- 0:00Speaker 1: This podcast is recorded on Gaddigle Land, Always was, always

- 0:13Speaker 1: is Two Boat Chicks, the show that shares life lessons
- 0:16Speaker 1: and tips to help make you rich in love? And
- 0:19Speaker 1: how's everyone's long weekend? You are? We do from the
- 0:23Speaker 1: post long weekend? I know, does everyone have the scaries?
- 0:28Speaker 1: Does everyone feel renewed? Did everyone need lots of chocolate?
- 0:32Speaker 1: I hope so? I know yield did? Oh? Absolutely? On
- 0:36Speaker 1: that note, we are going to be talking about the
- 0:39Speaker 1: mini glow ups that improve your week. You chicks know
- 0:44Speaker 1: we love cheeky little glow up, cheeky little refresh and
- 0:48Speaker 1: so do you chicks. Before we get into that, of course,
- 0:50Speaker 1: we have to discuss our obsessions of the week. We're
- 0:53Speaker 1: recording this on a Wednesday because of your long weekend vibes.
- 0:57Speaker 1: So I'm like, we hasn't even happened. I'm like, what
- 1:00Speaker 1: am I obsessed with? But I'm gonna throw a tea
- 1:02Speaker 1: fifth You're like, so on that though, on the sinking
- 1:06Speaker 1: sand of the ship that we are on the sinking
- 1:09Speaker 1: sand of the ship, I love it. I feel like
- 1:13Speaker 1: the coffee table book is just growing and growing. But
- 1:16Speaker 1: My obsession of the week is some very good news
- 1:20Speaker 1: I think for everyone in Australia, and it's that the
- 1:24Speaker 1: succulent Chinese meal man has been memorialized forever because that
- 1:31Speaker 1: speech has been added to Australia's national film and sound archives.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Shut up. Yeah, I love him, I know, and he
- 1:42Speaker 1: did pass away, but so yeah, what a great opportunity
- 1:47Speaker 1: way to remember an Australian icon. For all those who
- 1:51Speaker 1: don't recall, there was a very very viral YouTube video
- 1:56Speaker 1: that had a man who was wrongly arrested in a bar.
- 2:00Speaker 1: They thought he was like the head of some mob, yeah,
- 2:03Speaker 1: or like a drug cartel in Australia. And so he's
- 2:07Speaker 1: in this like Chinese restaurant. Absolutely peace. I was gonna
- 2:11Speaker 1: say that I indulged. Yeah, he absolutely sloshed, as the
- 2:16Speaker 1: king he is. And they go in and this like
- 2:20Speaker 1: FBI swat team go and get this man and drag
- 2:24Speaker 1: him out. And then these cameras are there because they
- 2:26Speaker 1: think it's this big operation, but they've got the wrong guy. Yeah,
- 2:30Speaker 1: And so they pull out this older gentleman and he's going,
- 2:33Speaker 1: what is the charge? Eating a meal? Eating a succular
- 2:37Speaker 1: Chinese meal? And then and then he's just he did
- 2:42Speaker 1: say an interview later on, like sixty minutes he was like, oh,
- 2:45Speaker 1: I started just like being a dickhead. Yes, and he goes, oh,
- 2:50Speaker 1: look at the headlock on this one because like the
- 2:52Speaker 1: police have him, and then he's going, get your hands
- 2:56Speaker 1: off my pinis. It is just so unhinged and so chaotic,
- 3:01Speaker 1: and in the interferiors no one had their hand not
- 3:04Speaker 1: my penis, no one, no one. No. Yeah, he was
- 3:08Speaker 1: just fucking with them because he knew that he had
- 3:10Speaker 1: been wrongly arrested. So it was like, what is going on?
- 3:12Speaker 1: And I don't know why it was filmed, but I'm
- 3:15Speaker 1: so glad it was. Oh and now it's a piece
- 3:19Speaker 1: of Australian history, truly an Australian history. I would put
- 3:23Speaker 1: that like above the bin chicken. Oh yeah, yeah, wow,
- 3:28Speaker 1: We've got so many good iconic like moments out of
- 3:32Speaker 1: Australia like that. Yeah, they came bounding out over those
- 3:39Speaker 1: twins who are essentially nice. It'll be next seriously like
- 3:46Speaker 1: Australian culture so like cooked, it's not even funny like
- 3:52Speaker 1: drop bears. I know, like we're so unserious. That's why
- 3:56Speaker 1: I'm almany part reak high because I feel like that
- 3:59Speaker 1: was one of the only shows I've seen recently actually
- 4:03Speaker 1: like tapped into it. Encapture the Esha gabbering, the guy
- 4:06Speaker 1: with the sign, the Newtown guy with the sign, like
- 4:09Speaker 1: the Rage music video so good. Ten out of ten yea.
- 4:13Speaker 1: My obsession of the week is, as you know, I
- 4:18Speaker 1: have my peaks and valleys of like at home beauty,
- 4:21Speaker 1: and I'll be like, yeah, I'll do that, or yeah
- 4:22Speaker 1: I'll do that because I just can't be bothered to
- 4:24Speaker 1: It comes from wan a cost efficient point of view,
- 4:27Speaker 1: and then also the fact that I'm like, I can't
- 4:29Speaker 1: be fuck to leave my house and go sit somewhere
- 4:31Speaker 1: for two hours, can be bothered to go sit and
- 4:33Speaker 1: do my ails for two hours and a sour on
- 4:34Speaker 1: cart be bothered to go get my eyebrows one for
- 4:36Speaker 1: two hours? Fit in has sound like I just want
- 4:39Speaker 1: to be at home watching Kelly. Yeah, totally. Anyway, I
- 4:42Speaker 1: bought these lash extensions off Amazon and they're ten out
- 4:46Speaker 1: of ten. I'm not saying they're good for my lashes,
- 4:49Speaker 1: because I'm sure they're probably not, Like I don't think
- 4:51Speaker 1: lash extensions are good for your lashes, but I'm like,
- 4:54Speaker 1: what's up? Piece a town pick your battles exactly. But
- 4:57Speaker 1: they were literally fifteen dollars for these like cluster lash
- 5:02Speaker 1: extensions that you put on like a little bond misca
- 5:05Speaker 1: thing on your lashes and then you just stick them
- 5:07Speaker 1: on as if you were putting on fake lashes, and
- 5:10Speaker 1: then use a ceilant and but being butta boom, you've
- 5:13Speaker 1: got lash extensions. It took me fifteen minutes. Yeah, they
- 5:16Speaker 1: look so good, Like it literally was so quick to
- 5:19Speaker 1: do it, and you get such a huge pack, and
- 5:21Speaker 1: especially with like you know, the price that I have
- 5:24Speaker 1: paid in the past for lash extensions, and I feel
- 5:26Speaker 1: like I was really able to customize it to like
- 5:29Speaker 1: how I like them. I was like, what's your uncle?
- 5:33Speaker 1: It is such an individual thing because sometimes I feel
- 5:36Speaker 1: like I did come out looking like Cindilu, who which
- 5:39Speaker 1: I always loved that I know you love that there's
- 5:42Speaker 1: a time and a place for Cindy Lou. It's true.
- 5:45Speaker 1: On that note, let's get into our mini glow ups.
- 5:51Speaker 1: So before we get into the episode, I wanted to
- 5:54Speaker 1: talk about this really interesting theory that I came across
- 5:58Speaker 1: in my research in the resuit, and it's kind of
- 6:01Speaker 1: why mini glow ups are really good to put into
- 6:06Speaker 1: your week because they restructure your perception and your feeling
- 6:09Speaker 1: of the week that you had. And it's called the
- 6:12Speaker 1: peak end rule. You're gonna love this. So the peak
- 6:17Speaker 1: and rule is a hack to basically have a good
- 6:19Speaker 1: week every week, or a good day every day, or
- 6:22Speaker 1: a good month, like a certain period of time that
- 6:24Speaker 1: when you look back, you go, yeah, that was that
- 6:26Speaker 1: was a good vibe. So the peak end rule states
- 6:29Speaker 1: that when we look back at an event or an experience,
- 6:32Speaker 1: our recollections and opinions are heavily influenced by what happened
- 6:36Speaker 1: at its peak intensity and at the end right right.
