- Canon Stogner: Welcome back to another episode of the Saturday Slate. we are here with our co-host Andrew and obviously myself, Canon. before we start, I just wanted to ask, give you a quick five second countdown. If you're not already to go Andrew Wright: it. Canon Stogner: ahead and like, subscribe, and leave a comment on our video that helps get us out to more people. And yeah, we appreciate the people who continue to tune in to listen to us idiots talk about football. other than that, yeah. Let's get into it, Andrew. What a freaking weekend for the South Carolina Game Cox. Andrew Wright: Yeah, very, very big, much needed. Canon Stogner: I mean Shane it it's hard not to s mention that Shane Beamer has had a lot of big wins. Not a lot of big wins, sorry, that was a stretch. He's had some very massive what people say program changing wins since he's been the head coach. you've beaten Clemson twice, you blow out Tennessee at home, you storm the field, you storm the field against Texas A and at home. and you've won some pretty big road games. but you're going into the game, backs against the wall, Dylan Stewart coming back from suspension, Florida, who we'll get into that in a minute. but coming off their first loss of the season against Missouri, so you're thinking, All right, well, just another Saturday. You turn it on, just hope at this point you're just hoping they don't get embarrassed in the game. and what do you know? They have another broken coverage. Game gets off to a slow start on both sides of the ball for both teams, really, until the broken play. and then after that, South Carolina turned it on, and it looked like the team that we all thought they could be this year. Maybe not expected to be, but we thought it was a team that they could be this year with the talent that they have surrounding the offense and defense. but yeah, what a freaking win. But, anyways, back to my point about Shane Beamer. I think that may have been. Personally to him, his biggest win as a Andrew Wright: Yep. Canon Stogner: head coach of South Carolina, 'cause obviously he's heard the noise. He mentioned it himself. obviously, you know, he's been a little bit more antsy pantsy in the press conferences and how he's answered questions that reporters have asked him. So you know he was feeling the pressure and he even said himself like his kids don't deserve the dad that they've had the last couple of weeks and the things that they've heard about their dad. so yeah, that's why I say that was probably the biggest win for him. As the head coach at South Carolina. just completely unexpected. They dominated both sides of the ball, especially in the second half. I kind of joke with some people like they beat the stank out of Florida. Like, Florida didn't even take a shower. They they completely wiped away all scents of Florida Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: that they had. and it's really just very impressive. You saw the Lenore sellers that you thought we should have seen? last year and this year with the new OC, throwing the ball in tight windows, finding open guys, going through his reads, trusting his receivers that are on the field. and it feels like Lenores and South Carolina has a massive target on their back, with the media because it's like every time you see anybody like talk to a coach or a player that's not smiling and all daisies and sunshines, they po it gets posted and you know, like what's going on in South Carolina, like Blah, blah, blah, overreacting, overreacting, overreacting. obviously clickbaiting, but it is what's going on. And I'm so sick and tired of seeing that. That happens in every team, whether you have are winless on the season or whether you're undefeated. It happens every time the camera just so happened to pick up on it. And I really don't think it was that fiery. you know, Lenores threw a deep ball to Mazeo Bennett and overthrew him about probably five or ten yards, and it's probably just a miscommunication on the route. So not a d big deal. But anyways, yeah, thrash Florida really kept Jaden Ball under I mean, really held him other than one or two thr runs, they really held him completely, shut him down. Nick Harbor looked okay. Not great. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: He did have a couple drops right in his hands. But I was actually talking to Lucas and he said, You think maybe like Fury just told him to stop trying to catch with his hands? just because of he's catching everything with his body, which not a big deal. All right. He played good yesterday. Matt Fuller is still running the ball hard. Jabri Coleman's running the ball hard. Judge Collier goes out early in the first half. Not exactly sure if it was the first or second quarter. ninja Marcus Leach comes in and defense didn't miss a beat. really just played great complimentary football and got a massive road top twenty five win. Which is huge going into the bye week. yeah, so what were your thoughts? Andrew Wright: yeah, very, very much needed to win. And I kind of felt the same way watching the beginning. You get the busted coverage and you're like, yeah, here we go again. Communications, all we've heard about and obviously it ain't fixed yet. And yet they turned it on after that. And it was like, where has this team been all year? And it just really makes you think