Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Hey guys, guy here.
- 0:01[SPEAKER_00]: It is Tuesday morning and a lot's gone on in the last week.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_00]: The 49ers lost their tight-ends coach.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_00]: This one came off the board.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_00]: I did not check polymarker to calcium not advertisers to see who they had.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_00]: I should go back and see who they had as the Seahawks next offensive coordinator.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_00]: I'd be shocked if Brian Flurry was on that list.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: But you know, there was a take I asked around.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: the other day that Colin Coward had, which is he said, if you're building an NFL franchise in the NFC and he emphasized Sam Darnold's 28 years old.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: that no GM would take Brock Perti or Jalen Hertz or any other quarterback in the NFC over Sam Darnold.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_00]: And while I think it's a defensible argument, I think it's an interesting argument.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it's true that nobody would take anybody other than Sam Darnold.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: I asked an offensive coordinator in the league, I texted him, I said, what do you think of this take?
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: And he said, too strong for me, Stafford, which Stafford would be on my list.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: Goff.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: I think golf would be on people's list.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it's on this guys list.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_00]: Dak.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: I'm I'm good with I think some people will take Dak.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: Now this guy like he said I'm a baker guy, so Baker has to be in the conversation.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: and Brock, I said, so is it safe to say that it's not obvious that everybody would take Donald over pretty specifically, and he said that's a safe take.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a good argument, so well crafted argument, it's a defensible argument, but I don't think it's correct to say that everybody blank it would take Donald, and if that's the case, which I believe it's the case, I didn't, I got confirmation because I wanted to tell you guys that I talked to somebody else.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_00]: But I didn't feel like I needed it.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: I, again, creative take, good take.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't think it's a correct take.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: And if that's the case, the Donald's not the class of the NFC, then Mike McDonald is trying to do something that's really, really, really, really difficult.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_00]: And that's build a sustainable championship contender as a defensive head coach with a non-alike quarterback.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_00]: Now, let's be very clear, and I said it last week, the C.O.X.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: or a legitimate champion, and the goal of the whole thing is to win the championship.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_00]: Now, some people might tell you, if I gave you the option, you own a team, you can either A, win a title, and then have no chance for 10 years, or B, be in contention every year for 10 years, I don't know what you take, but the point of the thing is to win the championship.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_00]: Now, if you're in the order, you're going, well, you know, I sell out more sweets if I'm in the NFC, your AFC championship game, seven out of 10 years,
- 2:29[SPEAKER_00]: We're contender, you know, we play a lot more prime time games, more standalone games, we sell more merch.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_00]: All right, fine.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_00]: But the point of the things to win the championship.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_00]: So for the sake of, you know, just understand, like this is not to say, well, you know, it's not, I mean, I'll work out for the CX, no, it worked out they won the championship.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: They won the Super Bowl, okay?
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: Tiffany is engraving Seattle Seahawks.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: their name is getting engraved in that gorgeous Tiffany Lombardi trophy.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_00]: So they won the thing.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: You can buy a book of Tiffany trophies and the book is $200.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, um, but winning as a champion, winning a championship is a defense effect coach with it's just so hard because you lose your offense of coordinator and now they've got their third coordinator in three years and I think a pretty shocking hire, but understandable when you consider
- 3:24[SPEAKER_00]: They're in the Super Bowl.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's hard to hire offensive coordinator, Mike McDaniel.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_00]: was not available.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: And where could you go if you want to go outside of the box this time here?
- 3:33[SPEAKER_00]: You could go to college, but Mike McDonald already hired.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_00]: He did that the first year with Ryan Grub, he hired a guy from college, he didn't work.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: So he wasn't going to go back down that road again.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think maybe he will get on the future, but he didn't go back down the road again.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_00]: The other thing that's really interesting is for all of the, and I think somewhat correct, by the way, takes, that Mike McDonald had the Shanahan offense,
- 3:55[SPEAKER_00]: not somewhat correct, specifically the Shannon offense.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_00]: He had their number this year.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_00]: But the Shannon offense is like a whole, there's this discussion about it.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_00]: Has it been figured out?
- 4:04[SPEAKER_00]: Does it have to respond?
