Transcript
- 0:31It's lunchtime, everybody.
- 0:32What is going on?
- 0:34Lunch with Clydesdale live every day.
- 0:38Twelve fifteen Eastern Time.
- 0:40Here we are.
- 0:43I'm going to throw a dart.
- 0:44I've been missing it a
- 0:45little bit for the last couple of days.
- 0:48I might throw a couple
- 0:49because I'm tired of missing.
- 0:51So I'm going to I'm going to hone it in.
- 0:53Let's see what we got.
- 0:57Weak sauce to the right.
- 1:01Oh man, it's getting worse.
- 1:09I need to give it up.
- 1:11That just needs to be a Dave thing.
- 1:13I need to give it up.
- 1:18I used to be good at darts.
- 1:20I used to be good at darts.
- 1:21I was a bouncer.
- 1:22I was a bartender.
- 1:23We played darts all the time.
- 1:26I, uh,
- 1:30yeah I don't know there it
- 1:33is jay birch live from okc
- 1:39and tfx uh sarah cooper
- 1:42says do we know if tfx is
- 1:43streaming anywhere if not
- 1:45I'll call jay birch he'll
- 1:46take out his cell phone uh
- 1:49he can get the live shot
- 1:50from the lane he's judging
- 1:51in and uh we'll stream that
- 1:54how about that I have not
- 1:56heard about streaming um
- 2:02TFX does not stream ever.
- 2:04So... Yeah,
- 2:08why would you have... Why would
- 2:10you have Chase and Angelo
- 2:12commentating if there's no stream?
- 2:15They'd just be talking into air.
- 2:17So I'm assuming there's got
- 2:18to be some kind of stream somewhere.
- 2:26But yeah, I don't know.
- 2:29You got to hope...
- 2:31You wouldn't waste getting.
- 2:36And I know Lauren Khalil is
- 2:37going to be doing it as well.
- 2:40So there's three people
- 2:42they've hired to do the announcing.
- 2:44I would hope that they have
- 2:46a stream to at least for us to hear them.
- 2:49Maybe it's a radio broadcast.
- 2:50Maybe that's something new and innovative.
- 2:52We're going to try.
- 2:55Jay Birch says the camera in
- 2:56the lane might be frowned upon.
- 2:59Yeah, yeah.
- 3:02would say so we actually had
- 3:03a problem at my old
- 3:04affiliate uh during the
- 3:06open where a judge the
- 3:08judges would pull out a
- 3:09camera and um video or take
- 3:13pictures of the athlete
- 3:14they were judging uh
- 3:16because it was their friend
- 3:17or or whatever because it's
- 3:18in the affiliate none of
- 3:19them are going to the games
- 3:21but we actually had to have
- 3:22like a sit down and say listen
- 3:24if you want to take pictures
- 3:25and video maybe don't judge
- 3:27when your friend's going
- 3:28and uh because it's really
- 3:30hard to keep count while
- 3:32you're videoing or taking a
- 3:34picture so um yeah
- 3:40There is supposed to be a
- 3:41stream from what I hear.
- 3:43There we go.
- 3:44Jay Burch has heard it.
- 3:46It makes sense there has to
- 3:47be if they hired those
- 3:48three to do commentating.
- 3:50Why would you hire them if
- 3:51there's not going to be
- 3:52anything going on?
- 3:54Sarah says we can ask GWTP later today.
- 3:57Get with the programming?
- 3:58Sure.
- 3:59Chase would know, I'm assuming.
- 4:06And Corey's saying the same.
- 4:07They'd bet damn well better be streaming.
- 4:09They got Chase and Angelo.
- 4:11So, yeah, I hope so.
- 4:14I'd like to know what's going on there.
- 4:18I'm going to circle back
- 4:19around to that for a second.
- 4:20But first thing I want to
- 4:21let you guys know is I'm
- 4:23going to have Justin Kotler
- 4:24on tonight at six p.m.
- 4:26Eastern time to talk about
- 4:28what it was like for the
- 4:29coaches at the World Fitness Project,
- 4:33plus his plans with Alex
- 4:36and Mano Anganese and what
- 4:38their plans are going forward.
- 4:40So we're going to have Justin on tonight,
- 4:43six p.m.
- 4:44Eastern time.
- 4:45To see what that was all about.
- 4:48I did watch the training
- 4:49think tank review of the WFP as well.
- 4:56And I thought they brought
- 4:57up some really good
- 4:58insights and some good suggestions.
- 5:02So I might use some of what
- 5:05they were saying to talk to Justin.
- 5:07I don't even have show notes for tonight.
- 5:10And I have some appointments
- 5:11this afternoon.
- 5:12So it may just be a conversation.