like, is the team as bad as the record says it is? Cause it really doesn't appear that it is. If you go back and they've played a couple of bad haves, but like I don't think there are three and three football team like you could argue and you would have a very valid argument that they should be Canon Stogner: Okay. Andrew Wright: five and one. Like I you could argue either way because both of those leads they blew, they had very early leads and had plenty of time to blow double the leads. But like there is definitely a case we made that they could and should be a five in one team just because of what we saw yesterday with Lenore's kind of settling in there late in the first half into the second half, making those throws. You had the whole situation, like you mentioned with him and Mazio. Kind of just snappy there for a second and then whatever it was they got over it It was over and then Mazio actually led the team in receptions yesterday after that. So like obviously they found something You had him we felt like Harbor made somebody look small for the first time in his four years like I don't think not that I can remember Nick Harbor ever just malsing somebody like that and Making it look way too easy So that was really good. And for me another thing like They won a game where they didn't run the ball great. They only averaged three yards a carry. And like the run game has been one of the best in the entire country this year. And we were kind of counting on that. Like, hey, we kind of laid it out before the game. Like if they're going to win this game, it's going to have to be because of the run. And then they won it in spite of not being able to run the ball well. Defense stepped up, like you said, with Jane Ball. I think he had 15 carries right around 60 yards. And he busted one kind of decent once he had really kept him in check. Just really, really impressed overall. Shane Beamer, heck of a job. He kind of. Kind of cooled off and maybe just completely ended the hot seat talks rest of the year. I guess for right now it's a job saving win. We'll kind of see how the rest of the season plays out after the bye and see what they do down the stretch in those last six games to kind of see what his future holds at South Carolina. Be a massive land on the road, double digit underdogs. Yeah, really, really big. And hopefully, hopefully the by leak isn't bad. Like hopefully they don't lose all the momentum that they kind of built up going into the by week. And hopefully they don't come out flat against Tennessee in a couple weeks. Be a really, really big win, really happy Canon Stogner: Yeah. Andrew Wright: for the fellas. Canon Stogner: To kinda piggyback off what you were saying about Holy crap, what were saying? God. it'll come to me. but I just I want to give huge credit to the offensive line. Andrew Wright: You Canon Stogner: The offensive line has been very, very good this year. they they're blocking just enough for with the type of quarterback that they have with the Norse. Like, very rare that there's a free runner. And I mean, sometimes they're not even getting, he's not even getting touched back there. And if they are, it's A lot of times it is probably only Norris, like holding the ball too long. but yeah, the offensive line has been incredible. They've mixed up a lot of the offensive line with Jacarius Pete coming back. And they've been blocking very good, even in the passing game, although the passing game hasn't been there this year, they've been blocking very well in that. So that's a positive. what you were what you were to respond to your five and one comment. We were talking about that yesterday. Like if you get off the field in on the third and twenty one against Mississippi State or third and fifteen, Andrew Wright: Yep. Canon Stogner: whatever, and then in the third and thirteen, you're probably gonna win that game. Okay. But Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: you can't you're not we're not blame making excuses or blaming anybody for that. Andrew Wright: Right. Canon Stogner: and then you're up seventeen nothing against Kentucky. You have blown coverage on the game winning two point conversion. If you lock that up, you beat a ranked team at home and now you're four and two or five and one against going or after beating Florida. And it's not to say that, you know, we're over exaggerating about South Carolina saying they're terrible or that they're a bad football team, but I mean, yeah, they've shot themselves in the foot. So you can definitely I mean they've competed with all these teams. Alabama was a ugly game the first half, but the second half was much better. They're competing with every team that they're playing, which I thought South Carolina was probably obviously they're pissed off about losing Kentucky, but They're probably even more mad going into the Florida game because Kentucky won at South Carolina and then dropped out of the rankings. And then Kentucky beats LSU yesterday. So AP pollers, don't even get me don't please don't get me started on the A P poll. just the voters. It's it's disgusting. Andrew Wright: It is, I agree. Canon Stogner: so yeah, very big win. before we continue on to the next game, next topic, I do want to I was told by my mom to make sure that we're saying our phone number. So if you would like to give a call, because