- 0:04Same thing every year, one side stands in claps the other side
- 0:07sits still not having any fun. It reminds me of my cousin's
- 0:09wedding. Yeah I give it six months by not
- 0:14to talk about his achievements. He said we pass an
- 0:17infrastructure Bill, we reduce inflation and we finally
- 0:19convinced cam Brady to retire. A bipartisan ship and unity is
- 0:29like as Democrats and Republicans.
- 0:31We have one common goal, mishandled classified.
- 0:33Document this is plausibly live. Well, good morning, good
- 0:38evening, or good afternoon, wherever you are, whatever you
- 0:40do. A lot of things happening in the
- 0:42world. Today, most of them are far
- 0:44beyond our control. You might say.
- 0:46So perhaps it's time we took a pause and a lot about life.
- 0:50But about the laws of gravity, the State of the Union jokes The
- 0:55mail theft politics were the news.
- 0:58Don't touch that dial. Just try to hear me out for a
- 1:00little while so not that you care.
- 1:04But right before the tax done, right for the show this morning
- 1:09I'm finishing up show prep and my text thing goes off my mother
- 1:14fell yesterday again and is now hospitalized and so there's this
- 1:20text thread between my brother and my sister and myself.
- 1:24A me, this text shows up this morning my brother.
- 1:33It says are you sure we're out of grounds?
- 1:36Which my sister immediately responds coffee or burial like
- 1:41brother. I catched forgot that he was on
- 1:44the wrong text read. That's what he said.
- 1:45I was sorry that was on the wrong threat.
- 1:48So I jumped in and said hey I've got a full can of unopened, can
- 1:52of folders in the pantry if you want it to which he informed me
- 1:56that he would never drink anything as provincial as
- 1:59folders. Only drinks, Café Bustelo,
- 2:03which, by the way, is what I'm drinking right now.
- 2:04I love Café Bustelo. but I can't have more than two cups of it
- 2:09because then I could become kind of unfocused, I guess is the
- 2:14best way to put it anyway. Turns out, Café Bustelo, is the
- 2:18coffe coffee of choice of the bomb and family.
- 2:24Don't know why you would care but but there you go.
- 2:26That's what I was dealing with about a minute and a half ago.
- 2:31This idea today that having an opinion without having full
- 2:35information, has become quite normalized.
- 2:39I attribute it to the Magnus effect.
- 2:43What I mean? The USA Today story, Once Upon a
- 2:49Time, Doonesbury was a great idea, great cartoon.
- 2:51But back in the early 80s when USA Today became a thing it was
- 2:57constantly referred to in Doonesbury as Mick news, which
- 3:00is what it was. It was just a headline less than
- 3:03140 characters. Sometimes 250 characters of a
- 3:07story and that was it. Today because of that, Magnus
- 3:14effect, we barely read headlines let alone any actual stories.
- 3:20Stories have been replaced with tweets and with polls.
- 3:23One of the things that drives me nuts is when people take a
- 3:26screenshot of a headline and put it in a tweet or a social media
- 3:30post with no link. So you can even link to the
- 3:32story, you have to draw your entire conclusion about the
- 3:35story. Totally from this picture, the
- 3:38screenshot that has subsequently been posted on social media.
- 3:44And you get poles as well. Did you know that 83 percent of
- 3:47Americans think that blah blah blah?
- 3:51Without any context or any input into it, it's absurd.
- 3:55Now, all that said we all do it but we also all complain about
- 4:00it. We all talk about.
- 4:01How will you don't have all the information yet?
- 4:03How can you have an opinion about something?
- 4:07Well, I try not to my try to get information before I form my
- 4:14opinions. It's not always successful but I
- 4:17try but that's why I have nothing to say about the State
- 4:20of the Union this morning. I did not watch it.
- 4:23Sorry, we had a big to-do last night at the synagogue.
- 4:27I went to that nor did I get up this morning and read the speech
- 4:30because as I told Rod the other day, it is available at
- 4:33whitehouse.gov Didn't have any interest in it.
