- 0:32Well, I've got to turn off this stupid.
- 0:33Yes.
- 0:34I acknowledge that I'm being recorded.
- 0:36That is the whole point.
- 0:37Zoom.
- 0:38All right.
- 0:38We ready?
- 0:39Yup.
- 0:40Dun, dun, dun.
- 0:40Welcome to drive through episode number 47.
- 0:44Wow.
- 0:4447 of these things.
- 0:46This is our monthly recap where we put together a menu of
- 0:49automotive, motorsport, and random.
- 0:51Car adjacent news.
- 0:53Let's pull up to window number one for some automotive news.
- 0:57Yeah, I was looking at the notes.
- 0:59I actually like what we're doing here with the car stuff.
- 1:02But what can you do with 50, 000?
- 1:04That's right.
- 1:05Well, we're coming off a shlew of what should I buy?
- 1:07So I figured you know what?
- 1:08I know how much you guys love it when I start doing math.
- 1:11We remember how that drive thru went down, but I was like, I've been called out more
- 1:16than once about this mythical 50, 000.
- 1:19So I was like, you know what?
- 1:19How about I do a little bit of homework?
- 1:2150, 000 does not go as far as it used to.
- 1:23No, it does not.
- 1:24It does not.
- 1:25Okay.
- 1:26Well, before we jump into our showcase, our what can you buy showcases?
- 1:30For the month, we got a little bit of cyber truck update for you, Brad.
- 1:33I know you are really, really regretting not buying this truck.
- 1:37This is something you can not buy for our mythical dollar amount that we're going
- 1:41to talk about later, but what's going on with the cyber truck that I don't have?
- 1:45Tanya, do you want to go there?
- 1:47I don't even know what the problem is.
- 1:49What do you mean you don't know what the problem is?
- 1:51There's always a problem with the Cybertruck.
- 1:52Well, there's so many.
- 1:53Which one are we talking about?
- 1:55Right now, we're talking about the windshield wipers detaching from
- 1:59the truck because even they think the truck is so ugly, they don't
- 2:03want to be associated with it.
- 2:0411, 000 Cybertrucks have been recalled due to trim and wiper issues.
- 2:10How does that work?
- 2:11They've only sold like 5, 000 of them.
- 2:14No, no, no, The trim, that's old news.
- 2:17Like those pieces were coming off the back end already for a while.
- 2:20Well, now they're acknowledging the fact that there's a problem with the
- 2:23Cybertruck that needs to be addressed.
- 2:24Yeah.
- 2:25So, so they're doing a formal recall.
- 2:26Right.
- 2:26Okay.
- 2:26I got it.
- 2:27Right.
- 2:27You know, we've talked about this before.
- 2:28How do they fix things?
- 2:30Which aisle in Home Depot are they going to get the fix for this particular recall?
- 2:35And I was thinking, Do they glue the wiper back on?
- 2:39Do they rivet it on?
- 2:40It's not, that's not the issue.
- 2:41The trim piece is what's falling off.
- 2:43So they most certainly will glue the trim piece back on or rivet
- 2:46it like they did the pedal piece.
- 2:48No, no.
- 2:49They're going to use Ni Tis.
- 2:50Oh.
- 2:50They're going to Ni Ti it to the wiper and it's not coming off after that.
- 2:54Realistically, that thing is 67 feet long.
- 2:58Can you imagine walking into Vance Auto or AutoZone and like, I need
- 3:02a wiper blade for a Cybertruck.
- 3:03Where do they keep?
- 3:04This six foot long Bosch edge wiper blade.
- 3:08They don't, you probably have to special order it.
- 3:10And then it takes like six months or something, but the problem with the
- 3:13windshield wiper is not the wiper itself is the motor where the motor
- 3:16controller may just stop functioning due to electrical overstress
- 3:22to the gate driver component.
- 3:23So the wiper blade is so big and the motor is too small.
- 3:28That's what I just heard.
- 3:30You would have to imagine that an electric.
- 3:33Car company would be able to figure out how to get enough juice to power
- 3:38a 6, 000 foot windshield wiper.
- 3:42Nah, nah, we're still working on that.
- 3:44But yet the truck has enough power to pull a 9 11 and race against
- 3:48the 9 11 while pulling a 9 11, but it can't move its wiper arm.
- 3:52We were going to put laser beams as wipers instead, and yet we
- 3:57can't manage a technology that's been around for how many decades?
- 4:00A hundred years.
- 4:01Like literally, I bet they had the technology for the laser beams, but
- 4:05the NHTSA was probably like, nah, dog.
- 4:08That's not for me, dog.
- 4:09Not, nah, nah, nah, nah.
- 4:11LASIK sales were going to be infringed upon.
- 4:15That's perfect.
- 4:15You buy a cyber truck and you can give yourself LASIK.
- 4:17That's awesome.
- 4:18But you know, as I dug into this article from Electric Which is a
- 4:24bit of a tech website, but they bring up EVs quite a bit, sort of
- 4:27baffled by the picture that they had.
- 4:29And as I looked into it a little bit more, apparently the picture
- 4:32that they used in the article has nothing to do with the wiper blade,
- 4:35which is what was puzzling to me.
- 4:36It has everything to do with a Russian cyber truck smuggling ring.
- 4:41Is that the two trucks in front of a tractor trailer?
- 4:44Right.
- 4:45And I'm like, wait, what?
- 4:47So I want to know where that story is, or is it some sort of weird, like
- 4:50SEO to get Google to find their site?
- 4:53Because they're putting the appropriate words together in
- 4:56the picture data or whatever.
- 4:57So I was like, this is really weird.
- 4:59So I couldn't find any evidence of this particular thing as I was digging into
- 5:03that, but I was like, oh, okay, well, whatever, but that's okay because.
- 5:07There's another thing with the Cybertruck that was brought
- 5:09up on, of all places, Reddit.
- 5:12You read it here, folks.
- 5:13Yeah, right.
- 5:14So we're talking a majority of the systems on the Cybertruck are electric.
- 5:17Well, the steering is two and apparently it has input delay and
- 5:22somebody took a video of just how slow it is to react to a driver's input.
- 5:28The caption reads, Imagine dying in a car accident because of input delay.
- 5:33I don't know.
- 5:34It's imperceptible from this video.
- 5:38And they're not moving, which there's a difference.
- 5:41I mean, anybody who's driven a car without power steering knows that.
- 5:44It's much easier to turn the wheel when the vehicle is moving than
- 5:47when the vehicle is stationary.
- 5:49Granted, this shouldn't be happening, but I've never tested this with
- 5:52any other drive by wire car.
- 5:54I would like to think that it doesn't happen.
- 5:55Who's turning the steering wheel like that?
- 5:57That's an invasive maneuver.
- 5:59Invasive maneuver.
- 6:00Not the way he's doing it.
- 6:01You're going to roll that.
- 6:05Exactly.
- 6:05And that's what I was thinking too.
- 6:07I was like, if you're turning that hard at speed, you are basically going
- 6:11to instigate a rollover situation.
- 6:13You shouldn't be turning that much that quickly.
- 6:16Still, I mean, to their point, it's obviously exaggerated.
- 6:19Maybe there is something to the input delay.
- 6:22I don't know.
- 6:23You know, that's a Tesla problem or a technology problem.
- 6:28Doesn't Lexus have one of the cars that has the drive by wire as well?
- 6:33I can't remember now.
- 6:33There was something about theirs too.
- 6:35I think it was still better than this, but maybe not even perfect either.
- 6:40Isn't that how they do the self parking system as well, where everything is
- 6:44controlled by the computer and it's turning the wheels and all that, so it
- 6:47has to be like drive by wire in that way?
- 6:49There are a lot of cars out there that are drive by wire.
- 6:50I believe my R32 is drive by wire.
- 6:53Only on the throttle.
- 6:54Nothing else.
- 6:55Oh, yeah, that's true.
- 6:56We are talking about the steering here.
- 6:58That's right.
- 6:58Okay.
- 6:58Yeah.
- 6:58Now what's scary is the cars that are brake by wire, where there's no relation
- 7:04between the pedal and what's happening at the calipers, that To me is scary.
- 7:08That's why you need that brain input that Elon Musk is trying to sell that way.
- 7:12You can just, all you gotta do is think about breaking and it's going to happen.
- 7:16Oh, okay.
- 7:17No need for a foot.
- 7:18That explains why the wiper blade stuff is buried in the menu system.
- 7:22You're just supposed to be like Spock and mind meld with the cyber truck.
- 7:26And then the wiper starts working.
- 7:27My thoughts to your thoughts.
- 7:32I take it that's a Star Trek reference.
- 7:34Yeah.
- 7:35What gave it away?
- 7:37I've never driven a car with this feature to it, but what would be
- 7:41more concerning is the numbness.
- 7:44Does it have force feedback?
- 7:46Is that a Thrustmaster?
- 7:48Did they put the wrong Thrustmaster in there?
- 7:50No!
- 7:50See, think about it.
- 7:52How numb that steering wheel must be.
- 7:54If it's not connected to anything.
- 7:56They gotta upgrade to that Fanatec.
- 7:58Where's your sensation?
- 8:00Legitimately, where's the force feedback?
- 8:02Oh my god.
- 8:02Well, don't they have the ball tickler?
- 8:04There's the sensation.
- 8:05My Mark VI Volkswagen had electric assist, but it was still obviously all mechanical.
- 8:11So that, you really couldn't tell the difference.
- 8:15So much versus like a hydraulic assisted car from the old days, but yeah, a
- 8:19totally drive by wire system like this.
- 8:22I've only driven a couple model threes and I just thought they felt numb in
- 8:26general, but then again, I'm looking at it with a different lens than your
- 8:30standard daily driver commuter person.
- 8:32So I would want it to react a little differently.
- 8:35I've been in a Tesla on track.
- 8:37What I walked away from was that they feel heavy because they are heavy.
- 8:40You know, that's a whole nother discussion.
- 8:42All this drive by wire, fly by wire stuff.
- 8:45You know, what's wrong with a cable?
- 8:47What's wrong with a brake pedal that pushes liquid?
- 8:49I don't know.
- 8:50All this extra complication for things that are just going to break.
- 8:53Yeah.
- 8:54Bye bye.
- 8:55Yeah.
- 8:55Right.
- 8:55So we'll put a pin in that for now, because there's always more Tesla and
- 8:58cyber truck shenanigans happening.
- 9:00So let's get into our showcase here.
- 9:01So we mentioned at the beginning, we're coming off of some, what should I buy?
- 9:05So it's been in my head for a while that I've been roasted a couple of times.
- 9:09I keep saying that every new car is 50, 000 and you guys keep telling
- 9:12me, no, no, no, that's not true.
- 9:13You can buy something that you would like for less than 50 grand and
- 9:17I'm like, okay, so you know what?
- 9:18I put pen to paper and I started doing research and clicking around and.
- 9:21Doing the build my own kind of stuff, but it also dawned on me.
- 9:25I can't just go try and buy what I want or what I would choose as my next daily
- 9:29driver, because I was spending a lot of time behind the windshield since the
- 9:32last drive through, I started looking at the cars that are on the road.
- 9:36You know, I'm reading badges, trying to look at packages that
- 9:38people bought because I want to see what's kind of the general populace.
- 9:42And I can assume that they're SUVs.
- 9:45Nobody's buying cars anymore.
- 9:46Not really.
- 9:47And vans, I mean, whatever that's, you know, that's a whole
- 9:50different ball game of rarity.
- 9:51So what I did is I kind of pared down my shopping criteria and
- 9:54I said, midsize SUVs, which.
- 9:57Are larger than the 10 years ago.
- 10:01So I also had to kind of open my aperture there a little bit as well.
- 10:04So I said, not a C.
- 10:05U.
- 10:06V.
- 10:06and it's got to be a base model with all wheel drive and hybrid if it's available.
- 10:12And the only other thing that I know that I would want that my wife
- 10:15would run that most people buy is like the weather package, right?
- 10:18We want the monster mats and we want the cargo liner.
- 10:21Whether we're millennials or Xenials or Gen Xers or whatever the hell generation
- 10:26we're considered now, I have no clue.
- 10:28I went with millennial gray.
- 10:30And there's a good reason for picking that too.
- 10:31So I'm going to go through all this.
- 10:33Who are we buying for Eric or somebody else?
- 10:35When I looked at this and I did the research, I'm like, what would
- 10:38somebody in the middle of Ohio buy?
- 10:40So I said, all right, let me go down to my local virtual car dealership.
- 10:45And the first one on the list was Honda.
- 10:46Sorry, I heard Honda and my eyes glazed over.
- 10:48Um, so.
- 10:50Apparently your ears did too.
- 10:51Paying 50, 000 for a Honda seems outrageous.
- 10:54Midsize SUV.
- 10:56What did I choose?
- 10:57CR V Sport Hybrid.
- 10:59MSRP 34, 350.
- 11:01Options that I needed to add to meet my shopping criteria, all wheel drive.
- 11:05And did you know that gray paint out of all the cars that we're going to
- 11:08talk about, including this Honda, you pay extra to get gray, whether
- 11:13it's gray or silver or pewter or some sort of combination, right?
- 11:16And then you add the all season protection package.
- 11:19Everybody's got a kind of different name for it.
- 11:21Brand new CRV sport hybrid 38048 before taxes, tags, and all the other fun stuff.
- 11:27And I said, okay, that's cool.
- 11:29All right.
- 11:29My next part of this adventure was as I got like to the third or fourth car,
- 11:34I'm like, but wait a minute, because everybody keeps telling me because
- 11:37chips and there's no cars and that, so I said, search inventory for any matches.
- 11:44To what I wanted to buy.
- 11:46But a lot of dealers don't stock base models.
- 11:49Right.
- 11:49They'll have one or two to get you to come in the door, but then they upsell
- 11:53you to all this other stuff as well.
- 11:55Here's the inventory that we actually have for only 100 more
- 11:58a month on your monthly payment.
- 12:00And again, I'm not asking for a whole lot.
- 12:02The base package with all wheel drive in gray with an all season package,
- 12:06which is again, just mats and a cargo liner nationwide inventory of that CRB.
- 12:13Six cars, six.
- 12:15So that meant if I were to roll down to the local Honda dealership, they
- 12:19wouldn't have what I wanted, especially not at 38, 000, I could get stuck
- 12:24with something else and you know, the people are doing that, but they're just
- 12:27like, man, I don't have time to wait.
- 12:29I'm just going to buy what's here.
- 12:30I don't really care.
- 12:31I just need a car, you know, whatever it is.
- 12:33Maybe you could pay the base price of 34, 000.
- 12:37Or you could end up paying way more than 38, 000 by the
- 12:40time it's all said and done.