we always save it for the end, if you would like to give us a call, it's always at the bottom of the screen as well. Please call us at 864-406-1414. It will send you straight to a voicemail that will be sent directly to us where we can listen to any questions or comments that you may have on any team, any game, and hopefully we answer those for you. but yeah, so going into the bye-week, they'll have Tennessee coming after that. So Looking forward to that. This could be a s could be a eight and four season. Could be. And Andrew Wright: Yeah, could be. Yeah, could be. Absolutely. Canon Stogner: you get Georgia at home. And I'll be honest with you, I really think Georgia, I mean South Carolina matches up well with Georgia. Which, yes, weeks away. We're gonna lose probably one or two games by then. but I really think they match up well with against Georgia. Georgia still likes to run the ball, and I think South Carolina's running defense has been very good this year. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: You know, after every week we're always talking about how good the quarterback played. So I think they match up much better than they have in the past years. But one thing that bothered me, listen to Cyclona fans. First of there's still fan fans saying Shane Beamer should be fired. Shane Beamer should be fired. You're who you're gonna get. If he if he wanted to leave, he would have left last year with Virginia Tech. He clearly loves it. You could tell he was clearly bothered and clearly relieved of the win. but you know, I was on that golf trip and There was a guy there who's a South Carolina fan. His wife is actually a Florida fan. And after South Carolina won, like, we're eating lunch. And I'm like, yeah, how about those Game Cox, dude? And he's like, doesn't do nothing for me. I'm like, what do you mean? He's like, it doesn't mean anything. I'm like, what do you mean it doesn't mean anything? We won a road game against a ranked opponent. What do you mean it doesn't mean anything? I'm like It's not the NFL, the more games we win, the further we fall down in the draft. It's not that at all. That's a massive Andrew Wright: Yeah, right. Canon Stogner: win. What that it was crazy. It was crazy. It was I was disgusted to hear that from a Saskala fan who actually, I he knew ball. He knew what he talking about. But disgusting, disgusting behavior and comments. Andrew Wright: That's the first road-ranked victory since Clubson in 2024, right? Yeah, it don't mean that. Canon Stogner: So All right. On to the probably my favorite topic of the night. not the biggest game of the day, but Oklahoma walks off the Steve Sarkeesian, the Arch Manning, the Texas Longhorns in what what was a beautiful game and beautiful ending to college football. And I told my dad this earlier on the phone. As bad as he has been this year. If Lenore Sellers is on Texas, they would be undefeated. Arch Manning has no clue what he is doing on that field. He is very good. I'll give him credit. He is very good at making some big time throws. Andrew Wright: Yeah Canon Stogner: you know, he's got very good talented receivers. He makes some big time throws, but he's very spotty. He's not consistent at all. He is scared Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: to death in the pocket. He's scared to death to get hit. If you take away his first read, although he's throwing to Julio Jones, if you take away his first read, he is shaky. And we saw it yesterday with the two interceptions he threw. The first interception was horrendous. But hey, all credit to Archman. Great effort on the to try to stop him from scoring. Great effort. So he'll probably get drafted for his defense. might become a safety. and then his interception to give ball the ball back to Oklahoma was awful. You know, he was clearly Andrew Wright: awful. Canon Stogner: scared. Just look like us, we play Madden. You could feel the pressure and you just click a button Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Yep. Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: and he threw it right to the guy. So completely out on Arch. And I honestly think we were early on it. And I I kind of feel like it's starting to shift a little bit, the momentum on Arch Manning. And I think a lot of Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Canon Stogner: people are starting to see it that he does not have it. He's got a great team. He's got an incredible defense. He's got an incredible offense around him. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: But the number one team in the country, which I thought was crazy anyways, the number one team in the country does have a quarterback. Doesn't have a quarterback. so yeah, completely out on arch. over to Oklahoma, massive win for them. Probably as big as a win for their fans as it feels like for South Carolina fans and Brent Venables. with you know, you've been struggling. You had such high expectations. John Mateira obviously hyped up. And, you know, you've lost some bad games this year. Your offense hasn't been able to do anything, and then you go and win. which Offense still didn't do much. I mean, you scored on a pick six, you got a interception to win the game, and then you blocked the punt Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: in the end zone. So, yeah, but