- 5:15We'll see where it goes.
- 5:17And if people are in the chat,
- 5:18we'll let them ask
- 5:19questions as well of Justin
- 5:21as to how it goes.
- 5:22But Alex won.
- 5:23His athlete won the first WFP.
- 5:27Mano Anganese is still trying to qualify.
- 5:29Alex is still trying to
- 5:30qualify for the CrossFit Games.
- 5:32Alex is putting all of her
- 5:34eggs in the NorCal basket.
- 5:37So it's going to be
- 5:37interesting to see what
- 5:38happens over the course of
- 5:40the next few weeks for them.
- 5:43Yeah.
- 5:46Yes.
- 5:46Those usually turn out to be
- 5:47the best interviews.
- 5:49I actually, I, I pretty regular,
- 5:52like I don't,
- 5:53I can probably on one hand
- 5:55have the number,
- 5:56the number of interviews
- 5:57I've done without show notes.
- 5:59And really I just have them just in case.
- 6:01my plan going into an
- 6:03interview is just to have a
- 6:04conversation and then I
- 6:05have the show notes just
- 6:07just in case just in case
- 6:09there's a lull in the
- 6:10conversation and I've got
- 6:11to go look for something
- 6:12else to talk about but
- 6:14generally my best
- 6:16interviews are when I never
- 6:17ever have to look at them
- 6:21and we just kind of chat
- 6:22about what's going on
- 6:26So again, tonight, six PM Eastern time,
- 6:29Justin Kotler underdog athletics.
- 6:32We will chat with him a little bit.
- 6:37So I've got a couple of things I want to,
- 6:39I want to talk about a
- 6:40little bit and I think I'll
- 6:41do it this way.
- 6:43TFX is this weekend.
- 6:44We've got some people hunting for their,
- 6:46their tickets to the CrossFit games,
- 6:50but this,
- 6:51this is what I kind of want to ask.
- 6:53Um,
- 6:57Uh, I don't, this is where I,
- 7:02I lean a little bit to the
- 7:03WFP and some comparison
- 7:05stuff is because of the way
- 7:08that the season structure
- 7:09is built in CrossFit.
- 7:12I don't feel like we're
- 7:13getting the best athletes
- 7:14to the games this year.
- 7:18Now you can go to mayhem and
- 7:19you can see Austin and
- 7:20Colton and Abby and fee, um,
- 7:26and and those are those are
- 7:27games caliber athletes for
- 7:28sure but you go to like the
- 7:31french throwdown you go to
- 7:34um wadland fest you go to
- 7:37brazil uh copa sir I'm not
- 7:40sure we're getting the best
- 7:43uh to the games and um I
- 7:48think it's the way the
- 7:49season is structured
- 7:51that we have all these
- 7:52multiple ways of people
- 7:53kind of getting into the CrossFit games.
- 7:58And I just don't think it's
- 8:00turning out to be a system
- 8:02that's working.
- 8:04When you cut the field down
- 8:05to thirty people,
- 8:08you need the best thirty
- 8:09people at the games.
- 8:12You need people who can
- 8:13impact the leaderboard from
- 8:15all thirty positions.
- 8:17to make it a good competition,
- 8:20to make it fun to watch,
- 8:22to make it interesting.
- 8:23And I just don't think that's happening.
- 8:27I love Bronislaw Alinkowitz.
- 8:29I think he's a really cool dude.
- 8:31I think he's super strong.
- 8:33But you can't tell me he's
- 8:34one of the best thirty men in the world.
- 8:38And he won the French Throwdown.
- 8:44So...
- 8:47I just think it's muddying
- 8:48the waters a little bit,
- 8:49the way the season is structured,
- 8:52because you can get in by A,
- 8:56you can get in by B,
- 8:58and we'll talk about that
- 8:59you can even get in by C now.
- 9:01So I don't... I just...
- 9:08And it's part of the reason
- 9:09that I think that the WFP
- 9:12actually has a chance
- 9:13because CrossFit keeps
- 9:16messing around with all
- 9:17these ways to qualify and
- 9:19making it more and more
- 9:20complicated and convoluted.
- 9:22And now at the end of the day,
- 9:24I don't think we're getting
- 9:25the best thirty athletes to the games.
- 9:27And so if we're not getting
- 9:28the best thirty athletes to the games,
- 9:30then there's something
- 9:31wrong with the design of
- 9:33the system in qualifying.
- 9:39And yeah, I mean, and then,
- 9:44then you have things like
- 9:46Guy is going to Torian for what?
- 9:49He's not, he,
- 9:50he can't qualify for the games.
- 9:52He chose not to do the
- 9:53CrossFit game season yet.
