- 0:14Speaker 1: This is Kevin Sports for a day that you're bringing
- 0:16Speaker 1: you the Folkston and High Sports Show right here on
- 0:18Speaker 1: a radio Folkston on Today show. If we get time,
- 0:26Speaker 1: that is, we've got reports on local cricket scores, an
- 0:29Speaker 1: update on Folkston in Victor's Friendly games, and if I
- 0:32Speaker 1: get time, I'll tell you about my sporty weekend. But
- 0:35Speaker 1: last Saturday I witnessed the world mile record being broken.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Then on Sunday I visited Radna Park Junior Park Run
- 0:42Speaker 1: where they celebrated their second birthday. And in the studio
- 0:56Speaker 1: I'll be joined by Christian Greenholche, who is head of
- 1:00Speaker 1: marketing at the Sports Trust. So we have loads to
- 1:03Speaker 1: talk about there now. The start of the week it
- 1:18Speaker 1: was guitarist Brian May's seventy ninth birthday, so I've dug
- 1:22Speaker 1: out this track written by Brian May in nineteen seventy seven.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Sit back and stamp your feet too. We will rock
- 1:28Speaker 1: you by Queen. Happy birthday, Sir Brian, your big discuss
- 1:33Speaker 1: chicking your chinall of it lad singing. Wow. That was
- 1:59Speaker 1: shortens week and it community caught us out there, but
- 2:01Speaker 1: so that was the way We'll rock you From a
- 2:03Speaker 1: nineteen seventy seven and just sign off air that. When
- 2:07Speaker 1: that first came out as a musical, Benette wrote it,
- 2:10Speaker 1: I think it really blew everybody's mind. It was just
- 2:14Speaker 1: and it will I'm sure stand the test of time. Okay,
- 2:19Speaker 1: So I'm joined in the studio by Christian Greenholge. Now
- 2:22Speaker 1: is that right, Christian? But you've had this all your life?
- 2:24Speaker 1: What's your what's your name?
- 2:26Speaker 2: So? Yeah, Christian green holsh I get, I get it
- 2:30Speaker 2: a lot. I get a lot of letters that's say
- 2:31Speaker 2: Christian Greenhouse. Yeah, I get, I get all sorts of stuff.
- 2:36Speaker 1: It's halshyeh right right, Well, just on the name thing.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Is that an English name?
- 2:41Speaker 2: So from what I gathered, so my kind of family
- 2:44Speaker 2: makeup is one my mom's side Scottish, dad's side Irish.
- 2:51Speaker 2: But the name is really strong around like the Bullton area. Okay, yeah,
- 2:56Speaker 2: because a lot of them up there. But as soon
- 2:58Speaker 2: as you kind of get further down stair, it disappears
- 3:01Speaker 2: you don't really see it.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Right. I will say that to one of your predecessors
- 3:06Speaker 1: at the Sports Trust, in fact, the very first world.
- 3:09Speaker 1: In fact, she was three heels manager. She was a
- 3:13Speaker 1: very sporty lady and I used to be at the
- 3:15Speaker 1: race course and she did a bit of boxing. But
- 3:18Speaker 1: her name was Emma Center and she used to come
- 3:22Speaker 1: in here and have a chat. And she always used
- 3:23Speaker 1: to come in a Christmas time and she said, you
- 3:25Speaker 1: try getting a text for Christmas when they say where
- 3:28Speaker 1: jointed sexy two? Oh yeah, that sounds something. What's the
- 3:31Speaker 1: name Center? Oh yeah, right of one of my best friends.
- 3:35Speaker 2: His actual name is legally Santa as well. So that's
- 3:38Speaker 2: always an interesting one to you might be listening, but
- 3:41Speaker 2: that's always an interesting one to try and explain to people.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Yeah, right, we're going off. We're going off of the
- 3:47Speaker 1: subject already. Anyway, Christian, welcome to the show. Now. Tell
- 3:50Speaker 1: us your you are from the Sports Trust. Tell us
- 3:53Speaker 1: your role at the Sports Trust.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Yeah, sure, so I've been at the spots just for
- 3:58Speaker 2: a few years now. My official title is Head of
- 4:03Speaker 2: Marketing and Partnerships. I also do a lot of ops
- 4:07Speaker 2: and jump in various different places. I mean, we've got
- 4:10Speaker 2: our camps coming up. I'll be helping out with the
- 4:12Speaker 2: camps all the time. We jump in our side. I
- 4:14Speaker 2: always describe our team as we're a small team who
- 4:18Speaker 2: do a lot and we're experts in different fields of
- 4:21Speaker 2: what we do. So we have an OPS expert, but
- 4:22Speaker 2: the ops expert, we'll also jump in over things. So yeah,
- 4:25Speaker 2: I do a lot with kind of communities, partners of
- 4:28Speaker 2: that kind of thing.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Okay, so it sounds like you're all a bit of
- 4:31Speaker 1: a jack of all trades, but you specialize in your
- 4:33Speaker 1: own certain subjects. Now, the Sports Trust, there's lots and
- 4:39Speaker 1: lots going on, and to be honest, I don't know
- 4:41Speaker 1: where to start. And we will come on to talk
- 4:45Speaker 1: about the sports center in the swimming pool a little
- 4:46Speaker 1: bit later, but I do want to talk about things
- 4:49Speaker 1: that well, I think it's very relevant at this time
- 4:53Speaker 1: of year, and that's the c sports side of things.
- 4:55Speaker 1: So let's talk about that. And now I don't know
- 5:00Speaker 1: much about it. I've been down there soon. It was
- 5:02Speaker 1: sort of their headquarters down there, but I don't think
- 5:06Speaker 1: they get enough coverage, to be honest, and we know
- 5:09Speaker 1: it's weather dependent. So just tell me your experience of
- 5:12Speaker 1: the Sea Sports and what they do.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Yeah, Sea Sports is firstly, I think it's it's incredible
- 5:20Speaker 2: and the community in Folkston that's based around the sea,
- 5:24Speaker 2: so like the yacht Club, FOLXT and paddlers, there's so
- 5:27Speaker 2: many amazing community group groups who kind of work to
- 5:30Speaker 2: weather together in different ways. Sea Sports kind of sits
- 5:33Speaker 2: in the middle of that, and one thing we've been
- 5:35Speaker 2: trying to do is bring them groups together. So we've
- 5:37Speaker 2: had some of them volunteer and help us out with
- 5:39Speaker 2: different things, and you know, there's a lot of experts there.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Rather than people holding onto information themselselves, it's become a
- 5:45Speaker 2: thing where everybody shares that information, which is really nice.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Sea Sports previously has done work with schools instructed lessons.
- 5:53Speaker 2: This year we stripped it back a little bit. Last
- 5:54Speaker 2: year we had a difficult year. A lot of weather
- 5:58Speaker 2: sewage issues really kind of affected our ability to be
- 6:01Speaker 2: open and be consistent. This year we've really focused on
- 6:04Speaker 2: just hires and consistency to kind of build that back up,
- 6:07Speaker 2: increased kind of community awareness of it. It's been difficult again.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Wind's not been great this year, which is upsetting, but
- 6:14Speaker 2: when we do manage to get out there, it's one
- 6:17Speaker 2: of my favorite my nieces visited from up north last
- 6:20Speaker 2: week and they came down and tried it out and
- 6:22Speaker 2: they was like, I was the cool uncle that week.