massive win for them. You can't lose that game if you're Texas. You cannot lose that game. Andrew Wright: Right, can't do it. Canon Stogner: As good as your defense played. but yeah, when you don't have a quarterback, you can't do it. Andrew, your thoughts, please. I'm getting hot over here. Andrew Wright: so obviously we both kind of love that just from kind of how we view Texas for the season and kind of how we viewed Arch Manning. I really thought yesterday was he played about as opposite as he could have from the entire season. Cause like this season he's been really good on script to start games. And then he's kind of been in the middle and then he'll come out at the end. Like we saw in the Ohio State game in that fourth quarter, those couple of drives and he'll play really good at the of the game. Yesterday was just a complete opposite. He played really really good I think he went through now in the first draft and then after that he played really really well Up until the end of the game like it was just like completely opposite from what it's been the entire season which was just very weird and But like said love to see he know he did respond well after the pick six He came back through a really nice deep ball to get him down the field and then threw a little check down to a lot of me guy that made a man miss to get into the end zone and they scored and now then After that, like you said, that like a Madden throw that was I know what Blitz is coming. I can't figure out where exactly it's coming from. So I'm just going to snap it and hope this guy gets open and he didn't and it costs his team the game. So love to see that. I'm like you said, the momentum is definitely shifting. Texas is good. Canon Stogner: Andrew, Andrew, Andrew, Andrew, Andrew, we have a bet that Texas cannot win ten or more games. Andrew Wright: And I'm getting, let me read you their schedule the rest of the way. So they have Florida next week, which will be a really desperate Florida team at this point, playing for their seeds basically. They can't lose three in a row and stuff, any hopes. After that, get Mississippi, so Florida, then they get Ole Miss, Louisville game, Mississippi State, Louisville game, Missouri, looks like a juggernaut, at LSU. Probably gonna be a night game at LSU, which is always a tough environment and they finished with Arkansas and Texas A Like you can make the argument that they will be in dogfights for the next five weeks It's like that win that them losing yesterday was huge for our bet just because of the way the schedule plays out and the amount of Losable games because we've already seen with this SE skeet like this nine game SEC schedule. It's been an absolute gauntlet I think George's only team in the conference without a loss already. Like it is an absolute gauntlet and anybody can be anybody except Arkansas on any given week. And so that's just how I think Texas the season plays out at this point is can we get through Canon Stogner: Well Andrew Wright: this week? Canon Stogner: well, here's my thing. Okay, Tex going into the week, Texas was number one. Okay. Yeah, they beat Ohio State at home. You have a miracle comeback in the third and fourth quarter. Ohio State's kicker misses a field goal to put the game to two scores and pretty much out. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: It's going to end the game. Then, so you get moved up to number one after that. Okay. Fine win. Then you play Tennessee. And Tennessee, the very next week, I can't remember it was against Auburn. And they benched the guy who played the whole game pretty much, other than injury, against Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Yep. Canon Stogner: you. And it came down to a Hail Mary. And so like Steve Sarkeesan is a great coach. They have a great roster. And so like it bothers me whenever It bothers me whenever these scouts, I guess just because of the name, that he's like projected the number one quarterback taken off the list. If you go, if you put on a screen side by side and watch him and Trinidad operate, it's completely different. And, Andrew Wright: Right. Canon Stogner: you know, you go look at the past number one overall quarterbacks, you have Cam Ward, who I mean, what, he's won one or two games in his NFL career. He's very, he's Andrew Wright: think he's like 3 and 15. Yeah. Canon Stogner: very close to being a bust. You have Bryce Young, who got benched, and you see what he's doing now. These guys dominated college football. Cam Moore and Bryce Young dominated college football. Arch Manning's not doing that at all. