- Scott Brandt: You can keep writing your notes. Okay. You'll be fine. So take this quote and really just chew on it. You don't need better tools. You need better thinking. This comes from James Clear and it's one that really, when you think about it, it is a very interesting thing in the world of leadership. A lot of business owners, they're like, I just need that next course. I just need that next system and everything will be better. So welcome to together. are stronger leadership, straight, no chasers. And really it's a symptom that holds a lot of people back because a lot of people are like, ⁓ I just need that next whatever I need that next new system. need the shiny object there when Regardless of whatever you bring on, regardless of whatever you try, if you are possessing the same mindset that got you to where you're at and you're having these issues, new systems, new, whatever's not going to help you overcome and grow because your mindset is the thermostat for everything else. So if you don't change your mindset, whatever's happening, you're going to come back to where you're at. And if you don't like this area where you're at, that's your mindset piece. And so it's one that if you're chasing and saying, ⁓ I just need this next thing. That is not what you need to do. You need to adjust this and look at this differently because the mindset that you have is what is either going to raise you up or bring you down and have you stuck. And you're going to really be pissed off because if you're stuck in the same area, you're going to try to blame other things instead of looking internally. So George, I don't know if you, if you think about that through our different conversations that we've had, ⁓ know early, early in like the move from doing double world ventures to running the other business and whatnot. There were times where we would talk about mindset and I know for where you're at now with the growth that you've had. It's very interesting to see how we're like, Hey, we just need this next, ⁓ this next thing here. And then I'm like, no, need to do some work here, but people just don't want to listen. They're like, no, it's not that it's this or this. And I'm like, no, it's an internal thing that you don't want to face that you need to rise up and say, yeah, there's something here myself that I need to adjust. And if you don't do it, you're just going to stay stuck. Big G: You know, I agree with you. mean, when we're on world ventures and doing other things, I think a lot of times people take a look at things what they can do to shorten, to be more successful in a very shorter way. So that means, and I wrote some things down and I think people try to cut corners, right? Instead of really digging into your mind, send the reading it, feeding it, they're trying to figure out ways to cut corners to buy new things. So I wrote things, everyone out here is chasing a new tool, new apps, new systems, new platforms. But here's the truth. You don't need tools. But you need better thinking. And what I mean by that, see, we're all guilty of it. Believe in the next shiny thing. It's going to fix our problems. How many times that we've done something to let's get this new app to make it better. And it could be in marketing. It could be in insurance. And it comes down to, but your thinking is off. No tool in the world will make it right. it's all up here. Just because you buy new software, yeah, if you if you have the vision, you have clarity where you're going out and this new software is going to help you get to the other side because you're already moving. That's different. But when you come to business, networking business, you always try to figure out the corners instead of, you know. going the full length of the ride and learning, people try to buy things to cut the corners and make it easy and find out they wasted more time doing that than sitting and staying focused on their path. Stay in, you know, it's not, it's not like, hey, I need to buy a new CRM. What's wrong with the one that you have, you know? is you got to stay completely focused. And I think everyone goes after that new shiny object, the new side shiny software. It's the software is going to make you millions of dollars. But you got to buy this software to make that software work properly. And it all comes down to people are trying to shortcut success and you really just need to learn how to deal with everything go forward. And a lot of people miss that opportunity. Scott Brandt: Hmm. Yeah, I think it's a, it's a very interesting thing because mindset is kind of the hot topic, but it is the item that is going to spring forward or move you forward. But a lot of people want to go outside themselves and look at other things, blame other things because it's easier to do that. Big G: Yeah. Scott Brandt: than it is to look internally and really do the necessary work that's needed. And I think when you look at that, that's kind of the fear factor for people of having to do that internal work because it's not the easiest. And then also are you potentially having to give up thoughts, beliefs that don't belong to you? and go into the unknown because you've held on to things that just don't belong to you. And so it is a very interesting piece because you'll have some people that will grab a book, read it, and then they think they know everything. And I'm like, that's not how this works. Like this is a continual work in progress that reading one book is not going to. ⁓ give you all the answers. It