- Lucas: Hey, welcome back to Learn Malay with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Ready to dive into some useful words today? Lucas: Absolutely. So we've done a bunch of adjectives, right? Big, small, hot, cold... Luna: Yeah, sweet, sour, spicy, salty... even cheap and expensive. Lucas: And last time we covered good and bad. Baik and jahat. Luna: Right, though I still mix up jahat with something else. Lucas: You'll get it. Today we've got another pair that's super practical: clean and dirty. Luna: Oh, like when I'm cleaning my room, or when I spill something. Lucas: Exactly. So the word for clean is bersih. Luna: Bersih. Lucas: Yeah. Bersih. Say it with me, bersih. Luna: Bersih. Sounds nice, actually. Lucas: It does, doesn't it? And dirty is kotor. Luna: Kotor. Lucas: Kotor. One more time, kotor. Luna: Kotor. Lucas: Good. Now let's put them in simple sentences. Meja ini bersih. This table is clean. Luna: Meja ini bersih. Lucas: Perfect. Meja is table, ini is this, bersih is clean. So 'this table is clean'. Luna: Meja ini bersih. Lucas: Now what about 'that floor is dirty'? Lantai itu kotor. Luna: Lantai itu kotor. Lucas: Yes. Lantai is floor, itu is that, kotor is dirty. Luna: So 'that floor is dirty'. Lucas: Exactly. Let's practice both. Meja ini bersih. Luna: Meja ini bersih. Lucas: Lantai itu kotor. Luna: Lantai itu kotor. Lucas: Great. Now, if you ever walk into a restaurant and want to say the table is clean, you can say meja ini bersih. Luna: That's super useful. And if it's dirty, I'd say meja ini kotor? Lucas: Exactly, you got it. Meja ini kotor. Luna: Meja ini kotor. Lucas: And honestly, if these words are helping you get by in Malay, that's exactly what we're here for. Luna: Yeah, and if today's episode was worth a coffee to you, you can support us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Lucas: Exactly. Just a small way to keep the show going and ad-free. Luna: Every bit helps us keep making these lessons. Lucas: Alright, back to practice. So we have clean, bersih, and dirty, kotor. Luna: Bersih, kotor. Lucas: Now let's mix it up. Imagine you're at a market and the floor is dirty. Luna: Lantai itu kotor. Lucas: Yeah. Or you see a clean plate. Pinggan ini bersih. Luna: Pinggan ini bersih. Lucas: Pinggan is plate. So you're already using new vocabulary. Luna: Cool. So bersih and kotor are adjectives, they go after the noun? Lucas: Exactly, like in English. The table clean, the floor dirty. Luna: Right. So meja bersih, lantai kotor. Lucas: And you can add ini or itu to specify. Meja ini bersih. Luna: Meja ini bersih. Lucas: Lantai itu kotor. Luna: Lantai itu kotor. Lucas: Perfect. Let's do a quick scenario. Say you're at a friend's house and they ask about the room. Luna: Bilik ini bersih? Or bilik ini kotor? Lucas: Bilik means room. So you could say bilik ini bersih, the room is clean. Or bilik ini kotor. Luna: Bilik ini bersih. Bilik ini kotor. Lucas: Great. And if you want to say 'my room is clean', you say bilik saya bersih. Luna: Bilik saya bersih. Lucas: There you go. So today we've got bersih and kotor. Two very handy words. Luna: I'll try to use them this week. Lucas: Do it. And we'll be back with more. Until then, selamat tinggal. Luna: Selamat tinggal! Practice those words, everyone!