- 6:41Speaker 1: So for example, like let's say if we were going
- 6:43Speaker 1: to do a day and that day at work, you
- 6:45Speaker 1: had to have a meeting with like a colleague that's
- 6:47Speaker 1: really rude and you don't like them, and then on
- 6:49Speaker 1: the way home you miss the train or your bus
- 6:52Speaker 1: right right, So then you're out home and you're like,
- 6:55Speaker 1: I just had the worst day. I had this confrontation
- 6:58Speaker 1: with the colleague that I don't like, and I missed
- 7:00Speaker 1: the bus on the way home. You would then chalk
- 7:02Speaker 1: the rest of that day up to not being a
- 7:05Speaker 1: good day. When ninety percent of the rest of the
- 7:07Speaker 1: day was actually fine or even good, because our memories
- 7:10Speaker 1: also form like a large part of our behavior, and
- 7:13Speaker 1: of course negative experiences are a part of that because
- 7:17Speaker 1: that's also what like teaches our brain to be like no,
- 7:21Speaker 1: we don't like that, let's not do that again, or
- 7:24Speaker 1: like when that happens again, this is how I'm going
- 7:26Speaker 1: to do that differently. So I'm not saying like that's
- 7:29Speaker 1: just a racal negative experiences I have to miss the
- 7:32Speaker 1: bus and be like yeah, yeah, or being like okay,
- 7:34Speaker 1: like maybe I will organize myself a little bit earlier,
- 7:38Speaker 1: whatever it is, right, But we can also reframe this
- 7:43Speaker 1: theory to use it in a positive lens and kind
- 7:46Speaker 1: of like hack our weeks essentially, so by strategically placing
- 7:51Speaker 1: peaks aka micro glow ups or mini glow ups with
- 7:56Speaker 1: intention during and at the end of our weeks, we
- 8:00Speaker 1: can basically look back comfortably and consciously and be like, yeah,
- 8:03Speaker 1: I had a good week. So you don't need to
- 8:06Speaker 1: have the perfect day every day. You just need to
- 8:09Speaker 1: have a positive peak and a good ending. And that's
- 8:13Speaker 1: like I thought, that was just so interesting. And I
- 8:17Speaker 1: was talking to your friend yesterday who had like a
- 8:18Speaker 1: really rough day, like she just had a shit day,
- 8:21Speaker 1: And I was like, look, sometimes you just have to
- 8:23Speaker 1: blame it on the moon and be like that one
- 8:26Speaker 1: was not good. Ye have a foul mood. What twas that? Right?
- 8:30Speaker 1: But then I'm like then I say to her, But
- 8:31Speaker 1: I was like, but tomorrow or the next day, like
- 8:34Speaker 1: maybe go out with her boyfriend and go get ice
- 8:37Speaker 1: cream at that place that you really wanted to go to,
- 8:39Speaker 1: and then on Sunday do something really fun. So that way,
- 8:42Speaker 1: it's like you can kind of try to make a
- 8:45Speaker 1: different peak than she had. Yeah, exactly, Like the biggest
- 8:50Speaker 1: thing of the week wasn't wasn't the bad thing that happened.
- 8:53Speaker 1: It was a purposeful positive thing that you were like,
- 8:56Speaker 1: all right, this bad thing happened. So I need to
- 8:58Speaker 1: actually make a different peak. I need to reset something
- 9:02Speaker 1: or make something else happen and ensure I end my
- 9:05Speaker 1: Sunday with like a positive thing. So that way, when
- 9:08Speaker 1: I do my rule of thumb theory and I look
- 9:10Speaker 1: at the week in general, I'm looking at my peak
- 9:13Speaker 1: and my end in a positive lens. And again that's
- 9:16Speaker 1: not always going to be the case. Sometimes the moon's
- 9:19Speaker 1: just moaning. It's the moon is mooning, You'll be like, yeah,
- 9:23Speaker 1: chucking up, Yeah right, stack have fu with that one, motherfucker.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Yeah yeah. So Moon's like I'm an ethereal creature. I
- 9:33Speaker 1: never did that, do you know? I say good night
- 9:35Speaker 1: to the moon cute. When I get into bed, I
- 9:40Speaker 1: go night moon and give it a little kiss. I
- 9:43Speaker 1: don't know if that started from like the bear and
- 9:45Speaker 1: the Big Blue house. So that's who I was imagining.
- 9:48Speaker 1: But I wouldn't be mooning us because she was so sweet. Yeah.
- 9:53Speaker 1: I love saying good night to the moon. That's like
- 9:55Speaker 1: a little whimsy thing that I do. Oh, I love
- 9:58Speaker 1: every day And like sometimes I don't do it out loud,
- 10:02Speaker 1: Like if Rob's in the bed, I just like look
- 10:04Speaker 1: at them and give it a little Okay, So sau
- 10:08Speaker 1: hit me, what's your first mini glow up to improve
- 10:10Speaker 1: your week? Become a good conversationalist? Oh my god, don't
- 10:17Speaker 1: you reckon that? A lot of the time when we're
- 10:19Speaker 1: having convos during the week, whether it's like with our
- 10:21Speaker 1: work friends or even with our partners. When you get
- 10:24Speaker 1: home or the barista, it's just the same chat over
- 10:28Speaker 1: and over, and you sometimes get stuck in a loop
- 10:32Speaker 1: of asking the same questions. I have like a rolodex
- 10:35Speaker 1: of the same questions in adulthood, and we also have
- 10:37Speaker 1: a rolodex of the same answers. Like being busy is
- 10:41Speaker 1: basically a personality trait, which I do that all the time.
- 10:45Speaker 1: I always go, fuck, no, I shouldn't say that. I know.
- 10:49Speaker 1: I had that realization the other day that I'm like,
- 10:52Speaker 1: that's always my go to Yeah, busy, busy with work,
- 10:55Speaker 1: and I'm like, that's so bored, so worrying, like or
- 10:58Speaker 1: at least elaborate, like say what you've been busy with,
- 11:01Speaker 1: Like we're working on this and this is happening, yeah,
- 11:05Speaker 1: Like reframe it to be something a bit more interesting
- 11:08Speaker 1: and also something that someone can engage with, which is
- 11:12Speaker 1: one of the miniglow ups. Well, that is part of
- 11:14Speaker 1: the mini glow up and how to be a good
- 11:16Speaker 1: conversationalist and get out of that habit that I think
- 11:19Speaker 1: a lot of us are stuck in, which I don't
- 11:21Speaker 1: know if it's because that's just something that happens as
- 11:24Speaker 1: you grow up and you're like tired effort to put
- 11:27Speaker 1: into combo or if because we spend so much more
- 11:30Speaker 1: time now like chatting online and by digital mediums. But
- 11:33Speaker 1: there was this really interesting sub stack published by Bella Dane,
- 11:37Speaker 1: and the article was titled The Art of Conversation, and
- 11:42Speaker 1: she talked about how to make great conversation in the
- 11:45Speaker 1: modern era. So some of the I'll link the whole
- 11:50Speaker 1: article in the show notes so you can your chicks
- 11:53Speaker 1: can have a read. But some of the key takeaways
- 11:55Speaker 1: was letting go of the idea that you need to
- 11:58Speaker 1: say a lot in a conversation with people. The more
- 12:01Speaker 1: that you're speaking and taking on the conversation, the less
- 12:05Speaker 1: you're retaining. So it's like you're sort of just focused
- 12:09Speaker 1: on the things that you're saying and what you're going
- 12:11Speaker 1: to say next, rather than actually listening to what the
- 12:14Speaker 1: other person is saying. And because do you ever feel
- 12:16Speaker 1: the pressure to like fill in the silence, Yes, yeah, right,
- 12:22Speaker 1: and like that you always have to have like a
- 12:24Speaker 1: response or a question or something. But it's like you're
- 12:27Speaker 1: not actually giving yourself the space to think of something
- 12:31Speaker 1: that you actually want to ask or say. It's more
- 12:33Speaker 1: like an expectation that you put on yourself rather than
- 12:36Speaker 1: letting the conversation flow. And then so part of that
- 12:39Speaker 1: is letting people talk about themselves a lot. Of us,
- 12:43Speaker 1: I think, in a conversation will talk and then we
- 12:46Speaker 1: feel like we need to be like, oh, that happened
- 12:48Speaker 1: to me, and like jump in. When it is like
- 12:50Speaker 1: a relatability thing, a lot of us jump in and
- 12:53Speaker 1: will be like, oh my god, I know that happened
- 12:55Speaker 1: to me, or that reminds me of this because we're
- 12:56Speaker 1: trying to relate to the person. But then it it
- 13:00Speaker 1: means that you're not actually paying attention to what they're saying.