- 6:25Speaker 2: That was good. But yeah, it's a really special, important thing,
- 6:29Speaker 2: and I know We're going to talk about the swimming
- 6:31Speaker 2: pool soon. But living by a coastal town, to have
- 6:36Speaker 2: a facility where people can get on the water responsibly
- 6:40Speaker 2: learn about water safety is really important to us. And
- 6:43Speaker 2: with the swimming pool coming, we know we're kind of,
- 6:46Speaker 2: you know, a leader of water based activities in the town.
- 6:50Speaker 1: So if I go down there, I'm like one of
- 6:53Speaker 1: your nieces or nephews that comes to the town. What
- 6:56Speaker 1: can I do down there?
- 6:57Speaker 2: So this year we've got kayak double kayaks, which are
- 7:01Speaker 2: great fun paddle boards. Paddle Boards have like really took
- 7:04Speaker 2: off in the last few years. It's I always describe
- 7:08Speaker 2: kayaks as you're probably not going to fall in puddles.
- 7:11Speaker 2: You're probably going to fall in stand upod of board
- 7:13Speaker 2: you're going to fall in. But once you get your
- 7:15Speaker 2: balance level it takes a couple of goals. Once you
- 7:17Speaker 2: get it, that ability to just kind of flow out there.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Especially we're so lucky with where the harbor comes in
- 7:24Speaker 2: because when the tides high, you can just kind of
- 7:27Speaker 2: go through the boats right up to the bursting all
- 7:29Speaker 2: the way around see people. The amount times you go
- 7:32Speaker 2: out and you see someone you're not walking past and
- 7:34Speaker 2: you have a wave and stuff, so they're great for
- 7:36Speaker 2: like balance, core strength as well, but also it's a
- 7:40Speaker 2: nice way to get out on the water and see things.
- 7:43Speaker 1: So you've got your pedal board. So I turn up
- 7:44Speaker 1: say I'm a competent swim I'll say I've never pedal
- 7:48Speaker 1: balled before. Do they come out with you or do
- 7:51Speaker 1: they just you know, kind of keep them all on you.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Yeah, So this year it's there's less instructed sessions. Next
- 7:57Speaker 2: year we'll be hoping to kind of reintroduce that we've
- 7:59Speaker 2: had to have a bit of a level in year
- 8:00Speaker 2: and kind of get back on top of things down there.
- 8:03Speaker 2: If you came down so you can book online. You
- 8:05Speaker 2: can book ahead, which we advise to do just to
- 8:09Speaker 2: make sure you know you've got space. We get a
- 8:10Speaker 2: lot of people, I mean ce Sports, We have people
- 8:13Speaker 2: booking from America, Brazil. Really it's a real tourist kind
- 8:17Speaker 2: of hot down which is nice. So you can book
- 8:20Speaker 2: online or you can just turn up on the day
- 8:22Speaker 2: and walk in, which for people who are local usually
- 8:25Speaker 2: works a little bit better just because they can keep
- 8:27Speaker 2: an eye on the weather a little bit or they
- 8:29Speaker 2: have a better feel for it. So you turn up,
- 8:32Speaker 2: you get down there, we'll get you waivers signed. We've
- 8:34Speaker 2: got to safe some changing rooms. You get a wet
- 8:36Speaker 2: suit on. If you want a wet suit, you do
- 8:38Speaker 2: need to wear a boy incaid. That's a part of
- 8:40Speaker 2: insurance legal stuff. And then our instructors who are down there,
- 8:44Speaker 2: the duty manager down there, James. They're really good at
- 8:47Speaker 2: what they do. They will, even though it's not an
- 8:49Speaker 2: instructed course, they will not let you go out without
- 8:52Speaker 2: you feeling confident about you what you're going to do.
- 8:56Speaker 2: So yeah, so you can just get down there, get
- 8:58Speaker 2: kitted out, get on the water one of them ones
- 9:01Speaker 2: as well. The best way to do it is to
- 9:02Speaker 2: just get out there. Get over that fear of follow
- 9:06Speaker 2: once you're in there. It's not as bad as it seems.
- 9:08Speaker 1: That's good. Yes, that's interesting, and it's interesting because I
- 9:11Speaker 1: think a lot of people, I mean, there's obviously going
- 9:14Speaker 1: to be certain circles that know about paddle board and
- 9:17Speaker 1: it's down the road, but I'm sure there's a lot
- 9:19Speaker 1: of people in the town that don't know it. And
- 9:21Speaker 1: I'm sure that you know that they could be a
- 9:24Speaker 1: lot more people going out and wanted to learn more
- 9:26Speaker 1: about it and then perhaps if they like it, go
- 9:28Speaker 1: want to get their own paddle board. We're going to
- 9:31Speaker 1: take a quick music break now because well, I just
- 9:35Speaker 1: love this song. This is I was kind of looking
- 9:37Speaker 1: for a beach related song and that I just put
- 9:40Speaker 1: a beach in the search and this great song come up.
- 9:43Speaker 1: This is Martha and the Muffins with Echo beach. Martha
- 10:24Speaker 1: and the Muffins there with a bit of a beachy song.
- 10:26Speaker 1: As we're talking about sea sports and paddle boarding and
- 10:30Speaker 1: kayaking and stuff like that. But one interesting point, Christian,
- 10:33Speaker 1: I mean the booking system. Do you book Okay, I'm
- 10:40Speaker 1: looking to book for paddle boarding. Do I just go
- 10:42Speaker 1: on to shepwet sports and see what's on there? You
- 10:44Speaker 1: tell us, do we find the individual sports sports? Did I?
- 10:49Speaker 1: Oh that used to be used to be the old
- 10:51Speaker 1: habit there.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely the sports. I've worked too hard on the
- 10:55Speaker 2: branding to go back up.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Yeah yeah yeah yeah.
- 10:58Speaker 2: So for sea sports really easy. You can just go
- 11:01Speaker 2: to folksonse sports dot com big book now button on
- 11:04Speaker 2: there with some Faqus, some information, all that stuff on
- 11:06Speaker 2: there if you want to find out a bit more
- 11:08Speaker 2: about it. We recently updated the main Sports Trust website
- 11:12Speaker 2: make a bit more of a hub to find different activities.
- 11:15Speaker 2: All that kind of talk a bit more about what
- 11:16Speaker 2: we do, so you can also find it through there.
- 11:19Speaker 2: The best betters just go online, folks, sasports dot Com
- 11:22Speaker 2: book now you can see it on there. The other
- 11:25Speaker 2: thing is keep an eye on the socials because that's
- 11:26Speaker 2: where we really update any weather changes and it just
- 11:29Speaker 2: kind of allows you to be one step ahead of
- 11:31Speaker 2: what's going on.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Yeah, right, I will say that, Actually I'm slipping into
- 11:36Speaker 1: the old mode Chip was Sports Trust when it first
- 11:38Speaker 1: started off, we used to have them some yearly awards
- 11:43Speaker 1: and there was one a couple of Biggins we started
- 11:45Speaker 1: off up the Grand Hotel wasn't big enough and we
- 11:47Speaker 1: had one at the Leascliffall And I've got a couple
- 11:50Speaker 1: of trophies at home from the ship waste Morts, I
- 11:54Speaker 1: don't know what was it, Volunteer of something of the year.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Yeah, So we're working on bringing them back very so yeah, yeah,
- 12:00Speaker 2: it's very much part of our strategy to get them
- 12:02Speaker 2: back in and see what they look like. Yeah.