- 9:55He's going to go to Torian
- 9:56and mess up the leaderboard
- 9:58with a couple of good heavy lifts,
- 10:00a couple of good events and
- 10:04jack up the leaderboard at
- 10:05Torian for what?
- 10:08For what?
- 10:09I don't understand.
- 10:12Elisa Fuliano podiums at two.
- 10:14Both the European events
- 10:16would have qualified for
- 10:17the games out of both of them,
- 10:19but because she's not doing the season,
- 10:20she just mucked up the
- 10:22leaderboard so that the
- 10:24people who are trying to
- 10:25qualify can't do that.
- 10:33It just...
- 10:37I don't know.
- 10:38This whole thing of, like,
- 10:40allowing these third-party
- 10:43entities to make up their
- 10:45own rules and keep them
- 10:46regional and all that stuff
- 10:49is just preventing the people,
- 10:51the best people,
- 10:51from making it to the games.
- 10:56Yeah.
- 10:59I think those events, Andrew Stan,
- 11:00I think those events are
- 11:01getting the best athletes
- 11:02from those regions.
- 11:03Unfortunately,
- 11:04those athletes are not the
- 11:05same level as athletes from
- 11:07the U S Europe, Australia,
- 11:08for whatever reason.
- 11:10I also think like the
- 11:12European semifinals have
- 11:14been very biased to heavy lifting.
- 11:17And that's why Bronislaw
- 11:18Alinkowitz is going to the
- 11:19CrossFit games.
- 11:21Um,
- 11:24Andrew follows up,
- 11:25I left a comment for Dave
- 11:26on his week in review about
- 11:27constantly changing
- 11:28qualification process.
- 11:29His answer was not satisfying.
- 11:35Yeah, I watched that, Andrew,
- 11:38and his answer was
- 11:40something to the effect of, well,
- 11:44the reason we change it is
- 11:45to make it better.
- 11:46And I don't think this year
- 11:47is better in any way.
- 11:49Now,
- 11:49is it better fiscally and financially
- 11:52because you have given up
- 11:53control over everything in
- 11:56the qualification process?
- 11:57No.
- 11:59That may be better,
- 12:00the financial fiscal bottom line,
- 12:03but I don't think we're
- 12:04going to get the best
- 12:04athletes to the games.
- 12:06And in a year where there's
- 12:07other competition,
- 12:09this is the year where
- 12:10people need to compete.
- 12:12CrossFit needs to compete.
- 12:14They need to put their best
- 12:16foot forward to show they
- 12:17are the dominant entity in the sport.
- 12:25It doesn't matter if he doesn't go.
- 12:26He chose not to for financial reasons,
- 12:28but now he is making it to
- 12:30Torian somehow.
- 12:31I know.
- 12:42Ah,
- 12:42did some of the top athletes choose not
- 12:44to do the season?
- 12:45Maybe that's why there's a
- 12:46handful of people who chose
- 12:48not to do the season.
- 12:49And I,
- 12:50but I don't think that's why we're
- 12:51not getting the best.
- 12:53Um,
- 12:54The names out of Brazil,
- 12:56I can't even tell you what the names are.
- 12:58They're not even the typical people.
- 13:03Other than Kalen Souza,
- 13:04who qualified on the men's side,
- 13:06I couldn't even name the
- 13:07other three at all.
- 13:11It's not even the typical
- 13:12people that are the best
- 13:13from that region.
- 13:15It's just a weird,
- 13:16wacky process this year
- 13:18that I just don't think is
- 13:19working at all.
- 13:26thought he wanted to compete
- 13:27in brazil wasn't that the
- 13:28whole post of his about
- 13:29being at home and he didn't
- 13:31compete at brazil so he
- 13:33competed at he competed at
- 13:38mayhem and he's competing
- 13:39at torian um but I don't
- 13:41know uh those events should
- 13:48have a separate leaderboard
- 13:49for the money and the
- 13:50game's qualification
- 13:53one for the money one for
- 13:54the games qualification I
- 13:55think is what Andrew's
- 13:56saying I don't disagree
- 13:57with that but man make talk
- 13:59about complicated now we're
- 14:01really getting complicated
- 14:02in the way the season looks
- 14:09uh uh from what I heard
- 14:18Ricky and Jay are also doing Torian
- 14:22because they're allowed, like I get it.
- 14:23That's their home country there.
- 14:25And they can,
- 14:26they can compete in front of
- 14:27their home fans.
- 14:28I still don't like it.
- 14:29If,
- 14:30since they already have a spot to the
- 14:31games, they don't need to qualify.
- 14:37But I, I'm,
- 14:38I'm sure they're going to be
- 14:39allowed because they're
- 14:39going to be a draw.