- 13:03Speaker 1: I think, of course you can still jump in, but
- 13:06Speaker 1: wait until they finish their story, because people do love
- 13:09Speaker 1: to talk about themselves, but you have to give them
- 13:12Speaker 1: the chance. So if you know that like that is
- 13:15Speaker 1: your tendency and that maybe you'll get excited and jump
- 13:18Speaker 1: in in those moments, maybe try and be a little
- 13:21Speaker 1: bit more present and be like, oh, hold on to
- 13:22Speaker 1: that thought, and once they finish, then I can jump
- 13:25Speaker 1: in and be like oh my god, Sam, and like
- 13:28Speaker 1: actually engage in that conversation with them, asking more interesting
- 13:31Speaker 1: and intentional questions, see how do we do that? Well,
- 13:36Speaker 1: what do you genuinely want to know? So, like if
- 13:40Speaker 1: somebody is if you're asking, like what are you doing
- 13:42Speaker 1: this weekend? And somebody tells you like, oh, I'm going
- 13:46Speaker 1: to see my cousin, and so I be like, oh,
- 13:49Speaker 1: where do they live, what do they do? Like blah blah.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Like actually ask follow up questions to have more of
- 13:55Speaker 1: a conversation rather than just leaving it there. Yeah, Or
- 13:59Speaker 1: if somebody is like, you know, just chilling at home,
- 14:02Speaker 1: you can be like, oh, well, what are you watching?
- 14:04Speaker 1: Are you reading anything at the moment? Or I need
- 14:06Speaker 1: a new podcast to listen to? Do you have any
- 14:08Speaker 1: REX for me? And like, actually have some of those
- 14:11Speaker 1: follow up questions kind of prepared in your mind, because
- 14:14Speaker 1: I think a lot of people as well they also
- 14:16Speaker 1: have those go to responses being like nothing, yeah, but
- 14:20Speaker 1: it's like you can't really go anywhere off of them.
- 14:22Speaker 1: But if you're genuinely interested in what they're doing, having
- 14:26Speaker 1: some of those follow up questions ready to go can
- 14:29Speaker 1: extend the conversation. Yeah, don't go on autopilot. So you
- 14:34Speaker 1: know when people ask how are you and you're always
- 14:36Speaker 1: just like fine, like actually say how you're feeling. I
- 14:39Speaker 1: also think it's okay to like also sometimes like the
- 14:43Speaker 1: best conversations are the ones you don't have, like it's
- 14:45Speaker 1: sitting in silence and like spending time with people because
- 14:49Speaker 1: I think part of the reason why conversations and maybe
- 14:53Speaker 1: we're not as good conversationalists is the fact that we
- 14:55Speaker 1: always feel like we have to have a conversation. So
- 14:58Speaker 1: when you're always talking to someone, and I think it's
- 15:02Speaker 1: a lot of the catch up conversation. Like one of
- 15:04Speaker 1: my long distance friends that it's now so easy to
- 15:08Speaker 1: talk to is because we just don't actually even talk
- 15:13Speaker 1: about our lives, Like we don't go how's work, how's
- 15:17Speaker 1: your partner, how's this going on? We're talking about like
- 15:20Speaker 1: the most random things that we've seen online. And there's
- 15:24Speaker 1: this thing that you can have in relationships called anchors. Yeah,
- 15:28Speaker 1: and so it's about like common interests that you can
- 15:30Speaker 1: use to fuel your conversations rather than relying on someone's
- 15:35Speaker 1: life or anything to be going on to be the
- 15:38Speaker 1: source of conversation. Because a lot of the time people
- 15:42Speaker 1: are really tired and they're like, what is going on
- 15:46Speaker 1: in my life? Like what I don't really know because
- 15:47Speaker 1: they've been on an autopilot, they've been in their head
- 15:49Speaker 1: work is crazy, and so they're like, oh, busy, or
- 15:53Speaker 1: I know I feel this that sometimes like I don't
- 15:55Speaker 1: want to talk about my life because I'm like, ah,
- 15:58Speaker 1: I just lived that day and I'm like, I can't
- 16:00Speaker 1: be bothered to like talk about that marketing meeting or
- 16:03Speaker 1: whatever that data thing I need to work on is
- 16:06Speaker 1: I'm like boring. So having anchors in friendship actually a
- 16:10Speaker 1: conversation fuelers that you can rely on to stimulate conversation
- 16:16Speaker 1: that actually has nothing to do with anyone. So that
- 16:19Speaker 1: way you don't fall into that trap of being like, oh, yeah,
- 16:22Speaker 1: that thing happened to me and then you're going, oh,
- 16:24Speaker 1: I actually wasn't. Okay, that's my story. So for example,
- 16:29Speaker 1: like we love RuPaul's Drag Race, so we'll talk about
- 16:32Speaker 1: like what happened that week on RuPaul's Drag Race, or
- 16:36Speaker 1: you know, one of the cheeks that works with us
- 16:38Speaker 1: on the pod, we both love Secret Lives of Mormon
- 16:40Speaker 1: Wives and we've been really diving into that every week,
- 16:44Speaker 1: and I'm like, that is just the easiest thing to
- 16:48Speaker 1: and have such a fun, engaging conversation with someone. Or
- 16:51Speaker 1: if you both love the same type of books, like
- 16:54Speaker 1: you can talk about that, like find anchors within your
- 16:57Speaker 1: friendships to help center and fuel conversations beyond being like
- 17:02Speaker 1: how was your week? I'm not saying, don't ask how
- 17:05Speaker 1: was your week, because that's also important to know. But
- 17:08Speaker 1: I can't be asked to like go on and backtrack
- 17:11Speaker 1: like what I did did the last seven days, because
- 17:13Speaker 1: I'm like I already did that. I'm moving on. Yeah,
- 17:15Speaker 1: exactly past there. I didn't even know. I can't tell
- 17:17Speaker 1: you what I have a dinner last night. I can
- 17:19Speaker 1: it was pasta. But it's always a safe bet. Yeah, yeah,
- 17:23Speaker 1: And it also then gives you the motivation to if
- 17:26Speaker 1: it is tied to a show or a book or
- 17:28Speaker 1: whatever it is, like every week, you know, on like
- 17:31Speaker 1: a Sunday morning, you would have watched through Paul's drag.
- 17:33Speaker 1: You said, that's the time that you'll be like A, right,
- 17:35Speaker 1: what did you think? Yeah, because especially with friends like
- 17:39Speaker 1: that that you don't get to see in person all
- 17:41Speaker 1: the time. And then exactly like you said, those questions
- 17:45Speaker 1: about how is your week or how is this thing?
- 17:47Speaker 1: Like I know you had this interview, those will come
- 17:49Speaker 1: in naturally as well. But then you also have a
- 17:52Speaker 1: mutual interest that you can talk about. I saw on
- 17:54Speaker 1: TikTok this chick was saying that she does this thing
- 17:58Speaker 1: with her friends called waffle Wednesdays. Oh, I think we've
- 18:01Speaker 1: tatted about this on the pore and they send each
- 18:03Speaker 1: other just like voice notes, Yeah, or like Wednesday is
- 18:07Speaker 1: that anchor day for them, and they'll just like use
- 18:09Speaker 1: it to talk about whatever they want, but they know
- 18:11Speaker 1: it's basically when they're exchanging their weekly podcasts with each other. Yeah,
- 18:15Speaker 1: which I think is a really cute idea too. But
- 18:17Speaker 1: on that note, about like the pressure to have conversation
- 18:20Speaker 1: when you are having a conversation with someone, also remember
- 18:24Speaker 1: that you can take a breath before you respond, and
- 18:27Speaker 1: that there's allowed to be dead air in a conversation.