- 12:04Speaker 1: And one other thing that's come to mind before we
- 12:06Speaker 1: move on from paddle boarding. Last year I went down
- 12:10Speaker 1: to watch the just Just Weathering Heights Day I don't
- 12:14Speaker 1: know if you've ever been down there.
- 12:15Speaker 2: I'm very and we are slightly involved this year as well,
- 12:17Speaker 2: which I can tell you if you like.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Right. Anyway, it was a funny day last year. We
- 12:24Speaker 1: went down in the morning and I think it was
- 12:26Speaker 1: poor and the rain, but it was nice and sunny
- 12:28Speaker 1: in the afternoon or vice versa. I can't remember. But
- 12:32Speaker 1: out on the harbor there was like half a dozen
- 12:37Speaker 1: paddle boarders dressed in red dresses doing the dances. Yeah,
- 12:41Speaker 1: it's really amazing. That was really good fun.
- 12:43Speaker 2: One of our skateboarders dressed up as well and did
- 12:46Speaker 2: some videos in the park and called it skate Bush
- 12:48Speaker 2: as well. So there's some videos around the skateboarders.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Okay, so we're going to move on to another subject now,
- 12:54Speaker 1: which we've been talking about, but this is about holiday camps.
- 12:58Speaker 1: So give us the bill on holiday camps and what's
- 13:02Speaker 1: going on.
- 13:03Speaker 2: Yeah. So holiday camps we do numerous times throughout the year.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Their main kind of the aim is to keep kids
- 13:12Speaker 2: active and give parents the opportunity to work throughout holidays,
- 13:16Speaker 2: look after childcare, make sure children get fed and they
- 13:19Speaker 2: get to experience great stuff as well. So we do
- 13:21Speaker 2: f fifty one the skate park, Free Hills Sports Park
- 13:25Speaker 2: which is more of a multi sports kind of one,
- 13:27Speaker 2: and we do some work in the marsh Academy as well,
- 13:30Speaker 2: so a little bit further Afeel. Every year we do
- 13:34Speaker 2: over eighty five hundred spots every year across them across
- 13:38Speaker 2: their venues and them that eighty five hundred is through
- 13:42Speaker 2: half spaces and half spaces are It was a scheme
- 13:46Speaker 2: that was set up for children who were in receipt
- 13:49Speaker 2: of free school meals shouldn't go hungry during the holidays
- 13:53Speaker 2: just because they're not at school. So these half program
- 13:55Speaker 2: was set up and it's delivered by providers like ourself,
- 14:00Speaker 2: where parents get a vouch from the school they can
- 14:02Speaker 2: book onto the camps and then the kids get to
- 14:04Speaker 2: attend for free. They get fed at f fifty one,
- 14:07Speaker 2: they do skateboarding, scooter in climbing, and then we do
- 14:10Speaker 2: some creative enrichment sessions and they have a hot meal.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Three Hills they do more different multi sports. In the
- 14:15Speaker 2: marsh Academy they do multi sports as well. Our camps
- 14:18Speaker 2: every time sell out every time, yeah f fifty one.
- 14:22Speaker 2: The day them tickets go out, the vouchers go out.
- 14:25Speaker 2: It does not last long. They the camp's are they're
- 14:29Speaker 2: hard work. There are a lot of children, but they
- 14:32Speaker 2: are the most rewarding thing we do every year every year.
- 14:35Speaker 2: They're so special. We've had kids who started off at
- 14:38Speaker 2: camps who have then turned into volunteers at camps who
- 14:41Speaker 2: now work for us. And we've got one girl who
- 14:44Speaker 2: has come through f fifty one, started off at the
- 14:46Speaker 2: camps and now she's on the Olympic pathway to compete
- 14:49Speaker 2: at the next Olympics, and she finished she just finished
- 14:52Speaker 2: six or seventh in the nationals. And another guy who
- 14:56Speaker 2: works with us as well at fifty one, he just
- 14:58Speaker 2: finished first in the past nationals through f fifty one.
- 15:01Speaker 2: And they've all had involvements in these camps at different points,
- 15:05Speaker 2: so they've become this great vehicle for not just you know,
- 15:10Speaker 2: something to do in the holidays. They're actually giving children
- 15:13Speaker 2: tools to build up on their CV. We've got a
- 15:16Speaker 2: young girl, Rosie who helps us down there, and she's
- 15:19Speaker 2: like she's younger than some of the people who attend,
- 15:21Speaker 2: but she loves to just be there and get involved
- 15:23Speaker 2: and help out and she coaches and teaches people. So, yeah,
- 15:26Speaker 2: the camps are really special. The numbers are crazy. We
- 15:29Speaker 2: do offer some paid spaces as well. We keep them
- 15:31Speaker 2: really low price, purely because we know the line between
- 15:36Speaker 2: being in receipt of free school meals and just being
- 15:39Speaker 2: over it can be very fine. You still could really
- 15:41Speaker 2: stuggle for you know, money some because.
- 15:43Speaker 1: We've got to remind people that the Sports Trust is
- 15:45Speaker 1: a charity. Is that right?
- 15:46Speaker 2: Yes?
- 15:47Speaker 1: Well tell us. I mean I don't know they heard
- 15:49Speaker 1: does a charity work? I mean it's yeah, all this
- 15:52Speaker 1: giving stuff away? Do you use a charity? We are
- 15:55Speaker 1: on grants.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Yeah, so through the half program, we go for a
- 15:57Speaker 2: procurement process, so it's delivered all the around the country.
- 16:01Speaker 2: It kind of became a main thing after the Marcus
- 16:05Speaker 2: Rashford campaign.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Food in that Yeah.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Yeah, so we go for a procurement process. We're the
- 16:13Speaker 2: largest deliverer in the district of it, purely because we're
- 16:17Speaker 2: very fortunate to have facilities to be able to deliver
- 16:21Speaker 2: these kind of things. So, yeah, it's like process. Paid
- 16:25Speaker 2: spots as well, they come in they kind of support
- 16:28Speaker 2: that and help grow that thing.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:31Speaker 2: I mean it's a big question how does the charity work?
- 16:34Speaker 2: So many elements, I mean there's a lot of you know,
- 16:37Speaker 2: we have an amazing fundraising team, we have amazing community
- 16:40Speaker 2: groups who use our spaces who help support it. Everything
- 16:43Speaker 2: that comes in goes straight back in. There's no one
- 16:46Speaker 2: taking anything out of anything. It is special. It is
- 16:49Speaker 2: really special. But you have to you have to be
- 16:51Speaker 2: a certain character to work in a charity.
- 16:54Speaker 1: You have to you can't be in a given person,
- 16:58Speaker 1: haven't you you know? I mean, this is what I
- 16:59Speaker 1: always say about volunteers, And I mean, I suppose since
- 17:03Speaker 1: I can remember, in one form or another, I've been
- 17:05Speaker 1: volunteering all of their presenters here volunteers. I've volunteer at
- 17:10Speaker 1: the Raceful Life and I love it. I love just
- 17:14Speaker 1: getting on the mic and encouraging people, speaking to people
- 17:18Speaker 1: when they've just come in off of race and asking
- 17:21Speaker 1: why they do it. And volunteering is something that's there's
- 17:26Speaker 1: so many opportunities out there that can lead on like
- 17:28Speaker 1: they do at the Sports Trust in preps into employment.