- 14:43I just wish, I just wish it would,
- 14:45the season would make more sense.
- 14:53Corey says,
- 14:53who are the people you think
- 14:54should be going that aren't?
- 14:58I don't know yet.
- 15:00I don't know what the field is.
- 15:02But I'm telling you,
- 15:03if spots are being taken up
- 15:05by three people out of South America,
- 15:06they don't know their names.
- 15:08And someone like Braun,
- 15:09who is thirty seven years
- 15:11old and who hasn't been
- 15:13able to make the games for years.
- 15:18We're not sending the right people.
- 15:22So those spots are being
- 15:23taken up by people that are
- 15:25qualifying when there are
- 15:26other people that,
- 15:28that should be able to be,
- 15:29to qualify instead.
- 15:43Uh, Andrew says, no,
- 15:44you exclude the people who
- 15:45can't qualify for the games
- 15:46from the one leaderboard.
- 15:47That way their scores don't
- 15:49affect the athletes who are eligible.
- 15:50I understand what you're
- 15:51saying completely.
- 15:52It's just,
- 15:53you have two leaderboards and
- 15:54you have to explain it.
- 15:56Um, that's all it just,
- 15:59it adds a complication.
- 16:02Um,
- 16:04I mean, I just miss the days of a clean.
- 16:07These are the people going
- 16:08for their shot at the games,
- 16:10and either they qualify or they don't.
- 16:13The top X number do.
- 16:15Now we don't have that anymore.
- 16:16We have, well,
- 16:18this person didn't finish top one percent,
- 16:20or this person didn't even
- 16:21sign up for the Open,
- 16:22or this person chose not to
- 16:24do the season.
- 16:27And then whatever's left,
- 16:29they're down here mixed in.
- 16:33Yeah, it's a mess.
- 16:37The other topic I wanted to
- 16:38throw out to you guys today is all week.
- 16:41I've heard people comparing
- 16:45WFP to the CrossFit games,
- 16:47which I think is completely,
- 16:48completely unfair.
- 16:50The WFP tour stop one was
- 16:53the first step of their
- 16:54season and the way their
- 16:56season is structured.
- 16:58You don't know the story of
- 17:00the season until it plays out.
- 17:03So people were like,
- 17:04I didn't see the emotion.
- 17:05I didn't see the blood that
- 17:07I see when people qualify
- 17:08for the CrossFit Games.
- 17:10Well, no,
- 17:11because the qualification for the
- 17:13championships hasn't even
- 17:15happened yet with the WFP.
- 17:17They're building that
- 17:18storyline up with a system
- 17:20of points that then will
- 17:21qualify people for the
- 17:23championships of the WFP.
- 17:25Now, do I think in year one,
- 17:27the WFP is going to hold a
- 17:28candle to what the CrossFit
- 17:30Games means to athletes?
- 17:32No, but it's year one.
- 17:34It's year one.
- 17:36We have to see it play out.
- 17:38We have to see what the
- 17:41points leaderboard looks
- 17:43like in the future.
- 17:44And even through a full season this year,
- 17:48if they add more events,
- 17:49it's going to make it even bigger.
- 17:51more crucial about the
- 17:53points race throughout the season.
- 17:55And you're going to see
- 17:56storylines play out that
- 17:57you don't see in this weird
- 18:00convoluted CrossFit game season.
- 18:03And I'm not putting my money
- 18:05behind either horse.
- 18:07I just think that we have to
- 18:10let them have their
- 18:11opportunity to show the
- 18:13entire thing and how it's
- 18:15going to play out and how
- 18:17the storylines are going to
- 18:18play out before we start
- 18:20making final decisions as
- 18:22to this one is way better than this one.
- 18:26there's no way that an
- 18:27entity coming in in year
- 18:29one is going to hold the
- 18:31prestige and the honor that
- 18:34the CrossFit Games have
- 18:35established over fifteen
- 18:37years or twenty years now.
- 18:40We need to see what happens
- 18:42through a couple seasons of
- 18:44the WFP and see if that
- 18:47actually becomes something
- 18:49a little bit more
- 18:53fun to watch and makes it um
- 18:56easier to understand and
- 18:58that people are excited
- 18:59about playing in the
- 19:00championship like the fedex
- 19:02cup and golf didn't happen
- 19:05until a handful of years
- 19:06ago and now it is like the
- 19:08biggest thing you're trying
- 19:09to earn your points to
- 19:11qualify for the fedex cup
- 19:13so you can play for the
- 19:14championship of championships um
- 19:20And that's I think what
- 19:22World Fitness Project is
- 19:23trying to accomplish.
- 19:25But you can't see that until
- 19:26it's played out over a couple of events.