- 18:31Speaker 1: You don't have to like jump in with the first
- 18:33Speaker 1: thing that springs to your mind because you feel like
- 18:35Speaker 1: it's going to be awkward or Yeah, the pressure to
- 18:37Speaker 1: keep it flowing, Like take a breath and remember that
- 18:40Speaker 1: you can take a moment to actually collect your thoughts
- 18:44Speaker 1: so that you can ask those intentional questions or whatever
- 18:48Speaker 1: is going to propel a more meaningful conversation. Yeah, And
- 18:52Speaker 1: I do think that's helpful reminders because like, as someone
- 18:54Speaker 1: with like a bit of a sparkly brain, a lot
- 18:57Speaker 1: of those things are not necessarily things that you know
- 19:01Speaker 1: everyone notes or thinks of and control. Yeah, like a
- 19:05Speaker 1: lot of people that are neurodivergent, their way of having
- 19:09Speaker 1: conversations and relating to people is telling a story about themselves,
- 19:12Speaker 1: or when they get excited, they do interrupt people when
- 19:14Speaker 1: they're talking, and I don't think that makes them, you know,
- 19:17Speaker 1: a bad conversational list. And I know that's not what
- 19:19Speaker 1: you're saying either. Yeah, but it's just also finding the
- 19:21Speaker 1: ways to kind of make conversations more fun and less
- 19:24Speaker 1: routine in terms of integrating this into your weekly rituals,
- 19:29Speaker 1: also bookending your day with check ins. In a relationship,
- 19:33Speaker 1: so if it is with your partner or your roommate,
- 19:36Speaker 1: or even like your sister if you guys don't live together,
- 19:40Speaker 1: ask questions at the end of every day, even if
- 19:43Speaker 1: it is the same one, like what was your peek
- 19:45Speaker 1: and pit of today or your childlight of the day? Yeah,
- 19:48Speaker 1: or like what are you grateful for today? Whatever you
- 19:51Speaker 1: want to do, or even just like my sister and
- 19:54Speaker 1: I say good night and good morning to each other
- 19:56Speaker 1: every single day, and sometimes we'll talk to each other
- 19:59Speaker 1: throughout the day and ask each other questions or give
- 20:01Speaker 1: each other updates, but at the bare minimum, we always
- 20:04Speaker 1: say yeah, good morning and good night. That's so cute.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Good that moon. Okay, my next miniglow up to improve
- 20:14Speaker 1: your week is they leave the house better rule. So
- 20:18Speaker 1: this is the one rule to make your life feel
- 20:20Speaker 1: like ten times more together. And it literally takes two minutes,
- 20:24Speaker 1: and it's less about productivity and more about momentum and
- 20:28Speaker 1: like fabulous, Yeah, someone who's running on all cylinders basically
- 20:32Speaker 1: ninety nine percent of the day. Yeah, And it's essentially
- 20:36Speaker 1: before you leave the house, do one thing that future
- 20:39Speaker 1: you will benefit from. So empty the dishwasherup, put on
- 20:43Speaker 1: a load of washing, wiping down the bench, cleaning the
- 20:45Speaker 1: bathroom after getting ready, still working on that one, taking
- 20:49Speaker 1: something out to like defrost from the freezer. And it's
- 20:52Speaker 1: like you don't have to do all of those things,
- 20:54Speaker 1: it's just doing one of them. Yeah, so before you
- 20:57Speaker 1: leave that when you come in the door, oh so
- 21:01Speaker 1: glad I did that. That's done. Or like even just
- 21:03Speaker 1: making your bed in the morning, Like it's the smallest
- 21:06Speaker 1: shift from being reactive to proactive. So that way you
- 21:09Speaker 1: don't come in and you go, I've got to do that.
- 21:11Speaker 1: I've got to do that. I've got to do that. I've
- 21:12Speaker 1: got to do that, and you'll get to the end
- 21:14Speaker 1: of the week and you kind of come home to
- 21:16Speaker 1: a life that's slightly handled and you're like, good job
- 21:20Speaker 1: whoever was on that shift. Yeah, yeah, literally, and it's
- 21:25Speaker 1: like you don't need a full reset, but it's just
- 21:28Speaker 1: a little thing because one you're also gonna get the
- 21:30Speaker 1: fabulous little sexy dope for me in head of like
- 21:33Speaker 1: doing that one task before you leave. But it's like
- 21:37Speaker 1: putting a pretty little note on the door being like
- 21:40Speaker 1: leave the house better, as like a reminder me, like
- 21:43Speaker 1: do you know what did I'll go chuck the dishwasher
- 21:45Speaker 1: on quickly like whatever it is that takes five minutes.
- 21:48Speaker 1: If that you go, oh, I'm glad I did that,
- 21:51Speaker 1: because it's nice to come in and walk into when
- 21:54Speaker 1: you get home. And I saw this like rule or
- 22:01Speaker 1: hack if you will, and it's called the five five
- 22:05Speaker 1: five decluttering Rule. Ooh, like you're going to enjoy this
- 22:10Speaker 1: and it's basically a twenty five minute life hack that
- 22:12Speaker 1: will change your life. And you set a timer for
- 22:15Speaker 1: five minutes, focus on five different zones or areas like kitchen, counter, entryway,
- 22:23Speaker 1: junk draw, bathroom, cabinet, bedside, table, bookshelf, whatever you want,
- 22:29Speaker 1: and then remove five items or clean five things from
- 22:33Speaker 1: each zone. But you've got a total of twenty five
- 22:36Speaker 1: minutes to just do a little declutter, and over time
- 22:41Speaker 1: the compound interest of that task, you'll end up being like, ah,
- 22:46Speaker 1: my house clean. Yeah. I like that. That reminds me
- 22:50Speaker 1: of something that I've seen online called chore snacking, which
- 22:52Speaker 1: is essentially the same concept of breaking up your chores
- 22:56Speaker 1: into those micro manageable bites so that you're not leaving
- 23:01Speaker 1: an entire deep clean for the weekend every single weekend.
- 23:05Speaker 1: It just makes it so much easier to stay on
- 23:08Speaker 1: top of it. And I actually saw this article that
- 23:10Speaker 1: was published in Stylists and they were talking about chork
- 23:14Speaker 1: snacking with a psychologist and she was saying that because
- 23:18Speaker 1: you're using short bursts of energy when you're doing chor
- 23:22Speaker 1: snacking or like the is it the five five five yes? Five? No,
- 23:27Speaker 1: five five five five yeah? Yeah, whether you're doing chork
- 23:32Speaker 1: snacking or the five five five method, you're using those
- 23:36Speaker 1: short bursts of energy and you're not relying on like
- 23:40Speaker 1: long term momentum to get stuff done, which is what
- 23:43Speaker 1: happens when, like you know, on a Sunday wordrobe cleaner,
- 23:48Speaker 1: you literally have like one cowboy boot on a sparkly fedora.
- 23:53Speaker 1: You're reading a letter from a journal that you wrote
- 23:55Speaker 1: in your password locked diary from when you're eleven, going
- 23:58Speaker 1: this is good stuff. Yeah exactly, i'maublish this and like
- 24:01Speaker 1: surrounded by coat hangers and like clothes that you're like,
- 24:03Speaker 1: fuck and you like have pulled everything out and you're like, well,
- 24:06Speaker 1: I have fun looking at everything. Then you gotta put
- 24:08Speaker 1: it all away and you're like, what have I done? Yeah,
- 24:10Speaker 1: and you're like, I have no motivation to do that.
- 24:12Speaker 1: It's actually is study. I can't remember what it is,
- 24:16Speaker 1: but we'll have to put in the show netes for something,
- 24:17Speaker 1: and it's it is actually the amount of time you
- 24:20Speaker 1: have before you lose interest in a deer clutter. Oh
- 24:24Speaker 1: and fuck me, have I not hit that a billion
- 24:26Speaker 1: times in my life? No, I'm surprised we don't recognize
- 24:29Speaker 1: the patten. I like, I feel like the five five
- 24:31Speaker 1: five for me since I'm not a morning person. That's
- 24:33Speaker 1: like when I get home, like that twenty five minute.
- 24:36Speaker 1: I have a reminder set at seven pm every day
- 24:41Speaker 1: to like do my mini apartment clean, and I just
- 24:44Speaker 1: like put things away because when I walk in the
- 24:45Speaker 1: door I'm really like a full shed shoes off, jack
- 24:49Speaker 1: it off, lay on the couch two minutes. Yeah, you've
- 24:51Speaker 1: got to do it. Yeah. And then I have like
- 24:53Speaker 1: the little thing being like do you twenty five minute clean?