- 17:34Speaker 1: I think volunteering is another subject totally totally on its own.
- 17:37Speaker 1: So we won't get too digressed with that. And so
- 17:41Speaker 1: we're sticking with the sports camps. Is there anything else
- 17:44Speaker 1: you want to tell us?
- 17:46Speaker 2: Yeah? Around the sports camps, what I would say is.
- 17:49Speaker 2: I think a lot of the time, if you know
- 17:51Speaker 2: somebody or yourself you are in receipt of free school meals. Really,
- 17:56Speaker 2: I speak to people and they're not even aware it exists,
- 17:58Speaker 2: but they're eligible for it. To a friend of mine
- 18:00Speaker 2: recently who's got child, was you RECEI I didn't just
- 18:03Speaker 2: come out of the blue with a conversation led onto
- 18:05Speaker 2: that yeah, And he was like yeah. And I was like,
- 18:07Speaker 2: do you know about the half program and he was
- 18:09Speaker 2: like no. And I explained to him how you know
- 18:11Speaker 2: it helps with childcare and he's like, I'm losing six
- 18:14Speaker 2: months of work every year because of childcare. I didn't
- 18:17Speaker 2: know this existed. So I would advise if you yourself
- 18:20Speaker 2: are in receipt of free school mills, or if you
- 18:22Speaker 2: know somebody, please encourage them to look at it. And
- 18:25Speaker 2: that's not just me saying come use our facilities. I'm
- 18:28Speaker 2: just it's such an incredible thing that's out there that
- 18:31Speaker 2: it's the awareness. As much as we try to do yeah, yeah,
- 18:35Speaker 2: you know, it's more people I will say.
- 18:36Speaker 1: I will say that, I mean this would where this
- 18:39Speaker 1: initials hef Kemp. When I first heard of it some
- 18:42Speaker 1: years ago, it didn't affect me at all. But I thought,
- 18:46Speaker 1: let's let's google it. I mean, the wonders of technology. Now,
- 18:51Speaker 1: just put explain hef kemps in the Google in the search,
- 18:54Speaker 1: and then you might get a better understanding, don't Yeah, yeah.
- 18:58Speaker 2: There's so much information there how it works. We don't
- 19:01Speaker 2: have direct involvement with the distribution of the vouchers, so
- 19:03Speaker 2: we can't always help. We can guide, but we can't
- 19:05Speaker 2: help there. It comes through the schools and through the program.
- 19:07Speaker 2: But once you got that vouture, if you ever have
- 19:10Speaker 2: any issues, if you just email contacts at the Sports
- 19:13Speaker 2: Trust or camps at the Sports Trust, as well as
- 19:15Speaker 2: in other email address we have, people will jump on there.
- 19:17Speaker 2: They'll help you, they'll guide you through the process, point
- 19:20Speaker 2: you in the right place.
- 19:21Speaker 1: So yeah, right, excellent. Right, Well, we're going to play
- 19:26Speaker 1: another bit of music now, and this is another song
- 19:29Speaker 1: to somebody had a birthday, I kind of pick up.
- 19:32Speaker 1: I'll try and keep an eye on a certain social
- 19:35Speaker 1: media where if you're like famous musicians or film stars
- 19:40Speaker 1: have birthdays. And this is a lady, I'll tell you what.
- 19:43Speaker 1: I think You've got to be of a certain era
- 19:46Speaker 1: to listen to this one. Martha Reeves. If I said
- 19:49Speaker 1: to a lot of people Martha Reeves straight away, you'd
- 19:51Speaker 1: think of Martha Reason the vandellas well. She was eighty
- 19:54Speaker 1: five last year, last year, eighty five years old last week,
- 19:58Speaker 1: and she was part and parcel of the Motown era
- 20:03Speaker 1: where there was so much good music coming out of
- 20:06Speaker 1: America in those days. So just to wish Marfa Reves
- 20:10Speaker 1: a happy eighty fifth birthday, I found this one in
- 20:12Speaker 1: the playlist and it's called Nowhere to Run. Going back
- 20:42Speaker 1: to nineteen sixty five, there Marfa Reves and the Vandalas
- 20:45Speaker 1: on the Motown label. And did you know what the
- 20:52Speaker 1: Motown label stands for? Did you you take it for granted,
- 20:56Speaker 1: I didn't you just say Motown? Well, Motown was it
- 21:00Speaker 1: was based in Detroit. Detroit was very, very big in
- 21:04Speaker 1: the automotive industry in the sixties, so they just shortened
- 21:08Speaker 1: it and called it Motown because the music and the
- 21:11Speaker 1: cars came out of the same town. So there you
- 21:13Speaker 1: go a bit of trivia for it. Right. So we're
- 21:16Speaker 1: going to talk about the one that's on everybody's lips
- 21:19Speaker 1: if you like sport, and it's the Sports Sports Center
- 21:25Speaker 1: and the swimming pool. So without any further a deal
- 21:28Speaker 1: going to hand you over to you, Christian, So tell
- 21:30Speaker 1: us it's the big one, the latest.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Yeah, it's the one that everyone's everyone wants to know
- 21:34Speaker 2: more about, and you know, I can, I can definitely
- 21:38Speaker 2: share some bits. It has been a monumental undertaking. We've
- 21:44Speaker 2: discovered lots of things, learned new things. One of the
- 21:47Speaker 2: things that has been most incredible about it has been
- 21:50Speaker 2: the community responds to it. We've had so much positivity
- 21:53Speaker 2: and support. I mean, you'll see stuff on social media,
- 21:56Speaker 2: but the personal emails we get is just in credible
- 22:00Speaker 2: and it makes such a difference. And you know, every
- 22:02Speaker 2: email we get is looked at and we discuss it
- 22:05Speaker 2: and we make sure it's taken into account. The sports
- 22:09Speaker 2: center will survive and do amazing things off the back
- 22:13Speaker 2: of the community. That's where That's kind of what we're
- 22:16Speaker 2: conscious of and that's how we've approached the project. So
- 22:19Speaker 2: there's a lot of work going on. Recently, we've kind
- 22:21Speaker 2: of finished a lot of the demo work, so we
- 22:26Speaker 2: will be sharing some pictures soon of what that looks like.
- 22:28Speaker 2: We want to make sure we kind of we want
- 22:30Speaker 2: to share things when they're you know, they mean something
- 22:33Speaker 2: like to people and we want to show clear visual updates.
- 22:37Speaker 2: So the demo work has finished, a lot of stuff
- 22:39Speaker 2: has been stripped out. The old changing room's completely gone,
- 22:42Speaker 2: which were I've seen the messages they needed an update,
- 22:46Speaker 2: completely stripped out. They're completely empty now and ready for
- 22:49Speaker 2: the next set of the rebuild. The swimming pool we
- 22:53Speaker 2: did have to empty it. We didn't want to that
- 22:55Speaker 2: cause delays. We just replaced all the pool room underneath.
- 22:59Speaker 2: That was all kind of the engine room of the
- 23:01Speaker 2: swimming pool. Some brand new pumps in there. That a
- 23:03Speaker 2: lot of money kind of went into bringing that up
- 23:05Speaker 2: to date so that it would the longevity was there.
