Transcript
- 0:00David is well known in the history of mankind.
- 0:04Love him or hate him, his story has a lot to offer to those who are seeking God.
- 0:09He led a life of victory, trials, and tribulations. He walked with God.
- 0:15Quote, The Lord has sought for himself a man after his own heart,
- 0:20and the Lord has commanded him to be commander over his people.
- 0:25End quote. 1 Samuel chapter 13 verse 14.
- 0:30God picked David. He knew that David was going to mess up big time, but yet he picked him.
- 0:36Maybe because God also knew that David would repent and accept consequences
- 0:42with faithfulness and humility.
- 0:44Examine Psalm 51 verse 4 and notice that David does not expect God to change himself for David.
- 0:55He expects God to be just and righteous.
- 0:59Quote, against you, you only have I sinned, and done this evil in your sight,
- 1:05that you might be found just when you speak, and blameless when you judge.
- 1:11End quote. Psalm 51 verse 4.
- 1:14I have heard people underscore the unthinkable crimes committed by David.
- 1:19But in my mind, we all commit unthinkable crimes to varying degrees.
- 1:24Some of these may be subtle in our perceptions, like slinking away from our
- 1:29responsibilities and priorities or judging others in private.
- 1:34Other sins may be more serious, like murder, etc. But all these are against God.
- 1:41Where do we expect God to draw the line when He judges us?
- 1:45Are we going to say, This sin, God, I committed, but it was okay because it
- 1:52was done in private and it did not hurt anyone.
- 1:55But David, he's no good. I'm much better than him.
- 1:58Or maybe you go to God and say, Well, I have always shown up to church and taken communion.
- 2:05I'm so much better than that drunk who barely shows up to church.
- 2:10I can go on about how we think that we are spiritually higher than our fellow
- 2:14brothers and sisters in Christ, but we are not.
- 2:18We are as bad as David. The only good thing about David's story is that God
- 2:25is good, and he will stay good all the way to eternity.
- 2:31I hope David's story kindles in you today three things, evidence of God's benevolence and mercy,
- 2:39God's ability to change an ugly situation into something beautiful like the
- 2:44birth of Solomon, a desire to be faithful as David, and a deep knowing that
- 2:50God has our best interest.
- 2:51He will forgive if we repent and will bear with us the consequences of our action.
- 2:57He died for our sins.
- 2:59Would you think he would not walk alongside us through thick and thin?
- 3:03I would recommend to those that dislike David to look at him as a model God
- 3:09gave us to demonstrate how to repent and be faithful to him.
- 3:13This story should bring out characteristics of God that may get concealed when we are judging David.
- 3:20In this story, we should see a devoted father in God Almighty.
- 3:26One that will not abandon an errant child.
- 3:29One that will love his son with an everlasting love.
- 3:33One that will not spare the rod to spoil the child. One that provides constant guidance.
- 3:40We have an awesome God who will keep his promises and never fail to protect or discipline us.
- 3:47He is a parent we should all strive to become.
- 3:50Perfect, loving, and generous.
- 3:54Dear God, your benevolence is refreshing to a sinner like me.
- 3:58Thank you for your rod and staff.
- 4:01Grant me the ability to cherish your correction as much as your protection.
- 4:05May I walk in obedience to you and bring you glory. I pray all this in Jesus' name. Amen.
