2:30
Speaker 4: this morning though, as we say goodbye to one of
2:32
Speaker 4: her own here. When you're in this crazy business that
2:35
Speaker 4: I've been a part of for over thirty six years.
2:37
Speaker 3: You get to know people and you get to love them.
2:39
Speaker 4: You want to kill them at times, but you've become
2:42
Speaker 4: much like your workplace. You become like a family. But
2:45
Speaker 4: in a world of broadcasting, it's a crazy, dysfunctional, stressed
2:48
Speaker 4: out family. And this morning we're going to say goodbye
2:51
Speaker 4: to one of those is going to be leaving us, Carrie,
2:53
Speaker 4: who Deesect, co anchor of the morning News with Chris Lawrence.
2:57
Speaker 4: She just rapped up her final morning newscast with Chris,
3:01
Speaker 4: and she's got a little bit of work to do
3:03
Speaker 4: around the office before we confiscate your key card to
3:07
Speaker 4: get in the building.
3:07
Speaker 5: You know that, right, Yeah, I won't be allowed back
3:09
Speaker 5: up to it was gonna say.
3:10
Speaker 4: Jenkins is not going to let you. He's got assignments
3:13
Speaker 4: for you. But you got a couple more hours here, right.
3:15
Speaker 5: But yeah, we'll still do about maybe two more stories.
3:18
Speaker 3: At this point.
3:18
Speaker 4: What are you going to do just to go on
3:20
Speaker 4: the website and say some stuff happened and then leave.
3:22
Speaker 3: Ex So, this guy did this, this guy did that.
3:25
Speaker 4: And I'm gone carry It's been kind of a wild
3:28
Speaker 4: ride for you because you joined this crazy company twice.
3:31
Speaker 3: Tell us how you got here the first time?
3:33
Speaker 6: Sure, So I started here in February of twenty fifteen,
3:38
Speaker 6: nine years ago, already crazy to think about. But I
3:41
Speaker 6: was just twenty three years old, and I had been
3:44
Speaker 6: working in Philadelphia. I had graduated college, and I was
3:47
Speaker 6: a big station KYW news radio there and I was
3:50
Speaker 6: a desk assistant, just answering phone calls. And I wanted
3:53
Speaker 6: more than anything, just to get out in the field
3:56
Speaker 6: and to tell stories. But when you grow up, you're
3:59
Speaker 6: a big more mart I grew up right outside Philadelphia
4:01
Speaker 6: and New York. You can't just become a reporter in
4:03
Speaker 6: a top you know, ten media market. And so people
4:07
Speaker 6: were telling me, well, you have two options. You can
4:09
Speaker 6: stick it out here and see if you've become a
4:11
Speaker 6: reporter within the next ten years or so. And I thought, well,
4:14
Speaker 6: I don't want to do that, or you can move
4:16
Speaker 6: to a small city. And so I started putting out
4:18
Speaker 6: resumes and Charleston, West Virginia was interested in Jeff and Hoppy.
4:23
Speaker 6: They reached out to me and they said, hey, you know,
4:25
Speaker 6: we know you're you knew it and you're new at
4:27
Speaker 6: all this, but we want.
4:28
Speaker 5: To give you a shot.
4:29
Speaker 6: And I thought, wow, somebody likes my work. And I've
4:32
Speaker 6: I've never been on the air before. I've just kind
4:34
Speaker 6: of reported stories in college and stuff.
4:36
Speaker 5: And so I came down here and.
4:38
Speaker 6: Moved two blocks from the station, and Jeff hired me
4:42
Speaker 6: on the spot and said, yeah, he put me on
4:44
Speaker 6: the air the second day I was here, and I
4:47
Speaker 6: was scared, like I couldn't even I was so nervous.
4:51
Speaker 5: I was shaking, and now.
4:52
Speaker 6: It's just so natural to have a microphone in front
4:54
Speaker 6: of my face. But then I had You're right, I left.
4:58
Speaker 6: I was here for three years, and then I just
5:01
Speaker 6: had this big market bug itch I was. I wanted
5:04
Speaker 6: to get to some place where I could really hone
5:06
Speaker 6: my skills, and I really did that here in West Virginia.
5:09
Speaker 6: But I thought, this is a dream of mine. I
5:11
Speaker 6: want to go someplace big. And I knew that maybe
5:14
Speaker 6: wasn't New York or Philadelphia to go back home, but
5:16
Speaker 6: somewhere in the country. I was willing to just sink
5:19
Speaker 6: my teeth into local news and do cover even bigger
5:22
Speaker 6: stories with you know, a bigger audience. And so I
5:26
Speaker 6: got a job off ro oute in San Francisco, and
5:28
Speaker 6: so I moved out there. I was a reporter and
5:30
Speaker 6: anchor for KCBS Radio.
5:31
Speaker 4: And for those who don't know that, that's that's as
5:34
Speaker 4: good as it gets out there.
5:35
Speaker 6: Yeah, it's the West Coast affiliate of well it was
5:37
Speaker 6: CBS Radio at the time. Well they were enter Common Odyssey.
5:40
Speaker 6: They changed a couple of times, but yeah, that was
5:42
Speaker 6: that was great, and it was such a different lifestyle
5:45
Speaker 6: out there. I got to see and do so many things.
5:47
Speaker 6: I was there during COVID, I was there during all
5:49
Speaker 6: those big protests that were happening. It was just a
5:51
Speaker 6: crazy time to be there. But I was on under
5:55
Speaker 6: a three year contract and I thought, well, I could
5:56
Speaker 6: stay here or move on, and so I was kind
5:59
Speaker 6: of a applying to other jobs at the time, and
6:02
Speaker 6: I got a call from Chris and everybody back here
6:06
Speaker 6: saying hey, uh SHAWNA. Johnson, who was the previous morning
6:08
Speaker 6: anchor here with Chris, had been leaving, and they thought, well,
6:11
Speaker 6: let's see if we can call Carrie and get her back.
6:14
Speaker 6: And when Chris called, I thought, well, I don't know
6:16
Speaker 6: if I'm going to come back to West Virginia. It
6:18
Speaker 6: was really a stepping stone. Nothing against Charleston, West Virginia.
6:21
Speaker 6: I loved everybody here and then covering news here, but
6:24
Speaker 6: I couldn't see myself coming back. I wanted to move
6:27
Speaker 6: to New York Philadelphia and didn't have any other job offers.
6:31
Speaker 6: Nothing else was panning out, and I thought why not, why.
6:33
Speaker 7: Not come back?
6:34
Speaker 6: And it felt like home. It is a second home.
6:36
Speaker 6: I always call it my home away from home. And
6:39
Speaker 6: I came back, and it's funny because when you leave
6:42
Speaker 6: a job and then you come back, not many people
6:44
Speaker 6: do that. People were hugging me and like saying welcome home,
6:48
Speaker 6: and you just you don't get that on your first
6:49
Speaker 6: day of work normally at a new job. And so yeah,
6:52
Speaker 6: I came back in twenty twenty one. So I've been