- 23:08Speaker 2: It would last a long time.
- 23:09Speaker 1: You know.
- 23:10Speaker 2: You could have rushed it open, might have lasted a year,
- 23:13Speaker 2: had to have been closer for another two years. So
- 23:15Speaker 2: we made sure we did that. Unfortunately, we did have
- 23:17Speaker 2: some breakings that did cause some delays. There was nothing
- 23:22Speaker 2: we could do about it. It happened we put the
- 23:24Speaker 2: new pumps in. We didn't want to empty the pool,
- 23:26Speaker 2: but you couldn't turn the pumps on when there was
- 23:28Speaker 2: glass in the pool.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Said that they got in and I decided to break
- 23:33Speaker 1: glass in.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Yeah, So so that that caused some delays. So we
- 23:37Speaker 2: have been delayed slightly, which is you know, it's upsetting
- 23:41Speaker 2: for us, it's upsetting for the community. We understand that,
- 23:44Speaker 2: but I would say bear with and have patience because
- 23:47Speaker 2: the plans that are coming through, in the work that
- 23:49Speaker 2: is being done at the moment is incredible. I mean,
- 23:53Speaker 2: there's some information kind of it's a small town. Information
- 23:56Speaker 2: gets out there. It kind of goes out in different ways.
- 23:58Speaker 2: But one thing we're really excited about is the entrance.
- 24:00Speaker 2: We're going to move the entrance, so the entrance is
- 24:02Speaker 2: going to move to a different location, improve accessibility, access
- 24:06Speaker 2: all that kind of thing, make it a bit more
- 24:08Speaker 2: friendly for everybody. So that's really exciting. I'm currently just
- 24:12Speaker 2: waiting on some visuals and some venders to come through
- 24:14Speaker 2: to see what that looks like, and we will you'll
- 24:17Speaker 2: be able to see them on the sports dress. We'll
- 24:19Speaker 2: do it in a release and a bit of an
- 24:20Speaker 2: article about that and explain it and bring everyone up
- 24:23Speaker 2: to speed. You know, some people said we've not said
- 24:26Speaker 2: too much. There's a reason about it. We want to
- 24:28Speaker 2: make sure when we give you something, it's something good
- 24:30Speaker 2: and it's something you can run with and you can
- 24:32Speaker 2: see and visualize. So yeah, really really good, really promising.
- 24:36Speaker 2: The work that's been done so far is every time
- 24:39Speaker 2: I step in the building, my mind is like completely
- 24:43Speaker 2: blown with the work that's gone on. Yeah, the gym
- 24:46Speaker 2: completely gutted out, all the stuff out there, some of
- 24:48Speaker 2: the walls removed. It feels about twice the size it
- 24:52Speaker 2: felt before. So yeah, there's a lot of work going on.
- 24:56Speaker 2: There has been delays. You know, we're looking later than
- 24:59Speaker 2: we initially, but the plan is in a couple of weeks,
- 25:03Speaker 2: I will, you know, I'll put some solid information up
- 25:05Speaker 2: with some visuals so people can see what it's going
- 25:07Speaker 2: to look like with a more solid you know, Dan
- 25:11Speaker 2: here really because as much as we feel the same
- 25:14Speaker 2: as everyone else, we want it there and back in
- 25:16Speaker 2: the community as quick as possible, but we want to
- 25:18Speaker 2: ensure that it lasts.
- 25:20Speaker 1: I think now the people are folks and are beginning
- 25:22Speaker 1: to understand that. I mean, when the announcement was first
- 25:25Speaker 1: made the Sports Trust that are going to reopen the
- 25:28Speaker 1: Sports Center, everyone thought they could go down there again
- 25:31Speaker 1: next week and just you know, get on with it.
- 25:33Speaker 1: But you're you know that you're taking the wise move
- 25:36Speaker 1: of getting the job done properly because myself and many
- 25:40Speaker 1: people in folks and it's generations, you know. I used
- 25:45Speaker 1: to take my kids learn to swim it, and so
- 25:48Speaker 1: many other people as well have done that sort of thing.
- 25:51Speaker 1: They've grown up with it, and so another bit of
- 25:54Speaker 1: period of time. I'm sure they're prepared to wait. So
- 25:58Speaker 1: that is excellent news and we look forward to seeing that.
- 26:02Speaker 1: So that's interestingly going to move the entrance. I suppose
- 26:05Speaker 1: it was always a debt ramp, and the big steps
- 26:08Speaker 1: and so has a bit of a job. But that's
- 26:11Speaker 1: the first thing that's going to really hit the people
- 26:13Speaker 1: when they open it.
- 26:14Speaker 2: Yeah, visually, so that will change people's route into there,
- 26:17Speaker 2: so visually it will be you know, different. But then
- 26:21Speaker 2: I mean even the reception, so much has been stripped
- 26:24Speaker 2: back and the space has been opened. I think what
- 26:27Speaker 2: potentially happened at that building was things had been just
- 26:30Speaker 2: added on, slightly added on, added on, added on, where
- 26:33Speaker 2: the space started to become feel a bit kind of restricted.
- 26:36Speaker 2: We've took a lot of that out that wasn't necessary,
- 26:38Speaker 2: and now you walk in and you go it feels modern,
- 26:40Speaker 2: it feels open, it feels big, it feels welcome in.
- 26:43Speaker 1: There was a little bar on the right hand side.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Is that going to still be your bar still there?
- 26:48Speaker 2: At the moment, there's a couple of projects we're working
- 26:50Speaker 2: on where the sports Center won't just it will reopen
- 26:55Speaker 2: as the sports center. Everybody knew about it, but there
- 26:57Speaker 2: will be you know, more community space is in there
- 27:00Speaker 2: as well to work with you know, youth, elderly, all
- 27:03Speaker 2: different people. So the bar could be used for a
- 27:06Speaker 2: couple of different things. At the moment, I don't have
- 27:09Speaker 2: the full answer for that yet, but again, that would
- 27:11Speaker 2: be something we'd announced ones were really confident.
- 27:14Speaker 1: What that looks like. Great, Yeah, yeah, it's something that
- 27:17Speaker 1: I think everyone's become. They've adjusted to the fact that
- 27:21Speaker 1: the Sports Center isn't open. It wasn't a quick fix,
- 27:24Speaker 1: and the people can't wait for it to just open
- 27:28Speaker 1: the doors again. Wait, and it's just reminded me again
- 27:31Speaker 1: once again. I think there was a revamp. It might
- 27:34Speaker 1: have been just a mini revamp. I don't know. Twenty
- 27:37Speaker 1: five years.
- 27:38Speaker 2: Ago, was that the one with Colin jack Jackson.
- 27:41Speaker 1: Yeah, Colin Jackson came down. I interviewed him. We didn't
- 27:45Speaker 1: get him in here, but we interviewed him down at
- 27:49Speaker 1: the Sports Center. And because there's a gentleman called Wilbert Greeves.
- 27:54Speaker 1: I don't know if you've come across that name. He's
- 27:56Speaker 1: a character. In fact, he gave out the medals at
- 28:00Speaker 1: the District Sports which was organized by Sarah Green, your colleague.