- 12:41Sometimes I want a base model because we had the discussion last time.
- 12:45If you want to soup it up or, you know, put modifications and stuff
- 12:48on it, you don't need to buy what the dealer is trying to sell or
- 12:51what the manufacturer put together.
- 12:52Cause you're just going to mess with it anyway.
- 12:53Not to be outdone, I'm going to look at slightly larger cars in the Honda fleet.
- 12:58So I looked at the pilot.
- 12:59Starts at 30, nine, nine.
- 13:01And then we've talked about the new prologue and here we are getting that
- 13:05much closer to that mythical 50, 000.
- 13:07The prologue starts at 47, four.
- 13:10So what can you buy for 50 grand from Honda?
- 13:13Any of those three cars that I mentioned, but taxes, tags, fees,
- 13:16and any other options are going to inch you closer to 000 number.
- 13:20Am I trying to buy at 50, 000 or.
- 13:23under 50, 000.
- 13:24No, you guys told me that there are tons of other cars out
- 13:28there for less than 50, 000.
- 13:30I'm on the build list.
- 13:31And if you're just darting MSRPs, the HR V is 25, 000, the 000, the CR V hybrid is
- 13:3735, 000, the Pilot's 40, 000, the Passport is 42, 000, the Prologue SUV is 47, 000,
- 13:45the Civic sedan is 24, 000, the Accord, which is 25, 000, Looks the same as a
- 13:49civic sedan is 28 . Nobody buys those.
- 13:53They're cars.
- 13:54Nobody buys cars.
- 13:55That's the whole point.
- 13:56They buy SUVs.
- 13:57Every single thing on Honda's page.
- 14:00They have 26 cars available.
- 14:01All under 50 grand starts under.
- 14:04But to Eric's point, once you add options, 'cause he had specific option criteria.
- 14:09It took the price up.
- 14:10His next point was search available dealer inventory.
- 14:14They only had six nationwide of his particular criteria.
- 14:18Next up, you'd have to get into a different vehicle.
- 14:21I mean, yeah, you went and looked at base models.
- 14:23So when you put it in those terms, yes, manufacturers technically are offering
- 14:29these cars, but I see where you're going where people aren't actually buying.
- 14:33Cars that are in that price range.
- 14:36So I, I understand what you're doing now.
- 14:38I want it to be fair because I've been accused too.
- 14:40And I know that I'll do this because it's a lot harder to add all the
- 14:44whiz bang, cool, fun stuff later.
- 14:46So I'm always like, man, buy the biggest, baddest one there is,
- 14:49because you won't regret not having it later when you have all the options.
- 14:53But I wanted to be real because people don't shop like that.
- 14:56And I've been told that's not how people shop.
- 14:57So I said, fine, I'll go to the other side of the pendulum swing.
- 15:00And I'll start with a base model in all the categories of what
- 15:03I considered domestic cars.
- 15:06People probably scratching their heads going Honda.
- 15:07Well, a lot of those Hondas are built here in the United States.
- 15:10Toyota, the same thing.
- 15:12Eric, let's do an experiment.
- 15:13Can we find out what is the number one best selling vehicle
- 15:16in the country right now?
- 15:18That's the Ford F-150.
- 15:19We already know that.
- 15:20I thought it wasn't.
- 15:21I thought they got beat out Well.
- 15:22Okay.
- 15:22Okay.
- 15:22Well that's, that's a good place to start.
- 15:24Ford F-150.
- 15:24Surprise surprise.
- 15:26Once you get past the F-150 and the Silverado, the third
- 15:29on the list is the RAV4.
- 15:31Yeah, you were spot on looking at the RAV4.
- 15:33And then after that, the RAV4 comes the ram and then the crv.
- 15:37So that's what people are buying.
- 15:39And then we can go in and price a Ford F-150 and that'll tell us if
- 15:42that's the number one selling car.
- 15:44I don't think you could buy one for under 50 grand.
- 15:46Can you?
- 15:47Well, there you go.
- 15:47Then to Eric's point, people are not paying less than 50, 000 for a car.
- 15:51Because if you look at the statistics of what the number one selling vehicle
- 15:54in the country is right now, and if it's not less than 50, 000, Oh, no,
- 15:58I just assumed started already at 50.
- 16:00They actually don't know.
- 16:02F one 50 started in the thirties.
- 16:03And then usually trucks have really big rebates.
- 16:07I know whenever I was looking, you could get at least eight to 10, 000 in rebates.
- 16:11At any given moment when purchasing a truck, a simplified version of this is
- 16:16what are the top five number one best selling cars in the country right now?
- 16:19So I was trying to discount the outliers because there are plenty of
- 16:24Corollas and other stuff on the road.
- 16:26And there are plenty of F one fifties, a majority of trucks,
- 16:30Silverados or Dodge Rams or whatever.
- 16:34Because there's a high concentration of that, but let's just say
- 16:36you're an average, normal person.
- 16:38What are they buying today?
- 16:40They're buying a CRV.
- 16:41No, they're buying a CRV.
- 16:42They're buying a RAV4.
- 16:44They're buying an Equinox.
- 16:45They're buying a Ford Edge.
- 16:47So I started looking at those and what do they have in common?
- 16:50Midsize SUV with all wheel drive, because everybody's got this fantasy that we
- 16:53have to have all wheel drive now too.
- 16:55So nobody buys the front wheel drive base models.
- 16:57And what the dealerships have done.
- 16:59Is they've gotten smart and all wheel drive is an add on.
- 17:03But if you look for a base, base, base, vanilla front wheel drive
- 17:07SUV, there's like zero, right?
- 17:09There were barely any base all wheel drives out there when I was looking.
- 17:13Buy a RAV4 all wheel drive for under 30 base.
- 17:16He's buying those.
- 17:17They're buying hybrids.
- 17:18So you have to add the hybrid.
- 17:1932, 000 is the starting price.
- 17:21So the hybrid was one of Eric's criteria.
- 17:23Yes, it has to be hybrid now.
- 17:25You have to fit into his sandbox.
- 17:27Okay.
- 17:27What's the point of that?
- 17:28The point is Keep the car you have because it's not worth going
- 17:32to buy a new one unless it died.
- 17:34There you go.
- 17:34You hit the nail on the head.
- 17:36Exactly.
- 17:37So that's always the answer to the argument.
- 17:38It's always cheaper to keep her.
- 17:39You know, there are a good percentage of CRVs and RAV4s and Ford Edges
- 17:44and things like that on the road.
- 17:45But when you start really looking at Maybe what people are driving
- 17:48in certain geographical areas.
- 17:51Let's say in the DMV versus the middle of Arkansas, it's going to be different.
- 17:56You know what I mean?
- 17:57Because the cost of living is different and there's a certain like level of status
- 18:00when we go down the beltway here, all we see is Audi's and BMW's and Cayenne's and
- 18:05the major part of the cars on the road.
- 18:08In a high populous area, especially in a much more affluent area
- 18:12are going to be more expensive.
- 18:13So when I go down the road, I feel like a cheap bastard because I'm in an old car
- 18:17at the time it was expensive, but compared to what people are rolling around.
- 18:20And now I'm driving a base model when I had the top of
- 18:23the line model 10 years ago.
- 18:25And it's just like, what they're paying is mind boggling.
- 18:28That's the whole thing.
- 18:29And so when I went and looked at this cross section.
- 18:32It's the usual suspects, the CRV, the RAV4, the Edge,
- 18:36blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 18:36But as I dug a little bit deeper and I started looking at like, I
- 18:42couldn't even find anything to buy.
- 18:44Chrysler's got one vehicle.
- 18:45The other Pacifica Dodge like has nothing at the moment.
- 18:49And then Jeep just 86, a bunch of their stuff.
- 18:52So you're left with the Jeep Cherokee, which is the only thing
- 18:55I could make as a comparison.
- 18:56And even there, you're coming in at 50.
- 18:5840, 000 optioned out the way I did it.
- 19:01All wheel drive, gray paint, all season, weather package, all that kind of stuff.
- 19:04But there were none available.
- 19:06You couldn't get a base model Cherokee.
- 19:07Everything was a Trailhawk, which then jumps the price up.
- 19:11So then what's the price of a Grand Cherokee?
- 19:14And they tout on their website, 36, 500.
- 19:16But.
- 19:17If I add the hybrid and all this other stuff, I was suddenly at
- 19:2061, 000 and jeeps sell like crazy.
- 19:24We know that I didn't even want to look at the price of Wranglers
- 19:27because we talked about this before they've gone through the roof.
- 19:29So then I said, all right, I'm going to go back to my old stomping grounds as much as
- 19:34it pains me to do this because I saw the commercial, like literally the day I was
- 19:37doing the research, the summer of savings, but they spelled it S A V W I N G.
- 19:43I was like, this is such a terrible commercial.
- 19:45So I was like, all right, you got my attention because I'm
- 19:47doing the homework anyway.
- 19:48I wasn't even going to look.
- 19:49There's nothing.
- 19:50So to meet my criteria, all you can buy is an ID4 standard.
- 19:53That's the base.
- 19:54It starts at 40, 000.
- 19:56And as soon as I started selecting anything, it didn't matter what it was.
- 20:00You're just like, okay, ID4 standard.
- 20:02I don't understand what was going on with the configurator.
- 20:0441, 000.
- 20:06Like it was like a 2, 000 jump immediately.
- 20:08And I don't even know what the hell was going on.
- 20:10The other thing is the ID four is rear wheel drive.
- 20:12And I'm like, what?
- 20:14There's no all season package.
- 20:15I could get it in gray.
- 20:16And then if you wanted the all wheel drive, you had to opt for
- 20:19the ID four Pro, which then moved me basically right to $50,000.
- 20:23I'm like $50,000 for a vw.
- 20:25That's not gonna happen.
- 20:26I drew a line at $35,000 for a Volkswagen 50,000.
- 20:30I'm not giving them 50 grand.
- 20:32But then if you look at the used car market, it's still just as crazy.
- 20:35So what do you buy for under 50 grand?
- 20:39You buy these midsize SUVs, if you can find them with very, very minimal creature
- 20:45comfort add on things that you might want, because some of the packages that
- 20:49come with these vehicles are super cool, but you're jumping five grand every time
- 20:53you want to add something, you know, you want this stereo package or you want
- 20:56this thing or this other it's, it's nuts.
- 20:59It's shenanigans.
- 20:59It's collusion.
- 21:00100%.
- 21:01So what did I learn?
- 21:03I learned that some configurators are better than others.
- 21:06They're also very different and some are extremely awful.
- 21:09I had some problems with a bunch of, um, compatibility with
- 21:12browsers and stuff like that.
- 21:13I also realized that the whole Burger King, you can have it your way thing.
- 21:18That ain't happening either.
- 21:19You know, there's been talk from Volvo and Ford about how
- 21:22you can order it all a cart.
- 21:23Yeah.
- 21:23I didn't see any of that.
- 21:24I went to those websites just for giggles.
- 21:27Nope.
- 21:27But you can still walk into a dealership and place an order
- 21:31for a car to get exactly what you want within the manufacturer's.
- 21:35Parameters if you want to wait six months, sure.
- 21:38I've done it before.
- 21:39That is one way people can actually get what they want if
- 21:42you're willing to wait for it.
- 21:43That's the whole thing.
- 21:44Like nowadays we don't even like the buying process.
- 21:47We don't even want to talk about the car Vanna's and all that kind
- 21:49of stuff to make buying easier.
- 21:51So the dealer process is a little like, we all just like, can I just order
- 21:55it and have it show up via Amazon?
- 21:56And they dropped my car off.
- 21:57The builders are kind of stupid.
- 21:59Because when it comes to that inventory search, you're literally just better
- 22:03off going down to your local Ford dealer and seeing what they have on the lot and
- 22:06then just be happy with what they have.
- 22:08And the other thing is if you do the nationwide search for cars,
- 22:12which is really interesting.
- 22:14If you went down to your local dealership and they didn't have what you wanted
- 22:17in the old days, you could do what they call the DX, which was a dealer exchange.
- 22:21They would take something off their lot and they would swap with another dealer.
- 22:23That way, they weren't out the car and they're making the sale.
- 22:26And there's all this backdoor stuff going on.
- 22:27There are now so many hefty destination fees to do something like that, that
- 22:32they're trying to persuade you never to do a DX again, forcing you into that
- 22:36position of just be happy with what we have on the lot, the buying process.
- 22:40I don't want to have to go through it again.
- 22:42If I don't have to, I think that's where I was at the bottom line.
- 22:45I guess at the end of the day, when you look at this list of data, which we'll
- 22:48have in the show notes, Are any of these cars something that if you needed a
- 22:51new car today, do that summer savings close out of the 24 models because the
- 22:56new ones are right around the corner.
- 22:57September is the 2025 year for cars.
- 23:00Would you buy anything off this list?
- 23:02No, first of all, I think all of that's bullshit.
- 23:04I think you buy a car when you need a car and that's just when you buy a car, you
- 23:09don't, Oh my God, they're having a sale.
- 23:10I have to go buy the car.
- 23:11Now, if you don't need a car, don't go buy a car.
- 23:13I just priced a GR Corolla circuit edition.
- 23:18Done.
- 23:19I don't want to use a little trash on your list.
- 23:21I got a deal for you, though.
- 23:23You know what the biggest bargain I found was?
- 23:25You know what you should buy, Tanya?
- 23:26You can get a brand new 2024 Chevrolet Malibu 26995.
- 23:33Optioned out.
- 23:3426995.
- 23:36Yeah, okay.
- 23:39Going back to all the times that we bring this up when we talk about it, yes, you
- 23:43can buy a car for less than 50, 000, but is that the car you want to drive?
- 23:47Is that the car you want to be stuck with for the next 10 years?
- 23:50A GR Corolla Circuit Edition?
- 23:51Yeah, but you're spending 50, 000 for that.
- 23:54If you're telling me I have to spend 50, 000 on something, I'd
- 23:57rather have that than a RAV4.
- 23:59I don't know, Brad, C63 AMG Mercedes used?
- 24:03You'd probably get that for less than 30, 000.
- 24:05I thought we were buying new from the dealer.
- 24:07There's options on the table.
- 24:09That's all I'm saying.
- 24:10But yeah, so, so we stopped talking about the normal car buyer and we started
- 24:14talking about the enthusiasts, which takes us into a whole different realm.
- 24:18One point I was trying to stretch my budget to get a black series because
- 24:21you could get one for around 60.
- 24:23The first gen, the CLK black series, they were hovering around 60 grand.
- 24:27I don't know what they are now.
- 24:28Probably higher.
- 24:29I was like, you know, I could make that work.