is something that you have to continue to work on. And the other thing is, really, it all varies because like for me right now, I think I've got five or six different books that I'm reading, but you'll have some people that are like, you should only focus on one book. You should only focus on one thing. But the, the thing that I look at this is, Books written by people are ways to speed things up. And so it's just a matter because everybody's gonna have certain things and say, is how you should do it. This is how you should do it. Ultimately, it's a matter of what are you comfortable with? Because if you rock the boat too much and you freak yourself out, then you may hold back and decide, ⁓ I'm not gonna pursue this. Big G: Yes. Scott Brandt: because you freaked yourself out. And so that's where it also comes down to knowing who you are as an individual, which is not the easiest thing. And then also that's where understanding what your values are and finding individuals that have alignment with the same values. And we talked about this in the value episode, which was the second long form. had the intro episode. And then the values was either you looking at is the episode two or episode three, but it's finding people that have the same values, had that alignment, but it should not be an echo chamber. It shouldn't be the yes, man. Yes, woman. It needs to be people that yes, have the same values because that's going to drive, but you want to be open to the difference of opinions, different of perspectives. because if you get stuck in an echo chamber, that does you no good. So you want people that are going to push you and have you really question and really look and ask. And then it comes down to, is the advice that that person's giving you, does that truly fit what you're needing right now? Or when you look at it, you're like, this just doesn't have, this doesn't hit, this doesn't sit here. So it may not be that advice that you need. And so that's where being in the moment being presence, but also building differently. Like we've talked about multiple different ways, really being open and being mindful of that. But that also can be very scary because a lot of us want validation. And if you're seeking validation, that's not going to do anything. That's not going to be good for you because then you potentially get stuck because. You're hearing what you want to hear, but is that truly what you need? Big G: a great point. mean seriously, I was just listening to Gary Vee and the one thing he was talking about is that you got to fall in love with yourself again. And so what that means is that you have to, man the conversation that he talked about, was in front of the audience and this lady spoke and talked about you know doing a post and only so many people like it, the whole works. And the one thing he did break it down is that everyone's different. Yes, there's people that are more handsome, beautiful. There's people that are faster. There's more people that was just breaking down the whole crowd. I said, at the end of the day, it just comes you. You gotta re-love yourself again. You gotta not listen to critics. You have to really just stick to who you are and your tribe. Because if you don't, it's to like echo. Everyone's going to sound the same. Echo chamber. And I think a lot of times people don't realize in doing that, and especially entrepreneurs, CEOs, business owners, whatever you want to call yourself. is because you're doing everything you possibly can. You're trying to buy all the new shiny things. It's not helping itself. It starts with you. It starts to ground zero and that happens to be you. And I think a lot of times, even myself, ⁓ you lose that and you're trying to shortcut everything. And, know, for what you said, and one thing I'm amazed, I don't know how you read so many books because I can only focus on one and that is pure talent because I can't read five different books and then break it down but the one thing that I do have to agree is that when you are reading and then and things are you're trying to solve issues that book is just a way to jump start you is to work with you what you are who you are what your business is. It's not going to solve all your problems. So if you read a book and it educates you and helps you get to the next level, you know, you have to keep educating yourself because that all is is that just like us, everything we talk about, we have gone through. And a lot of times people forget, forget where they come from. Scott Brandt: Hmm. Big G: And it's, I mean, we've been through it, buying software, we've been through it all. But again, you have the tools and it's right in front of you. You gotta work what you have to make it work and push through because it's not the software, it's not. your website, it's not this, it's you. And a lot of times people have to retract themselves, look in the mirror and say, it's time to rebuild me. Scott Brandt: Hmm. Hmm. Yeah. Hit that like button if you're getting value from the video right now. If you're looking for these types of videos, hit that subscribe button. And so really right now, when you look at yourself as a listener, what is the thing that you're kind of second guessing yourself on and really saying, ⁓ I need to take this. But it comes down to how resourceful are you as an individual? Because right now you probably have the tools that you need to go to that next level, but you got to trust yourself. And so you really need to ask and do a deep reflection