- 28:07Speaker 1: And I mean Wilbert was an Olympic four hundred meters
- 28:12Speaker 1: hurdler and he appeared in two Olympics and he's become
- 28:15Speaker 1: a bit of a buddy of mine and he used
- 28:18Speaker 1: to it was here me he got Colin Jackson down
- 28:21Speaker 1: and he also got back in the day, he got
- 28:24Speaker 1: Lym for Christie down to the town. And a lot
- 28:27Speaker 1: of people might remember this, but when liv for Christie
- 28:30Speaker 1: was just kind of you, coming to the end of
- 28:32Speaker 1: his career, he wanted to give something back. There was
- 28:35Speaker 1: a little initiative that he set up street Athletics. It
- 28:39Speaker 1: was called and we didn't put a track down, but
- 28:42Speaker 1: we sectioned off the lees and they marked out an
- 28:45Speaker 1: eighty meter strip and he just got the kids running
- 28:48Speaker 1: up eighty meters. There was a lot of razmataz and
- 28:50Speaker 1: stuff like that, and he was on a microphone at
- 28:54Speaker 1: one end and I was on a microphone at the
- 28:56Speaker 1: other end, and it was great fun. And afterwards he said, oh,
- 28:59Speaker 1: you know, you want to come in to the LEAs
- 29:01Speaker 1: Cliffall for a coffee. So me and my other off Sue,
- 29:04Speaker 1: we went in just chatting to him and we were
- 29:08Speaker 1: training for the London Marathon and he was absolutely in
- 29:11Speaker 1: awe of marathon runners because he'd only ever run four
- 29:13Speaker 1: hundred meters. That We had a great hour with him,
- 29:17Speaker 1: and he said, well, I've got to go now. I said,
- 29:20Speaker 1: I've been motivating these kids to run eighty meters. He said,
- 29:23Speaker 1: now I've got to go home and motivate my kids
- 29:26Speaker 1: to do their homework. And that kind of brought him
- 29:29Speaker 1: right down to the street level. You know, he was
- 29:32Speaker 1: signing everything that moved. It was great. Anyway, we're digressing again.
- 29:36Speaker 1: So the Sports Center, anything else to add to that?
- 29:39Speaker 2: I mean one, I think just going back to the
- 29:43Speaker 2: kind of community element of it of when we first
- 29:45Speaker 2: went in that building, there was so much history in
- 29:47Speaker 2: that building and we've kept that history. So there's trophies from.
- 29:51Speaker 1: Years, black and white pictures, there's so much incredible winners trophies.
- 29:56Speaker 2: And none of that has gone. We've kept it all.
- 30:00Speaker 2: You know, there's boxes and boxes of stuff and it's
- 30:03Speaker 2: really important to us. That although we're moving into a
- 30:05Speaker 2: new era, we don't we don't forget what came before that.
- 30:09Speaker 2: So we're kind of currently through the process of when
- 30:12Speaker 2: we find time trying to open a swimming pool, making
- 30:16Speaker 2: sure we keep on top of all that stuff and
- 30:17Speaker 2: we document it and we make sure. You know, your
- 30:20Speaker 2: name's probably on loads of things. So we're keeping all
- 30:23Speaker 2: that stuff and we will do something really nice of
- 30:27Speaker 2: it at some point to make sure what's been before
- 30:29Speaker 2: has not been forgotten.
- 30:30Speaker 1: I can imagine that when the time comes, it's going
- 30:33Speaker 1: to be a brilliant opening ceremony. And we have to
- 30:37Speaker 1: ever with Wilbert pick Friends tapped away, you know, because
- 30:41Speaker 1: actually I was. I was at the London Stadium and
- 30:46Speaker 1: I won't get a chance to talk about it, but
- 30:47Speaker 1: was at the Diamond League on Saturday and we watched
- 30:50Speaker 1: the Josh Kurb break the four minute mile. But Wilbert
- 30:54Speaker 1: is still evolved in the athletics and we could see
- 30:56Speaker 1: him down on the track. He was doing a bit
- 30:57Speaker 1: of marshaling and that, so he's still got a bit
- 30:59Speaker 1: Get co Dan or somebody like that.
- 31:02Speaker 2: I mean, our own CEO has been captain of England
- 31:05Speaker 2: Beach Soccer, so we've got some really kind of good
- 31:08Speaker 2: people around us. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I wonder he would be. Yeah, yeah,
- 31:13Speaker 2: that's a big one.
- 31:14Speaker 1: Yeah. Well I've got my diary with me if you're okay. Well, right,
- 31:19Speaker 1: so we're going to play another song. Now, this is one.
- 31:21Speaker 1: It's kind of relevant because at the weekend also just gone,
- 31:26Speaker 1: myself and my partner Sue, went around to see Paul
- 31:29Speaker 1: Bartlett and his partner Katharine O'Connor. Now they are off
- 31:33Speaker 1: to Berlin and on the thirty first, I'm pretty pretty
- 31:38Speaker 1: sure it's sold out. They are doing a quiz at
- 31:41Speaker 1: the Three Hills, believe it or not, and I am
- 31:44Speaker 1: the quiz master, so I don't know. Just just this
- 31:47Speaker 1: as a little song for them, and it's it's called
- 31:51Speaker 1: take My Breath Away and it's by Berlin. What's a
- 32:06Speaker 1: very last man.
- 32:39Speaker 2: There we go.
- 32:40Speaker 1: That's for Paul and Catherine who will be undertaking the
- 32:43Speaker 1: Berlin Marathon in September, I do believe, but we hope
- 32:47Speaker 1: to see them. It's on Friday week there quiz and
- 32:50Speaker 1: they're running it for the Whiz Kids. I think the
- 32:53Speaker 1: charity was so yeah, I'll be telling you a bit
- 32:55Speaker 1: more about that a bit nearer the time, right, So Christians.
- 33:00Speaker 1: So we're just kind of we can't cover everything on
- 33:03Speaker 1: this because it's just totally impossible. But there's one subject
- 33:06Speaker 1: that we do want to talk about, and that's the
- 33:10Speaker 1: over fifties, wasn't it.
- 33:11Speaker 2: Yeah, that's Active fifties good. I mean, we've talked about
- 33:14Speaker 2: kids and all that, but that that section of our
- 33:17Speaker 2: you know, community, it's important we talk about that. So
- 33:20Speaker 2: we run a program through the sports just called Active
- 33:23Speaker 2: Fifties and it's sports aimed at people over fifty. It
- 33:27Speaker 2: mainly takes place at Three Hills. We try and do
- 33:29Speaker 2: a bit more community outreach as well and get to
- 33:30Speaker 2: different places. But we have loads of different sports they do.
- 33:33Speaker 2: So they do like pilates, yoga, zumba, pickleball which is
- 33:38Speaker 2: hugely popular. You know, there's multiple multiple sessions of that
- 33:42Speaker 2: every week, ran by some great volunteers. So yeah, loads
- 33:45Speaker 2: of different sessions. And if you know someone who's you know,
- 33:49Speaker 2: over fifty, or you're over fifty yourself and you're looking
- 33:52Speaker 2: for like a community that's like welcoming and you know,
- 33:57Speaker 2: no concerns about ability will help you and bring up
- 33:59Speaker 2: to Sweed fifties is one of the most amazing groups.