- 24:31I still wouldn't be able to buy a 50, 000 Toyota, I don't think.
- 24:34Just think about that.
- 24:35We talked about this before, the price of the Volkswagens, where the GTI is going
- 24:39to be with the Mark VIII and a half.
- 24:40So if the GR Corolla is there, the Golf R is going to be 50, 000.
- 24:45For sure, because they got to compete.
- 24:46320 horsepower competition?
- 24:49Well, I don't think we've actually figured out which of
- 24:51these cars are we going to buy.
- 24:53Okay, so now we're forced to choose off this list.
- 24:56Yeah, if you had to pick something off this list, what would it be?
- 24:59Honda CR V, RAV4, Ford Edge, Chevy Trailblazer, Jeep Cherokee.
- 25:04VW ID4.
- 25:06No, I don't want any of these.
- 25:08God, I have to choose.
- 25:09I would do the ID4 rear wheel drive, and I would slap on some extra Ryobi batteries
- 25:15to get a little more juice out of it.
- 25:16I'd pick the Jeep all day long.
- 25:18I like the Stellantis products these days.
- 25:20I think I would go with that.
- 25:21I know what I'm getting into.
- 25:22I know what the all wheel drive's like.
- 25:24There's certain things about the Jeep that have just become sort
- 25:26of second nature now, so I think that's where I would spend my money.
- 25:29Can I get the Trailhawk?
- 25:31Yes, those are available.
- 25:33I'd probably get that.
- 25:34She says with complete disdain, she's like a total reluctance.
- 25:41I have to, I guess I'll buy a Jeep as of July, 2024, the average
- 25:45transaction price for a new car in the U S is 47, 000 January, 2023.
- 25:52The average new car transaction price was 49, 004 68.
- 25:56So it has come down a little bit.
- 25:58Yeah, you did all that research when we just needed two quick Google searches.
- 26:02You know, I can't win for trying, that's for sure, right?
- 26:05Well, that said, I did a lot of homework.
- 26:08I was very proud of myself.
- 26:09It wasn't nearly as boring as my gas guzzling NPG calculations the
- 26:13last time I started doing homework between drive thru episodes.
- 26:16Let's move on to our regularly scheduled ranting and raving.
- 26:21So this brings us into Volkswagen, Porsche, and Audi news.
- 26:24And last month, like I mentioned before, we spoke about the Mark 8.
- 26:285 GTI.
- 26:29The rumor on the street is the GLI is coming back and it
- 26:33will be coming with a manual.
- 26:35We got to put might.
- 26:36And air quotes might come with a manual.
- 26:39You mean like the book that tells you how to do everything in the car, right?
- 26:42That type of thing.
- 26:42Yeah.
- 26:43Yeah.
- 26:43That's, that's the manual I was thinking of too.
- 26:45Yeah.
- 26:45Yeah.
- 26:45Do they even come with those anymore?
- 26:47Is it like a QR code that you could go online for?
- 26:49QR code in the glove box.
- 26:51Which is super convenient when you're stuck on the side of the road and
- 26:54your cell phone's dead and you're like, how do I change the tire?
- 26:57My wife's car, which is a 2022 still has the book.
- 27:00I think that's for that very reason that Eric just pointed out is why.
- 27:04Manufacturers still put the book.
- 27:05Now you may have to pay extra for it.
- 27:06I don't know if it comes with the vehicle.
- 27:08Don't give him any ideas.
- 27:09I read this as the next Passat is coming with a manual transmission
- 27:13because the Jetta's huge.
- 27:14Yeah.
- 27:15But again, who's buying Jettas?
- 27:16I don't really see them too much on the road except for the old ones.
- 27:19Like there's so many Mark V Jettas on the road.
- 27:22It's nuts.
- 27:23I don't see a lot of Volkswagen period.
- 27:25I don't see any Volkswagen.
- 27:27Since diesel gate, they've all disappeared.
- 27:29Yeah.
- 27:29I don't see anything older than mark seven down here.
- 27:32VW is in crisis though.
- 27:34You heard about this?
- 27:353.
- 27:358 percent drop in sales in China.
- 27:40Spells bad times for Volkswagen.
- 27:42Does it?
- 27:42I guess.
- 27:43I don't know what their sales volume is in that region.
- 27:45It was 3.
- 27:458 percent higher last time.
- 27:49Whatever it was, it was 3.
- 27:508 percent higher.
- 27:51We remember when we talked about how they let the guy that designed the ID
- 27:55buzz and all the fun stuff, they kind of kicked them to the curb and we were like,
- 27:59what in the heck is going on over there?
- 28:01Well.
- 28:02Volkswagen in response to the drop in sales and this and that because remember
- 28:06VW is outside of the GTI, you know, they're pushing hard this all EV stuff.
- 28:11So now they hired Andreas Mintz to come in and fix their crisis
- 28:16and they call it the ID crisis.
- 28:18And I was kind of digging into that going like, is this an identity crisis
- 28:21or does it have to do with all these?
- 28:23I D dot whatever's that they build in Europe that we never get, right?
- 28:27Because we only get the ID four and over there they have like the ID two
- 28:31and the ID three and the ID for GT and like all this other stuff that we've
- 28:36mentioned in previous episodes, you know, fun cars that we'll never get.
- 28:39When I read about he's the hero, he's going to revolutionize and the designs
- 28:44and this and that, I'm like, none of it matters to me because none of the cars
- 28:48he's working on are going to come here.
- 28:49VW is like the new General Motors.
- 28:52They are so lost.
- 28:53It's sad.
- 28:54Because their financials are so bad and everybody is woe is
- 28:58me over at Volkswagen and multi gajillion dollar company that it is.
- 29:02VW is taking away executives company Porsches to cut.
- 29:07Does anybody feel bad?
- 29:10So they don't get to drive around in Panamera.
- 29:11So they're going to give them a eight.
- 29:13Which are basically the same car, right?
- 29:14I mean, come on.
- 29:15I don't understand stuff like this.
- 29:17I mean, granted, we have stuff like this in the States, too, where it's
- 29:19like, Oh, you know, my 350 billion bonus this year, doo doo doo, they're
- 29:25gonna cut it down to 250 million.
- 29:27I don't know what I'm gonna do.
- 29:29You can buy your own car.
- 29:30Go cry me a river.
- 29:32The hell out.
- 29:32If a car manufacturer is giving somebody a company car, they should
- 29:36have to drive the shit they're trying to make everybody else buy.
- 29:39Thank you.
- 29:40A Toyota exec should be driving RAV4.
- 29:42Volkswagen exec should be driving a tour egg or, or whatever
- 29:46Tiguan Teon or a ta, whatever a.
- 29:50But I'll take a company car.
- 29:52Well, and I don't know how much this is drama llamas and hype and this and
- 29:56that, but then there's another article and this might be the most serious part.
- 29:59Volkswagen is looking to close its first plant ever in Europe.
- 30:05Shutting it down.
- 30:06It's one of the Audi assembly plants in Brussels.
- 30:09And I'm like, huh.
- 30:10So to me, that speaks volumes.
- 30:13It feels like that's the Holy grail, right?
- 30:15You're like, you're not going to mess with the EU.
- 30:17You'll shut down factories in the United States, move them to Mexico, or you'll
- 30:21build them in Brazil and all the, you know, the tactics that they've taken over
- 30:24the years, but here they're saying we're going to shut down a factory in the EU.
- 30:27So what does that mean?
- 30:29This says that they're closing their first EV factory.
- 30:31So this means that there may be a pivot.
- 30:34Pivot!
- 30:35We're pivoting!
- 30:35Pivot!
- 30:36From EVs back to gas.
- 30:39Yeah, it's something we've been preaching for the last, how many episodes?
- 30:42Yeah, but all the manufacturers have already come out and said that,
- 30:45but now they're reversing course.
- 30:47So, so this just comes on the heels of, yeah, okay, we're starting to
- 30:51change and the EV factory wasn't such a great idea in the first place.
- 30:56So now we're going to, what they should do is just turn it into
- 30:59something else, but maybe they don't have the money to do that.
- 31:02Yeah, but you know what?
- 31:03They do have the money for it.
- 31:05They're going to invest another 5 billion with a B into Rivian here.
- 31:09We are crying a river about, you know, taking away a company exec
- 31:13car, shutting down factories, but now you're investing more money into an EV.
- 31:17Build the Rivian in that Audi plant.
- 31:19I don't, yeah, I don't know.
- 31:21Like what is going on?
- 31:22Yeah, that doesn't make any sense.
- 31:25These articles are speculative and they don't actually know what's going on.
- 31:29They haven't probably had a conversation with any of the executives at Volkswagen.
- 31:33So they're just throwing stuff up against the wall and seeing what
- 31:36sticks and there could be other factors going on here as to why they're doing
- 31:42these things that we'll never know.
- 31:43So I say, We need more context for sure and we make fun all the time of the
- 31:49Cybertruck having all these recalls and you know, there's teething problems with
- 31:53every new car, but maybe part of the cost problem that they're faced with
- 31:58is recalls in the Volkswagen family.
- 32:01One of those things that people don't realize is, Hey, I took my
- 32:03car in for the recall and I didn't have to pay anything to get it done.
- 32:06Well, there's a cost associated with that.
- 32:07All the technicians that have to do the work and the parts they have to replace
- 32:10and the stuff they have to redesign.
- 32:12You know, if they did find a flaw, there's a whole supply
- 32:14chain that goes along with that.
- 32:16But this next one could be a significant punch in the gut from a financial
- 32:22perspective when you have to recall 271, 000 atlases because there's a problem with
- 32:28the airbag system in the passenger seat.
- 32:31That isn't cheap.
- 32:32What it's saying is that it will not inflate.
- 32:35Well, at least it's not a problem with the airbag itself.
- 32:38It's a problem with sensors.
- 32:39So that might be an easier fix, not to say that that is no cost, but be a lot less
- 32:44costly than having to replace the actual airbags because those aren't inexpensive.
- 32:50Well, some happy news, something you can't buy for less than 50, 000.
- 32:55The new street legal.
- 32:56Porsche 935.
- 32:58So a British firm has found a way to make this basically track only
- 33:02hypercar past the UK, and you can now drive 935 on the street.
- 33:07I think it's cool, but I don't know that I would want to commute in that.
- 33:10Sign me up.
- 33:11Really effective at the grocery store.
- 33:13But you look hella cool going to the grocery store.
- 33:15How much mulch can you fit on the wing?
- 33:17Zero.
- 33:17I mean, if you're super rich, I guess that's cool.
- 33:21No, you just kind of look douchey.
- 33:24Speaking of, let's talk about our friends in Lower Saxony.
- 33:27So the 8th series, which I thought was already dead, apparently is dying a slow
- 33:33death by a thousand owners or something.
- 33:36BMW is reportedly bringing back the 6th series.
- 33:40They've gone in the right direction with the grills.
- 33:42And nothing else.
- 33:46If you look at the blue one that's further down in the article, that
- 33:49looks like it might actually be a real car, not a rendering, although
- 33:51these days it's really hard to tell the deep fakes from the real thing.
- 33:54I kind of like it.
- 33:55I think this might be the best looking 6 series yet.
- 33:58It does retain some of the design language from the bangle period, six
- 34:03series where, you know, it had that kind of bucktooth beaver front end,
- 34:06and it had that trunk that looks like they bolted her on as an afterthought.
- 34:09So it still retains some of those lines, but in a more mature, almost like.
- 34:15Two door five series sort of way in the same way they did
- 34:18the M four and the M threes.
- 34:20I feel like this new six series is like the two door five series.
- 34:24It's a Mercedes with a BMW grill and badge on it.
- 34:28Why'd you have to call me out?
- 34:29That's what it looks like, especially in profile.
- 34:32That's not a six series.
- 34:34No, the badge on the back right there says 850.
- 34:37I said the same thing.
- 34:38If you go through the pictures, it's a six 50.
- 34:41I zoom in full size on the six.
- 34:44Yeah, it's a six 50.
- 34:45That'd be the smallest eight series ever.
- 34:47Okay.
- 34:47Carry on.
- 34:48I'm sorry.
- 34:48I was just so confused.
- 34:50No, but what they do hint at in these pictures, and there's
- 34:53like 200 of them at one point.
- 34:55They flash an M badge.
- 34:57Now, I don't know if that's an M 650 I or if it's an M six, you know, how
- 35:02these days, if you want a proper M it has to have competition next to it.
- 35:06I think I would be excited to see what BMW does with this.
- 35:09If.
- 35:10They go in the direction of an M six, but as you get further along in the pictures,
- 35:15there's also a four door version.
- 35:17There's been a four door six series though.
- 35:19I thought the six series was always a two door.
- 35:21I mean, it was a two door back in the old days, like in the seventies and stuff.
- 35:24Although that was the whole point.
- 35:25Yeah.
- 35:25They've had four or six series since.
- 35:28It was like the 6 Series Grand Sport or whatever, it was kind of along
- 35:31the same lines of the Mercedes CLS or SL, whatever that four door coupe
- 35:37thing that they were trying to sell.
- 35:38Well, you know, I, I ignore those cars, so that's fine.
- 35:42In profile, the four door, Looks like every other Maserati four door and or Jag.
- 35:48So I'm not really impressed with it.
- 35:49I think it looks much better as a two door.
- 35:52Yeah.
- 35:52Yeah.
- 35:52But here's one you can't ignore.
- 35:54I want this headline to sink in for a moment.
- 35:56I want to get your guys reaction to this.
- 35:59McLaren could lean on BMW.
- 36:02To enter the SUV segment.
- 36:05Say what now?
- 36:06Why not?
- 36:07Ferrari has one.
- 36:08Lamborghini has one.
- 36:10Porsche has one.
- 36:11Bentley, do they have one?
- 36:13The Bentyaga.
- 36:14There you go.
- 36:15So why not?
- 36:16Is nothing sacred anymore?
- 36:18Ferrari has an SUV.
- 36:19I think we've passed the point of sacred.
- 36:22Where's the Lotus SUV?
- 36:23Yeah, there is a Lotus SUV, but McLaren doesn't need an SUV.
- 36:27Come on.
- 36:27Neither does Lamborghini or Ferrari.
- 36:31Or arguably Porsche, but it goes back to what we were talking about
- 36:34earlier, because what do people buy?
- 36:35They buy SUVs.
- 36:37They don't buy cars.
- 36:38They buy SUVs.
- 36:39And this is definitely not going to be 50, 000 bucks.
- 36:41Would you like to guess what the price tag of this alleged
- 36:44McLaren SUV is going to be though?
- 36:45Six figures, 150, 000.
- 36:47So, you know, our mythical 50, 000 budget number at a zero, 10 times the size,
- 36:54half a million dollars for a McLaren SUV.