- 19:39Halpin says, this is a sanctional model.
- 19:41There were athletes
- 19:42competing and winning
- 19:43competitions from two
- 19:44thousand nineteen and
- 19:44twenty that had no way of
- 19:45going to the games.
- 19:47I agree with you.
- 19:49I am not.
- 19:50I did not like the only
- 19:52difference about the sanctional model.
- 19:53And this is a sanctional model.
- 19:55I qualified more athletes to
- 19:57the games so they could be
- 19:59weeded out through cuts.
- 20:00So you had the better
- 20:01athletes at the end of the weekend.
- 20:08i.e roman qualifying year
- 20:10over year after with no
- 20:11shot at a visa I get it
- 20:21okay but but by that same
- 20:23logic those dudes at the
- 20:24french throwdown had every
- 20:25opportunity to beat braun
- 20:27and they didn't he won
- 20:28seventy eight years old or not
- 20:31My issue with the French
- 20:32throwdown is they
- 20:33restricted who could sign
- 20:35up for the event.
- 20:38They had to have X number of
- 20:40French athletes.
- 20:40It had to have X number of
- 20:42European athletes.
- 20:43And so when the field is
- 20:45taken up with all of that,
- 20:47it's hard to get people who may deserve,
- 20:51who may be better athletes at football.
- 20:57better athletes could not
- 20:58jump into that lineup to do
- 21:00that plus it was the same
- 21:01weekend as wfp and that was
- 21:02a competition um but brazil
- 21:05was not and brazil was
- 21:07restricted just to south
- 21:08american central and south
- 21:10american countries d reed
- 21:15says corey don't hate on
- 21:16the old guys uh it was me
- 21:19it was me doug I'm the one
- 21:20who uh hated on the old
- 21:22guys first he's just
- 21:23jumping on my bandwagon
- 21:30Andrew Sten,
- 21:30my biggest worry with the WFP
- 21:32is they are trying to be too big,
- 21:33too quick, and they flame out.
- 21:35They need to build and not
- 21:36just expect people to show
- 21:37up because the people that are there.
- 21:41I don't think that they...
- 21:44I would hope that they don't
- 21:45think that that is the case.
- 21:47I think they're just trying
- 21:48to show what is possible
- 21:50and they're trying to do
- 21:51things in a way that are
- 21:52different and better and in their,
- 21:54in their eyes.
- 21:56And maybe some of this stuff
- 21:57that we saw this weekend
- 21:58was just a trial and maybe
- 22:00we're not going to see it
- 22:01at tour stop too.
- 22:02I don't know, but, um,
- 22:05But to me,
- 22:06if you don't have storytelling
- 22:08with what's going on,
- 22:09you're not going to get
- 22:10people showing up.
- 22:11So people are going to have
- 22:12to start understanding the
- 22:13point system and what
- 22:14stories those are telling
- 22:16for people to show up and
- 22:19to spectate those events.
- 22:24T-Bird, it is media,
- 22:25not you and people comparing the two,
- 22:27not CrossFit or WFP.
- 22:29It doesn't have to be one or the other.
- 22:30I'm just happy to see more
- 22:32competitions and know the
- 22:33difference between the games and the WFP.
- 22:36Where I disagree with you a little bit,
- 22:38T-Bird,
- 22:39is that I want it to be a competition.
- 22:43I want it to be between the two of them.
- 22:45I want them to get better
- 22:47because they have to
- 22:48compete against each other
- 22:49and things get better.
- 22:52When CrossFit has had no competition,
- 22:54they have not made changes
- 22:56that make sense to make a
- 22:58better product that goes
- 23:00out on the floor.
- 23:02I am hopeful that with these two competing,
- 23:05that it will force both of
- 23:07them to put their best foot
- 23:09forward to make the best
- 23:10product that they can out on the floor.
- 23:14That's what I want.
- 23:16And either the strongest
- 23:18survives or they combine
- 23:21and decide to do something together.
- 23:30Andrew Sten says,
- 23:31they did such a bad job
- 23:32with the community event there.
- 23:33This was a bad look for them.
- 23:36Again, it was their first attempt.
- 23:39But I do agree,
- 23:39hiding them in the back
- 23:40corner probably isn't the
- 23:41best way to go about things.
- 23:49Uh...
- 23:58I don't think they had the
- 23:59expectation that people
- 24:00were going to show up.
- 24:00They were excited.
- 24:01They sold a few hundred
- 24:03tickets two days before the comp started.
- 24:09To try to guess what their
- 24:10expectations are is unfair to them.
- 24:13We don't know their budget.
- 24:15We don't know the money source.
- 24:17We don't know what their expectations are.