and say, do I have everything that I need right now to go to that next level? Or is it truly, I do need that next course or whatever it is to get to that next level. It is a true introspection that you have to ask yourself and you have to be honest with yourself. So it's a very interesting thing because I don't know if we've ever talked about Jim Quick. Jim Quick is a brain coach. I think when he was like six or seven, he had a teacher that pointed to him and said, that's the boy with the broken brain. And so he actually teaches people how to harness their brain and really become unlimited. And so... in his book, Limitless, he's got an exercise in there. So I've had this book for a while. I haven't read through the whole thing. And then I sat through a master class and he was talking about reading. And so in this book, he has a chapter on to increase your reading speed. And so he highlighted that I think John F. Kennedy had a reading speed of between 500 and 1200 words per minute. And so the interesting thing that he had highlighted was that the rap of being a speed reader, ⁓ really the myth was, ⁓ it's not good for you. And also the fact that you can't recall anything. And so he said, what happens is people that are slow readers used to spread that, that speed reading is no good. And so he said, what reading does, it actually makes you tap into certain parts of your brain and have laser like focus while you're doing that activity. And so it is a very interesting thing because he's had students that will read a book a week. And so he's like, think about that by doing that, you collapse your time. And by being a speed reader, you actually free up about two hours ⁓ a day. by doing that. And so it is a very interesting thing. It's something that I'm working on right now in regards to increasing that. And so it's a unique thing because when you think about the stuff that you've heard and people have told you, and then you started looking at different things, you're like, yeah, that's, I really held myself back because of somebody else's myths or not believing in themselves. And so they're passing on misinformation. And so it is a very interesting thing when you do the deep dive and you're like, no, I really want to do this. And you start looking, you start seeing that people that have had results and you're like, okay, so I can be done. It's a good thing. And it's just adjusting whatever that belief is. And so that goes back to your mind being a very powerful tool. the funny thing on that is Pat Flynn wrote a called lean learning. And he said, the issue that we run into today is that there's so much information at our fingertips that it actually does more damage to us. And so that's where you really have to fine tune and really draw the boundaries of what you're trying to accomplish and then find those resources that will align with whatever you're trying to accomplish to move forward. Said a lot of people are in the point where it's, ⁓ I just need this information. And he's like, that's doing more harm to you than good. And you want to really focus on what is that information that you're looking to gather? And it does it align with what you're trying to accomplish? Because if you really think about it, we do have a ton of information at our fingertips and it can actually do more harm than good for us because of how much is out there. And then the overwhelm that you might give yourself because of just, need that next thing. I need that next thing. I need that next thing. But it goes back to, you taking action? Are you going out there finding that one or two bits of information nuggets that you need and then taking action upon it to move forward? Big G: You know, I have a challenge for listeners. And this is the challenge. So here's the question I have for everyone. Are you improving your own strategy or are just collecting more stuff? And that stuff is more product, more, you know, a better CRM, software, whatever, right? Are you developing your thinking? Scott Brandt: Hmm. Big G: or you're just looking for shortcuts. Right? Because, and this is what I put, because better thinking creates vision. And also vision, but drives everything forward. So, Scott, you and I talked about one thing you brought up when we first did our episode is the bicycle wheel. And I bring this up in several in our... Episodes that a bicycle will this is who we are If you look if you focus on a bicycle and close your eyes and you take a look You have an axle in the middle and in that axle is connected to spokes Every spoke is a part of your business when you're when and when you take it to a coach or a Bike specialist let's just say to straighten up that wheel. That's the same thing. It's the same concept as Getting a coach your tribe Your clarity your focus. It keeps going every spoke lines up everything that we do in business and if one spoke Couple spokes is out of line. What's the will do? It wobbles. That's how people look at, you know, I take a look and that's what people look at their business, is that you have to look at everything that you have in your business. And you have to look at every structure that you're putting in place. Are you over buying stuff that you're just wasting money on that you don't need? Are you going back to the basics to create? So these are the challenges you have to realize what you're doing in business. So when you look at your actual actual business right now, Scott and I, and every spoke has a meeting, every spoke has something