- 24:55Speaker 1: And I'm like easy done, Thanks Maleka, thanks Schmelexa. I
- 25:01Speaker 1: real queen that one. Yeah she is. We owe her
- 25:03Speaker 1: so much. She's pa. Okay. One of my go to
- 25:08Speaker 1: mini glow ups to make my week better is to
- 25:11Speaker 1: pay off my sleep debt. Ooh yeah. So I just
- 25:17Speaker 1: think that like whenever I'm having a bad week or
- 25:19Speaker 1: feeling a bit met like a good night's sleep is
- 25:22Speaker 1: honestly the absolute cure. And I know that seems really
- 25:26Speaker 1: really obvious. So I'd heard about sleep debt before, right,
- 25:30Speaker 1: or like the concepts of sleep debt, but I didn't
- 25:31Speaker 1: really know what it was or how to calculate her
- 25:34Speaker 1: or what it really meant. And then recently, because I
- 25:37Speaker 1: wear an or a ring, they've introduced a new feature
- 25:40Speaker 1: in there as part of your sleep analytics that is
- 25:43Speaker 1: your sleep debt, and it calculates like what your sleep
- 25:48Speaker 1: debt is and puts it in like a I guess,
- 25:51Speaker 1: a chart of like low, moderate and bad danger danger zone.
- 25:56Speaker 1: But you're even a girl, you're a bad girl. But
- 25:59Speaker 1: even if you don't have of like a health ring
- 26:01Speaker 1: or some sort of tech that tracks your sleep debt
- 26:04Speaker 1: for you, there is a way that you can do
- 26:06Speaker 1: it yourself. Essentially, you just calculate how much sleep that
- 26:08Speaker 1: you need. So usually for most people that would be
- 26:11Speaker 1: between like seven to nine hours a night. Then multiply
- 26:16Speaker 1: that by the period if you're doing it over like
- 26:19Speaker 1: seven days or two weeks, if you want to get
- 26:22Speaker 1: like an idea of how much sleep you're actually getting,
- 26:25Speaker 1: then at the end of the week or the fortnight,
- 26:28Speaker 1: look back on how much you actually slept. So maybe
- 26:31Speaker 1: every morning, like write down in a notepad or in
- 26:33Speaker 1: your notesapp how much sleep you actually got that night.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Then you would minus how much sleep you actually got
- 26:41Speaker 1: from your goal sleep and then that's your sleep debt.
- 26:44Speaker 1: So for example, like if you want to sleep nine
- 26:48Speaker 1: hours a night, but then you only slept six your
- 26:50Speaker 1: sleepday is three hours. Yeah, so then you know that
- 26:54Speaker 1: in the coming days you need to factor in three
- 26:57Speaker 1: additional hours of sleep to get on top of it.
- 27:00Speaker 1: And so that's what I've been trying to do. Even
- 27:02Speaker 1: just on the weekends, if I can. So if I
- 27:05Speaker 1: can see my sleep debt is an hour, then I'll
- 27:09Speaker 1: be like, Okay, I'm going to make sure I go
- 27:10Speaker 1: to bed an hour earlier, or I'm going to set
- 27:12Speaker 1: my alarm an hour later to factor that in and
- 27:16Speaker 1: actually being more conscious of that. So yeah, like don't
- 27:20Speaker 1: set an alarm sleep in on weekends, like actually make
- 27:23Speaker 1: the time to go to bed early, because around forty
- 27:26Speaker 1: percent of Australians don't get the adequate amount of sleep
- 27:29Speaker 1: that they actually need, which is a lot, and they
- 27:33Speaker 1: Obviously sleep is like such an individual thing and there's
- 27:36Speaker 1: so many different rituals that can help you with your
- 27:39Speaker 1: sleep hygiene. But some of the things I feel like
- 27:42Speaker 1: has helped me because that's been like a focus for
- 27:44Speaker 1: me this year. And you said, just sleepy Gil now
- 27:48Speaker 1: the mornings is like a real princess p that's like,
- 27:56Speaker 1: I really hate waking up. It doesn't matter how much
- 27:58Speaker 1: sleep I get, it's just it's the cute as saying
- 28:01Speaker 1: in the world, it's just how I am. But we
- 28:03Speaker 1: need to prioritize our sleep in the same way that
- 28:06Speaker 1: we do anything else else routine. Once you start prioritizing
- 28:11Speaker 1: it and feeling the benefits of it. I think that
- 28:13Speaker 1: makes it easier and easier to get into more instead
- 28:16Speaker 1: of prioritizing it more. Because like, for example, this year,
- 28:20Speaker 1: like we've been sleeping, like I've been sleeping without my
- 28:22Speaker 1: phone in my room, yeah, and been like oh and
- 28:24Speaker 1: I put it on charge and I've like fallen in
- 28:27Speaker 1: and out of it, But oh my god, like the
- 28:30Speaker 1: difference it makes actually then keeps it going and keeps
- 28:35Speaker 1: that momentum. It's like when the fit people and they go, oh,
- 28:39Speaker 1: I didn't Actually when someone who like never used to
- 28:42Speaker 1: work out and they like get really into working out,
- 28:43Speaker 1: they go, oh, I realized how good it made me feel.
- 28:46Speaker 1: And you would get addicted to actually the result of
- 28:48Speaker 1: the feeling rather than the action itself. And like that's
- 28:53Speaker 1: how you prioritize things that are good for you, such
- 28:56Speaker 1: as sleep is like actually focusing on the fact that
- 29:00Speaker 1: you know, you do feel better during the day, you
- 29:02Speaker 1: do feel more alert, you do actually feel happier and
- 29:06Speaker 1: less like irritable when you have and prioritize your sleep,
- 29:10Speaker 1: and so identifying those things that kind of get you
- 29:12Speaker 1: to that result, I do think helps prioritize it a
- 29:15Speaker 1: little bit more. Yeah, exactly, And because the quality and
- 29:19Speaker 1: quantity of your sleep is just as important as the consistency,
- 29:23Speaker 1: so aiming to have the same routine every single day. Obviously,
- 29:28Speaker 1: the sleep debt thing is helpful for those nights when
- 29:30Speaker 1: you have had a shit sleep or you haven't gotten enough,
- 29:33Speaker 1: and knowing where you need to maybe step it up
- 29:36Speaker 1: a little bit to get more, or how you can
- 29:37Speaker 1: factor that in. But the goal is to go to
- 29:40Speaker 1: bed and wake up at the same time every single
- 29:43Speaker 1: day and to get like an adequate amount in that time. Yeah,
- 29:47Speaker 1: and you don't need to buy a bunch of things
- 29:49Speaker 1: for it. We have an episode that we can link
- 29:51Speaker 1: in the show notes about like how to have a
- 29:53Speaker 1: good sleep and you don't need to like buy a
- 29:56Speaker 1: bunch of things, And honestly, like you probably don't even
- 29:58Speaker 1: need to go and buy a health track to get
- 30:00Speaker 1: a good sleep, Like listen to your body and exactly
- 30:03Speaker 1: if you feel tired, you go to bed earlier. Yeah, yeah,
- 30:08Speaker 1: stop reading your smarty little book on your kindle to bed.
- 30:12Speaker 1: That one's for me. I'm like, but the enemies just
- 30:14Speaker 1: became lover of sleeps. Just been three hundred pages and
- 30:18Speaker 1: they just dished. Okay, My next one is a ritual
- 30:25Speaker 1: a beautiful moment that I think every girl listening to
- 30:30Speaker 1: this can recognize. And it's the midweek lower Ooh, it's
- 30:35Speaker 1: the midweek glob aka the fresh start effect, because your
- 30:39Speaker 1: nervous system has been reacting to emails, switching between tasks,
- 30:45Speaker 1: processing social interactions, sitting inside on screens under pressure, and like,
- 30:51Speaker 1: I will easily get to like midweek and I'll be like,
- 30:54Speaker 1: I feel like a frog. Yeah, you know. But in
- 30:59Speaker 1: my little tappy tappy on my keyboard. For the research
- 31:02Speaker 1: of this episode, I've discovered the midweek glop is actually
- 31:07Speaker 1: good for your nervous system. Oh, it's good for your health.