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Yep. Yeah. Canon Stogner: He's not doing that at all. And so if you're the number one quarterback, if you're the number one pick in the draft, you're playing on a team that probably doesn't have a quarterback Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: and desperately needs one. And when you need a quarterback, A lot of your team starts to disintegrate and you know, you're starting to rebuild. Arch Manning's not a quarterback that you can rebuild with. Saying it now. He's not, he's not a quarterback that you're gonna rebuild and develop behind him. Because if you can't never mind. I I'm done. I'm done with Arch. I'm done with Arch. He he's out. And by the way, breaking news, which I've already broken it, but one six, South Carolina's quarterback is now Lenore Sellers to He is officially back on name basis. all right. On to the next biggest game of the weekend. We had Georgia and Alabama. Georgia gets the win 20 to 17 at Alabama. Really good game. Very clearly, probably the two best SEC teams going at it. these games are always incredible to watch between Kirby Smart and either Nick Sabin or Calen DeBoer. Very good game. Alabama did get. Probably unlucky with the pass interference call being picked up, which I don't understand why it was picked up. And I honestly thought live, I was like, that's that that was a good no call. And then when they showed the replay, and I'm like, Whoa. Andrew Wright: Yeah, that's yeah, that's like saints rams type level passing interference Yeah Canon Stogner: Yeah, yeah, it was exactly like that. I literally said that too, Lucas. horrible no call. Horrible. but yeah, there's nothing to really take away from this game. They're obviously the two best teams in the country or the SEC at least. very big win for Georgia. You know, finally somebody that they're finally playing a real opponent on the road and they go out there and get a win and pretty much, you know, shut up all doubts that maybe they're not here or back. So They're very much here. Gunner Stoutton looked good. Defense looked very good. they run the ball hard. Running back's electric. so yeah, very big win. What'd you have? Andrew Wright: Yeah, really, really good game. Really unfortunate that kind of two of the main talking points after that was the no call in the P.I. and then the game basically ending because Dijon Lee punched a guy in the face basically. Like that was just a that was a really unfortunate way for that game to end. Maybe Georgia goes and picks up the third down anyway and it never matters. But it would have been really, really awesome to see Alabama get a stop there and Keenan Russell get the ball back down three with a chance to drop down the field and tie or take the lead. Yeah, like really, really good game. Two best teams in SEC, I think it speaks volumes to what the, now I know we dissed the AP poll already, but Alabama didn't move in the poll. They lost and stayed where they were. So think it really speaks volumes to kind of how those voters view them and view their potential the rest of the season. So yeah, that definitely feels like those two teams will play again at some point this year, whether that is in Atlanta for the conference championship or some point in the playoffs. So really looking forward to that second matchup if it happens later this year. Canon Stogner: Yeah. Hmm. I just looking at the AP poll rankings. I'm I was all over UCLA, by the way. All over UCLA. And by the way, let's kind of pivot back to South Carolina. What's the record, Andrew? What's the record? Andrew Wright: Three and three. Canon Stogner: Three and three. Okay. Who was the first game they lost to? Andrew Wright: and simply stay. Canon Stogner: Mississippi State. Mississippi State is ranked number sixteen. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: Who was her second loss to? Andrew Wright: Alabama. Canon Stogner: Alabama. At Alabama, night game, Alabama number six in the country. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: And who was the third loss to, Andrew? Andrew Wright: talking. Canon Stogner: Kentucky. And what period did they lose? Andrew Wright: Over time. Canon Stogner: Overtime. And Kentucky is now ranked number fifteen. So to be so vocal and outspoken about firing Shane Beamer. Is Unwarranted. Not fair. Not fair. Yeah, you could be disappoint. Andrew Wright: Yeah, they just lost to three really good teams. Canon Stogner: You can be disappointed how the game went, but To fire Shane Beamer, you fire a coach when they can no longer compete. Andrew Wright: Right. Canon Stogner: When you're getting blown out, like I'm not sure Arkansas's head coach makes it out of the season. Andrew Wright: Yeah, he- yeah. Canon Stogner: When you're getting blown out, that's when it's time to fire a coach. Andrew Wright: Right. Canon Stogner: And he's not getting blown out. He's taken two three possession leads against these teams that I just named out. so I mean, we're not gonna sit here as South Carolina fans and expect them to make the playoff or be surprised that they're three and three. But to call out Shane Bieber is just or you can call him out, but to say he deserves to be fired and that he sucks and all this, disgusting. Anyways. Notre Dame handled business against Stanford. Ohio State handled business against Maryland, Indiana close game and Lincoln against Nebraska. They did squeeze out a twenty to seventeen win. They were down all the way until the fourth quarter. At least or Andrew Wright: Yeah, like think 11 point game was about 10 minutes off. Canon Stogner: Yeah. Nebraska Matt Rule, which all Panthers fans know how I feel about Matt Rule. Can't get the big one done. They've lost now lost thirty one straight games against the top twenty five team. And it feels like every year they have two big ones at home against those teams. They just never get it done. And they're always close. They're always very close. Ole Miss handled business against Vanderbilt after coming off the bye last week, after the loss of Florida. Kentucky. Kentucky beat LSU in