that is a part of your business. You got to get in line because if not, you're to have to speak wobbles going down the hill and it's gonna be ugly scene for you and I take a look at what we're doing and you got to take action you know shift the focus as I said here listen to Scott tools are amplified what you already have and it's there to use and it's right in front of you I think a lot of people miss that. you know, stay in focus ⁓ and have those challenges. Challenge yourself. You know, when you like speed read, I remember years ago seeing that on TV, speed reading, you see guys doing this and you know, how does this, you know, how does people retain? It's doing this. I mean, there's probably guys who can retain it like you, not me, I have to read. Scott Brandt: Hmm. Big G: basic I have to do audio but are you retained are you treating your business that way your speed rating are missing things that you're not catching you got people are good at it and you got people like myself that I'm just trying to get to the next page and you're missing that you you're missing that opportunity It's like sitting down with a millionaire or billionaire and you're sitting with you. If you're not listening and you're thinking about what you can do and what you can have and this and that, you're missing it. Y'all were thinking. Scott Brandt: Hmm. Yeah, no, it's, um, it's a very interesting thing because like I tell people really the words that you use, the verbatim that you use can mean different things. People don't realize that. So there's a quote out there. I don't remember who said it, but it's the difference here. So you can either say, I'm a businessman or I'm a businessman. Big G: Yes. Scott Brandt: And think about just that second one where it had that the, positive after business, man. So the thing is, is I'm not just a businessman. I'm a businessman. And it comes down to that branding piece of. This is just an extension of who I am that I run businesses that I do this. And so. Big G: Yes. Scott Brandt: It's a very interesting thing because when we talk about you have to have better thinking think about people like real estate agents. I'd like they're the best example here where they're like I just moved to a new firm six months later from when I was at the old one and the issue is a lot of more like oh if I switch or if I go over here it's gonna be better. but you have to remember that you're centered to everything. And so what was over here is going to follow you to this next location. And you know what that is? It's your damn thoughts. It's your thinking. And if you don't work on that, that shit goes from one place to another. And then you're like, no, it's gonna be different because I've changed my scenery. No, you change your scenery, but the shit that is driving everything is still with you in this new scenery piece. So you switching and jumping and thinking, oh, it's going to be better. Is it truly going to be better? Because if your thoughts and the way you think and the beliefs that you have, if they have not adjusted, it's not going to be different over here. It's gonna be the same, but you're like, I'll just slap, I'll just slap this here and we'll switch and it's gonna be different. It's like, no, it's not gonna be different because you are the center point to everything. And so if you are that gullible and thinking, oh, changing this is gonna be great, then you're gonna have a very hard time in life because everything's gonna come down to if I just switch this, if I just change this. Instead of no, the person looking at me in the mirror is the center aspect to this whole equation that has to be fixed. It's who I'm looking at. And that's scary for people because it means that they have to confront things that maybe they don't want to. And they think it's going to be easier with changing the scenery and not changing the person looking back at them. Big G: say it's never green on the other side right you know there's always problems following the majority like you talk about you got a look at a mirror it's you you know when you take a look at business and structure okay the commission can be more on this neck great but if you're not making it over here what do you think how you're gonna make it over here even if the credit commission structure is different you know and I think a lot of times people don't listen to themselves tonight. I really say this night, I want you guys to stop what you're doing and listen, what is working for you right now? What is really clicking in? Simplify your process before adding anything new. So and that's what was talking about when you're you're moving forward and things are clicking and you have to get something to make it better or whatever. That's a different story because you're in the process of success. Right. You know, ask yourself, does these tools serve my vision or do I serve the tools? Right. And we're not talking wrenches and ratchet sets. We're talking tools like finding software, new CRM. Well, I need to change my website or whatever. When your focus is on that stuff, again, you're short cutting everything you're working for because you're not focusing direct on what you had and how you started the business. Get to that point so you can do those changes, but the business stays focused. Spend more time thinking, less time chasing. Scott Brandt: Hmm. Big G: You know, it's a people chase. Like I said, when we started this podcast, people chase for the shortcuts to get success. Right. Yeah, I'm