- 31:10Speaker 1: And so I'm locked in. My motivation is there because
- 31:13Speaker 1: I'm with you, and I'm like, I can't be fucked
- 31:16Speaker 1: to have the everything share and I don't want to
- 31:19Speaker 1: shave and do my bakedan and wash my hair. I
- 31:21Speaker 1: think I wringe about that seventy two times a week
- 31:24Speaker 1: at least. But the midwek lop is good for your
- 31:28Speaker 1: nervous system because it activates your and bear with me here,
- 31:32Speaker 1: parasympathetic nervous system, which is a division of the autonomic
- 31:37Speaker 1: nervous system that acts as the body's rest and digest
- 31:40Speaker 1: system take a shot every time. I just said system,
- 31:44Speaker 1: which is like calming it down after stress. So it's
- 31:48Speaker 1: like the yeah, pat your bot bot snuggle you in kita. Yes,
- 31:53Speaker 1: that system. So it's activated through certain types of steps
- 31:58Speaker 1: in the glow up ritual like long showers, warm water,
- 32:03Speaker 1: slow skin care and body care. So you're literally activating
- 32:08Speaker 1: like calm mode to your body through your midweek lower Yeah,
- 32:14Speaker 1: it's like a physical reset, yes, being like okay, brain, yes,
- 32:19Speaker 1: this is the sign It's not about your brain. Yeah,
- 32:22Speaker 1: it's not about your brain, but yet literally it's signaling
- 32:24Speaker 1: to your brain that we're in calm mode through like
- 32:26Speaker 1: warm water, repetitive and gentle actions like shaving, moisturizing, doing
- 32:33Speaker 1: your ten, except for when you have to like dislocate
- 32:36Speaker 1: your shoulder to get the top backbit, don't worry about that.
- 32:38Speaker 1: Won't focus on that bit too much. That's fine. Ah,
- 32:41Speaker 1: But those things in that process, or like washing your
- 32:44Speaker 1: hair and putting your fingers in your hair are all
- 32:46Speaker 1: very like calming rituals, And because it uses rhythmic and
- 32:52Speaker 1: repetitive actions, that's what calms your brain. Because glow ups
- 32:56Speaker 1: often also follow a sequence. Oh, it's all coming to
- 33:01Speaker 1: get it out. I've got like the red string being
- 33:04Speaker 1: like and the start is like you was a frog
- 33:07Speaker 1: and yeah, your majesty is exhausted. Yeah, took this and
- 33:12Speaker 1: this and he gave you axisen yes, because they follow
- 33:15Speaker 1: a sequence and off is like often it's like you know, shampoo, condition, exfoliate, shade, tan,
- 33:21Speaker 1: whatever it is, and repetitiveness and predictability. Those actions are
- 33:27Speaker 1: also known to be calming because they reduce uncertainty, give
- 33:31Speaker 1: your brain something steady to focus on, and they also
- 33:34Speaker 1: interrupt racing thoughts, which is the final piece of this
- 33:38Speaker 1: entire puzzle. I'm really taking all the day. I was
- 33:40Speaker 1: having so much hum when I was ready for all
- 33:42Speaker 1: They're like wow. I literally was like, everything shower isn't
- 33:46Speaker 1: it vanity. It's fixing my brain chemistry. Everything shower isn't vanity.
- 33:51Speaker 1: It's literally fixing your brain and telling your brain like you.
- 33:54Speaker 2: Are safe, Yeah you are beautiful, but yeah, so it
- 34:01Speaker 2: interrupts racing thoughts, similar to things like knitting, walking, or
- 34:04Speaker 2: even cleaning.
- 34:05Speaker 1: It's because your brain and your you yourself, remove yourself
- 34:10Speaker 1: from your head and put yourself in your body. And
- 34:14Speaker 1: so like Grace was saying yes, so it's actually this
- 34:17Speaker 1: thing called interroception, and it's basically your awareness of your body,
- 34:23Speaker 1: and it's strongly linked to emotional regulation because when you
- 34:26Speaker 1: shift attention back into your body, your thoughts tend to
- 34:29Speaker 1: quiet down naturally. So that's why they do often recommend,
- 34:34Speaker 1: like even in therapy and things like that, that if you,
- 34:37Speaker 1: you know, are spiraling, if you're having a lot of
- 34:40Speaker 1: anxious thoughts, if you're like that, like that kind of life,
- 34:44Speaker 1: to have a shower or go for a walk or
- 34:48Speaker 1: have a midweight glower. Yeah, because also not only you're
- 34:53Speaker 1: not sad, but you're hot too. And with that, I'm
- 34:57Speaker 1: signed up for happy and hot. M oh fabulous, give
- 35:03Speaker 1: me twenty four of them. I want all of that.
- 35:05Speaker 1: And also then it just was reminding me of that
- 35:08Speaker 1: fact that we love that you are twenty percent hotter
- 35:12Speaker 1: to everyone else, Like everyone else sees you twenty percent
- 35:14Speaker 1: hotter than you think you are, which I was like,
- 35:18Speaker 1: so imagine you do your midwig lab and you're like,
- 35:21Speaker 1: that's good work for me. Add twenty percent hot GST
- 35:24Speaker 1: to that. And then even on the days that you're
- 35:27Speaker 1: like fuck, bit rough, you're still twenty percent hotter than
- 35:33Speaker 1: how rough you think you are the hot tax. Yeah,
- 35:36Speaker 1: the hot tax, but like you don't pay it. Yeah,
- 35:39Speaker 1: you're just hot, You're just reaping the dividends. Yes, And
- 35:43Speaker 1: I don't want to hear any she about hair life.
- 35:45Speaker 1: It's not about being hot. When you look good, you
- 35:47Speaker 1: feel good, and that's all that is exactly. That's why
- 35:50Speaker 1: this episode is that it's not all about that. But
- 35:54Speaker 1: come on, don't lie to me, you know, and you
- 35:57Speaker 1: feel good, you're walking out kicking a door off its hinges.
- 36:01Speaker 1: Because even know if that was English then but how
- 36:04Speaker 1: like are you like, I'm gonna go home, I'm gonna
- 36:07Speaker 1: wash my hair, do my tin, and I'm gonna wear
- 36:09Speaker 1: something that I really like tomorrow. Yeah, because the midweek,
- 36:13Speaker 1: like everything, shower form, it feels like a chore. But
- 36:17Speaker 1: we need to reframe it as a ritual. Yes, because
- 36:21Speaker 1: when I do it, I'm like, okay, I've got the
- 36:22Speaker 1: shampoo in, and then I'm shaving my legs really quickly,
- 36:25Speaker 1: and then I'm like doing my cleans at the same
- 36:27Speaker 1: time I'm washing my conditioner out, and it's like, bitch,
- 36:30Speaker 1: slow down, like put on an audio book, put on
- 36:33Speaker 1: Harry Potter. Actually you don't do that, You'll fall asleep
- 36:35Speaker 1: in the show. Yeah exactly, but like put on a
- 36:39Speaker 1: TV show or something like, really lean into the ritual
- 36:43Speaker 1: of it and the relaxing nature of it. Yeah, sometimes
- 36:47Speaker 1: they're gonna be like, oh, I can't be bothered, don't worry,
- 36:49Speaker 1: No one's standing there going no, no, go get hot
- 36:52Speaker 1: right now. You don't have to do it if you
- 36:53Speaker 1: don't want to. Yeah, but I was just like, wow,
- 36:57Speaker 1: this makes sense and you never regret it. You never
- 37:01Speaker 1: wake up in the morning going oh no, I washed
- 37:05Speaker 1: my hair and fake tan and exactly moisturized and boohoo. Yeah,
- 37:12Speaker 1: you wake up and you're like, good job, bitch, good job.
- 37:16Speaker 1: That's why they pee you the big bucked. Yeah. It's
- 37:18Speaker 1: another example of things that future thank you for. Obviously. God,
- 37:22Speaker 1: I'm glad I did that. Yes, sa, Yeah, I like that.
- 37:25Speaker 1: It kind of relates to my next mini glow up.
- 37:28Speaker 1: They're like beauty glowers for instant results. Oh so cheek code. Obviously,
- 37:35Speaker 1: there's a lot of skincare products and things out there
- 37:38Speaker 1: that truly will work their magic over weeks and months.
- 37:41Speaker 1: But when you're feeling a bit on a Wednesday morning,
- 37:44Speaker 1: I don't want to hear that. I want makeover moment. Yeah,
- 37:48Speaker 1: makeover montage two thousands, rom com MEA's for the Princess
- 37:56Speaker 1: of Genovia. Blow up that I can do on a
- 37:59Speaker 1: wheen day morning that isn't going to take me forever. Yeah,
- 38:02Speaker 1: this is going to look different for everybody. But some
- 38:05Speaker 1: easy go tos that I will do when I'm feeling
- 38:08Speaker 1: a bit in the morning is depuffing the eye area.