6:54
Speaker 6: here now for three years. So I've been here six
6:56
Speaker 6: years total.
6:57
Speaker 4: Okay, and again we're talking with carry who to sec
6:59
Speaker 4: who's going to be leaving this today is her final day.
7:01
Speaker 4: So I guess the number one question and I did
7:03
Speaker 4: morning radio for twenty years, the number one question you
7:06
Speaker 4: get is what time do you get up in the morning.
7:09
Speaker 4: My I was always more interested though in people would
7:12
Speaker 4: ask me what time you go to bed at night,
7:14
Speaker 4: and I always just said, what you don't really set
7:16
Speaker 4: a time, It just kind of happens. Yeah, but getting
7:19
Speaker 4: up and going to bed, what time is that?
7:20
Speaker 6: So I get up around three am. Depends sometimes what's
7:25
Speaker 6: happening if I need to get in a little earlier,
7:27
Speaker 6: but it's typically three am. I really start writing the
7:30
Speaker 6: morning news at around three forty five four AM, but
7:34
Speaker 6: typically go to bed around I start.
7:36
Speaker 5: Winding down for the night.
7:37
Speaker 6: I guess you can say that at around seven seven thirty,
7:41
Speaker 6: but I don't really close my eyes until probably eight thirty.
7:44
Speaker 4: Real estate probably a foreign concept of so many people
7:46
Speaker 4: out there, but for people that do morning radio staying
7:49
Speaker 4: up past nine o'clock, it's also a foreign concept as well.
7:52
Speaker 5: Right, Yeah, And.
7:53
Speaker 6: Then a lot of times, like during the holidays, Chris
7:55
Speaker 6: and I would host the Charleston Christmas Parade, or we
7:57
Speaker 6: have the election where we have to do the morning
7:59
Speaker 6: news and and come back in at night, and that's
8:01
Speaker 6: always a juggle.
8:02
Speaker 4: And many times when we talked about this, you you well,
8:05
Speaker 4: you and Chris don't leave. You just stay here, yeah,
8:07
Speaker 4: for the election, right, for the election.
8:09
Speaker 3: So you're going to be moving on from us, but
8:10
Speaker 3: you're staying around at the air.
8:11
Speaker 6: I am, yes, And so I haven't put this post
8:14
Speaker 6: out yet, but I will, but I'm going to announce
8:16
Speaker 6: it now that I am staying in Charleston. I'm going
8:19
Speaker 6: to go work for the State Treasurer's office and I'm
8:22
Speaker 6: going to be the assistant director of communications there for
8:24
Speaker 6: Riley Moore.
8:25
Speaker 4: That will be awesome. Hey, look, some of your friends
8:27
Speaker 4: have come in. Uh, We've got a cast of thousands
8:32
Speaker 4: that are coming into the studio here because they wanted to.
8:36
Speaker 3: They wanted they want to tell you goodbye.
8:38
Speaker 4: Uh So we got Fred, we got Murph, we got sales, weasels,
8:42
Speaker 4: we got.
8:43
Speaker 5: I promised myself I wouldn't cry again.
8:45
Speaker 3: We got Marilyn mccauloff. Who's the next guest here.
8:49
Speaker 5: That's why she's here.
8:50
Speaker 3: Hey, Merrily, you want a job. I know there's one open.
8:55
Speaker 3: I'm just it's all on that.
8:56
Speaker 4: And let me start with Joe Parson. Joe, you would
8:58
Speaker 4: you like to say something here? On me make sure
9:00
Speaker 4: his microphone's on there. I did my part.
9:02
Speaker 3: Go ahead.
9:03
Speaker 8: You're not allowed to leave.
9:05
Speaker 6: Everyone has been so sad and bitter around here. Let
9:08
Speaker 6: me tell you, but I understand why I'm not.
9:12
Speaker 3: I'm sad because you're leaving, but I'm not sad for you.
9:16
Speaker 8: I wish you the best of luck.
9:17
Speaker 5: Thank you, Joe.
9:18
Speaker 4: All right, Fred, you can go back to sleep in
9:22
Speaker 4: ten minutes.
9:24
Speaker 5: Made me cry on Friday, made her cry on.
9:26
Speaker 3: Don't do it today all over the equipment.
9:28
Speaker 8: Almost made her cry this morning.
9:29
Speaker 9: All right, I have.
9:30
Speaker 5: Been crying like a baby.
9:32
Speaker 8: As Joe said, You're going to be missed, there's no question.
9:34
Speaker 8: But the very best to you. Okay, and you're not leaving.
9:37
Speaker 10: Town, no, and knowing the way politics are, you'll be
9:40
Speaker 10: backing for you anyway.
9:42
Speaker 3: And that's how he made you cry. Okay, that's how
9:44
Speaker 3: the story is.
9:45
Speaker 4: Coop, let me bring you up here. I'm gonna save
9:46
Speaker 4: you for last.
9:47
Speaker 11: But Coop, well, I was over the moon glad when
9:51
Speaker 11: Kerry came back here a couple of years ago, the
9:54
Speaker 11: consummate professional. And I know you have news in your blood,
9:56
Speaker 11: but I also know that there's other things in life
9:58
Speaker 11: and that you need to to take care of Carrie,
10:01
Speaker 11: and I know that you're gonna do great things regardless
10:04
Speaker 11: of what path it is that you take. So congratulations
10:06
Speaker 11: and we're gonna miss you, but good luck you.
10:09
Speaker 4: Maybe Jenny and Steve let me get did see Steve?
10:14
Speaker 3: See Steve?
10:15
Speaker 4: Come in, Steve Bishop, Yeah, you guys come up here.
10:19
Speaker 12: Carrie's been doing our news for us for since she's
10:21
Speaker 12: been back, and uh, we don't get to see her
10:24
Speaker 12: a lot, but we get to hear her a lot.
10:27
Speaker 12: And uh again, we're just we're glad you came back,
10:30
Speaker 12: and we're sad to see you, Lee, but we know
10:31
Speaker 12: we're going to see you again.
10:32
Speaker 10: And I did wonder out loud this morning. If you
10:35
Speaker 10: would really matter if I came over and said I'm
10:37
Speaker 10: going to miss you, of.
10:38
Speaker 5: Course it does.
10:39
Speaker 10: Okay, so you are right. I predicted you wouldn't. So anyway,
10:44
Speaker 10: best of luck to you. We are going to miss you.
10:46
Speaker 4: I'm gonna I'm gonna bring in Steve Animal here for
10:48
Speaker 4: a moment.
10:49
Speaker 3: Hit the delay, make the get the delay ready, all right, and.
10:53
Speaker 13: I'm going to behave I'm going to miss our passings
10:56
Speaker 13: as you head for coffee like every thirty minutes, and
10:59
Speaker 13: we don't to each other. It's just a nod.
11:03
Speaker 6: That's what a lot of morning radio people just like,
11:05
Speaker 6: don't talk to me until it's like, do.
11:08
Speaker 13: I really have to say anything to this person? Grunting?
11:13
Speaker 13: So good luck, have fun, Thank you so much, and
11:16
Speaker 13: if you need us, call away and I'll get that
11:18
Speaker 13: twenty bucks.
11:19
Speaker 3: Back to your cat.
11:22