- 36:57It better be the Lando Norris edition or something.
- 37:00I mean, for that kind of money, it looks like they're trying to do a low
- 37:03volume, special edition kind of thing.
- 37:06Rich people things edition.
- 37:07It's going to have zero resale value in the future.
- 37:10Can you imagine going to like pebble beach or going to like a broad arrow auction or
- 37:15any of these where it's like, and rolling across the lot now is a 2025 McLaren SUV.
- 37:21Let's start the bidding at a cool 750, 000.
- 37:25No, that's not going to happen.
- 37:26How many SLS AMGs can I buy for 500?
- 37:30Three or four.
- 37:31A lot.
- 37:31You can buy some busted ones to harvest for parts too.
- 37:38Cause that's what I'm buying instead.
- 37:41We'll switch gears here and talk a little bit about domestic cars.
- 37:44And like always, we'll start with Stilantis.
- 37:48So this isn't really a Stellantis thing so much as it is an awesome thing.
- 37:53There's a company out there, Vigilante 4x4s, that are throwing
- 37:57800 horsepower Elcat engines into old school Grand Wagoneers.
- 38:03And I'm here for all of it.
- 38:05It is awesome until you see the price.
- 38:07And how much is that?
- 38:08Pray tell.
- 38:09Almost as expensive as the McLaren SUV.
- 38:11If they put a McLaren badge on this, it would be right.
- 38:14Here's my problem with the world today.
- 38:15Where are people getting all this money to buy?
- 38:20400, 000 40 year old SUVs.
- 38:23And we talk about how the economy is weak and inflation and this and that,
- 38:27and the cost of everything's going up 385, 000 for a 1988 Grand Wagoneer.
- 38:35With a Hellcat engine swapped into it.
- 38:36I mean, granted, it's turnkey, it's ready to go.
- 38:39You didn't have to do any of the work.
- 38:40Rich people, celebrities are buying it and driving it once and then
- 38:44parking it somewhere where they don't remember, but their secretary knows.
- 38:49It's a tax write off.
- 38:50385, 000, that's somebody's home, depending on where you
- 38:54live, but that's somebody's home.
- 38:55But can you drive your home at 807 horsepower?
- 38:59Dodge would like you to believe that you could tow your house with
- 39:01807 horsepower, I'm just saying.
- 39:03You can sleep in your Jeep, but you can't drive your house.
- 39:08Here's the thing.
- 39:09It's, it's still a 40 year old truck.
- 39:12And it's awesome.
- 39:14I mean, I love these things.
- 39:15I think they're super cool.
- 39:16I thought about getting one of these, unfortunately, breaking bad.
- 39:20Made the price of these things jump significantly because that's what Walter
- 39:24White's wife drove was a Wagoneer and everybody went, Ooh, the Wagoneer.
- 39:28Cause they kind of forgotten about it.
- 39:29Right.
- 39:30And you couldn't touch one for like less than 40 grand and they were ratted out.
- 39:34And I'm like, come on.
- 39:35Is 385, 000 justifiable?
- 39:37No.
- 39:38Is it still a 40, 000 truck?
- 39:40Without the Hellcat engine?
- 39:41Yes.
- 39:42When you look at it, it's the Singer philosophy.
- 39:45They went through every inch of this vehicle and redid it.
- 39:49So I understand the painstaking work that went into building this truck.
- 39:53What I don't understand is who's going to Pay 385, 000.
- 39:58Robert Downey jr.
- 39:59Is going to pay 385, 000.
- 40:01Yeah.
- 40:02And then he's going to put a fucking electric motor in it.
- 40:03Yeah.
- 40:04Yeah.
- 40:04Yeah.
- 40:04We all saw that show too.
- 40:06Right.
- 40:06God.
- 40:07Well, tell me a little bit about the engineering.
- 40:11Architectural, structural, robustness of the 1988 Jeep to handle 807 horsepower.
- 40:19It's stronger than the Durango that that motor came from.
- 40:21So that thing's built like a brick shithouse.
- 40:24It's body on frame.
- 40:25They redid all of the suspension.
- 40:27They, it looks like they redid the frame.
- 40:29So they've bolstered the Jeep.
- 40:31And that's why I was saying they were doing like the Singer model, where
- 40:33they went through a Wagoneer and redid every single inch of this vehicle.
- 40:39Okay.
- 40:39Which is like brand new and they're using top of the line parts.
- 40:43It's, it's Fox shocks and stuff.
- 40:44I can understand how it costs so much, you know, given the labor.
- 40:48And to me, this thing's kind of a work of art.
- 40:51It's beautiful.
- 40:52I don't understand how people would Pay that for that, just like I don't
- 40:56understand how people would pay 500, 000 to a million dollars for a singer.
- 41:00I understand the vehicle itself.
- 41:02I think it's beautiful.
- 41:03It's a work of art and everything, but I just don't understand where
- 41:06all this money is coming from.
- 41:07I guess only only fans and YouTube and Instagram is that
- 41:10where all it's all coming from.
- 41:12It's people that are in a realm so far above us.
- 41:16I don't know, Michael Jordan goes and buys one of these or
- 41:19something and that's like 20.
- 41:21Yeah, but there's a lot of new money right now too.
- 41:23There's a lot of people like either they're in debt way into the stratosphere
- 41:27or there's just this glut of money out there that we don't have access to.
- 41:32From who?
- 41:33Everybody in the planet that keeps clicking on YouTube videos.
- 41:36Okay, so how about your working class person?
- 41:40They're not buying this.
- 41:42They're not affording this.
- 41:43Even one of these YouTube influencers is somebody not in our realm either.
- 41:48I don't even understand how any of that works, but You're right.
- 41:51That's why you're working a desk job and not out there influencing on YouTube.
- 41:56Exactly.
- 41:57I'm the idiot.
- 41:59Clearly.
- 41:59I think all that stuff's gonna come full circle eventually, too.
- 42:02That said, since we were talking about what you can buy for 50, 000
- 42:07or less that's new and exciting, and as I poked Brad about before,
- 42:12the 25s are right around the corner.
- 42:14How about the new Ford Capri?
- 42:16It looks like a Polestar from the back.
- 42:18Yeah, it does.
- 42:19Either a Polestar or even a Urus, a little bit.
- 42:22Expected to have a 400 mile range.
- 42:24It is an EV.
- 42:26It is an SUV.
- 42:27And I take issue with the name from the word go because the Capri
- 42:31again, is sort of sacred ground.
- 42:34If anybody remembers the old Capris from back in the day, and obviously
- 42:37that Capri swan song was shared with the Fox body Mustang in the
- 42:41early eighties and things like that.
- 42:42But the Capri was like the British Ford Mustang.
- 42:45Our dad owned a Capri.
- 42:47They were super cool.
- 42:48I know a bunch of people that had Capris.
- 42:49Every time I see one, I think they're awesome.
- 42:51You put a Capri and an old Escort together.
- 42:53I mean, they're just delicious little cars, right?
- 42:55You're like, Oh, that's awesome.
- 42:56That's what I want.
- 42:57The new Capri, much like the Hornet and some of the other sort of retro named cars
- 43:02has nothing to do with its predecessor.
- 43:04So I'm just going to ignore the name for now.
- 43:08No, no, no, no, no.
- 43:09We can't ignore the name yet.
- 43:11What?
- 43:11Why not?
- 43:12Because.
- 43:13They're saying Capri stands for Cool Athletic Past Meets Future.
- 43:19Wait, that's not even the right acronym.
- 43:21That's not how you spell Capri.
- 43:22I know, I'm confused.
- 43:24C dot A dot P dot R dot I equals Cool Athletic Past.
- 43:28I got that far.
- 43:29And then, Meets Future Rebellious to its core and boasts intelligent technology.
- 43:34Boom.
- 43:35R.
- 43:35I.
- 43:36That was developed by one of these YouTubers.
- 43:38That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
- 43:41Yeah, they spelled crappy wrong.
- 43:44Crappy.
- 43:45That's good.
- 43:46I like that.
- 43:46Can you imagine walking into the dealership?
- 43:48Yes, I'd like to order the new Ford Cool Athletic Pass Meets Future Occult
- 43:52Classic Rebellious to its core and boasts intelligent technology, please.
- 43:57Base model?
- 43:58Yes.
- 43:58In ceramic mandarin pearl.
- 44:02Yeah, can I get millennial greige?
- 44:03Millennial greige.
- 44:05To stick with the Mustang theme, this should have just been
- 44:07called the Mustang II Mach E.
- 44:10I could see that as well if we're gonna go down that path.
- 44:12You know what does sort of make it wah wah though, is Ford has partnered
- 44:16with Volkswagen to build this.
- 44:17Do you guys realize this is an ID.
- 44:194 with a Ford badge on it?
- 44:21It's an ID.
- 44:224 a Polestar from the back.
- 44:25Is that the new EV mullet?
- 44:26ID4 Pulsar in the back.
- 44:29It's a Pulsar in the back half and a VW from the front half.
- 44:33This thing is suffering from its cool athletic past meets future rebellious
- 44:37to its core boasting an intelligent technology cult classic identity crisis.
- 44:41Identity crisis.
- 44:42There you go.
- 44:43You know what that is in German?
- 44:44I believe the word is Farfignügen.
- 44:47I honestly don't think we're going to get these in the States.
- 44:50Could be wrong.
- 44:51We didn't think we were going to get the Hornet either because that's
- 44:53the Alfa Romeo Tonale, but that ended up showing up on our shores,
- 44:57so maybe we'll get the new Capri.
- 44:58But I think it suddenly jumps into that bucket of cars that
- 45:03we were talking about earlier.
- 45:04It's not going to be nearly as expensive as the Mach E, which
- 45:07is slowly creeped up in terms of price every year that's gone by.
- 45:11But we'll see, I mean, it's really interesting also for them to be touting
- 45:15yet another all electric car when we're seeing the market soften on electric
- 45:19cars, we hit that like, you know, seven or 8 percent saturation it's plateaued.
- 45:24People are going back to gas.
- 45:25Manufacturers are going back to gas.
- 45:27People are still not convinced, you know, hybrid is the future.
- 45:29As we've been saying since like day one because of infrastructure
- 45:32and a million other things.
- 45:33So curious to see where this goes when the EcoBoost version of the Capri
- 45:38comes out, you have my attention.
- 45:40Last month we spoke about the Maverick, and how they're growing that
- 45:43offering, and I made a joke about the Ranger, which I guess the gods of the
- 45:47internet were listening on my phone or otherwise, but it popped up in my feed.
- 45:51Did you know that there's a Super Duty version of the Ranger?
- 45:54Nope.
- 45:55Not yet, but they filed a trademark for it.
- 45:57I think there's a lot of Duty, not a lot of Super in this.
- 46:01Yeah, okay.
- 46:02It's sort of like a T Rex, right?
- 46:03It's like, I've been scaring my wait, it has tiny little arms.
- 46:07It can only bite me.
- 46:08I think the Ranger should just go away.
- 46:10I don't get it.
- 46:11The mistake is the four cylinder EcoBoost.
- 46:13And I know it's a nod to the old Rangers being four cylinders, blah, blah, blah.
- 46:17But the cool Rangers were the ones where they swapped the Fox body
- 46:20motor into them, you know, big old 5.
- 46:210.
- 46:22I thought the Ranger should have been a six cylinder, even if it was normally
- 46:24aspirated, like the old six cylinder Mustang engine would have been better for
- 46:28it, because it's just such a big truck.
- 46:30In comparison to what it used to be, you know what I mean?
- 46:32I'm like, whatever.
- 46:34We haven't talked about Ford at Pikes Peak in a while, not since that super
- 46:37fast, 2000 horsepower transit van.
- 46:40Oh, but to be outdone with the audacious looking.
- 46:45Awesome.
- 46:46F 115 lightning super truck with quite the wang.
- 46:50It's a wang.
- 46:51It's a we gotta get right to wang.
- 46:53Quite the everything arrow on this thing.
- 46:55This thing is awesome!
- 46:57It is.
- 46:58You need to just slap Hoonigan on the side.
- 47:00It's right there, dude.
- 47:01And the best part is they've cut so much off of it, it doesn't
- 47:04even look like a truck anymore.
- 47:056, 000 pounds of downforce.
- 47:08The Viper only generates 4, 000 pounds of downforce, so that's pretty good.
- 47:12This is an F 150, like a NASCAR is a Camry.
- 47:16Yes.
- 47:17That's the only similarity is that.
- 47:18Yeah, there's no relation to the actual F 150 Lightning.
- 47:22No, this is a tube frame.
- 47:22I mean, look at the back.
- 47:23This is not an F 150.
- 47:24No, it doesn't have to be an F 150.
- 47:26This is awesome.
- 47:28It is awesome.
- 47:28Yeah.
- 47:29But to call it an F 150 is, it's not enough.
- 47:31I want to know how it did it.
- 47:32Pike speak though.
- 47:32I didn't find any results yet.
- 47:34Cause I think they already ran.
- 47:35Yeah, they did at the end of June, but I didn't see any results like,
- 47:38Oh, Ford captures the title with the F 150 lightning super truck.
- 47:42I didn't hear anything.
- 47:43Maybe it crashed.
- 47:44Super cool though.
- 47:45I love seeing stuff like this.
- 47:47I think this is awesome.
- 47:48And I think Ford needs to keep it up.
- 47:50That wing is ridiculous though.
- 47:51Wang.
- 47:52So moving on to Japanese and Asian domestic car news,
- 47:57I got thrown for a loop.
- 47:58We all have streaming packages that we paid extra for to not have commercials.
- 48:02We all seem to have commercials.
- 48:03I saw the latest one from Mazda.
- 48:05And did you know that the Mazda CX 90, which is the big SUV has an inline six.
- 48:10Did you notice there were no Mazdas on your, what should I buy list?
- 48:15I wonder why I thought that was interesting, right?
- 48:18Because if you think of inline sixes.
- 48:20If you're an enthusiast, your brain goes, Oh, 2JZ super.
- 48:26Or BMW, where did Mazda get an inline six?
- 48:29I'm not trying to throw shade at them, but I'm really curious.
- 48:33So the video I posted is not the commercial.
- 48:36It's more of an in depth video about the engine and how they designed it and
- 48:41how they designed the car around it.
- 48:43Why it's so important as a nerd, I found it super fascinating.
- 48:48So I'm really curious.
- 48:49To see what happens with this new engine that Mazda has come to the table with.
- 48:54Except they're also coming back to the table with another rotary.
- 48:57That's the second mistake they're making.
- 49:00I don't think the inline six is a mistake.
- 49:02I think it's kind of cool.