- 38:12Speaker 1: Oh yeah, so like eye patches that I put in
- 38:16Speaker 1: the fridge, or the like globes that you can run
- 38:19Speaker 1: over your eyes, or even just using spoons, Like that's
- 38:22Speaker 1: what I used to do early times, Like if I
- 38:25Speaker 1: knew that I'd had like a late night or something,
- 38:27Speaker 1: I just like chuck a couple of spoons in the
- 38:28Speaker 1: freezer and feeling the feeling of it. In my auths.
- 38:32Speaker 1: They also have these things called hangover masks. Yeah, but
- 38:35Speaker 1: you can get on that amazon in the freezer and
- 38:39Speaker 1: then they're like a sleeve and yeah, they're like a mask,
- 38:43Speaker 1: but it doesn't freeze freeze. It just goes really cool.
- 38:46Speaker 1: Then you put it over your face and it feels
- 38:48Speaker 1: so good. Yeah, it feels so good, and it constricts
- 38:51Speaker 1: the blood vessels around your eyes, which can help reduce
- 38:54Speaker 1: the signs of like dark circles or puffiness. And it
- 38:57Speaker 1: is just like a splash of cold water on your
- 38:59Speaker 1: face and instantly wakes you up. So I like to
- 39:01Speaker 1: put those on in the morning after I've done my
- 39:03Speaker 1: skin care and like while I'm doing my hair, and
- 39:05Speaker 1: it like slowly wakes me up. Using a body oil
- 39:09Speaker 1: or shimmer, I love that we're getting the shimmers back
- 39:13Speaker 1: because we should be moisturizing our bodies every single morning anyway.
- 39:18Speaker 1: But I love that there're a moisturize your body this morning. Yeah.
- 39:21Speaker 1: I didn't use the body shimmer though, because I was
- 39:24Speaker 1: basically head to toe, but yeah I did. If I'm
- 39:28Speaker 1: showing more of the depletage, then I'd be using an oil.
- 39:31Speaker 1: I did a top half fakedin. That's all I did. Clever,
- 39:35Speaker 1: I said, well, I'm wearing jeans. I'm not gonna worry
- 39:37Speaker 1: about that. That's also another one, just doing the top
- 39:39Speaker 1: half and like a chance fake off to the top half.
- 39:42Speaker 1: We're good to go. No one needs to see. No
- 39:45Speaker 1: one's gonna know. They can use their imagination exactly what
- 39:48Speaker 1: don or done, or don't or don't. But I do
- 39:54Speaker 1: really love using a body oil. Or one with a
- 39:56Speaker 1: shimmer in it, and there are so many out there, Like,
- 39:59Speaker 1: it's definitely a trending product at the moment. You know
- 40:01Speaker 1: what I'm really getting into at the moment. Body milks.
- 40:04Speaker 1: Oh yeah, so we've seen, you know, the milky tonas
- 40:07Speaker 1: that are trending and going all over Tiki taki, whether
- 40:12Speaker 1: it's the road one, whether it's the Bubble one, there's heat.
- 40:16Speaker 1: I am loving using the like a milky toner, but
- 40:20Speaker 1: it's just a body milk, and you can get whatever
- 40:24Speaker 1: brand you like. There's the one that I'm using at
- 40:26Speaker 1: the moment is the one from Banging Body, but you
- 40:28Speaker 1: can use it on your face and your body life hack,
- 40:32Speaker 1: life heck, because it's formulated with your face in mind first.
- 40:36Speaker 1: But I just use it everywhere. But i'd probably moving forward,
- 40:41Speaker 1: get one that's your body that's maybe like a bigger tub,
- 40:43Speaker 1: so it's a little bit more cost efficient, But I
- 40:47Speaker 1: love it because it soaks in so quickly, whereas with moistures,
- 40:51Speaker 1: I'm like, get in happy. Yeah, I've always love a
- 40:57Speaker 1: body oil, especially in the shower. Yeah, totally. Also face
- 41:02Speaker 1: masks that focus on hydration. So we spoke about the
- 41:05Speaker 1: BioMA one, but I also love like the Loop hydration
- 41:08Speaker 1: masks and the skin control one that went viral, Like
- 41:12Speaker 1: if you do want something that you're gonna wear overnight
- 41:14Speaker 1: or for like three hours in the evening, that one
- 41:17Speaker 1: is really good because I do feel like all three
- 41:19Speaker 1: of those products. I do see my skin looking visibly
- 41:22Speaker 1: more hydrated, and I'm like, I want the dopamine hit
- 41:25Speaker 1: of like it weren't. I'm beautiful, nobody will recognize me, yeah, exactly.
- 41:31Speaker 1: And also tending to your eyebrows. Oh yeah, like whatever
- 41:34Speaker 1: that is for you. If it's like lamination eyebrows at
- 41:38Speaker 1: home now, I love it. Have a little pot I
- 41:41Speaker 1: just put on the stove. Love, I just give them
- 41:43Speaker 1: a good and the beast was done. It's the brows,
- 41:51Speaker 1: brows or the beast, you know what I love? What
- 41:54Speaker 1: like is not a weekly one but derma planing, and
- 41:58Speaker 1: I might get into it because I know some people
- 42:01Speaker 1: say you shouldn't do that to yourself, but I always
- 42:03Speaker 1: use like a clean blade, yeah, and always also be
- 42:07Speaker 1: careful because it's sharp, and have cut myself zones. But yeah,
- 42:13Speaker 1: I love because I'm Italian, I have a fair amount
- 42:17Speaker 1: more peach fuzz than you do, so you know, and
- 42:20Speaker 1: it's also just a whatever you presser personal pres right,
- 42:23Speaker 1: But my makeup sits so fucking good When I dermo
- 42:27Speaker 1: plane my skin, it's insane, Like I can absolutely tell
- 42:31Speaker 1: the difference. Yeah, every single time. Yeah, ten out of ten.
- 42:35Speaker 1: And it also exfoliates your skin. So when you derm
- 42:38Speaker 1: a plane, not only does it kind of get rid
- 42:40Speaker 1: of the peach fuzz, but it you know, gets rid
- 42:44Speaker 1: of the dead layer of skin cells as well. So
- 42:46Speaker 1: that's also why your skin looks so glowy. But make
- 42:49Speaker 1: sure you do research, watch you tutorial, and do not
- 42:52Speaker 1: come for me if anything happens. Exactly disclaim this is
- 42:57Speaker 1: not financial beauty advice. Yeah, but like I said, all
- 43:02Speaker 1: of these things are really really personal, like derma plaining example,
- 43:08Speaker 1: but like you love doing like a lip tint for example,
- 43:12Speaker 1: or like your lashes, So like just knowing what those
- 43:14Speaker 1: things are and making them like quick and easy so
- 43:18Speaker 1: that you're like, Okay, I know that probably at some
- 43:21Speaker 1: point in the middle of the week, I'm like, God,
- 43:22Speaker 1: I can't be fucked. But even if I don't put
- 43:25Speaker 1: any makeup on, I always brush up my eyebrows one
- 43:31Speaker 1: and it instantly makes me feel better. Mine's mine's like
- 43:35Speaker 1: a spritz of a face tand exactly, yeah, yeah, I
- 43:39Speaker 1: put the Eco face hand in like a little spray
- 43:41Speaker 1: bottle and I just sprits my face in that, and
- 43:43Speaker 1: I'm like, Okay, I don't look like a sick Victorian
- 43:46Speaker 1: child anymore. We're back. We are so bad. We're so bad,
- 43:49Speaker 1: so we need a quick fix, quick fit slot for
- 43:52Speaker 1: a quick fix. And I've always said that put that
- 43:54Speaker 1: shit on shirt, put that shit on shirt. I love
- 43:57Speaker 1: a placebo. We do. I love a placebo. Okay, My
- 44:00Speaker 1: final one is very quick, but and we did discuss
- 44:05Speaker 1: this earlier in the year, but it's basically my friendly
- 44:07Speaker 1: reminder to put into your miniglow up routine, and it's
- 44:11Speaker 1: to source good news. So dedicate ten minutes, you know,
- 44:17Speaker 1: per day if you can to just making sure you
- 44:21Speaker 1: also focus on the good in the world. There is
- 44:24Speaker 1: a lot going on, and it is very very easy
- 44:29Speaker 1: to get news burnout and to think, oh my god,
- 44:33Speaker 1: like what the fuck is going on? Yeah, I feel you,
- 44:37Speaker 1: but have time put aside to help prevent you going
- 44:41Speaker 1: down rabbit holes and getting caught in a doom skull trap.