- 4:05[SPEAKER_00]: So many guys run it.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think it definitely felt like Seattle had a beat on what the night was for doing.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: And specifically, they were specifically.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_00]: They were not fooled by the 49ers motions.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_00]: They did not get distracted by the motions.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, maybe the motions told the what was coming.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: It's interesting for all of that.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: That Mike McDonald's was like, yeah, but it's a good offense.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: And I want to guy running it in my building.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_00]: So I did think that was an interesting little side note.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a win for the Shannon offense.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: That's necessarily because no one person gets to own it once it's out.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_00]: But I did think it was interesting in the McDonald's.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, yeah, but I still want to run that offense.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: I still think there's a lot of value.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_00]: And it clearly helps the quarterback and the run game was.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: fantastic and the receivers thrive and the tight ends were good and all that stuff so it all worked.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe now You know one Kubi act to another Kubi act to Kubi act.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: They can talk about what Seattle did that was so effective against the 49ers Defensively part of like they get great players But if you're gonna sustain if you're gonna win multiple championships.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's just it's really hard to win multiple championships
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: If you're not going to, if you're going to lose your offensive court net or all the time, and you're not going to have any lead.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: elite quarterback, you know, I, you could argue, I would argue 13, 14 Russell Wilson for Seattle defensive at coach on the precipice of becoming elite quarterback for a small period of time, you know, you'd argue, it doesn't mean it doesn't happen once, Philly, 20, Philly two years ago, they win the Super Bowl, not only quarterback, people like hurts one, the Super Bowl is Super MVP, you're not allowed to say it then, but now you're later
- 5:47[SPEAKER_00]: Not a defensive head coach, but not at all like the Eagles are interesting, he's not a defensive head coach.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's actually worse because he's not a defensive head coach like so every year you're begging Vick not to retire, I went to, but also he's not at all, he's not he isn't offensive head coach, but he can't be your offensive head coach.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_00]: It's such a weird situation, but I appreciate Philly because they provide nonstop entertainment and they're good, like because of their GM, they got good players, Denver, you know, when
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: Elite Defense Peyton was no longer prime Peyton clearly, but that was an offensive at coach.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_00]: Baltimore that was a defensive, at least a non offensive at coach, a special team's head coach, Harbaugh, John, and Flacco.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_00]: Eli would be another interesting one, right?
- 6:33[SPEAKER_00]: Was Eli Eli's really interesting because he won the Super Bowls.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_00]: Outside of the Super Bowls, you would not consider him any elite quarterback.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_00]: If you'd won the one Super Bowls,
- 6:46[SPEAKER_00]: like, well, okay.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_00]: So it's just tough.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_00]: And we've talked about this.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: If you're going to, it's, Mike McDonald's trying to be the exception of the rule.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, I mean, I think he's going to succeed.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: He's got, he is successful and will be successful.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to win another championship.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: The odds are just stacked against him.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: And it may be that he's looking for, we'll see what happens this year, because it's possible.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_00]: He's looking for his fourth offensive coordinator in four
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: You know, that Brian Flory, by the way, Shanahan likes him, which I think, like, yeah, if Shanahan likes a coach, that should tell you something, he spends a lot of time around like that.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, congratulations to the guy.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's really hard, and I think it's gonna be really tough.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: Tynance coach to offensive coordinator, I hadn't thought about this part of until just now, I can't imagine it's happened very much.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: to play caller, but I can't imagine it's happened.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_00]: So it's a hard place to get noticed.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen some of them like, well, is it going to go to the developed titans?
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, developed titans feels like what team develops
- 8:06[SPEAKER_00]: tight ends and like we could go look at football reference, but really what is a really coach that develops tight ends.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's really hard.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: That position feels like it's really dependent on just do you have the records at skill set to be a block around a pass catcher and most guys don't.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_00]: Offences can create opportunities for let's say a pass catching tight end to catch a lot of passes, but that doesn't mean the tight ends.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: and get a bunch of public credit for developing guys.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think there's that many guys that fit the mold of being moldable into George Kittle-type titans, right?
- 8:48[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's really tough.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_00]: It's really, really tough.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like, well, he's a run game coordinator and they didn't run it again, like, who you, what's your person now?
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's just hard to know.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_00]: And I think we can acknowledge, like, man, it's hard to know clearly crushed the interview as I was texting with somebody like, it's alarming.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'm alarmed that Mike McDonald liked them.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: We're about to find out.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_00]: This Mike McDonald have the secret sauce when it comes to doing an interview and finding gold or maybe other people don't see it.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: That's alarming, because right now Mike McDonald's got
- 9:29[SPEAKER_00]: He's got everybody, wondering, does this guy have the secret sauce?