- 4:38What? I have seen this morning
- 4:40overwhelmingly in my various news feeds aren't even stories
- 4:44about the speech. There's not stories that say,
- 4:47President Biden calls for bold, New Vision with none of that.
- 4:51What I can't are just like you got for the Grammy Awards,
- 4:56reactions to the State of the Union post.
- 4:59That's, that's all I'm seeing stories.
- 5:02So and so reacts to the reaction to but to be honest with you I
- 5:07haven't read those either because Cuz I can already tell
- 5:09you what's in them. If the story where the post
- 5:12comes from the left State of the Union was the greatest state of
- 5:16the unit Eva, you get that. I mean, it's fantastic.
- 5:20This is the best president and this was the best best State of
- 5:23the Union ever. If the person posting it, her
- 5:27writing, it was on the right. It was terrible.
- 5:30It's full of lies and oh, he almost fell asleep while
- 5:32delivering it. Now.
- 5:37Most of these opinions are based solely on headlines, maybe a
- 5:41photograph, maybe it would have right?
- 5:44I would bet you that the vast majority opinions about State of
- 5:46the Union Address last night, were formed long before the
- 5:51State of the Union Address was ever delivered.
- 5:53Now before you send me an email, telling me that I'm wrong
- 5:56because you watched it, I'm sure you did.
- 5:59I want you to listen to something.
- 6:01These are jokes that were told about the State of the Union
- 6:04Address on late night television last night.
- 6:07Quote, it was a tough night for all abidin Stafford's watching
- 6:11from the white house because every time people clapped the
- 6:15lights went on and off. It's the same thing every year,
- 6:22one side stands and claps the other side sits still not having
- 6:25any fun. It reminds me of my cousin's
- 6:28wedding. I'll give it six months.
- 6:34Okay, that one's a little bit funny.
- 6:36Quote. Now, Biden also talked about his
- 6:39achievements. He said we passed an
- 6:41infrastructure Bill we reduced inflation and we finally
- 6:44convinced Tom Brady to retire. So I think that's a great year
- 6:50in his speech Biden called for bipartisan and unity.
- 6:53He was like as Democrats and Republicans, we have one common
- 6:57goal to mishandled classified documents.
- 7:01Now, the thing about those jokes is whether you think they're
- 7:04funny or not is irrelevant to me?
- 7:07Personally, I think they're a little, I don't know, they
- 7:11they're not home run jokes, but then again late night comedy
- 7:15rarely is, but all of those jokes were written long before
- 7:21the speech was even delivered. You understand that all of those
- 7:27jokes were written before the speech was even written?
- 7:32How do we know this? Because they were recorded live
- 7:36before a studio audience hours before the speech was actually
- 7:40given. In other words late night,
- 7:42television isn't really late night television.
- 7:44They recorded earlier in the day.
- 7:47But they have to tell these jokes about the State of the
- 7:49Union Address. Which hasn't been given yet?
- 7:54it's become so predictable and boring that late night, comics
- 7:57and newspapers are writing their articles and jokes before the
- 8:00speech is even given And the reaction stories become Legion
- 8:07because nobody even wants to talk about any actual analysis
- 8:12of the speech because there isn't any actual analysis to
- 8:15give. I didn't watch it.
- 8:18I can't tell you I highest I make some assumptions about the
- 8:23speech, but but I can't give you an actual analysis of it because
- 8:26I'm certain that it was like most State of the Union
- 8:29speeches, which is patting myself on the back telling you
- 8:33what a great job I'm doing. Which isn't what the state of
- 8:36the union is supposed to be about.
- 8:39Don't yell at me. Go read the Constitution State
- 8:42of the Union Address isn't supposed to be a party political
- 8:45but that's what it's turned into.
- 8:47And you got Congress, people wearing pins that have crayons
- 8:50on them. You have behavior.