- 44:45Speaker 1: Because social media platforms and algorithms prioritize negative and scare
- 44:52Speaker 1: content like they prioritize that stuff. That's what goes viral,
- 44:56Speaker 1: that's what is trending. And a lot of news outlets
- 44:59Speaker 1: will even just write clickbaity articles like that because you're
- 45:03Speaker 1: more likely to click on it if you're like, oh
- 45:06Speaker 1: my god, is the world ending? I should probably know
- 45:10Speaker 1: about that. So all of these articles have that tone
- 45:13Speaker 1: to them when really that's not the case for that scenario,
- 45:18Speaker 1: you know. And so by really intentionally trying to find
- 45:23Speaker 1: good news in your day or in your week if
- 45:26Speaker 1: you can, it really does help you kind of just
- 45:31Speaker 1: keep moving, keep tracking. Not saying you need to bury
- 45:34Speaker 1: your head in the sand at all, but you do
- 45:37Speaker 1: need to have a balance of the news that you're
- 45:39Speaker 1: getting and making sure that you get it from reputable
- 45:42Speaker 1: sources and not just on social media. You can sign
- 45:45Speaker 1: up to newsletters, you know, also buying some fun magazines
- 45:50Speaker 1: like Love a Man, Love Slipping through a mag I
- 45:54Speaker 1: love slipping through a mad I'm gonna buy a magazine.
- 45:57Speaker 3: I'm going to buy a magazine.
- 45:59Speaker 1: Should we go? Yeah, there's a new agency throat. I'm
- 46:02Speaker 1: gonna get Zoo.
- 46:04Speaker 3: Yes, yes, yes, I'm gonna buy that like that's not
- 46:14Speaker 3: everyone in Australia when that's basically Playboy, the Bogan version
- 46:18Speaker 3: of Playboy magazine.
- 46:20Speaker 1: We love a mag, bring back the Nudi mag, Bring
- 46:22Speaker 1: back the nudy mag. But also I want like a
- 46:24Speaker 1: total girl yeah as well, might pick up like a
- 46:27Speaker 1: Frankie mag. Let's see, we'll have a browse. You're so indy.
- 46:32Speaker 1: I'm a dolly girl. Yeah, I love dolly girlfriend, love
- 46:36Speaker 1: it all, bring it back. No, I completely agree with that.
- 46:39Speaker 1: We can put a link to some of our like
- 46:41Speaker 1: go to sources of good news in the show notes,
- 46:44Speaker 1: so your chicks can have some inspo on where to start. Yeah.
- 46:47Speaker 1: ABC News has a section on their website for good news.
- 46:51Speaker 1: There's a good News app, which is a nonprofit based
- 46:53Speaker 1: app that shares stories about positive development. There's also on
- 46:57Speaker 1: social media on Instagram, Good Good, Good co which and
- 47:00Speaker 1: The Daily As has also started rolling out a good
- 47:03Speaker 1: news that happened this week And it's got a little
- 47:05Speaker 1: rhino on the front slide of it that I do enjoy.
- 47:08Speaker 1: That might have just been that one. Maybe there was
- 47:10Speaker 1: a rhino story. Yeah, but I did enjoy seeing you,
- 47:13Speaker 1: Yeah I did, so you know, Yeah, I love that
- 47:17Speaker 1: because we're also like three to four months into the year,
- 47:20Speaker 1: we're getting into it. I think some of the sparkle
- 47:23Speaker 1: of New Year, New me has, you know, worn off
- 47:26Speaker 1: a little bit. Yeah, and we did ask you chicks,
- 47:29Speaker 1: like how you were feeling, Like we're a quarter of
- 47:31Speaker 1: the way into the year, how's everyone going, Yeah, hey,
- 47:33Speaker 1: go mental health check, mental health check, And only fifteen
- 47:36Speaker 1: percent of your chicks said you were thriving. And the
- 47:39Speaker 1: majority of you chicks did say that you were getting by.
- 47:42Speaker 1: So I think everybody's yeah, we're the majority of us
- 47:45Speaker 1: are doing okay. But I do hope that this episode
- 47:49Speaker 1: can help you introduce some of those rituals for having
- 47:54Speaker 1: some more joy in your week and things that like,
- 47:56Speaker 1: don't you don't have to completely rehaul your life because
- 48:00Speaker 1: we're also we're not promoting like toxic positivity here, but
- 48:03Speaker 1: it's like, whether you're going through a rough time or
- 48:06Speaker 1: you're just feeling weighed down by what's going on in
- 48:08Speaker 1: the world, that we need to make time for that,
- 48:10Speaker 1: whether it is the new cycle or just the work
- 48:12Speaker 1: week or something rough does happen in your life, Like
- 48:16Speaker 1: we're all going to go through bad times, but it's
- 48:18Speaker 1: so much easier to get through it if we've been
- 48:21Speaker 1: prioritizing the good around some of those shitty times as well.
- 48:25Speaker 1: So we wanted to wrap the episode by asking you, chicks,
- 48:29Speaker 1: the things that you do for your own miniglow ups
- 48:32Speaker 1: during the week. Quite a few of you said pilates, makeup,
- 48:36Speaker 1: and skincare. Someone said once a month, I do the
- 48:42Speaker 1: full body ritual, but the key is a full bottle
- 48:45Speaker 1: of wine in the shower. Can I come? Wow? That inappropriate?
- 48:52Speaker 1: Would you feel comfortable if I joined you? That is amazing?
- 48:55Speaker 1: But also be safe? Yeah, exactly. Make sure you've got
- 48:58Speaker 1: one of those grippy pads on the on a movie
- 49:00Speaker 1: shower at your bars so you're like, okay. Next one
- 49:03Speaker 1: is like having a coffee before the kids wake up,
- 49:06Speaker 1: or asked our boyfriends and cats. Yeah, reading books instead
- 49:10Speaker 1: of doom scrowling obviously, love that, beach walks and dancing
- 49:14Speaker 1: in the kitchen, keep me sane, love that, Oh that's
- 49:18Speaker 1: so cute. Deleting all social media off my phone for
- 49:21Speaker 1: a week, cool slagh and eight hours of sleep. M yeah,
- 49:29Speaker 1: ten out of ten. I think a lot of these.
- 49:31Speaker 1: It's so like, you know, we have moving your body, journaling,
- 49:35Speaker 1: touching grass, washing my hair. And it's so so key
- 49:42Speaker 1: into me time and just prioritizing the time that you're
- 49:46Speaker 1: spending with yourself. Every single one of these is a
- 49:51Speaker 1: solo act that is your mini glow up of the week.
- 49:54Speaker 1: That it's basically just prioritizing yourself and enjoying spending time
- 49:59Speaker 1: with yourself, And like, how often are you actually doing that?
- 50:04Speaker 1: Because when we told you, chicks, majority of women spend
- 50:07Speaker 1: less than thirty minutes a day on me time, which
- 50:11Speaker 1: call me selfish, but that is not enough. No, I
- 50:14Speaker 1: need at least two hours about me, men and mem
- 50:18Speaker 1: not including anyone else. Yeah, I he's feel like two
- 50:20Speaker 1: hours by myself. Your life is your life, and you're
- 50:24Speaker 1: not only spending thirty minutes or less of your day
- 50:27Speaker 1: on you and I get people have kids, that's like
- 50:29Speaker 1: a different story. That's a different story. Of course, put
- 50:33Speaker 1: their bedtime earlier, hear me out, If they go to
- 50:36Speaker 1: bed at like three pm, you've got the whole line
- 50:41Speaker 1: to just enjoy yourself. Well, chicks, That is a wrap
- 50:44Speaker 1: for today's episode of two rough Checks. Thank you so
- 50:47Speaker 1: much for having us in your ear holes. We love
- 50:49Speaker 1: to be here and we'll catch you on Thursday. See
- 50:52Speaker 1: you on Thursday. Bane Give you
- 51:02Speaker 2: May say