- 24:20We need to see it play out.
- 24:23And that's all I'm saying is
- 24:24let it play out before you
- 24:26start making comparisons.
- 24:27But to compare like Tour
- 24:29Stop One to the CrossFit
- 24:30Games isn't even comparing
- 24:32apples to apples.
- 24:40Denise Moore,
- 24:41I almost want to travel to
- 24:42Arizona to watch it in person.
- 24:44I am with you.
- 24:45I'm actually...
- 24:46thinking about trying to get
- 24:48out to Mesa for that one
- 24:50but it's right around the
- 24:51same time as the age group
- 24:52CrossFit games and I'm not
- 24:54going to give up the age
- 24:55group CrossFit games for
- 24:57that um so there you go uh
- 25:08t-bird did anyone see tef
- 25:09review of WFP I think Sean
- 25:10was way off on some things
- 25:12seems to have changed his
- 25:13tune on CrossFit all of a sudden
- 25:28Yeah,
- 25:32I help in first attempt and not to
- 25:34compare,
- 25:34but what did age groups coverage
- 25:37look like at the games in
- 25:38twenty twenty three?
- 25:39Pathetic.
- 25:41Last year, the age group did great.
- 25:48He also says Denise,
- 25:49it's amazing in person.
- 25:53James,
- 25:54criticisms of WFP after a single
- 25:56event are wild.
- 25:57CrossFit has been putting on
- 25:58the games for nearly twenty
- 25:59years and have constant
- 26:00issues that should have
- 26:02been worked out by now.
- 26:03Let's give WFP some time.
- 26:05Amen, brother.
- 26:06I've been saying that all week.
- 26:08For years,
- 26:09I have been critical of what the
- 26:11games has done.
- 26:15And that they need to improve,
- 26:16and they've done nothing to do that.
- 26:19And now they need someone to
- 26:20compete against them to
- 26:21push them in the right direction.
- 26:25And either they're going to
- 26:26change or they're going to die off.
- 26:29That's just the way the
- 26:31things work in this world.
- 26:35Blockbuster Netflix.
- 26:38Blockbuster refused to
- 26:39change with the times.
- 26:42So instead of comparing to other sports,
- 26:44I'll do that.
- 26:45I'll compare it to a business situation.
- 27:00The WFP deserves every ounce of criticism.
- 27:02The way they went about
- 27:04things pissed off CrossFit supporters.
- 27:07I don't understand why you
- 27:07have to pick one side or the other.
- 27:10I don't get it.
- 27:14Like, they can learn from one another,
- 27:16and they can get better,
- 27:17and maybe one outlasts the other, but...
- 27:24I've said on the show thousands of times,
- 27:27CrossFit saved my life.
- 27:28Without it, I'd be dead today.
- 27:31If you don't know my story,
- 27:33I started at five hundred
- 27:34pounds in two thousand eleven.
- 27:35I am weighing under five
- 27:37hundred pounds now and I'm
- 27:38still alive and I owe
- 27:41CrossFit all of that.
- 27:44what is but when it comes to
- 27:46the sport crossfit has been
- 27:48screwing the pooch for
- 27:49years they don't have a
- 27:51system that is easy to
- 27:53explain to my friends or to
- 27:55show people or to um make a
- 27:59viewable attempt at things
- 28:01they don't change year
- 28:02after year and they need
- 28:04competition to push them in
- 28:05a more creative and better situation
- 28:20maybe people mean because
- 28:22WFP stole some athletes
- 28:24from the CrossFit game
- 28:24season Laura Laura and Emma
- 28:30Tall I think is I think
- 28:32those are the only athletes
- 28:33that that chose just to do
- 28:35the WFP season oh Pat
- 28:37Vellner I don't know
- 28:51Nothing gets better if it's
- 28:52not looked at critically.
- 28:53There's nothing wrong with
- 28:54critiquing an event.
- 28:56I agree.
- 28:57We've been critical of
- 28:58CrossFit and it seems like
- 29:00WFP came around and we
- 29:00forgot about all the
- 29:01criticisms we've been
- 29:02saying about CrossFit.
- 29:04And now we're just saying
- 29:06they're always the best and they are like,
- 29:08did we not forget?
- 29:09Eighteen months ago,
- 29:10we've been we were bitching
- 29:11about the seasons that
- 29:12CrossFit was putting together.
- 29:18that's what's,
- 29:19that's what's boggling my mind.
- 29:30Sarah Cooper.
- 29:31I don't think Elisa Fuliano
- 29:32would have done, or she's not doing WFP.
- 29:35Like she's not doing any of them.
- 29:38Uh,
- 29:39Emily dropped out because she's hurt her.