- 49:02Mercedes came out with a new inline six not too long ago as well, I thought.
- 49:06The first mistake is coming out with another SUV and not a new Miata.
- 49:10Could you imagine an inline six in a Miata?
- 49:12Dude, that'd be sick.
- 49:13That would be awesome.
- 49:14Or a turbo from the factory.
- 49:16We haven't had that since the NBs, the Mazda speed Miatas.
- 49:19Dude, it's time for a new Miata.
- 49:21Like, I hate to say, if we had an NE Miata, like the fifth generation,
- 49:25it needs to be bigger than the ND.
- 49:27I know so many people love the ND, Great.
- 49:30I like the NC.
- 49:32It's comfortable.
- 49:33The NC needed a two and a half liter, which is the common swap that
- 49:36everybody does from like the Fusion and all that, or a Turbo or whatever.
- 49:40I think we need a fifth generation Miata, not another
- 49:43SUV that nobody's going to buy.
- 49:44Because an SUV this big, a full size, if you're looking at it as like a
- 49:48status item, I kind of feel like you're wasting your money, right?
- 49:51You're going to buy a BMW X5, or you're going to buy a GL, or
- 49:55you're going to buy something else.
- 49:56You're not going to buy this.
- 49:58When you're going to spend 65, 000 or more on an SUV, Mazda is not
- 50:03the first dealership you go to.
- 50:05This should be an inline six rotor.
- 50:07Dude, that'd be like 787B territory, right?
- 50:10It'd be crazy.
- 50:11Yeah, that would be awesome.
- 50:12Meanwhile, Subaru would like to welcome everyone to 1999 because
- 50:17you can get a CD player in your WRX.
- 50:20Oh, stupid.
- 50:21Why?
- 50:22Here's the best part.
- 50:23It's 375 to 450 extra plus installation.
- 50:28And the comment is, but that's not a lot of money given that adding
- 50:31the CD player later could be too costly or complicated to be worth it.
- 50:36Let's take a pause here.
- 50:38Let's skip like the old CD players.
- 50:40I can go to Best Buy.
- 50:42They still make them.
- 50:43Portable CD player for as low as 24.
- 50:4599.
- 50:47I can get an aux cable, plug that Mitch in, stick it in the glove box, keep going.
- 50:51Guess what?
- 50:52A lot less than 3.
- 50:55When was the last time you bought a CD?
- 50:57Yeah, right.
- 50:59Tapes were great in the car because they didn't really care
- 51:04about the bumps in the road.
- 51:06The suspensions of the old cars aren't nearly as nice as the ones we have today.
- 51:09But CDs were like the worst media for cars.
- 51:12You hit a Marlboro cigarette butt and it was like, And then
- 51:17they start jumping around.
- 51:19All this shit would happen and you're like, Ah, this is horrible.
- 51:21It's like trying to have a record player in your car.
- 51:24No.
- 51:24Oh my God.
- 51:25Could you,
- 51:27we're going to vinyl.
- 51:29I'm just envisioning someone with a cyber truck and in the passenger seat,
- 51:33they've got their record player hooked up to the stereo and he's got the
- 51:37drive itself system on or whatever.
- 51:39And he's over there like trying to make sure the needle
- 51:41doesn't skip and scratches.
- 51:43Cause you know, vinyl has that high fidelity.
- 51:46It's got a much better sound.
- 51:48That digital I've listened to a lot of vinyl and a lot of digital, and
- 51:51I can't fucking tell the difference.
- 51:53All I hear is the crackling and the popping and the snap crackle
- 51:56pop, which is what we spent an eternity trying to get rid of.
- 51:59And now we're going back to this, turning the page a little bit.
- 52:04Toyota, as we mentioned, might be getting rid of the Supra.
- 52:08But they've teased the return of the Celica.
- 52:12Celica.
- 52:13The Brits like to call it the Celica.
- 52:15That's what Jeremy Clarkson used to always say.
- 52:17So the Celica might be coming back.
- 52:19I don't hate that in concept.
- 52:21Right?
- 52:22It's admittedly Maybe it's growing on me.
- 52:26It's more Supra than the current Supra.
- 52:28That's the problem.
- 52:29It's not Celica enough.
- 52:30It's got to be front wheel drive with an anemic four cylinder
- 52:34that looks like a Roach.
- 52:35They had all wheel drive Celicas, so we could be all wheel drive.
- 52:37That's acceptable.
- 52:38The last Celica was like the Toyota Paseo, and they stretched it
- 52:42out, and they called it a Celica.
- 52:44The front, it's not right.
- 52:45It's not right.
- 52:46I like it.
- 52:47The front looks like the Lexus race cars.
- 52:49That's what that looks like to me.
- 52:50It's too sharp.
- 52:51I like it though.
- 52:52It's very Transformers.
- 52:54I like it a lot.
- 52:54If that had a super badge and you told me that was the next
- 52:57Gen sra, I'm all about it.
- 52:58'cause I'm like, at least it doesn't look like a BMW.
- 53:01The last sica there was like the mousy one.
- 53:04Yes.
- 53:05The stretch EO sure was.
- 53:07I don't know remember what a EO looks like.
- 53:09I mean, I, I see where the design line or there, especially with the headlights.
- 53:13'cause that last Sica had the headlights that kind of triangled up.
- 53:17So it's sharing that the gor is obviously completely wrong.
- 53:19Very Lexus.
- 53:20But the Celica that I want it to look like is the older one with the
- 53:25round lights, the four track, which came as all wheel drive, because
- 53:28that was like the rally version.
- 53:30You're talking about with the pop up headlights.
- 53:31There's that one too.
- 53:32I wouldn't mind it looking more like that, but like the mid nineties Celica.
- 53:36You could get the four wheel drive version of it.
- 53:39Now it would also be cool with this design.
- 53:41If this never went anywhere, if we take that Toyota badge off and
- 53:45we put a Nissan badge on it, Tell me it doesn't look like the Z.
- 53:49Yeah, like you melded a 370 and a GTR together.
- 53:52I really like this rendering or otherwise.
- 53:54I think this is really, really cool.
- 53:57Well, that's my problem with it.
- 53:58It's like I'm having a crisis with the name with the car because the car
- 54:04is not even like horrible looking.
- 54:06It's like growing on me, but it's like, does not compute.
- 54:10It's not a Celica.
- 54:11It looks like something else, but it's not.
- 54:16Well, let's move on to random EVs and new concept cars.
- 54:21And we're not going to talk about anything new.
- 54:23And we're not going to talk on anything conceptual.
- 54:25What are we going to talk about here?
- 54:27Chevy Volts.
- 54:27People are saying they're coming back around on the Chevy Volt.
- 54:30They're saying it was ahead of its time.
- 54:33Was it now?
- 54:34Well, because plug in hybrid is the way to go.
- 54:36And now automakers are just catching up to where the Volt was.
- 54:40I heard the same story about the Aztec too.
- 54:42Yeah, because even a broken clock is right twice a day.
- 54:45Woo!
- 54:46We'll move on.
- 54:47So Brad, it's time for your favorite section, Lost and Found, where we're not
- 54:51going to look for anything on dealer lots.
- 54:53We're going to talk about really interesting stuff you can buy
- 54:56for any sorts amounts of money.
- 54:58So how about this?
- 54:59We talk about how bad the stainless steel is on the Cybertruck, how you
- 55:03gotta keep it clean, you gotta watch out for bird poop and all sorts of things.
- 55:06What about a Cybertruck that's been polished to within an inch of its life?
- 55:10Pretty cool.
- 55:10Whoever did this, mirror like finish.
- 55:14Yeah.
- 55:14It's almost camouflage when you look at it.
- 55:16It's a very wraith, stealth, Knight Rider.
- 55:19Is it worth 150, 000?
- 55:20Is it worth an extra 50, 000?
- 55:23No.
- 55:23How dirty does that get?
- 55:25I don't even know what to say.
- 55:27But that is how people are dealing with these Cybertrucks.
- 55:30Hate them.
- 55:30Raps.
- 55:31I have seen some black ones, because I guess they're wrapped
- 55:34or whatever, and they do look like the Wraith at that point.
- 55:37They're pretty creepy going down the road.
- 55:38Yeah.
- 55:39I don't think the Cybertruck looks good in any color.
- 55:42We can paint it blue, I mean, we can paint it yellow, orange, you know, these
- 55:45M& M colors that exist on, let's say, the Mopars and the Fords and stuff.
- 55:49There's no way.
- 55:50The body shape, it just doesn't work.
- 55:52It is cool, it's different.
- 55:54I mean, it is hyper polished, it looks like a mirror.
- 55:57I don't know that I would want that either.
- 55:59Nope.
- 56:00Texas size, hard pass.
- 56:02That actually segues us right into Teslagate, so we would be remiss
- 56:06if we didn't talk about Tesla.
- 56:10Oh boy, woe is them.
- 56:13Their sales are down.
- 56:14It's a significant number!
- 56:18I was listening to not popular radio, I mean NPR.
- 56:21And their finance reporting was saying 45 percent decrease in
- 56:25fictitious sales last quarter.
- 56:27So this is the second quarter in a row where Tesla is
- 56:30just sort of on the decline.
- 56:32That means it's probably a 75 percent decrease in actual math.
- 56:37I don't think their percent of sales fell 45 percent because they still are
- 56:42considered the largest share of EVs, their percentage of sales did decrease, but
- 56:49then arguably like everyone's has, right?
- 56:52This says their market share.
- 56:53If they're diluted, then that would only mean that that's because there's
- 56:57more people bringing EVs in, right?
- 56:59So it's like their numbers are the same, but their overall
- 57:03percentage goes down because there's people in the market, right?
- 57:06So, I mean.
- 57:07Are they having a problem?
- 57:08It's called competition.
- 57:09Well, it is.
- 57:10And it's BYD.
- 57:11It's the Chinese coming in and building a better product for less.
- 57:14Well, better.
- 57:15Well, you know, I'm trying to be nice.
- 57:17The bar's not high.
- 57:19They did have some quotes from our favorite friend, Elon.
- 57:22And you know, some of the things he was saying, he's still promising the
- 57:25self driving taxi and the cheaper model two or whatever they're calling it.
- 57:29Calling the, you know, the cheaper model three or whatever it is
- 57:32that they're going to put out.
- 57:32And it's all stuff that we've heard before.
- 57:35So at this point, I'm like, it's the boy who cried wolf.
- 57:38How many more times are you going to say that this is coming or that's coming?
- 57:40I was waiting for him to say, and when the Tesla roadster
- 57:43come, you know, like, come on.
- 57:45I don't believe it as far as I can throw it at this point.
- 57:47The Cybertruck has to be eating into them big time.
- 57:50It's the best selling electric pickup truck in the U.
- 57:53S.
- 57:53That's what I heard too.
- 57:55Is that some sort of new math?
- 57:57Considering how many electric pickup trucks there are to
- 58:00choose from, there's like three.
- 58:03And what does that mean?
- 58:04They produce them?
- 58:05That's selling!
- 58:06Everybody put a deposit down.
- 58:07Does that mean they sell?
- 58:08We're sold.
- 58:09I don't know.
- 58:10It should not.
- 58:11It's the estimated sales numbers.
- 58:13Well, maybe it is estimated sales number.
- 58:15I don't know because they also mentioned delivery number and
- 58:19we're well, what does that mean?
- 58:20Is it actual deliveries to person or to the Tesla parking
- 58:24lot where they're all parks?
- 58:25We've seen those pictures too.
- 58:27So Lotus does something like that where it's like orders.
- 58:30Received and then deliveries accomplished.
- 58:33And so it's when the consumer actually receives their
- 58:37vehicle, that's the delivery.
- 58:38We don't know what their definition is.
- 58:40No, because as we alluded to, when Brad's been shopping for his cyber
- 58:43truck, they could generate a VIN, like they generate a software key.
- 58:46So the thing's not even built yet.
- 58:48Yeah.
- 58:48I mean, I don't know.
- 58:49But what I do know is you can get DLC for your Cybertruck now.
- 58:53Downloadable content?
- 58:56What I mean by that is now we have add ons like the 300 tailgate
- 59:00cover and the jump seats and other things like that to accessorize.
- 59:05Do we really think the tailgate's strong enough for somebody to sit on?
- 59:09No.
- 59:09When the trim pieces Are flying off.
- 59:11No.
- 59:14And what's wrong with just sitting on your tailgate?
- 59:16Why does it need seats and a cover?
- 59:18I could see how bougie it would be to have like a seat when you're sitting
- 59:23there and kind of like recline, which you could also just go by like a beach chair.
- 59:27That's the super low, just sit on your tailgate.
- 59:29But there are other, I remember it's Ford or Chevy or GM or who it is.
- 59:34There is someone whose tailgates Are going to have like butt shape.
- 59:39So that's not new.
- 59:41That's not new.
- 59:41The Aztec had those.
- 59:42And I knew you were going to bring the Aztec tech.
- 59:47Well, they're bringing it back on some of the new models.
- 59:49Now it was also ahead of its time.
- 59:51Like the Chevy Volt.
- 59:52It's great to be ahead of your time, but always behind yesterday's technology.
- 59:56Tomorrow.
- 59:57That's GM's motto!
- 1:00:03Oh my god.
- 1:00:04Welcome back to 8 Track.
- 1:00:07The CD player is coming back in the car because that's really good.
- 1:00:10But you know what's ironically cool?
- 1:00:12Tesla Autopilot.
- 1:00:13Yeah!
- 1:00:14Did you see this latest one?
- 1:00:16I did.
- 1:00:16I thought they weren't supposed to call it that.
- 1:00:18I thought we covered this as a Florida person last time.
- 1:00:21Is that a Model Y?
- 1:00:22It looks like a Model Y.
- 1:00:23They all look the same from a distance, but yes.
- 1:00:25The headline reads Tesla autopilot mistakes train tracks for road and then
- 1:00:30the driver didn't immediately notice.
- 1:00:32Well, here's the thing.
- 1:00:34What kind of a hole are you?
- 1:00:36And maybe it's the angle of the picture and there was actually a road that crossed
- 1:00:39the train tracks, but I'm thinking not.
- 1:00:42Actually, because there's a sign that would indicate that
- 1:00:44there's no road going there.
- 1:00:46There's a T intersection.
- 1:00:47You let the car leave asphalt, onto gravel, down a ditch, up the ditch,
- 1:00:54onto the railroad tracks, turn and line yourself up with the tracks, and then go
- 1:00:59like, however many feet down the road.
- 1:01:01At what point Did you think something's not right here?
- 1:01:05It's when the melatonin gummies wore off and they came out of their deep sleep.
- 1:01:10Don't you mean the weed gummies?