overtime. Isn't time to start panicking about LSU? Andrew Wright: You have to at least a little bit not not full-blown obviously, that's awesome guy put out on Twitter last night He kind of said like halfway joking is link if it on the hot seat and also that's ridiculous He's not in the hot seat not yet But it is I think there's got to be a little bit of panic at least with that roster that they built like we talked about before the season ever Started they kind of built their version of a super team and it has just not played out Sam Levitt is awful by the way Canon Stogner: Terrible, horrible. Andrew Wright: He's the only, Canon Stogner: Horrible. Andrew Wright: I think he's the only quarterback in the FBS with an interception in every game so far this season. He's awful. And it's just like, you're not going to without a quarterback in the SEC. So yeah, that guy has thrown a pick in every game. Obviously it's not something he's been able to fix yet halfway through the season. So yeah, because of that, just because of this, I'm pretty sure they have a really brutal schedule to finish the season too. So yeah, definitely time to panic just a little bit at least. Canon Stogner: Yeah. And this kind of goes back to Brent Stagner's voicemail before the season started about saying the Big Ten is just much better than SEC. I think now he everybody can officially hush about that. because other than Ohio State, who's the second best team? Indiana, but okay. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: I mean, you have these teams in the SEC every week is a gauntlet. You just mentioned the Texas schedule. That's tough. you know, Kentucky, nobody expected them to be this good with Will Stein. And you know, you've got two massive wins in a row. Competed against Alabama. Obviously they can do it. you know, Missouri beats Tex AM, which by the way, Te Mike Elko might be he's sitting on thumbtacks. Andrew Wright: Hey, Will, Will was all over that. That was Will's guy, the person we thought might not be on the hot seat that was. Will was all over that one. He's, Canon Stogner: He is sitting on a bed of nails Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: and they're hot nails, like bowling hot. Especially after what he said yesterday you see what he said? Andrew Wright: About the guy that does the online stuff can go be him and they were about their fan Canon Stogner: Yeah. Andrew Wright: base. Yeah Canon Stogner: But like seventy five percent of those people are the season ticket holders. Andrew Wright: Yeah, you can put up six points and then do that. Yeah, he's done. He's done. Canon Stogner: He's horrible. The last thing you do is start calling out the fans, and that's what my guy Shane Beamer has never done. Andrew Wright: You Canon Stogner: He might he'd throw out a little side comment about the fans not staying a little bit or not being into the game. But he's Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: never calling us out for calling him out. Which Andrew Wright: Right. Yeah. Canon Stogner: he deserves to. He should. another big win. UCLA undefeated, Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: beats Oregon in Oregon. At Alton Stadium. Dante Moore did not play. He was questionable going into the game. Dylan Rayola has potentially forgotten how to play football, Stoops. Is that right? Andrew Wright: What the hell appears that way? Canon Stogner: Does does he know how to play football? Andrew Wright: He played one of the worst games this decade by a quarterback. Canon Stogner: In history, his QBR was a two point four. Andrews, CJ Bailey's had every game he's played this year, and we've talked about him three times of how bad Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: he's been. He's had a higher QBR, 2.4. Andrew Wright: That's like I don't think you can probably spike the ball a hundred times and it'd be close to a 2.4 Canon Stogner: I mean to the fans that like don't Andrew Wright: my goodness. Canon Stogner: know the stats, he went six for nineteen, forty three yards, averaged two point three yards a completion. He threw Andrew Wright: Mm. Canon Stogner: two interceptions, a QBR of two point four. That's like what you and Grady Bingham were doing in intramurals. As horror. Andrew Wright: Yeah, that's tough. 2.4. Canon Stogner: And he had a fumble. And he lost a fumble. Andrew Wright: Geez, yeah. Donate more, get back soon. Canon Stogner: I mean he got benched. He got benched for Brock Thomas, who went eleven for fifteen, a hundred and fifty six yards and a touchdown. did Nico come back into the game? Andrew Wright: No, he did not. He wasn't much better though. Canon Stogner: I'm yeah, I'm sitting here looking. Ten for seventeen, a hundred and sixty two yards. He averaged nine Andrew Wright: and two pigs. Canon Stogner: of completion, two picks. His QBR was seventeen point six. Andrew Wright: So you see a 17.6 So they got to Canon Stogner: Seventeen point six. Andrew Wright: so they got to 20 even on QBR Combined between the two of them. They get the 20 even That is Canon Stogner: Yeah. Andrew Wright: horrible Canon Stogner: Let's horrible. Who's Andrew Wright: If you that, could throw the ball left handed and get higher than that. Canon Stogner: the worst South Carolina quarterback in last 10 years? 