Speaker 4: Cat Skelled is one of the newest members of our
11:23
Speaker 4: of our team here, and I know you've been kind
11:25
Speaker 4: of a mentor to Cat, So go.
11:27
Speaker 5: Ahead, cap the mic. I have to luner the mic.
11:31
Speaker 3: Of course you can't say that.
11:33
Speaker 5: All too.
11:36
Speaker 2: Well.
11:36
Speaker 14: You know, it's just been really great working with you
11:38
Speaker 14: these pasts. I've been here for like a year and
11:40
Speaker 14: a half or so, and you know, you've really helped
11:43
Speaker 14: me so much just uh, you know, construct the newscasts
11:47
Speaker 14: and all that. So I'm gonna I really took your
11:51
Speaker 14: you know, mentorship to heart and yeah, thank you so much.
11:55
Speaker 3: All right, Uh, Chris, you get to go last.
11:59
Speaker 4: Mannybody else wants to say anything, It's fine, but I'm
12:01
Speaker 4: trying to get I do it.
12:03
Speaker 3: You're out the door at nine twenty because I have
12:04
Speaker 3: another guess.
12:05
Speaker 15: So sorry, but but Chris, I have to raise the
12:09
Speaker 15: mic back up after cat there. I've dreaded this moment
12:15
Speaker 15: for a long time. I'm hoping it would never come.
12:18
Speaker 15: I was hoping that you just I was hoping that
12:21
Speaker 15: I would just retire and uh and you would take
12:23
Speaker 15: my job. That's what I was That's the way I
12:25
Speaker 15: envisioned it exactly. Yes, and there if you if you
12:29
Speaker 15: look at my Facebook, there is video of Carrie running
12:31
Speaker 15: a turkey call. I didn't teach her how to use
12:33
Speaker 15: how to do that.
12:33
Speaker 3: One of the most iconic moments in the history of reading.
12:36
Speaker 15: Very much, so very and also a few months ago,
12:38
Speaker 15: I took you to the shooting range.
12:40
Speaker 3: I taught you how to shoot so I never shot
12:43
Speaker 3: a gun.
12:44
Speaker 5: This New Jersey girl doesn't do it.
12:45
Speaker 3: And you're from Jersey, right, you shot again, and I
12:48
Speaker 3: would only.
12:48
Speaker 5: Do it for the first time with Chris Lawrence.
12:50
Speaker 8: Yeah.
12:50
Speaker 15: So one Sunday afternoon we went out to the shooting
12:53
Speaker 15: range and uh, and I let her shoot the whole
12:55
Speaker 15: arsenal that I had ammunition for that day. So uh,
12:59
Speaker 15: and she she did like the AR fifteen. She said
13:01
Speaker 15: that it was a lot.
13:03
Speaker 3: She shot it.
13:03
Speaker 15: She went, Wow, that thing is powerful, and then she
13:05
Speaker 15: kept shooting it. So Chase Crisp back to his car. Yeah,
13:11
Speaker 15: well there's still bullet holes in the door. So so,
13:13
Speaker 15: but I when when when Shauna left? You're the third
13:18
Speaker 15: person I've run off from this job. When when Shawna left?
13:22
Speaker 15: We were talking about who who could we get to
13:24
Speaker 15: do this? And I told at the time our gmdal
13:28
Speaker 15: Miller was talking to me about it, and I said,
13:30
Speaker 15: if I could make wave a magic wand I would
13:33
Speaker 15: want to go get Carrie and bring her back.
13:35
Speaker 3: But I don't know.
13:36
Speaker 15: If she'll leave San Francisco. And Dale, who was so eloquent,
13:39
Speaker 15: said call her up, make her calm. So I called
13:44
Speaker 15: you from my car. I was in my car sitting
13:47
Speaker 15: in the garage, and you were getting ready because you
13:49
Speaker 15: were in California.
13:50
Speaker 5: I was working from home.
13:51
Speaker 15: It was afternoon, and I and it was in the afternoon.
13:54
Speaker 15: I had just gotten home. I sat in my garage
13:56
Speaker 15: and she answered, and I said, before you say no,
14:01
Speaker 15: hear me out, which, oddly enough, is the way that
14:04
Speaker 15: Chris proposed to his wife.
14:05
Speaker 16: Yeah, she still hasn't said yet.
14:10
Speaker 3: I'm on. Yes, I'm on a trial basis with her.
14:12
Speaker 15: But but yeah, and uh, And I told you, you know,
14:15
Speaker 15: i'd love to have you come back. And you were
14:17
Speaker 15: in a position then where your contract was coming up
14:19
Speaker 15: and you were wanting to get back to an Eastern
14:21
Speaker 15: time zone to be closer to your family, and and
14:26
Speaker 15: I remember you saying, well, I can't come for a month.
14:29
Speaker 15: And I was like, we'll wait.
14:31
Speaker 5: It was like or something, Yeah exactly.
14:34
Speaker 15: I was like, don't worry, we'll wait. And we did.
14:36
Speaker 15: And it was the it was the best decision we made.
14:38
Speaker 15: And we're so happy to get you back. But sometimes
14:42
Speaker 15: things change. And and as much as I hate to
14:44
Speaker 15: see you go, I know that the Treasurer's office is
14:46
Speaker 15: gonna going to get a good one and they're going
14:49
Speaker 15: to be very fortunate. So, uh, there's no crime in
14:53
Speaker 15: the newsroom, by the way.
14:54
Speaker 4: Yeah, well, carry we wanted to assemble people. I'm gonna
14:58
Speaker 4: give you like the last thirty seconds or so, so
15:00
Speaker 4: whatever you want to say to not only this munch
15:03
Speaker 4: but also the listeners as well, So go ahead.
15:05
Speaker 6: Well, my voice cracked on that nine OZHO three newscast
15:07
Speaker 6: I did, and they said it's going to crack again,
15:09
Speaker 6: because this was my first radio job, and I was
15:17
Speaker 6: so nervous to say, you're listening to five eight WCCHS
15:20
Speaker 6: the voice of Charleston. And I said it with such
15:24
Speaker 6: power and conviction just now. And I just can't believe
15:28
Speaker 6: how far I've came, how many people I've met, and
15:30
Speaker 6: how many people have supported me in this career. And
15:33
Speaker 6: somebody said, congratulations on your broadcasting career, and I just
15:37
Speaker 6: didn't think that it was ever going to end.
15:40
Speaker 5: But I think this is the best thing for me.
15:43
Speaker 6: And I just want to say thank you to everyone
15:45
Speaker 6: out there who's listening, who's trusted me, who's wanted to
15:49
Speaker 6: even come up and talk to me about their lives
15:52
Speaker 6: and what's going on in West Virginia and this Charleston
15:54
Speaker 6: area and everybody here that I've met along the way
15:58
Speaker 6: that's not only been a colleague, coworker, but also a
16:01
Speaker 6: friend to you. All are my second family and that's
16:05
Speaker 6: why I came home. So thank you so much.
16:12
Speaker 3: Kerry who is sick. Ladies and gentlemen.
16:13
Speaker 4: Now Jenkins is over here going the pointing at his watch,