- 9:33[SPEAKER_00]: He's hot right now.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_00]: And I think really good, like, even if the shine would come off a little bit, even if they take a step back for a year, he's clearly an excellent head coach.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_00]: An excellent head coach.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_00]: And he's got an excellent GM.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_00]: Now, you know, as for Donald,
- 9:53[SPEAKER_00]: We get obsessed with like, this is why Mike Sando's tier list is so good, because sometimes there's 10 guys for a top 10 list.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes there's not 10 guys for a top 10 list.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: He's won a lot of games in two years.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: He hasn't proven longevity yet.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: He's one of the easiest people in the NFL root for.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: Once I saw him in Niners camp, I believed in him.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_00]: the evidence is there, the breadcrumbs are there, but I'm not going to pretend like I think one of the reasons covered is kind of the table form rightfully he's taken a victory lap because he believed in Donald.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: And he does a radio show and a TV show and a podcast every day, you know Mike McKagnan, the guy that drafted in the old jam in the Jets, I hadn't hurt from him for years and he came out during the cerebral sale, I always believed in him.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_00]: Well, so if you were a guy that believed in Donald when he was in Carolina and you said it, you deserve a victory lap.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_00]: I was not.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I loved the sight.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_00]: I was in favor of them adding him.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_00]: It was an obvious one.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_00]: Like, yeah, why not?
- 10:51[SPEAKER_00]: Because pretty much your starter.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_00]: And then once I saw him, I was clearly better than tray.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_00]: He, I think I think he could be and NFL starter.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: But he's let's see if he gets the chance.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: But I was not a Sam Donald truth or when he was in Carolinas.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_00]: So credit to anybody that was.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_00]: Now that said, longevity, there's still a longevity issue here.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_00]: And I think he's a really good player.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_00]: And now at some point this year, next year, he's going to get paid.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_00]: And he's got time to write so much of his story.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Eli, well, I guess Eli won one of the two, like really early.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: But he's got time to write his story.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_00]: And the goodins for him, he's got a run game and a defense.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_00]: I was, by the way, fully in favor of him replacing Gino, I thought that was obvious that someone who watched a lot of Gino Smith, they just weren't going to get over the top with Gino.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, the idea that now he has changed or elevated, it's just not the case.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think Eli would be an interesting case, like if Sando did the tears after he'd went to Super Bowl's.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_00]: putting a resume together and being a guy that people would pick over another guy are two different things, you know.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_00]: But you know, the Super Bowl was a weird one just in that the matchup was a little unusual.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_00]: It felt like kind of a wide open.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_00]: Now the NBA is getting, you know, now the thunder might run off like 10 championships in a row or something, but I'm not falling closely enough.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_00]: Although I did think.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: DNBA pulled itself out of the NFL's pro bull category.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like the NBA AllStar game was so much better than what it's been.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: I watched it and I have not watched the NBA AllStar game in a while.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't even know they changed the format.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_00]: And I flipped it on just because like you always check in on it, I'm like, what is going on?
- 12:45[SPEAKER_00]: Four 12-minute games with three different teams.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_00]: This is genius.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: As always, you know, if you've been around for a while, I haven't said in a while.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of problems in life can be solved by asking, what would you do if this was pickup basketball?
- 13:00[SPEAKER_00]: Like to me, that's always, it's where baseball changed.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's for a while baseball kind of, they're kind of ruled baseball like pickup hoops.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like, yeah, you didn't touch second base, but, you know, he's out.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_00]: That's how pickup basketball kind of has always been, right?
- 13:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, yeah, I know you were holding it and I hit it and technically, since you were holding it, you're fingertips, but like, I hit that abounds of your ball.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_00]: There's always just been this sort of gray area, which is life, but so much your life is in the gray area, right?
- 13:30[SPEAKER_00]: And it's the famous quote from Ethan Strauss's book about the warriors about Dre'mon, like Dre, one of the coaches said, well, Dre'mon is able to play in the gray area, that's what makes them good.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's life, can you play in the gray area?
- 13:43[SPEAKER_00]: And now we've, because of every replay and gambling, there's no, we don't, there's no gray area allowed.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_00]: And just, we get, we have to find the answer.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_00]: We have to figure every little detail out.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, the answer again was good.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_00]: But somebody told me today a buddy of mine who works in the NBA and with players and agents and they're like, you know, the chamber of the thunder is just way smarter than everybody else.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_00]: He's way better at this than everybody else.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_00]: And he's got a few core pieces and they're going to keep them and they're just going to want a bunch of championships.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_00]: You're in the NFL.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's a lot harder to keep that keep that train run.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_00]: Because your GM can't as good as he is, he can't.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't call your offense and he can elevate your quarterback with players, which is what they did this year.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, did you, anybody, to anybody?