- 34:03Speaker 2: You know, we've had a marriage through that group. We
- 34:06Speaker 2: just celebrated one of our volunteer's seventieth birthday. He had
- 34:09Speaker 2: his party at Three Hills as well. All the different
- 34:11Speaker 2: Active fifties members came down. It's really affordable as well.
- 34:15Speaker 2: It's super cheap. They can do a membership or they
- 34:17Speaker 2: can do pay for one off sessions. What we find
- 34:19Speaker 2: is a lot of people they come and try one session,
- 34:21Speaker 2: like netbugs they used to play it. They do that
- 34:23Speaker 2: and they go, oh, I might have a go I
- 34:25Speaker 2: might try to pickle ball as well, and then they
- 34:27Speaker 2: start building this unity and then they come up for
- 34:31Speaker 2: a couple of tea and some biscuits and a coffee.
- 34:34Speaker 2: And it is constantly growing. So we have some great
- 34:36Speaker 2: people who support that. SAGA recently did a little pick
- 34:39Speaker 2: and did some other things and did some fundraising for
- 34:42Speaker 2: us to help grow that program. Yeah, it's it's one
- 34:46Speaker 2: of them ones where I'm using it as an opportunity
- 34:48Speaker 2: is if you know someone who you think might benefit
- 34:50Speaker 2: from that, please like look into it because I see
- 34:53Speaker 2: the difference it makes. Yeah, it keeps people active, keeps
- 34:56Speaker 2: them moving.
- 34:57Speaker 1: It's so important actually, because we were getting a bit,
- 35:00Speaker 1: and you know, we don't want to be stuck at
- 35:02Speaker 1: home on the sofa and just you know, looking at
- 35:05Speaker 1: the windows, saying on board, there's loads and loads of
- 35:08Speaker 1: stuff out there, people in folks. And if you're listening
- 35:10Speaker 1: to this and you've just got to go onto this
- 35:13Speaker 1: Borts Trust website, we'll come on about of contact points too,
- 35:16Speaker 1: because we are running out of time. We've just only
- 35:17Speaker 1: got about ten minutes left. But it's so important, isn't
- 35:21Speaker 1: it that? I mean, it's just really grown, isn't it
- 35:24Speaker 1: the whole section of over fifties.
- 35:26Speaker 2: Yeah, and we're seeing we're seeing some new new things
- 35:29Speaker 2: coming as well. So we got we were very fortunate
- 35:32Speaker 2: to get some funding recently to do another project and
- 35:35Speaker 2: we called it Stronger Tomorrow. So it was aimed at
- 35:37Speaker 2: people over fifty who are not comfortable to go in
- 35:40Speaker 2: and pick up a racket or then whether they're not
- 35:43Speaker 2: confident in that some basic mobility skills. And this new one,
- 35:46Speaker 2: it's a twelve week program. We're doing four terms of it.
- 35:49Speaker 2: We've just started the second term. It's completely free. They
- 35:52Speaker 2: do it with a coach and it's about being able
- 35:55Speaker 2: to just gain that confidence in living your life getting
- 35:58Speaker 2: on and off the bus, popping of the shop, you know,
- 36:01Speaker 2: going answering the door when it rings. That's another project
- 36:03Speaker 2: we've got going on and you can find out more
- 36:05Speaker 2: about that on the spotstus Social, but again completely free.
- 36:09Speaker 2: You can sign up for term free. Details will be
- 36:10Speaker 2: out soon. And that's just another great one. What we've
- 36:13Speaker 2: had is people do that and then move on to
- 36:16Speaker 2: the Active fifties programs because they've built up that cour
- 36:18Speaker 2: strength again.
- 36:18Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean support can be I mean, I
- 36:20Speaker 1: know through COVID, a lot of people suffered more than others,
- 36:24Speaker 1: you know, and very isolated, and there was this buzzphrase
- 36:28Speaker 1: about mental health, but there's no doubt about it. It
- 36:31Speaker 1: is good for your mental health, isn't it. And join
- 36:33Speaker 1: a club and we do.
- 36:34Speaker 2: We do surveys and reports and it is so coincides
- 36:38Speaker 2: with each other all the way up.
- 36:39Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, okay, right, well, we haven't got much
- 36:43Speaker 1: time for much more music, but I do want to
- 36:44Speaker 1: just saw this one in the playlist, and he's a
- 36:48Speaker 1: gentleman and has been knocking around for a very long time.
- 36:51Speaker 1: He's had a few of his share of illnesses. But
- 36:53Speaker 1: to sit back and enjoy this one from Billy Joel
- 36:55Speaker 1: because it's still rock and roll to me?
- 37:04Speaker 2: What's the matter with there? And can't you tell that
- 37:08Speaker 2: your ties too wide? Maybe talking about sounds still rock
- 37:19Speaker 2: and roll to me?
- 37:22Speaker 1: What a great song there from Billy Joel still rock
- 37:24Speaker 1: and roll to me? And yes, another one that's kind
- 37:27Speaker 1: of stood the test of time. And if there's a
- 37:31Speaker 1: karaoke song, it's it's Billy Joel in Uptown Girl must
- 37:35Speaker 1: be the first first song that's on on the playlist right,
- 37:39Speaker 1: So Christian, we are running our time. So let's just
- 37:43Speaker 1: genuinely recap what the Sports Trust is all around all about,
- 37:47Speaker 1: and you know, it just highlights some of the sports.
- 37:50Speaker 1: Just chuck us some names and so that if people
- 37:53Speaker 1: are interested how they can get in touch and you know,
- 37:57Speaker 1: how do they book up or whatever go on where
- 37:59Speaker 1: you go.
- 38:01Speaker 2: Thank you for having us. They's so nice to be
- 38:02Speaker 2: able to actually come on and I mean, you know,
- 38:04Speaker 2: there's so much that goes on in the town with
- 38:07Speaker 2: the sports just and people sometimes don't always understand like
- 38:10Speaker 2: some of the projects we do, and you're such a
- 38:12Speaker 2: big supporter and such helps. It's really nice to be
- 38:14Speaker 2: able to come in and talk about some of that.
- 38:16Speaker 1: Sound that's good to have you. And I do remember
- 38:18Speaker 1: when the Three Hills the actual building opened up. I
- 38:20Speaker 1: was there at the start of that. I was there
- 38:22Speaker 1: when the f fifty one opened up. I've absolutely loved
- 38:27Speaker 1: personally just do my own little soapbox here via community radio.
- 38:31Speaker 1: We were talking about community radio has become a great thing.
- 38:34Speaker 1: I have literally had hundreds of guests coming through this
- 38:37Speaker 1: studio from I don't know, I've had all the all
- 38:40Speaker 1: the mainstream sports. I had Kathy from the boxing club
- 38:43Speaker 1: the other day.
- 38:43Speaker 2: She's so good at what Yeah, yeah, I was going
- 38:46Speaker 2: to mention her before I was so good she was.
- 38:48Speaker 1: She was down at the at the Hive Sports and
- 38:53Speaker 1: yeah that was great, you know. I mean in the
- 38:55Speaker 1: studio I've had people for charity and sport of wing walkers,
- 38:59Speaker 1: of channel swimmers, bungee jumpers, skyhe divers. Plus we've we've
- 39:08Speaker 1: got the folks in rugby club are coming in so
- 39:10Speaker 1: shortly and this is this is my little soapbox to
- 39:14Speaker 1: promote the community radio. But it's not about me today
- 39:18Speaker 1: or the radio. It's about you promoting sports trust so
- 39:20Speaker 1: very kind of so so bang on. How can people
- 39:23Speaker 1: get in touch and in just the way you go. Yeah.