Speaker 4: get back in there.
16:19
Speaker 3: Hey, thanks everybody, Thanks everybody for coming it.
16:22
Speaker 8: Thank you.
16:23
Speaker 4: We are, you know, like I said, a dysfunctional family
16:25
Speaker 4: up here, but my god, it's our family.
16:27
Speaker 3: So Carrie hoo to sick.
16:29
Speaker 4: We wish you the best. Let me read a couple
16:30

Speaker 4: I am a daily listener. I really will miss Carry.

Speaker 4: She does a great job and the teamwork with.
16:40
Speaker 3: Chris is great.
16:43
Speaker 4: Text says, wow, that was a great interview, great radio
16:46
Speaker 4: and all the best to Carry.
16:47
Speaker 3: She's been the best, says the texture.
16:49
Speaker 4: So on that note, that's it, all right, all right,

19:10
Speaker 4: How are you doing WWTV thirteen.
19:12
Speaker 9: Oh so glad to be here. And one of the
19:15
Speaker 9: gentlemen in the room said, top that tough, the top Carrie.
19:19
Speaker 9: I love Carrie, happy for sad to see her go.
19:23
Speaker 9: But I know she's going to do big things. But
19:25
Speaker 9: viewers have been so lucky to have her here. Glad
19:27
Speaker 9: she's not leaving.
19:28
Speaker 4: Charleston State government doesn't know what they're getting when a
19:31
Speaker 4: hurricane New Jersey girl goes over there.
19:33
Speaker 7: She's wonderful.
19:34
Speaker 9: She's a wonderful person, very kind and very talented and
19:37
Speaker 9: a true professional.
19:38
Speaker 3: All right, So I got you here to talk about
19:40
Speaker 3: girls not Out.
19:41
Speaker 9: Yeah, y wsa's having girls Night Out and as you
19:44
Speaker 9: all know, it's a party with a purpose. It's going
19:46
Speaker 9: to be a terrific time. It's happening this Saturday, so
19:48
Speaker 9: you still have time to get some tickets. They go
19:51
Speaker 9: all out with this party. If you haven't been, I
19:53
Speaker 9: highly recommend looking into this. It's happening Saturday, and the
19:58
Speaker 9: theme this year is all dauled up, so think pink
20:01
Speaker 9: for sure. It's going to be a terrific time. The
20:04
Speaker 9: decor is spectacular. The food and drink is even better,
20:07
Speaker 9: and we got DJ EJ spin in the tunes.
20:10
Speaker 7: Be a good time.
20:11
Speaker 4: And the money goes to YWCA and their programs. Break
20:14
Speaker 4: that down for us a.
20:15
Speaker 7: Little bit, correct.
20:15
Speaker 9: So the event raises money and awareness for the YWCA
20:20
Speaker 9: Resolved Family Abuse program that serves victims of domestic violence
20:24
Speaker 9: and their children. And they cover a lot of ground too, Canaw, Boon,
20:28
Speaker 9: and Putnam Counties and they help more than five thousand
20:32
Speaker 9: individuals each year. Excuse me, canall Clay and Boone counties.
20:38
Speaker 9: But they do a lot of work. They offer case management,
20:40
Speaker 9: court advocacy, and counseling. They have support groups too, and
20:45
Speaker 9: safety planning. They monitor parent child visitation exchanges as well.
20:49
Speaker 9: They just provide all of the necessary resources for someone
20:52
Speaker 9: experiencing a domestic violence situation.
20:55
Speaker 4: So talk about your involvement in this. I mean, I know,
20:58
Speaker 4: your your station, WOWK, you know is involved in this,
21:01
Speaker 4: and pretty much every media outlet in Charleston one way
21:03
Speaker 4: or the other gets involved in this and covers and whatever.
21:05
Speaker 3: But what about this for you personally?
21:08
Speaker 9: Well, this isn't I'll be m seeing the event. So
21:12
Speaker 9: but I do I think that their their mission is
21:14
Speaker 9: very important. When these things happen to people, they find
21:18
Speaker 9: themselves their world is flipped upside down and they don't
21:21
Speaker 9: know where to turn, and oftentimes they're shamed or embarrassed.
21:24
Speaker 9: And and without the y w c A, especially if
21:27
Speaker 9: someone doesn't have family in the area or no where
21:30
Speaker 9: to turn, it can be a very scary situation. You
21:33
Speaker 9: factor children into the equation as well. It's uh, it's
21:37
Speaker 9: it's a tough situation to be in and traumatic for folks.
21:40
Speaker 9: So the y w c A without them here, there
21:42
Speaker 9: would be folks really really not knowing where to go,
21:46
Speaker 9: not knowing where to turn.
21:47
Speaker 4: And this event has just gotten bigger and bigger over
21:49
Speaker 4: the years. And this is almost spend another day on this.
21:51
Speaker 4: I've got Sandy call Uh coming in on Friday to
21:54
Speaker 4: talk about it as well. But I want to because
21:55
Speaker 4: I think it's such an important event that we need
21:58
Speaker 4: to give it a little bit of extra time. And
22:00
Speaker 4: as far as the actual event itself, you said it's
22:04
Speaker 4: a different theme every year that make us such a
22:06
Speaker 4: big deal out of what's the theme going to be.
22:08
Speaker 4: I'm sure it's like kind of Barbie influenced this year,
22:11
Speaker 4: and it's an excuse for people to just totally engross
22:16
Speaker 4: themselves in the theme, and that's what happens every year.
22:18
Speaker 7: Well, yeah, you know, I'm always impressed with Sandy.
22:20
Speaker 9: She always has she goes above and beyond and over
22:23
Speaker 9: the top and gets really dressed up. And I mean
22:25
Speaker 9: some folks will wear pretty much a costume, and this
22:27
Speaker 9: one seems like that would be a perfect one to do.
22:31
Speaker 9: So yeah, the themes each year are always always great
22:33
Speaker 9: and people find a fun way to make a spin
22:36
Speaker 9: on it. I mean there's always going to be bright
22:38
Speaker 9: colors and sequence. But when you throw out the theme,
22:41
Speaker 9: it's like Barbie. I mean, it's going to be a
22:43
Speaker 9: great time. So I'm always impressed with how they do
22:46
Speaker 9: the themes each year, and so people just.
22:48
Speaker 7: Show up really.
22:52
Speaker 9: Doing whatever they can to be creative with the theme.
22:56
Speaker 3: If that makes sense, it does indeed.
22:57
Speaker 4: But Dave Allen showing five eighty Live broad to you part
23:00
Speaker 4: about Pinnacle Consultants. Their services involved developing comprehensive management plans
23:04
Speaker 4: to outline UH strategies for controlling and minimizing as best
23:07
Speaker 4: so exposure perfect for commercial property owners and manager physic
23:11
Speaker 4: Pinnacle court dot net because what you don't know can
23:13
Speaker 4: hurt you. And I can tell you having worked the
23:16
Speaker 4: event a couple of times in the past, not you know,
23:18
Speaker 4: I mean, can you give a bunch of guys a
23:20
Speaker 4: service waiter or at least it's what they used to
23:22
Speaker 4: do or do they still do that?
23:23
Speaker 7: You're right.
23:23
Speaker 9: So it's it's girls night out and it's girls attend
23:27
Speaker 9: but the guys also volunteer. So I act in the
23:30
Speaker 9: capacity of serving drinks and you know, walking around and
23:33
Speaker 9: catering to all the ladies. It is so fun if
23:35
Speaker 9: if you haven't been, I would really encourage it for
23:38
Speaker 9: the ladies listening and uh.
23:40
Speaker 4: And what about the guys if they want to get
23:41
Speaker 4: involved a volunteer, I mean, is it still is it
23:43
Speaker 4: too late for that or can they So.
23:44
Speaker 9: If you're still interested in volunteering even last minute, sponsorships
23:47
Speaker 9: are available, So if you go to YWCA Charleston dot
23:51
Speaker 9: org there's information on sponsorships and UH and ticket information
23:54
Speaker 9: and also the important work that the YWCA does. And
23:58
Speaker 9: like I say, they do dress up and costumes and
24:00
Speaker 9: they really put their own spin on it. It's just
24:03
Speaker 9: a wonderful time. It's a party with a purpose for sure.
24:06
Speaker 4: I love the tagline. It's what it's been for years.
24:08
Speaker 4: Party with a purpose, and that's what it is because
24:10
Speaker 4: there is a lot of fun that goes into this
24:12
Speaker 4: and a lot of as you said that with the
24:14
Speaker 4: costumes and the music and the so on and so forth.
24:16
Speaker 3: But at the end of the day, it's.
24:17
Speaker 7: About the cost totally right.
24:19
Speaker 3: And the food is always good too.
24:21
Speaker 7: It's this was actually ten years ago.
24:24
Speaker 9: This was the first event party that I went to
24:28
Speaker 9: in Charleston and my mind was blown. It was at
24:30
Speaker 9: the airport then, but now it's over at the Colossuming
24:34
Speaker 9: Convention Center.
24:35
Speaker 7: So it's just they go all out.
24:37
Speaker 4: It's so impressive, it is, indeed, and so let's we'll
24:40
Speaker 4: put a final wrap on it by saying tickets are available,
24:43
Speaker 4: to give us the website again, and then we got
24:44
Speaker 4: some other things you and I are going to talk about.
24:46
Speaker 3: But go ahead, sure.
24:47
Speaker 9: Why WUCA Charleston dot org. It's a party with a purpose.
24:51
Speaker 9: It's for a good cause, and I encourage everyone to.
24:53
Speaker 3: Check it out and the where and the win.
24:55
Speaker 9: Saturday August tenth, the kickoff time, I want to say seven.
25:01
Speaker 3: Okay, all right, close enough anyway, get.
25:03
Speaker 4: The Saturday evening, get there at five yeah, and it's where.
25:06
Speaker 7: It's going to via the Colisseum at.
25:08
Speaker 4: The Colosseum Convention because I know one year, at least
25:10
Speaker 4: one year they did it actually outside on the Capitol grounds.
25:13
Speaker 4: That's one of the ones that I worked as a volunteer.
25:15
Speaker 4: You got a little bit warm out there.
25:17
Speaker 7: So we're inside now, inside the.