going to I'm going to go play this lot of ticket. You know, it's a billion dollars. OK, great. If you win, that's awesome. You get to bless a lot of people. See, it's. It's not about always about the money, Scott. It's about how you can help people grow and about, you know, teaching others in your industry how you got there. Because everyone we know and we follow always had a successful business and what they do on stage, on podcasts and books, they share how they got there. Scott Brandt: Hmm. Big G: You don't hear him talking about, I got this new software and it won me millions of dollars. It's it's the person there and the people you surround yourself with. You know, you got to listen. Tools come and go. AI software automation, it changes every year. This is like computers. You know, you think you got the top of the line computer, six months later, your computer's like in mound the bottom four. Stick what you know and take action what you have. And I think a lot of times people don't go that way. we're always learning for the shortcut. Remember, we talked about this last night. know, everyone's fast food, fast this, fast that. Scott Brandt: Hmm. Yeah. Big G: You know, and I heard a report today. Now I know it has anything to with it. Do you know by going to Uber Eats and all the companies, I don't mean to say Uber Eats, all the food companies that deliver, it's actually hurting the restaurant industry. And how many times we order food to get picked up and delivered to our house, how many times is it wrong? Scott Brandt: Hmm. Big G: But we keep doing it. We used to go out to the movie theaters and have fun. Now we can do different things, right? And stay home and rent the movie. We're changing the industry because we want it right away. I challenge people to go out, go on a date, go out to dinner and meet people because you never know who you meet that night. And it's so weird hearing about things like this since we got into the podcast business and really list tuning in basically things click. We always want instant response. You know, I'm not feeling good. That's all different ballgame. We want to do what's his order, you know, delivery. Get up and go do something. I mean, seriously, we get lazy and we want the shortcut. So. Scott Brandt: Yeah. Well, I think it's, uh, it's interesting because there's a, there's another quote that came to mind and I'm probably gonna butcher just because can't exactly remember. Um, but it's pertinent. It's a work harder on yourself than that of what you work hard on your business. And it's a very interesting thing because you start thinking about that, you're like, well, if I don't give time and focus to my business, how is it going to succeed? Well, you're center and you're the one running the business. So if you're not working on yourself, you are the anchor point for your business. And so it goes to being the thermostat that wherever you're at with your thoughts, your beliefs, that is where everything is going to come and settle. It's that baseline. You're the baseline. So if you're not working to enhance and improve yourself, everything is going to fall to that level of where you're at. And so that's why you want to work on yourself because that is going to dictate what happens. It's you. And so this goes to who you have part of your tribe, because those are who you're going to lean on. like George has highlighted that If you surround yourself with five dummies, the sixth person is you as being that dummy. And so that is one that you have to really be mindful of. And this goes hand in hand with the being a student, ⁓ in regards to this function here. So that would be a video that I would highlight going back and looking at, watching, listening, seeing what you can pick up from there. because this is all hand in hand in it. And so like we say, if you're calling yourself a leader and you say, Hey, I want the best for individuals. Share this with somebody that if you know they're struggling with, I just need that next course, or I just need that next motivational video. They need their hopium. No, like knock that shit off, share this with them and say, You have what you need. You just have to be resourceful. Tap into it. And if it comes down that they're struggling because we are social creatures, get them in contact with somebody yourself, somebody to walk with them, to be that mentor to or coach whatever they need. But it goes back that as a true leader, you share information to help others out to get to that next level. And so if you call yourself a true leader. share this with somebody. And then if you're looking for these types of videos, hit the subscribe button. If there was something that really resonated with you or pissed you off and you're mad at us and you're like, this is stupid. Leave a comment. So if there's something that really struck a nerve with you, share that. We'd love to see that. Love to hear what that is. Doesn't matter if it's good, bad, indifferent, whatever, but that's where we never know. There might be somebody else struggling with it too. It's senior comment and how you're feeling may help them out. It may share something that they need. So this goes back to as the community builds out, we work together to help each other. Get to that next level. Get to that next step. The next puzzle piece, whatever it is. So we appreciate everybody being part of this journey, letting us be part of this journey. Other than that, we'll catch you on the next episode. Have a great night.