- 39:27Speaker 2: So recently we've just redesigned our main website, the sports
- 39:31Speaker 2: www dot the Sports Trust do org. We're trying to
- 39:35Speaker 2: create that as more of a hub where if you're
- 39:37Speaker 2: you can go in and search for whatever kind of
- 39:39Speaker 2: activities you're looking for and we will tell you where
- 39:41Speaker 2: you can find it. We cover so much stuff and
- 39:45Speaker 2: that is now a tool to make it easier. You
- 39:47Speaker 2: can also email contact at the Sports Trust dot org.
- 39:51Speaker 2: I pick up that account personally. I mean I cover
- 39:55Speaker 2: everything of what we do in different elements. I can
- 39:57Speaker 2: always make sure that gets to the right people. But
- 39:59Speaker 2: I've the answers somebody will amongst us. We know the
- 40:02Speaker 2: town inside out, we know sport groups, community groups inside out.
- 40:06Speaker 2: We're always happy to kind of point in the right direction.
- 40:10Speaker 2: The best way to keep up up to speed of
- 40:12Speaker 2: us regularly is just keep on top of our socials followers.
- 40:15Speaker 2: Make sure you know, turn the notifications on if you
- 40:19Speaker 2: really want. But it might just might not be the
- 40:21Speaker 2: most exciting information all the time. It might just be updates.
- 40:23Speaker 2: But that's where we talk about a lot of the
- 40:26Speaker 2: stuff we do. And the best thing I can advise
- 40:29Speaker 2: is if you see something and you think it looks interesting.
- 40:32Speaker 2: I know it can be scary to jump in, especially
- 40:35Speaker 2: sometimes with sports, but give it a go.
- 40:39Speaker 1: Right.
- 40:39Speaker 2: F fifty one is the best example of some people
- 40:42Speaker 2: sometimes found coming through that door quite intimidating. I've had
- 40:45Speaker 2: kids who I've really encouraged to come through. They've come
- 40:47Speaker 2: through it and they absolutely love it, and it's changed
- 40:49Speaker 2: their life and they've found their community and they're doing
- 40:52Speaker 2: amazing things. So yeah, I know sports can sometimes feel
- 40:55Speaker 2: quite intimidating if you're sat on the outside, but just
- 40:58Speaker 2: jump in there, give it a go. If you're nervous,
- 41:00Speaker 2: droppers and email will find the best way for you
- 41:03Speaker 2: to find what to do, or there might be a
- 41:05Speaker 2: group we know out that might be able to help. Yeah,
- 41:07Speaker 2: just give us a shout. We're always happy to kind
- 41:09Speaker 2: of help, not just with what we do, but you know,
- 41:12Speaker 2: point you in the right direction if we can.
- 41:14Speaker 1: And you're talking about that, there's one we haven't got
- 41:16Speaker 1: much time to mention it, but I do think it
- 41:18Speaker 1: deserves a mention. The climbing. Now, we've had a couple
- 41:23Speaker 1: of years ago, lady called Gabby came in and she
- 41:27Speaker 1: told us all about the climbing. I've been down there
- 41:29Speaker 1: and seen the climbing there there's something again people might
- 41:31Speaker 1: not know what's going on, and the youngsters can go
- 41:34Speaker 1: down there and they get all safety strapped in. So
- 41:38Speaker 1: there's another avenue that we haven't mentioned today because there
- 41:41Speaker 1: is so much going on we can't get through it all.
- 41:43Speaker 1: Climbate just popped in my head because I knew that
- 41:45Speaker 1: we'd had a guest in here before the climbing.
- 41:49Speaker 2: Very fun fact about the climbing is I'm sure you're
- 41:52Speaker 2: where of Matt Marcia, local legend gladiators. He trains for
- 41:56Speaker 2: gladiators in the climbing g Yeah. It comes in a
- 41:58Speaker 2: lot of trains that he's got the fun. There's time
- 42:00Speaker 2: on the speed wall. Yeah, so that's all this challenge
- 42:02Speaker 2: and it's the it's we have the highest walls in
- 42:04Speaker 2: the Southeast, I think at the moment high Yeah, yeah, yeah, climbing.
- 42:09Speaker 2: Climbing's a very good introductory spot because it's such a
- 42:12Speaker 2: welcoming group. When you go in there, you can just
- 42:14Speaker 2: do a bit of bordering before you even look at
- 42:15Speaker 2: the big walls. That's a very good way into into
- 42:18Speaker 2: active lives. Yeah.
- 42:20Speaker 1: What I did find out about when Gabbi came in
- 42:22Speaker 1: was some every now and then they changed They changed
- 42:25Speaker 1: the holds around, don't they are coming so that anyone
- 42:28Speaker 1: that's sort of going up might know where the next
- 42:30Speaker 1: hold is. But then they come around and they shut
- 42:33Speaker 1: the frame down and they move all the holds and
- 42:36Speaker 1: then so when you've got up again is totally different.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Which, yeah, we're trying to we're trying to do more
- 42:41Speaker 2: of that to keep it as fresh as possible. You know,
- 42:44Speaker 2: there's certain skills you have to have to be able
- 42:45Speaker 2: to do that, So we're upskilling in some of our
- 42:47Speaker 2: stuff to be able to do that more regularly.
- 42:49Speaker 1: At the moment, right Christian, the clock is Chickens. Thank
- 42:52Speaker 1: you so much for coming in. It's been an awesome morning,
- 42:55Speaker 1: and I hope people have learned so much more about
- 42:57Speaker 1: the Sports Trust and what they do. And you've done
- 43:01Speaker 1: a great job in delivering today all the information. So
- 43:05Speaker 1: I want to thank you and say hello to all
- 43:07Speaker 1: the colleagues, all we hot colleagues that have been here before.
- 43:10Speaker 1: So it's been brilliant, and what we do. We're going
- 43:13Speaker 1: to drip feed you in pressive even three or four
- 43:15Speaker 1: months or something, and you can give us an update
- 43:17Speaker 1: on what's going on and then we look forward to
- 43:19Speaker 1: the opening of the sports center and the swimming pool,
- 43:22Speaker 1: which the whole town will be at. I don't know
- 43:24Speaker 1: how you're going to pack them all in. I really don't. Okay,
- 43:28Speaker 1: so we've only got a few seconds left actually, but
- 43:30Speaker 1: thank you, thank you, Christian.
- 43:33Speaker 2: Thank you very much for being I loved it.
- 43:34Speaker 1: It's been great, great, excellent. Right, well, I'll be back
- 43:37Speaker 1: on Saturday. And I've left so much sport of today
- 43:41Speaker 1: because it's been so interesting, So I'll try and pack
- 43:43Speaker 1: some more in on Saturday. But I'll be back with
- 43:46Speaker 1: Adrian on Saturday between ten and eleven, and then on
- 43:50Speaker 1: Sunday I'm on the mic at the Deal Dinosaur ten
- 43:53Speaker 1: k and the Deal Try Club. I've organized a ten k.
- 43:56Speaker 1: It has been going for years. It's called the Dinosaur Run.
- 43:58Speaker 1: So anyway about it for me, so