25:46
Speaker 4: hoo to SEC exit party there because it was funny
25:49
Speaker 4: because I was trying to organize this whole thing and
25:51
Speaker 4: trying to She knew she was going to be on
25:53
Speaker 4: the air, but she didn't know everybody was coming in,
25:56
Speaker 4: and so I'm texting while I'm talking, and I got
25:58
Speaker 4: a whole bunch of people out here in the hall,
25:59
Speaker 4: and I'm like, Okay, all right, bring them in, And
26:01
Speaker 4: right in the middle of them is Marrily mccallof. I
26:03
Speaker 4: was like, oh, and Merrily, he's here too.
26:04
Speaker 9: So so you just kind of crashed it.
26:07
Speaker 3: That's all I told you yesterday. You were more than
26:10
Speaker 3: welcome to come in.
26:11
Speaker 7: So Carrie is just terrific.
26:12
Speaker 2: Oh.
26:12
Speaker 9: I can't say enough good things about her. She's really
26:14
Speaker 9: been terrific to have around.
26:16
Speaker 4: And you're somebody, I mean, you weren't from as far
26:18
Speaker 4: away as Jersey, I mean, but you know, you you've
26:21
Speaker 4: kind of a I'm not saying forever, because you never
26:23
Speaker 4: know what happens, but you've kind of adopted the Charleston
26:26
Speaker 4: Huntington area as your home too.
26:27
Speaker 7: It's my home.
26:28
Speaker 9: It's I hate to say this in a way, when
26:30
Speaker 9: I do go home, I'm originally from Richmond, Virginia, and
26:32
Speaker 9: when I do go home, it doesn't feel like I'm
26:34
Speaker 9: going home anymore. I know that might sound bad to
26:37
Speaker 9: my family back home, but you know, it's like this
26:40
Speaker 9: is home for me.
26:41
Speaker 7: I love it.
26:41
Speaker 9: Here. I love Appalachi. I love West Virginia. And one
26:44
Speaker 9: thing that I have noticed is my friend's from the
26:46
Speaker 9: West coast or out of out of state, but mostly California.
26:50
Speaker 7: Folks will tell you, wow, everyone here is.
26:52
Speaker 9: So nice, and and after you hear that so many times,
26:54
Speaker 9: you really realize, like people here are so friendly. Well,
26:58
Speaker 9: everyone here is just so nice. And I've I just
27:00
Speaker 9: love it here so much. This is a great place,
27:02
Speaker 9: and I'm so happy to call West Virginia home.
27:05
Speaker 4: And what's different for people like me who is you know,
27:10
Speaker 4: a West Virginia native and have spent almost my entire
27:12
Speaker 4: life here.
27:14
Speaker 3: I think everybody's that way, you know, because this is
27:16
Speaker 3: what I grew up with.
27:17
Speaker 4: And then I go to Chicago or Pittsburgh some places
27:20
Speaker 4: that I go on.
27:20
Speaker 3: My everybody ain't that way. Yeah, it's kind of Ryan
27:25
Speaker 3: producer wanted me to remind he he's also from Richmond.
27:28
Speaker 7: Oh that's right, four brother, Now you.
27:31
Speaker 4: Want to go start talking in the language that nobody
27:32
Speaker 4: else understands. Just that's Richmond, Richmond East. I know you
27:35
Speaker 4: had one other thing you wanted to plug, and I
27:37
Speaker 4: told you that you could only if we could plug
27:40
Speaker 4: our similar events. So but listen, it all goes to
27:44
Speaker 4: help out some people in need as we head into
27:46
Speaker 4: the school season. So you start with yours and I'll
27:48
Speaker 4: finish with mine.
27:49
Speaker 3: Go ahead, hey deal.
27:50
Speaker 9: So we over at thirteen news WOWK we have our
27:54
Speaker 9: Fill the Bus campaign.
27:55
Speaker 7: We do it every year.
27:56
Speaker 9: We just encourage folks to, you know, stop by the
27:58
Speaker 9: grocery store or the the walmart all the way home Pigley,
28:02
Speaker 9: Wiggley or somewhere and pick up some school supplies and
28:05
Speaker 9: you can drop them off. We have several locations throughout
28:08
Speaker 9: the area and it helps students in need. It can
28:11
Speaker 9: be really tough for parents to get all of those
28:14
Speaker 9: supplies together, so if we can help them in any way,
28:18
Speaker 9: we are so happy to do that. So we've got
28:20
Speaker 9: our Fill of the Bus campaign and if you'd like
28:22
Speaker 9: to take part, had to do wo WUK TV dot
28:25
Speaker 9: com and we have all the drop off locations listed there,
28:28
Speaker 9: so find one near your house and just drop off
28:30
Speaker 9: some school supplies. And and yes they're competing, I suppose, however,
28:34
Speaker 9: it all goes to the children in our area and
28:36
Speaker 9: that's and so if you can't do this one, do yours.
28:40
Speaker 4: And I think a couple of the other stations are
28:42
Speaker 4: doing things too, so it's all it all kind of
28:44
Speaker 4: goes together. Ours is one week from today on our
28:47
Speaker 4: parking lot out here, the annual Backpack Attack. We do
28:50
Speaker 4: it every year. This is something that he woulds had
28:53
Speaker 4: an idea to do years and years and years ago.
28:55
Speaker 4: The soon to be a Hall of Famer what he was.
28:57
Speaker 4: By the way, eleven eleven Virginia Street East, that's where
29:00

