show, is some of those first auditions back when
- 37:08Speaker 3: there's no more show to fall back on before you
- 37:11Speaker 3: kind of you had a bad audition, whatever, We're going
- 37:13Speaker 3: to go back and shoot another season of this show. Now,
- 37:15Speaker 3: it's like, oh no, like that didn't go well today
- 37:18Speaker 3: and I have nothing else.
- 37:20Speaker 6: That's something we.
- 37:21Speaker 1: Talked about, you know, the pilot of you having sex
- 37:23Speaker 1: with a pillow while they're ordering Menosino farm salad.
- 37:28Speaker 5: I was like, this is like this industry is so crazy.
- 37:31Speaker 1: I could like see that happening in real life, you
- 37:34Speaker 1: know what I mean, Like you're like acting out your
- 37:36Speaker 1: scene and these people are like, what do you want
- 37:37Speaker 1: for lunch?
- 37:38Speaker 5: And I'm like, it's just so ruthless and cutthroat.
- 37:42Speaker 7: It's just like, truthfully, like that scene was the kernel
- 37:47Speaker 7: of like the show you know of it was. I mean,
- 37:51Speaker 7: it came from like a sort of amalgamation of or
- 37:55Speaker 7: experiences that we had, but it was not something that
- 37:59Speaker 7: was like out of like the realm of possibility. In fact,
- 38:02Speaker 7: that has happened to people that we know, that exact thing.
- 38:05Speaker 7: And there was, but there's also like an irreverence. It's
- 38:09Speaker 7: like it's yeah, humiliating, but there's also an a reverence
- 38:12Speaker 7: to it and the fact that you are willing to
- 38:14Speaker 7: do that right right, and like where are you in
- 38:16Speaker 7: your life that you're like I need this so and
- 38:21Speaker 7: I am so committed that I'm going to do this
- 38:23Speaker 7: right and and that's like just that push and pull
- 38:26Speaker 7: right there. We were like, this is a comedy, Like
- 38:29Speaker 7: this is this is not just a scene. This is
- 38:31Speaker 7: a comedy, This is a this is a story.
- 38:32Speaker 1: Season two Everyone is doing great premieres Monday, May eleventh
- 38:35Speaker 1: on Netflix. Everybody can check it out. I do want
- 38:38Speaker 1: to get to We have like so many fan questions
- 38:40Speaker 1: but they answered quite a few.
- 38:59Speaker 4: Can I just ask about the reboot, the One Tree
- 39:01Speaker 4: Hill reboot.
- 39:02Speaker 6: Honestly, you probably know more than us.
- 39:05Speaker 7: I think you need different guests here. Yeah, yeah, but yeaheah.
- 39:08Speaker 3: I mean it's in good hands with Sophia and Hillary
- 39:10Speaker 3: and Danil. I know they're leading the charge there. Yeah,
- 39:13Speaker 3: And honestly, I haven't gotten an update. I don't know
- 39:16Speaker 3: where it's at the in development development. As we talked
- 39:18Speaker 3: about earlier, it takes time. I think they're a little
- 39:20Speaker 3: disappointed that the news got out earlier than expected.
- 39:23Speaker 6: So yeah, we'll see, Okay, we'll see.
- 39:27Speaker 4: Kept that short and sweet.
- 39:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I was I want to ask one quick one
- 39:30Speaker 1: from one of our fans because she said, Marina for Steven,
- 39:34Speaker 1: she wants to know what it was like Van Taylor's
- 39:36Speaker 1: this music video for white Horse.
- 39:38Speaker 3: All right, First of all, him, Marina, thank you for
- 39:39Speaker 3: that question. I honestly loved being in that music video.
- 39:44Speaker 3: It was such a flash in the pan moment. I
- 39:47Speaker 3: was in Nashville for like seventy two hours. I remember
- 39:50Speaker 3: it was raining, is very moody time, and we shot
- 39:53Speaker 3: the video and that was that. And you could tell
- 39:56Speaker 3: just the whole process of even getting involved with it.
- 40:00Speaker 3: And after the fact that you know, Taylor was on
- 40:02Speaker 3: a rocket ship, you know, to a different universe. You
- 40:04Speaker 3: could just see. I really appreciated her story. I was
- 40:07Speaker 3: learning that she was writing songs as like, you know,
- 40:09Speaker 3: not only writing songs on her own, but like traveling
- 40:12Speaker 3: into Nashville and being paid to be a writer. And
- 40:15Speaker 3: I'm playing on all these shows around the country. It
- 40:17Speaker 3: was really cool to see. And yeah, and you know,
- 40:20Speaker 3: I'll tell you this story. I told her about my
- 40:22Speaker 3: cousins that were big fans of hers, and when we
- 40:27Speaker 3: were done with the music video, and and you know,
- 40:29Speaker 3: time had gone on. It must have been like a
- 40:31Speaker 3: year and a half later, and I got a call
- 40:33Speaker 3: one day. I remember, I was I'll never forget. I
- 40:35Speaker 3: was walking in New York City as a random number,
- 40:37Speaker 3: and back then you didn't get quite as many robo calls.
- 40:39Speaker 6: So I answered it. I was like, oh, who was
- 40:40Speaker 6: this today?
- 40:41Speaker 3: And it was Taylor and she's like, Hey, I'm playing
- 40:43Speaker 3: a show in LA And I know, I remember you
- 40:45Speaker 3: said your cousins would love to go to the show.
- 40:48Speaker 3: Do you want to give me their names and see
- 40:49Speaker 3: if they can make it? And I was like yes,
- 40:51Speaker 3: Like that is incredibly sweet. And they did and they
- 40:54Speaker 3: got backstage and everything, so that just speaks to the
- 40:56Speaker 3: kind of person that show.
- 40:57Speaker 4: Wow, that's amazing.
- 40:58Speaker 5: I'd love to hear it.
- 40:59Speaker 4: Wow. Well, I didn't know we were being.
- 41:04Speaker 5: So much time.
- 41:05Speaker 6: You got to get one for James question.
- 41:09Speaker 4: I've never met Taylor, do you want to?
- 41:14Speaker 2: Okay, if there was a plot on One Tree Hill
- 41:17Speaker 2: that you could change in your storylines, what would it.
- 41:20Speaker 7: Be a plot I could change? Oh, I mean would
- 41:24Speaker 7: Chase for sure? I mean I mean, selfishly, I get
- 41:29Speaker 7: why it was done. It went the other way because
- 41:32Speaker 7: of the story and it makes sense, but like selfishly,
- 41:35Speaker 7: I wanted Nathan to spend a little more time in
- 41:36Speaker 7: the n b A. I thought that would have been
- 41:38Speaker 7: really fun.
- 41:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree, that would have been better for you better.
- 41:41Speaker 2: Thank you guys, take time, Thank you guys for having
- 41:49Speaker 2: thanks for coordinating your outfits with me. And that was
- 41:58Speaker 2: my shirt and yeah, I just took pieces and did
- 42:03Speaker 2: what I needed to do. Season two of Everyone Is
- 42:06Speaker 2: Doing Great premieres Monday, May eleventh on Netflix.
- 42:08Speaker 4: Everyone goes support Yeah.
- 42:10Speaker 5: Support tag Netflix tag.