- 8:52That if that was happening in your kids, fourth grade class,
- 8:56you'd have a fit about, but this has become normal, which is why
- 9:00the jokes, and the Articles can be written long before the
- 9:03speeches ever given because it's Kabuki theater, it's all it is.
- 9:08And of course, the reactions to the speech.
- 9:11Say more about the person giving the reaction.
- 9:14Then they do any actual analysis of the speech, which is What's
- 9:20become the norm? That's become the Mac opinion.
- 9:23Now we just formed the opinion with the, you know, it happened.
- 9:27Here's my opinion about it. And it's not going to get any
- 9:31better folks. It's never going to get any
- 9:33better for the record, my opinion, of the State of the
- 9:36Union right now is a the union is fucked and B, we need to stop
- 9:41these stupid speeches. I'm Bill met with WMV radio, in
- 9:55Melbourne, Florida, where we have a governor that will
- 9:57actually stand for, what's right?
- 9:59My show, airs morning, from 6:00 to 9:00 Eastern everyday.
- 10:02We discussed news, politics and social issues that impact us,
- 10:05all Tuesdays in our 8:00, our date.
- 10:08Joins me for something we call date does history or Dave brings
- 10:11us events from our past. Right now, Collision live, fine.
- 10:16Wmm be of the iHeartRadio app. Welcome back up here in the
- 10:33Kitsap region of Northwest Washington, got an interesting
- 10:38story going on, it's kind of a shocking story because this sort
- 10:43of thing. Doesn't normally happen.
- 10:47But it's got a it's got people up here, debating, some things
- 10:50about. well, vigilantism deadly force, which is a big deal here
- 10:55because we got, you know, we have two major Naval bases here
- 11:00and we even had an incident yesterday.
- 11:02We're two different individuals. Tried to run the gates of the
- 11:06base yesterday morning, right? As the base was opening up for
- 11:09the morning. So the base The Banger base
- 11:12ended up shutting down for about an hour to deal with that.
- 11:16No one was shot in those incidents.
- 11:18Even though these people tried to force their way onto a
- 11:21military installation. The story we have and we do not
- 11:24have all the facts. We do not know what was said.
- 11:28but the story that we have, as we have it, is that a gentleman
- 11:35Notice that there were unidentified persons in a
- 11:38vehicle around the mailboxes of his neighborhood and they
- 11:43appeared to be breaking into the mailboxes.
- 11:47He went out to confront them. Something was said, nobody knows
- 11:53what nobody is clear on what happened. but a brouhaha in
- 12:00sued, In which the homeowner? The gentleman ended up shooting
- 12:06the suspected male Thief to death who killed him right there
- 12:09in the street. The two women that were with
- 12:12him, have disappeared. No one is clear on where they
- 12:17are fact. There's an all-points bulletin
- 12:19out for them. You can see the posts on
- 12:21Facebook and social media and everywhere else.
- 12:24Hey, we need to find these gals. But as it stands right now, the
- 12:28male, the suspected male Thief is dead, And the man who shot
- 12:32him is charged with first-degree murder.
- 12:37Now he is in Kitsap County jail. I think it's a million dollars
- 12:40Bond and has plead not guilty in his arraignment.
- 12:46The story. If the story ended right there
- 12:48you'd go well. Should have shot him.
- 12:52I mean, certainly that's an are certainly that's an arguable
- 12:55opinion. I mean, you know what, what,
- 12:57what do we know? I mean, I was trained in deadly
- 13:00force. I can't imagine the
- 13:03circumstances that would cause me to shoot someone dead over
- 13:06mail. I mean, frankly, if you want
- 13:09those advertisements for refinancing and WinCo, I guess
- 13:14you can have them. But If you think I'm stupid
- 13:17enough to actually send stuff that have stuff sent to me, that
- 13:20is actually valuable to my mailbox.
- 13:22Will, you know, I'm not that dumb.
- 13:26Well, But what was said and we don't know, we don't know what
- 13:31threat was made. We don't know what words were
- 13:35exchanged. We know none of this because the
- 13:37two witnesses have disappeared. By the way, they're not likely
- 13:39to be cooperative. I can't imagine that the two
- 13:42witnesses who were with the suspected male Thief.
