Transcript
- Lucas: Ciao Luna, ready for another little Italian adventure? Luna: Ciao Lucas! Always. What are we learning today? Lucas: Today we're going to look up. Way up. At the sky. Luna: Oh, are we talking about the weather again? Lucas: Sort of. More specifically, clouds. In Italian, a cloud is 'una nuvola'. Luna: Una nuvola. That sounds soft, like a cloud should. Lucas: Let's say it together: una nuvola. Luna: Una nuvola. Lucas: And if there are more than one, they become 'le nuvole'. Luna: Le nuvole. Okay. So I can say 'le nuvole sono bianche'? Lucas: Exactly! 'The clouds are white.' Le nuvole sono bianche. Luna: Le nuvole sono bianche. That's pretty easy. But what if the cloud is big? Lucas: Then you say 'la nuvola è grande'. Luna: La nuvola è grande. What about a cloud that looks like something? Lucas: Ah, that's fun. You can say 'una nuvola a forma di...' and then whatever it looks like. Like 'a forma di coniglio' – a rabbit. Luna: Una nuvola a forma di coniglio. That's cute. So I can describe any shape? Lucas: Yes. And don't forget the sky itself: 'il cielo è azzurro'. The sky is blue. Luna: Il cielo è azzurro. But what if it's gray? 'Il cielo è grigio'? Lucas: Perfect. You're catching on. Let's put it all together. Imagine we're in a park, lying on the grass, looking up. Luna: Okay, I'm there. I see a big white cloud. Lucas: Then you say: 'Guarda, una nuvola!' – Look, a cloud! Luna: Guarda, una nuvola! La nuvola è grande. Lucas: Le nuvole sono bianche, e il cielo è azzurro. Luna: Le nuvole sono bianche, e il cielo è azzurro. I love that. It sounds so peaceful. Lucas: It does. And you can make it more fun: 'Quella nuvola ha forma di cane.' That cloud looks like a dog. Luna: Una nuvola a forma di cane. Oh, I see it! Lucas: You know, if this episode has been helpful – if it's worth a coffee to you – you can support us at 'buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo'. Luna: Yeah, it's a tiny thing that helps us keep making these episodes free for everyone. Lucas: Exactly. No pressure, but if today's cloud talk made you smile, that's the link. Now, let's practice a little more. Luna: Let's! How about: 'Le nuvole sono morbide'? Are clouds soft? Lucas: Morbide is a great word. But we usually say 'le nuvole sono soffici' – fluffy. Luna: Soffici. That's a nice word. Le nuvole sono soffici. Lucas: Let's do a quick drill. I'll describe a cloud, you repeat. Una nuvola bianca. Luna: Una nuvola bianca. Lucas: Due nuvole grigie. Luna: Due nuvole grigie. Lucas: Il cielo è sereno. Luna: Il cielo è sereno. That means clear sky, right? Lucas: Right. Now you try a full sentence. Luna: Oggi il cielo è azzurro e le nuvole sono bianche. Lucas: That's wonderful, Luna. You're a natural. Luna: Grazie! I think I'm ready to describe clouds on my own now. Lucas: Let's do one more round. Repeat after me: 'Quella nuvola è a forma di stella.' Luna: Quella nuvola è a forma di stella. Lucas: And: 'Le nuvole si muovono lentamente.' Luna: Le nuvole si muovono lentamente. The clouds move slowly. That's poetic. Lucas: It is. Next time you're outside, take a moment to look up and describe what you see in Italian. Luna: I will. Thanks, Lucas. This was really calming. Lucas: That's what we aim for. Practice your nuvole, and we'll see you next time. Luna: Arrivederci! A presto!