29:05
Speaker 4: been doing this, as I said, Organized by Woody from
29:07
Speaker 4: her sister station, one of seven three the beat line
29:10
Speaker 4: up next Wednesday. We'll start at three o'clock giveaways. We'll
29:13
Speaker 4: be from four to six. Important to remember, kids must
29:17
Speaker 4: be present because a lot of times we have parents
29:19
Speaker 4: that show up and say, well, I've got this one home,
29:21
Speaker 4: we got it, we got to see the kid. You know,
29:23
Speaker 4: kids must be present, no kid, no backpack. A lot
29:27
Speaker 4: of other businesses are making the whole thing possible, and
29:29
Speaker 4: I've got I got it posted on my social media
29:31
Speaker 4: exactly all that because there's several, i mean dozens that
29:34
Speaker 4: come together to make this whole thing possible. And so
29:37
Speaker 4: now for me giving you this airtime, you've got to
29:39
Speaker 4: come and do a story about it next week.
29:40
Speaker 7: Deal, deal, all right, all right, we're.
29:42
Speaker 3: Going to hold you to that.
29:43
Speaker 4: All right, Before we let you go, as I said,

29:49
Speaker 4: to give you a chance to let people check you out.

29:54

30:02

Speaker 4: that a little bit more. Plus your calls and text
34:48
Speaker 4: are welcome to hoppykach Full ten oh six with talk
34:51
Speaker 4: Line on a humorous note about the choice of Walls
34:54
Speaker 4: for vice president. The story is I heard this this
34:57
Speaker 4: morning on ABC News when Kamala Harris may the first call,
35:01
Speaker 4: the ceremonial first call to Tim Walls. He didn't answer
35:05
Speaker 4: the phone because it showed up no caller ID. That's
35:09
Speaker 4: a true story, and so she had to have her
35:12
Speaker 4: people to call him to say, Kamala Harris is going
35:15
Speaker 4: to be calling you. But it showed up literally on
35:18
Speaker 4: his phone, no caller ID. So he didn't answer what,
35:22
Speaker 4: in his case, would be the biggest call of his life.
35:24
Speaker 4: So it's good to know spam calls, I guess, can
35:27
Speaker 4: happen to the best of us, or at least perceived
35:29
Speaker 4: spam calls. Rob Cunningham is here. He is the president
35:33
Speaker 4: of the Putnam County Board of Education. Good morning, sir, how.
35:35
Speaker 8: Are you morning, Dave?
35:36
Speaker 3: Thank you, thank you for being here.
35:37
Speaker 4: Now, when voters in November in Putnam County, we'll go
35:41
Speaker 4: to the polls. Not only are they going to be
35:42
Speaker 4: looking at candidates, of course, but.
35:44
Speaker 3: They're also going to be asked to weigh in on
35:46
Speaker 3: some educational issues. So that's Monday night.
35:50
Speaker 4: The Putnam County Board of Education approved the bond and
35:53
Speaker 4: if I get anything wrong, correct me. The bond to
35:55
Speaker 4: be on the ballot in November. State school building authorities
35:58
Speaker 4: signed off on the financial land last week. So explain
36:02
Speaker 4: what is this for?
36:03
Speaker 3: Why is it needed? You take it from here.
36:04
Speaker 22: Well, the biggest issue we have is Hurricane Middle School
36:09
Speaker 22: seventy seventy.
36:10
Speaker 8: Five years old.
36:11
Speaker 22: We've outgrown the footprint there with our student population, and
36:16
Speaker 22: with all the economic development and that we're having in
36:20
Speaker 22: Putnam County and around Putnam County, we're anticipating that our
36:24
Speaker 22: student population.
36:25
Speaker 8: Is want to continue to grow.
36:26
Speaker 22: And fifteen years ago, when we passed a bond, Hurricane
36:31
Speaker 22: Middle School wasn't even touched in that bond. We built
36:34
Speaker 22: Buffalo High School, we built Pokam Middle School, we built
36:38
Speaker 22: Winfield Middle School, but Hurricane Middle School didn't get any
36:42
Speaker 22: money from that.
36:43
Speaker 3: Well, how old is the school? Middle School?
36:47
Speaker 8: It's seventy seventy five years old.
36:49
Speaker 3: Oh okay, okay, yeah, So I.
36:51
Speaker 8: Mean we've got our money's worth out of it.
36:52
Speaker 3: I think.
36:53
Speaker 4: So, I think I'd like to ask that that I was.
36:55
Speaker 4: I thought it had some years on it, but I
36:57
Speaker 4: didn't think it was that old. So I mean, it's
37:00
Speaker 4: it's probably time.
37:01
Speaker 22: I believe the plaque in the gym says nineteen fifty,
37:04
Speaker 22: nineteen fifty one some more.
37:05
Speaker 4: Okay, So the big question, so this will be on
37:09
Speaker 4: the ballot. I mean it's done.
37:10
Speaker 22: Deal, Yes, So that's what the Board of Education voted
37:14
Speaker 22: to place it on the ballot for the voters in
37:15
Speaker 22: Putnam County to review and hopefully they will approve it.
37:19
Speaker 4: And you mentioned again it's Hurricane Middle School, but there's
37:21
Speaker 4: also these other facilities as well that are also going
37:23
Speaker 4: to benefit if this passes.
37:25
Speaker 16: Oh.
37:25
Speaker 22: Absolutely, we're touching. We're going to touch all corners of
37:28
Speaker 22: Putnam County. We're asking to replace the light systems and
37:34
Speaker 22: a lot of the athletic fields. If you've been to
37:37
Speaker 22: a middle school football game at PoCA you.
37:39
Speaker 8: Understand, And once the sun goes down, it's pretty dark.
37:42
Speaker 4: Yeah, play faster voice, yes sir, so go ahead, yeah so.
37:46
Speaker 22: And not only the lighting system, but we're also going
37:49
Speaker 22: to replace some press boxes and some of the bleacher infrastructure.
37:53
Speaker 4: So the big question anytime that this is put before
37:57
Speaker 4: the voters, and the questions of people like me get
38:00
Speaker 4: is and to you and those that are going to
38:02
Speaker 4: try to support it, will this result in more taxes the.
38:06
Speaker 22: Tax base the tax number will actually go down. And
38:10
Speaker 22: let me explain that is the proposed bond that we
38:14
Speaker 22: just approved is approximately fifty million dollars and the existing
38:20
Speaker 22: bond that we refinanced and have was able to save
38:25
Speaker 22: three point five million dollars one and are retiring now
38:28
Speaker 22: is approximately a sixty million dollar bond. So the tax
38:32
Speaker 22: burd will actually decrease for each homeowner.
38:35
Speaker 4: Okay, And this something you don't hear very often.
38:37
Speaker 22: I mean, well, our board, one of the first ground
38:41
Speaker 22: rules we laid when we were discussing this was we
38:44
Speaker 22: are not going to raise taxes at Putnam County.
38:46
Speaker 3: Okay, So that's always good to hear.
38:48
Speaker 4: But Dave Island showing five any lie presented in part