- 14:36[SPEAKER_00]: I know a lot of you watched the AMC documentary, the 49ers, the Rise of the Niners.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was excellent.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_00]: I finished it for parts.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I wonder if it would have gotten a little more public buzz, had it been on HBO, which I think is back to HBO now, or Netflix, like the Cowboys documentary was, or Apple.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_00]: It probably got a lot of buzz.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_00]: The fact that it came out during the Super Bowl,
- 15:03[SPEAKER_00]: It didn't get like Montana peacock bus.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think, but it was really good.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_00]: I, you know, I thought they did a great job with it.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, the budget, I don't think the budget was like what it would have been if it were, you know, like an apple dock, but you know, they're so, they really pick and choose.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_00]: The fact that they had Brady and everybody narrating it and everybody attached to it that you would want to attach to it like Montana and young.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think on the low end, that thing was four episodes, and I haven't heard about this thing specifically, just from what I know about someone like the documentary, making world, I think on the, you know, you would think that that thing would have like a budget of like a million or two million.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_00]: A million and a half, and somebody in the documentary where it can take, send me a message and correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's like per episode.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_00]: And this was felt like it was less than that, but they did a good job with it.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_00]: I was just super, clearly, I would imagine with all those people attached, they had chopped it to everybody.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_00]: So it was interesting that it ended up on AMC.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_00]: But then, I don't remember it, the lockout, the player lockout or the strike in the 80s, because we're headed for one, it made you look baseball.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you've,
- 16:21[SPEAKER_00]: I've been, this last few weeks, I'm like, you know, I'm, I'm a do baseball again this year.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_00]: I love Major League Baseball, but, you know, you listen to some players, Harrison Bader, I heard him new giant, I heard him new to interview, saw many Machado comments.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_00]: Like when people ask them or the Dodgers bad for baseball, you know what they say?
- 16:40[SPEAKER_00]: They say no guys are getting paid.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_00]: You know, in baseball and in the NBA, players are on the team are on the team of each other, the players.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_00]: The players aren't, the players are in it for the players, because they have guaranteed contracts, they have the ability to have the leverage.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: They can take that stand.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_00]: The NFL, they can't take that stand.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_00]: They don't have the guaranteed contracts or the career longevity to do it.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_00]: The fact that they had replacement players play NFL games.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_00]: I know this is not new information, but just watching, and I gone back a few months ago because someone was like, oh, what about when Bill Walsh ran the triple option or the wing T, whatever.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_00]: and bill parcels laughed at them across the sideline.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_00]: And they had the clip in the dock.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_00]: But certainly, I've gone back and watched that through the day.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_00]: This is history that I was aware of.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_00]: But to really watch it, it's, it's, it's playout.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's crazy.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_00]: It's crazy.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_00]: You know, what is best for players?
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's not always what's best for the sport.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_00]: What's best for the fans and what's best for players or sometimes two opposite things, the NBA, we see that all the time.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_00]: Resting is good, but it's good for the body.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_00]: but that's not what's best for the fans and thus that's not what's best, you know, for the sport.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but football, rarely runs into that.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_00]: But baseball's gonna, like everybody around baseball thinks it is the lockout is coming and it's gonna be big.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_00]: And when you hear the players talk about it, now I am probably in the minority and that I don't think, you know, I don't think the Dodgers, I think the NFL's a great example.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_00]: I don't, the Dodgers are bad for baseball, you know, they're bad for
- 18:24[SPEAKER_00]: Competitiveness in a way, but you could argue, I mean, they could have easily not won the World Series.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_00]: Ultimately, I think if you're baseball and you're trying to, and they're doing a good job of it, climb back to the top, a villain you're not really going to chase down the NFL, of the public consciousness.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_00]: Having an easy storyline is the most important thing.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_00]: That's why quarterbacks are such a big deal.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_00]: Cause they're easy storyline.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_00]: Do you root for our Rogers, do you not?
- 18:50[SPEAKER_00]: Do you root against Tom Brady or for him?
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: Is that simple?
- 18:53[SPEAKER_00]: Do you hate Bella check or do you love Bella check?