- 1:01:11Yeah.
- 1:01:12I also question who took this photo?
- 1:01:16So that makes me wonder if it was staged.
- 1:01:18You can't trust anything anymore.
- 1:01:20Today.
- 1:01:20I'm also like, is this real?
- 1:01:22Or did some asshole be like, hold my beer, I'm gonna drive
- 1:01:24down the tracks on my Tesla.
- 1:01:26No, the photo was posted by the police department.
- 1:01:29So they probably took it for evidence.
- 1:01:31Oh, that's where the Tesla died.
- 1:01:33It was like a crime scene photo.
- 1:01:35That's what that is.
- 1:01:36Cause the suspension fell apart from riding down the railroad tracks.
- 1:01:39Oh, well, I mean, honestly, was it trying to use the third rail to charge?
- 1:01:44This little like R2D2 arm comes out and it's just trying
- 1:01:47to charge off the third rail.
- 1:01:48It mistook it for its mother.
- 1:01:51Are you my mother?
- 1:01:53Oh gosh.
- 1:01:54All right.
- 1:01:55So next up in Tesla buffoonery, we have problems with unintended acceleration.
- 1:02:01Oh God.
- 1:02:02Tesla Cybertruck.
- 1:02:03The accelerator may or may not disengage when the brake is depressed.
- 1:02:09What does the brake have to do with it?
- 1:02:10If I let my foot off the accelerator pedal, shouldn't it disengage?
- 1:02:15It's all digital.
- 1:02:16The ones and zeros are still flowing.
- 1:02:18But I don't rely on my brake pedal.
- 1:02:21To disengage my accelerator pedal.
- 1:02:24You do when it's a Thrustmaster pedal box that you're working with.
- 1:02:29Like, I feel like they're blaming the brake pedal, but there's more here.
- 1:02:33Like, the problem isn't the brake pedal.
- 1:02:34I blame the meat behind the steering wheel.
- 1:02:37On the same token, this is basic stuff, right?
- 1:02:40If it's an electronic software problem, it doesn't matter the meat behind the
- 1:02:44wheel, because it's not your fault.
- 1:02:46If you input and there's no output Again, this is why our insurance
- 1:02:52rates are going through the roof too.
- 1:02:53Which is probably why, though, cars at some point, and I don't know if
- 1:02:56it's standard on all of them, but like in the Volkswagens of a certain era,
- 1:03:00you stop being able to accelerate and essentially left foot brake for more than
- 1:03:05approximately literally three seconds because then it cuts the acceleration off.
- 1:03:09which was probably a safety reason, I would assume, so that some a
- 1:03:13hole didn't just keep pushing the accelerator down while they're trying
- 1:03:16to stop and then keep going forward.
- 1:03:17So the fact that this doesn't have a feature like that or that
- 1:03:21feature also broke because it's all electronically controlled.
- 1:03:24Because if the gas pedal did fail to disengage electronically, then there
- 1:03:30should have been another code written that said brake pedal engaged, no
- 1:03:33matter what's happening, cut off.
- 1:03:35I guess it's using the accelerator for the all wheel drive system, kind
- 1:03:39of as their I guess they're limited slip and traction control and stuff.
- 1:03:43Cause a Tesla representative said, we have reviewed logs and due
- 1:03:47to the terrain, the terrain, he said a freaking parking lot, the
- 1:03:53driveway he'd slammed into his house.
- 1:03:55It may have been a gravel drive in which he needed to activate you
- 1:04:00seeing a different article than I am?
- 1:04:01I can literally see painted lines on asphalt.
- 1:04:04They're reviewing why the back tire is locked.
- 1:04:07The accelerator may or may not disengage traction control.
- 1:04:13I mean, I'm assuming he's in it.
- 1:04:14It looks like he's like in his driveway.
- 1:04:16I don't know.
- 1:04:16Maybe this is like later he brought the car home.
- 1:04:18After he like hit a pole somewhere.
- 1:04:20No, I'm, I'm further down.
- 1:04:22There's another X post on Elon Musk's other business venture.
- 1:04:27In surveillance footage, the impractical pickup darted up a hill
- 1:04:30into a neighbor's house with the rear wheels completely locked up.
- 1:04:34The owner stated that the throttle and steering were unresponsive as he
- 1:04:37held the brake pedal to the floor.
- 1:04:39You can see the video of the truck going up the hill.
- 1:04:42He put down.
- 1:04:4350 foot long skin marks.
- 1:04:48Guys try to build 900 horsepower motors to do burnouts that long.
- 1:04:52Just saying all you need is a cyber truck.
- 1:04:54Now, all you need to do is lock your rear wheels.
- 1:04:56Remember when you guys made fun of me?
- 1:04:58And I said it was rushed to production and you're ha ha ha ha No, we didn't.
- 1:05:03I don't think we ever did that.
- 1:05:04I don't think we ever said that.
- 1:05:06Oh, yeah, you did.
- 1:05:07No, I don't think so.
- 1:05:08This thing was rushed to production.
- 1:05:10I'm just saying.
- 1:05:11But I think we used to say if this thing ever makes it
- 1:05:13to production, it's too soon.
- 1:05:14Just saying.
- 1:05:15There's so many problems with this thing.
- 1:05:17Ugh.
- 1:05:17When are they going to blame the tires or the input delay on the steering?
- 1:05:21The more we talk about the Cybertruck and Tesla and everything
- 1:05:24else, we're giving them free publicity as you like to mention.
- 1:05:27Has Elon gonna respond to this next one?
- 1:05:30Probably like a petulant child.
- 1:05:32Oh, the vandalism on the cyber trucks.
- 1:05:35I recall this now.
- 1:05:36Yes, they wrote duck, but with an f Elon on the hood of multiple ones.
- 1:05:41Wonder how that above outta stainless Tesla fans are saying they should sell
- 1:05:44the trucks as is is a limited edition.
- 1:05:46You know what?
- 1:05:47I could see him being like, I'll sign it
- 1:05:53How many of them did they do this to?
- 1:05:54It's a lot of them, isn't it?
- 1:05:56It says dozens.
- 1:05:57Well, inside of this article, they're talking about how they want to
- 1:06:00produce 2, 500 Cybertrucks a week.
- 1:06:02Who's buying these?
- 1:06:03Here's where I ask the question.
- 1:06:06Who's buying these?
- 1:06:07Who has the money?
- 1:06:08I don't know.
- 1:06:08He wants to put 150, 000 of them on the road by next year.
- 1:06:12There's 10, 000 YouTubers a month.
- 1:06:14They're gonna go buy it.
- 1:06:16No, I don't think so because these people don't drive, these YouTuber influencers.
- 1:06:20If you think about it, I think the recalls are always interesting
- 1:06:24because it gives you more real life numbers as to cars that are out there.
- 1:06:28So for instance, we talked about the Atlas, 271, 000
- 1:06:31cars that they have to fix.
- 1:06:32In the beginning, we mentioned the wiper recall for the Cybertruck.
- 1:06:35So realistically, 11, 000 trucks need to be fixed.
- 1:06:39So let's just say, This thing's been out since when, Brad?
- 1:06:42The beginning of the year?
- 1:06:43Yeah.
- 1:06:44So we're seven, eight months in now, and they've only really sold 10, 000 vehicles,
- 1:06:48or there's 10, 000 vehicles on the road.
- 1:06:50That's not great.
- 1:06:51I don't know how they're going to get to 150, 000 units by January.
- 1:06:55They're going to be sitting around on lots, knocking birds out of
- 1:06:58the sky because of the reflection.
- 1:07:00And a loss for words.
- 1:07:01Yeah.
- 1:07:02Normally at this point, I would say my expectations are thoroughly lowered, but
- 1:07:06I've been starting to think about it.
- 1:07:08Maybe we should rename it to, well, That's unfortunate.
- 1:07:12Right, Tanya?
- 1:07:13Apparently Goodwood was not so good for this Lotus.
- 1:07:18Did you see the video?
- 1:07:19I'm watching it right now on loop and I think we all know who
- 1:07:23we think is driving this car.
- 1:07:28And who's that?
- 1:07:28We can't say it on the air because I don't want to upset anybody.
- 1:07:332, 000 horsepower Lotus Evija didn't even make it.
- 1:07:36Four car lengths at best.
- 1:07:38And binned it.
- 1:07:40They did real bad, but it did a smoky burnout.
- 1:07:43I mean, it was an epic burnout, but here we go again.
- 1:07:47And they claim that it's this electric stuff, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:07:50It broke loose.
- 1:07:51One wheel gets away from the other one and then you can't control it.
- 1:07:54And it's just a nightmare.
- 1:07:55And what's wrong with a proper transmission.
- 1:07:58Why is it not all wheel drive?
- 1:08:00Yeah, when you're making 2, 000 horsepower to put it through the rear
- 1:08:02wheels, that seems kind of nuts to me.
- 1:08:04They should call Koenigsegg and ask him how they make their cars.
- 1:08:06Yeah, right?
- 1:08:07I'm sure Christian would be happy to share the secret.
- 1:08:09Yeah, for billions of dollars.
- 1:08:11We don't tell poop jokes too often on this.
- 1:08:15I think we told one earlier about the Ford Ranger Super Duty.
- 1:08:18And the crappy.
- 1:08:19Yeah.
- 1:08:19Yeah.
- 1:08:20Yeah.
- 1:08:21And the new Ford crappy EV.
- 1:08:23Oh yeah.
- 1:08:23Yeah.
- 1:08:23You got me there.
- 1:08:24I guess this is the hat trick then, because did you know the GM basically
- 1:08:29created a mobile incinerator?
- 1:08:30No, I never knew that.
- 1:08:32I went somewhere dark and twisted with this.
- 1:08:36This is like the RV that was in the movie Stripes.
- 1:08:39I mean, these GM motorhomes were around forever.
- 1:08:42They're kind of cool.
- 1:08:43Six wheel, the whole nine yards.
- 1:08:44But if you look into this groundbreaking technology that they created, basically
- 1:08:50every time you took a number two, it went out the tailpipe through this
- 1:08:54complicated system where you use the heat from the catalytic converters to
- 1:08:58basically incinerate your excrement.
- 1:09:00While you were going down the highway.
- 1:09:02Definitely not the, uh, French fry smell that you get from the biofuel.
- 1:09:06I'm intrigued.
- 1:09:08It gives a new meaning to biodiesel.
- 1:09:11A whole new type of smoke screening.
- 1:09:13It might even be better.
- 1:09:18Can you imagine though?
- 1:09:19You're like a mile behind this guy.
- 1:09:21You're going up a mountain road and you turn to your kids.
- 1:09:23You're like, Did you fart?
- 1:09:25What is that smell?
- 1:09:27There's farms?
- 1:09:28And you're looking around and there's no farms.
- 1:09:30I mean, you know, the typical road tripping story.
- 1:09:32Nope.
- 1:09:33Some guy in his GM RV going uphill, burning his poop.
- 1:09:36So if you like floored it, I guess it would incinerate it faster.
- 1:09:41So you want to drive real slow then, I guess.
- 1:09:42You want to cool the exhaust.
- 1:09:43No, no, no, no.
- 1:09:45Because this thing is so big and heavy, once it exceeds 30 miles
- 1:09:48an hour, the exhaust temperatures are already above 900 degrees.
- 1:09:52So they were like, we'll just put the poop down the chute, burn it.
- 1:09:56Done!
- 1:09:57So you don't even have to be going that fast.
- 1:09:58So it's 70 mile an hour.
- 1:10:00I feel like this is genius, right?
- 1:10:03Because what are you people with your diesel trucks doing now?
- 1:10:07You're buying deer piss to put into yours to do the exact same thing.
- 1:10:11Are you not more or less?
- 1:10:12Yeah, that's what death is.
- 1:10:13It's urea.
- 1:10:14Why not just bring back the system and you could use your own.
- 1:10:17I mean, it goes with the other part of the story.
- 1:10:18The GM is ahead of its time and everybody else is just trying to catch up.
- 1:10:22I like the name for this thing, though.
- 1:10:24The thermosan as in thermal sanitary, right?
- 1:10:27Thermosan waste reduction system.
- 1:10:30There's brochures, there's pamphlets, there's diagrams.
- 1:10:33Can you imagine having to service this thing?
- 1:10:36I love this part is a screen prevented solid waste from entering
- 1:10:39and clogging the system, which would have been hellacious to fix.
- 1:10:42Amusingly, Thetford, I guess the guy from the, uh, the, from the company, right?
- 1:10:46Call the exit an ejection orifice.
- 1:10:53That's awesome.
- 1:10:54Ejection orifice.
- 1:10:56Speaking of ejection orifices, this next one, it just begs
- 1:11:00the question, what compels.
- 1:11:03Someone to do something like this and it also goes back to our theme of where do
- 1:11:07people get the money to do this I want to know more about the counterweight
- 1:11:12on this I want to know how he didn't kill himself standing next to that fan.
- 1:11:16This is insane.
- 1:11:17He bolts a radial Aircraft engine to the back of a 70s beetle.
- 1:11:23This is nuts And it sounds terrible.
- 1:11:26And then what you take this to cars and coffee, how do you not
- 1:11:29get pulled over immediately?
- 1:11:31I just, I don't know what to say.
- 1:11:32I don't know.
- 1:11:33You make one false move coming around the back end of that car.
- 1:11:36You are dead.
- 1:11:38That thing is in sane.
- 1:11:40And I bet it drives like complete garbage, too.
- 1:11:43To your point, the counterweighting, I mean, just, ugh, awful.
- 1:11:46It's got a Hellcat motor in the front driving the front wheels.
- 1:11:48Oh!
- 1:11:50So that's how they balance it.
- 1:11:51Well, speaking of what compels people, we have an uncool wall nominee.
- 1:11:55Have you guys seen this thing?
- 1:11:56This was actually a real picture taken by my wife on a recent college tour.
- 1:12:01Please tell me your wife took this picture in Portland.
- 1:12:04It looks like a very Portland thing.
- 1:12:07No, she was in, uh, Philly.
- 1:12:09It was in Philly and she posted it in our discord and goes, what is this?
- 1:12:13And I actually didn't have an answer.
- 1:12:15We had to do some research on this one and it's the Myers Motors NMG.
- 1:12:20Didn't Jeremy Clarkson drive something like this to the offices at Top Gear?
- 1:12:23Well, that was a peel P 50, which it sort of looks like, but it's much, much
- 1:12:27bigger because look at it in reference to the scooter that's next to it.
- 1:12:30And I love the fact that they just happened to be together because now you
- 1:12:34have an idea of how goofy it is, but also.
- 1:12:37I think I would rather have that Yamaha scooter that's next
- 1:12:39to it than drive that thing.