38:53

38:56
Speaker 4: vis A General Hardware WV dot com. I want to
38:59
Speaker 4: kind of switch gears to just for a moment.
39:00
Speaker 3: I got you here.
39:01
Speaker 4: I want to talk about Putnam County in general for
39:03
Speaker 4: a moment. I may be a little biased. Hurricane is
39:06
Speaker 4: not my hometown, but it's where I.
39:08
Speaker 3: Have lived for ten years.
39:11
Speaker 4: And listeners have heard me say this before, not just
39:14
Speaker 4: Hurricane where I live, but I mean all of Putnam
39:16
Speaker 4: County is a great place to be, great schools, business environment,
39:22
Speaker 4: low crime rate. You kind of mentioned this. People are
39:26
Speaker 4: moving in again in droves. Some of that because of
39:29
Speaker 4: New Core. A lot of that's because of New Core.
39:32
Speaker 4: There's new housing developments that are coming up. But there's
39:34
Speaker 4: a lot of people, and I've heard this from people
39:38
Speaker 4: in the education field that have told me, and this
39:40
Speaker 4: is your field of expertise, one of your field of
39:43
Speaker 4: expertises is that a lot of parents are choosing to
39:47
Speaker 4: bring their kids to Putnam County to raise their kids
39:50
Speaker 4: there for And I'm not trying to, you know, cast
39:53
Speaker 4: shade on any of the other areas, but I'm just
39:55
Speaker 4: saying there's a lot of people that are choosing to
39:57
Speaker 4: raise their families in Puttnam count talk about that.
40:00
Speaker 22: Yes, And in my prior career when people would move in,
40:06
Speaker 22: you know, I had a lot of coworkers would move in,
40:09
Speaker 22: move out, and any of them had children. They all
40:12
Speaker 22: landed in Putnam County, and there was two reasons. Number
40:15
Speaker 22: one was the school system for their children, and number
40:18
Speaker 22: two was the housing. The quality of the housing. You
40:21
Speaker 22: can get more bang for the buck. You get a
40:24
Speaker 22: really nice house and a nice neighborhood for a reasonable price.
40:27
Speaker 4: Now the problem is a Putnam County, and this is
40:29
Speaker 4: another problem we have in other areas too, is there's
40:32
Speaker 4: just not enough housing right now for the people that
40:33
Speaker 4: are wanting to come in. There's a housing shortage.
40:36
Speaker 22: That is correct. I have a friend of mine that
40:38
Speaker 22: actually got into a bidding war with a new Core
40:41
Speaker 22: employee and the new Core employee one my friend stopped
40:45
Speaker 22: at ten thousand dollars over asking.
40:47
Speaker 4: I mean, that's really interesting to me because I can
40:50
Speaker 4: recall in purchasing houses in the past, you know that
40:53
Speaker 4: I don't think that I ever had to pay more
40:56
Speaker 4: than the asking price. We bought the house where now
40:59
Speaker 4: we bought it in twenty eighteen, and we didn't We
41:02
Speaker 4: didn't pay more than the asking price.
41:03
Speaker 3: You know, you always try to get loader.
41:04
Speaker 4: But now people are coming in in Putnham County and
41:07
Speaker 4: some other areas too, look at it and saying, Okay,
41:09
Speaker 4: this house is two hundred and twenty five thousand, I'll
41:11
Speaker 4: give you two fifty for it, because that's how much
41:13
Speaker 4: they want to be there and how much they want
41:15
Speaker 4: the house.
41:15
Speaker 22: Yes, and you know, I've chosen to raise my I'm
41:18
Speaker 22: from Putnam County, but I've chosen to raise my family
41:20
Speaker 22: there for just the reasons you explained, the values that
41:24
Speaker 22: are in the community. You know, Putnam County is still
41:27
Speaker 22: unique that it has four unique communities Buffalo, Puttnam of Buffalo, PoCA, Winfield,
41:33
Speaker 22: and Hurricane. But it's all, you know, they all share
41:36
Speaker 22: the same values. They all have the same same wants
41:40
Speaker 22: and needs. And you know, the school system, at least
41:43
Speaker 22: while I've been there, I think reflects.
41:45
Speaker 4: That talk a little bit before we let you go
41:48
Speaker 4: about the school system and overall, how the test scorer
41:50
Speaker 4: is looking at Putnham County. I don't need specific numbers,
41:52
Speaker 4: but I mean test scores looking.
41:54
Speaker 3: Good and everything so we have.
41:57
Speaker 22: Last year, I believe we led in just about every
41:59
Speaker 22: cagory and if we wasn't first, we were second, and
42:03
Speaker 22: that is great. I'm really happy with that. I want
42:06
Speaker 22: to be the top ranking school system in the state.
42:10
Speaker 22: But you've got to realize we are competing regionally and
42:14
Speaker 22: nationally and globally. So these are we want our students
42:18
Speaker 22: to have test scores that compete regionally, nationally, and globally.
42:22
Speaker 22: So you know, we're not satisfied with just being the
42:25
Speaker 22: number one school system in the state of West Virginia.
42:28
Speaker 22: We want to continue to raise our education level.
42:32
Speaker 4: All right, let's get back to the levee again. It's
42:34
Speaker 4: going to be on the ballot in November, right for
42:36
Speaker 4: Putnam County voters.
42:37
Speaker 8: Yes, sir, the.
42:38
Speaker 22: Putnam County voters will have an opportunity to evaluate it
42:41
Speaker 22: and see if it's worth worth their money.
42:44
Speaker 4: Now, as a school board member and this president school board,
42:47
Speaker 4: are you allowed to advocate for it? Because I know
42:49
Speaker 4: sometimes that you can't necessarily do that. I mean in certainly,
42:53
Speaker 4: for example, like in some of the emergency services levy,
42:57
Speaker 4: some of the workers weren't allowed to advocate for it.
42:59
Speaker 4: They were just allowed to explain it is that something
43:01
Speaker 4: you're wrong. I don't want to get you fired. You're
43:03
Speaker 4: not allowed to do it.
43:04
Speaker 22: Don't do it, Rob, No, I believe that I'm allowed
43:07
Speaker 22: to explain it. And you know I wouldn't be talking
43:11
Speaker 22: positive positively about it if I wasn't wasn't supporting it.
43:16
Speaker 4: All right, I got to ask you about Marshall football.
43:20
Speaker 22: My son's down there playing. He goes in at six
43:22
Speaker 22: thirty in the morning and he calls me about nine thirty,
43:25
Speaker 22: ten o'clock at night when he's coming home.
43:27
Speaker 8: He's they're working. They're really working hard.
43:30
Speaker 3: We're gonna be good this year.
43:31
Speaker 22: Right, I have every everything I understand.
43:34
Speaker 8: We should be pretty competitive.
43:35
Speaker 3: I did. Is the sun as good as the old
43:37
Speaker 3: man was?
43:38
Speaker 8: You have to ask him.
43:40
Speaker 3: He's gonna say, yes, I'm all the better than he is.
43:43
Speaker 3: And now, what positions your son played? What's his name?
43:45
Speaker 8: He's playing defensive end.
43:46
Speaker 4: It's Jackson Cunningham and product of the school system there.
43:49
Speaker 22: He graduated from Winfield High School, played football at Winfield
43:52
Speaker 22: High School and he was given an opportunity to go
43:56
Speaker 22: to Marshall. Coach Hugh invited him to come and walkner.
44:00
Speaker 22: He's he's earning his bones.
44:03
Speaker 3: Go ahead, thanks right, all right.