3-2-1, let's say it the same time. 3-2-1. Andrew Wright: Okay. Canon Stogner: Ryan Helensky. Let's Andrew Wright: Ron Hylowski. Canon Stogner: see what his let's see what his lowest game QBR was. And we we'll even go to Northwestern and look at it. Andrew Wright: Colin Hill gets the run for his money now, by the way. Canon Stogner: Colin Hill wasn't that bad. I mean he was awful, but lord. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: boy. Mm-hmm. Alright. dang it. I mean, he threw for twenty one touchdowns in his career and seventeen interceptions. His QBR, his average rating over the season was a hundred and eleven point four. So let's divide that by twelve. His career QBR was 9.2, and we know how hard he was to watch. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: So he was averaging a nine point two QBR a game, which back to Nico, he had a awful game. He was a 17 QBR. To say Helensky averaged that a game, awful. Dylan Reola? Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: Former five star former Nebraska starting quarterback transferred to Oregon. E like openly agrees to like being the backup quarterback and learning from Dante Moore. And you get your shot and do that. Andrew Wright: Yeah, after he lit up USC Canon Stogner: Big fall off. Andrew Wright: too. So crazy. Canon Stogner: Yeah. Yeah. Utah number twelve beat Kansas forty one twenty-four. Tennessee escaped by Arkansas twenty-four seventeen. Faison did not play. it was George McIntyre. Andrew Wright: The game was 24 to 17. Canon Stogner: Tennessee did. And they Andrew Wright: I don't know. Canon Stogner: moved up in the rankings. Andrew Wright: I had no idea Tennessee only won that game by seven points. I had no clue about that. Canon Stogner: It was seven and nothing, like early late third or something. Andrew Wright: If you would have asked me, I'd have you 42 13 and we would have moved on. Canon Stogner: And how about, you know, I've made some bad predictions this year and I've made some very good predictions. How about my Oklahoma State Cowboys? I'm all Drew Messenker. I'm all Andrew Wright: How about him man? Mesta Maker. Dog. Dog. Canon Stogner: Drew Messenaker. Remember I said it top number one QB in the Big Twelve, and he very could well, very could very well be it. Andrew Wright: You said he was going to be a better QB prospect than Arch Manning and you're all over it. Not saying you're wrong. Canon Stogner: I'm all over it. I mean, his QBR yesterday was a ninety four. Andrew Wright: Yeah, he's ballin'. Canon Stogner: I wonder what is the average D one quarterback QBR between every quarterback that plays? Weekly. Andrew Wright: 75, 70, 67, 65, Canon Stogner: Seventy five? That's hard. That's too hard. Dylan Rayola doing that? Andrew Wright: 65. Canon Stogner: I'm gonna say probably thirty. Andrew Wright: Already? Canon Stogner: Yeah. Andrew, you're bad QBs, dude. Okay. A hundred and thirty to one hundred and thirty five. So the average QBR for a quarterback is eleven point two five. Not for a quarterback, but for every D one starting quarterback over a twelve game span over all teams that play college football in D one. The average QBR rating QB rating is eleven point four. And Drew Messmaker had a really good game and had a ninety four QBR. And Dylan Rayola had a two. Andrew Wright: Who put it forward? Meh. Canon Stogner: So not a quarterback league. Andrew Wright: Mm-mm. Canon Stogner: And I was telling I think I was telling somebody this the other day. For what was once thought as a massive draft class, because you have Colin Simmons, Dylan Stewart, you have Jeremiah Smith, you have these guys, Trinidad. The quarterbacks that were once mentioned on this list with Dante Moore, Lenora Sellers, Arch Manning, Jack not Jackson Dark, John Matteir, Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: Gunnar Stockton. Gunnar Stockton might be the second best of any of those I just named. Even Julian Saiyan hasn't been great this year. Andrew Wright: Right. Canon Stogner: USC escapes by Penn State, wins 31-23. Houston beat Kans Kansas State 3516. Boise State snuck by Fresno State 3831. And then my last call out of the night. I am Mr. Call out. My last call out of the night. Andrew, remind me of Pitts, head football coach. Andrew Wright: Pat Noor Doozie. Canon Stogner: Yes. This guy went on national television last week after Andrew Wright: Thanks. Canon Stogner: beating Virginia Tech in what was a questionable field goal, which I do think he missed it after looking at some camera angles that were posted online. To go and call out the AP poll guys and you know say like they're gutless and all this for not ranking a five and team, and then you go and lose to North Carolina at home can't Andrew Wright: Yeah, can't happen, can't happen. Canon Stogner: happen. Awful look for that's like immediate karma and embarrassing for you. Like I you have to think he is embarrassed. Andrew Wright: He went on college game day yesterday morning and did that. He did the home field interview for them yesterday and basically did the same thing. Canon Stogner: And called him out. Andrew Wright: Basically, yeah, that was kind of one of the people on game day asked him like what was his message to the the voters and what were they not seeing about his team? And he basically said the same thing. And then yeah, you can beat at home by Bill Belichick. Nah, we don't. Now, to