- 1:12:42This thing is awful.
- 1:12:43So all I can say is go to our website, gtmotorsports.
- 1:12:47org, click on break, fix, and then go to uncool wall.
- 1:12:49And you can vote on this and like 65 other cars that have been nominated
- 1:12:54either through, what should I buy?
- 1:12:55Or the drive through or our staff picks.
- 1:12:57There's no shortage of just really freaky cars out there.
- 1:13:01And this is.
- 1:13:02Definitely one of them.
- 1:13:03But in the meantime, gotta switch gears and talk about rich people thangs.
- 1:13:07Sponsored in part by Garage Style Magazine, because after all, what
- 1:13:10doesn't belong in your garage?
- 1:13:12How about the new Bentley?
- 1:13:15And it's not the Bent Yaga Daba Daba Doo, this is the new Bentley
- 1:13:20Continental GT Speed 771 horsepower.
- 1:13:25Pretty nice A8, wouldn't you say?
- 1:13:27I want it.
- 1:13:27That is a good looking car.
- 1:13:29Yes.
- 1:13:29Yes.
- 1:13:29I love all the Bentleys, like the Bentley race cars and stuff.
- 1:13:33I've liked the Bentley GT Continental since it came out.
- 1:13:36It's just a good looking car with massive power, a massive motor.
- 1:13:40I actually got the opportunity to drive the W12 twin turbo version
- 1:13:44of this that came out, you know, whatever it was like 10 years ago.
- 1:13:47First, I was like, whatever, you know, it's a two door a big deal.
- 1:13:52It's all Volkswagen stuff, because, you know, Volkswagen owns Bentley, right?
- 1:13:55But it had all these really interesting luxury things like there's this little
- 1:13:59arm that brings the seatbelt to you.
- 1:14:02So you don't have to Turn and reach back forward and possibly like tweak your
- 1:14:06shoulder while, you know, you've been putting your seatbelt on and the seat
- 1:14:09adjusts and it like massages you and in a corner, it'll push up against you to
- 1:14:13make sure that you're not leaning out.
- 1:14:14You know, all of this stuff, it's like, God, all this crazy stuff.
- 1:14:16And I'm like, no wonder it weighs 9, 000 pounds, but the minute
- 1:14:20you wrapped on the throttle, holy hell, it was like a tornado.
- 1:14:25It just unleashes.
- 1:14:26All this power and that motor that W12 twin turbo, I don't think was
- 1:14:30nearly as powerful as this is.
- 1:14:32I think it was like 650 horsepower.
- 1:14:33And now they're talking closer to 800.
- 1:14:35So I can only imagine with all wheel drive and that kind of power, what
- 1:14:38kind of gut punch it would be to just open the taps on this thing.
- 1:14:42But at the same time, I think this looks better than the older
- 1:14:46Bentley, which wasn't bad looking.
- 1:14:48You know, sometimes the newer cars are like, eh, I'm not really convinced.
- 1:14:51It's a little uglier or whatever.
- 1:14:52This is actually really, really cool.
- 1:14:54It definitely has.
- 1:14:55Some very Germanic styling cues to it, but on the same token,
- 1:15:00I think this is really slick.
- 1:15:01I was about to say I don't hate it, and then I saw the back of it.
- 1:15:04E tron GT or this?
- 1:15:05This.
- 1:15:06No, I would get the E tron.
- 1:15:09Now I'm looking at used Bentley Continental GTs.
- 1:15:14How much is this Bentley?
- 1:15:15Cause I think I can get two e trons.
- 1:15:17I'd get day and night versions.
- 1:15:19Cheaper than the McLaren SUV, but more expensive than that Grand Wagoneer.
- 1:15:24I'll put it that way.
- 1:15:25Then I could buy three e trons maybe.
- 1:15:29Who can afford these things?
- 1:15:31Rich people can afford these things.
- 1:15:33Well, you know what?
- 1:15:33We're going to go down south and we're not going to talk about rich people.
- 1:15:36We're going to talk about alligators and beer.
- 1:15:53All right.
- 1:15:53So this one, okay.
- 1:15:56Boat launch fail of the year.
- 1:15:58Now you see the beginning photos here.
- 1:16:01You need to scroll down to where you see the first beer and bananas
- 1:16:06Instagram video, and you need to watch the Instagram video.
- 1:16:10However, I'm giving you a disclaimer.
- 1:16:12This will be painful for you guys to watch.
- 1:16:14I can see the first photos and I can already, I understand why.
- 1:16:18So they're attempting to pull the boat.
- 1:16:20Out of the water on the trailer.
- 1:16:22Wait, is that a human tow hitch?
- 1:16:25Yeah.
- 1:16:25Keep watching.
- 1:16:26Oh, wait.
- 1:16:26There's four parts.
- 1:16:27There's four parts.
- 1:16:28You want to watch part one?
- 1:16:30Whoa.
- 1:16:31Oh my God.
- 1:16:31No, no.
- 1:16:38Then where's the next one?
- 1:16:39Where's the part two.
- 1:16:40Here we go.
- 1:16:41So part one, for those who aren't enjoying.
- 1:16:45The video, imagine the man holding onto the back of a tailgate of a pickup truck,
- 1:16:51horizontal, with his waist inside the boat, and as the pickup truck's pulling
- 1:16:55the boat out of the water on the trailer, he's acting like the winch, essentially.
- 1:17:00He's gonna pull the boat along with his feet, essentially, because he starts
- 1:17:04getting dragged out of the boat, of course, because he's not able to hold on
- 1:17:07to a boat because physics, they almost get out of the water, but he completely
- 1:17:13out of the boat and then slams down crotch into to the tow hitch of the pickup truck.
- 1:17:22Very painful.
- 1:17:23So that was part one of the video.
- 1:17:24Part two of the video is now they got up out of the water onto the ground
- 1:17:28before the boat fell off the trailer.
- 1:17:30Then it slipped off the trailer because it was never locked in place.
- 1:17:33So now they've got a boat on dry land and they're all standing
- 1:17:36around going, what do we do?
- 1:17:38What they end up doing is just pushing it, scraping it across the
- 1:17:41ground back into the water, and they get it back into the water.
- 1:17:44Part three I didn't watch because everything said that it was really
- 1:17:46boring and not really worth watching.
- 1:17:49So I didn't watch it.
- 1:17:50But I do recommend watching the conclusion of this.
- 1:17:54Part four is the glorious finale of getting the boat out of the water,
- 1:17:59and this guy is just peak Florida man.
- 1:18:03Why are they unhooking it?
- 1:18:08They got the boat pulled up, why unhook it?
- 1:18:11I'm going the wrong way.
- 1:18:12I'm turning the wrong way.
- 1:18:13And now he's dancing, headbanging.
- 1:18:16He's so happy.
- 1:18:17Yeah, and he almost knocks himself out on the back end of that truck
- 1:18:20because he's like headbanging it.
- 1:18:21He's the guy that slammed his nuts at the beginning.
- 1:18:24Yes, he is.
- 1:18:25Yeah, yeah.
- 1:18:25He's recovered from that very quickly.
- 1:18:28We've made this joke before that there's something in the water, whether
- 1:18:32it's the alligator piss or whatever.
- 1:18:34As again, I was listening to NPR.
- 1:18:36They were talking about a report.
- 1:18:38About how down towards like Brazil, there are sharks that are basically on cocaine.
- 1:18:44So it's like cocaine bear as they were explaining this and what was
- 1:18:48boggling people's minds is what is the concentration level of cocaine
- 1:18:52in the water that basically the sharks aren't metabolizing it and
- 1:18:56the water isn't diluting it enough.
- 1:18:58Cause again, this is in the ocean.
- 1:19:00That's a lot of water.
- 1:19:02So if you can't dilute the cocaine, How much is in the water?
- 1:19:06So now I'm thinking about the jet stream and the currents and my head's going.
- 1:19:10And this is why Florida is the way it is the way the waters move.
- 1:19:14There's gotta be something in the water.
- 1:19:16It's not the cocaine in the water.
- 1:19:18It's the cocaine in themselves.
- 1:19:19Oh, oh, oh, oh.
- 1:19:22I was expecting something more exciting in the last.
- 1:19:26No, I mean, it ends just right.
- 1:19:28With like, this guy is on something, clearly, from part one, there's
- 1:19:34something's not, not normal.
- 1:19:38Speaking of not normal, you know, we like to make fun of Ultimas
- 1:19:41more often than not as well.
- 1:19:42Did you hear about the Ultima man that broke into a dealership?
- 1:19:46This is wild because he didn't, but also I could see his
- 1:19:50point that his car was stolen.
- 1:19:52Guy goes to the gas station.
- 1:19:54He's got his ultimate at the pump.
- 1:19:56I guess he goes inside like people do, which super irritates me.
- 1:19:59Move your car, park it, free up a pump, especially if you're at
- 1:20:02the diesel pump drives me nuts.
- 1:20:04So I guess he doesn't leave it in gear or whatever.
- 1:20:06It's an automatic.
- 1:20:07So whatever he must have had it in neutral.
- 1:20:09The car just starts rolling away and they've got it on the security cameras.
- 1:20:13It rolls away.
- 1:20:14It goes across the street.
- 1:20:15And then crashes into a dealership, destroys the front of the dealership,
- 1:20:19went this way and the other.
- 1:20:20So the guy reports his car stolen, and then the next morning, the guy at the
- 1:20:24dealership is reporting that somebody crashed into the building, and, you
- 1:20:28know, vandalized the property, and it was all just the car by itself.
- 1:20:32There's an argument to be had here.
- 1:20:34Yes, that the Ultima was too nice, and it needed to be beat up.
- 1:20:38So it just sacrificed itself.
- 1:20:41It just said, my driver's too good to me.
- 1:20:43I'm going to go find a building to slam into.
- 1:20:45And that's what it did.
- 1:20:45No, but the distance this car went, can you imagine you go inside the gas station?
- 1:20:49I don't know, you go to the bathroom, you can't see your car anymore.
- 1:20:53And you come back out, it's nighttime.
- 1:20:55So the car was off, the headlights are off, this thing crossed four
- 1:20:58lanes, plus a median, a divided highway, then through a parking lot.
- 1:21:02Smashes into a building.
- 1:21:04So you come out of the gas station.
- 1:21:06You're like I left my car here.
- 1:21:08It's not here You're looking around.
- 1:21:10It's not here.
- 1:21:11You're not thinking let me look way across the street over there like a quarter
- 1:21:16mile or more Yeah, that closed parking lot and see if my car is over there.
- 1:21:20You're like panic getting on the phone going holy shit my car was just stolen
- 1:21:25this ultima is actually herbie okay it just drove itself it just put itself
- 1:21:30on the wall it's more like christine curious now like how the insurance
- 1:21:34handles something like this because he was negligent One could argue.
- 1:21:39Yes.
- 1:21:39So he should be at fault.
- 1:21:40It all starts with him leaving his Ultima unattended at the gas pump.
- 1:21:44Let's talk about something else here.
- 1:21:46How impressive is that Ultima?
- 1:21:49It tracks straight.
- 1:21:50And over a median and was able to keep going.
- 1:21:54It was hard to tell.
- 1:21:55It didn't seem like the downhill was that downhill, but it must have been
- 1:21:58quite the descent for it to have picked up enough speed to hop over the curb,
- 1:22:03not beach itself on the median then.
- 1:22:05But then come back down and then keep going into the dealership.
- 1:22:09Ultimas are strong vehicles.
- 1:22:10They have to be.
- 1:22:11It's, it's like my toddler.
- 1:22:13I tried to go feed my toddler dinner and it runs away.
- 1:22:16I mean, he was trying to give his Ultima some fuel and it was like, nah, dog.
- 1:22:20I'm out of here.
- 1:22:20Leave me alone.
- 1:22:22I'm good.
- 1:22:22I had a, I had a snack earlier.
- 1:22:24I'm okay.
- 1:22:24I'm good.
- 1:22:25Just when you guys thought it couldn't get any worse.
- 1:22:28Have you heard, and I'm not talking about the Olympics,
- 1:22:31because that's going on right now.
- 1:22:32Have you heard?
- 1:22:33Oh, I've heard of it.
- 1:22:34About the Florida Man games.
- 1:22:36I'm watching the trailer now.
- 1:22:37Dude, they got events like dumpster diving for catalytic converters
- 1:22:41while wearing inflatable alligators and being chased by the cops.
- 1:22:43Does it get any better than that?
- 1:22:44Evading arrest, yeah.
- 1:22:46Obstacle course.
- 1:22:47It doesn't get any more Florida than this.
- 1:22:48That is epic.
- 1:22:50That needs to be on a streaming service.
- 1:22:52This is the new MXC.
- 1:22:54This is hilarious.
- 1:22:56Florida man games.
- 1:22:57They're looking for vendors and sponsors.
- 1:22:59We should do this.
- 1:23:00Sponsorify the drive thru.
- 1:23:02Done March 1st.
- 1:23:03Next year.
- 1:23:04Here we go.
- 1:23:04March 1st.
- 1:23:05We gotta go, dude.
- 1:23:06Come on.
- 1:23:07Come on.
- 1:23:08That's www.thefloridamangames.com.
- 1:23:10We gotta go.

- 1:23:35I'm at Corvette level.

- 1:24:15We're going to do this.
- 1:24:16Weaponized pool, noodle, mud duel.
- 1:24:19Oh my God, dude.
- 1:24:22All of it is amazing.
- 1:24:25It's time to go behind the pit wall and talk a little bit about
- 1:24:28motor sports news, not falling.
- 1:24:30Too far from this whole Florida man game story, you know, it's not
- 1:24:35uncommon to have an opening prayer at a race, but this one takes the cake.
- 1:24:40And I got to get a shout out to my wife for finding this golden nugget.
- 1:24:44Have you guys seen this opening prayer at this NASCAR race?
- 1:24:48Thank you for the Fords and Toyotas.
- 1:24:51This was a Talladega Knights moment.
- 1:24:53I mean, this is just crazy.
- 1:24:55Is this the one where the guy talks about his wife?
- 1:24:57Smokin hot white Lisa!
- 1:24:59Ha ha ha ha ha ha!
- 1:25:02Boogity, boogity, boogity!
- 1:25:03Boogity, boogity, boogity!
- 1:25:05Somebody was watching Cars 2.
- 1:25:07Yeah, exactly.
- 1:25:08I love the guy in the background too, he's like, It's a guy on a John
- 1:25:12Deere, dressed up like Randy Savage.
- 1:25:14Yes!
- 1:25:15Drinking a beer.
- 1:25:16Oh my gosh!
- 1:25:21It's funny because it's real, not because we're making fun of it,
- 1:25:25because it's real and it happened.