- 13:46You know, I can't imagine that they're going to say anything
- 13:49positive about the guy who shot him.
- 13:54If it ended right there, it would be a troubling store.
- 14:00Yesterday afternoon, we learned in our morning paper today just
- 14:06in the paper. It's a website.
- 14:08That the suspected male Thief had been bailed out of Kitsap
- 14:11County Jail, barely, two hours before he was suspected of
- 14:16stealing mail again, and was shot and killed.
- 14:23Furthermore, we learned that the credit card used to bail him
- 14:27out. Of Kitsap County Jail two hours
- 14:30before he was shot and killed. Was a stolen credit card.
- 14:38Does that change how we see the story at all?
- 14:43Does it change how we feel about things at all?
- 14:46This guy. Look, I'm going to go out on a
- 14:48limb here and say this guy was a male thieve and this guy had a
- 14:53long history of this and these two women that were with him,
- 14:57help them? But we don't know what happened
- 15:00or why the shooter thought that he was threatened by this map.
- 15:03We don't, we don't know. Like I said, the Witnesses are
- 15:06unlikely to be cooperative. In fact, as I said there's an
- 15:09APB out for them because they need to help him.
- 15:14But the question is going to be was this really first-degree
- 15:16murder? I mean, my understanding of
- 15:19first-degree murder is premeditated and, you know, I
- 15:25don't know that those was had this guy's metal been stolen
- 15:27before and he was planning to shoot.
- 15:29The got due to the fact that he brought a gun to a male condom
- 15:33conflict. Make it premeditated.
- 15:38I don't know. I, I'm curious about that.
- 15:41I'm curious about what a jury in Kitsap county is going to say
- 15:43about that because mail theft here is a huge deal.
- 15:49I don't know about where you live but here our mail theft has
- 15:52gotten to the point where it's almost a weekly front-page story
- 15:56somewhere. And it seems that law
- 16:01enforcement and government authorities have no interest in
- 16:05doing anything about it at all. It's just a nuisance.
- 16:08It's something there. Their suggestion is don't have
- 16:11your mail sent to your house. Get a post office box. which is
- 16:16a fine suggestion, but Is a little bit, I don't know
- 16:22unconcerned as a come across as unconcerned.
- 16:24Does it come across as we're not going to do anything about it?
- 16:28And as Government bear, any responsibility in the fact that
- 16:30since they're not going to do anything about it, people are
- 16:33going to take matters into their own hands.
- 16:37I don't know what the end result of this is going to be.
- 16:39I have no idea. I just got up this morning in
- 16:41the story. Was that the bail credit card
- 16:43used was fraudulent. And I'm wondering, you know,
- 16:50because obviously the two women bailed him out.
- 16:56Which means that they had the stolen credit cards, now, where
- 16:58did they get them? And are they going to turn on
- 17:01the Dead Guy to save their own skins?
- 17:04Who knows? I don't know where this is gonna
- 17:05go, but it raises. A lot of questions about deadly
- 17:08force. It raises a lot of questions
- 17:09about, you know, what exactly are we paying for in our
- 17:13government? Because they don't seem
- 17:15interested in actually doing the things that the That the people
- 17:20actually need done but in the meantime we're opening up, you
- 17:24know, all kinds of ridiculous programs.
- 17:28The nobody asked for nobody wants but they sound good and
- 17:30they look good on paper. But now there's a guy dead in
- 17:36the street and another guy in jail on a million dollars, Bond.
- 17:41For defending his property. I don't know.
- 17:45We'll see how it goes and we'll keep you up to date on it and
- 17:48the future take the time right now tell the people that matter
- 17:50in your life you love them very much, miss them if they weren't
- 17:53there. So don't pass up.
- 17:53Those opportunities don't want to have that regret plausibly
- 17:57live. I'm Dave Bowman will see you
- 17:59next time.