- 18:55[SPEAKER_00]: He's not a quarterback, but quarterback's in coaches, is what I always say.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_00]: And you don't think college football lost it when they'll say Ben and Harball, like that's a big deal.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_00]: So they need to build the dabble, not being in the mix, but quarterback's in coaches.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: And what the Dodgers are, just like the Lakers have been in the past, what Dynasties are, why Dynasties are good in a way, is that they're an easy storyline.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody can pick aside.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_00]: The leikers are we for or against the patriots are we for or against the Yankees are we for or against the Cowboys.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_00]: It's really simple It's really simple and the Dodgers are that a unifying force now the problem is most Fan bases don't get to dream about taking them down, but
- 19:40[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the strength of a sport, this is where the NFL's unique, but most of the strength of a sport is not built on the bottom of your league, like, oh man, everyone watches all the games.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_00]: No, they watch the biggest games with the biggest stars.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_00]: And as long as you've got great easy storylines at the top, you can make an impact.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_00]: And that's kind of what baseball has now with the Dodgers.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_00]: And so players are not taking that bait.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I do think from an NFL standpoint, what would have been better for NFL storylines?
- 20:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Patriots winning would have been better, big picture for NFL storylines because it'd be easier to sell, well, Drake may as the next guy, even though I don't.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_00]: And I said this before the Super Bowl and I said this all year long.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's why I said I wouldn't have voted for him for MVP before the AFC championship game before we saw the Denver game.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_00]: I do think it's important, and I'm not an MVP voter, so whatever it's easier for me to say, but I'm a Heisman voter, and I feel this way about the Heisman, when I vote like, I want this vote to look like it understood the context of the world when we revisited five or 10 years from now.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_00]: So I was happy, I voted for Fran Amendosa, but I didn't know what was about to happen, and he looked so good.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_00]: And that vote, whatever happens in the NFL's secondary thing, but because what happened in the postseason that vote were as well.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_00]: My prediction was you could make a legitimate case that Drake made sure to be in the MVP this year.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm not convinced that thing was going to wear well.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was going to wear well.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_00]: Whereas like a staff at NDP, we know that's wearing well.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to put on a gold jacket.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_00]: Probably.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, people say like, look at the numbers.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_00]: which speaking of places where guy was wrong.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_00]: I thought I did think two years ago that Stafford was like, physically, we're on the down slope now.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we clearly weren't.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_00]: But, I do think we should all be on alert for the Rams to try and do something wild.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if Wild's the word, to get the next quarter back.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think at this point, you'd be hard-pressed to find J.J. McCarthy believers and truthers.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_00]: But you wouldn't have found Donald ones and you weren't going to find Mac Jones ones.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_00]: Once upon a time.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_00]: And so you'll wonder, is there a trickle-down effect?
- 22:10[SPEAKER_00]: And Bill Barnwell had a 49ers trade proposal where the 49ers trade Mac Jones to the Vikings.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_00]: is maybe the Supreme quarterback whisper in the sport right now.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_00]: So this trade offer was, 90's get a second, a fifth and a third in future, the fifth and the third come in later drafts.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_00]: But the second comes this year.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_00]: In exchange for a third in Mac Jones, I don't love a 27 and a 28 pick, but in 28 it'll feel pretty good to have a Vikings third round pick.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_00]: I think Kevin will call us great, but the odds are, you know, that's middle of the pack.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_00]: But the question I have is what happens, what is the trickle down effect?
- 23:03[SPEAKER_00]: If you trade Mac Jones to the Vikings, do you then create a situation where McVey thinks, well, let me go get JJ.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_00]: All right, because there at the point where here's one thing with McVey.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_00]: They are not going to, they will take a step back at other positions.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_00]: He is not, I don't think, they're not going to be good.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_00]: They're not going to be bad enough to draft high enough, and he is not going to want to take a step back a quarterback for a year after.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_00]: He's not going to want to spend a year looking for the guy to replace the effort.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to want to have that guy.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_00]: Well, he's not going to get him from the nighters.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_00]: Which is fine.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he doesn't want Mack.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_00]: He wants more talent.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_00]: something to consider.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_00]: You don't not do the trade, of course, because of that.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_00]: Let them do it.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_00]: But I do think everybody should be on their toes for a big quarterback move.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_00]: That's that for this.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for hanging.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_00]: Hang in.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for hanging.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_00]: Talk soon.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_00]: Later.