- 29:42She hurt her back and it's
- 29:45either rested or she's not
- 29:47going to have a shot at anything.
- 29:49Um,
- 29:49and she's going to try to do NorCal to
- 29:52qualify for the CrossFit games,
- 29:53but she needs to rest it
- 29:55for a few weeks to be able to do so.
- 29:59Um,
- 30:01Alex is risking it, but I know that she,
- 30:04and maybe I'll get this out
- 30:05of Justin tonight,
- 30:06I know she was fighting
- 30:07with a shoulder injury
- 30:08earlier in the season.
- 30:10She won this weekend,
- 30:12and maybe her shoulder
- 30:12isn't up to being able to
- 30:14take back-to-back weeks,
- 30:15and that's why they had to
- 30:17go with NorCal and the WFP.
- 30:21So I don't think she's
- 30:22picked anything yet.
- 30:27So I don't know.
- 30:37uh meredith yeah I don't
- 30:39know for the overt
- 30:40negativity or refusing to
- 30:41even mention the name wfp
- 30:43seems immature uh and we
- 30:52can't uh control what
- 30:53people assume or perceive
- 30:56yeah I in all honesty I
- 30:59want crossfit to get better
- 31:01I have followed this sport.
- 31:03I've been a volunteer in the
- 31:04sport since two thousand thirteen.
- 31:06I've been to regionals and
- 31:08sanctionals and all of the
- 31:10stuff up to through the
- 31:11games for years and years and years.
- 31:15I don't want to stop doing that.
- 31:17But I but they're not
- 31:19changing and they're not getting better.
- 31:22We need something to push them.
- 31:36So, Doug, I care about both.
- 31:51I don't think the
- 31:52methodology is going anywhere.
- 31:57Um,
- 32:01it's it's the greatest way
- 32:03of fitnessing in my opinion
- 32:04that's out there and I
- 32:07don't think it's going
- 32:07anywhere but when we're
- 32:09talking about the sport I
- 32:22know a lot of people say
- 32:23word salad I don't think that
- 32:29I think word salad is the
- 32:32new way of speaking for
- 32:34people in this day and age.
- 32:36I work for state government.
- 32:39I hear directors and
- 32:42senators and congressmen and governors.
- 32:45It's all word salad, man.
- 32:46Every single day of my life is word salad.
- 32:49It's just the way the world
- 32:50is working now.
- 32:52And I don't think that
- 32:55The public persona of Will
- 32:58and Jackson are maybe the
- 33:00best faces of what WFP are.
- 33:04I don't think they have a
- 33:06lot of experience in front
- 33:07of a camera or on a live
- 33:08show doing interviews.
- 33:11And so I think they get
- 33:12nervous and confused at times.
- 33:19Just my opinion.
- 33:25So.
- 33:28Yes, Halpin.
- 33:30Hiller showed up at WFP on
- 33:32Sunday at some point.
- 33:34I didn't know the day.
- 33:35I guess it was Sunday.
- 33:37But he actually said in
- 33:38person it was really well done.
- 33:40His only thing is it had to
- 33:41have cost a lot of money
- 33:42with what they had done and
- 33:44doesn't see that it can be
- 33:46sustainable at that level.
- 33:52And he may be right.
- 33:53I don't know the money
- 33:54they're working with and I
- 33:55don't pretend to know.
- 33:57I would just assume if
- 33:59you're putting this forward,
- 34:02you're not doing it to lose
- 34:03money year over year and
- 34:05you're trying to find a way
- 34:06to make money.
- 34:07So you got to trust that they have a plan.
- 34:22so yeah corey and that's a
- 34:26number that gets thrown
- 34:27around but I don't know
- 34:28that for a fact I have no
- 34:31idea if that's true or not
- 34:39and if I'm a private
- 34:40company and I'm doing
- 34:40something the last thing
- 34:42I'm showing the public is
- 34:43my are my books so
- 34:56Sarah says exactly Corey
- 34:57Saxon didn't seem to give
- 34:59straight answers.
- 35:00I think he has a tougher job
- 35:01than the other two.
- 35:02I think what they're doing
- 35:03with the affiliate model,
- 35:05their affiliate model and
- 35:06their community outreach is
- 35:10much more... I don't know.
- 35:20Much more...
- 35:21across the line shady than
- 35:24what the sport is doing I'm
- 35:26just talking about the
- 35:27sport I don't know what's
- 35:29going on with this
- 35:30community piece that
- 35:31they're doing in affiliates
- 35:33and I don't know enough to
- 35:34talk education educated
- 35:36enough about it to make any sense
- 35:45potential buyers of the book.
- 35:46I'm talking about WFP.
- 35:48WFP is not up for sale.