be fair, his start quarterback is hurt. He's out for the year, so they didn't have backup player. But still, you can't lose at home, North Carolina. No way. No, no excuse for that. Canon Stogner: Andrew, what sport what sport what sport are we playing? Andrew Wright: Football. Canon Stogner: What do you have to have? Andrew Wright: quarterback. Canon Stogner: Guys that can step up with injuries. Everybody has injuries. Everybody. Horrible look for him. He's my loser of the week. We're gonna start doing that. We're doing our biggest winner of the week and our biggest loser of the week. I'll say it right now. I'll I'm coming up with it on the spot. Biggest winner of the week, Shane Beamer, Lenore Sellers, South Carolina. Outside of them, Bob Chesney, UCLA's head coach. Andrew Wright: Yeah, that would be mine, be Bob Chesney. Canon Stogner: Biggest doofus loser of the week. Pitts head football coach. Andrew Wright: If I had to pick one, it'd either be Mike Elko or Archmantic. Canon Stogner: My biggest winner. Andrew Wright: if I gotta go outside of Beamer and Bob Chesney, Canon Stogner: You get Drew Messemaker? Andrew Wright: Yeah, I'll give you a Big winner this week. Canon Stogner: Also horrible loser. Not not biggest, horrible. Matt Gamble in Penn State. Andrew Wright: That season went up in flames. Canon Stogner: Yeah. Andrew Wright: I felt so good through four weeks about Penn State and Florida and they've lost their last five straight combined. Awful. Canon Stogner: I don't like I don't like mentioning his name because he's a competitor, but you d you told me last week, I don't came I don't think it was like while we were live, but you said a lot of people were calling out Josh Pate because of like things that he's like Andrew Wright: is la- LACK OF ANALYSIS, yeah. Canon Stogner: Him saying that Florida was a win away from being twenty nineteen LSU. Andrew Wright: He's getting fried, dog. Canon Stogner: There is it's gonna be very every so often that somebody touches how good that LSU team is. And Joe Burrow or Ed Orgeron should walk up to Josh Payt and sucker punch him in the nose. Sucker punch him. Cause that is the most hypocrite, like underselling how good LSU was. That was an elite Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: team. Maybe the greatest team of all time. Maybe. And you could argue that. Up with some other teams. Say Florida. man. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: All right, all right, all right. All right. That's it for our preview. Andrew, give us the results of our top five spray picks. Andrew Wright: So yeah, best week of the season so far for us on spread picks. I combined eight and two this week. So both of us just one game away from perfect weeks. Canon Stogner: Wow. Clap it up. Andrew Wright: For me hit on Missouri, UCLA, Kentucky, Wake Forest had two of those that won outright. So felt really good about those. And then the only one I left on and I was all aboard the ship. I was rowing the boat. I had now jumped overboard. I'm swimming back to shore. out on PJ Fleck. You can't go on the road and beat Michigan and go crowd surfing in the locker room. They were at home against Michigan. Sorry, they were at home against Michigan. But go crowd surfing into your locker room and then go on the road and lose to Purdue, who before last Saturday hadn't won a big team game in three years. And now they've won back to back. So good for them. But see, I whiffed on Minnesota and they can't in for you. You hit on USC who won outrides underdog. Iowa won outrides underdog. Cal at plus 10 one outrides an underdog you had Boise cover by half a point for you and Then North Dakota State was a few rolls of the ball away from winning their game. They end up losing by touchdown I was also on North Dakota State on the ESPN fantasy college ballgames. So That unfortunately stomp be a really good week eight and two for us. Very proud of that Definitely something to build on heading into next week Canon Stogner: The Slaters are getting hot. Andrew Wright: Slater she getting hot Canon Stogner: The fighting Slators are getting hot. Andrew Wright: Right time. We know how to bounce back from a bad week. We don't let a bad week define our season. We bounce back. Canon Stogner: Yeah. Hey, hey. If we win big next week it might be like twenty nineteen LSU. Andrew Wright: We're a week away from people making those comparisons. Canon Stogner: Yeah, God. Hey, before we get out of here, we're previewing next week Notre Dame finally has a tough game. What is this week seven coming up now? Or week eight? Andrew Wright: Yeah, finally. Yeah, and it's the, it'll be the most loaded weekend of the season so far. Canon Stogner: Yeah, week seven coming up. Awesome for South Carolina fans because they got a bye. We r Andrew Wright: Yep, can't lose this week. Canon Stogner: can really sit down. yeah, they're only favored by seven and a half against BYU. but luckily they are gonna play them in the practice domes or the practice facility, so Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: national champions there. but yeah, so before we close it out here, I just want to give a huge shout out to Arch Manning. A huge shout out to the people that keep listening to us and Huge shout out to Drew Messenmaker. all right, guys. Thank you for listening and we'll see you Thursday.