47:22

47:24
Speaker 3: It's just that simple. It's it's supply and demand, Texas.
47:32
Speaker 2: Dave.
47:32
Speaker 4: A lot of the rich moved to Putnam County. That's
47:34
Speaker 4: why you see a lot of state tax dollars going there.
47:37
Speaker 4: Just saying fact checked, it's a text. Well, I moved there,
47:41
Speaker 4: and I'm certainly not rich. But I'll tell you one
47:45
Speaker 4: of the reasons why when I when I left southern
47:47
Speaker 4: West Virginia and moved to Putnham County, one of the
47:49
Speaker 4: reasons why my wife and I chose to settle in
47:50
Speaker 4: Putnam County was because We're both Marshall.
47:54
Speaker 3: People and we went to Marshall.
47:56
Speaker 4: And I like being between Huntington and Charleston.
48:00
Speaker 3: I do.
48:00
Speaker 4: It's nothing against Charleston. I'm in Charleston at least six,
48:04
Speaker 4: if not seven days a week. But we chose to
48:08
Speaker 4: live there and there were a variety. We don't have kids,
48:11
Speaker 4: so that wasn't an issue. But you still want, whether
48:13
Speaker 4: you have kids or not, you still want these schools
48:15
Speaker 4: around you to do well because that means good things.
48:18
Speaker 4: And as I said, it's more and more people are

Speaker 4: Getting back to the latest gim Justice News and again
49:33
Speaker 4: Brad with the lead story this morning wv Metronews dot com.
49:36
Speaker 4: Twenty three coal companies are now being found in contempt.
49:40
Speaker 4: These companies are part of the Justice family empire, being
49:44
Speaker 4: held in contempt for not paying safety fines of nearly
49:47
Speaker 4: a half million dollars. Now, these cases actually go back
49:53
Speaker 4: to twenty fourteen. And as I said, Brad and Hopey
49:56
Speaker 4: will discuss it. I think it's in the eleven o'clock
49:58
Speaker 4: hour and talk line today. The question you have to ask,
50:01
Speaker 4: is will this be enough to keep Jim Justice out
50:08
Speaker 4: of the US Senate replacing Senator Joe Manchin, who opted
50:12
Speaker 4: not to seek reelection. I think you and I both
50:14
Speaker 4: know the answer to that question is no. Jim Justice.
50:21
Speaker 3: Governor.
50:22
Speaker 4: Jim Justice is going to win in November, and he's
50:27
Speaker 4: going to go to Washington. And at this point, I
50:31
Speaker 4: am just wondering how much the national media is going
50:38
Speaker 4: to focus on the Jim Justice financial issues.
50:42
Speaker 8: Now.
50:43
Speaker 4: We've already seen some reports have come out national publications,
50:46
Speaker 4: various ones have come out talking about the Jim Justice situation.
50:50
Speaker 4: But we're in August right now, and I don't know
50:55
Speaker 4: that there's going to be from the national folks. I
50:57
Speaker 4: don't know that there's going to be a whole lot
50:59
Speaker 4: of focus on the West Virginia race, to be honest
51:01
Speaker 4: with you, mainly, and this is and I mean this
51:04
Speaker 4: with with no disrespect intended at all to Wheeley Mayor
51:09
Speaker 4: Glen Elliott, who is going to be the Jim Justice
51:11
Speaker 4: opponent in the Senate race. No no disrespect meant at
51:16
Speaker 4: all toward toward Mayor Elliott. Seems like I've had him
51:22
Speaker 4: on the show, seems like a fine gentleman. Uh, well respected, but.
51:27
Speaker 3: He's got a D after his name. So that's just
51:29
Speaker 3: and that's just kind of where we are right now.
51:31
Speaker 4: So if the national media chooses to put the Justice
51:38
Speaker 4: finances under the microscope again, they can focus all they want,
51:42
Speaker 4: but it's the voters of West Virginia who are going
51:46
Speaker 4: to be the ones to put him in Washington, not
51:48
Speaker 4: anyone outside the state.
51:49
Speaker 2: Now.
51:50
Speaker 4: I'm will there be pack money coming in targeting Jim
51:52
Speaker 4: Justice to a certain extent, I don't.
51:54
Speaker 3: I don't know that it'll be a lot. We hope
51:56
Speaker 3: it is. In our industry. We hope it is, but
52:00
Speaker 3: it may or may not be. My clothes on this
52:03
Speaker 3: is it's not going to make a bit of difference.
52:05
Speaker 4: Though Jim Justice wins, I also say he won't complete
52:10
Speaker 4: the full.
52:10
Speaker 3: Term for one reason or another.
52:13
Speaker 4: And the next governor of the state of West Virginia,
52:16
Speaker 4: Patrick Morrissey, who I think is going to beat Steve
52:17
Speaker 4: Williams in November. Morrissey then appoints himself to Justice's seat
52:21
Speaker 4: in the Senate. Morrissey gets to where he wanted to
52:24
Speaker 4: be in the first place, in DC and not in
52:27
Speaker 4: West Virginia. That's way it all phases out the way
52:29
Speaker 4: I look at it, but I've been wrong plenty of