- 35:50So nobody has seen those books.
- 35:52Nobody really knows what's going on there.
- 35:55And if I'm the WFP,
- 35:56I'm not showing it to anybody.
- 35:58Nobody needs to know what my
- 35:59financials are.
- 36:01I'm just putting forward this sport,
- 36:04this thing,
- 36:06and it's up to me to budget it
- 36:09and make sure that the money lasts.
- 36:18T-Bird asks, aren't they like High Rocks?
- 36:20You can still be CrossFit, High Rocks,
- 36:22et cetera, and a WFP affiliate.
- 36:24You don't have to choose.
- 36:27I wish there was a straight
- 36:28answer to this question
- 36:29because I believe Saxon was
- 36:30asked this outright,
- 36:32and I believe he said you could.
- 36:36I just,
- 36:37it didn't seem like a complete answer.
- 36:40Back to what Sarah and Corey
- 36:42are saying earlier in the chat.
- 36:46And again, I am for supporting the sport.
- 36:49I don't know what the
- 36:50affiliate piece means for them.
- 37:06So, last thing I want to talk about,
- 37:09and then I have to get
- 37:10going because I have some
- 37:10appointments this afternoon,
- 37:12and that is...
- 37:21Last chance qualifier was announced.
- 37:25We finally have the details
- 37:26of the last chance qualifier.
- 37:28They're happening June
- 37:29twelfth to the sixteenth.
- 37:31Final opportunity to get a
- 37:32spot at the CrossFit Games.
- 37:34Who's in the top fifty non
- 37:36games qualifying athletes
- 37:37from the in affiliate
- 37:38semifinals and the top ten
- 37:40non games qualifying
- 37:42athletes from each in person qualifier.
- 37:45That is a lot of people.
- 37:49Exact leaderboard positions
- 37:51may vary depending on
- 37:52previous qualifications.
- 37:53All athletes must have
- 37:54placed in the top one
- 37:54percent of the twenty
- 37:55twenty five open to be eligible.
- 37:58Eligible athletes will
- 37:59receive an official email
- 38:00invitation from Hustle Up.
- 38:03No second chances, no excuses.
- 38:04Earn your place.
- 38:08what I don't understand with
- 38:09this is we've already had an open,
- 38:12we've already had an in
- 38:13affiliate semifinal,
- 38:15and now we're having a
- 38:16third online competition to
- 38:18get the last one person into the games.
- 38:25Like just rinse and repeat,
- 38:26rinse and repeat.
- 38:27They've already competed
- 38:28against each other two times.
- 38:31And now we're going to ask
- 38:32them to compete against
- 38:33each other for a third time.
- 38:35That makes absolutely no freaking sense.
- 38:40And these are the things
- 38:41that I'm telling you that
- 38:42we have bitched about for
- 38:44years and seem to forget
- 38:46about now that WFP is
- 38:47around and we want to be
- 38:49full on support of CrossFit.
- 38:51They've got to start doing better.
- 38:54They've got to start doing better.
- 38:57This is absolutely absurd.
- 39:00And yes, it's about the money.
- 39:05You got to sign up.
- 39:06You got to pay your fee for one op.
- 39:09If that's going to be like a
- 39:10hundred and some athletes
- 39:12and they're going to have,
- 39:15and they're going to have
- 39:16one open spot to, to compete for.
- 39:20It's absurd.
- 39:20It's absurd.
- 39:32And speaking of no community coverage,
- 39:34it's the same week as a community cup,
- 39:35which is also an affiliates.
- 39:37They just overshadowed their
- 39:38own community event.
- 39:42There it is.
- 39:46That's what I'm saying.
- 39:47People, if WFP didn't exist,
- 39:51we would be bitching about
- 39:52the way this season looks
- 39:54that CrossFit has put forward.
- 39:59Now WFP is here and all of a
- 40:00sudden we're going to defend the gates.
- 40:05How about look in the mirror
- 40:06and get better?
- 40:09I want CrossFit to get better.
- 40:14I'm not saying I want WFP to
- 40:16take over the world or
- 40:17anything like that.
- 40:18I want CrossFit to get better.
- 40:20I want both to be good.
- 40:26On that note,
- 40:29Time to get back to work,
- 40:30you knuckleheads.
- 40:32We'll see everybody next time.
- 40:34Well, join me tonight, Justin Kotler,
- 40:36six p.m.
- 40:37Eastern time on the show,
- 40:39talking about the WFP, Alex Kazan,
- 40:42Mano Anganese.
- 40:44And then I'll be back
- 40:45tomorrow with another lunch show.
- 40:46With that, guys,
- 40:47we'll see everybody next
- 40:48time on Lunch with the Clydesdale.