- 1:25:27God bless.
- 1:25:28That was awesome.
- 1:25:29I haven't heard that one yet.
- 1:25:30In the name of Jesus, we pray.
- 1:25:36Oh man, can you imagine?
- 1:25:37Someone did Jesse's.
- 1:25:39Prayer from the fast and the furious in the comments, dear heavenly spirit.
- 1:25:43Thank you for providing us with direct port nitrous injection for
- 1:25:46core intercoolers and ball bearing turbos and a titanium valve springs.
- 1:25:50Thank you.
- 1:25:50Shall we address the elephant in the room?
- 1:25:55Formula one.
- 1:25:56What's formula one?
- 1:25:57I mean, I don't even want to talk about all the BS with Verstappen and, you know,
- 1:26:03blah, blah, blah, whiny baby cry stuff.
- 1:26:06I want to talk about this Brad Pitt movie.
- 1:26:08This is some smoking hot garbage.
- 1:26:10I feel like the plot line is going to be smoking hot garbage because there's
- 1:26:15yet to be evidence that there is one.
- 1:26:18Which, in fairness, is like the first trailer, so they only have
- 1:26:22so much, I guess, they can show.
- 1:26:24But for someone who is not a fan, not a follower, it's going to be
- 1:26:30visually very exciting for them.
- 1:26:32If you like CGI, yes.
- 1:26:34Well, that's all anything is these days.
- 1:26:36I mean, I think it's all real footage.
- 1:26:38I don't know if there's accidents and things like that, but the CGI comes
- 1:26:41in where they've taken real footage and changed the liveries and changed
- 1:26:44the colors so that it matches what the movie's trying to do, because
- 1:26:47there are legitimate scenes that are real F1 clips of other drivers.
- 1:26:52But then they just photo edited afterwards, video edited, and made it look
- 1:26:56like it was Brad's pit car going up Eau Rouge when it was really pure gasoline.
- 1:27:01I'm still gonna watch it, just like every other car movie that comes out.
- 1:27:04The trailer that's out now, I don't think there's been a second one yet,
- 1:27:08but whichever version it was, it's just like, it opened with Brad Pitt saying
- 1:27:12some garbage, and I just wanted to vomit when he first started speaking.
- 1:27:15I don't know, it was just a reaction.
- 1:27:17It just sounded so dumb.
- 1:27:19what he was saying was McLaren, Audi, or not Audi, McLaren, Mercedes.
- 1:27:24I got Audi on my brain because that's another hot topic.
- 1:27:27They've all got the speed, but we need to tack in the corners.
- 1:27:31And it's like, what are you fucking talking about?
- 1:27:33Because then like his engineer is like, you want me to build a unsafe car?
- 1:27:37Like what?
- 1:27:38And then the premise seems to be Basically backmarker with no funding suddenly
- 1:27:43rises to become F1 world champion.
- 1:27:45It's like that's not how it works.
- 1:27:47No, no, there's no Cinderella story here that whoever no name scrounged
- 1:27:54up a few dollars to get into a race car in Formula One and suddenly is.
- 1:27:59beating Red Bull.
- 1:28:00No, not reality.
- 1:28:02Did you also happen to catch in the background of the trailer,
- 1:28:05I thought I saw Gunther Steiner.
- 1:28:07Yes, he does make a cameo in there.
- 1:28:09Just tells you, sponsored by Haas.
- 1:28:11Well, and that's what I'm confused too, like, what is this storyline?
- 1:28:14Because it showed at the time, I guess they were at Silverstone, maybe?
- 1:28:18I don't remember.
- 1:28:18It was one of the recent races and Brad and whoever else has been going to all
- 1:28:23the events and they're quietly in the background recording to give it that
- 1:28:26authentic feel so a lot of times when some of the other people are doing their
- 1:28:30press interview stuff Brad's over behind them sort of in a corner and he's got
- 1:28:35fake press stuff going on there too and so in the very beginning when they all
- 1:28:38line up for the anthems and all that stuff pre race There's a scene where they
- 1:28:42had Brad and the other driver, whatever the actor's name is, they were standing
- 1:28:46alongside, and then Verstappen was there, and like Perez, and like everybody else.
- 1:28:50And so you see all of them, and I'm like, Are you competing against
- 1:28:53the real Formula One drivers then?
- 1:28:55Like, why are you showing them?
- 1:28:56Or is it just like, no one's gonna know who these guys are, so it's no big deal?
- 1:29:01Because then the plot is even worse.
- 1:29:03Yeah.
- 1:29:03If Podunkville people come up from nowhere in F1 and, again, are going to try to
- 1:29:08beat the leading constructors, it's like, you don't have a leg to stand on,
- 1:29:12because if not, Haas would be winning.
- 1:29:14It's going to be terrible, but again, I'm going to watch it, so.
- 1:29:16So I don't know, I mean, I'm being very negative about it prematurely.
- 1:29:20Who knows, maybe it'll be quite good, but somehow these things
- 1:29:23don't often end up that way.
- 1:29:24Have you seen Driven?
- 1:29:25Well, Driven just becomes absurd where it was.
- 1:29:28Ridiculous driving around whatever the city street over manhole
- 1:29:30covers or whatever the thing was.
- 1:29:32Well, we know that doesn't work because of Las Vegas.
- 1:29:34Exactly.
- 1:29:35So that was fake.
- 1:29:36I don't know.
- 1:29:37We'll see.
- 1:29:37We'll all watch it.
- 1:29:38We'll have to do it with.
- 1:29:39Steve and Izzy will tear that movie apart.
- 1:29:41It'll be fantastic.
- 1:29:42I look forward to that actually.
- 1:29:44Yep.
- 1:29:44What else is going on Formula 1?
- 1:29:46There's all this talk of Audi and skeletons coming out of the
- 1:29:50closets and God knows what else.
- 1:29:52We're stabbing it as a curfew now.
- 1:29:55Well, it's because he's 11.
- 1:29:56So I mean, come on, right?
- 1:29:57It's like the old Snickers commercials where you had like The celebrity who
- 1:30:01was like really cranky doing bad stuff.
- 1:30:03And then like someone hands him a Snickers bar and then suddenly he becomes like
- 1:30:06this different celebrity and super nice.
- 1:30:08And it's like, you really get angry when you're hungry or whatever the slogan was.
- 1:30:12So I guess he gets really angry when he's sleepy.
- 1:30:15I don't know because the thing is, people are trying to say
- 1:30:19it's because he was up at 3 a.
- 1:30:20m.
- 1:30:20doing sim racing when he should have been resting and sleeping.
- 1:30:23So his aggressive behavior is the result of.
- 1:30:26You know, his lack of sleep.
- 1:30:28I'm like, no, his aggressive behavior has always been there.
- 1:30:31And the only reason we haven't seen his aggressive behavior for two years,
- 1:30:34because he was in a car that was leagues above everybody else's, and he was always
- 1:30:38out at front doing hot laps by himself.
- 1:30:39So he had no pressure at any time, no reason to be aggressive.
- 1:30:43He was just out there bored.
- 1:30:46And now we're seeing him actually have to race wheel to wheel with other people.
- 1:30:50And guess what?
- 1:30:51His aggressive nature's coming back out.
- 1:30:53Because racing incident this, that, or any other, sure, fine, let's call it
- 1:30:56that, and not give Hamilton a penalty.
- 1:30:58But it's like, you dive bombed him, and it didn't work.
- 1:31:01And then you want to say it's his fault.
- 1:31:03I've said it before, you can take the boy out of the go kart, but you can't
- 1:31:06take the kart racer out of the boy.
- 1:31:08I mean it would have been an amazing move had he been able to stick it but this
- 1:31:12time it didn't work and he locked up and he's lucky he's so lucky he didn't crash
- 1:31:16himself out freaking incredibly lucky how you go up in the air slam back down shoot
- 1:31:22off the track And you're able to like slow down enough not to slam into the barrier,
- 1:31:26turn right next to it, and then get back on track and basically lose a position.
- 1:31:30Well, well, we've seen the exact opposite of that because Okan does stuff like
- 1:31:33that and just destroys everybody.
- 1:31:35Remember Monaco?
- 1:31:36I mean, this could have very well been the same thing where he just missiled into
- 1:31:40the side of Hamilton and took him out.
- 1:31:41And it's like, for what?
- 1:31:42Because if you're so much better and so much faster, you could have
- 1:31:45waited till the next turn then.
- 1:31:46Could have waited till the next Lap, even, because you still
- 1:31:50had several laps ahead of you.
- 1:31:51Anyway, so I don't know why anybody's surprised, because I thought we all saw
- 1:31:54this behavior when he was not in Red Bull, or in the Junior Red Bull, where
- 1:31:59he was super aggressive, and yada yada yada, so I don't know that we can blame
- 1:32:03lack of sleep in sim racing, as opposed to his true driving character because
- 1:32:08we even saw it in his sim racing where he literally got pissed off enough
- 1:32:12and he went and punted somebody off.
- 1:32:14Yep that did happen yeah yeah yeah.
- 1:32:16So how is this any different?
- 1:32:18It's really not.
- 1:32:18Other than the fact that this is real world and you could hurt somebody.
- 1:32:21It's a lot more exciting now thankfully that some of the other constructors
- 1:32:25are now finally bringing forward a car that can compete and we're
- 1:32:28seeing other people winning sometimes not even on the podium anymore.
- 1:32:32Ever since Adrian Newey left, I wonder why?
- 1:32:38I do not know.
- 1:32:39I'm just saying all signs point to Adrian Newey.
- 1:32:41I always thought they were cheating, but you know, I'm just
- 1:32:43going to leave that where it is.
- 1:32:44And that's probably why Adrian Newey left.
- 1:32:45The writing was on the wall.
- 1:32:46Yeah.
- 1:32:47They were that close to being exposed because of Christian
- 1:32:50horny and all that stuff.
- 1:32:51And then they were going to blow the lid on everything and they were going
- 1:32:54to figure out that they were cheating.
- 1:32:55Like I've been saying, and that's that, but you know, Hey, Oh, I'm
- 1:32:58okay being wrong about that too.
- 1:33:00But the proof is suddenly coincidentally in the pudding.
- 1:33:03So we'll see.
- 1:33:04So Audi.
- 1:33:05I'm confused by this one.
- 1:33:06They named their team principal and it's former Ferrari team principal.
- 1:33:11Egon Spangler.
- 1:33:12Yes.
- 1:33:13But Benotti or Benuti, whatever his name is.
- 1:33:16Yes.
- 1:33:16Butoni, whatever.
- 1:33:18I can't remember.
- 1:33:18Minotto.
- 1:33:19Yeah.
- 1:33:19That really Italian name.
- 1:33:21That guy.
- 1:33:21Yes.
- 1:33:21He looks like Egon Spangler.
- 1:33:22I mean, let's get real.
- 1:33:24Yes.
- 1:33:24Yeah.
- 1:33:24Harold Ramis.
- 1:33:25I don't know how to feel.
- 1:33:26My initial reaction was disappointment because I'm like, great.
- 1:33:29It goes out.
- 1:33:32They should have got Steiner.
- 1:33:33No, it's worse.
- 1:33:34At least it would have been entertaining.
- 1:33:35No, it's such a small community.
- 1:33:40That's just it.
- 1:33:41I mean, who are you going to name as a print?
- 1:33:43I brought that French guy back.
- 1:33:44Uh, no, the guy that was Renault.
- 1:33:48Beryl, that was his name.
- 1:33:49Here's a novel concept, why not hire somebody else?
- 1:33:53Like Andretti!
- 1:33:54You know, you know.
- 1:33:56How about somebody from Formula 2, Formula 3, some of the others.
- 1:34:00Be better than Steiner.
- 1:34:01Steiner's fucking entertaining.
- 1:34:04That's all he is though.
- 1:34:05So that's all I want, I don't care.
- 1:34:07They're not gonna win.
- 1:34:09I have high hopes for Audi, but With everything we talked about
- 1:34:13earlier, how is Volkswagen going to afford a Formula One team?
- 1:34:16You know?
- 1:34:17I don't know.
- 1:34:18Because it ain't cheap to run a Formula One team, and it's not Porsche that's
- 1:34:22doing it, it's Audi that's doing it.
- 1:34:24I don't know where the buckets of money come from.
- 1:34:26That's why it's hard to believe what's fact and what's fiction.
- 1:34:29Maybe Audi has an OnlyFans page.
- 1:34:31Is that what it is?
- 1:34:32Okay.
- 1:34:33That explains click here to see the Q7 unwrapped, but mom and dad
- 1:34:43Volkswagen don't know about it.
- 1:34:48Porsche sliding into their DMS for slides in the DM.
- 1:34:53Oh, yeah, that's horrible.
- 1:34:54Well, I am delinquent on my rally recap.
- 1:34:58I kind of fizzled out around Portugal, but then again, during the summer months,
- 1:35:01there's only really basically one a month.
- 1:35:03So it's pretty easy to get caught up.
- 1:35:05So I apologize.
- 1:35:06Not that you guys care.
- 1:35:07And in the world of WEC and IMSA and World Challenge and all that fun stuff, you
- 1:35:13know, we're still riding the high for it.
- 1:35:14from Lamar.
- 1:35:15So it's like a lot of the races are a lot shorter, like, you know, mid Oh, and
- 1:35:19all those, and not all the big cars go to those events, Rolex and Sebring and
- 1:35:24leading up to Lamar, it's a big deal.
- 1:35:26And then now it kind of gets slow until we start doing some
- 1:35:29of the bigger races in the fall.
- 1:35:30And then they obviously petite's in October and things like that.
- 1:35:32That's not to say that there aren't other things going on in the ACO.
- 1:35:36I am going to be at evening with a legend live in San Diego for
- 1:35:41blown away to on August the 24th.
- 1:35:43So if you're out on the West coast, listening to this and you want to
- 1:35:46be part of it, you still have an opportunity to join us on the SS Minnow.
- 1:35:50I mean, uh, the America's cup sailing yacht for a three hour tour, leaving
- 1:35:54from the San Diego yacht club.
- 1:35:55And it's a plated dinner with a chance to sit down and talk with the.
- 1:35:59Former legends of Lamont's.
- 1:36:01I can't say who's going to be there, but the list of folks, the list
- 1:36:05of pro drivers is pretty exciting.
- 1:36:06So looking forward to seeing anybody out there, come up and say hi, and
- 1:36:10look forward to more evening with a legend episodes throughout the season.
- 1:36:13We're on break here in July, but next month, wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

- 1:42:33back in the old days.
- 1:42:34You had to find her CD player, her disc drive, so she could put the
- 1:42:39AOL disc in so it would connect.
